- 2:48Speaker 2: Want to welcome to the show now Jeff Pearson to
- 2:51Speaker 2: talk about the West Banco Family Fund Center at the Regatta.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, welcome to the show.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Hey, fay for having me. Sorry can't be there in person.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Hey, hey, buddy, you're planning a party for about you know,
- 3:01Speaker 2: one hundred thousand of your closest friends. I mean it's
- 3:04Speaker 2: completely understandable, you know that.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Right, that's right?
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, So let's talk about it. Starts if I'm
- 3:10Speaker 2: correct on this, The West Banco Family Fund Center will
- 3:14Speaker 2: start at noon Thursday at City Center at Slight Plaza.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Tell us what's going on with this? Tell us all
- 3:19Speaker 2: about it.
- 3:20Speaker 3: So the Family Fund Center is back again with Regatta
- 3:22Speaker 3: this year. Each year we keep building on the Family
- 3:25Speaker 3: Fund Zone, making it more immersive for our families and
- 3:29Speaker 3: our community, and trying to bring more art into it
- 3:32Speaker 3: as well. We continue to add a new artists and
- 3:36Speaker 3: local artists to really elevate the events and make it
- 3:40Speaker 3: fun for everybody.
- 3:41Speaker 2: When you say that you're talking about adding more art, well,
- 3:44Speaker 2: what exactly have you had in the paston what are
- 3:46Speaker 2: you hoping to add this year?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah? So my normal, normal job at all, not normal
- 3:51Speaker 3: at all. My worst job with the city is the
- 3:54Speaker 3: Public Art Office. And what we try to do is
- 3:57Speaker 3: include public art in all things that we do. And
- 4:00Speaker 3: so it's kind of incorporated that in the Family Fund Zone.
- 4:02Speaker 3: We're going to have public art puppets. When I say puppets,
- 4:05Speaker 3: I mean street puppets, very large ten twelve feet foot
- 4:09Speaker 3: tall puppets there at the event. We're bringing in a
- 4:14Speaker 3: Fluidity performance troupe. They're from all over, some of which
- 4:17Speaker 3: are from West Virginia. They do air lists, they do
- 4:20Speaker 3: still walkers, they have some new things, some some frizes
- 4:23Speaker 3: this year that they're going to bring back and we're
- 4:26Speaker 3: kind of doing more with them. And then we're featuring
- 4:29Speaker 3: local artists. We're going to have live paintings by local
- 4:32Speaker 3: artists west Erie, Abby Mazel, and then Rob Cleaton will
- 4:36Speaker 3: be there with caricatures. And on Sunday we're going to
- 4:39Speaker 3: have a new community art project with Beckley artist Robbie Moore,
- 4:44Speaker 3: who just had an amazing show at Taylor Books and
- 4:46Speaker 3: we're kind of building off of that. And he does
- 4:48Speaker 3: a lot of work with fabric and paintings. So who's
- 4:51Speaker 3: gonna work with kids to create this piece that will
- 4:54Speaker 3: kind of come to life on that Sunday afternoon there
- 4:57Speaker 3: the Family Fund Zone.
- 4:59Speaker 2: So in addition, yeah, no, go ahead, no, you could
- 5:01Speaker 2: change you go ahead.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Well, in addition the art, we have our regular players
- 5:06Speaker 3: that always bring great joy to the Family Fund Zone,
- 5:09Speaker 3: like the Inflatables Professor Bubblemaker early back, Joey's Stepp will
- 5:13Speaker 3: be there. Lisa also will be there with Face Paying.
- 5:16Speaker 3: We have something for everybody, truly, And I want.
- 5:19Speaker 2: To talk about the importance of the community art in
- 5:21Speaker 2: this because you said there's a special emphasis on that.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Go into that a little bit more and why that's
- 5:25Speaker 2: so important to Regatta so.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Well to me. When I was growing up, Regatta was
- 5:31Speaker 3: held so many memories that we all know now is
- 5:34Speaker 3: our nostalgic part of for Good, and we want to
- 5:36Speaker 3: bring both of those things to the community when I
- 5:38Speaker 3: have nostalgia, but we also want to incorporate new things
- 5:41Speaker 3: and new ideas and new memories for this generation. So
- 5:45Speaker 3: one of the things that makes it really easy to
- 5:47Speaker 3: incorporate the community and engage the community is public art.
- 5:51Speaker 3: And so with community public art, as we've done a
- 5:54Speaker 3: bunch of times in the past, as we will have
- 5:56Speaker 3: commune members community members participate in a painting process or
- 6:01Speaker 3: an exercise with drawing, and that then becomes part of
- 6:05Speaker 3: a permit or temporary piece of public art. And so
- 6:08Speaker 3: that kind of hits that core idea of embracing art
- 6:13Speaker 3: and having a community piece that you can go back
- 6:16Speaker 3: and see as a child and see as you grow
- 6:19Speaker 3: up here in Charleston's to see your work be part
- 6:22Speaker 3: of a larger piece.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Tytler, you know. And Jeff Pearson about some of the
- 6:26Speaker 2: activities going on with Regatta as part of the West
- 6:28Speaker 2: Banco Family Fund Center, which a Family Fund Zone which
- 6:30Speaker 2: is at City Center at Slack Plaza. To Dave Allan
- 6:33Speaker 2: show on five Aniline brought you inmparted by the all
- 6:35Speaker 2: New Generations for a hurricane visit Generations for dot Com
- 6:39Speaker 2: And going back to those puppets, did you say, like
- 6:41Speaker 2: twelve to fourteen fifteen feet puppets. That's not exactly the
- 6:44Speaker 2: kind you put on your hand man.
- 6:46Speaker 3: No, No, we kind of do things. We overdo things
- 6:49Speaker 3: a bit in the Public Art Office. So we have
- 6:52Speaker 3: a few puppets that we get out for parades. We
- 6:56Speaker 3: will have two of our puppets out Saturday afternoon for
- 6:58Speaker 3: the funeral parade at one o'clock. And then we've built
- 7:01Speaker 3: some smaller puppets. They're now the ones we're going to
- 7:03Speaker 3: have roaming around will be a little bit smaller, but
- 7:06Speaker 3: we have who's becomes quite famous now of our puppet Petunia,
- 7:11Speaker 3: who is about about a ten twelve foot pink furry
- 7:14Speaker 3: puppet that's operated by about two or three people. As
- 7:18Speaker 3: long as it doesn't rain, because she's thirteen yards of fur,
- 7:22Speaker 3: so as long as it doesn't rain, Petunia will be
- 7:24Speaker 3: out in a couple others. We've made some new ones
- 7:26Speaker 3: just for Regatta this year and it did so much fun.
