- 0:00Oh, we're getting a lot done today.
- 0:01I like this. I wonder how long it'll take to
- 0:04edit that video. I'm excited for that.
- 0:06I'm going to bang it as fast as I can.
- 0:07It was so fun. Yeah, so fun.
- 0:09Yeah, it's going to be good stuff.
- 0:10You know, it was a good reminder for me that it's like this is
- 0:12it? Yeah.
- 0:12This is what we just stand here. We just.
- 0:16Yeah, Oh yeah, you have been talking about those shoes.
- 0:18They're the best, They're the best.
- 0:19I have AI have a pair too. Do you like that?
- 0:21But I'm like, they're expensive though.
- 0:23Sister has a pair of Ariots that are like exactly like that, and
- 0:27she never wears it. She's like, I'll just give them
- 0:30to you. They're my shooting.
- 0:31Shoes, I shoot really well in them.
- 0:33I don't know what it is, but like, do you ever feel like you
- 0:35like feel your feet moving? Yeah 100% That's why I like
- 0:38these I. Have a problem with these ones?
- 0:39Yeah, a little heel. I think that helps.
- 0:41Me like kind. Of stay on my toes a little.
- 0:42Flat, yeah, I have like, running shoes I'll shoot in sometimes
- 0:45and they're like a little bit too round, but these Vans are so
- 0:48flat that it's like you're just planted to the ground.
- 0:51So I made sure I was shot in these.
- 0:54But this is exciting, guys. We got a set of guests here.
- 0:59She shoots exes and Jared, 2 Legends, 2 legends.
- 1:06And this is a lot of fun because we've been trying to.
- 1:09I've been a fan of your content for quite some time because one
- 1:12of the things that I like to do is have a lot of fun and promote
- 1:16archery being fun. And I think you do a good job of
- 1:19that, you know, and I think it's impressive the videos you put
- 1:23out. And also you're really good.
- 1:25I mean, like you shoot, you've shot a handful of three hundreds
- 1:28today. You shot well second place. 2nd
- 1:30place today? Yeah, second place.
- 1:32Yeah, So what made you want to do archery content or even get
- 1:35into it initially? OK, so Jared and I lived in an
- 1:38RV for two years after our master's degrees in music, which
- 1:43was we were exhausted. So we're like, OK, let's do
- 1:45something totally different. Moved into the RV.
- 1:49Then after the RV, we did that for two years.
- 1:52We decided that we wanted to settle down and I started
- 1:56feeling like really anxious on the road, which I have never
- 1:59felt like an anxious person, which was, I mean, you were
- 2:01there like it was, I'd wake up like just anxious for.
- 2:05No reason when you live on the road.
- 2:07So there's a lot of uncertainty. There's like where are we going
- 2:08to, where are we going to get water?
- 2:10Where are we going to dump our tanks?
- 2:11Like there's you're always dealing with something.
- 2:13Where are we going to stay tonight?
- 2:14Like anyway? So I started feeling really
- 2:16anxious and I was like, you know what?
- 2:17Let's just move out because like, this isn't like me.
- 2:20I don't like this. So we moved out, got a house,
- 2:22and from there I was like, I need something to do.
- 2:24Like we're used to just hiking and doing all this stuff.
- 2:27And now I'm like, I'm just a loser who lives in a house.
- 2:30I just do nothing now. So from there, my dad has been
- 2:34doing archery for a while. And he was like, hey, like,
- 2:37let's do archery together. And like, this is fun.
- 2:39Like this is something I can kind of do.
- 2:40It's outdoors. I like active stuff.
- 2:43I'm very competitive, like, let's do archery.
- 2:45Sure. And so that's what got me into
- 2:47it. And from there, my first bow was
- 2:51actually a bow my dad had bought me when I was 12, but I hadn't
- 2:54really shot it very much. Yeah, it was a diamond. 320
- 2:57infinite edge. What a classic, what a classic,
- 3:01right? Brianna has one.
- 3:03Well, actually you have a, you have edge Max now.
- 3:05Yeah, Yep. Infinite edge.
- 3:07Yeah. Classic.
- 3:08Yeah. But anyway, so I got back into
- 3:10it with my dad after doing this RV life stuff, and then I got
- 3:14the Elite Basin and I would. Almost followed the same in
- 3:17December. I had the spirit, I've had the
- 3:22elite spirit. It's like a 1012 year old bone.
- 3:26Yeah, they don't make it anymore, but I started with
- 3:29diamonds that only lasted me like 3 months before I was like,
- 3:32OK, I'm I'm good enough that. This is not I like me.
- 3:36Yeah, like, OK, we're going to graduate whisker biscuits.
- 3:39Not it as much as everybody's like Whisper.
- 3:43Biscuits grey for the longest time called a whisker basket.
- 3:46I was wondering I'm like the whisker basket until someone was
- 3:48like I named. One of my dogs whiskey because I
- 3:52went around calling it a whiskey biscuit.
- 3:54I love. That a whiskey biscuit.
- 3:57So yeah, it was really funny because then I went to from
- 4:00there to an elite and then the elite spirit and then had that
- 4:04for till I met him and then got a Bowtech.
- 4:07Cool, Yeah. Awesome.
