- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me, covering one piece
- 0:11episodes four eighty seven through four eighty nine. The Insatiable a Kayinu love a
- 0:17fists pummel Loofy, the desperate scream, courageous moments that will change the future,
- 0:25and here comes Shanks. The War of the Best is finally over in
- 0:32these episodes. Yeah, so Shanks shows up just in time to save Kobe's
- 0:38life because Kobe's having a little bit of a nervous breakdown, and honestly,
- 0:45I don't blame him at all. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the
- 1:07show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to Florian for commissioning
- 1:14this episode, and also thank you to Florian for allowing me to move this
- 1:19episode. Originally it was going to be tomorrow. I the full disclosure,
- 1:23guys, I moved it to the wrong day, so I wound up screwing
- 1:26everything up anyway, But it does. It just didn't matter in the end,
- 1:30so it's fine. I have so many questions about what's going on with
- 1:37Kobe, everyone. I have so many questions about it. I'm actually pretty
- 1:42stoked about it, I'll be honest, because like, Okay, So there's
- 1:47a couple things. One it could be that what's happening with Kobe isn't a
- 1:53superpower that because like the way that this world works, it's so so heightened
- 2:01that there are times where people can do things that in the real world would
- 2:07be seen as an actual superpower, but in their world it's simply sort of
- 2:12like, oh, they just got so upset that this miracle basically happened,
- 2:17or they were possessed with like the power of honor, or you know what
- 2:23I mean, Like there is a sort of emotion defying physics that happens.
- 2:32And so there was a part of me at first that kind of thought when
- 2:37he was initially on the ground and shaking and upset, that it was just
- 2:42the sheer reaction to the brutality of everything and this feeling of like won't it
- 2:47ever be over? Like you know, when do we stop? The cycle
- 2:52just goes on and on and on. And I was fine with that if
- 2:59that were what it was going to be. Now though, I'm starting to
- 3:04wonder if there isn't like something else going on, and I really can't,
- 3:09like I want it, if I'm gonna if I'm gonna be just totally like
- 3:16straightforward with you guys. I want it to be a superpower because I would
- 3:27like Kobe to have leveled up. It's seeming as if Helmepo isn't in the
- 3:36same place as him, And I don't know if it's like, you know
- 3:39that Kobe has developed some ability that Helmepo hasn't. If it's that they each
- 3:46have different gifts, you know, if Helmepo has been straight up sort of
- 3:51left behind, and you know what I'm gonna look because like Florian sent me
- 4:01a message on the discord and I only saw it like just before I was
- 4:05beginning, so I didn't get a chance to reply. But he said that
- 4:10he was going to make a change to the character list and he didn't want
- 4:13me to read it until after I watched the episodes. So let me go
- 4:15and see, because I bet that they are the change yep Okay, here
- 4:23it is Kobe and Halmepo, and then it says some of the six powers
- 4:30like shave or iron body. Interesting, So the six powers. I don't
- 4:40think there's anybody here today in the audience, which is a shame because I
- 4:45have a lot of questions and maybe I wouldn't be able to get answers,
- 4:49but I would like to just be able to ask, you know, But
- 4:54I really have this whole arc, there has been a big part of me
- 5:00going, what is the deal with Kobe being somebody that we keep cutting to
- 5:06and then nothing seems to happen with him, Like why do we just have
- 5:14to screw up the momentum of the episode by cutting away to a person who
- 5:18seems to really otherwise not have much to do with anything, you know,
- 5:26And now it feels like this is why, I'll be honest, this is
- 5:32a difficult thing because they are not still very involved. They become I say
- 5:40they I'm kind of categorizing Kobe and Helmepo as being like one person at this
- 5:46point, which I know isn't really fair, but like, functionally in the
- 5:48story, that's how it's been, so I'm just gonna go with that.
- 5:54But then Kobe winds up being so important to like grinding everything to a halt
- 6:01that I can see how difficult it would be as a writer to keep them
- 6:06at the top of our minds and aware that like we that they're here,
- 6:13but also not like, because you can't just have somebody come out the gate
- 6:20after we don't see them for several episodes and they just yell everybody stop,
- 6:27and it doesn't feel weird, Like it would be really unnatural if they didn't
- 6:34have anything with how Mepo and Kobe at all, and then Kobe does what
- 6:39he does. So you've got to find a balance, and it's just part
- 6:44of the symptom of the issue with the show having to drag things out the
- 6:49way that it does. I just straight up, guys, I really really
- 6:57hope that The Lie live action is continued and renewed for like season after season
- 7:06after season, because I really I feel like the bones of one piece of
- 7:14the original series are so solid, but it needs like a renovation because it's
- 7:20it's like a house that's like got still amazing structure to the like it's you
- 7:28know, the integrity of it, but it was built so long ago that
- 7:32rooms are placed in spots that don't make a lot of sense. Like the
- 7:35flow of the house just feels not modern, and there's just a lot of
- 7:43like like I know, you're attached to this wallpaper because so and so put
- 7:48it up, but you've got to face facts. It just doesn't work,
- 7:50and you know what I mean, Like the live action is really getting to
- 8:00take some of these storylines and just edit them so so tightly that I'm really
- 8:05excited about it, and I just want, I really want that to continue.
- 8:09I'm so worried that Netflix is gonna do what they fucking do, and
- 8:15that they're gonna like get to the second season and then cancel it or third
- 8:20season and then cancel it, and it's just gonna have been like something that
- 8:22they almost allowed to really like flourish, but it never really got its chance.
