- 1:11Speaker 5: Like if you were a head coach, I mean, I've
- 1:12Speaker 5: known it's a little early in the show here, you know, like,
- 1:15Speaker 5: what what would you say?
- 1:16Speaker 4: The first thing I do is I'd introduce myself.
- 1:18Speaker 5: Please allow myself, Yeah, to introduce Here's.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Why I think myself. I'm not talking out of school here,
- 1:23Speaker 4: but no scouting database and you know system was really antiquated.
- 1:30Speaker 4: I was asked to sit in on some meetings to
- 1:33Speaker 4: bring in some of the developers that I had worked
- 1:36Speaker 4: with in the past to bring this up to date.
- 1:39Speaker 4: The scouts were involved. Belichick was in in one of
- 1:41Speaker 4: the meetings and went to about three or four before
- 1:43Speaker 4: Billson wis year and I got kicked out.
- 1:45Speaker 5: So blame the drafting on Fred.
- 1:49Speaker 6: I think we maybe need a minor key version of
- 1:51Speaker 6: its on because it was pretty morose in that locker
- 1:53Speaker 6: room today arose.
- 1:54Speaker 7: I've done it a few times, bluggerworthy.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Thank you, but I need to know the Fred Kirsch questions,
- 2:00Speaker 5: what's your plan, what's your structure? Who do you have?
- 2:03Speaker 5: You know, what's going to be your staff?
- 2:04Speaker 4: To look inside your soul? You need a staff, but
- 2:07Speaker 4: you don't.
- 2:08Speaker 5: You still need an offensive coordinator, Like someone's going to
- 2:11Speaker 5: be the offensive.
- 2:13Speaker 4: But he's the guy that calls the place.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I know, but you still need an offensive
- 2:16Speaker 5: coordinating gulp.
- 2:17Speaker 4: You you need a guy to help you coordinate the offense.
- 2:20Speaker 5: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Presented by Toyota's official website for deal buy a Toyota
- 2:26Speaker 2: dot com.
- 2:29Speaker 4: All right, welcome to Pagers Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 2:32Speaker 4: at Jillette Stadium, and we're still recovering, analyzing, dissecting, digesting
- 2:39Speaker 4: the departure of Girodmeo Sunday night, and now we're getting
- 2:44Speaker 4: into who's next, the searching, the search begins. Uh, and
- 2:49Speaker 4: we're gonna talk about all of that. The hot names
- 2:52Speaker 4: out there who might also be out there besides Ben
- 2:55Speaker 4: Johnson and Vrabel, who are the two big names. Uh,
- 2:59Speaker 4: we'll talk about that. And I also want to get
- 3:01Speaker 4: into this whole Elliott Wolf thing because we have a
- 3:04Speaker 4: lot of people, you know, I'm not gonna lie. We
- 3:07Speaker 4: have a lot of fans who are wondering, you know,
- 3:10Speaker 4: with the with the bad drafts that Robert Kraft talked
- 3:13Speaker 4: about yesterday, do we need some type of restructure or
- 3:18Speaker 4: change going on there? Or like, why aren't there more
- 3:21Speaker 4: questions being asked about that part of the organization And.
- 3:26Speaker 5: You got a movie badge.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Oh thank you.
- 3:28Speaker 5: I would just be patient with that, Yeah, because I do.
- 3:32Speaker 5: One of the things that Robert said yesterday that resonated
- 3:34Speaker 5: with me is that the head coach will have a say.
- 3:37Speaker 8: You know.
- 3:38Speaker 5: He was asked specifically about personnel play you know, players, coaches,
- 3:41Speaker 5: you know, his staff, and Robert said, yes, he will
- 3:45Speaker 5: have a say, and now he answered players and coaches.
- 3:47Speaker 5: But I took that as you know, all everything is
- 3:50Speaker 5: sort of fluid until they figure out the direction that
- 3:53Speaker 5: they're going to.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Apparently Phil Perry talked to somebody because he came out
- 3:56Speaker 4: today and said that whoever the coach is, if that
- 4:00Speaker 4: coach wants his own person, that coach will be able
- 4:04Speaker 4: to have his own person. And that makes sense. I mean,
- 4:08Speaker 4: you know, right now, uh time is of the essence
- 4:13Speaker 4: and these the main guys, and probably it's Ben Johnson
- 4:17Speaker 4: and Rabel, but there might be a couple others. They've
- 4:20Speaker 4: got leverage, you know, if they want something, they're probably
- 4:23Speaker 4: going to get it. Whether it's with the Patriots or
- 4:25Speaker 4: whatever team they're interviewing with, they're probably gonna get what
- 4:29Speaker 4: they want because it's not like there's a you know,
- 4:33Speaker 4: this huge list of really you know, hot names and
- 4:37Speaker 4: qualified guys that everybody wants. It seems like everybody wants
- 4:40Speaker 4: either Rabel or Ben Johnson, right Am, I right.
- 4:45Speaker 5: It's the only two names that get a lot of
- 4:46Speaker 5: I mean, there's.
- 4:46Speaker 4: A lot of other names out there, but the Brian.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Has been throwing out Robert, I think is interviewing with
- 4:55Speaker 5: Jacksonville today.
- 4:57Speaker 9: I think we also should mention a coordinator in Detroit.
- 5:02Speaker 9: You know, there's a lot of names, but there's clearly
- 5:05Speaker 9: two front runners for everybody's two apples of everybody's eye
- 5:10Speaker 9: with with Rabel and and Ben Johnson. So it yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 9: you gotta.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Should that be the case? Should should? You know, let's
- 5:19Speaker 4: talk about why. Why do you think these two guys
- 5:21Speaker 4: are the cream of the crop?
- 5:23Speaker 9: Well, I think it's two different types of personality, and
- 5:25Speaker 9: it depends on what you want in a coach. You know,
- 5:27Speaker 9: Rabel is gonna build a culture. He's gonna come in
- 5:29Speaker 9: here and he's gonna instill a culture, a you know,
- 5:33Speaker 9: sort of code of conduct and in a way of
- 5:35Speaker 9: doing things, and has obviously approven track record in Tennessee.
- 5:39Speaker 9: So that that's sort of the pitch on him. And
- 5:42Speaker 9: Ben Johnson is one of the best offensive mines in
- 5:44Speaker 9: the NFL. And in an offensive league and in a
- 5:48Speaker 9: quarterback league, do you hire the guy that knows how
- 5:52Speaker 9: to call plays and design an offense? And that's just
- 5:55Speaker 9: you know, it's the Kyle Shanahan, it's the Sean McVay,
- 5:57Speaker 9: it's the Matt Lafleur in Green Bay. You know, that's
- 6:00Speaker 9: that's the mod.
- 6:01Speaker 5: So with another one that I left out of my
- 6:03Speaker 5: little rant earlier.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Yeah, So with Rabel, you get the experience as a
- 6:06Speaker 4: head coach. With Johnson, you get the o C, the
- 6:11Speaker 4: hot O C. Yes, but you don't have the head
- 6:15Speaker 4: coach experience of the two. Like does does that? Does
- 6:20Speaker 4: one of them get an edge because of their attributes
- 6:23Speaker 4: their superpower?
- 6:24Speaker 6: I think your your what's your flavor preference? Yeah, what's
- 6:27Speaker 6: your preference? I can make arguments for both those guys,
- 6:30Speaker 6: I think. I mean, look, I've I've wanted Mike ra Able
- 6:32Speaker 6: to be the successor of Bill Belichick for a while now,
- 6:35Speaker 6: so you know, I don't know if I'm as quite
- 6:37Speaker 6: passionate about that as when I was a fan. Now
- 6:39Speaker 6: I'm I'm a little klane. I was going to introduce
- 6:41Speaker 6: him to me once, but he didn't make it happen.
- 6:42Speaker 6: I was pretty upset about it. But you got the
- 6:46Speaker 6: you got the big what's up?
- 6:47Speaker 5: But I told you, if the players used to like me, they.
- 6:50Speaker 7: Used to like you.
- 6:51Speaker 6: But uh, you know, I think, like Kevin said, there's
- 6:53Speaker 6: a lot of appeal to both guys, and it's just
- 6:54Speaker 6: a question of do you want to take a shot
- 6:56Speaker 6: on vrabel again and give him that second opportunity that
- 6:59Speaker 6: sometimes coaches get that second opportunity they see what they
- 7:02Speaker 6: did wrong. We've talked about him learning some of the
- 7:04Speaker 6: offensive side of the ball. You know, maybe this time
- 7:06Speaker 6: he puts it together kind of like Bill does. He
- 7:08Speaker 6: learns from his mistakes, and you know, but Ben Johnson's
- 7:11Speaker 6: that swing for the fence kind of guy. And I mean,
- 7:12Speaker 6: evn't said exactly like you can design an offense in
- 7:15Speaker 6: this league and you know, you get creative. I mean,
- 7:17Speaker 6: they have certainly a flavor to what they do that
- 7:19Speaker 6: you know, is intriguing and kind of fun. So, uh,
- 7:22Speaker 6: I think either way, if either one of those guys
- 7:23Speaker 6: were the option, I'd be.
- 7:24Speaker 4: So Sophie, bring in Johnson. The offensive coordinator isn't as
- 7:28Speaker 4: important if you bring in Vrabel.
- 7:31Speaker 5: But still necessary, not not irrelevant like you no, but.
- 7:35Speaker 4: In essence, oh, in essence, the offense is Ben Johnson's.
- 7:40Speaker 4: If you bring in Vrabel, you need to get a
- 7:44Speaker 4: really good OC because again, we can't forget our prized
- 7:48Speaker 4: asset right now. Drake May and his future and who
- 7:52Speaker 4: runs that offense twenty twenty five is critical.
- 7:56Speaker 9: Yeah, I do wonder with Rabel. I would assume that
- 7:59Speaker 9: he wants to be more of that CEO head coach.
- 8:01Speaker 9: So really you're going to have two play callers, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 9: defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator. Those guys are going to be
- 8:07Speaker 9: calling the plays, whereas if you hire Ben Johnson, he's
- 8:10Speaker 9: calling the offense like you're not hiring Ben Johnson and
- 8:13Speaker 9: then giving offensive play calling to somebody else. So it's
- 8:16Speaker 9: gonna be his show offensively. Forrable, I would assume we
- 8:19Speaker 9: would take more of the Belichick approach of being the CEO.
- 8:22Speaker 9: I think, you know, the biggest thing that I look
- 8:24Speaker 9: at with Rabel I worry about is the ceiling of
- 8:28Speaker 9: the Patriots with Mike Rable as their head coach. I
- 8:30Speaker 9: have no doubt that Mike Rabel would bring a professional
- 8:34Speaker 9: level of competence to this organization and would get them
- 8:38Speaker 9: to you know, eight nine wins eventually maybe ten wins
- 8:42Speaker 9: like he did in Tennessee. But is he going to
- 8:45Speaker 9: get them to that next level where.
- 8:48Speaker 4: He had a playoff he had a Drake May in Tennessee.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Maybe he would have.
- 8:52Speaker 9: Maybe he would have you know, he had one playoff
- 8:54Speaker 9: run in Tennessee with Ryan Tannehill. Yeah, in twenty nineteen,
- 8:58Speaker 9: they had.
- 8:58Speaker 5: Played as well as anybody in the league when they
- 9:01Speaker 5: were that good. Really the year that they went to
- 9:04Speaker 5: the AC Championship game, go back and look at his numbers,
- 9:07Speaker 5: You had like a one to twenty one passer rating.
- 9:09Speaker 4: For the season. Yeah, he was very good, pretty good.
- 9:12Speaker 5: A lot of that was it because credit for Yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 5: there's no question. Yeah. That's another part of it that
- 9:18Speaker 5: people also ignore is how stacked they were with aj
- 9:20Speaker 5: Brown and Derrek Henry on the offense, right, none of
- 9:24Speaker 5: which are here, But he also had two really good
- 9:29Speaker 5: offensive coordinators. Everybody just looks and says, well, yeah, then
- 9:33Speaker 5: when Tannehill sort of, you know, he got a little
- 9:35Speaker 5: older and he slowed down, then he had Malik Willis
- 9:38Speaker 5: and will Levis and they Yeah, but he also didn't
- 9:42Speaker 5: have Arthur Smith anymore, and Lafleur, who was before Arthur Smith.
- 9:47Speaker 4: I think, yep, right, yeah, so coordinators.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Yeah, they had two really good offensive coordinators coaching jobs
- 9:54Speaker 5: and they and they were able to get a lot
- 9:56Speaker 5: out of Tannehill. I have no illusions about Ryan Tannehill.
- 9:58Speaker 5: He's not that level of quarterback. They made him look
- 10:01Speaker 5: that good kind of, you know, similar to like Tua
- 10:06Speaker 5: with Mike McDaniel. You know, I don't think Tua is
- 10:09Speaker 5: one of the best quarterbacks in football, but his numbers
- 10:11Speaker 5: would suggest that he is just like Tannehill, that year,
- 10:15Speaker 5: So that would be my concern. You know, can he
- 10:20Speaker 5: find you know, is is it Josh McDaniels, Is he
- 10:23Speaker 5: the offensive coordinator? Is it Tommy who a lot of
- 10:26Speaker 5: people say that he's tight with from Cleveland. I don't
- 10:29Speaker 5: know who that guy is, but will that guy get
- 10:32Speaker 5: the most out of Drake May?
- 10:33Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:33Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, I just worry if it's Rabel McDaniels,
- 10:37Speaker 9: which seems like a popular ticket right now. That's that's
- 10:40Speaker 9: the sounds of it. It's old school, like it's two
- 10:43Speaker 9: guys that are gonna sort of run the systems that
- 10:45Speaker 9: they've been running for twenty years.
- 10:47Speaker 4: And but you said, how do you know that? How
- 10:49Speaker 4: do you know that they don't adapt? You know that
- 10:51Speaker 4: Josh McDaniel hasn't been paying attention to, you know, the
- 10:55Speaker 4: modern offense in NFL and can't adapt.
- 10:57Speaker 9: Allowed to happen. I got to see it to believe it.
- 11:00Speaker 9: I mean, he's did what he did last year with
- 11:03Speaker 9: the Raiders, like it it was just last year. So
- 11:05Speaker 9: like I guess like he could have adapted. Sure, I
- 11:08Speaker 9: guess I'll allow for that. I just I don't imagine
- 11:11Speaker 9: that it will adapt significantly. Like, I don't think that
- 11:14Speaker 9: they're all of a sudden going to come out with
- 11:16Speaker 9: like a Cliff Kingsbury offense with Josh McDaniels as their
- 11:18Speaker 9: offensive coordinator. So you just look at those two, that pairing,
- 11:22Speaker 9: and just in general with Rabel, Yeah, I think he
- 11:25Speaker 9: would be a really good coach. Do I do? I
- 11:27Speaker 9: know that he's a home run head coach higher I
- 11:30Speaker 9: don't know Ben Johnson, I have no idea what he is.
- 11:34Speaker 9: He's kind of a mystery box. But if it hits,
- 11:38Speaker 9: he's going to be the next Shanahan, the next McVeigh.
- 11:41Speaker 9: You know, he's going to be on that level, right,
- 11:43Speaker 9: and they're going to have a real I'm.
- 11:45Speaker 5: A little with Mike because because I like Mike Rabels
- 11:47Speaker 5: so much, I'm trying to sort of stay impartial, trying
- 11:51Speaker 5: to like make it level for everybody.
- 11:54Speaker 4: So I was, I.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Mean, I think Mike Rabel is a really good coach,
- 11:58Speaker 5: and I like him a lot.
- 12:00Speaker 4: So it's just.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Like, and I know, I went on, I ran about
- 12:05Speaker 6: why do we have to change everything? But there's also
- 12:08Speaker 6: just something appealing about let's get a fresh of breath hairing,
- 12:10Speaker 6: you know, a bresh of breath, of a brush of
- 12:13Speaker 6: fresh a breath of fresh air, and you know in
- 12:17Speaker 6: the in the in the team, and I mean as
- 12:19Speaker 6: much as Girard was new, it was you know, still
- 12:21Speaker 6: a lot of the same carry over the defensive side
- 12:23Speaker 6: of the ball. You feel like Ben Johnson comes in,
- 12:25Speaker 6: it's not going to be some Patriots retreads coming back.
- 12:29Speaker 6: One more point I just make though, and we've talked
- 12:30Speaker 6: about this with Josh, is that we talked about it
- 12:32Speaker 6: all summer about a VP making the center, makes the
- 12:35Speaker 6: line calls. I mean, Josh puts so much on the quarterback.
- 12:38Speaker 6: So you know, for better or worse, that's Drake May's
- 12:41Speaker 6: year two is you're gonna put him in school with
- 12:42Speaker 6: Josh McDaniels. I mean, it worked pretty well with Mac
- 12:45Speaker 6: Jones out of the gate. You know, maybe it can work,
- 12:47Speaker 6: but I just think that's a significant transition that you're
- 12:50Speaker 6: gonna put Drake.
- 12:50Speaker 5: So you had a question, you know at the start,
- 12:53Speaker 5: I can't let that go. Go go ahead ahead, no,
- 12:55Speaker 5: go ahead, No, I.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Can't let that go when you say it works so
- 12:58Speaker 4: well with Jo With Mac Jones out of the gate,
- 13:01Speaker 4: they freaking coddled him. He didn't throw into the end
- 13:04Speaker 4: zone until like week six or seven. Like I don't
- 13:08Speaker 4: want that. It h I don't want that. That's to me,
- 13:10Speaker 4: that's not working.
- 13:11Speaker 7: But they went to the playoffs.
- 13:12Speaker 4: I mean they did go to the pay.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Because of your because I think your offense was very
- 13:19Speaker 5: good and certainly in the second half of the season,
- 13:21Speaker 5: your offense was flat out Yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 4: If that's if that's working well, then I'm not at
- 13:25Speaker 4: but don't care.
- 13:27Speaker 7: Even won eight games the last two years. I mean
- 13:29Speaker 7: that season was terribly just as terrible.
- 13:31Speaker 4: I hear you. But they didn't do it because of
- 13:33Speaker 4: quarterback play that first year. But I think Josh proved
- 13:37Speaker 4: that they did it because he didn't make it.
- 13:38Speaker 6: It would be better without better than.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Mac Jones, I do so maybe he'd be better with that, not.
- 13:46Speaker 4: That, not with that type of style, not what they
- 13:48Speaker 4: did that first Why does it have.
- 13:50Speaker 5: To be the same style. But maybe they did that.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Because that's if he's going to point to that style
- 13:55Speaker 4: is it worked pretty well? And I'm not on board.
- 13:58Speaker 4: I'm not on board now as Fred is seeing my
- 14:03Speaker 4: side of the street here like where I.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Was Mike and Fred's first start, it was and.
- 14:07Speaker 9: It was beautiful. I saw some real growth over there.
- 14:12Speaker 9: That was great. If you're going to bring Josh McDaniels back.
- 14:15Speaker 9: I know we're getting way ahead of ourselves, but if
- 14:17Speaker 9: it's rable with Josh McDaniels, then you're talking about two back,
- 14:22Speaker 9: bring the full, bring Yaka Johnson back.
- 14:24Speaker 4: I'm on board that that are you know we're.
- 14:26Speaker 9: Going to be under center. Yeah, like we're just that.
- 14:32Speaker 9: That's what I'm worried about. I don't want to go
- 14:35Speaker 9: in that direction. You have a quarterback in Drake May
- 14:38Speaker 9: who can put, you know, the game on his shoulders,
- 14:41Speaker 9: who has the talent to be better than that, to
- 14:43Speaker 9: be better than coddled mac Jones's rookie season. They shouldn't
- 14:47Speaker 9: be that, So I'm I'm willing to allow them to
- 14:51Speaker 9: surprise me. I just I worry about that with Frabel.
