- 0:00SPEAKER_00: So ultimately, is it do you want the food or do you want God?
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Today I am excited to talk about health and fitness and um specifically holistic well-being.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Um that's something that's really been a a key phrase or term, if you will, on my mind, on my heart.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Umistic well-being and specifically aligning our health with God.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Um there's actually some great resources, um, great books, great podcasts about this, and some great people who actually have dedicated our life to um teaching how to live life um with holistic biblical well-being.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: So um today I want to talk about uh a few questions, and and and the first one that I got was why should faith and fitness go hand in hand?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And um that's that's a very, very simple answer.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, and that is uh 1 Corinthians 6, 19 to 20 is uh tells us that our our body is God's temple, uh, that we have been bought at a price, that uh we that our body is on our own, uh, and so therefore we shall, we should um glorify God with it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And um the way we interact with it, the way that we um you know what we put into it and what comes out of it um should should should reflect God's character, um, and we know that we are also made in God's image.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: So with that, um, you know, I used to before I came to the faith, I quote unquote was a gym bro.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: I used to lift six times a week, um, and I you know thought about like competing in bodybuilding, competing in powerlifting, stuff like that.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Um, and just ultimately it was never enough because it led to comparison.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Um, and and I mean that's literally what bodybuilding is it's comparing, okay.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I look phenomenal, but look at that guy over there, right?
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: And so instead, what I do now is my main my main form of exercise is Muay Thai, um, martial arts, but I also enjoy running with friends, I enjoy doing pickleball with friends, volleyball, stuff like that.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Um, and so ultimately, like it's you want to be in shape, but you want you don't want to make it an idol.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Because being in good health ultimately will give you more energy, will uh help you feel more free.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Oftentimes, um, you know, and I I still have to be very very recognizant of this, is oftentimes people will um eat or not eat as a coping mechanism.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: If you're having a bad day, you may be like, oh, I don't want to eat.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Um, and vice versa, if you're having a bad day, some people will be like like overeating uh to eat their emotions away.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: And I mean, um, that's that's a big part of my testimony is I was eating uh more or less to cope with my depression to my my my anxiety, uh, instead of eating for nourishment, eating for energy, eating uh, you know, in in in in healthy ways, right?
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Uh and so with that, you know, I think it's just having that structure.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: One thing that I recommend to everybody, especially if you have a consistent diet, because people are hesitant about this at first, which is uh tracking your calories is critical.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Uh tracking your calories gives you just so much peace, so much clarity, so much discernment and wisdom on what you actually put into your body.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Because if I am scanning or typing in or whatever, uh, you know, tracking everything that I eat before, especially if it's before I put it out in my mouth, I'm gonna be like, okay, well, one, this is what I've eaten so far today, this is what I've eaten a sweet, this is um where I've been on my calorie goal, and so I would also recommend setting a calorie goal to you know stay under uh or be really not even stay under, but be at.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: So let's say it's 2500 calories a day.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Aim to be at 25, 2500 calories a day with this amount of carbs, this amount of fat, this amount of protein, um, and yeah, and then aim for that.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Uh and then you know, with that, some people will idolize that too.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Like they, you know, so it it it's it's it it really can be a personal journey.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Um, but that would be my recommendation: track your calories, track your macros, macros, manning carbs, fat, protein.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Um that way you're more intentional.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: If I'm going to eat a candy bar, I give it a lot more thought and discernment before I put that into my body, if I know that I'm gonna track that and be like, oh, I I I ate that earlier, right?
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: And so, okay, I wonder why my energy levels are crashing.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I wonder why uh you know my my stomach doesn't feel great.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: And it's because you are eating things that are um not natural, that are not necessarily the healthiest, and that's not to say that you can never eat those things, but just it, you know, tracking helps you stay more intentional versus that being a very, very recurring and and normal uh thing to do and eat.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Um, how does taking care of your body glorify God?
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Um this kind of goes back to the Old Testament, which is you know, in the temple only things that were clean could enter.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: And because of the gospel, because of the Holy Spirit, because of our reconciliation with God, with the Father, with Jesus, with the Holy Spirit, we are now God's temple.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: And so knowing that we are God's temple, right, we need to be discerning with what we put in our in our in our mouth, right?
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: In our in our in our food, in our stomach.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Because if we're eating Taco Bell, McDonald's, fast food, like that's probably not what God intended for us to to have in a in a healthy diet, right?
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Um especially not on like a recurring basis, on a um highly recurring basis.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, it's probably not what he's calling us to, right?
