- 6:11Speaker 3: I did when I was in high school and after
- 6:12Speaker 3: the ice Yeah, I did run when I was in
- 6:18Speaker 3: high school and then when when I've done high school.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I stopped for a little while, and then I look
- 6:24Speaker 3: at my my year, my my yearbook, and I look
- 6:28Speaker 3: at one on my page, my year bug. And one
- 6:32Speaker 3: of my teammates, right somembdy said, you need to keep
- 6:35Speaker 3: keep running, So I keep after I keep running.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Stands, I haven't stopped.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Oh do you run every day?
- 6:44Speaker 2: Almost every day?
- 6:46Speaker 1: Okay? So where where are you running? I ran from Williamstown?
- 6:54Speaker 2: That's cool?
- 6:54Speaker 1: Right? So where where do you run all over the place?
- 6:58Speaker 2: No, I have a I have a route.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I can go by myself, So I go wherever I
- 7:06Speaker 3: want to go?
- 7:07Speaker 1: All right? And how far is this route here? What
- 7:10Speaker 1: are we talking about? Like a mile?
- 7:13Speaker 2: Almoll? Look, I do like ten miles from uh one way?
- 7:18Speaker 2: And then go back to that. I went to, yes, ten.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Miles, ten miles? Yeah, well I could do more than
- 7:24Speaker 3: ten miles if I feel like it.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Really? Oh yes, that's crazy, dude, I know. Mom. So
- 7:38Speaker 1: do you know how long it takes you? Do you
- 7:40Speaker 1: do you time yourself?
- 7:42Speaker 3: I do will take me probably, I'm gonna guess maybe
- 7:46Speaker 3: two hours. Okay, Well marry less if I don't stop.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Do you do you push yourself? Do you push yourself
- 7:55Speaker 1: each time? Do you do you like, say I'm going
- 7:58Speaker 1: to try for an hour, we're in fifty three minutes.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yes, sometimes I do that, or sometime I push went
- 8:06Speaker 3: out to see how fast I go up that steep hill,
- 8:09Speaker 3: or some day I metroides. I spent myself all the
- 8:13Speaker 3: way down to steephill.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So how did you get how did you get started?
- 8:18Speaker 1: In running? Though? Like? What? What? What was the beginning
- 8:21Speaker 1: of this? Where were you?
- 8:22Speaker 2: Like?
- 8:22Speaker 1: I enjoy this?
- 8:24Speaker 2: We you?
- 8:26Speaker 3: I went to school with after you three two and
- 8:28Speaker 3: one of the person who were doing track and field,
- 8:31Speaker 3: and he asked me to join the track and field
- 8:35Speaker 3: with them. I said I need to talk to my
- 8:37Speaker 3: mom about it first and see that could be okay,
- 8:40Speaker 3: And she said yes, So that's why I shown. That's
- 8:43Speaker 3: why I joined that that CST cattering team. And I've
- 8:48Speaker 3: been running since after that.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah, whuldn't you graduate from U thirty two and four?
- 8:56Speaker 1: All right? So that was wild though? Yes, and you've
- 8:59Speaker 1: been You didn't just say okay, uh, done done with
- 9:06Speaker 1: high school, done with running? You you just kept on going. Yes,
- 9:11Speaker 1: holy crap, are you fast? Are you pretty fast?
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yes?
- 9:15Speaker 3: I am very fast. I tried to come out of
- 9:18Speaker 3: my sister to with me and she can keep up
- 9:21Speaker 3: my pace. So she tried to run, but she can't
- 9:25Speaker 3: do it.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Do you bring your pace down to uh whoever is
- 9:32Speaker 1: running with you? Or do you just try to do
- 9:41Speaker 1: that's crazy, but it's kind of harme with something.
- 9:44Speaker 3: If someone want to run behind me or beside me,
- 9:49Speaker 3: kind of diffic.
- 9:50Speaker 1: It's a pain in the ass because they're not staying
- 9:54Speaker 1: with you.
- 9:54Speaker 3: No, and I need to try to slow down. I
- 9:59Speaker 3: need to wait for it if they need to catch
- 10:02Speaker 3: up to me.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't want that, No, Yeah, of course that's awesome, dude. Listen, man,
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'll tell you right now, there are so many people
- 10:12Speaker 1: that are really excited and happy for you. I mean
- 10:15Speaker 1: pretty much everybody at Washington County Mental Health Oh yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 1: is freaking out about this. I mean they're just so excited, dude.
