- 0:07This is Chuck's canteena podcast where anything and everything is up for discussion. And
- 0:15now here's your barman, Chuck O'Donnell. Hey, how are you? I
- 0:26am a little grouded? Are you? We're just going to you're drinking anything?
- 0:33I'm drinking some V eight uh V eight yeah, okay, okay,
- 0:39the good one. This is the good one. And everyone's going to think
- 0:44of the sugary ship, but not the sugar ship. It's the one that's
- 0:48like the actual juice, but it's the strawberry banana and it is amazing.
- 0:54Okay, it's my favorite. They have at You're so very ill, say
- 0:59you and that's Chef's guss okay, and allegedly from you know, I actually
- 1:11I read some scholarly articles because I didn't trust the internet, like just googling
- 1:18is VA healthy? You know, supposedly this, this specific shoot of VA
- 1:25Juices is actually good for you. Now you don't need to say it outright,
- 1:30but is this actually the v A brand or is this a different company?
- 1:34H it's the og Okay, so it's I get you. I just
- 1:40want to make sure it's like yeah, because like anytime you see like tomato,
- 1:42it's like it's like, what is it? And I'm having bubbly cherry
- 1:47flavor? It's like, what do you call it? What's the thing everyone
- 1:52uses? Like Kleenex? You know, everyone goes okay the Kleenex. It's
- 1:56a tissue, you know, because you know, but respect Kleenex because like,
- 2:01come on, dude, they easily got to have in the if not
- 2:07the at least in the top five most word of mouth marketing ever. Well,
- 2:12I don't think you could fire the marketing director who came up with that.
- 2:15I don't think even the marketing director is probably around anymore, and it's
- 2:19probably just gone down the line of their kids and it's like, oh they
- 2:23doing that, Oh, where's where's it? It's like it's like, you
- 2:24know, any person ever goes into clean next meeting, where's the marketing department?
- 2:29Fired? You're out of here. We don't need it. We don't
- 2:30need a marketing department or Kleenex, like like McDonald's like, hey, we
- 2:38don't need a marketing a property, you know, you know what we need?
- 2:39Wait, what does make that majority of McDonald's commercials anyway? Happy meals?
- 2:44Otherwise you get the occasional like you know, hey, come try a
- 2:46quick yeah or literally yeah, it's back. McRib the mcrim is back.
- 2:53It's like a ten second ad and they're gonna make millions, Oh dude,
- 2:58and really like we gonna get the side the way Truck Scantina, thank you
- 3:00at trucks Nanteina Gmail, truck Katina. But literally my wife and I my
- 3:07wife, we were talking about this last night. We went to the gym
- 3:08and then like the generateds, we didn't go to McDonald's. We were talking
- 3:12about McDonald's and we went down. The reason being and I want to get
- 3:15you this is not gonna lie. I had a couple of things I want
- 3:19to talk to you about. But for usual, whenever you come on,
- 3:21fuck it because it's just always good times because we you know, I mean,
- 3:25you know, the first like ten twenty episodes. I not wrote a
- 3:28script. I wrote bullet points and just don't know if you go back and
- 3:30listen, like said, you always should always listen to your own stuff.
- 3:34I'm I'm the first guy to say that, And sometimes I'm like, Okay,
- 3:36that's pretty good. The other times I'm like, oh why, like
- 3:38because I get tell it's like, oh, good conversations coming kind of like
- 3:40how I'm trying to get away, like I'm kind of going from me,
- 3:43but I'm not like oh and then we go something else. Anyway, we're
- 3:45talking about this last night, So so you get on marketing. Okay,
- 3:49the gym that Kaylyn and I go to this is like a chain. It
- 3:53is a chain. Actually, I think it's Allly Fitness where all of these
- 4:00we I mean you didn't see. Yeah, anyway, hopefully kind of like
- 4:04how like when you talk to your phone like al a sudden artises maybe hopefully
- 4:08that entices them to maybe reach out to Chucks Cantina at gmail dot com right
- 4:14across the street from Elifit is not even when you walk outside, the first
- 4:16thing you see Burger kinge smart like you know, hey, that Burger king
- 4:25has broken? So many people do don't even think about that? Yeah,
- 4:30dude, how many I hears saying I'm guilty even too? Like one two
- 4:33th I was like super like, oh I got I haven't evenything any some
- 4:36protein or I was going to burgny like a good like a couple of chicken
- 4:40sandwiches and burgers. Anyway, Yeah, oh god, how many? How
- 4:44many? How many? Has that one broken? Too many? We'll get
- 4:47to the other the Burger kinge dilemma here in a minute, but to stick
- 4:51on the fast the all fast food track. We were going down the pipeline
- 4:56her night of like what food joints did you live off as a kid,
- 5:02And there's a reason that goes we'll get together part in a minute. The
- 5:04reason we're talking about that is like we're trying to see, like how much
- 5:08has it changed since fro when we were a kid to now, because when
- 5:11I was a kid, and she'll and she says, like, you know,
- 5:14the thing that we her and I would always get, which is kind
- 5:16of funny, is now we're married. Was the Burger King chicken sandwich.
- 5:21Before the chicken sandwich fores happened in the last couple of years. The Burger
- 5:26King chicken sandwich, the original chicken sandwich, to me, was the most
- 5:29elite sandwich out And I didn't mean of all of them, like the we're
- 5:33heard I without like a rabbit hole time about the bread. The bread on
- 5:36the original chicken chicken sandwich for Burger King, where it's that lawn poppy seed
- 5:41bun, feels like it's buttered, feels like it's fresh out of the oven.
- 5:44When it's probably been in a plastic bag for five months. It was
- 5:47just it's just always so good. And then I just remember, and I'm
- 5:50not gonna lie to you. I remember, I don't know if it's been
- 5:53around for a long time. And then I'm leve nine here. I remember
- 5:57it was like two thousand, Between two thousand and two thousand and three,
- 6:00time is when the McChicken really came into light because they started having commercials for
- 6:02it. And I'll never forget the first mind of mc chicken was literally my
- 6:05dad got us two mc chicken sandwiches because you know, we're big boys.
