- 0:02you by Aura. Let's be honest, breaking in new
- 0:05skates is kind of the worst, right?
- 0:07Blisters, sore ankles, the whole deal.
- 0:09Aura is here to make that way easier.
- 0:12Their skates are built with a one piece carbon fiber shell
- 0:16that you can heat mold to your foot so they fit you and not the
- 0:19other way around. And Aura skates have an
- 0:22integrated collar system, which basically means your boot bends
- 0:27with you while giving you the support that you need.
- 0:30Translation. More skating, less complaining.

- 0:42Welcome to the Rocker skating podcast.
- 0:45This is Part 2 of our World Championships recap.
- 0:50We had so much to talk about in Part 1, including the winner of
- 0:56the March Gladness Costume of the Year, so go back and take a
- 1:00listen to that. In the meantime, we're going to
- 1:02finish talking about the whirlwind that was the final
- 1:07competition of the year, the World Figure Skating
- 1:09Championships. Let's talk about the women and
- 1:14go backwards in time. What happens with the women?
- 1:18What happened, Michelle? Oh my gosh, well you know you
- 1:26were you talked so much about 2018 worlds and how Alina just
- 1:32could not hold it together for one more competition.
- 1:34And I feel like that first year senior Itis Olympic crap post
- 1:38Olympic crash came from me because I mean she skated
- 1:42respectively but she didn't skate up to her abilities and
- 1:47was in a surprising 9th place overall.
- 1:49But Monet Chiba on the other hand, really turned it around
- 1:53after her Olympic disappointment and just laid down to amazing
- 1:56programs. I mean, I I might have had her
- 2:00first in the short program, but I was really happy to see her
- 2:03skate that that well. She she was, she was as she was
- 2:07as good as she has been. Yeah.
- 2:10Maybe. Ever.
- 2:11Yeah, the short program was just.
- 2:14It was such a different skater than we saw in 4 continents at
- 2:19the Olympics. Like the this was one of those
- 2:24where the pressures of it all really changed the whole vibe
- 2:30for her. We've talked about it in in the
- 2:33podcast. She's one of those people where
- 2:36if she is stressed out, you see it all over her.
- 2:38Face. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:40And and you didn't see that here.
- 2:42You did not see that here at all.
- 2:45And AMI, I, I keep saying this like for those of them, for
- 2:53those of you who who follow my practice notes, AMI Nakai really
- 2:58is like 15 to 20% on her triple axels in practice.
- 3:06Yeah, the music comes on and she hits it and that's it exactly.
- 3:09And she misses it all. Like what she did in the short?
- 3:11Here is what she does in practice like 80% of the time.
- 3:14Exactly. Yeah, she does like in, in
- 3:17practice, what she does is she does a lot of timers, a lot of
- 3:21like drills of single axles to two feet that that helps her get
- 3:27the right snap, the right center of balance.
- 3:32And she will then she'll do a few of those and then she'll go
- 3:36up and, and, and try for the triple Axel.
- 3:40And the thing in practice is she doesn't commit to the rotation
- 3:45of the triple Axel very often. So she will pop it a lot and
- 3:49she'll she'll pop it and do like 2 rotations or 2 1/2 rotations.
- 3:55And, and like Michelle said that that pop that she she did in the
- 4:00short program where she went 2 1/2 rotations and did a double
- 4:03Axel and landed on 2 feet. That was kind of muscle memory
- 4:07for her because that that is what happens.
- 4:09If she's just a little bit off and she doesn't commit to
- 4:13pulling into that jump, she will absolutely pop out of it.
- 4:19And, and the same thing in in the freeze case, she went 2 1/2,
- 4:23almost 3 and and, and bailed out of it.
- 4:26And the, the ones that she did at the Olympics were the ones
- 4:32where it was like she, she, she got the right take off and she
- 4:38she held it in. It's it's, it's rare for her to
- 4:43rotate the triple Axel and fall because when she does rotate it,
- 4:49it's usually because it's in the right axis and and she and she
- 4:54feels it correctly. So.
- 4:57But she did win best newcomer. Yeah, for.
- 5:00For the ISU awards, I mean, I think I.
- 5:02Voted for her for that, Yeah. I don't remember who else was
- 5:05nominated. I, I, I, I don't, I don't know
- 5:07if there's anybody else who is more worthy, I mean.
- 5:09No. To, to be, to, to have beaten
- 5:11Kaori Sakamoto. Yeah, she had.
- 5:14It in the fall I mean. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:16And yeah, and and and then getting the Olympics bronze
- 5:20medal, like, yeah, you know, she I'm sure she's disappointed that
- 5:25she didn't skate as well here, but she's a freaking Olympic
- 5:30medalist. So yeah, that's that's how you
- 5:33go. But Speaking of Kaori Sakamoto,
- 5:35she. Was so good.
- 5:37It was so good. It was so emotional.
- 5:43And I was like, so nervous in the second-half of her program.
- 5:47I was like, Oh my gosh, you know?
- 5:51But she hit those combos beautifully.
- 5:53And yeah, I was happy for her to finish, finish her career that
- 5:56way on such a high. I just, it's just, it's hard
- 6:00because I really wish he could have done it a couple weeks ago.
- 6:03Yeah, yeah, yeah. We talked about, we talked about
- 6:06how this was, this was a dream ending.
- 6:09But really, the dream ending should have come in Milan.
- 6:16But without what happened in Milan, this wouldn't have
- 6:20happened in Prague. I mean, you know, I, I, I'm, I,
- 6:24what I'm happy about is even if that didn't happen at the
- 6:28Olympics, that it did happen somewhere.
- 6:30And that she can close out her career feeling like she left it
- 6:35all out there on the ice. You know, I, I, I, I was crying
- 6:42at Japanese nationals. I was crying at the Olympics for
- 6:45no, for a very different reasons.
- 6:47And then here it was. It was.
- 6:49Yeah. Yeah, ugly crying all over the
- 6:52place. Yeah.
- 6:54In a nosebleeds. I was crying in my car in
- 6:58Venice. I pulled over to watch this on
- 7:00my phone. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:04I did, really. Yelling at the phone in this
- 7:06last group and then I got really emotional for the last two, so
- 7:12yeah. And what a.
- 7:13Great. Event I could have I could have
- 7:15like guessed 10 different times and I would not have picked Nina
- 7:19Pinzerone as the surprise bronze medalist with no rotation calls.
- 7:24I mean over 1500 people did did prediction central on on rocker
- 7:30skating live and one person picked Nina Pinzerone for 3rd.
- 7:34Wow, OK, you're there in person. How did her jump rotations look
- 7:39to you? So in the short, I thought the
- 7:43combo should have been called it was It was reviewed.
- 7:48The short 1 was reviewed in the free I thought the combo should
- 7:54have been reviewed. It was not reviewed.