- 8:30So just, you know, everybody like pour one out for the gods
- 8:35of Netflix and hoping that if we make this sacrifice, they'll keep the show
- 8:39going and long enough that we can actually begin to see the potential come to
- 8:43fruition there, because the first season was just so great and I this arc
- 8:52I could see being something that if you cut it down and the way that
- 8:56they have developed Kobe into a main character in the live action that this could
- 9:03work really, really well, and I wouldn't be asking the question, why
- 9:09do we keep cutting over to these two there's nothing happening with them, because
- 9:13it wouldn't have to happen once every ten minutes over the course of like eleven
- 9:18episodes in a Row. So anyway, the thing with Kobe as well,
- 9:26and I know I have to start back at the four eighty seven and like,
- 9:30you know, kind of backtrack after I talk about this, but I
- 9:35just wanted to mention this out of the gate for like my own personal sort
- 9:39of I have. This isn't I don't want to say that what the statement
- 9:48I am about to make is always true across the board. I know that
- 9:54there are exceptions. However, often times when there is a character who is
- 10:03sort of overwhelmed by the violence, you know, the needless killing and the
- 10:13endless cycle that seems impossible to break from. And often when there is a
- 10:20character who can like sense the emotions and reactions of the people around them to
- 10:31the point where they begin to sort of like lose it, that is so
- 10:37often a woman. It is so frequently a female character, and there is
- 10:46just I don't think I realized how bored of that I was until this.
- 10:54I just really appreciate it being Kobe, that this is happening to you,
- 11:01and there is a the fact that Kobe has been a really sensitive kind of
- 11:11character from the beginning. It works. It I like, I feel like
- 11:18this makes a lot of sense as far as it being like the six powers
- 11:22that's mentioned in the chart that Florian gave me, I don't remember those powers
- 11:28and what they entail, and I don't know if what he's experiencing in these
- 11:33episodes Kobe is part of that or if that if it's a separate thing.
- 11:39It's certainly possible. Guys, forgive me that this has been something we've seen
- 11:43before and I have just forgotten, you know how it is with the series
- 11:46going this long, like just everybody like, cut me some slack. I'm
- 11:52just like arguing with a straw man over here. Nobody is yelling at me,
- 11:54and yet I'm preemptively being like, don't yell at me. You know,
- 11:58it's anxiety. But if it turned out that Kobe was able to do
- 12:09something sort of like mind read, or at least when everybody's like their emotions
- 12:18are really high, that he could sense things, thus making him sort of
- 12:24the voice of reason in the midst of stuff, I would think that fascinating.
- 12:30I would actually be really really into that as a way for his character
- 12:35to not only be useful, and you know, I don't want to be
- 12:41a shit, but he hasn't done a lot, so we need to give
- 12:46him a job. But also that is something that could potentially if he is
- 12:52still insisting on staying with the Marines, which it seems he is, tragically,
- 13:00maybe he could be somebody who reigns in the Marine's bloodthirsty approach to everything.
- 13:11Now I also have to address that acab and you know, one person
- 13:20deciding that maybe we shouldn't just keep murdering forever isn't going to fix a system
- 13:24as broken as the Marines are, the same way that like a good cop
- 13:30in the system can't fix the corrupt justice system. It just doesn't work.
- 13:35I sympathize with thinking we could change things from the inside. I really understand
- 13:41why you would believe you could do that, But it doesn't work. It
- 13:46doesn't work, like it's been shown time and time again. So I'm hoping
- 13:54that if we let that be a thing in this universe, maybe he can
- 14:01make a difference, because we are in a different universe here than reality,
- 14:05and maybe this is a place where one person can make a change and it
- 14:11would actually help I just you know, I would love that. Let's live
- 14:16in that fantasy. So I just wanted to really address him out of the
- 14:24gate because I was the thing with him again, it does get drawn out
- 14:30a lot. You know, he's on the ground, gripping his head and
- 14:33he's hearing voices and you don't know what's going on, and it lasts such
- 14:35a long time. At first, I thought it was just him sort of
- 14:39like having like memories rushing back, Like I thought that he was reacting to
- 14:46the thought of how people had been acting from the start of this battle.
- 14:52And then once it began to sink in for me that this was all going
- 14:56on currently, and it was like he was it's I say, like reading
- 15:03thoughts. I said that earlier, and I know that's not exactly accurate because
- 15:07what he's hearing in the context of what's going on, it all sounds like
- 15:13it's actually being spoken aloud. It doesn't feel like he's hearing thoughts, not
- 15:20really, so I know that that is sort of a misnomer. But he
- 15:24has a sort of like an ability to hear beyond when he should be able
- 15:33to or where. You know, it's so difficult for me to like describe
- 15:37because I'm sure that there is a actual word for this type of power,
- 15:46and I am just not thinking of it because I'm like not, I don't
- 15:52actually you would think that with the amount of fantasy that I covered that I
- 15:54would be more familiar with this sort of thing. But actually it's Owen who
- 16:00reads a ton of comic books, and he's the one that's like always on
- 16:04top of the names of different powers and stuff because he has run across it
- 16:08so much in comics. So it's you know, for me, I just
- 16:14kind of nod and go, oh, yeah, that you know, but
- 16:17I don't remember what they're called. So all right, let's let's back up
- 16:22now and we'll go to forty seven. Fucking Teach is still like this,
- 16:30dude. It's kind of funny, like eventually he realizes I am creating total
- 16:34mayhem here, and maybe I should just like back off and get my powers
- 16:41more under control so that we know what's actually going on and I can do
- 16:47some things effectively without killing all of my own allies. And that's sort of
- 16:51what, you know. I really want to know how they found out about
- 16:59whatever this technique is that allowed him to take the devil Fruit power from Whitebeard,
- 17:07because it seems almost like he didn't know how it was gonna work once
- 17:14he did it. I won't say that it seemed like he wasn't sure if
- 17:18it was gonna work, because that isn't true. I think they were pretty
- 17:22fucking confident. They seem to know that shit would work. So you get
- 17:29the sense that Teach isn't prepared to be this clumsy with it. There is
- 17:37a point when he is like breaking the walls of this place apart, and
- 17:41one of the Marines is like, the pirates have taken everything. We have
- 17:48this symbol of our strength. It's a nightmare, and I love it because
- 17:52everybody is fleeing except this one marine who's just stopping and watching and staring at
- 17:57the building that's breaking apart. And this is like what it comes down to
- 18:07a little bit later, is when everybody is like, all right, well,
- 18:12what does this come down to? You have Oh my god, sungoku.