- 7:28Speaker 3: And one thing I love about the puppets is that
- 7:31Speaker 3: they're they're they're really simple, not simple to make, but
- 7:34Speaker 3: we we use simple materials to make these things. And
- 7:37Speaker 3: we have some summer interns this year with through the
- 7:40Speaker 3: Mayor's Youth Summer Youth Program, and it's been amazing being
- 7:44Speaker 3: able to teach them some techniques and things to make
- 7:46Speaker 3: those things well.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And the thing that we want to make sure everybody
- 7:49Speaker 2: understands with so many of these activities, and we're going
- 7:52Speaker 2: to be talking every day about activities related to the Regatta,
- 7:55Speaker 2: is that so many of these things, Jeff, are absolutely
- 7:58Speaker 2: free of charge. And we know that the economy, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: it's not the best right now, and people tell them
- 8:03Speaker 2: I'm not I'm going to make it political, but you know,
- 8:05Speaker 2: we hear that term affordability and so on and so forth.
- 8:07Speaker 2: There are so many things going on with the regarded
- 8:10Speaker 2: that families can come to. They can take it and
- 8:12Speaker 2: ain't gonna cost them.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Nothing, and that's absolutely right. I think. For me again,
- 8:16Speaker 3: it's it's about the kids and having something for them
- 8:20Speaker 3: to do, to build these memories and to come down
- 8:23Speaker 3: and like I said, we're going to have some surprises.
- 8:25Speaker 3: They're going to show up on Saturday and Friday, and
- 8:27Speaker 3: saturday's way and Sunday see and Thursday, but all the
- 8:29Speaker 3: days actually so but it's and it's also really important
- 8:33Speaker 3: too that we do have We will have water, we
- 8:36Speaker 3: will have a missing station, we will have the sprinklers
- 8:40Speaker 3: on to keep our kiddos cool and hydrated because it
- 8:43Speaker 3: is going to be super hot, and we will have
- 8:45Speaker 3: some shade and we it's speaking of young people. On Saturday,
- 8:48Speaker 3: Friday and Saturday, we also have our Young Young Entrepreneurs
- 8:51Speaker 3: market where young people are bringing their things to UH
- 8:54Speaker 3: to sell. So we will have some things for self,
- 8:56Speaker 3: but those are kind of really again helping the kids
- 8:58Speaker 3: become young entrepreneur is instelled what the work that they've
- 9:01Speaker 3: done and artwork and all kinds of days they have
- 9:03Speaker 3: to bring for that.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Dokor with Jeff Pearson. Hey, Jeff, I know that you're
- 9:07Speaker 2: really really busy, and we will let you go. But
- 9:10Speaker 2: again what we've been talking about. This is all part
- 9:12Speaker 2: of the West Banco Family Fund Zone, which is at
- 9:14Speaker 2: City Center at Slack Posit. Things will get started there
- 9:16Speaker 2: on Thursday. Complete list of activities available. The Regatta's got
- 9:20Speaker 2: all the social media's including Facebook, there's website. City Charleston's
- 9:23Speaker 2: got stuff out there and as I said, we're gonna
- 9:25Speaker 2: be talking about it throughout the week. I appreciate you
- 9:27Speaker 2: taking time on your schedule to be here. Now get
- 9:29Speaker 2: back to work, you, sir Jeff Pearson. Thanks man. It

- 12:55Speaker 2: Did that one turn out? Okay? I mean is that
- 12:57Speaker 2: gonna make a good eight by ten glossy?
- 12:59Speaker 5: Well, the thing the camera didn't break, so you're.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Good, Okay. The finger that I put up was not
- 13:04Speaker 2: the one in the middle. I don't know what exactly
- 13:07Speaker 2: I was doing there, all right? So is there any truth, Stephen,
- 13:10Speaker 2: that you have been reserving to your place in line
- 13:13Speaker 2: to be the first to ride the Morrissey ferris wheel.
- 13:16Speaker 5: I certainly want to ride to John Adams gondola. I
- 13:18Speaker 5: don't know if they let you pick. Here's the thing
- 13:21Speaker 5: I've heard about this, because of course it's as it
- 13:23Speaker 5: has been talked about incessantly. It is the largest portable
- 13:27Speaker 5: ferris wheel in the country. It's very similar to the
- 13:30Speaker 5: one that's in Washington, d C. For the Great America
- 13:33Speaker 5: State Fair going on there, and I've read a few
- 13:35Speaker 5: accounts of that one, which it's an enjoyable experience have
- 13:38Speaker 5: been told. But because it is so big and you
- 13:41Speaker 5: can get so many people within one gondola and multiple gondolas,
- 13:46Speaker 5: you'll be on the ferris wheel longer than you will
- 13:49Speaker 5: have been in line to wait to get on the
- 13:51Speaker 5: ferris wheel. Because it takes a little time to go around.
- 13:54Speaker 5: You got to get everyone on each gondola, so it
- 13:56Speaker 5: will it will take a little bit of time. So
- 13:59Speaker 5: if you're afraid of heights, well you might not like
- 14:03Speaker 5: this one because you're going to be on it for
- 14:04Speaker 5: a while and it's pretty tall. They just got I
- 14:06Speaker 5: think the full wheel is now complete now, so all
- 14:09Speaker 5: I do I think is probably put the gondolas on it.
- 14:12Speaker 2: I mean it's pretty much to scale, about as big
- 14:14Speaker 2: as the capital, right, I mean, it will be in
- 14:17Speaker 2: the neighborhood.
- 14:18Speaker 5: It's got to be. I don't know if it's taller
- 14:20Speaker 5: than the top of the dome, but it's pretty close.
- 14:26Speaker 5: It is immense. I walked down there yesterday and took
- 14:30Speaker 5: a look at it. Actually bumped into Governor more See Whi.
- 14:32Speaker 5: I was down there and talked to him about it,
- 14:34Speaker 5: and he definitely just wants to keep getting the word
- 14:38Speaker 5: out about it. He certainly wants people to come and
- 14:41Speaker 5: enjoy it and have an experience.
- 14:42Speaker 2: So well, and you know, we were tall. We had
- 14:45Speaker 2: a little bit of fun last week at the top
- 14:47Speaker 2: of the show, myself and Amanda and Jeff Jenkins and
- 14:50Speaker 2: TJ talking about the different presidents that are all because
- 14:53Speaker 2: all the presidents are are represented, and we were just
- 14:57Speaker 2: thinking about how much fun that it would be to
- 15:00Speaker 2: have someone from completely differing political thought processes backgrounds to
- 15:08Speaker 2: get on like I want to see I want to
- 15:10Speaker 2: see Mike Pushkin get on the Donald Trump. Sure, I
- 15:14Speaker 2: want to see Patrick Morrison get on the Barack Obama.
- 15:17Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. Well, I mean, like who
- 15:21Speaker 5: gets to go on I guess who's going to fight
- 15:23Speaker 5: to get on on Lincoln or or you know, for
- 15:28Speaker 5: the guy to create our state really, you know, with
- 15:30Speaker 5: a stroke of a pen in his nightgown.
- 15:32Speaker 2: That's uh, Like I want to go for the more
- 15:35Speaker 2: obscure presidents. Give me the Benjamin of Benjeon hit what
- 15:40Speaker 2: Benjamin Harrison?
