- 0:12Speaker 2: After begging for him to come on the show for
- 0:15Speaker 2: four fucking years, it feels like every time I see
- 0:17Speaker 2: this guy at an event, I'd be like, YEO, what
- 0:18Speaker 2: the fuck? Man? What the fuck?
- 0:19Speaker 3: Man?
- 0:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I got you, I got you, I got you. Well,
- 0:21Speaker 2: he's finally here. X Rated is here.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Hey, man, I appreciate you. I always wanted to. I
- 0:27Speaker 1: wanted to come when.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I was off parole.
- 0:29Speaker 1: That was a big deal for me, and also I
- 0:32Speaker 1: wanted to make sure that I had some product lined up.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I knew what I was working on, I knew what
- 0:37Speaker 1: my mission was, and I still was trying to figure
- 0:39Speaker 1: it out. Honestly, I viewed you as you were, you
- 0:43Speaker 1: on my list your goals, so I just was like, man,
- 0:47Speaker 1: I have to I'm not ready. I'm not ready. I'm
- 0:49Speaker 1: not ready. And then bowl here you are and it's
- 0:51Speaker 1: organic and it's dope.
- 0:54Speaker 2: First of all, when did you get off probation or
- 0:57Speaker 2: parole or whatever.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I got off parole on March first, and then half
- 1:00Speaker 1: a million dollar video with Tech nine. We stopped to
- 1:03Speaker 1: eat lunch and I got my phone checking, you know,
- 1:07Speaker 1: because we had our phone city side, and I got
- 1:09Speaker 1: an email while I was holding the phone. I click
- 1:11Speaker 1: on it and it's like my po like, hey man,
- 1:14Speaker 1: congratulations you offer life for parole. Because I was on
- 1:18Speaker 1: life parole, wasn't on smoke some weed and they overcrowded.
- 1:21Speaker 1: They don't got nowhere to put you parole, life parole.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I was on life for parol. So when I got out,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I was still a lifer, and you're still a lifeer
- 1:29Speaker 1: during parole. So you run around light that cop having
- 1:32Speaker 1: a bad morning. You go right back to prison with
- 1:36Speaker 1: a life sentence as a lifer, and they'll see you
- 1:39Speaker 1: when they want to to figure out whether or not
- 1:42Speaker 1: you should be released or kept. Yeah, so that was
- 1:46Speaker 1: the experience I was having, Damn. Yeah. So March first,
- 1:49Speaker 1: twenty twenty two, I got off and I kind of
- 1:52Speaker 1: you know, turned in my album. Had to figure out
- 1:55Speaker 1: now I could live where I want to live, had
- 1:58Speaker 1: to figure that out, get situated, get an album out
- 2:01Speaker 1: the way that just kind of let me wrap this
- 2:03Speaker 1: up real quick. And so this album is kind of
- 2:06Speaker 1: more of a deliberate result of those outcomes and being free. Yo.
- 2:11Speaker 2: It's crazy because like when I was growing up as
- 2:14Speaker 2: a young kid, I remember discovering you through Brother Lynch,
- 2:17Speaker 2: so I was a season of the Sickness is like
- 2:20Speaker 2: one of my favorite albums ever. Shout to Brother Lynch,
- 2:23Speaker 2: fucking classic album. Indeed, I've played it on the podcast
- 2:26Speaker 2: for many people. I'm like, you don't understand. There was
- 2:28Speaker 2: this guy who used to talk about eating babies when
- 2:30Speaker 2: I was a kid, and I believe them, and they
- 2:32Speaker 2: used to freak me the fuck out. Yeah, I'd be
- 2:34Speaker 2: listening to Brother Lynch by playing Resident Evil just fucked
- 2:36Speaker 2: up childhood, you know what I mean, Yeah, fucking killing
- 2:39Speaker 2: zombies while this dude is talking about fucking killing babies.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Anyway, shot to Brother Lynch. He's a legend pioneer of
- 2:46Speaker 2: horrorcore hip hop too. But like I dived into like
- 2:51Speaker 2: what you were doing, and then like me and my
- 2:53Speaker 2: homie Rams, this used to just trip out. How this
- 2:56Speaker 2: fool was like in prison recording fucking whole albums from
- 3:01Speaker 2: the pen and they were dope as fussed over the phone.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So you got locked up when you were seventeen, I did.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Now you were already signed the black market. Yeah, as
- 3:12Speaker 2: a juvenile. So what was the timeline between you signing
- 3:16Speaker 2: your record deal and you going to prison?
- 3:19Speaker 3: Okay? So I ended up.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I was the first artist ever for black Market Records.
- 3:24Speaker 3: So I ended up.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Me and my homeboy, young Meek from the Gardens, Big Meek.
- 3:31Speaker 1: We met up with Cedric, and then Meek and Cedric
- 3:35Speaker 1: came up with a plan. Cedric had black Market Records
- 3:38Speaker 1: in his pocket, in his brain, and Meek had the
- 3:40Speaker 1: Bird You know what I mean. This is nineteen ninety one, Okay,
- 3:44Speaker 1: nineteen ninety one, so I already have my niggas in
- 3:46Speaker 1: black ep out, me Lynch and six already have the
- 3:50Speaker 1: Endangered Species project that kind of became Nigga Deep, I believe.
- 3:54Speaker 1: And then we started linking up with Cedric, me and
- 3:58Speaker 1: Meek and and that's how we ended up turning in
- 4:02Speaker 1: Psychoactive in like December of ninety one.
- 4:07Speaker 2: And then how much further after that was you catching
- 4:11Speaker 2: your case and having to go sit down for two months?
- 4:14Speaker 2: Two months?
- 4:14Speaker 3: I was arrested maybe ninety days later.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, damn.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Yeah. It was a wild set of summers.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's crazy because we hear about like
- 4:26Speaker 2: Sack and how intense the violence is in Sacramento like now,
- 4:34Speaker 2: and I feel like it's obviously guys like Mazi are
- 4:37Speaker 2: huge coming out of the city. There's a lot of
- 4:39Speaker 2: guys DP about the bag and.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Lavish.
- 4:43Speaker 2: There's a lot of dope shit coming out of sack Nty.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah ce bow see Bowl a legend for sure, fucking
- 4:50Speaker 2: independent legend for yeah.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Sure.
- 4:53Speaker 2: But was it all because like obviously for people who
- 4:56Speaker 2: don't know, like you went to prison for it was
- 4:58Speaker 2: like a gang related homicide, right it was.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I was given gang relay homicide, first degree premeditated murdering
- 5:03Speaker 1: use of a firearm. That's what I got. Felt good to.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Ye, Like, how crazy was the gang seen in Sacramento
- 5:10Speaker 2: in the late eighties early nineties.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It was wild. It was very intense that the mid eighties.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It was just people were representing what they were representing.
- 5:21Speaker 1: My neighborhood got founded in the late seventies early eighties
- 5:25Speaker 1: as a result of Compton Crips coming to South Sacramento
- 5:29Speaker 1: to sell dope in our neighborhood, Nutty Blocks primarily, so
- 5:33Speaker 1: the Garden Block is really a result of our ancestors
- 5:38Speaker 1: being the Nutty Block Compton Cryps and some of the
- 5:41Speaker 1: Santana blocks. So Garden Block came from that, among other things.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I got a founding father from Garden Block here with me,
- 5:49Speaker 1: Big Dooney. But we ended up seeing where people was
- 5:53Speaker 1: just fighting. You know, our neighborhoods is all bloods and crips.
- 5:56Speaker 1: We in a box where and Northerners were in a box.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Franklin Boulevard, Medoview Road, Florin Road in Freeport.
- 6:04Speaker 3: That's kind of our box.
- 6:06Speaker 1: That would be the gardens a little bit above Franklin,
- 6:08Speaker 1: though they Franklin is Franklin, but everything above it is
- 6:11Speaker 1: the gardens. And you got the Metaview bloods in that box,
- 6:15Speaker 1: you got the twenty nine Street cribs, twenty fourth Street,
- 6:17Speaker 1: twenty first Street, who all together are nine one four
- 6:20Speaker 1: Garden Block cribs. And so in the beginning, in that
- 6:25Speaker 1: mid period, it was just a little bit of fighting
- 6:27Speaker 1: because even the bloods are the homies. You know, Garden
- 6:30Speaker 1: Block existed before Metaview did. Bloods wise, the Medaview always existed,
- 6:35Speaker 1: like I'm from Metable, we all from Metaview, but the
- 6:39Speaker 1: Metaview bloods kind of got born out of homies beating
- 6:42Speaker 1: up people and been getting beat up by people who
- 6:44Speaker 1: were technically homies. So the violence created, you know, where
- 6:48Speaker 1: they started standing on their own ten They from the
- 6:51Speaker 1: gardens too. They g two. It ain't no holes out there.
- 6:54Speaker 1: They really with the shit. And so somebody get clapped,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you know, and I tipped all the dominoes in the outside.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I can't speak for olk Park or they'll pass o heist.
- 7:03Speaker 1: That ain't I right. But they was with the shit
- 7:05Speaker 1: as well, but specifically on the South Side. You know,
- 7:09Speaker 1: in the late eighties, we had a homie get you know,
- 7:12Speaker 1: we got one that got smacked and then now somebody
- 7:14Speaker 1: else gets shmacked over there, and it just turned into
- 7:17Speaker 1: trading bodies crazy and that's the season of the sickness
- 7:21Speaker 1: was born from that.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Wild and so you catch that charge at seventeen seventeen.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're a kid man. I am a kid man,
- 7:29Speaker 1: just a baby. Now, looking back on that, I'm very
- 7:33Speaker 1: empathetic to that little dude and everybody that was with me,
- 7:36Speaker 1: everybody that all of us was babies. Were just some babies, man.
- 7:40Speaker 1: This guy, the kids.
- 7:42Speaker 2: It's so wild too because the thing like to where
- 7:45Speaker 2: we are now and like you know, the wires heu
- 7:48Speaker 2: trial and how like artists are having their lyrics use
- 7:51Speaker 2: against them actively. They used your album against you in court.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, they used the lyrics to my song Still Shooting,
- 7:59Speaker 1: which has a sample from Ultra Violet Dreams from Cypress
- 8:03Speaker 1: Hill in it. You know, so it's dope to be
- 8:05Speaker 1: able to talk to be real the other day. But yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 1: I had made Psychoactive. Ironically, I'm being executive produced by
- 8:14Speaker 1: a Medavie Blood who happens to be Siebo's little brother,
- 8:17Speaker 1: Big Miko Yure, and he's there when I record that song.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I recorded Still Shooting at the studio would have met
- 8:25Speaker 1: of you Blood in December of nineteen ninety one, and
- 8:28Speaker 1: they turn around by the summer of ninety two saying
- 8:33Speaker 1: this song was about this incident that occurred ninety days afterward,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and so they switched the title to this song. Clear that.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Was the guy who lost his life from that set
- 8:45Speaker 2: he was.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it actually was a woman, a woman a prominent
- 8:51Speaker 1: figure in our community and the mother of people who
- 8:54Speaker 1: you know those There was some disdaining and go alled
- 9:00Speaker 1: so her children were not being viewed favorably on our side,
- 9:04Speaker 1: and they didn't view us favorably. They was with the
- 9:06Speaker 1: shit you know what I mean, and they just they
- 9:08Speaker 1: was active, and so they take my song and say
- 9:12Speaker 1: it's about this incident that it had nothing to do with.
- 9:16Speaker 1: They changed the name to the Murder and call it
- 9:19Speaker 1: the murder, even though that was the intro with the
- 9:21Speaker 1: pizza man thing with me and brother Lynchon where we
- 9:24Speaker 1: pull up, pretend to be the pizza man, dude open
- 9:26Speaker 1: the door with gunning down. That's the murder. The song
- 9:28Speaker 1: is called still Shooting. So they changed the name of
- 9:30Speaker 1: the song to fit the narrative. Quote my lyrics broken
- 9:35Speaker 1: up so that it says what they wanted to say
- 9:38Speaker 1: a lot of context. Write those stories for the Sacramento
- 9:41Speaker 1: b tell those stories on channel on ABC NBC, all
- 9:45Speaker 1: of them, and then that gets picked up by the AP,
- 9:49Speaker 1: and then hip hop journalism repeated those stories instead of
- 9:53Speaker 1: writing it on like my home field. Advantage of hip
- 9:57Speaker 1: hop like now, someone like you would have dug in it.
- 10:00Speaker 1: You wouldn't have let that happen to me. You would
- 10:02Speaker 1: hope a live wouldn't have let that happened to me.
- 10:04Speaker 1: It would have been some people at Elliott Wilson who
- 10:07Speaker 1: would have disagreed with that. Ironically, Elliott could have disagreed
- 10:10Speaker 1: with it, then I think and didn't.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Maybe, yeah, I don't. I mean, I don't know what
- 10:14Speaker 2: Ellie was doing in ninety one. He might have entered
- 10:16Speaker 2: something I don't know.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he might not have had the power in ninety
- 10:19Speaker 1: one ninety two. That's true. But what I do say
- 10:22Speaker 1: is that hip hop media did not tell the story themselves.
- 10:27Speaker 1: They just repeated the story that originated from conservative news
- 10:30Speaker 1: media in Sacramento, which is a republic Republican dominated environment
- 10:35Speaker 1: at the time, it was an anti crime environment. It
- 10:38Speaker 1: was a it was a different culture. And Sacramento also
- 10:42Speaker 1: used me in a sensational way to have a viral story,
- 10:45Speaker 1: what we would call a viral story. One of the
- 10:48Speaker 1: first times there was something that Sack was on the
- 10:51Speaker 1: map for that they could be proud for. Sack always
- 10:54Speaker 1: been the little brother in California. Sure, and so you
- 10:57Speaker 1: had the Doro, THEA Shuentez thing that gave Sack got
- 11:00Speaker 1: his beak wet with national entertainment true crime kind of shit,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and I think they got thirsty. And so when my
- 11:08Speaker 1: thing happened, they sold that story and used it. It
- 11:12Speaker 1: was ratings, it was you know, it sold papers, and
- 11:14Speaker 1: that's what they did. They told they tore up a
- 11:16Speaker 1: seventeen year old child.
- 11:18Speaker 2: That shit's crazy. Yeah, And that was also kind of
- 11:23Speaker 2: like I feel like the era of like the demonization
- 11:26Speaker 2: of hip hop because you got to think between like
- 11:29Speaker 2: the two Lave Cruise ship n w A was a
- 11:31Speaker 2: little before that, and just like there were so many
- 11:34Speaker 2: politicians stopping on CDs, Piper Gore and uh, what's the
- 11:38Speaker 2: lady from l A The lords lawis Tucker.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:43Speaker 2: It was like there was like this real like anti
- 11:45Speaker 2: hip hop agenda like on really to mo like the
- 11:49Speaker 2: left too, Like it was a lot of democrats.
- 11:50Speaker 1: A lot of a lot of it, A lot of
- 11:52Speaker 1: it was coming from that. It was both sides, both
- 11:54Speaker 1: sides this ship. Yeah, the FBI on n WA for
- 11:58Speaker 1: fuck the Police, Tipper Gore and all of them on
- 12:02Speaker 1: two Live Crew. Here they come with band in the USA,
- 12:05Speaker 1: the ghetto boys, Jay Prince coming under attack, so they
- 12:09Speaker 1: got to make we can't be stopped, you know, Uh,
- 12:12Speaker 1: Time Warner turning on Ice Tea crazy. It was a
- 12:17Speaker 1: lot in this era. That's what I was talking about
- 12:19Speaker 1: Mike Tyson and what he was going through. But I'll
- 12:22Speaker 1: talking about now that entering that stage of Tupac, the
- 12:25Speaker 1: demonization of Tupac and uh or the selling of his
- 12:29Speaker 1: sensational story. It's kind of what they were doing. And
- 12:33Speaker 1: so you had oj occurring. It was it was a
- 12:36Speaker 1: rough time in this to be a part of the
- 12:38Speaker 1: culture at the time.
- 12:40Speaker 2: What was your family like home like like like life
- 12:43Speaker 2: like at home? Obviously being seventeen, rapping, being act in
- 12:46Speaker 2: the streets with your parents around like so.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I had.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Earlier.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I had my grandmother, Miss Maxine, you know Tammas Sharner
- 12:55Speaker 1: and Florn Road in South Sacramento. You know, my family
- 12:58Speaker 1: all in the gardens Castelinda, Castelinda in twenty fourth Street,
- 13:03Speaker 1: Nedra Court, And so that period in my life was
- 13:06Speaker 1: beautiful up until my grandmother passed and she kind of
- 13:09Speaker 1: was the glue to health the family together. And when
- 13:11Speaker 1: she passed away leadership, you know, who's gonna take over,
- 13:14Speaker 1: who's that next person? There wasn't really anybody in position.
- 13:18Speaker 1: The people who were in position, like my mom, were
- 13:21Speaker 1: in griev they were grieving. And so while they were grieving,
- 13:24Speaker 1: I went outside and so I'm with my big cousins
- 13:28Speaker 1: Artie Barnes AJ from twenty fourth Street, you know, dun
- 13:32Speaker 1: play I'm with my family members, and so yeah, I
- 13:36Speaker 1: didn't have a lot of supervision. My father's from Pritchard, Alabama.
- 13:39Speaker 1: He met my mama in Sacramento. My uncle went to
- 13:42Speaker 1: my uncle Bodic's house across from Oak Park Community Center
- 13:45Speaker 1: back in the day, and so my cousin, Jimmy broad
- 13:48Speaker 1: Knat lived right across from the Oak Park Community Center,
- 13:52Speaker 1: and my mom would always be over there with my aunt,
- 13:54Speaker 1: my grandmother's sister, and next door was my father's uncle,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and that's how they linked up. And you know, here
- 14:01Speaker 1: I am, but he goes home to Alabama. He was
- 14:03Speaker 1: just visiting family, and so I didn't really have a
- 14:06Speaker 1: two parent home. I probably spent a total of three
- 14:09Speaker 1: or four years with my father out of my entire life,
- 14:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And that's brutal. It's brutal.
- 14:14Speaker 1: And what I learned from him in that period of
- 14:17Speaker 1: time definitely is it has a lot to do with
- 14:19Speaker 1: me being alive, you know what I mean. He didn't
- 14:22Speaker 1: teach me a lot with his words, but observing the
- 14:25Speaker 1: way he moved, he strapped up. You know, he got
- 14:28Speaker 1: his he was with the bullshit right all of it.
- 14:30Speaker 1: He owned his club, he was moving he had vendor machines.
