- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, in honor of Pinstripe Pride weekend, I wanna
- 0:04Speaker 1: do a then and now for you because back then,
- 0:07Speaker 1: in two thousand and nine, I had the very fortunate
- 0:10Speaker 1: interviewing Bernie Williams at the Queen's College Colon Center after
- 0:16Speaker 1: a Tolerance concert. Here's how that conversation went back in
- 0:19Speaker 1: two thousand and nine.
- 0:21Speaker 2: All right, well, I'm here with Bernie Williams, who is
- 0:23Speaker 2: here at the Tolerance concert tonight. So he worked with
- 0:27Speaker 2: Jimmy Owen tonight. What was it like performing with him?
- 0:30Speaker 3: I felt sober, matched, was like so intimidated. You know,
- 0:35Speaker 3: that's such a great group of players, and I was
- 0:39Speaker 3: just trying to keep up. It was a good experience though,
- 0:42Speaker 3: because I'm never you know, I've never been exposed to
- 0:45Speaker 3: playing US so I have such a language of music,
- 0:49Speaker 3: you know, as far as in a hardcore jazz straight ahead,
- 0:52Speaker 3: you know, I never played that. So it was it
- 0:55Speaker 3: was really a really great experience for me to do this.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Now, there was one message that you hope people can
- 1:01Speaker 2: get out of this concert, what would it be?
- 1:03Speaker 3: Well, I think the whole message, the whole message about tolerance,
- 1:06Speaker 3: and you know, for my particular case, you know, I
- 1:10Speaker 3: would talk about the example that I'm given that it is.
- 1:14Speaker 3: You know, you don't have to choose between sports and music,
- 1:16Speaker 3: and they all can coexist amicably, amicable. You know, if
- 1:23Speaker 3: you have the talent to do both, you know why not.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And finally, today you played take me out to the
- 1:27Speaker 2: ball game, You're endition. What was like playing it in
- 1:30Speaker 2: center field an opening day of the new Yankee Stadium.
- 1:33Speaker 3: It was a very surreal experience for me. I would
- 1:37Speaker 3: have hoped that I was in uniform with a glove on,
- 1:40Speaker 3: you know, it's playing center field. But as time tells,
- 1:44Speaker 3: you know, you you can only borrow your ability for
- 1:47Speaker 3: a little time. So I think the next best thing
- 1:51Speaker 3: was to go out there and play my tribute to
- 1:54Speaker 3: the game to the fans that were there. I think
- 1:56Speaker 3: it was very fitting, so I feel really good about it.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Thank you there.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I ticket was very fitting, so I feel really good
- 2:03Speaker 3: about it.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Thank you so much. And congratulations on tonight, oh thank you.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Well.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Fast forward now fifteen plus years later, and it's almost
- 2:13Speaker 1: like a cycle, right, you get into these people every
- 2:15Speaker 1: fifteen years, I guess because at the twenty twenty five
- 2:19Speaker 1: Pinstripe Pride event put on by Hall of Fame signings,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and so I got a chance to catch up with
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yes all Star Gold Glover and World Series Champion and
- 2:31Speaker 1: really a friend, Bernie Williams, take a listen to that.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Let's me to be a pinchrp Pride, Pinstripe Pride, man,
- 2:38Speaker 4: this is this is all about Pinstrip.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Pride, all the fans, all the people showing their love
- 2:43Speaker 3: and just to have the experience to play with the
- 2:45Speaker 3: best team.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And then you had a guitar to sign today. How
- 2:48Speaker 1: cool was that? It was awesome?
- 2:49Speaker 3: Man, It just kind of brought me way back to
- 2:52Speaker 3: the years that I was playing guitar in the clubhouse
- 2:54Speaker 3: meanings springsting and him found me my guitar and saying
- 2:57Speaker 3: if you ever get tired of baseball and all that.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So, yeah, that was a great experience, Bernie, Thanks as always,
- 3:03Speaker 1: Thank you grateful that Anna and Jake allowed Gaby and
- 3:07Speaker 1: I to be part of that media scrum if you
- 3:10Speaker 1: will at Pinsroy Pride, I mean, we got to see
- 3:12Speaker 1: a whole bunch of that Yankee family, Yankee legends, Yankee
- 3:16Speaker 1: Hall of famers, including Zezi Sabathia and uh A shout
- 3:20Speaker 1: out once again to Jake and Anna, and you know they,
- 3:25Speaker 1: along with Justin Time Baseball and Frank Luna and Rob
- 3:29Speaker 1: Gomez at Yankee Stadium and Matt Eisen truly embody that
- 3:34Speaker 1: inclusionary vision and that inclusivity that mister Seinberner afforded my
- 3:40Speaker 1: family and I when he took my dad and I
- 3:43Speaker 1: am to the suite in September of two thousand and
- 3:47Speaker 1: twenty five years ago.
- 3:48Speaker 4: What happened today, What happened today, an American.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Dream with Hall of Fame signings felt like an encapsulation
- 3:56Speaker 1: of what mister Seinberner began twenty five years ago. My
- 4:00Speaker 1: family and I am ever so grateful, and I know
- 4:02Speaker 1: he and Pops are watching along with us and are
- 4:05Speaker 1: always along with us in the journey. Someone else who
- 4:10Speaker 1: embodies this inclusivity and kindness is not other than lou Terminello.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And right now I want to wrap up this week
- 4:19Speaker 1: with Terminello's take, which has a lot of insight into
- 4:24Speaker 1: why JT. Miller was traded to the Rangers from Vancouver.
- 4:29Speaker 1: The Knicks, who up into this recording had won five straight.
- 4:33Speaker 1: What their hot streak.
- 4:35Speaker 5: Means and prayers and thoughts to the families of the
- 4:42Speaker 5: fourteen figure skating athletes who perished the horrible plane crash
- 4:52Speaker 5: over the potamac. Lou Terminello and I cover it all
- 4:55Speaker 5: on this week's Terminello's Taake. All right, welcome back to
- 5:00Speaker 5: One Leg Up with Alex Garrett, and on my line
- 5:02Speaker 5: once again is lou Termineo Lewis Terminiello. More formally, welcome
- 5:07Speaker 5: back to your take Terminilo's.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Take this week, Alex good foot out? Are you footballed
- 5:14Speaker 1: out yet? Because I don't even want to talk in
- 5:15Speaker 1: depth about this last two games last weekend because a
- 5:21Speaker 1: it seemed like this not a script but the same
- 5:23Speaker 1: old story. Right. The Chiefs go in take out the Bills.
