- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi everyone, and welcome to another edition of the Yukon
- 0:02Speaker 1: Women's Basketball Coaches Show. Bob Joyce gino Oriama Currently later
- 0:06Speaker 1: on we'll have one of his players as our guest
- 0:09Speaker 1: in the last couple of segments of the show. And
- 0:11Speaker 1: the Huskies are coming off not only a successful run
- 0:14Speaker 1: in the Bahamas, but it went over Holy Cross on Tuesday,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and I guess look, the end result is pretty much
- 0:21Speaker 1: what we expected. How you got there Tuesday night, though,
- 0:25Speaker 1: was a different story. And this is not uncommon. You
- 0:28Speaker 1: come off a trip where you're away for a long
- 0:31Speaker 1: period of time and you were gone for a week
- 0:33Speaker 1: in the Bahamas in the first half. Can give credit
- 0:36Speaker 1: where credits due. I thought holy Cross got after it
- 0:39Speaker 1: in the first half, and you even said that at
- 0:41Speaker 1: halftime talking to Chelsea on sn Y. But it took
- 0:44Speaker 1: a half to get going.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we kind of felt it. You know, maybe
- 0:56Speaker 2: if we have played them, you know, we got back Saturday,
- 0:58Speaker 2: if we have played them Sunday, maybe would have been okay.
- 1:02Speaker 2: You know, I think it hits you a few days
- 1:06Speaker 2: after you get back. So I saw it somewhat. I
- 1:13Speaker 2: saw it coming. And with holy Cross, you know, they
- 1:21Speaker 2: are very patient, so they make you frustrate a little
- 1:24Speaker 2: bit because how patient they are. Then they make shots.
- 1:29Speaker 2: You know, one kid was shooting seventeen percent from the
- 1:32Speaker 2: three point line or something made, or first two. You know,
- 1:37Speaker 2: things that things that you know, you know are going
- 1:39Speaker 2: to happen. But I just you know, I just know that.
- 1:45Speaker 2: As I said, you know after the game, we just
- 1:49Speaker 2: had these periods where it's, yeah, there there just isn't
- 2:00Speaker 2: There isn't enough of a leadership being exerted. I think
- 2:07Speaker 2: we have a kind of a laid back team, you
- 2:11Speaker 2: know that kind of if things are going great, they're
- 2:14Speaker 2: going great. If they're not going great, okay, you know
- 2:17Speaker 2: they're not going great, and there isn't this urgency to
- 2:20Speaker 2: you know, to get get out of it. We just
- 2:23Speaker 2: kind of like wait for it to end and then
- 2:25Speaker 2: we like we did against Ole Miss. You know, we
- 2:27Speaker 2: come out in the third quarter and you know, they
- 2:29Speaker 2: go on a run and where does that go. Okay, well,
- 2:31Speaker 2: let's let them finish their run and then we'll get back.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You know, it's not anything I can do about it
- 2:38Speaker 2: right now, but you know that's a part of our
- 2:42Speaker 2: team right now, and little by little I hope we
- 2:45Speaker 2: grow out of it, but right now, you know, and
- 2:52Speaker 2: I won't be surprised if it's the same way on Saturday, you're.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Taking a Louisville team down at the Barclay Center, which
- 2:58Speaker 1: we'll talk about later.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Run.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I thought Morgan Shelley gave you some really good minutes
- 3:03Speaker 1: off the bench. Among the many that did, I mean
- 3:05Speaker 1: everyone had double figure minutes with the exception of Ali
- 3:09Speaker 1: and Cadence, but Morgan gave us almost eighteen minutes, not
- 3:12Speaker 1: only scored the ball well with eight season high for
- 3:15Speaker 1: her couple of assists, she had a steal, and she
- 3:18Speaker 1: really gave you some quality minutes in the game among many.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, she did, and she's capable of doing that.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I think she's got a skill set where she helps
- 3:36Speaker 2: you in various ways. When she touches the ball, she's
- 3:43Speaker 2: pretty comfortable with it, whether it's in the lane, on
- 3:47Speaker 2: the perimeter. She's confident in her shot. You know, she's
- 3:53Speaker 2: active on the boards, so you know she can earn
- 3:59Speaker 2: herself those kinds of minutes. You know, she continues to
- 4:04Speaker 2: practice well, and that's that's a great sign because you know,
- 4:10Speaker 2: our our debt has it has a chance to be
- 4:14Speaker 2: one of our strengths. You know, you know, you're looking
- 4:19Speaker 2: at two starters from last year that could be starters
- 4:23Speaker 2: right now, and you know no one would be be surprised. So,
- 4:28Speaker 2: uh yeah, we need to get something out of for
- 4:34Speaker 2: our bench from either Jenna or Morgan. Every night. One
- 4:39Speaker 2: of those two has to come through. If they both do,
- 4:41Speaker 2: then I think that's trendous. Right.
- 4:43Speaker 1: You mentioned Ashland and KK. It seems like KK has
- 4:48Speaker 1: fit into a role well. She was more aggressive offensively
- 4:52Speaker 1: on Tuesday night. But is Ashland still trying to figure
- 4:55Speaker 1: out her role now that she's coming off the bench now,
- 4:58Speaker 1: or or you know, there was a quick cook first
- 5:02Speaker 1: half but then the immediately put her back in to
- 5:04Speaker 1: start the second quarter. Is she still trying to find
- 5:06Speaker 1: her way with the new role with the depth that
- 5:08Speaker 1: you have now.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I don't think so. I mean, whether she's starting or
- 5:15Speaker 2: coming off the bench, smacking somebody who's taking a jump
- 5:18Speaker 2: shot in the first minute of the game is probably
- 5:22Speaker 2: a good way to get your butt on the bench.
- 5:25Speaker 2: You know, we've been harping and harping and harping about
- 5:28Speaker 2: our fouling shooters, which is just an immortal sin in
- 5:33Speaker 2: basketball that you foul someone taking a jump shot. And
- 5:39Speaker 2: last year I would have just screamed and yelled, but
- 5:42Speaker 2: I can't take her out This year, I think all
- 5:46Speaker 2: these kids, not just ash, they're finding out they better
- 5:52Speaker 2: be solid, and they better be disciplined, and they better
- 5:55Speaker 2: do it exactly the way we want it done because
- 5:57Speaker 2: we have options now. So her role is the same
- 6:00Speaker 2: as it was last year. It's just and starts. Instead
- 6:04Speaker 2: of starting the game, you come off the bench, and
- 6:06Speaker 2: what are you gonna do, well, the same thing you
- 6:07Speaker 2: did as a starter. You gotta play hard, you gotta compete,
- 6:10Speaker 2: you gotta you know, make open shots. You know, nothing's changed,
- 6:17Speaker 2: it's just rather than starting the game, you're you're you're
- 6:22Speaker 2: gonna have to wait a couple of minutes and then
- 6:24Speaker 2: you go out and you do the same thing you
- 6:25Speaker 2: would if you were a starter. And and KK I
- 6:28Speaker 2: think was non existing in the first half and play
- 6:31Speaker 2: great in the second half. So you know, I think
- 6:35Speaker 2: that the more that they do those things, the better
- 6:39Speaker 2: they're gonna they're gonna the more they they they do
- 6:44Speaker 2: those things, the more they're gonna contribute, and the more
- 6:46Speaker 2: they're gonna play.
- 6:47Speaker 1: All right more with Gino coming up, thanks for joining us.
- 6:49Speaker 1: It's the U kind of women's basketball coaches show here
- 6:52Speaker 1: on Learfield, stay with us.