- 18:22I think it's him who specifically says the whole point of like this stronghold
- 18:30is for it to be a symbol of our power in the Marines, like
- 18:34as the Navy, we have other headquarters, we have other strongholds, but
- 18:41this one is like I think he says, dead center in the world.
- 18:47So I can't remember how he worded it. And basically, it's like meant
- 18:53to be a sort of beacon. He describes it as, so that our
- 18:56light can shine into every corner, which is just it's really funny because like
- 19:03they are so shitty. I really want to see out like a reformed version
- 19:14of the Marines, but I don't even know what that would look like and
- 19:17how I could believe it. It's just an interesting thing in this series because
- 19:21like it really feels as if we've got extremely black and white good guy bad
- 19:26guy stuff, but then you've got Teach, who's a pirate being very bad.
- 19:30Like we have definitely had pirates who we don't want to be allied with,
- 19:37and if it were between them and the Marines, you don't know what
- 19:41you would do, because like they both suck in their own ways, And
- 19:47that's sort of what makes it fun, right, Like somebody like Buggy Loofy
- 19:52teams up with Buggy and manages to get out of the prison and break it.
- 19:56Well, he would have broken a side if things had gone down differently,
- 20:00So there is a sense of like even the ones that are real rascals
- 20:07and bad guys aren't so irredeemable that you can't work with them sometimes, But
- 20:14then there's guys like Teach, who I feel this dude is just off his
- 20:18rocker. I just don't think there's reasoning with a man like this. I
- 20:22don't think you can team up with him, even temporarily and his allies.
- 20:30It just feels sort of this Like I feel the same way about all of
- 20:33them in that the only reason that they are teamed up as of right now
- 20:40is because they have powers they feel like nobody can stand up to and they
- 20:47need to out align with other people who are as formidable. But I have
- 20:52to imagine that the second they're going to get a chance to stab each other
- 20:56in the back, that's going to be it for them. Like, I
- 20:56don't think they're a crew at this point. Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe I'm
- 21:03wrong about it. I don't know, but yeah, so the you know,
- 21:11teaches like whole uh threat I guess you would say for this episode is
- 21:19that he is going to give Marine Ford a burial at sea. And this
- 21:26is when Sengoku comes down in his like weird golden Buddha form and slams into
- 21:33him, and he gives the speech about how we'll rebuild whatever it is that
- 21:38you tear down. But this island is different. It's more than a symbol
- 21:45of our strength. It stands in the center of the world, and that
- 21:51means if we want to protect innocent people from criminals such as yourself, it
- 21:56must be our stronghold. So this is something that sort of begins to answer
- 22:04the question I have been asking this whole time about what is Marine Ford.
- 22:11Is it all like a floating island? Is it an island that's just covered
- 22:18from wall to wall with stone and buildings? What is the deal with this
- 22:25place? And he calls it an island, But the way that he reacts
- 22:33to teach, his threat about giving it a burial at sea leads me to
- 22:36believe that if he were to break up the building, that's also breaking up
- 22:41the foundations of the island. And I believe that's what we're doing here is
- 22:47like the island and the buildings are so intrinsically melded together by this point that
- 22:53he would be like wiping a whole piece of land off the map if he
- 22:59were to do what he can with his new tremor powers. So Sengoku here
- 23:07is still in his gold form, and his speech about standing up to him
- 23:14and whatnot is inspiring all of the other troops. A lot of the Marines
- 23:18had been looking pretty grim and seeming to like feel as if there was just
- 23:23no hope, So why bother You saw a bunch of them like sort of
- 23:27collapsed on the sidelines and feeling overwhelmed and hopeless. And now they begin to
- 23:34stand up in response to what Sengoku is saying. And I just want to
- 23:40register once again some disappointment in Sengoku's power. I don't know if it's just
- 23:45that I haven't gotten to see what it's truly capable of yet, and that's
- 23:49why it feels sort of like a letdown for me. But he just is
- 23:56not like it just looked. It's like he can get really big, and
- 24:03that is not that is not that interesting. I really want there to be
- 24:08more that he can do with this and other than just like be intimidating,
- 24:17which it feels like is the primary purpose, you know. But yeah,
- 24:22so all of the Marines are just like, yeah, that's right, We're
- 24:26gonna take these assholes down. It's our job as Marines. We're gonna like
- 24:30handle these guys. Now's our chance. We'll show every criminal what happens when
- 24:36you defy the law. We'll let the whole world know that justice will prevail.