- 5:27Speaker 1: The Eagles who are making their first Super Bowl since
- 5:31Speaker 1: they actually played the Chiefs a few years ago. So
- 5:35Speaker 1: it'll be a rematch. But you know, I'm fired with
- 5:38Speaker 1: other things. I know you wanted to cover really quick
- 5:40Speaker 1: our title championship weekend games. Tell us what your thoughts
- 5:43Speaker 1: were real fast.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Well, as I'm not surprised that we have a Kansas
- 5:48Speaker 4: City Philadelphia rematch from a couple of years ago. As
- 5:51Speaker 4: I said, I was rooting for Buffalo with my heart,
- 5:56Speaker 4: but my head said Kansas City. As we talked about
- 5:58Speaker 4: last week, but real quick. The Commander's fantastic year going
- 6:02Speaker 4: from four to thirteen to fourteen and six, and they
- 6:07Speaker 4: have the most important player going forward in their quarterback
- 6:11Speaker 4: Jayden Daniels. The Eagles great team, great offensive line, great
- 6:16Speaker 4: running back. Jalen Hurts play his best game of the
- 6:20Speaker 4: year in my opinion on Sunday, and he looked one
- 6:22Speaker 4: hundred percent healthy. And now he has two weeks to
- 6:25Speaker 4: get ready for the Chiefs. But he really threw the
- 6:30Speaker 4: ball well on Sunday, Buffalo at Kansas City Alex. The
- 6:35Speaker 4: Chiefs do what championship teams do over and over, from
- 6:39Speaker 4: their outstanding coaching staff to their players. Andy Reid a
- 6:44Speaker 4: great coach, but the thing we forget about, he's also
- 6:47Speaker 4: the offensive play caller. He's a Hall of Fame offensive
- 6:50Speaker 4: play caller. And even at that last play on third
- 6:55Speaker 4: and nine, with a minute thirty five seconds to go
- 6:57Speaker 4: to Samaji p Ryan, he had the scheme, had the
- 7:03Speaker 4: Bill defense confuser out of position. He was wide open
- 7:06Speaker 4: through that Mahomes through that little swing pass clinched the game.
- 7:11Speaker 4: I do think that McDermott made a couple of mistakes
- 7:13Speaker 4: going for those two point conversions early, and he didn't
- 7:17Speaker 4: get either one of them. The first one he shouldn't
- 7:20Speaker 4: have gone to, but because he missed the first, he
- 7:22Speaker 4: had to go for the second. When they went I
- 7:24Speaker 4: had twenty two to twenty one. But if he didn't
- 7:27Speaker 4: go for those two point conversions, just keep a single point,
- 7:30Speaker 4: the Chiefs would have gone for a two point conversion
- 7:32Speaker 4: later in the game, which they converted, and the game
- 7:35Speaker 4: would be thirty one to thirty one. Before the controversial
- 7:39Speaker 4: spot situation on third and one, and with Kinkay catching
- 7:44Speaker 4: that swing pass and I think he got a bad spot,
- 7:47Speaker 4: and then Alan with the tush push. They said that
- 7:51Speaker 4: he was short. I thought he had it, but he didn't.
- 7:54Speaker 4: And the final result thirty two to twenty nine Kansas
- 7:59Speaker 4: City and they're going for their third Street. I mean
- 8:01Speaker 4: that wraps it up, absolutely does.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And you know there were two controversial plays I've highlighted
- 8:09Speaker 1: a few days ago. Then everybody's up in arm is
- 8:13Speaker 1: about and again, as I predicted, lou the Bills Mafia
- 8:17Speaker 1: and actually Raven Fans contributed to an organization. Dalton Kincaid's
- 8:23Speaker 1: part of it's like a tradition. When these guys don't
- 8:27Speaker 1: make that player, don't make that kick, the fans have
- 8:30Speaker 1: their backs, and I was really it was really nice
- 8:33Speaker 1: to say that Kinkaid got a lot of donations to
- 8:35Speaker 1: his charity a day after he dropped the ball. But
- 8:38Speaker 1: that's a very tough play to make.
- 8:39Speaker 4: I mean, you can't that was a.
- 8:40Speaker 6: Really tough that was That wasn't like Mark Andrews the
- 8:42Speaker 6: week before, Alan made a great throw against the against
- 8:48Speaker 6: the Blitz on fourth down, and Kincaid was you know,
- 8:53Speaker 6: he stretched his body out, should he nine times out
- 8:55Speaker 6: of ten?
- 8:56Speaker 4: Eight times out of ten? Would he have caught that bull? Absolutely,
- 8:59Speaker 4: but hey, you're not going to kill He's a terrific
- 9:02Speaker 4: tight end. You can't kill the guy.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Absolutely not. And he was a difference maker the whole
- 9:08Speaker 1: year for the Bills as well, if I'm not mistaken.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So absolutely, there's that.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Now.
- 9:13Speaker 1: What I'm fired up today about is in that little
- 9:17Speaker 1: arena known as Carna Seca Arena is home to not
- 9:22Speaker 1: you know, just any ranked team in the country, but fourteenth,
- 9:26Speaker 1: fifteenth ranked in the country. Lou we talk about this
- 9:30Speaker 1: last year and I was sort of like, oh my god,
- 9:32Speaker 1: Patino was on a slow start and he said, you
- 9:34Speaker 1: just watch, well, we've been watching and that slow starts dissipated.
- 9:38Speaker 1: There are fourteenth ranked, probably even more after this week.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Boy are they a contender or not? Or what heading
- 9:45Speaker 1: into March Madness coverage here.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Well, that a doubt. And it's like we said last year.
- 9:51Speaker 4: We said that the bubble team last year, as Patino
- 9:54Speaker 4: was getting his feet on the ground and making the
- 9:59Speaker 4: transition for the Saint John's basketball program, that they would
- 10:03Speaker 4: be a bubble team, and they were and they could
- 10:04Speaker 4: have gotten in. They just missed. This year, we said
- 10:08Speaker 4: that we think they can get to at least the
- 10:10Speaker 4: second weekend of the NCAAA tournament, and I think there
- 10:13Speaker 4: is no doubt about it. That's what's gonna happen. I
- 10:16Speaker 4: would say that probably in a four, five, six bracket,
- 10:20Speaker 4: you know, sixth seed now, So it depends what bracket
- 10:23Speaker 4: they're in, as far as they could how far they go.
- 10:27Speaker 4: This is a good team. They played good defense. They
- 10:30Speaker 4: were a little spotty sometimes offensively at times, but you know,
- 10:34Speaker 4: they had nine and one and Biggis played for the
- 10:36Speaker 4: first time since eighty four eighty five, which was the
- 10:40Speaker 4: last time Saint John's made it to the Final four.
- 10:43Speaker 4: That year, there was three biggest teams that made it
- 10:45Speaker 4: to the Final four. So you know, they're on a streak.
- 10:49Speaker 4: They've won seven in a row. They played Providence at
- 10:52Speaker 4: Madison Square Garden on Saturday. They're playing very well. I mean,
- 11:01Speaker 4: you can't you can't criticize them. They came back from
- 11:06Speaker 4: sixteen points against Xavier. They were able to they able
- 11:09Speaker 4: to win that game. They got off to that big
- 11:11Speaker 4: lead against Georgetown the other night and they didn't let
- 11:13Speaker 4: Georgetown breed the rest of the way. Their defense is good.
- 11:17Speaker 4: He's not gonna let them play bad defense. And that's
- 11:21Speaker 4: because he's a you know, he's a great offensive coach,
- 11:24Speaker 4: but he's also a great defensive coach. You know, their
- 11:27Speaker 4: three point shooting, like many, is sporadic, but this this
- 11:32Speaker 4: is a this is a team that right now is
- 11:37Speaker 4: ahead of Connecticut and who would have thought that? So
- 11:41Speaker 4: a great job. Who looks like the argist in February
- 11:44Speaker 4: and Bad East Tournament.
- 11:46Speaker 1: You know who was scouting out the Georgetown Saint John's game.
- 11:49Speaker 1: One of your former coaches, Lawrence Frank, was there on
- 11:53Speaker 1: the of the Clippers. So that game was highly touted
- 11:56Speaker 1: on both sides of the ball. And I guess uh,
- 11:59Speaker 1: you know, they they were looking at Star freshman Thomas
- 12:02Speaker 1: Serber and yeah, you're come, Saint John's mowing down everybody.