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:41Speaker 2: And I was thinking of William Henry Harrison also, who
- 15:44Speaker 2: was the shortest termed president forty eight days if I remember.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Had had a bad cold uh and uh and diet
- 15:50Speaker 5: from that. I believe John Adams for me, Like I said,
- 15:52Speaker 5: John Adams, I wish I was related to him. I
- 15:56Speaker 5: think I've had some family to do some genealogy tests
- 15:58Speaker 5: where not as far as I.
- 16:00Speaker 2: You're more likely you're like me, Steven, You're more likely
- 16:02Speaker 2: to be related to Sam Adams than you are John.
- 16:04Speaker 5: He's my favorite President. I mean, I've read I read
- 16:06Speaker 5: the book, The Big Book, I've watched in any series.
- 16:09Speaker 5: I mean, I am the him and I have the
- 16:12Speaker 5: same attitudes for sure.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I mean ask you, I mean, what do you make
- 16:16Speaker 2: of all this? I mean, I know America only turns
- 16:20Speaker 2: two fifty one time, and I'm old enough. You're probably not.
- 16:23Speaker 2: But I am old enough to remember the bi centennial
- 16:24Speaker 2: and what a big deal that was. But bringing in
- 16:27Speaker 2: this type of event which has been years in the
- 16:30Speaker 2: making in planning, Okay, that's that's what they say, And
- 16:32Speaker 2: I have no reason to think otherwise. I know that
- 16:35Speaker 2: what's going on in Washington has been planning for a
- 16:37Speaker 2: number of years, or at least the wheels were in motion.
- 16:40Speaker 2: But having this at the same time as the regatta,
- 16:43Speaker 2: I mean, is that is that a little a little much?
- 16:46Speaker 2: I mean within a mile of each other. I mean,
- 16:48Speaker 2: I'm thinking Bobby Brown on one end, Alabama on the
- 16:51Speaker 2: other end, you know, and I'm just thinking, do you
- 16:53Speaker 2: think it's a little much.
- 16:54Speaker 5: I think here's what I think will happen. I think
- 16:59Speaker 5: people will go between both events. I think people will
- 17:01Speaker 5: come down to the Capitol, and I think for America's
- 17:03Speaker 5: two fifty whether they were doing a big thing or
- 17:06Speaker 5: just having a few small things. People would come down
- 17:08Speaker 5: anyway because it's a good time to check out history
- 17:11Speaker 5: and that sort of thing, and that should be encouraged.
- 17:13Speaker 5: And the fact that they're doing a shuttle between both
- 17:14Speaker 5: I think is helpful. I think people will come down
- 17:16Speaker 5: here to ride the ferris wheel, walk around. Maybe it'll
- 17:19Speaker 5: come on an evening. Here's the thing, there's so many
- 17:23Speaker 5: events that Regatta, so many musical acts. You can go
- 17:26Speaker 5: see the one you want to see, and maybe on
- 17:27Speaker 5: the night where there's maybe not someone you want to see,
- 17:29Speaker 5: then you can come down here for a time in
- 17:31Speaker 5: check out the light show. But you can go between both.
- 17:33Speaker 5: But I think more people are going to spend time
- 17:35Speaker 5: at Regatta as a whole than they are going to
- 17:38Speaker 5: be spending time at the Capitol City Bash. But they
- 17:40Speaker 5: will come down. I think they'll check out some of
- 17:43Speaker 5: the things. But I do think while I know they
- 17:46Speaker 5: said they're working together, I do think it's a little
- 17:51Speaker 5: problematic and I do think it takes away from events
- 17:54Speaker 5: that they could have done a small event at the
- 17:56Speaker 5: Capitol well, they could have also used that opportunity to
- 17:58Speaker 5: do some small events on the state such as Wheeling,
- 18:01Speaker 5: but has the dialect and.
- 18:03Speaker 2: There are a lot of things going on.
- 18:04Speaker 5: They are but on their own accord. Like the communities
- 18:07Speaker 5: in those areas are doing a lot of things. The
- 18:09Speaker 5: state's not really doing anything. You know, the governor is
- 18:11Speaker 5: going to go move around and check out. But but yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 5: the state itself really is kind of focused on this
- 18:17Speaker 5: capital event, which really only started to get formulated since
- 18:21Speaker 5: about April. I mean, it's been short, this part of
- 18:23Speaker 5: it has been short.
- 18:25Speaker 2: That is the and maybe I'm totally wrong, is the
- 18:28Speaker 2: conspiracy theorist in me thinking that, Well, I mean, we
- 18:32Speaker 2: have a conservative Republican governor, we have by our own admission,
- 18:36Speaker 2: a more liberal leaning mayor in the office, and that's
- 18:40Speaker 2: by her. That's not the disparaging remark, it's it's the fact.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Do you do you think that that that plays into
- 18:47Speaker 2: what the governor is wanting to do this at all?
- 18:49Speaker 2: Or maybe not?
- 18:50Speaker 5: Maybe maybe not not so much specifically with Mayor Amy.
- 18:55Speaker 5: I don't think. I do think that the governor, and
- 18:58Speaker 5: I've seen this the last early two years, he likes
- 19:01Speaker 5: the counter program because he's so perceived as an outsider.
- 19:05Speaker 5: Instead of trying to kind of get away from that,
- 19:07Speaker 5: he kind of leans into it some. And I do
- 19:09Speaker 5: think he likes to do his own events, whether it's
- 19:13Speaker 5: like having his own event after stay the state instead
- 19:16Speaker 5: of participating in the big thing that always happens at
- 19:19Speaker 5: the Barriott or or now this, I mean, I think
- 19:23Speaker 5: he likes the counter program and do his own thing.
- 19:26Speaker 5: He had his own inauguration parade, which, by the way,
- 19:28Speaker 5: no offense to the governor. I don't mean this is
- 19:31Speaker 5: disparnginan but nobody went to it, you know, for the
- 19:34Speaker 5: inauguration parade he did. Nobody came out for that, but
- 19:37Speaker 5: he decided to have one because he won an inauguration parade.
- 19:39Speaker 5: I think he wanted to have a big event at
- 19:40Speaker 5: the Capitol and we'll see if it gets the crowd.
- 19:43Speaker 5: See he hopes it does. And but I mean there
- 19:46Speaker 5: are going to be some fun things there.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Well, and we do want to we can't. We can't
- 19:50Speaker 2: stretch this enough to make Brian Hughes happy. Is the
- 19:53Speaker 2: fact that he's going to be extremely hot. I mean,
- 19:56Speaker 2: I mean no matter even if you go in the evening,
- 19:59Speaker 2: I mean we're talking about heat indices well over one hundred.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Actual temperature is going to be near one hundred and
- 20:03Speaker 2: some of these events towards the end of the week.
