- 0:11Speaker 1: We have hit boy in here. First of all, I mean,
- 0:15Speaker 1: just keep on congratulating you every time I see you.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Ship just keeps leveling up and leveling up. You see
- 0:21Speaker 1: the interviews going viral, trying trying to brod Yeah, I was.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I was actually thinking about that. I was like, I
- 0:28Speaker 1: wonder if Kendrick like show with the family or whatever.
- 0:31Speaker 1: So that's the first thing I thought. I was, Yeah,
- 0:34Speaker 1: because I was like, yeah, I wonder when the Heart
- 0:36Speaker 1: Part five came out, I was like, you know, all
- 0:39Speaker 1: the people's faces he used. I wonder if like everyone
- 0:42Speaker 1: had a heads up or just was on some real
- 0:44Speaker 1: artists shit and just threw it out. Yeah, And it
- 0:47Speaker 1: worked out because it was done with a great intention
- 0:49Speaker 1: and great you know, great artistic executed perfectly. Man. What
- 0:55Speaker 1: did you think of the Kendrick album Fire? Amazing? Yeah,
- 0:59Speaker 1: for sure? What is it like? What you know, you
- 1:03Speaker 1: obviously worked with Kendrick in the past. You've worked with
- 1:07Speaker 1: like who's who's that one artist that creative process. Who
- 1:11Speaker 1: you've been in the studio with was like just different.
- 1:14Speaker 1: That was like the most unique because you've been in
- 1:16Speaker 1: with everybody. I mean, it's like I can't say because
- 1:20Speaker 1: everybody got their own unique you know ways about him,
- 1:23Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Like working with somebody like
- 1:25Speaker 1: Big Sean, like how he always just make sure he
- 1:28Speaker 1: really dial in on every lyric, every line, Like he'll
- 1:31Speaker 1: say some shit and I'm like, oh, that's it, it's fire.
- 1:33Speaker 1: He'd be like, nah, I think I can come with
- 1:35Speaker 1: something crazier. So just even watching artists just that that
- 1:38Speaker 1: that helps me game perspective, helps me to want to
- 1:41Speaker 1: push further. You know what I'm saying. Have you taken
- 1:43Speaker 1: any of the stuff you've seen on the producer side
- 1:46Speaker 1: when you work with artists and applied it to your
- 1:48Speaker 1: ship as a rapper, any of the creative stuff I'll
- 1:51Speaker 1: be sitting next to na as well, you know what
- 1:53Speaker 1: i mean. That's what I'm saying. Engineered most of the
- 1:56Speaker 1: not songs. So I literally watched, you know, the way
- 1:59Speaker 1: he's delivered in the lyrics, the way he's writing them,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and it's like I have no choice but to be
- 2:04Speaker 1: leveling up every time we link up. So you'll applied
- 2:06Speaker 1: some of that stuff to your own one million percent.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I'll be stupid not to. So Coursa is
- 2:14Speaker 1: officially the YouTube premieres out Friday. I think there's it's
- 2:18Speaker 1: gonna be on DSP, DSP's Thursday Night. It's on YouTube
- 2:22Speaker 1: right now, It's on YouTube right now. DSPs this week
- 2:24Speaker 1: going crazy. Man, we got the merch course of all that. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: so give me cause obviously you and Dom half a
- 2:30Speaker 1: mil you guys already have a great, a great legacy.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Is this going into the direction of another joint project
- 2:37Speaker 1: or what is what's going on? Me and Dom we
- 2:40Speaker 1: just always we got a crazy, just good friendship. Just firstly,
- 2:44Speaker 1: so the music is just becoming, you know what I'm saying,
- 2:47Speaker 1: And this was a joint we did and we both agree, like, bro,
- 2:49Speaker 1: we got to drop this like it's shit different. What
- 2:52Speaker 1: are we talking on the radio. I think he's trying
- 2:54Speaker 1: to get out of that mask. Let's check it off
- 2:59Speaker 1: and he's trying to figure that out. You good, see
- 3:01Speaker 1: through you good buddy, that's bouleg We're gonna get you
- 3:07Speaker 1: some chips man. Yeah. So you and Dom, you just
- 3:12Speaker 1: are I mean you guys are always working, always working,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and of course it was just something we came up
- 3:17Speaker 1: with and it just felt right, you know what I'm saying.
- 3:19Speaker 1: We we took the song to New York. I went
- 3:22Speaker 1: to Brooklyn and uh song went out to bed Sty
- 3:25Speaker 1: and just played the joint like it wasn't even like
- 3:28Speaker 1: no force ful, like we about to record, y'all. Let's
- 3:30Speaker 1: like I want you to dance to it. They just
- 3:32Speaker 1: was dancing to that mother for You're Getting Sturdy. They
- 3:35Speaker 1: was just doing it on their own. Yeah, it was fly. Yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 1: you know, I sawry so they were doing the New York.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I don't know what that dance. You know, what's that?
- 3:41Speaker 1: What's that called that be doing? Getting sturdy? Getting start? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 1: the drill the drill wave in New York is crazy
- 3:47Speaker 1: right now. So I see you have a surf club
- 3:51Speaker 1: chain on For people who don't know that is kind
- 3:54Speaker 1: of the origins of everything. You kind of came into
- 3:58Speaker 1: the game shout out to h the whole surf club ship,
- 4:01Speaker 1: that whole movement was insane. Is this something you're gonna
- 4:04Speaker 1: be resurrecting. I mean it never went away, like surf
- 4:07Speaker 1: club that's just been at the core of everything I do.
- 4:10Speaker 1: But you know I started because it went it went
- 4:12Speaker 1: yeah to Surf Club to hsaighty seven, which is just
- 4:15Speaker 1: like I feel like HS eighty seven is like my
- 4:18Speaker 1: heart and soul of the music aspect of what I do.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Surf Club is just the overall lifestyle. That's how I
- 4:23Speaker 1: live my life. Just so some wavy ship like we've
- 4:26Speaker 1: been on that for years. So you know what I'm saying,
- 4:28Speaker 1: we I mean Surf Club, I'm about to really be
- 4:31Speaker 1: putting out you know, new music, new artists, my own music,
- 4:34Speaker 1: just like really pushing the Surf Club through the Serf Club.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So that is officially going to be like your label. Yeah,
- 4:41Speaker 1: this gang though, like everybody that's from Surf Club, they
- 4:44Speaker 1: could do what they do with the with the wave
- 4:46Speaker 1: because we all started it together. What uh would there
- 4:50Speaker 1: be any of the old AGHA eighty seven guys you
- 4:52Speaker 1: try to like I always think about k Roosevelt and
- 4:54Speaker 1: do me now and how perfect of a song that was.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And it's crazy because I feel like you were as
- 5:00Speaker 1: as crazy as HS eighty seven was. Somehow just the
- 5:03Speaker 1: timing wasn't right. Yeah, I mean, well everything was changing
- 5:07Speaker 1: with uh you know DSPs and you know, going over
- 5:10Speaker 1: from people buying music to like completely streaming, and they
- 5:13Speaker 1: were still trying to calculate how to do all that.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So we got kind of caught up in the whirlwind
- 5:17Speaker 1: of that. And I feel like not having the right infrastructure,
- 5:20Speaker 1: not having the right people on my team speaking for
- 5:23Speaker 1: me while I'm making this music, because it's hard to
- 5:26Speaker 1: make the music and have to think about the business,
- 5:28Speaker 1: to have to think about all the other aspects of everything.
- 5:31Speaker 1: And you had you had a pretty serious roster too, Like, uh,
- 5:34Speaker 1: it wasn't like you just had a couple of artists.
- 5:36Speaker 1: You had audio push camp money. I forget what was
- 5:39Speaker 1: the young lady's name be mack be Mac the queen,
- 5:43Speaker 1: you know it was k Rose. I just like kind
- 5:45Speaker 1: of just opened up, you know, the opportunities I had
- 5:48Speaker 1: opened up my House of Hit era, the House of
- 5:50Speaker 1: Hit area, just just like opening up the studio, opening
- 5:54Speaker 1: up the opportunities for everybody to just come and do
- 5:56Speaker 1: their thing. And it was a super like a real
- 6:00Speaker 1: learning curve for me, just like on how to really
- 6:02Speaker 1: move in the game. And now you kind of are
- 6:05Speaker 1: probably able to take some of those lessons you learned
- 6:07Speaker 1: and then apply him to the surf Club. How many
- 6:10Speaker 1: years later is this seven years? It was that twenty fourteen,
- 6:16Speaker 1: twenty fifteen, almost nine years, bro for real? Well, I
- 6:19Speaker 1: mean we was going well, Granted All My Life was
- 6:21Speaker 1: twenty fourteen. Yeah, so damn it. Eight that was eight years,
- 6:23Speaker 1: eight years. I remember hearing Granted All my Life at
- 6:25Speaker 1: least a year before it came out. Yeah, you used
- 6:28Speaker 1: to pull up. Yeah that's crazy. And I remember when
- 6:31Speaker 1: you told me that that was your dad rapping. I
- 6:33Speaker 1: was like, wait a minute, free big hit too man
- 6:35Speaker 1: for your pops. Man. I remember that was the wildest
- 6:38Speaker 1: shit because when he was like, hit boys my son,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I was like, wait, wait, bue, yes my pops. Yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 1: shout out to your dad man free him. Is there
- 6:47Speaker 1: going to be uh? I just want to thank you
- 6:50Speaker 1: because you are Obviously NAS has a lot to do
- 6:54Speaker 1: with it, but just in terms of kind of I
- 6:56Speaker 1: don't know what it is about your relationship with Nas,
- 6:59Speaker 1: but it is inspired him to release a high quantity
- 7:01Speaker 1: of music over the last couple of years. The fact
- 7:05Speaker 1: we got Magic just as like a bonus last year
- 7:08Speaker 1: was fucking incredible. I think Magic low Key might be
- 7:10Speaker 1: my favorite of the three albums. That's the funny thing.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And that's what's motivational for me, and I would say
- 7:15Speaker 1: him as well, is the fact that every time we
- 7:17Speaker 1: drop a project, people are like, na, this one better
- 7:19Speaker 1: than the last one. They've gotten better each time exactly.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So my thing is like, let's just keep leveling it
- 7:24Speaker 1: up every time and kind of just competing with ourselves.
