- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, hello, a good afternoon, or a good evening or
- 0:03Speaker 1: a good morning. I don't know what time of day
- 0:05Speaker 1: it is for you, but Brandon and I are here
- 0:08Speaker 1: in studio. And Brandon, if some of you may recall,
- 0:12Speaker 1: was in a very foul mood last week. That was
- 0:14Speaker 1: not I was not upbeat and that was not my
- 0:16Speaker 1: normal chip herself. No, no, and that's because you were robbed. Yes,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I was robbed, robbed not once, but twice in one day,
- 0:23Speaker 1: that's right. So he obviously has to move. But other
- 0:27Speaker 1: than that, the great update, because you've been in Hawaii
- 0:30Speaker 1: all wait, so a lot of things have transpired, Brandon.
- 0:33Speaker 1: There's been a lot going on. And I came home
- 0:35Speaker 1: to the news that the gentleman who is my neighbor
- 0:38Speaker 1: who robbed me, the perpetrator, he was arrested, and it
- 0:41Speaker 1: didn't look like justice was going to be served. But
- 0:43Speaker 1: we had Jennifer Lopez type of d A or detective
- 0:48Speaker 1: detective you referenced Jennifer Lopez. Question, she's been on the brain. Yeah,
- 0:52Speaker 1: apparently she stopped by and she let us know that
- 0:55Speaker 1: she was definitely going after him and going to pursue charges.
- 0:58Speaker 1: And she did. And when that happened. Jennifer Lopez, Yes
- 1:02Speaker 1: Jlo herself descended upon his house with the swat and
- 1:05Speaker 1: a fucking helicopter to arrest him. That is exces juice.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I mean, I just thought, like, you know, someone would
- 1:13Speaker 1: sweep by, pick him up, put him in the back
- 1:15Speaker 1: of a cop car. But no, they did a full
- 1:19Speaker 1: descent on his home and he was arrested. So gratifying
- 1:23Speaker 1: after that fucking asshole stole from you, not once he
- 1:26Speaker 1: stole from him, like a year ago. He broke into
- 1:29Speaker 1: their house. Then he came back again, and then he
- 1:31Speaker 1: came back again. His friends came back later that day
- 1:34Speaker 1: after Brandon chased him down the street and apprehended him himself.
- 1:38Speaker 1: The police were like, there's nothing you can do. There's
- 1:40Speaker 1: nothing you can do unless you catch him in the act,
- 1:42Speaker 1: which you did. But then I guess I've realized that
- 1:46Speaker 1: the law is very intricate, that there are a lot
- 1:49Speaker 1: of levels to the protections for people, which I understand. However,
- 1:53Speaker 1: I fucking caught this guy with the stolen goods, and
- 1:55Speaker 1: there were still not much there could be done until
- 1:58Speaker 1: again this detective came in on her white horse to
- 2:00Speaker 1: save the day. And now I have to go testifying.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I'll get to Oh, I can't wait for that. That
- 2:07Speaker 1: is like a courtroom draw. There's nothing I love more
- 2:09Speaker 1: than at the Law and Order SVU moment I've been
- 2:12Speaker 1: waiting for for so long. Well, it's just so gratifying
- 2:15Speaker 1: because it really felt like the police were not going
- 2:17Speaker 1: to do anything about this because of this no bail
- 2:20Speaker 1: rule that we have in Los Angeles, which means that
- 2:22Speaker 1: you can get arrested for a non violent crime, but
- 2:25Speaker 1: then you're booked and released the same day. Yes, it's
- 2:27Speaker 1: an immediate release, which again I understand components of all
- 2:31Speaker 1: of these things now. And I had a very bad attitude.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I was mean to basically everyone I encountered the day
- 2:35Speaker 1: we were robbed. I was screaming at every police officer
- 2:37Speaker 1: who I had to interact with. And so I'd like
- 2:40Speaker 1: to apologize for our behavior. But that's nice. Nobody needs
- 2:44Speaker 1: to be yelled ABT. No. I do understand that there
- 2:46Speaker 1: are everyone's trying to do their job. Everyone I think
- 2:49Speaker 1: wants justice to be served. But because there's been injustice
- 2:53Speaker 1: for so long, we now have to course correct. And
- 2:55Speaker 1: again it can go too far one direction or another,
- 2:58Speaker 1: but we'll find we'll find the appriate footing. I think, well,
- 3:01Speaker 1: so how did you find out about the arrest? The
- 3:04Speaker 1: detective emailed while we were away and let us know
- 3:07Speaker 1: what was going on and what charges. He's being charged
- 3:09Speaker 1: with three felonies. Oh good, maybe whatever his name is,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I don't want to say his name, that's not really fair.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Hopefully he'll get a ship together. I spoke to him
- 3:18Speaker 1: very compassionately while it was happening, even though you were
- 3:20Speaker 1: apprehending him, that this is not the life you want
- 3:23Speaker 1: to live. There's so much more opportunity than robbing your neighbors.
- 3:27Speaker 1: And I mean, he was on drugs, but I think
- 3:30Speaker 1: he heard me. He'll hear me in court. Well, actually,
- 3:33Speaker 1: you probably by that time, yeah, I mean you're probably
- 3:35Speaker 1: gonna have you already have empathy for him, so you
- 3:38Speaker 1: probably will have to have empathy for people. Actually, my car,
- 3:41Speaker 1: since I've lived here, I've lived in l A for
- 3:42Speaker 1: six years, my car has been broken into three times,
- 3:44Speaker 1: every time it's around Christmas. And I just try and
- 3:47Speaker 1: to remind myself that when it happens, because it's so
- 3:49Speaker 1: freaking annoying, that whoever is doing that doesn't want to
- 3:52Speaker 1: be doing it, that they're in a position where they
- 3:54Speaker 1: feel like this is their only option and it's the holidays,
- 3:57Speaker 1: like who knows if they're doing it for their family
- 3:58Speaker 1: to get gifts. So you try and lead with empathy
- 4:01Speaker 1: in these things. But well more on a happier note, though,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you just came back from like your first vacation since
- 4:06Speaker 1: I've met you, your first real vacation vacation, And thank
- 4:10Speaker 1: you so much for you did not bother me one time. No,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't want to. I wanted you to
- 4:16Speaker 1: enjoy your time in the sun. Literally I did. I
- 4:18Speaker 1: had a great time traveling during We're still in a pandemic,
- 4:21Speaker 1: were on the tail end seemingly of the last year's quarantine,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and so traveling felt a little strange. And it seemed
- 4:29Speaker 1: like we went to a w who it seemed like
- 4:31Speaker 1: they wanted it so badly to be wrapped up, but
- 4:33Speaker 1: it still wasn't. So there was social distancing. There was
- 4:37Speaker 1: you know, capacities at every restaurant, so limited capacities, cacities.
- 4:42Speaker 1: So we just spent most of our time on the beach,
- 4:44Speaker 1: which is exactly what we were there for, which was nice.
- 4:46Speaker 1: And did sweetheart try to surf? I did try to surf,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and it was so fucking hard. And you know, I
- 4:51Speaker 1: really pride myself and being able to like lean into
- 4:53Speaker 1: any sort of athletic activity and do well. I did
- 4:56Speaker 1: not do well with surfingart. You know, I could have
- 4:59Speaker 1: told you that Sweethearts aunt serf. I tried to serf
- 5:01Speaker 1: once in Portugal, and I ended up with literally my
- 5:05Speaker 1: breasts well they were exposed, which obviously everyone knows it's
- 5:08Speaker 1: not a big deal for me, but in the way
- 5:10Speaker 1: that they were exposed, it wasn't my choice. My bathing
- 5:12Speaker 1: suit basically almost decapitated me. My bathing suit top because
- 5:16Speaker 1: the waves were so quick in quick succession that I
- 5:19Speaker 1: couldn't get my bearings. And I know that when you
- 5:22Speaker 1: strapped the leash to your ankle, it's supposed to be
- 5:25Speaker 1: for your safety, but all I wanted to do was
- 5:28Speaker 1: get that fucking leash off my ankle. And all I
- 5:30Speaker 1: could do was rip it off. And the guy, my
- 5:33Speaker 1: surf instructor, who didn't speak English and I don't speak Portuguese,
- 5:36Speaker 1: was saying like gesticulating, don't take off the rope, don't
- 5:39Speaker 1: take off the rope on my fuck this rope funk.
- 5:42Speaker 1: And then I just swam into shore, and by the
- 5:44Speaker 1: time I got to the beach, my bikini top was
- 5:47Speaker 1: around my neck, the bottom was gone, just I was bottomless,
- 5:51Speaker 1: just soaked. I just covered in sand, and I looked
- 5:54Speaker 1: like a sand dab. Actually I looked like somebody who
- 5:56Speaker 1: had been dipped in sand and then was waiting to
- 5:59Speaker 1: be fried. And it was humiliating, and I'll never forget
- 6:02Speaker 1: my friend's boyfriend came running over to help me cover
- 6:05Speaker 1: my Pikachu because it was out because I had no
- 6:07Speaker 1: bathing suit bottom. But it was by far the most
- 6:10Speaker 1: humiliating beach experience. Oh no, actually I did have another
- 6:14Speaker 1: humiliating beach experience. I also too. Once went to Oahu
- 6:17Speaker 1: with my sister showtime, and she and I went to
- 6:20Speaker 1: the north shore and we thought, because we've grown up
- 6:22Speaker 1: in Martha's Vineyard and we've had a lot of swimming,
- 6:26Speaker 1: South beach is rough, and we thought we knew what
- 6:28Speaker 1: was up. And we went out and there were all
- 6:33Speaker 1: those signs on the beach saying like no swimming, but
- 6:36Speaker 1: we didn't. I couldn't be bothered with that, so we
- 6:39Speaker 1: went in and then as soon as we felt the riptide,
- 6:41Speaker 1: we were like, oh my god, what the fuck and
- 6:44Speaker 1: we were holding each other and holding each other, and
- 6:46Speaker 1: then we had to ride in the waves to get
- 6:48Speaker 1: out of you know, to get out of the ocean,
- 6:50Speaker 1: and we had to time it. Finally I just let
- 6:52Speaker 1: go of her hand. I'm like, everybody's on their own.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I'm like each man for herself, and then I and
- 6:59Speaker 1: it was the same scene, running like in slow motion
- 7:03Speaker 1: to the safety of the beach. And when we got
- 7:05Speaker 1: to the shore, everyone was on the beach screaming at
- 7:09Speaker 1: us that we shouldn't have been swimming in the water.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And then someone thought I was Pam Anderson because at
- 7:13Speaker 1: that time I was like white blonde hair with just
- 7:15Speaker 1: huge tits, and I pretended I was And I just
- 7:19Speaker 1: took a bunch of pictures with some Japanese tourists. I'm sure. Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 1: so that was fun, but yeah, that was another bad
- 7:25Speaker 1: ocean experience. The ocean can be very scary. Yeah, it's
- 7:28Speaker 1: I love being on the water. I am so relaxed
- 7:31Speaker 1: when I'm there, but if you go out too far,
- 7:33Speaker 1: it's very menacing, like you get past the point of
- 7:36Speaker 1: no returning, Like, wait, can I make it back to shore?
