- 3:23Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to triggered Reactions conquered. This is mister Eric Buyers
- 3:32of Virginia Beach, Virginia. I would like to welcome him to our platform
- 3:38on tonight. Thank you, thank you Lisa for having me up. Okay
- 3:46at this right now, I'm gonna read our scriptures for the night. And
- 3:52before I read the scriptures, I would like to let you know that our
- 3:55topic of the evening is the outlook of life and after the outlook of the
- 4:04outlook of life before and after incarceration Jesus, and the reason why we have
- 4:13Jesus on the end of it is because of Jesus and him crucified. Our
- 4:19scripture tonight is coming from James one and James one, three and four,
- 4:27and our next scripture will be coming from Ecclesiastics eleven and one. James one,
- 4:33three and four reads as follows, knowing this that the trying of your
- 4:42faith worketh patience. Ecclesiastics eleven and one reads as follows, cast thy bread
- 4:53upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days. And I'm
- 5:00going to allow my wonderful guests, mister Eric Buyers to come in his own
- 5:06way and share about these two scriptures that he has chosen for this hour.
- 5:15Thank you. As I was asked to do this, uh podcast, Uh,
- 5:21I thought about some scriptures that I have to do the topic, and
- 5:26so I came to James one and three along with four and and I pondered
- 5:33on it, saying, but let they thy patients have its perfect works.
- 5:42So you know, and my time of being out in the world and also
- 5:54being incarcerated, I look back and I see where God had preordained me and
- 6:03set me aside for this a time as this. But he had to put
- 6:09me through something or either you want to say, I had to go through
- 6:13something and so but that said, it took patience, uh, in many
- 6:20days of trials that I went through in order to come to where I am
- 6:26right now in life. So I always look back in it where it says
- 6:32let patience have its perfect works. And definitely God had had had patience with
- 6:41me and in these times where I was going through hard hittedness, stiff nekedness,
- 6:47just rebellious. Uh. And then I look, I look at where
- 6:51I'm at right now, and Ecclesiastic says, cast I bread a punt upon
- 6:57the water, or thou shalt find it after many days. And you know,
- 7:05living a Christian life, it's it's not a not a it's not a
- 7:09sprint, it's a marathon. So I can look back and see where God
- 7:16had told me to do things when I was out before I got incarcerated,
- 7:21and I, uh was didn't listen, but he knew that I was gonna
- 7:29listen sooner or later. So with that said, I cast my my bread
- 7:35upuns the waters, and it came back, you know, any days it
- 7:41came back. And man, we thank you, praise God for those scriptures,
- 7:45because truly, when we have need of Jesus Christ, we have to
- 7:49do what we have to do to let him know that he has our attention.
- 7:56I was first question to you is can you explain a little bit about
- 8:01how your life was before you got incarcerated. Childhood was very good. I
- 8:18was raised in the seventies and eighties, so that was a time where discipline
- 8:26was prevalent in in the families. And also my my father he was in
- 8:33the military, so that went with everything that we was raised to be military
- 8:41minded because he definitely put the military tactics on us. But definitely it was
- 8:50good time. It might not have seemed good, but I looked back,
- 8:54it was. It was a good life, good good raising upbringing to you
- 9:01know, as you leave the nest, you get influenced by things outside the
- 9:07nest. So when I got into high school, you know, you meet
- 9:13people that maybe have more than you or have less than you, but you
- 9:20just you're influenced by people. So but that said, I started dabbling,
- 9:31dabbling in streets, small time at first, of course, and then it
- 9:37got to be overwhelming. Just nothing. There was no bad influence in the
- 9:48household, just everything outside the household. You know, it pulled me into
- 9:52that street life and I just, I mean waddle in it, as you
- 10:01want to say. So, you know, and right before are the years
- 10:11prior to getting incarcerated, you know, I was living I almost say I
- 10:16was living. I was living good. You know, I had every in
- 10:20anything I wanted, did anything I want, go anywhere I wanted, you
- 10:24know, but just not doing it the right way. So that was the
- 10:33situation before I got locked up. Just in life. Yes, yes,
- 10:43I want to say that this is my uncle, y'all, and how he
- 10:50became my uncle. When I was stationed in the military. I was actually
- 10:54stationed in his town. My dad's wife is his brother, and he has
- 11:01two other brothers, and I was kind of uh from nineteen to twenty two,
- 11:07I lived in the household with him and his two brothers. And Thanks
- 11:11be to God that God allowed me to have a family to be in in
- 11:16their family while I was in the military. And I just want to say
- 11:20that I thank God that I'm still affiliated with this family. We just had
- 11:24a wonderful time this weekend here in California, and I'm I'm just really grateful
- 11:31for him this story, and I just really wanted to share that that,
- 11:35you know, I know that this young man has been brought up in the
- 11:39the right way as a really good family, and to God be the glory
- 11:45for what he had to do to get to the point where he's at today.