- 7:27Speaker 1: We're not obviously nas is who he is, like he
- 7:29Speaker 1: seemed he's cemented in this ship and you know, legend
- 7:32Speaker 1: royalty all that, but it's like he just motivated to
- 7:35Speaker 1: make the music and it's just strictly about that, and
- 7:37Speaker 1: that's why it's just leveling up. How much of King's
- 7:40Speaker 1: Disease three is has been worked on? Man, I can't
- 7:43Speaker 1: say a percentage, man, But you guys, it's it's it's happening.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, you know he said it, don't
- 7:48Speaker 1: magic it. Yeah, I'm saying he said it. So it's
- 7:50Speaker 1: on the way. So it is on the way. It's
- 7:52Speaker 1: the way nice is it when you guys get in
- 7:54Speaker 1: for a new project, is it is there any sort
- 7:56Speaker 1: of direction or is it just such an organic vibe
- 7:58Speaker 1: that it's like whatever comes out comes out, you guys, guys,
- 8:01Speaker 1: that's basically how it is like because we we just
- 8:03Speaker 1: kept recording after KT two, and you know, it was
- 8:06Speaker 1: a moment where it was like maybe this is KTI
- 8:08Speaker 1: three and was like, nah, we got to just go
- 8:09Speaker 1: with a completely new concept and he just was knocking
- 8:12Speaker 1: him out up until the point where it was like, nah,
- 8:14Speaker 1: we got to drop some you know, two in one years.
- 8:17Speaker 1: That shit's big, bro. And it's crazy too, because like,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I know, you guys won uh you got something to say? Say?
- 8:26Speaker 1: What up? He's like, I'm straight. I was gonna say,
- 8:32Speaker 1: you guys obviously want to Grammy for Rap Album of
- 8:34Speaker 1: the Year in twenty twenty one, right, twenty twenty Yeah,
- 8:37Speaker 1: ship the whole last couple of years, everything is just stemic.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Oh man, it's crazy. But I feel like King's Disease
- 8:44Speaker 1: two was the better album of oh what exactly. I
- 8:48Speaker 1: mean that's how a lot of people. Yeah, I feel
- 8:51Speaker 1: like Magic is better than the other two exactly. So
- 8:54Speaker 1: it's like that's why you can't really call it man,
- 8:56Speaker 1: Like you gotta just just keep it pushing after you know,
- 8:59Speaker 1: the decision, even with my Producer of the Year award,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I was gonna say, twenty twenty you got you got
- 9:03Speaker 1: snubbed twenty twenty one, it came back around. You got
- 9:06Speaker 1: the nomination. That's the nomination you should have took. A
- 9:09Speaker 1: lot of people have said that, but it is what
- 9:11Speaker 1: it is. You got to keep pushing for that next year. Yeah,
- 9:13Speaker 1: what who ended up winning the year you were nominated?
- 9:16Speaker 1: Last year? Who won? What was his name be? Truth?
- 9:25Speaker 1: Jack Antonov? Right? Yeah, I mean congrats to him for shure.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I never met him or nothing, but but he ain't
- 9:31Speaker 1: on a hit boy run. To be honest, I feel
- 9:35Speaker 1: like you and Alchemist Loki have had the craziest like
- 9:37Speaker 1: underrated Well yours you're not as underrated, but I feel
- 9:40Speaker 1: like you and now have really been like nah, and
- 9:42Speaker 1: Alchemist is just pure just in terms of just putting
- 9:46Speaker 1: out shit NonStop the last few years. It's just quality. Yeah,
- 9:50Speaker 1: Like I mean he was like killing shit before I
- 9:52Speaker 1: even ever made a beat of course. Yeah, that's what's
- 9:55Speaker 1: just ill to just that's motivation for me. It's like, damn,
- 9:58Speaker 1: you could keep leveling it up. You can keep reaching
- 10:00Speaker 1: new heights and just making the ship that you want
- 10:02Speaker 1: to make. You know what, I love wash When you
- 10:05Speaker 1: guys did your verses, you and boy wanted during the pandemic.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It was one of the early ones. That was the
- 10:10Speaker 1: first one after Swizz and Timberland. That's right. They didn't
- 10:13Speaker 1: even set theirs up. They just got in the car
- 10:15Speaker 1: board during the pandemic and start playing records. Right. What
- 10:17Speaker 1: I'm saying, ours was, you know, set up. It was
- 10:20Speaker 1: people tuned in and tapped into that. It's crazy too,
- 10:23Speaker 1: because it happened kind of like pre the Grammy pre
- 10:28Speaker 1: I think King's Disease wasn't out yet right now. There
- 10:30Speaker 1: was so much I was the super underdog, big time
- 10:33Speaker 1: under the time. But I feel like during that verses
- 10:35Speaker 1: you just had to kind of remind people like, Yo,
- 10:38Speaker 1: that's why it was good. And that's what I loved
- 10:40Speaker 1: about Versus in the early days is it was giving
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know, you know, flowers to the people that don't
- 10:46Speaker 1: normally get you know, the flowers or whatever. So I
- 10:48Speaker 1: feel like that that was the aspect that was so
- 10:50Speaker 1: ill to me, and it felt really organic. There was
- 10:53Speaker 1: something about it not being as produced when it was
- 10:58Speaker 1: just like yo, we're going live and I'm in my spot,
- 11:00Speaker 1: you're in your spot. That it made it intense. I
- 11:03Speaker 1: think it made it intense, and I just think it
- 11:04Speaker 1: it introduced like a unpredictability that like once they got
- 11:09Speaker 1: it like really together, it was like, yeah, it's like
- 11:12Speaker 1: kind of watching the TV show now, Yeah for sure,
- 11:15Speaker 1: for sure. Yeah, it's super produced in high level high
- 11:17Speaker 1: There was something about like you known, my connection was
- 11:20Speaker 1: good people trying to figure out the sound, like when
- 11:23Speaker 1: Riza and Primo were trying to figure out like yo,
- 11:25Speaker 1: yo you no, no, try this, try this. It was
- 11:27Speaker 1: just something about that that was like vintage verses, Like
- 11:30Speaker 1: I didn't even know the last eight on MJG. Shit,
- 11:34Speaker 1: I didn't even know that was going on when it
- 11:36Speaker 1: was going on. I've seen people like yo, I didn't
- 11:38Speaker 1: even know it was the verses happening right now. Yeah.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I think the last verses that I was really honed
- 11:43Speaker 1: in on was the Bone Thugs one with three six
- 11:46Speaker 1: just because I'm a big Bone fan and I just
- 11:47Speaker 1: wanted to see how that went and it was an
- 11:50Speaker 1: entertaining one because Busy Bone got extremely emotional. And last
- 11:54Speaker 1: big one I remember it was the Gucci and Geezy one.
- 11:58Speaker 1: That was probably the no. Was that was that before
- 12:01Speaker 1: Jada kiss? You know what was that after? Before that
- 12:03Speaker 1: was before so maybe ye jadakiss joint I was like
- 12:05Speaker 1: the pinnacle. Yeah, I think the Kiss moment is like
- 12:08Speaker 1: the greatest versus performance ever. I think Jada it was
- 12:14Speaker 1: the raws hip hop. It's the most raw shit because
- 12:16Speaker 1: he won the verses by just being like, like that
- 12:20Speaker 1: freestyle he did was like it was like dude, like
- 12:23Speaker 1: that's just no no extras. It was the epitome of
- 12:26Speaker 1: why we love hip hop music, Like how we grew
- 12:29Speaker 1: up listening to this ship. It's like Kiss just went
- 12:32Speaker 1: up there and put on a clinic like how to perform,
- 12:34Speaker 1: how to just like fuck the hits. He had the hits,
- 12:37Speaker 1: but like just yeah, try to do this. You guys
- 12:40Speaker 1: are wrapping over your tracks over there. Shout out to
- 12:42Speaker 1: Kiss man. What I also love is how you've just
- 12:46Speaker 1: been kind of bringing a lot of worlds together sonically,
- 12:50Speaker 1: whether it's bringing Blast into the room with Nas or
- 12:54Speaker 1: having Dom Kennedy on a record with Like, there's certain
- 12:57Speaker 1: like collaborations that probably never would have happened. And from
- 13:01Speaker 1: like somebody who loves West Coast hip hop and just
- 13:03Speaker 1: loves hip hop in general, I'm like, that's that's the
- 13:07Speaker 1: hip boy sauce. Like I'm not sure domin Knos would
- 13:10Speaker 1: have worked together had they not linked don Toliver. Yeah, like,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I just I just think of it as music, you
- 13:17Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I'll really you know, categorize shit.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I'm just like, if it can, if it can sound
- 13:22Speaker 1: quality in my head, I know I can bring that
- 13:24Speaker 1: out to speakers. Yeah, one hundred percent. Who are some
- 13:27Speaker 1: of the younger artists right now? Because you do have
- 13:30Speaker 1: your ear to the street, your studios kind of become
- 13:32Speaker 1: like a it's a special place. Man. Who are some
- 13:35Speaker 1: of the younger artists right now that you're checking for
- 13:37Speaker 1: that aren't on Surf Club? And then let's shout out
- 13:39Speaker 1: the ones who maybe may or may not be on
- 13:41Speaker 1: Surf Club. Yo? What man, we gotta stop the interview
- 13:43Speaker 1: real quick to tell you about our good folks at
- 13:45Speaker 1: blue Chew. That's right, go to bluetoo dot com. Fellas
- 13:49Speaker 1: you know, sometimes you go through some stress, you go

- 13:59Speaker 1: guys goed. You could just be old as shit. If

- 15:06Speaker 1: I mean, right now, I'm playing the homie spank Nybie
- 15:09Speaker 1: he he out of the Ie he out of Hemmet.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I actually found a yeah deep in the I Yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 1: my homeboy Price from Audio Push actually killing it put
- 15:19Speaker 1: me on his music, you know what I'm saying, probably
- 15:21Speaker 1: like a few years trying a Price who just I
- 15:23Speaker 1: think it's on tour with a big criit right now.
- 15:25Speaker 1: He's doing his thing for sure. So he put me
- 15:27Speaker 1: on Spank music some years ago. And it's funny he
- 15:29Speaker 1: used to be signing me and now I'm me and
- 15:31Speaker 1: Spank be working on a lot of music together. Yo.
