- 0:29I Hate Talking: Welcome to episode 35 of I Hate Talking.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: Hi everyone.
- 0:34I Hate Talking: Crazy that we have recorded 35 episodes.
- 0:37I Hate Talking: That is a lot of episodes and it's been a lot of fun.
- 0:43I Hate Talking: So I'm glad we've done this.
- 0:45I Hate Talking: Indeed, it is a good way to grow old together.
- 0:49I Hate Talking: 35 was a good year.
- 0:52I Hate Talking: I remember it explicitly, and I, 1935.
- 0:57I Hate Talking: No, I don't remember 1935.
- 1:01I Hate Talking: I remember being 35 and that was a good year.
- 1:04I Hate Talking: When you were aged 35.
- 1:07I Hate Talking: When you and I were both aged 35, I feel like that might have been the sweet spot for us.
- 1:13I Hate Talking: It was a good year.
- 1:14I Hate Talking: Indeed, I think you're probably right.
- 1:17I Hate Talking: All right, this word is related to something that we started to discuss in our previous episode with perhaps that older generation, loving some odd or new things within their experience.
- 1:35I Hate Talking: So this word is Neophilia.
- 1:40I Hate Talking: Neophilia?
- 1:42I Hate Talking: Neophilia.
- 1:44I Hate Talking: OK, that does not sound like a legitimate word.
- 1:47I Hate Talking: So to some degree, it's not, it's not really like a widely accepted English word.
- 1:55I Hate Talking: It is a word made up of Greek and Latin phrases to literally mean love of the new.
- 2:03I Hate Talking: Neophilia love the new.
- 2:06I Hate Talking: I would not have guessed that actually, hearing it, Neophilia, I I feel like, um, yeah, this is showing my Lack of knowledge, but I think of like.
- 2:19I Hate Talking: Negative things.
- 2:22I Hate Talking: I don't even want to say it on here.
- 2:24I Hate Talking: And the word you thought I was saying was different.
- 2:26I Hate Talking: So every word that Comes with cilia seems to be negative.
- 2:33I Hate Talking: Words we can't put on this podcast cause we don't want that kind of rating.
- 2:38I Hate Talking: So, are there any other phillias that are not in the Adult rated category.
- 2:48I Hate Talking: So ya, to cover the bases there, is from the Greek word that means friendship, affinity or love typically refers to brotherly love, so some form of affection or friendship.
- 3:04I Hate Talking: So it is different from the Greek word Eros, which usually means more of a romantic love or agape, which means a spiritual love, but That this is Phila in terms of that brotherly love.
- 3:20I Hate Talking: Philadelphia.
- 3:22I Hate Talking: Philadelphia.
- 3:22I Hate Talking: OK.
- 3:23I Hate Talking: OK.
- 3:23I Hate Talking: So when, when I said and you both again off air, say what word comes to our mind, something ila, and both of us said, well, we can't put that on the radio, both of those were a form of quote unquote love, right?
- 3:40I Hate Talking: So you're putting something and then what you love.
- 3:43I Hate Talking: Precisely one of the positive words that is associated with philia is Audio file, who is a person who is enthusiastic about high fidelity sound reproduction or a bibliophile or bibliophilia who is a person who loves and collects books often with an extensive library.
- 4:10I Hate Talking: Uh, there's also a cinephile, which is likewise somebody that is fond of the art of the cinema or movies.
- 4:21I Hate Talking: There's a Word logophilia, which is associated with the love of words and language, also can mean those.
- 4:32I Hate Talking: Enthusiastic about symbology.
- 4:35I Hate Talking: So would it be fair to say then that any thing that ends in philia.
- 4:42I Hate Talking: It is not necessarily bad, cause some things are good, some things are bad that we know of, but that it's abnormal or not the norm.
- 4:54I Hate Talking: If you're a bibliophilia, you love books more than your average person.
- 5:02I Hate Talking: Is that a fair Thought of this?
- 5:06I Hate Talking: I think so, and actually there's maybe a improper use or a co-opting of the word.