- 14:34Speaker 1: He was grinding. I remember I went to Alabama. My
- 14:38Speaker 1: pops takes me on the trip to Pensacola. We get
- 14:41Speaker 1: some fireworks. I think, you know, it's whatever. And I
- 14:45Speaker 1: had a trip with my dad. We go to the beach,
- 14:47Speaker 1: he meet up with some people. They put the fireworks
- 14:49Speaker 1: in the trunk. We draw it back and then I
- 14:51Speaker 1: can't use these specific fireworks, right, And then I got
- 14:56Speaker 1: the other fireworks and shit. And then I see my
- 14:58Speaker 1: pups was busting the bitches down and entering out all
- 15:01Speaker 1: of the fireworks, you know, and he and there cooking
- 15:04Speaker 1: and cleaning up and doing his thing. And so my
- 15:06Speaker 1: pops had you know, I went with my pops on
- 15:09Speaker 1: the on the pick up mission, and my pops was running,
- 15:12Speaker 1: he was doing him. And so it wasn't unusual for
- 15:14Speaker 1: me to see him cooking up in there and counting
- 15:17Speaker 1: his money and doing his thing, and you know, being
- 15:20Speaker 1: on ten tos, and how he communicated with his brothers,
- 15:22Speaker 1: how he communicated with his friends. And so he didn't
- 15:25Speaker 1: teach me a lot deliberately, but I saw a lot
- 15:29Speaker 1: that later on. You kept me alive. Yeah, So I'm
- 15:32Speaker 1: grateful to my father may rest in peace. And I
- 15:35Speaker 1: feel like he didn't know what the fuck to do
- 15:37Speaker 1: with the child. He didn't know what to do with
- 15:38Speaker 1: no baby. And you know, I feel that way with
- 15:41Speaker 1: my mother. My mother braised this the way she was raised,
- 15:45Speaker 1: and that included teaching us a lot encyclopedias, dictionaries, puzzles,
- 15:51Speaker 1: mind games. She had a lot of that type of
- 15:53Speaker 1: stuff in in psychological games you could play the strength
- 15:56Speaker 1: in your perspective. And but she wasn't too much that
- 16:02Speaker 1: I needed male leadership in my life. And once we
- 16:06Speaker 1: hit a certain age were that was it. You know,
- 16:08Speaker 1: back then sixteen you I'm running around doing me wasn't
- 16:12Speaker 1: no discipline at all, right, And so yeah, I didn't
- 16:16Speaker 1: have a lot of support.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Well I was going to ask you, like, you find
- 16:20Speaker 2: out you're going to prison for life? Yeah, as a kid, Yeah,
- 16:24Speaker 2: that's got to be like your whole entire soul just
- 16:27Speaker 2: gets snatched from your body.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Like not really, man, Like, how did I'm.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Saying, like, because you somehow turned that into like the
- 16:33Speaker 2: perseverance of like having like a semi successful, like i
- 16:38Speaker 2: mean very successful rap career while being in prison, which
- 16:43Speaker 2: is very I mean, yeah, like, like how do you
- 16:46Speaker 2: make that transition from being a kid to thinking maybe
- 16:49Speaker 2: your life is over, and then you know your music
- 16:54Speaker 2: career is just beginning in some sorts, you.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Know, Yeah, I think you hitting it right on the head, man.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I I think the thing that kept me from feeling
- 17:03Speaker 1: like my life was over that I lived for the music.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Hip hop became everything to me. They couldn't take that
- 17:09Speaker 1: I can write a dope ran, I can still be dope,
- 17:13Speaker 1: and so that mattered to me to just be dope.
- 17:15Speaker 1: And because I was just focused on that, I had
- 17:17Speaker 1: so much material that when these opportunities presented themselves, Like
- 17:21Speaker 1: the first thing I did was the twenty four deep
- 17:24Speaker 1: with brother Lynch and Lynch. I was calling Lynch from
- 17:29Speaker 1: juvenile hall and he was like, man, I got this song.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I want you to record your part, and he did
- 17:34Speaker 1: it on his answering machine. So I'm around the corner
- 17:36Speaker 1: at the pay I got the photies and the thank
- 17:38Speaker 1: I did that over the phone, and so that kind
- 17:41Speaker 1: of even while I'm facing the death penalty at the time,
- 17:45Speaker 1: they're in a fight. Am I being remanded to adult
- 17:48Speaker 1: court to be tried and or am I going to
- 17:50Speaker 1: juvenile court? I get remanded to adult court, then the
- 17:53Speaker 1: fight is death penalty, capital.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Punishment or indeterminate sentence.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Fight that beat the death penalty thing, and then now
- 18:02Speaker 1: it's okay, these are your charges and you get to
- 18:06Speaker 1: thirty one a life. I know that twenty five of
- 18:08Speaker 1: life is what I'm dealing with. I'm aware, like that's
- 18:11Speaker 1: my maximum outcome. And so even then, even being aware
- 18:15Speaker 1: of that, like I technically just survived that they would
- 18:18Speaker 1: have liked to have killed me if they could have
- 18:20Speaker 1: found me guilty and give me given me the death penalty,
- 18:23Speaker 1: they would have It's just the law and the judge's
- 18:27Speaker 1: interpretation of the law. He decided not to allow that
- 18:30Speaker 1: to occur because I was seventeen years old. But so
- 18:34Speaker 1: I technically am also feeling like I just beat death
- 18:38Speaker 1: in a way.
- 18:39Speaker 2: So it's like a small victory.
- 18:41Speaker 1: It was a small victory, and I'm not fully capable
- 18:44Speaker 1: of dealing with the horror this shit, right, you know,
- 18:48Speaker 1: missus Harris, and what happened in our community, how people
- 18:51Speaker 1: were responding to it, How I'm being celebrated on one
- 18:54Speaker 1: side for being g demonaged on another side for being evil, right,
- 18:59Speaker 1: you know what I mean, and hated by rivals who
- 19:01Speaker 1: feel like you know, they have to. They had to
- 19:04Speaker 1: deal with that. That's just what you do. It's retaliation
- 19:07Speaker 1: as a must. That's a part of the game. So
- 19:09Speaker 1: I got all of this as a seventeen year old
- 19:11Speaker 1: child that I got to deal with when I walk
- 19:13Speaker 1: out of my cell and how am I projecting myself?
- 19:15Speaker 1: So you have a mixture of shame, pride, ego, all
- 19:21Speaker 1: this stuff active at the same time, and want my
- 19:24Speaker 1: homeboys like, Okay. The safest place to go as a
- 19:27Speaker 1: child was deeper into the place that didn't feel like
- 19:31Speaker 1: I did nothing wrong, didn't feel like.
- 19:33Speaker 3: There was another It was what it was.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So it was a safe place to hang out for
- 19:37Speaker 1: a minute until I got old enough to start reconciling.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Brain development catching up and I had to start dealing
- 19:43Speaker 1: with ugly truths within myself, and I started bleeding into
- 19:47Speaker 1: my lyrics because that was the safest place for me
- 19:50Speaker 1: to go. I was always honest in in my lyrics
- 19:53Speaker 1: or for a while something.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Early on you like embraced, like you said the cybe
- 19:57Speaker 2: where you were like sell braided, I guess I did.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, being ax rated, Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 20:04Speaker 1: And Gordon Block crib ax rated from twenty fourth Street.
- 20:07Speaker 1: That was a badge of It was like a bulletproof
- 20:10Speaker 1: vest for me to put on to protect me from
- 20:12Speaker 1: even my own thoughts, my opinions, or other outside opinions
- 20:17Speaker 1: of me. I just stood on that to not allow
- 20:20Speaker 1: none of the ugly stuff to penetrate my spirit, and
- 20:23Speaker 1: I focused on working with Lynch on twenty four Deep
- 20:26Speaker 1: made me like, damn, maybe I'll can get some shit done.
- 20:29Speaker 1: And so I'm writing like a motherfucker. I transferred to
- 20:31Speaker 1: the county jail and I run into mac Dre, and
- 20:35Speaker 1: mac Dre and Kyrie had for years this man. I
- 20:37Speaker 1: think it was like somewhere in the window in ninety three,
- 20:41Speaker 1: ninety four. So mac Dre Sacramento is the hub for
- 20:46Speaker 1: federal crimes. So if you committed, if you got a
- 20:48Speaker 1: federal case, you're gonna get sent to the Sacramento County
- 20:51Speaker 1: Jail to go to court because they handle it. So
- 20:54Speaker 1: mac Dre Twenny.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Fed cases in like northern California. They would go to
- 20:57Speaker 2: jail and sack.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I believe not even just Northern California period. I mean
- 21:02Speaker 1: it's a capital too, right, Yeah, So like the unibomber
- 21:05Speaker 1: was housed in the Sacramento County Jail. Like, was my
- 21:08Speaker 1: neighbor going to going to court for his for his case?
- 21:11Speaker 1: You ever talked to him?
- 21:13Speaker 3: Talking to him was weird?
- 21:15Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 21:15Speaker 3: I said, I said, hello, you know I'm a dumb ass.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:18Speaker 2: So did he ever like break down his manifesto to you?
- 21:21Speaker 1: Like? No? No, I didn't get the top it up
- 21:23Speaker 1: with him like that. We was in four hunter poss.
- 21:25Speaker 2: How to interview that motherfucker out of it? Like, Yo,
- 21:27Speaker 2: so what's going on?
- 21:28Speaker 1: Bro?
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:28Speaker 1: Nowadays I definitely would have.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Wanted to know maybe we had had an offier podcast.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I reached out to our yell daddy and shit, he
- 21:36Speaker 1: was in his South in mind. But he was a
- 21:38Speaker 1: very meek dude, and he talked about fame, notoriety, what
- 21:43Speaker 1: they call not the rod. Judges used to come and
- 21:45Speaker 1: hang out at his door with their clerks and talk
- 21:48Speaker 1: to him.
- 21:49Speaker 3: And you know, that dude was allegedly brilliant, you know
- 21:51Speaker 3: what I mean?
- 21:52Speaker 2: No, he I mean, by all accounts, he was a
- 21:54Speaker 2: smart guy.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Yeah, he was a very you can be so smart
- 21:57Speaker 1: it could you could you get a little crazy? And
- 22:00Speaker 1: so he was a very smart motherfucker. And the judges,
- 22:04Speaker 1: all of them. They used to do tours and come
- 22:06Speaker 1: by and you know, they're look at myself, here's the
- 22:09Speaker 1: rapper X righted and they would go around a little
- 22:11Speaker 1: bit and it's the fucking unibomer.
- 22:13Speaker 3: I'll be looking out my door and.
- 22:14Speaker 1: It just be a pack of people sitting in front
- 22:16Speaker 1: of in front of itself. Yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Man, it's crazy anyway.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Mac Dre so Mac Dre ninety three, ninety four ish.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Uh, they have recorded the live from Presno County Jail
- 22:27Speaker 1: over the phone him and I believe Kyrie from Young
- 22:31Speaker 1: Black Brother. So that Young Black Brother at the time,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and I know he had done some stuff on mac
- 22:38Speaker 1: Mal's stuff too, and so he was like everybody knew
- 22:42Speaker 1: about twenty four Deep at the time. So it was like, yo,
- 22:44Speaker 1: he gave me the game. This is how we did it,
- 22:46Speaker 1: Like how did you do it? I was like, man,
- 22:48Speaker 1: I just recorded it on an answer machine. He was like, nah,
- 22:50Speaker 1: we did the phones and we ran the line into
- 22:55Speaker 1: the board and did it directly through that. And I
- 22:57Speaker 1: was like, damn. So I took that game and gave
- 22:59Speaker 1: it to say and then talked to John Bots from
- 23:02Speaker 1: Enharmonic Studios and Sack and uh, so they took a
- 23:06Speaker 1: phone apart, soldered the wires to a mic plug, plugged
- 23:10Speaker 1: it directly into the board. So when I called the phone,
- 23:13Speaker 1: it was going straight into the board. And then they
- 23:16Speaker 1: took another part of the phone apart, soldered the wires
- 23:18Speaker 1: and plugged it in, so the audio was going straight
- 23:21Speaker 1: into that so you could hear the beat on a
- 23:23Speaker 1: different phone.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Got it.
- 23:24Speaker 1: So I had to call a phone right here and
- 23:28Speaker 1: spit the rhyme.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Spitting here while listening to the beating the other.
- 23:30Speaker 1: One and listening to the beating the other one. And
- 23:33Speaker 1: that's how I recorded excessist.
- 23:35Speaker 2: What we're like. People who were also on the phone
- 23:39Speaker 2: like looking at you, like, yeah, this fool is fucking rapping,
- 23:42Speaker 2: Like nah.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Our County jail was separated, you know. The crips was
- 23:46Speaker 1: on the west side, the blood's on the east side.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I think at the time was in three hundred pod.
- 23:51Speaker 1: The pols are separated by a severity of crime at
- 23:54Speaker 1: the time. So if you child support tickets, you go
- 23:56Speaker 1: to one hundred pod. If you got a little bit
- 23:58Speaker 1: of violence but nobody has who stitches, you go to
- 24:01Speaker 1: two hundred pod. If you had if somebody somebody had
- 24:04Speaker 1: Suture Stitches, Dead Funerals, three hundred pod.
- 24:08Speaker 3: And so I'm in this pod and it's start.
- 24:10Speaker 1: I got the homies out here and I'm doing some
- 24:13Speaker 1: shit that people. I'm in Sacramento. I'm x rated in Sacramento,
- 24:17Speaker 1: deal recording a saw. So there's motherfucker's in the day
- 24:20Speaker 1: room rooting for this. Yeah, the white Boy's rooting for this.
- 24:23Speaker 1: The Mexicans is rooting for this, The Niggas is root
- 24:26Speaker 1: This is a victory for the criminals. We went and
- 24:30Speaker 1: the police is rooting for this. They didn't bump Psychoactive.
- 24:33Speaker 1: They done bumped twenty four deep. They don't bumped.
- 24:36Speaker 2: But you had cops who were like fucking with you,
- 24:39Speaker 2: like the fans.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm in Sacramento. Yeah, I'm
- 24:45Speaker 1: at home. Yeah, imagine they threw one of us in
- 24:49Speaker 1: the county to come on, man, I'm in.
- 24:50Speaker 2: The carrying the recording. Yeah, I'm doing the whole album
- 24:53Speaker 2: right now.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Like I ain't even got to tell them that because
- 24:56Speaker 1: they it's the wild Wild West in the tank. So
- 24:58Speaker 1: I'm in the tank doing me and and they can
- 25:00Speaker 1: hear it, but also can't legally stop it. So when
- 25:04Speaker 1: people were like why did y'all allow him to do it?
- 25:06Speaker 1: They like, he's not convicted of a crime. He has
- 25:08Speaker 1: the right to use the phone. We don't tell anybody
- 25:11Speaker 1: else not to use the phone. So if he commits
- 25:13Speaker 1: a crime on the phone, then we'll investigate that crime.
- 25:16Speaker 1: But in terms of rapping on the phone, it's not illegal.
- 25:19Speaker 1: It's not illegal for him to do that. So their
- 25:21Speaker 1: spokesperson is in the Sacramento be explaining to people why
- 25:25Speaker 1: they didn't stop it because they could, they weren't legally
- 25:28Speaker 1: able to stop it. I could use my phone time
- 25:30Speaker 1: to do whatever, and in there there wasn't a list
- 25:33Speaker 1: to sign up, so you could be on the phone
- 25:34Speaker 1: for seven hours if nobody cared, you know what I mean.
- 25:38Speaker 1: And nobody cared, nobody could care. That was when them
- 25:41Speaker 1: get your ass whooped over this. We were recording these
- 25:44Speaker 1: songs the homies is tripping and it ain't wasn't the
- 25:46Speaker 1: only ones it was at victory for the criminals.
- 25:49Speaker 2: How many projects did you drop that you recorded in
- 25:52Speaker 2: while while incarcerated, just so people have an.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Idea, Oh man, so exorcists and we do six hundred
- 26:01Speaker 1: and forty thousand copies of that, you know what I mean?
- 26:05Speaker 1: Like in like maybe six months Billboard SpLD Wow, incarcerated
- 26:09Speaker 1: God while incarcerated without a music video, without a music video,
- 26:13Speaker 1: want to get high your certified classic mac.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Right back in the day, it was like the video
- 26:18Speaker 2: was very important.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Yeah, no music videos and still gold. Anyway, six months
- 26:22Speaker 1: Playboy Magazine, all that shit, And so I did Exorcists.
- 26:27Speaker 3: I go to the pen.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I remember, I think McGinnis, I think the spokesperson for
- 26:31Speaker 1: the prison system, they were asking them before I got there,
- 26:35Speaker 1: like X Rated just recorded Extorsists in the Sacramento County
- 26:39Speaker 1: jail and he's on his way to you. He's been convicted.
- 26:42Speaker 1: How were you guys planning to stop him from recording
- 26:45Speaker 1: music over the phone? And they had all these reasons,
- 26:47Speaker 1: and they had the beats to beat. They put all
- 26:50Speaker 1: this shit on the phones, and dude, you are there,
- 26:52Speaker 1: are on the call with the blah blah blah blah blah,
- 26:55Speaker 1: so that I wouldn't be able to successfully do it.
- 26:58Speaker 1: And so I got there and I was able to
- 27:01Speaker 1: get some more you know, get some equipment in there,
- 27:03Speaker 1: spend money again. Cops are fans, the laundry workers are fans,
- 27:07Speaker 1: the kitchen workers are fans. I got allies in this bitch. Yo.
- 27:11Speaker 1: The hummy been here for twenty years, this nigga that
- 27:13Speaker 1: knocked this motherfucker over here to work in the library.
- 27:16Speaker 1: You know what I mean. I'm putting a whole studio
- 27:18Speaker 1: on the yard if I want to, I'm doing whatever
- 27:20Speaker 1: I want to do. I didn't know that I was
- 27:21Speaker 1: going to be like that, but I aged into it
- 27:24Speaker 1: and lived into it. And so here comes Unforgiven. So
- 27:26Speaker 1: you got extracists, unforgiven, nefarious, and think about the period
- 27:31Speaker 1: of time ninety six I dropped Exorcists, Run it up,
- 27:34Speaker 1: I take up it takes I think ninety seven, ninety eight,
- 27:37Speaker 1: Me and boat work until my casket drops. I'm number
- 27:40Speaker 1: three on Billboard, behind MARIOH. Carrey and Brian McKnight. Boom,
- 27:43Speaker 1: Here Comes Unforgiving. I'm fourteen on the heat Seekers chart Billboard.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Boom.
- 27:49Speaker 1: That's nineteen ninety nine, maybe eleventh ninety nine. February Boom,
- 27:54Speaker 1: I'm back on Billboard charts with the Nefarious album, and.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Then November Boom.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I'm back on bill Board charts, one hundred thousand copies
- 28:01Speaker 1: first week on Vengeance's Mind Boom. February I'm back with
- 28:05Speaker 1: Initiation I'm back up on the Billboard charts again, I'm
- 28:09Speaker 1: move and and all that's happening while I was incarcerated.
- 28:13Speaker 2: So I think it's so you had like a like
- 28:14Speaker 2: you had like a like a like a studio ish setup.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, repeated, like would you have? I had all
- 28:21Speaker 1: kind of shit. I started off with just a mini dishrecorder.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Then I would try and get something to have multiple
- 28:26Speaker 1: tracks on it. Eventually, and then I started finding out
- 28:29Speaker 1: about apps, and so I started getting phones and downloading
- 28:33Speaker 1: apps that gave me four tracks and shit, and plugging
- 28:36Speaker 1: in and recording on little laugh mics and shit like that,
- 28:40Speaker 1: you know what I mean, talk show microphones and sending
- 28:42Speaker 1: that shit home and letting them clean it up.
- 28:44Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Yeah, man, I had. I had adapt before I had
- 28:48Speaker 1: a mini disrecorder or an R seven.
- 28:50Speaker 2: And they didn't care that you had all that in yourself.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Hell yeah, they cared. But the problem isn't that contraband.
- 28:56Speaker 1: It is contraband. But this is the problem if you
- 28:59Speaker 1: think about and I had a lot of issues because
- 29:02Speaker 1: of this, But if you look at the rules, the
- 29:05Speaker 1: CCR title fifteen and here comes X rated in nineteen
- 29:09Speaker 1: ninety six, who the fuck recorded a song and the
- 29:12Speaker 1: cell before right, whoever had a cell phone? And they
- 29:15Speaker 1: sell before right, So there's no rule against this shit.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Because it's almost like new technology.
- 29:22Speaker 3: It doesn't exist.
- 29:23Speaker 1: That's like that's making a point of reference. Yeah, these
- 29:26Speaker 1: are the rules related to UFOs and how they have
- 29:28Speaker 1: to fly. It's like where are they, you know what
- 29:30Speaker 1: I mean? Where we're gonna make a rule for some
- 29:32Speaker 1: shit that we don't even know if it exists or not.
- 29:35Speaker 1: So I'm getting caught. The niggas is telling and speculating,
- 29:38Speaker 1: you know what I mean. If you a rapper on
- 29:40Speaker 1: the yard, you don't want to be jay z right,
- 29:42Speaker 1: you don't want to be Tupac, you want to be
- 29:44Speaker 1: x rated, you want to I'm the one who's done it,
- 29:46Speaker 1: so they look, I said a standard, and so people
- 29:49Speaker 1: was talking about me a lot. So my cell get hit,
- 29:51Speaker 1: I get busted with a phone, I get busted with
- 29:53Speaker 1: a recorder that the cop thinks he got him. You
- 29:57Speaker 1: know I had I remember one time I had a
- 29:59Speaker 1: lighter in mysel. Well, the cop finds the lighter throws
- 30:02Speaker 1: that away with all the garbage. He wrote it on
- 30:05Speaker 1: the slip of stuff though that he took from me,
- 30:07Speaker 1: but he threw it away. The homies now everybody know,
- 30:10Speaker 1: they get the trash is gone. The police then win
- 30:13Speaker 1: did what they had to do. He looks up the
- 30:16Speaker 1: rules and tries to figure out what to write me
- 30:19Speaker 1: up for in three thousand and six c contraband possession.