- 6:10I was a big boy then so a big guy now shocker, and I
- 6:14still forget, like we eat the chicken sandwich and my dad was like,
- 6:15it's not burgercane and I ate it. I'm like and I literally said to
- 6:18my dad, I'm gonna be at these rest of my life in lower ball.
- 6:21All these years later, anytime we've been out to you, laders,
- 6:25we've had a few libations, if you will. My go to orders always
- 6:28two mc chickens in a French fried But what for you was like your go
- 6:34to as a kid, and what did you should have her? Now?
- 6:36Because for me, it was always burgking when I as a kid. But
- 6:39now it's like because the problem and here's the thing the problem for me,
- 6:42they come back and the other thing I was gonna talk about the problem with
- 6:44Burgricane. I mean, this is definitely not give him the email tchuck scanteen
- 6:46Toby dot com, wink. It's it's just so hit or miss for me,
- 6:49man, like as I don't know what it is, but it's just
- 6:53either it's really good or it's like I want my money back bad. But
- 6:57yeah, well I'm trying. I'm trying to think because like I don't really
- 7:04think I got a whole lot of fast food as a kid, uh unless
- 7:10we were on like a road trip. I mean, well, so here's
- 7:14the thing, because like with a family of six, like you know,
- 7:23oh yeah, I didn't think about that. I was just thinking, like
- 7:27my parents always did it on road trips, because like, how how else
- 7:30are you gonna fucking feed four kids and you and your spouse. There's like
- 7:34quickly and efficiently on a road trip, Like it's fast food. So I
- 7:40think because we did so many like road trips and driving, that we were
- 7:44doing that enough that we never really had fast food outside of that, except
- 7:50when I was very little, like before preschool, before kindergarten. Actually when
- 7:57we lived here in Virginia. Funny enough, we did go to Chick fil
- 8:01A often. What well, yeah, because it was it was back when
- 8:07they first I think. I mean, I don't they're from the They're from
- 8:11the Atlanta region. Because's saying they were never in the Midwest like the last
- 8:15years. Yeah, yeah, they they were East Coast primarily, and then
- 8:18they realized their potential and smartly moved out to the Midwest. And now they're
- 8:22taking over the Midwest. They're taking out the world. I mean, on
- 8:30on just a food level. I love the food, right. But so
- 8:35back to the story, though, I really don't have a whole lot of
- 8:39memories outside of that. Like uh, I mean obviously it was me and
- 8:43my little sisters, like two preschoolers. My mom would just go to Chick
- 8:46fil A to hang out with her friends and then the kids could play in
- 8:48the play area. So like yeah, McDonald's. Yeah, but I do
- 8:56have I have some like when I was very little, little I think BK
- 9:01was was my favorite. Like I have this this feeling I've never been a
- 9:09big art just guy like I mean, I'll eat it and I have enjoyed
- 9:13it a lot in the past, just nowadays it's just not for me.
- 9:20No, and I would I would second that. But like, I mean,
- 9:22I just I remember back when I was a kid, like you said,
- 9:24like for some reason, like everyone I knew, Burger King was always
- 9:28like the go to. I like, it might be nostalgia, it might
- 9:31just be false memory, but I truly believe old BK, like way back
- 9:37then before they first tried to change the menu, right, I do think
- 9:43it slapped like and again it could be false memory. I think I recall
- 9:48like the like the seared meat tastes feel back when they used to do on
- 9:54the griddle. Yep. I well, I don't know. I don't know
- 10:01if these are false memories or that. No, no, no not,
- 10:03because here's the thing, and I was like, this was gonna bring it
- 10:05out. If you're a nineties kid, Okay, I don't typically consider myself
- 10:09a nineties kid. But where were you born ninety six? So quick,
- 10:18quick, this is quick. I didn't think. I watched and got involved
- 10:22with a lot of like nineties things. I learned the nineties through my two
- 10:26older sisters. Like I was living in like quote unquote modern and like I
- 10:33got the exposure of nineties because of them, like okay, because they watched
- 10:37a lot of nineties shows, you know, like did all the nineties trends.
- 10:41So like I think it's a weird exposure for me. Okay, I'm
- 10:46just gonna say this though, if you're a nineties kid, I feel like
- 10:50most kids for the nineties enjoyed Burgricane. And here's the thing, it's been
- 10:54now almost I'm gonna say at least twenty years, if not twenty, it's
- 10:58near twenty. And hearing my both sets of my parents because both of the
- 11:01divorce, both sides going oh Birking's out the same sense they changed the menu
- 11:05all those years ago, they changed the oil, and it's like, okay,
- 11:09by now this is like it's not even like oh this is new.
- 11:11It's like, then why do we keep going like this is established now that
- 11:16it's been the same wave like this, because I'll never forget. It's gonna
- 11:20sound so stupid despite all the concussions I've had and thankfully listen, thankfully not
- 11:26out what like I said, I don't have I really don't have any meth
- 11:28I remember quite a lot of my life. I really do, and I'm
- 11:31thankful for that. But the spite of I'll never forget the first time I
- 11:35ever heard my mother or father say that. I can't say the exact month,
- 11:41but I could tell you it was around nineteen. I want to say
- 11:43ninety nine or two thousand, because I don't know if you ever remember this
- 11:46movie called Wild Wild West and they came out of them and it was not
- 11:52You're not gonna find it any like of the greatest movies of all timesless I'll
- 11:56say that, but they had the they had the toy line for Burgricane did
- 12:01and I'll never forget. Fuck dude, Yeah, got about the toys.
- 12:03I'm saying, I'll never forget it. My mom got me whatever. Whatever
- 12:07they consider a happy meal, like, I guess a kid's meal is what
- 12:09they call it for them, because I think I think heavy maals Lily McDonald's
- 12:13trademark. God, the everyone's getting plugs today. Yeah. I was trying
- 12:18not to say no, no, no, but no, but literally,
- 12:20you've been the klassical saying arches, but literally, I'll never get those.
