- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Divas That Care, a network of women committed to making our world a better place for everyone.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: This is a global movement for women, by women, engaged in a collaborative effort to create a better world for future generations.

- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Right now though, stay tuned for another jolt of inspiration.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: One just has to pick up a magazine or turn on a television to see that we, as women, are bombarded daily with media images of female physical perfection, leaving us with the most unrealistic of expectations as to how we should look.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: No wonder female body confidence is falling while incidents of eating disorders are on the rise.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: What's most alarming is the way this affects young girls.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: A reduced sense of self-worth can create anxiety, stress, even depression, causing relationship issues while potentially impairing academic and job performance.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: In direct contrast, Confidence in Bloom is designed to send the opposite message to any woman of any age, shape, or background who has ever felt inadequate, unworthy, or tossed aside because of how she looks.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: You matter.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: You are enough now.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: I, Tina Follettini, a woman of substance, insist that women deserve to be happy, confident, successful, not to mention so totally in love with themselves in their own bodies just the way they are.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Through an ongoing series of intriguing conversations with women from all walks of life who are all extraordinary in their own right, I will take us on a journey of ultimate self-acceptance and empowerment.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Together, we'll share the stories, laughs, Learn, maybe even shed a few tears when you realize how far many women have come to realize just how wonderful life is when you stand in your own power, feeling fantastic in your own skin.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Weena McClelland of Warrior Wellness Coaching in the Edmonton area is my guest today.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Hi, Weena.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Hi, Tina.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Would you like to tell us a little bit about yourself?
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: So I am a wife and mom of three.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: And through my own experience and healing journey, it really put me on this path and position where I decided that I wanted to make a difference through my own experience and help other women.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: And so I decided to become a personal trainer.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And then through that, it's grown into so much more.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Now I'm coaching women and, you know, just really working on connecting with my clients and people to love themselves for who they are and where they are right now.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: And you've done this through your own, like with other coaches, or have you done this on your own, just through your own personal development?
- 3:07UNKNOWN: Yeah.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, through my own journey.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: So years ago, I was, you know, struggling.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: I was really...
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: I had felt like I had all this weight to lose.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: I was...
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: you know, not happy.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: I was always tired.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I went through actually a period where I was, we were trying to conceive my firstborn.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: And now I'm a mom of three.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: So, you know, this has definitely been a journey.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: But through that process, the doctors were telling me like, you need to lose weight, you need you can get healthier, your chances of conceiving aren't really that great.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: And it was kind of, I had really hit a low and I was really hard on myself.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: And it was kind of in that moment that, you know, I was sitting there one day after an appointment and and I was in my car and a message came to me and it was the message to me was you know like if you if you change nothing nothing will change but it wasn't a message of like you know you have to do this you have to do that it was more of a like we need to like start within so the journey started there and it was more of a yes let's work on external stuff but also the internal piece that was a big piece that was missing.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: That was a big piece that was missing.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: But that's kind of where the healing is, right?
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: The healing always starts from the inside.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: And I think that that put me on it.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Initially, I was like, okay, I want to help women to feel strong and confident.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: And there was a big disconnect.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: And then that's where my work has taken me now.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: It's like, let's make that connection to our internal world so that we can actually be confident and accept who we are right now.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: We don't have to change.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: We don't have to make all these crazy changes to get there.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: So were you already a personal trainer at this point?
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: At this point, I was not.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: No.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: So I actually, I went to a fitness class and the instructor there was basically had said to me, like, you can't come into this class if you're super fit, which I was like, okay, because I, you know, I had felt like very, I was like, I'm like so in shape.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: I don't know where to start, you know?
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: So it did start as a physical journey.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: And I went to that class and I was like, this is amazing because it was just inclusive.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: It wasn't like, you know, I'm, there was no, the class was just concept of the class was don't compare yourself to others.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: And I loved it.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: It was just kind of like be where you are, where you're at.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And that's okay.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: And so that actually really inspired me to start my journey.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: And I remember saying, like, I'm going to become a personal trainer just like this.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: And it wasn't even until, like, five or six years later where I actually, like, found the confidence to go down that road and become a personal trainer certified.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Wow, that's awesome.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: That is so awesome.
