- 0:29Speaker 1: Chop it up, talk a little ball, talk to LSU
- 0:31Speaker 1: and Sam Levin in the last segment. I want to
- 0:33Speaker 1: flip it and talk some Saints, Ravens, and how in
- 0:36Speaker 1: the world the Saints were able to get that done. Sean,
- 0:38Speaker 1: I'll just ask you, how in the world were the
- 0:41Speaker 1: Saints able to get that done?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Well, I think more than one reason.
- 0:46Speaker 3: What's interesting, the Baltimore Ravens over the last few years
- 0:48Speaker 3: need the.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Saints' finish.
- 0:50Speaker 3: And the Saints need to start like Baltimore does normally.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Baltimore's been awful at holding leads. They've let teams back
- 0:57Speaker 3: into it in the last year or two. And the
- 1:00Speaker 3: Saints have put themselves in a bind but are quickly
- 1:02Speaker 3: becoming a, oh, my gosh, they'll spot you, but then
- 1:06Speaker 3: they'll come back and be relentless. Even though they lost
- 1:09Speaker 3: game one, they were in position. And now in this one,
- 1:11Speaker 3: to come back and go 15 unanswered. Well, first off,
- 1:14Speaker 3: when you pitch that kind of second-half defensive effort against
- 1:18Speaker 3: that team, big. Matty and that staff that I always
- 1:21Speaker 3: love about attempts, even though they didn't get a lot
- 1:23Speaker 3: of yards. And Baltimore had more rushing yards. Think about
- 1:27Speaker 3: the shift in that. They ran it, I think, 27,
- 1:29Speaker 3: 28 times the Saints did for 70, 80.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 1:32Speaker 3: But Baltimore ran it less for more yards. Derrick Henry,
- 1:36Speaker 3: only 16 carries, took him out of the game for
- 1:38Speaker 3: the most part.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Incredible.
- 1:40Speaker 3: First off, I don't know why Baltimore, when a game
- 1:42Speaker 3: is that close, where you're talking about a score, why
- 1:46Speaker 3: you don't lean on the biggest, as big a beast
- 1:49Speaker 3: as there is in the league and only give it
- 1:50Speaker 3: to him 16 times after the week before he toted
- 1:52Speaker 3: it for about a buck 60 or whatever it was.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I didn't understand the approach in that.
- 1:58Speaker 3: I know when you got Lamar Jackson, that's a good
- 2:00Speaker 3: crutch to lean on, but Derrick Henry seems like somebody
- 2:02Speaker 3: that would help. So attempts are always more important than yards,
- 2:07Speaker 3: even though if you get both together, it's kind of nice.
- 2:09Speaker 3: So it's for the most part that bears itself, but
- 2:12Speaker 3: they pitched a shutout in the fourth quarter. The ball
- 2:15Speaker 3: didn't hit the ground, but a couple of times by
- 2:17Speaker 3: Tyler in the second, you know, in the second half,
- 2:20Speaker 3: Clutch plays and performance under duress in.
- 2:23Speaker 2: The second half.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Obviously, the physicality, the fact that he is getting the
- 2:28Speaker 3: ball to his best player on the perimeter, but not
- 2:31Speaker 3: forcing it if he's covered.
- 2:33Speaker 2: And for the first two weeks, the lobby has been
- 2:35Speaker 2: a monster.
- 2:36Speaker 3: But even then, distributing the ball and what he did
- 2:39Speaker 3: that we've talked about with Sam, the last one that
- 2:41Speaker 3: some guys aren't doing is the accuracy. And Shook's always
- 2:45Speaker 3: going to be accurate. He's not missing big plays for
- 2:47Speaker 3: the most part when they're there. And he protected the
- 2:49Speaker 3: football unlike the first game when he threw it to
- 2:52Speaker 3: the other team and didn't lay it on the ground.
- 2:54Speaker 2: But he's making plays at distribution.
- 2:57Speaker 3: You caught up in one guy because he's so good.
- 2:59Speaker 2: The guy's covered both to the other guy. Sounds pretty simple, right?