- 12:24The first time I heard her go oh, I heard they change all these
- 12:26fries and they suck and like, I mean, you're I'm like five or
- 12:30six, I don't know, but I'm like, yeah, oh, I
- 12:31it taste a little bit different. I'm just like whatever. But like I
- 12:35literally been hearing that phrase since Wild Wild West, just in my and again,
- 12:41I remember that because like literally, because my dad, he loves Burricane.
- 12:43He loves He's like whenever time, it's like a tradition him and I
- 12:46had, whenever him and I would go on a trip. Uh, because
- 12:48you know, my dad really doesn't he never really flew that much. Whenever
- 12:50we would, we'd always do road trips. Whenever we would drive somewhere,
- 12:54it was always, hey, let's if we're gonna stop somewhere a quick bite.
- 12:56It was always Burgricane, and it was always like, hey, because
- 13:00we can either have their breakfast food or we can have a whapper chicken sandwich
- 13:01because it's always available on the menu, and it's like a tables all this
- 13:07time. I just never I'll never get I've been hearing my dad say that
- 13:09since then. I've been hearing my mom say that since then. I'm just
- 13:11like, hen, we move past this. But again, like I mean,
- 13:15god, God knows how much shit has changed, the fast food you
- 13:18know, uh, ingredients or god knows what else, you know, cheaper,
- 13:24quicker, less real like and more and still more expensive for the consumer.
- 13:31Yeah, Like it's it's sad to say there's that mean that's gone around
- 13:35for a couple of years now, Like you know, like you have three
- 13:37dollars in your pocket, what are you getting from the value menie McDonald's And
- 13:41it's like you look at those things, it's like one of those things is
- 13:43not just like four bucks. So I I just saw it today. It
- 13:50was a short on YouTube. Yeah, don't ask me why I get the
- 13:54fun things. But apparently the internet is up in arms because someone shared a
- 14:07twenty four dollars and some change receipt for a five guys order of I know
- 14:11what you're talking about. Yeah, I'm just like that's such little so for
- 14:18for the audience, it was like a normal cheeseburger, small fries, small
- 14:22drink with total and tip or tax no tip. It came out to like
- 14:30twenty four dollars and some change. And I don't know, all right,
- 14:35I will say I think five guys is actually good food. I will say
- 14:41that I have not been disappointed. I have never been disappointed only until I
- 14:46get the bill. Oh yeah, that's to be honest, Like, especially
- 14:52back when I made a lot less money, like I rarely went to five
- 14:58guys. It was like a special treat to go to five guys because I
- 15:01was like most of the time I couldn't rationally spending that extra money for you
- 15:05know, just a burger. But literally it's like it's like what it's like
- 15:09twelve dollars for like a double burger cheese. It's just like, no,
- 15:13I think that was the stingle, dude. That's the thing. Like and
- 15:18truthfully, because like when we got it at your wedding, like I'm pretty
- 15:22sure, I'm pretty sure I only got a single, like just a single
- 15:28burger, nothing, nothing else, and it came out to like thirteen or
- 15:31fourteen bucks. Oh my god. It like I'm pretty sure that's just a
- 15:35single because we were there for Target. Oh my god, oh god,
- 15:41that was actually really good though. No, but that's see, that's the
- 15:43problem. And it's like okay, or for example, and again I'm not
- 15:48gonna say this is legit because again, all I mean, I don't tamper
- 15:54with my like I mean, I'm afraid to be there have been a couple
- 15:56of things I've kind of only for like between the beginning event of like the
- 15:58podcast, just for like intro outro purposes. But like there was a guy
- 16:03who went on uh I think I think he was on TikTok and he did
- 16:08a thing where he went he did multiple chipotles, He went to multiple chipotles,
- 16:12ordered to go, and then he did well hold on and then he
- 16:17did multiple takeout orders via Uber or like one of these, like you know,
- 16:22and was he gonna fucking pluck it? I got I'm clearing that media
- 16:23training drew all these all these uh he took all these right share apps,
- 16:30he did all these ride share apps and be like, hey, like what
- 16:33same exact order from all these places, and like the food quality or quantity
- 16:37rather was significantly less. It's just the food service on the takeout, on
- 16:41the take outside, on the takeout or on the food service. No so
- 16:45in terms of how much food he got for ordering in or ordering through a
- 16:48right share. When he ordered in, he got a lot of food.
- 16:52When he ordered right share, he got signfically less food. And like it's
- 16:56no secret they up charged a ship out of that because obviously the right shair
- 16:59is I make some cash off it. Yeah, but it's just like and
- 17:03it just sucks. It's just like where we like because memor on, I'm
- 17:07I like, you know, right chairs now, I'm just now I'm just
- 17:10watching myself from saying shit. I like right share as much as the next
- 17:12guy. But I'm also also at times I'm just like, you know what,
- 17:15like I'd rather go watch them make my food because then if if you
- 17:18wait forty five minutes and then that Chick fil A shows Chicken sandwich place shows
- 17:23up and for some reason, just hypothetically, you got a chicken sandwich,
- 17:27fries and a shake and for some odd reason they forget to put a cherry
- 17:30on it, You're just it just ruins the mood. Man, I'm not
- 17:36gonna lie. I think I've become a little a little luxurious with my food
- 17:42apps. For disclosure, I have I have removed it from my phone and
- 17:48I haven't used it in like four months, so there you go. Yeah,
- 17:51I'm four months clean. Well anyway, full disclosure, I just put
- 17:56the Chick fil A up on my phone. Oh dude, I perched fell
- 18:00that for the year. Anyway. Oh god, I stopped pretty quickly ordering
- 18:07from anywhere that I knew was more than like twenty minutes out like right,
- 18:10like, and I'm not talking like twenty minute if I drive there, I'm
- 18:12talking twenty minute delivery service people, right, Because like I was having too
- 18:18many cases where like I'd order something and it'd be like a forty five fifty
- 18:22five minute drive, right, and then it would get to me and to
- 18:26be half cold, half warm, half soggy, half you know. Well,
- 18:30and the problem is it's like it's it's and I get it from the
- 18:33ride share side. If you make too many issues, they're be like,
- 18:36Okay, there's nothing more we can do for you, Sorr. It's like,
- 18:37well, like I paid for this. It's not it's like, well,
- 18:40we can't give you money because we've given you refunds already on other things
- 18:44in the past. You just go down the rabble like reading like people's experience
- 18:48of ride shares. And here's the thing I hate. I hate to say
- 18:51this too. It is an object kind of like where you lived, because
- 18:53like, okay, if you live in a shitty area like Liza, it's
- 18:56probably gonna a shitty food certain I'm just you know, I'm just throwing like,
- 19:00well you will find you will find those random hole in the walls that
- 19:03are fantastic. But that that also goes like with some of the things that
- 19:07are like people are touching your food something, which is unfortunately. That's why
- 19:10like like here's the right right you right away get brownie points for me if
- 19:12you're one of these restaurants that like whenever someone like picks up your right your
- 19:18food that you order through white shirt app and you like tape the box,
- 19:21yes, like right away, right away, you got brownie points to me
- 19:25if that shit comes and the bags open. I'm like, I have used
- 19:29that as my deciding factor two times, like where I was torn between two
- 19:34places literally equally balanced, and I knew that one did that and one didn't,
- 19:40and I was like, fuck it. Yep, playing it safe today.