- 11:50So I understand that you had a traumatic experience when you were in prison,
- 11:58and can you share that with us? Uh, Let me say this.
- 12:05Anybody who goes to prison has a traumatic experience anyone. Prison is not
- 12:16for humans. It's add normal all the way around the board. So where
- 12:26do you want to start off with the fastest of Okay, let's talk about
- 12:35let's not talk about so much the bad stuff. Let's talk about the benefits
- 12:39that prison has provided for you. Well okay, uh, well, yeah,
- 12:46I can there are benefits going to prison. But you cannot just talk
- 12:52about the benefits without talking about a little bit of the bad stuff, because
- 12:56okay, bad stuff which makes what makes you realize, hey, there's something
- 13:03better. Yeah, this is the wrong way to go. So, you
- 13:09know, just like being incarcerated, where you're told what to do when to
- 13:22do it, you have very limited freedom, if you want to call it
- 13:28freedom. The freedom is is uh mentally and very close corner. You know,
- 13:41you have very little space. So you know, when you learn how
- 13:52to deal with prison life, you definitely gonna you're gonna want to not stay
- 14:00there. Right now, I have to say that I did that I did.
- 14:05To say that I didn't have good times in prison would be uh,
- 14:11would be a lie, because I had some good times in prison. Now
- 14:16do I want to be there. No, but you make the best of
- 14:20what you were you at you know, right that said, m okay,
- 14:26so or what thing? What type of things did you come up against while
- 14:31you were locked up? Well, as I realized being out out here now
- 14:39that the world outside world has no clue, no clue of in cost erasing
- 14:48what details. For one, everything is segregated, mhm thing but white,
- 15:01Chinese, African, American, African dirty white boys, white boys, gays,
- 15:15lesbians, everything is segregated. So you know, you talk to people
- 15:22on the outside and they just don't understand. But when you go to prison,
- 15:28you have to be or the or the protocols to be with your own
- 15:33group. Okay. So with that said, it's like I said, you
- 15:41got blacks, but you got different sections of the blacks. You got Black
- 15:48Americans, then you got Africans. The Africans don't really like the Black Americans.
- 15:54But at the same time you got Haitian Jamaican. All these are different
- 16:04parts of blacks, right, so all those are separate, your Haitian,
- 16:11uh Jamaicans, all these people are separate Black community. You know what I'm
- 16:18saying. That's not that's not the saying dealing with even the whites, because
- 16:22then you got white boys, you got dirty white boys. Then you know,
- 16:26you got uh skinheads, and then you got the Mexicans, then you
- 16:34got the the you know, the then you fall in with the groups,
- 16:38the gangs. So you know, it's definitely politics, what I mean,
- 16:48it's politics. But with that all that said, it's a necessary evil because
- 16:53you're dealing with very limited space. Is it right? Is it right?
- 17:00You can argue it is, you can argue it ain't. But whenever you
- 17:07sit down to yourself and you got a lot of time to think, you
- 17:11realize, look, I don't want to be here. You know, this
- 17:14is not the place for me. Right. So did God speak to you
- 17:22while you were there? What amazing things that God convey to you? Oh?
- 17:29Man, every day God would speak to me, and he would say,
- 17:33no, he didn't. But just like in the Book of Tennesses where
- 17:40Adam and Eve walked in the garden with God, he actually walks with you
- 17:45and talks with you today. It's not like, oh, that's just the
- 17:51Bible. He walks and talk with you. You know, I got so
- 17:56many stories of how God would talk to me or he would either you know,
- 18:00teach me what to do what not to do. Like I said,
- 18:07I'm giving for example, I got mint examples. But I was when I
- 18:12first got in. I was had usher for four years and the church up
- 18:21in West Virginia gilmer uh meet him high. So one day I was at
- 18:33I was setting up for church and church service was going on, and God
- 18:41I heard Claire as I'm talking right here to you today A gentleman came in
- 18:47the door. And when he came in the door, on him because I
- 18:53like, I look like I like look like that. I mean, I
- 18:56felt like. So the day went on and I didn't speak to this gentleman.