- 20:05Speaker 2: So hydrate please make plans cording. And we have a
- 20:07Speaker 2: tax that says I'd like to see the receipts for
- 20:10Speaker 2: how much the celebration is costing the West Virginia taxpayer.
- 20:12Speaker 5: Well, that's a good question, and some of us are
- 20:14Speaker 5: trying to get that now. I know that they have
- 20:15Speaker 5: budgeted two million dollars. That's coming out of the civil
- 20:18Speaker 5: Governor's Civil Contingency Fund. Which explain what that is, Well,
- 20:22Speaker 5: it is kind of hard to explain what it is
- 20:24Speaker 5: because it's just a broad fund that the governor has
- 20:27Speaker 5: a lot of times disaster recovery money comes out of that.
- 20:30Speaker 5: If they need to like spend some money really quickly.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Right now, like sergency.
- 20:35Speaker 5: Yeah, like Logan County floods and that sort of thing.
- 20:37Speaker 5: They can take money out of that real quick but
- 20:39Speaker 5: it can be used for other things, so it can
- 20:41Speaker 5: be used for this, and I do think this is
- 20:43Speaker 5: an appropriate expenditure, trying to celebrate Americas through fifty. The
- 20:47Speaker 5: question is, like you said, how much this costs? And
- 20:50Speaker 5: I do think we need to know that. You know,
- 20:51Speaker 5: how much is this the Farris will going to cost
- 20:53Speaker 5: someone apparently thinks it costs two million. It doesn't guarantee
- 20:57Speaker 5: it less than that. What about Alabama, We had to
- 20:59Speaker 5: get them at the last minute from what I understand.
- 21:02Speaker 2: And let me tell you something.
- 21:03Speaker 5: They can go for between three hundred and five hundred thousands.
- 21:05Speaker 2: For somebody who knows a little bit about the promotions business,
- 21:07Speaker 2: because they've done a lot of concerts. In my fact,
- 21:08Speaker 2: number one Alabama you can say what you want to about,
- 21:11Speaker 2: and they haven't had a quote unquote hit record in years.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Those guys still are huge, I mean still are huge,
- 21:17Speaker 2: and they ain't cheap. They over fifty number one hits. Yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 2: and they ain't cheap because especially when you say, hey,
- 21:24Speaker 2: what are you guys doing? You know, such and such
- 21:26Speaker 2: a day we want to bring you in. There's a
- 21:28Speaker 2: little bit more. I mean I can tell you from
- 21:30Speaker 2: working with Landau and different people. You know, you pay
- 21:32Speaker 2: more for New Year's Eve, Fourth of July and holidays
- 21:36Speaker 2: and what you do? You pay more for an event
- 21:37Speaker 2: on the weekend as opposed to a Monday night. So
- 21:41Speaker 2: it's there's a lot of money that's been spent on
- 21:44Speaker 2: this thing. And look at America New turns two fifty one.
- 21:46Speaker 5: And here's the thing. I'm a believer in the idea
- 21:48Speaker 5: that government can walk in chew gum. At the same time,
- 21:50Speaker 5: I know people were talking about, well, we had to
- 21:52Speaker 5: do budget cuts, you know, two percent budge of cuts
- 21:54Speaker 5: for agencies, or we talk about this tan of structural
- 21:57Speaker 5: deficit of guy, now it's here back in May. You know,
- 22:00Speaker 5: there's there are needs for two million dollars, but the
- 22:04Speaker 5: state does have the money to address those needs. We'll
- 22:07Speaker 5: see how the governor decides to do that and how
- 22:09Speaker 5: the legislature decides to do that moving forward. But they've
- 22:12Speaker 5: got the ability to do that, and they have the
- 22:14Speaker 5: ability to pay for this to celebrate a pretty important
- 22:18Speaker 5: milestone in a nation's history. Two fifty since the decoration
- 22:22Speaker 5: of independence. That's a big deal.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Well, somebody pointed out on one of the social media
- 22:25Speaker 2: sites that I saw. One of the comments was, you know,
- 22:28Speaker 2: are you going to tell me that things didn't go
- 22:30Speaker 2: on during the depression. I mean that there were still celebrations.
- 22:33Speaker 5: And we built a capital in the Great Depression and
- 22:36Speaker 5: guilded it with gold. So yeah, I mean, sometimes you
- 22:41Speaker 5: do have to spend a little bit of money, you know,
- 22:44Speaker 5: the bread and circuses. I mean that's used disparagingly sometimes,
- 22:48Speaker 5: but sometimes it's okay to celebrate things.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Texas. Have you guys seen the West Virginia Tent at
- 22:53Speaker 2: America's State Fair on the National Mall. One of the
- 22:56Speaker 2: most popular booths there because they have a driving stimulator
- 22:59Speaker 2: when you drive down West Virginia roads but have to
- 23:01Speaker 2: sing along to country roads as you drive. People love it.
- 23:04Speaker 2: We had Chelsea Ruby live from there a couple of
- 23:06Speaker 2: week week or so ago on midday.
- 23:08Speaker 5: Every photo I've seen or video I've seen have come
- 23:10Speaker 5: from our booth there. It's crowded, like people are crowded,
- 23:14Speaker 5: and we have interactive events there. We got the Swing,
- 23:18Speaker 5: the Almost Heaven Swing. We got some cool things there.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Chelsea Ruby in the departments words into the bang up
- 23:24Speaker 5: job on that tent, and it's been crowded every time
- 23:26Speaker 5: I've seen.
- 23:27Speaker 2: It, Texas. There's a video on YouTube of the outside
- 23:30Speaker 2: and inside of the America two fifty wheel that's the
- 23:32Speaker 2: official name that is being assembled at the West Virginia
- 23:35Speaker 2: State Capitol, taken by someone at the Florida State Fair.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Check that out. It's taller since a texture than the
- 23:40Speaker 2: sky wheel at Myrtle beach and has a fourteen mile
- 23:43Speaker 2: viewing range.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Well, of course, the problem is with a fourteen mile
- 23:48Speaker 5: viewing range, it's kind of hard to see fourteen miles
- 23:50Speaker 5: when you know you got a big hill on this
- 23:52Speaker 5: side of the river and then you got a big
- 23:54Speaker 5: hill on this side river. But you will, I think,
- 23:56Speaker 5: get some pretty cool views of the dome that you
- 23:58Speaker 5: wouldn't normally see you happened to'll be walking up there.
- 24:01Speaker 5: You'll certainly I think, be able to see all the
- 24:03Speaker 5: way down probably to regatta, if not past regatta. You'll
- 24:06Speaker 5: see some cool things, I think.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Tex says, going back to the President's Calvin Coolidge very
- 24:09Speaker 2: underrated president.