- 12:05Speaker 1: So that was an interesting term of events. I guess
- 12:07Speaker 1: for what they were expecting to see, they saw something different.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Well, you never know what's gonna happen when you go
- 12:13Speaker 4: out to scat the player. You could scather the player
- 12:15Speaker 4: and he's having a game where he's just the lighting
- 12:18Speaker 4: it up. And then you can have a play that
- 12:20Speaker 4: you think is going to you know, you're looking for
- 12:24Speaker 4: his skills and he has a horrible game. So but
- 12:26Speaker 4: they look at these guys so many times.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And kudos is Zach Brazilier for reporting this, by the
- 12:33Speaker 1: way on UH on the New York Post. You got
- 12:36Speaker 1: to shout him out for that kind of reporting that
- 12:39Speaker 1: you don't get anywhere else. I feel like, well, there
- 12:40Speaker 1: you go.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Well he's he's right now the number one college basketball
- 12:45Speaker 4: guy covering New York New York Sports. He's excellent, he
- 12:50Speaker 4: really is. And he's all over Saint John's. Now that's
- 12:54Speaker 4: now that Saint John's has re emerged after all these years.
- 12:58Speaker 4: He has his pulse on on the UH on the
- 13:01Speaker 4: Saint John's Reret storm, and it's it's gonna be Uh.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Now once you know, once the Super Bowl's over, you
- 13:07Speaker 4: go through that period of getting ready for the NCAAA tournament.
- 13:11Speaker 4: Next week from next week is the NBA trade deadline
- 13:15Speaker 4: February sixth, so they'll be one or two trades that
- 13:18Speaker 4: probably happen there, and then, uh, the NHL takes that
- 13:22Speaker 4: two week break for the Four Nations tournament and then
- 13:27Speaker 4: their trade deadline on March seventh, and I think you're
- 13:30Speaker 4: gonna see some movement in the NHL. I think the
- 13:36Speaker 4: Rangers might be involved. I almost for sure, even though
- 13:40Speaker 4: he's having another terrific year, but he's in the last
- 13:43Speaker 4: year of his deal, and the Islanders I do not
- 13:45Speaker 4: believe you're going to extend him as he's, you know,
- 13:48Speaker 4: now in his early thirties. I think brock Nelson will
- 13:52Speaker 4: be a trade, a trade deadline deal, because the big
- 13:56Speaker 4: rumor is that at the end of this year he's
- 13:58Speaker 4: gonna go to Minnesota, where you know, which is where
- 14:01Speaker 4: he lives.
- 14:02Speaker 1: And before that, the Islanders have not a five game
- 14:05Speaker 1: win streak, which is pretty good. I mean, they were
- 14:08Speaker 1: a little lagging there. But is that five game winster
- 14:11Speaker 1: you're gonna lead to anything? I mean, where do you
- 14:13Speaker 1: see what this team.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Well, there are only two points out of a playoff
- 14:16Speaker 4: spot now, so it doesn't look like mister Lamorello is
- 14:22Speaker 4: going to break up the team. But I don't think
- 14:25Speaker 4: he's going to let a guy like brock Nelson leave
- 14:31Speaker 4: at the end of the year and not get anything
- 14:32Speaker 4: for him. I mean, if he if he signed him
- 14:34Speaker 4: to a two year extension before the trade deadline, I
- 14:38Speaker 4: could see that. But he's not going to do what
- 14:43Speaker 4: the Islanders did. And this is not unloose bold was
- 14:46Speaker 4: he had just gotten there. He's not going to do
- 14:51Speaker 4: what the Islanders do with Tavares. And they could have
- 14:53Speaker 4: trade Tavaris at the deadline that year. They were not
- 14:56Speaker 4: going to the playoffs that year, and Tavaris held them
- 15:01Speaker 4: up and he ended up leaving and the Islander's got nothing.
- 15:04Speaker 4: So I don't think that's gonna and and don't get
- 15:06Speaker 4: me wrong, brock Nelson is not as good as John Tavares, so,
- 15:10Speaker 4: but he's still not gonna do that. The other guy
- 15:12Speaker 4: the Islanders might get might move at the trade deadline,
- 15:15Speaker 4: and this doesn't mean that they're giving up on the season.
- 15:18Speaker 4: They Another pending free agent is Kyle Paul Mary and
- 15:23Speaker 4: he's been a bit islander since they got him. But again,
- 15:27Speaker 4: you just don't want these guys to leave at the
- 15:29Speaker 4: end of the year. And he got nothing for them,
- 15:30Speaker 4: So that's something to look at. I mean, where there's
- 15:34Speaker 4: already been a big trade between Colorado and UH and Carolina,
- 15:40Speaker 4: you know, with Miko branton In going to to Carolina
- 15:46Speaker 4: and a shocking deal. I mean Branton and it's gonna
- 15:49Speaker 4: as a free agent coming up. He's an unrestricted free agent.
- 15:54Speaker 4: He was six in the NHL and scoring, but Colorado
- 15:57Speaker 4: still moved him and they got they got UH tailor
- 16:00Speaker 4: Hole back from Chicago. It was a three way deal.
- 16:04Speaker 4: They got Martin Nichetz back and he's excellent and UH again,
- 16:11Speaker 4: I could see Carolina making another trade because I don't know,
- 16:14Speaker 4: if you know about the UH, the the fractured locker
- 16:18Speaker 4: room in Vancouver, between J. T. Miller and Elias Petterston.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I mean, they're shopping Miller.
- 16:25Speaker 4: They're shopping.
- 16:26Speaker 1: They're shopping back to the Rangers. We don't know where.
- 16:29Speaker 4: I mean, a couple of weeks ago, would looked like
- 16:31Speaker 4: he was going back to the Rangers. And I bet
- 16:33Speaker 4: you Crider was in that deal. But it must have
- 16:36Speaker 4: fallen through. So that's something to look at. It's killed
- 16:41Speaker 4: the locker room. Now, Vancouver's in the last spot right now.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Uh in the UH, in the and in the Western Conference.
- 16:49Speaker 4: You know they're it cooks by a legend. I mean,
- 16:52Speaker 4: come on, Rick Tockett, even on the video games. I
- 16:55Speaker 4: used to play as a Flyers and he was always
- 16:57Speaker 4: in that game.
- 16:58Speaker 1: You know, Rick talking. I remember him for years. So
- 17:02Speaker 1: to see him have a fractured locker room's attle surprising
- 17:05Speaker 1: because he's a legend in the sport. I mean, it's
- 17:07Speaker 1: a little surprising, isn't it.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Well again, when he got there and when he went
- 17:11Speaker 4: from the TNT broadcast panel and on their pre and
- 17:15Speaker 4: postgame show, Vancouver turned their season around. He did a
- 17:20Speaker 4: great job. And I expected to Vancouver to not be
- 17:24Speaker 4: in the eighth spot right now. And there's still a
- 17:27Speaker 4: lot of season ago. But this J T. Miller Elias
- 17:32Speaker 4: Peedson personal issues between them, I don't know what it is,
- 17:37Speaker 4: has gone on for way too long and they got
- 17:39Speaker 4: to rectify it. It looks like a buffalo is the
- 17:46Speaker 4: leading landing spot if they trade Peterson and again with J. T. Miller,
- 17:52Speaker 4: he's thirty two years old. Peasants only twenty six, so
- 17:56Speaker 4: he would have to go to a team, and he
- 17:57Speaker 4: has two years left on his deal.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Well, we're missing out on the biggest transaction which affected
- 18:02Speaker 1: the New York area and that Tony d'angelo's back. I mean,
- 18:07Speaker 1: is it possible D'Angelo has lit up the Islanders? I
- 18:09Speaker 1: mean no, is there no coincidence that after he got
- 18:12Speaker 1: on that team they're winning five in row. Maybe he's
- 18:14Speaker 1: a spark there, you know.