- 14:54Speaker 9: I don't want to win game seventeen to fourteen.
- 14:56Speaker 5: Like you had your first your first question that you
- 14:58Speaker 5: asked us is what would our preference be, like, you know,
- 15:01Speaker 5: sort of the experience coach with with gravitas of you know,
- 15:05Speaker 5: having some success as a head coach, or you know,
- 15:08Speaker 5: the new guy first year, And my preference would be
- 15:14Speaker 5: kind of the new guy, because I think the best
- 15:16Speaker 5: coaches in the league right now are first year of coaches,
- 15:19Speaker 5: but first time.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Coaches yep, but with an offensive background.
- 15:23Speaker 5: But I need but yes, But I also before I,
- 15:27Speaker 5: I don't want to just blindly say, well, Ben Johnson
- 15:29Speaker 5: is the answer to that question, because I don't know
- 15:31Speaker 5: what Ben Johnson wants to do. I don't know who
- 15:33Speaker 5: he wants to bring. I would like to compare Mike
- 15:37Speaker 5: Rabel with let's just say, for argument's sake, Josh McDaniels
- 15:43Speaker 5: and Patrick Graham. It's just another random defensive coordinator who's available,
- 15:48Speaker 5: you know, Robert Salah, you know, as opposed to Ben
- 15:52Speaker 5: Johnson and guys I don't have no idea who they
- 15:55Speaker 5: are because that's all he has. Right then, maybe I
- 15:58Speaker 5: would lean to Rabel with the experience, and you know,
- 16:01Speaker 5: I think he'll like to Evans point, I think that
- 16:03Speaker 5: that floor kind of rises a little bit. Maybe the
- 16:06Speaker 5: ceiling's not quite as high. But if I could get
- 16:09Speaker 5: Ben Johnson, and Ben Johnson has this clear plan, like
- 16:13Speaker 5: you know, this is not something I've taken lightly. I've
- 16:16Speaker 5: been thinking about being a head coach for the last
- 16:18Speaker 5: three years, and I have the makings of what I
- 16:22Speaker 5: have thought of being my staff. And this guy's going
- 16:24Speaker 5: to run my office mentioned this guy, you know, maybe
- 16:26Speaker 5: a little bit of an experienced guy that we don't
- 16:28Speaker 5: know what connection between Ben Johnson and a defensive coordinator,
- 16:32Speaker 5: then I would rather have that.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Yeah. A lot of people have done unknown Yeah, a
- 16:36Speaker 4: lot of people have done the pieces on you know,
- 16:39Speaker 4: records of first time head coaches, you know, but has
- 16:42Speaker 4: anyone done a piece on second time around coaches and
- 16:47Speaker 4: whether or not they improved or how they improved the
- 16:50Speaker 4: second time around?
- 16:51Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 16:52Speaker 9: Probably, I don't know.
- 16:53Speaker 6: I mean, I guess Andy read would Ptty be a
- 16:54Speaker 6: pretty good one, right, Andy Reid and Bill Belichick?
- 16:56Speaker 4: Yeah, Belichick, Pete Carroll, Pete.
- 16:59Speaker 5: Carroll, not his second time, his third time, well.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Third time, but like he improved. In other words, like
- 17:05Speaker 4: the more you do it, the more you you know,
- 17:08Speaker 4: if you're going to be a good coach, you do learn.
- 17:10Speaker 4: And you know, it's sort of like with the quarterbacks,
- 17:14Speaker 4: ruining a quarterback, well, no, if he's going to be good,
- 17:17Speaker 4: like he'll eventually be good. And maybe it's the same
- 17:20Speaker 4: thing with these coaches. Given the opportunity, if they're if
- 17:24Speaker 4: they're really good coaches, if they're given the opportunity, they
- 17:27Speaker 4: will grow into being a good coach, and it's like what.
- 17:30Speaker 7: They thought was your odds?
- 17:31Speaker 5: Maybe yeah, maybe maybe I just looked like, can you
- 17:37Speaker 5: I'm just going to do this exercise with you? We
- 17:39Speaker 5: would We were joking around Mike and Evan and I.
- 17:43Speaker 5: Off the top of your head. Don't there's no right
- 17:45Speaker 5: or wrong answers, and don't give it a whole lot
- 17:47Speaker 5: of thought. But give me, like your five or so,
- 17:51Speaker 5: what you think are the best coaches in the league
- 17:53Speaker 5: right now, right now? So Andy Reid, Andy redou would
- 17:57Speaker 5: be the one that.
- 17:57Speaker 4: I think you would start with, you know McVeigh. Okay,
- 18:02Speaker 4: I would say, uh, well, you know it's you gotta
- 18:05Speaker 4: throw dan Quinn in there. But I mean, I don't.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Know like dan Quinn.
- 18:09Speaker 4: I mean Dan Campbell, Dan Campbell. Okay, no, but who's
- 18:12Speaker 4: the current coach of the Commanders dan Quinn? Dan Quinn.
- 18:15Speaker 5: Certain they wouldn't put him on the list, but well.
- 18:17Speaker 4: No, but he's your list. But said, there's no right
- 18:20Speaker 4: or wrong.
- 18:21Speaker 5: I said, I just said, I broke my own. Guy
- 18:24Speaker 5: who broke my.
- 18:25Speaker 4: He's done it before and maybe he's learned.
- 18:27Speaker 5: You intentionally did that. But that's okay, you know, maybe
- 18:29Speaker 5: little intellectual dishonesty there because I think that most people
- 18:31Speaker 5: would like rattle off Andy Reid, Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan,
- 18:36Speaker 5: Kevin O'Connell, Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I think those were they finished yet.
- 18:41Speaker 5: I think those would be the guys that would most
- 18:43Speaker 5: come to mind. But long before Dan Quinn and all that,
- 18:47Speaker 5: and all those guys other than Andy Reid, a first
- 18:49Speaker 5: time head coach.
- 18:49Speaker 4: No, but I was also thinking about guys who have
- 18:51Speaker 4: done it before and now had another opportunity.
- 18:54Speaker 5: Dan Quinn is a guy. That's why I said, I
- 18:56Speaker 5: thought you would be in a little intellectually, so I
- 18:57Speaker 5: think I was thinking of a guy.
- 18:59Speaker 4: I was thinking of the guy the commanders. You know.
- 19:02Speaker 4: You said Dan Campbell, and I said, yeah, that he
- 19:04Speaker 4: would be in the list too. But all those guys
- 19:05Speaker 4: you listed are the good coaches in the NFL.
- 19:09Speaker 9: Is hard.
- 19:10Speaker 5: I think people would just hell bent on can't be
- 19:12Speaker 5: another first time It's.
- 19:13Speaker 9: Such a disingenuous argument because the first time head coach
- 19:17Speaker 9: they just hired was not ready or experienced.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Enough to take It's not a fair comparison.
- 19:21Speaker 9: You know, Ben Johnson has been running an offense for
- 19:24Speaker 9: multiple years and has known that he is on this
- 19:26Speaker 9: track for three cycles now, so like he's been planning.
- 19:30Speaker 4: And I like the fact that he didn't jump last
- 19:33Speaker 4: year when he could have.
- 19:34Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean he left Washington kind of at the altar.
- 19:37Speaker 9: It was that was very very close to being done
- 19:40Speaker 9: in Washington, but yeah, he went back.
- 19:44Speaker 5: There's news about him. By the way, Ben Johnson is
- 19:47Speaker 5: going to be intervening with Jacksonville.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Jacksonville speaking of news on him one of your shows
- 19:53Speaker 4: this morning. Uh, they were saying that he the word is,
- 19:57Speaker 4: he's kind of bizarre, like he kind of had.
- 20:00Speaker 5: I've never I don't think I've ever seen the guy talk.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Yeah, like he has. He interviews weirdly, you know, like
- 20:07Speaker 4: he's a different he's kind of.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Strange, like Mike McDaniel.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, probably, I don't know. I don't know what
- 20:14Speaker 4: I didn't know.
- 20:14Speaker 5: I don't know. I've never seen him.
- 20:16Speaker 4: They didn't go to anyone.
- 20:20Speaker 5: He's a quirky guy.
- 20:21Speaker 9: I don't think that that's necessarily accurate. But he he
- 20:26Speaker 9: loves ball like he's he's a junkie, Like he's not.
- 20:30Speaker 9: I wouldn't say he's mister personality like I I don't.
- 20:33Speaker 9: He doesn't come across to me. I watch a lot
- 20:35Speaker 9: of his his in the press conferences just because I
- 20:38Speaker 9: like the guy and he doesn't come across as super
- 20:41Speaker 9: personable or or you know, fun, to be honest with you,
- 20:45Speaker 9: like he's as serious ball nowhere as we like to
- 20:49Speaker 9: call him. You know, he's in the factory all the time,
- 20:53Speaker 9: like he's not. He's I think that he instills a
- 21:00Speaker 9: lot of confidence in his players. I don't know if
- 21:04Speaker 9: he's necessarily going to get to the front of the
- 21:06Speaker 9: room and be the raw ra guy that gets the
- 21:08Speaker 9: troops going.
- 21:09Speaker 5: That's the head coach's job there.
- 21:11Speaker 9: But I think he puts players in such a position
- 21:15Speaker 9: to succeed that they have a lot of confidence that
- 21:19Speaker 9: their plans, their their you know, playbook, everything is going
- 21:23Speaker 9: to be top, top notch, and so you're going to
- 21:25Speaker 9: get good results.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Well, it's this is going to be fascinating. Where does
- 21:31Speaker 4: Rabel end up, Where does Ben Johnson end up? Who
- 21:34Speaker 4: the Patriots end up with?
- 21:35Speaker 5: And there's gonna be other guys that we're going to
- 21:37Speaker 5: find out that they're going to interview too. Yeah, but
- 21:39Speaker 5: those are the only two that we know of right now. Yeah,
- 21:41Speaker 5: but there's definitely going to be more guys that.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Are well, there has to be, but there will be anyway.
- 21:46Speaker 9: Yeah, Yeah, there's a couple of other names that I
- 21:48Speaker 9: think will definitely be of interest. You know, Joe Brady
- 21:51Speaker 9: with Buffalo is maybe a year or two soon. France. Yeah,
- 21:55Speaker 9: he's already getting some buzz and he's one of the
- 21:58Speaker 9: best play designers on the offensive side of the ball
- 22:00Speaker 9: in the league. So another one of these offensive whiz
- 22:02Speaker 9: kids that's going to be a head coach. And I
- 22:05Speaker 9: would just throw out because Elliot Wolf's involvement currently in
- 22:08Speaker 9: this process. Adam Stenovich with Green Bay is their offensive
- 22:12Speaker 9: coordinator under the floor. He is their run game coordinator.
- 22:16Speaker 9: He's responsible for all their running schemes and all things
- 22:19Speaker 9: like that, coordinatefense. And so he's obviously got tied to
- 22:25Speaker 9: the Packers in the Green Bay Way and all that
- 22:27Speaker 9: kind of stuff. And he has been stamped sealed by
- 22:31Speaker 9: Lafloor multiple times saying that this guy is ready to
- 22:35Speaker 9: be He's the game coordinator, he's the offensive coordinator, but
- 22:39Speaker 9: he designs their entire.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Charactercause I was wondering, like if he was just run coordinator,
- 22:43Speaker 4: if bringing if A could hire him as an OC promotion.
- 22:48Speaker 9: I thought of that and unfortunately no. And I think
- 22:52Speaker 9: one thing about the league rules when it comes to that,
- 22:54Speaker 9: just quickly, if you're not the play caller, I feel
- 22:58Speaker 9: like that should be a designation on the job because
- 23:00Speaker 9: you know, you can't make the lateral movements really hard, right,
- 23:03Speaker 9: But if you're not the play caller, that's a big thing.
- 23:06Speaker 9: And so if you're going to be Adam Stenovich and
- 23:09Speaker 9: you want to get out underneath la Floor's shadow and
- 23:11Speaker 9: go call play someplace to help your resume, you should
- 23:14Speaker 9: be able to do that without having to.
- 23:16Speaker 5: Get That should be considered a promotion.
- 23:18Speaker 9: Correct.
- 23:19Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's not to your point yesterday, like you're
- 23:22Speaker 5: an offensive coordinator in name only, right, You're not calling
- 23:24Speaker 5: the place, right?
- 23:26Speaker 6: Do you guys think that the architect based.
- 23:29Speaker 5: On neither was Lafleur. But I'm not gonna argue with
- 23:31Speaker 5: you anymore.
- 23:32Speaker 4: About he's not the architect of the offense.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Of that offense.
- 23:35Speaker 9: No, they your offense, well it's the Shanahan Tree offense.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Sure, okay, but within that ye team.
- 23:44Speaker 9: But their run the play calls, yeah, and their run
- 23:47Speaker 9: game is fantastic and apparently, according to lafort end Of
- 23:50Speaker 9: it used to play offensive line in the NFL. So
- 23:53Speaker 9: according to la Floor, it's all him. I don't know
- 23:55Speaker 9: if that's just him trying to gast him up.
- 23:57Speaker 5: What do you think of non skilled position guys as
- 23:59Speaker 5: offensive coordinators? I'm against it. I don't want TJ running
- 24:04Speaker 5: my offense. I'm sorry.
- 24:05Speaker 10: Uh.
- 24:06Speaker 6: One thing I thought was interesting from that field thing
- 24:08Speaker 6: that was the Elliott Wolf report that you know, would
- 24:10Speaker 6: be kind of open to like Wolf maybe moving around
- 24:12Speaker 6: a little bit. And I just wondered, you know, do
- 24:14Speaker 6: you think that there's a possibility that a GM might come?
- 24:17Speaker 6: And I mean, is that does that not exist?
- 24:19Speaker 5: Does that's a strong.
- 24:20Speaker 6: Like an executive vice president of player personnel can exist
- 24:23Speaker 6: with a GM above him? Like is that an easy
- 24:25Speaker 6: kind of swap in or is that?
- 24:27Speaker 4: I think anything's possible, but it's going to be it's
- 24:29Speaker 4: going to be up to the new new coach.
- 24:32Speaker 5: I agree with Fred.
- 24:33Speaker 6: That's why I thought the Phil report was that was
- 24:35Speaker 6: the biggest question we had coming out of Roberts press
- 24:37Speaker 6: conference yesterday, and then immediately to come out and be like, no, no,
- 24:40Speaker 6: it's you know, it's going to be the head coach is
- 24:42Speaker 6: going to have a big input into how the front
- 24:44Speaker 6: office is structured. I think that, you know, calm some
- 24:46Speaker 6: of the masses that were up in arms a little
- 24:48Speaker 6: bit about Yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 4: I mean we've always had that discussion, not just us,
- 24:51Speaker 4: but everybody, like should it be the GM hiring the
- 24:54Speaker 4: coach or the coach having to say over the GM,
- 24:58Speaker 4: you know, like who's more important? I think most of
- 25:01Speaker 4: the time it comes down to the coach, Like very
- 25:04Speaker 4: rarely you have a GM who is so strong that,
- 25:09Speaker 4: like you would say, we got to have this GM
- 25:12Speaker 4: no matter who our coach is.
- 25:14Speaker 5: I think that And it's funny like that, Yeah, because
- 25:17Speaker 5: there's no way to doing it Around the league, there's
- 25:19Speaker 5: different structures. I mean, there's been a lot the last
- 25:22Speaker 5: twenty four hours about Trent Balke and how somehow he
- 25:25Speaker 5: keeps surviving. Yeah, you know, the coaches keep going. This
- 25:28Speaker 5: is two different places now San Francisco in Jacksonville. Yeah,
- 25:31Speaker 5: the coaches go and he finds a way to stay.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 5: I think that's kind of rare.
- 25:35Speaker 9: Yeah, I just wonder, and I don't think that Ben
- 25:38Speaker 9: Johnson would fit this category. But if it is frable,
- 25:41Speaker 9: do you give Rabel power over the roster and not
- 25:45Speaker 9: necessarily full personnel power, Like you're still going to have
- 25:49Speaker 9: an Elliott Wolf figure that's technically putting the board, the
- 25:52Speaker 9: draft board together and doing all the scouting and all
- 25:55Speaker 9: that kind of stuff. But you know, this is this
- 25:57Speaker 9: setup in a lot of places. You know, Kyle Shanahan,
- 25:59Speaker 9: Andy Reid, Pete Carroll was Seattle before he got you know,
- 26:03Speaker 9: fired there, Like those guys technically have control the fifty
- 26:07Speaker 9: three man roster. And maybe that's what the Patriots would
- 26:10Speaker 9: do with Rabel and give him a personnel guy to
- 26:12Speaker 9: kind of do the legwork so.
- 26:14Speaker 5: That yeah, you know, at the time of the higher
- 26:17Speaker 5: but that's how I would want to set it up.
- 26:18Speaker 4: If you don't want to give if you were the coach.
- 26:20Speaker 5: Yeah, well, if I were an organization, if I were Belichick,
- 26:23Speaker 5: like I understand, maybe you don't want the Elichick model
- 26:25Speaker 5: where there's one almighty voice like above everybody no matter what. Okay,
- 26:31Speaker 5: you don't want to have one guy with all the power.
- 26:34Speaker 5: That's the way to me to split the baby, you know,
- 26:38Speaker 5: as you guys do when you're making your picks every
- 26:40Speaker 5: every Thursday. Like, have a guy who's in charge of
- 26:43Speaker 5: the draft and he's he's running the draft and he's
- 26:46Speaker 5: you know, negotiating with free agents and whatnot. He's acquiring
- 26:50Speaker 5: the talent. But you got to let your coach coach
- 26:53Speaker 5: the players, and you got to let your coach decide
- 26:55Speaker 5: who's on the team and who's not.
- 26:56Speaker 4: And I think I think there has to be somebody
- 26:58Speaker 4: that has final say, but I think almost kind of
- 27:02Speaker 4: it was better back in the day here when Pioli
- 27:05Speaker 4: was here, because Pioli was a strong voice, and obviously
- 27:09Speaker 4: Bill had final say, but I think there were times
- 27:12Speaker 4: where Pioli would emphatically make his case and be able
- 27:16Speaker 4: to sway Bill, and like they said, sometimes we just
- 27:20Speaker 4: decided we're going to table this and move on because
- 27:23Speaker 4: Pioli just wouldn't give in. And so I think it's important,
- 27:27Speaker 4: whoever the head coach is, to have a guy in
- 27:29Speaker 4: personnel that he trusts, whose opinion he values, so they
- 27:33Speaker 4: can have these arguments.
- 27:34Speaker 5: Yeah, which is why I think it's important that what
- 27:38Speaker 5: Robert said yesterday I think is important. I hope, and
- 27:41Speaker 5: that I hope that is the plan. You know what
- 27:43Speaker 5: the head coach wants. Yeah, he will have input on
- 27:47Speaker 5: on that. Yeah, that's you know, that's the best.
- 27:49Speaker 4: Way to do it. These guys, believe me, in every
- 27:52Speaker 4: team they have arguments, not down drag out arguments. But
- 27:57Speaker 4: as long as everybody's respectful, they value each other's opinion
- 28:02Speaker 4: and there's trust, you can have those arguments and then
- 28:05Speaker 4: move on.
- 28:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 6: You know, it's like Lincoln's cabinet, you know, team of rivals.
- 28:09Speaker 6: He hired a lot of people that went ran against him.
- 28:11Speaker 6: He wanted people with opposing viewpoints to you know, make sure.