- 7:56But everything else was clean. Like I that's that's what I saw.
- 8:00She was as clean as she has been in a long time.
- 8:06But I was very surprised at that combo did not no, no, no, no,
- 8:09no, no, no. In the short, it did not get
- 8:12reviewed in the free it did get reviewed and it and it and it
- 8:15didn't get a call. And and I, I remember being
- 8:17like, what do you mean I didn't get a call?
- 8:21Yeah. Either either way though, it
- 8:25call or not, she deserved that bronze medal.
- 8:28OK, I mean, yeah, I mean, she skated really well, especially
- 8:32like, you know, considering the rest of her season.
- 8:34But it was wild. The like, I know, but yeah, so
- 8:45I, I feel for Isabel. This is I think the third time
- 8:47she's been 4th at Worlds. Third time or second time last
- 8:50year she was she was fourth. And she was fourth, I think once
- 8:53before that. Yeah, 4244 that she's been world
- 9:00pewter medalist, something that does not exist.
- 9:03That's rough. Yeah, it was very.
- 9:07I thought it was very impressive that she went for the Lutz loop
- 9:11Brave, but she looked like she was going just glacially slowly
- 9:16into her jumps in the program, especially that opening combo.
- 9:19And I don't know if that was nerves or or what, but.
- 9:24I, I'll, I will say it that Lutz loop is a better combo for her
- 9:28than the the flip toe like it, it, it's aesthetically a better
- 9:31combo. It is rotationally, frankly, a
- 9:35better combo for her and and in practice and in warm up.
- 9:43The amount of hesitation that she has or the amount of time
- 9:49she takes between the Lutz landing and the loot take off is
- 9:54a lot less than the the two times that she did it in
- 9:58competition. In the short, yeah, it's she
- 10:03slows down, but then she also will ride that outside edge on
- 10:07the landing a lot, just a lot longer.
- 10:10And by a lot longer, I mean like a very split second longer to
- 10:14the point where you notice it like the the we've seen other
- 10:20Lutz loops, right? Like, you know, Ioki's let's
- 10:23loop and Mickey Ando's let's loop and Truseva Truseva's Yeah,
- 10:29let's loops. She would.
- 10:31Barely touch the ice in between, yeah.
- 10:32They literally just like bounce up, bounce down.
- 10:34It's a it's very Pogo stick. We talked about this in in the
- 10:40on the first day and and Isabel's isn't quite like that,
- 10:47but it it she usually does do it's a it's a very natural sort
- 10:51of like RIP up to the to the triple loop in the short
- 10:55program. You saw it hesitate a little
- 10:57bit, but she got the rotation and it was fine in the free
- 10:59skate. It was just that much longer of
- 11:03a split second that that it just she lost all the momentum that
- 11:07she would she had to get that loop up.
- 11:09So it's very tough. And then Amber third in the
- 11:17short and that free skate. I just it's it's it's really
- 11:21frustrating because she can start so strong and then sort of
- 11:24come unglued and, you know, she's done so much work on the
- 11:29mental side and you just want it for her so much.
- 11:33But you know, she, you know, after, after that performance,
- 11:38she seemed like she was sort of at peace with what had happened.
- 11:41Like she had sort of accepted it and like was overall happy with
- 11:45how the season had gone and wasn't like leaving on bad
- 11:48terms, like unfinished business. But like, as a viewer, it was
- 11:51killing me because I was just like, I really, I really thought
- 11:54like I never, it was right there because I just can't trust her.
- 11:57But it was like right there. It was right.
- 11:59There, put her on my podium. It was right there and, and, and
- 12:03she hit the triple Axel, she hit the flip toe, she hit the Lutz
- 12:07toe it. Was beautiful the.
- 12:08First three were so good. Yeah.
- 12:12And then there it went. It's.
- 12:15Just crazy how mental skating can be because most people would
- 12:19give anything to have Amber's talent and her jump technique
- 12:23and her ease of doing it and the fact she can't put it together
- 12:27mentally under pressure is just, it's so frustrating.
- 12:31And I mean, it's just must be even more frustrating for her.
- 12:34Absolutely. I mean he jumps so easily.
- 12:37The the, the, the thing that that just kills you is that you
- 12:44watch her practice. She never pops anything.
- 12:48No. Like the entire week of practice
- 12:52maybe? I see I saw her pop 2 jumps.
- 12:55Yeah. That's outside the axle.
- 12:58But like these are her favorite jumps.
- 13:02The flip and the loop are her favorite jumps and that's why
- 13:06she has it in the back half. She can do them with her phone
- 13:09in her hand. I know, I know it's just, I and
- 13:16she said, she said she got lost in that second-half and you
- 13:20could see it. And, and I've made this
- 13:22reference before on, on the show.
- 13:26It's so reminds me of Nicole Bobeck 1995 at worlds where it
- 13:32was just this like beautiful booming start to her free skate.
- 13:36And then that second-half just unravels and, and it's it, it's
- 13:41this, it's just the same where you're thinking too much or
- 13:45you're not, you're not in the right state of mind or whatever.
- 13:47And and it affects her so much more.
- 13:51OK, someone, this girl tweeted VM stage mom.
- 13:55If you follow her on Twitter, she said Nicole Bobeck left her
- 13:57in a basket at a Firehouse. And I feel like that is that
- 14:03sums it up. You know, Nicole Bobeck had a
- 14:06had a had a world bronze medal that year.
- 14:08She did. She did.
- 14:10It's. Just it's a different kind of
- 14:11time now. Yeah, I yeah, but but our our
- 14:17our fave Shagnaki 5th place at worlds.
- 14:20That's amazing for her. That's awesome.
- 14:23Sharknaki the the she she finally skated that free skate
- 14:32almost to the potentials. I think she, you know, she had a
- 14:35couple of queues, but it was it was very well received.
- 14:40Her short was good, her free was good.
- 14:42She was finally putting it out there and I, I hope, I hope she
- 14:51continues. And Italy gets 2 spots.
- 14:54And Italy gets 2 spots finally. Yeah.
- 14:57It's been a while this, you know, Lara Naki Gutman has come
- 15:02a long ways the last Four Seasons.
- 15:04She went from not being able to qualify for a spot at the
- 15:09Olympics in 2022. First alternate.
- 15:13To top five at worlds here and to, you know, for real being the
- 15:22best women's skater from Italy since Carolina Costner like.
- 15:28She was the first alternate and wasn't Emmy Zingis the second?
- 15:32I think so, yeah. Yeah.
- 15:33That's wow, that's pretty. Cool.
- 15:35Did Wait, No. Did she try?
- 15:37Actually, yeah. I thought I thought it was.
- 15:40Wasn't. I thought it was Keetramil.
- 15:42No, they sent Keetramil is 1 Autumn Classic, and then they
- 15:45sent Zingis to Neville Horn and we were very confused about it
- 15:49because it was like this girl just won this competition.