- 5:14I Hate Talking: Phillia in terms of brotherly affection with some of the other words that may be associated with that root word, and that those should actually be more associated with the Greek root word eros rather than ya.
- 5:29I Hate Talking: OK, what does eros mean?
- 5:31I Hate Talking: So, as stated in the very start of the episode, Eros will typically have to do more with the physicality or Passionate side of love.
- 5:44I Hate Talking: So, um, a phrase I've heard multiple times by the Doctor John Deloney.
- 5:52I Hate Talking: He is a podcast.
- 5:53I Hate Talking: He is part of the Ramsey Corporation.
- 5:57I Hate Talking: He talks about arrows and saying, make your home.
- 6:01I Hate Talking: Arrows.
- 6:03I Hate Talking: And what he means by that is talking to your spouse and saying, when you come home from work, what do you want to feel?
- 6:11I Hate Talking: What do you want to see?
- 6:13I Hate Talking: And trying to make your home for both of you have this excitement and draw to each other.
- 6:21I Hate Talking: This is just like a mundane.
- 6:24I Hate Talking: Humdrum of normal life.
- 6:28I Hate Talking: He's trying to say like, wait here and he's saying, like, make it exciting, make yourselves drawn to each other versus just being passing ships in the night.
- 6:38I Hate Talking: But he's the only one I hear on a regular basis, talk about arrows, when he always is, prompting people to find the arrows in each other.
- 6:47I Hate Talking: And that will typically have to do with relationships, typically of the husband and wife that perhaps that he's getting at, but.
- 6:57I Hate Talking: Nonetheless, Phila is what we have in mind for this particular episode and Neophilia, specifically in terms of what we were getting at in the last episode with some of these novel things that We come to enjoy within the.
- 7:18I Hate Talking: Later stages of our life.
- 7:21I Hate Talking: So, for example, what I put into Google to Arrive at this particular word of the episode is quote, what is it called when old people enjoy novel things and neophilia is the result.
- 7:38I Hate Talking: And that is how we arrived at our word or phrase of this episode, Neophilia, as a description of old people enjoying novel things, or literally love of the new.
- 7:52I Hate Talking: OK.
- 7:53I Hate Talking: So neophilia means love of the new.
- 7:56I Hate Talking: That is literally the meaning of the word, yes.
- 8:00I Hate Talking: And it makes sense, right?
- 8:01I Hate Talking: When we were talking about ila saying like it's a love for abnormal or not your typical thing.
- 8:11I Hate Talking: So this is something that an old person.
- 8:14I Hate Talking: That sounds so mean to say, but like an old person's love for something that isn't what you'd expect them to love, or they find something later in life that they enjoy.
- 8:26I Hate Talking: Is that what we're thinking?
- 8:28I Hate Talking: Precisely, just like the artwork on the can of pernicious IPA that we were discussing last episode with some interesting novel, non-standard.
- 8:42I Hate Talking: Plant life in some odd colors and shapes.
- 8:46I Hate Talking: That are depicted there on.
- 8:49I Hate Talking: OK, so we are not sponsored by them, but we wouldn't be opposed to it.
- 8:54I Hate Talking: Tell me why you're drawn to this artwork and the novel Plant Life.
- 9:00I Hate Talking: So, there is just some theories around this particular concept that as a child, you are enthralled with your world around you.
- 9:12I Hate Talking: And everything that you're learning about and new sights and sounds and even colors, as we were discussing about last episode that you may discover a brand new color that you literally have never seen in your entire life before as a child, and that as you become older, there is less and less of that novelty.
- 9:34I Hate Talking: So, you may not ever see a new color.
- 9:38I Hate Talking: Perhaps you've seen all the colors in the world in some hue or shade or saturation.
- 9:44I Hate Talking: Maybe it's a little bit different, but it will not really be necessarily novel to you.
- 9:52I Hate Talking: Same thing for perhaps plants or animals or things of within nature that you've seen a lot of those things either in real life or in books and movies and studies and things of that nature.