- 28:14Speaker 6: I mean that's something we obviously now that you god,
- 28:17Speaker 6: I know, sorry, I'm reading a civil war book right now.
- 28:21Speaker 9: He's really big into like eighteen hundred.
- 28:23Speaker 5: I went to university, guy, can you just lower the
- 28:26Speaker 5: intellect a little bit?
- 28:27Speaker 6: Sorry, I couldn't help. I couldn't help, but it but
- 28:29Speaker 6: it did remind me of that, And I mean, I
- 28:30Speaker 6: think that's you know, good organizational management. You want people
- 28:33Speaker 6: with different point of view, somebody you know, who's going
- 28:35Speaker 6: to push back against you. I think it was one
- 28:36Speaker 6: of the things we talked about with Bill. And you know, when,
- 28:39Speaker 6: like you said, Fred, when Pioli, guys like Poli left,
- 28:42Speaker 6: when you know, probably even into the coaching when Scarneckia left,
- 28:45Speaker 6: and you know, there just wasn't strong personalities to come
- 28:48Speaker 6: up with ideas to push back by all this kind of.
- 28:50Speaker 5: Thing, because I do think with Poli there was there
- 28:53Speaker 5: was the ultimate amount of pushback, and I think Cassario
- 28:58Speaker 5: pushed back to not to the extent that Pioli did,
- 29:00Speaker 5: and it gradually got you know, as each guy was
- 29:03Speaker 5: in that job and left, I think there was less
- 29:05Speaker 5: and less pushback.
- 29:07Speaker 4: And you know, Belichick was asked a couple times a
- 29:09Speaker 4: few times about it, do you have enough people around
- 29:12Speaker 4: you that pushed back? And each time he would pause,
- 29:16Speaker 4: you know, I may not. I think I remember him
- 29:19Speaker 4: saying once, well, that was a.
- 29:20Speaker 6: Big part of the Halberstam book too, is I mean
- 29:22Speaker 6: he really made a point to highlight that, and early
- 29:24Speaker 6: I mean that was you know, written about one to
- 29:26Speaker 6: literary I just got two to David Howards down right,
- 29:29Speaker 6: I know, but that was that was one of my
- 29:32Speaker 6: key takeaways from that That whole book was you know,
- 29:34Speaker 6: because there's so much and I think, you know, we
- 29:36Speaker 6: can probably get into more of a discussion as Belichick
- 29:40Speaker 6: went on, if it became more of just him driving
- 29:42Speaker 6: the bus, But at least in those early years, what
- 29:44Speaker 6: they were looking to highlight were I mean, look, Charlie Romeo,
- 29:48Speaker 6: I mean, just all the experience Brad Seely. I mean,
- 29:51Speaker 6: all those guys were experienced coaches and I and I
- 29:53Speaker 6: also just it makes me think back to when we
- 29:55Speaker 6: were just talking, you know about about the Lions guy,
- 29:59Speaker 6: she's Ben Tim Johnson, that when you get these new coaches,
- 30:02Speaker 6: they're gonna put some new coaches into positions that they
- 30:05Speaker 6: might not be ready.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Like, it's not to me as easy. Do you want
- 30:09Speaker 5: Ben Johnson or do you want Mike Rabel? Right, And
- 30:12Speaker 5: it's the same thing when Bill came, just those two,
- 30:15Speaker 5: I probably would choose Ben Johnson. But if it's if
- 30:19Speaker 5: it's Mike Rabel and his pro program, right, you're gonna
- 30:22Speaker 5: get Likelick coming in in two thousand and two thousand
- 30:25Speaker 5: and one, where he's got a lot of established coaches.
- 30:27Speaker 6: Joining the staff, experienced guys, keeping guys around like you know,
- 30:30Speaker 6: Scarnecki and stuff. So it's just interesting two different paths
- 30:33Speaker 6: that they could kind of choose to go. I think
- 30:35Speaker 6: they're going to go Rabel.
- 30:36Speaker 7: That that settles.
- 30:37Speaker 5: Like just looking at my shows right now, they're showing
- 30:40Speaker 5: like a little collage of Raabel clips, I just I'm
- 30:43Speaker 5: already envisioning him just sort of going to battle with
- 30:47Speaker 5: us in the press conferences.
- 30:48Speaker 7: I can't wait.
- 30:50Speaker 5: It's going to be so like those are the first
- 30:52Speaker 5: time to get snapped out.
- 30:53Speaker 7: I mean it might even be Ben Johnson too. Like
- 30:54Speaker 7: Ben Johnson, I might have no time for any of
- 30:57Speaker 7: the like.
- 30:57Speaker 5: Could be with him too. I don't I don't think
- 31:00Speaker 5: I've ever seen Ben Johnson stop. He just gave me laugh.
- 31:09Speaker 9: There's no doubt that, you know. David Andrews was talking
- 31:13Speaker 9: at his locker yesterday and said someone asked him what
- 31:16Speaker 9: needs to change around here, and he said, we need
- 31:20Speaker 9: to reinstill the winning culture. You know that we've lost
- 31:23Speaker 9: the winning culture. And then so there's some kind of asking.
- 31:25Speaker 4: You know how you do that? You win?
- 31:27Speaker 5: Yeah, same way to get fast players.
- 31:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 9: But I think the important thing that he that he
- 31:32Speaker 9: did point out was that he said a lot of
- 31:35Speaker 9: the guys on the team now haven't won at a
- 31:39Speaker 9: very high level like he did, or like you know,
- 31:42Speaker 9: some of the older veterans have, so a lot of
- 31:44Speaker 9: those guys have never experienced. I know, it's not a
- 31:48Speaker 9: good thing, right, And so you know, with Rabel, I
- 31:51Speaker 9: do think you get that immediately or this is a
- 31:53Speaker 9: coach that has succeeded as a coach as a player,
- 31:57Speaker 9: and you just sort of bring up.
- 31:58Speaker 4: A good point because you know, when talking about free agency,
- 32:01Speaker 4: obviously our minds go to who will be the star
- 32:04Speaker 4: free agents, who are the impact players you can bring in?
- 32:07Speaker 4: But I think just as importantly is bringing in some
- 32:09Speaker 4: guys at a lower level, but maybe who have won, Yeah,
- 32:13Speaker 4: so they can come in there with that type of
- 32:16Speaker 4: background and you know, talk to the younger guys like, oh,
- 32:20Speaker 4: I've won. You haven't listen to what I'm telling you.
- 32:24Speaker 5: And those are hard to are hard to get, yeah,
- 32:26Speaker 5: because obviously if there's a guy with it, you know,
- 32:29Speaker 5: maybe maybe a guy who's not going to break the
- 32:31Speaker 5: bank in free agency, a lot of teams would be
- 32:33Speaker 5: interested in him and they and they're all looking for
- 32:35Speaker 5: culture guys, So what is what do you have that's
- 32:39Speaker 5: making you stand out?
- 32:40Speaker 6: Rabel to me seems like the ultimate football guy respect
- 32:44Speaker 6: like a lot of the players that played under Taylor
- 32:46Speaker 6: Luwan being one, like you. You see how he interacts
- 32:48Speaker 6: with players, and like I know Mayo played too, but
- 32:51Speaker 6: like there's something about Rabel and edge that he has
- 32:54Speaker 6: and also kind of the size he has that I
- 32:56Speaker 6: think just instantly earns the respect to those guys and
- 32:58Speaker 6: I think they all love that he's a ball buster.
- 33:00Speaker 6: They know that he can talk to talk and and
- 33:02Speaker 6: you know, have some fun with them too, and you know,
- 33:04Speaker 6: in a cutting way.
- 33:05Speaker 4: There's a a clip on YouTube, I believe, and it's
- 33:09Speaker 4: from the Titans, and it's one of their team meetings.
- 33:12Speaker 4: One of the players was was really good at impressions,
- 33:16Speaker 4: and he did an impression of Rabel. Rabel's in the
- 33:18Speaker 4: room and just busting and it was so funny. I
- 33:22Speaker 4: would advise anyone to Yeah, Rabel was cracking up too,
- 33:26Speaker 4: but he had Rabel down perfectly, and all the players
- 33:30Speaker 4: were just falling.
- 33:31Speaker 5: And he put on the pads and your total heart.
- 33:37Speaker 5: You know, I love, I love, love love.
- 33:40Speaker 4: I gotta find that again.
- 33:41Speaker 7: I want to see. We gotta find it. We can
- 33:43Speaker 7: find it.
- 33:43Speaker 4: It's it's from the Titans. You know, look up like
- 33:47Speaker 4: Titans player, you know, uh, impression of Mike Rabel. It's
- 33:52Speaker 4: hysterical and it's spot on. You know. So the players
- 33:56Speaker 4: there like they knew he was a ball buster, and
- 33:59Speaker 4: they give it and.
- 34:00Speaker 7: Take it, and you know that's how they how they operate.
- 34:03Speaker 7: And I just I think he brings you.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:06Speaker 5: Yeah, not a lot of people got away with that him. Yeah,
- 34:11Speaker 5: he was another one.
- 34:12Speaker 4: I'm gonna do it.
- 34:12Speaker 7: I wanna bring up a third book. I read the
- 34:14Speaker 7: Brusky book, and I mean Bruskey didn't like him like
- 34:17Speaker 7: Brusk talking about this one that was a real book.
- 34:21Speaker 4: Now this one.
- 34:21Speaker 5: I actually read this one, I actually, but he didn't
- 34:24Speaker 5: like verb.
- 34:24Speaker 7: They didn't really along.
- 34:25Speaker 5: They got along.
- 34:26Speaker 4: Will made fun of Bruski after he had a stroke, so.
- 34:28Speaker 5: That was the falling out. They got along tremendously well.
- 34:31Speaker 5: And then Rabel there was nothing. That's a perfect example.
- 34:35Speaker 5: There was nothing off limits. Teddy had his stroke and
- 34:38Speaker 5: Rabel used to make fun of him for having a
- 34:40Speaker 5: stroke and didn't you know careful And that caused a
- 34:47Speaker 5: big rift in their relationship for a while. I think
- 34:50Speaker 5: it's since been imagine that.
- 34:52Speaker 1: I found the video for it, but it's got a
- 34:53Speaker 1: lot of f bums and you want to play.
- 34:54Speaker 5: Oh yeah, we can't do that, Okay, I mean you don't.
- 34:57Speaker 5: We can't do that everywhere.
- 34:59Speaker 4: I guess not.
- 35:04Speaker 5: I'm saving you from yourself.
- 35:05Speaker 4: Okay. I was gonna say we could tell everyone ear muffs,
- 35:08Speaker 4: and then all right, we won't. We won't do that,
- 35:11Speaker 4: but maybe we'll put the link in the newsletter for Alex.
- 35:15Speaker 5: Oh yeah, my god, you can't just find drop bombs us.
- 35:23Speaker 4: We could do, I know we can. It's really fun.
- 35:26Speaker 4: It's too bad. But if you do want to get
- 35:28Speaker 4: that newsletter, go to Patriots dot com slash pu Newsletter,
- 35:32Speaker 4: sign up for it. You'll get the link. So there
- 35:35Speaker 4: you go.
- 35:36Speaker 5: It's like, I'm gonna look at that.
- 35:39Speaker 7: Yeah, it's hystericy too.
- 35:42Speaker 4: You brought up David Andrews. Sounds like a guy who's
- 35:45Speaker 4: coming back next year.
- 35:46Speaker 9: Yeah, he said he wants to play through twenty twenty seven.
- 35:48Speaker 5: He said he's planning on coming until they take his
- 35:50Speaker 5: key card.
- 35:51Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, Well that's that's good because he's a guy
- 35:54Speaker 4: who kind of thought about retiring, wasn't he.
- 35:58Speaker 9: The injury, Yeah, made him think about it, I think.
- 36:02Speaker 9: But we'll see.
- 36:03Speaker 6: It's pretty optimistic for a guy when he was having
- 36:05Speaker 6: the surgery, like, this is to give me a chance
- 36:07Speaker 6: to yeah back right.
- 36:08Speaker 4: So so let me ask you. You know, we're gonna
- 36:10Speaker 4: get down to the offensive rabbit hole. Offensive line rabbit
- 36:13Speaker 4: hole here we do. So let's just say David Andrews
- 36:15Speaker 4: comes back, he's healthy, he's your center. Yeah, cold strange
- 36:19Speaker 4: goes to a guard yep, and when you still under contract. Yeah,
- 36:23Speaker 4: are we now only filling too Well.
- 36:26Speaker 5: That's what your hope is, Well, that's what I'm asking.
- 36:28Speaker 9: Yeah, So you know we've had it's interesting conversation about
- 36:31Speaker 9: left guard. I mean, right you got to keep on
- 36:33Speaker 9: one who at right guard and stop messing with it
- 36:35Speaker 9: like he's a right guard.
- 36:37Speaker 7: You know you paid him at it totally.
- 36:38Speaker 9: You paid him. It's fine, You're gonna have an expensive
- 36:41Speaker 9: right guard. It is what it is. Left guard is
- 36:43Speaker 9: a position that between Laden Robinson and Cole Strange. You
- 36:47Speaker 9: should be able to fill that internally. You should not
- 36:50Speaker 9: have to spend more resources to go out and spend
- 36:53Speaker 9: more money or draft capital on a guard. You know
- 36:56Speaker 9: a lot of Trey Smith is a is a name
- 36:58Speaker 9: from the Chiefs that gets kicked around a lot because
- 37:00Speaker 9: he's gonna be one of the top free agents. I'm
- 37:02Speaker 9: not paying two guards forty million dollars combined. That's to
- 37:06Speaker 9: me crazy. So yeah, I think in theory you hope
- 37:10Speaker 9: that you're filling the tackle spots. I'm not ready to
- 37:12Speaker 9: put Kyden Wallace in any sort of starting position yet,
- 37:16Speaker 9: so I think you're you're really thinking about both tackle spots.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Okay.
- 37:19Speaker 6: I mean, I'd like an honest assessment, and I'm not
- 37:21Speaker 6: the one to do it. Is how good is David
- 37:24Speaker 6: anders falling off? Is he still at the top of
- 37:26Speaker 6: his and he's still like, you know, And because in
- 37:29Speaker 6: that regard, I'm not sure. I'm really not sure, And
- 37:32Speaker 6: I might say, let's keep Cole Strange at center and
- 37:35Speaker 6: maybe this is kind of more of a competition thing,
- 37:36Speaker 6: and maybe we get to camp and David Andrews realizes
- 37:40Speaker 6: my shoulders aren't quite there yet, or you know, I
- 37:42Speaker 6: know he was hurt this year, but some of the
- 37:44Speaker 6: film that he put up was was you.
- 37:45Speaker 5: Know, I agree with you in that he might not
- 37:48Speaker 5: physically be able to do it. I mean, it's it's easy.
- 37:50Speaker 5: Right now, he's probably feeling a little bit better, and
- 37:54Speaker 5: it's easy to just say, Okay, I'm gonna pencil him
- 37:56Speaker 5: in at center. I do think that they need to
- 37:58Speaker 5: figure out first of all, they can't go into another
- 38:01Speaker 5: season with no backup center. Okay, is Ben Brown the
- 38:06Speaker 5: backup center?
- 38:07Speaker 7: Exclusive rights free agent? I'd grab him for camp.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Do they need to do more than that? I would
- 38:13Speaker 5: say yes. So to Mike's point, it's easy to say
- 38:18Speaker 5: David Andrews is the center, col strangers the guard, but
- 38:21Speaker 5: you still need some more options because I didn't see
- 38:24Speaker 5: anything on the rookies last year to say like, oh,
- 38:26Speaker 5: we don't have to worry about it because we have
- 38:28Speaker 5: Yeah Robinson.
- 38:29Speaker 6: And it seemed like though the whole coaching staff was
- 38:31Speaker 6: talking about Cole strange is like we see him as
- 38:33Speaker 6: a center.
- 38:34Speaker 7: Like I just wonder.
- 38:35Speaker 6: I know a new coaching staff might be coming in,
- 38:37Speaker 6: but can he still play guard? Do teams, you know,
- 38:39Speaker 6: do they still think he can be that guy?
- 38:42Speaker 9: I'm with you on David Andrews. I don't. I think
- 38:45Speaker 9: you could hope that he's going to come back and
- 38:47Speaker 9: be David Andrews. But I thought that there was a
- 38:49Speaker 9: little bit of a drop off already hitting in twenty three,
- 38:52Speaker 9: and then in twenty four at the beginning of the
- 38:54Speaker 9: year there was there's that drop off, especially in past
- 38:56Speaker 9: protection still exist and then the injury happens. I don't
- 39:01Speaker 9: think that it's crazy to say, what's our contingency point?
- 39:05Speaker 4: So let me ask you a question, other than the
- 39:06Speaker 4: actual snapping of the ball, what would make a coach
- 39:09Speaker 4: say about a guard, I see him as a center.
- 39:12Speaker 9: It has to do a lot I think with you know,
- 39:15Speaker 9: the ability to block guys right over you. So at center,
- 39:19Speaker 9: you're a lot of the time you're uncovered on the
- 39:21Speaker 9: line of scrimmage, so you're not going to have somebody
- 39:23Speaker 9: that's right over you on the line, whereas at guard
- 39:26Speaker 9: you do, so those those car crashes happen quickly. If
- 39:29Speaker 9: he doesn't have the play strength to move those guys,
- 39:31Speaker 9: then it's harder to play guard than it is to
- 39:33Speaker 9: play center. Usually you can get away with being a
- 39:35Speaker 9: little bit more undersized in a thinner sense.
- 39:38Speaker 4: Yeah, but if you're a guy that doesn't have the
- 39:40Speaker 4: play strength, then all of a sudden, if I'm a
- 39:42Speaker 4: defensive coordinator, I'm lining up a guy over you because
- 39:46Speaker 4: you don't have play strength.
- 39:47Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean that that would be the smart thing
- 39:48Speaker 9: to do, if you're like a Bill Belichick game planner, right,
- 39:51Speaker 9: you would do something like that. But a lot of
- 39:53Speaker 9: teams play fronts where they're shaded or they're playing overfronts
- 39:56Speaker 9: where they don't have somebody directly over the center, like
- 39:59Speaker 9: a nose tackle, like a Vince Wilfork, you know type
- 40:01Speaker 9: nose tackles, So that position, the nose tackle straight up
- 40:05Speaker 9: zero technique doesn't exist as much in the league as
- 40:08Speaker 9: it did ten to fifteen years ago. A lot of
- 40:10Speaker 9: teams now put guys in the gaps to try to
- 40:13Speaker 9: knife into the line of scrimmage instead. So you would
- 40:16Speaker 9: think in theory that playing center it would be easier
- 40:20Speaker 9: in terms of making up for the lack of play
- 40:22Speaker 9: strength or mass on his frame.
- 40:23Speaker 5: Would it be fair to say that the difference between
- 40:26Speaker 5: playing centering guard is smaller than the difference between playing
- 40:31Speaker 5: guard and tackle. Oh, I would say, in a difference
- 40:33Speaker 5: in what respect, like it's harder to you know, to
- 40:35Speaker 5: go from guard to tackle than it would be from
- 40:37Speaker 5: guard to center.
- 40:38Speaker 9: Yeah, I think the I would say, yes, you know,
- 40:41Speaker 9: the biggest difference obviously is just the space that you're blocking.
- 40:44Speaker 9: With right I tackle, you're in a lot more space,
- 40:47Speaker 9: and there's a lot more space between you and the
- 40:49Speaker 9: in the rusher most of the time as well, so
- 40:51Speaker 9: you're kind of dancing out there, whereas at guard and
- 40:54Speaker 9: centered in the interior, those things happen really really quickly.