- 15:51But yeah, so I don't know. Who are the two alternates this
- 15:56year? We'll be talking about them in
- 15:57four years. Who were the alternates?
- 16:02Stefania Yakovleva and I forgot who the other one was.
- 16:07Well, Stefania Yakovleva Cypress so.
- 16:10Yeah, another, another. On the dance podium, the 20th.
- 16:13Another. Another Cyprian.
- 16:15Yeah. Wow, yeah, what a crazy, what a
- 16:21crazy few years. But but yeah, Lara Naki Goodman.
- 16:26Well done to shark Naki. So for the women, oh, oh, I'm
- 16:33not going to not talk about how Jia Shin was fourth in the free
- 16:38skate. I'm glad she finally figured it
- 16:41out, even if it took her all season to like get performances
- 16:44out like that in major international events.
- 16:47But then she didn't that that short program, that short
- 16:51program again was an issue with her, you know?
- 16:54What's going to happen is she's going to be, she's going to have
- 16:56it figured out. She's going to be great all next
- 16:58season and she's going to have to deal with Mao Shimada again.
- 17:02They're going to be 1/2 at worlds next year.
- 17:05Oh my God, that's crazy. Nina Petrokina ends up 7th.
- 17:12She she wasn't as sharp as she was at the Olympics or at
- 17:15Europeans, but it was, it was, you know, it was great to see
- 17:19her continue to be doing what she's doing in practices.
- 17:23She was doing, she was trying triple axels.
- 17:25She was trying quad toes. Whoa, nice.
- 17:29And she landed 1 quad toe that was under.
- 17:33Oh good. Well, on 2 on like 2 feet, but
- 17:36it was it was close. It was close, yeah.
- 17:40So that was interesting to watch.
- 17:42And you know, Hay and Lee was landing triple axels in, in
- 17:46practice, unfortunately just not anywhere near what she has the
- 17:53potential to do and ends up outside the top 10.
- 17:58But that was that was your women's event.
- 18:00Japan gets 3 spots, the US gets 3 spots.
- 18:04So those are your those are your three spot quotas for next year
- 18:09for the women. Belgium keeps their two spots,
- 18:15which was a question mark coming in given that it was it was
- 18:18really Nina Pinzarone having to kind of shoulder the the the
- 18:23responsibility given that Luna Hendricks was in here and Yada
- 18:26Hovine, who's who is a law student was it was.
- 18:33Oh my God. So excited to, yeah, so excited
- 18:36to be here. But also she is a law student
- 18:38trying to also be an elite figure skater.
- 18:41So. So Belgium keeps their two
- 18:44spots, Italy, as we said, two spots.
- 18:47Estonia keeps their two spots, South Korea keeps their two
- 18:54spots and Georgia has two spots, which means when Inga Gurkinitze
- 19:01comes up to senior, yes, she will also get a spot.
- 19:06I don't know if I don't know if Kubanova's sticking around, but
- 19:09if she does we got 2 spots. For Georgia, yeah.
- 19:15Shall we go to pairs? Mm hmm.
- 19:18Oh yeah. Oh, pairs.
- 19:21I think we both expected this to happen, did we?
- 19:24No. You expected Pavlova's
- 19:26Fiacchenko to win. No.
- 19:29I said I, I said hasa volden I but you?
- 19:31Said Pavlova's second. Yeah, I did.
- 19:33I. Did and we both agreed they were
- 19:35going to have two awesome skates.
- 19:37Like what? Happened.
- 19:42That that is the post Olympic world's weirdness.
- 19:46But it was not on a team I expected it from, right?
- 19:49You know, like there, there was some tired skating there.
- 19:53That's it's very like for, for real.
- 19:55There were people who were just like, I am so done.
- 19:58And, and I think Pavlovos Fiachenko was absolutely one of
- 20:02them. Metalkina Berrulovo was also
- 20:05another one of them. And you know, it's, it was,
- 20:12yeah, it was, it was, it was, it was.
- 20:14It was tough to watch for Pavlovos Fiachenko because they
- 20:16had such a. Such a chance at the podium,
- 20:21this. Year I had the Hungary Hungarian
- 20:25stat ready and everything. We were ready to go.
- 20:30Yeah. They will be world medalists.
- 20:32Maybe not this year I don't, but next year or the year after, at
- 20:35some point I. I don't doubt it, but you know
- 20:39who did get the bronze? Yeah.
- 20:42Pretty sure. They were so good they.
- 20:46Were so good. That short program is so
- 20:48freaking good. Their free skate was great too.
- 20:52Yep, they they just they just had such AI mean I when I
- 20:59interviewed. Them I might have had them in
- 21:01second here honestly. I would have, I totally would
- 21:05have. But the problem, the problem
- 21:07with them was it's the same thing that that I was asking
- 21:10about at the Olympics. They don't have a three jump
- 21:12combo at the free skate, so they they give away a lot of points
- 21:16by not putting that that second double Axel in there.
- 21:19Well now, now we we don't have it anymore because the pairs
- 21:21won't be doing that anymore. Thank God.
- 21:24Thank God with the new rules, but they actually do a good one.
- 21:27Like they, they're really strong single skaters and, and their
- 21:32triple toe double Axel, double Axel is really nice.
- 21:34But they, they've been, they were doing that at the Olympics.
- 21:38They played it, they played it safe with the with the triple
- 21:41toe double Axel and stopped at that.
- 21:44And they did not add it for for the World Championships.
- 21:48And had they added it for the World Championships, that would
- 21:51have been three to four points. That would have absolutely been
- 21:54silver. Yeah, but I agree.
- 21:56I I thought they should have been silver as well.
- 22:00The George team, some of their elements are sensational and
- 22:04then some of their other elements are not.
- 22:07And I feel like their lifts and some of their choreographic
- 22:11stuff, they just get these huge GOES and it's like give them
- 22:15huge GOES on their clean throws and their solo jumps.
- 22:18For sure. The lift should not have those
- 22:20high GOESI mean, yes, they have ice coverage.
- 22:23Her position is good, but somewhere in there it should be.
- 22:27It should come down a little bit, just a little bit.
- 22:30It really the the lifts are one of those things where from the
- 22:34nosebleeds where I was sitting. Oh God.
- 22:38You really saw the difference with like I agree with you on
- 22:46the footwork and the way that he somebody, somebody who really
- 22:53knows pairs was telling me the way that he leads her on the
- 22:59lift is not good technique like she should be doing.
- 23:04She should be doing more of the leading given that she's the one
- 23:08who's up there. But but anyway, I I don't know
- 23:12the technicalities of that, but those two things should
- 23:16absolutely be making a dent in their grades of execution.
- 23:23But the fact of the matter is they get some of the biggest ice
- 23:27coverage on those lifts. And and as a as a judge, you it
- 23:35it, yeah, you kind of get swept up by the fact that they cover
- 23:40so much ice on it. And and like, not in a pretty
- 23:43way with his footwork. Yeah.
