  And there's been a lot of talk in the old college football

  world lately about pre season polls.

  I'm sure you've heard a ton of discussion about this because of

  course the fact that especially this year's college football pre
• 0:39
  season poll was so wrong or appears to be so wrong here as
• 0:45
  we are approaching what, week 7, most teams have played 5-6
• 0:51
  games. Whatever it is, right?

  Most teams have played 55 games. So it's interesting though
• 1:01
  because you look, I'm going to go back to the pre season poll,
• 1:06
  AP pre season poll and it was released.

  I believe I looked this up August 11th #1 Texas.

  We're going to talk about Arch manning #2 Penn State #3 Ohio

  State. OK, pretty good there.

  I know I'm biased as a Buckeyes fan #4 Clemson, Yikes.

  Then you got #5 Georgia, you got Notre Dame, you got Oregon, you
• 1:36
  got Alabama, LSU, and Miami. Rounding out the top ten of the
• 1:42
  pre season poll, which again came out about two months ago or
• 1:48
  so right there in early to mid August.

  Let's now go to the most recent poll, and this is AP I'm
• 1:57
  talking. So we had the preseason poll.

  This is now Week 7. So we've had eight polls and
• 2:05
  there's my Buckeyes 5 and O number one, they got 41st place
• 2:11
  votes. Miami, EU #221 first place
• 2:18
  votes, Oregon number 35 first place votes.

  So let's give the voter some credit there, especially with
• 2:25
  the top three. All three of those teams were
• 2:29
  very highly ranked. Ohio State, Miami, Oregon, and
• 2:32
  you got Ole Miss, You got Texas A&M right now at 5, Oklahoma,
• 2:38
  Indiana. I'm not buying Indiana as the
• 2:41
  number #7 team in the country. Alabama 8, Texas Tech 9, and
• 2:47
  Georgia 10. So I've been hearing all the
• 2:50
  talkers and reading articles and all that and a lot of folks are
• 2:55
  basically saying that we got to get rid of the pre season polls.
• 2:59
  Pre season polls are stupid. Pre season polls don't make any
• 3:02
  sense. You don't know anything.
• 3:04
  There's too much player movement with the portal and everybody
• 3:08
  transferring all the time. It's not good information.
• 3:11
  And guess what? I agree with those folks 100% in
• 3:15
  the fact that the pre season polls, they're stupid.

  But guess what? They're fun also.

  They're part of the fabric of college football and always have
• 3:26
  been. It gives us something to talk
• 3:29
  about. All right, all this team's
• 3:31
  ranked. This is a ranked win early on.
• 3:34
  Now here's the here's the disclaimer.

  What we need to get away from is buying so much into the pre
• 3:41
  season poll that it has effects 2-3 months later when we've seen
• 3:50
  now 89101112 games and we have all the data points from all the
• 3:57
  games now. There's always going to be a
• 3:59
  little bit of OK, this team beat this team week one Week 2 when
• 4:05
  the team was ranked. Maybe there was some injuries
• 4:07
  after that. Whatever happened, I I do think
• 4:10
  teams change along the way. Teams improve, teams get worse,
• 4:15
  teams have more to play for, teams have less to play for.
• 4:20
  Again, you have injuries and all that.
• 4:22
  At the end of the day, though, my point is the pre season
• 4:25
  polls, they're fun. It gives us something to talk
• 4:29
  about. Yeah, they're pretty stupid.
• 4:31
  They don't, they don't mean a lot.
• 4:32
  They usually get it about 2/3 right.
• 4:37
  What? Maybe 3/4 right.
• 4:38
  I saw I, I think most recently that there's eight teams in the
• 4:42
  pre season top 25 that have dropped out of the poll.
• 4:46
  But I think the reason everybody obviously is talking about it so
• 4:49
  much right now, it wasn't just eight teams or however many
• 4:53
  teams are no longer in the poll. It's the fact that the big dog
• 4:57
  teams, we're talking top five teams are no longer even ranked.

  And I mentioned those teams, but you got Texas, you got Penn
• 5:08
  State. Texas was 1, Penn State 2.

  Clemson #4 But here's the other part about this.

  I always like to put myself in the shoes of the voters.

  Are you, are you that mad? Were you that mad that Texas was
• 5:25
  ranked number one? Now, I'll say this.

  Arch Manning so far has been completely, completely
• 5:32
  overrated. Maybe more overrated than any
• 5:35
  player I can remember because he was so hyped up.
• 5:38
  So that's where I think it was fair to say you hadn't seen
• 5:42
  enough from Arch Manning, who's running the show.
• 5:45
  We all know the quarterback is the most important position in
• 5:48
  in football, in all of sports. You hadn't seen enough of Arch
• 5:52
  Manning versus top competition week in, week out to have Texas
• 5:58
  number one. I think that's fair.
• 5:59
  But you look at Texas last year, what they get to the Final Four,
• 6:03
  they lose to Ohio State, They're returning a lot of talent.
• 6:06
  I don't have a, a lot of issue with Texas being #1 because of
• 6:10
  because of the roster. But again, Arch Manning,
• 6:13
  unproven Penn State, same deal. Penn State gets the Final Four,
• 6:19
  they're returning its quarterback.
• 6:20
  They play Notre Dame in the Final Four, They're coming back.
• 6:23
  Obviously, James Franklin, this has been following him for
• 6:27
  years. And ever since he's been at Penn
• 6:29
  State, he can't win the big one. Penn State ranked #2 though, I
• 6:33
  mean, I never thought Penn State was going to be better than Ohio
• 6:35
  State, But again, I don't have a ton of problems with that.

