Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. It kind of feels like training
- 0:19Speaker 1: camp when you're going all day, going from here to there,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and there's always someone talking except Ryan Baldinger. It's a
- 0:24Speaker 1: little bit different. They're not thirty two teams. It's only
- 0:26Speaker 1: four teams. You're down to our final four, down to
- 0:29Speaker 1: our championship pairents. And today is Championship Wednesday on NFL Network.
- 0:35Speaker 1: From our newsroom in Los Angeles, my name is Andrew Ceciliano.
- 0:37Speaker 1: This is the world's most interesting former offensive line. Oh
- 0:41Speaker 1: thank you, Andrew. But it is Championship Wednsday, and the
- 0:43Speaker 1: attention is on the players, on injuries, on the four
- 0:48Speaker 1: that are standing. And I believe that we've got the
- 0:50Speaker 1: best four standing. So I think we're all going to
- 0:52Speaker 1: be excited for Sunday. All four teams in the podiums
- 0:55Speaker 1: has mentioned. We've already heard from Brandon Graham and Nick
- 0:57Speaker 1: Sirianni in Philadelphia. Coming up this hour, we'll also here
- 1:00Speaker 1: from Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. We'll find out about
- 1:03Speaker 1: the ankle. We'll also here from Jaylen Hurts coming up
- 1:05Speaker 1: in just a matter of seconds before we get back
- 1:09Speaker 1: to Philadelphia and Jalen Hurts. We also today on g
- 1:13Speaker 1: MFB unveiled the names the nominees for the big awards
- 1:18Speaker 1: on NFL Honors. Offensive Player of the Year has Jalen
- 1:21Speaker 1: Hurts under consideration. He is also up for m v
- 1:24Speaker 1: P O p O Y, with Tyreek Hill, Patrick Mahomes
- 1:29Speaker 1: on that list as well and Justin Jefferson and then
- 1:32Speaker 1: d P O I. I mean, I don't know how
- 1:34Speaker 1: you choose a winner here. I'd vote right, but you're
- 1:38Speaker 1: Micah Parsons Exo Baldy breakdown on Sunday was ridiculous. Yeah,
- 1:42Speaker 1: well my Bosa one would upgro upbload to Twitter. Uh,
- 1:46Speaker 1: you might see some of Nick Bosa when he's not
- 1:48Speaker 1: sacking a quarterback Baldy breakdown that is waiting in his drafts.
- 1:52Speaker 1: You should keep refreshing your Twitter to see said break down.
- 1:56Speaker 1: And in the meantime, remember that Kelly Clarkson's going to
- 1:58Speaker 1: be hosting NFL Honors with all the Awards on Thursday,
- 2:01Speaker 1: February ninth on NFL Network on NBC on the p
- 2:05Speaker 1: Cock all the Awards. Maybe some hardware for Jalen Hurts.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Maybe he's going maybe he's prepping for the super Bowl.
- 2:11Speaker 1: We're live with him. UM, I didn't know. UM, you know,
- 2:21Speaker 1: put the work in. UM, I think it's it's it's
- 2:23Speaker 1: a cool one. UM. I don't really have much much
- 2:27Speaker 1: to said, but I don't know. I'm lots of words
- 2:29Speaker 1: for it, to be honest. He was there, There was
- 2:32Speaker 1: a lot of talks you would rock early met in
- 2:36Speaker 1: college when you were over game forty two forty one.
