- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I am Lucas, and this is episode two fifty one. Luna: And I am Luna. It is so good to be back at the mic again. Lucas: Yes. We have covered a lot of ground recently. From climbing mountains to swimming in the fjord. Luna: Right. Last time we talked about physical actions like climbing and swimming. Lucas: Exactly. But today we are going inward. We are looking at feelings and desires. Luna: I like that. My heart is ready. What are we learning today? Lucas: We are learning two very important verbs. One is 'å håpe'. That means 'to hope'. Luna: 'Å håpe'. Okay. I can say that. To hope. Lucas: Let us try it slowly. 'Å håpe'. Say it with me. Luna: 'Å håpe'. Oh, that feels soft. Like a whisper. Lucas: It does. Now let us make it a full sentence. 'Jeg håper på det'. That means 'I hope for it'. Luna: 'Jeg håper på det'. I hope for it. Got it. Lucas: Great. The second verb is 'å ønske'. This means 'to wish' or 'to want'. Luna: 'Å ønske'. Wish. Want. Okay. Lucas: Let us practice. 'Å ønske'. Try it. Luna: 'Å ønske'. There we go. Lucas: Perfect. Now a common phrase. 'Jeg ønsker meg'. That means 'I wish myself' or 'I would like for myself'. Luna: 'Jeg ønsker meg'. I wish myself. Like when I buy something? Lucas: Yes. Exactly. When you want a gift. Or a new car. You use 'jeg ønsker meg'. Luna: Oh, I see. So if I want a dog, I say 'jeg ønsker meg en hund'? Lucas: You could! Though your neighbors might not agree. Let us try one more. 'Jeg ønsker deg lykke til'. That means 'I wish you luck'. Luna: 'Jeg ønsker deg lykke til'. I wish you luck. That is very kind. Lucas: It is. And very useful. Before we go deeper into these phrases, I want to mention something about our show. Luna: Oh? What is it? Lucas: We work hard to keep this podcast free and clean. Luna: Thanks for listening. Now, let us get back to hoping and wishing. Lucas: Yes. Let us repeat our first phrase. 'Å håpe'. Say it. Luna: 'Å håpe'. To hope. Lucas: Good. Now the sentence. 'Jeg håper på det'. I hope for it. Luna: 'Jeg håper på det'. I hope for it. Lucas: Excellent. Now the second verb. 'Å ønske'. To wish. Luna: 'Å ønske'. To wish. Lucas: And the phrase for wanting something. 'Jeg ønsker meg'. I wish myself. Luna: 'Jeg ønsker meg'. I wish myself. Lucas: And finally, the good wish. 'Jeg ønsker deg lykke til'. I wish you luck. Luna: 'Jeg ønsker deg lykke til'. I wish you luck. Lucas: Let us put them in a little scene. Imagine you are at a cafe in Oslo. Luna: Okay. I am sitting there. It is raining outside. Lucas: Right. You look out the window. You say, 'Jeg håper på det'. You hope the rain stops. Luna: Yes. 'Jeg håper på det'. I hope for sunshine. Lucas: Then you see a nice book in the shop window. What do you say? Luna: I say, 'Jeg ønsker meg den boken'. I wish for that book. Lucas: Perfect. Then your friend leaves for a trip. What do you say? Luna: I wave and say, 'Jeg ønsker deg lykke til'. I wish you luck. Lucas: That is beautiful. You used all three phrases naturally. Luna: It felt easy. Because they are so common. Everyone hopes and wishes. Lucas: Exactly. These words connect us to our daily lives. Let us review one more time. Luna: Ready. Give me the cue. Lucas: 'Å håpe'. Luna: 'Å håpe'. To hope. Lucas: 'Jeg håper på det'. Luna: 'Jeg håper på det'. I hope for it. Lucas: 'Å ønske'. Luna: 'Å ønske'. To wish. Lucas: 'Jeg ønsker meg'. Luna: 'Jeg ønsker meg'. I wish myself. Lucas: 'Jeg ønsker deg lykke til'. Luna: 'Jeg ønsker deg lykke til'. I wish you luck. Lucas: Well done. You are getting better every day. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I feel confident now. I can hope and wish in Norwegian. Lucas: And that is a great skill to have. Keep practicing these phrases. Luna: I will. See you next time. Lucas: Bye for now. Practice these till we chat again.
