- Forged In The Dark: You know that thing on your to-do list that was a priority a while ago and you can't seem to force yourself to do? Or that pattern that you keep repeating and repeating and repeating? Well, what if I told you it might not be your fault? It might be a limiting belief that lives deep in your subconscious mind. Welcome to Forged in the Dark. I'm your host, Jamie. Let's dig in. Now there was a time that I was a completely different version of myself. I was sad, I was sick, I was stuck, I faced so many hard things, and each hard thing came with their own unique challenges. But it would take me years to uncover a mountain of limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs like I'm not enough. It's not safe to be seen. Ooh, ooh, here's a big one. I am I even lovable? And if any of those made you go, ooh, ooh, or you inserted yours, you know exactly what I'm talking about. This has nothing to do with willpower. This has nothing to do with motivation and everything to do with your belief system. Now, our belief systems, or at least by way of our worldview, are determined by the time we're around the age of seven. So, as little kids, we determine what we believe about the world. But when it comes to limiting beliefs they're not limited to early childhood development they can develop at any time in your life And this one might seem a little far out there, but let's just say you insert a new person into your life, and they just happen to be an incredibly negative person, and you start to spend a lot of time with them, and then you start to adopt their patterns, their behaviors, their belief system, and then All you have to do is repeat it over and over and over, and you've just developed a new limiting belief. You can have any traumatic experience and develop a new limiting belief. But the beautiful thing here is the same way we develop limiting beliefs, we can develop unlimited beliefs. Now, I want to talk about the the neural network in your brain for just a moment. And I want to paint a picture of a cornfield. So take a moment if you need to and get that picture of a cornfield in your mind's eye or in your head. for me as a child there was a cornfield near my grandparents' house and You could look at the cornfields and see where people had cut across And of course, as kids, we did it all the time. Because if we cut across that cornfield, we were to our friend's house fast. If we had to walk around the cornfield, it would take about 30 minutes. So we were always about finding those smooth paths and hightailing it. But that's exactly how your brain works. Your brain will always jump to the well-worn path first, automatically. So you're standing at the edge of the cornfield, and you can see, you can see the well-worn path, and you know. That by taking that path, you are going to get to where you want to go faster. But this is where I want you to stop and ask yourself: what path are you traveling? What neural network are you hopping to the most frequently? And the most important question here: is it a positive? Neural network or a negative neural network? Is this neural network full of possibility and unlimited beliefs? Or is this the neural network that takes you directly to The negative thoughts, the I mean, this this road will take you all the way to the dark, truisty place if you if you ride it ride it long enough. But What it takes to create a new neural network in your brain is similar to what it takes to create a new path through the cornfield. Imagine it, you're on the edge of the cornfield. You are you are pushing the stalks to the side, you're stomping them down, maybe you even have a machete, and you're just just chopping down these these stalks, these corn stalks, and and you're stomping down a new path. Congratulations, you have just taken the hard way. Which is the right way? You are going to have you're going to have stocks of corn come back and smack you in the head. You are going to get scraped up. You're gonna get bruised, you might fall down. You are going to need to work on this path every day for weeks, for months, maybe for Years because that other neural network, that nice smooth path through the cornfield, let's just say for a moment, that is not a neural network that you want to continue to strengthen. That is the limited beliefs, that is the negative self-talk, that is the path to the dark, twisty place. You don't want anything to do with it, but you don't take it away. You can't take it away. Your job is to identify what your actual limiting beliefs are and get busy creating the new neural network to support who you are becoming versus who you've been. All change requires time, patience, and repetition. You are going to put in hundreds or thousands of reps on your own without an audience, without a cheering section. And sometimes the work will be working and it'll get a little easier to cut down those corn stalks, and the path will get a little smoother. And then you might find yourself back at the edge of the cornfield looking for the path you just started. It's all part of it. But when it comes to your belief system. When I tell you it might not be your fault, it might not. It does not mean that you will not have to face negative repercussions if you behave poorly because of them. It doesn't remove the responsibility for your behavior, behavior, but it might not be your fault. If you have ever looked at yourself in the mirror and said, what's wrong with me? Why can't I figure this out? Why can't I do this? I know that I'm capable. I know this is what I want. But what is actually stopping me? your awareness is there. That's number one. You have to be aware. It's just like anything. You have to be aware enough to acknowledge what it is. You have to be willing to dig deeper and get to the deeper levels of why that belief is there to begin with. It is now your responsibility to do something different. It is your choice now. You can't know what you don't know until you do, but once you do, it becomes your responsibility to do something different. If there is a limiting belief that lives inside of you, more than likely it's not your fault. You didn't do anything wrong. But now that you know it's there, it's your job to do something different. Put in the reps, do the work, cut. Down those corn stalks and start traveling the neural network. Start traveling the path of where you're going versus where you've been. Okay, that's what I have for you today. Until next time.