- 2:40Speaker 1: You have been memories of that game and how it
- 2:43Speaker 1: kind of unfolded. Yeah, we uh, you know obviously two
- 2:49Speaker 1: different teams, two different times. UM. I remember getting out early,
- 2:55Speaker 1: you know, getting out early and then at like five
- 2:59Speaker 1: touchdowns in the first half and then um, thing was
- 3:04Speaker 1: like the thirty fourteen that half time or something like that,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and then end up coming back Kennedy Brooks made a
- 3:12Speaker 1: real good run, made like forty two something. Um. But yeah,
- 3:16Speaker 1: it's a it's a good game. Glad one word. UM,
- 3:29Speaker 1: I don't know. UM, you know, I think I think
- 3:33Speaker 1: I just have to desire to to to win. I
- 3:36Speaker 1: think I have a desire to win. UM, I put
- 3:40Speaker 1: the work in for it. UM, try and be diligent
- 3:45Speaker 1: with everything, trying to be the best teammate leader that
- 3:48Speaker 1: I can be and ultimately try and set set the
- 3:51Speaker 1: pace UM, and and set the temperature of the room,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know. And you know, I think the thing about
- 3:57Speaker 1: leadership I said all the time is people leave because
- 3:59Speaker 1: their peers let them lead. And you know that takes
- 4:03Speaker 1: a lot of hard work, that takes a lot of sacrifice, UM,
- 4:06Speaker 1: it takes a lot of trust, and ultimately all those
- 4:09Speaker 1: things bring respect, you know. And I think as a team,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you know, we just come a very long way. And
- 4:16Speaker 1: the beautiful, beautiful thing about everything is that we've continued
- 4:19Speaker 1: to just try and climb UM. I tell him all
- 4:22Speaker 1: the time, I said, there there's no point where you
- 4:24Speaker 1: will arrived. There's only the journey, and we just want
- 4:27Speaker 1: to continue to live on that journey, but definitely trying
- 4:31Speaker 1: to take steps in the right direction, making UM daily
- 4:35Speaker 1: deposits in UM, putting the work in every day Stan
- 4:38Speaker 1: and true to ourselves and our process. Do you even
- 4:41Speaker 1: think about how far you've come personally over the last
- 4:44Speaker 1: couple of years or was that not really your nature
- 4:46Speaker 1: to look back like that. Yeah, it's not the time
- 4:49Speaker 1: for me to reflect on that, because I'm not done.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Do you have any did you know pro pretty before
- 4:55Speaker 1: that game when you guys played on with State and
- 4:58Speaker 1: and also what we're your impressions after watching him that day. Yeah, No,
- 5:01Speaker 1: I have a I have a lot of respect for him.
- 5:03Speaker 1: He's he's always been a a really good player, has
- 5:06Speaker 1: a lot of moxie. He makes plays, um, and he's
- 5:10Speaker 1: been doing that since college. So there's no surprise to
- 5:12Speaker 1: him when he was giving this opportunity to see the
- 5:14Speaker 1: success he's having. Now everybody, Um, everybody knows what's at
- 5:19Speaker 1: stake at this game. One more when you're in the
- 5:20Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Um, that has become more challenging to keep
- 5:23Speaker 1: that day to day focus at this stage. Yeah, I think, um,
- 5:29Speaker 1: you know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I think it depends on the person. I think we're
- 5:33Speaker 1: trying to stay focused on what's important, you know, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: that's just you know, truly enjoying the moment, enjoying enjoying
- 5:39Speaker 1: an attacking the process in front of us this weekend,
- 5:42Speaker 1: taking the day by day. So you kind of want
- 5:45Speaker 1: to never get too how I never get too low
- 5:47Speaker 1: with it. Ross many of different statistics, that's a top
- 5:51Speaker 1: top defense in the fourty niners. What stands out like er, Yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 1: they I mean, they they're they're really good all across
- 5:58Speaker 1: the board, you know, and I think starts off with
- 6:01Speaker 1: the front seven and and then having a really good
- 6:04Speaker 1: deep it's a bad group. Um. They fly to the ball,
- 6:08Speaker 1: They're disruptive at every position. Um. They they're world coach.
- 6:13Speaker 1: They're world coach. So we have a task in front
- 6:16Speaker 1: of us. We have a really good challenge, really big
- 6:18Speaker 1: challenge in front of us, and as always, we just
- 6:21Speaker 1: want to go out there and execute, you know, trying
- 6:24Speaker 1: to befficient to your work ethic. How important to your
- 6:27Speaker 1: development and successes have been having an offensive staff. But
- 6:30Speaker 1: like you know, a Davits verse kisell, Um, Yeah, I
- 6:35Speaker 1: think I think it's kind of always been that way
- 6:38Speaker 1: throughout the years. Um. I think it's always kind of
- 6:43Speaker 1: been that way throughout the years because Um, ultimately, the
- 6:47Speaker 1: way I play the game is always taken over regardless
- 6:49Speaker 1: of how the coach calls the game or what this
- 6:53Speaker 1: background is or whatever it is. You know. So I
- 6:56Speaker 1: think for us to have time and have had time
- 7:00Speaker 1: to grow together being here, this being my first time
- 7:04Speaker 1: having to back play college in it in consecutive years. Um,
- 7:09Speaker 1: you know, I think that has allowed us to build
- 7:12Speaker 1: a relationship one another and kind of learn the game
- 7:15Speaker 1: and ultimately be on the same page and how we
- 7:17Speaker 1: see the game. So we're all kind of clicking on
- 7:19Speaker 1: all cylinders and I think that's been good. And obviously,
- 7:24Speaker 1: um having you know, being able to play with friends.