- 24:44And as they are saying all of this, we see a bunch of
- 24:48the like the pirates, who are trying to get out, like I believe,
- 24:56they are just trying to flee the area and get back to their ship,
- 25:00and they get stopped by the Marines and by Kiseru, who it's just
- 25:08a really bummer move because like, yeah, you could just let them go,
- 25:14you could just let it be, like all right, so you're kind
- 25:18of you're not surrendering but fleeing at this point, Yeah, you've won.
- 25:26Can you just leave it alone? But they can't. They have to prove
- 25:30their point. And as all of this is happening, by the way we
- 25:37have Eva is like saying to Jimbay that we bought you some time. Because
- 25:45Jimbay is still out here trying to get Loofy away from the island, and
- 25:51he eventually manages it. You know, of course he does. Lufy is
- 25:56just fucking out of it the whole time. I am still so shocked,
- 26:00guys that him being catatonic and just being carried away is actually what happened.
- 26:07I just I didn't mean it when I said it. I just didn't really
- 26:11mean it. I felt like it would have worked, you know, but
- 26:15it didn't. I should have known because of the fact that he has to
- 26:22be taken out of the game so often that that was likely to be what
- 26:26we went with here, but uh, you know. Yeah. Anyway,
- 26:32so this is when we have Eva fighting who is she akainuh the fight with
- 26:40Akainu. Like, Eva's using that weird sort of glove power that makes that
- 26:45turns him into like Wolverine for a second, and I was pretty impressed with
- 26:52it actually, Like I feel like Eva is always able to pull something out
- 26:56that I didn't expect. Their keeps being surprising twists in what his powers are,
- 27:03so every time that we go over to him, it's just so different
- 27:07than some of the other character's powers. Where I am sitting here looking at
- 27:12Sengoku like, bitch, you're big and your gold very very exciting, And
- 27:18then we go over to Eva and I'm like, oh shit, I don't
- 27:22know we could do that. That's cool. However, his beautiful nails do
- 27:26get melted. And this is when Akayinu says, I'd heard your techniques were
- 27:32eccentric, and that certainly seems to be the case. And this is when
- 27:40Eva says esthetic technique fat suctioning fist. I can't. I had never even
- 27:48thought about it, but all like the fact that a lot of Eva's powers
- 27:56have to do with like hormone injections and stuff, I didn't consider just plastic
- 28:02surgery as well, just like you know, a variety of sort of surgical
- 28:07medical procedures. So yeah, Eva like going for him, and I'm really
- 28:15thinking that he's gonna do something, that this is gonna be like a fucking
- 28:19win a moment, you know, And instead a Kayinu punches Eva in the
- 28:26face and just sends him flying and it looks really, really bad. I
- 28:33didn't love this. I was really bummed about it. It's not like,
- 28:38you know, it's not like he's dead or anything, but I just really
- 28:45love Eva and I want him protected at all costs. I do enjoy when
- 28:51he says that his face is melting, and then he says, oh,
- 28:53that's not my face, that's just my garish makeup and manages to pull all
- 28:59of it off in one he's like an actual mask, but is then simply
- 29:03standing there in the midst of real fire, realizing like oh shit, oh
- 29:08shit, wait a second. He goes down and the other pirates are like
- 29:17trying to get into help, but they're blocked by all of these flames.
- 29:21And in the midst of it is akay you just looking very intimidating, saying
- 29:27who's next, And I will say, aka you. I don't like him,
- 29:38I don't respect him, but I will admire that this man is as
- 29:47unstoppable as like Jason Voorhees. There just seems to be something about him that
- 29:55cannot be stopped. He's like some sort of autumn maton and is so fixated
- 30:03on what he sets out to do that it's just like he bowls through anything
- 30:11in his path to get it done, and it really sucks when you don't
- 30:17want him to succeed, how single minded he is. So this is the
- 30:22point where we get our first check in with Holmepo and Kobe, and Kobe
- 30:26is saying, I don't get it, like we've won. I know they're
- 30:30pirates, but like, isn't enough enough? And he literally uses the word
- 30:36overkill, which it's so funny because I don't think of that word as being
- 30:41what it is, but you know, whenever I hear it used, it's
- 30:45always meant to be a metaphor. But that's like very literally what's happening now
- 30:51is we are overdoing the killing. So this is when we have the whole
- 30:59beginning of the breakdowns starting to happen. As he's like asking this question and
- 31:03looking around at the men that are still fighting and the bloodshed, he is
- 31:11starting to really lose it. And how MEPO is like, dude, what
- 31:15is going on? And when he says at one point like I can hear
- 31:18voices, you can see him up of being like what, like he does
- 31:22not know what to do with this information. Jimbay is out here like,
- 31:27all right, so I can't fight a lot of these guys on land,
- 31:33but I am going to get into the water and they won't be able to
- 31:37be a match for me. There. Akayinu is like after him in mid
- 31:44air and jimb punches him even though he's lava, and it doesn't do anything.
