- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today an interesting concept I want to share with you that
- 0:35something that has been brought up to me about my behavior.
- 0:40So obviously y'all know I love my chickens.
- 0:43I'm shoot this from the chicken coop.
- 0:45I currently have babies in the chicken coop.
- 0:49It is a very exciting time, springtime for me and, and for
- 0:54everybody, not just me, but I particularly love springtime
- 0:58'cause it's like that rejuvenation.
- 1:00It's like the purge. You clean out, you, you get
- 1:02things going, the garden's going, flowers are growing, lots
- 1:05of things are happening, baby chicks are being hatched, Lots
- 1:08of good stuff. Well, someone pointed out to me
- 1:11your chickens are very spoiled and it's just not necessary to
- 1:17be that way with chickens. And you know, at first I was
- 1:21like, what is wrong with this person?
- 1:25Because I felt like I had to convince this person of the
- 1:29quality of the identity of chickens.
- 1:33And then I realized what was really going on.
- 1:35For me, it was that I was trying to prove that my efforts were
- 1:39worthwhile. And when I had that aha moment,
- 1:42and I mean it was like a slap in the head when I realized as I'm
- 1:45having this conversation, what the hell am I doing?
- 1:47Why am I talking to this person about this?
- 1:49Clearly we are not like minded people.
- 1:52Clearly we are coming from two different directions.
- 1:55So what am I trying to prove in having this conversation with
- 1:59this person? Am I trying to prove that I'm
- 2:02right? Maybe.
- 2:04And that really got to me because I don't, I don't profess
- 2:09that I am right in any situation.
- 2:12I just offer opportunities, especially in coaching, I want
- 2:15to always offer my people perspective and new ideas and
- 2:18ways to think of things. So when this was brought up to
- 2:21me, it was kind of like I was trying to prove that my efforts
- 2:25were worthwhile. And then I started thinking
- 2:27about, well, where else does that show up?
- 2:29How often do I do that? Do I try to prove that I have my
- 2:33efforts are worthy of your acknowledgement?
- 2:36And the truth is a lot because it was just ingrained to me
- 2:42early on. You do things to make other
- 2:44people happy. And I think a lot of us are in
- 2:48that mindset where we do things to, quote UN quote, make other
- 2:52people happy. But the reality is we are really
- 2:54doing it to make ourselves happy because of the acknowledgments
- 2:58that we get. And there's no reason why we
- 3:00can't give ourselves the acknowledgements.
- 3:02Now. Years ago I had started doing
- 3:04this thing where I give myself, I track all my activities, I put
- 3:07them into a daily planner. I use Passion planner by the
- 3:11way, no promo here. I don't get paid by them.
- 3:14But I absolutely love their books, passionplanner.com.
- 3:17I love their erasable pens, their stickers, everything about
- 3:20them. And I give myself stickers when
- 3:22I have great days because I loved them as a kid and they
- 3:24make me happy. And I acknowledge I do all of
- 3:28that because it makes me happy. I track it because it gives my
- 3:32certainty girl proof. But this comes down to something
- 3:35different when I'm challenged with something and I need
- 3:40somebody else to see, no, no, no, what I'm doing is valuable.
- 3:44I need you to see I'm valuable. My efforts are valuable.
- 3:48What I believe are this. And I had this aha moment the
- 3:51other day about it. And I was like, wow, Right down
- 3:54to just even when you think you are so far along in the process,
- 3:59right when you're at that cusp, the universe and God remind you,
- 4:03not so much sweet potato. Let's back it up here and say,
- 4:07hey, you're always in learning, you're always in growth, you're
- 4:10always expanding, you're always giving yourself new
- 4:14perspectives. So in that moment, I recognized
- 4:17I am not trying to do anything other than make this
- 4:22acknowledgement from this person, get this acknowledgement
- 4:25from this person that I was right with my efforts going in
- 4:31the right direction because to them, chickens are stupid.
- 4:36They weren't worthy of anything. And then I realized when I had
- 4:39that, I was like, wow, I could sit here and talk all day to
- 4:43this person and try to convince them, but it's not going to
- 4:46change their point of view. And more importantly, it's going
- 4:49to frustrate me. Not from just the fact that
- 4:53they're not getting that, that chickens are not that way.
- 4:57But again, it comes down to what do they believe about me?
- 5:01And so they look at me and they say, well, she's just silly.
- 5:05She's just a silly girl. And you know what?
- 5:08Maybe I am a silly girl and I am truly OK with that.
- 5:12It caught me off guard, but once I recognized it, I was like,
- 5:15wow, no, I am OK being silly. I am OK being the person that
- 5:19does things differently. I am OK being the person that,
- 5:23you know, this whole thing came about because of the whole
- 5:26conversation around how often you change your coop out, how
- 5:30often you clean them, what you do with them, how you talk to
- 5:32them. You don't have to buy them that
- 5:34quality of food. It was like this whole very
- 5:36dynamic conversation about you don't the care of chickens.
- 5:42And the truth is, I care for all of my beings this way.
- 5:46It doesn't matter if you're my son, my daughter, my chickens,
- 5:50everybody is going to be that way.
- 5:51And the reason that it's that way is I have incredibly high
- 5:55standards and it's not just for them and their well-being, but
- 5:58it's for me and my well-being. And then when I keep, I have to
- 6:01keep circling back to that. So I'm going to challenge you
- 6:05all to really take a look at when somebody has that effect on
- 6:09you. When somebody says something and
- 6:12you are arguing your points, you have to look back and say, you
- 6:16know, what's what's really happening here?
- 6:18Am I doing this because I am trying to help that person, or
- 6:23am I doing it to prove something to myself?
- 6:26And the reality is you already know about yourself.
- 6:29You already know what you need to tell yourself.
- 6:31You already know where that is, and you don't need to prove
- 6:33anything to anybody. It's often said that the person
- 6:37that talks is the person that doesn't know anything.
- 6:41And I'm not going to say that that's true because I don't
- 6:45believe that that's true completely.
- 6:48But I will say in our culture right now, there are a ton of
- 6:51people out there who want to force things on us.
- 6:55And it doesn't have to be that way.
- 6:58So I'm going to tell you, look at this because it was a
- 7:01profound aha for me in an area where I've already had it many
- 7:05times. And it was thrilling to see that
- 7:08it can still show up and help. So I hope you guys have a
- 7:10blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 7:13Bye.