- 7:27Speaker 1: You know, I'm playing with a lot of my friends
- 7:29Speaker 1: that I've known for a while now, you know, and um,
- 7:33Speaker 1: we all have the same ambitions, we all have the
- 7:35Speaker 1: same goal, so we you know, we go out. I
- 7:38Speaker 1: think we lay it all, lay it all on the
- 7:40Speaker 1: line for one another because we were connected and we
- 7:43Speaker 1: had that relationship from this season to say that you've
- 7:47Speaker 1: seen those things, um, you know, I think, UM, I think,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I think the moments that stand out are the moments
- 7:57Speaker 1: of adversity. Um, the moments of adversity, because I think
- 8:01Speaker 1: in adverse moments, adversity, adverse moments, UM, that's when you
- 8:07Speaker 1: find out, you know, the foundation you lay for yourself
- 8:09Speaker 1: long long ago. So UM, you know, I think back
- 8:14Speaker 1: of how we've been able to preside through certain situations
- 8:17Speaker 1: this year, um, overcome certain things and um, you know,
- 8:22Speaker 1: be together through it all. So we have Dallas Goddard
- 8:26Speaker 1: early on and in the last game from out the
- 8:28Speaker 1: stiff arm and you can slapping the stiff arm and
- 8:30Speaker 1: the physical play of the offensive line. Where's the mentality
- 8:32Speaker 1: of the physical play, especially when you're facing the defense
- 8:35Speaker 1: like this? Yeah, I think nothing changes in terms of
- 8:38Speaker 1: how we want to play the game. UM. You know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: we want to go out there and control the things
- 8:42Speaker 1: that we can control. UM, do our jobs, do it,
- 8:45Speaker 1: try and do it at a high level. UM, and
- 8:48Speaker 1: and be the team we've been dealing. UM, be this close.
- 8:52Speaker 1: We're giving way. How much have you guys healthy where
- 8:57Speaker 1: you're talking and in their experience and how much can
- 9:00Speaker 1: I help? Yeah, I'm leaning on um, what we've done.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I'm leaning on the team that we built ourselves to be.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'm leaning on um, you know, the process that we've
- 9:11Speaker 1: had for ourselves. I think we have a standard and
- 9:14Speaker 1: you know, sometimes just um, sometimes just if you win,
- 9:20Speaker 1: win to lose, you obviously want to lose, But do
- 9:22Speaker 1: you play to your standard? Um? That's what I'm meaning
- 9:25Speaker 1: on that this stage. Physically, how are you feeling? I
- 9:32Speaker 1: felt better, But don't really matter. You know, it's get
- 9:38Speaker 1: a guy to get it done. Jamiko is a guy
- 9:41Speaker 1: used to watch and Houston when he went to the
- 9:44Speaker 1: time practice. Is very anything stand out about him that
- 9:48Speaker 1: you guys interrived at all? Now, I was I was
- 9:51Speaker 1: a little kid. I was a little kid. Uh. I'm
- 9:53Speaker 1: sure I've gotten a sign pair of Cleezer or a
- 9:58Speaker 1: sign ball from him or something like that. But you know,
- 10:01Speaker 1: I think, you know, obviously going back to Houston, reflecting
- 10:05Speaker 1: on it now, I didn't realize how important that was
- 10:07Speaker 1: to me and how big it was. Um then winning
- 10:11Speaker 1: that game we played the Houston Texans, you know when
- 10:14Speaker 1: I went when when I was in the stadium, I
- 10:16Speaker 1: kind of realized how cool that was, considering my background
- 10:19Speaker 1: of history with the team and growing up in the
- 10:23Speaker 1: city and always been in their facilities and all that.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But um, but yes, it's it's kind of cool. It's
- 10:30Speaker 1: kind of cool. A cool moment to be playing against
- 10:33Speaker 1: him and knowing I watched him, you know, saying with
- 10:36Speaker 1: J J. Wapp and I watched J J wis a
- 10:38Speaker 1: kid played against him this year, So it's cool. From
- 10:43Speaker 1: Houston and grew up watching Damiko Ryots now come again
- 10:47Speaker 1: as the Niners. Defensive coordinator Jalen Hurt says, I felt better,
- 10:51Speaker 1: but it don't really matter. I got to get it done.