- 40:57Speaker 5: I would also say you're dealing with much better.
- 40:59Speaker 11: Athletes for the most outside a report, We've got a
- 41:03Speaker 11: report out there.
- 41:04Speaker 6: Byron Leftwich to interview for Patriots.
- 41:08Speaker 4: I haven't heard in a while former quarterbacks Tampa.
- 41:15Speaker 9: I don't think he's I think he's out of coaching
- 41:18Speaker 9: right now. Okay, so that one can happen right away,
- 41:21Speaker 9: which might be part of it.
- 41:24Speaker 7: Okay, moving quick.
- 41:26Speaker 4: All right? Eight five five pass five hundred. Is the
- 41:28Speaker 4: TPX Hutline podcast at Patriots dot com. Is the email address.
- 41:33Speaker 4: Let's open up the phones. We'll start with Patty and Agawam.
- 41:39Speaker 4: What's up, Patty?
- 41:41Speaker 12: Take it afternoon, gentlemen. I just wanted to go over
- 41:46Speaker 12: a couple of things. I did have a rant that
- 41:49Speaker 12: I wanted to call in on the postgame show about Mayo,
- 41:51Speaker 12: but I'm not going to really touch on that other
- 41:55Speaker 12: than like I think you know, the right move was made,
- 41:59Speaker 12: and I felt like if if they brought him back,
- 42:01Speaker 12: just personally, not trying to hurt anyone's feelings personally me
- 42:04Speaker 12: as a fan, I felt like it would have been
- 42:05Speaker 12: insulted by intelligence as a fan if Craft would have
- 42:08Speaker 12: brought him back. And I was all on board after
- 42:11Speaker 12: like until the until the bye week. But I heard
- 42:15Speaker 12: Pill Perry talk yesterday because I heard you guys bring
- 42:17Speaker 12: up like if if Brable does come, is they're going
- 42:20Speaker 12: to bring his own personnel guy Elliott Wolf is plated
- 42:23Speaker 12: to be on until you know, the end the next
- 42:25Speaker 12: season when his contract runs out. But Perry said something
- 42:29Speaker 12: about possibly Brave will bring in one of his guys,
- 42:32Speaker 12: but just moving Ellie Wolf into a different role. And
- 42:36Speaker 12: I wanted to see what you guys thought about that,
- 42:37Speaker 12: and I wanted to ask you guys, you hope that
- 42:40Speaker 12: we keep guys like probably not gonna happen, but like
- 42:43Speaker 12: Brian Belichick Pellegrino, I don't want to go anywhere, and
- 42:48Speaker 12: maybe T. C. McCartney too, if they're going to clear
- 42:51Speaker 12: house as far as the coordinators go. That's all I got.
- 42:53Speaker 12: I'll take it off there, guys.
- 42:54Speaker 4: Okay, thanks Patty.
- 42:55Speaker 7: That's tough.
- 42:56Speaker 6: I mean, I also thought with the Perry report, he
- 42:58Speaker 6: hit on what we talked about yesterday was that Elliott
- 43:00Speaker 6: said we were going to implement a new scouting system,
- 43:02Speaker 6: but that they really didn't have a chance to fully
- 43:04Speaker 6: implement it till this year and this cycle, so you
- 43:07Speaker 6: didn't really see the full fruits of the labor of
- 43:09Speaker 6: you know, what they were trying to change in that regard.
- 43:11Speaker 6: So but I like that. I just like the report
- 43:14Speaker 6: that there's flexibility there. I like Elliott Wolf. I know
- 43:16Speaker 6: he didn't have a great first year, but I think
- 43:18Speaker 6: he's got the pedigree, he's got the experience, he's got
- 43:20Speaker 6: the understanding. I think he's respected around the league. Not
- 43:23Speaker 6: a great first year, no question, but we'll see. Well,
- 43:26Speaker 6: the new coaching staff maybe that changes a little bit,
- 43:28Speaker 6: and he's got a little bit of an interstitial year
- 43:30Speaker 6: to you know, figure out where his role is. But
- 43:32Speaker 6: I think it's a good message to send, like he
- 43:34Speaker 6: doesn't eliminate other people from coming in, being above him,
- 43:37Speaker 6: moving him around, But I like keeping him around.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Well, I think again, it's gonna be up to the
- 43:42Speaker 4: new head coach.
- 43:43Speaker 5: I want a complete change.
- 43:45Speaker 6: You think he you think he can be completely out too.
- 43:47Speaker 6: I mean, could the new coach can be like, yeah,
- 43:49Speaker 6: that's great, No he's gone.
- 43:51Speaker 5: Yeah I don't Yeah, I don't really have I mean,
- 43:53Speaker 5: I'm not gonna cherry pick every single guy because Fred
- 43:56Speaker 5: says this all the time, we don't know. I want
- 43:59Speaker 5: everybody gone. I want I want the new coach to
- 44:02Speaker 5: come in and hopefully have better options. Yeah, because I
- 44:06Speaker 5: don't think any element of the team was good last year,
- 44:08Speaker 5: So I don't really need to see anybody come back.
- 44:11Speaker 5: And that's not fair. That's a blanket statement.
- 44:13Speaker 9: It's completely unfair, unfair though, I mean, the proof is
- 44:17Speaker 9: in the pudding. I think the biggest thing, though, is
- 44:20Speaker 9: that he went into that last offseason preaching the Packer
- 44:23Speaker 9: way of draft, develop up and patients and basically tried
- 44:27Speaker 9: to execute that. But you knew that that was going
- 44:30Speaker 9: to be a multi year process. So as much as
- 44:32Speaker 9: you can sit here and say, let's clean house, you
- 44:35Speaker 9: know they didn't go out and do what everybody wanted
- 44:38Speaker 9: them to do necessarily. And I think some of that
- 44:40Speaker 9: had to do with the fact that they wanted to
- 44:42Speaker 9: draft and play those young players and try to develop
- 44:45Speaker 9: from within, just like the Packers used to do. Now
- 44:48Speaker 9: it didn't work, at least for this season.
- 44:50Speaker 4: So but but you now you start getting into the
- 44:53Speaker 4: different layers here. Okay, So the Packag way is draft
- 44:58Speaker 4: and develop, who develops the assistant coaches, who's picking the
- 45:01Speaker 4: assistant coaches? The coach because Elliott Wolf isn't, so like,
- 45:09Speaker 4: you have to work together in order to have that
- 45:12Speaker 4: pack away. Whoever's picking the assistant coaches, they have to
- 45:15Speaker 4: do it right or else it just doesn't work.
- 45:17Speaker 9: You can't develop, Yeah, both of receivers, even a guy
- 45:22Speaker 9: like Leyden Robinson, And like, I don't want to put
- 45:24Speaker 9: a ton of stock into this tape against the Bills
- 45:27Speaker 9: on Sunday, but I thought it was rough for him
- 45:31Speaker 9: in the.
- 45:31Speaker 5: Real I thought you were going to go the other
- 45:33Speaker 5: way that you were saying. I don't want to put
- 45:34Speaker 5: a lot of stocking because I know he struggled in
- 45:36Speaker 5: a lot of these games since he got back in
- 45:38Speaker 5: the starting line.
- 45:39Speaker 9: I just don't see it. I think he's got play strength,
- 45:41Speaker 9: I think he's got effort. I think he's got finished
- 45:44Speaker 9: But in terms of technique, he's got a long long
- 45:46Speaker 9: way to go before he's like a solid starter in
- 45:48Speaker 9: the NFL. And they had That's a guy that they
- 45:51Speaker 9: had healthy all season long to try to work with
- 45:55Speaker 9: with Scott Peters and that staff and develop, and I
- 45:58Speaker 9: just it's it's fundamental. So it's not necessarily that he
- 46:01Speaker 9: doesn't have the ability physically to be a starter in
- 46:04Speaker 9: this league. It's hand technique, it's you know, footwork, things
- 46:07Speaker 9: like that that are just not there.
- 46:09Speaker 5: I knew he would struggle in past protection at times.
- 46:14Speaker 5: Talking to Steve Dazio doing his post draft work and
- 46:18Speaker 5: when we did the you know, talking to his coaches,
- 46:21Speaker 5: he thought he would be really close, pretty close to
- 46:24Speaker 5: a play and play kind of guy in the run
- 46:26Speaker 5: game though, and I haven't seen that kind of consistency now.
- 46:30Speaker 5: I wonder if that has something to do with the
- 46:31Speaker 5: stuff that Evan talks about all the time with you know,
- 46:34Speaker 5: the gap scheme as opposed to the zone schemes, and
- 46:36Speaker 5: maybe he's not as well, you know, suited for one
- 46:40Speaker 5: over the other. And maybe the switches back and forth
- 46:43Speaker 5: have heard him because I thought he would be sort
- 46:45Speaker 5: of a road grading kind of guard, and I don't
- 46:48Speaker 5: think we've seen that.
- 46:49Speaker 6: That's one of the interesting things to me, both on
- 46:51Speaker 6: both sides of the ball, is just new regime comes in.
- 46:54Speaker 6: We've talked about it all season long. A lot of
- 46:56Speaker 6: these guys on both sides of the ball, they kind
- 46:57Speaker 6: of straddle the fence of these two different kind of
- 46:59Speaker 6: philosophies of you know, schematically both offense and defensive side
- 47:02Speaker 6: of the ball.
- 47:03Speaker 7: So, you know, does a new person.
- 47:05Speaker 6: Come in and just say, all right, all the you know,
- 47:07Speaker 6: all the zone blockers they're gone, or you know, we
- 47:10Speaker 6: go on the defensive side of the ball.
- 47:11Speaker 7: Our two gappers are gone. You know, like that's just examples.
- 47:14Speaker 6: But I just I wonder new guy come in and
- 47:16Speaker 6: all of a sudden, we're going to see some significant changes,
- 47:18Speaker 6: maybe that you're not expecting right now. But just because
- 47:20Speaker 6: this guy comes in, he knows what he wants. Ben
- 47:22Speaker 6: Johnson knows what he wants, knows these guys aren't fit
- 47:25Speaker 6: what he wants, and he needs to move on.
- 47:27Speaker 9: It's a great point because, especially on the offensive line,
- 47:29Speaker 9: I thought both Kayden Wallace and Laden Robinson fit more
- 47:32Speaker 9: of a downhill gap scheme, you know, bigger, thicker guys
- 47:36Speaker 9: that could get downhill, and then they were trying to
- 47:38Speaker 9: implement a zone scheme. And I remember talking to Jim
- 47:41Speaker 9: Nagy from the Senior Bowl being like, is Leyden Robinson
- 47:44Speaker 9: really a fit for what they're trying to do And
- 47:46Speaker 9: he was like, you know, he can do it. And
- 47:48Speaker 9: I was like, that's not optimistic, so.
- 47:51Speaker 5: Like it was just that's really bad from him.
- 47:53Speaker 9: Yeah, So it was like kind of a weird combination.
- 47:56Speaker 9: I like, Leyden Robinson to me, feels like an old
- 47:59Speaker 9: school Belichick guard, like kind of right, you know, smash
- 48:03Speaker 9: mouth football. That's not zone like zone. You need athletes
- 48:07Speaker 9: you need cold strangers, not Layden Robinson's.
- 48:10Speaker 5: So I would just say, you know, with the draft itself,
- 48:14Speaker 5: you know, we talked a lot about you know, it
- 48:16Speaker 5: doesn't look great. I would still hold out hope for
- 48:19Speaker 5: those two offensive linemen because I do think offensive linemen
- 48:22Speaker 5: don't always hit the ground running. You know, We've seen
- 48:26Speaker 5: a lot of guys sort of struggle. We've seen a
- 48:28Speaker 5: lot of left tackles start on the right side because
- 48:31Speaker 5: they're not quite ready for the left side. I've seen
- 48:33Speaker 5: a lot of different combinations of that, and I just
- 48:36Speaker 5: would say with those two guys, they got their feet wet.
- 48:39Speaker 5: It wasn't great for either one of them, more so
- 48:43Speaker 5: Robinson because Wallace was hurt for and he also had
- 48:45Speaker 5: a significant injury, missed a lot of time. I think
- 48:50Speaker 5: you're probably fair if you're saying, like, jeez, you know,
- 48:52Speaker 5: Polk and Baker don't look great, that's probably fair because
- 48:55Speaker 5: I think it's easier to make an impact at that spot.
- 48:58Speaker 5: Sometimes the offensive line takes a little while. I wouldn't
- 49:01Speaker 5: give up on those.
- 49:02Speaker 4: And I would say like, once you get to the pros,
- 49:06Speaker 4: veterans have tricks and caginess that they can make an
- 49:10Speaker 4: offensive lineman of a rookie look bad because they just
- 49:14Speaker 4: have things that you just need to learn from experience.
- 49:17Speaker 5: Also, wouldn't discount the absence of David Andrews to help. Yeah,
- 49:20Speaker 5: sort of in the middle sp communication, especially for Robinson.
- 49:23Speaker 9: Yeah, can we go back to this bar and left
- 49:25Speaker 9: which thing for a second. Yeah, sure, because this is uh,
- 49:29Speaker 9: this to me like perks up my intennas a little
- 49:31Speaker 9: bit because you can interview in person immediately if the
- 49:35Speaker 9: person is not employed by a team. That's how Rabel
- 49:39Speaker 9: is able to go around and start interviewing already. You
- 49:42Speaker 9: have to check off the two interviews with Rooney rule candidates,
- 49:45Speaker 9: minority or women candidates. You have to have two of them.
- 49:48Speaker 9: You have to have them in person. So he was
- 49:52Speaker 9: hanging out. I'm just connecting, doc h. If you have
- 49:55Speaker 9: Byron Leftwich in for an in person interview, you have
- 49:58Speaker 9: another minority a candidate in for an in person interview.
- 50:01Speaker 9: Later this week, you talk to Ben Johnson, you talk
- 50:04Speaker 9: to Mike Rabel. You could have Rabel as your head
- 50:06Speaker 9: coach by next week. Yeah, you know, and I that's
- 50:09Speaker 9: just my opinion. I'm just but when you look at
- 50:13Speaker 9: these things, that's that always perks your ears up when
- 50:16Speaker 9: they have a guy that hasn't been coaching in two years,
- 50:18Speaker 9: all of a sudden he suddenly pops up with an
- 50:20Speaker 9: head coaching interview.
- 50:22Speaker 7: He's already on the plane right now.
- 50:23Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, might have been here anyway, just visiting stop in. Yeah,
- 50:30Speaker 4: Joe's in New Hampshire. Joe Joe good.
- 50:37Speaker 10: All right. So I called in last week saying I
- 50:42Speaker 10: didn't want Brabel, which I've I've changed my position a
- 50:45Speaker 10: little bit. I still prefer Ben Johnson, even though he
- 50:48Speaker 10: was mean in a middle school play.
- 50:51Speaker 5: We got to report today that's not been confirmed.
- 50:56Speaker 10: Even the hearing this news of left Wick coming in
- 50:58Speaker 10: for an interview, it like an't said. It kind of
- 51:01Speaker 10: purks up my ears as well, because maybe if Rabel's
- 51:06Speaker 10: hired as a head coach, maybe you get left which
- 51:08Speaker 10: is the O C, which I think has some potential there.
- 51:13Speaker 10: I still would rather have an offensive guy as a
- 51:16Speaker 10: head coach, just because I feel like the league is
- 51:18Speaker 10: trending in offense. We have this young quarterback who should
- 51:21Speaker 10: be really attractive to guys like Ben Johnson, Bobby Slow,
- 51:25Speaker 10: like other offensive coordinators around the league. I just kind
- 51:30Speaker 10: of want to get a little bit of your thoughts
- 51:33Speaker 10: as preferring offensive or defensive head coach and the idea
- 51:38Speaker 10: of left which may be coming in more so to
- 51:40Speaker 10: be the offensive coordinator if Rabel's the choice, and I'll
- 51:44Speaker 10: take it off there. Thanks guys.
- 51:46Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 51:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I like, I get it. It's an
- 51:49Speaker 6: offensive league and that's what's sexy and sells the tickets
- 51:53Speaker 6: and gets people butts in seats. I think it's just
- 51:55Speaker 6: a special situation though right now with Vrabel, where he's
- 51:57Speaker 6: such a unique guide to this organization that doesn't come
- 52:00Speaker 6: around very often. I mean, he's, you know, really the
- 52:02Speaker 6: one person that came out of the dynasty that's been
- 52:05Speaker 6: successful in the coaching ranks. I know he's not part
- 52:07Speaker 6: of the Belichick tree, but he was a Belichick player,
- 52:10Speaker 6: so I think that's what makes him unique to me,
- 52:11Speaker 6: and that's what's intriguing. But I think all the points
- 52:13Speaker 6: that we've made about then you're gonna have to have
- 52:15Speaker 6: a good plan and a good system for your offense
- 52:17Speaker 6: so that if you have a great year, and which
- 52:19Speaker 6: will be great of course, the offensive coordinator gets a
- 52:22Speaker 6: chance to leave, you've got somebody in the pipeline, which
- 52:24Speaker 6: I mean verbel already had some experience with that, right
- 52:26Speaker 6: with with Lafleur and Arthur Smith, so that that maybe
- 52:29Speaker 6: is encouraging.
- 52:30Speaker 7: But I just think rabel is unique.
- 52:31Speaker 6: I don't think I'd be actively pursuing defensive coaches.
- 52:35Speaker 7: But he is what he is. I think he's you know,
- 52:37Speaker 7: he can't he can't replace He's mic.
- 52:39Speaker 4: I mean, one of the things that Belichick did successfully
- 52:43Speaker 4: early on was he had he set up a pipeline internally,
- 52:47Speaker 4: you know, like there was a succession plan for almost
- 52:49Speaker 4: every high level coaching position. Now, eventually the churn got
- 52:54Speaker 4: too much.
- 52:55Speaker 5: I was too fast.
- 52:56Speaker 4: It was too fast later on, but there was always
- 52:59Speaker 4: someone in waiting.
- 53:00Speaker 5: Like they had guys like Dabele and McDaniels as coaching
- 53:03Speaker 5: assistants when it started, and it wasn't until two thousand
- 53:08Speaker 5: and five that you needed to started to tap into.
- 53:11Speaker 4: That, right they had a chance to learn, whereas.
- 53:14Speaker 5: Like McDaniels, Leaves and the guys that were tapped to
- 53:17Speaker 5: replace them had been there for like a year or two,
- 53:20Speaker 5: you know, so you really didn't have you know, like
- 53:21Speaker 5: the Nick Kayley's of the world, you know, going back now,
- 53:25Speaker 5: you know, those kinds of coaching assistant Eric Mangini. They
- 53:30Speaker 5: Eric Mangini was there to replace Romeo. He had been
- 53:32Speaker 5: around since the beginning of two thousand, so I think
- 53:36Speaker 5: when it started to recycle faster, there was less time
- 53:41Speaker 5: for those coaching assistants to sort of get their feet wet,
- 53:44Speaker 5: and I think that's they weren't ready yet.
- 53:46Speaker 6: I just thought of something a little different though. It
- 53:48Speaker 6: was like, I mean, is it too much to hope
- 53:49Speaker 6: that the quarterback developed so well that it really doesn't
- 53:52Speaker 6: matter all that much. I mean it's like, are we
- 53:54Speaker 6: all I mean much to hope? Yeah, Well, that was
- 53:57Speaker 6: about to make the point of how lucky they were
- 53:58Speaker 6: to have Josh McDaniels in two thousand and five. And
- 54:01Speaker 6: you know, but at that point, do you give Josh
- 54:03Speaker 6: McDaniel's credit for five or six or seven?
