Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: As Kate Fisher joins us from Washington, DC. Hellicate, Hello,
- 0:05Speaker 1: what's the latest with Luigi Mangioni.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Well, yeah, he has. He's in jail in Pennsylvania at
- 0:14Speaker 2: the moment. He has been charged in New York with
- 0:18Speaker 2: the assassination of the United Healthcare Insurance boss Brian Thompson,
- 0:24Speaker 2: but he has a fighting extradition. He appeared in court
- 0:28Speaker 2: yesterday in Pennsylvania and he refused to be extradited with
- 0:33Speaker 2: his giving his consent to do so, and so he
- 0:37Speaker 2: was denied bail, which means he remains in jail in
- 0:40Speaker 2: Pennsylvania while the legal ramifications are sorted out in trying
- 0:45Speaker 2: to get him extracited to New York. He's going to
- 0:49Speaker 2: be going, it's just going to take a lot longer
- 0:51Speaker 2: because he is refusing to cooperate. We have also found
- 0:56Speaker 2: out reporting here saying that a notebook was found on
- 0:59Speaker 2: him which in which he described or the notebook, the
- 1:02Speaker 2: writing in the notebook described going to a conference and
- 1:06Speaker 2: killing an executive quote, what do you do? You whack
- 1:09Speaker 2: the CEO at the annual parasitic being counter convention. It's targeted,
- 1:13Speaker 2: precise and doesn't risk innocence.
- 1:17Speaker 1: So the fact that the United Healthcare boss, and the
- 1:20Speaker 1: fact that he assassinated him. There wasn't any personal beef.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It was just because he exists.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Well, yeah, he's the fact he allegedly did so, yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 2: it's his manifesto. Police are suggesting, as it is, such
- 1:34Speaker 2: as it is, is that he was fed up with
- 1:37Speaker 2: corporate America and that he wanted to make an example of,
- 1:43Speaker 2: you know, of trying to make a statement, if you like,
- 1:46Speaker 2: by doing something that would bring down one of these
- 1:51Speaker 2: chief executives. It doesn't suggest in any of the writings
- 1:54Speaker 2: that has certainly been reported on so far, that there
- 1:57Speaker 2: was a personal issue with United Health. It was more
- 2:00Speaker 2: of a general issue with the whole of corporate America.
- 2:04Speaker 1: So mister Thompson was just in the wrong place at
- 2:06Speaker 1: the wrong time. It's a tragedy. It's a horrific crime.
- 2:08Speaker 1: We've got fires in Malibu and you know it's serious.
- 2:11Speaker 1: The celebrities are evacuating.
- 2:14Speaker 2: That's right. Dick Van Dyke, who was in of course
- 2:19Speaker 2: Mary Poppins and musicians share or among thousands of people
- 2:23Speaker 2: who've been told to leave their homes in Malibu after
- 2:26Speaker 2: this really fast moving wildfire broke out. It's burning acres
- 2:31Speaker 2: of this area, and it's a very wealthy area. Lots
- 2:34Speaker 2: of very rich people and stars lived there. Were also
- 2:39Speaker 2: told that people like Barbara Streisan, Jay Z, and Beyonce
- 2:43Speaker 2: Lady Gaga all have homes in the evacuation zone, although
- 2:46Speaker 2: we don't know whether they've been forced to leave or
- 2:48Speaker 2: even if they are in those homes at the moment.
- 2:52Speaker 2: But yeah, lots of residents having to leave, a vast
- 2:56Speaker 2: wave of California under fire, and this of course is
- 3:00Speaker 2: becoming a regular annual event in California.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, thank you so much, Kate Fisher out of Washington,
- 3:08Speaker 1: DC and those guys who are being evacuated. Also with
- 3:10Speaker 1: the news, jay Z, who's in diddy Gate right now,
- 3:13Speaker 1: and Beyonce, Dick Van Dyke who's starring in the latest
- 3:15Speaker 1: Cold Played video which is well worth the look, and
- 3:18Speaker 1: he's ninety nine, almost one hundred and Share who's just
- 3:20Speaker 1: written a new book. For more from Early Edition with