- 10:10I Hate Talking: So that when you do encounter something truly novel.
- 10:15I Hate Talking: Usually in a work of fiction or artwork.
- 10:20I Hate Talking: That because the way that the artist has rendered either those shapes or colors or depictions of novel plant life or animal life or structures or Vehicles or anything that one can imagine.
- 10:38I Hate Talking: That Older generations will be drawn to that because it triggers within them a childlike response in seeing something that is brand new and has never been seen before.
- 10:53I Hate Talking: So do you think that you Are drawn or do you seek out more novel things?
- 11:02I Hate Talking: As a whole, like foods you eat or things you see, do you look for those novel, different things?
- 11:10I Hate Talking: Yes, I think I do, perhaps more within the works of fiction or artwork where either those novel things are depicted in pictures or animations or movies or even within the written word that those novel depictions in whatever form they are.
- 11:32I Hate Talking: are found to be more.
- 11:34I Hate Talking: Interesting to me in my later years.
- 11:37I Hate Talking: Would you rather watch a new show or new movie, or rewatch something you know is good?
- 11:44I Hate Talking: So typically it's going to be within the new category.
- 11:49I Hate Talking: And that if there is something.
- 11:53I Hate Talking: That I have seen before that it must be good and that I'm not going to rewatch something that.
- 12:02I Hate Talking: I Mediocre.
- 12:05I Hate Talking: Or read something again that is mediocre.
- 12:09I Hate Talking: But I will typically make a very conscious decision to do that and perhaps revisit some of that, and maybe even do that in some reference to nostalgia that I am actually seeking to recreate that initial experience of watching or reading or consuming that particular show or book or whatever the case may be.
- 12:33I Hate Talking: And that perhaps even upon the rewatch and I'm looking for something new and insightful that I did not see the first time around.
- 12:44I Hate Talking: What do you think I do?
- 12:47I Hate Talking: I think you watch things that you have watched before or read things that you have read before as a form of comfort because they are.
- 12:57I Hate Talking: Familiar Yeah, I mean, I occasionally watch other stuff.
- 13:03I Hate Talking: I obviously listen to some other stuff.
- 13:06I Hate Talking: But in general, I have my go to's, like, Every year I read the book Step in Heavenward.
- 13:14I Hate Talking: I know that the front and back, but it is so enjoyable for me to either read or listen to.
- 13:21I Hate Talking: I also watched The Office and Gilmore Girls, both of those shows are just like constant background noise to me.
- 13:31I Hate Talking: And yeah, they're just familiar and I enjoy knowing what's coming.
- 13:36I Hate Talking: We're coming up on the holiday season.
- 13:39I Hate Talking: I love Hallmark, and I know it's a joke for many people, but I love Hallmark movies.
- 13:47I Hate Talking: I love how you can predict at the end, everyone's happy and everyone's together.
- 13:54I Hate Talking: In a happy ever after situation.
- 13:58I Hate Talking: I love that predictability.
- 14:00I Hate Talking: I feel like life in general, there's so many ups and downs.
- 14:05I Hate Talking: I love knowing that in an hour, it wraps up beautifully and everyone's smiling and happy because the real world, maybe tomorrow is gonna be hard, and I don't want to have to deal with hard right now.
- 14:19I Hate Talking: I want to enjoy something happy and know it's gonna end happy.
- 14:24I Hate Talking: So that's an interesting observation that perhaps in the world of fiction that you do like things to be familiar and controlled.
- 14:33I Hate Talking: And In the real world are expecting chaos and unexpected things, whereas I enjoy the novel and unexpected things within the world of fiction and in an attempt to control the real world, try to make everything familiar and routine.
- 14:56I Hate Talking: Yeah, wow.
- 14:57I Hate Talking: OK, that's super interesting because I feel like, in general, if you talk about how we live our lives, I'm much more like Hey, it's great weather.
- 15:07I Hate Talking: Let's go outside.
- 15:08I Hate Talking: Let's go to the zoo.