- 4:08So from there, so I had the elite and I think two months
- 4:12later I was like, I love this so much.
- 4:13I'm getting a target boat. So I'd only been shooting for
- 4:15about two months. I'm like, let's go target.
- 4:18Those are the best. My dad had one.
- 4:21And so and then it just went from there and I just practiced,
- 4:24practiced and I was obsessed. And yeah, you know what I think?
- 4:29I think it was an outlet because you were in music school.
- 4:32And if you're in there because you're competitive, like that's
- 4:34just who you are. Like it just drives you.
- 4:36And so like, I think being in the RVI lost that.
- 4:39And I actually think that's why I got anxious and that's why I
- 4:42had issues. It's because I just didn't have
- 4:44that like direction and focus. And it's a, it's a very singular
- 4:49focus, you know. Oh, and you just.
- 4:52All. All in yeah, it's it's just very
- 4:57different like the way a musician I guess is like how
- 5:02focused you are on, on any, whether it's one given piece of
- 5:06music or, you know, one given skill you're trying to practice
- 5:11or one solo or whatever it is like an archery is very, very
- 5:16similar to that. And so it, but it's like we're
- 5:20just talking about like there's so many pros and cons to having
- 5:25been a physician and then going to archery.
- 5:28And but then archery you can also start differently, like,
- 5:32and you started in your shooting where it's like I started and
- 5:35then went straight to hunting. Yeah.
- 5:37Like I picked up a boat, 2 hunts.
- 5:40And I feel like that's what most people, that's what most people
- 5:42get driven to. So like, yeah, I recognize that
- 5:45my path was a little strange, Like I just loved target
- 5:49archery. But I think that's.
- 5:50It's almost good or better I guess because it ingrains the
- 5:55like necessary positive skills so long as like you're learning
- 5:58it correctly, but it ingrains the necessary positive skills
- 6:02that make you a better hunter. Whereas if you start with
- 6:06hunching, if you don't have good, you know, friends that are
- 6:10teaching you things, IE such as my draw that James met me with,
- 6:14you know, you can learn some bad habits and, and you can either
- 6:19way. But you know, because this is so
- 6:22focused on just the archery alone, there's no other aspects.
- 6:26There's no being quiet, there's no scent, there's no stocking,
- 6:28there's no, nothing else. You, if you start with this, I
- 6:33think so long as you then get some good teachers in the
- 6:36hunting world, year 10 times better by being a better Archer
- 6:40first and a better hunter second.
- 6:43Oh yeah. But you do have to develop the
- 6:46having skills, otherwise, yeah. Well, and I will give credit, I
- 6:52couldn't have done this if I hadn't been to a pro shop off
- 6:54the bat, you know? So like my dad, he knew the
- 6:56path. Like he was like, we're going to
- 6:58take you to the pro shop, you're going to get a bow, They're
- 7:00going to show you your anchor point.
- 7:02And they did. And so I learned everything
- 7:03right the first time. Yeah, which is like, unique.
- 7:06I feel like most people who start archery are like, oh, like
- 7:09I did it since I was 8 and I was an S3-DA and I had a coach and
- 7:12blah, blah, blah. And you just kind of had these
- 7:13habits. I just didn't have that, you
- 7:16know? So I'm lucky for that.
- 7:18So this is your, your guys's second time doing Vegas, right?
- 7:22Vegas. So it wasn't at the same venue
- 7:25last year. Last year was the first year
- 7:27here. OK.
- 7:28So what was what was that experience like?
- 7:29Because obviously I'm, I'm doing that this year, but what, what
- 7:34was it like showing up here and just the amount of people being
- 7:37in Vegas, being on the Strip and then like the hustle and bustle,
- 7:41like what was the difference that you noticed year one
- 7:43between that and just shooting at the range like by yourself or
- 7:47with a couple buddies? So when I was here for my first
- 7:49year, I don't think I felt, I never felt any nerves on the
- 7:52line. So for me, I would wake up in
- 7:54the morning, I was like, this is real and I was stressed.
- 7:57But then it would fade. And when I got to the line, it
- 7:59felt good. And I wasn't really overwhelmed.
- 8:01I mean, it's just so friendly here, like you've seen it.
- 8:03And then once you shoot flights, it's just like everybody's there
- 8:06just doing their thing. So I was, I was pleasantly
- 8:09surprised or pleasantly surprised about how just cool
- 8:13everyone was. So I always, I always felt
- 8:15comfortable here. I feel like that's what I
- 8:18noticed today is I guess indoor. You think as a as a guy who shot
- 8:233D and haunted my whole life, I shot a bow since I was like 3,
- 8:27but I've only done indoor. This is my first ever indoor
- 8:30competition ever. Not our league, nothing.
- 8:33So like, yeah, it's kind of crazy, but but like, I, you
- 8:38know, I think you are under the impression that it's going to be
- 8:41like super stale and quiet and golf claps and very rigid, you
- 8:46know, and everybody. 'S competitive like in
- 8:48competitive mode. And, and what's funny is like
- 8:50golf is not even like that. It's like what you think it is,
- 8:53but like when you're golfing, it's very fun.
- 8:55It's like you're cracking pops and badgering your buddies and
- 8:59like having a great time. And that's how this felt.