- 31:49I was surprised that Akaynu or that jimbe even bothered to like try and
- 31:55punch him, But I guess, you know, I guess, like you
- 32:00gotta try and do something. He hits gripped up Bayaka you knew who then
- 32:04scorches a hole right through Jimbei's middle And this is the moment where Lufy's hat
- 32:10falls off, and I just really want to point out that Jimbay has got
- 32:15a hole in his gut, but the camera pulls away from that to focus
- 32:21on Lufy's hat blowing away. I understand that this hat is important, but
- 32:28Jimbay has a hole in his gut, a big one. Why are you
- 32:37not more concerned about it? Like, I don't think he's going to die,
- 32:43but I really resented the fact that we then took a moment to go
- 32:46follow the hat. That is not what I'm concerned about right now, just
- 32:51speaking for me, And even like the guys on the sidelines are like,
- 32:55oh, it went straight through him. It may have hit straw, And
- 33:00I was like, can't it just have going like, maybe gone straight through
- 33:06him be bad enough? But yeah, so JIMBEI finally like he's he took
- 33:12a leap, a very litteral leap, because what he wanted was to get
- 33:16in the water, his own element and be able to face this guy.
- 33:21But the fucking water was still frozen down there, and he winds up landing
- 33:29hard on the ice. He lets go of Loofy, and Loofy does have
- 33:37some pretty serious damage. He doesn't have a hole in him, but it's
- 33:40definitely like a pretty bad burn. I have to mention this one little thing
- 33:46here. As Akaynu is walking towards Jimbei, he has one hand out in
- 33:52front of him that's molten, and there is this cool moment where the lava,
- 34:00magma, whatever dripping off of his hand is hitting the ice and then
- 34:07immediately cooling into these little spikes because of like the pattern and how it falls
- 34:14in the way that it freezes up right away. And I just thought that
- 34:17was like a really neat little detail. So yeah, a Kaynu comes down
- 34:25here to meet up with Jimbei, who is like so devastated that he feels
- 34:30like he failed Loofy and is apologizing for not upholding his vow and he stands
- 34:37up or he starts to, but really what he's the most concerned about is
- 34:42being a human shield between Lufy and Akaynu. Like he wants to if he
- 34:49can't actually get Lufy out of there, he wants to be able to say
- 34:54that he gave up his life doing his best to protect Loufy. And and
- 35:00it's just really sad because like Jimbay is a little bit of a He's a
- 35:07very serious character. I was gonna call him a stick in the mud.
- 35:09That's unfair, that's too harsh. But I have grown to see him as
- 35:17sort of the clutch guy, you know, when every other person seems to
- 35:22have been like laid out, jimbe is out here stepping into the cut and
- 35:27just really taking over and making it happen. So seeing him laying there with
- 35:32his eyes all white was really a bummer. I started to wonder if we
- 35:37were actually going to get another death, and I was surprised at how bummed
- 35:44I felt at the idea of him dying. And he has this moment where
- 35:49he's like remembering conversation that he had with Ace, which inspires him to really
- 35:58like struggle to get to his feet again and face a Kayanu, who I
- 36:02will say, I kind of like that. Akayanu is so like unwilling to
- 36:07let things just be dramatic for the sake of it. Like he goes to
- 36:14strike out at JIMBEI right away. He isn't waiting to let this man gain
- 36:19his feet. He's just going for it in a way that feels a lot
- 36:22more true to like how a real fight should go. So I kind of
- 36:27enjoyed that, and he is about to hit Jimbae and here comes fucking Crocodile,
- 36:37and he is just basically to Jimbay, like, if you're gonna do
- 36:43this shit and get this kid out of here, fucking go get it done.
- 36:49If you're gonna protect someone and do it right, I don't like either
- 36:52of you, but if you screw this up, then you let the navy
- 36:57win. So so I really enjoy anytime that Crocodile is like over here managing
- 37:06to be an unexpected like thorn in everybody's side. It's just fun, you
- 37:14know, because he really does feel like an agent of chaos, even though
- 37:20his actions aren't that chaotic. It seems like they're chaotic, but if you
- 37:25step back and look at it, it all actually falls in line. It
- 37:30makes sense. Oh my god, I forgot about Buggy apologizing to all his
- 37:37pirates and saying, you guys, I'm so sorry. I'm just the King
- 37:42of disappointment. And as he's floating in mid air apologizing to all of them,
- 37:49Jimbay smashes into them and it all comes together to look like he managed
- 37:57to catch them, like this was all a part. He wasn't running,
- 38:01he was just looking for straw hat because all the glory in the world means
- 38:06nothing compared to the life of an old friend. And all of the prisoners
- 38:10begin crying. His heart's as pure as a baby lamb. And then you
- 38:21cut up to Buggy who's in the air, and he says, I can't
- 38:24hear what they're saying, but I bet it's stupid. Oh you guys,
- 38:32that fucking really that was a good joke, just like everybody just falling all
- 38:39over themselves to be like flattering and him just being like, oh, these
- 38:45fucking warns, what are they doing? So he's like holding onto the two
- 38:49of them and is like, why are they even up here? And why
- 38:52is it suddenly hot? And then he turns and he sees a giant magma
- 38:59fist coming in their direction, and Jim Bay is like, thank you for
- 39:05saving our lives. But Buggy didn't mean to do that. He was just
- 39:09running and they happened to be like in his arms when he did it.
- 39:15I loved Jimbe telling him like he was burned very badly, and Buggy's just
- 39:20saying, I don't care. At this point, a Kaye says to himself,
- 39:29how many people do I have to go through to finish this brat,
- 39:34and he gets his answer as Boa Hancock rolls up. Uh, and you
- 39:42just get all of these like is it Boa right here? Because there's I
- 39:45see all of these these flower pedals, and I was pretty sure that she
- 39:52factors into this. And I can't remember if she's the one who turns up
- 39:54right here, but everybody basically is stepping in front of him to say,
- 40:01oh, we have another you know, here's another person that you have to
- 40:04get through. I'm getting caught up and like describing things in so much detail.