- 15:09I Hate Talking: Uh, there was legitimately a conversation we had earlier, like, It's great weather, we should go to the zoo.
- 15:15I Hate Talking: But we didn't go because we didn't have it planned.
- 15:19I Hate Talking: Because of family, people in our house that love plants, and we were busy with other stuff, so like, it just wasn't practical.
- 15:29I Hate Talking: But if it was up to me, we'd have gone to the zoo.
- 15:31I Hate Talking: It was a great day.
- 15:32I Hate Talking: And things like that where I'm like, hey, let's do this today.
- 15:36I Hate Talking: Where you and maybe some other people in our household.
- 15:39I Hate Talking: would get thrown off and really bothered by this instant moment change in plans.
- 15:47I Hate Talking: So it's funny that like, in leisure time, I want predictability and I want That happy ever after constantly.
- 15:56I Hate Talking: But in real life, when I'm doing something, I'm much more prone to spontaneous burst of energy and excitement.
- 16:05I Hate Talking: Where in shows, you want more of the excitement, you want more of the unpredictability or not necessarily happy ever afters.
- 16:15I Hate Talking: In real life, you want to know what's coming next.
- 16:19I Hate Talking: You're very bothered when I'm like, hey, let's go do this.
- 16:23I Hate Talking: In 20 seconds, we're leaving when you had no heads up ahead of time.
- 16:28I Hate Talking: Precisely, and that was something that we discussed many episodes ago with even the way that we make decisions that perhaps there will be some novelty in the things that I do or partake in in terms of even a food menu, but that I will.
- 16:49I Hate Talking: Have that novelty contained within a very narrow scope of controlled expectations.
- 16:57I Hate Talking: OK, so I wonder why we're so vast, like, and what I consume for entertainment or just background noise, versus what you consume as entertainment and background noise, and how we react with life, even our music.
- 17:14I Hate Talking: When you listen to music, often my heart rate just spikes because it's so loud and it's so intense.
- 17:22I Hate Talking: I'm like, let's just play some quiet, calm music, please.
- 17:26I Hate Talking: In general, our personalities are very different.
- 17:29I Hate Talking: I'm much more outgoing, much more loud than you are in your personality.
- 17:36I Hate Talking: So what does that mean?
- 17:38I Hate Talking: or is that a common thing that people's recreation versus personality are so different?
- 17:44I Hate Talking: Or do we just compliment each other so well?
- 17:48I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think it probably does have some relationship to just the normal.
- 17:54I Hate Talking: Disposition of people and that there are going to be a variety of dispositions, whether that be some of the things that we've discussed before in terms of introvert versus extrovert or you know how you process verbally or nonverbally and perhaps this is just yet another facet of the human psyche that makes people unique is in terms of how they find and enjoy novelty.
- 18:21I Hate Talking: I just wonder if there's something that we're not realizing.
- 18:26I Hate Talking: That goes into like, When I plan something, like my recreation, I want it planned, and I want it to end all happy with a bow on top.
- 18:38I Hate Talking: I'm OK in real life, it not being like that.
- 18:43I Hate Talking: Well, you're the opposite in your recreation, and your TV shows or music, you're OK.
- 18:51I Hate Talking: Leaving it undone or very messy and sad.
- 18:55I Hate Talking: In your life, You want it very wrapped up in a bow and expected.
- 19:02I Hate Talking: That is true, something perhaps that we can contemplate.
- 19:07I Hate Talking: Another example is the show on, I think it's Netflix and yes it is Netflix, in fact, because I had to buy an additional subscription just to finish watching the show and did so because I enjoyed it so much.
- 19:24I Hate Talking: And that show is called Scavenger's Rain.
- 19:30I Hate Talking: And it's a relatively short series that is animated.
- 19:35I Hate Talking: And I don't think that you were able to even make it through the 1st 5 minutes of the first episode.
- 19:42I Hate Talking: Hi, Eunice said the name.
- 19:44I Hate Talking: I had no idea what you're talking about.
- 19:46I Hate Talking: Sorry.