  Clemson, the way Clemson finished last year, that I know
• 6:43
  this is hindsight, but you can kind of see where that's going,
• 6:47
  where that was a bit of a reach. And also, you know, Dabo
• 6:50
  Sweeney, who had things roll in there for talking 7-8 years ago.

  Clemson, the best program in football for a couple of years
• 7:00
  there right there with Alabama. I mean, Alabama was always the
• 7:03
  best program overall under Saban.

  But we we did a a live stream a couple weeks ago where whatever

  the period of time was for Clemson, I think it was about
• 7:12
  2015 to 2020 where they were finishing the year top five or
• 7:18
  top 4, whatever it was every single year, including two
• 7:22
  national championships with two different teams, two different
• 7:25
  quarterbacks, Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence.

  But obviously Clemson this year, they're not playing like the
• 7:32
  Clemson of seven or eight years ago.

  So when you look at the movement also, how about the Missouri
• 7:39
  Tigers? That's quite a game coming up
• 7:42
  five and O Missouri Mizzou is ranked #14 in the country and
• 7:50
  they're hosting Alabama #8 Alabama four and one of the
• 7:53
  season. That's going to be a fun game to
• 7:55
  watch this coming Saturday. All right, let's talk a little

  bit too about Arch Manning again, and I don't like to pile

  on the kid. I'm not a hater, but I will say
• 8:07
  this, clearly the dude was super hyped.

  He was in all the commercials. He's got the Manning name, he's
• 8:14
  got the bloodline. He was great in high school.

  Obviously he was pretty Dang good in his couple starts last
• 8:22
  year. I believe one was a non power
• 8:24
  four team. I think the other one was
• 8:25
  Mississippi State. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  I looked that up. I believe that's the case.

  Here's the deal and I I like to be 100% honest with you guys.

  What I've watched of Arch Manning besides highlights was I

  watched that entire Ohio State game and as a Buckeyes fan, I
• 8:41
  didn't just watch it. I was locked in, and I was
• 8:44
  surprised at how bad Arch Manning played.

  He was skipping balls off off the turf.
• 8:54
  He was throwing behind guys. He he honestly looked rattled.

  His mechanics looked all janky. A lot of people have talked

  about that, but then there was excuses being made and hey, Ohio

  State's got a great defense, maybe the best defense in the
• 9:10
  country. Matt Patricia was disguising all
• 9:13
  these coverages. I get that.

  All that's true. Still, to me, it it looked like
• 9:18
  a rattled dude. It did not look like anybody who
• 9:22
  was the the preseason favorite for the Heisman Trophy.

  I know Paul Finebaum. They're they're showing the old
• 9:29
  clips of him saying that he's the greatest prospect ever or
• 9:32
  the greatest recruit ever, whatever it was.

  And I'm just thinking, besides the Manning name, and I get it

  and some great high school stats, what did Arch Manning do
• 9:43
  to to deserve all that? And let's go and look at his his
• 9:46
  stats so far this year. But again, it's not just it's
• 9:51
  not just the stats, it's also it's the eye test.

  Arch Manning 81 of 135 S, 60% completion percentage.

  Not great. 11151 yards, 8.5 yard average, 11 tuddies, 5

  interceptions rushing, 43 carries, 160 yards, 5

  touchdowns. We know he can run the ball as

  well. Been been pretty decent, not

  necessarily dynamic. And then let's go back to last

  year because he didn't play a ton obviously.

  And OK, so he played what he threw 5 passes as a true

  freshman 2023. He threw 90 passes last year,

  202461 of 90, 68% completion percentage, 9 touchdowns, 2

  interceptions. So again, those are those are
• 10:44
  good numbers. Those are good numbers for some
• 10:48
  some spot work last year. And we'll go to his game log

  last year, as I said, I'm pretty sure.

  Yeah. So he started versus University

  of Louisiana Monroe and he started against Mississippi

  State. Now he got, he got a lot of

  action versus some other teams. What is that?

  Texas San Antonio threw 4 touchdown passes because they're

  they're blowing some teams out. They're blowing some teams out.

  You know, what is that? San Antonio 56 to 7.

  He got in versus Colorado State, Louisiana Monroe, as I said.

  But you just kind of look at that and I just, I'm just

  thinking to myself, you know what, why, why did we hype him

  up so much? And I, and I get it, I get it.

  I, I get the name and all that. But, and, and maybe maybe

  something is off with the mechanics because you see him
• 11:45
  kind of slinging the ball sidearm and all that.

  It just does not look pretty whatsoever.

  November 4th. So most teams will have played

  about eight games at that point. That's the one that really

  matters. November 4th, and that one makes

  a lot more sense. You know why?

  Because all of the hoopla of the pre season is gone and you've
• 14:25
  seen these teams play 789 games. You can see some injuries.

  Who's overrated, who's underrated, who beat who?
• 14:35
  It makes sense. The college football play offs.
• 14:37
  What matters anyway? Those rankings matter.
• 14:40
  You see all the games and you're good to go.