- 23:45I think we need lifts that work to be part of the GOE criteria
- 23:49more in a more articulated way. Yeah, but yeah, you know, Hassa
- 23:55Volodin. Yeah.
- 23:57They they finally did it. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:01And Alia Sapchenko was there to see it.
- 24:03First world title for Germany since her and Bruno in 2018.
- 24:08You know the, the, the history of pair skating in Germany has
- 24:15been very rich and then you know, Kosovoloden now continue
- 24:18it. Haka Kunkel did a good job here
- 24:22as well. They were 7th and.
- 24:27Yeah. And and the headbanger at the
- 24:30end. The Headbanger.
- 24:31Was awesome. I was going to say, like I spent
- 24:34three weeks of this year watching them practice every day
- 24:36and it's like I saw them, but watching them on TV, for some
- 24:39reason it really stood out to me how beautiful their posture is.
- 24:42Like so much better than anybody.
- 24:43I mean, they are just just straightest backs in the Paris
- 24:48event. Beautiful.
- 24:50And the and those lifts I mean not not lifts the the the throws
- 24:54are when. Gorgeous.
- 24:55When Minerva hits those throws, they're just like they not only
- 25:01have the the great carriage and stuff, but like she just flies.
- 25:06You're you're talking about Haka Kukul.
- 25:08Yeah, yeah. But also, yes.
- 25:11Also yes to the throws from Haka Kukul.
- 25:14All of that. Yeah.
- 25:16Yeah. I I thought Hassa Volden
- 25:21probably could not have done that free skate much better than
- 25:25that. Like even with the the error on
- 25:29the sales again, it it was it was as good as that program can
- 25:35get in terms of the the artistic side of.
- 25:39It I still can. I still can.
- 25:41I still can with that program we.
- 25:44Felt like such a downer to end unexciting event on to.
- 25:47I mean, you know, them getting their scores and everything was
- 25:50exciting, but that when that music started, it was like, oh,
- 25:52here we go again. I just, you know, please, just I
- 25:57don't know, maybe maybe a different choreographer next
- 26:00season. That would be great.
- 26:02I mean, Mark Palais has done a lot of good work for them.
- 26:05You know, like their, their short program is, is a Mark
- 26:09Polay program. It's like, it's, it's a very
- 26:11good like it, it, it's dynamic, it it works out very well.
- 26:16But you know what was exciting? Nakaoka Morikuchi.
- 26:22Wow. That was out of this world.
- 26:26They were so good. It was like, yes, yes, you know.
- 26:29And you know what? You've been teasing this all
- 26:31year. You like they could be world
- 26:32medalist. I know.
- 26:33And they almost were. They were so close.
- 26:37It just goes to show the kind of potential that they have.
- 26:41It really we knew that it was they we knew that they were good
- 26:48and and we know that there's they're still pretty new and
- 26:52there's a lot that they can improve on in their pairing.
- 26:55There's a lot that they can improve on a lot of things, but
- 26:59they've got such a great foundation and and it's it's
- 27:05it's great to see them be able to do what they did here.
- 27:08And for them to have had the disappointment at the Olympics
- 27:12of not making it into the free skate and then coming here and
- 27:16getting 4th and getting getting third in the free skate in the
- 27:21world. Small medal like that's really.
- 27:24Great. Yeah.
- 27:26I love their skating. It's, it's just, it's, it's,
- 27:29it's so beautifully done. Efimova, Mitrofanov continue to
- 27:35show that they are absolutely the the ones you can count on,
- 27:41Really. Well, that short program was not
- 27:46what I expected from them. They they were better, stronger
- 27:49in the free skate. But yeah.
- 27:53Hand down, hand down on the throw.
- 27:55I mean, I like with with Elisa with and her and her solo jumps.
- 28:02You're always kind of like holding your breath for it.
- 28:04So did. You did you know that ETA
- 28:07Karhunen's coach is her mom? I didn't.
- 28:11Realize is FEMA's mom. Yes, I didn't realize that until
- 28:14Mark said it on the World Feed I.
- 28:16Had no idea. I know me either.
- 28:21I'm just like, that's one other reason we could have talked
- 28:23about her wanting to be at the Olympic.
- 28:24I don't know. Her mom's going to be there.
- 28:26Mom got to go and she didn't. Well, Alyssa, a few of us can
- 28:31can go to Worlds next year in Finland.
- 28:34Yeah, that's true. So that that's.
- 28:37Yeah. Her home country or her native
- 28:43born country. So it was, it was a, it was a
- 28:49good event, I thought with the pairs at the the the one real
- 28:54downer was Chan and Howe and how they they ended their season,
- 28:59especially after such a phenomenal Olympics for them.
- 29:03Yeah, and a good short program here.
- 29:05And a good short program and that that those falls on that
- 29:11free skate were just. Like, yeah.
- 29:15I don't know how her shoulder survived those falls, it was
- 29:18just so. Crazy.
- 29:20Rough. Yeah.
- 29:23I was excited that we got like China and Armenia and
- 29:26Switzerland in the top 10. So all of those countries are
- 29:30going to have two spots next year, which is like good for
- 29:32them. I mean, Armenia, Ari Zakarian's
- 29:37going to be busy like finding some Armenian pairs this summer.
- 29:40He's he's going to find one. They're not going to let that
- 29:42spot go like Georgia does. Ari Zakarian is going to come
- 29:45back himself and start skating again so that they can that they
- 29:48can fill that second spot for the pairs.
- 29:52But isn't it weird for us to say China finally gets a second spot
- 29:56again? China used to be the one of the
- 29:59ones that had always 3 in any combination.
- 30:01You can take their second and third place teams.
- 30:03You get 3 spots. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:06So and we we know they have a good pipeline in the juniors
- 30:11finally again. So so the that's and Wenjing
- 30:16sway will be selling her coffee in her mobile home.
- 30:20Let's go. And she just got elected to the
- 30:24Athletes Council for pairs, so. She's going to show up in her
- 30:27her caravan with her meerkat to their meetings.
- 30:32Yes, yes, yes. OK.
- 30:34So Germany three spots for next year, Georgia 3 spots for next
- 30:40year. Where are the Georgian pairs?
- 30:44There are none. Go shopping.
- 30:47Come. On Canada keeps their two spots,
- 30:51Japan keeps their two spots, Hungary gets 2 spots, United
- 30:55States gets 2 spots. So they lose a spot.
- 31:03I'm going to say something controversial and UN American.
- 31:07Yes, I think Mcbeth and Parkman should be skating for Georgia.
- 31:13It's not like it's hard to get citizenship and you know.
- 31:16Probably would have been easier. Yeah, they could have gone to
- 31:19the Olympics. I mean, yeah, yeah.