- 19:07I didn't approach him about being an usher or nothing. So something I
- 19:12guess. A couple of days went past, and it came up again.
- 19:18It came to the next another Sunday, and it got he the gentleman came
- 19:22in again, and so I still didn't speak to him. So when I
- 19:26got back to myself, God spoke to me. He said, you can't
- 19:33tell me who'd pick. I mean, yeah, he did, definitely,
- 19:37And I felt and I felt a matter of fact, the scriptor he used
- 19:41to take the plank out of your own eye, I'm like and I felt
- 19:44it deep in my spirit. I like, God, I get me.
- 19:48So I knew he was talking to me about this gentleman. So when I
- 19:52went back the next Sunday, I spoke to him and he he was he
- 19:57was already got it, already worked on his heart. He he came in
- 20:00right away after he wanted to be a usher. He said, yeah,
- 20:03man, definitely, So he became an usher. So awesome. So I'm
- 20:07saying the the the lesson I got is you don't know what God has are
- 20:15doing someone else's you know, you whenever he tells you to do something,
- 20:19he has already mapped it out. Yes, yes, absolutely. And then
- 20:26when he when he told me that, and it hurt me to my heart
- 20:29when he showed me like take the plank out of your own I I told
- 20:30you to go get this gentleman, you know. And and it definitely like
- 20:37really opened my eyes about how to judge people because you you can't. You
- 20:44can judge, don't get wrong. You can judge people are righteous, judgment,
- 20:45but you can't can say, oh he ain't God don't want him because
- 20:49you don't know, because yeah, you're not right. So during during that
- 20:55experience, did you feel like you was sort of like in trouble with God.
- 21:00Uh, definitely. I felt ashamed. I felt I felt ashamed,
- 21:06you know. I felt like, man, you know, I feel like
- 21:10disappointed guy, which I I did because he taught me to do something that
- 21:12I didn't do it, and then he had to show me like, hey,
- 21:15man, didn't I tell you go get this gentleman? And so I'd
- 21:18say as soon as I said something to him, he was like, yeah,
- 21:22I want I want to. I want to I want to join you
- 21:23know, I want to be usher so and he so. You can you
- 21:27recall another another time or another type of way that God chastened you while you
- 21:34were there, many many times, many times. I'm gonna tell you this
- 21:41one time, Okay, when I left the street, I had a seventy
- 21:45eight Ford Bronco. I don't know if anyone knows that is. And it's
- 21:52a big wide body Bronco. I had it on, had it lifted,
- 21:57had I had like a big four hundred in it, and he was I
- 22:03loved it thirty seven. I loved this truck. So I would call home
- 22:11maybe like every other month, and I tell I asked, my dad started
- 22:14up, you start the truck up? And he's like, yeah, I
- 22:17started the truck up. You know you're going through it. Yeah, I
- 22:18started up. So months came past and I couldn't. I called home and
- 22:26I couldn't get my dad one time, so my daughter answered the phone and
- 22:33I said, uh so, I asked, I said to that, UH
- 22:37said, granddad started truck up. Like huh, I said, granddadd started
- 22:41trucker. He said that truck been going for like three months, right,
- 22:45I said, oh what? And I then I was hurt that my dad
- 22:49didn't tend with this. But my but the God said to me, yeah,
- 22:56I got rid of that truck because you loved that truck more than me.