- 9:01This felt very fun to me. And I was unsure when we came,
- 9:06like, I don't know if I'll ever do this again.
- 9:07I'm like, this could be the end of our indoor chapter.
- 9:10But even just after today, I know I'll come back.
- 9:14All right? You know, because old because
- 9:16like you said, it's like it's it is fun and the energy is good.
- 9:19And weirdly enough, I actually felt more comfortable shooting
- 9:23on a line full of people than like shooting by myself at
- 9:27performance, you know what I mean?
- 9:28Like. We're just going to get packed
- 9:30in here, too. Yeah.
- 9:31This is like true. You're going to have a target on
- 9:33every single four targets on each bill like it gets.
- 9:36Yeah. And, and spectators, it's going
- 9:37to get. Yeah.
- 9:38So what I want to know is how do you feel about the timer?
- 9:41Oh my gosh, are. You are you best.
- 9:43Friends, I love it. I love.
- 9:45It I hated the timer really. When I first got here I felt so
- 9:48anxious. I felt like everyone was
- 9:50watching. Yeah.
- 9:51It's like no ones watching you. No one has.
- 9:52Yeah. Like that was my thing.
- 9:53And I'm totally over that this year, which I'm like.
- 9:55Yes, Yeah, yeah. What I yeah, what I love about
- 9:59the timer is when I shoot a nine, usually it's because like,
- 10:05I'll fatigue a little and I'll, I'll send one just out of the
- 10:0810. And if I have a timer right
- 10:11there and I'm paying attention to it, I'll pace myself and just
- 10:14set the bow down, stand there for 30 seconds and I'm chilling
- 10:17watching someone else shoot. Whatever you.
- 10:19Just kind of like. Yeah, I like to watch the person
- 10:22next to me shoot or watch the guy over there, like see what's
- 10:24happening and just then when it's time, pull up and shoot.
- 10:28But I've never practiced with a timer before.
- 10:31I knew that I shot fast, like so I know I have time to sell, but
- 10:36I always had either like a timer in my pocket or like now that
- 10:40it's visible, it's so easy to pace for me.
- 10:44When you, I think you learned about it when we went to Greg's
- 10:49and then, you know, then we started like he would go more
- 10:53often than not by himself to the range to just get his couple
- 10:57practices in a week. And then we really did like
- 11:01right before we left, I propped the phone up so he could watch
- 11:05it, see it and see like where he's finishing each shot in
- 11:08time. And when it was like, you're
- 11:10done with all three at like a minute 15, we're like, OK.
- 11:13Let's. Slow down.
- 11:15That was actually sub one minute.
- 11:16I was like 48 seconds a lot. It's just so much time.
- 11:20And so now I think the clock is so bad because he's such a fast
- 11:24shooter that like it's literally the pacer over there telling him
- 11:28no, I cannot shoot until this. You know, I averagely do better
- 11:32if I shoot at the 120 mark for my third shot and then the, you
- 11:36know, 48 second ish for my second.
- 11:38And that forces that little bit of like reset then to because
- 11:44you may not feel the fatigue, but then you draw and you're
- 11:47like, OK, let's just get it back.
- 11:49For me it's more mental fatigue. I don't know if you feel that if
- 11:52it's physical for you or mental, but for me it's like I just get
- 11:55tired for aiming. Like I need that space to just
- 11:58like relax and be like the same person again.
- 12:01For sure. And like, I think giving your
- 12:03eyes a rest too is a pretty big thing.
- 12:06Sit down, look at whatever and then get back into it.
- 12:09And like, I, I think that all makes a big difference.
- 12:12And I have noticed that shooting indoor makes 3D so much easier.
- 12:21But I've noticed that when I come back from like shooting
- 12:24outdoor back to indoor, it's like a harder transition to me
- 12:29to me to go back. Yeah.
- 12:30But indoor for me, like you go shoot outdoor it feels.
- 12:33Like a mental transition. I guess, yeah, it's like, it
- 12:35just feels. Like, yeah, it's easier, it's
- 12:38lighter, at least shoot outdoor. Yeah, it's just different and I
- 12:42think you're aiming at way bigger spots.
- 12:44When you go from indoor to outdoor, like you're 12 rings
- 12:48the size of like almost you're 10, not quite, but so it's it is
- 12:53truly easier in a sense to do outdoor, you're aiming bigger
- 12:59and whatnot, but then you go back.
- 13:02So like your mind I think is common in outdoor and then you
- 13:06come back to indoor and because your mind is so relaxed, you're
- 13:10inherently focusing or in inadvertently subconsciously
- 13:16focusing less than you at you were before you get outdoor.
- 13:20And so obviously it reflects in the score like he went, he shot
- 13:24his tournament won by an enormous amount and then came
- 13:27and shot. The next day we got home and
- 13:29went and shot around at the range and what he was like.
- 13:33It was not my best day. I felt a bit fatigued.
- 13:36But I wonder if it's not as much a physical fatigue between
- 13:41switching bows and as it as it is a mental one of like going
- 13:45from out something that's a bit more relaxed in my opinion to
- 13:49something that requires more dedicated mental focus.