- 18:15Speaker 4: You know, well, obviously the Islanders have suffered injuries to
- 18:19Speaker 4: their two best too of their best defenseman and in
- 18:22Speaker 4: uh no adopts and then Ryan pull like and we
- 18:25Speaker 4: don't know how long how long they're going to be out,
- 18:28Speaker 4: so they had to uh fortify the defense. Now the
- 18:31Speaker 4: Island's power play, we know is not good. Tony D'Angelo
- 18:36Speaker 4: was immediately put on the power play. Yes, we know
- 18:39Speaker 4: he has his issues. We know, uh uh he has
- 18:43Speaker 4: a tough time controlling his emotions on the ice, and
- 18:48Speaker 4: but when you're desperate, but you know, he's a talented guy.
- 18:51Speaker 4: And everybody says, Okay, he might be a little hard
- 18:56Speaker 4: to handle, but you can't you can't each talent, and
- 19:01Speaker 4: he's a talented guy. He's a good skater, he's got
- 19:03Speaker 4: a good shot from the point on the power play,
- 19:06Speaker 4: he's a good punk handler, all things that the Islanders need.
- 19:09Speaker 4: So he's only signed for the rest of the year,
- 19:12Speaker 4: so it's not a long term commitment. If he goes
- 19:15Speaker 4: off and does something dope be on the ice, they
- 19:19Speaker 4: can cut him. Yeah, so it's really not much of
- 19:23Speaker 4: a risk at the stage of the season, and the
- 19:25Speaker 4: Islands were desperate.
- 19:26Speaker 1: By the way. Gabby and I will be at the
- 19:28Speaker 1: UBS Arena for the February twenty fifth Rangers Islanders. If
- 19:31Speaker 1: you want to come by and take a trip to
- 19:33Speaker 1: Long Island, we'll be there. Louis, I would love to
- 19:35Speaker 1: see you there.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I haven't gone. I haven't gone out yet this
- 19:38Speaker 4: year to Ubs, which is on me. But yeah, I
- 19:44Speaker 4: think that's only the second that's will be only the
- 19:46Speaker 4: second time that they've played the Islanders in the Ranges.
- 19:48Speaker 4: They played really early at the Garden and so but
- 19:53Speaker 4: those games are always those games are always fun.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And they might be competitive, even more competitive because they're
- 19:58Speaker 1: both buying for that last playoffs. But I'm looking at
- 20:01Speaker 1: the standings here and I mean, you know, Rangers fifty
- 20:04Speaker 1: two as was fifty one, and yet I'm just not
- 20:08Speaker 1: used to seeing the Rangers in twelve in the conference.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I'm just seeing them in sixth seventh, you know, a
- 20:14Speaker 1: little higher than that.
- 20:15Speaker 4: And I just spoke there's are four points out of
- 20:17Speaker 4: the last playoff spot. I thought there were two, but
- 20:20Speaker 4: they're four points out of the last playoff spot. They
- 20:23Speaker 4: have a game in hand on a couple of teams,
- 20:26Speaker 4: including the Rangers the Canadians. They have three games and
- 20:31Speaker 4: heads on the Flyers.
- 20:33Speaker 1: So but how important is going to be momentum? I mean,
- 20:36Speaker 1: obviously heading to this Four Nations tournament, I see it's
- 20:39Speaker 1: going to be at the Boston at TV Garden, by
- 20:41Speaker 1: the way, they're going to play call games up there.
- 20:43Speaker 1: They'll be at the Belt Center in Montreal for it too.
- 20:46Speaker 1: But to you and in general with hockey, momentum always
- 20:51Speaker 1: seems to be important. So where do you want these
- 20:55Speaker 1: teams to line up if they're going to make a
- 20:56Speaker 1: playoff run after this Nation Should they be in that
- 20:59Speaker 1: nine tense with a good chance to get eight to seven?
- 21:02Speaker 1: You know the type of thing?
- 21:03Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, the thing is you want to finish now.
- 21:06Speaker 4: A week from Saturday is the last day of play
- 21:10Speaker 4: before the the two week break. The last games are
- 21:15Speaker 4: February ninth, and then they come back on February twenty second.
- 21:19Speaker 4: You want any team in the NHL wants to finish
- 21:24Speaker 4: strong before they go on this two week break, because
- 21:27Speaker 4: you don't know when you come back. Are you going
- 21:29Speaker 4: to come back flying out of the shoot is going
- 21:31Speaker 4: to take you a game or two to get back,
- 21:33Speaker 4: And in the case of the Rangers and the Islanders,
- 21:36Speaker 4: you can't afford to have a two or three games
- 21:39Speaker 4: slow start when you come back. That could that could
- 21:42Speaker 4: kill you. But like you, I in shocked that the
- 21:45Speaker 4: Rangers aren't aren't you know, in the first, second or
- 21:49Speaker 4: third spot in the Atlantic, in the Eastern Conference, in
- 21:55Speaker 4: the Metropolitan Division. The shocking the shocking result of this
- 22:01Speaker 4: NHL season so far, and they have done a fantastic job.
- 22:07Speaker 4: The Capitals being thirty four, eleven and five. I mean,
- 22:10Speaker 4: I thought there was a chance they would not make
- 22:13Speaker 4: the playoffs, and they have a seven point lead over
- 22:17Speaker 4: Carolina and a nine point lead over the Devils, who
- 22:22Speaker 4: who I think The Devils have played the most games
- 22:24Speaker 4: in the league. The Devils only have twenty nine games left,
- 22:27Speaker 4: they think so, so we'll see but the Capitals Spencer
- 22:32Speaker 4: Carbary has done a fantastic job as their coach, and
- 22:39Speaker 4: if Ovechkin had missed those sixteen games, he would have
- 22:41Speaker 4: been really close to that record. He's twenty goals away.
- 22:44Speaker 4: He probably would have been ten goals away to the
- 22:49Speaker 4: all time scoring record of eight ninety four by it.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Well, that's the other storyline, because you know, Ovechkin was
- 22:56Speaker 1: really shut down, maybe because of injury last year as well.
- 22:58Speaker 1: But he's come back and twenty twenty five, the whole
- 23:02Speaker 1: calendar year is gonna be about whether he can make
- 23:04Speaker 1: that even in twenty five. I mean, there's a real
- 23:07Speaker 1: possibility could do it next year now and.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Uh, he got off to such a slow start, like
- 23:13Speaker 4: you said last year, and you start to think at
- 23:15Speaker 4: his age, is he's slowing down? And then he had
- 23:18Speaker 4: the great second half of the year. He got off
- 23:20Speaker 4: to a great start and then broke his leg, but
- 23:22Speaker 4: came back after sixteen games and scored right away. It's
- 23:27Speaker 4: gonna be tight for him to break the record, I
- 23:30Speaker 4: think before the end of this regular season, but he'll
- 23:35Speaker 4: do it early in twenty five. Twenty six for sure,
- 23:39Speaker 4: really an unbreakable Many people thought the eight ninety four
- 23:42Speaker 4: was an unbreakable record, and he's gonna go a way
- 23:45Speaker 4: past it. He's gonna go into the into the nine hundreds.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right, lou Now, now let's talk about another
- 23:57Speaker 1: team that is really bringing New York hope. Because every
- 24:03Speaker 1: night now they're in a five game win streak every night.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Though.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It is kind of electric to watch Brunts and kat
- 24:09Speaker 1: Hart all teaming up and being that team together. The
- 24:14Speaker 1: Knicks are given New Yorkers hope, aren't they. I just
- 24:17Speaker 1: feel like every night's a hopeful win. And because they're
- 24:22Speaker 1: stringing these streaks together, they had one earlier in this season. Hey,
- 24:25Speaker 1: they could be back up at the top of the
- 24:27Speaker 1: conference again, right, Louis, Well.