- 19:47I Hate Talking: We don't recall the show about a group of human people that crash land on an alien planet and are trying to scavenge all the parts and be able to escape.
- 20:00I Hate Talking: The said planet that they have crashed landed on.
- 20:04I Hate Talking: How many times did you try to get me to watch this?
- 20:07I Hate Talking: I don't know it at all.
- 20:09I Hate Talking: Exactly my point.
- 20:11I Hate Talking: So I think a few times and this show is within.
- 20:15I Hate Talking: The vein of.
- 20:18I Hate Talking: Neophilia, very squarely because it depicts plant and animal life that is extremely alien and The people within this particular.
- 20:32I Hate Talking: Work of fiction, treat it almost normally that it's not really all that odd, but it is definitively odd but again, when you really compare.
- 20:42I Hate Talking: What they are experiencing with some of the oddities in nature that we really do have.
- 20:50I Hate Talking: Perhaps it's not really all that strange nonetheless, but That is, again, squarely within that concept of neophilia with finding novelty and things that are extremely new.
- 21:04I Hate Talking: So they are traveling the universe.
- 21:08I Hate Talking: They're seeing a bunch of new stuff.
- 21:10I Hate Talking: Is that what they were doing?
- 21:11I Hate Talking: They were traveling like in a spaceship.
- 21:13I Hate Talking: Yes, and crash landed.
- 21:16I Hate Talking: OK, so they've seen very odd stuff like Not usual stuff that we would see here.
- 21:22I Hate Talking: That was not really part of the actual narrative.
- 21:29I Hate Talking: It was just there and that was like the that everything that they were experiencing was.
- 21:33I Hate Talking: In some Way relatively normal.
- 21:38I Hate Talking: So, there's a correct answer to this, so make sure you Pay attention When you're talking about this word, you're saying that it's when you're older and you find enjoyment in new stuff.
- 21:51I Hate Talking: But you're saying that because I do not find enjoyment with new stuff.
- 21:55I Hate Talking: I enjoy watching the same things over again.
- 21:58I Hate Talking: You're saying I'm not old yet.
- 22:00I Hate Talking: Yeah, I guess you could interpret it that way, right?
- 22:03I Hate Talking: Yeah, so.
- 22:05I Hate Talking: The interesting thing in the definition of neophilia is that it is not necessarily used exclusively with older people though it does seem to relate generally to older people finding.
- 22:18I Hate Talking: Things New and loving those things, but it can be used just in terms of love of the new in general.
- 22:26I Hate Talking: OK.
- 22:28I Hate Talking: Without any regards to the person's age, old or otherwise.
- 22:31I Hate Talking: So a young child tasting new foods.
- 22:35I Hate Talking: If they have enjoyment in finding new foods.
- 22:40I Hate Talking: It have neophilia.
- 22:42I Hate Talking: Where someone that gravitates towards avocado and sweet potatoes always would not have an enjoyment in neophilia.
- 22:53I Hate Talking: Perhaps and maybe that even goes back to 2 episodes ago or 3 when we were talking about some of the things that twins either are picky eaters or not, that maybe people are predisposition to.
- 23:07I Hate Talking: Neophilia and enjoying new things while others may seek out the more familiar things and be happy with that.
- 23:14I Hate Talking: Oh man, we just needed a bunch more twins to ask this question to.
- 23:17I Hate Talking: So that is the show Scavenger's reign that I did in joy as sort of this neophilia and novel things.
- 23:25I Hate Talking: -- When -- did you watch that?
- 23:27I Hate Talking: I do not have any recollection of it.
- 23:30I Hate Talking: -- It -- was just a few months ago.
- 23:32I Hate Talking: So, um, for background, for anyone who would be interested.
- 23:36I Hate Talking: We have kids, we put them to bed, we often will watch a show or podcast, or talk about a book or anything like that.
- 23:45I Hate Talking: And so, if we are going to watch a show together, that is the time after we put the kids to bed.