- 7:38Speaker 1: I think I've gone too far, right, And it's also
- 7:40Speaker 1: a giant toilet. So that's disgusting because when you really
- 7:45Speaker 1: think about what's in the ocean, it's not great. It's
- 7:49Speaker 1: the opposite of great. And the critters and the creatures
- 7:52Speaker 1: that are in the ocean are also you know. Well,
- 7:56Speaker 1: that's what I did like about Hawaii is that there
- 7:57Speaker 1: are no questionable animals out and about We said, you
- 8:01Speaker 1: had a baby pup, a seal and her pup. Yeah,
- 8:05Speaker 1: but there's no like snakes, so you should love Hawaiian Yeah,
- 8:08Speaker 1: that's actually one of my favorite things about Hawaii that
- 8:10Speaker 1: there are no snakes. You don't have to worry about anything.
- 8:12Speaker 1: They don't have any snakes in New Zealand either. By
- 8:14Speaker 1: the way, there was a shark. Good that was scary.
- 8:18Speaker 1: We we kind of like debriefed on the way here.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I totally forgot to tell you there's a shark. Of
- 8:22Speaker 1: course there was. Well, I did not think I have
- 8:25Speaker 1: an unreasonable fear of sharks. When we went to Spain,
- 8:29Speaker 1: you had to tell me that there were no sharks
- 8:31Speaker 1: in that portion of the sea, so I would get
- 8:33Speaker 1: in were But with global warming, they're coming in closer
- 8:36Speaker 1: to places that they shouldn't be. And what you do
- 8:39Speaker 1: if you see a shark as you hop on the
- 8:40Speaker 1: back of it and hold onto the fin like it's
- 8:42Speaker 1: a mountain. You mount it and just hope for the best.
- 8:45Speaker 1: That's what I do. Well, that's advice for everyone. Well,
- 8:48Speaker 1: where was the shark? So we had just left the
- 8:50Speaker 1: hotel of this little private beach and this is where
- 8:52Speaker 1: the seal and her pup were nesting, and we had
- 8:55Speaker 1: just gone up. We looked over the balcony we were
- 8:57Speaker 1: on the highest floor to see the mom and her
- 9:00Speaker 1: up The fucking shark had come in to shore, I'm
- 9:03Speaker 1: assumed to try and get it, and it just swam
- 9:04Speaker 1: around for a few minutes and went on its little way.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I mean it's probably like six or seven foot. It
- 9:09Speaker 1: wasn't huge, but too big for me to be comfortable
- 9:12Speaker 1: getting back in over there. Yeah, yeah, Well, when they're
- 9:14Speaker 1: seals are sharks, I'm like, that's bait I don't need, right, So,
- 9:18Speaker 1: how come the shark didn't get the pup or the seal, Well,
- 9:20Speaker 1: because I think they had gone too far upshore. They
- 9:23Speaker 1: were they were sunning. It must be hard to be
- 9:26Speaker 1: constantly on the lookout of being fucking eaten. Well, I
- 9:30Speaker 1: guess that's what people have to deal with now with sharks.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I like when people say, oh, well, sharks aren't here
- 9:33Speaker 1: to eat people, It's like, well, they keep fucking trying
- 9:35Speaker 1: to So who gives a ship what their m O is?
- 9:38Speaker 1: They're eating us. These sharks and these whales are much
- 9:40Speaker 1: smarter than people give them credit for. Have you seen
- 9:42Speaker 1: all these reports about these whales, Like when they hit
- 9:44Speaker 1: the side of the boat and they take the propeller
- 9:47Speaker 1: off and then they try and sink the boat. It's
- 9:49Speaker 1: like a conscious effort. Really, it's like Moby Dick. But
- 9:54Speaker 1: I didn't understand. And moby Dick was when they had
- 9:56Speaker 1: all these little boats and when they would go whaling,
- 9:58Speaker 1: you know, they're like little I need like almost like
- 10:01Speaker 1: the equivalent of like a TP but on the flat
- 10:04Speaker 1: for the pool, and they would harpoon the whales and
- 10:07Speaker 1: it's like, why don't the whales just buck up against
- 10:09Speaker 1: the boat. But maybe what's happening with the whales and
- 10:12Speaker 1: the propeller is evolution, because whales now are hip to
- 10:16Speaker 1: it and they're like, hey, stop sucking harpooning us. We
- 10:18Speaker 1: need to be more respectful of the sea creatures in
- 10:21Speaker 1: the ocean. Itself. It's I mean, it's really disgusting when
- 10:24Speaker 1: you see all of the wash up of all these
- 10:27Speaker 1: cigarbage and all all those pires. Is that what they're
- 10:31Speaker 1: called pires? Or is that an Indian funeral piles pires? Yeah?
- 10:35Speaker 1: I think they're called pires. It did give me a
- 10:37Speaker 1: different appreciation for Mayorka as well, because of all the
- 10:42Speaker 1: great jellyfish they have there, because I was also stung
- 10:44Speaker 1: by jellyfish. I didn't realize it. I don't know if
- 10:48Speaker 1: you can even see anymore. I got out and I
- 10:49Speaker 1: was looking at my rubbing my arm was like, oh,
- 10:51Speaker 1: my arm feels hot. Did I burn it on a
- 10:53Speaker 1: curling iron? We didn't have a curling iron, so I
- 10:55Speaker 1: knew that wasn't it. And it would have been great
- 10:57Speaker 1: if you did have a curling iron and you got
- 10:58Speaker 1: it to the beach and he was like, oh, no,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you're stung by jellyfish. He goes, but you know a
- 11:03Speaker 1: lot of times their toxins aren't like intense enough to
- 11:05Speaker 1: hurt you. And he's like, well, do I need to
- 11:07Speaker 1: pee on it? I was like, I don't want you to,
- 11:10Speaker 1: but he didn't. He did anyway, Well, it was fully clothed.
- 11:14Speaker 1: That doesn't really make a difference. Okay, So what do
- 11:19Speaker 1: we got on tap Today's sweetheart? Drugs sobriety? Oh, sobriety. Okay,
- 11:23Speaker 1: Well that's boring but necessary for some people. Well let's
- 11:27Speaker 1: find out who it's necessary for. Okay. Well, before we
- 11:30Speaker 1: get to sobriety, it feels like you want to take
- 11:32Speaker 1: a break. I feel like we should take a break eventually, prepare. Okay,
- 11:37Speaker 1: you've done special on drugs, so people often ask you
- 11:39Speaker 1: for your advice or input on drugs, and this is
- 11:42Speaker 1: something that's pretty consistent across the board. So Scott writes
- 11:44Speaker 1: in and he says, Dear Chelsea, I'm a big fan
- 11:46Speaker 1: of recreational cocaine, and it's gotten to the point where
- 11:49Speaker 1: I find myself micro dosing at work. My colleagues and
- 11:53Speaker 1: my boss have both commented on how productive I've been
- 11:56Speaker 1: over the past few weeks. However, they are unaware of
- 11:58Speaker 1: the fact that I'm very much high. Is it a
- 12:03Speaker 1: bad thing if it's helping me at work? Thanks Scott?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Oh my god, wait, wait, micro dosinc. Yes, he's micro
- 12:12Speaker 1: docin cocaine. I don't know. Docin cocaine is excellent. Okay,
- 12:16Speaker 1: read it one more time. Let me just listen to it, Okay,
- 12:19Speaker 1: Dear Chelsea. I'm a big fan of recreational cocaine, and
- 12:22Speaker 1: it's gotten to the point where I find myself micro
- 12:24Speaker 1: dosing at work. My colleagues and my boss have both
- 12:27Speaker 1: commented on how productive I've been over the last few weeks. However,
- 12:31Speaker 1: they are unaware of the fact that I am very
- 12:33Speaker 1: much high. Is this a bad thing? If it's helping
- 12:35Speaker 1: me at work? This is a real predicament for Scott
- 12:41Speaker 1: because the results are positive, and so it's very tricky
- 12:46Speaker 1: to to give him sound advice certainly. I mean, he
- 12:51Speaker 1: raises a point that why are you it's a micro
- 12:54Speaker 1: dose certain drugs, but those drugs are psychedelic drugs, and
- 13:00Speaker 1: cocaine is like a narcotic. What is it a Class
- 13:05Speaker 1: three narcotic? I couldn't tell you. I mean, there's really
- 13:08Speaker 1: no good argument or science data driven that cocaine it's
- 13:15Speaker 1: good for you. I mean, I can't imagine that that's
- 13:18Speaker 1: an easy feet throughout the day to just be doing
- 13:21Speaker 1: a line in the bathroom, you know, and it's it's
- 13:24Speaker 1: dirty and it's gross, and you're snorting it through your nose.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So like mixing that in the workplace. As much as
- 13:30Speaker 1: I would like to be an advocate for that, I
- 13:33Speaker 1: have to say that it's not okay. You're on a
- 13:36Speaker 1: slippery slope because also you just don't know what kind
- 13:39Speaker 1: of cocaine you're getting, and whether you like it or
- 13:42Speaker 1: not doesn't tell you what people are using to put
- 13:45Speaker 1: in it and cut it with. And like you're polluting
- 13:48Speaker 1: your body, you know, and you com pollute your body
- 13:50Speaker 1: in so many other ways that are less legal damaging.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And as we know, Chelsea believes that your body is
- 13:58Speaker 1: a temple and it should not be tainted. Your body
- 14:00Speaker 1: is yeah, exactly, your body is a temple. That's what
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm going with. No, no, no, wait, hold on, the
- 14:07Speaker 1: cocaine used to that degree is not recommended for anyone. Scott.
- 14:13Speaker 1: You you got to like dial it back and find
- 14:17Speaker 1: something else that gives you the pep in your step.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I know, cocaine feels good and you like for the moment.
- 14:22Speaker 1: It will not last like that, It won't. So this
- 14:26Speaker 1: is a hard question. So what do you take when
- 14:28Speaker 1: you need a little perk up? Well, I had to
- 14:30Speaker 1: take one of my energy drinks, like a five hour energy.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You love a five hour energy. I don't love it.
- 14:35Speaker 1: It's just it's a necessary evil. I don't love the
- 14:38Speaker 1: way it tastes. I don't love the fact that I
- 14:40Speaker 1: need it. But you know what, I also like this
- 14:42Speaker 1: Macha green teath. This guy is not gonna This guy
- 14:45Speaker 1: is saying much. Saying much. This guy is like saying
- 14:49Speaker 1: melotoneinto me. You know, it's it's a moot. So do
- 14:52Speaker 1: try a five hour energy because that does give me
- 14:55Speaker 1: a jolt. But yeah, lay off the coke at work.
- 15:00Speaker 1: What would you think if I started to do drugs
- 15:02Speaker 1: at work? Well, you are doing drugs at work, I presume,
- 15:05Speaker 1: I mean you take edibles and stuff, don't you. Can
- 15:08Speaker 1: you imagine if you walked in on me just doing
- 15:10Speaker 1: coke at the kitchen counter. Honestly, at this point, Brandon,
- 15:13Speaker 1: I really just wouldn't. I wouldn't even mind. Like I
- 15:16Speaker 1: would be like, if that's what you need to do
- 15:17Speaker 1: to get you through the day, I would be surprised.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I definitely would be surprised that you were blowing lines
- 15:22Speaker 1: at the kitchen table. I've never done coke before, but
- 15:25Speaker 1: I often think that I would like to try because
- 15:27Speaker 1: i've because I don't think you have the personality for coke. Well,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and I trust your recommendation. We've had lengthy discussions about
- 15:35Speaker 1: different drugs and what you'll thrive under, and that is
- 15:38Speaker 1: not one of them. No. Mushrooms, on the other hand,
- 15:41Speaker 1: which you introduced me to, have been very positive. Have
- 15:44Speaker 1: you been doing the chocolate mushrooms lately? Not often, but yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 1: I keep a chocolate bar in the fridge. Yeah. I
- 15:49Speaker 1: took a chocolate mushroom the other day and it had
- 15:51Speaker 1: the adverse effect of putting me in a good mood
- 15:54Speaker 1: because I was going to work out with Ben Bruno
- 15:56Speaker 1: and I need something, you know, to do that for
- 15:58Speaker 1: an hour. It's like I need to be stone loomy, yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 1: or lobotomy. And so I took a piece of chocolate
- 16:04Speaker 1: and I went over there, and he was extra annoying
- 16:08Speaker 1: on that day. Sorry, almost turned my mushroom, it did.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Even though I can't blame it on someone else, I will.