- 24:29Speaker 4: They're up there there now. And I don't think you
- 24:35Speaker 4: can get a handle on how these teams this is
- 24:38Speaker 4: for the league, this is not just for the Knicks,
- 24:40Speaker 4: on how these teams are going to perform in the
- 24:42Speaker 4: playoffs by looking at the regular season. It's really hard
- 24:46Speaker 4: in the NBA that of twenty twenty four to twenty
- 24:50Speaker 4: five and the last couple of years of getting a
- 24:52Speaker 4: handle on how teams are going to perform in the playoffs.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Cleveland is thirty seven and none, you know, wherever the
- 25:00Speaker 4: heck they are. I don't know how they're going to
- 25:02Speaker 4: perform in a playoffs. Are they just taking care of
- 25:05Speaker 4: Are they more focused on the regular season that most
- 25:10Speaker 4: NBA teams don't really care about. Could be I'm not
- 25:16Speaker 4: saying that that it is. But the Knicks, I mean,
- 25:21Speaker 4: obviously nixt town is tremendous. They made some tremendous acquisitions
- 25:24Speaker 4: last year and this year. And I still want to
- 25:27Speaker 4: know a reason why the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Karl Anthony
- 25:32Speaker 4: Towns a week before training camp. That's just that's a
- 25:37Speaker 4: mystery to me. And there's never really been clarity on
- 25:41Speaker 4: why Minnesota did it. But that's neither here nor there.
- 25:47Speaker 4: I would worry a little bit about the Celtics. They
- 25:50Speaker 4: seem to be going through the motions, and that's what
- 25:51Speaker 4: I'm saying. Are they going through the emotions now and
- 25:54Speaker 4: then when the playoffs be in, they're going to just
- 25:56Speaker 4: hit the on mutton. That's very tricky. Trying to hit
- 25:59Speaker 4: the on off switch doesn't mean doesn't mean that you're
- 26:03Speaker 4: going to get through uh the uh uh the playoffs.
- 26:09Speaker 4: That aren't trying to hit that on off switch and
- 26:11Speaker 4: thinking you can turn it on at at at any time.
- 26:15Speaker 4: Is tricky, but we'll see. Right now, the Knicks are
- 26:18Speaker 4: only one game behind the Celtics, and uh, I think
- 26:22Speaker 4: the Knicks are going to try to win it. Not
- 26:24Speaker 4: I think the Knicks are gonna try to win a
- 26:26Speaker 4: division because it puts him in a better seating position
- 26:29Speaker 4: and the end couch Alex. There's no reason why the
- 26:35Speaker 4: Knicks can't get to the conference final or an NBA
- 26:37Speaker 4: final this year. No reason.
- 26:39Speaker 1: And we said that last year too. And the other
- 26:42Speaker 1: difference maker is a healthy ob which we didn't have
- 26:44Speaker 1: in the postseason last year. Now he seems to be back.
- 26:48Speaker 4: I mean, he's a better overall as a team this year.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And I tell you, Kat's really taking him and Jalen
- 26:56Speaker 1: are off to the All Star Game, by the way,
- 26:57Speaker 1: but him and Kat haveing been taking the bouquets. But
- 27:01Speaker 1: I think Obi and Heart are definitely worth mentioning too.
- 27:05Speaker 4: I mean, come on, he's Jason Hart, a guy who
- 27:08Speaker 4: bounced from team to team the first four years of
- 27:11Speaker 4: his career. When the Knicks got him, I said, okay,
- 27:14Speaker 4: spare part, okay, you know, and he's the perfect fit
- 27:20Speaker 4: for this team. And he's raised his game. He went
- 27:23Speaker 4: from a spare part to a solid, more than solid
- 27:27Speaker 4: NBA player, a guy who can compliment a winning team.
- 27:31Speaker 4: And that's what he's done. I mean, the guy hustles
- 27:34Speaker 4: all the time. He's an undersized rebounder, A seven foot
- 27:39Speaker 4: guys don't rebound like this kid. He's done a fantastic jobs. Next,
- 27:42Speaker 4: it was a great It was a great steal, a
- 27:45Speaker 4: great pickup for the Knicks. Does anybody miss? Does anybody
- 27:49Speaker 4: miss quickly?
- 27:50Speaker 1: Now? Pys nically Barrett?
- 27:54Speaker 3: Right?
- 27:54Speaker 1: I mean, does.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Anybody miss Barrett? Now? Do they?
- 27:57Speaker 1: When we and people were mourning that trade? Me too
- 28:00Speaker 1: because I wasn't sure what that would mean? And actually
- 28:03Speaker 1: does that many miss Randall? Right? That's the other big one?
- 28:06Speaker 4: Well, well again, I always told you that was addition
- 28:08Speaker 4: by subtraction Randall. Can I take you so far? They
- 28:12Speaker 4: don't miss Randall? They do not miss Randall?
- 28:16Speaker 1: I mean quite a different And you know what cris
- 28:19Speaker 1: to leon Rose, who knows what he's doing, even if
- 28:23Speaker 1: may not look like because I didn't get to the
- 28:24Speaker 1: final last year, he knows what he's doing every year.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I mean, this guy's been well.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Again and again, let's let's let's cool od Jets. Remember
- 28:31Speaker 4: he also signed Kemba Walker and uh Eric Fournier and
- 28:35Speaker 4: those were two those two guys were shot when they
- 28:38Speaker 4: signed him.
- 28:39Speaker 1: So they say Fournier, what a what a disgraced exit
- 28:43Speaker 1: from New York that was, because I mean, that.
- 28:45Speaker 4: Was just a bad signing by the Knicks. You know,
- 28:48Speaker 4: it's nothing that the kid did.
- 28:51Speaker 1: It was rough, but it was not a pretty divorce either.
- 28:54Speaker 1: But you know, now there are better days and better
- 28:57Speaker 1: wins and go far. Because of what happened last year
- 29:03Speaker 1: and the fact they lost in seven to Indiana, not
- 29:06Speaker 1: only the players but New Yorkers are like, all right,
- 29:09Speaker 1: let's get over that hump this year, let's get to
- 29:11Speaker 1: the conference final and more. I mean a lot of
- 29:13Speaker 1: people are probably walking to that garden thinking Larry O'Brien trophy, right,
- 29:18Speaker 1: So yeah.
- 29:20Speaker 4: I mean you want I would say that they have
- 29:23Speaker 4: they have a chance. It all depends on on the
- 29:26Speaker 4: uh the bracket. It really does, and you know what,
- 29:33Speaker 4: we'll we'll we'll see what happens. But they had there
- 29:38Speaker 4: were deam of stars.
- 29:39Speaker 1: The one topic I really want to get your take
- 29:41Speaker 1: on is what is happening in the NBA that Adam
- 29:46Speaker 1: Silver wants to make this The commissioner wants to make
- 29:49Speaker 1: it ten minute quarters. I mean, there are historical records
- 29:52Speaker 1: that could never be broken. Now I'm hearing if they
- 29:55Speaker 1: go to you know, forty minutes instead of forty eight
- 29:59Speaker 1: as is the game two hours and fifteen minutes average,
- 30:02Speaker 1: that's incredible. Or ESPN research telling us that last night
- 30:06Speaker 1: and right what's the difference, what would be the difference?