- 3:02Speaker 2: But he's making it look simple.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I'm telling you that this dude's different.
- 3:07Speaker 2: He is different.
- 3:08Speaker 3: And the quarterback play matters and you protect the football.
- 3:11Speaker 3: But let's give the defense some credit. You're going against
- 3:13Speaker 3: a team that forced them out of a game plan
- 3:16Speaker 3: where they only gave it to that guy 16 times,
- 3:18Speaker 3: Derrick Henry. and then relentless keep out of the end zone,
- 3:21Speaker 3: and then they can't keep living there. I saw the
- 3:24Speaker 3: Bears do this last year a lot, get behind and
- 3:27Speaker 3: get back into it.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But the Saints can win the division.
- 3:30Speaker 3: And I'm going to tell you now from what I've
- 3:32Speaker 3: seen already, the way he's mechanically sound, his ability, underrated escapability,
- 3:38Speaker 3: and the way he throws it with big plays and
- 3:39Speaker 3: the accuracy in clutch, he's the best quarterback in the division.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And, yes, I'm including Baker Mayfield in that talk, not.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Even just– Baker, if you needed to win one, maybe
- 3:50Speaker 3: it's Baker because of the experience. But right now, if
- 3:52Speaker 3: you said, Sean, for the next five years, pick the guy.
- 3:55Speaker 3: All rosters are the same in the NFC South. Two
- 3:59Speaker 3: and Pennix aren't in his league right now. Baker is,
- 4:02Speaker 3: but Baker's a little erratic at times.
- 4:06Speaker 2: But I still believe in him. I'd have paid him, too,
- 4:08Speaker 2: considering the circumstances.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I'm going to tell you right now, over the next
- 4:11Speaker 3: five years, I have a lot of respect for Bryce Young.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I think that that.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Tyler Shooks is good, a dual threat guy and a
- 4:19Speaker 3: better thrower than any of them in the division right now.
- 4:21Speaker 2: He's, he's got some special written on him, man.
- 4:24Speaker 1: People are excited here. We're trying to temper obviously some
- 4:26Speaker 1: of that excitement. I mean, it's been tense.
- 4:27Speaker 2: You have to, I don't man. I'm willing to put
- 4:29Speaker 2: my butt on the line for it. And it's early, but.
- 4:32Speaker 3: He is, he is doing things that, that good quarterbacks
- 4:36Speaker 3: do without forcing it.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Does that make sense? Yeah. Throwing them back into it
- 4:40Speaker 2: and making good decisions without panicking. I love it. And
- 4:43Speaker 2: he's well coached.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Uh, Are the Raiders any good?
- 4:47Speaker 2: They are.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Better. That division is, you know, hell, we've got to
- 4:54Speaker 3: start asking, are the Chargers any good?
- 4:56Speaker 2: That's become a problem. You know what? You know what?
- 4:59Speaker 3: It's amazing what an influence of a coach, believability and
- 5:04Speaker 3: setting standards early. It's only been a couple weeks, and
- 5:06Speaker 3: it's only two, but that's all we've got to judge on.
- 5:09Speaker 3: They've made the right decision without forcing, unlike the Minnesota Vikings,
- 5:12Speaker 3: who I know are 2-0.
- 5:13Speaker 2: But I mean, at the.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Quarterback position, forcing McCarthy last year to play when you
- 5:17Speaker 3: had Darnold and Daniel Jones, you go get the first
- 5:20Speaker 3: pick of the draft. You're not forcing because we got
- 5:22Speaker 3: to have tickets and we're not winning. Clint Kubiak's doing
- 5:25Speaker 3: the right thing by playing the guy who's better for
- 5:27Speaker 3: the position right now. And Cousins is responding. Their defensive
- 5:32Speaker 3: physicality is really, really good. They're protecting the football and
- 5:36Speaker 3: Jenty's going to be a really good player in the league.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Yes, they are.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And this is, I actually, if I had told you
- 5:41Speaker 3: this game at the beginning of the season in week three,
- 5:43Speaker 3: we were going to be talking about. We just said,
- 5:46Speaker 3: come on now. You've got two cellar-dwelling teams that are
- 5:49Speaker 3: trying to lift themselves out of it, and we're three
- 5:51Speaker 3: years away. This is different now. Now, I don't know
- 5:54Speaker 3: where any of them are going to end up in December,
- 5:55Speaker 3: but I know this. I think this is must-watch football
- 5:58Speaker 3: on Sunday.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I do.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Quarterback position, the way they're rising, both teams for some
- 6:04Speaker 3: of the same and different reasons.