- 10:24Speaker 1: You know. And and then you got You've got all
- 10:26Speaker 1: your your your fans, Oh yeah, you get your family,
- 10:29Speaker 1: you got you got so many friends. I know, this
- 10:33Speaker 1: is going to be amazing. So all right, let's see here,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I pulled it up. Uh, it's going to be one
- 10:38Speaker 1: of the biggest sporting events in the country. The National
- 10:44Speaker 1: Special Olympics competition competition June twentieth through the twenty sixth.
- 10:50Speaker 1: That's like really soon here, dude, it is I mean
- 10:54Speaker 1: you know that. Yes, that's really that's coming up fast.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Twin Cities, Mini Pless, Saint Paul, Minnesota. Yes, ever been there? No,
- 11:04Speaker 1: I have not. The events are primarily going to be
- 11:09Speaker 1: at the University of Minnesota and the National Sports Center
- 11:15Speaker 1: and plane more than three thousand, three to four thousand athletes.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Oh yes, but diffend uh dippen, who are going to
- 11:25Speaker 2: be there from.
- 11:26Speaker 1: All fifty states? Yes, this is amazing. What else do
- 11:33Speaker 1: we have here? Volunteers in nearly twenty Olympic style sports,
- 11:40Speaker 1: the volunteers. Where do you see this? Ten thousand plus
- 11:46Speaker 1: volunteers are going to be part of this to pull
- 11:49Speaker 1: this thing off. Yes, that's not real man, And Vermont
- 11:55Speaker 1: is going to be well represented. You said it's going
- 11:58Speaker 1: to be you and three others, three other from Honors.
- 12:03Speaker 3: And more people from beside me. There could be a
- 12:07Speaker 3: lot of people from using game beside me who are
- 12:12Speaker 3: doing dragon field. There's a couple people who are doing swimming.
- 12:14Speaker 3: There's a couple of people who are doing basketball and
- 12:18Speaker 3: they are team fromont So yes.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's really cool. From Mont's got its own delegation.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Oh yes, wow, the coaches, the volunteers, I mean, everybody
- 12:31Speaker 1: that's involved with this is really something else, and especially
- 12:37Speaker 1: those that are representing the Green Mountain State on the
- 12:40Speaker 1: national stage. Are there any coaches or anyone that you
- 12:44Speaker 1: want to give a shout out to.
- 12:48Speaker 3: I'm just shout out to all my coaches from the
- 12:50Speaker 3: high school. Old coacher who did help me compee with
- 12:56Speaker 3: dragon Field around here.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Yeah, so yes, do you know any do you want
- 13:03Speaker 1: to mention any of their names?
- 13:05Speaker 3: M yeah, I get to name two of them from
- 13:08Speaker 3: the high school on Monk chaulnn and goat the topping.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Okay, I'm just I'm just trying to get some ticket
- 13:17Speaker 1: information here too. I'll post this all up. But the
- 13:20Speaker 1: opening ceremony could be a major, major deal. Yes, Demi Levado,
- 13:27Speaker 1: I heard, I heard She's gonna She's gonna do the
- 13:31Speaker 1: opening ceremony. Yes, that's freaking awesome, dude, along with John Batiste.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Huntington Bank Stadium is where that uh, that opening ceremony
- 13:44Speaker 1: is gonna be Ever been a big stadium like this before?
- 13:46Speaker 2: No, I have not.
- 13:49Speaker 1: It's gonna be loud, Yes, it's going to be amazing.
- 13:53Speaker 1: What kind of butterflies are flapping around in your belly
- 13:57Speaker 1: over doing these events here? You know you're gonna be
- 14:00Speaker 1: running in front of a lot of people, a lot
- 14:03Speaker 1: of people. This is a really big deal man. All right,
- 14:07Speaker 1: I want to know what what kind of running races
- 14:11Speaker 1: you said you're gonna do? Three?
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yes, all right?
- 14:14Speaker 1: The first one is what the four hundred four hundred?
- 14:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the hop from not to the finish line.
- 14:23Speaker 3: That's once. And then the Henry you have to do twice,
- 14:27Speaker 3: and whant to track you to pace yourself and make
- 14:30Speaker 3: sure you don't go to different.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Lane.