- 10:53Speaker 1: How does my homes field? We're live there next, check
- 10:56Speaker 1: my name and the stings. I got drums, I got
- 10:58Speaker 1: paying the same ones. That was hay Hey, everybody you're watching,
- 11:03Speaker 1: gotta hell out. Championship wasn't day friendly reminder of Rihanna
- 11:06Speaker 1: is gonna be the halftime act at the Apple Music
- 11:09Speaker 1: Super Bowl fifty seven halftime show. The content has begun.
- 11:14Speaker 1: More info on this at All Things super Bowl NFL
- 11:18Speaker 1: dot com slash super Bowl. Go there now as you
- 11:21Speaker 1: watch our coverage here on Championship Wednesday. All four teams,
- 11:24Speaker 1: all four podiums, including Patrick Mahomes live right now, Kansas City.
- 11:29Speaker 1: How you doing. I'm doing good, you know, n SC
- 11:32Speaker 1: Championship week, ready to go. How's the ankle? It's doing good,
- 11:36Speaker 1: you know, a few days of treatment, a few days
- 11:38Speaker 1: of rehab. Excited to get on the practice field and
- 11:40Speaker 1: kind of tested out and see where I'm at. But
- 11:43Speaker 1: it's feeling good so far. You express it. You'd start
- 11:46Speaker 1: treatment the night after the AP You just kind of
- 11:48Speaker 1: bring us through what that night was and then these
- 11:50Speaker 1: last few days what you've been doing. Yeah. I was
- 11:52Speaker 1: able to do some extra testing just to make sure
- 11:54Speaker 1: everything was good. Um not after the game and then
- 11:56Speaker 1: get a few things done to help the treatment kind
- 11:58Speaker 1: of start off. And then the next few days has
- 12:00Speaker 1: just kind of been, I mean all day thing where
- 12:03Speaker 1: you're just doing neither treatment and rehab, are watching film
- 12:05Speaker 1: and uh I had to take Brittany a few places
- 12:09Speaker 1: with me so I can be around the kids a
- 12:10Speaker 1: little bit. But uh, it's a full day thing where
- 12:12Speaker 1: you're trying to make sure that you're obviously prepared for
- 12:14Speaker 1: the Bengals and a great football team, um mentally and
- 12:17Speaker 1: physically before all that insert Sunday. Probably my toe would
- 12:27Speaker 1: probably the toughest injury. I remember when I had the toe,
- 12:30Speaker 1: I was like having to had to curl my toes
- 12:32Speaker 1: when I walked. So that was probably the toughest injury
- 12:35Speaker 1: that I had to play through. Um, but I've dealt
- 12:38Speaker 1: with a lot of them, and and uh, you gotta
- 12:39Speaker 1: have to mentally just get yourself to focus on what
- 12:42Speaker 1: needs to be focused on, and that's the team that
- 12:43Speaker 1: you're playing, and you prepare your body all week and
- 12:45Speaker 1: then when you get to Sunday, you focused on playing
- 12:48Speaker 1: the football game. And uh, that's what I'm gonna trying
- 12:50Speaker 1: to do this week. Yeah, It's very similar, just a
- 12:57Speaker 1: different ankle, um, especially when you're different ankles to the
- 13:00Speaker 1: quarterback position, you're planning and throwing off different stuff. UM.