- 31:23Anyway. For those of you who don't know,
- 31:27Daniel Parkman skated for Georgia with Anastasia
- 31:33Metalkina. Yeah.
- 31:35For a few years as a junior. So Armenia, as we said, Armenia,
- 31:41China, Switzerland all get 2 spots.
- 31:43So those were the quotas for next year.
- 31:48Mm Hmm. All right men.
- 31:49Oh. Boy.
- 31:51There was a lack of menning in men.
- 31:56I was going to say the menning started in the shore program.
- 31:58Well, just that one. Kevin. 05.
- 32:05There were more. Kevin did a little Nika little
- 32:07bit of mening. There were more.
- 32:09Cow was mening Cow. Yeah, poor cow.
- 32:13Yeah. Cal Miura did not qualify for
- 32:16the free skate. Honestly, I feel like, Oh yeah,
- 32:20cow is I feel like Adam Siaowen finishing second and Solevko
- 32:28finishing third in the short program.
- 32:30Those skates, well that was like pre menning because you knew the
- 32:35menning was like that was like well we're going to have a big
- 32:38spread if we're going to be second at these guys are going
- 32:40to be second and third after the shore program.
- 32:42Touché, touché. I don't know.
- 32:46I was more reacting to the fact that like the last four, the
- 32:49last four free skates that we saw at the Olympics were a shit
- 32:54show. And it was not like we ended
- 32:58that free skate in in a rough spot and and we did not hear it
- 33:04was it was very nice that we did not.
- 33:08But yes, agreed like that. That short program had some
- 33:11surprises, one of which was Yuma Kagiyama's wax soul after having
- 33:19a. The short program was fantastic
- 33:21for him right up until he tried to go up for the axle and he
- 33:26completely. This was like Mao Asada 22,008.
- 33:30Yeah, I'd buy into the conspiracy theory that he caught
- 33:33a deep edge, a rut. I saw a close up of his foot and
- 33:36I was like, he did. He did, yeah.
- 33:40Yeah, oh, so sad with that. But you know what though?
- 33:46That free skate. Oh my.
- 33:48Gosh. Human dough.
- 33:49Legendary. That was incredible.
- 33:52That was everything we wanted and more.
- 33:54Yeah. I mean, you know, it was, it's
- 33:57the same thing I said with Calorie, right?
- 33:59Like disappointment. Aside from the Olympics, at
- 34:03least we finally got that showing.
- 34:06I mean, Calorie has been skating the program fine all season.
- 34:09But like Yuma Yuma, it's been so hard for him to put down a good
- 34:14clean free skate. And it finally got finally got
- 34:19there. Yeah.
- 34:22And he was just so much more open and.
- 34:25His He was so excited. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:29So good. Like he really, he really does
- 34:34when he is clean. His body language is so
- 34:38different on, on these the, you know, the presentation mark goes
- 34:43from an 8.75 to a 9.75 kind of different to an 11 to an 11.
- 34:52It, it was, it was really, really just beautifully done
- 34:55and, and what a way for him to finish his season.
- 35:00And, you know, we don't know if he's going to continue the next
- 35:03four years. And what was interesting though,
- 35:08was in the press conference and afterwards when he was talking
- 35:14to Japanese media, there was a lot of pushback from all three
- 35:21of of the medalists. I'm talking about Ilia.
- 35:23I'm talking about Yuma. I'm talking about Shun, about
- 35:28the potential changes, like the, the drastic changes.
- 35:31I'm not talking about like the little changes, the the like
- 35:35potential proposed changes to how the ISU does figure skating.
- 35:43Yuma was literally like, like this is this is both interpreted
- 35:50on the spot. And I also made sure that I got
- 35:53the right wording for it afterwards because I don't want
- 35:55to misquote him. But he was basically like the
- 35:59way that that we're skating right now, the way that figure
- 36:03skating is right now, we don't want it to change.
- 36:07We don't want to change it that much if we're if if it's going
- 36:09to change. Yeah.
- 36:10Like the ISU should be working on other stuff.
- 36:13They have other stuff that they should be working on, like music
- 36:16rights, like, oh, wow. You know, like.
- 36:19I was thinking saving the rhythm dance from the nightmare it's
- 36:22become but. Like he was basically saying
- 36:25like, don't change this, it's working.
- 36:28Yeah, there are other things that you should be working on
- 36:30ISU. And then Ilya after that was
- 36:34like, yeah, you know, like the ISU, you guys need us more than
- 36:40we need you, which was very like a very interesting the the two
- 36:44top guys being very defiant about the changes in the
- 36:50potential changes in the rules. Again, we know that there are
- 36:54certain things that they're going to change already those
- 36:56have been ratified for for a couple of years now.
- 37:00And the things that we have been hearing about the potential
- 37:05proposals of the, you know, eliminating a program or making
- 37:14an artistic program or whatever, like we're, we're not.
- 37:17Every other week. Yeah, or what all all of these
- 37:20things, they're literally like the athletes are saying, don't
- 37:25mess with what we have right now.
- 37:27Let us continue to improve on what we have right now.
- 37:30Don't make those drastic changes.
- 37:35It was really interesting to hear that.
- 37:39Yeah, it's interesting to the ISU has put so much effort into
- 37:44building Ilya up like he's a God.
- 37:46I mean, the promo of him around this event was crazy.
- 37:50I mean, and then you had Thomas Verner asking him, like, are you
- 37:52the greatest of the 21st century?
- 37:54And then Italy, unfortunately, being like, yeah, oh, yeah,
- 37:58yeah, he said. It's really clear you're like,
- 37:59the greatest skater of the 20th century, 21st century.
- 38:02Do you think you are? And Ilia was like, yeah, I do.
- 38:06That part was a great but like. So, so wait, so are we?
- 38:09Are we forgetting about Yuzu and Nathan Chen?
- 38:13Evgeny Blushenko has four Olympic.
- 38:15Mats and OK Blushenko. He had them on this weekend and
- 38:18Nafka's show. I saw a picture of him.
- 38:20He had all four of them on. I know, I mean, you know, I
- 38:24mean, I feel like there are people in this competition that
- 38:26would get that title before Ilia would like anyway, but still
- 38:29like that. I felt like there was this and
- 38:31then the advertising and that picture of Ilia and his coat in
- 38:34Prague that was like, not that was like photoshopped together
- 38:37to promote the event. Like they are building him up to
- 38:39be the superhero and yet bringing up these ideas of
- 38:43changing the sport in a way that would really like,
- 38:45disenfranchise him, like take away what makes him so great.
- 38:48I mean. You know nothing is confusing.
- 38:51You know, the, the, the, the marketing and social media teams
- 38:55are very different than the, the technical pan or whatever
- 38:59technical groups and stuff, right?
- 39:01Like. We need someone at the top with
- 39:02some oversight. I don't want to do it but some.