- 24:11Speaker 5: Well, he was silent cal He made sure not to
- 24:14Speaker 5: talk and really kind of kept He just stayed the business,
- 24:19Speaker 5: the government, this business that was his big saying. So
- 24:22Speaker 5: he was silent col There's the reason you don't hear
- 24:24Speaker 5: much about him.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Tex says. Alabama was huge when they were here for
- 24:27Speaker 2: the regatta years ago, and the boulevard in front of
- 24:29Speaker 2: the capital was crowded when Ronnie Millsap was here from
- 24:32Speaker 2: the CESCAS centennial. So don't you think this concert is
- 24:35Speaker 2: going to be even more crowded for Alabama. I think
- 24:38Speaker 2: you know again when you have and hats off to
- 24:43Speaker 2: the Regatta folks for being able to secure Bobby Brown
- 24:46Speaker 2: Whine own them, Melissa Ethridge, lead of Ford, all of
- 24:50Speaker 2: the people that are coming in, I'm sure I left
- 24:52Speaker 2: one out. Actually I did leave a few out. But
- 24:54Speaker 2: but but yeah, there's gonna be some crowds in Charleston.
- 24:57Speaker 2: I mean regard for both events and people do them both.
- 25:00Speaker 5: If you want to see bow Wow, that's great, go
- 25:01Speaker 5: see bow Wow and see those acts. They're going to
- 25:03Speaker 5: be there that night. If you want to go see Alabama,
- 25:06Speaker 5: see Alabama, I'm going to see Alabama. I grew up
- 25:08Speaker 5: with that era of country music. I'm a big fan
- 25:10Speaker 5: of uh uh loving the first degree. I'm a big
- 25:14Speaker 5: fan of oh I keep some wanting to say me
- 25:17Speaker 5: in the middle. That's not while. There are songs the
- 25:19Speaker 5: one I'm thinking, I'm gonna hurry to get things done.
- 25:21Speaker 5: That's one of my favorite songs.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I'm a my Home their first single, My Homes in
- 25:26Speaker 2: Alabama was was my favorite song. Nice little jam there
- 25:29Speaker 2: at the end too. Texas, so the governor's using emergency
- 25:31Speaker 2: money to find fund an unnecessary party during tornado and
- 25:35Speaker 2: flood season, So it's about right for the GOP.
- 25:37Speaker 5: It's not emergency money. It is money that is called
- 25:41Speaker 5: a contingency fund that he has that he can use
- 25:44Speaker 5: his discretion. It is not emergency money. He can criticize
- 25:47Speaker 5: the use of the money. That's fair, but it's not
- 25:50Speaker 5: money met for like a disasters. It can be.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Did you see the post from the Western Indian Troopers Associations.
- 25:57Speaker 5: Oh, I did see that, and that's kind of why
- 25:59Speaker 5: I was talking about that a little bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 26:01Speaker 5: So the Troopers Association was obviously upset again because certain
- 26:05Speaker 5: state departments in nations, it's not all of them had
- 26:08Speaker 5: to cut their budgets by two percent for the budget
- 26:11Speaker 5: bill that we'll go into effect actually here in two days,
- 26:15Speaker 5: for fiscal year twenty twenty seven. So they were pretty upset. Okay,
- 26:19Speaker 5: we're cutting the Troopers Association the trooper budget by to
- 26:24Speaker 5: you know, two percent, but then we're turning around spending
- 26:28Speaker 5: two million dollars on this event, so they make it
- 26:31Speaker 5: make sense. Was their whole big thing on that, and
- 26:33Speaker 5: you know, you can't blame them for that.
- 26:35Speaker 2: And uh, over the weekend, I don't know whether you
- 26:37Speaker 2: saw this or not, but the governor was in my
- 26:39Speaker 2: hometown of Logan. Yes, handed out two and a half
- 26:41Speaker 2: million dollars the city of Logan for revitalization of a
- 26:45Speaker 2: older department store there. Now they're not going to put
- 26:47Speaker 2: another department store in there but for this hub. And
- 26:50Speaker 2: if you're familiar with it, it's the old Watson's building
- 26:52Speaker 2: on Stratton Street, big three, three level store, and people
- 26:56Speaker 2: tried to do some different things with it. Apparently they're
- 26:58Speaker 2: not going to turn it into another it's gonna be
- 27:00Speaker 2: the the Kroger of South Charleston. Okay. What they're planning
- 27:03Speaker 2: on doing with it is making it more for economic development.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Try to get kind of similar to the way I
- 27:09Speaker 2: see it. Maybe what Huntington did with with under Brad
- 27:13Speaker 2: Smith and all the things downtown at the RCB Center
- 27:15Speaker 2: and things like that.
- 27:16Speaker 5: Maybe, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think that's a band of
- 27:18Speaker 5: Mindland's money. I think the governor did that with and
- 27:20Speaker 5: I know he was in Clintenon too, and I think
- 27:22Speaker 5: gave away some some money there. So again, the government,
- 27:26Speaker 5: the government can do two things at the same time.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Did you happen to see the first lady's comments She
- 27:32Speaker 2: was going back forth with some people on social media.
- 27:34Speaker 5: No, I did not see that, but she's not afraid
- 27:37Speaker 5: the scrap of people on social media. I wouldn't do
- 27:41Speaker 5: it if I were her. I mean, I you know,
- 27:42Speaker 5: most first ladies usually try to build up a positive
- 27:44Speaker 5: image of themselves. I don't know that I would get into.
- 27:49Speaker 5: I certainly don't, even as a reporter messed with social
- 27:52Speaker 5: media comments. You can comment on anything you want of mine.
- 27:54Speaker 5: I usually ignore it. But if that's how she chooses
- 27:58Speaker 5: spends her spending her time.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Ov Tex says, what I meant by that text was
- 28:02Speaker 2: the people. There's gonna be enough room in front of
- 28:04Speaker 2: the Capitol for a crowd the size of Alabama draws,
- 28:07Speaker 2: and that people be on top of each other in
- 28:09Speaker 2: this heat.
- 28:10Speaker 5: It's a good question actually with that one. Yeah, because
- 28:13Speaker 5: it's all going to be on the on the south side,
- 28:16Speaker 5: steps by the river side and that sort of thing.
- 28:18Speaker 5: Uh So that is actually a good question. That's not
- 28:21Speaker 5: a lot of space if you are expecting, let's say,
- 28:26Speaker 5: over nineteen eighties for data style crowd to come see Alabama.
- 28:28Speaker 5: So I don't know. I guess we will share see
- 28:30Speaker 5: how that works.
- 28:31Speaker 2: We don't want to slight The symphony is also going
- 28:33Speaker 2: to be there on the never night and on another night,
- 28:34Speaker 2: and so it's a martballs. I want to throw them
- 28:36Speaker 2: in there as well. Texas bread and circuses. The government
- 28:39Speaker 2: cut out the bread and it's only doing the circuses.
- 28:41Speaker 2: We get the country we deserve.
- 28:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I mean, if that is something you
- 28:45Speaker 5: care about. There are some elections coming up. I hear
- 28:48Speaker 5: here in November. You can do something about it and
- 28:51Speaker 5: send a message.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Texays. Give me James K.
- 28:53Speaker 9: Polk.