- 54:06Speaker 5: Totally get your point, but yeah, I think it's too
- 54:09Speaker 5: much gas for that.
- 54:10Speaker 6: But there are quarterbacks out there like Patrick Mahomes, like
- 54:12Speaker 6: doesn't really matter who is offensive.
- 54:14Speaker 5: Again, but I would say, yes, it's too much gas
- 54:16Speaker 5: for that, right, I think that I want quarterback, so
- 54:20Speaker 5: it's more likely going to be like Sam Donald, he
- 54:22Speaker 5: needs some help. He has the ability, but he's going
- 54:24Speaker 5: to need some help.
- 54:26Speaker 9: The example is obviously you know Josh Allen with the
- 54:30Speaker 9: Bills where Dable leaves.
- 54:33Speaker 5: And he's coordinated.
- 54:35Speaker 9: Yes, they did strike out at first with Ken Dorsey
- 54:38Speaker 9: and then they get Joe Brady in there. Now they're
- 54:40Speaker 9: a wagon again. So he was mostly quarterback or o
- 54:44Speaker 9: see proof you know didn't go great with Dorsey.
- 54:47Speaker 5: Brady, he was still pretty good with Yes, Dorsey stunk
- 54:50Speaker 5: and right by the way, I lost another joke.
- 54:52Speaker 9: Yeah, but that's what you know three four years down
- 54:55Speaker 9: the line. So I think the only thing if you
- 54:56Speaker 9: hire Rabel to me is that when you hire the
- 54:58Speaker 9: offensive coordinator, you can hire McDaniels. Soon's not going anywhere, right, Like,
- 55:02Speaker 9: that's one option. But if you do want to hire
- 55:04Speaker 9: somebody that's on the track to be a head coach,
- 55:07Speaker 9: you kind of need to get a little bit of
- 55:08Speaker 9: an assurance that he's going to be here for two
- 55:11Speaker 9: to three years. Like I don't know if you can
- 55:13Speaker 9: make that a handshake deal or whatever, but you don't
- 55:15Speaker 9: want it to be every single year.
- 55:17Speaker 5: And to your point, I like the way you think
- 55:20Speaker 5: hopefully you know four is like okay.
- 55:24Speaker 6: Like I said, well, if I tell you how I
- 55:26Speaker 6: came up with it because I was thinking of like, well,
- 55:27Speaker 6: it's pretty lucky to head, and then I started thinking,
- 55:29Speaker 6: I'm like, if I right now say that, if I
- 55:30Speaker 6: give Josh McDaniels too much credit right here, this one's
- 55:33Speaker 6: gonna jump down my throat. And I was like, well no,
- 55:35Speaker 6: but like, I mean that's you know, I mean, look,
- 55:37Speaker 6: there's only one Trom Brady, and there's only a handful
- 55:39Speaker 6: of quarterbacks probably in league history. They're truly offensive coordinator proof.
- 55:43Speaker 6: But I do think that it's you know, it's it's
- 55:45Speaker 6: not too much to hope that Drake may if he
- 55:47Speaker 6: has a really good couple of years.
- 55:48Speaker 5: Yes, is it wouldn't have been as good if Charlie
- 55:51Speaker 5: Weiss left after the first Super Bowl and all yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 55:54Speaker 5: and McDaniels took over, you know, two years removed from
- 55:58Speaker 5: being a coaching assistant and Brady is really just becoming
- 56:02Speaker 5: Tom Brady, right I think it wouldn't have been as
- 56:04Speaker 5: good right away now now Brady's greatness, I think would
- 56:07Speaker 5: have I.
- 56:08Speaker 6: Do, I mean, I do give Josh credit for seven
- 56:10Speaker 6: of putting that together, you know, like, I mean, we
- 56:13Speaker 6: knew Tom was great, but he really adjusted.
- 56:16Speaker 7: Things and came up with you know some good stuff,
- 56:19Speaker 7: Randy Moss.
- 56:20Speaker 5: What do you want to Brady credit for?
- 56:22Speaker 4: All right, we're gonna take up break Paul's foods here,
- 56:25Speaker 4: he said. Now that what we're getting ready for a
- 56:27Speaker 4: new regime. He's gonna start eating again. Is that what
- 56:30Speaker 4: you know?
- 56:30Speaker 5: I was very longry.
- 56:33Speaker 4: We're gonna take a break. When we come back, more
- 56:35Speaker 4: calls and emails. Maybe we'll talk a little bit about
- 56:37Speaker 4: shared Vision. We'll do that when we come back.

- 57:40Speaker 8: I'm going to be very brief here and say this
- 57:45Speaker 8: whole situation is on me. I feel terrible for Jerrod
- 57:52Speaker 8: because I put him in an untenable situation. I know
- 57:58Speaker 8: that he has all the tools as a head coach
- 58:02Speaker 8: to be successful in this league. He just needed more
- 58:07Speaker 8: time before taking the job. In the end, I'm a
- 58:14Speaker 8: fan of this team first, and now I have to
- 58:19Speaker 8: go out and find a coach who can guess get
- 58:22Speaker 8: us back to the playoffs and hopefully championships. We're open
- 58:29Speaker 8: for questions.
- 58:36Speaker 4: Robert, just when was the decision made in your mind?
- 58:40Speaker 15: When was it that you felt you needed to let
- 58:42Speaker 15: him go.
- 58:44Speaker 8: This whole situation evolved, but I'd say over the last
- 58:50Speaker 8: month I went back and forth, and I don't know.
- 58:56Speaker 8: In my life and my business, I make certain decisions.
- 59:01Speaker 8: I know when it's right, and it just happened, and
- 59:04Speaker 8: it was very hard because the personal relationship I feel
- 59:10Speaker 8: for girod and and the human being he is, and
- 59:17Speaker 8: I felt guilty I put him in that position. But
- 59:20Speaker 8: we're moving on.
- 59:23Speaker 5: Current.
- 59:24Speaker 16: Hey, Robert, what will happen with, for instance, the personnel department,
- 59:29Speaker 16: what decisions be made with whoever the next coach is
- 59:33Speaker 16: having the latitude to bring his own players, his own
- 59:37Speaker 16: scouting staff, his own coaches.
- 59:39Speaker 8: Yeah, well we'll wait till we bring that coach in.
- 59:43Speaker 8: And he's obviously he's going to have big input on
- 59:51Speaker 8: who the players are and who the coaches are. It
- 59:54Speaker 8: would be his decisions.
- 59:56Speaker 16: So at this juncture would be status quo for everybody
- 1:00:00Speaker 16: on the staff until an.
- 1:00:01Speaker 8: Individual subse yes, well, let look, we move fast and
- 1:00:05Speaker 8: we're gonna let him make those decisions.
- 1:00:13Speaker 17: Robert, I know that you don't make snap decisions. So
- 1:00:15Speaker 17: I was wondering, at what point during the season did
- 1:00:19Speaker 17: you say something was not right? And if you could
- 1:00:21Speaker 17: expand on that, what caught your attention that something wasn't right.
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: Well, in the important decisions in my life, I've always
- 1:00:31Speaker 8: said I measured nine times and cut once, and this
- 1:00:37Speaker 8: was one of those situations. I guess The main thing
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: for me is I felt we regressed the high point
- 1:00:47Speaker 8: of everything for me was winning in the Cincinnati game,
- 1:00:53Speaker 8: and then in mid mid season, I just think we
- 1:00:58Speaker 8: started to regress.
- 1:01:01Speaker 15: I don't heard, Robert, how significantly has fan reaction to
- 1:01:08Speaker 15: the product on the field and too drud specifically played
- 1:01:11Speaker 15: into your decision.
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: Well, I'm the biggest fan, so I understand, and you
- 1:01:19Speaker 8: know i've all since the day we bought this team,
- 1:01:22Speaker 8: and I realized what a privilege as it was, and
- 1:01:26Speaker 8: how lucky we were as a family that this is
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: the only business we're involved in where I see ourselves.
- 1:01:37Speaker 8: We don't own this team. It's owned by the fans
- 1:01:40Speaker 8: of this region, and we're custodians of a very special
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: asset of the community. And that's why that helps me
- 1:01:51Speaker 8: try to make decisions that if it was just personal,
- 1:01:56Speaker 8: it would be different.
- 1:02:01Speaker 7: Robert, aside from yourself and Jonathan, who will be involved
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: in the head coaching interviews and what traits are you
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: looking for?
- 1:02:09Speaker 8: Well, well, we'll have Alonso high Smith and Elliott will
- 1:02:20Speaker 8: be involved and we're gonna try to understand who can
- 1:02:25Speaker 8: help us best get back to the playoffs.
- 1:02:33Speaker 18: Robert, Does that mean Elliott and his staff are going
- 1:02:39Speaker 18: to continue on or where the coaching hire also impact
- 1:02:43Speaker 18: your front office.
- 1:02:45Speaker 8: We are are looking for people working together and they
- 1:02:50Speaker 8: will be staying one.
- 1:02:56Speaker 19: Of Robert, when you say that the situation was untenable,
- 1:02:59Speaker 19: what about it specifically did you find untenable and how
- 1:03:03Speaker 19: will that influence how you approach this search.
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: I don't like losing. I don't like losing the way
- 1:03:15Speaker 8: we lost, and I just just things were not developing
- 1:03:26Speaker 8: the way we would have liked and it was time
- 1:03:29Speaker 8: to move on.
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: Robert, how big of a search do you plan on
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: conduct How big of a coaching search do you plan
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: on conducting?
- 1:03:41Speaker 8: Well, we we want to interview as many people as
- 1:03:47Speaker 8: we can that we think can help us get to
- 1:03:51Speaker 8: that position that we want to be in, so we
- 1:03:58Speaker 8: have put out and requests and Stacy will be filling
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: you in on that.
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: Robert, thank you for taking our questions.
- 1:04:13Speaker 12: Appreciate it is Mike Vrabel at or near the top
- 1:04:17Speaker 12: of your list.
- 1:04:18Speaker 7: It seems to be the talk.
- 1:04:23Speaker 8: We before i'd make a comment like that, I'd like,
- 1:04:28Speaker 8: I don't know all the people involved, and there are
- 1:04:35Speaker 8: some wonderful people that we've heard about, so I'd rather
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: respond to that after I've seen everyone.
- 1:04:45Speaker 20: Robert, can you speak a bit more to the timing
- 1:04:47Speaker 20: of this. Did Gerard know before the game? I'm right
- 1:04:51Speaker 20: over here.
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: Sorry, sorry, thank you.
- 1:04:53Speaker 20: I was wondering if you could speak a bit more
- 1:04:55Speaker 20: to the timing of this. Did Gerard know before the
- 1:04:58Speaker 20: game that this would be his last game coaching?
- 1:05:02Speaker 8: No, I know this was.
- 1:05:09Speaker 7: Very difficult for you. Sit down with him. How did
- 1:05:13Speaker 7: he take it? How did he respond? Was he shocked
- 1:05:16Speaker 7: by the news?
- 1:05:18Speaker 8: He was a man. Look, it was one of the
- 1:05:23Speaker 8: more difficult things I've had a do in my life
- 1:05:28Speaker 8: because I had such affection for him and I believe
- 1:05:34Speaker 8: in him, and I really do believe he will go
- 1:05:41Speaker 8: on and as he gets more experience, it will be successful.
- 1:05:50Speaker 8: It was not easy. He was a gentleman and accepted
- 1:05:55Speaker 8: it that way.
- 1:06:00Speaker 21: Robert, this is going to be very expensive buying out
- 1:06:05Speaker 21: a coaching staff, bringing in on new coaching staff. Perhaps
- 1:06:08Speaker 21: it goes to the personnel department. You also have one
- 1:06:10Speaker 21: hundred and twenty million dollars in cap space this year,
- 1:06:13Speaker 21: the most in the league. Well, what you spend on
- 1:06:16Speaker 21: this transition effect anything that you spend on players this offseason?
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: Yeah, i'd.
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: Sure is.
- 1:06:26Speaker 8: No, we will. We've always had a situation where we
- 1:06:32Speaker 8: spend to the cap and if we go over the
- 1:06:35Speaker 8: We have never told any coach or limited the spending.
- 1:06:40Speaker 8: The only thing we've said is if you exceed the cap,
- 1:06:44Speaker 8: we like to see it leveled out over three years
- 1:06:48Speaker 8: and you know so that we never get way out
- 1:06:52Speaker 8: of hand. But spending to the cap or above the
- 1:06:57Speaker 8: cap is not. We want to win. That's our priority. First.
- 1:07:04Speaker 11: Hi, Robert, back here, how are you. You guys were
- 1:07:08Speaker 11: told this was a multi year rebuild, that it wasn't
- 1:07:10Speaker 11: going to turn around in one year. You said, you
- 1:07:13Speaker 11: believe in Gerard, you think he'll be better with more experience,
- 1:07:15Speaker 11: so why not let him get that experience here? Knowing
- 1:07:19Speaker 11: going in this was a multi year process.
- 1:07:25Speaker 8: Yeah, from my point of view, I just thought we
- 1:07:29Speaker 8: were We had a rough year last year, not twenty
- 1:07:34Speaker 8: four twenty three, and going through two years like that,
- 1:07:41Speaker 8: and then seeing where we were this year and especially
- 1:07:45Speaker 8: the second half of the year just told me, just
- 1:07:50Speaker 8: made me feel we weren't going in the direction, in
- 1:07:53Speaker 8: the right direction, and I can't. I don't want to
- 1:07:57Speaker 8: go through this next year, and we're going to do
- 1:08:00Speaker 8: what we got to do to fix.
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: It, which.
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: And now great moments in.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: History, the feeling that we had when Tom left. First,
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: the feeling that we have versus.
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: Is a versus versus you're a kid?
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: Yes, verse? Yeah? And what versus the feeling we have
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: now with Billy.
- 1:08:25Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: And I would say with Tom leaving, we were much
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: more sensitive about did he say goodbye? Does he say
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: he loves us? And with Bill not so much of that.
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I would say, I mean because he
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: never gave us that anyway.
- 1:08:40Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, it's a great.
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: Did get choked up when he talked about the fans?
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: So I know he did, But I'm just talking about fans,
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: like like, oh, is he gonna is he gonna say
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: goodbye to us? Is he gonna do this?
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: But that's my point is Bill did do that. That's
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: the part that he got emotional.
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: I feel a lot different about this one, Like like
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: I'm kind of like Evan was, Like, just the sight
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: of Brady in the Tampa uniform, it's just right.
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: Will you have the main feeling if you see Bill?
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: Think I will? I don't think. I don't think so either.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: So what was worse for you? Seeing Brady in the
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: Tampa all right? Or seeing him in the Patriots.
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: Which hates him anyway, You good, fall, Peter Brady distracted. Yeah,
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: you walked on your own jokes. That's another great moment. Hey,
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: you want to mix up things in the new year.
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: Bob's Discount Furniture has tons of endlessly customizable modular styles
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: like the brand new Posh sectional featuring a sleek elevated
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: design signature, Bibble Pedic memory Foam Comfort, super plush upholstery,
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: and count them, fourteen accent pillows included. Now that's versatile.
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: So stop in and stock up for the new year
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: at Bob's Discount Furniture, the official furniture store of the
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: New England Patriots.
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: That's almost enough pillows for my wife. She loves those
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: decoration pillows.
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: Yeah, those pillows are ridiculous, especially when they're on a bed.
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: You make the bed, you gotta put the pillows get
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: in the bed.
- 1:10:11Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm not a big fan of It's.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: Like, are we doing tours of the house, Like, why
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: is this important?
- 1:10:17Speaker 7: It's just just a show pillow person.
- 1:10:18Speaker 9: No, she's a blanket person, Like we have blankets, like,
- 1:10:22Speaker 9: you know, just does she get cold? Yeah, she's walked
- 1:10:25Speaker 9: around with a blanket all the time, all the time.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: Let her put the heat up.
- 1:10:30Speaker 9: No, it's not. I don't I she can do whatever
- 1:10:32Speaker 9: she wants, but for whatever reason. You know, when I
- 1:10:36Speaker 9: first met her, I that was like my one of
- 1:10:38Speaker 9: my first impressions of like some of her things. You
- 1:10:41Speaker 9: know that I was gonna have to get used to.
- 1:10:42Speaker 9: It is like you're just gonna have blankets all over
- 1:10:45Speaker 9: the house all the time.
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: The kids would complain, well, actually, TJ Will was fine.
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: Too cold?
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: Too cold? Could we put the heat? Layer it up?
- 1:10:56Speaker 7: Give it doesn't spend their heat until December one, and it's.
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: Been tough times in the Prolo house. Layer it up.
- 1:11:04Speaker 9: Should we share the little bit of news that we have.
- 1:11:08Speaker 9: So Tom Pelisaro has the Patriots interviewing Pep Hamilton and
- 1:11:13Speaker 9: Byron Leftwich today in person. So they if that is true,
- 1:11:17Speaker 9: I have no reason to believe it's not. They have
- 1:11:19Speaker 9: now fulfilled the Rooney rule and so they've checked that
- 1:11:22Speaker 9: box off and could move forward.
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: With all right, I believe we could have a head
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: coach by the end of this week. They alone next week.
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right, could happen.
- 1:11:30Speaker 9: All right, I'm going to play linebacker here.
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: Yeah. I just want to mention Bill Belichick's conference comments
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: yesterday about the shared vision. I guess he was.
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: He had it. Freddy had a shared vision with the
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: organization until for the last four years.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: Last four years. I somebody sent that to me. I said,
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: just substitute shared vision with Tom Brady.
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: What do you think changed in the last four years?
- 1:11:54Speaker 7: I think was it me getting here? That's that it?
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: Yeah, like you did you push him out?
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: Maybe?
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: So you had a shared vision in nineteen right, but
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: not twenty.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it's easy to have a shared vision when everything's
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: you're winning and all that stuff.
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: But so disingenuous.
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: I'd love to hear his side of the story. I mean,
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: I know that we talk about it all the time, of.
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: I'd love to hear the truth. Oh well, I don't
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: have any real interest in his side of the story.
- 1:12:17Speaker 6: But but but for somebody who so much went wrong,
- 1:12:20Speaker 6: like and how much, how could he explain it away
- 1:12:23Speaker 6: in a way that doesn't like this makes him It
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: wasn't my fault.
- 1:12:25Speaker 7: I didn't know it Like.
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: That's four explains it away? Yeah, because all of a sudden,
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: it's Robert and Jonathan Crafts fault that Tom Brady left
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: and they no longer allowed him to do it the
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: way he wanted to do that he convinces himself that
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: that's true.
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: Yeah, which was what we weren't doing as well. They
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: started asking me questions, so it's their fault.
- 1:12:47Speaker 9: Yeah, but I feel like they started asking questions about
- 1:12:51Speaker 9: the draft twenty and eighteen probably was. It was really
- 1:12:56Speaker 9: the start of the poor drafting and what was going on.
- 1:12:59Speaker 9: So it's even pre Brady and Brady saw it. Like
- 1:13:01Speaker 9: Brady saw that the roster was decaying and him and
- 1:13:04Speaker 9: Grokowski and Edelman and those players were getting older and
- 1:13:07Speaker 9: they didn't have the pipeline to start replace.
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: It's a lot of blame. I mean, there's a lot
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: of blame to go around, but there's not a lot
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: of looking in the mirror.
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: I love Evan's point though, I mean, I think that's
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: because you put it as like the demarcation line of
- 1:13:18Speaker 6: Brady leaving, like it was already like he should have
- 1:13:21Speaker 6: already kind of been under question by the time he
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: got to that.
- 1:13:23Speaker 9: The twenty eighteen Super Bowl is like their last dance, right,
- 1:13:26Speaker 9: Like they put it together for three more games and
- 1:13:30Speaker 9: Brady put them on their back for three three more
- 1:13:32Speaker 9: games and they won a Super Bowl.