- 39:06Of them are talking to do it. None of them are talking to each
- 39:08other on that. But yeah, agreed.
- 39:10Like the the, the gist of, and Shin Sato was also part of this
- 39:16conversation. And he also was like, he was
- 39:20like the, the gist of the what the three guys were saying in
- 39:24the press conference and afterwards was like, look, look
- 39:27around us. We have sold out crowds
- 39:31everywhere over the past few years in at, at at the biggest
- 39:36events. It's not they're, it's not sold
- 39:40out because we're doing everything wrong.
- 39:43And you need to, you need, you need to like basically change
- 39:46the whole thing like that. That was, that was, that was
- 39:52the, the thing that, that, that was so interesting about what
- 39:56they were they were saying and, and the fact that they were so
- 39:58vocal about it. And it's, it's time.
- 40:01It really is time. Like the athletes need to have
- 40:03their voices heard here before Congress goes into session in a
- 40:09couple months for them to be voting on whatever these
- 40:12proposals may or may not be, because we don't know yet.
- 40:15We still don't know what the actual proposals are going to be
- 40:18because they haven't been put on paper.
- 40:20Yeah, interesting. Yeah.
- 40:23Ilya, though, what a, what a fantastic comeback.
- 40:27And he really, he really turned a new leaf for this week.
- 40:33And I think the last couple of weeks he's turned a new leaf.
- 40:37Like the, the way that he approached worlds, the way that
- 40:41he was really like focused on his training and he, you know,
- 40:45he didn't do as many media things.
- 40:48He was very much like, Hey, I'm, I'm, I'm doing this like I, I
- 40:54need to focus on world. And there was one practice, I
- 40:58think maybe it was on Wednesday or Thursday, where I have not
- 41:04seen him be as locked in as he was in that practice.
- 41:10I in a very long time. It was just like, he was so
- 41:13clinical in what he was doing. He was so calm and like
- 41:18everything was just pristine. It was beautifully done in, in,
- 41:22in that practice. And it was really then that I
- 41:25was like, OK, we're not going to see that Olympics Ilia this time
- 41:31around. Well, I mean, not at worlds, I
- 41:34mean at the Olympic pressure though, is is different.
- 41:36I mean, I didn't think we were going to see it here, but.
- 41:41I was still not really sure if I was.
- 41:42Being honest with you, I mean, I think his free skate was, it
- 41:47was, you know, he really delivered it confidently and I
- 41:50think it was, it was a great step for him.
- 41:53I am wondering though, like I felt like his jumps in it, just
- 41:58the landings, I felt like they didn't have the like cleanliness
- 42:02that we're used to seeing from him.
- 42:04And I wondered what you thought seeing that in in real time.
- 42:08Yeah, I mean, so I I scored that program on
- 42:12live.rockerskating.com and and when I scored it, I gave it a
- 42:18211 and he got a 218 or something.
- 42:22And one of the big differences was the GOES for, for a lot of
- 42:26those jumps, like they were landed and most of them were
- 42:31clean. I think there were a couple of
- 42:32them that they could have reviewed and they didn't.
- 42:37They were landed, but they were not they were not as strong as
- 42:43as they could have been. Like the quad toe, triple toe
- 42:45was fine, right? The opening flip was a little
- 42:49scratchy. The Lutz, the solo Lutz was a
- 42:52little scratchy. The triple flip, he sort of
- 42:56like, you know, was a little open on his hip and and held on
- 43:00to like some some of those jumps were like, did they deserve twos
- 43:06and threes? Yes.
- 43:07Did they deserve threes, fours and fives?
- 43:09No. Yeah.
- 43:10I. Mean that.
- 43:11Opening quad flip, there was like a little spray of snow on
- 43:14the landing. There was.
- 43:15Yeah, there was. It was.
- 43:16Very telling. But it was interesting from from
- 43:19my perspective, the nosebleeds perspective that that quad flip
- 43:24looked clean. It just looked like he was, he
- 43:27was a little bit over over the toe pick on it, which is where
- 43:31the, the snow flew up. But I have to see where I, like
- 43:37I said, I have not had a chance to watch anything.
- 43:39So, so I have to take a look at that.
- 43:42But but agreed. I, I, I, I thought, I thought
- 43:45that the, the grades of execution were maybe a little
- 43:48bit generous. It was the same thing with Yuma,
- 43:51if I'm being honest with you, like Yuma is there were, you
- 43:55know, the, what was it? The the, the, the triple flip
- 44:00triple loop could have gotten lower GOES the the triple Axel
- 44:07double Axel could have gotten lower GOES like like both of
- 44:11them had jumps where they were overscored on the grades of
- 44:17execution of it all. And I'm just like, like, like, I
- 44:21know they landed at judges, but. You're getting carried away.
- 44:27Yeah. Like you're not reviewing the
- 44:29actual. Element they shouldn't be
- 44:30getting those kinds of of of things.
- 44:34I think there were people who were asking me also like why did
- 44:37Yuma's last triple Axel not get higher?
- 44:41GOESI thought it was actually scored correctly.
- 44:44His last triple Axel in in the Turndo program is actually very
- 44:49slow. He comes out of the the triple
- 44:53flip, triple loop and he actually doesn't have enough
- 44:56time to build up the speed that he usually does into the into a,
- 45:00into a triple Axel. And and it's it, it, it never is
- 45:04that fast of a jump And it, it's not a + 4 kind of jump.
- 45:08It's like a + 2 or plus three kind.
- 45:10Of jump like planned that way. It planned that way.
- 45:13Yeah. Because it's it, it just it the
- 45:15pattern just isn't there for it. Yeah.
- 45:18So, yeah, I, I agree. I agree with you on that.
- 45:23But the the, the standings were correct, obviously.
- 45:26And and you know, Ilya gets his third world title.
- 45:31Yuma gets his 97th silver medal. Yeah.
- 45:38Silver medal king. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:41It just, it was just hilarious because every time Ashley
- 45:44introduced him, it was like, and here's the here's the reigning
- 45:50silver medalist and the Olympics individual silver medalist and
- 45:55the Olympic team silver medalist and the and the five time blah,
- 46:01blah, blah silver medalist. Yeah, so.
- 46:04It's I was like, how many times did you have to say silver?
- 46:08Ashley? He will always be famous for
- 46:12being a silver medalist. Yeah, the the jump GOE thing, I
- 46:18feel like when Go to points was designed and it's like the the
- 46:22idea was the way it's written is that everyone is judged fairly
- 46:25just on the element, the elements just judged by itself.
- 46:27And I really feel the last couple seasons we've gotten away
- 46:30from that and we're starting to do sort of a six point O type of
- 46:33thing, like, oh, this is this is the best skater, so he's going
- 46:36to get extra GOE on everything. I think we saw that in Ilya's
- 46:39short program when he got a perfect score in his step
- 46:41sequence, which was like, come on.