- 40:10Oh no, I don't think it is Boa. She. I know
- 40:15she turns up later, but I think it was uh, the dude who
- 40:19wears the geisha outfit. I think maybe that might be the person who brought
- 40:24the flower petals. I'm not sure, but yeah, everybody has gathered around
- 40:32him in the fog. So once the fog blows away, you see that
- 40:36almost all of the pirates have circled him, and they're saying like, we're
- 40:40gonna uphold Ace's legacy and we're gonna save straw Hat. Because the fact that
- 40:45you want to kill him so badly just means that he scares you. Because
- 40:50he has some real power to him, and I actually sort of liked that
- 40:57approach of like, you know what, it's no longer just about the principle
- 41:01of the thing. It's also kind of feeling like you guys wanting him dead
- 41:06so bad. It's starting to be suspect, like he's a kid, so
- 41:08what's the deal? And he winds up later kind of being like, why
- 41:14do you think that he would have your back? You think that becoming allied
- 41:17with him, that he's going to be able to help you guys out at
- 41:21some point. The kid is the son of one of the most like dangerous,
- 41:25fucked up warlords, and there's no telling what side he's on and what
- 41:32he would actually do, So you know what, And we have a pretty
- 41:39intense sequence that I thought was neat where we're we like go underwater, like
- 41:44the camera goes underwater and you see a red flash of light and then all
- 41:52of this movement as a bunch of people apparently get blown away, so that's
- 41:59very unstable. And then like out in the on my ice, a bunch
- 42:05of pirates are like, wait, what was that? And then they see
- 42:07this other explosion and it's coming from the opposite direction and everybody is starting to
- 42:13be like, uh, okay, I thought we were done with this part.
- 42:17Why are we still in the midst of this? Meanwhile, Buggy is
- 42:22still trying to get Jimmy and Loofy over to a ship that has a you
- 42:30know, a medical bay, and jimbe passes out, and so Buggy doesn't
- 42:35know where to go, and he's just sort of in the air bugging out
- 42:40did you get it? Did you get it? You get the joke that
- 42:43I mean? And as he's flying around just sort of like, well,
- 42:47wait, what the fuck? Where do I go? What do I do?
- 42:51This fight gets worse and worse behind him, and he's starting to have
- 42:53to like veer pretty far out away from land, and then boom, a
- 43:00ship surfaces and it's fucking uh what's his face? Who looks like Daria's best
- 43:07friend's brother, Trent, And when Loofy like this guy is here to help
- 43:15Loofy, but Buggy doesn't believe him right away, and he the law says
- 43:22that's his name. That Buggy might be my enemy one day, but I'll
- 43:25let the fates desire decide that one. Either way, it'd be a waste
- 43:30for me to let him die here so put him on here. He's gonna
- 43:36die without my help. I'm a doctor and I love Buggy just being like
- 43:43what, yeah, sure you are. That's pretty much what the next episode
- 43:46starts with is Buggy just being like why should I believe that? But jumping
- 43:54ahead, he does hand him over. He has to do a whole like
- 44:01what's in it for me? Thing, and then he gets shot at by
- 44:06cannons, and it seems like he starts to come to the conclusion of like,
- 44:09oh maybe just what's in it for me is getting out of the line
- 44:12of fucking fire, Like how about my life is in danger right now?
- 44:16So this is all like fucking a Kayenu is still on the sidelines, just
- 44:23ready to He just takes it so personally that this kid got away. He
- 44:29is really giving, like President Snow a little bit with his just sheer obsession
- 44:32at this point, Sir, you know, I really love when Marco turns
- 44:39into a bird and like flies down the throat of the magma snake that he
- 44:45sends out. I thought that was pretty cool. So all of this is
- 44:52when the Marines like double down and are sending even more guys out. I
- 44:58didn't know they had more, but they're a period from like under trapdoors and
- 45:00stuff and all Garp eventually is like throwing in with the Marines, very disappointed
- 45:07in that, and shit is beginning to hit the wall and finally or hit
- 45:15the fan, I guess is really the same. But finally we have Kobe
- 45:21screaming that's enough. And I actual really liked the speech that he gives,
- 45:31Like the speech where you're urging everybody to stop fighting is a really hard one
- 45:37to write because it can come off as extremely like Sacharine and full of cliches,
- 45:45and I you know, I don't expect like astonishing writing from this show
- 45:52or anything, but they can do pretty well with some speeches now. And
- 45:58then the thing that really just sort of sends him over the edge is there's
- 46:02a marine that has fallen and he sees the uh, like marine has a
- 46:08piece of jewelry like a locket or something on him, and when Kobe picks
- 46:14it up, he sees a photo of this guy's like wife and children,
- 46:17and just you know, these are actual people that we're doing this too.