- 23:50I Hate Talking: Otherwise, we're watching Sonic or Boss Baby, and all those sort of things as a family.
- 23:57I Hate Talking: But I often either will tell you, I'm just tired, I'm gonna go to sleep.
- 24:02I Hate Talking: Cause I wake up way earlier than you as a whole.
- 24:07I Hate Talking: So, I go to bed earlier than you.
- 24:09I Hate Talking: So, I'll either watch and just You turn off the show when I fall asleep, that ends up what happens.
- 24:17I Hate Talking: I always fall asleep when we start a show.
- 24:18I Hate Talking: And if it's something I'm not interested in, I'm like, just finish it, I don't care.
- 24:23I Hate Talking: So is that one of those that you started and I fell asleep, and you just continued on watching?
- 24:28I Hate Talking: Yes, and I think I did not really try all that hard because I actually enjoyed it so much and sort of just very quickly gave up on you coming along.
- 24:38I Hate Talking: Because you were anxious to watch it.
- 24:39I Hate Talking: I was anxious to watch it.
- 24:40I Hate Talking: So I actually I would not.
- 24:42I Hate Talking: I think this would classify as binging the show because it has one season and it seems like probably it's only going to be one season.
- 24:51I Hate Talking: It's 12 episodes.
- 24:53I Hate Talking: They're on average 23 minutes long per episode.
- 24:57I Hate Talking: I was introduced to the show on September 19th, watched the 1st 4 episodes by September 20th, and finished all 12 episodes by September 25th.
- 25:09I Hate Talking: Wow.
- 25:10I Hate Talking: So yeah, I definitely had just fallen asleep and you just watched them all.
- 25:14I Hate Talking: I think so.
- 25:15I Hate Talking: OK.
- 25:16I Hate Talking: But in fairness to you, cause you don't do that often, it's not like you stay up all night long watching TV.
- 25:23I Hate Talking: Sometimes, if it's a hard week, I'm like, we just need to laugh.
- 25:27I Hate Talking: Let's put on The Office.
- 25:29I Hate Talking: And you will, you enjoy the Office, but I think you don't get as much enjoyment rewatching it over and over.
- 25:36I Hate Talking: Where, like, to me it's just like a mental break, like, I need to not think about life right now.
- 25:43I Hate Talking: Let's just laugh at what insane thing Michael Scott is doing at this moment.
- 25:47I Hate Talking: Precisely, and there are a few things that I do enjoy rewatching, but again, I think it almost would be for the purpose of finding something new within that particular.
- 26:00I Hate Talking: Work of fiction or even nonfiction.
- 26:05I Hate Talking: -- So -- you'd watch it trying to find new stuff.
- 26:07I Hate Talking: I think so, even with like the Office and like I said at the very start, it has to be good.
- 26:13I Hate Talking: So that means that it is only the episodes with Steve Carell in them that I would rewatch.
- 26:20I Hate Talking: That I will watch those maybe to relive some of the jokes, but also maybe to pick up on some new character references or nuances or maybe some jokes that I've missed in the past that I did not fully appreciate.
- 26:35I Hate Talking: And one.
- 26:37I Hate Talking: Other, again work of fiction that comes to mind that I've rewatched many, many times is The Matrix trilogy.
- 26:45I Hate Talking: But again, that is often when I'm rewatching that for the express purpose of finding something new in that particular trilogy.
- 26:55I Hate Talking: What books?
- 26:57I Hate Talking: Are there any books that you reread as like a comfort or enjoyment?
- 27:02I Hate Talking: So there is a book that comes to mind for the neophilia, actually.
- 27:10I Hate Talking: Uh, before we talk about maybe a book that I will reread, and that is all the works by Jeff Vandermeer, who wrote the Southern Reach trilogy, again about alien life and some odd scientific things with people going through portals and odd things within nature that again are novel in our experience of nature, but almost normal within.
- 27:40I Hate Talking: How they were depicted within this particular work.
- 27:44I Hate Talking: And that actually was made into a feature length film with Natalie Portman called Annihilation.