- 30:23Speaker 1: The contra band was all he could come up with,
- 30:25Speaker 1: which was like two weeks loss of yard. Just boys,
- 30:30Speaker 1: boys being bad boys. Just slap on the wrist and
- 30:33Speaker 1: send me back to the yard. But when they caught me,
- 30:36Speaker 1: they thought they had me. They thought we're gonna put
- 30:38Speaker 1: him under the prison. This is a shoe turn. We
- 30:40Speaker 1: got him and it was a three tag. I would
- 30:43Speaker 1: have got in more trouble if he wrote me up
- 30:45Speaker 1: for that lighter. That lighter was a three year shoe term.
- 30:48Speaker 1: He could have sent me to Corkoran. He could have
- 30:50Speaker 1: sent me the Pelican based shoe if he wrote me
- 30:52Speaker 1: up for that lighter, because it's a caustic substance and
- 30:55Speaker 1: explosive device according to that rug. Yeah, so he threw
- 30:59Speaker 1: away the way and wrote me up for some shit
- 31:02Speaker 1: that didn't exist, and just they were mad. They were
- 31:05Speaker 1: big mad, And so I get hit with the son
- 31:07Speaker 1: of Sam lawsuit me O J. Charles Manson. They hit
- 31:13Speaker 1: us all with the Son of Sam lawsuit?
- 31:15Speaker 2: What is that?
- 31:15Speaker 1: Just?
- 31:16Speaker 2: People don't know.
- 31:16Speaker 1: So the Sam lawsuit is to prevent an inmate from
- 31:20Speaker 1: profiting from the notoriety they received as a result of
- 31:24Speaker 1: their crime. I think it started in New York with
- 31:26Speaker 1: the Son of Sam, who I guess was getting paid
- 31:29Speaker 1: to do interviews people writing books.
- 31:32Speaker 2: He was.
- 31:32Speaker 1: He became a millionaire as a results.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I just saw Whack One was talking about that with
- 31:36Speaker 2: the KFD thing, because I think he was trying to
- 31:38Speaker 2: help get keffd out and they were trying to bring
- 31:41Speaker 2: the Son of Sam thing up. And he's like, well,
- 31:42Speaker 2: they haven't convicted him yet, so technically, you know, he's
- 31:44Speaker 2: not guilty of anything.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Yeah, California struck it down, but I don't know if
- 31:49Speaker 1: KEFD if that'll apply to him. They arrested him in Nevada,
- 31:53Speaker 1: so I'm not sure what the laws are. But the
- 31:54Speaker 1: California Supreme Court struck it down, and so you could
- 31:57Speaker 1: so you were safe. So now you can ain't take
- 32:00Speaker 1: my money. There's no rule against what I'm doing. And
- 32:03Speaker 1: then even as they're trying to figure out how to
- 32:06Speaker 1: implement those rules takes two or three years years while
- 32:09Speaker 1: you're running it. They got to go through the Assembly bill.
- 32:12Speaker 1: It got to be agreed we do the Senate Congress
- 32:15Speaker 1: signed by a governor in order to change these rules.
- 32:18Speaker 1: So I got this window where from nineteen ninety six
- 32:21Speaker 1: to two thousand and two, I'm just whipping the asses
- 32:24Speaker 1: and it ain't nothing they could do to stop it,
- 32:27Speaker 1: and so I did. I ended up having a lot
- 32:29Speaker 1: of angry police man. They just just been I couldn't
- 32:32Speaker 1: talk about that shit while I was on parole, but
- 32:34Speaker 1: like I went through it, and they were trying to
- 32:36Speaker 1: figure out, you know, throw me in a dungeon. Man,
- 32:40Speaker 1: I'm ready with a hunter songs. So I get a
- 32:42Speaker 1: hold of a recording. I'm dropping a hundred. I'm dropping
- 32:45Speaker 1: a hundred in a weekend. Get smuggling them bitches out
- 32:48Speaker 1: come and get me. Put me in the hole. I
- 32:49Speaker 1: don't give a fuck.
- 32:50Speaker 2: I'm sure. Once the iPhone gets introduced to the changed everything.
- 32:55Speaker 1: It did change everything. It sped me up. But as
- 32:58Speaker 1: the technology grew, so did my awareness of the potential
- 33:02Speaker 1: that I was going home. So I wasn't always sure
- 33:06Speaker 1: about that, and it's there's stages now I know the
- 33:09Speaker 1: stages of development of my understanding. First it started with hopelessness,
- 33:15Speaker 1: and then it turned into ah, you know, I might
- 33:18Speaker 1: not be here forever for the rest of my life.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Maybe I won't. I don't know. You see laws, you
- 33:22Speaker 1: hear everybody was always somebody coming man, this new this
- 33:26Speaker 1: piece of legislation gonna change your life, asks I'm like whatever,
- 33:30Speaker 1: man R all right? And so my big homie Dooney
- 33:33Speaker 1: actually was one of the ones where he was at
- 33:36Speaker 1: San Quentin. He got a murder with another of my OG's,
- 33:40Speaker 1: the two founders but the founder of twenty four Street
- 33:44Speaker 1: Garden Block and Doney as a founder of twenty nine
- 33:46Speaker 1: Street Garden Block, and they caught a case. Dooney did
- 33:50Speaker 1: gets fifty years. He ended up doing thirty one. And
- 33:53Speaker 1: in the course of that you got these two men,
- 33:55Speaker 1: one who taught me survival, how this is how you fight,
- 33:59Speaker 1: this how you make a knife. He taught me that
- 34:01Speaker 1: and later was able to teach me this is take
- 34:04Speaker 1: your ass on. But Dooney was more educated on a
- 34:09Speaker 1: on a from the perspective of hope faster than we were,
- 34:13Speaker 1: because he got to do his time, some of his
- 34:15Speaker 1: time at Saying Quentin, where they had all these programs
- 34:18Speaker 1: and where rehabilitation was at the forefront. It was the
- 34:22Speaker 1: darling of CDCR. Damn there still is. And so he
- 34:26Speaker 1: was one of the ones who started saying, now you
- 34:28Speaker 1: take your ass to school.
- 34:29Speaker 3: You know, I got my phone. It hit me on Facebook.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I seeing pictures of what he's doing on the yard,
- 34:35Speaker 1: and it just made me feel like, damn, man, it
- 34:37Speaker 1: ain't got to just be like this fucked up ass
- 34:40Speaker 1: one eighty design I'm at or this two seventy yard,
- 34:43Speaker 1: like it's a different you get different ways to do
- 34:45Speaker 1: your time. And so he gave me permission. Really I
- 34:49Speaker 1: needed it from somebody that I respected as against it
- 34:52Speaker 1: to tech myas to anger management class, tech MIAs in there.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I got my ged go to school.
- 34:57Speaker 2: All that looks good too. I'm sure when they.
- 35:00Speaker 1: And that was his point. But you know, I didn't
- 35:02Speaker 1: really have that much hope in that. And so I
- 35:05Speaker 1: remember Miller versus Alabama went to the Supreme Court, and
- 35:11Speaker 1: Miller versus Alabama was a case about a juvenile in
- 35:16Speaker 1: Alabama who was sentenced to the death penalty, and the
- 35:20Speaker 1: argument was.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Is it a violation of.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Our Eighth Amendment right against cruel and unusual punishment to
- 35:31Speaker 1: sentence a juvenile to death or even to sentence sentence
- 35:35Speaker 1: them to life in prison without an opportunity for them
- 35:39Speaker 1: to grow, and that neuroscience had demonstrated that at the
- 35:44Speaker 1: age of twenty five we start seeing the results of
- 35:47Speaker 1: maturation and development, and that these children should be allowed
- 35:52Speaker 1: to have an opportunity to prove that they grew up
- 35:55Speaker 1: and that they got a different perspective and maybe they're
- 35:57Speaker 1: a completely different person. So the Supreme Court rule, they
- 36:02Speaker 1: got rid of it death sentences for juveniles, but in
- 36:07Speaker 1: their ruling they stated essentially, if a case reached them
- 36:12Speaker 1: about life in prison for juveniles, they likely rule in
- 36:15Speaker 1: favor for that as well. Yeah, and this is important
- 36:18Speaker 1: when people don't understand why voting is important. The Supreme
- 36:25Speaker 1: Court we had at the time was impacted by Clinton
- 36:29Speaker 1: and then impacted by Bush, and then impacted by Obama.
- 36:34Speaker 1: So the people making those decisions, you know, we end
- 36:37Speaker 1: up Trump puts three people on the Supreme Court, and
- 36:41Speaker 1: there goes Roll versus Way, there goes.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Yeah, the Supreme Court. I always tell people, like, if
- 36:46Speaker 2: you could just remove all of the you know, antics
- 36:50Speaker 2: about politicians and just wherever you feel you're aligned with
- 36:53Speaker 2: the Supreme courts. What matters the most, Probably.
- 36:55Speaker 1: It really is, and the presidency matters because they're gonna
- 36:59Speaker 1: they're gonna have points going to appoint them, and they're
- 37:01Speaker 1: gonna color that Supreme Court the way they want to. Sure,
- 37:03Speaker 1: And it's said there's an argument that if today's Supreme
- 37:06Speaker 1: Court was the Supreme Court ruling on Miller versus Alabama,
- 37:10Speaker 1: I'll still be I literally would still be in prison
- 37:13Speaker 1: today's Supreme Court was ruling.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Well, that's why I think a lot of people were
- 37:17Speaker 2: saying RBG before she passed away, she like she should
- 37:20Speaker 2: have retired while Obama was in because then he could
- 37:23Speaker 2: have you know. But she stayed in and then obviously
- 37:26Speaker 2: was replaced with a more conservative judge.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Yep.
- 37:29Speaker 3: I think Trump might have got to put two or
- 37:30Speaker 3: three on there.
- 37:32Speaker 1: He did.
- 37:33Speaker 2: I think I think it was at least it was
- 37:35Speaker 2: at least two.
- 37:35Speaker 1: At least might have been three. Yeah, it was at
- 37:37Speaker 1: least two, we know for sure. And it changed the dynamics.
- 37:40Speaker 1: So the Supreme Court did make that statement. So when
- 37:44Speaker 1: they said that and in in their ruling, the states
- 37:49Speaker 1: started freaking out because they're like, there will a case
- 37:53Speaker 1: is going to get up there for sure cases on
- 37:55Speaker 1: the way up there, and people start filing cases. Of course,
- 37:58Speaker 1: it makes sure so a case is on this way
- 38:01Speaker 1: up there. The courts indicated that they're definitely going to
- 38:04Speaker 1: rule in favor of it if it makes it up there,
- 38:07Speaker 1: and if they do, it'll be like how we saw
- 38:09Speaker 1: the gay marriage. The states had control of that, but
- 38:12Speaker 1: when the Supreme Court said this is legal everywhere, it
- 38:15Speaker 1: was legal everywhere. That once they make a ruling, that's
- 38:18Speaker 1: the law of the United States of America. The decision
- 38:21Speaker 1: individual decisions is out. It would have been the same
- 38:24Speaker 1: thing with the decision versus the juveniles with life. Now,
- 38:30Speaker 1: all these states would have to let these people out
- 38:33Speaker 1: and figure out what to do with them and have
- 38:35Speaker 1: no mechanism in place to control it because it was
- 38:37Speaker 1: being dictated to them by the federal government. So as
- 38:40Speaker 1: a result, they proposed Senate Bill to sixty. Senator Lonnie Hancock,
- 38:46Speaker 1: a Democrat out of northern California, proposed that there's be
- 38:52Speaker 1: a process called the Youth Offender Law that allowed the juvenile.
- 38:57Speaker 3: To go to board.
- 38:58Speaker 1: So if you were between the ages of if you
- 39:01Speaker 1: were younger than eighteen, you would have an opportunity to
- 39:04Speaker 1: go to board and be examined to find out if
- 39:08Speaker 1: you were worthy of being released from prison, if you were,
- 39:11Speaker 1: if you did not posing a reasonable risk for violent
- 39:13Speaker 1: recidivism in the community.
- 39:15Speaker 2: So that's where all of the things that you had
- 39:17Speaker 2: did helped you out. Gd Anger Management.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Owning my home. Yeah, like I was already ready to
- 39:24Speaker 1: go home, and so they send doctor Lear to me.
- 39:27Speaker 1: And now you got my big homie hit me like yo,
- 39:30Speaker 1: the chop chop and the ogs and the law library.
- 39:34Speaker 1: This is big news on the York for sure. So
- 39:36Speaker 1: I'm working out in the sale mine of my business
- 39:38Speaker 1: football game on and I remember I get called out
- 39:44Speaker 1: to see it. So they like, hey, the psychologist is
- 39:46Speaker 1: here to see you. And so typically, you know, I
- 39:49Speaker 1: had signed up for these programs, so I would go
- 39:51Speaker 1: to have a sit down with a psychologist probably once
- 39:54Speaker 1: every two weeks or something like that. At least once
- 39:57Speaker 1: a month, but that's normal. The staff to to the yard.
- 40:01Speaker 1: So I keep dressed because I want to get a
- 40:03Speaker 1: homie some time to himself. Let him have to sell
- 40:05Speaker 1: for a minute. So I'm like, fuck it, I'm gonna
- 40:07Speaker 1: go holler at this psychologist. Manager yourself. I'll be back
- 40:09Speaker 1: because you know we locked down all that, you up
- 40:13Speaker 1: around each other, saw me so a lot and so boom. Yeah, yeah,
- 40:18Speaker 1: that's pretty much the green light under your businessman whatever.
- 40:21Speaker 2: I'll be back.
- 40:22Speaker 1: And so I go over there to the program office
- 40:24Speaker 1: and they send me to the bad news place.
- 40:27Speaker 3: You know do you usually go over there?
- 40:28Speaker 1: It's your mama died, you know, your daddy died, and
- 40:31Speaker 1: the kid is sick. It's the bad news building. So
- 40:34Speaker 1: I'm like, what the fuck? And uh. I walk in
- 40:38Speaker 1: the room and it's just older gentleman sitting there by himself,
- 40:43Speaker 1: dwarfed by the table, and I sit on the other
- 40:46Speaker 1: side of him, and he introduces himself as doctor Lear
- 40:49Speaker 1: and he says he's a forensic psychologist from the Border
- 40:51Speaker 1: prison hearings. And uh. He asked me if I was
- 40:55Speaker 1: willing to have a conversation with him, and I'm like yeah,
- 40:58Speaker 1: And I'm two hundred and forty five pounds with a
- 41:01Speaker 1: four percent body fat benching four h five you know what,
- 41:05Speaker 1: I'm sweating. I just got through doing berbees. So I'm
- 41:08Speaker 1: sitting here looking at him and he's like he takes
- 41:11Speaker 1: me through my entire at my whole life, and he's
- 41:15Speaker 1: like a fine tooth comb. There's no plan with doctor Leir.
- 41:19Speaker 1: He's seen it all, he's heard it all, and he
- 41:22Speaker 1: is here to decide on his own judgment if you're
- 41:26Speaker 1: a sociopathic monster that needs to state right where you
- 41:29Speaker 1: are or if you're going to go home. Lord, if
- 41:31Speaker 1: you're going to go home. They had a lot to do.
- 41:33Speaker 1: If he said I think this person needs further development,
- 41:36Speaker 1: you're sitting there until he says, I think you did it.
- 41:40Speaker 1: And so he talked about immutable factors, childhood issues, things
- 41:45Speaker 1: you can't control that create who you become. He very
- 41:49Speaker 1: much explained his understanding of how I ended up being
- 41:52Speaker 1: his seventeen year old child in the circumstances that I
- 41:55Speaker 1: was in, and there's no argument about that. It's do
- 41:58Speaker 1: you understand it? Found guilty by the jury or peers.
- 42:02Speaker 1: We're not retrying your case. This is factual to them legally.
- 42:06Speaker 1: That's all there is.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Do you understand how you ended up?
- 42:09Speaker 1: You understand how you got there, and have you implemented
- 42:12Speaker 1: measures that you can take to prevent you from being
- 42:15Speaker 1: in that circumstance again? Period? And then you have a
- 42:18Speaker 1: psychopathy examine. It essentially is a psychopathy examination, and you
- 42:23Speaker 1: have to score in the twenty fifth percentile or under,
- 42:27Speaker 1: or they're going to tell the parole board that you're
- 42:30Speaker 1: a threat to the safety of others in society if
- 42:33Speaker 1: they were to release you, which is what they did
- 42:34Speaker 1: to Manton every time he went to board one hundred
- 42:37Speaker 1: percent of the time. And so doctor Lear told me, Man,
- 42:41Speaker 1: he said, well, at the end, when he had made
- 42:43Speaker 1: up his mind about what he thought about me, he
- 42:45Speaker 1: kind of just sat back and said, mister Brown, we're
- 42:47Speaker 1: trying to let you go home, and I think you
- 42:49Speaker 1: changed your life and you didn't care who did it, well,
- 42:52Speaker 1: who knew you did it. It didn't matter to you.
- 42:54Speaker 1: But it's time for you to care now that people know.
- 42:57Speaker 1: I have my home, I own my home, I got
- 43:02Speaker 1: my business set up, I've done anger management, I got
- 43:05Speaker 1: my GED I'm enrolled in an AA program for for
- 43:10Speaker 1: college credits. I'm attending arcotics Anonymous. At that point, I'm
- 43:14Speaker 1: doing all kind of shit.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Did you end up picking up like a drug habit
- 43:16Speaker 2: while in prison? I didn't, I think, because I know
- 43:20Speaker 2: a lot of people do, because it's like you ain't
- 43:21Speaker 2: got shit to do, like the shit get pats around like.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know us culturally, But it's fround the
- 43:27Speaker 1: plan to do certain hard drugs culturally from the era
- 43:30Speaker 1: that I come from.
- 43:31Speaker 2: For sure.
- 43:31Speaker 1: You know, I know we got popular to sniff this
- 43:33Speaker 1: or sniff that.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Everybody's sniffing shit these days. Yeah, yeah, all the rappers
- 43:39Speaker 2: are high on real drugs.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Yeah it's too late for me, man. So yeah, I was.
- 43:46Speaker 1: I attended those things because I have a lifestyle addiction,
- 43:50Speaker 1: not necessarily a drug addiction. So if I did want
- 43:52Speaker 1: to sniff something, which I've sniffed something before, if I
- 43:55Speaker 1: wanted to sniff something, if I wanted to now I'm sniffing.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Now I'm now I'm calling people because one time too many,
- 44:04Speaker 1: I'm I'm tripping.
- 44:05Speaker 3: I got little triggers active.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Your fuse get shorter if my few and next thing
- 44:10Speaker 1: you know, I'm I'm sagging. I'm moving a certain kind
- 44:13Speaker 1: of way because I have a lifestyle addition, and that
- 44:16Speaker 1: that kind of alcohol comes with that. Womanizing comes with that,
- 44:20Speaker 1: Pistol packing comes with that, Get sniffing something comes with that.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Violence comes with that, And so I have to be.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Conscious of how to protect my lifestyle from relapse a
- 44:30Speaker 1: lifestyle real shit.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I would say, like if you ever have like any
- 44:33Speaker 2: addition to anything, you could kind of apply the NA
- 44:37Speaker 2: or AA shit to like any sort of advice you
- 44:40Speaker 2: might have.
- 44:41Speaker 3: At least the process.