- 19:44Boys. But as you said, though, like it was forty five
- 19:45minutes. But sometimes like and then sometimes you just don't want to get out
- 19:49of the office chair. Sometimes you just want to get the child couch.
- 19:52Sometimes you're like, you know what I didn't I need to help defend democracy.
- 19:56Just think about forty five minutes. By the time I'm done, we'll
- 19:59be good to go. And you know it's like also really shitty that.
- 20:04I don't know why, but like that I got a cough now that reminded
- 20:11me of like one of the first times I ever used the apps. My
- 20:18my little sister and I we got real, real, real grooded whether with
- 20:25a couple more reels thrown in there? How many how many o's and t's,
- 20:30Like like we pre planned the ship because we knew we were gonna be
- 20:33too too grooded. Okay, it was a rainy Saturday afternoon and we had
- 20:44nothing to do, so that kind of level that a way. Anyway,
- 20:52Uh so we knew we wanted we wanted to feast, right because you know,
- 20:57yeah, you wanted to feast. So so we pulled our money and
- 21:02uh we got a massive order from five guys or a five some really overpriced
- 21:08burger joint. But I don't want to like bash them. A burger joint
- 21:14that has good their food over it's really good. It's just it's not worth
- 21:18that much. Yeah, and and so like the restaurant was about like twenty
- 21:26minutes like if I drove there distance. Yeah, so like we knew it
- 21:30would be a while, and we kind of figured like we just you know,
- 21:36keep grooting. So so we we grooted for the like fifty five fucking
- 21:41minute delivery time, right, Like we we knew that the burgers were going
- 21:47to be cold, so like we we heat it up the oven already,
- 21:49so like we knew we were just gonna throw them in there, like like
- 21:52you know, we we we were expecting it. You despite how, despite
- 21:56despite you being on Planet X, you were prepared well. Like I said,
- 22:00we had a pre plan this ship to two Bachelor Degrees to figure this
- 22:10out. You're welcome, mom, and dad was gonna say congratulations. But
- 22:18what we were worried about was we ordered shakes. Oh no, yeah,
- 22:23yeah, yeah, So so we had cleared we no, no, we
- 22:27had cleared space out of the freezer. So we knew we were gonna grab
- 22:30them and instantly put them in the freezer like wet towels, ready to wrap
- 22:34around it, you know all that shit right wrap around right, yep.
- 22:40We're tracking this thing. We're tracking this thing, you know what. We're
- 22:44watching it because we grewed it, you know. And obviously that fifty five
- 22:51minutes felt like fifty five hours for us. Yeah yeah, yeah, you
- 22:53know how it works. And it gets down to seven fucking minutes, right,
- 23:00seven fucking minutes. He's coming at our street six minutes. We're losing
- 23:07our goddamn mine. It's fucking here, boys, it's fucking here. Then
- 23:15your order has been dropped. Oh the fucker decided. Nah, this order
- 23:26snow pretty good. I've been driving with this for a while. I'm pretty
- 23:29hungry. Boys. These are a couple of nice burgers, and hey,
- 23:34these shakes haven't melted yet, oh man, And just dipped with our order.
- 23:41Oh we got we got it refunded. But the matter that the pride
- 23:48and the time was, man, dude, that that that time, that
- 23:52fifty five minutes was hell. It was. It was a hard time at
- 23:59that moment, oh man. And that that burger, that meal, that
- 24:06shake, Jesus, that was gonna be salvation. See. And that's that's
- 24:15the thing going back out, like it's always a gamble whenever you do any
- 24:19type of I mean, that's what anything like. You know, if you
- 24:22buy some from Amazons, a gamble's gonna make it a one piece. You
- 24:25don't know that it's a gamble if you buy something like I'm because we're trying
- 24:30to avoid sponsors or not, we're trying to not try to avoid sponsors.
- 24:33Excuse me. We're trying to avoid saying names. You would like sponsorss very
- 24:37much, but because there's a certain I won't say who. If you're in
- 24:42the United States, you know who I'm talking about. There's a certain shipping
- 24:48company that where if you see all of a sudden that it says your item
- 24:51is being shipped by this place, you automatically go, you don't go,
- 24:56where is it that you don't you know, you go, fuck, it
- 24:59is not gonna I can hear? Is it in one piece? Oh?
- 25:03Really? I have had that experience. Here's a hint for some people.
