- 0:14Speaker 2: Varsity Network app, Varsitynetwork dot Com. First time in a
- 0:17Speaker 2: while we have been home for Thanksgiving. Normally Thanksgiving since
- 0:20Speaker 2: two thousand and seven, we've been somewhere Saint Thomas, the Bahamas, Portland,
- 0:25Speaker 2: Cayman Islands one year.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I mean my wife doesn't even have to do with
- 0:29Speaker 2: me for Thanksgiving this year unless she goes with me somewhere.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I mean, she hasn't gone with me anywhere the last
- 0:34Speaker 2: few years. Polo too, man, Yeah, they're always there.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, I'm glad. I'm glad that we're home. You know,
- 0:41Speaker 3: I missed the Manchester road Race.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I like that.
- 0:43Speaker 3: It's a great time in Manchester. It's a fun, you know,
- 0:47Speaker 3: fun activity and it's great for the town.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Is your street on the route somewhere? No, No, you're
- 0:56Speaker 1: too far out.
- 0:57Speaker 3: No, but they have to run right past the restaurant here.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That's right, which is which is great?
- 1:04Speaker 3: You know, And those that.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Have no that's right, that's home stretch, right, that's right.
- 1:08Speaker 3: And those that have no interest in winning, nor do
- 1:10Speaker 3: they have any chance of winning, We'll have something for
- 1:13Speaker 3: them when they pass by here.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Ah.
- 1:19Speaker 3: But I'm glad we're home. I'm glad we're home for Thanksgiving.
- 1:23Speaker 3: The the Xavier game. Uh, any have you ever been
- 1:28Speaker 3: to a game at Xavier?
- 1:32Speaker 1: It's since I Center's a nice building. It's a great building.
- 1:35Speaker 1: It is.
- 1:36Speaker 3: It is a great college building, really great. Have you
- 1:39Speaker 3: been to Butler And if you've been to Butler, you
- 1:43Speaker 3: know Hanklefield House, that's where they play you know the
- 1:46Speaker 3: movie Hoosiers. That's where that high school team won the
- 1:48Speaker 3: state championship in that building. I mean, it's been redone
- 1:51Speaker 3: a little bit, but it's in that building and it's
- 1:54Speaker 3: an unbelievable college facility. So there are some great facilities
- 1:58Speaker 3: in our in our those two I think are the
- 2:01Speaker 3: best of any of the other ones that are in
- 2:04Speaker 3: ourly just great classic facilities.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You know, last season, anywhere we went and particularly Hinkle.
- 2:10Speaker 2: We didn't go to the Xavier last year. I mean,
- 2:13Speaker 2: obviously Page had a lot to do with it. But
- 2:15Speaker 2: just the amount of kids in Paige Becker's jerseys. Now
- 2:19Speaker 2: the case of Hankel, there were a lot of Ashland
- 2:21Speaker 2: shade jerseys there because ash of course is from Indiana.
- 2:24Speaker 2: But it was just wild to see all year long.
- 2:26Speaker 2: But Hankle was fascinating because where you guys go to
- 2:30Speaker 2: the locker room, they go downstairs and they use the
- 2:32Speaker 2: football locker room, which is downstairs at Hankle. But to
- 2:35Speaker 2: get there, back and forth between that and the floor,
- 2:38Speaker 2: the amount of kids in basketball jerseys is waiting just
- 2:41Speaker 2: to see them was just extraordinary. And then afterwards they're
- 2:44Speaker 2: all hanging out outside hoping to get an autograph. That's
- 2:47Speaker 2: what your program's like. And I remember hearing about Chicago
- 2:50Speaker 2: kids are up in trees. Well did you get an
- 2:52Speaker 2: autograph or just get a look?
- 2:53Speaker 3: I know, I know, yeah, last year it was. It
- 3:00Speaker 3: was pretty unique. I mean, you get these little kids,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you know, when we were little kids, I mean, god,
- 3:10Speaker 3: love it. You know if we ever had a chance
- 3:11Speaker 3: to see a professional athlete, or.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I mean I could, who was your favorite growing up?
- 3:20Speaker 1: Do you have one, one or two guys in Philly?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Well growing up?
- 3:28Speaker 3: You know that I gotta tell you, professional basketball wasn't
- 3:33Speaker 3: what it is today. Like if you wanted to watch
- 3:35Speaker 3: the NBA playoffs, and it was always the Sixers and
- 3:38Speaker 3: the Celtics and to go play for the NBA Championships,
- 3:43Speaker 3: So they never played against each other, and to see
- 3:46Speaker 3: the game, you had to watch it the next day
- 3:49Speaker 3: was tape tape delayed. They didn't even show them live. Now,
- 3:53Speaker 3: college basketball, that's a different story. Down at the Plastra,
- 3:58Speaker 3: which is on Penn's campus, that's where the best teams
- 4:01Speaker 3: in the country would come. There would be Big Five doubleheaders.
- 4:08Speaker 3: You know, in the afternoon you might have Vanova playing
- 4:13Speaker 3: South Carolina and at night you might have Saint Joe's
- 4:17Speaker 3: and Lasal And it was just an unbelievable atmosphere. And
- 4:25Speaker 3: you know, I was a Saint Joephian growing up for
- 4:29Speaker 3: whatever reason. But I think my favorite player ever to
- 4:32Speaker 3: play in the Big Five was Kenny Duratt played at Lasal.
- 4:38Speaker 3: He was way ahead of his time. He looked like
- 4:41Speaker 3: a guy that plays in the NBA today. He could
- 4:44Speaker 3: do all those things look like he would. He would
- 4:46Speaker 3: be the Jason Tatum of those days. He was just phenomenal, phenomenal,
- 4:51Speaker 3: and they were the number one team in the country,
- 4:53Speaker 3: but they couldn't play in the tournament against UCLA because
- 4:58Speaker 3: the previous coach that was there. You know, those Catholics,
- 5:03Speaker 3: they don't all follow the.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Rules understood, all right, One quick break here. We're getting
- 5:09Speaker 2: close to the end of the show here, so we've
- 5:10Speaker 2: got to pay a few more bills. It's the Yukon
- 5:12Speaker 2: Women's Basketball Coaches Show back with Geno in the final
- 5:15Speaker 2: segment in a minute here on Larfield,