- 46:23So finally, when Kobe is like, you know, guys, these are
- 46:30actual human beings that we're doing this too. Uh, there's no point in
- 46:36fighting, Like it's over, we won, we can end this. A
- 46:42Kaynu unsurprisingly, it's just like you're getting in the way of justice. So
- 46:50if you're gonna stand in my way, all steamroll right over you. And
- 46:55I'll be real, I think that a Kaynu is taking some shit way too
- 47:00personally for him to say that it's about justice anymore. It just isn't,
- 47:05dude. It's like you're pissed that this kid got away. That's what it
- 47:08is, you know. So finally, when Kobe is like, you know
- 47:14what, fine, if you stop fighting, or at least I said what
- 47:19I need to say, so if you kill me, I don't fucking regret
- 47:22it. I did it and I would do it again. And a Kaynu
- 47:28is about to punch Kobe to death like this kid, I know that he's
- 47:36no younger probably the most of the Marines, but he just comes across as
- 47:38so young that the idea akay knew was gonna punch him to death is just
- 47:43dishonor upon you, dishonor upon your cow, Like come on, really,
- 47:46dude, Jesus Christ. But he gets stopped and I is like when I
- 47:52saw the figure standing there with their swortup. I was like, is that
- 47:57looks like Shanks? And then you get like a close up and you see
- 48:01the scars on his face and you're like, oh, yes, indeed it
- 48:04is Shanks. I'll tell you what. It had never even occurred to me
- 48:07to ask where is Shanks? Throughout all of this, I didn't even ask
- 48:14myself the question, and I kind of should have because this is exactly I
- 48:17would think the sort of shit that he would end up showing up for.
- 48:22But yeah, this is just an interesting development here, this wrinkle and him
- 48:30being the one that sort of steps in. He says, the speech that
- 48:37he gives is no matter what winds up happening here, you giving that speech
- 48:46and saying what you said has changed things for like for the better or worse.
- 48:55What you did today mattered. And I really appreciated just the sort of
- 49:02like, even if you were unsuccessful, it wasn't for nothing, you know,
- 49:08because sometimes yeah, she doesn't quite go the way you want, but
- 49:12there's still there, there was still a shift because of what you did.
- 49:19Shanks also finds the hat, so that's why he like he winds up wearing
- 49:23it for a little while again, but it's a like I'm thinking that Ace
- 49:30is gonna come in here and just absolutely kick everybody's ass. And instead,
- 49:36did I say Ace? I think I said Ace. Oh that's so sad
- 49:40Shanks. Instead we get Shanks encouraging them to back off, to tell all
- 49:52the pirates like, guys, look, I know it sucks, but you
- 49:58lost. He told you not to fight after, like, you know,
- 50:01to just do what needed doing, and you kept going, you have got
- 50:09to take your loss and walk away, and they finally do. Meanwhile,
- 50:19Shanks, because he's found this hat, he's making a deal with Buggy and
- 50:22he's like, hey, if you give that back to Loofy for me,
- 50:28I'll give you a treasure map. I really love how easy it is to
- 50:35fool Buggy. He is such a stupid goon. So yeah, at first
- 50:39he tries to act like he's not he hasn't been taken it at all.
- 50:45Oh sure, yeah, you just turn up with like, oh, we're
- 50:50such good pals. I'll just give you a treasure map if you hand a
- 50:53hat over to somebody, and Shanks just says, uh, well, I'm
- 50:58sure I can find somebody else want it, and Buggy instantly says, don't
- 51:04be so hasty, I'm sure that we can work something out. I'll take
- 51:07care of it for old time's sake, and he just takes off and brings
- 51:12the hat back. But of course it turns out that there is no treasure
- 51:16map and he gets very very angry. I love when Shanks says it's been
- 51:22a long time, huh, and Buggy's response is, don't just say that
- 51:28to me. Oh, it's been a long time, huh. Shut up?
- 51:30Like the voice actor doing Buggy. God, he's good. He is
- 51:35so good. Is it the same guy who did Mister two? I feel
- 51:38like it is, but I don't remember, but yeah, he is very
- 51:44very good. So we have then the like sort of flashback to everything that
- 51:49went down with Loofy and him telling Shank's he's not a man because he just
- 51:54like laughed off this guy, and then Shank's losing his arm to protect Loofy
- 52:01and oh my god, guys, and Beppo is in this episode, and
- 52:06I don't remember Bepo being like this, Like I'm sure he was, but
- 52:10it just slipped my mind that he is just sort of the Michael Sarah character
- 52:17in all of the scenes that he's in, Like he's just sort of the
- 52:22guy that's commenting, and it's not like he isn't involved, but he doesn't
- 52:28feel like a real player. He's the guy who's sort of everything's happening too,
- 52:35you know what I mean. And he's always the one that's sort of
- 52:38like, hey, we're run out of time. Guys like he has to
- 52:40be the voice of reason over and over again, and I really do enjoy
- 52:45him, like him being just a bear randomly is a choice and I can't
- 52:52say I have a problem with it. But yeah, So at that point,
- 52:57after getting Loofy on board, they fucking go back underwater and take off,
- 53:02which I didn't expect. I didn't think they were just going to straight
- 53:05up like leave everybody else, but makes a lot of sense. I really
- 53:10appreciated that they got the fuck up out of there. So we remember too.
- 53:17We have the flashback of Shanks saying like, Lufy, I'm giving you
- 53:22my hat, and one day, when you're a great pirate, I want
- 53:24you to give it back to me in good condition. But he says he
- 53:29can't keep the hat. It's too soon. Lufy hasn't gotten to where he
- 53:32needs to be, so that's why he's giving it back. I am just
- 53:38so like you guys. I know, eventually I got sort of used to
- 53:45it, but the dude playing Shanks and that wig, it's just really really
- 53:52bad, and I just I wish we had gotten better because Shanks is a
- 53:59case really hot and it just makes me kind of think like what could have
- 54:05been. You know, the actor is like attractive, but they just didn't
- 54:08do very much with him. You know. It felt like there was a
- 54:12lot of potential there and they just sort of didn't. I don't know.