- 25:06It's very popular on another continent. That's all I want to say about that
- 25:10anyway. But it's like it just sucks, like because because it's just ship
- 25:14like that, and then it's you know, and I'm not gonna go to
- 25:15the hole like, oh well, twenty dollars an hour for doing flipping burgers,
- 25:18but just like what the fuck? You know what I mean, Like
- 25:19that's the ship. That's just because because because now here's the thing too,
- 25:22it's like the guy probably got like a nasty message from Uber why did you
- 25:26cancel this order? Why did you cancel this What happened? Because I'm not
- 25:30actually a true story, and I'm gonna say it's around. I don't know
- 25:33for a fact if this is true, but this is an actual experience that
- 25:37happened. It's gonna be a good one. I mean, it's not good.
- 25:40I felt terrible for the ride share driver. I'll say that. So
- 25:42my wife loves a certain subplace that Drew and I, well, Hi about
- 25:48this. She loves a certain subplace that is a major competitor to a subplace
- 25:52that Drew and I text about every two days. See what you're putting down.
- 26:00I'm learning so I'll never forget my wife. She was coming home,
- 26:06I believe from workers saw ball. She's coming from something. I'm like,
- 26:07hey, you know what a long day. I'll surprise her. I'll get
- 26:11her her sandwich from this place, and I'm ordering and kind of like you
- 26:15okay, I see it coming down. And full disclosure, I was being
- 26:19lazy as shit. This sandwich place. I could have literally I could have
- 26:23been there and back in twenty five minutes. It's about a fifteen minute walk.
- 26:29But I just was walking too. Okay, Yeah, but I was
- 26:30just I was just look, I'm comfortable. I don't want to get up
- 26:34I don't want to do it, so I order the sandwich. I order
- 26:40my sandwich. I'm like, i'll find you. I'll like the bullet,
- 26:41I'll get the sandwich from this other place whatever. Anyway, and I'm watching
- 26:45like you, I'm watching. I saw I see the driver get there.
- 26:49I'm like cool, and then I see the driver. Your order is now
- 26:52on its way. Great, it's coming down the road passes Wisconsin Avenue passes,
- 27:00you know, heading over to Water Street. I'm like, a right
- 27:03here we go, it's coming, it's coming. Gets it right to the
- 27:07and I mean I don't live there, Like I said, iceed to live
- 27:08on Jackson Street and two streets before Jackson Street gets the Highland Avenue. Like,
- 27:12okay, here it is, it's coming. You could go and I'll
- 27:15never forget. I was like, you took a really weird fucking route,
- 27:18which was kind of a spoiler, kind of which should have been hit in
- 27:21the first place. Also, in the carter just stops and I'm sitting there
- 27:22and I'm like, all right, it's a little weird and I'll keep it
- 27:25my uber. Fuck. They some of them have these like they have those
- 27:30like times. I was like, hey, your order will be in by
- 27:30this time or whatever and then which, of course it always changes. I'll
- 27:34never forget. It was like right at that point, all of a sudden,
- 27:37the car starts to move, like okay, well that was weird because
- 27:41like they parked right by her college and it said there for like fifteen twenty
- 27:45minutes, Like all right, this is getting kind of weird because we didn't
- 27:48order anything crazy. We ordered two sandwiches, and like, you know,
- 27:52I live in the partment, so I buzzed them in. They would come
- 27:53upstairs, and we're the apartment we lived in really the greatest, like how
- 28:00I put it, like, hey, go this way for this room,
- 28:02remember, so I just I would always open the door up my ro I'm
- 28:03like, hey, I'm over here, and I see this person come out
- 28:07of the elevator and I see the bag of food. All right, it's
- 28:08here. Also, this person starts limping. I'm like, what the heck
- 28:15is going on here? And I see on their other arm that's thankfully not
- 28:18holding my food, they have like a little cut. I'm like, uh,
- 28:23I'm thinking, like what the fuck happened? Because I'm like, okay,
- 28:26like this is where and like I'm not joking when this person was like
- 28:29limping to me. I mean was like like I just got shot in the
- 28:33leg and I'm limping to you. It was that messed up and like here's
- 28:36your food. I just go, you know, and like like like kind
- 28:40of like coming. It was a three second pause. I felt like a
- 28:42twenty second pasture. I'm kind of like, you're you gonna say something like
- 28:45I don't want to be the one that's to say like what's going on here?
- 28:48So I just go are you all right? And the person goes,
- 28:51yeah, I'm fine. I'm sorry your food. I mean, I know
- 28:52it's on time, but it We've been here ten I fortunately I got tea
- 28:56boned. I'm like what, I'm like, you did what? Like,
- 29:00yeah, I got t boned and I'm fine. The cops are at the
- 29:04scene. I decided to deliver your food. I'm like what you like wait?
- 29:11What like, yeah, you're just down the sho you were just down
- 29:12the roads. I mean like it was like literally like a five minute walk,
- 29:15but yeah, I just figure I walk here and I dropped, like
- 29:18I'm like are you good? Like yeah, I'm just gonna go back to
- 29:21my car, and the cops away for me, and they have they have
- 29:22my information, but like I'm like okay, and then you start just slipping
- 29:26back to the elevator and I'm like what what the So I was so stunned
- 29:34I didn't ask like, hey you got t B on, like was it
- 29:37a hint run, because like usually I there's like a cars. They're kind
- 29:40of like, hey, I can't you can't leave because I'm here's my thought
- 29:44too, because like I'll never forget. Because then Kennan comes home, she's
- 29:48get her sandwich, She's looking at me like what the fuck's up with you?
- 29:51And I explained the situation to her what the fuck is happening, and
- 29:53she's like what, Like that's fucking weird. And then of course our roommate
- 29:57Leah, she comes home and she works in the medical industry, and I
- 30:02tell her the story and she's like that makes no sense. I'm like,
- 30:06what do you mean? She goes they wouldn't have let her go if she
- 30:07was that fun. I'm like that's what I said, but like I'm not
- 30:11gonna lie, Like have you seen this person the way they were walking,
- 30:12the cut in their arm, You're thinking or it was all a massive ploy
- 30:19to get a good tip. Yeah, because I bet you did, didn't
- 30:25you? I gave I gave, I gave. I gave a good tip.