- 44:43Speaker 1: And that's why I like a NA more than AA,
- 44:45Speaker 1: because it was more philosophical than religious. Right, it's very
- 44:49Speaker 1: very religious and the piece and blessings to anybody that
- 44:52Speaker 1: needed that way, But I didn't. I didn't require that,
- 44:55Speaker 1: and it turned me off, and so I was like,
- 44:58Speaker 1: now i'mies, Like, no, no, Now I go there. They
- 45:00Speaker 1: trust me, and it was a completely different experience. And
- 45:02Speaker 1: then we had criminals and gang members anonymous. It was
- 45:05Speaker 1: a lot of different groups available to me in that
- 45:08Speaker 1: environment that I started attending. And uh, once I was like,
- 45:11Speaker 1: you know, I had done my time as a gang
- 45:13Speaker 1: member who went to prison as a rapper, right, and
- 45:17Speaker 1: then made a shitload of money and got famous more
- 45:20Speaker 1: famous while I was doing my time.
- 45:23Speaker 2: So I had the I mean, it was a part
- 45:25Speaker 2: of like your fucking appeal, Like, Yo, there's this dude
- 45:29Speaker 2: dropping albums in fucking prison. This shit is crazy.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it was. It was a part of the magic.
- 45:35Speaker 1: And so I was anti administration and anti cop because
- 45:39Speaker 1: I was operating as a criminal and as a game Reber,
- 45:42Speaker 1: not no famous person or not no fucking celebrity, right,
- 45:45Speaker 1: so I get I get classified. I got a letter
- 45:49Speaker 1: from Monster Cody that they kept for like two months.
- 45:52Speaker 3: They finally brought it to me. It was a tour up.
- 45:54Speaker 1: They had tried to code it and shit, and I
- 45:58Speaker 1: got flagged for receiving that letter.
- 46:00Speaker 3: And then I got a letter from Tuki.
- 46:02Speaker 1: So like when we dropped Deadly Game, they wanted to
- 46:05Speaker 1: know man who wrote that? Whose spirit did that come from?
- 46:09Speaker 1: So Wendy Day, Davy d Monster Cody, Tuki. They wanted
- 46:13Speaker 1: to know what made me write that song. And then
- 46:16Speaker 1: you got missaying to pe Land of the Loss. I
- 46:18Speaker 1: had kind of started getting on the government's ass a
- 46:21Speaker 1: little bit, you know. I started trying to talk about,
- 46:23Speaker 1: you know, three strikes in your route. Motherfucker's getting twenty
- 46:26Speaker 1: five of life is still in a slice of pizza,
- 46:28Speaker 1: Like this happened to this nigga the next door to me.
- 46:31Speaker 1: And so I'm starting to take these stances in my music.
- 46:35Speaker 1: And so I got validated as a gang member. And
- 46:38Speaker 1: then they made me high notoriety public interest case, and
- 46:41Speaker 1: they made me a being a high notoriety public interest cases.
- 46:45Speaker 1: The only it's what they give you as a celebrity, right,
- 46:49Speaker 1: so the high notoriety is what they'll give like Charles
- 46:52Speaker 1: Manson and a public interest case, Scott Peterson, Tuki a
- 46:57Speaker 1: monster Cody. It's only some of us that they did
- 46:59Speaker 1: that too. And so once they hit me with that
- 47:02Speaker 1: that particular label, I think the La Times started calling
- 47:06Speaker 1: the institution. You MTV start calling the institution coming in
- 47:11Speaker 1: with cameras, news crewis and shit on the yard in
- 47:14Speaker 1: the day room like this in the day room of
- 47:18Speaker 1: the prison. Crazy and so it's like, yeah, it's just
- 47:21Speaker 1: some celebrity shit. And so it was uh Loo Menendez
- 47:25Speaker 1: getting with Loo Menendez. He was one of the first
- 47:27Speaker 1: people to start telling me you using your You're you're
- 47:32Speaker 1: allowing yourself to be defined by other people because you're
- 47:35Speaker 1: not utilizing your celebrities.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Is that one of the Menendez brothers?
- 47:38Speaker 3: It is?
- 47:39Speaker 2: So you were you linked up with one of them
- 47:41Speaker 2: or both of them both.
- 47:42Speaker 1: I'm the Melenindez brother, as they say, I'm a black
- 47:45Speaker 1: Menindez brother. Like both Lol and Eric are two of
- 47:48Speaker 1: my favorite human beings on the place.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Did they tell you where? Did they ever like tell
- 47:51Speaker 2: you what really went down?
- 47:53Speaker 1: You know what. It's not appropriate to digging nobody business
- 47:56Speaker 1: like that, right, But.
- 47:57Speaker 2: I wondered if, like you know, I'm not saying you
- 47:58Speaker 2: got to share it, but like, like you guys, did
- 48:00Speaker 2: you guys ever talk about.
- 48:01Speaker 1: I have significant insight about everything, Like I was their
- 48:04Speaker 1: first time being put together on the yard, Like I
- 48:06Speaker 1: was the only one they allowed in the room, you
- 48:09Speaker 1: know what I mean where they had got their first
- 48:11Speaker 1: conversation after not seeing each other since they were sentenced.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Yeah, how long do they keep them apart?
- 48:16Speaker 1: It's like twenty something years? Crazy? Yeah? Yeah we were Yeah,
- 48:21Speaker 1: me and Love were there and Eric Eric got moved
- 48:24Speaker 1: to us. Or me and Eric were there and Love
- 48:27Speaker 1: got moved up.
- 48:27Speaker 2: You still write them or keeping communication with absolutely?
- 48:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm right now. I'm working.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Strange Music is working to uh I think you on
- 48:34Speaker 1: a email, Richie. They're working to get me back into
- 48:37Speaker 1: the facility that I parole from down at RJ. Donovan.
- 48:41Speaker 1: It's from now. It's like how San Quentin is. That's
- 48:43Speaker 1: what they're doing down there. And I'm going to go
- 48:46Speaker 1: back in and do a concert, make a donation. So
- 48:49Speaker 1: if you got some money for me, man, I need
- 48:51Speaker 1: your money so I could give it to the fellas
- 48:54Speaker 1: for this program. But uh, we're gonna go in there
- 48:56Speaker 1: and me and Tech nine Travis Sogwyn and go to
- 48:59Speaker 1: the facility, do a concert, talk to the boys about
- 49:02Speaker 1: this is how far I came. You know, Scott Buttneck
- 49:05Speaker 1: has programs there, the anti recidivism Coalition, the beautification program
- 49:10Speaker 1: that they have, right and so we're gonna raise money
- 49:13Speaker 1: for them. See if I can get them twenty thirty bands.
- 49:15Speaker 1: If I could beat that, that's awesome. But twenty thirty
- 49:17Speaker 1: bands real quick, that make a big difference in that environment.
- 49:20Speaker 1: But also to walk teching Travis with the camera rolling
- 49:24Speaker 1: in my cell that I left this cell to come
- 49:27Speaker 1: free and as a result of that, I'm sitting here.
- 49:29Speaker 1: So yeah, you know, we are working with Lyle and
- 49:32Speaker 1: Eric to be able to pull that off. There their
- 49:35Speaker 1: spearheading that program.
- 49:37Speaker 2: And then you guys connected initially because you guys are
- 49:40Speaker 2: both high profile quote celebrity cases.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that's kind of what happened. Like Lyle was on
- 49:46Speaker 1: the on the yard we were playing football. Somebody elbowed
- 49:49Speaker 1: him and I didn't like it, you know, they because
- 49:52Speaker 1: it was the first time I ever saw somebody hit
- 49:55Speaker 1: the yard like when I was with bo I still
- 49:58Speaker 1: was operating on some gangster shit and both was just
- 50:00Speaker 1: moving two guard block cribs, moving around the yard. We
- 50:03Speaker 1: didn't give a fuck about we rappers, you know. And
- 50:06Speaker 1: then we had a circumstance where like sug Knight, but
- 50:10Speaker 1: Lyle was the first person I got to see and
- 50:13Speaker 1: listen to how people perceived the famous person. And it
- 50:17Speaker 1: was like, damn, is that how you niggas talk about me?
- 50:20Speaker 1: Is you niggas talk about me like that? You know
- 50:22Speaker 1: what I mean? So I felt protective of him because
- 50:25Speaker 1: it was like selfishly protective of me, Like fuck that.
- 50:28Speaker 1: And so he they he was playing on the line
- 50:31Speaker 1: and he you know, he had hard and he works out.
- 50:34Speaker 1: He's strong.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Motherfucker.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Elbowed him in his lip, and I just was like,
- 50:38Speaker 1: Nigga the next motherfucker that tries to hurt somebody on purpose,
- 50:42Speaker 1: as opposed to just football boss up, it's up, it's
- 50:45Speaker 1: it's man and the whole team. Yeah, Nigga bother with
- 50:48Speaker 1: everybody agreed and and he got to do his thing,
- 50:51Speaker 1: you know. And he ain't to say he needed me
- 50:53Speaker 1: to do that for him, but somebody needed to say something.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Somebody had to fucking say something like Man, so you were.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Like kind of like protecting them loky, I mean high key.
- 51:02Speaker 1: I stood up for him. Lyle could protect itself. He's
- 51:06Speaker 1: a sturdy man. You know, he's a good dude. Lyle
- 51:08Speaker 1: could protect itself. But what was happening, you know, he
- 51:11Speaker 1: was like it was being hey, like he was being hazed,
- 51:14Speaker 1: and he was tolerating it because you know, he wanted to.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Prove ft shit. Yeah yeah, And.
- 51:18Speaker 1: I just like man could bus his lip, Like man,
- 51:21Speaker 1: the next motherfucker to do something that I think is intentional,
- 51:23Speaker 1: We're gonna get their ass whipped.
- 51:25Speaker 2: So because that's the thing is like when we always
- 51:27Speaker 2: hear so much about like the politics of the California
- 51:30Speaker 2: prison system, right, but if like someone like the Menendez
- 51:33Speaker 2: brothers goes in, do they like who do they fall
- 51:35Speaker 2: in line with? Or are they just separate from everybody
- 51:37Speaker 2: because of their status of that?
- 51:39Speaker 1: So that goes back to the point I was making
- 51:42Speaker 1: about the difference in my perspective as a criminal versus
- 51:44Speaker 1: the person who was a public interest had I know
- 51:46Speaker 1: the Roaddy case and I've been around Lyle by the
- 51:49Speaker 1: time they decided Okay, this motherfucker the MTV interview in
- 51:54Speaker 1: the Tuki Williams letter and the letter from Monster really
- 51:57Speaker 1: pushed it over the edge. But Lyll and Air operate
- 52:02Speaker 1: above the population and they move like politicians, not in
- 52:07Speaker 1: a bad way, but they're very much hyper aware of
- 52:10Speaker 1: the impact of their arrival and what that means and
- 52:14Speaker 1: their influence. You know, they got the Secretary of Corrections
- 52:17Speaker 1: on speed Now some of them were coos on the yard.
- 52:21Speaker 2: It's one of the most high profile cases ever ever.
- 52:24Speaker 1: And so did we talk about two very highly influential
- 52:28Speaker 1: motherfuckers that could pretty much get whatever they want done
- 52:31Speaker 1: done because they are doing it for the right reason,
- 52:35Speaker 1: you know what I mean. They're not really trying to
- 52:36Speaker 1: do some crazy shit. Most of the time. It's beneficial
- 52:39Speaker 1: to the population and something that the warden could be
- 52:42Speaker 1: proud to put in his hat. And so Law was
- 52:44Speaker 1: the one who started saying, you're using your you're using
- 52:48Speaker 1: your fame incorrectly, and you're having a rougher experience. So,
- 52:51Speaker 1: like I went through smuggling and beating rules, there is
- 52:54Speaker 1: no rule trying to record songs to spinning about four
- 53:00Speaker 1: years of inside the University of Eric in louoman Indez right,
- 53:06Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, I'm building studios on the
- 53:09Speaker 1: yard now with permission of the fucking wharden. It went
- 53:13Speaker 1: from it when we.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Were sneaking around it was contraband, and now you got permission.
- 53:16Speaker 1: And now I'm building a fucking studio for anybody you
- 53:19Speaker 1: got there, anybody who's if you're staying out of trouble,
- 53:22Speaker 1: that's what you gotta be doing.
- 53:23Speaker 2: And you can get studio time.
- 53:24Speaker 3: You could get.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Studio time and a podcast on that yard. We were
- 53:28Speaker 1: able to do it.
- 53:28Speaker 3: Wow.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Yeah, man, I was out there, little U terms there,
- 53:32Speaker 1: the big homie Ron Ron Ron from sixties. Uh I
- 53:37Speaker 1: had because a lot of those programs in wy Lyle
- 53:40Speaker 1: and Eric started. Because Eric had a lot of groups
- 53:42Speaker 1: that he was founding. He was found that there was
- 53:46Speaker 1: no anger management group. He would create it and find
- 53:49Speaker 1: a staff member willing to be the facilitator and get
- 53:52Speaker 1: the cops to sign off on it, the wharden to
- 53:54Speaker 1: sign off on it, get a space for it, and
- 53:56Speaker 1: now he can pand in out certificates. He's like, man,
- 53:59Speaker 1: people need this shit in their records when they go
- 54:01Speaker 1: to board. So between Dooney and the Menendez brothers, they
- 54:05Speaker 1: were the first ones to start allowing me to understand
- 54:07Speaker 1: that this shit could go in my file, and so
- 54:09Speaker 1: that's why I was butt naked with nothing in my file.
- 54:12Speaker 1: Really the show for you know, he doctor Lear had
- 54:15Speaker 1: to look for that ship. He was looking for it
- 54:17Speaker 1: and finding it. Like this motherfucker got the title to
- 54:19Speaker 1: a house in the central file because they have to
- 54:22Speaker 1: they have to notarize it. So it's like you you
- 54:25Speaker 1: you have a title to a home in your file,
- 54:28Speaker 1: you have anger management slips, you have Like, how come
- 54:31Speaker 1: why did I have to look for that? There's a
- 54:33Speaker 1: section that could have just been in It's a section
- 54:36Speaker 1: for in your file for that, and it's not there.
- 54:38Speaker 1: I had to go find it. And people who wrote
- 54:40Speaker 1: good stuff that I didn't know about counselor saying, you know,
- 54:44Speaker 1: mister Brown is one of the most intelligent men you'll meet, and.
- 54:48Speaker 2: You know whatever they write knowing those guys, did you
- 54:51Speaker 2: watch the FX shows that Nah?
- 54:55Speaker 1: I never watched it. I didn't have to. Yeah, you're
- 54:57Speaker 1: like I kind of percent of all of that shit, Yeah,
- 55:00Speaker 1: and all of it directly from them.
- 55:02Speaker 2: But do those guys like are they like pretty sensitive
- 55:06Speaker 2: to like narratives that get put out about what happened,
- 55:08Speaker 2: and like, you know, obviously there's ever. I mean, I
- 55:10Speaker 2: feel like when you're that famous for such a huge
- 55:13Speaker 2: case like that, you almost can't let the noise get
- 55:17Speaker 2: to you because you'll fucking go crazy.
- 55:18Speaker 1: I'm sure you will er crazier because you're gonna get
- 55:21Speaker 1: that experience is crazy, right, and so if you wasn't crazy,
- 55:24Speaker 1: you're gonna be though, you're gonna.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Get you pay attention to all of that, and like
- 55:28Speaker 2: what people think about.
- 55:28Speaker 1: You, and yeah, and so you they have impenetrable senses
- 55:34Speaker 1: of self. Right, if you believe the cheers, you'll believe
- 55:38Speaker 1: the booze. If you believe the booze, you're gonna believe
- 55:41Speaker 1: the cheers. You gotta just kind of be right in
- 55:43Speaker 1: the middle, skat in the middle man for sure. Yeah, man,
- 55:45Speaker 1: it's the best way to do it. Even if you
- 55:47Speaker 1: if I always say you can't read the comments or if.
- 55:50Speaker 3: You read them, you gotta read them. You gotta observe them.
- 55:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I can observe you don't have to internalize them.
- 55:55Speaker 1: Yeah for su Yeah, this I don't know this motherfucker
- 55:58Speaker 1: is like Oprah said, like they you not even talking
- 56:00Speaker 1: about me. I don't know you, and you don't know me.
- 56:02Speaker 1: You just talking about what you think and I don't
- 56:05Speaker 1: have to give a fuck. I have to worry. I
- 56:07Speaker 1: care what my bank account looked like. My babies is fed,
- 56:10Speaker 1: so that's more important to me.
- 56:12Speaker 3: And they were like that.
- 56:13Speaker 1: They were they could be impacted, you know, or they
- 56:17Speaker 1: would impact each other. One of them do an interview
- 56:19Speaker 1: and didn't talk about it to the other one first
- 56:21Speaker 1: or write about it.
- 56:22Speaker 3: It's like, man, when you do you know it.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Have a a little bit of intensity involved in that
- 56:27Speaker 1: with the two of them, But for the most part,
- 56:29Speaker 1: they taught me to be so centrally focused and obsessed
- 56:34Speaker 1: with your primary goal, which for them was quality of life.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Because I've always said, man, you motherfuckers are two of
- 56:40Speaker 1: the best human beings I've ever met. You're going to
- 56:42Speaker 1: get out of here. Because they were always talking to
- 56:44Speaker 1: me about going home, but it was weird to talk
- 56:47Speaker 1: to them about it because they had life without the
- 56:48Speaker 1: possibility of Barak.
- 56:50Speaker 3: So them working so hard on me.
- 56:53Speaker 1: It's a trip when you think that these motherfuckers were
- 56:55Speaker 1: sentenced in the way where they were never getting home,
- 56:58Speaker 1: but they are the ones who are helping everybodybody else
- 57:00Speaker 1: on their way home. It was it was them and
- 57:03Speaker 1: nobody talked about it, and nobody stood on it, like don't.
- 57:06Speaker 1: I wouldn't want to be associated with that ship on
- 57:08Speaker 1: some gangster shit if.
- 57:09Speaker 3: I like, what the funk without?
- 57:10Speaker 1: You know what I mean? If I could sit in
- 57:12Speaker 1: this chair and not talk about that, I would, But
- 57:14Speaker 1: it would be some sucking shit because the truth is
- 57:16Speaker 1: they was in there helping every fucking body, including me,
- 57:19Speaker 1: anybody that was willing to do it. And so you
- 57:22Speaker 1: go to board, they'll deny you for not having AA,
- 57:25Speaker 1: they'll deny you for not doing NA, they'll deny you
- 57:27Speaker 1: for not doing anger management, but they also not going
- 57:30Speaker 1: to have that program. Right, So you out here on
- 57:34Speaker 1: this yard and none of the ship. The board is
- 57:35Speaker 1: asking you for us.
- 57:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you have any sort of access to do
- 57:39Speaker 2: And now can you get a transfer?
- 57:41Speaker 1: When do you go to board? It's the transfer for
- 57:43Speaker 1: the board. Can you transfer somewhere that does have any
- 57:46Speaker 1: does they do they have it? Where you would transfer at?
- 57:48Speaker 1: So the best solution is you gotta deal with this warden.
- 57:51Speaker 1: You gotta write a memo and you gotta set that
- 57:54Speaker 1: bitch up. And these are the buy I wrote to NA.
- 57:57Speaker 1: They have agreed to give us. This applies and they're
- 58:01Speaker 1: asking if we give them a space, they will send
- 58:03Speaker 1: a facilitator in here, and like, okay, boom boardon signs
- 58:07Speaker 1: that bitch boom and here it goes. And he's like,
- 58:09Speaker 1: don't fuck me over right, I don't want nothing. Don't
- 58:12Speaker 1: be in there fucking these bitches. Don't do some crazy shit.
- 58:16Speaker 1: Don't smuggle nothing in my prison. I'm in a sign
- 58:19Speaker 1: that I'm putting my name on this and you got
- 58:21Speaker 1: to stand on that. And that's what they was doing.
- 58:23Speaker 1: And uh, as a result, I ended up with ten
- 58:25Speaker 1: million different kinds of certificates and all kind of shit
- 58:29Speaker 1: in the right spot of my file. So by the
- 58:31Speaker 1: time I went to board, it.
- 58:32Speaker 2: Was up YO, break it down to me, because you
- 58:36Speaker 2: going gold while incarcerated is crazy, but you're also in
- 58:40Speaker 2: a position that could be a vulnerable one where you're
- 58:44Speaker 2: in jail, so you could be taking advantage of there's
- 58:47Speaker 2: a lot of money, yeah happening. I mean even if
- 58:50Speaker 2: you sell one hundred thousand records in the nineties, like
- 58:52Speaker 2: that's like real money, right, Oh yeah, So how are
- 58:55Speaker 2: you keeping track of the money that's coming in from
- 58:58Speaker 2: all this music? And how how are you making sure
- 59:00Speaker 2: that like your finances are aligned, you're not getting fucked like.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Yeah, man, I did it like against it for many years.