- 14:34Speaker 3: If you do, you get gudified, okay. And then the
- 14:37Speaker 3: fifty you have to do same thing with fifty hundred
- 14:39Speaker 3: you had to do there's four laps more than four laps, okay,
- 14:45Speaker 3: and you have to make sure you have to pace yourself.
- 14:48Speaker 3: If you don't pay your say you, you will lose
- 14:52Speaker 3: all your energy up to the end.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Yeah, these are all very different races. The four hundred
- 14:59Speaker 1: is more of of like a sprint. And will you
- 15:02Speaker 1: have an adequate amount of time to rest up before
- 15:04Speaker 1: you run?
- 15:05Speaker 2: I don't know. I had to Wednesday when I get there.
- 15:08Speaker 3: But again I I hope I could rest avery five
- 15:13Speaker 3: minutes to go to my next compete, but again I
- 15:15Speaker 3: don't know.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, and then the the fifteen hundred is is
- 15:24Speaker 1: totally different too. So yes, you want to come out
- 15:27Speaker 1: of the chute, go, you know, get a jump on it.
- 15:29Speaker 1: But then get into a groove, get into a rhythm.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Like you have to make sure you don't go do slow,
- 15:37Speaker 3: don't go way fat. Just try to pace yourself the
- 15:40Speaker 3: whole way to the fish line.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And you you know where that threshold is. You you
- 15:49Speaker 1: you you're paying attention to your body. Yep, you're breathing,
- 15:56Speaker 1: and you know where you're You're your threshold is. You
- 16:01Speaker 1: know where where to go?
- 16:01Speaker 3: I know when my limit is. Yes, yeah, so if
- 16:05Speaker 3: I go really fast, not me.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I need to.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Till my body needs to slow down. I need to
- 16:11Speaker 3: keep my pace down to make sure I don't lose
- 16:16Speaker 3: all my breath, I lose all my energy before the
- 16:19Speaker 3: end on my face.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Geez giving you a shout out here he says you
- 16:23Speaker 1: can run.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Oh yes, he knows that run. Everybody knows that can run.
- 16:29Speaker 1: But listen, I'm gonna be honest with you, Okay, I've
- 16:34Speaker 1: known you for a long time, Yes you have, but
- 16:39Speaker 1: I did not know that you're a runner. No, I
- 16:44Speaker 1: didn't know that about you. And you know this is
- 16:48Speaker 1: what I do know about runners though. Runners have an
- 16:53Speaker 1: incredible amount of self discipline and mind control. You have
- 17:02Speaker 1: to be.
- 17:04Speaker 3: You had to be focused because yeah, again, I I
- 17:08Speaker 3: block all the noise around me and design like fun
- 17:13Speaker 3: of me and behind me and insign me. I if
- 17:17Speaker 3: I hear, if I if I don't hear people the audience,
- 17:20Speaker 3: And you did a good job.
- 17:21Speaker 2: You keep going on. Just look, I just now listen
- 17:25Speaker 2: to all the voice. I just be focused and see
- 17:30Speaker 2: what I need to be I need to do.
- 17:32Speaker 1: So you have to be mentally very strong disciplined because
- 17:39Speaker 1: it's it's a it's a psychological sport running. It's because
- 17:45Speaker 1: you can get things scrolling around in your head. Oh
- 17:47Speaker 1: my god, you know, uh, I'm not doing as well
- 17:51Speaker 1: as I hope to or whatever, and then next thing
- 17:54Speaker 1: you know, your legs are are are showing that. So
- 17:58Speaker 1: you have to, like you say, you have to block
- 18:01Speaker 1: out a lot of stuff, including the runners that are
- 18:04Speaker 1: around you. Oh yeah, and you know this from track
- 18:08Speaker 1: and field? Are you know this from uh?
- 18:11Speaker 3: What?
- 18:11Speaker 1: Do you call it which you did at you thirty two?
- 18:13Speaker 2: What's dug field? And the same?
- 18:15Speaker 1: Yeah, what's it called there? When you're running long distance?
- 18:22Speaker 1: When you're running long distance there you were you were
- 18:24Speaker 1: saying that you thirty two, you did that? What is
- 18:26Speaker 1: that called again?
- 18:27Speaker 2: There were almost like, no, what is that?
- 18:30Speaker 1: When they're running cross country?
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yes? Cross country?