- 13:02Speaker 1: So the last one it was a leg that I
- 13:04Speaker 1: landed on, so I had to find ways to throw
- 13:06Speaker 1: where I can land and keep it in the right spot.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And this time I'll have to find ways to be
- 13:09Speaker 1: able to push off and be able to still make
- 13:11Speaker 1: the throws the right way. So uh, definitely uh similar
- 13:14Speaker 1: in a sense, but obviously different limitations and stuff that
- 13:16Speaker 1: I have to work through the first time that she'd
- 13:21Speaker 1: come into the playoff game, especially at the home. Basically
- 13:27Speaker 1: to your feel you feel more pressure. You feel like
- 13:31Speaker 1: it's because you're an underdoge. Man, There's there's not a
- 13:34Speaker 1: lot of pressure. Took a lot of peoples. Yeah, I
- 13:38Speaker 1: mean every time I walk on that field, I don't.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I don't think I'm a underdog, especially when I walk
- 13:42Speaker 1: on our Arrowheads field. So I just go in with
- 13:44Speaker 1: the same mindset of we're at the player best football
- 13:47Speaker 1: to win. UM. We know we're playing a great football
- 13:49Speaker 1: team that's beat us the last three times, UM, and
- 13:51Speaker 1: so we have to learn from our mistakes in the
- 13:53Speaker 1: past and be better, Um, in order to win against
- 13:55Speaker 1: a great football team. I just this. I think we'll
- 14:06Speaker 1: see throughout the week. I haven't got got to go
- 14:08Speaker 1: out and practice yet and put myself in those positions.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I've done limited stuff kind of in a small, uh
- 14:15Speaker 1: small kind of box of what I can do. But
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'll push it a little bit today and then then
- 14:18Speaker 1: the next day and then the next day again and
- 14:20Speaker 1: see what I can do that not re aggravate the
- 14:22Speaker 1: injury obviously, but to push you to see why I
- 14:24Speaker 1: will I'll be able to do on Sunday. You know. Um,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I'm never was a little bit earlier in the week.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I mean, you want to you want to push it,
- 14:35Speaker 1: but you don't, like I said, you don't want to
- 14:36Speaker 1: reaggravate it or do something that you were in the
- 14:37Speaker 1: position this last game and it was hurting. But uh,
- 14:40Speaker 1: that stuff that you do the rehab and then you
- 14:41Speaker 1: do the treatment for is to prepare yourself to go
- 14:43Speaker 1: out and practice and go out and play. And um,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I mean all you can do is keep pushing and
- 14:48Speaker 1: pushing it and uh try to do whatever you can
- 14:50Speaker 1: to go out there and win a football game home.
- 14:53Speaker 1: But when you're at the house and yeah, I mean
- 14:59Speaker 1: I haven't been at the house much, so when I'm
- 15:01Speaker 1: at the house, that's usually either studying or going to sleep.
- 15:03Speaker 1: So it's just kind of prepare yourself, do whatever I
- 15:06Speaker 1: can at the building, and then whenever I can't get
- 15:09Speaker 1: off my feet and get some sleep, and I'll go
- 15:10Speaker 1: get some sleep. Pleasures that I played through the major injuries, like,
- 15:15Speaker 1: what's your awareness of some of that in the past,
- 15:18Speaker 1: What do you learn from Yeah, I mean a lot
- 15:21Speaker 1: of grades have have done it. I mean, I think
- 15:22Speaker 1: it's just about being a competitor. I mean, if you
- 15:24Speaker 1: you want to you want to be out there, and
- 15:26Speaker 1: especially in these games. Um, and so all you can
- 15:29Speaker 1: do is just mentally prepare yourself and your body throughout
- 15:31Speaker 1: the week and then, like I said, you get the
- 15:33Speaker 1: game that you have to focus on the game and
- 15:35Speaker 1: uh that That's what I'll try to do, is prepare
- 15:37Speaker 1: my body the best I can and get to the
- 15:38Speaker 1: game and just go out there and play and try
- 15:40Speaker 1: to find a way to win better than than than
- 15:45Speaker 1: you expected. Uh, yeah, for sure. I mean I felt
- 15:48Speaker 1: I felt better than I thought I wasn't gonna be.
- 15:50Speaker 1: After the game, I mean, moving on it during the game,
- 15:52Speaker 1: definitely definitely hurt um, but after the game I was
- 15:55Speaker 1: able to rest it and kind of iced it up
- 15:57Speaker 1: and do different stuff like that. I felt in a
- 15:59Speaker 1: little bit better position, And obviously the next morning I
- 16:01Speaker 1: felt a little bit better than I've continued to get
- 16:03Speaker 1: better throughout the week. So we'll see how I feel
- 16:05Speaker 1: today practice, and I'll get a better better feel for
- 16:07Speaker 1: you all, and I'll be able to think answer a
- 16:08Speaker 1: little bit better tomorrow. This is the team. You've faced
- 16:12Speaker 1: it a few times like a division of com You
- 16:14Speaker 1: guys know each other pretty well. You've been able to
- 16:16Speaker 1: run on them. What has been the challenge trying to
- 16:19Speaker 1: throw against that second there? Yeah, they're coach well man. Uh,
- 16:24Speaker 1: their defensive coordinator coach and A Rumo has has doing
- 16:26Speaker 1: a great job of changing up the game plan. I
- 16:27Speaker 1: think that's been the best thing is very game plan specific. Uh,
- 16:30Speaker 1: it's never the same. He gives you different looks out
- 16:32Speaker 1: of the same the same look but different coverages. And
- 16:35Speaker 1: that's what I think a lot of great defense coordinators
- 16:37Speaker 1: do is they're able to coach your team up and
- 16:38Speaker 1: do a lot of different stuff and variety of stuff,
- 16:40Speaker 1: but still be sound in it. And I think that's
- 16:42Speaker 1: what they do well, and then they have great players.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I mean, at the end of the day, they have
- 16:45Speaker 1: great players that that are they're extremely coachable and go
- 16:48Speaker 1: out there and do their jobs the best of their ability.