- 46:45And I people were pointing it out in dance and I really feel
- 46:48like it's true. Hana Lim and Yaquan on their
- 46:53lifts, they're getting like twos and threes on them and those
- 46:56lifts are extraordinary. And I'm like that, that you
- 47:02don't give that first group of the free dance GOE like you give
- 47:06it GOE based on how good it is. Yeah, which is so interesting
- 47:10about which is actually going back to Hannah Lemon Yequan's
- 47:13lifts. It's so interesting that he
- 47:15doesn't that they they their free dance lifts are so good,
- 47:20but their rhythm dance lift is so labored.
- 47:25Yeah, maybe it goes to the passion and the creation of the
- 47:29element because yeah, their free dance is special to them.
- 47:33It's similarly to Smart and Deek, right?
- 47:36Like their rhythm dance lift is like, OK, like, yeah, nice
- 47:41straight line lifts or light nice curve lift, but it's like,
- 47:45it's not the kind of creativity that you see in the free dance
- 47:47anyway. You have a lot.
- 47:48More to do in the rhythm dance too.
- 47:50So I feel like you have other elements and you don't get to do
- 47:52the big setup and everything and I don't know, maybe you're
- 47:54tired, I don't know. No, but but to your pure point
- 47:58about the GOESI was seeing the same things when I was live
- 48:02scoring, especially the men. Like there were skaters earlier
- 48:08on in in the in the groups where I was like, yeah, that like you
- 48:14Dong Chen, for example, his quad sound triple toe should have
- 48:19gotten plus threes and stuff. And they were probably getting
- 48:22plus ones and plus twos and and there there were many times when
- 48:27you would see some of the earlier skaters do really,
- 48:31really strong stuff. Yeah, the GOES come in and
- 48:35you're like, wow. What?
- 48:36Yeah. But I, I totally agree with you.
- 48:39I. Don't know what the solution is,
- 48:41but it's like I, I feel like they're not doing it correctly.
- 48:44And how do you, how do you address that?
- 48:46I think they have to be aggressive about confronting it.
- 48:50Yeah. I just don't know why you would
- 48:52think about saving room for an element, right?
- 48:58Yeah, two things can be true. Ilya Molinen and Yuma Kagiyama
- 49:03can be the best overall skaters in the in the event, right?
- 49:09And somebody who finishes 23rd can have just as good of a step
- 49:15sequence as they have. Or, you know, whatever it is.
- 49:18Or better. Yeah, or.
- 49:20Better. I think that's, that's the,
- 49:24that's the cognitive dissonance of this whole thing is that I
- 49:28think when you are confronted with a whole bunch of skaters
- 49:34and you're like, there's still 20 more skaters in front.
- 49:37So like, they can't be possibly as good as this and that.
- 49:41That doesn't make any sense. It's an old system mindset and I
- 49:44think you can't just let it continue.
- 49:46You have to kind of address it aggressively when it's happening
- 49:49and repeatedly throughout the season with the judges so they
- 49:53remember not to do that. You know, it's just been
- 49:57snowballing. Yeah, Oh, God, let's keep going
- 50:01on this on this, on this men's event.
- 50:03Shun Sato. Oh my God, if you would have
- 50:07been with me, Michelle, watching these practices.
- 50:10After your tweets. Holy moly, like he looked like
- 50:14he was like ready to withdraw that first, like like.
- 50:21Wow. I'm, I'm being hyperbolic here,
- 50:24but like he was so bad that first day of practice.
- 50:29And what was also interesting was that I heard after the fact
- 50:33that the morning practice on the very first day, the ice was
- 50:37really bad. That's what I ended up hearing
- 50:40afterwards. And then they fixed it and it
- 50:43was very different. But Schun's practices, woof.
- 50:47But the thing was, he got better and better during the week and
- 50:51he figured it out during the week.
- 50:52It was like, I think I was reading that he didn't really
- 51:01like revisit his practices and his like training early enough
- 51:07for worlds and he basically like improved as the practices were
- 51:13happening during worlds. So gosh, I I just, I could not
- 51:18believe he ended up doing what he did.
- 51:20Uh huh, Shin Sato. Uh huh.
- 51:24Well, good for him. And that's his first world
- 51:27medal. Yeah.
- 51:28An Olympic bronze and a world bronze, like, yeah, what a dream
- 51:32season for him. It's.
- 51:33Been and a Grand Prix Final bronze, so it's this color.
- 51:37It's Metal King and then Steven Gogalov.
- 51:43Mr. Consistency. Gosh, so excited to see where he
- 51:48goes from here because like you and I said, he has more
- 51:52difficulty in store. He has yeah, he's landed more
- 51:55difficult stuff in the past when he was a junior turning senior.
- 51:59And he's just his that that free skate could have been better.
- 52:04Like like he he skated that better, but still like can't
- 52:10take away from him what he's been able to accomplish this
- 52:14season and the fact that it got better and better as the season
- 52:18was going on. Yeah.
- 52:19Because at the beginning, it was still like, OK, like holding our
- 52:24breaths here for Stephen Gogolab.
- 52:26Like yeah, is it staying or is it not?
- 52:29Yeah, yeah, he's healthy, I guess.
- 52:31And he's just, yeah, just step by step improving.
- 52:36I mean, to be 4th here is like incredible.
- 52:38I mean, Canada barely had one spot for the Olympics.
- 52:41And I know. I know, yeah. 4th Canada Canada
- 52:46finally gets the second spot back, Yeah.
- 52:49Yeah. But poor Adam Sal Oh.
- 52:52My gosh. Once again, his practices were
- 52:58great. They really were.
- 53:01Yeah. He just couldn't, he couldn't
- 53:04put it together. He he did finally put it
- 53:07together for the short program, so at least he got that much.
- 53:11Yeah, this short was great, but. Short was great.
- 53:14Yeah. And you know, you know what step
- 53:18sequence did deserve a + 5 across the board his short
- 53:22program. Oh my God, that that's that's.
- 53:26It's crazy that Ilia gets the record in that same event and
- 53:29Adam doesn't. Yeah, that stuff sequences.
- 53:31Is the perfect score, yeah. So, so amazing.
- 53:36But yeah, I it wasn't as bad as the Olympics for Adam, but it
- 53:40was just, it was a little bit actually kind of like Yuma's
- 53:44skate at the Olympics where it was 11 fall and a bunch of step
- 53:50outs and just like couldn't keep it together.
- 53:55Oh, Adam did get a perfect score.
- 53:56He got one as well. Oh, he did good.
- 53:58Yeah, so they they aren't true perfect scores because they each
- 54:02got a one, got a four from a judge, but it gets dropped.
- 54:07So yeah. So yes, oh, Adam.
- 54:15But France does get the three spots.
- 54:17That keeps the three spots with Adam and Kevin 5th and 7th.