- 30:30Yeah exactly. It might be a goddamn genius ploy and probably five stars.
- 30:37Right, and now this this, this, this is this young woman
- 30:40is now driving around a walk you a fucking McLaren because she got all this
- 30:42tip money from Alliver? Like, what's that job? Did you give her
- 30:48five stars? I did, see, I see, I said, If
- 30:52everyone does that, she's going to be a top rated driver effort by start,
- 30:56I mean, she's going to get the better, better orders, right,
- 31:02generally get bigger tips. Anyway, she comes up and wounded, wounded,
- 31:10she drops off your massive fucking order. Let's say it's a two hundred
- 31:14dollars order, right, you're already gonna tip her, you know, thirty
- 31:17bucks probably right, right, unless you're an asshole? Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 31:21so you hear wounded, she tells you the story, You're like,
- 31:25god, damn, obviously you have some money because you're got I don't know
- 31:33who's doing that right here, because who the fuck is ride sharing steaks to
- 31:37your house? No, you go to restaurant, you know this is this
- 31:41is a wealthy person. You're like well, fuck, this person is going
- 31:47through hell and here I am eating, Like, look, look like a
- 31:51jackass. You know what, let's bump that thirty dollars tip and let's triple
- 31:56it or you. As soon as I get the olive, they wiped the
- 32:00They wiped the fucking ketch up off their arm, their leg all of a
- 32:05sudden, Oh I can walk just fine. To be clear, I'm not
- 32:08saying that this is this is an actual play. I'm just saying what if,
- 32:12And I think it's funny. But yeah, no, that was that
- 32:17literally wash That was one of the weirdest riot shacks. The other one,
- 32:22I'm not gonna lie was there was a time, literally the same apartment,
- 32:24same location. I had ordered myself, Caitlin, and Leah dinner and I
- 32:31think I was making drinks in the kitchen and all of a sudden, the
- 32:36door knocks. Once they came up to you, yeah, like we I
- 32:39think we buzzed them in, so dude, wow, that's that's a trip.
- 32:44Oh yeah, so we buzzed them up. They come up and uh
- 32:47knocking the door, and then Kathan's like, I'll get the dinner. Okay,
- 32:50great, she opens the door. All of a sudden, I hear
- 32:54Charlie and what and like like right where I was in the kitchen like I
- 33:00did like a TV show. Just all was just laying back a little bit,
- 33:01like what's up? So I can see what's in front of my beautiful
- 33:07bride to be a five year old with all her food. The kid?
- 33:17Yeah, they said their fucking kid. What the fuck? So of course,
- 33:24nice, nice, nice, young little lad. I'll say that.
- 33:28I don't land it off. I'm not my father, but nice little lad.
- 33:30Hold on, let me get that. So kid runs off, I'm
- 33:32not joking, ran to the elevator. So the shitless. So we're like
- 33:42puzzled. Leah didn't see this, but she's like what so oh soon I
- 33:49get the I get you. Here's the thing. I'm not an asshole when
- 33:51it comes like again, if my food's on time, and I'm gonna tip,
- 33:53if my food's sucked up, I'm gonna say something. That's how I
- 33:55am. But all of a sudden you get that like like how is your
- 34:00how is your right share experience with this driver today? I didn't just talk
- 34:05to them, no, No, was your food delivered on time? Yeah?
- 34:07So all of a sudden, and of course the three of us were
- 34:10like what do we do? And I'm like, okay, look, I
- 34:15got to be the adult here because here's a bottom line. The apartment we
- 34:19lived in the time, I'm not gonna say it was a nice apartment.
- 34:22I'm not gonna say it was the safest area. It was a safer area,
- 34:27but not the safest. Was that fair? That's that's that's probably the
- 34:30best way to put it. So I need put slide issue here. And
- 34:34I literally wrote that, I said that. I said the person was super
- 34:37I literally said the kid was very nice, super polite, hand us our
- 34:42food, YadA yah yea da. But then I said and I never got
- 34:45I literally wrote, and yes, you read that right, kid, they
- 34:47had a child come to our door on the twelve floor of an apartment building
- 34:52to drop off food. Yeah. Yeah, any any person with ill intent
- 34:58could con do horrible things. And I don't know the statstuff, but came
- 35:01on in Milwaukee at the time, one of the worst cities for that for
- 35:06ship like that, Like, oh fuck, are you real? Yeah,
- 35:09Miwaukee was like top five and like, uh what was it was like trafficking.
- 35:15They were in the top ten for kidnapping and yeah, they're the top
- 35:20five for trafficking for sure, but just like what the and that fortunately falls
- 35:23on all canaorse, which is like what the fuck? Like what you're sending
- 35:25your kids to the fucking twelve floor because and here's the thing, like like
- 35:30I'm one of those guys who, especially when I live at the apartments,
- 35:32I would be as a discreet as possible. Here's how you get in,
- 35:36here's what you talk to. All that stuff make it easier on me.
