- 0:05Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to the Spiritual Shit Show.
- 0:07Speaker 1: My name is Julie Nguyen and today we're going to be making sense of spiritual slang, one buzzword at a time.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I recently had a conversation with a family member and I wanted to clear up some things and hopefully we can get on the right path and fix some miscommunications etc.
- 0:24Speaker 1: And I was using my terminology, which is I just want to be able to name and I want us to be able to hold space, or I want to invite in our ability to work within the container, and my family member just looked at me like what the fuck are you talking about?
- 0:40Speaker 1: So that is kind of been the nudge to create this podcast, because it made me realize that a lot of these spiritual slang terms either A are overused and B, if you are using them, others may not know what the heck you're talking about.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So let's get right into it.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We're going to dive headfirst into terms like container, higher self nervous system, with a little bit of humor, hopefully, honesty and a healthy dose of curiosity.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Whether you're a seasoned soul seeker or a spiritual newbie, I am here to break it down for you today.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So let's get started.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I started my conversation with my family member with.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Okay, I want to be able to start the conversation and I just want to name.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And I got back wide eyes and then a blink.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I want to be able to name.
- 1:23Speaker 1: This is the spiritual version of labeling the vibes.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Naming something, whether it's an emotion, experience or pattern, it gives it a form and when you give it a form, it makes it easier to process, release, um, it can neutralize the energy or the tension that's around it, which obviously then allows space for something to heal or gain clarity.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I want to be able to name.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It's like giving permission to calling out the elephant in the room so you can figure out what it's doing there and why it's eating up all your snacks aka energy, aka mood, aka vibes.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So that is when you hear in spiritual spaces or therapeutic spaces, is there anything that anybody wants to name?
- 2:11Speaker 1: It's again just being able to say what is happening.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I want to be able to name that I'm feeling uncomfortable right now.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I want to be able to name that I am feeling a little anxious about this right now.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Or I just want to name that I respect you and I am feeling nervous about clearing up communication, but I am also very hopeful.
- 2:35Speaker 1: So, anyway, those are some examples on how to use that or how you might be hearing it.
- 2:40Speaker 1: The second thing is the container, and this is not a Tupperware for your leftovers, but it is the metaphorical space where transformation happens.
- 2:49Speaker 1: A container is the safe, intentional environment created for healing, growth, connection.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You can think of it as a spiritual bubble where you can spill your soul, cry, laugh, scream without any judgment.
- 3:02Speaker 1: And the container is created by all willing parties who are able to name their intentions for being there, and there is some sort of agreement with everybody who is entering the quote unquote container.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So it's pretty much just a space that is intentionally created for healing, growth, connection.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And the next thing that you're hearing a lot of lately, I am sure, is doing your shadow work.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Shadow work is the spiritual equivalent of cleaning out your emotional junk drawer.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Now, nobody wants to clean up the junk drawer, you want to keep it closed.
- 3:41Speaker 1: It's a junk drawer for a reason Nobody on the outside has to see it, but it definitely is something that is annoying and full of junk.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Doing your spiritual shadow work it's the practice of facing your inner shadows, the fears, the insecurities, the belief systems, the traits that you'd rather pretend didn't exist.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Doing shadow work is messy, uncomfortable, annoying and it's also so necessary for growth and evolution and happiness, and I think the best thing to do in life is to courageously say yes to pulling back these layers of who you are so you can really connect to the power of who you are and confidently say yes to the dreams and the passions and the purpose of what it is that you want to create experience, do live by in this journey.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So I am 100% behind somebody doing their shadow work, healing inner child.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So let's get into that.
- 4:46Speaker 1: What does inner child mean?
- 4:47Speaker 1: And you see this a lot on social media.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You know how to heal your inner child and why it's important, and healing your inner child means reconnecting with and nurturing this younger version of yourself.
- 5:00Speaker 1: It's the part that still holds on to emotions, memories, experiences from childhood, and it's about addressing unresolved wounds, unmet needs or traumas from your past that may still influence your present behavior, relationships, self worth, and in this I want to remind you that any type of healing, it is not linear, it is more like a spiral and it takes time.
- 5:27Speaker 1: It takes time.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Another thing that I say a lot and it might be annoying is my nervous system can't handle that, or I am really aware of my nervous system right now and this is a favorite phrase of the spiritually attuned who are very aware of their physical state.
- 5:43Speaker 1: It's the system, your nervous system is responsible for keeping you calm, cool or in a state of fight or flight, and, in spiritual terms, it often is referenced in discussions about healing, regulating emotions or why you're crying during yoga class, being aware of your nervous system.