- 59:09Speaker 1: You know, my own boys, big pool. You know, I
- 59:13Speaker 1: have people in place from from Garden Block who were
- 59:16Speaker 1: making sure shit was going away I wanted. And then
- 59:19Speaker 1: my relationship with Cedric was different from a lot of
- 59:21Speaker 1: other people. So Cedric protected me from a lot of things.
- 59:25Speaker 1: And then you know, I would get fifty thousand transferred
- 59:29Speaker 1: over here. And now, like what I like to say
- 59:33Speaker 1: is they have a cup of water, but I control
- 59:35Speaker 1: the spout, and so somebody could fuck off what I
- 59:39Speaker 1: put there. But all they did was teach me I
- 59:41Speaker 1: can't put nothing there. But even that was an expensive
- 59:45Speaker 1: learning experience. So you got my aunts. My family started
- 59:48Speaker 1: tripping like, hey man, such and such a set money
- 59:52Speaker 1: on fire. Like one of my aunts had a real
- 59:53Speaker 1: strong conversation with me about too. That same year that
- 59:57Speaker 1: Vengeance's Mind comes out and does one hundred thousand copies
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: and we're getting seven dollars a pop for these motherfuckers, right,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: So we talked about a week we made seven hundred
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: thousand in a week before taxes and whatever, and so
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: my aunt was like, listen to me, and so you
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: know that I had a very strong visit with my
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: sister and my family, and I hired a lawyer. So like,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: one of my guys came home from Afghanistan, and you know,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: he was writing to me, and I always wrote the
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: military back still if I see in my eye acknowledged that,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: you know, they riding on him, been a hummer, strapped
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the fuck up, bumping You better bring your knight to
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: the yard. They mean it. You know what I mean
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: out here just do or die and they bump, bump do.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: I made do or Die music, So it's a lot
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: of them move fucked with me. And so one of
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: the guys that I was writing back and forth with
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: came home and was like, man, I don't know what
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: the fuck I'm gonna do with my life. I was like,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: I got you. And he started just doing any and
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: everything getting it done. And he went and found the lawyer,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: He went and found the accountant, and then I used
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: the lawyer and accountant to build my LLC while I
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: was still there. So in two thousand and five, block
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Start Entertainment Incorporated. I had That was my first iteration,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: and I got all my articles done and then my
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: lawyer went and got the accountant. Really, so my guy
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Mike found the lawyer the Won Tribe Law Corporation. I
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: got Scott Hervey from the Wine Tribe Law Corporation, and
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: then I ended up getting the accountant. And then those
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: two people. That was it. That was it, those two firms,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: the law firm and my accountant firm. I was good.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: And now if I want to send something somewhere, I will.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: If I don't, I want. And then attorney client trust account.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: So I started dumping all my money in there, because
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: if the courts or anybody wanted to see it, they
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: had to subpoena the records. You couldn't just say hit
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: the bank or just decide you want to know what
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: my finances are. I had it set up in an
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: attorney client trust account where they would even have to
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: notify us that that was something they wanted to do,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: or my lawyer would have the ability to say that
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: this was something that he didn't have to reveal and
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: fight over it. At least give us a chance to
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: figure out what I wanted to do. So I got
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: set up by two thousand and five. I was set
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: up to have a life, you know what I mean.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: And then I mean that's I mean, that's still like
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: fifteen years later from when you go in, right, yeah.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: About that, Yeah that was my fifteenth year.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's like there's still a lot of money.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: So what do you get out of prison? And you're
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: because you were able to take those you're you're fine,
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Like you have to least some sort of financial security.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, And I came home with you know, my
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: ex wife was somebody who you know, and we had
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: trained that way when we first met, she was in
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: a small apartment, you know what I mean, just trying.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: Was this someone you met before you went to jail?
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Nah? We met while I was doing my time, And
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: so how does that work? By the way, man, you
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: want to be loved? Man, you trace fine love.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Nah.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Sometimes it's the hommies hooking you up or somebody you
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: have a peripheral thing with. But for me, you know,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: I ran through every distraction that you can have in life.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: In that environment, I was like Solomon and Ecclesiastics. I
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: did all the bullshit. So I got high, I got drunk.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: The homie sending me bitches me Lynch and six did
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: a competition on who could get the most bitches to
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: tattoo your name on them. I won from the pen,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: you know I won. We thought it was funny, you
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: know what I mean, like on some gangster shit. So
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: we in there. You develop a view of relationships based
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: highly on getting things done. You need a runner more
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: than you need a bitch to be in love with,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: you know what I mean.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: For sure, you need someone who can trust to go, Hey,
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: I need you to go call at the lawyer.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: I need you to go yeah. And i'ma love that.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: I don't give a fuck what you do with your vagina.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: You get in the bitch trying to convince you I
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: love you and all I and blah blah blah. Man,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: you know how many bitches got pregnant while I was
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: doing my time from nineteen ninety two to two thousand
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: and two. I had no less than six or seven
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: bitches that was handling business for me up getting pregnant,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: tattoos and everything. It's bitch pregnant the motherfucker. You know what, bitch,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: You got my name all across your ass and nigga.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: Then skeeter it on.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: You didn't let a nigga skeat on my name, you
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: punk ass bitch. No Diddy. Did they all tell you
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna wait for you. Yeah, they all selling you
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: the same bullshit you selling them. It is what it is,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: right and you you providing for them and they making
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: runs and it's a job. They making some money, you
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: making some money. Mutually beneficial, mutually beneficial. So you by
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: the time I got to the point where, oh I'm
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: gonna be in this relationship, you know, you feel you
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: get you come in and that aware of all this
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: trash and it is. It's trauma too. It's trauma. You
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: might have liked a few of these bitches, so it's
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: some trauma. So now you you got to a female
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: that you're looking at, like, man, maybe I could maybe,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: maybe we may be able to do this real thing
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: I want to do because now I got the accountant
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: and the lawyer. I got a little bit of a bag.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: I can send her ten bands here, I could send
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: her five bands there. It's different, you know what I mean.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: So it's like you gonna stand on business, you know
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: what I mean. So you got somebody and she was
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: the type of person who would graduated college was you know,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: I had a corporate psychology, and I'm instilling this gainst
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: the shit in that and so by the time I
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: got home, she had whipped them some ass, and the
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: lawyers and we had whipped some ass. And you know
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: on the seven hundred thousand dollars house here, you know,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: coming from a home that I think and we have
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: one in Sparks. And when they built that Tesla Battery
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: factory sold that and got a bag and used that
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: bag to get the house. You know, the bigger the
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: bigger spots. So I don't even know I'm getting out
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: and I got a home in the gated community in
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Las Vegas.
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: And I'm I'm still in the pen crazy.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: And the title for that is in my in my
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: file because I had to you know, I had to
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: notarize it, so the notary come in, you got to
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: stamp at the record and that went in my file.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: So they knew that too. You know, that motherfucker out
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: of the house. He got this, He got that. They
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: was aware of it in the business that I built.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: So yeah, I started wanting to have a real life
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: for myself. And now i'm your brain development. I hit
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: twenty five, I knew, like, damn man, it's a lot
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: of bullshit going on. I'm full of shit. Everybody's full
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: of shit. But the music was honest. I was being
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: honest in them lyrics, and so I just went into
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: start adulthood.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I decided, like, I want to be grown. My body
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: was already. I told one of my little homies this, nigga,
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: you know, you could just wake up in the morning
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: and be like, I'm grown and you would be right.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: He's like, what you mean. I'm like, what is your
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: I said, nigga, your New Year's resolution is going to
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: be to be a man, be an adult. Your body
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: already did it. It's just now decision got to be
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: mad and I had already done that. Oh two was
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: when I started my tenth year. I'm rocking and rolling
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: that whole time, any and everywhere I go, Right, it's
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: Melee's all this bullshit, dope, smuggling shit in making music,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: rocking and rolling. I get to two thousand and two,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: two thousand and three, two thousand and four, two thousand
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: and five, if I got the lawyer, I got the count,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: and I got a woman that's going hard on some
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: adult shit. And I'm thinking, like, all right, if I
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: got to do the rest of my life, I'm gonna
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: do it like this. And then over the course of
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: that from five to twenty twelve, you have I start
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: going to the psychologist Doney tell me to do these
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: programs right.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: That becomes like, oh, there's a light at the end
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: of the tunnel. Potentially there's a.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Way of life. I didn't even I just wanted to
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: if I was gonna be in there for the rest
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: of my life, I wanted to do it like a
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: g I wanted to be a grown ass man. I
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: wanted to be in control of whatever part of my
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: destiny I could control, and so I focused on that.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: And then Miller versus Alabama start popping up, and shit
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: was on the cover of the USA today. I was like, ooh,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: we like nigga a big homie said. People started, hey man,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: hey man, oh Jesus talking, this is real. This is
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: on the Assembly four and then boom, by twenty twelve,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: the legislation for Senate Bill two sixty member. My little
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: hommy Bird, my young brother Bird actually brought that paper
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: to me because they knew I hated that. Don't bring
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: me this shit talking about I'm going home. Same way.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: I didn't want to do the lilon Eric's talking about
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: this shit. I'm where, I'm fine, making my fucking burritos,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: watching Sunday night football. Bro, bring me this fucking bullshit
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: have me down the street emotionally and my space. So
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: I'm like whatever, and this nigga was like he was like, ak,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: listen to me, ax, listen to me. He's standing at
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: the door and he's like, you're going home. You're going home.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: And he slid the papers through the door, even crying,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: and we took off so I didn't have to see
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: him cry. And I read that shit. I was like,
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: what the fuck. I went and jumped on the phone,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: called home and it's like an whatever. You know, we
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: hear this all the time, and my lady called, uh,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: my lawyer. I had Charles Carbum and she caught the
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: lawyer and he was like, yeah, this is real and
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: we'll have him out of there. It's gonna take me
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: about three years, but he's coming home.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: And I was like, who, So now you got something
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: to look forward to.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so now we're hopelessness to maybe to hope to thinking.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: I was thinking, now, man, I think I might get
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: the fuck out of here.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: So you had an incident in twenty ten where you
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: almost got killed in prison. They like to say it
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: like I almost got killed when you got stabbed. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: I did get Now this is in the middle of
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: the hope, at the end of the you know you see, yeah,
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: you know there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: It was a lot going on at that point.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Yeah, So what happened was it? So, from what I understand,
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: you were essentially approached to like help put out some
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: music from somebody in prison, and you said no, or
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: so like give me the What happened?
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: I think even the approach to give music was a
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: red heerent. What really happened, and then we could talk
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: about this now, was that I went on an attorney visit.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: I read the rules, and then the rules your attorney
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: can do a deposition and bring a recording device. Okay,
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: And so I'm still on my shit and this time
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: what I'm motivated by is I wanted to record from
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: songs that represented my current philosophy. Yeah, where your head
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: is courtly, Yeah, I felt like I was being the
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: kid with the gun to his head was sixteen when
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: he took that picture that unforgiving x raighted. You know,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I was a different person. So I'm like, I wanted
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: to make sure I could get some music done. So
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: I go out with my lawyer and I'm recording the
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: music and the rules. They can't listen to your attorney visit,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: but the cop in the room can hear me rapping
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: in there, and so he don't know what to do.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: And they don't know the fucking rules. They learn the
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: rules by fucking the rules up and getting corrected. They
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: don't know the fucking book. We know the book better
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: than they do, right, And so this dude calls his
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: sergeant like, man, I don't know what to do.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: But this dude is in there recording.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: He's rapping, he's recording raps, and the sergeant busts in
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: the room and he picked all the equipment up and
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: he took the fucking raps and he cuts my lawyer out.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: And I'll tell him, hey, man, you're making the mistake stards,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: you're making the mistakes stars.
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: He's like, yeah, you get.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: The fuck out of here. The fuck you think you're
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: you and take your eyes back to your cell. I said,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: you don't have to talk to me like that, Sir.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: You're making a mistake, Sarge, You're making a mistake. So
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: I go back and they put me in my cell.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: About thirty minutes later, they called me to the program office.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Or walk in the program office and I can see
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: the people standing there. Now, the lawyers are here, I
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: can see the higher ups are here, and I sit
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: in the chair. Nick Large and is standing there looking
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: like he fucking got a canary in his mouth because
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: he got checked. And the captain is there, and they
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: got these fucking papers they want me to sign, and
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, what we're doing and they like, well,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: mister Brown, looks like we have ourselves a pickle. Whatever
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: you may have been doing is not against the rules.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: I was like, that's why I was doing it.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm aware.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: I'm aware of that, But what they would like is
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: for me to talk about it outside of that fucking
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: legal visit, because I'm only protected that in that legal visit.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: So I'm aware of that, so I'm not about to
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: acknowledge nothing that I was doing. So they were like, well,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: how many songs did you record? And I didn't answer
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: the question, and then I finally said it is do
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: you think I'm stupid? Like DoD we think I'm stupid.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: I know what's going on here. You got checked. I
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: told you to leave me alone. I told you you
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: were making a mistake. And when I'm done with you,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: you're gonna be working in the tower outside of the
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: prison by yourself for eight hours with a pair of
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: binoculars watching tumbleweeds when I'm done with you, cause you
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: should have left me the fuck along. So they don't
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: like that. They don't like that. That's too much power.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: They got to leave this dude the fuck alone. And
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: he got a lawyer, and he's got he's got some money.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: I'm too protected. We can't send me back to the
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: yard and X ray it dies and that's gonna be okay,
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Like it ain't that kind of circumstance. So what what
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: can they do? The Son of Sam lawsuit didn't work.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: The San of Sam Long got struck down by the
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Kyle count your Supreme Court. This is not against the rules.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: What I just tried to do. I don't even have
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: possession the contra man. And you can't even say that
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: you heard even you heard that. You can't even if
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: you say you heard it. You're in the checkmate, right.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: So give me my ship and I'm I'm going back
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: to my cell correct, and it's like, yeah, that's what
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: it is. So I go back to this cell. Sergeant's
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: up in that tower, you know that version of that tower,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: and his friends are mad about that. So now I
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: got this crop of angry cops who who are upset
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: that they just got defeated like seos, and I get
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: warned about that. Get I get warned that hey.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: There's they ain't fucking with you.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: There are there's cops who are fans of me and
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: that are hearing the talk, and they're like, man, these
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: dudes are advocating for something to happen to you. Man,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: be aware of that. Be aware. And I'm like, I
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: don't give a fuck. Like if somebody think I did
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: all that time and I'm standing on that yard that
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: day and don't know that this is going down, then
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: they they ain't never did no time. So I'm outside
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: because I didn't give a fuck. Bro, I've seen worse
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: than that. To me, these was kids trying to they
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: was playing, they playing tough. They had everybody had an
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: opportunity to go be tough. I didn't change my life,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: got my shit together. I'm just dropping me some rhymes.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: So approaching me about doing anything for them. Was we
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: used to do that to people, you know what I mean, Like, Hey, hommie,
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: what's that? And you got my my five dollars, you
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: get mad de yoda in that tooth paste I gave you.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: Ain't man all we with and we was gonna anyway.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: It was gonna happen. It wasn't no getting out of it.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: So when them dudes started that whole make an album
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: for me thing, or we need two grand or this
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: or that, I was like, man, I'm not giving a
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: nigga a souper on. I'm not doing nothing I don't
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: want to do. And again, I'm the biggest motherfucker on
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: the yard, right. I didn't start peeling the weight off
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: until I got to board and my lawyer was like,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: you're a black man with all this hair and all
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: these muscles and all this. You're terrifying to look at
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: to the people you were about to. My lawyer told
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: me to cut my hair. My lawyer told me to
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: lose some weight. My lawyer told me the guy the
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: perception is everything.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: And then my health told me keep it this way.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: You know what I mean. Now that I'm fifty years
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: old and free, but at the time. I'm not worried
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: about nobody doing nothing and me and not because of
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: no tough shit. I just believe, man, I believe in
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: something greater than me. Man. They call it God, people
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: call it the universe. Man, Alahuac bar is how I feel. Nigga,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: if it's meant for me today, let's go. I want
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: to know. I'm not waking up and thinking this nigga
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: could whoop me. You gotta come and do it. You
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: get taking a life, they call it you. I'm not
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: giving you shit. And so we was outside and niggas
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: walked up and I see that these you don't have
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: no business coming this direction. I'm at a table for
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: Cripson blood. You know what I mean. It's a piru
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: from Cedar Block over here, it's in San Diego, Keyway,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: it's a brother from the Bay. It's just a it's
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: a black table. And so I just my instincts is
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: the nigga got too close. I went straight at him
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: and back back bap, and he got dropped. And it
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: turns out that that was the person that had that
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: the primary weapon that would have been most harmful. So
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: like D the biggest threat. Yeah, and it was good
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: because he was the tough one. And so now everybody
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: else is thinking now and you're supposed to run. Somebody
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: pulled the knife on you, you're supposed to run. But
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: burying Dony and others, I knew that if you turn
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: your back, you're done. You gotta nigga, we gotta do this.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: And then doing so, you could look that man in
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: his eyes, keV. You could look him in his eyes
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: and see after position Nigga's on the ground, you could
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: see they made him do it. You didn't want to
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: come up to do it. You don't know we doing
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: this now. I'm talking to people. We in the same
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: amount of trouble. If we stop right now or if
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: we keep going this up, it's this is it. And
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: I'm kind of it's a couple of them that I
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: wanted to do something too for a while, and I
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: wasn't in a position in my life to be able
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: to start nothing, to just jump off. I couldn't start nothing,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: but you could defend yourself. But I could defend myself.
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: And so I got to beat a couple motherfuckers up,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: and I got a couple scratches and scrapes and bruises,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: but ain't nobody. He damn, they're killed nothing.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Damn.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: That's a motherfucking lie.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: And so the reason they think that lie is because
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: when I was getting so I'm in the room and
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: they looking, they examining, and I got a motherfucker asking
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: me questions, and he's and the cops are mad about it.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: The nurses and shit are angry at this dude, and
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: they like, hey, man, excuse me, and they were, you know,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: checking out to see if I'm in immortal danger right now.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: And he's like, who did it? Who did it? And
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: so I closed my eyes and leaned back. I swear
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: to God, I swear on my mother's life, fully, fully,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: conscious fully, fucking fine. Other than these scratches and whatever
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: adrenaline through the roof, I don't feel no pain, of course,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: And I leaned back and I just just quietly, just left,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: just very quietly. And they responded like, oh my god,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: he's crashing, and so they start trying to take care
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: of me. I was listening to this whole thing happened,
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: and that was how the investigator got ran out the room,
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: and so everybody ran with that. X almost died, like whatever,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: if that makes me, people feel better than good for them.
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: Yo, at what point in time, because you know there
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: were five people involved in the initial incident that led
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: you to go to prison. Anytime somebody loses the life,
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: right right, right right, there's at what point in time
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: do you face that and kind of come to peace?
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: Like you said you had empathy, you eventually ended up
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: getting empathy for what happened, Like, yeah, like myself as
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: a child. Yeah, like at the end of the day,
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: like it was a crime that had a victim. So
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: at what point in time did you kind of like
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: come to terms with the incident that night that changed
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: your life forever?
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: I think I came to terms with that around two
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: thousand and two, in that window where you know too,
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: I don't know how old I was by the end.
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: Maybe I'll take thirty and four.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm twenty eight, so I'm old enough to
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: have had that brain thing happen, and I'm old enough
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: to know it happened because I can like, doesn't look
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: the same, colors, don't look the same. Motherfucker.