- 16:50Speaker 1: And so when you're at this point in the playoffs,
- 16:52Speaker 1: are playing against great teams and it's about who can
- 16:54Speaker 1: execute at a higher level in different ways. And for
- 16:57Speaker 1: lack of better terms of Bengals have been a little
- 16:59Speaker 1: vocal this week. What's been the messaging and internally is
- 17:02Speaker 1: to not get involved with that and reacting and that
- 17:05Speaker 1: at that type of stuff. Yeah, I mean, we just
- 17:07Speaker 1: we just go out there and play football at the
- 17:08Speaker 1: end of the day, and all that stuff you can
- 17:10Speaker 1: talk throughout the week. At the end of day, it's
- 17:12Speaker 1: a football game. You have to go out there and
- 17:13Speaker 1: play it. So we believe in just going showing up
- 17:16Speaker 1: on Sunday, playing our best football and seeing what happens.
- 17:18Speaker 1: We're going to be four and Todd Steve and then saying,
- 17:21Speaker 1: but like Patrick a little a little related to that,
- 17:23Speaker 1: you're a lot more used to having winning streaks against
- 17:25Speaker 1: other teams that happened when going this way, and I
- 17:29Speaker 1: how do you how do you work with that? In
- 17:31Speaker 1: terms of the motivational point there. I know you you know,
- 17:34Speaker 1: look for motivation in different places. Um yeah, I mean
- 17:38Speaker 1: we've obviously lost this team three times in a row,
- 17:41Speaker 1: and uh they we've had great football games against them,
- 17:44Speaker 1: but they've been able to beat us situationally at the
- 17:46Speaker 1: end of games. And so how can we be better there? Um,
- 17:48Speaker 1: we know it's gonna be a close football game. Every
- 17:50Speaker 1: team you play in this position, it's gonna be a
- 17:51Speaker 1: close football game. Um, but how can we be better
- 17:54Speaker 1: situationally that we go out there and we're able to
- 17:56Speaker 1: execute on third down in the red zone and at
- 17:59Speaker 1: the end of games in order to win against a
- 18:00Speaker 1: good football team. Gets in your head in a negative
- 18:04Speaker 1: way in any way, right, I mean I assume it's
- 18:06Speaker 1: motivation rather than um yeah, I don't. I don't know
- 18:09Speaker 1: how it would be a negative way. I mean, if
- 18:10Speaker 1: you've I think you don't want to you won't relax,
- 18:13Speaker 1: You'll focus on even more on the details. So uh,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I mean I'll be we'll be ready to go, and
- 18:17Speaker 1: I'll be ready to go for sure. They've done a
- 18:20Speaker 1: nice job of putting pressure on a lot of teams.
- 18:22Speaker 1: How much of what they do is scheme stuff and
- 18:24Speaker 1: how much of it just physically they're able to do something,
- 18:27Speaker 1: uh take to put pressure on the floarbacks. Yeah, I
- 18:29Speaker 1: think more than anything, they have no weakness across that
- 18:32Speaker 1: whole defensive line and the linebacker position. Um. I mean,
- 18:35Speaker 1: they do a good job of pass rushing and they
- 18:36Speaker 1: do a good job with their DBS of rushing from
- 18:38Speaker 1: the outside, and they keep changing it up. I think
- 18:39Speaker 1: that's the biggest thing is you you can't you can't
- 18:41Speaker 1: relax back there. You have to make sure that you're
- 18:43Speaker 1: really focused on the details. And same with the offensive
- 18:45Speaker 1: line and the running backs and the protection plan. So uh,
- 18:48Speaker 1: I mean it's a little bit of both. They have
- 18:49Speaker 1: have great players all throughout that defense and then they
- 18:51Speaker 1: have a great a great coach and the defensive coordinator.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So uh, for us, we have to focus on the details,
- 18:56Speaker 1: prepare ourselves the best way possible, and at the end
- 18:58Speaker 1: of the day, we would go out there and play.