- 23:02Thank you. Go ahead, He said, you're putting that truck above
- 23:06me, and nothing comes above me. He told me that. When he
- 23:08told me that, I hurt. My soul hurt. I thought, like,
- 23:12oh my goodness, it was soul, really it really, it really
- 23:15hurt me, like man, but I was that's what I was doing,
- 23:22you know, like you know, so the truck was gone even and I
- 23:25didn't I never knew it until like three months later. Wow, that was
- 23:30quite an experience. And sometimes it takes for things to happen like that,
- 23:37so we can know that our God is a jealous god and he will have
- 23:41nothing or nobody to be served before him. Definitely. Moving right along,
- 23:48I want to ask you, uh, if you could share with us about
- 23:56the federal justice system. What did you learn about out the federal judge the
- 24:02system while you were there. The federal justice system is corrupt, as we
- 24:10all know. Now. With that said, does God use it? Yes,
- 24:15he does use it. God used it just like he used the the
- 24:22Ema rights and Malakites. Whenever the Israelites would act up, he would use
- 24:26them to punish him. So God does use the federal system us looking to
- 24:33it, looking at it as in the flesh. Definitely, the federal system
- 24:37is corrupt. There's no justice in the federal system. But as you know,
- 24:45the black situation, the white situation, of the money situation, it
- 24:52takes a lot of money to get justice in the federal system. In if
- 25:00that said, you have to have you have to be basically white to get
- 25:04justice and have a lot of money. At the same time, I met
- 25:10people met families that are in are We're in prison wrongfully. I'm talking about
- 25:18whole families, mom, dad, brothers, all in prison for wrong wrongfully
- 25:26convicted and not just black, but I've met whole white families in prison wrongfully
- 25:33convicted. So you know, it's definitely not somewhere you want to be,
- 25:44but definitely it's there's no justice in the federal system. Okay, so you
- 25:49were you were convicted, Uh, you were convicted of. Uh what would
- 25:57would you share with the that is what your time was. Yeah. I
- 26:02was convicted of seven charges of conspiracy, crack cocaine, cocaine, marijuana,
- 26:19a registered non registered machine gun, uh, and one or two more charges
- 26:29I was only found guilty of. There was eight charges altogether. I was
- 26:32only found guilty of seven of them. And how did you feel when they
- 26:37sentence you to three hundred and sixty months equal to thirty years? How did
- 26:44how did that make you feel? Uh? When I started when he when
- 26:49she she told me what it was, and I started adding it up and
- 26:53I got to one twenty, I said one twenty twice. I said,
- 26:57Oh, Mark, gouldn't it? I said, I asked my my lawyer,
- 27:00I said, what, I didn't kill nobody? You know what is?
- 27:03What is she? What did they do it? So he looked at
- 27:07me like no, and I had to paid lawyer it wasn't no public offense.
- 27:15I paid this lawyer and he just looked at me because they was trying
- 27:21to get me light. But they couldn't, well, they couldn't legitly because
- 27:26it's my it was my first defense ever, right, so they they gave
- 27:33me thirty years. I am with that. Said, the judge gave me.
- 27:44I didn't use drugs because you know, I don't smoke, drink or
- 27:48do nothing. I don't. I never did. And when she found out
- 27:49how she she gave me more time for that, I'm like, but definitely,
- 27:57uh, definitely was something. Okay, So you say you was convicted,
- 28:08Uh, I mean you were sitting to thirty years. How much time
- 28:12did you actually do? Listen? Nineteen years, eight eight months? All
- 28:19that was fighting. I I fought the whole way with the trial, which
- 28:26people don't go to trial and FADS is less than less than one percent go
- 28:32to trial. And I went to trial, appeal, Uh, Supreme Court.
- 28:41I'd have been to Supreme Court like four times. I'm gonna say five
- 28:45times Jesus, you know, back and forth to the lower court. And
- 28:52what what would you say if you if you had a talk to somebody that's
- 29:00that's in prison right now, what would you suggest to them that they need
- 29:04to do to maintain until they get released. You gotta have Jesus first and
- 29:14foremost, because if you don't, the bad influence will eat you up.
- 29:22Because in prison there are so much things that are bad the influence you that
- 29:34can influence you. You have to have Jesus. You have to have I'm
- 29:40the times when I was and I did six years and in depend and federal
- 29:44in high security. It was at one point at the end of that six
- 29:51years, you know, then I came down. But at the end of
- 29:52sixty years, I was literally going crazy mentally. That was Jesus, I
- 29:57was going crazy. I'm wow, because you just you're like a hamster on
- 30:03a wheel because people don't leave out. You know, people got thirty life,
- 30:08they got so much time that they're not going anywhere, right see these
- 30:12people for decades and they're doing the same thing every day at the same time.
- 30:21Wow, So you know, and and it's just you know, that
- 30:26can be mind boggling, you know. And then you got with that all
- 30:33that said, you got, like I just said earlier, you got segregation.
- 30:37So you you sometimes, as you know, you can't sit where you
- 30:41want, you want to sit, you gotta sit where your people are,
- 30:48your people are, you know, you know, And I've seen people get
- 30:52stabbed. I've seen race riots just over a seat in the tea room,
- 31:00you know. And I'm and you might say, what the chieving room.