- 54:16So anyway, we then have this like the the the whole like situation here
- 54:32with Shanks and him managing to get everybody to back off. I was like
- 54:40really pleased that even though there is a threat like oh, we're just gonna
- 54:46dump their bodies, We're not gonna let you bury them, that he manages
- 54:52to sort of talk them down because it was I thought that was gonna be
- 54:58sort of the thing that wound up just causing it all to fall apart.
- 55:01Uh oh yeah, So this is when fucking when what's her face shows up?
- 55:08Oh my god, Hancock, I can't. She just is so not
- 55:13Handcock. The fact that that is her name is insane to me. But
- 55:15yeah, this is when she's like yelling at the guys and they're like,
- 55:19oh my god, it's so hot. When she's yelling at us, I
- 55:22knew that she played in with things somewhere. And there's even more of these
- 55:28fucking kumabots, y'all, so many. I don't know where they get them
- 55:32all. There's two fucking many. But when he's speaking to teach, she
- 55:39says that your own thirst for vengeance is your undoing if anyone here still hungers
- 55:51for battle, And then we have a very anime sequence of the camera spinning
- 55:55around him. He says, then come, we shall be more than happy
- 56:01to face you, and he is then surrounded by his cronies, who are
- 56:08somewhat intimidating, but, like the Marines, look a lot more afraid than
- 56:14I felt was warranted for the particular group. It seemed like more of a
- 56:21threat simply that he was fresh on the scene with a bunch of people who
- 56:25hadn't been fighting for hours. So probably that's like his biggest advantage. But
- 56:31I wish that if they were characters that, like the Marines, recognized and
- 56:36fell intimidated by, that, that was conveyed a little bit better, because
- 56:38that did not come across and this is when he says to He says,
- 56:49teach, and then he's like, sorry, Blackbeard, and there's like a
- 56:52real sort of I guess. Blackbeard meanwhile says, you're as pretty as a
- 56:58picture. Those scars are a nice touch, and I was like, you
- 57:02know what, He's not wrong. The whole look works very well, you
- 57:07know, pretty solid, I'm just saying. And then we see the like
- 57:12one v one lineup of Teaches people versus Shanks's people, and it was sort
- 57:21of a weird thing because like they don't actually really go up against each other's
- 57:30I think it's just meant to be like who each of his guys is sort
- 57:32of aiming for at the moment, and just a sort of preview and pointing
- 57:38out that we do have a one to one fight here. But yeah,
- 57:44like I said earlier, black Beard just winds up being like, you know
- 57:47what, you guys aren't the ones I'm here to fight, even and I
- 57:52do need to work on like getting my power together, so I'm gonna take
- 57:54off Sengoku shrinks back down to his race size, still shirtless, still absolutely
- 58:04shredded to the gods, and still a weird useless Buddha man I do not
- 58:10understand you, sir. I don't and I won't and so yeah, this
- 58:16is the argument about what to do with the bodies, and he's like,
- 58:22I want to bury them, and some Goku's basically like why the fuck should
- 58:29I care what you want, and they eventually do come to an agreement.
- 58:37Fucking Do Flamingo. There was in the discord, you guys, somebody shared
- 58:42a picture of Ryan Reynolds as Ken edited to look like Do Flamingo, and
- 58:47it was fucking uncanny. Like, honestly, if Do Flamingo shows up on
- 58:52the live action and it's not Ryan Reynolds, I know it won't be because
- 58:57they cannot afford Ryan Reynolds, but if they could, Wow, I bet
- 59:04he would leap at it. This feels like a character he would have so
- 59:07much fun playing. I really think he would. He's good at comedy,
- 59:12and I think he could have sort of a mean edge to him. I've
- 59:15never really seen him be a mean character before, but I feel like he
- 59:19could make it work, you know. So again we have the really long,
- 59:24drawn out like scan of the camera from one face to another, and
- 59:30one there's some like random guy that is in the audience back on Sabaodi and
- 59:37saying, I think maybe it's over now. And that's part of the reason
- 59:46why Shanks is like, we're taking the bodies is because he knows that people
- 59:52are watching and that otherwise the Marines might make a spectacle of them as the
- 59:58word that he uses, to which they're like, yeah, well you pointed
- 1:00:01out that we won the battle and we earned that shit. But then Sengoku
- 1:00:07speaks over them all the guys who are like saying, you know, and
- 1:00:12I was surprised as much as he is, like why should I give a
- 1:00:15shit what you want. It's just sort of like, we really do need
- 1:00:21to call this shit. We need to end it. And if this is
- 1:00:23what's gonna do it, then fine. And did I say ace again?
- 1:00:35I feel like I keep saying Ace instead of Shanks. I just feel like
- 1:00:37I keep I can't tell. So he says to the other Marines, now
- 1:00:45go treat the injured before it's too late. The war is over, and
- 1:00:52of course then he has to say the Navy has won, even though it
- 1:00:55doesn't really look like it when the camera pulls back, maybe you did,
- 1:01:00but so at what cost? So that's pretty much the way that things wrap
- 1:01:07is like everybody carrying the wounded and folks rushing around with like medical kits and
- 1:01:16stuff. We get one more look at the tattoo on I think that's supposed