- 1:13:34Speaker 7: That.
- 1:13:34Speaker 9: Frankly, they probably shouldn't have won, right, just in terms
- 1:13:37Speaker 9: of the season that they had. If you watch them
- 1:13:39Speaker 9: during the regular season in twenty eighteen, you already saw
- 1:13:42Speaker 9: that the team was getting worse they had.
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: It was a great combination of the greatness of Belichick
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: and Brady in the AFC Championship game. I thought it
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: was a brilliant plan. So I give Belichick a lot
- 1:13:54Speaker 5: of credit for that. Pacific people think that I'm always
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: crapping on Belichick. Not the case, like you watch that
- 1:14:00Speaker 5: game and he I think was solely responsible for them
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: having control of the game to start the second half
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: because Brady did not play great in the first half.
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: He had a huge pick in the end zone.
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: But then Kansas City adjusts their talent wins out. Now
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: we're hanging on Captain America to the rescue right when
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: you had to have them down the street in overtime.
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: He was perfect.
- 1:14:28Speaker 9: You're a big fan of die mod.
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: Magic, I'd have to know what that is.
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: What is it?
- 1:14:35Speaker 9: So die od magic is basically the call that they
- 1:14:37Speaker 9: used in the AFC Championship Game for most of the game.
- 1:14:40Speaker 9: So dime, that's the defensive package obviously odd man odd
- 1:14:45Speaker 9: front magic is what covers zero call with a double
- 1:14:49Speaker 9: on Tyreek Hill. So they played Manta man five man
- 1:14:52Speaker 9: rush up front, double team Tyreek Hill over the top,
- 1:14:56Speaker 9: and then they put a corner on Travis Kelcey instead
- 1:14:58Speaker 9: of a safety. It started as j C. Jackson and
- 1:15:01Speaker 9: then Stefan Gilmour started to cover uh tyre Travis Kelcey
- 1:15:05Speaker 9: a little bit towards the end and U and that
- 1:15:08Speaker 9: was the game they stole.
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: They stole just enough stops to get some separation and
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: then Kansas City figured it out and they started moving
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: the ball at will doing other things and ultimately came
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: down to really, you know, I don't think really yeah,
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: if you want to.
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: Get well, it came down to those third and fourth
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: down conversions.
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: Well, if the penalty doesn't happen the games, that's true
- 1:15:33Speaker 5: the off side that the guy doesn't line up off
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: who was it?
- 1:15:36Speaker 7: D Ford.
- 1:15:38Speaker 9: They also had a really cool wrinkle on defense. They
- 1:15:41Speaker 9: had a tell for Kansas City which way the line
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: was going to slide, you know, man side, slide side,
- 1:15:47Speaker 9: and so they would wrap the stunt up front opposite
- 1:15:51Speaker 9: of the slide, and they had a tail based off
- 1:15:53Speaker 9: of where Mahomes put the running back of which side
- 1:15:56Speaker 9: the slide was going to go to, and so they
- 1:15:58Speaker 9: would just wrap the free runner the other way, and
- 1:16:01Speaker 9: they were just getting pressure on them the whole first
- 1:16:03Speaker 9: half doing that. Then Kansas City caught on. But it
- 1:16:06Speaker 9: was pretty cool that.
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: The little game within the game, and Damian Williams was
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: a big part of that second half if I remember, Yeah, though,
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: oh yeah, that's their offense and that was like, you know,
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: that was both of those teams offenses.
- 1:16:22Speaker 8: Yea.
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: His picks, yeah.
- 1:16:24Speaker 5: You know, they rubs if they don't draw flags, right,
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: but they're absolutely illegal, no, I mean that's Sammy Watkin's
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: play at the end was an absolute pick for Kansas City.
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: All Right, pay podcast at Patriots dot Com is the
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: email address. David new Hampshire writes in I've heard a
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: lot of fans disliking the vrabel pick with possibly McDaniel's
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: oc due to changing up the system on May. Obviously,
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: Johnson is the hot new type pants guy, but I
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: think people forget he's also an Earhart Perkins guy like Josh.
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: Their schemes are different, of course, but for people worried
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: about changing systems on May, Johnson has the same problem, thoughts.
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: I don't have any objection to Josh McDaniels because it's
- 1:17:09Speaker 5: a change of the system. The system is changing. Yeah,
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: Alex Van Pelt's not gonna be the offensive coordinator next year.
- 1:17:15Speaker 9: I think there's also a big difference between talking about
- 1:17:19Speaker 9: the system and that respect. That's the language. So it's
- 1:17:23Speaker 9: the language that we're speaking in terms of Earnhard Perkins,
- 1:17:26Speaker 9: is the way that the verbiage of how you call
- 1:17:29Speaker 9: the plays. That doesn't mean that the design of the
- 1:17:31Speaker 9: offense is the same.
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: But I'll give the email a credit, like I wasn't
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: aware that Ben Johnson has his roots in Aarhart Perkins.
- 1:17:37Speaker 9: Technically yes, but you know, again, it's a big difference
- 1:17:41Speaker 9: between play design and how we call plays. How we
- 1:17:45Speaker 9: call plays is West Coast, ern Hard Perkins, air Quarriel.
- 1:17:48Speaker 9: How you design plays is a different category of how
- 1:17:52Speaker 9: you're gonna move the football offensively. So don't you know
- 1:17:55Speaker 9: ern Hard Perkins, West Coast? I think a lot of
- 1:17:57Speaker 9: people get caught up in that one. Really, it's the
- 1:18:00Speaker 9: scheme of are you an outside zone team, are you
- 1:18:02Speaker 9: a downhill run team, or you under center or you shotgun?
- 1:18:05Speaker 9: You know how do you formationally space the field?
- 1:18:07Speaker 7: Like?
- 1:18:08Speaker 9: Those are the things that separate all these offenses.
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: David Bethlehem McDaniels gets my vote for OC. Maybe would
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: be a great pairing with a defensive minded head coach,
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: the management would be balanced. How about asking the new
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: head coach who was ol coaches are and asking Dante
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: to interview them. While Wolf has been criticized, what exactly
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: has Heismith done? No one knows.
- 1:18:30Speaker 7: It's not always the case though.
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: There's a bunch of guys in the front office that
- 1:18:32Speaker 6: you don't know what people are always doing, like.
- 1:18:35Speaker 7: I mean, it's not even on the coaching staff too.
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: I mean you get the guys, you get to talk
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: to the coordinators, and you get even the defensive coaches.
- 1:18:41Speaker 6: But then we don't even see, you know, like some
- 1:18:43Speaker 6: of the guys.
- 1:18:43Speaker 5: Who are like the assistant So we haven't talked much
- 1:18:47Speaker 5: about personnel guys around the league. You know, there's a
- 1:18:51Speaker 5: lot of assistant gms that are going to be in
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: line to get GM jobs. My boy, Mike Bergonzi's one
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: of them from Everett. He's the assistant general manager of
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: the Chiefs. What does he do? I don't know, right,
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: How do you know, he's.
- 1:19:06Speaker 7: Likes in on the meetings.
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: I mean, he's part of a really successful organization that's
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: done a great job.
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: Of the acquiring talent or assistant to the GM.
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: And does he have any say?
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: You know what, I don't know exactly what is the
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: guy that is tied to vrabel a lot that we
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: talked about, Ryan Cowden. He's like whatever the executive isist
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: into Joe Shane. I don't know what he's doing. I
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: don't know, like if he's competent in his job.
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: And that's why though they're like if you were in
- 1:19:32Speaker 6: those meetings, you probably would know, like one of these
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: guys is really bright, you know, like like some of
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: these guys are just kind of there hanging out, but
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: other guys, you.
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: Know, assault of the earth.
- 1:19:42Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: Obviously his background is impeccable coming from every high school,
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: but you know, he is an Ivy League guy who
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: went to Brown, played football and baseball at Brown. And
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: you know, I do know the family a little bit,
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: great family, but that doesn't mean he's fit to be
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: an NFL executive.
- 1:19:56Speaker 9: Yeah, he from what I understand, and I could be
- 1:19:59Speaker 9: wrong about this, but he's Brown Ivy League guy. He's
- 1:20:02Speaker 9: more on the cap analytics side of things, which is
- 1:20:07Speaker 9: why he's been a very popular candidate, and Cowden variables
- 1:20:11Speaker 9: guy Shocker is more of the old school put.
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: Pats on and and watch the film and.
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: Barton Poland with Mayo Gun, it's time to hire an
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: offensive minded head coach. Defensive head coaches like Verbel show
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: the risks struggling to find and keep quality ocs. We
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: need someone young and innovative who can establish long term
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: offensive stability. Also, people don't want the risk of an
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: inexperienced head coach. If you ask me, most of the
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: top head coaches in the league right now are mostly
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: first time head coaches. Also preach Brad. Let's not compare
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: proven coordinators to draw Mayo who may have been the
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: least qualified resume wives coaching higher of the last decade.
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: Ben Johnson or Liam Cohen? What might be my two choices?
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: Johnson is self explanatory and Cohen was with his New
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: England roots you mass player Rood Allen, native but not
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: connected directly to the Patriots. Of course, do a proper search,
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: and if that search leads you to a guy like Rabel, okay,
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: But my preference would be an offensive head coach.
- 1:21:13Speaker 7: It's fair.
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: It's fair. I like the entirety of that email. Yeah,
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: if the search leads you to Vrabel and you really
- 1:21:20Speaker 5: think that he's the best candidate, now let's hire Mike
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: Rabel because I know he can coach. I know he
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: can coach.
- 1:21:26Speaker 6: Especially the comparison of MAO, which is just you have
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: to acknowledge that he wasn't a first time hand coach.
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: He was a first time coach, you know, period, like
- 1:21:32Speaker 6: most of these guys that are going to be first
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: time hand coaches have coached for a while.
- 1:21:36Speaker 9: Yeah. I agree with the point. I'm usually an offensive
- 1:21:38Speaker 9: minded guy, as everyone knows, and I agree that it's
- 1:21:41Speaker 9: hard as a defensive coach. But I do think there
- 1:21:44Speaker 9: is evidence that there are other elements to this that
- 1:21:47Speaker 9: are more important than just which side of the ball
- 1:21:49Speaker 9: do you call plays for, you know, the culture building,
- 1:21:52Speaker 9: the CEO elements. We certainly have seen how handling press
- 1:21:55Speaker 9: conferences and all that kind of stuff can be make
- 1:21:57Speaker 9: an impact, and those things I think matter a lot.
- 1:22:00Speaker 9: I think that's why Jim Harbaughs exceeding so much in
- 1:22:03Speaker 9: Los Angeles. He's not calling plays on either side of
- 1:22:06Speaker 9: the ball. He's just running the ship and running it.
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: Well.
- 1:22:09Speaker 6: I can I ask you guys a quick question. I'm
- 1:22:10Speaker 6: not I didn't track this. What was the trajectory of
- 1:22:13Speaker 6: Derek Henry coming into the NFL, because I know he
- 1:22:15Speaker 6: was what like a second round.
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: Fell comes back to Derek twenty sixteen.
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: Right, ye, kind of okay, twenty sixteen, twenty seventy. Look,
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: I just did a cursory research of his stats, just
- 1:22:24Speaker 6: trying to put together like what Rabel's team building process
- 1:22:26Speaker 6: kind of was. But Henry was already there when he arrived,
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: Like what what happened those first two years? He wasn't
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: like crazy Derrick Henry until well, like Rabel kind of
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: got there those couple of years.
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: If I'm not mistaken, I would have to look at
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: this up to get the actual bio. But I think
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: they were nine and seven the two previous years before Rabel,
- 1:22:43Speaker 5: and then they were nine and seven Rabel's first two years. Huh,
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: So I don't really think there was a.
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: Whole Henry was good right away.
- 1:22:50Speaker 6: That's what I was surprised that fred I looked at
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: like his prosional staffs. He wasn't well, it was like
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: eight hundred and seven eight hunreds first two years. I
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: don't know, I didn't go that deep. That's what I
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: was hoping you guys might know. I mean, that's just
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: I was starting to like look at Rabel's drafts, you know,
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: get a sense of what kind of guys they like
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: to take.
- 1:23:05Speaker 9: Well, so I think a big part of you know,
- 1:23:06Speaker 9: Derrick Henry was was an amazing college player at Alabama,
- 1:23:11Speaker 9: but there was always concerns about, you know, the type
- 1:23:14Speaker 9: of runner that he was, is he too kind of
- 1:23:16Speaker 9: old school, you know, he's going to be a downhill runner.
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: And thought that might be wear and tear. I think
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: he would have a long shelf life. And that's the
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: exact opposite.
- 1:23:23Speaker 9: I do remember, you know, those offenses, Mariota offenses, and
- 1:23:27Speaker 9: so they were they were trying to be more spread
- 1:23:29Speaker 9: and Oregon style and that kind of thing. And I
- 1:23:32Speaker 9: wonder when Rabel got there, he probably put the quarterback
- 1:23:35Speaker 9: under center, got there a big personnel.
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: And so his first year he played fifteen games, but
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: only started too. His second year he played sixteen games again,
- 1:23:44Speaker 5: only started to one hundred and ten attempts one hundred
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: and seventy six attempts. So at the time the day,
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: the average was four and a half, you know, full
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: point two, So it wasn't bad. And was it eighteen
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: Rabel's first year.
- 1:23:58Speaker 7: I think so. Yeah.
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: Yeah, So then he goes to twelve starts and goes
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: up to two hundred and fifteen carries, so you know
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: that's started feeding them. He started getting Fedd's.
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: The guy that did it. Wasn't they have that speedy
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: guy on the team Chris Johnson, Yeah, that would be.
- 1:24:14Speaker 5: That would be before that.
- 1:24:15Speaker 9: Was before that, before that, but not to CJ two
- 1:24:18Speaker 9: K Yeah, not like too far. Like I think they
- 1:24:20Speaker 9: actually passed the torch if I remember it correctly, like
- 1:24:22Speaker 9: I think, so they.
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: Had two two thousand yard rushers in short succession.
- 1:24:26Speaker 9: Huh yeah.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:24:27Speaker 9: I don't know exactly how big the gap was, but
- 1:24:29Speaker 9: I don't think it was big at all.
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: But I think you might have hit. Without looking at
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: this closely, I think Evan might hit it. Yeah, it
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: was probably just Mariota in a spread offense. That's really
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: not that. That's why I had my doubts about the Ravens.
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: One of my all time worst.
- 1:24:44Speaker 9: Calls right there with you.
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: So you think he'd have a hard time, So do
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: you give Rabel credit by coming in and saying, look,
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: we got Derrick Henry. We're gonna use it.
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: I mean, that's you know, that's what I was kind
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: of wondering. I don't know, I mean, I have to
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: do a little more research. But and I was looking
- 1:24:57Speaker 6: at that. I was looking at their drafts.
- 1:24:59Speaker 7: You know, they were drafts. They had a couple of
- 1:25:01Speaker 7: bad drafts.
- 1:25:02Speaker 9: They were fantastic play action passing team. And I would
- 1:25:06Speaker 9: say that Derrick Henry was one of those few backs
- 1:25:08Speaker 9: where when he was in the backfield, play action just worked.
- 1:25:11Speaker 9: You know, like everybody was afraid of him coming downhill.
- 1:25:14Speaker 9: And so much of Ryan Tannehill's statistics in that big
- 1:25:17Speaker 9: year that he had, we're off of play action. And
- 1:25:20Speaker 9: he kind of was a play action merchant for a
- 1:25:22Speaker 9: while there in Tennessee. And so that that was that
- 1:25:26Speaker 9: was it, you know, that was the offense. It was
- 1:25:28Speaker 9: Derrick Henry down your throats, play action pass and then
- 1:25:31Speaker 9: Derrick Henry late down your throats and milk the clock.
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: So that that year, Tannehill completed over seventy percent of
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: his passes, twenty two touchdown six picks, led the league
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: in yards per attempt, and his rating was one seventeen
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: point five. I think I said it was like one
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: seventeen point five. They totally led the league in that
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: as well. He only he only started ten games, like
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: he came in midway too. He replaced Mariota Riota, right,
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: and they just absolutely took off.
- 1:26:05Speaker 7: You know, was that Lafleur at that point?
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: Maybe I believe that was still Laflur. I believe so
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: because then they think he got the Green Bay job
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: in twenty.
- 1:26:13Speaker 9: Right, Yeah, and Arthur Smith was ends coach.
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: And then but the next year, Tannehill went eleven and
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: five and again completed over sixty five percent of his
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: passes thirty eight hundred and nineteen yards. So that's not
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: that's a sixteen game season, approaching four thousand yards, thirty
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: three touchdowns, seven picks. So I know, like the reason
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: I bring up Tannehill a lot with this is because
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: I think there's a lot of similarities between Drake May's
- 1:26:39Speaker 5: game in Tannehill. I think Drake May has more skill.
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: I think he can, I think he should be better
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: than Tannehill. But an athletic guy who can move around
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: and make throws on the run, uses legs occasionally, May
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: is a better passer, no question. In my mind, he's
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: a better passer. But I think there's some similarities there.
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: You better get we're good.
- 1:27:03Speaker 9: You better get him practicing. You said under center, you know,
- 1:27:08Speaker 9: hand your hand off fakes, you know, play action fakes.
- 1:27:11Speaker 9: That is one area of Drake's game where I thought
- 1:27:14Speaker 9: he needs some work on his selling play action, showing
- 1:27:17Speaker 9: the fake a little bit better. And now the sort
- 1:27:19Speaker 9: of things, the ball handling aspects of it. Do you
- 1:27:21Speaker 9: better If that's the type of offense you're going to run,
- 1:27:23Speaker 9: then he'd be doing that all summer.
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: I hear a lot of people talking about, like you know,
- 1:27:29Speaker 5: you know Rabel was able to do all this, that
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: and the other thing with Tannehill. Imagine like no, like
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: Tannehill was really good for him, Like I get that,
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: it was a lot of it was coaching, because I
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: don't think he's been He wasn't really good before that,
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: and he wasn't really good after that. Yeah, you know
- 1:27:45Speaker 5: once he lost Lafleura and Smith. So I get that,
- 1:27:50Speaker 5: but now I need to I need to know what
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: you plan.
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: On doing, John and Louisiana writes, and one thing that
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: Deuce was frustrated all season with was all my all
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: the my bads, and that's my fault. I got to
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: get better. I'm telling you right now, you barely got
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: one my bad or that's my fault before Rabel rips
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: a new one into you. And I'll say, that's one
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: thing I'd be excited for with Rabel coming in, the
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: authority and the seriousness he has with his personality and
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: the fact he knows what it takes to build a
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: good team from scratch. Ps. I secretly wouldn't mind Josh
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: McDaniels as the OC. It's a fine take.
- 1:28:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I wouldn't mind it either.
- 1:28:27Speaker 6: But I just like a lot of these decisions I'm
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: wondering because there's two sides of it.
- 1:28:30Speaker 7: There's like the just the pure football.
- 1:28:32Speaker 6: Analyst thought on it, and then there's the fanboy part
- 1:28:35Speaker 6: of me that likes Josh and likes Rabel and you
- 1:28:38Speaker 6: know knows this. Yeah, well I know that, you know.
- 1:28:40Speaker 6: I mean, aside from just that, like you guys know him.
- 1:28:44Speaker 6: I've talked to Josh a couple of times now, you know, Like,
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: so there's a relationship there. So that's appealing to me.
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: But you know, I don't want to get caught up.