- 15:34Speaker 1: For people who don't know him, it is as deep,
- 15:37Speaker 1: oh that it's very deep, Like I mean, it's like
- 15:39Speaker 1: it's like breaking bad ship up right up right over there,
- 15:41Speaker 1: like close to coach. Really Yeah, some breaking bad shit
- 15:44Speaker 1: going on in him for sure. Yeah damn. So it's
- 15:48Speaker 1: it's it's that's someone you're working with. That's somebody I'm
- 15:50Speaker 1: working with, somebody I've just been building making music with
- 15:53Speaker 1: and I don't know exactly where it's gonna go, but
- 15:55Speaker 1: we've just been trying to figure it out how long
- 15:59Speaker 1: Because somebody like I feel like you and Blast have
- 16:02Speaker 1: kind of similar parallels in terms of like just you
- 16:05Speaker 1: guys have been around for a long time. Now Blast
- 16:07Speaker 1: finally got his flowers recently. But did you ever know Blast,
- 16:11Speaker 1: Like back in the day when he was producing, he
- 16:13Speaker 1: was in a group. He used to be in a group.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Forgot the name of the group, but I know the
- 16:17Speaker 1: homegirl Jizzle first introduced me to Blast. She brought him
- 16:20Speaker 1: to my studio and he was playing joints from his group,
- 16:24Speaker 1: I believe at the time, and she was telling me
- 16:25Speaker 1: how he kind of was like creative directing his own shit,
- 16:28Speaker 1: so he always had the vision. That's one thing I
- 16:31Speaker 1: realized looking back, you know, watching Travis Scott go from
- 16:34Speaker 1: literally zero to where he is now, watching Frank Ocean
- 16:37Speaker 1: not even be an artist. He was writing songs to
- 16:39Speaker 1: my beats, you know what I'm saying, not even just
- 16:41Speaker 1: to sell them to other people. Just watching these people
- 16:44Speaker 1: like they also had a vision for themselves early, Like Travis,
- 16:48Speaker 1: he knew the type of videos he wanted to make.
- 16:50Speaker 1: He knew how he wanted to dress, how he wanted
- 16:52Speaker 1: his hair. I remember seeing Travis opened up for Casey
- 16:55Speaker 1: Veggies back in the day, like twenty ten, eleven, twelve,
- 16:58Speaker 1: I don't remember, I remember what year was. Yeah, it's crazy.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And then I didn't know so Frank. You knew Frank
- 17:03Speaker 1: Ocean prior to him actually decided to become an artist.
- 17:05Speaker 1: One of his first placements ever was this song that
- 17:08Speaker 1: he wrote on a beat that me and Chasing Cash did.
- 17:10Speaker 1: It was a song for Brandy that was on one
- 17:12Speaker 1: of her albums, and he wrote the songs Oh Ship,
- 17:15Speaker 1: It's chasing called first in Love, It's Chasing Cash. Going
- 17:19Speaker 1: to be involved in the obviously og Surf Club member
- 17:21Speaker 1: is he like? He shot me the logo that I
- 17:24Speaker 1: made my chain out of, and we're using that shout
- 17:26Speaker 1: out hit to his clothing line too. I forget what fire? Yeah, crazy,
- 17:30Speaker 1: he'd be getting love shout out to the New Orleans
- 17:33Speaker 1: legend man million damn. That's it's crazy how much history
- 17:37Speaker 1: you've been a part of them? Man for sure. I
- 17:39Speaker 1: mean even like said Drake Repens Serf Club back in
- 17:41Speaker 1: the day. You go listen to his A Milli freestyle,
- 17:44Speaker 1: he shouted out Serf Club. Go listen to nine am
- 17:47Speaker 1: in Dallas. He's shouting out Serf Club in Chase just
- 17:49Speaker 1: like this. It's real deep rooted. So you know what
- 17:52Speaker 1: I'm saying. When we when we pop out just on
- 17:54Speaker 1: some shit people just got to know it's history to this.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Can you give me what is your best story? Because
- 18:01Speaker 1: I'm real tight with you know, in Phoenix we got
- 18:05Speaker 1: a legend to us and he is a legend. Shout
- 18:07Speaker 1: out my brother Lifted, who produced Mercy. We used to
- 18:11Speaker 1: be around each other a lot out in Hawaiian, right,
- 18:13Speaker 1: so he would tell me some of these stories about
- 18:14Speaker 1: Hawaii or even like some of these hotel sessions up
- 18:18Speaker 1: in like some hotel suites out in London. Yeah, in London, Yeah,
- 18:22Speaker 1: like yeah, I just flew in and Kanye had the
- 18:24Speaker 1: studio set up in a hotel suite. I remember we
- 18:27Speaker 1: was all in there and me, Lifted, pushed. It was
- 18:29Speaker 1: pretty much the whole roster of good music. And they
- 18:32Speaker 1: played the Mercy beat and Sean was literally sitting on
- 18:36Speaker 1: the floor everybody around him, and he just like recording
- 18:39Speaker 1: his verse like vibe and shit was crazy. Kanye was
- 18:41Speaker 1: like kind of coaching him like it was a moment. Wow.
- 18:44Speaker 1: So he's just recording it in the room, just sitting
- 18:47Speaker 1: on the floor holding the mic and on the floor
- 18:49Speaker 1: like just going over his parts. That's crazy. There was
- 18:53Speaker 1: another song that I may or may not have heard
- 18:56Speaker 1: a snippet of that Never Has seen the light of
- 18:58Speaker 1: Day that was similar to Mercy. Now. I know they
- 19:01Speaker 1: put out a Mercy Part two that wasn't crazy, But
- 19:04Speaker 1: there was another record that I think was supposed to
- 19:06Speaker 1: be what was the other Cruel Summer is the one
- 19:08Speaker 1: we got, and they were supposed to be Cool Winter,
- 19:10Speaker 1: Full Winter. Yeah, I mean I still got a bunch
- 19:13Speaker 1: of beats in my zips that say Cruel Winter ideas,
- 19:17Speaker 1: Like I was presenting ideas for Cruel Winter because I
- 19:19Speaker 1: had three or four songs on Cruel Summer. That's crazy.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Did you hear any of the Cruel Winter shit? We
- 19:27Speaker 1: just I mean probably probably stuff that could have been
- 19:30Speaker 1: on there. Hey man, you got a new dinosaur match.
- 19:33Speaker 1: You gotta let them. If Drastic Park comes out on Friday,
- 19:35Speaker 1: right right right, you're gonna go see it. Jurassic Part
- 19:39Speaker 1: probably How dope was it because I know that there
- 19:43Speaker 1: was like a I don't know, like a weird energy
- 19:47Speaker 1: between you and ya, and then it was dope to
- 19:49Speaker 1: see you guys kind of get back together around the
- 19:53Speaker 1: time that the Donda Kings King's disease shit was happening,
- 19:57Speaker 1: really like linking up with game like linked up with
- 20:00Speaker 1: him top of January and we just start cutting. After
- 20:04Speaker 1: we after like three days, we probably had like eleven
- 20:06Speaker 1: twelve joints, and there was one joint in particular. I
- 20:09Speaker 1: was like, Yo, you need to have Yay pull up
- 20:11Speaker 1: the chilice so we can get him on this joint.
- 20:14Speaker 1: We end up playing a bunch of stuff and easy
- 20:17Speaker 1: was one of the ideas that game had already had.
- 20:19Speaker 1: And as soon as Kanye had heard the Easy party,
- 20:24Speaker 1: tapped me like, Yo, this like this the one basically
- 20:27Speaker 1: and how he ended up hopping on it. That was
- 20:29Speaker 1: something that him and the homie Duke. Duke is fire
- 20:32Speaker 1: Duke crazy. You know what I'm saying, shout out of
- 20:34Speaker 1: Ohio to homies Cleveland. Yeah, he also Duke could also
- 20:40Speaker 1: be he's also security slash producer as a mountain of
- 20:43Speaker 1: a man. I've been doing Duke for a minute. Yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 1: he's a He's an incredible producer. So what's up, man?
- 20:50Speaker 1: We got something to say? Say? How old are you?
- 20:55Speaker 1: Do you know? You know it's okay? Kids shy man.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I kid was shy. He was up until he was
- 21:02Speaker 1: like six. Yeah, these game sessions were crazy because I
- 21:06Speaker 1: remember going to listen to like he invited me to
- 21:10Speaker 1: the studio, and it was you know, we know how
- 21:14Speaker 1: studio sessions are, and they're not like how people think
- 21:17Speaker 1: they are. Like you know, if you tell your girl
- 21:20Speaker 1: you're going to the studio and she doesn't know better,
- 21:21Speaker 1: she's gonna think there's a bunch of hoes and a
- 21:23Speaker 1: bunch of bullshit going on, and it's not like that. Well,
- 21:26Speaker 1: these sessions were definitely like that. There are they are
- 21:29Speaker 1: one rapper sessions. It was some real vintage I call
- 21:33Speaker 1: it club game. It was club ship, so it's a
- 21:35Speaker 1: whole bottles, it's a bars around. But the crazy thing
- 21:40Speaker 1: is is he's in there knocking out four or five
- 21:41Speaker 1: songs a night. Man, he's in there focus no matter
- 21:44Speaker 1: what's going on. Ever have one hundred people in my
- 21:46Speaker 1: session and get all this done. So I mean applaud
- 21:49Speaker 1: to him, and it's that Nigga's crazy. How many beats
- 21:52Speaker 1: do you have on the dramatic project that's coming out
- 21:55Speaker 1: on the Seventeen't know, because I know they're trying to
- 21:57Speaker 1: clear samples and I don't know what's going to clear.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Was not we we use a bunch of samples, so
- 22:01Speaker 1: we're gonna see was that like, uh, you you and Game.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Did you guys ever work together previously? Yeah? I worked
- 22:08Speaker 1: on the Red album. Okay, yeah, I did some ship
- 22:10Speaker 1: on there. So we always was tapped in and we
- 22:13Speaker 1: we we had other joints, but just nothing that ever
- 22:15Speaker 1: came out. And then uh, we just tapped in Top
- 22:18Speaker 1: of the Year right after Magic came out. It was
- 22:20Speaker 1: just an energy in the air. So he pulled up
- 22:23Speaker 1: and at first it was just like us just in
- 22:25Speaker 1: the stool for you know, three four days, and we
- 22:28Speaker 1: knocked out a bunch of stuff. And after that he
- 22:30Speaker 1: got inspired and he was like, man, I'm about to
- 22:32Speaker 1: start booking my own room and he just turned it
- 22:34Speaker 1: into club. Yeah, he booked that room across from me. Yeah,
- 22:37Speaker 1: that ship's crazy. You want some chips? You want some chips? Man?