- 31:03I've seen people get destroyed in the chiving room for turning the TV. Like,
- 31:08yes, there, I said, turn the TV. Sitting in people's
- 31:11seats that you don't supposed to sit in. But you know, this is
- 31:17prison, that's prison culture. You gotta follow the protocol to a certain extent.
- 31:23You know. Well, I am very very grateful that you was able
- 31:29to maintain and to be able to do what you needed to do to get
- 31:33out. And I'm grateful that you are out doing what you're doing today on
- 31:38a daily basis. What if you could share with us what a day in
- 31:48the military from morning tonight? What was your your daylight in prison? Yes?
- 31:56Yeah, okay, Well I'm a I'm rat. So I stay in
- 32:01the gym all day. Uh, the gym in the law libraries is my
- 32:06two main areas. So when I get up, I get up about four
- 32:10thirty in the morning, right after count because counts at four o'clock four thirty
- 32:17one in the two matters. Sometimes they run late. I get up and
- 32:22I start my day. I eat, read scripture, and then I wait
- 32:28for count to clear, So count years in federal prison at six supposedly every
- 32:34day, and when they close, when they clear at six, you can
- 32:37go down to the yard. And that's why I spend most of my time
- 32:43in the morning out in the yard, working out and either you know,
- 32:46just meditating through scripture throughout the day. But I go out to the yard
- 32:58stay out there from like six eleven thirty because you know, either you can
- 33:05go out, you can go out and walk the yard, do exercises.
- 33:12The yard is where most people can get their leisure time. So a lot
- 33:15of things going on in the yard, a lot of there's so many things
- 33:19going on in the yard. So that's why I spend most of my morning,
- 33:22no not even sending. My mornings are on the yard. Then after
- 33:25lunch, I right go to the law library and reading cases, keeping up
- 33:31on the new laws and new cases, helping people as as also you know,
- 33:37putting my stuff in with that. With that said, you know,
- 33:44and that is from six to recall recalls that three thirty. Yeah, so
- 33:52then when that's when I get to leave the law library, I could come
- 33:57back and that's that's count again. Four o'clock, four o'clock count everywhere else
- 34:05federal prisons, four o'clock count, four o'clock count is uh is dinner time.
- 34:13So after that most of the times go eat dinner, relaxed. I
- 34:16might go back out to the yard, but it's just to be the socialized
- 34:21you know. Yeah, a couple of guys you know that's that I know
- 34:25through prison socialized them. Then after that i'd be probably about five six o'clock
- 34:37headed back, headed back to the to the building to get ready to go
- 34:40to bed because lock, I mean, because you they call recall at seven
- 34:45thirty. So everybody, all right, so you might want to get back
- 34:49at six thirty to beat the rush for the shower because you gotta take a
- 34:52shower and all that, and it's kicking in the block, you know,
- 34:57whatever dude might have. We might be even making a big dinner or either
- 35:02someone's birthday or just playing cards or something like that before you go to play
- 35:10down. Okay, all right, thank you for sharing that with us.
- 35:15Our time is running, so I am going to ask the ultimate ultimate question.
- 35:22And this is a question that that will help those who may be out
- 35:30in the world doing all types of everything to the degree of possibly landing their
- 35:38selves in prison. And this main message is for the dope dealers. So
- 35:45what would you what if you could share a message with people that are still
- 35:51uh setting dope and doing drugs and all that kind of stuff, what would
- 35:54the message be At this point in time, it's, uh, you need
- 36:00to stop, you know, Uh, it's over with. There's many other
- 36:06things that it would take you out of your current financial struggle at in twenty
- 36:15twenty three. Then then then selling drugs or even dealing with drugs because I
- 36:20can say it's either gonna get killed or in in prison and either one you
- 36:24know you you're not you can't do nothing with it. So definitely avenue is
- 36:34to stop, you know, stop with the drugs selling even in the drug
- 36:37use, stop with that too, because like I said, I stay in
- 36:43the gym, keep your temple as clean as possible so you can think and
- 36:47have in reason. Uh, and also you know, fellowship with God because
- 36:52he definitely he that wants you your temple at abused. But definitely this point
- 37:00in time, there's different avenues to make money and just make as much or
- 37:05even more, and then you don't have to you don't have to risk being
- 37:08locked up or you're even killed. A man that definitely is it's a plus.
- 37:17Well, here we are at the end of the road on today.