- 1:28:50Speaker 6: I don't want to get caught up in I like
- 1:28:53Speaker 6: the guy. This is the best decision for the Patriots.
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: That's I think what they're gonna be asking themselves when
- 1:28:56Speaker 6: they interview Ben Johnson.
- 1:28:57Speaker 9: It is a departure, you know. We mentioned Laflora and
- 1:29:00Speaker 9: Arthur Smith are West Coast coaches, so the system is
- 1:29:03Speaker 9: a departure from what Rabel had in Tennessee. So I
- 1:29:06Speaker 9: wonder that too, if he's ready to kind of pivot
- 1:29:08Speaker 9: into a different, different way of doing things.
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: Eldred is in North Carolina, the tpx utline. What's up Eldred?
- 1:29:16Speaker 22: Hey, fellas not into truck today. I got COVID.
- 1:29:20Speaker 5: COVID all right, I got the COVID.
- 1:29:22Speaker 22: Yeah, I'm doing better. But y'all look good on you tube.
- 1:29:27Speaker 10: Like YouTube.
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: But me but.
- 1:29:36Speaker 22: I'm kind of disappointed. But I understand the change. But
- 1:29:41Speaker 22: you do the two years and mister Pepp, I love you,
- 1:29:43Speaker 22: but I think you did your boy dirty, you know.
- 1:29:46Speaker 22: And then the keeping wolf in the hospital, big mistake.
- 1:29:51Speaker 22: I'm like Paul clean House, and I hope we get
- 1:29:54Speaker 22: Ben Johnson.
- 1:29:54Speaker 12: I don't want Rablee.
- 1:29:56Speaker 22: We'll get Ben Jonson. Yeah, I have a good one, man.
- 1:29:58Speaker 22: I gotta go take to me.
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: Felt all right, Eldred weighing in, Ben Johnson, Let's see
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: Kevin is in San Francisco. Hey, Kevin, Hey guys, how
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: are we doing good?
- 1:30:12Speaker 7: Kevin?
- 1:30:14Speaker 10: A couple of things, you know.
- 1:30:15Speaker 23: When it when I heard the news on Sunday, obviously
- 1:30:19Speaker 23: everyone had their opinions on whether it's the right and
- 1:30:21Speaker 23: wrong thing, but it kind of dawned on me. Several
- 1:30:25Speaker 23: weeks ago we heard the chatter about the crafts calling
- 1:30:28Speaker 23: around and you know, getting opinions and talking to people
- 1:30:32Speaker 23: behind the scenes and whether or not that was, you know,
- 1:30:35Speaker 23: the right thing to do with the wrong thing, And
- 1:30:36Speaker 23: it kind of dawned on me. I wonder if they
- 1:30:38Speaker 23: were trying, you know, they were fed up with a
- 1:30:40Speaker 23: VP or for the coming hit, and just that we
- 1:30:43Speaker 23: have to get some better ocs and DC's around around Drod.
- 1:30:48Speaker 23: Now we know that's a tough call, because no one
- 1:30:50Speaker 23: wants to go to a dead man walking for one
- 1:30:52Speaker 23: year and then be cleaned out. But if they were
- 1:30:54Speaker 23: able to get somebody of higher quality, do you think
- 1:30:57Speaker 23: that might have saved Drod mail for one more year?
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: I mean maybe I do think that part of the
- 1:31:05Speaker 5: problem was the staff I don't think there was a
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: lot of experience on the staff, so yeah, I mean
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: that that could have possibly done it. But I think
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: that the bigger issues with Gerard were about what Robert
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: talked about yesterday and just I don't think he was
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: he was ready for it. To me, the much more
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: troubling part was the constant missteps off the field, both
- 1:31:28Speaker 5: from him and the players, which to me is an
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: extension of him, Like the lack of sort of control,
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: you know, the discipline was lacking.
- 1:31:36Speaker 9: Yeah, I come back to like the beginning with Gerrod
- 1:31:40Speaker 9: and just it never felt like he had like a
- 1:31:43Speaker 9: pipeline to tap into of where he was going to
- 1:31:46Speaker 9: hire these coaches from. And it most of these guys
- 1:31:50Speaker 9: that were new to the staff were connected to Elliott Wolfe.
- 1:31:53Speaker 9: Like it wasn't Gerrod who was the one that was
- 1:31:56Speaker 9: saying this is MYOC, this is my DC besides Covington,
- 1:31:59Speaker 9: so you know, Jerry Montgomery, Alex van Pelt, really the
- 1:32:03Speaker 9: whole offensive side of the ball, Jeremy Springer. Those guys
- 1:32:06Speaker 9: are wolf guys. And it just didn't feel like Gerard
- 1:32:10Speaker 9: was prepared to step into it with actual candidates that
- 1:32:15Speaker 9: fit the building of those positions.
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: Drew's in Connecticut. Hey Drew, I got.
- 1:32:22Speaker 22: How you doing today?
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: Good?
- 1:32:23Speaker 7: Good?
- 1:32:25Speaker 24: So I just wanted to ask a couple of things.
- 1:32:27Speaker 24: I wanted to get your guys' like opinion on, like
- 1:32:30Speaker 24: who realistic coordinators could be for offense and defense for
- 1:32:37Speaker 24: both Ben Johnson or Rabel. I personally like Rabel and
- 1:32:43Speaker 24: Ben Johnson. I'm honestly happy with either candidate. I just
- 1:32:46Speaker 24: kind of was curious.
- 1:32:47Speaker 25: Who they're like coordinators could be.
- 1:32:49Speaker 24: I know someone mentioned yesterday how you guys talked about
- 1:32:52Speaker 24: how well for incoming free agents, does the OC matter
- 1:32:57Speaker 24: if your head coach is Ben Johnson versus Rabel, And
- 1:33:00Speaker 24: like someone was like, if it's Ben Johnson, it doesn't,
- 1:33:03Speaker 24: but like if it's Rabel, the OC is super important
- 1:33:05Speaker 24: for incoming free agents as well. I also just want
- 1:33:09Speaker 24: to get your guys' opinion on last year's draft last
- 1:33:11Speaker 24: and how like you guys believe that like Polk and
- 1:33:14Speaker 24: Baker with better coaching and development could take like a
- 1:33:18Speaker 24: year or two jump that's big. The same thing for
- 1:33:21Speaker 24: like Kiden Wallace, I know he was injured, but like
- 1:33:24Speaker 24: could he become like a heap same thing with polkan
- 1:33:27Speaker 24: Baker kind of how they were to both do I know,
- 1:33:30Speaker 24: you don't really give up on guys after one year,
- 1:33:32Speaker 24: but like, do you think they could really make a
- 1:33:33Speaker 24: big year two jump if they got better coaching and developed?
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: Well, I don't know about it. Yeah, I don't know,
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: but it can't hurt to have better coaching.
- 1:33:41Speaker 5: No, let's go forward. Talked about the possibility of Josh
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: mc daniels going with Rabel, you know, to a lesser extent.
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: Tommy Reese is a name that's been tied to Rabel
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: offensive coordinator. I don't think any of us has a
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: guess on defensive coordinator, do we well?
- 1:33:56Speaker 9: So Shane Bowen was his defensive coordinator in Tennessee, but
- 1:33:59Speaker 9: he's currently the defensive coordinator for the Giants, and the
- 1:34:02Speaker 9: Giants didn't fire Dable, so I would assume that he's
- 1:34:05Speaker 9: staying put with the Giants. A couple names i'd throw
- 1:34:08Speaker 9: out there. Patrick Graham is a big one, I think
- 1:34:11Speaker 9: with the Raiders current.
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: He's gettings for head coaches right now.
- 1:34:15Speaker 9: Yeah, so he's not under contract. His contract expired with
- 1:34:20Speaker 9: the Raiders, so he is a technically a coaching free agent.
- 1:34:23Speaker 9: So he's a former Patriot defensive assistant and he has
- 1:34:28Speaker 9: some ties here. And lou Anna Murumo, who just got
- 1:34:31Speaker 9: fired by the Bengals, scapegoated by the Bengals for them
- 1:34:35Speaker 9: not making the playoffs is another uh. I would say,
- 1:34:39Speaker 9: not a direct tie to Belichick or the coaching tree
- 1:34:42Speaker 9: or anything, but runs a similar defense to what the
- 1:34:44Speaker 9: Patriots have ran over the past couple of years. So
- 1:34:48Speaker 9: I could see both those guys being No idea.
- 1:34:51Speaker 5: On Ben Johnson, I don't have any idea what his.
- 1:34:53Speaker 9: So he spent time with an Umo in Miami. They
- 1:34:56Speaker 9: were on the staff together with the Dolphins for a
- 1:34:59Speaker 9: little while, so there could be potentially a connection between
- 1:35:02Speaker 9: those two guys.
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: I know Salah is interviewing for head coach too, But
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: do you think you'd ever come back as a DC,
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: just you know, for a while. If he doesn't like
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: what's being offered or think.
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: That doesn't get it off, that's probably his his ticket
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: back in the league right now. Yeah, he'll be a
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: DC somewhere.
- 1:35:17Speaker 4: What about would you?
- 1:35:18Speaker 5: I would take be happy with that. I think he
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: runs a good defense.
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: I don't know how out.
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: I don't know how that was with you know, you
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: don't like.
- 1:35:26Speaker 9: The system stylistically, I just don't think it fits. Uh,
- 1:35:30Speaker 9: you know they they're there are zone defense. There are
- 1:35:34Speaker 9: four to three four man rush defense. You have to
- 1:35:37Speaker 9: have extremely athletic linebackers to play zone coverage the way
- 1:35:40Speaker 9: they want to play zone coverage. You're obviously going to
- 1:35:44Speaker 9: go through a significant personnel overhaul anyways, but that's you have.
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: You need a whole talk to build that defense.
- 1:35:50Speaker 9: It's it. I think you can build it, but you
- 1:35:52Speaker 9: would need to.
- 1:35:52Speaker 7: Build You're way far away from it.
- 1:35:54Speaker 9: Yeah, like you're not Jewan Bentley and Jolanny dev A
- 1:35:57Speaker 9: not playing linebacker and that defense you know, no good
- 1:36:00Speaker 9: place Fred Warner and j mod and you could They'll
- 1:36:05Speaker 9: get Dre Greenlow maybe.
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: Yes, uh Sam and Saint Catharine's right. Sint Derek Henry
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: was a slow start because Lafleur is one of those
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: committee no matter what coaches when it comes to running backs.
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: So he was spelling Henry with Dion Lewis a lot,
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: which slowed his development.
- 1:36:21Speaker 7: Real friend, deal Lewis, excuse me.
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: What is Josh Jacobs split with?
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: Huh?
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: What is Josh Jacobs split time with?
- 1:36:29Speaker 23: Now?
- 1:36:30Speaker 7: Oh god, with the floor.
- 1:36:32Speaker 9: They do have that a backup, but he's like an
- 1:36:34Speaker 9: undrafted rookie changed.
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think that there's probably more about
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: the offense, especially if you're telling me it was Deon Lewis,
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: because Dion Lewis is that kind of back. Yeah, he's
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: a spread back.
- 1:36:47Speaker 6: He was exciting for a little bit, like just intriguing.
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: I know, big injury, but was he did he like
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: because he came out of nowhere. He's one of those
- 1:36:53Speaker 6: guys that you probably dismissive of because he kicked around
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: the league. But remember that like carry had in Dallas
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: where like six guys missed him.
- 1:37:00Speaker 9: Like that had a little run against Houston that he
- 1:37:02Speaker 9: had like three touchdowns. Yeah, very different return and rushing.
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: Yeah, he was. He was a really productive guy for
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: the Patriots for seven times.
- 1:37:13Speaker 9: That twenty fifteen season. He was unreal and till he
- 1:37:16Speaker 9: got hurt.
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: I mean he was that Dallas.
- 1:37:18Speaker 7: That's crazy.
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: That was a huge, huge injury. And you know, I
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: Laflour's you know, I know that he did split time
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: with like Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. I want to say,
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: but like again, like if you have one guy like
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: I think he's showing you now, if you have a
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: guy with Josh Jacobs. I mean, I don't have the Packers'
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: stats in front of me, but I have to think
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: that he got the lion's share of the band this year. Yeah,
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: And I would think that Derek Henry would have been
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: that kind of guy. Maybe it was just as simple
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: as he was just a rookie and it's you know,
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: it took him a couple of years. But I think
- 1:37:53Speaker 5: Evan is right on with the style of offense that
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: they were likely running at the time is probably not
- 1:37:59Speaker 5: conducive to a power guy.
- 1:38:01Speaker 9: Yeah, just go to the receivers real quick. With Polk
- 1:38:04Speaker 9: and Baker. So is there a chance that they could
- 1:38:08Speaker 9: have like a Kaishaan Boody second season. I'm not rolling
- 1:38:11Speaker 9: that out, but you just don't see it too often
- 1:38:14Speaker 9: anymore where they have a complete dud of a rookie
- 1:38:17Speaker 9: season and then all of a sudden that guy turns
- 1:38:19Speaker 9: into like a legitimate impact player in the NFL, especially
- 1:38:23Speaker 9: at that position. Like I would be absolutely shocked at
- 1:38:25Speaker 9: this point if Jalen Polk is an NFL player on
- 1:38:28Speaker 9: this team in like two or three years.
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: I would say even more so with Baker.
- 1:38:31Speaker 6: I definitely, yeah, that one is yeah, because.
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: I think Baker's problems are far more than ability. I
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: just think he looks like he doesn't have the professionalism.
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: That's what the coaches talked about. This is not me
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: saying this. The coaches have made many references to this
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: over the course of the year. Just not doing what
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: he's supposed to be doing at practice.
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: Well, that's more of an indictment on Wolf and Mark
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: and Schaeddow writes in having rewatched the Craft press conference,
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: I think it's clear that Wolf is staying. The first
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: question was talking about the new coach having a say
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: on players, and we'll be up to him personnel to
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: yeah otherwise. I think Craft was very clear he needs
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: people that can work together and that means working with
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: Wolf will be staying. Why does everyone else seem to
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: think that the new coach will have a say on
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: Wolf staying or going? What am I missing? I hear
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: what you're saying, because Paul and I went over the
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: transcript this morning because we were we wanted to make
- 1:39:30Speaker 4: sure that we remembered correctly, and the follow up with
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: Karen Garigian. In my opinion, Kraft was clear that Wolf
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: would be staying on. But I think and just a
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: guess through back channels, and Phil Perry was the mouthpiece
- 1:39:48Speaker 4: for this. Perry's story today was whoever the head coach
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: come that comes in and gets the job, he will
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: have a say on who his personnel person is. So
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: if it's Mike Rabel and he wants a new guy,
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: he's going to get a new guy. If it's Mike
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: Rabel and he wants to keep Elliott Wolf, he's going
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: to keep Elliott Wolf. But the you know, if it's
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: you know, Ben Johnson or Mike Rabel, they have the
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: leverage and uh, not giving them their personal guy is
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: not going to be why uh they don't come here.
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: They're gonna get what they want.
- 1:40:28Speaker 7: They had to get that out there. I mean, I
- 1:40:29Speaker 7: think that's key. Yeah, you know, we said, you just
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: don't want to lose the guys. You know, Yeah, there
- 1:40:33Speaker 7: is competitions, and I.
- 1:40:34Speaker 5: Think I think they will be back. I just don't
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: know in what capacity if the new coach, to Fred's point,
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: wants his own GMS.
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: And it's a tough question for Robert or anybody fielding.
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: You know, you're in the middle of getting ready for
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: the draft and off season. You're not gonna stand up
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: there and say, yeah, are guys gone. Yeah, you know,
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: you don't know. You don't know. You're first of all,
- 1:40:53Speaker 4: you don't know who you're gonna hire, and you don't
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: know whoever that person is what they want, So you
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: have to be open to that. They, like I said,
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: that person might come in and say, yeah, Elliott Wolf,
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: I know about him, He's got a good reputation. I've
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: talked to people before I got here about him. Let's
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: keep him on Cleveland for the past year.
- 1:41:12Speaker 9: Yeah, a lot of people are pretty familiar with the guys, right.
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: Let's let's keep him on that. That could perfectly, that
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: could happen. Yeah, So for you know, I think Robert
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: Kraft was just kind of even things open. But I
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: think in that last answer, I thought he was saying
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: he's gonna stay on regardless. Yeah.
- 1:41:32Speaker 7: I thought was pretty good on this yesterday.
- 1:41:34Speaker 6: I was just saying, like, you can't fire everybody and
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: make everybody walk out of the building.
- 1:41:38Speaker 7: You want, like, you have to keep people. It's very
- 1:41:40Speaker 7: common for theft.
- 1:41:42Speaker 4: He was reason it's very common for teams in our
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: position to keep their personnel people on through the draft
- 1:41:49Speaker 4: because they've done all the work. They're gonna be professionals.
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: You don't have to worry about them leaking it out
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: who were interested in drafting. They're going to do their
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: job regardless, and then after the draft you make your decisions.
- 1:42:03Speaker 4: But again, whoever they decide on being the head coach,
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: that person's going to have what they want. Let's see
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: Camel from Georgia is there? He says, Is there any
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: coaches you want to keep? Coaches you want to keep?
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: Not me?
- 1:42:20Speaker 9: No?
- 1:42:23Speaker 4: Okay, cornerbacks coach, yep.
- 1:42:25Speaker 9: I think he does a really good job. I wouldn't
- 1:42:29Speaker 9: be totally opposed to some of the special teams coordinator coaches.
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: Springer seems to have done a pretty good job.
- 1:42:37Speaker 9: Tom Quinn I think is getting a lot of credit
- 1:42:39Speaker 9: as well in that room, and he's a long time
- 1:42:42Speaker 9: experienced special teams guy. But I don't have any I'm
- 1:42:45Speaker 9: not going to bad for anybody. But if I had to.
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: Go, can I just say, I'm not going to come
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: on here and pull a Tampa tantrum. If you know
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: there's a couple of guys that come back. I just
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: look at it as I don't really think any element
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: of the team was very good last year. I have
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: no problem if they all go, That's that's all I'm saying.
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: If they come back, if the guys that Evan and Mike.
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: Like, well, we're definitely going to need a new strength
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: and conditioning coordinator.
- 1:43:10Speaker 9: Why is that friend?
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: Well, it happens to be one's head coach's brother.
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: What's the difference between the head coaches brother coming back
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: and the head coach's son's coming back?
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: You know, stranger things are happening already.
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: But in all seriousness, like I know that darn Harmon
- 1:43:26Speaker 5: Mayo is going to go. Was called him Harmon? Like
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: Brian Belichick came back and his father got fired.
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: Yeah, so well the guy never the guy that was
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: Doran's uh, Deron Mayo's assistant Brian McDonough. H. He's been
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: associated with the team for a long time, he might stays,
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: he's very good.
- 1:43:45Speaker 5: I associated with the team for a long time.
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: Oh yeah, not on staff. But he was a guy
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: who worked out guys in the off season a VP.
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: Is that why you know him? Like you know high
- 1:43:56Speaker 5: level meetings that you know?
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: I know him from? I know him from other do
- 1:44:00Speaker 4: you work you out? Might have been a family member?
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: See, you never know when you pull a thread what
- 1:44:07Speaker 5: you're gonna find?
- 1:44:08Speaker 4: Uh, with the draft and the Patriots having so many holes,
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: I'm fine with drafting anyone at pick four that fills
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: a hole. What do you guys think? Yeah, sure, sure,
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: there we go. And what do you do with the
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: kicker position? Do you draft one or sign one?
- 1:44:22Speaker 5: Do not draft one?
- 1:44:23Speaker 7: Please?