- 16:15Speaker 1: It turned my mushroom experience around because Ben, you know,
- 16:20Speaker 1: he can ruin anything. Yeah, that's like the first time, well,
- 16:22Speaker 1: first and only time I took Molly. I took it
- 16:24Speaker 1: and I went to my first like gay warehouse party
- 16:27Speaker 1: where one's dancing. There's no words in the music which
- 16:29Speaker 1: is the fucking worst. And I walk in and immediately
- 16:32Speaker 1: everyone's very touching and feely, and I guess that's what
- 16:35Speaker 1: Molly is supposed to do. And I was highly irritable,
- 16:37Speaker 1: like a fourteen out of ten. I walked in. I go,
- 16:39Speaker 1: first of all, it smells like fucking taco seasoning and
- 16:41Speaker 1: here everyone has b O. I want to get out.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And then people come up and they're like rubbing on
- 16:45Speaker 1: you and they're touching it. I just look this guy
- 16:46Speaker 1: in the face, I go, do not touch me. I go,
- 16:49Speaker 1: whatever you're feeling, I'm not feeling feeling. I wish I were,
- 16:51Speaker 1: because this is so unenjoyable, weird that you had that
- 16:54Speaker 1: reaction to time. Now I don't feel like I need
- 16:56Speaker 1: to do it again. But yeah, well yeah that's too bad,
- 16:59Speaker 1: because as Molly is fun. I did some Molly when
- 17:01Speaker 1: I was in Canada. It was really fun. You see,
- 17:03Speaker 1: you always have a good time. I feel like, yeah, well,
- 17:05Speaker 1: I just set my intention and that's to have a
- 17:08Speaker 1: good time. Now I'll know for next time. Oh and
- 17:10Speaker 1: for clarification purposes, we did look it up. Cocaine is
- 17:13Speaker 1: a level two grade to narcotic, so I misspoke as usual, okay.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Our next mission comes from Shane. He is thirty years
- 17:21Speaker 1: old out of California. He writes, Dear Chelsea, I've been
- 17:25Speaker 1: smoking weed since I was seventeen. I'm almost thirty one,
- 17:28Speaker 1: and no matter how many times I try and smoke less,
- 17:30Speaker 1: I fail. Shane, I feel like a month long break
- 17:33Speaker 1: would benefit me as I don't really get high anymore.
- 17:36Speaker 1: This sounds just like is this you, sweetheart? Let me see.
- 17:39Speaker 1: All three of my roommates partakes, so there's always weed
- 17:42Speaker 1: and bongs, pipes and paraphernalia around the house. What do
- 17:46Speaker 1: I do? Shane? Shanee? This is a common issue where
- 17:50Speaker 1: you have sweetheart on the phone because she deals with this. Shane.
- 17:53Speaker 1: If you're not hi, Shane, how you doing good? How
- 17:56Speaker 1: are you? I'm good, I'm good. You're so cute? Then
- 18:00Speaker 1: are you there right now? If you're not getting high,
- 18:05Speaker 1: you have to take a break. It's the only way
- 18:07Speaker 1: to get your high back. You have to take a
- 18:08Speaker 1: month off. So when I was developing this brand of
- 18:11Speaker 1: weed that I haven't still haven't released yet, they explained
- 18:14Speaker 1: to me that you can either take a week a
- 18:16Speaker 1: month off or a month a year off, and that
- 18:19Speaker 1: is how you maintain the intensity of your highs. So
- 18:23Speaker 1: I do that. I don't have that. I have done it.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I have done it and it works. But if you
- 18:29Speaker 1: really can't get high anymore, you need to take a break.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I don't know what to tell you about your roommates.
- 18:33Speaker 1: It's gonna involve some serious world power. I have none.
- 18:37Speaker 1: What are the repercussions of the Shane? You have a
- 18:41Speaker 1: terrible memory? Right? Is this correct? You've just spent the
- 18:45Speaker 1: most crucial years infecting your brain or actually diminishing your
- 18:48Speaker 1: brain capacity. So yeah, you've got to take a break.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I agree. I've been smoking since I was seventeen, even
- 18:55Speaker 1: with my dad as a teenager, so it's like ingrained
- 18:57Speaker 1: in my DNA at this point. Okay, well quickly, what's
- 19:00Speaker 1: seventeen times seventeen? Well, I don't know exactly. How's your
- 19:05Speaker 1: dad doing? How's his mental alacrity? Oh he's way worse
- 19:09Speaker 1: than I am. Okay, well, you should use that as
- 19:11Speaker 1: an example of what not to do. Right, that's true.
- 19:14Speaker 1: But he's also an alcoholic on top of that, so
- 19:15Speaker 1: he's lost. Well he's doubling down. That's not gonna be
- 19:18Speaker 1: good for anyone. But there is still time. Are you
- 19:20Speaker 1: an alcoholic. To Shane, you don't drink. I drink, just
- 19:25Speaker 1: not to that extent. Okay, So why don't you just
- 19:27Speaker 1: focus on having a couple of beers here and there
- 19:29Speaker 1: instead of your weed for a month. I swear if
- 19:31Speaker 1: you do it, we should incentivize him somehow. There's no
- 19:34Speaker 1: way to know if he's going to stick with this.
- 19:36Speaker 1: He is a pothead. He's not gonna remember. First of all,
- 19:39Speaker 1: I mean, let's hear what the incentive is. I don't know.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I was just thinking about what we could do to
- 19:42Speaker 1: incentivize you. I don't know. I didn't have anything. Because
- 19:45Speaker 1: if I start giving out prizes to people, then that's
- 19:47Speaker 1: what this podcast will be about. People will call him
- 19:49Speaker 1: with fake problems wanting you know. I was going to
- 19:52Speaker 1: offer you some cash, but I realize I can't do that.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Well disclaimer, Shane only gets prized, but there is still
- 19:58Speaker 1: time for you to correct your memory loss. Like there
- 20:01Speaker 1: are so many apps now that you can download in
- 20:04Speaker 1: little game and brain teasers, and I do them all
- 20:07Speaker 1: the time because I feel like you. Granted I don't
- 20:10Speaker 1: smoke like you, I would assume, but he's not worried
- 20:12Speaker 1: about that. He's not worried about his brain Aboucity. He's
- 20:14Speaker 1: worried about actually not getting high anymore. But that's all
- 20:17Speaker 1: that you're worried about. Then there are then there are
- 20:19Speaker 1: bigger issues, Shane. I can guarantee you that, Shane without Okay, Well, Shane,
- 20:25Speaker 1: you're first of all, you're adorable, so you've got that
- 20:27Speaker 1: going for you. And you called in to get advice,
- 20:30Speaker 1: so you clearly are serious, right about taking a break
- 20:33Speaker 1: from weed. What can you do to give your Please
- 20:36Speaker 1: don't call me ma'am. Okay, that is just not except
- 20:38Speaker 1: you say ma'am or I am I am? Yeah, great answer.
- 20:42Speaker 1: So what do you do for work? First of all,
- 20:45Speaker 1: I work in a a vy warehouse doing shipping receiving
- 20:48Speaker 1: and like deliveries and stuff, and I often forget to
- 20:52Speaker 1: bring ship on deliveries, right, your favorite thing. You often
- 20:56Speaker 1: forget to bring the actual equipment that you're supposed to
- 20:58Speaker 1: deliver right because Okay, so you need to Okay, so
- 21:01Speaker 1: you need to think of this as an investment in
- 21:03Speaker 1: your future. Like if you take this month off really
- 21:07Speaker 1: seriously and assess your life, and you are cognizant and
- 21:10Speaker 1: kind of like take the month just to be real
- 21:13Speaker 1: and present and not escape, like use it as escapism,
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know, treat yourself to beers here and there. Obviously,
- 21:18Speaker 1: don't go overboard on that either, because that's not really
- 21:21Speaker 1: like a detox, but really try and take a month off.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I honestly think you're going to feel a lot differently
- 21:26Speaker 1: about pot once you're done with it, and then you'll
- 21:28Speaker 1: have both things. You'll have a clear sense of like
- 21:30Speaker 1: what your future is going to hold in a little
- 21:32Speaker 1: bit more direction, and you'll also be able to get
- 21:35Speaker 1: stoned a lot more easily. Yes, that sounds great and
- 21:38Speaker 1: it seems like I already know the answer to this.
- 21:40Speaker 1: But are there reasons for your habitual use? Like is
- 21:44Speaker 1: it stress, depression, anxiety? Or are you just doing it
- 21:47Speaker 1: all the time? Like you couldn't even tell me at
- 21:49Speaker 1: this point. Who isn't stressed or depressed at this point?
- 21:52Speaker 1: But it's just always there? Okay, I like go home
- 21:56Speaker 1: at the end of the day and just get stoned
- 21:57Speaker 1: and chill in my couch. And are you taking edibles
- 21:59Speaker 1: at work? Are you stone while you're working? Edibles don't
- 22:02Speaker 1: even infect me? Yeah, then you're really far gone. Then
- 22:05Speaker 1: you really need the month. You might need a month
- 22:06Speaker 1: and a half, but you do. You definitely need to
- 22:09Speaker 1: get a little bit of a like clear idea of
- 22:12Speaker 1: when you do it mindlessly like that, then it kind
- 22:14Speaker 1: of has lost its luster, right Yeah, yeah, I even
- 22:18Speaker 1: have it right here, right right, So yeah, I wish
- 22:21Speaker 1: I had it right here. I wonder if there's any
- 22:24Speaker 1: I don't know. Okay, well I haven't had I can't
- 22:26Speaker 1: find any weed. And I know this is a good
- 22:28Speaker 1: practice for you to. Okay, well i'll do Maybe I'll
- 22:30Speaker 1: go a month with him. What if I do it
- 22:32Speaker 1: with you? Will that help you? I think that would. Okay,
- 22:35Speaker 1: I can commit to a month of no weed, and
- 22:37Speaker 1: are you Are you guys going to do something in
- 22:39Speaker 1: its place, because that's what I would think. I'll just exercise, Shane,
- 22:42Speaker 1: what are you gonna do? We're gonna check in. We
- 22:44Speaker 1: we need to check in with him a little bit
- 22:45Speaker 1: more regularly because he's going to have a hard time
- 22:47Speaker 1: with us. I'm gonna actually, you know what, Shane, I'm
- 22:50Speaker 1: gonna have a hard time with this too because I
- 22:53Speaker 1: rely on edibles to go to sleep every night, and
- 22:56Speaker 1: I'm just gonna take it out of my repertoire for
- 22:58Speaker 1: one month. Okay, I'll do it. Okay, what's this holiday
- 23:01Speaker 1: going to be called? Brandon? I don't doomsday for me
- 23:04Speaker 1: because you but I still have the chocolate mushrooms. Oh great, great, great? Okay,
- 23:09Speaker 1: so do you need chocolate mushroom, Shane. I actually have
- 23:12Speaker 1: chocolate mushrooms. Okay, so those are fine during this time, okay, okay,
- 23:17Speaker 1: like a low dose Shane. Let's so, what's the date.