- 22:42Speaker 1: You want a I have two phones. You want to
- 22:43Speaker 1: play on one of them? You want to watch YouTube?
- 22:50Speaker 1: You want to what kind of kid ship to have
- 22:52Speaker 1: on my phone? This? This is the good phone. So
- 22:54Speaker 1: it ain't getting crazy on him. You wanna you wanna?
- 22:57Speaker 1: You want to play game? He's like, what what the fuck? Man?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Who was this white man? Yeah? No, it was I
- 23:08Speaker 1: feel like because a game had played me some shit.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Probably like late last year. This is before he started
- 23:12Speaker 1: working at Chalice, and he had like what I guess
- 23:15Speaker 1: he considered his album. Some of it was dope, but
- 23:20Speaker 1: then the ship that he was working on at Chalice
- 23:22Speaker 1: was just crazy. It was like a whole new energy.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I can't even tell you how many songs he got
- 23:28Speaker 1: because I know just between me and him, we got
- 23:30Speaker 1: about thirty something songs. So I'm like, he didn't have
- 23:32Speaker 1: a hundred producers and he must have two or three
- 23:35Speaker 1: hundred songs, Like, yeah, really go like that. So once
- 23:38Speaker 1: Kanye pulled up to cut here, because we all saw
- 23:40Speaker 1: the footage of him at the studio, was that like
- 23:42Speaker 1: where you guys kind of really had like a moment
- 23:45Speaker 1: to kind of move past whatever energy had been. I mean, yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 1: at least for that moment, for sure, it was dope.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Like I was able to at the you know, we
- 23:54Speaker 1: was in game room. I was like, bro, you got
- 23:56Speaker 1: to come into my room and just bless the energy,
- 23:58Speaker 1: like you know, Nipsey been in there, being there so
- 24:01Speaker 1: many people, I'm like, I gotta have you pull up.
- 24:03Speaker 1: And he pulled up. I was able to play him
- 24:05Speaker 1: a couple of beats and we was vibing but we
- 24:07Speaker 1: haven't connected on anything else yet. Was this prior or
- 24:10Speaker 1: after the random drink Champs interview happened? This was before
- 24:14Speaker 1: because then that interview happened in Sean's like, I was
- 24:17Speaker 1: just with this dude, like, you know how that went
- 24:19Speaker 1: down out, it's crazy, You're gonna be able to edit
- 24:21Speaker 1: all this right? So yeah, that was the That was
- 24:26Speaker 1: the funny part for me, because how that thing went
- 24:29Speaker 1: down was I reached out to somebody that you know,
- 24:31Speaker 1: Kanye was rocking with. This was around maybe maybe October,
- 24:38Speaker 1: and I was like, yo, me and Sean got this
- 24:40Speaker 1: song called what a Life? We drop in and I
- 24:42Speaker 1: want to see if Yay hop on the remix. So
- 24:44Speaker 1: his people was like, yo, you know I reached out
- 24:47Speaker 1: to him. Yay is open to the idea, but he
- 24:49Speaker 1: wants to chop it with you and Sean. Come to
- 24:51Speaker 1: Sunday Service. So we pull up the Sunday Service. It's
- 24:54Speaker 1: all love. We chopping it. I'm telling him and Sean like, yo,
- 24:57Speaker 1: we need to do Click part two. It's a vibe
- 25:00Speaker 1: whatever whatever. Yeah, and then you know a few days
- 25:04Speaker 1: later the joint come out and I was just confused
- 25:06Speaker 1: as to how like he had already recorded the Drink Champs,
- 25:09Speaker 1: but we are in his face and he's not saying nothing.
- 25:12Speaker 1: So it's just like that just threw me off. Yeah.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Sometimes the Drink Champs, you know, I know, sometimes they'll
- 25:17Speaker 1: hold interviews for like a month. I figured that's what happened.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I'm like, this had to have been recorded like a
- 25:22Speaker 1: few weeks ago or something. I mean, I think it
- 25:24Speaker 1: was just like recorders like some days or like a
- 25:26Speaker 1: week prior to you guys actually thinking of So that
- 25:30Speaker 1: just kind of hit you out, like what the fuck?
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, so it's like, you know, but it's
- 25:33Speaker 1: all love though. Man. Yes, they chopped it, they talked
- 25:36Speaker 1: it out. That's good. Something that you've because whenever I
- 25:40Speaker 1: have producers on, I want some chips. You want some chips? Bro? Yeah?
- 25:46Speaker 1: Oh god. Something that I just talked to the south
- 25:51Speaker 1: Side about. We just talked to hit Make about. I
- 25:53Speaker 1: try to like give game to up and coming songwriters producers,
- 25:58Speaker 1: And something that you've been vocal about is your your
- 26:02Speaker 1: pub deal. And it is a mistake that a lot
- 26:05Speaker 1: of artists make, not even producers, just writers signing a
- 26:12Speaker 1: pub deal too early and getting taken advantage of. I mean,
- 26:16Speaker 1: I would say, you know, I've spoken on this in
- 26:18Speaker 1: a bunch of interviews, and I don't want to get
- 26:20Speaker 1: too deep right now, but I would just say that
- 26:22Speaker 1: any deal, period, make sure it's an exit plan. Make
- 26:25Speaker 1: sure that they can't you know. It's like my pop's
- 26:27Speaker 1: been in prison, in the system since he was like
- 26:30Speaker 1: nineteen years old. He's like fifty something now. So it's
- 26:32Speaker 1: like they'll railroad you and they'll find loopoh's and ways
- 26:35Speaker 1: to just keep you down, keep you in. And I
- 26:37Speaker 1: feel like I'm literally going through that, like no matter
- 26:39Speaker 1: how much money I earn or how much success I have,
- 26:43Speaker 1: they don't really have to honor it because of the
- 26:45Speaker 1: way to the protract was written. Yeah, so it's like,
- 26:48Speaker 1: make sure you got an exit plan. That's that's the most.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Have you tried buying yourself out of the deal. They
- 26:52Speaker 1: won't even let it happens. That's that deep. It's like
- 26:55Speaker 1: it's sticky. Just keep airing them out, bro. That's that's
- 26:59Speaker 1: why I gotta go crazy. That's fucking wild. Because you
- 27:02Speaker 1: say you've been in it since you were nineteen, Yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 1: I'll just turned thirty five. I've been in this is
- 27:06Speaker 1: all the nineteen sixteen years that's so crazy. I don't
- 27:11Speaker 1: know if like it's acceptable anymore to offer those kind
- 27:16Speaker 1: of deals anymore, because I know that they're not well
- 27:19Speaker 1: from what I hear, like they've gotten rid of the
- 27:21Speaker 1: was it the nbrcs, because that's that minimum delivery the
- 27:24Speaker 1: delivery requirement I think where they'll tell you ten compositions. Yeah,
- 27:31Speaker 1: but that's that's that's a thousand points. So if you
- 27:34Speaker 1: do a beat, what would you say, hit Like, if
- 27:36Speaker 1: you do a beat, it's like a typical amount of
- 27:40Speaker 1: points you would get on a record, like not even
- 27:42Speaker 1: you specifically, just in general your experience in the music industry,
- 27:45Speaker 1: if you make the beat, mean, if you got a
- 27:48Speaker 1: good team and you got that leverage, I would say
- 27:50Speaker 1: four maybe five points sometimes per record, per song. Yeah
- 27:55Speaker 1: and so yeah, so if you have a thousand points,
- 27:58Speaker 1: you have to recoup through the maths a lot. So
- 28:01Speaker 1: how about this if somebody because you know a lot
- 28:04Speaker 1: of times somebody like yourself established producer will reach out
- 28:09Speaker 1: and maybe get a loop pack from somebody. And I'm
- 28:11Speaker 1: not saying you do that, but I mean in general,
- 28:13Speaker 1: like you know, sometimes we do a nice way to
- 28:16Speaker 1: get on. If you're an up and cooming artist is
- 28:18Speaker 1: to send loops out, Like if you're upcoming producer, if
- 28:23Speaker 1: someone uses your loop, is that something that? What? What?
- 28:27Speaker 1: What is? Ideally? What do you? Did you even get
- 28:29Speaker 1: cut in on the pub at that point? I mean yeah,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I mean it just depends on what y'all work out, right,
- 28:35Speaker 1: or if they have a set thing like oh, this
- 28:37Speaker 1: is this is, this is these are my terms or whatever.
- 28:40Speaker 1: But most of the times, it's like, you know, it
- 28:42Speaker 1: depends on how much they do. Like I'm a super
- 28:44Speaker 1: fair guy. A lot of people, like even my counselor
- 28:47Speaker 1: been like yo, you like you're a super fair person.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Like it's people that take people's whole beats and don't
- 28:52Speaker 1: even give them and just throw the tag on it.
- 28:53Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like it's yeah, no, it's crazy.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I mean it's happened a lot. I mean through out
- 29:00Speaker 1: hip hop, that's happened for sure, Like, no, I made
- 29:03Speaker 1: that beat, but your tags on. I've seen interviews about
- 29:05Speaker 1: legendary producers that I that I, you know, literally look
- 29:09Speaker 1: up to. It's like, nah, this person really made that beat.
- 29:12Speaker 1: So it's like, you know, yeah, hit Maker just shared
- 29:14Speaker 1: a story about a big producer that just took the
- 29:18Speaker 1: whole song that he brought to them and then got
- 29:21Speaker 1: an ask cap a word for it. And he was
- 29:23Speaker 1: sitting there collecting his own ass cap word and he's like,
- 29:25Speaker 1: the fuck man, crazy man, Let's get past this point
- 29:29Speaker 1: because I'll start getting deep. I bet it because I
- 29:32Speaker 1: thought that nigga do that. I thought hit Maker it
- 29:34Speaker 1: take niggas beats and songs like. I don't know him,
- 29:38Speaker 1: so I asked him that I kind of had talked
- 29:40Speaker 1: to him about and he said, you know, yeah, I
- 29:44Speaker 1: bring people together and they get their credit, they get
- 29:47Speaker 1: their pub I look at him as like a like
- 29:49Speaker 1: a calde, like an executive, like may not be actually
- 29:53Speaker 1: making the music, but he knows how to point out
- 29:55Speaker 1: the right one. You know what he was saying, He's like,
- 29:57Speaker 1: I cut everybody in on. I have a song deal
- 29:59Speaker 1: with Atlantic and somebody. He said, I have half of
- 30:01Speaker 1: the money, smart business. Half of that money that's allocated
- 30:03Speaker 1: to me. I set aside half of it for the
- 30:07Speaker 1: co producers, for the co writers, and they get all
- 30:10Speaker 1: their credit. Business man, for sure, I respect him on
- 30:12Speaker 1: the business and for sure, for sure, I mean you're
- 30:15Speaker 1: in there with the I mean I've seen you're a
- 30:17Speaker 1: fucking monster. How how like I was gonna say, like,
- 30:21Speaker 1: how much has your beat making process changed over the years,
- 30:24Speaker 1: because there's been so I mean, some people started on
- 30:26Speaker 1: fruity loops and then they've evolved to pro tools or
- 30:29Speaker 1: to reason or like what is like your current beat
- 30:33Speaker 1: making go to setup? What do you? What do you?
