Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: He's Mr. New York, Mark Simone, on 710WOR. Well, Liz Peek,
- 0:07Speaker 1: the brilliant columnist. You can read her columns, foxnews.com, thehill.com.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Even better, go to her website. She's got her columns
- 0:14Speaker 1: and all kinds of great stories up there, lizpeek.com, lizpeek.com.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Liz Peek, how you doing?
- 0:22Speaker 2: I'm terrific. Thanks for having me on, Mark.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Well, I know how you're doing. I just saw you
- 0:27Speaker 1: last night. The Kudlow Show was great.
- 0:29Speaker 2: That's right.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Uh, we were talking about the debate on this. So, uh,
- 0:33Speaker 1: tell everybody what you thought about the gubernatorial debate.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Uh, look, I think the more Kathy Hochul has to
- 0:40Speaker 3: actually faced the voting public, uh, the better it is
- 0:44Speaker 3: for everybody, including Bruce Blakeman, because she has absolutely nothing
- 0:50Speaker 3: to run on. Uh, supposedly Democrats care a lot about affordability.
- 0:55Speaker 3: New York is one of the most unaffordable places on
- 0:58Speaker 3: the face of the planet actually. with building costs, as
- 1:02Speaker 3: an example, the highest anywhere in the world, which is
- 1:05Speaker 3: pretty staggering, right?
- 1:07Speaker 2: And why is that?
- 1:08Speaker 3: Because Democrats have ladled all kinds of regulations on small businesses,
- 1:13Speaker 3: on contractors, on getting building permits, you name it.
- 1:17Speaker 2: There's a red tape attached to it. And also high taxes.
- 1:21Speaker 3: People kind of, you know, are just blanking mentally on
- 1:25Speaker 3: the idea that every time Kathy Hochul or Zoran Mamdani raises,
- 1:30Speaker 3: taxes on the voting public, they pay more for everything
- 1:35Speaker 3: because whoever is paying that higher taxes, your grocery store,
- 1:40Speaker 3: your delivery guy, whatever, they pass it right along to
- 1:43Speaker 3: the consumer. And so, you know, the idea that Kathy
- 1:47Speaker 3: Hochul is going to do a better job of bringing
- 1:49Speaker 3: prices down or under control than Bruce Blakeman, forget it.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I mean, he has much better instincts on all kinds
- 1:57Speaker 3: of issues, including, by the way, how to manage ICE,
- 2:01Speaker 3: illegal immigrants being in our country, committing crimes, et cetera.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Kathy Hochul is basically going to lie down in front
- 2:09Speaker 3: of Mamdani and the far left and do whatever they want,
- 2:13Speaker 3: including raising taxes more on struggling New Yorkers in the
- 2:18Speaker 3: coming years. And you can just absolutely bank that.
- 2:21Speaker 2: It's going to happen. So I want Bruce Blakeman out
- 2:25Speaker 2: there more. I want him making the case against....
- 2:29Speaker 3: Against Kathy Hochul. And I think he made a good
- 2:32Speaker 3: start on that in the debate. Yeah.
- 2:34Speaker 1: You know how the government stepped in and they made
- 2:36Speaker 1: everybody list their ingredients, you know, what's in the Starbucks
- 2:40Speaker 1: drink or what's the, oh, you have to list the ingredients.
- 2:42Speaker 1: If they would do this, they'll never pass this, but
- 2:44Speaker 1: if they would do this for gas prices, electric bills,
- 2:47Speaker 1: if people saw where the money is going for that
- 2:51Speaker 1: $ 4. 50 a gallon, I don't think they realize that 75
- 2:53Speaker 1: cents goes to the state in taxes and Even your
- 2:57Speaker 1: electric bill, like 50% of it is government taxes and fees.
- 3:00Speaker 1: People don't know that.
- 3:03Speaker 2: They don't know it.
- 3:03Speaker 3: They don't understand that Democrats are basically waging, even today,
- 3:07Speaker 3: an ongoing war against fossil fuels. But what's so stupid, Mark,
- 3:13Speaker 3: is they, yes, you're right, state and local taxes on gasoline,
- 3:19Speaker 3: for example, are enormous. In California, I think it's 70
- 3:22Speaker 3: cents a gallon, something like that. But What they've tried
- 3:26Speaker 3: to do is push everyone to electricity. But of course,
- 3:29Speaker 3: they've also made electricity incredibly expensive. And a lot of
- 3:32Speaker 3: that is, as you say, taxes and other fees that apply.