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Um and then, you know, but if we're eating steak and we're eating rice and we're eating, you know, uh fruits and vegetables and different things like that, like that's probably a bit more aligned with what God is is calling us into, um what he wants in his temple.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Um so that's another thing is that would be very intentional with just eating like more whole foods, more eating more clean foods.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: And if you have a meal where it's like I, you know, I frankly I like ice cream, right?
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: I um I I want to be very, very clear.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't have a 100% clean diet at all.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Um I eat ice cream probably once a week.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: I that's the main thing that's coming to mind right now.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I eat things like breadsticks, right?
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Which is probably not like the healthiest thing to be putting in my body.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: But it's about in that sense, like the balance and also the intentionality, like, okay, I'm gonna eat ice cream on Saturday, but I'm not gonna eat it Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, like every single day.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Even though I I would like to, like my body would like to, but that's not glorifying God.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: So ultimately, is it do you want the food or do you want God?
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Do you want the the the peace that God provides and the energy also that God provides, which is found in whole foods, whole uh uh you know, foods that are um clean that He that that more or less are God's creation, God created animals, right?
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: So steak, right, is great, chicken, stuff like that.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: So uh eating whole foods versus eating um fast foods.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Um with that is you know, Jesus wasn't necessarily known for being fast, right?
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: He never uh he never rushed anywhere.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: So um we also should not rush anywhere, and that includes in our eating.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: We should not have to settle for quote unquote fast food, right?
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Um so what habits help me stay aligned, body, mind, and spirit?
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I think everything flows from um the early morning quiet time, um, secret space.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Everything flows from there.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: Um the the um the levels of discernment, the the the insight that the Lord unlocks into secret space is crucial.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Uh I think with that too, uh it just it it's really it's tracking things, right?
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: So again, like I said, tracking food, um you know, tracking finances, tracking time.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Um I think it's really just being intentional in being and living so that you may not just be aloof and unproductive and maybe even like busy, but not actually like getting anything done, right?
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: And so with that, I I would say that's probably the biggest thing is one, the secret space, and then two tracking um being organized with what you do with your time, your money, your resources, your um, your food, your your energy.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Every single thing is a stewardship.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Like, how do you steward your time?
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: How do you steward your money?
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: How do you steward uh your health?
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: How do you steward your relationships?
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: How do you steward um every single thing that you've been given, right?
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: So um yeah.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: And first and foremost, I think also, you know, before anything, is seeking God, seeking the Father first, um, and doing it for him, not for others.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Um is that's that's gonna that's gonna be your guidepost.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Um recently we had Alex Gator on here and you know he talked about the three guideposts, which were one, how the Lord is speaking to you in your quiet time, right?
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Uh or just in general, how the Lord is speaking to you.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Um two the word of God, and three, wise counsel in your life.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: So those three guideposts.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: So now in my opinion, you can really rank those, um, which is one, the word of God.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: Um, the word of God is the truth, right?
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: So, because especially depending on where you're at in your journey, some people will hear the the the voice of God and not know with certainty that it is the voice of God, and that can be a uh dangerous place to be in.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: So if you think you're hearing from the from the Lord, it should also align with scripture, and if it doesn't, then it's not the Lord.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: It's not God.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: Um if you yeah, if you're hearing from the Lord, if you think you're hearing from the Lord and it's not in alignment with scripture, then it's not it's not God, especially if it's directly against, it's not God.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: Um and third is is wise counsel because they are filled with the spirit, they are um following the way, the truth, and the life, but they are also imperfect beings, they are uh humans on on the same walk that you are on.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: So um I would say in no in my opinion, it goes in note in that order word, um, how the Lord is speaking to you, and then wise counsel.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: Uh, but all three of those things are important with how you uh steward your your health, your life, your relationships, your finances, everything, everything, and so on and so forth.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: So um hopefully this helps with getting a biblical uh and spiritual alignment with your health.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Um, there's also a book that is great that I would recommend.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: I do not have it in here with me right now, uh, but it's called the Bibliodiet, I want to say.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: So it's called The Bibliod.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: It's a green, green book uh by Jordan Rubin and Dr.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Josh Axe.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: So uh recommend looking at that.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Uh it's called A Bibliod, Live Long, Master Metabolism, Reduce Pain, Fight Depression, and Conquer Cancer with healing secrets from the Bible.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: If that sounds interesting, I would definitely recommend checking it out.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: I'll actually leave a link to that as well so that you guys can find it easier uh in the description.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: Um, with that said, I appreciate you watching and hope you have a blessed week.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much, and I'll see you on the next episode.