- 1:44:24Speaker 6: I try to get Sly back, and they already brought
- 1:44:26Speaker 6: back Parker Romo. They signed him to a future contract.
- 1:44:29Speaker 6: He was on the practice squad. So I mean, i'd
- 1:44:31Speaker 6: like to.
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: You know, you have seven names of the guys they
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: signed it.
- 1:44:34Speaker 6: Not off the top of my not off the top
- 1:44:35Speaker 6: of my head, but I can tell you if you
- 1:44:36Speaker 6: give me a second.
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: Well, while you're doing that, I think we might have
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: already mentioned this. Tom Peliasaro is reporting that the Bengals
- 1:44:43Speaker 4: are interviewing or planned to interview, DeMarcus Covington.
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: I don't think we said it on the air for
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: their DC job.
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel caught with Pelisaro's a good source.
- 1:44:52Speaker 9: Yeah, DeMarcus Covington was on the right track. You almost
- 1:44:56Speaker 9: feel bad for him because he was he was headed
- 1:44:58Speaker 9: in a head coaching direction. Many people thought he was
- 1:45:01Speaker 9: on Tom Pelliser's list of future head coaching candidates earlier
- 1:45:05Speaker 9: this season. Then obviously what's happens happened, so him catching
- 1:45:09Speaker 9: on someplace else at that level would not be all
- 1:45:12Speaker 9: that surprising.
- 1:45:13Speaker 7: Yeah, you're ready for this list, Paul.
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: This is Uh, let's see if I was gonna make
- 1:45:17Speaker 6: up some names to see if I could get you.
- 1:45:18Speaker 6: I want you that though.
- 1:45:19Speaker 7: Caleb Jones.
- 1:45:22Speaker 5: From Caleb Jones, John Giles.
- 1:45:25Speaker 7: John Giles, you got the kicker that you are?
- 1:45:29Speaker 23: Yeah?
- 1:45:32Speaker 5: How about the kick thirty five guy? My guy? Is
- 1:45:34Speaker 5: he one? They don't have to do it because he
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: was on the roster.
- 1:45:37Speaker 6: Yeah, he might be under contract though, because they signed
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: him up to the promote him.
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:45:44Speaker 7: Mark Perry safety didn't see much of him. Uh.
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: Marcus Harris, another defensive lineman, never really saw him.
- 1:45:52Speaker 23: Uh.
- 1:45:53Speaker 7: I think that's about it. Yeah, maybe missed one, but
- 1:45:56Speaker 7: futures contracts, Giles Jones.
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: Something just popped up on the Sports Boston uh show,
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: Albert Breer's coming. This is his opinion that if the
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: Patriots don't go through a thorough search, you know, it's
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: going to be a really bad look for them, you know,
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: based on what's happened. But here's the problem.
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: Who's who decides where the thorough search.
- 1:46:22Speaker 4: Who's well that? But here's the problem, Like, if the
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: main two candidates are two guys right now, like they're
- 1:46:30Speaker 4: the hot ones and you want one of them, don't
- 1:46:33Speaker 4: you have to move fast because there's a lot of suitors, right,
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: I mean, like we don't have I don't know if
- 1:46:38Speaker 4: they have the luxury.
- 1:46:40Speaker 6: Of rolling out fifteen guys over the next three weeks if.
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: They want one of those two.
- 1:46:45Speaker 5: Guys, so that it's not a thorough search, right.
- 1:46:48Speaker 4: But but it could be out of necessity that they
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: have to move fast. But it's what I'm saying.
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: But if you're having a thorough search, you don't know
- 1:46:55Speaker 5: that you have to move fast. What do you mean
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: if you don't know who the coach is and you're
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: going to interview, say ten guys, there's no need to
- 1:47:04Speaker 5: Why would I know I have to move.
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: Fast because you want one of those two guys?
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: Correct, So it's not a thorough search, okay, because you
- 1:47:11Speaker 5: know which one you want already.
- 1:47:12Speaker 4: But I think the consensus of everyone is those are
- 1:47:15Speaker 4: the two best candidates, So don't you want one of
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: the two best candidates.
- 1:47:20Speaker 5: There's not the consensus of me, I have no idea
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: who's available. I don't know what these guys. Well, I
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: don't want Byron Leftwich. No, he's been out of football
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: for two years. I'm going to guess no.
- 1:47:31Speaker 9: But like, no of all that, No, seriously.
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: When a better candidate. I have no idea, right.
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: So I'm just saying all these names out there, like
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: it seems like people in the know say that the
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: two top the two prizes of this.
- 1:47:47Speaker 5: But don't you think that's because they know that those
- 1:47:48Speaker 5: are the only two guys I don't know, And I'm sorry, Well.
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't I don't know what other guys.
- 1:47:55Speaker 4: I don't I don't know any of these other guys.
- 1:47:58Speaker 4: I'm just basing it off there.
- 1:48:00Speaker 9: You're right. I mean Ben Johnson's been at the top
- 1:48:03Speaker 9: of the list for three cycles now this is the
- 1:48:05Speaker 9: third cycle that he is a top name in the
- 1:48:07Speaker 9: coaching cycle.
- 1:48:08Speaker 5: And you wouldn't have to go fast for him. You
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: got me, You get all the time in your world
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: do you want for him? He's going to be in
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: the playoffs for a while. Yeah, you can't hire him.
- 1:48:18Speaker 9: Not until the end.
- 1:48:20Speaker 4: Well, you're interviewing him, right, you can interview you can't
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: make him an offer, sure, but you can't sign him. No,
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: but you can make them you know, you can make
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: it a handshake deal. No rush, this is what you're
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: talking about.
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: No rush, there's no rush. You can't sign with anybody.
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: He can't. But he can agree to a deal.
- 1:48:36Speaker 5: You always just tell me, you know, don't take don't
- 1:48:39Speaker 5: agree to any deals. When you're done with the play.
- 1:48:41Speaker 5: We want to respect for you. I want you to
- 1:48:44Speaker 5: put your best foot forward for the Detroit Lions. You
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: work for the Detroit Lions. But give us an opportunity
- 1:48:48Speaker 5: to meet with you again when when your season's over.
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: Okay, what if another team during this cycle says, here's
- 1:48:55Speaker 4: the deal we will offer you. We would like a
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: yes or no.
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: Now, you got to make sure that he doesn't do that.
- 1:49:02Speaker 4: I know, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: So then you're not having research. That's all I'm saying. No,
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: if identified two guys, you're right, and if you ask me,
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: they've identified one. I couldn't make it myself, but i'm not.
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: I failed like I only made it one more minute.
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: You're right, you're right. You're you're saying that we want
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: one of these two guys But what I'm asking is,
- 1:49:22Speaker 4: are there anybody that the good as those two guys?
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: I think that you know his name?
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: Yeah, if you if you let these two guys go
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: and you don't get them, are you failing.
- 1:49:33Speaker 9: I think there's I think there's one other guy that
- 1:49:38Speaker 9: there's complications, So I don't know if it's a true candidate,
- 1:49:41Speaker 9: But Brian Flores is the only other guy that I
- 1:49:43Speaker 9: think is in the category with those two. If you
- 1:49:45Speaker 9: throw out the lawsuit against the league, which is a
- 1:49:47Speaker 9: big thing to just throw out, but just on merit,
- 1:49:51Speaker 9: it to me it's a two and a half horse
- 1:49:53Speaker 9: race just on marriage. I know you're able, John's I
- 1:49:55Speaker 9: get your.
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: Point for it. I just I just feel like I
- 1:50:00Speaker 5: I push back a little bit that they're really interested
- 1:50:02Speaker 5: in anybody other than No, but the guys that you.
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: Think about these guys as free agents, you know, like
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: if and these are wide receivers, if the two top
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: wide receivers are out there and you're you know, taking
- 1:50:14Speaker 4: your time, you're going to miss out on the two
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: best wide receivers.
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's not apples to apples because you don't
- 1:50:19Speaker 5: have to wait until the season's over to sign a
- 1:50:22Speaker 5: wide receiver like that you have to wait to free agency.
- 1:50:25Speaker 5: Everybody starts in the same spot.
- 1:50:27Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: Like, so that's but.
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: If you don't act quickly, you lose out.
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, so I know the Patriots lost out when
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: they signed Bill Belichick, but they waited until February to
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: do it and won six Super Bowls.
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: Well, they had to give up a first round pick
- 1:50:39Speaker 4: to do that. That wasn't apples to apples.
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: It's not. But what I'm saying is, let's not equate
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: waiting with failing, because it doesn't mean that you failed.
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: If you take a little time to make the.
- 1:50:52Speaker 4: Right you fail to get the one of the two
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: best guys.
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: No, you failed to get one of the two guys
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: that you've identified.
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: Everybody's identified, doesn't right, I know, but it.
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: Just seems as I believe that there's only two candidates.
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: But Paul, it just seems to be such a consensus
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: among everybody.
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: Because they know who the Patriots are interested in. That's
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: the consensus, friend.
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: No consensus among the league that these are the two
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: prizes of this cycle.
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: Listen, Ben Johnson, as Evan just said, has been at
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: the top of this carouself for a while.
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: And only because he didn't want to get into the pool.
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: Is he not a head coach? Right?
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: But people are talking about this because those are the
- 1:51:33Speaker 5: two guys that are tied, right. They're not talking about,
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: you know, Joe Brady, who's also getting interviews laughing, right,
- 1:51:39Speaker 5: How do you know he's not better than all of them?
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: I don't know that, and neither and will.
- 1:51:43Speaker 5: Never know because we're not interested. Well, we're interested in
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: the two that we've identified because the media is telling
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: us these are the two guys. It's that media, not
- 1:51:52Speaker 5: the Patriots. I'm talking about us, Like we've identified these
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: two us.
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: Oh yeah, certainly. I have no idea.
- 1:51:59Speaker 5: Now listen, I said at the start of the show,
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: and I'll say it now too, Like if it's Mike Rabel,
- 1:52:04Speaker 5: I love Mike Rabel, I think he's a really good coach. Like,
- 1:52:07Speaker 5: I don't want this to be coming off like I'm
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: going to be disappointed Mike, and I certainly won't be disappointed.
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: If it's the next sort of you know, new fangled
- 1:52:17Speaker 5: offensive mastermind in Ben Johnson, that's not going to disappoint
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: me either.
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: But all I'm saying is, while we're being thorough, these
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: two guys are going to get job.
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: I like these two guys, and if they get one
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: of those two guys, I think you probably would look
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: at a success. But I don't really think that you're
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: conducting a wide search.
- 1:52:33Speaker 4: That's all could be.
- 1:52:34Speaker 9: And maybe this does change, but I just think that
- 1:52:38Speaker 9: to see today Pep Hamilton and Byron Lefwich getting in
- 1:52:42Speaker 9: person interviews as coaching free agents, it just it just doesn't.
- 1:52:47Speaker 9: It rose me the wrong way.
- 1:52:49Speaker 4: Well, that's all I mean.
- 1:52:50Speaker 9: Yeah, And so now we're just gonna like I just
- 1:52:55Speaker 9: I want to know in the press conference is because
- 1:52:56Speaker 9: this is like we're getting to the point where this
- 1:52:59Speaker 9: thing is obviously already been been wrapped up.
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: And that's I guess That's all I'm saying is I
- 1:53:05Speaker 5: wish that we were interviewing more people, interested in more people.
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: I wish there were more people to interview.
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: And there's a ton of people to interview.
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: I mean, like top quality guys.
- 1:53:16Speaker 5: I think there were a ton of people to interview.
- 1:53:18Speaker 9: Really yeah, I think if you look at the lists,
- 1:53:21Speaker 9: you know, if they were interviewing I don't need it
- 1:53:23Speaker 9: to be fifteen guys, but if they were interviewing Rabel
- 1:53:28Speaker 9: Johnson Brady, Aaron Glenn, Brian Flores like those.
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: Liam Cohen, those are the top guys.
- 1:53:35Speaker 9: So if you interview five, four or five six of
- 1:53:38Speaker 9: those guys, then that's a legitimate search and it.
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: Could still come back to and I would agree with you.
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: Rabel and Johnson, those are the two top ones. Like
- 1:53:47Speaker 5: I don't let's push what happens. I'm not pushing back
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: on that at all.
- 1:53:51Speaker 4: I mean about these two guys today, but I don't
- 1:53:53Speaker 4: know who the rest of the week they're gonna interview.
- 1:53:55Speaker 5: Yeah, and then I'll we'll have a show on Thursday,
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: and you know, maybe they've interviewed four other guys and
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: I'm like, this is That's all I wanted to thank you.
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: This is exactly what I was hoping for.
- 1:54:05Speaker 4: I've seen other teams, like you know, go on social
- 1:54:08Speaker 4: media and list the interviews they have lined up. We
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: haven't done that or won't do that. I don't know, but.
- 1:54:14Speaker 5: That'd be great. But if they teams are moving fast,
- 1:54:17Speaker 5: you know, like if that happens, I'd be I'd really
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: be happy about that. And then again it can be Rabel.
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: I'm fine with that.
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go to Ian and Raleigh North Carolina. What's up? Ian?
- 1:54:28Speaker 5: Hi?
- 1:54:29Speaker 26: How are you guys?
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: Good? Hello?
- 1:54:31Speaker 26: I just wanted to call because you know, I've been
- 1:54:33Speaker 26: talking with a lot of my friends here actually in
- 1:54:35Speaker 26: North Carolina about the Patriots head coach and search and
- 1:54:37Speaker 26: everything like that. Kind of what we determined was, I
- 1:54:40Speaker 26: hope that the fans can understand that while I don't
- 1:54:44Speaker 26: always agree with it, Mike Grabile was fired from Tennessee,
- 1:54:48Speaker 26: and I think he's a great head coach and I
- 1:54:49Speaker 26: would be happy with him, and the same thing with
- 1:54:51Speaker 26: it Jonathan. He's never head coached like anywhere before. So
- 1:54:56Speaker 26: I just worry that, you know, these things take time,
- 1:54:58Speaker 26: that one of these guys is going to get in
- 1:55:00Speaker 26: here and it's not going as well as fans hoped
- 1:55:02Speaker 26: it would early, and that we don't give up like
- 1:55:06Speaker 26: a year in, we're doing this again. I just hope
- 1:55:08Speaker 26: like fans can understand that Ben Johnson many a little
- 1:55:11Speaker 26: time once gets in to be a head coach.
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: Well, Ian, I hear what you're saying, and I hope
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: I agree with you. But what if it looks as
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: bad or worse than Gerard's first year? What do you do?
- 1:55:22Speaker 5: I pulled a plug?
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: Yeah, Well that's the thing. That's the thing I.
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: Pulled the plug, right.
- 1:55:31Speaker 9: I don't think there's any chance of that happening.
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: Well, then I agree.
- 1:55:34Speaker 4: I don't think it can't make a blanket statement that
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: you always need to give a person time, not when
- 1:55:43Speaker 4: it's a complete because it was.
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: He didn't get fired because they went four and thirteen.
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: Right. It's just extremely But I agree with Ian. You
- 1:55:49Speaker 4: hope that whoever it is shows enough promise that you're
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: giving them time.
- 1:55:55Speaker 9: There's no doubt that the personnel side of it is
- 1:55:57Speaker 9: going to have to catch up. But it just is
- 1:55:59Speaker 9: really encouraging to me that Ben Johnson has held his
- 1:56:03Speaker 9: water for as long as he has. Give you another example,
- 1:56:06Speaker 9: like Tamiko Ryans did the same thing. Demiko Ryans could
- 1:56:09Speaker 9: have been a head coach two years earlier than what
- 1:56:11Speaker 9: he ended up being in Houston because he said, I'm
- 1:56:13Speaker 9: going to learn. I'm going to be patient, I'm going
- 1:56:15Speaker 9: to wait for the right job. I'm going to learn
- 1:56:17Speaker 9: the tricks of the trade. I'm going to be ready
- 1:56:20Speaker 9: when my opportunity comes. I'm going to be ready. And
- 1:56:23Speaker 9: that's exactly what Ben Johnson has done. And so I
- 1:56:26Speaker 9: just can't imagine that he's finally going to make the
- 1:56:28Speaker 9: leap and be an epic disaster. He's got too much training.
- 1:56:31Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go to Boston Cream. What's up Boston Cream?
- 1:56:36Speaker 25: Hey guys, I feel like I'm the last collar here.
- 1:56:38Speaker 25: I'm like the hammer and curling or like the closer.
- 1:56:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:56:42Speaker 25: Uh quick question for Evan.
- 1:56:44Speaker 7: Have you washed?
- 1:56:45Speaker 25: I have you watched Josh Simmons? And what do you think?
- 1:56:49Speaker 9: I have watched Josh Simmons?
- 1:56:50Speaker 25: Yes, what do you think?
- 1:56:53Speaker 9: It's a it's a it's a tough one with context
- 1:56:56Speaker 9: that I don't know if we have four minutes for.
- 1:56:58Speaker 9: But you know, he was very, very good against bad competition,
- 1:57:01Speaker 9: so we never got to see him against the top
- 1:57:04Speaker 9: level competition on Ohio State schedule. So that's the catch is.
- 1:57:07Speaker 9: You know, when he's playing Iowa and Michigan State and
- 1:57:10Speaker 9: you know whatever, you know, Western Michigan and all these schools,
- 1:57:13Speaker 9: he looked dominant. But would he have done the same
- 1:57:16Speaker 9: against you know, Michigan, Oregon, you know the college football playoff?
- 1:57:21Speaker 9: Now we don't know he got hurt.
- 1:57:25Speaker 25: That's very fair.
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: I feel like, can you fill me in on Hua.
- 1:57:28Speaker 5: He's a twenty twenty three version of college tackles yeah.
- 1:57:33Speaker 7: Version.
- 1:57:33Speaker 9: He was Ohio State's left tackle and he's got all
- 1:57:37Speaker 9: of the tools, you know, long, athletic, explosive, great blocker.
- 1:57:42Speaker 9: But he got hurt after five games this year, blew
- 1:57:45Speaker 9: out his knee towards a cluh pretty severe injury, and
- 1:57:48Speaker 9: so he did get to the meat of Ohio State schedule,
- 1:57:51Speaker 9: so he didn't actually play the tough opponents this year.
- 1:57:54Speaker 9: So he dominated bad competition in the year.
- 1:57:58Speaker 7: Right, that wasn't very bostible creamy.
- 1:58:01Speaker 5: Yeah, like a real football question, but he's very cerebral.
- 1:58:04Speaker 7: What are we doing well?
- 1:58:06Speaker 25: And my next question is, how come no one's talking
- 1:58:08Speaker 25: about urban Meyer?
- 1:58:10Speaker 5: There you go, you go, Okay, way to bring Now
- 1:58:12Speaker 5: you really are the closer. Good job, Boston.
- 1:58:15Speaker 9: There are some college coaches in the cycle, not Urban Meyer.
- 1:58:18Speaker 4: Well, what about Steve Sarkisian.
- 1:58:20Speaker 9: I love that idea, but it's not going to happen.
- 1:58:22Speaker 4: Why coach?
- 1:58:23Speaker 9: I just don't think they'll do that because you know,
- 1:58:26Speaker 9: there's obviously a stigma against hiring college coaches like him.
- 1:58:29Speaker 9: I love Steven, but he has NFL experience. He has
- 1:58:32Speaker 9: NFL experience. That's that's the difference. If he's coordinated at
- 1:58:36Speaker 9: the NFL level successfully with Atlanta. But he's yeah, he's
- 1:58:40Speaker 9: one of the best offensive minds at any level of football,
- 1:58:43Speaker 9: but he's a college coach.
- 1:58:45Speaker 4: Okay, all right, well listen. That's it for this edition