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: Once you hit a certain age, it's like you put
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: a dupe pair of glasses on. You see the whole
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: world different it really is.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: And I felt like going from twenty five to thirty
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: and then going from thirty to thirty five, thirty five
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: to forty. I've had these stages where life looked different,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: and so I had I had trying to reconcile that
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: within myself. I did a total of nine years of
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: solitary confinement over making music, you know, getting locked up.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: Three years here, two years here, bust therapy transfer me,
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: I get off.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: And that's when it's just you and your thoughts.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: It's just you and your thoughts.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: When the door closes you either I can hear so
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: like I'm in the hole at corkorand I'm in the shoot,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: and so they have said, I'm in the ASU. I'm
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: into what they call Z unit. And there's a window
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: that's just a slice, right, it's a slice a rectangle
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: and standing up and you go look out that window
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: and there's a white wall and that's it.
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: Left and right, that's it.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: And I got another one of those slits in the roof,
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: and every now and then I see the sun passed
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: by and magneto shit. And so I'm in this room
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: and the bed is just stell is a is a
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: concrete slab built out of the wall like a cave.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: They built out of concrete and it has a mattress
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: on it, and then the wall itself where the sink
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: is is steel, and you have a sink and a toilet.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: And I was and that was me in that room
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: and mail and in some books, you know what I mean.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: And so I'm listening to people crack. I can hear
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: the dude down there that can't take it no more.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: And I hear them running down there to go in there.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: You gotta come back. They got to come with the
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: shield and the masks on and open his door and
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: go wrestling. And maybe he smears shit all over his
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: body and water all on the floor trying to get
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: out slippery, and they fighting. I can hear him down there,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: and next thing you know, they got him on Senna Kwon.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: He running around ruling, you know what I mean. So
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: I can see the options. I can see the options.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: So the options were, I'm waking up in the morning,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna say a prayer, I'm gonna work out, I'm
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: gonna drink my coffee. I'm gonna work out, and got
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: my little pack of coffee, little steak coffee pack, and
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna work out. I'm gonna take a bird bath.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna clean up my mess. I'm gonna get my
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: reading in. I'm gonna finish my reading. I'm gonna write
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: my letters. I finish that. I'm gonna write me some songs.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: I finish that. I'm gonna do some reading and go
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: to sleep, and I'm gonna do this.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: This is just that Roustie routine, like a machine.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Like a machine, and I'm gonna put in what I
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: want to put in. So I started reading anything that
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: had to do with Solomon, anything that had to do
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: with Jesus, anything that had to do with Mohammed, anything
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: that had to do with Buddha, anything that had to
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: do with like John F. Kennedy, RFK, Martin Luther, King,
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Malcolm X. I'm like, I'm constructing a father figure for
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: myself out of historical figures and quotes in Winston Church
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: the most g But what the fuck was wrong with Hitler?
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: If any was something wrong with Hitler? Was he was
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: he right?
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: Or was he tripping? I read mine Camp.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: I read it like I want to know if I
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: think you were tripping, Like, oh yeah, money was tripping.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: Money was tripping a little bit but I wanted to know.
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: I wanted to understand historical figures, the Prince, Nicolo, Machiavelli, uh, everything,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: everything that I could get my hands on, the play,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: those caves, the Socratic method, fucking Malcolm Gladwell. When the
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: roots dropped, the tipping point, like I went into I
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: did a deep dive. I went in the rabbit hole,
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: the tipping point. Oh, Malcolm Gladwell, Like, who the fuck's
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Malcolm Gladwell? What else did he write? And you know, Freakonomics.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: I went from Freakonomics and got to tipping Point and
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: then I got to Outliers, and Outliers changed my fucking
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: life when I read that book.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: So like being in the hole, like that's the approach
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: people should take, but the other approaches you let like
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: you can't take it, and then you end up going
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: crazy to try to get out to what to maybe
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: go to the fucking like if you end up like yeah,
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: because at least that's you're getting out.
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: Yeah, at least you.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Got your pudding and you got you and take your
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: little pills and it's better than that. Maybe, I guess,
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: I don't know. I didn't want nothing to do with it.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: I felt like they couldn't have my brain, Doctor Markle.
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: I've read what he wrote about surviving a concentration camp
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: and what he had that the last thing he had
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: left when he didn't know if he was getting gassed tomorrow,
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: all he could do is control what was going on
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: here and here. That was it, and that's how it
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: felt like. I'm in the corner and I'm not going
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: under the bed, so we gotta fight. If you keep
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: coming this way, we're gonna have to fight. I'm not
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: going under the bed, you know. And it's a still slap.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: You can't go under the bed anyway, so like it's
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: a concrete slab. So that was my philosophy.
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: You and brother lynch Man, obviously you guys are tied
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: together forever.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: Forever, Doctor Dry and Snoop Dogg in Northern California.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: Can you give me an idea of you know, because
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: Lynch ended up working with Strange, right he did. I
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: don't know if he still is or not, but he
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: but he you know, he had signed with Strange And
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: was that kind of your introduction to Tech and Travis?
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: And because when you got out, did you already have
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: a situation figured out with strange music.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: So while I was still incarcerated, and this will bring
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: us to a couple of people we mentioned before. I
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: was still incarcerated making music, and Brian Shafton actually ended
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: up putting out music for me while I was incarcerated.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: So Brian Shafton gave me a deal in twenty ten eleven,
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: twenty eleven, like, I'm coming right off of this shit,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: because I did get my songs recorded and out, So
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: I'm coming right off of this big old fight, and
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: which was the police sent the niggas at me, right,
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: so I get up because I put the sergeant in
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: that in the corner of the earth. So I come
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: from that to I get to the hot desert, which
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: at the time is the most dangerous yard. So I
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: get my reward for not getting in trouble because I
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: was attacked, right. I didn't even gotta say shit, it's
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: all this happened on camera. And think about this an
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: attempted murder if the speculation is a trip. So anybody
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: that's against that have been through some gangs, the shit,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: we just gonna do it like this, kiv An attempted
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: murder on a prison yard, That'd be like an apartment
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: complex that has' there's cameras everywhere, but these cops have
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: also been on this yard with all of us for
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: seven years, five years at a time. Right, we know whoever?
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: You know all these guys. I see you guys every
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: fucking day.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I know the motherfuckers at my gym. Now it's
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: only been two years, but I know who that is.
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: I know Bruce, I know Miss Tina Hi. Good morning,
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: Miss Tina Hi. On the ray right right, same thing,
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: so on camera, located weapons, they didn't disappear. Cops identify everybody. No,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: all parties involved and attempted murder. And there's no there's
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: no court case.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: That shit's crazy.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: No court case King's County right, Colinga, California. There's no
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: court case. Not one person ended up in court because
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: you have an uncooperative, uncooperative victim, right, victim, So if
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: don't matter if you won. So I did nine months
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: locked up for nine months as a result of that
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: for escalating to the point of not being a victim.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: That's what they were trying to do to me.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: So because you defended yourself, you no longer became a victim.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: And because you weren't going to necessarily cooperate into the
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: extent they wanted to. It didn't become a case.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: I didn't I did, I didn't. I wasn't enough of
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: it was I wasn't enough of a victim. I defended
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: myself too well. When your choices are to die right
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: or or or or win, which is to live, it's
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: literally a life in that morning. How closer to everybody
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: they would have Maybe, yeah, I had to get I
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: had to want me to die out here, But.
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: Think about how many how many times that happens in prison,
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: where just that kind of shit just gets swept into
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: the rug, and like, people don't have justice, and there's
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: family members out here that you want to know what
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: happened to their.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Fucking kid, and oh I saw a lot of that.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: Yeah, And then it's like it doesn't really matter because
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: they look at you as second class citizens at this point,
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: and you're never gonna get your your true justice, never
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: for that family.
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: It's a difficult environment to have empathy for it, right,
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: So to get people to realize that if you're too
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: defiant and the cops want you to die, because the
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: existence of a neo out here, there's somebody walking around
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: we can't fucking punish, right, We can't stop him from
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: making music. We can't we write him up as a
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: slap on the risk. We can't take his money. He's
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: going to visit, he's he's got his lawyers. He's like,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: what the fuck do you do? Right, Well, we're gonna
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: get him what we're gonna whacking. We're gonna smut you up,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: accuse you of a bunch of shit.
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: How do you get away? We're recording that album.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: People who can't read the rules, who can't even really understand,
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: are easy to manipulate for sure, because if he did, yeah,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: how did he get away with that? Because there's no rule,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: dumb ass, it's not against the rules. But I'm not
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: explaining that to motherfuckers who come up to me, because again,
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: I'm a black male who comes from a crypt background.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: I don't got to explain myself to no motherfucker that
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: ain't from what I'm from. I don't owe you no
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: fucking explanation. And if I did give you an explanation,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: you want to know how I got it in here?
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: You want to know how I did whatever you want?
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: What do you want to know that for? And who
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: the fuck are you you know what I mean, And
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: I'm big on that. I can go find out nigga
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: even told on all your homies, Like I'm not telling
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: you how public. Yeah, I would have gave somebody some game.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Hey man, you want to do your music. I respect that.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: I've done that before, where somebody was busting and I
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: see him and I'll be like, hey, check it out.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: And I pulled somebody.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: We locked up with any other artists who ended up
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: kind of getting out and doing something.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Well, I mean, Razkas was there, you know me and
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: I remember writing back and forth to Flesh and Bone
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: man Stack a good dude, and so like me and Stack,
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: we both you know, I started going to uh Islamic
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: surfaces services. I started going to Juma and doing Ramadan,
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: and so so was Flesh, and so we both had
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: took Shahada, which is a part of my story y'all
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: never really told. So, like a part of what changed
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: for me was was getting into Islam, really really digging
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: into Islam.
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: And like you kind of dug into every religion, I dug.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Into all of them and land because I really did.
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: I did dig into all of them. Yeah you should,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: but I landed in a place of I kind of
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: liked how heat, I like mono theism, I like I
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: liked the concept of of this this particular construct. So
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: I hung out there if the point of studying all
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: that stuff was to find somewhere to hang out, and
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: I just thought, you know, the earliest oldest philosophy that
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: I could find, that was what I wanted to rock with,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: you know what I mean, And so I kind of
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: landed there. But yeah, we used to be given, you know,
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: get a letter to the e man and you take
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: it over there, and they were like, yeah, man, you know,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: it was beautiful to be in touch with everybody like that.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: But like dope ass people, the dopest rappers I ever
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: met in prison never got out, Like there's a there
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: was a cat from Compton. There's a cat from content fuckers,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: because man, there's a cat from Compton who I think
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: was arguably the dopest rapper I ever ran into. Like
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: I think he was doper than it niggas on the streets,
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: like right at that if motherfuckers had heard him and
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: we because you know, we go back and forth, he
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: spit a rhyme. Everybody that thought they could rap was
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: gonna be my rapper to the point I was a
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: battle rapper like you had to be. And so yeah,
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: I ran into a lot of motherfuckers with a lot
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: of talent, but not necessarily who came home and did
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: nothing with it.
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: Can you talk about just like how important you and
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: Lynch's French has been to just yeah everything, man, like
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: I'm sure you.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: Know, yeah, that's my brother. I love Lynch. So so
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: what I'm fifteen h.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: Sixteenth, So December seventeenth, nineteen ninety one, nineteen ninety excuse me.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: We have a party for my grandmother's death day. And
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: my cousin Nicole brings six with her and six six
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: and Lynch and all of them were older than me,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: so you know, we were trafficking in different circles. I
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: would come up to fuck with the big homies and
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: go back into what I was doing. And Lynch was,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: you know, into hip hop that it was with the
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: dancing and flipping and the rough busting rhymes, you know.
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: But he from Tama Sharon and Kirk Waite, like he
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: from the gardens. He was outside, but he was outside
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: doing some shit that some dope shit, while we was
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: doing dumb shit. And so like me, and Bo are like,
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: I say, Ozone, but they was like, well they was
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: like Ozone and Turbo and me and Bo was like
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: old dog and can okay, you know what I mean?
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: And so six showed up and I had all my
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: rhymes on the walls, you know, thumb tacked and sheet
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: protectors and shit, write a new one, put it on
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: the wall, read them and I would just read my rhymes.
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: That was kind of a thing for me. I kind
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: of steal a tape of paper to the wall and
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: just do free form righting and shit.
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: And so, uh, six is like who wrote this shit?
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: And it was like, you know, it's my shit.
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: And I've been working with DJ Tantrum, Percy Hunter from
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: Flat Dog Crip, and so me and Percy was working
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: on what ultimately would become the first half a Psychoactive
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: and the entire niggas in Blackie Pee that I did.
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: And Six was like, oh, nah, man, tomorrow, I'm gonna
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: bring my brother over, you know. And then Lynch was
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: like had the name Ice Cold. His hip hop name
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: was Ice Cold, and six is was stroubbed like he
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: was you know, them niggas was tickers, and so he
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: bring them over. We get there and I'm like, it's Kevin.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: Nigga's Kevin Man, you know what I mean. So I know,
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: but Lynch. We look at Lynch like, oh, that nigga
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: was talented out there on some it was our little
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: Michael Jackson outside and so uh we bust rhymes all
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: night and they like, man, if you could pay for
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: your studio time, we'll put you in a real studio.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: So I'm like, hell yeah. I went to the big
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: homies and told him what I wanted to do. I
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: talked to Donkey Kong from PJ Watt shout out to
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: shout out to my niggas from pj's Donkey Kong gave
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: me you know, he hooked me up. I went to
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: my big homie Ken, Big Ken Martin BK. He hooked
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: me up, and I grind and grind and grind and grind.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: I was slinging on in the fifties, slanging in the
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: Cadillac apartments, slanging in and flat in the flats, and
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: I paid for my studio time. And what we would
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: do is like I'll get six hours and I'll do
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: four hours, and Lynch would help us. We had all
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: my samples, like almost everything came from Percy, and then
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: Lynch will be like, hey, we should do this or
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: we should do that. But Lynch gave us the process.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: He sat there in the engineering chair with the engineer
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: next to him and kind of made sure everything. He
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: doctor drake my shit, you know what I mean. And
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: so the difference is I came out first because of
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: I had access to money and I'm selling dope and
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: I was on some gangs and shit, so I really
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: was the baby.
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: But I was just moving faster than everybody.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: And then bo came home while I was like halfway
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: through psychoactives. So like Bo's first times in a real
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: studio was with me going in there to work with me,
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: work with Lynch and yeah, Lynch Lynch, Lynch was right there.
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: So Boom. I ended up going to juvenile Hall on
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: a joy ride. I'm joy riding. We was gonna go
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: clap some shit up and we got pulled over. So
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: I got a joy ride, the hommy got joy ride,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: the homey took a pistol, and the honey got a
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: GTA Boom. I'll spend a weekend in juvenile Hall. My
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: mam would come and get me Monday. And during that weekend.
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: Big Meek actually was in Juvenile Hall with me, and
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: Big Meek is like got the cut list, he got
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: the staying, he got.
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: The guy who helped finance.
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: Yeah what Cedric was doing right right?
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: And he Sebo's little brother, and so like, I'm on
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: twenty third Street and bad bad in the gardens, which
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: is really a red street. It's like going toward the
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: blood side in twenty fourth Street right next to it, right,
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: So I'm slanging coke at Tracy Butler House and Meek
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: is right next door. I used to see him all
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: the time, but they was. I always thought this nigga
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: is a grown ass man. So I found out he
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: was a kid when I went to Juvenile Hall and
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: the nigga was in there and I was rapping and shit.
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: So people don't know who x Rate it is because
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: my cover was drawn by brother Lynch and it was like,
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: well I didn't that wasn't even my name. I had
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: just said it in a line and a rap and
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: people just started calling me ax rated, like how Scarface
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: got his name?
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: And then.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Lynch was like, nah, I gotta be r AI D
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: E D And he drew my first logo and drew
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: my first cover. So that shit is on consignment and
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: Tower Records. I'm in Juvenile Hall and I'm spitting rhymes
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: and shit and it's like, Nigga.
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: You asked Righted.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: I was like yeah, he was like, Nigga, this is
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: what we gotta do. Blah blah blah. So me Meek
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: had been looking for me. So I go home and
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: I on a humbug reach out to Meek. We ended
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: up rolling all over to town, me and my met
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: of you brother, and we just he started paying for
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: every motherfucker thing, and then you know, he kind of
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: put us with Cedric, so we was in the thick
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: of it. By the time. I literally had ten out
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: of eleven songs for Psychoactive done the day we met
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: with Cedric Wo. So I made one song. I made
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: that Sickness, the last song on the album, was the
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: only song left and Meek had. We did the first
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: six by ourselves, and Lynch got involved, and then the
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: next five happened with Meek and Lynch and all the
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: way involved, and that was that was how we ended
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: up taking that shit to Cedric. But so when you
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: get locked up, Lynch is still with you throughout the
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: whole yeah, he wrapped the whole time like we just
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: always was together when it when it musically. When we
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: came for twenty four Deep, Lynch called him. You know,
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: I had me do the verses and shit, I called Lynch. Rather,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: he had me do the little little part of the
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: verse for on the answer machine. He said my name
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: everywhere he did five me really in it. And then
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: I go from that to Season of the Sickness. So
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: Season of the Sickness was actually the name of my
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: Exorcist album. See, I had been working on what would
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: be So I was going from Psychoactive to Season of
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: the Sickness. That was my plan. And when I got
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: locked up, I think like I was dead. Really, I
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: was gone. It's like this niggas facing the death penalty.
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: It is for sure. So I'm gone, Why all count
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: your life's over?
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: And Exorcist is like this mythological thing that nobody believes
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: is real, you know what I mean. And so I'm like,
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: or what Season of the Sickness? So I'm like, yeah,
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna do Season of the Sickness. Blah
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: blah blah. I'm talking to Cedric. I'm kind of telling Lynch.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: I'm blessing rhymes on the phone with Lynch and shit.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: And so before I get the game from mac dre
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: and I start recording what became got renamed the Exorcists.
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: They made they titled Lynch's album Season of the Sickness,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: and so that is how that happened. But that was
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: that was one hundred percent the name of what people
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: now know as Exorcists.
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: I'm wondering, like, like when you guys would was there
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: like a conscious effort to make sure that the content
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: was extremely dark and edgy and like kind of crazy
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: at times?
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that me as in MC originally initially
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: were picking all that up.
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: Can we be it's funnest, funny, funny, my bad.
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: So you end up in a circumstance where uh, where
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: were were we at the Season of the Sickness? The
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: co conscious effort to make crazy shit. So we end
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: up doing where I have n w A straight out
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: of Compton and n W A Niggas for Life. And
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: they started getting a little extreme for sure, to kill
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: a hooker, to kill a prostitute easy, he was a
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: little extreme for sure.
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: And then the ghetto boy joes hell extreme.
- 1:38:56Speaker 2: Yeah, like my playing tricks on me was like a
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: real like dark record. Low kis like you know what
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: I mean, grip it on that other level. It was
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: a dark album.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: The entire album was tricky, and so you had Chucky,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: you had all of that going on, and so we
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: end up in a circumstance where we were influenced by that,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: you know, and I know about Sean, I know about gangs,
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: the nip, you know, it's people doing ship, and so
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: we were we were we kind of mixing this game
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: banging ship with that crazy ship. And I was deliberate.
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: So me and Lynch kind of got into this thing,
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: met him and six of who could say the wildest ship.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: It just was really us amongst ourselves because you know,
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: I with the nigga nuts and guts, I came up
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: with that, and Lynch just was like he came up
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: with this baby killer ship and six. So we kind
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: of just humans and ship. Lynch Lynch did that.
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, what was the the you better pray
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: when't you see we put that down up? We were
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: talking about feed this kid someone else's Yeah.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah we did. And I think that's where
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: the fracture happened where Lynch Lynch kept going extreme, and
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: I maybe because of my circumstances winning to some gangster shit.
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: Yeah, because you also like couldn't be talking about certain shit.
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: And then someone the jail, here's the shit, like, yo,
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: you want that crazy shit dog like you know what
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: Like I wasn't impacted by that.
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: I was. I think we we had we diverted in intent.
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: I think because I was writing fantastical songs all the
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: way up until we got to Duce Fat of Life
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: got it. So I was still in that psychology. But
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: when it got to the point to start my trial,
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: it was a sober thing. I got splashed through the
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: cold bucket of water. So now you got that's where
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: I show up as an individual. So now Due Fat
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: of Life is the first Honorey Brown song. That's the
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: first song I wrote without a character when I wasn't
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: in a character, even if it was informed by my
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: life experiences, and sure it still was for sure, you
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: know what I mean. So Due fot of Life happened.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: Then I write Deadly Game, then I write Missaying to
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: p Then ILL write Land of the Loss. You know
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: what I mean. I started going in a different I
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: became more and Scarface did this too, and that helped me, Like.