- 54:22Kevin Amos's Bolero was brilliant.
- 54:25It was very well done. It was so good.
- 54:28Yeah, I know you're not the biggest fan of that program, but
- 54:32I am and I enjoyed it immensely. I, I enjoyed it at, at worlds.
- 54:37I think he, I think he did a great job there.
- 54:39I, I think for me, it's still the layout of that program that
- 54:44I don't love, but the, the, his, his presentation of that was as
- 54:50good as it's been. And and he was finally not like
- 54:54struggling to hang on to jumps, which was, you know, he had that
- 54:58one fall in the quantum and that was it.
- 55:00Yeah, yeah. And then Sasha Sulevko.
- 55:07I mean he could have been worse. His shore program was amazing.
- 55:10The first game I expected much more of an implosion than we
- 55:13got. I mean yeah he fought, he
- 55:15fought. 6 is an amazing result for him.
- 55:18And Estonia gets 2 spots for next year, so we will see Mihail
- 55:24Solevko. We don't know about that.
- 55:28I mean, Estonia has three. Men.
- 55:31I know, yeah. Not that Arlette will get it,
- 55:34but I think I think that the the battle will be there because
- 55:38Arlette is getting more, he's getting more consistent.
- 55:40He's got a triple Axel now, and Mihao Solevko still has problems
- 55:46putting down good programs on a consistent.
- 55:49Basis that vampire program this season won me over and I'm I I
- 55:53believe in him. He's going to do it.
- 55:55We need both celeb Bros in Finland.
- 56:00Gosh, yeah, the men, there was some really good like, like we
- 56:07said, the menning was limited, you know?
- 56:12It was pre menning. Yeah, Jacob Sanchez doing what
- 56:17he did, 12th in his first worlds.
- 56:20Yeah, he was great. And Andrew, too.
- 56:22Andrew Torgashev. Not as good as he was at the
- 56:25Olympics, but good enough to be top 10.
- 56:28I saw a mix on quote for him from him.
- 56:30I was very nervous about how he was going to skate because he
- 56:32talked about how hard it was to get motivated, how he considered
- 56:35withdrawing. And he just said, skating's my
- 56:37job. I'm just going to make myself do
- 56:39it. And I was like, oh boy.
- 56:40But you know, it was very respectable the way he he skated
- 56:44here and to be 10th was is awesome.
- 56:45And for him at worlds, that's a big improvement, yeah.
- 56:49And yeah, we have had the US got 2 spots with either combination
- 56:54of them with Ilia. So that's awesome.
- 56:56Yeah, yeah, for sure. I, I think the other two that I
- 57:03wanted to to mention, Kirya Marsak is such a talent and he's
- 57:10getting more consistent. He's his jumps are ginormous and
- 57:15he's got really good basics. I think he's going to he's going
- 57:19to be 1 to watch for the next 444 seasons.
- 57:23And the consistency of Vladimir Samoilov is making me optimistic
- 57:31for his future because I'm like, oh, we're finally not getting
- 57:35the yo-yo Samoy love that we used to where it was like, are
- 57:39you going to like pop all three of your jumps in a short program
- 57:43and get a 50 like the last, you know, Olympics?
- 57:47And here I feel like he's been a different skater this season.
- 57:53And I really love that that's the case because he, I also love
- 57:58his skating. I think he's he's got a lot of
- 58:00potential. Yeah.
- 58:04Yeah, so US, Japan, France all get 3 spots for worlds next
- 58:12year. Canada, Estonia, Italy,
- 58:16Switzerland get 2 spots. Nice.
- 58:22And that was the men. Thank goodness.
- 58:26Thank goodness we did not end with well, We ended with ice
- 58:31dance. I loved that schedule.
- 58:36I love spending Saturday late morning watching the free dance,
- 58:40listening to Tanith Bellburn comment, commentate on it.
- 58:42It was great. I was, I was having a good time.
- 58:46Dance should always be the last event.
- 58:48It's it's like the free dance is the best event.
- 58:51You know, oh boy. Oh.
- 58:53Boy, and then some of the the little details from the dance
- 58:58meeting about next season, the programs for next season kind of
- 59:01came out on Twitter and that spoiled my mood a little bit.
- 59:04But, you know, yeah. Well, we will talk more about
- 59:09the, the, the changes coming up for the next season, but in the
- 59:15meantime, we're going to, we're going to say goodbye to this
- 59:23202526 season and this 202326 Olympic quad.
- 59:30We're done. And I know synchro world is
- 59:32coming up and that's going to happen.
- 59:37But in terms of singles, pairs and ice dance, we're done.
- 59:42So that is what it is. And if you had three things from
- 59:53worlds that you won't forget, what are those three things,
- 59:57Michelle? Human doe.
- 59:59Obviously you must free skate Monet's short program.
- 1:00:06And I mean vogue rhythm dance. Oh wow.
- 1:00:13I mean, I, I would say Fornia Vodrissi's around free dance as
- 1:00:16well was pretty incredible. But yeah, and I'm also not going
- 1:00:21to forget that weird illegal element call.
- 1:00:25That's that was pretty. That was pretty interesting.
- 1:00:27Speaking of, things are unforgettable.
- 1:00:29Yeah, OK, Calorie free skate. Oh yeah, of course, yeah.
- 1:00:34Yuma free skate. Yeah, Ilia free skate.
- 1:00:37I think those are those are my 3.
- 1:00:38Wow, Ilia. OK.
- 1:00:39Yeah, yeah, I just, I, I, I, you know me.
- 1:00:43I love a redemption story and all three of those were
- 1:00:48redemption stories from the Olympics.
- 1:00:50And it, it just felt it, it, it made you feel like the, the
- 1:00:55season wrapped up well for these three skaters who had such
- 1:01:01pressure put both on them and put on them by themselves, right
- 1:01:07for this Olympic season. And so nice to see that the the
- 1:01:11three of them ended the way that they did so.
- 1:01:17Yeah. Well, that's it for this I I
- 1:01:23don't want to I don't want to stop podcasting here because
- 1:01:27they're so like, oh, I'm, I'm missing the season already, but
- 1:01:31we all need our. Breaks podcast about something
- 1:01:33else for a little bit. I need a skating I need a
- 1:01:36skating break. CDE free skating break.
- 1:01:40Oh, I'm, I'm not going to talk about the CDE yet.
- 1:01:44Speaking of new, new, new ice dance requirements, for those of

- 1:02:46was so tired. And I'm probably going to sleep
- 1:02:49through the night. I hope I'm going to sleep
- 1:02:50through the night. So Michelle, we, we, we may come
- 1:02:57back on to talk about more things in the offseason,
- 1:03:00including rule changes. Maybe.
- 1:03:03Maybe including things, but thank you for joining me for
- 1:03:12this crazy season and. Thank you for having me.