- 30:36Speaker 1: What are you cooking on? I've been on FL Studios
- 30:38Speaker 1: since two thousand and three, bro, almost twenty years. Still,
- 30:41Speaker 1: I mean I've messed around with able to logic. Yeah,
- 30:44Speaker 1: I use pro tools, I record and sometimes arrange one
- 30:47Speaker 1: beats in there. But I'm FL Studio Bro. I'm just
- 30:50Speaker 1: quick on it and shout out to a ninth wonder
- 30:54Speaker 1: who was the first guy was really put on really
- 30:58Speaker 1: heard about somebody super professional make using FL. Yeah, so
- 31:02Speaker 1: it's still fruity loops. So you gotta have a PC? Yeah? Well,
- 31:05Speaker 1: I mean no, they got it on Mac now do that.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I didn't know. I know back in the day you
- 31:08Speaker 1: had to like partition your hard drive. That's what I
- 31:10Speaker 1: used to do. Yeah, I use a PC though that's fire,
- 31:13Speaker 1: So you still use a PC. I use the Asis.
- 31:16Speaker 1: So you got your you got your Mac. I'm sure
- 31:18Speaker 1: everyone's got a MacBook for other ship and then you
- 31:20Speaker 1: got your I just got the mac the computer to
- 31:23Speaker 1: just put my pro tool stuff on. I don't even
- 31:25Speaker 1: have a MacBook no more. That was that was just
- 31:27Speaker 1: what's you know, he's just a kid hanging out. He's
- 31:31Speaker 1: he don't know. He was the radio anything now anything
- 31:37Speaker 1: you want to add age. Tell him how old you are,
- 31:40Speaker 1: real quick, say it on the microphone. How old are you, bron?
- 31:46Speaker 1: How old is he too? Too? Yeah, it's just say
- 31:49Speaker 1: two to Chuck de deuce man, how many kids you have? Kid?
- 31:56Speaker 1: It's only one? One of one? See three man ce three?
- 32:00Speaker 1: What is the Uh? He's a third? So your dad's
- 32:04Speaker 1: the first, you're the second, he's the third. That's fire.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Do you get to take him to go visit grandpa?
- 32:09Speaker 1: Like when he's locked up? He was born like literally
- 32:12Speaker 1: a day before we went into lockdown in La so
- 32:14Speaker 1: he it was like, he's a COVID baby, you know
- 32:16Speaker 1: what I'm saying. COVID baby. You know you can't have
- 32:19Speaker 1: really no visits in prisons during the COVID shit. So yeah,
- 32:22Speaker 1: we don't work it out soon though. Hey, so nowadays,
- 32:27Speaker 1: what I like about we're talking you have a team
- 32:31Speaker 1: around you. You You got a guy like jan Sport j
- 32:33Speaker 1: who's been around for a long time as an artist too.
- 32:36Speaker 1: I remember seeing his shit on Two Dope Boys back
- 32:38Speaker 1: in the day. Six man, how important is it to
- 32:43Speaker 1: kind of like make sure you also surround yourself or
- 32:46Speaker 1: with just like other inspiring producers, guys who bring something
- 32:51Speaker 1: to the table, you know what I mean. I mean
- 32:53Speaker 1: Janz Sport legendary, like he chopped samples like you know,
- 32:57Speaker 1: bar None, Like he's one of the craziest doing that,
- 33:00Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And that's just something that
- 33:02Speaker 1: inspired me, Like, I definitely got to keep myself surrounded with,
- 33:05Speaker 1: you know, people that are just you know, in their
- 33:08Speaker 1: own land and just doing what they do. Yeah, how
- 33:13Speaker 1: because you know with with for people who don't know
- 33:15Speaker 1: you have a studio, Chalice that you've had for four years.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Four years in August, that's where you did Racks in
- 33:21Speaker 1: the middle, right, Racks in the middle. I did a
- 33:24Speaker 1: bunch of stuff, all of the one KT too magic. Yeah,
- 33:29Speaker 1: it's it's a special place, man. Crazy. We did Burden
- 33:33Speaker 1: the Proof at Childie too. I think I was I
- 33:35Speaker 1: was there for that. Yeah, I was there for some
- 33:37Speaker 1: of that. Chick Conway was there that it's crazy west Side.
- 33:41Speaker 1: It was hey and unofficially the start of the album.
- 33:45Speaker 1: We're never gonna get the Freddie Gibbs Benny album. That's
- 33:47Speaker 1: probably never coming out. I hope it does. Man. If not,
- 33:50Speaker 1: we will leak. We're gonna well you already kind of
- 33:53Speaker 1: leaked it. Well. I put it on my I g
- 33:54Speaker 1: one day. I was just playing it. I'm like, this
- 33:56Speaker 1: ship too hard. People got to hear this. Leaked it
- 33:59Speaker 1: on my you took it down, now I'll take it down.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Did anybody hit you about it? I did get hit
- 34:03Speaker 1: up for show. It wasn't even like take it down.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I just was like, I'm gonna just take it. Hit
- 34:08Speaker 1: you up about it. A couple of people, couple people
- 34:11Speaker 1: from both sides. Yeah, like, yoh, what the fuck? I
- 34:14Speaker 1: thought about doing the same thing. I'm glad to was
- 34:16Speaker 1: you though, because you made it. I was like I
- 34:17Speaker 1: can't do this and I was just like this beat,
- 34:19Speaker 1: crazy song. It's insane, nick loving. Hopefully it comes out
- 34:23Speaker 1: one day. Man, maybe if you do, like a car
- 34:25Speaker 1: it's on YouTube and all that show. Oh is it?
- 34:27Speaker 1: I mean just like a leaked Oh just your version
- 34:29Speaker 1: that you put you put up, not the whole thing
- 34:31Speaker 1: in and maybe if you ever put out like a
- 34:35Speaker 1: producer compilation, well that's what's coming next. Like I'm about
- 34:38Speaker 1: to I'm actually starting to drop music this summer. I'm
- 34:40Speaker 1: gonna drop my first joint probably August. It's gonna be
- 34:43Speaker 1: just like my beats with different artists without you rapping.
- 34:47Speaker 1: And I'm also dropping a rap shit at the same time,
- 34:49Speaker 1: so doubling old fledge. Yeah. How how like I feel
- 34:52Speaker 1: like for somehow over the last five or six years,
- 34:57Speaker 1: like you're still kind of been flying under the radar
- 35:00Speaker 1: for some of the projects you put out as a rapper.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Do you feel like finally that tied is starting to
- 35:05Speaker 1: turn in terms of like you're getting a lot more
- 35:08Speaker 1: respect as an MC because you put out some great,
- 35:11Speaker 1: great shit, not even like domb shit aside, like half
- 35:14Speaker 1: a milshit aside, like even the solo shit you were
- 35:16Speaker 1: putting out. Nah. I mean, I just feel like I
- 35:18Speaker 1: just feel it on a personal level, you know. And
- 35:20Speaker 1: then when I play the music, I show the new
- 35:22Speaker 1: videos I'm making, I just see the reaction, you know
- 35:25Speaker 1: what I'm saying, a natural, organic reaction to the people
- 35:27Speaker 1: that I played it for. I'm like Yeah, I definitely
- 35:29Speaker 1: can see the growth. I can see what's up. I
- 35:32Speaker 1: can see how much just being around these great artists
- 35:35Speaker 1: like Big Sean like Nas and what dude, you don't
- 35:38Speaker 1: want me to talk, yo, you want to put this on?