- 23:20Speaker 1: We'll just do a month from today, right, okay? Okay, Yeah,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I'm gonna be talking about this on my Instagram and stuff.
- 23:26Speaker 1: So watch because I'm not going to fall off the wagon.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna do thirty days. And if you fall off
- 23:30Speaker 1: the wagon, you need to notify us. I would never
- 23:33Speaker 1: fall off the wagon. Okay, I told you I'll do
- 23:35Speaker 1: it all right. Sounds good? Thanks Shane. Thanks Shane. Oh Shane,
- 23:38Speaker 1: real quick? Actually wait, I hear that you used to
- 23:40Speaker 1: steal Chelsea's books. Maybe, Shane, are you straight? Uh No,
- 23:45Speaker 1: I'm queer, okay, I like everybody? Yeah? Good, okay, Well
- 23:49Speaker 1: then I have a fallow up to that too, So
- 23:50Speaker 1: I have multiple Now, Shane, what is the difference in
- 23:53Speaker 1: queer and pan sexual? Would they be one of the same? Yeah,
- 23:58Speaker 1: at least I mean everybody's because it's like you can
- 24:00Speaker 1: fall in love with anyone regarding their gender and what
- 24:03Speaker 1: they were biologically at birth. Right, Yeah, okay, I'll never
- 24:08Speaker 1: I'll never understand. Well, that doesn't work out because you're
- 24:11Speaker 1: you're gay and you need to know these things. For me,
- 24:14Speaker 1: there's a lot to keep up with. It's hard to
- 24:16Speaker 1: understand it all. Yeah, seriously, Well that's what Shane's here
- 24:19Speaker 1: for apparently, and what's the deal with the book? By
- 24:22Speaker 1: the way, that also, you know your seman count Shane also,
- 24:24Speaker 1: if you want to have children one day, is deeply
- 24:27Speaker 1: affected by marijuana abuse at that age. Here's the thing.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I'm trance, so I don't have any human all right,
- 24:33Speaker 1: Well there there you go. Well, no, wonder why you're
- 24:37Speaker 1: so cute. Did you seal every book? Was this a
- 24:39Speaker 1: one off situation? No, it was just two and they
- 24:42Speaker 1: were used, so it was like not full price, so
- 24:47Speaker 1: really you were doing them a service. Anyways, I would
- 24:48Speaker 1: encourage anybody who can steal any of my books to
- 24:51Speaker 1: do so. They were great. That's good. I'm glad. I'm
- 24:54Speaker 1: glad that's what they're there for your enjoyment. Yeah. I
- 24:57Speaker 1: used to sit in them all and read them during
- 24:59Speaker 1: during much. I love that. Keep us posted. We're going
- 25:02Speaker 1: to check in. We'll figure out a time to get
- 25:03Speaker 1: you back on Okay, alright, Shane, good luck, good luck? Okay,
- 25:07Speaker 1: together together, we're doing it. By Shane. Bye. There is
- 25:13Speaker 1: no fucking way that I'm going thirty days without a
- 25:17Speaker 1: fucking a chance. But I just made that promise to him.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I know, sweetheart, but things happen. I know. But I
- 25:23Speaker 1: what about the next caller that I make a promise too.
- 25:25Speaker 1: We have to well, if it's not weed related, I
- 25:27Speaker 1: would have much more faith in you. Okay, But okay,
- 25:33Speaker 1: I'm just thinking if I want to follow through on
- 25:35Speaker 1: my word, you could, Shane, I could do thirty days
- 25:39Speaker 1: without pot and see what happens. What did you feel
- 25:42Speaker 1: like happened after your binge at the beginning of the
- 25:46Speaker 1: pandemic and your time and whistler? Because you have pretty
- 25:48Speaker 1: consistent use throughout the day most days, right, I think
- 25:52Speaker 1: there are times where I find myself to be extra stupid.
- 25:56Speaker 1: That's what I'm really bored, and I smoke pot like
- 26:00Speaker 1: I don't. This is why it's going to be good
- 26:01Speaker 1: for me to take a month offt You need to
- 26:02Speaker 1: do this, Actually, It's also that I'm easily influenced, and
- 26:06Speaker 1: I'm also don't remember things well, you simultaneously remember everything. Oh. Also,
- 26:12Speaker 1: the time that I took a picture I was in
- 26:13Speaker 1: someone's car and whistler, and I said, I really liked
- 26:15Speaker 1: this car and sent the video to Brandon and he
- 26:17Speaker 1: told me you already have this car, and most recently
- 26:20Speaker 1: this weekend. I wasn't gonna say anything, but it's a
- 26:22Speaker 1: perfect segway. Here is you were looking for joints and
- 26:26Speaker 1: I had told you where they were hours prior, and
- 26:30Speaker 1: you had gone to look for them. And I know
- 26:31Speaker 1: this because we were on Marco Polo And then you
- 26:34Speaker 1: had said, sweetheart, where are the joints? And I told
- 26:36Speaker 1: you again, and I said, I don't know if there's
- 26:38Speaker 1: going to be enough left. You said, oh, I've not
- 26:40Speaker 1: ever looked for them, so I'm sure that it's fully stocked.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Mind you, you had just done it hours before, so
- 26:45Speaker 1: it's probably time the test, sweetheart. Okay, Okay, then, well,
- 26:51Speaker 1: so our next mission comes from Robin. She lives in
- 26:54Speaker 1: Costa Rica. She's in her thirties, and nobody lives in Darika,
- 27:00Speaker 1: who doesn't serve. She writes, dear, Chelsea. I went from
- 27:03Speaker 1: a peace loving yoga teacher to a raging maniac. Help.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I was sober and single my entire twenties as an
- 27:09Speaker 1: no mind altering substances except for an occasional spliff and
- 27:12Speaker 1: yearly Ayahwaska retreats. Oh Special, Maybe I know her desperate
- 27:17Speaker 1: to find love. In my thirties, I went into two
- 27:19Speaker 1: consecutive relationships that may or may not have been with
- 27:21Speaker 1: narcissistic and manipulative men. Well they basically all are who
- 27:25Speaker 1: are both drug addicts. I developed a very meaningful relationship
- 27:28Speaker 1: with ketamine, like very meaningful, like I would roll out
- 27:31Speaker 1: of bed and wake up with a line and sometimes
- 27:35Speaker 1: a line and a homemade kombucha champagne cocktail for months.
- 27:38Speaker 1: This is my question. If I have to do ketamine
- 27:41Speaker 1: all day, every day and occasionally drink in order to
- 27:43Speaker 1: tolerate the relationship I'm in, how much longer should I
- 27:46Speaker 1: stay in said relationship? I know it seems like there
- 27:50Speaker 1: is an obvious answer to this question, but I am guessing.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I'm asking sincerely because it seems like the only other
- 27:55Speaker 1: options are one to be with someone who will literally
- 27:58Speaker 1: bore me to death, or two you with someone who
- 28:00Speaker 1: will annoy me to death? Did you write this? I know?
- 28:04Speaker 1: I was like, listen to how you can't get away
- 28:06Speaker 1: from people annoying you. You just have to learn how
- 28:08Speaker 1: to cope with it. But not like this. Well, she
- 28:10Speaker 1: finishes off. I guess I mostly just feel like the
- 28:12Speaker 1: same thing will just keep happening, so it's not just
- 28:15Speaker 1: tough a out and it will eventually get better. Robin,
- 28:18Speaker 1: what's the ps oh, she says. Ps I'm actually in
- 28:20Speaker 1: Costa Rica right now and have been sober for over
- 28:22Speaker 1: a month. But I don't necessarily want to be hell O,
- 28:25Speaker 1: L I do feel good, though this really seems like
- 28:28Speaker 1: a letter you would write. Well, yeah, if I were
- 28:30Speaker 1: snorting ketamine every morning, Okay, Robin, I mean, Robin, you
- 28:36Speaker 1: have to stop snorting kennemine. That's snorting anything is not good.
- 28:41Speaker 1: And this is coming from somebody who has snorted lots
- 28:43Speaker 1: of things. Don't snort ketamine. Please please do it for me.
- 28:48Speaker 1: And if you have to do any of these things
- 28:50Speaker 1: to be in a relationship, then these people are fucking
- 28:53Speaker 1: idiots and you can't be around them. You can't drug
- 28:56Speaker 1: yourself in order to tolerate people. Drugs should be an
- 28:59Speaker 1: enhanced or is what I've what I've realized, your sweetheart,
- 29:01Speaker 1: that it should just boost things. You shouldn't take them
- 29:04Speaker 1: to cope with things. Right, right, And let me be clear,
- 29:08Speaker 1: because I talk about my use of cannabis a lot
- 29:10Speaker 1: as a coping mechanism, and this is true. I do.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I do use cannabis as a coping mechanism, and I have.
- 29:17Speaker 1: But I've also realized that he that's not the main
- 29:21Speaker 1: reason I do use it, and I tried never to
- 29:23Speaker 1: use it to cope with someone. I try not to
- 29:25Speaker 1: have it as the reason have someone as the reason
- 29:28Speaker 1: that I need to smoke a joint or take an edible.
- 29:31Speaker 1: You have to change your perspective about that. Right, you
- 29:33Speaker 1: should be able. You just said you're feeling good. You've
- 29:35Speaker 1: been sober for a month, and you're feeling good that
- 29:38Speaker 1: the proof is in the pudding. Like you, You just
- 29:40Speaker 1: showed yourself that you don't have to operate in that way.
- 29:44Speaker 1: All of these things will end up in flames. Dating
- 29:48Speaker 1: any drug addict is going to end badly unless that
- 29:51Speaker 1: person is working very hard to get sober. And you
- 29:54Speaker 1: don't need to date a drug addict. There are plenty
- 29:56Speaker 1: of options for you. To date people that are not
- 29:59Speaker 1: drug addicts. And the other option is for you to
- 30:01Speaker 1: remain alone and actually do some like soul searching and
- 30:05Speaker 1: inner work so that you're not going to find yourself
- 30:07Speaker 1: in a situation like this. Again, sweetheart, do you need
- 30:10Speaker 1: to weigh in? I just think that that was beautifully said.
- 30:13Speaker 1: I don't know that there's ever an appropriate time to
- 30:16Speaker 1: take drugs to manage your relationship. I think that that's
- 30:20Speaker 1: and stop snorting things. No snorting, no snorting. I wish
- 30:25Speaker 1: I could, I wish I could. I wish I could
- 30:26Speaker 1: make a snorting now noise. Now's with my note now Schnauzer,
- 30:32Speaker 1: there you go, Thank you, sweetheart. Welcome Please, Robin, just
- 30:35Speaker 1: for me, stop that be alone. Why don't you give
- 30:38Speaker 1: yourself three months to be alone and be sober, and
- 30:41Speaker 1: I bet you at the end of that you're gonna
- 30:43Speaker 1: have a lot of different thoughts than you do right now. Okay,
- 30:45Speaker 1: So our next mission comes from Confused in California, thirty
- 30:49Speaker 1: years old. They write, Dear Chelsea, I need some advice
- 30:53Speaker 1: with a friend who's struggling with sobriety. My childhood best
- 30:55Speaker 1: friend has recently acknowledged that she's an alcoholic. I live
- 30:58Speaker 1: here in California and she lives in Rhode Island. I
- 31:00Speaker 1: told her, I'm so proud of you. I support you.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I will do anything to help you. I researched counseling
- 31:05Speaker 1: services and resources for her to start her sober journey,
- 31:09Speaker 1: and checked in with her frequently on her progress. This
- 31:12Speaker 1: enlightened moment was unfortunately short lived, as it quickly turned
- 31:15Speaker 1: into an oh, just one glass of wine tonight, or
- 31:17Speaker 1: I won't drink the entire bottle. Not today, Katie, I
- 31:20Speaker 1: need to relax. I'm trying to remain positive and supportive,
- 31:24Speaker 1: but I'm frustrated that I'm going to have to watch
- 31:26Speaker 1: my friends slam into rock bottom? Do I need therapy?