- 6:06Speaker 1: And then this leads us into the woo woo, which is why I created spiritual shit show, because here we are, normalizing all things woo and understanding that life is magic and messy and encouraging you to tap in to the woo and see how it can uplift and level up your life.
- 6:27Speaker 1: The woo woo is the umbrella term for all things mystical, magical, and you know, sometimes people don't always buy into it.
- 6:35Speaker 1: The woo covers crystals and energy, healing and intuitive guides and past lives, and it's basically the stuff that skeptics love to roll their eyes at.
- 6:48Speaker 1: But for spiritual folks or those who are venturing into the woo or their healing journey or spiritual awakening quests, I promise you the woo woo works.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Can it be weird?
- 7:01Speaker 1: Yes, that's why I do a lot of my woo practices and the safety of my house.
- 7:06Speaker 1: But you know the, the breath work and the shaking and the healing and the tones and the chaos and the feelings of confusion and, like you're going insane.
- 7:19Speaker 1: This is all part of of healing and I have been doing my own healing work which feels like a lifetime.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm own healing work which feels like a lifetime.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm going to continue to do it for a lifetime, but really, really focused healing work for the past seven years and I am telling you I can see the change in myself, in my life.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I can see how I used to be so anxious and so it's just completely.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I'm completely different and I continue to work on being stronger and building my resilience and my wisdom and my courage every single day.
- 7:52Speaker 1: So, but I use these woo, woo tactics that help me to see my own light strengths and reminds me who I am and what I'm doing here.
- 8:04Speaker 1: And the woo has led me to energy and that leads us to what is energy?
- 8:11Speaker 1: It is not just the thing that powers your morning coffee buzz.
- 8:15Speaker 1: In spirituality, energy refers to the unseen vibes that flow through everything and everyone.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It's the universal currency of connection, healing, intuition, inner guidance, wisdom.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Everybody talks about energy.
- 8:33Speaker 1: You know, like the energy in the room was just off or I feel just drained.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I'm just energetically drained, I have nothing left to give.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And so there are, blending into the woo, these tools that we can either clear out our energy, uplift our energy, help us to keep us feeling really amazing and on point in our path.
- 8:57Speaker 1: You may also hear this word higher self.
- 9:00Speaker 1: You know, like I just placed my hand and on my high heart and I can listen to my higher self.
- 9:06Speaker 1: So what the heck does that mean?
- 9:07Speaker 1: The higher self is the personal, evolved aspect of your soul that exists beyond your physical body.
- 9:14Speaker 1: It's that wise, intuitive and fully aware version of you that knows your life purpose, lessons and spiritual goals.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Your higher self acts as your spiritual guide, offering insights.
- 9:30Speaker 1: This is your intuition and wisdom, and your higher self is what helps you navigate your human experience.
- 9:38Speaker 1: It's just like this higher version of self.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That's the part of you that isn't coming from fear, it's coming from truth, it's coming from trust, it's coming from you got this, let's do it, let's do it, let's do it.
- 9:52Speaker 1: And then I want to talk about, then, an over soul.
- 9:55Speaker 1: So what is an over soul?
- 9:57Speaker 1: So the over soul is this overarching collective essence of your soul across all lifetimes, dimensions and realities.
- 10:07Speaker 1: It contains the entirety of your soul's existence, its past, present and the possibilities of the future that you can really dance in.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And this can get into the woo, but the function of your over soul is that it connects all versions of you, your past lives, your future lives, your parallel lives, and it's the source of your soul's energy and the bridge between your individual experiences and that of the greater universe.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Now, that feels like that is a lot of stuff to kind of get your mind around.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Simply put, the higher self is the wise mentor for your current life and the oversoul is the cosmic archive of your soul's entire journey.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I did say I was going to say this in a really cheeky and funny way, but it feels more informative than funny.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Okay, so these spiritual words container, holding space, being able to name my, my higher self, my nervous system, these are all things actually that bring a different tone or invitation into life.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And also, to keep it on a cheeky side, I will tell you, when I am in healing spaces I turn into a crazy person.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I get really uncomfortable, I want to laugh, I want to make jokes.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I want to lighten the mood, so really, these are just some terms so you can get familiar with them in case anybody that is woo in your life is using them.
- 11:36Speaker 1: You know what they're talking about.
- 11:38Speaker 1: And also permission, given.
- 11:42Speaker 1: The whole point of this podcast is for you to tap in to what works for you, and may you do it in a very authentic, fun filled way that you live and I live my life as the unique spark of greatness that we are, and to remember that no one, ever, ever, ever, is going to be you, is going to be me, and this is the journey that we are on, so let's make it great.