- 35:44Speaker 1: Let me see dinosaur mode. There you go, Oh he's outside. Okay. Yeah,
- 35:51Speaker 1: just like seeing my own growth. Man, that's been super
- 35:53Speaker 1: inspired to me beyond just like if other people are
- 35:56Speaker 1: hearing it as well. It's just like, damn, like I
- 35:59Speaker 1: can I could just feel growth. Yeah, with this new
- 36:02Speaker 1: ship that's coming out obviously Corsa, is there going to
- 36:07Speaker 1: be what is is this the lead into like another project,
- 36:11Speaker 1: a full project or is this just kind of like
- 36:13Speaker 1: most definitely it's it's okay man, we're here. People see
- 36:17Speaker 1: it on YouTube. There's a we have a two year
- 36:19Speaker 1: old with a toy where it happens. Damn. I was saying,
- 36:25Speaker 1: like with Coursa, like what is this leading into? Like
- 36:28Speaker 1: like Coursa, that's some It's gonna either end up on
- 36:32Speaker 1: a half a mile project or a solo hit board
- 36:34Speaker 1: or whatever the case is. We're just making music at
- 36:36Speaker 1: this point and I just want to keep dropping, keep
- 36:38Speaker 1: the momentum up. Yeah. One hundred percent and that I
- 36:41Speaker 1: know you recently left rock Nation right on a management
- 36:45Speaker 1: on the management side, what what's something that you had
- 36:48Speaker 1: kind of learned on? Like obviously rock Nation is a
- 36:52Speaker 1: prestigious brand. Respects to them, Shout out to Hoe, Shout
- 36:56Speaker 1: out to everybody over there, everybody that locked in with me.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Were you able to like kind of like learn anything
- 37:01Speaker 1: of your time over there on the management side? Just
- 37:02Speaker 1: getting managed by those guys for sure, And just like
- 37:05Speaker 1: on a personal level, just the things that I see
- 37:08Speaker 1: for myself and the things that I want for myself,
- 37:10Speaker 1: they have to align all across the board. And it's
- 37:13Speaker 1: like if it's any disconnection, it's gonna be tough. You
- 37:16Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I don't want to get into
- 37:17Speaker 1: the dtails of you know nothing, but it's all love
- 37:20Speaker 1: to the that's fire. What is uh? You know we've
- 37:23Speaker 1: seen a lot of producers do different business moves outside
- 37:26Speaker 1: of music. Are you working on anything that is not
- 37:28Speaker 1: necessarily directly music related? I got to hit boyog with
- 37:32Speaker 1: the homies, Illi canis you know what I'm saying? You
- 37:34Speaker 1: got some weed? I got it in some stores right now,
- 37:37Speaker 1: some lemonades and some cookie stores and about to keep
- 37:40Speaker 1: pushing it, you know, do you actually like pull up
- 37:42Speaker 1: and like go to the grow and like figure out
- 37:44Speaker 1: exactly what your string is gonna be been to to
- 37:47Speaker 1: grow plenty of times. And then sometimes they'll bring like
- 37:50Speaker 1: even their lab person to the studio just oh, I've
- 37:52Speaker 1: been there and there's been pounds and pounds of weed
- 37:54Speaker 1: at your stud I don't even know if it's that guy,
- 37:56Speaker 1: but there's just yeah. So they'll bring like, you know,
- 37:58Speaker 1: their whole team to the stool just about with me
- 38:00Speaker 1: and bring me different strains to you know, piece together
- 38:03Speaker 1: that we can you know, but you're O g guy,
- 38:06Speaker 1: hit boy OG is the overall brand. Waiting Game is
- 38:09Speaker 1: the strains. So this is like the first one. Waiting
- 38:12Speaker 1: Game is not the most heavy og you know smoke,
- 38:15Speaker 1: but it's a good smoke at the same time. But
- 38:17Speaker 1: the next one is we're gonna definitely hit him with
- 38:19Speaker 1: some ogs. I remember being there one night and there
- 38:23Speaker 1: was like a jeweler who was trying to rip everybody off.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Big Sean was there. I forget who it was, but
- 38:30Speaker 1: there was like a jeweler who like pulled And it's
- 38:32Speaker 1: funny because I've seen that actually happen a bunch of
- 38:34Speaker 1: times we're jewelery. I mean, this was the jeweler that
- 38:38Speaker 1: you know the little Baby when Little Baby was like
- 38:40Speaker 1: somebody told me a fake watch. This's the same jeweler
- 38:42Speaker 1: that was at my studio. I remember everybody once he
- 38:44Speaker 1: left was like, yo, this guy was really trying to
- 38:46Speaker 1: get over on us, like he's fucking crazy. Wow. But
- 38:50Speaker 1: you know it's wild. They got the some of the
- 38:53Speaker 1: Ellis finesss ever, because think about it, it happens a lot.
- 38:56Speaker 1: I'm sure you've seen that jeweler pull up to the
- 38:58Speaker 1: studio prior. Like that shit happens all the time, where
- 39:01Speaker 1: somebody will pull up with a fucking suitcase of ice
- 39:04Speaker 1: in a room full of rappers. There's no way to
- 39:06Speaker 1: verify if the shit is and then they'll try to
- 39:09Speaker 1: upsell you like it's like they're selling. Like you know
- 39:11Speaker 1: when you get a little kid knocking on your door
- 39:13Speaker 1: trying to sell you some candy or some shit. It's
- 39:14Speaker 1: like like in the towel lately, it's candy dudes outside
- 39:19Speaker 1: of towel every night, like trying to sell you candy
- 39:22Speaker 1: right from outside of highlight room. Really get in the bag.
- 39:26Speaker 1: It's like they must have learned from the Atlanta water boards,
- 39:28Speaker 1: like why are we hanging out at Walmart? Why are
- 39:30Speaker 1: we hanging out at Target? Let's go to the fucking Word.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Let's go to where all the famous people. Let's go
- 39:35Speaker 1: sell some fucking candy to paparazzis for sure? What up, y'all? Hey,
- 39:38Speaker 1: we gotta stop the interview to tell you about our partners.
- 39:41Speaker 1: They presenting sponsor of the Bootleg cav podcast, our family

- 40:23Speaker 1: Let's get back to the podcast. Have you had it
- 40:26Speaker 1: like a little harder time because I feel like your
- 40:27Speaker 1: profile is higher now than it's ever been in your career.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Does it kind of change how you move? Have you
- 40:35Speaker 1: noticed like maybe you gotta have security now in places
- 40:39Speaker 1: maybe you didn't have to have it before. Biggas getting
- 40:41Speaker 1: ribbed for this shit and this shit all day around La,
- 40:45Speaker 1: not just La. But you know what I'm saying, it's
- 40:47Speaker 1: like heavy out here, heavy and La. You gotta just
- 40:49Speaker 1: move proper in I'll be having my son with me, Like,
- 40:51Speaker 1: you don't want to just get caught up in any
- 40:53Speaker 1: just situation being too just all over the place, So
- 40:57Speaker 1: I move militant regardless. Yeah, that's important. Why do you
- 41:00Speaker 1: think that is in La? Man? Like? Because it is
- 41:02Speaker 1: the thing in La. I think I think a lot
- 41:04Speaker 1: of it was because the edd was rampant out here,
- 41:07Speaker 1: that shit dried up. People got to see something they
- 41:09Speaker 1: ain't ever seen and be in places ain't ever been
- 41:11Speaker 1: and it's like hard to let that go. So it's
- 41:13Speaker 1: like anybody by any means, so you just gotta be
- 41:16Speaker 1: moving right. You are somebody who took the pandemic and
- 41:19Speaker 1: like leveled up to uh, I think a career high.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I did the same thing. What was a what was it?
- 41:25Speaker 1: Was it a coincidence feed that the pandemic like worked
- 41:27Speaker 1: out for you in the right way, or was there
- 41:29Speaker 1: something that happened during the pandemic where you kind of
- 41:31Speaker 1: had to switch turn on? Because it kind of for me,
- 41:32Speaker 1: Like I said, this guy was born a day before
- 41:35Speaker 1: the lockdown, so it was like, nah, I gotta I
- 41:37Speaker 1: gotta go on the overdrive. Like I was already feeling
- 41:39Speaker 1: that way, like knowing he was coming. When he got here.
- 41:42Speaker 1: It was like, nah, bros, a game changer. I gotta
- 41:44Speaker 1: kill ship, go to a new level. Yeah, once you
- 41:47Speaker 1: have a kid, man, it changes everything. Yeah, one hundred
- 41:50Speaker 1: per How old are you two? Say what? He's shy man,
- 41:58Speaker 1: He's a shy little guy. I ain't mad at you, bro,
- 42:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna get you some chips in a little bit.
- 42:03Speaker 1: At least he don't have an iPad. You know, most
- 42:05Speaker 1: kids you get the iPad and're like, nah, for sure,
- 42:07Speaker 1: I mean he'd be having an iPhone. He don't even
- 42:09Speaker 1: like the iPad. He got an iPad and he got
- 42:12Speaker 1: his own little cell phone he'll be using a lot
- 42:14Speaker 1: of kids are getting raised by iPads these days, for sure. Yeah,
- 42:17Speaker 1: I'll tell you this. My son Millennium, he's eight years old.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Sometimes I have YouTube going on the big TV downstairs,
- 42:24Speaker 1: and I'll be like, the fuck are you? Bruh, the
- 42:28Speaker 1: fuck are you watching? Maybe into these uh what's the
- 42:33Speaker 1: mister beasts? And those YouTube right right YouTube channels are?
- 42:38Speaker 1: I mean he's still on like Blippy and like real
- 42:40Speaker 1: little kid. Yeah, the Blippy ship is lit. I don't
- 42:43Speaker 1: even know about it, bro when he was born, like
- 42:45Speaker 1: you know, that's when I first was watching Blippy come up.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And then like last week, I'm going through like the Netflix.
- 42:51Speaker 1: He's on Max. He's gonna do has like his own cartoon. Now.
- 42:55Speaker 1: It's crazy. The Blippy thing is why it really came
- 42:58Speaker 1: well man, Yeah, crazy because I remember as a kid,
- 43:01Speaker 1: like there was like Teletubbies and yeah, Blippy is that
- 43:05Speaker 1: guy right now for the kids and that little Asian kid, Ryan,
- 43:08Speaker 1: Ryan's toy, Ryan's world, Yeah right right, that kid yo,
- 43:13Speaker 1: his his parents are eat what he's like nine? What's
- 43:18Speaker 1: he doing with one hundred million dollars? His parents? I
- 43:20Speaker 1: guess us us need to get him opening toys on YouTube. Nah,
- 43:24Speaker 1: for sure, that's coming. Yeah, that's a that's a revenue
- 43:28Speaker 1: stream for sure. For sure. What else, obviously, besides your
- 43:30Speaker 1: solo ship, I'm sure you've got a lot of placements coming.
- 43:32Speaker 1: I know you can't divulge into all of those, but yeah,
- 43:35Speaker 1: I've been I've been tapped in man the hips working.
- 43:37Speaker 1: I'm actually working on a lot of music for the
- 43:39Speaker 1: new Madden that's dropping, the one with Madden on the cover.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Uh huh. Yeah, I'm doing a lot of like the
- 43:45Speaker 1: scoring for like the franchise mode, like when you're doing
- 43:48Speaker 1: a career mode, Like I'm basically all the scenes, like
- 43:50Speaker 1: I'm scoring them, So you're scoring them with all original
- 43:53Speaker 1: ship original music. That's big. Is this the first time
- 43:55Speaker 1: you've scored something like? Nah, I scored a movie called
- 43:59Speaker 1: Corked that was on Netflix. Oh the guy that's actually
- 44:02Speaker 1: the black dude that's and I can't think of his name.
- 44:04Speaker 1: He's in the new Jurassic Park that's coming out on Friday.
- 44:07Speaker 1: That was one of his first big roles. And I
- 44:09Speaker 1: scored that whole movie and did a couple other things.
- 44:13Speaker 1: But this is like, you know, when you score something
- 44:16Speaker 1: like that, do they send you those scenes dry and
- 44:19Speaker 1: then it's just up to you to set the vibe.