- 28:53Speaker 2: He accomplished everything in one term and had the shortest
- 28:55Speaker 2: retirement in presidential history.
- 28:58Speaker 5: I'm trying to remember he's not the one that started
- 29:00Speaker 5: the Mexican War, right.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I'm big on the presidential history of the people that
- 29:05Speaker 2: I know.
- 29:06Speaker 5: I was in a high school quiz bowl like Coke Captain,
- 29:08Speaker 5: but I had Danny in here. Uh Daniel, he was there,
- 29:11Speaker 5: he was you said that. Sorry.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Remind remind people where they can listen to your stuff,
- 29:16Speaker 2: or I mean where they can listen to you.
- 29:17Speaker 5: Listen to me here. I was here twice last week.

- 33:28Speaker 2: Former mayor's sheriff for restaurant tour, legislator, author, actor, radio host,
- 33:33Speaker 2: gravedigger and more. It's Danny Jones.
- 33:35Speaker 6: Thank you, how you doing man? And thank you for
- 33:37Speaker 6: not smoking?
- 33:38Speaker 2: Yes, thank you for not smoking. All right. So this
- 33:42Speaker 2: big event and these big events, all right, lod Regatta
- 33:45Speaker 2: and the America two fifty take it all right.
- 33:47Speaker 6: I learned this from Larry Growth Okay, who I think
- 33:50Speaker 6: knows what are he's doing. Yeah, these two events will
- 33:55Speaker 6: compliment each other. They are there. It's good they're having
- 33:58Speaker 6: both of them. I think the mayor has demonstrated, whatever
- 34:02Speaker 6: you think about her, she's demonstrated her prowess at putting
- 34:08Speaker 6: together an event. You know, her event seemed to go
- 34:11Speaker 6: pretty well. I agree, And with this event down here,
- 34:18Speaker 6: I think it just be better for the city. I
- 34:23Speaker 6: get two events.
- 34:24Speaker 2: I agree that. My only question and concern, and please
- 34:27Speaker 2: do not take this as a shot at any of
- 34:30Speaker 2: the city officials or city workers or anything like that.
- 34:33Speaker 2: I just worry about the amount of people that are
- 34:35Speaker 2: going to be here in the heat, whether we are
- 34:38Speaker 2: fully prepared for it. And again, that's not something that
- 34:41Speaker 2: the mayor can necessarily or the governor for that matter,
- 34:44Speaker 2: can actually prepare for. I just I just hope that
- 34:47Speaker 2: we got enough bodies to go around, if that makes
- 34:50Speaker 2: any sense, because this is going to be a really
- 34:52Speaker 2: really it's a strain anyway you regot it. But I'm
- 34:55Speaker 2: hoping it works out. Okay, go ahead.
- 34:57Speaker 6: You weren't here in nineteen eighty three when we had
- 34:59Speaker 6: some Miami seal machine.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Now I don't think it was eighty three, not miami'sal machine,
- 35:04Speaker 2: because they didn't come out to eighty six.
- 35:07Speaker 6: Well, whenever they ever was, whenever they were here, What
- 35:10Speaker 6: was that like? I was not here A hundred thousand,
- 35:13Speaker 6: A hundred thousand, easy. I mean, it's just you couldn't
- 35:17Speaker 6: couldn't move. It's just ridiculous. Okay, what were you doing
- 35:20Speaker 6: at that time? Were you sheriff at that time? I
- 35:22Speaker 6: would have been sheriff.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Okay, so did the city Mike was Mike Roork was mayor.
- 35:27Speaker 2: So did the city have to call in? I mean,
- 35:29Speaker 2: I'm sure they did. Oh, they didn't have to have
- 35:31Speaker 2: backup from the sheriff's department.
- 35:33Speaker 6: No, everything was fine, Okay, everything went well. Okay, I
- 35:37Speaker 6: think they may have had about one hundred fights.
- 35:39Speaker 2: But well, look, you get a bunch of people in
- 35:43Speaker 2: a spot, it's going to happen. You know that's going
- 35:45Speaker 2: to happen.
- 35:46Speaker 4: You know.
- 35:47Speaker 2: I can't when when it's hot.
- 35:49Speaker 6: I can't believe we're getting ready to do our two
- 35:53Speaker 6: hundred and fiftieth anniversary because I remember the two hundredth.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Like it was yesterday, as do I. I was a kid,
- 35:59Speaker 2: but I remember it.
- 36:00Speaker 6: I was in Washington, D C. And if you ever
- 36:05Speaker 6: watched Godfather Too, you can see the hotel Hotel Washington
- 36:10Speaker 6: where he was staying, and they show a glint that's
- 36:12Speaker 6: where I was.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Now, why were you there? You told us this last week,
- 36:15Speaker 2: But why were you there? Okay, that's enough, Well I
- 36:19Speaker 2: will leave it.
- 36:20Speaker 6: I had on I had company with me, and and
- 36:25Speaker 6: there was a block and half down the Willard was closed.
- 36:29Speaker 6: The Willard took up a whole half a block and
- 36:31Speaker 6: was nothing but dirt and dust, and it wasn't it
- 36:35Speaker 6: hadn't been remodeled yet. But right past that was Basin's
- 36:39Speaker 6: Sidewalk Cafe, which later burned, and myself and my my
- 36:48Speaker 6: friend girlfriend, we stayed there from one o'clock in the
- 36:52Speaker 6: afternoon to one o'clock in the morning, and I'm glad
- 36:57Speaker 6: we didn't have too far Awa wash.
- 36:58Speaker 2: That's always a good thing. Danny Jones is here today
- 37:01Speaker 2: Island Show on five Any Line, broad toed part by
- 37:03Speaker 2: Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. If you
- 37:06Speaker 2: were going to choose because part of this thing with
- 37:11Speaker 2: the America two fifty and the ferris Wheel and everything
- 37:13Speaker 2: at the Capitol is that there's one named after every president. Now,
- 37:17Speaker 2: the view is going to be the same whether you're
- 37:18Speaker 2: on Polk Obama or Washington. I completely understand that. But
- 37:22Speaker 2: if you were going to choose one based on the
- 37:25Speaker 2: historical relevance to ride on, which would it be? What president?
- 37:30Speaker 4: Oh?
- 37:32Speaker 6: Nixon?
- 37:33Speaker 2: You're a Nixon guy?
- 37:34Speaker 6: I am, yeah, there, I am.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Did you speaking of Nixon? Have you heard any of
- 37:39Speaker 2: the comments from JD Vance recently about Nixon? Because forever.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Ronald Reagan was the be all and all of the
- 37:47Speaker 2: Republican Party. They talk about Reagan Republicans and so on
- 37:50Speaker 2: and so forth, and this was the person everybody was
- 37:53Speaker 2: supposed to look up to, was Reagan. Vance is coming
- 37:58Speaker 2: out now, and look, there's nothing wrong with it, because
- 38:01Speaker 2: a lot of people have said, other than Watergate and Vietnam,
- 38:05Speaker 2: and those are two big others, that Nixon had some
- 38:08Speaker 2: good policies.