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, when you're running cross country.
- 18:35Speaker 2: You have to do the same You have to do
- 18:36Speaker 2: the same thing too.
- 18:37Speaker 3: You have to if someone like if people on on
- 18:40Speaker 3: the side, you have to cheer you on.
- 18:42Speaker 2: You still need to somehow to plug to now, listen to.
- 18:47Speaker 1: People, listen to your body. Yeah, and and not starting
- 18:55Speaker 1: freaking out if somebody passes you. Just stay focused this,
- 19:00Speaker 1: don't get discouraged.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Now and then do you try to do your best
- 19:04Speaker 3: if you can't, if you can't make it to the
- 19:07Speaker 3: French line, at least you try to go to the
- 19:10Speaker 3: French line.
- 19:11Speaker 1: You know what? Do you know why? Part of the
- 19:12Speaker 1: reason why I'm not a runner. We talk about mental toughness.
- 19:18Speaker 3: It's hard for your body because your body is yeah,
- 19:22Speaker 3: saying you're doing different exercises you haven't done before, right.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I would have somebody past me if I was doing
- 19:32Speaker 1: a cross country and I would in my mind, I'd
- 19:35Speaker 1: be going in front of a bitch and then next thing,
- 19:39Speaker 1: you know, you know, I would be slowing down. And
- 19:43Speaker 1: you can't do that.
- 19:44Speaker 2: No, you can't.
- 19:45Speaker 1: You have to stay focused.
- 19:48Speaker 2: And always focus.
- 19:49Speaker 3: If you're doing any kind of events like again, cross
- 19:54Speaker 3: country on the trail and cross country skiing. There's the
- 19:59Speaker 3: same thing. Same thing on with skis too.
- 20:02Speaker 1: In cycling, any kind of especially in endurance sport. Wow, dude,
- 20:11Speaker 1: this is really something else. Three to four thousand athletes
- 20:16Speaker 1: from all fifty states in Minneapolis St. Paul, Minnesota, track
- 20:24Speaker 1: and field, swimming, basketball, soccer, flag football, gymnastics, bowling, golf, powerlifting, volleyball,
- 20:35Speaker 1: and so much more. Amazing. I'll put the official website
- 20:42Speaker 1: up here too. Is this gonna be oh, the official
- 20:47Speaker 1: YouTube channel too. I'm going to drop that in the
- 20:49Speaker 1: comments right here. Do you know subscribing if this is
- 20:55Speaker 1: going to be broadcast anywhere on TV or an thin?
- 21:01Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Okay, we got to find out. Somebody will find out
- 21:06Speaker 1: for me. I'm sure Gee will probably. But yeah, he says,
- 21:10Speaker 1: you're very focused on your running. You've been running for uh,
- 21:14Speaker 1: every day for years oh, yes, you ever get some injuries?
- 21:23Speaker 1: What are they? What are they? I'm just trying to
- 21:25Speaker 1: remember from high school here shin splints.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Yes, I have and I haven't. The last I want
- 21:32Speaker 3: did my cross country running on the trail. I this's
- 21:36Speaker 3: when my my back on my leg and I said, oh,
- 21:40Speaker 3: I guess I need to stop. And so yes, I
- 21:43Speaker 3: have insured myselfie forre and I need to listen to
- 21:46Speaker 3: my body.
- 21:46Speaker 2: So yeah, it's not easy to do.
- 21:49Speaker 3: But again you need to try to listen to your
- 21:53Speaker 3: body with your body and say you need to stop
- 21:55Speaker 3: and rest.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. So when you run these uh these ten
- 22:02Speaker 1: mile practice training, Yes, you said you do stop every
- 22:11Speaker 1: now and then I do, okay ten miles. So is
- 22:16Speaker 1: how do you how do you? Where do you? Do
- 22:18Speaker 1: you have? Like water that you're carrying with you?
- 22:21Speaker 2: I did? I drink a lot of before I go,
- 22:22Speaker 2: and I drink a while when I come back.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Oh my god, yeah, I would be drinking water everything
- 22:29Speaker 1: this minute. It's crazy speaking of water. Joe Edson just
- 22:37Speaker 1: commented here saying, JD, you and I would be better
- 22:41Speaker 1: off handing out water. God, is that the truth? How
- 22:48Speaker 1: have your knees been and it's been good.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't bother me all.