- 31:29Speaker 1: Do I need to cut her out of my life?
- 31:30Speaker 1: And I am enabler? Am I annoying? I'm so freaked
- 31:33Speaker 1: out that the next phone call I have with her
- 31:35Speaker 1: will be the last. Any advice or compassion on the
- 31:39Speaker 1: issue would be a huge breath of relief. Hi Anonymous,
- 31:43Speaker 1: Hi Chelsea, Hi Brandon, Hi, Hi, thanks for writing in
- 31:48Speaker 1: so How short lived was your friend's sobriety? Well, it's
- 31:53Speaker 1: back and forth, and it's new, it's fresh. Um, I
- 31:56Speaker 1: think this is her first time really acknowledging that there's
- 32:00Speaker 1: a bigger issue that she wants to focus on. Since
- 32:04Speaker 1: I wrote in, she has been making some big strides
- 32:07Speaker 1: and some big steps on trying to find help and
- 32:11Speaker 1: support and therapy. But I think really unfortunately in this country,
- 32:15Speaker 1: mental health help can be so hard to find, especially
- 32:20Speaker 1: if you don't have insurance or you don't have the
- 32:22Speaker 1: right insurance. So she's trying, and I'm trying to help her,
- 32:26Speaker 1: but still new and fresh. Yeah, so you seem like
- 32:31Speaker 1: a really good friend a So there's that to be
- 32:34Speaker 1: grateful for and proud of, right, thank you? Yeah, Yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 1: I've had this experience. I was just with a friend
- 32:40Speaker 1: this morning who recently got sober, well like you know,
- 32:43Speaker 1: six months ago, but she went to rehab. There was
- 32:46Speaker 1: a big intervention. I had told her myself that there
- 32:49Speaker 1: was a problem, and then she had a big intervention
- 32:51Speaker 1: and that's when she went to rehab and she came
- 32:53Speaker 1: out and she is living the high life. She's like,
- 32:56Speaker 1: this is the best adventure I've ever been on. Is sobriety.
- 32:59Speaker 1: So there is hope for all of these people, you know,
- 33:02Speaker 1: So don't ever give up on people. First of all,
- 33:04Speaker 1: because people do change just when you least expect it.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Sometimes they change, you know, when they hit their rock bottom.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Some people don't need to hit a rock bottom. So
- 33:12Speaker 1: first and foremost, there are tools for you to know about. Oh,
- 33:16Speaker 1: oh my god, this book that's sitting right here, Set Boundaries,
- 33:20Speaker 1: Find Peace, A Guide to reclaiming Yourself. Look at this book.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I just picked this up because it was about codependence
- 33:26Speaker 1: and counterdependence and it really expliccause I'm like, oh, I'm
- 33:29Speaker 1: not codependent. And it's like, well, when you enable somebody
- 33:32Speaker 1: and you make their problems your problems, and you talk
- 33:36Speaker 1: about their problems like they're your problems, that is codependent.
- 33:40Speaker 1: That's huge codependent. I think I suffer from counter dependency,
- 33:43Speaker 1: which will get into later because this isn't really about
- 33:46Speaker 1: me right now. Sometimes I forget. But you don't want
- 33:49Speaker 1: to be a codependent friend, right You don't want to
- 33:51Speaker 1: enable her, but you do want to be supportive of her,
- 33:54Speaker 1: and so that if she does make a mistake, there's
- 33:57Speaker 1: not anything punitive from you as a friend. It's like, oh, okay,
- 34:01Speaker 1: we had to slip up. Well, I guess we as
- 34:03Speaker 1: probably codependent too, right, but like you had to slip
- 34:07Speaker 1: up that's okay, it's not the end of the world.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I'm still here for you. And it's like, like you're
- 34:13Speaker 1: a team member for her, right, you know you want
- 34:16Speaker 1: to act like that, like she can rely on you.
- 34:18Speaker 1: I have that with my friends. It's so important for
- 34:20Speaker 1: me to be the reliable one, Like I want to
- 34:22Speaker 1: do what I say and say what I do and
- 34:24Speaker 1: show up. So I get that. But what's the latest
- 34:28Speaker 1: with her? What have the last few weeks been? Like, Well,
- 34:31Speaker 1: I think she's at the point where she's ready to
- 34:36Speaker 1: get into treatment and she's ready to find the support
- 34:39Speaker 1: that she needs. But I think she's still in that
- 34:42Speaker 1: realization of, Oh, I can't have a glass of wine
- 34:45Speaker 1: on Friday. Oh I have to tell people I can't
- 34:48Speaker 1: have champagne at their wedding. I have to I can't.
- 34:51Speaker 1: You know, it's a social thing that she's starting to realize,
- 34:54Speaker 1: which you're right, I'm probably codependent of like no one cares.
- 34:58Speaker 1: It's just me. I love you, and I'm like hyper
- 35:01Speaker 1: positive and I just don't want to be like annoying.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Like I can imagine somebody that's having those realizations of
- 35:09Speaker 1: you know, this is something I'm going to have to
- 35:11Speaker 1: deal with the rest of my life. I'm like, nah, girl,
- 35:13Speaker 1: you're good. Shut up. This isn't about you. So I
- 35:16Speaker 1: think I just I think that's really helpful to hear.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Is maybe I never realized I was codependent on her.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Is a part of my personality of trying to help
- 35:27Speaker 1: is I need to step back and let her take charge.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Well yeah, and you can be like a ballast of
- 35:34Speaker 1: support for her, you know, but you are not her, right,
- 35:38Speaker 1: So that's a good reminder and you don't want to play.
- 35:40Speaker 1: You should pick up this book though, because it's really
- 35:42Speaker 1: about like all that kind of stuff. And I was
- 35:44Speaker 1: reading and I was like, oh my god, this is
- 35:45Speaker 1: so good for me to read again. It's called Set Boundaries,
- 35:48Speaker 1: Fine Piece by Nedra Glover tawab t A w w
- 35:52Speaker 1: A B. Anyway, the other thing that is helpful that
- 35:56Speaker 1: I learned from one of my friends who got sober
- 35:59Speaker 1: was to not make it a permanent thing, to not
- 36:02Speaker 1: think of it as a permanent thing, to not think
- 36:05Speaker 1: of it as I can never have a drink again,
- 36:07Speaker 1: you know. I mean, it's like kind of like what
- 36:09Speaker 1: they do in a a which is, you know, take
- 36:11Speaker 1: it one day at a time. But there's a permanence.
- 36:13Speaker 1: When people say like I can never have sugar again,
- 36:17Speaker 1: or I can never have a cigarette again. You know,
- 36:21Speaker 1: hopefully that's you don't ever have another cigarette. But I
- 36:24Speaker 1: don't even think you smoke, So I don't, but she does,
- 36:27Speaker 1: and you know that's like so I'm like, all right,
- 36:30Speaker 1: we gotta really balance our our demons here. And I
- 36:34Speaker 1: guess cigarettes. You know. That's the thing too, is there's
- 36:37Speaker 1: a lot of things that I don't do that I'm like, oh,
- 36:40Speaker 1: it's trying to stop, you know, And that's the opposite
- 36:44Speaker 1: of what people in her situation want to hear. So
- 36:48Speaker 1: I think you're right. Is as much as I can
- 36:50Speaker 1: just be that support and be like, it's maybe it's
- 36:53Speaker 1: not permanent. I just I wonder too. This is kind
- 36:56Speaker 1: of a hot topic of conversation because we live in California,
- 37:00Speaker 1: the idea of California sober I've heard that a lot recently,
- 37:04Speaker 1: and and it's something that her and I talk about,
- 37:07Speaker 1: is do you cut out you know, what the substance
- 37:11Speaker 1: is that you feel that you're addicted to, or are
- 37:13Speaker 1: things like weed and cigarettes? Are those still okay? Yeah?
- 37:17Speaker 1: And I think that's you know, that's obviously going to
- 37:19Speaker 1: be a personal choice for her, but like if she
- 37:21Speaker 1: has an addiction problem, it's great to cut everything out
- 37:23Speaker 1: for a period of time and then recalibrate, right and
- 37:26Speaker 1: you know, when she's going to a wedding or she's
- 37:28Speaker 1: going to event, she doesn't, you know, if she has
- 37:30Speaker 1: to tell if somebody she's not drinking. She just said
- 37:32Speaker 1: I'm not drinking right now. I'm not drinking right now.
- 37:35Speaker 1: And that's much less of a big deal than saying
- 37:37Speaker 1: I'm sober or I'm not drinking again, you know what
- 37:40Speaker 1: I mean. It takes the drama out of it. So
- 37:42Speaker 1: maybe you can help her reframe that in her mind
- 37:45Speaker 1: as well. Yeah, I think I think it's all fear,
- 37:49Speaker 1: which is totally normal. You know. I think at thirty,
- 37:53Speaker 1: we're at the point where it's like we can go
- 37:56Speaker 1: on vacation and get crazy, but you can't do that
- 38:00Speaker 1: on a Tuesday at eight am. I think that finally
- 38:03Speaker 1: was the point that she got to of like, oh
- 38:06Speaker 1: my other friends aren't doing this, or you know, we're
- 38:09Speaker 1: not on vacation. I shouldn't be, you know, drinking this
- 38:12Speaker 1: earlier all day every day. So it's it's such a
- 38:16Speaker 1: learning curve that I don't know if as a kid,
- 38:19Speaker 1: I saw this happening for our relationship. But I'm just
- 38:23Speaker 1: happy she's okay and wants to take these steps and
- 38:25Speaker 1: we're able to get advice from people like you and
- 38:28Speaker 1: other professionals that that know what they're talking about because
- 38:33Speaker 1: it's so sensitive and it's so layered. Yeah, well, she's
- 38:36Speaker 1: lucky to have your friend like you that cares enough
- 38:38Speaker 1: to call it about this, you know. So that's really nice.