- 6:04UNKNOWN: Yeah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: So how do you bring others, like what do you do to serve others and bring them to the next level?
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Well, I always feel like it's, you know, a lot of people come to me and they're like, they come to me and it initially starts with like, I don't have energy, I want to lose some weight.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: And so I really try to connect people that this is so much deeper than this.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: And, you know, it may start as a physical journey and as it did for myself as well, right?
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: It started as like, initially, I thought I had to be like, I had to, you know, go to the gym and I had to do all these things.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: And then it really started to become more of an internal journey.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: an internal piece for me.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: And that's what I bring to my clients is connecting them to the internal process to let them know that they are worthy.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: They are enough because a lot of it comes from that place, but they don't realize it.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: So people come to me because they think it's like, Oh no, I'm just, I have to, you know, I have to lose weight.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I hear that all the time.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: And you have to, um, You have to take them through that journey through their body, mind, and soul, right?
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, those are the pillars to which I really coach from.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: How would you define self-confidence?
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I think confidence is about having the courage to appreciate yourself and just show up as yourself and for yourself, really, right?
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I really do think that a lot of it has to do with that courage piece.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I agree.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Why do you think it's important for all of us to have self-confidence?
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: You know, I think that when we have self-confidence, we're able to stand up and show up for ourselves.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: We get to stand in that power, and then it's authentic.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Instead of, you know, like, it's not really...
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: a matter of being fake.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: It's like if this is who you are and if you know who you are and you have that confidence, you'll be able to shine your light and not, you know, not live so sheltered and hold back.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Because I know what that's like too.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: I was there as well.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: And it's a hard place to feel like you just, you withdraw within, but you know there's so much more out there.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: I love hearing all the different stories ways of it being said, right?
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: In the end, it's being yourself, right?
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: What are some of the tips, what are some tips that you could maybe give our listeners today on being more confident?
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I really, I'm a, I come from a place of, like, listen to your conversations and just bring the awareness to where they're at.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Like, do we actually notice how many times a day we speak negatively about ourselves or to ourselves, even in our mind, right?
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: It's like, oh, you should have done that today, or you could have done that better, you know?
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: And just acknowledge that that's there, but then also acknowledge the good things, too.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: It's like, okay, we did good today.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: It was snowing outside, but we still got up and got some fresh air, took our kids to school, even though you may have wanted to stay in bed.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: So acknowledge and talk kinder, nicer to yourself.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Another thing I think is like following through, show yourself that you could depend on you.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: You know, it's not necessarily about being like all areas of your life, but if you could just even do 1% better or if you make that commitment to yourself, follow through on that and that is your 1%.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: It's not about, you know, it's not about doing everything all at once.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: It's about like the bite-sized small pieces that we're going to do to get us improving.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: And that way we build that confidence in ourselves.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Because we're following through.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: We're keeping that commitment to ourselves.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I do think it is like also pushing through fear because we have this, you know, I think in your intro you talked about it's like this world of perfection.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: We're constantly bombarded by outside media telling us that we're not enough.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I think it's like that places a lot of expectations and fear and, you know, like we hold back.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: And I think if you could just push through that and get that courage, then that confidence will come forth and you'll be able to, you know, really like live authentically because you're connecting to your inner self and who you are.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: So true, Hanks.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Like, totally.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: In your opinion, what is the difference between self-esteem and self-confidence?
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: So I think like self-esteem is, you know, it's self-esteem is more so.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: It's it's.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: It's when you can appreciate yourself, when you can place value in yourself.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Sorry, self-confidence is more so when you can appreciate yourself and place value and see the value in yourself.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: And then self-esteem, I think, is more of a deeply rooted, like a deeply rooted belief system that you come from, right?