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: Yeah, like Scarface became Brad Jordan.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: Yeah, he moved more. He merged Brad Jordan's Scarface, right,
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: and then also like what.
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: He started to do on his own was very different
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: than what you would hear with the Ghetto Game exactly.
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: And I was inspired by that as an MC because
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: I wanted to where am I going, you know, And
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: I'm looking at Ice Cube, I'm looking at Scarface. Here
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: comes Tupac, I got Here's Eve forty, you got Spice one.
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: I'm looking at everybody, and I'm like, what am I doing?
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: And I wanted I just I wanted to be dope
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: as fuck.
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: And the ingredients to that to me was I had
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: to get into I gotta start telling some of this shit,
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: this the truth, right, you know what.
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: I mean I'm going through that's on my brain.
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: Yeah, And I moved myself and other people into that direction.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: You know, Bo was always because of why having issues
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: with the police. He always had a of a militant
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: thing going, you know, he was super ice Cube influenced,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: and so he had a little bit of that militant
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: thing going. And then I ended up politics popped into
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: my music because I was in a political pressure cooker. Also,
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: you're reading a lot a lot, yeah, and under attack
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: by the media and watching Time Warner, watching all these
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: cultural things and feeling stuff about it, and it started
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: pouring into my music.
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: And that was where me and Lynch diverted.
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: That went in different directly musically, Yeah, yeah, philosophically.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: For sure, you get out, you end up. Well, it's
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: crazy that your first strange album was last year, right, yeah?
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: It well, yeah, how big of a moment was it
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: for you to because Tech nine is somebody who was
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: probably just starting to get active when you went to prison,
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: because he was coming out to LA doing the wake
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: Up Show. I want to say, what was the soundtrack
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: he was on, Richie Gang related? Yeah, yeah, exactly, and
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: then this strange music thing comes and it's kind of
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: like a new version of what like black Market was
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: like in the early nineties. Said, and then he ends
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: up kind of becoming like the I mean not kind
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: of quite literally, like changing the game for independent artists
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: and the biggest independent rapper ever. How like aware and
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: hip are you to what text doing? I'm sure you're
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: hearing about it through Brian or through Brother Lynch, Like yeah,
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: but to get out connect with him, Like, how aware
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: were you of the Strange music I guess legacy that
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: was being built while you were incarcerated.
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: I watched the whole thing happen. I watched all of that.
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: I watched the when he popped up with devastatingly with questions.
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: He had already been through the quest thing. You know,
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: different groups he was a part of.
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: Earlier Exangelic and that's the whole era and like almost
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: like a similar thing where like we've seen Tech kind
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: of grow from being like the crazy guy with the
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: face paint and then like you know, kind of like
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: like he's kind of brought us into like who he
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: is a lot more over the l of the years.
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: So yeah, even while I was there, when I left
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: black Market, I would have wanted to be as strange.
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: I remember having an interaction with Dave Warner in like
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: two thousand and nine or twenty ten. I don't think
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: I forgave him for that until like twenty nineteen or
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: twenty eighteen, where he essentially said that minus being able
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: to tour and not being able to do videos, that
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: my music coming out on Strange Music wouldn't have been
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: He couldn't see the potential value in that. But that
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: he saw in terms of this had nothing to do
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: with dopeness, but had something to do with the inability
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: to finish it, which was true. You know from a
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: fantastical place in there. You don't know what you don't know,
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: and how much goes in it is and that was
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: I was big boys. Shit. I think what I was
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: doing was to keep my sanity. I was writing and
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: making music to keep my sanity. Is almost cute looking
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: back on it now, Shit, I wish I never recorded
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: because I could could record him. Now I got twenty
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: year old song on a Prayer and Hell my last album,
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: that is one of the dopest songs on THEREZ some
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: shit I wrote in oh two. It's like two songs
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: on there from two thousand and two and two thousand
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: and three, the life sentences and to whom it may concern,
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: And it's like I wish I had a held on
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: of that. But at the time Dave Warner had did.
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: His response to us was he didn't think that would
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: be something that we could could we could start the game,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: but couldn't finish it.
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: Yeah, interesting tour the touring aspect is.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: So important to yes, being in that machine. Now I
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: understand exactly that that was the literal truth at the time.
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: I think Dave was responsible responsible for strange music West.
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: He was working right under Traves, the man making the
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: decisions as strange music at the time regarding you know
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: anything that was happening mostly with the West Coast artists
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: and uh so Brian Shafting. Like two years later, it
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: gives me the deal with RBC, and you know, I'll
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: drop some music and stuff and I'm paying attention to
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: take a drive.
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: I see, I can see everything. It's my business.
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: I have my little football team and I'm watching the
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: bigger football teams, and like.
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: Do you get access to YouTube and like double XL
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: and all that shit in there, Like yeah, we get
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: double XL.
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: We had all the magazine so I could see Murder Dog.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: Like I'm twenty eleven, Me and Tech are on the
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: cover of the Murder Dog together, so like I'm he
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: has a Murder Dog magazine in his house with me
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: my face on it next to it, right, you know
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: what I mean. So like it was like that I
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: was aware. We were all aware of each other, and
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: we know who too's dope, so they knew I was dope.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: And then I come home and I think the June eleventh,
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, I fly to Kansas City, me and Lynch,
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: and it really started with a dispute between Lynch and
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: Tech that ended up kind of turning into a little
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: bit of back and forth a little bit, and people got.
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: Too excited about it.
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: I didn't like it. I got a habit of jump
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: in in front of bullets for Lynch, and I just
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: was like, I feel like everybody need to just mind
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: their business. If you got pomp pomps, you cheering for
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: potential Lynch and Tech nine beef, then I'm not fucking
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: with you no more. So I'm watching. I'm looking at
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: all of y'allf y'all doing. Let them to handle their
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: business and stay out of it. Because everybody wanted to
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: all of a sudden pile in on Lynch. And I'm like,
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: I just always I take phase on behalf of Lynch
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: my entire career. I've always done it. I've always been
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: the one either saying, hey man, that's my brother. You
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: know what I mean? They can't have cav Lynch ain't
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: want it. Ain't Lynch ain't trying to bother nobody, and
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: ain't nobody about to be bothering him. Were not going
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: for that, And so that's it just kind of I
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: did that, and Tex saw it, and he was like, hey,
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: I appreciate that, bro broh and we go see each
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: other man much love. And I was like, all right,
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: you know, I just acknowledged him, like I feel you
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: and thank you and blah blah blah. Because and so
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: I got Lynch a bag to go to KC. I
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: got a decent bag. We flew out, my brother Knox
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: with me, Eric. We all fly out there and me
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: and Lynch, dude, we go to the show. My phone
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: started blowing up, people like, man, Tech is trying to
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: get a hold of you. Ironically, all these crips I
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: call them technologe crips. How I know that about technologe crips,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: people will underestimate that Tech nowin got all these crips
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: and bloods that fuck with him for real.
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: And so I'm like, who the fuck is you know?
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: Man? You going to the barbecuters. The crips were throwing
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: the barbecue, you hear? And Tech one to note because
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: he's gonna pull up, and I was like, I don't know,
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: I'm tough them to call me or something or whatever.
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: I don't even believe this shit. So I'm in my suite.
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: I keep doing what I'm doing, and then Tris called me,
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: and I love Trids, so I was like, what's up, bro?
- 1:48:34Speaker 3: He's like, where are you going to eat?
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: And I was like, I'm about to hit this place
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: blah blah blah in the a little while, and Trick's like, cool,
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna pull up at fifteen. Tech could be there
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: in thirty. I was like, all right, so we all
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: mob over there. We sitting down chilling, and Tris walked
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: through the door and then boom, Tech walked up in
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: that motherfucker and he gave me.
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: He said, I told you I was going to see you.
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: Gave me a hug.
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: We sat down, had a meal, chopped it up, vibed out,
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: spitching bars and just you know, had fun, had a
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: good night. And he excused himself and he popped back
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: and I can hear him walking up like yeah, man,
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: really good people, really good energy man. And there I
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: just think you should meet him. And he hands me
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: the fall and it was Travis and uh, Trav's like,
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: what you're doing Monday? Man? And I was like, shit,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: whatever you want me to be doing Monday, you know,
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: because we were getting the fuck out of here. We
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: got the bag. We were like we're we're going to Vegas. Yeah,
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: and uh yeah, he was like all right, So Monday
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: we re changed our flights and shit and kicked it
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: that weekend and uh, that weekend changed my life. Man.
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: I met the mother and both my children that weekend. Wow,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: I met I met Tech nine. Because Trav wants us
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: to come Monday, I actually am running around Kansas City.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: I meet the mother and my children. I go to
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: that meeting with Travis blows my mind. We spent four
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: hours touring Strange music and still didn't see it all.
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: So to put that in perspective, he took us on
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: a tour of the facility. It took four hours and
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: we still didn't see all of the building. Right.
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: Still it's that big.
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: And so we're all like, okay, all right, you know,
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: and jump on the plane go back to Vegas. Like man,
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: it's just something to think about. And Tech came to Vegas,
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: flew out to see me. He really was doing him
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: in Vegas. But the homies started calling me this nigga.
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: So people starting to see pictures and shit of me
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: and Tech together, and so this nigga's walking through the mall,
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: this girl and my phone start blowing up. People like, man,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: your boy just walking around them all out here, like
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: you know, and we don't motherfuckers don't know what to do.
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: What should we do? I was like, just make sure
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: he's straight. So I called Tech was like, hey, man,
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: but like this is the fifth time somebody told me
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: you was walking around them. All niggas could call me
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: one hundred times. They could call niggas with that shouldn't
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: be called. So like, I'm at the homies just gonna
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: follow you around them all. So if you see some
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: niggas that they with me and it's good. And he
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: was like okay, he's like I was wondering about that. Man,
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: These crip niggas kept looking at me. Yeah, he was
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: in Vegas, and so the hommies stayed with him, and
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: you know, we just kind of hung out on their phone's,
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: minding their business while he shopped with his girl and
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: got him out of there, and then I ended up
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: pulling up at the Aria. We hung out, had a
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: great meal, and you know, I did some shit for
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: the birthday, for his lady's birthday.
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: I go back, he goes out.
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: Trave flies in tech calls me, hey, man, my partner's
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: coming to Vegas to do some business. But he's there
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: to see you. He's like, I don't care what he says.
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: Travis came to Vegas to see you, bro. He's like,
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: tell him what you need, tell him how you need it.
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: Let's get this done. I need you with me. I
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: was like, all right, cool, So sure enough, Trav lands.
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: He comes to my building, he sits, he sits down,
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: talks with my business partners. I put him with the
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: city manager, the deputy city manager to talk about a
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: few things that we're doing in Vegas, and we had
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: all kind of shit going on. So Trav left all
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: of that feeling like I love what you're doing. He
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: talked to me. He told me, I love what you're doing,
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: and you're gonna pull this off, but it's gonna take
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: you longer than it needs too. I want to fast
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: forward you. I want to hit fast forward over for you.
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: So let's it's all right. Cool boom text sing me
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: a song. I gave other artist semi songs. I ended
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: up getting the Asonine Tour and drav sat me down.
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: Boom Boom signed my deal. You know, he went back
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: and forth the lawyer. Boom got my contract the way
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: it needed to be went, did the Asonin tour, got
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: my chain at at Red Rocks in front of ten
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: thousand people. Man crazy on a stage. Michael Jackson been
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: on the Beatles.
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: You know, one of the most legendary venues in the world.
- 1:52:33Speaker 3: Insane.
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: So like all of that happened, and yeah, it's just
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: been it's just been a beautiful thing. So that weekend
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: and like the twelfth of June twenty one, I ended
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: up taking Lynch to a meeting until we went to
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: jack Stackson. We had a big old table and take
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: all these people showed up and so come to find out,
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: you know, Tech's Sun is a huge X rated and
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: brother Lynch, I'm fan. We're his favorite rappers. Crazy, it's nuts.
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: So Tech's son came other members of his family. We
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: all broke bread, bro Knox and Eric all of them
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: with me and let you Tech out to discuss They shit,
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Niggas gave each other a
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: Hug said they loved each other and you know, and
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: that was how we resolved that. And Tech just really
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: respected that shit. He was like, man, that was some
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: dope ass shit. He's like, I really appreciate that. And
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: we've just been thugging it out on some g shit
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: ever since. I love him. I love technok ain't gonna lie.
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: That's my dogg guy. Man, that's my dude. I fuck
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: with him and I fuck with Travis. The long way
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: Drive to me is a genius. I've been in the
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: room with a lot of people, you know, who do
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: think well, and this motherfucker is a genius.
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: Dave Warner is a genius.
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: You know, Brian Shafting, this group of people who all
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: kind of circulate each other, Mark Markoff and you know,
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: it's a bunch of them and there's some brilliance involved
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: in that shit.
- 1:53:55Speaker 3: And I just marvel at it.
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: And Travis stood on ten toes about me, and I
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: really appreciate that about him, and my relationship with technis
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: phenomenal and I love it.
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: Man, can you I want to talk about Sack for
- 1:54:08Speaker 2: a sec because I have a great relationship with Mazzi,
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: who I know has had friction with certain artists over
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: the years. I think he might have friction with Brother
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: Lynch at a certain point in time. I know he
- 1:54:20Speaker 2: had some friction with Cebo.
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I put that. I didn't allow that to the
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: Lynch thing. I was like, nah, man, you know I
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: talked to Lynch.
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: Well, I know Manzi to be like a great guy,
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: and he's got a great team like Dave dave O,
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: and you know, he's one of the new faces of
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: the West Coast. And he's obviously a very talented guy.
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: Have you guys had any opportunity to conversate.
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: Or we've had interactions I sent him.
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: I remember after that thing happened where it was like,
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: I'm I think the comment was, I'm funking with Cibo,
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: I'm funking with a brother Lynch, I'm funking with an
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: x rit it and you know, it pitsed some people off,
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: It ruffled some feathers that he worded it that way,
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: and uh that was kind of me and ce Bo's
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: disagreement that we ended up having was really over the
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: fact that I stood on what I believed in regard
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: to what my intention to say.
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: Well, yeah, and that also like that's how he talks like,
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: I don't I don't think. I don't think that was
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: meant in a disrespectful way.
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: It was not. It was not meant a disrespectful way
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: in my humble opinion. And I remember saying like, I'm
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: on Facebook. I jumped on Facebook. I'm in the pen.
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: But I go on Facebook and say, hey, man, uh,
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: is it possible for me to be funking with a
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: kid who might have been five when I left the streets,
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: if he was alive at all. We've never been on
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: the yard, So can it be how is it possible
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: I'm funking? Or was it him? If he prefaced this
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: statement with just like I gotta respect what they did
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: and their genom for their era, they gotta respect what
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: I did. In mind, so I felt like he was
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: identifying as standard because the question was essentially why was
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: he so dupe? And his answer was because we're dope.
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: That was what he was fucking saying. And that's how
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: I took it. And so when I said that I
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: know Mazi, even with all his people and who could
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: feel something about that, he were posted reposted what I
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: said and threw one hundreds across it. I said, Mazzi
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: know every word in Macafam Malama Mazzi's first album Covers
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: is honored a tribute to my first album cover. First
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: time they saw him with the fingers to the head.
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: What is that guy? Yet?
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: We have it man, We've just the DM exchange.
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: I told him what I thought about.
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: I told him about how I was the most disrespectful
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: rapper in the history of Sacramento. So you have a
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: blood dominated city who had itself being represented by crip
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: rappers for nationally yeah, international identity.
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: Yeah it was hey cebo X rated brother Lynch.
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, Tiloni were the predominant. And I was super
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: disrespectful in my music regard to other sets and the
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: Psychoactive Exorcists. It was very much gangee. And then I
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: got to unforgiven. And I remember I had a conversation
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: with a brother for Oak Park who told me, Man,
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: we love your music, ex if you would let us,
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: if you would let us, Man, we'll slap your shit
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: if you would let us. And so I was like, damn, So,
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: who is y'all new booty nass niggas, you know what
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: I mean. I'm like, we're twenty fourth Street criit. But
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: even Blood Niggas God Does and my shitting stud niggas
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: in the South Side and slam X righty local. When
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: they all riding, I started kind of allowing people to
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: be able to bump my music if they wanted to.
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: It was a deliberate thing, and so I kind of
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: I dropped that on MASI y'all just said, I feel
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: like I didn't have anybody to tell me this, but
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: a lot more people could be receptive to your music
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: if you let them. And if you can not do
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: these things or if I could have not done those things,
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: it would have done this for my career. And so
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: that was really the.
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: Last I think he's did a good job of doing
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: that too. Real. Yeah, I think so because I think, like,
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: you know, that's one thing about him, like just knowing
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: him as well as I do, just like his personal evolutions.
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: I met him in twenty seventeen, right, and it was
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: like he used to come to the radio station on
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: like fifty dudes. Yeah, and now when he comes he's
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: got a tight crew, he's about his business, he stays
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: out the way, you know what I'm saying, Like, yeah, man,
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: So I just think it would be dope to have
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: you guys have some sort of shit, do a song together.
- 1:58:19Speaker 3: Man, it's inevitable.
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: What I would. I don't I think music. I think
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: music is a secondary thing. I would, and I'm not
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: opposed to that being an outcome of the other thing.
- 1:58:33Speaker 3: But if it need to just be.
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: An organic dialogue or organic because right now, my whole
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: neighborhood is united, all of it. We got some stuff
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: we gotta deal with, but me cbo Lynch, Looney Nutty
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: or all together, and that block movement project is gonna happen.
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: That's happening. And so from the perspective of what's best.
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: For Sacramento, like, come on, bro, we can't celebrate the
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: nigga brought a Grammy home. He brought a Grammy to Sacramento.
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: You can't fake goosebumps, bro. But like a nigga from
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: where we farm when won a Super Bowl while we going,
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: I gotta act like I didn't just I don't think
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: that's dope, Like, get the fuck out of here. The
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: Black Panthers soundtrack was to me as an MC from
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: my hometown and a OG from my hometown. That nigga
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: being on a Black Panther soundtrack, I thought that was
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: dope for sure, him having Kendrick acknowledge him while he
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: just one fucking rap album of the Year on the
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: stage at the Grammys. I was watching that with a
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: burrito and I was like, oh shit, Like I thought
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: that was dope. This is what the fuck? What the fuck?
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: Are we doing a bunch of rappers rapping for each
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: other in the hood or are we trying to penetrate
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: the pantheon? Are we trying to get to Mount Rushmore?
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: Are we trying to get to Mount Olympics. I just
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: had Rock Kim post my shit, right, fuck we doing?
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: And so I feel like if we can't get to
- 1:59:56Speaker 1: the point of just even being able to say that
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: human being from Sacramento, California just did some shit for
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: us that happened really for us, that was we did that.
- 2:00:07Speaker 1: Sacramento just smacked some hip hop shit. We just did
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: some milestone type shit. I think you got it. That
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: gotta be celebrated, And I think politics prevent a lot
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: of things from being celebrated.
- 2:00:18Speaker 2: That should be all over California.
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: Indeed, indeed, but especially in Sacramento. And Cedric Singleton had
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: a relationship and I don't not for me to say
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: what their relationship continues to be. But from what Cedric
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: has communicated to me, he loves Mazi. So for Cedric,
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: the potential of like Cedric was the first one like
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: hey man, you know I don't want you. I don't
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: want you doing none of that. And he told me,
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: you know that's my baby boy man, just like i've
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: he's Cedric is runs oak Park. He not runs oak Park,
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: but he came from oak Park, you know what I mean?
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: He runs red and is if he defaults and you say,
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: it's smoke and we'll do you look around, see who's
- 2:01:00Speaker 1: gonna pop up for Cedric. It's gonna be it's gonna
- 2:01:04Speaker 1: be a lot of old Park and it's gonna be
- 2:01:06Speaker 1: a lot of I'm gonna give it. I'm gonna be there.