- 3:36Speaker 3: So if you really want to tilt the balance in
- 3:39Speaker 3: favor of electricity, number one, make sure you have the
- 3:42Speaker 3: feedstock to create electricity.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It doesn't come from lightning.
- 3:46Speaker 3: It actually has to be produced in a power plant somewhere.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Don't shut down Indian Point nuclear power plant, which was
- 3:55Speaker 3: one of the dumbest things that Andrew Cuomo did. Don't
- 4:00Speaker 3: make it impossible to frack for natural gas. Natural gas
- 4:03Speaker 3: is a fantastically clean and abundant and cheap feedstock for
- 4:08Speaker 3: electricity production. And yet, basically, Kathy Hochul and her predecessor
- 4:13Speaker 3: has made it wildly unaffordable and unattainable in New York.
- 4:18Speaker 3: So Look, I think literally she has done everything wrong
- 4:22Speaker 3: and it's only going to get worse. And at the
- 4:24Speaker 3: end of the day, as we discussed yesterday on Kudlow's show,
- 4:29Speaker 3: end of day, why are people leaving New York?
- 4:32Speaker 2: End of discussion, right?
- 4:34Speaker 3: Businesses, people flocking to Florida and to Texas because life
- 4:39Speaker 3: in New York is unaffordable. And so, you know, let
- 4:43Speaker 3: her explain that. That has nothing to do, by the way,
- 4:46Speaker 3: with Donald Trump waging war in Iran, which has driven
- 4:50Speaker 3: oil prices higher. Electricity and energy costs in New York
- 4:55Speaker 3: have been higher than the nation's average right now, about 60%
- 4:59Speaker 3: higher for decades, or at least a decade.
- 5:03Speaker 2: And a half.
- 5:04Speaker 3: It is not new. So it has nothing to do
- 5:06Speaker 3: with Donald Trump. It has everything to do with the
- 5:08Speaker 3: Democrats in charge of this state.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, Liz Peek, you should check out her website, lizpeek.com.
- 5:13Speaker 1: You've written about this. If you watch CNN or MSNOW,
- 5:17Speaker 1: all they're talking about is this blue wave that's going
- 5:19Speaker 1: to take over. How much of that is a fantasy
- 5:23Speaker 1: with the Democrats?
- 5:24Speaker 3: Well, look, the more they talk about it, just remind yourself,
- 5:27Speaker 3: the more they talk about it, the more voters get
- 5:29Speaker 3: discouraged and say, ah, you know, Bruce Blakeman doesn't have
- 5:32Speaker 3: a shot. Kathy Hochul's going to win. Why do I
- 5:35Speaker 3: even bother to vote? That's what they're hoping for. So
- 5:38Speaker 3: this negativity, about Republican chances in the midterms and the
- 5:44Speaker 3: blue wave drowning all the Republican candidates, take it with
- 5:49Speaker 3: a grain of salt because the polls, the media headlines,
- 5:52Speaker 3: everything is primed to keep you at home, keep you
- 5:56Speaker 3: from voting, keep you from giving money to a candidate.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Don't listen to it. Just drown it out.
- 6:02Speaker 3: You gotta go vote because otherwise you have absolutely no
- 6:05Speaker 3: right to complain about what goes on in your city
- 6:08Speaker 3: and state. Yeah.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Being honest, the Republicans, as far as messaging, as far
- 6:16Speaker 1: as marketing, what should they have done differently from the
- 6:20Speaker 1: beginning of the year to now?
- 6:22Speaker 3: I tell you what, Mark, how much time do we have?
- 6:28Speaker 3: The lack of a message is appalling.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Why?
- 6:31Speaker 3: Because, you know, look at an op-ed that Jerry Baker
- 6:35Speaker 3: wrote recently in the Wall Street Journal. Jerry Baker is
- 6:37Speaker 3: no fan of Republicans, certainly of Donald Trump. Not a
- 6:41Speaker 3: big partisan guy, I don't think. But he listed all
- 6:44Speaker 3: the things that are going right in the economy. Where
- 6:46Speaker 3: have you heard that? Nowhere. No one's talking about the
- 6:49Speaker 3: fact that unemployment claims are extremely low, that real incomes
- 6:53Speaker 3: are still up. Even with inflation, $ 2, 000 during Trump's presidency,
- 6:59Speaker 3: they went down under Joe Biden. I could list 10
- 7:03Speaker 3: things that Republicans should be out there talking about on
- 7:06Speaker 3: the stump, including unemployment. No taxes on tips, no taxes
- 7:10Speaker 3: on overtime, things that are very popular. But they are
- 7:14Speaker 3: so scared of their shadows, these Republican candidates. They're so
- 7:18Speaker 3: scared someone's going to say, well, you just care about.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Tax cuts for the wealthy. Holy crow.