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, I do believe that self-esteem is more of your belief system and confidence is kind of like how you place a value in yourself.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: How do you think you could show that you are more confident?
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: I think that, you know, I really think that it's, for me personally, it's showing up and being able to say, like, it's not But I work at this daily and I continue to show up.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: And I think that it is about being vulnerable too and talking to people and letting people know.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: And that's where I really come from a coaching position of we're not really aiming for perfection.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: We want to aim for maybe more consistency.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: It's like that 1% versus that 100%.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: And in my day-to-day world, I really do embody that too.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you know what?
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: It's not about 100%.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: It's about...
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: finding harmony in life, basically, and just doing that 1%.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: And that in itself, it's like pushing past that fear, doing stuff outside of my comfort zone.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: And in that, I'm building my confidence all the time.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: So that's basically how you get there, right?
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: Like how you get to be that more self-confident person is pushing yourself out of your comfort comfort zone, right?
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: Because we all have that, whether we like to admit it or not, right?
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: And then also, too, like you said earlier, accepting your wins, like acknowledge that you've done something that you wouldn't have done yesterday.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: You did it today and, you know, it worked out well, right?
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: It all works together.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 100%.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Why do you think it's important for us women to have self-confidence?
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: You know, I think it comes back to just if we have that self-confidence, we...
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Like if you really tune in and connect to yourself, you can really show up authentically.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: And I think when we're coming from a place that we're not connected to ourselves, we tend to stay stagnant.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: You know, we don't take those chances.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: We don't experience life.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: We say no to more things than we say yes to.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Whereas when you're really like working on that confidence and building that confidence and coming from a place of confidence, you're able to, even though things scare you, it's like, you're going to try anyways.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: And maybe it's not going to be perfect the first time, but I think it's about getting that experience.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: And I think once you get that experience, we get more confidence.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: So it's, again, it goes back to that.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: It's not about perfection, right?
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Like we build through experiences and continuing to do stuff, we build our own confidence.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: So I think it is really important for women to show up, you know.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: And for themselves.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: So do you think then we could fake self-confidence?
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: So yes and no, because I do, you know, like I think that you do to a degree, right?
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Like maybe it's, you know, I take that back to training.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: It's like, it may not feel like somebody can, you know, you know, lift weights a certain way, but it's not until they do the practice and they go through the motions and do it for a period of time where they're like, oh, okay, I can actually do this now.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: And I think, you know, confidence can kind of be like that when you're trying to self-talk, like, positively to yourself, especially if you've had so many years of speaking negatively towards yourself and about yourself and your head and, you know, you have a lot of that ongoing chatter.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: I think that it takes time to be able to, you know, to build that.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: So to a degree, it's like, you know, if you tell yourself something long enough, you'll eventually begin to believe it.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: And I do believe that that's where confidence comes in as well.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: If you continue to practice and do things over and over, it will become second nature in anything we do.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: And then you do have confidence in that area, right?
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: So I do think there is a degree of that.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Do you think self-confidence...
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Like, why do you think self-confidence is low in some women?
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: You know, I think that it's...
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Like, that's a really big and great question.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: And I think, you know, it's...
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Partly, maybe who we're hanging out with, what we're consuming in our day-to-day lives.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Are you watching media?
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Are you holding yourself to the standards?
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: For example, as a personal trainer, I don't...
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: If I compared myself to all the thousands of personal trainers out there, I may not have the confidence to show up and help the people that I need to because I might say, I am not that fitness model over there.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: I don't fit into that.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: In fact, I'd rather see...
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: People of all different shapes and sizes exercising for health, for strength, you know.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: And so I think that it depends on kind of what you surround yourself with, whether or not, like, in your environment around you can also play an impact as to how you show up with your confidence and how that affects your confidence.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I get that.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: So I have a question in the personal training world, right?