- 13:53Yeah, you got to be super focused on indoor because it's
- 13:55like I look at it like I can't miss 10.
- 13:58And then when I miss one, it's like, oh, you know, bummer butt
- 14:01Jared, do you shoot 2? I have.
- 14:03Shot a little bit. A little bit.
- 14:05I have the elite basin that mentioned is now Smibow.
- 14:08There we go. But I like to tell people I
- 14:11shoot the videos and the photos. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:15He shoots. Photos he shoots.
- 14:18Do you think you would ever like get a get a rig and like
- 14:21actually give? It a give it a go.
- 14:22I'm doing it it's it's fun. I like the outdoor stuff better
- 14:26too so far. Do indoor.
- 14:28I know for sure that you would do outdoor.
- 14:30Never say never. I mean never say never.
- 14:32Line here but. The thing is, I'm like, it's
- 14:35fun. I I'm the backbone over here,
- 14:37you know, like somebody's got to bring the water.
- 14:39Someone's got to bring the. Snacks.
- 14:40Somebody's got to bring the snacks.
- 14:41Somebody's got to be, I want to say the hype man.
- 14:44But like with indoor, it's the Zen man.
- 14:46I'm like, hey Zen, that's. Such a true point.
- 14:50Well, at first I was like, we'd be driving to competition.
- 14:52I'm like let's turn on the tunes.
- 14:53I'm like get excited. And literally last competition.
- 14:57This is hilarious. On the way to Utah Open, it was
- 14:59like a 30 minute drive. It was meditation music for 30
- 15:03minutes, no talking. Yeah, I'm blasted Disney music
- 15:06in the car. We're getting like pulling into
- 15:08Vegas and James is like, okay, you can't, you cannot play.
- 15:11This I just get triggered. You just he tells me it's
- 15:15because I am. What do you call it?
- 15:18You like blackout when a songs on she'll start singing and it's
- 15:21like she doesn't hear anything you say.
- 15:23It's like bro, she's completely gone.
- 15:25Really is I'm completely. Completely gone saying.
- 15:28And he's thinking I'm not. And I'm like, I'm following the
- 15:31direction. Just finally I got off the right
- 15:33exit. What do you follow?
- 15:34The lights? I'm like, what did I do
- 15:36differently? So what so the meditation music?
- 15:39Is that your go to pre shoot vibe?
- 15:42Vibe is yeah, definitely just trying to chill because for me,
- 15:45I get really excited. You know, some people call it
- 15:47nerves. I like to just.
- 15:48It's excitement because at the end of the day, it's like you've
- 15:51done the practice, like you're here just to have fun.
- 15:54Because like if you have regrets, then you have regrets,
- 15:57but like most likely you've practiced so much that you
- 16:00don't. Yeah, for.
- 16:01Sure, At this point you just need to relax.
- 16:02And just trust that. Trust that the work you've done
- 16:05up till now, like you're not going to all of a sudden shoot a
- 16:08300 like the morning of for fun you get.
- 16:11Lucky you get lucky. You're going to like, you have
- 16:13to trust what you've done up to that point.
- 16:16The practice on the opposite and it you know, if whatever say
- 16:19your average is a 290-5296, then if you trust that and are
- 16:24confident, then why in the world other than if you keep thinking
- 16:29about the nerves when you then all of a sudden shoot a, you
- 16:32know, 285? Like, Yep.
- 16:35What's my statistical average? Hey, it's 295, so I'm going to
- 16:39be confident. Think at minimum I'm going to
- 16:40shoot 295 because that's good an average for me.
- 16:43But I think a lot of people come in like what James was talking
- 16:46about and he said it's completely different than what I
- 16:48thought. Like they come in with so much
- 16:52nerves thinking that this is going to be so high stress and I
- 16:55really have to be focused. And when you do that, you're
- 16:57only hurting your own self because that's not how you
- 17:00practice. It's so easy though, because.
- 17:02Your attention? Yeah, please.
- 17:03It's just not a quick announcement.
- 17:04We have an announcement. Folks, grow the line attendees,
- 17:07please don't miss the Grow the Line welcome party, the chat
- 17:10Grow the Line in Paris and. Grow the line.
- 17:14Grow the. Line.
- 17:16And then don't miss the 60th anniversary celebration in the
- 17:20Paris Ballroom from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, including a 1000 scholarship
- 17:26shoot off and spin the wink on my.
- 17:28Toys. All right, I love it.
- 17:29Where you see while you're here in Vegas, we hope you're
- 17:32enjoying yourself. I wonder if it'll be.
- 17:34Start the line again. Stand about.
- 17:36Do you think it'll be socially acceptable for me to crush tall
- 17:39boys at that social or what? Well, you know, yeah, I'm.
- 17:43Sure, someone will tell you. Yeah, someone will.
- 17:48But we don't go to those either. No TAC is the best.
- 17:51Have you guys been to 1? Never done any tac.
- 17:53OK. You guys are going to have to.
- 17:54This year we're hitting TAC. So when we're planning, you
- 17:56know. We're for sure, I think, going
- 17:59to go to the one in South Dakota.
- 18:00South Dakota. We're deciding TBD on Montana.
- 18:03OK, yeah, Montana, dude, that's a beautiful thing.