- 38:41Speaker 1: And we will keep your anonymity because you requested that,
- 38:45Speaker 1: and I mean that's really good. And all you can
- 38:47Speaker 1: do is just show up for her and be supportive,
- 38:49Speaker 1: and if she does slip up, you know, that's not
- 38:51Speaker 1: the end of the world either. It's just a little
- 38:53Speaker 1: mistake and it's a little blip, and you know, you
- 38:55Speaker 1: got to look at the bigger picture and where she's
- 38:57Speaker 1: headed in that direction and just try and help support
- 39:00Speaker 1: that movement. Definitely, And I'm definitely going to get that book, Okay. Yeah,
- 39:06Speaker 1: I'm always on a book book tour, so I love
- 39:09Speaker 1: and I love your books too, They're so great. And
- 39:13Speaker 1: you even though I know you said, like in your
- 39:15Speaker 1: podcast before, like I'm not a doctor, but you know,
- 39:18Speaker 1: just hearing someone with such experience and growth is so helpful. Well,
- 39:25Speaker 1: thank you for calling in, Brandon. Did you want to
- 39:27Speaker 1: say any fucking thing? It was very It was very
- 39:30Speaker 1: it's falling in love. It was very eloquently put. The
- 39:33Speaker 1: only thing that I would add is that I've had
- 39:35Speaker 1: to learn this the hard way. But support does not
- 39:37Speaker 1: have to be up close and personal. You can you
- 39:39Speaker 1: can support people from afar sometimes and that's what they
- 39:43Speaker 1: need as well. So I know it seems that in
- 39:45Speaker 1: those moments you need to really be there by their side,
- 39:48Speaker 1: but it can almost be overwhelming, I think to a
- 39:50Speaker 1: certain degree. So just letting them know acknowledging that you're
- 39:53Speaker 1: there and that if they need anything you are happy
- 39:56Speaker 1: to support however you can. But it doesn't have to
- 39:59Speaker 1: be consistent, ay check ins. It doesn't have to be
- 40:01Speaker 1: holding them accountable like they have to do that themselves
- 40:04Speaker 1: as well. So I think just you know, as she
- 40:06Speaker 1: kind of embarks on this and you're along for the ride,
- 40:10Speaker 1: you have to remember it's her ride, like you're just
- 40:12Speaker 1: in the car, So kind of let her lead the way,
- 40:14Speaker 1: but be there how you can. And yeah, I think
- 40:17Speaker 1: that you're doing all the right things. You're posing the
- 40:19Speaker 1: right questions. Again, like Chelsea said, she's really lucky to
- 40:22Speaker 1: have you in her corner to support, So it's just
- 40:24Speaker 1: kind of rethinking about how you're doing that. And to
- 40:28Speaker 1: Chelsea's point, the one last thing that I would say
- 40:31Speaker 1: is she can take back the purpose of this and
- 40:35Speaker 1: she can change the verbage instead of saying like I
- 40:39Speaker 1: can't have this, I don't want it, Like you don't
- 40:41Speaker 1: want to be drunk at nine am as a third
- 40:44Speaker 1: year old. So even in that way, like I have
- 40:47Speaker 1: to remind myself, I don't want fifty five popped hearts
- 40:50Speaker 1: a day. I would like them sometimes, but like I
- 40:53Speaker 1: don't want that, like I want to be better and healthier,
- 40:55Speaker 1: and she does too. So even reframing those little words
- 40:59Speaker 1: instead of I I don't want, because then it's your choice,
- 41:01Speaker 1: it's not something that's being chosen for you. Definitely, I
- 41:04Speaker 1: love that analogy of being in the car. I'm in
- 41:06Speaker 1: the car, I've got my seatbelts on and I'm just
- 41:08Speaker 1: trying not to jump out. I just I want to
- 41:11Speaker 1: be there and maybe in the back seat, like maybe
- 41:14Speaker 1: I'm just you know, in my car seat in the back. Yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 1: you have your headphones on, your not backseat driving you're
- 41:19Speaker 1: just there. Well, you do want to have an air bag,
- 41:21Speaker 1: so you might want to sit up front. Good boy,
- 41:25Speaker 1: that's a good point. Definitely, Well, thank you so much.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Let us know how it goes. Keep us posted on
- 41:30Speaker 1: her posted. I definitely will for sure and all her
- 41:34Speaker 1: her success and her struggles. Thank you guys so much.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I really appreciate it. Have a good day by you too.
- 41:40Speaker 1: By What are your thoughts on that? My thoughts on
- 41:43Speaker 1: that are that I just love all of our callers.
- 41:47Speaker 1: I can't believe how normal and cool everyone has been.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Every single time we get on the phone, I'm like
- 41:53Speaker 1: impressed by the person. Do you know how nice that is?
- 41:56Speaker 1: It's shocking, honestly because most people, all these people seem
- 41:59Speaker 1: so great it and like they would have good, you know,
- 42:01Speaker 1: social skills out in the real world, but then you
- 42:04Speaker 1: interact with people outside of the studio and that's not
- 42:07Speaker 1: the case. So this is a good time to bring
- 42:10Speaker 1: in Demi Lovato, who just came out as non binary.
- 42:13Speaker 1: So congratulations for coming out as non binary, because that
- 42:16Speaker 1: is a very difficult thing to do. Demi has a
- 42:19Speaker 1: lot of experience in talking about addiction. They have their
- 42:22Speaker 1: own personal experience with addiction. So I think they will
- 42:25Speaker 1: be able to contribute to this conversation in a way
- 42:27Speaker 1: that you are. I may not be. There's nothing more
- 42:32Speaker 1: enticing about a person endearing than authenticity in their flaws
- 42:39Speaker 1: or their errors, because you know, what you get is
- 42:42Speaker 1: what you see. Yeah, Okay, hi, Demi, Hi, but that
- 42:45Speaker 1: was so nice. You're so sweet. Well, Brandon, I'm not
- 42:49Speaker 1: really that sweet. It looks so you look so cutey.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Thank you got dressed up just for y'all. I'll look
- 42:56Speaker 1: at that. Your outfit matches your lamp. Look what you
- 42:58Speaker 1: did color coordinating. It's a very tired eye, look Sudhart.
- 43:03Speaker 1: They're busting out of their shirt, just like you do
- 43:05Speaker 1: in front of me every day. Sweetheart. I'm just trying
- 43:08Speaker 1: to thank you, thank you for noticing. Actually, well I'm gay,
- 43:11Speaker 1: but as you know, I immediately look at someone's chest
- 43:14Speaker 1: just to see what's going on. Only gay men can
- 43:17Speaker 1: say that now, or can they actually? Who fucking no,
- 43:21Speaker 1: don't know. I probably shouldn't know. You shouldn't we take
- 43:23Speaker 1: it back? I know. So you're welcome to all the
- 43:25Speaker 1: straight men. Okay, So, de mean, we needed your input
- 43:30Speaker 1: on a couple of callers we've had in so we
- 43:33Speaker 1: know these are areas that you kind of have been
- 43:35Speaker 1: really public about, so we would love your feedback. What
- 43:37Speaker 1: is the first one, sweetheart? Well, so, the first one
- 43:39Speaker 1: is someone wrote in about a friend who is slipping
- 43:43Speaker 1: off of the wagon. So I think they're just having
- 43:44Speaker 1: a little difficulty on their journey through sobriety. And in
- 43:48Speaker 1: your experience of going through sobriety a couple of times
- 43:52Speaker 1: and knowing that it's a process that there's no one
- 43:55Speaker 1: track for each person, how do you think people can
- 43:58Speaker 1: be there to support someone who is trying you stay sober.
- 44:01Speaker 1: I think the best way to handle any situation when
- 44:06Speaker 1: it comes to helping someone through an addiction is having
- 44:13Speaker 1: compassion for that person, knowing that that addiction is stemming
- 44:17Speaker 1: from a place of pain, and so therefore when that
- 44:22Speaker 1: person is acting out in their addiction, they're hurting. You know,
- 44:26Speaker 1: nobody ever acts out in an addiction out of joy,
- 44:31Speaker 1: and so I always just try to remember that, Like,
- 44:34Speaker 1: if this was a friend of mine falling off the wagon,
- 44:37Speaker 1: I would have compassion for them. I would absolutely let
- 44:41Speaker 1: them know that I was there for them. But that
- 44:44Speaker 1: it's tricky because for me, I can't be around people
- 44:49Speaker 1: that are actively using things that either I used to
- 44:53Speaker 1: like or just things that are dangerous. I don't like
- 44:56Speaker 1: watching my friends put themselves in situations that are harm
- 45:00Speaker 1: full because of I too, I've I've lost a lot
- 45:02Speaker 1: of people, and so I set a strong boundary with
- 45:06Speaker 1: those people while also telling them if you need help,
- 45:10Speaker 1: If you want help, I'm here for you. I love you,
- 45:14Speaker 1: and I'm here for you. I can't sit by and
- 45:16Speaker 1: watch this happen to you. I'm not abandoning you. I'm here,
- 45:22Speaker 1: but I can't sit by and watch. And so when
- 45:26Speaker 1: you're ready to get the help that you need, I'll
- 45:29Speaker 1: be there for you and whatever capacity you need me to,
- 45:32Speaker 1: whether that's calling the rehab and getting you set up
- 45:36Speaker 1: there or taking you to a meeting or whatever it is. Like,
- 45:40Speaker 1: I think compassion is key. What's your take on tough
- 45:43Speaker 1: love in that situation? Does it work? I think, like
- 45:46Speaker 1: you said, it's it's different for every person, and so
- 45:50Speaker 1: tough love may work on some people. It did not
- 45:53Speaker 1: work on me. Tough love to me felt like these
- 45:57Speaker 1: people are leaving me once again. Kind of fueled the fire.
- 46:01Speaker 1: And so that's why I stress compassion so much when
- 46:05Speaker 1: talking about people in their addictions because it's like they're
- 46:09Speaker 1: obviously going through something. And so when someone says I'm leaving,
- 46:13Speaker 1: I'm out of here, tough love whatever, you know, that
- 46:15Speaker 1: made me go more inward and that made me actually
- 46:17Speaker 1: act out more. And so I air on the side
- 46:21Speaker 1: of caution when telling people to have tough love. You know,
- 46:23Speaker 1: it's it's important to stay completely transparent and honest. You
- 46:27Speaker 1: can totally do that. But I think in the same
- 46:31Speaker 1: way that I don't do well with a trainer that
- 46:33Speaker 1: yells mean things that made when I'm working out like
- 46:37Speaker 1: I'm going to do better when I have a trainer
- 46:38Speaker 1: that's like, hey, you're killing it, keep going like or
- 46:43Speaker 1: I know this is hard right now, but you can
- 46:45Speaker 1: do this. You know. It's like it's stuff like that
- 46:48Speaker 1: that helps push me to the other side of the
- 46:50Speaker 1: finish line. And it might actually be the wrong thing
- 46:54Speaker 1: to say to someone, and you can't take it back,
- 46:58Speaker 1: you know. That's the tricky part about tough love. So
- 47:01Speaker 1: once you go past that line, you kind of can't
- 47:04Speaker 1: reel it in because they've already heard the toughness. Yeah, yeah,
- 47:08Speaker 1: which is my specialty. So I'm glad that we got
- 47:10Speaker 1: your point of view on that for sure, because you
- 47:13Speaker 1: speak from experience, which is better than no experience at all.
- 47:16Speaker 1: And I haven't had to get that kind of tough love,
- 47:19Speaker 1: so I yeah, So I'm glad I didn't give advice
- 47:22Speaker 1: on that and we had. It's interesting to hear because
- 47:25Speaker 1: my mom is currently going through an issue with her sobriety.
- 47:28Speaker 1: So she's an alcoholic, she was sober for a chunk
- 47:30Speaker 1: of time. She's no longer sober. She actually may be
- 47:32Speaker 1: sober right now. It's a little touch and go. But
- 47:35Speaker 1: for me, my stance has always been you have to
- 47:37Speaker 1: be sober for yourself. So as much as I wanted
- 47:39Speaker 1: to be there to support her, I didn't want her
- 47:43Speaker 1: kids to be the reason she stayed sober. So what
- 47:46Speaker 1: about family members who have someone who's going through this
- 47:48Speaker 1: and they want to be supportive but also want to
- 47:51Speaker 1: set up positioning where you have to be sober for yourself.