- 19:00Speaker 1: You talked about, you know, working for self back into
- 19:02Speaker 1: the as far as to it's not limited moving around.
- 19:07Speaker 1: What's the what's your message to the offensive line knowing that, Yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 1: I think you saw in the second half this last game,
- 19:15Speaker 1: man um that they stepped up and did a great
- 19:18Speaker 1: job of protecting me and where I was able to
- 19:19Speaker 1: throw the ball from within the pocket. Um. And I'm
- 19:22Speaker 1: sure they'll be ready to go. But I'm like I said,
- 19:23Speaker 1: it's great if it's a line, So it'll be a
- 19:24Speaker 1: great challenge for them. Um. But I'm excited for those
- 19:27Speaker 1: guys to go out there and accept the challenge. For
- 19:36Speaker 1: you think, um, not necessarily, like like I was saying earlier,
- 19:42Speaker 1: they're very gamesplan specific and they switch every every time
- 19:45Speaker 1: it seems like we play them. Um. And so it's
- 19:47Speaker 1: one of those teams you need to be preparing for everything. UM.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Play them one time, they pressure a little bit, put
- 19:52Speaker 1: them one time they dropp day, you put them in
- 19:54Speaker 1: this last game they played it more uh, kind of
- 19:56Speaker 1: true to the coverages. So I'm expecting to have a
- 19:59Speaker 1: mixture of all that stuff, man, I mean, that's why
- 20:00Speaker 1: they're in this position. Um. And so you just prepare
- 20:02Speaker 1: yourself to be ready for it and execute the play
- 20:04Speaker 1: and moves on to the next one. Thank you. Thank Patrick.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Patrick mahomes live on the podium in Kansas City, speaking
- 20:14Speaker 1: at the end of lou Ana Rumos. Cincinnati Defense asked
- 20:17Speaker 1: what he is going to see on Sunday. You're now
- 20:19Speaker 1: seeing Bucky Brooks and Brian bolding Arm and Ruth is silly,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I don't Championship Sunday. Bucky was on the field there
- 20:26Speaker 1: last week when the Jaguars fought hard but couldn't knock
- 20:30Speaker 1: out Mahomes and the Chiefs. And if the headline you're
- 20:32Speaker 1: looking for today is is Patrick Mahomes gonna play? Yeah,
- 20:35Speaker 1: it sure looks like he is. He's gonna be out
- 20:38Speaker 1: there today. Andy Reid said he's fine, but he's not
- 20:40Speaker 1: really fine, Bucky. They're gonna have to adjust somehow. So
- 20:44Speaker 1: what does his offense look like? Let's say he plays,
- 20:47Speaker 1: how do you compensate for a limited Patrick Mahomes shot gun?
- 20:51Speaker 1: A lot of shot gun, A lot of shot gun variations.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Sometimes the running back could be side saddle. Sometimes the
- 20:57Speaker 1: running back could be behind you in the pistol. You
- 20:59Speaker 1: will use your running game the way that you want
- 21:02Speaker 1: to under center, but you just have to do it
- 21:04Speaker 1: from the gun. The one thing that is is going
- 21:07Speaker 1: to impact Pat Mahomes not being able to move around
- 21:09Speaker 1: is he does a great job of extending plays running around.
- 21:13Speaker 1: When they dropped Aid and they played coverage and he
- 21:15Speaker 1: manipulates the pocket or he scrambles, that part of his
- 21:18Speaker 1: game won't be there. So what does Andy Reid do
- 21:21Speaker 1: to adjust to it? That's the big factor because they
- 21:23Speaker 1: make so many explosive plays. When he runs around by
- 21:26Speaker 1: time and someone falls asleep at the wheel and coverage.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I guess what, Bucky, I have a game plan already
- 21:31Speaker 1: built exactly what you're talking about. Let's just take a
- 21:33Speaker 1: look at it. I mean, it's a great it's a
- 21:35Speaker 1: great tea video. Let's just go to the video here, Andrew, okay,
- 21:38Speaker 1: because put to your point here here he is in
- 21:40Speaker 1: shotgun right, here's Jack McKinnon. He's just personal protector. He's excellent.