- 6:06Speaker 2: One's a young guy. One's an older veteran quarterback. But
- 6:09Speaker 2: the physicality is different for both this year and it's important.
- 6:12Speaker 2: So yes, the Raiders are.
- 6:16Speaker 3: A good football team and they're going to give the
- 6:18Speaker 3: Saints all they can handle because the Raiders now are
- 6:20Speaker 3: also instilling that, you know, maybe we have reason to believe.
- 6:24Speaker 3: It's been a minute since I felt more optimistic because
- 6:26Speaker 3: I grew up a lifelong Raider fan. This is different,
- 6:29Speaker 3: at least to start. I've been a Raider fan since
- 6:31Speaker 3: I was born. So seeing this, I'm trying to temper
- 6:33Speaker 3: mine like you are with Tyler Shook. I'm trying to
- 6:36Speaker 3: temper mine. I know it's two games. but they look
- 6:38Speaker 3: a bit different than they have. And a lot of
- 6:40Speaker 3: it has to do with culture's overused. I think Clint
- 6:43Speaker 3: Kubiak's bringing a winning philosophy to it, at least early on.
- 6:47Speaker 2: And guys are buying in.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Sean, give me, and Sean Salisbury is our guest. That's
- 6:50Speaker 1: Sean Unfiltered. Make sure you follow him there. Unpaved on YouTube.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Make sure you go subscribe. We looked at the schedule
- 6:55Speaker 1: at the start of the season, Sean, and went, all right,
- 6:57Speaker 1: at Lions, at Ravens, probably going to start 0-2. But Raiders, Falcons,
- 7:01Speaker 1: Vikings all at home. It's a chance to go 3-2
- 7:03Speaker 1: through your first five. Obviously, the Saints can now do
- 7:07Speaker 1: better than that based on the win against the Ravens.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Give me a matchup to watch with this Saints-Raiders game. Because, listen,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I haven't watched. I've seen the scores, but I haven't
- 7:17Speaker 1: watched them yet. Give me a matchup to watch with
- 7:20Speaker 1: Saints-Raiders Sunday in the Dome.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Well, you know, they're going to turn it up pass rush.
- 7:24Speaker 2: You know, they are. They know that.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Probably how the front seven of the Raiders, because, listen,
- 7:36Speaker 3: I think that we can say Olave's– and I know
- 7:38Speaker 3: the Raiders have some good players, but Olave on the
- 7:40Speaker 3: off– I guess what I'm saying, I would, if I'm
- 7:43Speaker 3: the Raiders, the best matchup for me would be– and
- 7:46Speaker 3: it's a grouping. It's not just one guy because of
- 7:49Speaker 3: who's playing in this game. I'm keeping an eye on
- 7:52Speaker 3: the Raiders, the pass rush, but also more importantly the
- 7:56Speaker 3: run defense to see if they can force the Saints,
- 8:00Speaker 3: who have proven at times they can play a little
- 8:02Speaker 3: bit of one-dimensional– Can they keep doing it? Can they
- 8:05Speaker 3: keep living like this? Normally you go into a game saying,
- 8:09Speaker 3: take the run away, make them throw.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Right now for.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Me, I got to take Tyler Shook's ability to make
- 8:17Speaker 3: that play.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I got to put him on address. I want to
- 8:20Speaker 2: take the pass away.
- 8:20Speaker 3: So I'm anxious to see if they can get him
- 8:22Speaker 3: in an early down long yarded situations. Again, take the
- 8:25Speaker 3: run out of it because on the other side, Cousins
- 8:28Speaker 3: is making really good decisions and getting the ball to
- 8:30Speaker 3: the right people. So for me, I could say front seven,
- 8:33Speaker 3: but it's more of, can you take the, again, the
- 8:36Speaker 3: run out of it, but more importantly, flip it. Can
- 8:39Speaker 3: you force the Saints to have to run the football
- 8:42Speaker 3: to win instead of letting Shook, you know, get up?