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: So I used to have a trainer.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: For a few years, I trained with a lady.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: And we used to go to the gym, and it was like a public gym.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: So there were other people there that weren't necessarily working with her.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: And she would ask me, and she was quite young.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: She was in her early 20s, and at the time, I was in my mid-40s.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: And she would say to me, does it bother you that that girl over there is working out?
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: And I was like, well, what do you mean?
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Does it bother me?
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Like, she needs to make her body healthy just like I do, right?
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: And she said, you know, like most women are so intimidated by other women in the gym at the same time.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: And I was like, oh, I am so past that.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: Like, I am here for me.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: And if you don't like that, then...
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: That's your issue, not mine.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Do you find that with your, I know you have your gym sort of in your house, but do you find that you find women are like that?
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: You know, that's really interesting because I think that's a perception.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: I think a lot of people have the same mindset as you, whereas everybody's here to work on themselves, to better themselves.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: I find, though, that through conversations with clients and women especially, there is that intimidation factor of walking into the gym and it's like, oh, people are watching me, people are looking at me.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: I felt that stigma as well when I was, you know, before my personal training day When I was trying to go to the gym and I'm like, I don't know if I'm doing this right or wrong and people are going to be, you know, judging me.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: But that I think is a lot of our own perception, right?
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Like it's, we place that, we place that on ourselves when really people are there.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: And people are there really encouraging for the most part from the experiences that I've seen and had.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: People are, it's almost like a community, right?
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: You can build that community.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter about the shapes and sizes, but it's our own perception that holds us back.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: And our own confidence.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: Because, I mean, I'm not the, you know, I'm not physically active very much at all.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: You know, but when I do go to the gym, I'm there for me.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Like, if you're there to watch me, you're doing the wrong, like you're in the wrong place.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: Because I have no idea.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: I have no idea how I look.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: But in the end, I don't care.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Because I'm doing what I feel I need to do for my body.
- 19:30UNKNOWN: Right?
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, and I think that's a very important piece to it.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: It's about being there for you and showing up for yourself.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: At the end of the day, nothing else, right?
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: No one else.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: No one else is really watching you.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: No one else is really paying attention to what you're doing.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: They're there for themselves as well.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and if I could pay someone to exercise for me, I think that would be the top of my list.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: I would budget that in first before anything else.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: You and I have had this conversation.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: I do not like exercise, but we do it because we have to for our own health.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: I have one more question.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: It's not related to confidence, but I want your honest answer.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: What is your biggest pet peeve?
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's a good question.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's a really, that one has me a little stumped.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I can give you the answer to mine.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: My biggest touch, Eve, is when people live in their ego and they, you know, they're bigger than, they think they're bigger than the world.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: It bothers me so much, and I don't know why it bothers me, because I do my very damnedest to not live in my ego, right?
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: So when I see other people living in their ego, it just burns my skin.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that's a good one.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: You know, I think for myself, it's not necessarily like a pet peeve, but I get, like, really passionate about when people are, like, like, I want like it's almost like they they don't feel like I can't do the change.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: I can't I can't make the change.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: I can't.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: So it's more so like when people are like, I want to, but I can't.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: But then but then they'll they'll try and then they won't try.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, but it's in you and you're so close.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: And, you know, like it's I think that for me is like the.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Like it's not a pet peeve, but it's just like I want to pull out the best in people.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: And so I think when people like completely shut down and build these walls and don't want to do the work that they say they want to do the work, but then they don't want to do the work because it's hard.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: I get really like passionate about that because I'm like, you can do this.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, that's the ego, right?
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: That's the ego telling us you're safe.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: So why do you want to change that?
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: You're fine the way you are.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Why set yourself up to fail more?
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: So I guess you and I have the same pet peeve.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I'm guilty of it because we all do it, like the exercise thing.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: But when I notice it in other people, it just drives me.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: And maybe that's why it drives me.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: It's a mirror, right?
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because we see our own faults in other people.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: That was awesome.