- 7:24Speaker 3: These tax cuts in 2017, and again, in the big,
- 7:27Speaker 3: beautiful bill, they were primed to middle income Americans. And
- 7:32Speaker 3: middle income Americans, I think, know that. But unless you
- 7:35Speaker 3: have a politician saying, hey, we delivered that. And by
- 7:39Speaker 3: the way, my opponent wants to reverse that. Remember, Kamala
- 7:43Speaker 3: Harris actually campaigned on reversing the 2017 tax cuts, which
- 7:50Speaker 3: I always thought was one of the most unbelievably dumb
- 7:52Speaker 3: things she did. And that's a very high bar. You know,
- 7:57Speaker 3: it's just kind of amazing. They can't prosecute the case.
- 8:01Speaker 2: You and I can. What's wrong with that?
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yeah. On the other hand, though, if they had the
- 8:05Speaker 1: case and the right message, where are they going to
- 8:08Speaker 1: get it out? 90% of the media will never ever
- 8:11Speaker 1: broadcast it.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Well, look, social media is huge.
- 8:15Speaker 3: We've seen with Mamdani that, guess what?
- 8:18Speaker 2: You actually have to You have to kind of use
- 8:22Speaker 2: the tools of today.
- 8:24Speaker 3: An extraordinary number of people are getting their news from
- 8:27Speaker 3: social media, not from the newspapers, not from television news programs.
- 8:32Speaker 3: They go on to X or they go on to
- 8:35Speaker 3: TikTok and they believe what they read, which is really
- 8:38Speaker 3: frightening because you and I both know there's a whole
- 8:41Speaker 3: lot of stuff on all those platforms that's just simply
- 8:44Speaker 3: made up. But the reality is you can wage this
- 8:48Speaker 3: war not only in person, and the candidates who do
- 8:52Speaker 3: best are going out there every day making their case
- 8:55Speaker 3: to voters, but also on social media and, look, on
- 8:59Speaker 3: radio programs like yours.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Yeah. That's a good point. Yeah, Radio Hacks, believe it
- 9:06Speaker 1: or not, has a lot more listeners than TV has
- 9:09Speaker 1: viewers right now. That's right. In today's world. Well, Liz Peek,
- 9:12Speaker 1: great stuff. Everybody check out her website, LizPeek.com. There's not
- 9:18Speaker 1: only her columns, but great stories up there every day. LizPeak.com.
- 9:22Speaker 1: And you can read her columns, FoxNews.com, TheHill.com. Liz Peak,
- 9:28Speaker 1: thanks for being with us.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Thank you for having me. Don't get discouraged, Mark. You
- 9:32Speaker 3: sound discouraged. Look, there's still three weeks. We've got to
- 9:36Speaker 3: prosecute the case.
- 9:37Speaker 1: All right. You're right. Right attitude.
- 9:39Speaker 2: All right.
- 9:40Speaker 3: All right.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Thanks for being with us.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Take care.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Take care. I'm not discouraged. It's just that it's a
- 9:46Speaker 1: three-hour show now. Three hours every day. I'm not used
- 9:49Speaker 1: to this. The third hour, I'm like, drag it a little. No,
- 9:53Speaker 1: I'm not discouraged. Hey, don't forget Buck and Clay. You've
- 9:56Speaker 1: got to listen to them every day, noon to 3.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Great show. And then 3 o'clock, you've got the most
- 10:02Speaker 1: listened to radio show in America, Sean Hannity. 3 o'clock,
- 10:06Speaker 1: you've got Jesse Kelly. Big show at 6 o'clock. Then
- 10:10Speaker 1: 9 o'clock, you've got the great Jimmy Fallon. Very funny
- 10:14Speaker 1: show every night, 9 to midnight. Don't forget, I'm three
- 10:17Speaker 1: hours now. 9 a.m. till noon, three hours, nine to noon.
- 10:21Speaker 1: And of course, before me, from six to nine, it's
- 10:25Speaker 1: Curtis Lewa, Larry Menti, here on 710WOR.
