- 0:00Speaker 1: Jim Rose right there. He's back, and here is Sean Callahan.
- 0:02Speaker 2: All right, Sean, how you doing? Nice to have you.
- 0:04Speaker 2: So it sounds like we're playing the Seahawks this week.
- 0:10Speaker 1: We've hyped up North Dakota already, but the ranked number
- 0:13Speaker 1: six in the FCS poll, Jerry Kaminsky, the quarterback, won
- 0:18Speaker 1: the quarterback challenge at the Manning Passing Academy this summer
- 0:20Speaker 1: with all the top college quarterbacks. He's a good player,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and Trey stayed in their left tackle for Miller West
- 0:26Speaker 1: as a draft pick level tackle, so They'll come in
- 0:30Speaker 1: with a very capable offense that has the ability to
- 0:34Speaker 1: put up a lot of points. They've had two games
- 0:35Speaker 1: this year where they've put up 42 points in the
- 0:37Speaker 1: first half with their starters. So this is going to
- 0:40Speaker 1: be a good test for Rob Orch and his crew.
- 0:43Speaker 1: The head coach, Eric Schmidt, on the other sideline, actually
- 0:46Speaker 1: used to work with Orch. They were at San Diego
- 0:48Speaker 1: State together before he left to become the head coach
- 0:51Speaker 1: at North Dakota.
- 0:52Speaker 2: So as you and I discussed many years ago, Sean,
- 0:56Speaker 2: the best way to gauge an opponent, is to identify
- 1:00Speaker 2: how many of their guys could crack the top two,
- 1:03Speaker 2: the two-deep roster for Nebraska. And I count a couple.
- 1:06Speaker 2: How many do you?
- 1:07Speaker 1: You know, I hate to say, I think on the
- 1:11Speaker 1: offensive line, they've got a guy or two that could,
- 1:14Speaker 1: for sure. And their quarterback, you know, is one of
- 1:18Speaker 1: the best in FCS right now. I mean, I'm more
- 1:21Speaker 1: amazed they kept some of these guys on the team
- 1:23Speaker 1: from a year ago because they had a good year.
- 1:25Speaker 1: They did lose a few players, though. I think they
- 1:28Speaker 1: had a receiver running back leave from last year. One
- 1:32Speaker 1: went to Wake Forest, I believe. So, look, yeah, of
- 1:37Speaker 1: the three teams they're playing, this could be the best
- 1:39Speaker 1: of the three. I mean, they're definitely pretty close to Ohio,
- 1:43Speaker 1: maybe a step below or above. I mean, it's debatable
- 1:47Speaker 1: at this point, but... This will be a nice test
- 1:50Speaker 1: before you go to Michigan State. And we'll see Michigan State,
- 1:53Speaker 1: by the way, that's a 4 p.m.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Game.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Kind of an odd kickoff time in East Lansing here
- 1:58Speaker 1: for the first Big Ten game of the year.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I counted, too. The other guy, I agree with
- 2:02Speaker 2: you on the offensive lineman. I think he was a
- 2:04Speaker 2: real miss for Nebraska football.
- 2:06Speaker 1: He should be here.
- 2:07Speaker 2: And then Lance Rucker, their great rush end, who is
- 2:10Speaker 2: an NFL prospect, but he's been injured. Is he going
- 2:13Speaker 2: to play?
- 2:14Speaker 1: No, he hurt his foot, and I think he's out for...
- 2:18Speaker 1: I believe the report was like 10 weeks at least.
- 2:22Speaker 1: He's out for a significant period of time, so he
- 2:24Speaker 1: will not be a part of this game as far
- 2:26Speaker 1: as we know.
- 2:28Speaker 2: That adds a significant amount of weight to their chances
- 2:33Speaker 2: of pulling off an upset. Now let's visit about the
- 2:35Speaker 2: special teams play. Mike Eckler is looking better and better
- 2:39Speaker 2: every week.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Yeah, Nebraska again with three penalties on punt returns last week.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Three in a row. where they were trying to set
- 2:50Speaker 1: up a return and guys held. And Matt Rule took
- 2:52Speaker 1: full blame for that, saying he's coaching, he wants them
- 2:54Speaker 1: to be aggressive there. They're calling it different officiating-wise than
- 2:59Speaker 1: a year ago, was what he said after the game
- 3:03Speaker 1: was over. But they blocked a punt, which is great,
- 3:05Speaker 1: but then they scooped it up and then fumbled that.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And luckily it went out of bounds. That could have been.
- 3:11Speaker 2: a.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Turnover after they blocked a punt in that situation. You
- 3:15Speaker 1: don't want to see something like that happen. I mean,
- 3:17Speaker 1: there's just been little things. They missed the 55-yard field goal.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You can't really be too critical of that. But it's
- 3:21Speaker 1: mainly the return penalties there. Because in bigger games, when
- 3:26Speaker 1: you're playing like Iowa, I mean, that's going to be
- 3:28Speaker 1: a huge deal if you get those kind of penalties. Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Now, the other question is, and many Husker softball and
- 3:34Speaker 2: baseball fans were actually applauding this when Troy Dannen was
- 3:39Speaker 2: clocked out of bounds by Nisaia Hunter. what is the
- 3:43Speaker 2: condition of the Nebraska Athletic Director?
- 3:46Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a receipt joke in there somewhere. According to
- 3:52Speaker 1: Matt Rule, he's fine. And, you know, Dannen did get
- 3:55Speaker 1: up and say he was fine after there. But, yeah,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of sideline hits. I mean, that
- 3:59Speaker 1: was about as square up as you're going to see.
- 4:01Speaker 1: He took the shoulder from Isaiah Hunter right in the
- 4:04Speaker 1: chest and flew back after Isaiah Hunter hurtled that guy.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Lauren Michelson from Channel 7 has a Pretty good tweet
- 4:12Speaker 1: of it or video of it on our Twitter timeline
- 4:15Speaker 1: where you can see the hit of you if you
- 4:17Speaker 1: want to see what we're talking about here.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and Isaiah Hunter was going out of bounds. And
- 4:22Speaker 2: Matt Rule said, well, yeah, Dannon took one for the team.
- 4:24Speaker 2: He kept Isaiah from going into the fence. Well, Isaiah
- 4:27Speaker 2: had pads on, so let him go into the fence.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Dannon had a pass on. That was it. But apparently
- 4:32Speaker 2: he's fine, and that's nice to know. All right, Sean, thanks.
- 4:35Speaker 2: We'll talk to you again. That's KFAB Husker Info Strongman
- 4:37Speaker 2: Sean Callahan.