- 44:21Speaker 1: They'll send well, they'll send me a reference that like
- 44:24Speaker 1: they might have, you know, picked a song or picked
- 44:26Speaker 1: a piece of music that they thought fit. So they
- 44:28Speaker 1: was like, try to at least match the energy. It
- 44:31Speaker 1: is like do your own thing, but try to just
- 44:33Speaker 1: make sure it has a pace, similar to how this
- 44:36Speaker 1: is movie. Wow, that's big. So you're kind of when
- 44:39Speaker 1: when are you go You're gonna get credit on? Man,
- 44:42Speaker 1: it's probably gonna be like executive produced by hit Boy.
- 44:45Speaker 1: That's huge. Somebody who I love that's young, that's up
- 44:49Speaker 1: and coming. He's from the Bay, but he's in La.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Have you got a chance to work with Simba yet?
- 44:54Speaker 1: I have not, but I mean I didn't seen him
- 44:56Speaker 1: tear down a few free styles. He's crazy. Duke working
- 44:59Speaker 1: with him, Yeah, Duke works with him. I feel like
- 45:01Speaker 1: you guys got to set up a session. Well, we
- 45:03Speaker 1: had set up a session, but this was maybe a
- 45:04Speaker 1: couple of years ago and time and his everything. He's special. Man. Yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 1: So the game album, we don't know how many you have,
- 45:12Speaker 1: but hopefully we'll find out on the seventeenth, I guess
- 45:14Speaker 1: we all gonna find out because that's like next week, right.
- 45:17Speaker 1: I feel like Game is very, very sporadic. He's coming
- 45:21Speaker 1: on the show next week, so I'm gonna but yeah,
- 45:23Speaker 1: it's like thirty songs and next week or you know,
- 45:27Speaker 1: it's like that's a crazy guy, but he's he's a
- 45:29Speaker 1: great rapper man, so you know, let him just do
- 45:32Speaker 1: what he do. He is a great rapper and he's
- 45:34Speaker 1: got one of the more prestigious discographies. Yeah, especially on
- 45:41Speaker 1: the West Coast too, because Game don't put out whack
- 45:43Speaker 1: albums for sure. Like I can't think of a time
- 45:45Speaker 1: er I listened to a Game album and I was like,
- 45:48Speaker 1: it's like solid alwayst I feel like he's and I
- 45:51Speaker 1: feel like not a lot of people can say that
- 45:54Speaker 1: everyone has weak points in their discography. I'm not sure
- 45:56Speaker 1: Game has any. Because Red album was dope, fucking Jesus piece. Obviously,
- 46:02Speaker 1: Doctor's Advocate was my favorite. Hmm. I'm trying to think
- 46:07Speaker 1: lax Lax was fine. Album was crazy. Documentary two was dope,
- 46:11Speaker 1: a lot of bars. Are you are You? And Benny
- 46:14Speaker 1: gonna do Burner Proof too, We're gonna see I want
- 46:17Speaker 1: to tape back in that was I was just working
- 46:21Speaker 1: with Jay Worthy the other day. We all tapped in
- 46:23Speaker 1: on a text message, like a group text. We want
- 46:26Speaker 1: to do something together, so we're gonna put it together.
- 46:28Speaker 1: I feel like that's kind of his zelmatic, low key crazy.
- 46:32Speaker 1: That's a crazy way to put it. Yeah, I mean
- 46:34Speaker 1: it kind of changed his life and that and you
- 46:36Speaker 1: know a lot of people would say that's his best
- 46:38Speaker 1: body of work. It would only be right. Would you
- 46:41Speaker 1: do another joint album with you know, because you and
- 46:46Speaker 1: Conway shit is crazy? Man, that's somebody I was thinking like, man,
- 46:50Speaker 1: we might as well just cranking out do I mean Conway?
- 46:53Speaker 1: I think that should be hard. Yeah, because Conway's that
- 46:57Speaker 1: guy that ship with him and Dave's Love that I
- 46:59Speaker 1: did was hard. Oh that's that was the first song
- 47:02Speaker 1: on the album in Yeah, that was Yeah. Did you
- 47:06Speaker 1: are you going to put Dave Wolf on that record?
- 47:08Speaker 1: That was Conway? Yeah? Because that shit came out crazy. Yeah. Yeah,
- 47:12Speaker 1: shout out to the Griselda guys. Anything else that you're
- 47:15Speaker 1: working on? Man? What else should I bring up with me?
- 47:20Speaker 1: Every day? That's a lot of courses on DSPs Friday
- 47:27Speaker 1: or there's new music. Man, I'm dropping a lot of
- 47:30Speaker 1: rap ship and I'm dropping a lot of production all
- 47:32Speaker 1: at the same is your production album compilation joint? Is
- 47:36Speaker 1: that already kind of like do you have like a
- 47:38Speaker 1: folder where there's already ship in there? Set aside? So
- 47:41Speaker 1: I got a lot of joints, different artists, but you
- 47:43Speaker 1: know it's it's clearances and it's a lot of nuances
- 47:45Speaker 1: that going to I'm gonna go out on the legend
- 47:47Speaker 1: say Nas and Don Kennedy might be on that album.
- 47:51Speaker 1: That's a good guess, that's an easy one. And then
- 47:54Speaker 1: King's Disease three hopefully I'm working on the album with
- 47:56Speaker 1: Belly to Belly, Are You serious? Ship? Album? Pretty much done?
- 48:00Speaker 1: We got some crazy joints, dude hip hop and some
- 48:03Speaker 1: turned up shit. Belly is one of my favorite rappers
- 48:09Speaker 1: just period, and he's like my shroom brother. Me and
- 48:11Speaker 1: him are very much into into the shrooms. Has Belly
- 48:15Speaker 1: tried to get you the eatrooms yet? Now, Belly ain't.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I mean a lot of people have been talking about
- 48:21Speaker 1: strooms lately, but that's not my thing. But he does
- 48:24Speaker 1: cook a crazy mill a crazy tenderlin with these noodles,
- 48:29Speaker 1: broy Can. He's such a prolific, so prolific on that pan.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Have you been in the studio with him? He has
- 48:37Speaker 1: this thing at his house. It's like a plate with
- 48:40Speaker 1: sand on it, and he got a few houses or something.
- 48:44Speaker 1: No, no no, no, no no. So there's this like thing.
- 48:46Speaker 1: It's there's a name for it, and it's like a
- 48:49Speaker 1: plate that has a bunch of sand on it and
- 48:52Speaker 1: it makes shapes the music that you play, whatever frequency
- 48:57Speaker 1: or whatever the sand moves into like the shapes of
- 49:00Speaker 1: it's it's crazy. You got to ask him about that ship.
- 49:03Speaker 1: So you and Belly got a whole album coming. Yeah
- 49:06Speaker 1: the fuck I got to pull up on Belly in
- 49:09Speaker 1: here this ship. What did you guys record it at
- 49:12Speaker 1: his house? Your place? We recorded it at my spot
- 49:14Speaker 1: in his spot. Yeah, he got a crazy studio. Yeah,
- 49:16Speaker 1: he's actually the producer CV with two Uh it's a duo.
- 49:19Speaker 1: I forget their names, man, but they're super talented. I
- 49:22Speaker 1: would fuck I wish I remember their names. You probably
- 49:24Speaker 1: met the guys, the two guys he's got with them,
- 49:27Speaker 1: the homies from XO. Yeah yeah, yeah, and he's got
- 49:30Speaker 1: a very moody French bulldog. Chips have been secured, ladies,
- 49:36Speaker 1: The chips have been secured. So Belly album King's Disease
- 49:40Speaker 1: three hopefully Yeah, yeah, we you know, that's a tough one, bro,
- 49:45Speaker 1: because it's the first time we got some real pressure
- 49:48Speaker 1: on us speak. We got so much lead time before.
- 49:51Speaker 1: You really only had like seven days to prepare for
- 49:54Speaker 1: KD one, five days to prepare for kat two and
- 49:57Speaker 1: then Magic. We dropped the cover twelve hours before. How
- 50:00Speaker 1: magic shit came out out of nowhere. It was like
- 50:02Speaker 1: a twelve hours We dropped the artwork maybe twelve pm
- 50:06Speaker 1: and it dropped at twelve am. So we this is
- 50:08Speaker 1: the longest, like because he he said this, you know,
- 50:11Speaker 1: on the song Ugly Katie three on the way. This
- 50:14Speaker 1: is real, Like it's pressure, this shit gotta be hard,
- 50:17Speaker 1: gotta be and it's the trilogy. It's the trilogy. There
- 50:20Speaker 1: hasn't been any I mean shout out to the blueprint, right,
- 50:22Speaker 1: there's three of those. There were some weak points in
- 50:25Speaker 1: the Blueprint. I mean I wouldn't I wasn't crazy about
- 50:27Speaker 1: Blueprint three to be, but Blueprint two had some of
- 50:30Speaker 1: my favorite hope. Now, there was some fat that they
- 50:33Speaker 1: cut off when they did the Blueprint two point one.
- 50:35Speaker 1: You remember that they put out like the original blueprint too,
- 50:38Speaker 1: and then there was this You never know what that
- 50:40Speaker 1: was about. It was just because there was there was
- 50:42Speaker 1: some good ship on the Blueprint too, like some of
- 50:44Speaker 1: my favorite hope. I think the best storytelling song ever
- 50:47Speaker 1: is on there. It's called Me the Parents. Oh yeah,
- 50:49Speaker 1: that's a classic record. But there was a lot of
- 50:52Speaker 1: bullshit on Blueprint. Blueprint too. So they did the two
- 50:55Speaker 1: point one. I feel like it was kind of like
- 50:57Speaker 1: because I always used to see that cover because they
- 50:58Speaker 1: had the red with the like split up. I just
- 51:01Speaker 1: never knew what I was. I think it was just like,
- 51:02Speaker 1: all right, guys. I think it was their way of
- 51:05Speaker 1: trying to get people to really digest the fire shit
- 51:07Speaker 1: on that album. But you guys are two for two,
- 51:10Speaker 1: three for three, But you know King's Disease three you
- 51:13Speaker 1: got You're right, kay, three gotta you gotta beat the one.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Do you feel like the way you and Nabs work
- 51:18Speaker 1: together like this is just for life now? I mean
- 51:21Speaker 1: I was, I mean because I would hate like King's
- 51:23Speaker 1: Disease three come out, and then I got cool, but
- 51:25Speaker 1: we completed the trilogy. We're moving on. You never know, bro, Honestly,
- 51:28Speaker 1: we just kind of just move off the energy that's
- 51:31Speaker 1: present with us and it just seems like it's gonna
- 51:34Speaker 1: be going for a while, so let's just hope for that.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Who do you think you have similar chemistry with? I
- 51:39Speaker 1: would say Sean, I would say Dom. I actually got
- 51:42Speaker 1: a great fucking rapport with Don Tolliver, Like, you know,
- 51:47Speaker 1: I did a single his first single on his last album,
- 51:49Speaker 1: What You Need, and we're working on new music now
- 51:52Speaker 1: and it's like me and Bro got a synergy. You know.