- 18:06Yeah. Oh my gosh.
- 18:08It's like the prettiest area I've ever seen.
- 18:10OK, so follow up question, yeah, would it be weird for someone to
- 18:13bring a Target phone? No, see, it's like OK, because.
- 18:17I'm seeing a lot, but you people do it.
- 18:19Yeah, not not very often, but people do it.
- 18:20And I. Figure out I'm like, Oh well,
- 18:22what? What bow do I want to bring?
- 18:23The only problem is like you probably can't shoot far enough
- 18:25with your target bow, so like you taking.
- 18:27That thing to reading this year, Oh yeah, we're going to do.
- 18:30It I can't wait for reading. It's going to are you going?
- 18:32Oh yeah, that's my bread and butter right there.
- 18:35Outdoor my first time. Oh yeah, no, well, I'm not
- 18:37reading itself. I've never been, but outdoor,
- 18:40Outdoor is what I do, Yeah. So you've never done reading
- 18:42either, No. They throw a big throw a big
- 18:45orange dot on every single target.
- 18:47It's like you don't got a I mean you will index but like there's.
- 18:51Not. You're not indexing.
- 18:53Find the orange dot. That's it.
- 18:57This is dude. My phone is wigging out Greg I
- 18:59thought he had a tripod for me, but I I'm unsure still we well,
- 19:03we have a backpack tripod though Shout out to marsupial.
- 19:06It's working great. Look at this sucker over here
- 19:09but. It is annoying me that the
- 19:10camera won't flip until you rotate the screen, but it's
- 19:13fine. I know that I set it up right, I
- 19:15just had to look at it upside down when I walked away.
- 19:17We have a production talk on the pod.
- 19:19I love it. Our pod goes wherever it's
- 19:21conversational, which I like. We're not a interview space, you
- 19:25know, so we can conversate about whatever.
- 19:27But what I will say is my go to music is always Taylor Swift.
- 19:32Taylor Swift. I'm a Swifty though.
- 19:34Yes, I am a Swifty. Fate of Ophelia is my favorite
- 19:37joint right now. Oh my gosh, it's so catchy and
- 19:41she hates on her. I'm like, you're just being a
- 19:43SO. Do you do the dance?
- 19:44There's like a dance. Oh no, I need to learn it
- 19:46though. Yeah, we do.
- 19:47You see a reel of that? I am in, I am all the way in.
- 19:51So what's like the inspiration between beside a lot of your
- 19:54guys content? Like are you coming up with
- 19:56ideas or you or kind of a collection?
- 19:58Definitely me, Jared. You did.
- 20:03So we have another account called Jared and Kayla and we
- 20:06did skits on there and that was like RV life.
- 20:08That's what taught us how to do content outdoor good stuff, you
- 20:11know, And he, he came up with a lot of funny skits on there.
- 20:15But with the archery stuff, that's pretty much me and it
- 20:19just hits. I don't know.
- 20:20Yeah, it's fun. I like your.
- 20:21Stuff like, let's teach someone about this, let's make something
- 20:23funny about this. Normally I'm scrolling, yeah.
- 20:26I don't hear something. I'm like that's.
- 20:27We try to yeah, jump on trends or yeah, come up with the
- 20:31original stuff. Yeah, I like the games that you
- 20:33do because we actually sell archery games.
- 20:35So we sell golf, baseball, beer pong and the battleship.
- 20:40Oh, fun. And I love doing games because
- 20:41they focus. You want to be competitive.
- 20:43You want to do good, good time. It's so fun.
- 20:46And and I I saw the one you did like what did you call the one
- 20:49with the post it notes? Assassin.
- 20:50Assassin looked fun. Oh.
- 20:52Yeah, so fun. I would love to try Assassin's.
- 20:54Over, you know, my favorite. Only one, though, still is the
- 20:58balloon. Bingo.
- 20:59Did you see that one? No, I don't think I did balloon.
- 21:01Bingo is the best. So what you do is you cut out
- 21:04all of these bingo numbers and you put them in a balloon,
- 21:07right? Put all the balloons up.
- 21:09In them before you blow it up. I would hate it.
- 21:11It'd be like, wow, so. Then you put all the balloons up
- 21:14on the wall and you all have a bingo card and you take turns
- 21:17shooting and whatever balloon pops has the number that would
- 21:20be so anyone can win, you know, So it's like if you have someone
- 21:23who hasn't shot any balloons, oh, it's perfect.
- 21:26And you? Guys, how many balloons did you
- 21:28put up there? Like 50, Like 50.
- 21:30They were like. The whole range was like tons of
- 21:32balloons. It was so fun.
- 21:34That's cool. And I think that that's one
- 21:36thing going back to content ideas that she's trying to
- 21:39accomplish, we're trying to accomplish is like shooting
- 21:41should be fun. Yes, you know, and especially
- 21:43for women to like she's doing these games at Ladies night,
- 21:46just like get out there and have fun.
- 21:47And there's so much like hunting and like men, you know, old
- 21:52lady, she loves doing. She does them every week.
- 21:54Maybe we got to switch our move from Arizona to Idaho.
- 21:57Yeah. Maybe we could do great things.