- 27:51I Hate Talking: Have you watched that movie?
- 27:53I Hate Talking: I have, you'd have to.
- 27:54I Hate Talking: I don't remember it.
- 27:56I Hate Talking: Did I like it?
- 27:57I Hate Talking: No, you hated it.
- 27:58I Hate Talking: I think I may have been the only person that liked it.
- 28:01I Hate Talking: I think we went with your whole family, and I think, uh, everybody else hated it.
- 28:06I Hate Talking: Yeah, my family is much more like slapstick comedy.
- 28:11I Hate Talking: That doesn't sound like that.
- 28:13I Hate Talking: I love that I don't even remember this at all.
- 28:15I Hate Talking: When was it aired?
- 28:17I Hate Talking: It was from 2018.
- 28:19I Hate Talking: Weird.
- 28:21I Hate Talking: I believe you.
- 28:22I Hate Talking: Um, Our very first date, y'all, we met online and met in person and chatted for a while, and then like, what do you want to do?
- 28:35I Hate Talking: Like, well, we're right in front of a movie theater because we met at a mall.
- 28:39I Hate Talking: So after walking the mall, we went to the movies and I had to tell you on our very first date, I will fall asleep.
- 28:46I Hate Talking: because it was very late at night.
- 28:48I Hate Talking: I, I mean, late for me.
- 28:51I Hate Talking: Y'all, like 9 o'clock is late for me.
- 28:53I Hate Talking: But it was late for me and I knew that like, when I sit down, I'm gonna fall asleep.
- 28:58I Hate Talking: And I did.
- 28:59I Hate Talking: I fell asleep and on our first date, I'd tell you like, this is nothing to do with you.
- 29:03I Hate Talking: This is just, you know, I'm gonna fall asleep.
- 29:06I Hate Talking: And still to this day, it is so rare that I stay awake in a movie or show we watch.
- 29:11I Hate Talking: Yeah, annihilation.
- 29:13I Hate Talking: I don't remember it.
- 29:14I Hate Talking: Let me know if y'all have watched it, and if you enjoyed it.
- 29:18I Hate Talking: And to be fair, the book is far, far better than the movie was.
- 29:22I Hate Talking: It usually is.
- 29:24I Hate Talking: So going back to your question, as perhaps the final thing that we can discuss in this episode is books that I would reread.
- 29:33I Hate Talking: So there.
- 29:36I Hate Talking: There would be probably some nonfiction books that would fall within that category with, you know, either lifestyle type things with strategies like Joe Deenna's book with like Spartan or, you know, things of that nature where there's a particular Psychological aspects to.
- 29:56I Hate Talking: A nonfiction book or perhaps some of the books by Daniel H.
- 30:01I Hate Talking: Pink, like to sell as Human.
- 30:03I Hate Talking: And Books like that.
- 30:07I Hate Talking: I don't know if there's a lot of nonfiction books that would fall within that category.
- 30:12I Hate Talking: They the ones that I'm looking at in my library are going to be actually ones that sort of again fall within this category of neophilia where perhaps I'm going to reread them in an attempt to find even more novelty, so perhaps some of the Old science fiction by Arthur C.
- 30:33I Hate Talking: Clarke or some of the recent fiction.
- 30:37I Hate Talking: By Dennis E.
- 30:38I Hate Talking: Taylor, where they are building worlds within their books of fiction that are far different than the natural world that I find myself in.
- 30:50I Hate Talking: Hm.
- 30:51I Hate Talking: Yeah, for me.
- 30:54I Hate Talking: Either want something very novel.
- 30:57I Hate Talking: Or I want it.
- 31:00I Hate Talking: To be very comedic.
- 31:02I Hate Talking: So I guess perhaps our biggest insight from this conversation is that you enjoy the familiar in your entertainment and I enjoy the familiar in the real world and it will be interesting perhaps to contemplate that more in the future and consider how we might reconcile that or use that for our advantage.
- 31:25I Hate Talking: So from your friends that I hate talking until next time, remember it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understanding.