- 35:38Is like, hey, the sooner I get my food, so you get
- 35:39to go do the I feel so bad because we're in like a double locked
- 35:45like community. Yeah, So I started to meet them at the leasting office
- 35:53store every single time, like the front front door, because I feel so
- 35:57bad for them, also because I'm not in the best scevaria so right,
- 36:02But I'm just I just I'll never forget. I'm like, like really because
- 36:06that was my whole thing. I was like, I was like, I
- 36:07mean, I've had uber like rides where all of a sudden, you know,
- 36:09I'm expecting, like you know, here comes Mark and all of a
- 36:12sudden, like a woman's at my door and it's like she just got a
- 36:15bag of food. I'm like, oh, okay whatever, like cool beans
- 36:17than shore the food. All my foods here on time and everything's correct and
- 36:20there's no problem with it. Great, but I'm trying when like, all
- 36:22of a sudden, I'm expect because I forget it was supposed to be like
- 36:24it was supposed to be like a uh, it was supposed to be an
- 36:27older woman and all of a sudden, like I just hear Charlie and I'm
- 36:30like what. I not like not like what, I'm just like what,
- 36:34like what's the problem. And I'm like, oh, like like this's just
- 36:39weird. Yeah, because the kid goes this for Charlie. She's like and
- 36:46we're like what and I'm like, yeah, he goes, okay, here
- 36:49you go killing crabs the bag and the kid just fucking runs up. Fuck,
- 36:55oh my god, He'll we been talking like for forty minutes about fucking
- 36:59food ride shairs. So that's great, but dude, it's just it's just
- 37:02ship like that. That's the same. That's like, that's like the risks
- 37:05you gotta take with especially Anthony you have delivered to your house because again you
- 37:08don't you don't know, like you don't know essentially the journey that it takes
- 37:14you. Just hold the journey it takes when it gets to you is safe
- 37:15and sound and most importantly safe because unfortunately there are assholes or because actually,
- 37:22let me ask you a question, because I've had a few people I know
- 37:24some people that vehemently will refuse to do this. If you have an issue
- 37:29with your food, do you send it back? No? I have worked
- 37:32in food industry, so like, so now let me now kind of going
- 37:42back there on your whole two hundred dollars thing. I kind of I can
- 37:45agree and understand if people's sense it, like Okay, like, hey,
- 37:49I asked for medium where this is a little medium. Do you mind just
- 37:52cooking for like an extra two minutes? I get that whatever, But yeah,
- 37:58like if you're like a fucking like McDonald almost like, oh, hey,
- 38:00I got mustard on my burger. I didn't want to fireworks, I
- 38:04could hear that too, and it falls real. Yeah, he up.
- 38:07I hope it's fireworks. You say you're not in a safe area. No,
- 38:12I don't know if we could say the other one. So, but
- 38:15I also refer to the mass fireworks. Okay, so Chicago fireworks happy,
- 38:22Okay, So there's the sirens, Well, at least are close. It's
- 38:30right by. I can hear you, hear the sirens. I can hear
- 38:36the siren Jesus here, I am just sitting in my house. We're talking
- 38:43about sucking ride share props and drews like you to live. I live in
- 38:46de scenario. Why do you think I said double gated earlier? Dou hell
- 39:00want to sell and you know, to wild. I entertained a lot of
- 39:08my friends at my apartment. A lot of the time. It's like everyone's
- 39:13coming to me. I have to bust them in and out. And then
- 39:16when then when you buzzt them out, you wave. Boy, Am I
- 39:27wrong? Well? I we we do have a standard rule that there there
- 39:31must be a text when homes, no exceptions. Oh my god. Like,
- 39:43here's the thing. As we grow older, I've come accustomed to and
- 39:45I always did that when I know it's like, hey, text us when
- 39:46you get that. I always did that anyway, But as I as I
- 39:51like like like there are literally times like a friend, like a friend like
- 39:52Devion, or like a friend like or like Patrick for example, like you
- 39:55know he'll come hey now, he'll stay in the hospital the week and then
- 39:59you his home and he's gotta he's gotta do some drive back home. Look
- 40:01at he didn drink and drive home. And there's times like you know,
- 40:07again, you're driving for long hours, you just might forget something because then
- 40:09I'll just send like the most and then I'll just send like the most rudest
- 40:13texts like hey, motherfucker, are you fucking alone? Like or what like
- 40:20actual way back, I was like, oh sorry, just like like you
- 40:22gotta you gotta respond, you got it. A lot of my friends I
- 40:28I they don't respond and and I don't. I don't know if it's because
- 40:34they just passed out, which not from being too drunk. They would not
- 40:37be driving home. A lot of that. I'm just saying, like from
- 40:40tiredness because we're old, right and let's be real staying up late, dude.
- 40:46I never thought I was like okay, I knew, like okay,
- 40:51like was so nice, like I need to go to bed. But it's
- 40:53just like like ever since and I hate this saying, it's ever since I
- 40:57fucking turned goddamn thirty, Like there's been there's literally been some nights. I'm
- 41:00like, don't say that, dude. It's coming right now, It's coming,
- 41:06bro, Like I know you're in twenty still joy well, last motherfucker,
- 41:10dude, I expect my knees to rip every time I stand up.
- 41:15I expect that now. It's not even a fifty to fifty dude, I
- 41:23just know what's gonna happen. No, dude, that's the thing. That's
- 41:25why. And I've had obviously I've had multiple, unfortunately multiple knee surgeries.
- 41:31But like I just thankfully because I take care and like obviously me being gigantic
- 41:37doesn't help me. But I'm trying to change, you know, as anyone
- 41:38is trying to change gigantic, Thank you Jesus. But like, dude,
- 41:44yeah, it's just anytime, like I'm not saying, anytime I stand I
- 41:50get a little worried. But there's been some times like I'll stand up,
- 41:52but all of a sudden, I feel like we'd like a little thing.
- 41:53I'm like, uh, I ask myself, is today today? Or is
- 42:00this is this happening now? Are we finally? Are we at this part?
- 42:05Bro? This? Uh? This like so far this year I've had
- 42:12like these weird heart things and no worry everyone, I am planning to get
- 42:16it checked out. Please. Yeah, But likes fuck oh because like I'm
- 42:25finally like figuring out how how like I like to relax and and like actually
- 42:30like achieving more relaxation, like you know, able to reflect on all that.
- 42:37But like so I'm changing a lot of things, and like I'll get
- 42:40these random like heart palpitations sometimes yep, and you know it could be anxiety,
- 42:45like you know while but like sometimes they've been pretty bad, and it's
- 42:51like, ah, is this a heart attack? Like you know, like
- 42:54ten years ago, fucking two years ago. You know you're not at when
- 43:00in your life you're like, huh, I should actually consider worrying about a
- 43:02heart attack, you know, like you know what I mean. But I
- 43:08know, I know know, I mean, like yeah, because I'll never
- 43:12forget I think I can remember and and I've been kid and I like we
- 43:15and I think we heard, and I like sat down, we did some
- 43:16like goal plants, which I recommend everyone should do. It was like it
- 43:20was like one of those things like as we talk about it, it was
- 43:22just like, you know, like let's let's take over the world and ship
- 43:23just like it gets you like an aspired and you just feel good about it.