- 47:54Speaker 1: It has to be something you want because then there's
- 47:57Speaker 1: a pressure to those around you to help them maintain
- 48:00Speaker 1: hang their sobriety, and a responsibility like if we do something,
- 48:04Speaker 1: we could be harming your path of sobriety, right, you know.
- 48:09Speaker 1: I think that's why if you always act out of
- 48:11Speaker 1: a place of compassion. You can't go wrong. I think
- 48:14Speaker 1: that when having empathy for people, no one's going to
- 48:19Speaker 1: take that the wrong way. You know, it's it's you're
- 48:22Speaker 1: showing love, You're showing grace and mercy. I think that
- 48:26Speaker 1: having the understanding that, like we've kind of been taught
- 48:30Speaker 1: through the Book of Alcoholics Anonymous for almost a hundred
- 48:34Speaker 1: years now, that that is the only way right. And
- 48:39Speaker 1: and not to say anything bad about a A by
- 48:42Speaker 1: any means, it's just it's almost a hundred years old.
- 48:44Speaker 1: And so with the way that things progress over time,
- 48:48Speaker 1: there starts to become different solutions for different people. And
- 48:52Speaker 1: so it's it's no longer a one size fits all solution.
- 48:55Speaker 1: What if your mom decides that she doesn't want to
- 48:59Speaker 1: be sober and she's able to manage it, you know,
- 49:05Speaker 1: it just we don't know what the future holds. And
- 49:07Speaker 1: so I think being mindful of like it always has
- 49:11Speaker 1: to come from a place of that person wanting to
- 49:15Speaker 1: be sober. If they don't want to be sober, they're
- 49:17Speaker 1: not going to stay sober. They're always gonna wonder and
- 49:20Speaker 1: if and it just it's one vulnerable moment I had
- 49:23Speaker 1: but I think that's true what you're saying, Like, you know,
- 49:26Speaker 1: a A isn't for everybody. I had a friend who
- 49:27Speaker 1: got sober and he didn't do it through a he
- 49:29Speaker 1: didn't go to rehab. He was like, this sounds all.
- 49:32Speaker 1: He got ketamine treatments and he just stopped one day
- 49:35Speaker 1: and then he would drink when he was on vacation,
- 49:37Speaker 1: but not drink when he was here, and then he
- 49:39Speaker 1: just stopped and it's been like two years since he's
- 49:41Speaker 1: had a drink. And he was like, listen, a A
- 49:43Speaker 1: is not for me, Like, I'm not going to a
- 49:45Speaker 1: A meetings and I'm not going to rehab. He's like,
- 49:47Speaker 1: I understand I have a drinking problem. I understand it
- 49:49Speaker 1: got out of hand, but I'm never going to say
- 49:51Speaker 1: to myself, I'm never going to drink again. He goes,
- 49:53Speaker 1: I'm not doing that to myself. I'm just going to
- 49:55Speaker 1: say I had to get the situation under control, and
- 49:58Speaker 1: then that turned into sobriety for him. Right, And it's
- 50:01Speaker 1: just kind of like it's almost analogous to the classroom
- 50:05Speaker 1: isn't always the best place for kids to learn, right.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Everybody has different needs and desires and they respond to
- 50:11Speaker 1: different kinds of interactions with people, and I think that
- 50:14Speaker 1: applies to everything in life now so well sobriety. The
- 50:17Speaker 1: way that Demi just described it, it's kind of like
- 50:18Speaker 1: the Constitution. It's like how this was established with a
- 50:23Speaker 1: There are so many more possibilities now for people to
- 50:25Speaker 1: get their addictions under control or to find an outlet
- 50:27Speaker 1: that is not they're going to abuse. So, for instance,
- 50:31Speaker 1: I don't know what the positioning is for a A,
- 50:34Speaker 1: but my mom at the time was interested in taking
- 50:37Speaker 1: cannabis to be able to relax to night because that
- 50:40Speaker 1: was her stressor and when she would drink. And so
- 50:42Speaker 1: that's California sober, isn't it. That's California. Yeah, And so
- 50:46Speaker 1: you've mentioned that and not to me seems like a
- 50:50Speaker 1: much more realistic approach to trying to find something that
- 50:52Speaker 1: works for you, because just because you had an issue
- 50:55Speaker 1: with one substance does not mean you're going to have
- 50:56Speaker 1: an issue with another. But again, it's reconciling that there
- 51:00Speaker 1: was an issue and then trying to enter into that cautiously.
- 51:02Speaker 1: I would think, yes, absolutely, it's it's look, I I
- 51:06Speaker 1: am aware of where my substance patterns have ended me
- 51:12Speaker 1: up in the past. So it's like, even when starting
- 51:16Speaker 1: this journey of California sober, you know, I needed to
- 51:19Speaker 1: be very careful that I wanted to make sure that
- 51:22Speaker 1: I didn't start smoking too much. And there's been periods
- 51:25Speaker 1: where I've smoked probably too much, and then and some
- 51:29Speaker 1: periods where I don't smoke at all. You know, it's
- 51:31Speaker 1: just about finding that balance of what works for you,
- 51:34Speaker 1: and so I encourage you to support your mom and
- 51:38Speaker 1: finding what works best for her. Look, I always go
- 51:42Speaker 1: back to cannabis because I just I know I'm going
- 51:45Speaker 1: to wake up in the morning. I can't say the
- 51:47Speaker 1: same for other substances. And that's why I feel okay smoking. Now,
- 51:53Speaker 1: if that doesn't work for another person, then that doesn't
- 51:55Speaker 1: work for them, and that's okay. I just encourage support
- 52:00Speaker 1: finding their journey and their own path and not just
- 52:04Speaker 1: going to this dogmatic view of recovery, which is, you know,
- 52:10Speaker 1: A or the highway. Well, so that kind of answers
- 52:12Speaker 1: the next question. So we have someone call in who
- 52:14Speaker 1: has been Shane taking well, so Shane Shane is one.
- 52:18Speaker 1: We'll get to Shane, but the the other one was
- 52:20Speaker 1: the person who called in and they had been using
- 52:23Speaker 1: ketamine to try and make their relationship work. So they're
- 52:27Speaker 1: trying to find something that, again not specifically to the
- 52:30Speaker 1: relationship the way Dummy's describing it, but you have to
- 52:33Speaker 1: find something that works for you. I don't know what's
- 52:35Speaker 1: going on in the relationship that would cause them to
- 52:38Speaker 1: need to supplement its seemingly happiness with a subject. Ademine
- 52:43Speaker 1: isn't necessarily Snorting lines of ketamine is a lot different
- 52:48Speaker 1: than academine infusion, which is usually guided by a medical professional.
- 52:53Speaker 1: I am not a medical professional. I like to repeat
- 52:55Speaker 1: that consistently on this podcast because I know a lot
- 52:57Speaker 1: of people get confused because I'm trying to confuse them him.
- 53:00Speaker 1: But ketamine infusions are a very therapeutic tool for a
- 53:04Speaker 1: lot of people. So snort and kenemine is kind of
- 53:07Speaker 1: like something you would do at a party or off
- 53:10Speaker 1: somebody's ass. Much different utility, right, right, So kenemine infusions
- 53:14Speaker 1: are one thing, and those are helpful. Like that. My
- 53:16Speaker 1: friend who got sober went and got ketamine infusions in
- 53:19Speaker 1: l A a a bunch of times, and that's becoming, you know,
- 53:21Speaker 1: more mainstream than it ever has been. With micro dosing
- 53:24Speaker 1: psilocybin LSD, like there's all these great healing benefits. But
- 53:29Speaker 1: I actually let's talk about Shane though, because I can. So.
- 53:31Speaker 1: This guy called in. He says he's a stoner. He
- 53:33Speaker 1: stoned all the time, his roommates smoke all the time,
- 53:36Speaker 1: and he just feels like brain dead. And I was like,
- 53:39Speaker 1: it sounds like you need a break, like and when
- 53:41Speaker 1: I you know, I'm researching cannabis and reading about it.
- 53:44Speaker 1: I've been told that you take like a week a
- 53:47Speaker 1: month or a month a year. So I told him
- 53:50Speaker 1: to take a month off. And then I was like,
- 53:51Speaker 1: you know, and he's like, it's gonna be so hard,
- 53:53Speaker 1: and I was like, I'll do it with you. I'll
- 53:54Speaker 1: take a month off just to do it in concert
- 53:56Speaker 1: with him. But also I feel great taking a break
- 53:58Speaker 1: from smoking weed. You know, it's another exercise of your
- 54:01Speaker 1: control over yourself, like to say, okay, I can say
- 54:03Speaker 1: no to this for thirty days, it's obviously gonna do
- 54:06Speaker 1: me good. I'd love to be able to smoke a
- 54:08Speaker 1: joint in thirty days and be high as a kite again,
- 54:11Speaker 1: you know, like, you know, I get that feeling back
- 54:14Speaker 1: instead of having you know, over smoking, like I can
- 54:17Speaker 1: tend to do. Do you take breaks from weed I do.
- 54:20Speaker 1: I call them weed taxes, like a little I'm like, yeah,
- 54:26Speaker 1: I just tell my therapist. I'm like, yeah, I'm going
- 54:27Speaker 1: on a little weed talks this week. And uh, I
- 54:30Speaker 1: just I actually didn't even know that that's what you're
- 54:32Speaker 1: supposed to do. I just kind of like naturally started
- 54:36Speaker 1: doing that, because yeah, if you if you're not careful,
- 54:39Speaker 1: you can build your tolerance too quick and then all
- 54:41Speaker 1: of a sudden, your tolerance is super high, and you're
- 54:45Speaker 1: just like, it is nice to take a break, and
- 54:48Speaker 1: first of all, you feel super clearheaded, super present, and
- 54:52Speaker 1: then yeah, your tolerances jump started. So it's like I
- 54:56Speaker 1: kind of I think I used to do that with
- 54:58Speaker 1: caffeine to back in the day when I was drinking caffeine,
- 55:01Speaker 1: but like, yeah, it's just it's it's interesting. It's like
- 55:05Speaker 1: cannabis is something that like it's so gentle, and in
- 55:09Speaker 1: my experience, it may not be that way for everybody else,
- 55:12Speaker 1: but in my experience it's been so gentle to where
- 55:14Speaker 1: if I need to go without it for a period
- 55:18Speaker 1: of time, I can stop and be fine, and then
- 55:22Speaker 1: when I'm on vacation, I can smoke it during the
- 55:25Speaker 1: day and and at night and be fine. You know.
- 55:27Speaker 1: I definitely agree with the tolerance though, you know, that's
- 55:30Speaker 1: my main objective, because my tolerance gets so high that
- 55:32Speaker 1: like all of a sudden, you know, I can take
- 55:34Speaker 1: like a twenty five milligram edible and just feel like
- 55:36Speaker 1: a little dense, and you're like, okay, this is getting
- 55:39Speaker 1: carried away, you know. And plus it becomes very expensive.
- 55:42Speaker 1: I was in the habit of getting in my car
- 55:44Speaker 1: in the morning or in the you know, we'll be
- 55:46Speaker 1: on the way to the podcast and I'll have a joy,
- 55:48Speaker 1: you know, and then I'm just like, oh wait, this
- 55:50Speaker 1: is my becoming my morning routine. I don't want anything
- 55:52Speaker 1: to be my morning routine that's not purely healthy, you know.
