- 0:38SPEAKER_00: It's a wonderful life has been my favorite movie since I was a kid.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: It tells the story of George Bailey, a young man with big plans who never gets to leave the small town of Bedford Falls.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: He's too busy taking care of others to pursue his dreams.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Over the years we see George become frustrated and irritable.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Day after day he slaves away at the building alone, a small company his father created.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: George feels responsible for keeping it going even years after his father's death.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: The second half of the movie features an alternative timeline where George gets to see what Bedford Falls would have been like if he had never been born.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: He comes to understand that even though he never chased his own dreams, he still made a great impact on many people's lives.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: It's a wonderful life is a feel-good movie because it reminds us that we need to help others.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And sometimes we need their help as well.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: But here's a question.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: What might have happened if George Bailey had actually left Bedford Falls?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: What might have happened if George had taken a risk, ignored other people's expectations, and created a life he had always dreamed about?
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: What might have happened if George realized that he could potentially impact many more lives than just the people of Bedford Falls?
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: What might have happened if George understood that he wasn't responsible for carrying on the family business?
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: That he shouldn't be confined to living in his father's shadow, that he had his own life to live, with his own dreams and his own ambitions.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: What might have happened if George had realized that he had been given those hopes, dreams, and talents for a reason?
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: You know, sometimes we don't take a risk and pursue our dreams because we're afraid of what other people might think.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: We're afraid we're going to disappoint them.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: We're afraid that they're going to think we're unrealistic or possibly even crazy.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: As artists, we deal with all these emotions and more.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: We don't create because we're afraid, we're unsure, and we just want to fit in with everybody else.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: But the trouble is that everybody else is busy living their lives in Bedford Falls.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: They're waiting for somebody else to take the lead.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: They're waiting for somebody else to show the way, to buck the trends, and to do what's unexpected.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: What's that project that you want to finish?
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Is it a book, a blog, a podcast, an article?
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Whatever it is, make your plans and take action.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Is there a new habit you want to establish?
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe something like getting healthy, losing weight, creating a writing routine, learning a new instrument?
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Let's make a deal together.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Let's make 2019 the year that we dream bigger dreams and take bolder actions.