- 21:59Oh yeah. That'd be fun.
- 22:00Got to do Arizona first. It's in my.
- 22:02Life. You know, but, but no.
- 22:05After that I could go wherever. Yeah, I totally agree though I
- 22:07think the fun element is the biggest thing.
- 22:09And for us, I mean, doing the indoor thing and doing the video
- 22:14series and coming out here was because I, I want people that
- 22:18are like me who've only ever haunted and maybe done 3D, who
- 22:23are like, I'm not going to go do that.
- 22:24It's so boring. And like, that's wack.
- 22:26Like, you know, and I think that's what a lot of people
- 22:27think. But it's not like that.
- 22:29Once you dive in and have fun, all it does is make you better
- 22:32at those things. And it's still so much fun.
- 22:35I had a great time shooting over there today.
- 22:37Like just as much fun. Yeah.
- 22:39Just as much fun as attack or anything like.
- 22:41That is actually really unique also is that you'll meet pros
- 22:45here. Yeah, and they're just normal
- 22:47people. Of course.
- 22:48And you chat and they'll talk to you.
- 22:50And that is, that is really cool.
- 22:52Yeah, yeah. So talk to me about you got to
- 22:56meet coach over there, Coach Joel, and he was helping you
- 22:59out. How was that experience?
- 23:01Because I'm sure it was probably your first time meeting, right?
- 23:03Yeah, it is. So Joel is funny because on my
- 23:06Instagram, I'll post videos and he'll like slide in there like,
- 23:10well, Are you sure? Have you thought about this?
- 23:12Yeah. And I'm just like.
- 23:14Yeah. I think so.
- 23:15I think I'm sure you know what I mean.
- 23:17Yeah, I totally know. Chatted about that today and
- 23:20it's great and he's so smart. Oh my gosh.
- 23:23I'm like, you need to, you need to train me.
- 23:26And not only smart coach, not only smart with his shot
- 23:30process, which some people shoot that way, some don't, is what it
- 23:33is, but he's also very smart with both setup and has helped
- 23:36me a lot with that. That's what I need.
- 23:38I need a wizard for my both setup.
- 23:40Well, dude, I, I got to be honest, I had for someone who's
- 23:44done indoor for a total of 6 weeks, I had like, I was so
- 23:48fortunate to have like the most illustrious group of coaches.
- 23:53You're like Paige Pierce fixing my bow.
- 23:55Joel Turner called. Yeah.
- 23:56Greg building my arrows like oh that wrong.
- 23:59So I got really lucky, you know, but.
- 24:01So if you like really shoot terrible, it's all you, of
- 24:03course. And The thing is, like, we were
- 24:05talking about this over there. I've never been a guy who, like,
- 24:08blames equipment ever. I'm always like, it's always
- 24:11it's me. If I miss, it's just me, no?
- 24:16I definitely, I hate changing things.
- 24:18I hate, hate, hate changing things.
- 24:20Like I don't like experimenting with arrows even they're like,
- 24:23oh, let's just try a different knock.
- 24:24I'm like, no, I'm good. I'd rather not.
- 24:27I just don't like it. Which I guess it's just normal
- 24:30human, like we don't always have change.
- 24:33And also in music, you know, I played the flute and it's like,
- 24:36it's never the flute, never the flute's problem.
- 24:38Like it's their tools. Yeah, exactly.
- 24:40I do think you can set a tool up to help you.
- 24:43Yeah. And like, I, I think that's the
- 24:45idea, right? It's like, OK, maybe I shoot 90
- 24:47eights a lot. Or what if I just changed one
- 24:49thing on my bow and all of a sudden I shoot 3 hundreds?
- 24:51Yeah, yeah. What's your personal best score
- 24:55currently? My personal best is A323X.
- 25:00That's great. Yeah, I was really happy.
- 25:02What did that? 1st 300 feel like well the first
- 25:04walk me through it. Oh, the first one was crazy.
- 25:07So the first one I ever actually did was I was going to shoot a
- 25:10450 game, shooting, shooting. And then before I knew it, I'm
- 25:14like, Oh my gosh, like I just did a 300.
- 25:16No, this 450 is now a 300. Yeah, like.
- 25:19So did you stop or did you? Or you just realized you were
- 25:22even there. Yeah, that's how mine was too.
- 25:24So it was actually with Greg. It's on film and we were
- 25:27shooting and I wasn't counting rounds or anything.
- 25:30I was just banging middles. And then he's like up there, it
- 25:32is your first 300. And I was like, no shit.
- 25:34And I think it actually was a, I think it was 323 X if I'm not
- 25:38mistaken. I think that was what it was.
- 25:39And my, my best now is 327 X. So I got a little bit, little
- 25:44bit to go, but I made a change on my clarifier that helps so
- 25:48much. I mean, as far as the
- 25:50visibility, what's the biggest? Have you had anything like that?
- 25:54Like me finding a clarifier where it was like just one thing
- 25:57that was like, wow, this is a lot better.
- 25:58OK, so my first target bow was a PSC super focus.
- 26:03Love that bow. It was great. 37 riser, which is
- 26:06like a little big for me. I'm I'm a short little thing.
- 26:08So I now shoot a 34 riser concept FX.