- 21:44Speaker 1: We we've all seen this block from last week, but
- 21:46Speaker 1: this is what he does every week. I mean, Mahomes
- 21:48Speaker 1: calls him a straight dog, and so protect Patrick Mahomes
- 21:52Speaker 1: at all costs. All right, if you're gonna throw it,
- 21:54Speaker 1: make sure your personal protectors on the field. Now, that's
- 21:56Speaker 1: Isaiah Pacheco. Guy had a great game on Sunday, Like
- 21:59Speaker 1: lean on the offensive line, Dreed, Humphrey, Tray Smith, Joe Touney.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Lean on those guys. Lets Pacheco some of the work
- 22:05Speaker 1: and then they've picked up car Darius Tony like you
- 22:08Speaker 1: can do this even with a bad foot, Like you
- 22:11Speaker 1: can just give the pitch, give it it to your
- 22:12Speaker 1: playmakers like car Darius. Maybe give him a few more touches,
- 22:15Speaker 1: maybe some fly sweeps, little pitch option, let him use
- 22:18Speaker 1: his ability to like move the offense along. And then look,
- 22:22Speaker 1: you mentioned that Travis Kelsey didn't have big numbers. Fourteen catches,
- 22:26Speaker 1: but seven yards of catch, Like you can run these
- 22:28Speaker 1: tight end delays. There's a million ways that Andy Reid,
- 22:31Speaker 1: Eric Bannamy could draw these plays up. You get the
- 22:33Speaker 1: ball in Kelsey's hands, we know he's excellent after the catch.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And if you're gonna take a deep shot and they
- 22:38Speaker 1: only had one against the Jacks, Bucky, like Max protected,
- 22:41Speaker 1: there's no gray on the deep over right here, little
- 22:43Speaker 1: sail route, clear out the space for him. This is Kelsey.
- 22:46Speaker 1: This is no gray you want to do by the
- 22:48Speaker 1: way you just look, you know, yeah so that, but
- 22:52Speaker 1: but protect if you're gonna take this shot, Bucky, there's
- 22:54Speaker 1: Blake Bell all right, no gray right here? You got
- 22:57Speaker 1: jet is a personal protector. Protect the edges. Don't let
- 23:01Speaker 1: don't put my homes in a position where he feels
- 23:03Speaker 1: like he's got to do what he's always done, which
- 23:05Speaker 1: is takeoff, scramble, extend play beyond the extras, and os
- 23:08Speaker 1: him stay in that pocket. Like, I think that's a
- 23:11Speaker 1: workable game plan where they could still function. They can
- 23:14Speaker 1: still move the ball. They might not have some of
- 23:16Speaker 1: the dynamic plays that we used to seeing, but this
- 23:18Speaker 1: would be a way that you could play around the injury.
- 23:20Speaker 1: So it's funny about that is this is where experience
- 23:22Speaker 1: matters in game, Andy Reid switz in a moment's notice
- 23:26Speaker 1: when right to the max protected stuff, quick game stuff.
- 23:29Speaker 1: So now you give him a full week to prepare
- 23:30Speaker 1: for it. Yeah, Cincinnati Bings, we have to deal with
- 23:32Speaker 1: different stuff that they've seen. Question how much you have
- 23:34Speaker 1: to take out of the play, But because we saw him,
- 23:36Speaker 1: you saw it again on the field, him struggling, the
- 23:39Speaker 1: home struggling with a lot of the stretch handoffs, a
- 23:41Speaker 1: lot of the outside zone stuff. You have to cut
- 23:42Speaker 1: all that out. Is the run game more predictable when
- 23:45Speaker 1: you have to get him out of the shotgun here
- 23:47Speaker 1: when you have Jerick McKinnon next to him, or run
- 23:49Speaker 1: him out of the pistol and and mahomes your point
- 23:52Speaker 1: about creativity. Nobody in the NFL had more passing attempts
- 23:56Speaker 1: outside of the pocket this year than Patrick Mahomes, So
- 24:00Speaker 1: if you keep in the pocket, by the way, he's
- 24:02Speaker 1: still very dangerous, very rangers and likely your m v P.
- 24:07Speaker 1: But it is different. NFL Now is a production of