- 38:10Speaker 6: If it hadn't been for that June twenty third tape,
- 38:14Speaker 6: he would have survived. And Vietnam, he inherited that war
- 38:18Speaker 6: and he ended it. So I don't know what the
- 38:21Speaker 6: problem is with that.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe, I mean some would say maybe he should
- 38:25Speaker 2: have ended it earlier.
- 38:28Speaker 6: Well, if if it hadn't been for Watergate, South Vietnam
- 38:33Speaker 6: would be free today because the Democrats took over Congress
- 38:38Speaker 6: and they cut the money off.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Going back to the concert, Texas, the largest concert in
- 38:43Speaker 2: the history of the stern worldhre Gotta took place in
- 38:45Speaker 2: nineteen eighty six, estimated two hundred thousand people on the
- 38:49Speaker 2: boulevard to see the Beach Boys. Miami Sala machine was
- 38:52Speaker 2: eighty seven. According to a text, Okay, we'll go either way.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Big crowds, and there's going to be some big crowds
- 38:59Speaker 2: at Brigatta in this event.
- 39:00Speaker 6: Alabama, they've changed personnel, right.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Yeah, they're the original four were Mark Herndon, Randy Owen,
- 39:10Speaker 2: Jeff Cook, and Teddy Gentry. Jeff Cook's not Jeff Cook
- 39:13Speaker 2: is is passed. Mark Herndon is no longer there, so
- 39:16Speaker 2: the only two as best I and I'd have to
- 39:19Speaker 2: defer to Rob Real on this, but I think that
- 39:21Speaker 2: the only two remaining members are Randy Owen uh and
- 39:24Speaker 2: and Teddy Gentry.
- 39:25Speaker 6: I threw Jeff Cook out, Teddy Gentry?
- 39:27Speaker 2: Is that right? That's Gentry's the last time?
- 39:30Speaker 6: Pretty sure? I threw Jeff Cook out of my night
- 39:31Speaker 6: to your restaurant.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Really well, okay, I want to hear this story.
- 39:36Speaker 6: No I'm not.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Oh, come on, you can't throw that out there.
- 39:39Speaker 11: Man.
- 39:39Speaker 6: Well, I mean, you know, I served Booth and he
- 39:42Speaker 6: and he and he parted. He got a noxious He
- 39:44Speaker 6: said he was gonna take my I had a female
- 39:48Speaker 6: manager who he had his il on, and he said, well,
- 39:51Speaker 6: I'm taking her with me. I said, no, you're not.
- 39:54Speaker 6: I said, but you're gonna go.
- 39:56Speaker 2: So you so you threw out Jeff Cook of atto
- 39:58Speaker 2: Ian him to.
- 39:58Speaker 6: Get the hell out.
- 40:00Speaker 2: That didn't make your book, did it? That didn't make
- 40:03Speaker 2: the book?
- 40:03Speaker 6: No, I didn't.
- 40:05Speaker 2: I think you Here's what I think you should do,
- 40:06Speaker 2: Danny in a future book. I think you should do
- 40:10Speaker 2: an entire book based on just the celebrities, either in
- 40:15Speaker 2: the political world or others.
- 40:17Speaker 11: That you have.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Been around, that you've had come in contact with, good
- 40:21Speaker 2: or bad. Because I mean, on this you name drop
- 40:23Speaker 2: them all the time. You talk about running to Donna
- 40:25Speaker 2: Brazil at the time I love Donna at the airport
- 40:29Speaker 2: and talk about all these different people.
- 40:31Speaker 6: Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to people. In other words,
- 40:35Speaker 6: I'll walk up And I asked her, I learned this
- 40:37Speaker 6: from Governor More. Do you mind if I take say,
- 40:41Speaker 6: take town sale. Well, they're going to do say no.
- 40:44Speaker 2: I mean, as long as you're in a respectful way
- 40:46Speaker 2: and uh not while they're eating dinner or if they're
- 40:49Speaker 2: with their family and like obviously a family moment. But
- 40:52Speaker 2: uh there'll come a time when eventually somebody won't ask
- 40:55Speaker 2: those people.
- 40:56Speaker 6: She was so sweet. She said, you're the may like
- 41:00Speaker 6: And I said, you know, she's real Southern.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Yes, And I said Louisiana.
- 41:04Speaker 6: I said, just man were in the military, and I said, yeah,
- 41:09Speaker 6: and I was in Vietnam. Well, I want to thank
- 41:11Speaker 6: you so much for your service.
- 41:13Speaker 2: She was just so nice and she and you and
- 41:16Speaker 2: I've talked about this for her. She is so entertaining
- 41:19Speaker 2: when she is on. She's on this week, to watch it,
- 41:24Speaker 2: and whether you agree with he or not, she's incredible,
- 41:27Speaker 2: it doesn't matter. And she's especially good on Bill maher
- 41:30Speaker 2: because she's got a little bit of a mouth on
- 41:32Speaker 2: her and she can get on HBO and she can
- 41:34Speaker 2: say whatever's on her mind.
- 41:35Speaker 6: I like to watch her, and I like to watch
- 41:37Speaker 6: Chris Christie.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Okay, that's the Neither one of them were on yesterday.
- 41:41Speaker 2: I watched the show. Neither one of them.
- 41:42Speaker 6: I watched the show every sinnight.
- 41:44Speaker 2: All right, here's the question for you before we go
- 41:45Speaker 2: to break nicest celebrity or it could be somebody from

- 44:40Speaker 6: nicest because one was a politician, okay, and that was
- 44:44Speaker 6: Barack Obama okay. And the second, well the as far
- 44:48Speaker 6: as entertainers was Wayne Newton.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Nice guy.
- 44:54Speaker 6: Couldn't beat him. Yeah, it makes you feel like you're

- 45:29Speaker 6: my shoulder. I mean, it's just nice to can be
- 45:32Speaker 6: there's your nicest. Okay, now, as far as people that
- 45:38Speaker 6: were unfriendly, and the reason this text me off is
- 45:44Speaker 6: because I helped pay to bring the guy here with
- 45:48Speaker 6: George Benson.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Really and he just passed not long ago, I think,

- 45:53Speaker 6: I'm pretty sure you and the OJ's weren't at all friendly.
- 45:58Speaker 6: Gladys Knight wouldn't meet us. Trying to think, but.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Let me just let me just add this in there though.
- 46:07Speaker 2: And you got to understand this because everybody, if you
- 46:09Speaker 2: go on social media or whatever, people there's these lists
- 46:11Speaker 2: that pop up, who is the nicest rock star, athlete whatever.
- 46:16Speaker 2: We only see these people one time, and you don't

- 46:21Speaker 2: could run into you and you're not in a particular
- 46:23Speaker 2: mood to talk, and they may said, man, that guy's
- 46:25Speaker 2: an ass.