- 26:13But when I got that bow, one of the bow techs was like, hey,
- 26:16let's switch you to a lizard tuck.
- 26:19I need to do. That that really helped.
- 26:20Yeah, I want to do that so. That really helped, yeah.
- 26:23So I just find that like it's just a little bit more spring
- 26:26loaded. It was great.
- 26:28Yeah, yeah, that's, that's one thing.
- 26:30I definitely am going to switch. I'm going to get out of the
- 26:32hunting, fall away. It was just what I had.
- 26:34So we put it. On shot with that forever and I
- 26:36did shoot a 300 LeBlanc yeah. So it's.
- 26:38Like I know it's like nothing but a little.
- 26:41I like how simple, I like the simplicity of something that's
- 26:44not a fall away. And I also like how easy it is
- 26:47to adjust. Like my fall away is kind of
- 26:48tricky to like adjust. It's pretty limited.
- 26:51So that's one thing I want to change.
- 26:52And then when it when we're done with this, I think I'm going to
- 26:55go to the smaller scope housing and and I'm going to play around
- 27:00with the bars more because I haven't done anything to the bow
- 27:02really. So I'm going to mess with that.
- 27:03So what I think is tricky is like you got to be, it's like
- 27:06process, not what is it called? Like when you're doing an
- 27:08experiment, you you change one thing, like variables.
- 27:11Yeah. Because like she just, yeah, she
- 27:13mentioned that she got the the concept FX and the lizard tongue
- 27:16at the same time. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:18And so, so you we can't say like, what was it the lizard
- 27:20tongue or was it the concept of, yeah, good point.
- 27:22You know, so you're like, oh, I want to change the limbs just to
- 27:25do one thing. And then and then you can't
- 27:27shoot it for one day. You got to shoot it for like,
- 27:30you got to give it time. For, you know, right.
- 27:32So I'm like, was it the bow? It could have been.
- 27:35It could have, of course. Totally could have, I don't
- 27:36know. Like most likely not.
- 27:38I mean dude I have literally outdoor before.
- 27:41I'm very rough on my stuff. My indoor bow is the bow I'm the
- 27:45least rough on because it's inside.
- 27:47But my hunting bow and my outdoor bow, I mean, I beat it
- 27:50up and that thing has fallen on the ground who knows how many
- 27:52times on rocks. I've I've walked on it on
- 27:55accident. Once I was filming and I backed
- 27:57up, literally just walked right over.
- 27:59And it never, ever meant like it's just always as good.
- 28:02So I'm like, bows are tougher, I think than people give them
- 28:05credit for too. It's like my favorite excuse is
- 28:08when you're shooting with somebody and they're having a
- 28:10rough day and they're like, I, I must have bumped my side.
- 28:12I'm like buddy, I don't. Think you did though, I think.
- 28:14I think. Your question earlier is about
- 28:17blaming the equipment. It's the easiest thing, yeah.
- 28:19It's just the easiest thing to be like, oh, something's like
- 28:22you don't want to take personal accountability.
- 28:24Easiest fix as well, right? Like, oh, it turns out that it
- 28:27was. Easier to change the equipment
- 28:28that it is to fix you. Yeah, good point your.
- 28:31Form your mental that you picked up on like and you learned it
- 28:35from Paige a lot is that like there's nothing wrong with you.
- 28:40Just change your verbiage. Instead of blaming the
- 28:43equipment, experiment with the equipment.
- 28:46So. You know, like go in and change,
- 28:49like you said the wrong thing, but don't give it one day and be
- 28:53like, oh, that just didn't work for me.
- 28:55Give it like a three-week period of testing that whether it's a,
- 28:59you know, moving your bar adjustment or it's changing
- 29:02your. Site or whatever.
- 29:04And then decide if you like it, don't like it.
- 29:07If you do, then make your. Next.
- 29:09Change. Until you find the.
- 29:11Words for you. But if you're always, if you're
- 29:15always like the mindset James used to have of like, Nope, it
- 29:19can only be me, you're not finding what works best.
- 29:22Yeah, you're kind of you're kind of limiting yourself a little
- 29:24bit. So that was something, again,
- 29:26something indoor taught me, you know, have you shot much 3D
- 29:30stuff like outside? No.
- 29:33Is that something you want to? Yeah, we're going.
- 29:35Yeah, you said ready. For treaty is going to be.
- 29:38Great going to you got a shoot attack, you have to, I'm
- 29:41telling. You.
- 29:41I will. Yeah.
- 29:42I'll shoot the videos and the phone.
- 29:43Come on, come on, come on. Pass the camera back and forth.
- 29:47I think you should do it. You'll have so much fun.
- 29:48But dude, TAC is like TAC is very much like this, you know?
- 29:53And I don't think most people would make that comp, but me as
- 29:56someone who's done a million tacks and filmed a million of
- 29:59them and now done this, it really is similar because you
- 30:03have tons of people that love archery and just having a good
- 30:06vibe. It's it really is comparable.
- 30:09I mean, obviously it's less physical, you're not getting
- 30:11sunburned, you're not hiking, but like the vibe is similar.