- 55:55Speaker 1: So it's always been to change up the dynamic and
- 55:57Speaker 1: to change up your relationship to the substance or whatever
- 56:01Speaker 1: it is you're having. Noticed that if you are having
- 56:04Speaker 1: like a really hard time putting it down, maybe it's
- 56:08Speaker 1: time to reevaluate your relationship with that substance. You know.
- 56:11Speaker 1: If the weed talk is too difficult, it's like, talk
- 56:15Speaker 1: to the therapist, do what you gotta do and figure
- 56:17Speaker 1: it out, because obviously that's not working for you. Anymore
- 56:21Speaker 1: if you're needing to do it every single day. Well,
- 56:24Speaker 1: it's interesting to hear you talk about cannabis because women
- 56:27Speaker 1: are finally getting a place in the cannabis space again
- 56:30Speaker 1: where it's been predominantly male focus for so long, and
- 56:33Speaker 1: there are so many ways to take it now with edibles,
- 56:36Speaker 1: with the vapens, you you can sick them anywhere basically
- 56:40Speaker 1: so our spositories. I've seen this so for for women
- 56:44Speaker 1: who are listening to this and thinking like I would
- 56:47Speaker 1: love to introduce myself to cannabis as a way to
- 56:50Speaker 1: deal with my anxiety, to help me sleep, to to
- 56:53Speaker 1: enjoy a day out. You know, some people want to
- 56:55Speaker 1: be social but have such a hard time getting over
- 56:57Speaker 1: the hump in a social situation. What would you both
- 57:00Speaker 1: recommend for women who are interested in want to dabble
- 57:04Speaker 1: get into enter the cannabis space. I think you just
- 57:07Speaker 1: have to go to your local, like honestly, the micro dosing.
- 57:10Speaker 1: You can find things that are two and a half milligrams,
- 57:13Speaker 1: you can find mints that are one milligram, and you
- 57:15Speaker 1: have to just go with the smallest, smallest dosage and
- 57:19Speaker 1: try it and see how it affects you. Because it
- 57:21Speaker 1: is not for everybody. You know, I'm the biggest pusher
- 57:24Speaker 1: in the world. I want everyone to be stoned, but
- 57:27Speaker 1: some people just I have a couple of girlfriends that
- 57:29Speaker 1: cannot handle it, and I'm not trying to convince them
- 57:31Speaker 1: anymore because I've tried too many times and it always
- 57:33Speaker 1: ends up, you know, not being pretty. So I'm like, Okay,
- 57:36Speaker 1: I give up about you. I would say so, yes,
- 57:41Speaker 1: definitely going to your local dispensary. I think there's there's
- 57:45Speaker 1: really interesting ways that you can, like you said, and
- 57:49Speaker 1: take cannabis. So there's these drinks called can those too. Yeah,
- 57:56Speaker 1: they're like two milligrams. If someone comes over and they're
- 57:59Speaker 1: not used to smoke king, I'll give them one of
- 58:01Speaker 1: those and say. They even have like a lid that
- 58:03Speaker 1: you can save it for later of situation. Or like
- 58:08Speaker 1: dosst pens, they vibrate when you've hit a full hit
- 58:15Speaker 1: and so it measures the hits out for you. So
- 58:17Speaker 1: not just like hitting a vape pen. There's different ways,
- 58:19Speaker 1: and I encourage people to explore. That's what life is about,
- 58:24Speaker 1: is exploring and so finding what works for you. And
- 58:27Speaker 1: if that's if that's cannabis, great, If it's just CBD. Great.
- 58:31Speaker 1: If it's none of the above, great, whatever works for
- 58:35Speaker 1: you because of your history, did you have people in
- 58:38Speaker 1: your circle that are concerned that you're even smoking cannabis
- 58:41Speaker 1: or are they pretty supportive of the green um? I'd
- 58:45Speaker 1: say my my team is, for the most part, pretty supportive.
- 58:50Speaker 1: I've been on this journey since like summer of two
- 58:53Speaker 1: thousand nineteen, so it's not been I think we're I've
- 58:58Speaker 1: gained trust back and you know, they've they've seen me
- 59:03Speaker 1: be able to have a healthy relationship with cannabis. I
- 59:07Speaker 1: think that maybe my security guard, Max and maybe Scooter
- 59:12Speaker 1: are like the They kind of are like Max is
- 59:16Speaker 1: like my dad. He's like I think he'll always just
- 59:19Speaker 1: be the type of dad that like never wants to
- 59:22Speaker 1: see his daughter smoking weed. You know what I'm saying,
- 59:24Speaker 1: Like he rolls his eyes when I light up a
- 59:26Speaker 1: joint or something. But like it's it's not out of judgment.
- 59:30Speaker 1: It's just like whatever floats true vote kind of thing,
- 59:33Speaker 1: and we make jokes about it. But yeah, I think
- 59:36Speaker 1: that's I think it's out of protectiveness. And if anything,
- 59:39Speaker 1: everyone or else else around me knows how much it
- 59:42Speaker 1: works for me and how much has changed my life
- 59:44Speaker 1: because I've been able to find relief and still wake
- 59:48Speaker 1: up the next morning. And also just you know, when
- 59:52Speaker 1: I'm celebrating something like my album, you know, it's no
- 59:55Speaker 1: longer like you don't have to go to a bar
- 59:58Speaker 1: and get drunk, you and light a joint, remember the
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: entire night, you know. So it's just it's it's cool.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: People have seen how it worked for me, how it
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: works for me, and they're just supportive now. So moral
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: of the story is, with substances, there's no one size
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: fits all. With recovery, there's no one size fits all.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: But remember when we're going to go look at that house.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: A few weeks ago, I forgot that we saw a house,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: and then I looked at it online. She was very
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: stones when we went, oh my god. And then three
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: weeks later I saw the house online. I said to
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: him the link. I'm like, I want to see that house.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: He's like, sweetheart, we already saw that house, did a
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: full walk through, spent like a chunk of time in
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: this home. So that's just how you know when it's
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: time for a weed talk. Yeah, that's right, and you
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: need to get that shirt. But I'm like, right, I'm
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: blacking out on weed. I don't need that. That's why
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: I don't drink so much anymore. I mean I thought, yeah,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't realize your memory could go. But
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you know what, Yeah, that's exactly right. So I'm excited
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: about my weed talks, and I'm thank you for your
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: stamp of approval. Demi. Yes, absolutely, we talk up. Thank
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: you so much, Thanks so much for calling in. We
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: love you, Thank you, love you guys. Okay, it sounds
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: like it's time to take a break, so that's what
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: we're gonna do. You guys will be right back. Well
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: that was fun, Demi Lovato was fun. Yeah, they're a
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: good time. Yes, I like them. They are coming from
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: a place of love, and as we are, sweetheart, we
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: are coming from a place of deep love. Deep. You
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: must lead with love. You must lead with deep love. Deep.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: So important to have these conversations about drugs because as
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: things become legalized, and and as these drugs become more
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: popularized to some degree, we need to know about appropriate use,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: about responsible use, and the only way to do that
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: is to have conversations that might be a little uncomfortable.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: But I can't wait till my niees we're doing here.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: I can't wait till my niece starts to get like
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: because she's so anti drugs. I was in San Francisco
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: last weekend visiting my sister, and my niece is so
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: anti drugs, like she is so drugs everything like she
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: I mean, she knows we we are always taking edibles,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: are always out and about. Obviously we have no secrets
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: in our family, and she's just always like we always
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: try to get her to have a drink. We were like,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: come on, have a glass of champagne, and she's just
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: like nope, nope, nope. And I'm just like, you know what,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: I was anti drugs too, and when in high school
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: I was against them. I couldn't believe people who use them.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: And then I tried them. And so is it? What
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: is her stance on it? Why is she in such opposition.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: I think she's just she wants to be in control
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: of herself. So I think that's it. I think that's
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: a lot of people's reasons for not wanting to experiment
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: is that they are going to lose control. I kind
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: of like that feeling. Do you think it's But I
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: also don't feel like I lose control when I take
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: an edible or something like that, it's not a loss
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: of control. It's just you're not as I don't know,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: but for people who are Type A, it does feel
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: out of control to some degree, because that's how I feel,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I would assume, especially when I started, because I am
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: so particular and so in control in a lot of
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: ways that when I took an edible, it's like how
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: when I take a five milligram it could feel like
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: I'm taking a twenty because I'm wound so tight that
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: that level of relaxation feels very foreign, or did in
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: the beginning for me. But it was also a superiority
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: thing for me, Like I liked being able to say
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: that I'd never done drugs, and then I realized what
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: the fund is? What's the point of that, because then
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: I will have never experienced anything right, right, right, And
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: now I've done drugs and I'm much happier about it. Yeah, well,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: I mean as long as you're yeah. I mean, everyone
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: needs to just get over themselves with regard to drugs
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: like there, we really have to work hard at destigmatizing
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: all of it because it's like, especially cannabis, it's medicine
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: for so many people like I don't want anybody to
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: being denied of medicine, do you well. And it's interesting
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: because the my Midwest counterparts, my family who are still there,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: their stance is so against recreational canvas they're talking about
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: because they're all indoctrinated by government saying that it's a
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: criminalized thing. And yeah, they're all alcoholics, exactly like alcohol
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: is better than cannabis. No, fucking nay, no, especially not
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: for the blow no. I remember I gave my dog
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Chanca zan x once on a flight to Spain and he,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I know, all of this is very relatable listeners, he
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: freaked out. He freaked out, and he was heightened and
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: psycho and he was acting in ways I had never
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: seen him act before. But it was such a long flight.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I thought I was helping him, so I could just
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: put him to sleep for the flight so he wouldn't
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: be on a twelve hour flight. And it backfired. And
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: when also backfired was that I also had taken the
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: zan x, so I was sleeping and he was fucking
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: freaking out. And when I got home and I spoke
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: to my vet, I said, I don't understand what happened,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: And he said when your dog is in a heightened
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: state like what you were describing, if you give him
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: a zan X, he will stay in that heightened state.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: And I was like, well, I'm like I'm in a
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: constant state of ad agitation and when I take a Zannex,
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: I go to sleep. So I guess dogs physiology and
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: biology is different than ours. Well now we know, and
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: that's an important lesson for everyone listening. Do not give
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: your dog humans annex. No, that was an actually it
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: was his annex that I took from him. To be
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: completely honest, I looked up what that that had prescribed
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: him and I was like, oh, I like xann X.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Because you're a doctor, you knew what portions you. So
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: I gave one of myself and I give one to
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Chunk and then I had a really embarrassing flight per Chunk. Well,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: on that note, the important thing is to calibrate your
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: drug experience, because there's losing control in a fun, harmless way,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: and then there's losing control of your life, and you
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: know those things are different, and losing control of your
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: life is very very serious. As we've heard today from
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: a lot of people. It's not a fun ride. A
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: road to go down well, that you need to take
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: personal inventory of where you're at with your drug use,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: which is what you're doing now. So you're gonna take
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: a month Off'm going to take a month off of cannabis,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: and I'm going to hold you and my taking off
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: a month of edibles and smoking or just smoking your
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: throat could use it for the smoking, but you should
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: probably do a full detox. Okay, I can do that,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: no problem. Well report back. Yeah, I'm setting an example.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: I gave Shane my word and I'm not going to
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: break it. Shane. We'll see what Shane. I hope Shane
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: is able to get through the month. Probably not, but
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: I'll do it regardless because I stand by my word.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: It's science. I hope I don't get pregnant.