- 30:08Speaker 1: What's the reason because all the stars would play, there'd
- 30:11Speaker 1: be no reason to sit somebody? Is that maybe?
- 30:13Speaker 4: Why? Well, a couple of things. And you know, as
- 30:16Speaker 4: as you pointed out, last night games right now for
- 30:21Speaker 4: this year two hours and sixteen minutes, and ESPN research
- 30:24Speaker 4: over the last fifteen years says two hours and fifteen minutes.
- 30:28Speaker 4: The game is short as it is, it's by far
- 30:31Speaker 4: the shortest time of any game played in the NFL,
- 30:36Speaker 4: the NHL, or or Major League Baseball. It's a bad
- 30:40Speaker 4: idea short in the game. Why so it fits into
- 30:43Speaker 4: the two hour television window. Alex, that's that's that's not
- 30:50Speaker 4: going to do it. And if he said this might help,
- 30:53Speaker 4: Adam Silver said, this might help us load management horse.
- 30:57Speaker 4: You know why players are still going to take off
- 31:02Speaker 4: they're gonna be all full and management just because you
- 31:06Speaker 4: take eight minutes off a game, which I believe is
- 31:09Speaker 4: like the equivalent of fifteen full games if you go
- 31:13Speaker 4: if you play forty eight minutes. But again, players are
- 31:18Speaker 4: still going to take off. There's gonna be load management anyway.
- 31:23Speaker 4: They start doing these gimmicks just like Major League Baseball did,
- 31:27Speaker 4: and we're not gonna go through the Major League Baseball
- 31:28Speaker 4: gimmicks again. But this is just another gimmick? Is it?
- 31:33Speaker 4: A gimmick?
- 31:33Speaker 1: Right now? Is allowing billions of dollars to be spending
- 31:36Speaker 1: to one player millions of dollars spending in one player.
- 31:39Speaker 1: That's the gimmick the MLB is struggling with right now.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Because we'll get to that before we end the show today,
- 31:44Speaker 1: by the way, because there's a lot about that too.
- 31:46Speaker 4: But any NBA has this in season tournament, who cares?
- 31:51Speaker 4: I don't who wanted this year? Milwaukee, right Milwaukee, I
- 31:54Speaker 4: could barely remember the They have this playing tournament to
- 32:01Speaker 4: get a tenth place team and that doesn't deserve to
- 32:04Speaker 4: even smell the playoffs, But they do it so they
- 32:07Speaker 4: can sell at to one of these net to one
- 32:11Speaker 4: of these networks or one of these streaming companies, and Alex,
- 32:15Speaker 4: I'm gonna be honest with you, the regular season is unwatchable.
- 32:19Speaker 4: It's unwatchable, it really is.
- 32:21Speaker 1: And uh, you know, well you kind of know every
- 32:23Speaker 1: night it's going to be one hundred plus points per team.
- 32:26Speaker 1: I mean, it's sort of predictable too, how much it's
- 32:28Speaker 1: gonna be and all that other stuff we'll have to see.
- 32:33Speaker 1: And then I'm sure the other thing about this league
- 32:36Speaker 1: is there are concerns out there and maybe one of
- 32:39Speaker 1: they started putting in a four point line that was exaggeration,
- 32:41Speaker 1: but they're worried about other gimmicks that could becoming the NBA.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Are you worried about that?
- 32:46Speaker 4: Well, I saw that four point line story. If that happens,
- 32:50Speaker 4: I may never watch here. Talking to a guy who
- 32:53Speaker 4: spent almost three decades in the NBA and this is
- 32:58Speaker 4: a four point line makes me sick. That's terrible. It's unwatchable.
- 33:04Speaker 4: That's that's as bad as the gold Thank god that
- 33:07Speaker 4: Goldeneck bat got knocked down right away four point I
- 33:11Speaker 4: saw that too, I mean, thank god it got knocked down.
- 33:15Speaker 1: And then the other idea they were floating was that
- 33:17Speaker 1: if a guy gets held on the three they get
- 33:18Speaker 1: to shoot two free throw What is that? That doesn't
- 33:21Speaker 1: make sense to me either. I don't I don't get that.
- 33:23Speaker 4: No, like I said, they're putting these dopey gimmicks in there,
- 33:25Speaker 4: and uh, I don't know then. And I'm going to
- 33:30Speaker 4: tell you one thing. Uh you know, you talk about
- 33:33Speaker 4: Kansas City getting calls and I'm just gonna make this
- 33:34Speaker 4: prediction here and at the end of January, the end
- 33:38Speaker 4: the NBA now needs. For years, they didn't need New
- 33:41Speaker 4: York anymore, but I think now they do. So any
- 33:45Speaker 4: close call in the playoffs, I'm gonna say this right now,
- 33:48Speaker 4: at the end of January, the Knicks are getting them.
- 33:51Speaker 4: I'm telling you, if there's a close call, the Knicks
- 33:54Speaker 4: will be getting them in the playoffs. The NBA, the
- 33:57Speaker 4: NBA needs the Knicks right now to go far because
- 34:00Speaker 4: the TV ratings are are have fallen down and they
- 34:04Speaker 4: need I do believe that could be wrong, And I'm
- 34:07Speaker 4: not saying that the games are fixed. They are not fixed,
- 34:10Speaker 4: but benefit the doubt like the Chiefs get benefit of
- 34:13Speaker 4: the doubt. Don't be surprised. I could be wrong.
- 34:18Speaker 1: There were calls last year that people were like, well,
- 34:20Speaker 1: how come the Knicks that were able to get that
- 34:21Speaker 1: extra shot off or something right, and.
- 34:23Speaker 4: That one game against Philly, you know that they blew it.
- 34:26Speaker 4: But so again, I'm just throwing it out there. I'm
- 34:30Speaker 4: not a conspiracy theorist as far as saying games are fixed.
- 34:33Speaker 4: They're not, but you know they're benefited. Doubt the either
- 34:38Speaker 4: way call, just like people think the Chiefs are getting
- 34:41Speaker 4: the either way call. I have a feeling, and I
- 34:43Speaker 4: could be wrong, that might be going the next way.
- 34:47Speaker 4: This playoff season, we'll see if the Knicks are playing
- 34:52Speaker 4: in Orlando Magic in the first round, and the Magic,
- 34:56Speaker 4: who have a pretty good team, they've been really beat
- 34:59Speaker 4: up the share with injury, they have a chance to
- 35:01Speaker 4: beat them in the sixth game or seventh game, and
- 35:03Speaker 4: here's a close call. I don't think the Magic are
- 35:07Speaker 4: getting the call. That's all. That's all I'm saying.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Well, you know, while we're on the NBA topic, the
- 35:13Speaker 1: other thing about Coast to Coast here is the complete
- 35:17Speaker 1: implosion of what seems to be the Lakers. I don't
- 35:19Speaker 1: know what's going on over there, but they're not the
- 35:22Speaker 1: franchise they once were. You know, not only just the
- 35:26Speaker 1: winning part, but just the fabric of the team. It
- 35:28Speaker 1: doesn't seem to be there. Am I missing something little?
- 35:30Speaker 4: Well? I mean at twenty six or nineteen, I don't
- 35:33Speaker 4: know if anybody thought they would be much better than that.