- 46:25Speaker 6: You know I have a girlfriend, but then you know
- 46:28Speaker 6: a married girlfriend lives in South Carolina and she was.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Should change that Danny to say a friend of mine,
- 46:35Speaker 2: not a married girlfriend. Well, never mind, go ahead.
- 46:39Speaker 6: She's a really good friend, okay. And she said she
- 46:42Speaker 6: was riding up in first class and Bill O'Reilly was
- 46:45Speaker 6: up there and he was completely nasty and he was
- 46:49Speaker 6: abusive to the stewardesses and everybody really yeah, said there
- 46:53Speaker 6: wasn't anything nice about him. So some people need to
- 47:00Speaker 6: get attention that way, I guess.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Well, and I can tell you as somebody you know,
- 47:04Speaker 2: I always throw out Landau because Landau and I have
- 47:07Speaker 2: been friends literally since we were kids. Uh and uh.
- 47:11Speaker 2: People will come up to him frequently. And I know
- 47:14Speaker 2: I'm not putting Landau on the same stage as you know,
- 47:16Speaker 2: some of these other folks you're talking about, But people
- 47:19Speaker 2: will come up to Landau in Kroger and say, hey,
- 47:21Speaker 2: sing me a song, and then they get their phone
- 47:25Speaker 2: out and they want to record it. Well, the problem
- 47:28Speaker 2: with that is is number one, my cousin used to
- 47:32Speaker 2: own a garage. People wouldn't come up to him and go, hey,
- 47:34Speaker 2: change my oil, okay. And the fact that everybody records
- 47:38Speaker 2: everything and you get somebody singing a little off key impromptu,
- 47:43Speaker 2: then what happens is is it gets put up on
- 47:45Speaker 2: YouTube and oh.
- 47:46Speaker 6: Here's the here's the I can't believe anybody would even
- 47:49Speaker 6: do that.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Oh are you kidding?
- 47:51Speaker 6: I can't.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Here's the you know, And I'll say I'm not I'll
- 47:54Speaker 2: take land out of it. I'll say, here's a Grammy
- 47:55Speaker 2: Award winner, and listen how they sound without auto tune.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Listen to how they because you just literally come up
- 48:00Speaker 2: and put a camera in their face and said sing.
- 48:03Speaker 1: You know.
- 48:03Speaker 2: That's that's the only That's the only thing I would
- 48:07Speaker 2: say about that.
- 48:08Speaker 6: And when I go to public places, especially Pigly Wiggly,
- 48:15Speaker 6: or go to any of these restaurants around here, I'm
- 48:20Speaker 6: still called mayor still treated not like I was then,
- 48:26Speaker 6: but I'm still treated very kind and kindly, and I
- 48:31Speaker 6: love it. I always did like it.
- 48:33Speaker 2: I'm going to say something. It's a bold statement, and
- 48:36Speaker 2: this is not me sucking up to you because you
- 48:38Speaker 2: don't have a restaurant to give me free food anymore.
- 48:40Speaker 2: But I will say, you're probably one of the one
- 48:44Speaker 2: or two, maybe three most famous Tarlestonians ever. You're on
- 48:50Speaker 2: them Mount Rushmore and probably in the in the number wonders.
- 48:53Speaker 6: You buses is well known because of staying here all
- 48:57Speaker 6: this time, working all those different I mean, when I
- 49:01Speaker 6: go to the wine in the morning, there's two people
- 49:04Speaker 6: up there. I used to pump gas in their car.
- 49:06Speaker 6: I used to pump gas in the Copenhaver's car. And
- 49:10Speaker 6: so I had I worked so many different variety of
- 49:14Speaker 6: jobs that I waited on somebody. I used to deliver
- 49:18Speaker 6: bottle of water people in the in the daytime, and
- 49:24Speaker 6: then I'd worked a door at Number eight at night
- 49:26Speaker 6: and they'd come down there and see me down there. See.
- 49:29Speaker 6: So that's that's how you get to know people. And
- 49:32Speaker 6: that's also how you get elected.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Boy Brunner once told me that if you say that
- 49:36Speaker 2: you're a legend, that just meet him in around a
- 49:38Speaker 2: long time. Brunner told me that once.
- 49:40Speaker 6: Yeah, you know Brunner is uh he stayed here.
- 49:45Speaker 2: Yes, we had him on the show a couple of
- 49:48Speaker 2: on the midday show a couple of weeks ago, talking
- 49:50Speaker 2: about the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame. He's a big,
- 49:53Speaker 2: real big into that. And they had their garden party
- 49:56Speaker 2: at the South Charleston Farmers Market a couple of weeks ago,
- 49:58Speaker 2: and Brunner came on and talked about it and let
- 50:01Speaker 2: me tell you, and I know he's a regular listener
- 50:03Speaker 2: of the show. I could bring Brunner in here and
- 50:05Speaker 2: sit and talk for the show after commercials was fifty
- 50:08Speaker 2: two minutes. I could sit here and talk for fifty
- 50:10Speaker 2: three minutes about one year in politics, when you talk
- 50:13Speaker 2: to you and Bron I need to get you and
- 50:14Speaker 2: Brunner here together. He booked.
- 50:16Speaker 6: He booked me on front of the Rotary Club and
- 50:20Speaker 6: I got up there and I never and I said this,
- 50:23Speaker 6: I said, you know, I come to these events. I
- 50:25Speaker 6: never know what I'm going to say. Yeah, and I didn't.
- 50:29Speaker 6: But I've talked for however long I was supposed to talk.
- 50:33Speaker 2: Tex says. Elvis frequently expressed deep gratitude for his audience,
- 50:36Speaker 2: famously saying without him, I'd be lost. When speaking about
- 50:39Speaker 2: his fans, he recognized that his success was built on
- 50:41Speaker 2: the support of people, and he was He consistently tried
- 50:44Speaker 2: to show them respect and appreciation. You got to do
- 50:46Speaker 2: that in politics.
- 50:47Speaker 6: He would tell his roadies and his band and everybody
- 50:52Speaker 6: that we have to remember a lot of these people
- 50:56Speaker 6: are seeing us for the first time.
- 50:58Speaker 2: And maybe the only time. Yeah, and it's their highlight
- 51:01Speaker 2: of their life.
- 51:02Speaker 6: Yeah, that really is when I bought to number eight.
- 51:05Speaker 6: The first big night I ever had was June seventy five.
- 51:10Speaker 6: That's when Elvis was here.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Texas Final Texas.
- 51:13Speaker 11: Dave.
- 51:13Speaker 2: Always great to hear Mayor Danny and your show. Danny
- 51:15Speaker 2: is a man that has a lot of historical knowledge.
- 51:18Speaker 6: Thank you. That's very kind.
- 51:20Speaker 2: All right, Danny Jones. You're heading out to Cali, aren't you. Yeah,
- 51:23Speaker 2: but you'll still be with us next couple of weeks. Right, Yeah,