- 43:27But I'll never forget her, And I I think I told you about
- 43:30this too. Her and I did, like, uh, chiropractors, went
- 43:32to chiro therapy whatever I want to call it for like what got a good
- 43:36year year and a half a little little before the wedding, a little bit
- 43:39after, and we took a lot from it, and like we've taken some
- 43:43of that stuff. We haven't been there in a long time, but we've
- 43:45taken a lot of stuff like the stretches and like the exercise and it's really
- 43:47I'm not gonna I mean, for me personally, it's helped me a lot
- 43:51because it was like one of those things. I didn't realize I had a
- 43:52neck, I had neck issues until we started doing it, and I'm like,
- 43:57oh wait, I can't do that, Like why is that? I'll
- 44:00never forget, you know, essentially I'm breaking up all this, like I
- 44:04don't call it like that, tish, like all this like callous if you
- 44:07will, in my heck and my back and stuff like that. And all
- 44:09of a sudden, like kind of like you, I started having this like
- 44:13weird chesting going. I'm like, what the fuck is that? Right away?
- 44:15Of course is my wife or you don't make my dad tell you?
- 44:19You know, we don't go to the doctor. So it's like no,
- 44:22So I went, and I'm like, hey, what's going He goes,
- 44:24Hey, let's do some tests. I wanted to check your blood pressure.
- 44:28Okay, you're a big guy, but hey, your blood pressure's good.
- 44:30Hey what's this? Hey? You know that's pretty good too. He goes,
- 44:31nothing was. And he explained to me, And I explain to like,
- 44:35you know, it's probably just like nerves and stuff like that, because
- 44:37like you've had all this pressure in your neck and I it's just spread it
- 44:38down. I'm like really goes yeah, wow, but that's me and it
- 44:43like and I and like I've had no issues now that around like sometimes it
- 44:45happens. I'm like, what the fuck is this? But like like because
- 44:49like my chiropractor whatever, they think that the reason like I had all these
- 44:52necnsues, well, well, of course what else football? Yeah, Like
- 45:00and I'm just gonna assume because like, you know, we both pretty much
- 45:02grew up in the mid Midwest. Growing up that's a guy in Midwest.
- 45:07And I don't know, I'll be honest, I think I ate a funck
- 45:09ton. Oh fuck yeah, what did that diet consist of a lot of
- 45:15meat and cheese? Like just garbish. So like you know, you're like
- 45:20like I'm at the point where like I'm trying to realize, like I ate
- 45:24garbage for like twenty five years, like and all that garbage is building up
- 45:32in my blood. Like it's like, well, I should start eating any
- 45:38more healthy. I agreed. But that's also one of those things too,
- 45:40like you can't beat yourself about certain things because like certain things are just like
- 45:45we could have controlled were. And then again, it's not blaming her parents
- 45:47either, because like they didn't know what the hell was in some of the
- 45:50ship that was we're eating back then, you know what I mean. Like
- 45:52even now, like if you start buying this like I mean I don't,
- 46:00I mean I didn't used to check. Oh oh god, that's all I
- 46:04do now, Yeah, Like you know, at the time, I was,
- 46:07oh, like, oh this is cheaper, you know. Yeah,
- 46:09I'll grab that one, yep and just put it in the cart. No,
- 46:14And I've taken this mantra thankfully from my wife where she's always in the
- 46:19mindset like hey, look, oh wait, this is an extra dollar fifty
- 46:22or two dollars more, she calls it. She goes convenience fee, and
- 46:25then what happens because sure is shit. You read the back of a label
- 46:29and there's just some shit there that you know you don't want. We don't
- 46:37want that shit in our system. And it's just no matter what we do
- 46:44or not what we do, it's just no matter that like what we try
- 46:46to do with that shit sometimes ends up on the counter, ends up in
- 46:50our system because we might go somewhere we don't know like what they're using to
- 46:52cook our food. But no, like I agree, like since we've gotten
- 46:55older and like more, especially like supersize me, those like the ones like
- 47:00we know like what to have, what we should avoid, but sometimes you
- 47:04just can't avoid because it's just like it's part of everyday life, you know
- 47:07what I mean. Like I I never thought I was a guy that would
- 47:08read the back of a bread label. I could tell you the last time
- 47:12I had white bread other than at like a restaurant, I always get wheat
- 47:15or multi grade. So I tried to go wheat or honey wheat. And
- 47:21I know honeymoons sometimes cheap, but you know, sometimes better than going into
- 47:27the way. Oh god, well, I know, even I'm here for
- 47:30about an hour, and it's almost been an hour but we can get the
- 47:37fuck out here, because that's not that I'm getting actually, because you know
- 47:38me, me and me, I literally can't. I had drive through before
- 47:40I came on the podcast with you. Text me which place so we can
- 47:45know it might have involved a certain animal and a certain speed. If that
- 47:53kind of narrows it down. No, I'll tell you often, yeah,
- 48:04before we get out of here. You got anything you gotta want to say
- 48:06plug or promote before the out No, just actually, yeah, eat healthier,
- 48:13just at least sometimes the long terms. At any rate. That is
- 48:20uh wait ship No, no, no, do don't tell me, don't
- 48:22tell me, don't tell me. Hold on, God damn it, I
- 48:24didn't say it this week. Hold on, I literally have it on my
- 48:28phone in your context. Hold on, that is shag Zilla. I was
- 48:35waiting for it. I'll tell you off. A friend of mine gave me
- 48:37a nickname that I will not say on the podcast in a funny way.
- 48:45Any rate I could. I can hear laughing. That is shag Zilla.
- 48:55I am here. I was going to call myself O G Patron. That's
- 48:58Patrick. I have your favorite Army host whatever they called me, Chuck.