- 30:15Relax between the shocks because it is so vibe you can say from
- 30:22target to target, so everyone just bantering and talking
- 30:26behind you when you know you pull up to shoot and then after
- 30:29that you're standing there for another 10 minutes, depending on
- 30:32your group size while they all shoot that target because a lot
- 30:35of them it's not possible to shoot all at once like you do
- 30:38here. Like your window's this big.
- 30:40So it's one at a time. And so it just teaches you to
- 30:44like I I'd call it compartmentalizing.
- 30:47And I think James does a phenomenal job.
- 30:49Like you saw, like he can chat your ear.
- 30:50You're all so impressed and then so impressed.
- 30:53Arrow draws both focus and then go right back to jail.
- 30:56You really, you can really just turn it on and off.
- 30:58Yeah, I'm a little more like I got to like zone out, Yeah, to
- 31:01kind of like get this in. I kind of messed with her one
- 31:04time today so. Was it at the end toward the end
- 31:07because I saw her do like a head tap or?
- 31:08Something. Well, no.
- 31:09So what happened was her and Towson were battling like neck
- 31:13and neck. I think he was at the time.
- 31:15He was ahead by 1. And I watch him miss one, right?
- 31:19And I, she, she had just drawn back.
- 31:21And I go, yeah. And then she hears me go.
- 31:24I go, I go, hey, this is your shot.
- 31:27I go. A lot of pressure, but you could
- 31:29do it, you know? And she just goes.
- 31:31And she did. She drained it.
- 31:33And she did win, got second place.
- 31:35So it was so much fun. And it was interesting too,
- 31:38because we were shooting that match, all three of us.
- 31:41And it's interesting because we're all joking around like
- 31:44that was actually more pressure than tomorrow because more
- 31:46people are going to watch. That then, you know what I'm
- 31:48saying? I hadn't even thought about that
- 31:50more before going to see, you know.
- 31:51Joel Turner's watching. Greg came by.
- 31:54People are like there and yeah, isn't that funny?
- 31:57And I was shooting photos in the videos.
- 31:59Photos in the videos. Yep.
- 32:00So give me, give me your shooting.
- 32:03What? What's your goal for the
- 32:05weekend? Like what would you be really
- 32:06happy if you finished the weekend and this is the score?
- 32:10And if I could shoot a 300 here, I mean, that would be gold.
- 32:12Yeah. I just want, I don't like
- 32:16putting expectations on myself. Yeah, I want to just run my shot
- 32:20process. Yep, Yep.
- 32:22You know, because I find once I'm like, I have to shoot above
- 32:25a 295, which I would say that's like normally I shoot above a
- 32:29295. But like I settle there
- 32:31sometimes. Yeah.
- 32:33But I just find if I'm like being number oriented, I keep
- 32:36track of nines too much. And it's like, Nope, we
- 32:40practiced so that we don't have to keep track of nines, We don't
- 32:43have to track our mistakes here. I think that is like the
- 32:46smartest way to put it. And if you didn't even mean to
- 32:50put it that way, but you did. So like Joel's whole business is
- 32:54based around like mindset essentially and using the right
- 32:58parts of your mind, the way you think their thoughts and
- 33:01whatnot. And so if you're and then you
- 33:04you kind of add that to like Paige had said they were, they
- 33:07were up there filming and James shoots and he goes, yeah, I
- 33:10just, you know, he kept like doing something and he goes, I
- 33:12just told myself, don't shoot high.
- 33:14And she goes, So what did you do?
- 33:16He goes, well, I shot high. She goes because you said your
- 33:18mind doesn't register the what you want it to do and register
- 33:21what you told it not to do. And so that's all it's thinking
- 33:24about. And you don't even realize your
- 33:25mind is dude because you use such a small portion of your.
- 33:28Brand and people do it all the time, too, Like someone just
- 33:31shot an 8, They come back to you and they're like, I just shot an
- 33:338, you're going to shoot another.
- 33:35Yeah. So don't even admit it.
- 33:36Yeah. So to think.
- 33:38One shot at a time. So to think, you know, when you
- 33:41ask the question like what, what would be your expectation for
- 33:44yourself for the weekend, what you want to do?
- 33:46And so if you've set that in your brain, you're concreting it
- 33:49almost. Whereas if you just do the
- 33:52drill, just do the drill of my goal is to just shoot my
- 33:56repetitive process. Because if you can walk away and
- 34:00say, hey, all 90 arrows this weekend was my process, well
- 34:05then that's the best goal. That's the best score you could
- 34:07have. Because everyone.
- 34:10Was. Whereas and that could be a 300
- 34:14because you've already shot 300 before, but if you set it up to
- 34:1795, you're not even thinking about a 300.
- 34:20Your brain constantly keeps saying 295.
- 34:22It's head. Well, and that's the trick,
- 34:23right? Because when we're playing our
- 34:24game, we're doing our shoot off and you know, you're like, OK,
- 34:27this arrow really matters. It's like.
- 34:30We don't care. Doesn't matter any more than the
- 34:32other ones. Exactly.
- 34:32Yeah, so like all that matters is just running and shooting how
- 34:36you shoot. Yep, that's it.
- 34:38Eliminating the brain, just like you know who you are and where
- 34:41you're at. Yeah, I I totally agree.