- 51:55Speaker 1: I love Don Tolliver because his voice to me is
- 51:58Speaker 1: just very just like there's very few people who have
- 52:02Speaker 1: like that unique pitch. That's you're like when you hear him,
- 52:04Speaker 1: you hear him, that's you know who it is? Is?
- 52:08Speaker 1: He still managed by Cheddar the Connect. I would not
- 52:11Speaker 1: know Bro. Remember the Flick of the Wrist song from
- 52:14Speaker 1: what I understood for a while that was his manager,
- 52:16Speaker 1: which is amazing because that song was south By Southwest
- 52:20Speaker 1: twenty fourteen encapsulated is Flick of the Wrist? Did you
- 52:24Speaker 1: ever do a south By run? Oh? Yeah, you came
- 52:26Speaker 1: to my stage and performed I used to go to
- 52:29Speaker 1: say I was going there way before even Niggas was
- 52:32Speaker 1: even a low poping. Yeah. No, that my first big
- 52:35Speaker 1: stage there. You guys performed. Do you remember that it
- 52:39Speaker 1: was you guys, Audio, Push, whiz Khalifa, Berner and Tye
- 52:44Speaker 1: performed Crazy Damn. You know runs used to be like
- 52:49Speaker 1: you were just going down you do like twelve shows. Yeah.
- 52:52Speaker 1: I went to south By this year for the first
- 52:55Speaker 1: time since like twenty sixteen, and it was god awful.
- 52:58Speaker 1: I would never get bro don't go. It's a waste.
- 53:01Speaker 1: What was different about it just there's no energy. There's
- 53:04Speaker 1: it's it's terrible. Like you know, you used to go
- 53:06Speaker 1: to south By it was a thing, and you'd also
- 53:10Speaker 1: be like, oh, I got to check out this person
- 53:13Speaker 1: because they're on the cusp, you know what I mean.
- 53:16Speaker 1: There was none of that this year. It was it
- 53:18Speaker 1: was the first year back post pandemic, but it was
- 53:20Speaker 1: absolutely disappointing. I was like, I was trying to tell
- 53:23Speaker 1: the homies that are out there with me for the
- 53:25Speaker 1: I was like this just so y'all know, this ain't
- 53:26Speaker 1: how usually is this ship used to be legendary? Cool man?
- 53:31Speaker 1: Then shit, you gotta start DJ man. What you talking to?
- 53:33Speaker 1: South Side? South Side is gonna start DJing. You gotta
- 53:35Speaker 1: start DJA. Get all the bags the little gig I
- 53:39Speaker 1: did like when I really DJ, like they paid me great,
- 53:42Speaker 1: So I'm with all that. You just play, you know,
- 53:45Speaker 1: nwards in Paris and all the hits played out about
- 53:47Speaker 1: ten times. And let's say I was gonna say peak
- 53:51Speaker 1: in Paris. How many times in a road did they
- 53:53Speaker 1: end up? What was the record on the Washing the
- 53:55Speaker 1: Throne tour? They did it back to back to back.
- 53:57Speaker 1: I feel like it's like fifteen fourteen, fifth team in
- 54:00Speaker 1: a row. Yeah, and in the club you could play
- 54:03Speaker 1: that bitch five times, just back to back to back.
- 54:07Speaker 1: I don't even remember the last time that happened. It
- 54:10Speaker 1: hasn't as far as I know. There's been big club
- 54:14Speaker 1: records like I remember, like Designers Panda was like a
- 54:16Speaker 1: fucking moment, but like nothing that you could just rewind
- 54:21Speaker 1: over and over it, especially in a concert. Oh yeah,
- 54:24Speaker 1: the show ship was crazy. And then you I remember
- 54:27Speaker 1: you got pulled up on stage at one of those
- 54:28Speaker 1: shows that was just showing Paris. That was it. Didn't
- 54:34Speaker 1: you have that framed or something? For sure? Yeah? I
- 54:36Speaker 1: got that on a canvas. Somebody got that done for me.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Where do you keep your grammies these days? Right in
- 54:41Speaker 1: the studio, right where I'm making beats. You don't keep
- 54:44Speaker 1: any at home and at the mom's house. Nothing. Nah,
- 54:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna get some more and then I'll give them
- 54:48Speaker 1: to it. Can you order extras? No, they just give
- 54:51Speaker 1: you the one. Yeah. If it's fucked, it's fucked, right,
- 54:55Speaker 1: damn all the how many Grammies now? Three? Now? Three?
- 55:00Speaker 1: It's a lot of Grammys, man, that's you know, there's
- 55:03Speaker 1: people out here with twenty something. Man, so I got
- 55:05Speaker 1: work to do. These people out here with zero. You
- 55:07Speaker 1: are right about that. You have more than Nas. That's crazy. Yeah,
- 55:11Speaker 1: that's nuts. You have two more than nas. Right, Yeah,
- 55:15Speaker 1: I can't share the one we got together. That's you
- 55:18Speaker 1: know what's crazy? As I feel like Nas is like
- 55:20Speaker 1: up until he got his Grammy, it was like Leonardo
- 55:21Speaker 1: DiCaprio at the Oscars, like Leo has this one of
- 55:25Speaker 1: the greatest actors of all time, and up until what
- 55:28Speaker 1: was the movie with the bear that fucked him up?
- 55:30Speaker 1: Do you remember the name of that movie? Nima Revenant.
- 55:33Speaker 1: He finally, he finally got one. It's like, dude, this
- 55:38Speaker 1: is an all time great Tupac ain't got no Grammy, Big,
- 55:41Speaker 1: I don't think got no grammy. A lot of people
- 55:44Speaker 1: don't man, so which one means the most, the Nipsy
- 55:46Speaker 1: Grammy or the NAS Grammy. That's a great question. They both.
- 55:51Speaker 1: They both meet a whole lot. Honestly, I feel like
- 55:54Speaker 1: the energy that Nipsey left with me and left in
- 55:56Speaker 1: my room just because he loved working in my studio
- 55:58Speaker 1: so much, that trickle down into KDE. I don't think
- 56:02Speaker 1: there will be a KD, you know, because just the
- 56:05Speaker 1: amount of energy in the way I feel when I'm
- 56:07Speaker 1: in a room in a way that other artists feel
- 56:09Speaker 1: they want to work. They got a real spirit of
- 56:12Speaker 1: one to get shit done when they pull up. I
- 56:14Speaker 1: don't think the KD shit it's I think it has
- 56:17Speaker 1: something to do with nick you know. I don't want
- 56:19Speaker 1: if you don't know, super spiritual or no Weir or whatever.
- 56:21Speaker 1: But I definitely think he left an energy there for
- 56:24Speaker 1: me and NAS to really because him and NAS had
- 56:26Speaker 1: just linked up before it happened. Obviously, me and nip
- 56:29Speaker 1: was working a lot, so it was just something that
- 56:31Speaker 1: just tells me like that energy was left in there
- 56:34Speaker 1: for me and Nos to get them albums done. Nipsey
- 56:37Speaker 1: was obviously a one of one. Is there anyone in
- 56:40Speaker 1: the game right now? That gives you similar energy that
- 56:43Speaker 1: nippad sh man. I can't call it right now. I
- 56:52Speaker 1: can't really think of nobody right. It was very like
- 56:55Speaker 1: lightning in a bottle. It's crazy one for sure, one
- 56:59Speaker 1: on one for sure. Man, Oh, what's for you? Man?
- 57:03Speaker 1: You know, if we watch this in twenty years, what
- 57:07Speaker 1: do you want the legacy of hip boy to be?
- 57:10Speaker 1: And you might still be fucking active in twenty years.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Let's say we watched him thirty five years you're retired.
- 57:16Speaker 1: What do you want the legacy of hip boy to be? Man? Oh,
- 57:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna just say, like just being associated with great shit,
- 57:25Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying the way I look at
- 57:27Speaker 1: the people who came before me, like I just want
- 57:29Speaker 1: people to look at me the same way. Like, Man,
- 57:31Speaker 1: this motherfucker was really on that music shit, really like
- 57:34Speaker 1: going crazy. I think you're very much like knocking. So
- 57:37Speaker 1: you know, when we always ask who's the greatest producers
- 57:39Speaker 1: of all time, there's always the names that nobody can
- 57:42Speaker 1: say shit about. I think it's DJ Premier, it's Doctor Dre,
- 57:44Speaker 1: It's timbaland Riza, you know, I mean, even alchemists in
- 57:49Speaker 1: that conversation. But there's there's like that. I feel like
- 57:52Speaker 1: you're like, right, you're I think you're I mean you're there,
- 57:57Speaker 1: You're getting there. You're getting into that conversation that not
- 58:00Speaker 1: a lot of people like a very elite club of
- 58:04Speaker 1: all time greats. I mean, you know, that's honestly something
- 58:09Speaker 1: that's not really up to me. It's just about me
- 58:11Speaker 1: putting in the work, putting in the time to be
- 58:14Speaker 1: considered on that level. Yeah, I think you're up there, man.
- 58:17Speaker 1: I think in terms of just quality of beats, I'm
- 58:20Speaker 1: not sure anybody can fuck with you. I always told
- 58:22Speaker 1: you this, anytime you've ever just like played beats as
- 58:24Speaker 1: long as I've known you, dude, I've never had anybody
- 58:29Speaker 1: ever just play me beats that just like stand alone
- 58:33Speaker 1: by themselves in such an amazing way. So shout out
- 58:36Speaker 1: to you man, Uh course out new ship on the way. Yes,
- 58:41Speaker 1: go buy this. The merch available March is available on
- 58:44Speaker 1: hit boy dot com. Surf Club ship coming there it is, man,
- 58:49Speaker 1: go buy some hip boy og. Yes, sir, and uh yeah,
- 58:53Speaker 1: shout out to your son who who brought up amazing
- 58:55Speaker 1: He's somewhere here. It is man, hit Boy