- 35:36Speaker 4: But now Anthony Davis has a pulled, pulled stomach muscle
- 35:41Speaker 4: or something might be out for a week. As great
- 35:45Speaker 4: as Lebron still is, I don't know if the chemistry
- 35:51Speaker 4: is there. He got Lebron, you got Anthony Davis, and
- 35:53Speaker 4: you would say, all right, that should be enough to
- 35:56Speaker 4: put you within sniffing distance of the Oklahoma City Thunder
- 36:02Speaker 4: and where they're nowhere near them. And let me say
- 36:05Speaker 4: one thing. Two years ago, the Houston Rockets won fifteen
- 36:09Speaker 4: games and won sixty seven and o'doka became the head coach.
- 36:15Speaker 4: He had he left in disgrace in Boston after he
- 36:17Speaker 4: were suspended for some indiscretions with with a sexual situation.
- 36:24Speaker 4: Other teams didn't want to sign them. The Nets, we're
- 36:26Speaker 4: going to sign him, and then backed off at the
- 36:28Speaker 4: eleventh hour. He went to Houston. He did a great
- 36:31Speaker 4: job last year, and this year the Rockets, the young
- 36:34Speaker 4: Rockets are thirty two and fourteen, and we don't know
- 36:37Speaker 4: a lot of their Stars. We don't know a lot
- 36:39Speaker 4: of their contributing plays. They are thirty two and fourteen.
- 36:42Speaker 4: They have the second seat in the in the Western Conference.
- 36:46Speaker 4: He's a great coach. Yeah, I'm not gonna sit here
- 36:51Speaker 4: and judge him Morley, that's for him. But the only
- 36:54Speaker 4: thing I know, he's a great he's a great basketball
- 36:58Speaker 4: coach and he's done a great job with them. And
- 37:01Speaker 4: the Nets should have hired them after that, but they
- 37:03Speaker 4: got gun shy. So but the Nets have a fine
- 37:06Speaker 4: coach and Geordian I remember.
- 37:07Speaker 1: How disastrous that was too, because it was like they
- 37:10Speaker 1: were gonna have them and they didn't have them. It's
- 37:11Speaker 1: just a lot with the Nets, and the Nets are
- 37:14Speaker 1: another team. I know that you work with them, you
- 37:16Speaker 1: follow them, and you're very frustrated with them. But we
- 37:18Speaker 1: can get that through another day.
- 37:20Speaker 4: Because it's all about Cooper Flag, my friend, and they're
- 37:23Speaker 4: doing a very good job of making sure that they
- 37:26Speaker 4: get into that top three or top four. I mean,
- 37:30Speaker 4: that's a problem with the NBA tanking and it's so rampant,
- 37:34Speaker 4: and it's they don't even try to hide it.
- 37:35Speaker 1: But that's why I wonder if he's making it so
- 37:37Speaker 1: that you can't sit any guys. You could basically pay
- 37:41Speaker 1: your five guys. There's no reason to sit somebody in
- 37:43Speaker 1: a forty minute game. He might think, well maybe all
- 37:46Speaker 1: that guys.
- 37:47Speaker 4: You know, they they went there was tanking when I
- 37:52Speaker 4: was in the league, so they went to the lottery,
- 37:54Speaker 4: and now there's tanking to get in the lottery. So
- 37:58Speaker 4: I don't know the answer is.
- 38:01Speaker 1: The other two storylines is that it seems like almost
- 38:04Speaker 1: every week you're seeing these possible deals falling through, which
- 38:08Speaker 1: also includes the honest I mean, I don't know why
- 38:10Speaker 1: the Bucks want to moving, but it seems like they
- 38:13Speaker 1: have shopped him around a little bit. And then the
- 38:16Speaker 1: Butler story is very interesting because this guy keeps down,
- 38:21Speaker 1: showing up, keeps getting suspended, and the heater in the
- 38:23Speaker 1: midst of a playoff race. I mean, how bad does
- 38:25Speaker 1: this look for Miami.
- 38:27Speaker 4: It's just I mean, it just goes to show you
- 38:30Speaker 4: Butler is everything what's wrong about the NBA. And we've
- 38:34Speaker 4: seen it. We saw we've seen it with every team
- 38:37Speaker 4: that in the league. The players can run the league
- 38:42Speaker 4: and the only thing is a franchise that is coached
- 38:47Speaker 4: by Eric Spolstra and is run by Hall of Fame
- 38:51Speaker 4: executive and pat Riley. They aren't going to take no crap.
- 38:55Speaker 4: And he's given them more than one chance to get
- 38:59Speaker 4: back in the And this guy's been suspended for the
- 39:02Speaker 4: third time this year. I don't think he'll play for
- 39:04Speaker 4: the Miami Heat anymore. But the thing is the guy
- 39:06Speaker 4: will get traded, He'll go somewhere else. These guys, these
- 39:09Speaker 4: guys don't change. It's said, it's said, there really is.
- 39:15Speaker 4: I mean, here's Jimmy Bulterer, who was an okay Big
- 39:19Speaker 4: East player, not a star in any way, shape or
- 39:21Speaker 4: for him, and he made himself into a superstar. He's
- 39:25Speaker 4: made a lot of money. And I don't know. I
- 39:29Speaker 4: don't know what these guys wanted. They make more money
- 39:32Speaker 4: than anybody in in professional sports. I don't get it, Alex,
- 39:37Speaker 4: I really don't. It's it's it's a turnoff. It's an
- 39:41Speaker 4: absolute turnoff.
- 39:44Speaker 1: You know what else is a turnoff. And we'll get
- 39:47Speaker 1: to more of the NBA because I also see the
- 39:49Speaker 1: Balls have been trying to ship people out. I mean,
- 39:52Speaker 1: this trade headline might be wild. We'll have to see
- 39:54Speaker 1: how that goes. But I want to go another turnoff,
- 39:56Speaker 1: and that is the fact that Alonzo's letting Scott Boris
- 40:02Speaker 1: dictate how he handles this Met situation, and Peter Alonso,
- 40:06Speaker 1: to be quite frank, has not handled this well at all.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Can I say the term piss poor? It's been that bad,
- 40:11Speaker 1: And I think it's just because Boris is in the
- 40:14Speaker 1: guy's head, isn't he.
- 40:16Speaker 4: Well, you are one right, and this is not going
- 40:19Speaker 4: to turn out well in my opinion. I hope I'm wrong.
- 40:23Speaker 4: For Peter Alonso, the Mets will be fine. He should
- 40:26Speaker 4: have signed that Met deal a couple of years ago,
- 40:28Speaker 4: and he made a mistake when the Mets well from
- 40:31Speaker 4: Met twenty three million dollars a year for seven years,
- 40:34Speaker 4: and then he fired his agent who got him that deal.
- 40:39Speaker 4: He fired his agent and he hired Boris, who thinks
- 40:43Speaker 4: he runs major league baseball. And unfortunately Boris might be right,
- 40:47Speaker 4: he might run major league baseball in many ways. But
- 40:53Speaker 4: I don't think he's re signing with the Mets. The
- 40:55Speaker 4: only way he resigned with the Mets. I think all
- 40:58Speaker 4: of his other options are not are not available if
- 41:02Speaker 4: he signs somewhere else, if he signs with the Detroit Tigers,
- 41:05Speaker 4: which hasn't I haven't seen it. Anyone just throwing that
- 41:07Speaker 4: out there or or the Toronto Blue Jays. He's gonna
- 41:12Speaker 4: be miserable. He's gonna be miserable, Alex. I mean, how
- 41:18Speaker 4: many bedrooms or bathrooms do you need? You can buy
- 41:21Speaker 4: the same You could buy the same bedroom house with
- 41:24Speaker 4: seven bathrooms or six bathrooms and seven bedrooms making twenty
- 41:28Speaker 4: three million dollars a year for the next five years,
- 41:32Speaker 4: like the same as if you're making thirty five million dollars.
