Joseph and His Brothers · Genesis 37
Joseph and His Brothers (Genesis 37) read aloud, in a fresh direct translation from the Hebrew - plain modern English, nothing added.
Translator's notes:
• Genesis 37:3 — כְּתֹנֶת פַּסִּים (ketonet passim): chose "a long robe". Alternatives: "a robe of many colors", "an ornamented robe". Why: passim is rare and its exact sense is unsettled — it may denote length reaching the hands and feet, or fine colored work; "long robe" rests on the word's clearest attested sense without inventing colors.
• Genesis 37:36 — שַׂר הַטַּבָּחִים (sar ha-tabbachim): chose "the chief of the guards"…