- 8:45Speaker 3: And I would say, we'll start fast. We'll start fast
- 8:47Speaker 3: is what the Saints are allowing other teams to do
- 8:49Speaker 3: and they're delivering. So while I go in and I haven't,
- 8:51Speaker 3: you know, a few days away of like, well, this
- 8:53Speaker 3: corner versus a line, obviously if you're the Raiders, if
- 8:56Speaker 3: you can get pressure with four guys or three guys
- 8:58Speaker 3: or five, and not have to play man on a lobby,
- 9:02Speaker 3: probably be a pretty wise.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Idea because you don't want to leave an island.
- 9:05Speaker 3: So if you can get pressure without having to pressure
- 9:09Speaker 3: with extra guys, huge. But to me, it's a matchup
- 9:12Speaker 3: of taking the dimension of the throwing game, see if
- 9:15Speaker 3: the Saints can run it 35 times and beat you.
- 9:17Speaker 3: And if they can, then the Saints have proven something
- 9:20Speaker 3: to them. But for me, there's a lot of them,
- 9:22Speaker 3: and it's early in the week. But I want to
- 9:24Speaker 3: see how the Saints deal with this quarterback, like Lamar,
- 9:29Speaker 3: is a veteran, but his legs aren't going to be used.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Cousins is not going to do that very often.
- 9:33Speaker 3: But for me, it's the, and we're saying this for
- 9:35Speaker 3: a guy who's had nine starts or something, eight starts
- 9:38Speaker 3: in his career, whatever it is, and Tyler Shook, is
- 9:41Speaker 3: you're going to, I would force the Saints to beat
- 9:43Speaker 3: me running the football.
- 9:44Speaker 2: I would.
- 9:45Speaker 3: And see if you can make Shook into some early
- 9:48Speaker 3: long down situations and see if you can pressure and
- 9:50Speaker 3: force turnovers. Other than that, I think the Raiders will
- 9:53Speaker 3: have a hard time stopping the passing game regardless.
- 9:55Speaker 2: But Take the pass away first, take away.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Those lanes and make them earn them patiently down the
- 10:00Speaker 3: field and see if they can continue to do it
- 10:01Speaker 3: and make them a run team this week and see
- 10:03Speaker 3: if that works.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Interesting you mentioned the pass rush for the Raiders. Kelvin Banks,
- 10:07Speaker 1: the fantastic young left tackle with the ankle injury, is
- 10:10Speaker 1: going to be likely headed for an IR stint. Maybe
- 10:13Speaker 1: an interesting one to watch there with the seam. Richards
- 10:15Speaker 1: had left tackle to see how it goes against that
- 10:17Speaker 1: Raiders pass rush.
- 10:18Speaker 2: And, you know, Matty, I can tell you this.
- 10:19Speaker 3: The Raiders will move people around to try to create
- 10:21Speaker 3: that matchup and see if there's blood in the water
- 10:23Speaker 3: with the shark, and that's where they're going to try
- 10:25Speaker 3: to go get it. And if they can do that
- 10:26Speaker 3: without pressuring and blitzing, you know, unlike the Vikings who
- 10:29Speaker 3: love to pressure a lot, if you can play zone
- 10:32Speaker 3: and force Shook to be patient and hold the ball
- 10:34Speaker 3: a little longer, may play into the Raiders' hands with
- 10:37Speaker 3: some injury. I can't wait to see it.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to this matchup, and maybe in week
- 10:40Speaker 2: zero we wouldn't have thought that.
- 10:42Speaker 1: He is Sean Salisbury at Sean Unfiltered. Y'all give him
- 10:45Speaker 1: a follow. He's good enough to hang out with us
- 10:46Speaker 1: here on Tuesdays. We always appreciate it, man.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Thank you. Thank you, Matt. Appreciate it, buddy.