- 41:36Speaker 4: I mean, come on, I mean, you know you can
- 41:40Speaker 4: only sleep in one bed at a time. You know,
- 41:45Speaker 4: It's it's ridiculous. He's gonna be miserable, Alex. I'm telling
- 41:49Speaker 4: you he's gonna go somewhere. He's gonna be miserable.
- 41:53Speaker 1: But I was just gonna say, you know, Boris is
- 41:55Speaker 1: the same guy that's responsible before really screwing up the
- 41:58Speaker 1: year of I know, I kind of rebound Blake Snell
- 42:00Speaker 1: and Jordan Montgomery starting late. Yeah. I mean, that's really
- 42:04Speaker 1: all you need to know about Scott Boris, the.
- 42:05Speaker 4: Guy Martinez too last year.
- 42:09Speaker 1: He has no care for the teams. There's no statesmanship
- 42:15Speaker 1: here with Scott Borris. It's just his way the highway,
- 42:18Speaker 1: and that's going to ruin baseball if they really let
- 42:20Speaker 1: him take control of the league. And then you know,
- 42:24Speaker 1: there's theories out there that there's gonna be a union dispute,
- 42:28Speaker 1: and I kind of agree with that idea.
- 42:30Speaker 4: Luis that Yeah, no, I hear you. I mean, they
- 42:35Speaker 4: gotta take care of his nonsense because everybody talks about
- 42:37Speaker 4: Stephen Cohen. Stephen Cohen might be the richest single honer
- 42:40Speaker 4: in baseball, but the Dodgers conglomerate is worth over three
- 42:45Speaker 4: hundred billion dollars and what the Dodgers are doing in
- 42:48Speaker 4: baseball is terrible. It's terrible.
- 42:52Speaker 1: By the way, did you know Magic Johnson has stake
- 42:54Speaker 1: in the Commanders as well? I mean, this guy is everywhere.
- 42:57Speaker 4: I had no idea Magic is quite the entrepreneur. I
- 43:01Speaker 4: did not, Actually, I didn't know that until I saw
- 43:03Speaker 4: it the other day about Magic and the Commanders. Yeah.
- 43:09Speaker 1: And then we had how Simon and Ay I guess
- 43:10Speaker 1: saying and I love the Simon Andy family saying well,
- 43:13Speaker 1: we don't know the Dodgers year is going to turn out,
- 43:15Speaker 1: almost saying, you know, we can't really compete with them.
- 43:17Speaker 4: I guess, so that that is the most that is
- 43:20Speaker 4: hilarious for him to say that they are the ones
- 43:22Speaker 4: who they are the ones who started this said fifty
- 43:25Speaker 4: years ago. So I'm not feeling sorry for al Steinbrenner
- 43:30Speaker 4: that first of all, the Yankees hat will have no
- 43:32Speaker 4: competition in the American League. As I said to you
- 43:35Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago, the American League right now,
- 43:37Speaker 4: at the end of January, we look at it. The
- 43:39Speaker 4: American League stinks and the playoff series. Yes, should they
- 43:44Speaker 4: breeze through the regular season. They should breeze through the
- 43:47Speaker 4: regular season.
- 43:49Speaker 1: But but I some think they need another bat. I mean,
- 43:52Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna get through with just Judgings Tinton.
- 43:56Speaker 1: They need that other bat there. I mean, because it's
- 44:00Speaker 1: is gonna.
- 44:00Speaker 4: Be themand's going to be on the team. Is he
- 44:03Speaker 4: gonna make the team? I don't know. I mean, are
- 44:06Speaker 4: you gonna sign Bregman? They did? You know they have?
- 44:09Speaker 4: They did? They? Did you know? They they did sign Bellinger?
- 44:12Speaker 4: Cordion Bellinger should be a bat for them. He should be,
- 44:17Speaker 4: especially with that short porch. He's a great athlete. I mean,
- 44:22Speaker 4: I can't see the Yankees having any difficulties unless they
- 44:26Speaker 4: have injuries. But I love the fact they have a
- 44:29Speaker 4: great pitching staff.
- 44:30Speaker 1: We are different than the average fan, because the average fan,
- 44:33Speaker 1: especially on the Mets side, went to Amazing Day at
- 44:36Speaker 1: City Field last week and started yelling at Steve Cohen
- 44:40Speaker 1: to sign Alonzo. And here you and I Isa saying
- 44:43Speaker 1: it's not a Cohen's fault, it's really Borius and Alonzo's fault.
- 44:46Speaker 1: I mean, no one's thinking about.
- 44:47Speaker 4: It that way.
- 44:47Speaker 1: If you're a fan right now.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Well, fans are emotional. Well, well, let's face it, we're
- 44:53Speaker 4: all emotional, even us as fans, you know, even though
- 44:57Speaker 4: we look at it through a different lens, But was
- 44:59Speaker 4: fans are emotional. We want our you know, we want
- 45:02Speaker 4: to see our our our our teams be successful. We
- 45:05Speaker 4: want to see players who have been successful with the
- 45:08Speaker 4: team and contribute to team success stay with the team.
- 45:11Speaker 4: And unfortunately, in modern sports that's not the way anymore.
- 45:18Speaker 1: So we'll see exactly we will and uh, louis always
- 45:22Speaker 1: a pleasure. Anything else you want to do a Termino's
- 45:24Speaker 1: take on this week before we wrap up today?
- 45:29Speaker 4: No, not not really, Like I said, everything, Once we
- 45:33Speaker 4: get past the super Bowl, the winter sports seasons will
- 45:38Speaker 4: be in high gear. Spring training will be here. Uh
- 45:43Speaker 4: college basketball tournament will be here. Which is obviously the
- 45:47Speaker 4: best part of the college basketball season, and you know
- 45:51Speaker 4: that's what we have to look forward to. But right now,
- 45:53Speaker 4: it's all about h February ninth, six point thirty, New Orleans, Louisiana.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Can can Chiefs make it three straight Super Bowl victories
- 46:03Speaker 4: in a row? And we'll talk about that next week,
- 46:06Speaker 4: I'm sure.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Absolutely, And I guess we should mention our thoughts in
- 46:11Speaker 1: prayers with families because there were indeed sports figures, in fact,
- 46:17Speaker 1: figure skaters on that plane.
- 46:19Speaker 7: I mean, horrible, horrible, horrible tragedy, community a horrible tragedy,
- 46:27Speaker 7: and you know that is something you can't even get
- 46:31Speaker 7: you get your head around.
- 46:33Speaker 4: It's just uh, it's it's it's just terrible. And we
- 46:37Speaker 4: pray for we pray for everyone who are going through
- 46:40Speaker 4: these stuff times now, and it's just terrible.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Well, in that note, Lou Termino's take back next week
- 46:45Speaker 1: with a odd video presentation for the Super Bowl preview.
- 46:48Speaker 1: We got to do that, right, Louis, And a little
- 46:50Speaker 1: bit forward to it all right, Termino's take for the
- 46:53Speaker 1: week of January twenty seven. Thanks for joining me, Lou,
- 46:56Speaker 1: Thank you, Alex