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: I'm a care and so we share a godfather. It's
- 2:01:12Speaker 1: like Cedric saw j Prince in a way, you know
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: what I mean, he created him and Meek Meek is
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: our here yo, Cedric saw Shug not, you know. So
- 2:01:22Speaker 1: it's like we're not gonna play about that. The og
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: heart would be broken if I was on some function
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: in relation to Mazi.
- 2:01:28Speaker 3: So I think it got played the way it got played.
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: I've seen recent interviews where bol talked to Court about,
- 2:01:35Speaker 1: you know how he felt like he just felt like
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: it was a little bit too much and not enough
- 2:01:39Speaker 1: respect involved in it. Everybody gotta speak for themselves. But
- 2:01:43Speaker 1: what I think is the healthiest thing for Sacramento, California,
- 2:01:48Speaker 1: and the healthiest thing for the kids watching right now,
- 2:01:50Speaker 1: hoping that they got an opportunity to give get involved
- 2:01:54Speaker 1: and be the next one to pop this ship off,
- 2:01:57Speaker 1: that they know that they're gonna get this of the ogs.
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: They gotta know that La Crips and Bloods get on
- 2:02:04Speaker 1: stage October of twenty eleven and pass a torch to
- 2:02:08Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar who cries on stage and it's Snoop Dogg.
- 2:02:12Speaker 1: Corrupt the game, DJ Quick, Doctor Dre. They did that
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: in twenty eleven.
- 2:02:19Speaker 2: Fast forward to Pop Out happens. Everybody's on stage.
- 2:02:22Speaker 1: Man, we ain't understanding what the fuck we're doing? Is
- 2:02:25Speaker 1: that Willie Lynch shit. It's a lot of reasons why, bro,
- 2:02:28Speaker 1: But I'm like, what are we doing? Man? If I
- 2:02:31Speaker 1: feel very strongly about that, what the fuck we doing? Bro?
- 2:02:34Speaker 1: We're not gonna We're not gonna we gonna hate when
- 2:02:37Speaker 1: it and it's real reasons. It's real reasons, so like
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: to the indefense of even the homies, it's real reasons
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: for bitterness on both sides, you know. But it's like,
- 2:02:46Speaker 1: if we're gonna wait for who who, if we're gonna
- 2:02:50Speaker 1: tip for tatted, this can't stop.
- 2:02:53Speaker 2: It'll never stop.
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: It can't stop because who's scoring as it's forever And
- 2:02:57Speaker 1: some shit is like you know, some shit people just
- 2:02:59Speaker 1: can't get over ain't gonna never get over. But in
- 2:03:02Speaker 1: terms of hip hop what it means to the culture,
- 2:03:05Speaker 1: I think a se Bow and a Masi having a
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: conversation could be healthy for the culture. I think, you
- 2:03:10Speaker 1: know myself, brother Lynchong, I think that this is the
- 2:03:13Speaker 1: type of shit that I would like to organically occur,
- 2:03:16Speaker 1: you know, with input from other people. But I think
- 2:03:18Speaker 1: it would be devastating to the psychology of people who
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: are waiting for their turn. I think it would be
- 2:03:23Speaker 1: beautiful to inform them that they could choose better pathways
- 2:03:27Speaker 1: than we did and and be supported. Maybe you we
- 2:03:30Speaker 1: maybe we stand on the stage and we're giving the
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: torch to the next motherfucker, you know what I mean.
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: For sure, Yeah, I think it's necessary. You're a new album.
- 2:03:38Speaker 2: By the time this comes out, it'll be out.
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: Yep. You know.
- 2:03:42Speaker 2: The artwork's dope, Sit in Heaven, Thank You, your second
- 2:03:45Speaker 2: album on strange. Yeah, what's the oldest song on this
- 2:03:48Speaker 2: album that you write.
- 2:03:52Speaker 1: You're in jail? Wow, that's a good question. Twenty four tracks?
- 2:03:56Speaker 1: What do I got on there?
- 2:03:57Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 2:03:59Speaker 2: So it's all new ship, new perspective, if you have
- 2:04:01Speaker 2: a whole.
- 2:04:01Speaker 1: New Can't Hold Us Down? I wrote can't hold Us
- 2:04:06Speaker 1: Down in the pen about nine. I wrote that in
- 2:04:09Speaker 1: two thousand and nine in the pen, so that my
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: my three track three, So track three was nine in
- 2:04:19Speaker 1: two thousand and nine in the penitentiary.
- 2:04:22Speaker 2: Can you kind of give me? I mean you say
- 2:04:24Speaker 2: twenty three tracks, twenty four twenty four tracks, that's damn
- 2:04:28Speaker 2: near double album twenty two Street, which is.
- 2:04:30Speaker 1: Twenty twenty four exits the twenty fourth letter I did
- 2:04:33Speaker 1: twenty four years before All Earth Coming Home?
- 2:04:36Speaker 2: Was this on purpose?
- 2:04:36Speaker 1: Vers song is twenty four hundreds? Yeah, for sure, that's fire.
- 2:04:40Speaker 2: That What about this album? Because I feel like, you know,
- 2:04:45Speaker 2: putting out this is your second album in a year
- 2:04:48Speaker 2: almost right year and a half.
- 2:04:50Speaker 1: No, it just feels that way because it's been NonStop,
- 2:04:52Speaker 1: Like I did, me and Tech, I cracking on as
- 2:04:56Speaker 1: and nine and then you know, I had some splashes
- 2:04:59Speaker 1: that happened.
- 2:05:00Speaker 2: The fucking music video you guys did that was like
- 2:05:01Speaker 2: in the middle of the fucking sand.
- 2:05:03Speaker 1: That's the one where I found was off parole, still
- 2:05:06Speaker 1: right here. That shit was crazy.
- 2:05:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a beautiful experience.
- 2:05:10Speaker 1: Man. That was the day I got off parole. We
- 2:05:12Speaker 1: were filming with March first to twenty twenty two, me
- 2:05:16Speaker 1: and Tech together making that video crazy. Yeah, so you
- 2:05:19Speaker 1: got that big moment that wasn't from an X rated album.
- 2:05:22Speaker 1: And now my album starts coming right behind Tech because
- 2:05:25Speaker 1: I'm in the cycle where it's almost I'm almost always
- 2:05:29Speaker 1: sandwiched between what Tech is doing right, and that's you know,
- 2:05:32Speaker 1: I don't know if that's some shit him and Travis
- 2:05:34Speaker 1: plotted on, which I would think that none of this
- 2:05:36Speaker 1: shit is an accident, right, So, but but here comes
- 2:05:39Speaker 1: Tech and they kind of always have me right behind that.
- 2:05:42Speaker 1: So it's like race cars and I'm in his drag,
- 2:05:45Speaker 1: you know what I mean, And no, Diddy, I mean,
- 2:05:48Speaker 1: I mean it's still wind and so yeah, you got
- 2:05:54Speaker 1: still right here. You get to my album Stratosphere with
- 2:05:57Speaker 1: me in Tech and then here's Tech coming back on
- 2:05:59Speaker 1: Blue and I got knocked with him and Joiner Lucas
- 2:06:02Speaker 1: and Conway, and then my album drops, you know what
- 2:06:06Speaker 1: I mean. And then here comes Tech on Nuthouse and
- 2:06:10Speaker 1: I'm on there. And then here comes my first single,
- 2:06:14Speaker 1: Here comes roll Call for Collabos. I'm on their two
- 2:06:17Speaker 1: point five million views, two million streams. Here comes my
- 2:06:22Speaker 1: second single, King Crook rass Cast. Here comes another Tech single,
- 2:06:27Speaker 1: I'm on their text Collabo's album drop, I got three
- 2:06:31Speaker 1: songs on there, rock Him drops there, and then here
- 2:06:34Speaker 1: comes my album. So yeah, it's like I never even
- 2:06:37Speaker 1: though it's just one album in that calendar year, because
- 2:06:41Speaker 1: we're over a year since my last album came out
- 2:06:44Speaker 1: June second of twenty three, and uh, but I just
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: was never not there. I've been there the whole time.
- 2:06:51Speaker 2: Would you it feels like your life story should be
- 2:06:56Speaker 2: a Netflix show or a movie or something. Yeah, I
- 2:06:59Speaker 2: think you need it right book. I'm sure you've probably
- 2:07:01Speaker 2: probably started. I feel like, if you're in jail long enough,
- 2:07:03Speaker 2: you've started to write a book.
- 2:07:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you got that. I like that. Take your eye
- 2:07:07Speaker 1: you like. I feel like I got to know you real.
- 2:07:09Speaker 2: Quick, Like I feel like you got to at least
- 2:07:11Speaker 2: half a book finish.
- 2:07:12Speaker 1: I actually have three, so I have. I broke my
- 2:07:15Speaker 1: autobiography into three parts, and so there's the life all
- 2:07:19Speaker 1: the way up until I think it was where I
- 2:07:22Speaker 1: stopped two thousand and two, and then there's twenty two
- 2:07:27Speaker 1: to twenty twelve, and then there was twenty twelve, and
- 2:07:30Speaker 1: I didn't know where to fuck the end. And I
- 2:07:33Speaker 1: found out about sending bill to sixty and I was like,
- 2:07:37Speaker 1: it's time for me to I put that stuff away
- 2:07:40Speaker 1: and I started working on music still, but mostly was
- 2:07:43Speaker 1: focused on getting out. So I spent six years, basically
- 2:07:47Speaker 1: four years the equivalent of a college education, learning about
- 2:07:50Speaker 1: what to do with board and how to do it board,
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: and then two years in addition to that to get out.
- 2:07:57Speaker 1: And that's how you get that twenty four years and
- 2:07:58Speaker 1: me finding out knew I was going home. So I
- 2:08:02Speaker 1: went from hopelessness to hope to maybe to thinking to
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: believing I was getting out to.
- 2:08:07Speaker 3: Twenty twenty, where I knew it was happening. I was
- 2:08:11Speaker 3: gotten neew, I was.
- 2:08:11Speaker 1: Going to Yo.
- 2:08:13Speaker 2: We've like politically, I'm certainly in the middle, I'm probably
- 2:08:17Speaker 2: I don't know who I'm voting for, be honest, But
- 2:08:20Speaker 2: there is this narrative that Kamala Harris locked up a
- 2:08:22Speaker 2: lot of people in California. Yeah, but she also co
- 2:08:25Speaker 2: sponsored the bill that freed you.
- 2:08:28Speaker 1: Her name is Incentive Bill two sixty and then as
- 2:08:30Speaker 1: attorney general, she could have fought that and so she
- 2:08:35Speaker 1: you know, it's the Democratic Party pushing if people don't
- 2:08:37Speaker 1: think that she had a hand in that, and that
- 2:08:39Speaker 1: the Attorney general just was like, oh Okay, they're gonna
- 2:08:42Speaker 1: let all the juveniles with life out and didn't defend it,
- 2:08:45Speaker 1: didn't fight that at all, just like let it come in.
- 2:08:48Speaker 2: Well, I'm just curious, like from your perspective, somebody who's
- 2:08:50Speaker 2: like well versed in the law and like obviously did
- 2:08:52Speaker 2: a ton of research on what was going on politically
- 2:08:55Speaker 2: in California that would affect people going getting freed or
- 2:08:58Speaker 2: going in Do you feel like she is the hell
- 2:09:03Speaker 2: she gets for the amount of people she quote unquote
- 2:09:05Speaker 2: locked up? Is a fair affair criticism or do you
- 2:09:08Speaker 2: feel like it's overstated.
- 2:09:09Speaker 1: I think it's overstated. It's being exaggerated. Was she responsible
- 2:09:13Speaker 1: for locking people up? She was the district attorney.
- 2:09:15Speaker 2: Well, everybody who's the district attorney's going to be responsible.
- 2:09:17Speaker 1: It didn't matter who right, right, And it's the district attorney,
- 2:09:20Speaker 1: elected politician, district attorney in the courtroom and all these
- 2:09:25Speaker 1: cases like come on, man, So with those of us
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: who've been to court, know that the district attorney's not
- 2:09:31Speaker 1: in here.
- 2:09:31Speaker 3: It's it ADA or a DDA.
- 2:09:33Speaker 1: It's a deputy district attorney or assistant district attorney in
- 2:09:36Speaker 1: the room prosecuting the case. The figurehead district attorney that's
- 2:09:40Speaker 1: running this office doesn't necessarily have nothing to do with
- 2:09:43Speaker 1: all of that. But like, far be it for me
- 2:09:45Speaker 1: to defend a district attorney. They locking people to fuck up,
- 2:09:49Speaker 1: because that's what the fuck they do, you know what
- 2:09:50Speaker 1: I mean.
- 2:09:51Speaker 2: So, I mean it's an economy too that comes with
- 2:09:53Speaker 2: all of this. There is free labor, I mean, cheap labor,
- 2:09:56Speaker 2: whatever you want to call. It's once you start peeling
- 2:09:59Speaker 2: the slavery, it's like, yeah, it's what it.
- 2:10:01Speaker 1: Is, right.
- 2:10:01Speaker 2: I mean, there's privatized prisons all over the country. There's
- 2:10:04Speaker 2: a lobby for that. Yeah, it's good business to put
- 2:10:07Speaker 2: more people in prison.
- 2:10:09Speaker 1: And then you know, you end up in a circumstance
- 2:10:12Speaker 1: where I say, if I can look at myself as say,
- 2:10:15Speaker 1: I went from a seventeen year old game banger who
- 2:10:18Speaker 1: thought it was perfectly appropriate to enter people's dwellings attempting
- 2:10:21Speaker 1: to kill people, and then by the time I'm twenty five,
- 2:10:25Speaker 1: I changed my life. And then at the age of
- 2:10:27Speaker 1: thirty year old, thirty years old, I'm doing something completely different.
- 2:10:31Speaker 1: By forty I got an AA degree and I'm majoring
- 2:10:36Speaker 1: in psychology. I'm still locked up on my houmet and
- 2:10:41Speaker 1: I'm ten million miles away from who that kid was, right,
- 2:10:44Speaker 1: And I think we like to just keep people static.
- 2:10:47Speaker 1: So it's like, yeah, if you look at the whole
- 2:10:48Speaker 1: career and see where it started changing, where did she
- 2:10:53Speaker 1: start doing the programs for people who was coming home?
- 2:10:55Speaker 3: Because there's plenty of information.
- 2:10:57Speaker 1: Available that she was actually helping people will come home successfully.
- 2:11:02Speaker 1: So it's like, it's hard if you feel like the
- 2:11:04Speaker 1: people stabbing you are the ones yelling at you to
- 2:11:07Speaker 1: stop bleeding, it's hard to say thank you when they
- 2:11:09Speaker 1: stop stabbing you, right, like, thank you so much. So
- 2:11:13Speaker 1: it's hard to say thank you, Kamala Harris for not
- 2:11:19Speaker 1: stabbing us anymore. You know what, I mean, so it's
- 2:11:22Speaker 1: a lot of people hesitant. But the truth of the
- 2:11:25Speaker 1: matter is that that that party came into power when
- 2:11:29Speaker 1: Jerry Brown got elected, and we saw immediate change in
- 2:11:32Speaker 1: that environment. The grievance system, how to follow a complaint
- 2:11:36Speaker 1: about it, something that you had going on. It needed
- 2:11:38Speaker 1: to be dealt with real stuff, family physics, so you
- 2:11:41Speaker 1: could go see your mother, the funeral arrangements and you
- 2:11:45Speaker 1: want to real things. The processes that got implemented from
- 2:11:49Speaker 1: between twenty eleven to being sworn in to twelve twenty thirteen, you.
- 2:11:55Speaker 2: Saw the real change.
- 2:11:56Speaker 1: We literally saw that shit like forty eight hours, go
- 2:12:00Speaker 1: to sleep, wake up and it was like damn, and
- 2:12:02Speaker 1: then go to sleep and wake up again and be
- 2:12:03Speaker 1: like what the fuck different? The forms were different, the
- 2:12:07Speaker 1: way the police training was different, the way they spoke
- 2:12:10Speaker 1: to you was different. When the leadership changed, they fucking changed.
- 2:12:13Speaker 1: We saw it.
- 2:12:14Speaker 3: And so I don't know.
- 2:12:16Speaker 1: I'm one of those people who understand that the people
- 2:12:18Speaker 1: who caused the bleeding stopped the bleedings. And you know,
- 2:12:23Speaker 1: I feel like the Republican Party, Pete Wilson had control
- 2:12:26Speaker 1: of California, Pete Wilson and then put in the three
- 2:12:30Speaker 1: strikes after the Tripoli class, they add a three percent
- 2:12:34Speaker 1: parole grant rate when they took over, I think out
- 2:12:38Speaker 1: of twenty four years to four of demo of Republican
- 2:12:41Speaker 1: power in the state of California, going back as far
- 2:12:44Speaker 1: as Duke Maging to Grey Davis finally getting in there.
- 2:12:49Speaker 1: So Grey gets four years, gets re elected, get recalled,
- 2:12:53Speaker 1: and they gave us determinated right. So in terms of
- 2:12:57Speaker 1: like who he was stabbing us, there's a question about
- 2:13:00Speaker 1: who was doing the stab it because the people who
- 2:13:02Speaker 1: stop the bleeding aren't necessarily the people who were doing
- 2:13:05Speaker 1: the stab And so I think that's the difference for
- 2:13:08Speaker 1: me in my perspective of understanding that I want the
- 2:13:12Speaker 1: person willing to do the most for the people who
- 2:13:14Speaker 1: are still in the situations that I was in.
- 2:13:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think like at the end of
- 2:13:18Speaker 2: the day, like if there's ever humans in our society,
- 2:13:23Speaker 2: they get treated like second class citizens. It is people
- 2:13:25Speaker 2: who are incarcerated, it's felons. Even when they get out,
- 2:13:28Speaker 2: they gotta wear that. It's like a scarlet letter they
- 2:13:31Speaker 2: got to wear every time they go do a fucking
- 2:13:32Speaker 2: job interview. And now former president is.
- 2:13:37Speaker 1: An ex felling ain't that something.
- 2:13:38Speaker 2: Ain't that shit crazy?
- 2:13:39Speaker 1: Ain't that crazy?
- 2:13:40Speaker 2: Whether or not you think he should be a whole
- 2:13:43Speaker 2: other discussion, right right, but technically he is.
- 2:13:46Speaker 1: They're running for and running for the biggest job in
- 2:13:49Speaker 1: the United States of America, in the world, the biggest
- 2:13:51Speaker 1: job in the world.
- 2:13:52Speaker 3: But somebody would have felt they want to go work.
- 2:13:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and look, I like, I don't think you should
- 2:13:56Speaker 2: be a felon. I think they went after him like
- 2:13:58Speaker 2: for sure, but he's still felon. So it's like now
- 2:14:02Speaker 2: it's like, hey, guys, like weish really because I just
- 2:14:04Speaker 2: feel like putting that shit on. I mean, obviously, if
- 2:14:07Speaker 2: you own a business and you want to do your
- 2:14:09Speaker 2: own background check before you hire somebody, that's on you.
- 2:14:11Speaker 2: But like, I feel like that whole that box that
- 2:14:14Speaker 2: you got to check on the application. Have you ever
- 2:14:16Speaker 2: been convicted of a felony? It's just as soon as
- 2:14:18Speaker 2: you hit yes, you're fucked. You're not getting the job.
- 2:14:21Speaker 1: And now Gavin new Some gets rid of that too.
- 2:14:23Speaker 2: For us, I think, man, well, Gavin news Some is
- 2:14:27Speaker 2: a fucking chameleon.
- 2:14:28Speaker 1: Bro.
- 2:14:29Speaker 2: Yes, he's a fucking lizard person.
- 2:14:31Speaker 3: For sure.
- 2:14:33Speaker 2: He will do whatever he has to do to hold
- 2:14:36Speaker 2: on to that power. He's a wild boy. Man that
- 2:14:40Speaker 2: gave is a wild boy.
- 2:14:42Speaker 1: Hey man, you know, it's an interesting world, for sure.
- 2:14:45Speaker 1: I think that man, A lot of people have to
- 2:14:47Speaker 1: make decisions based on what they think is gonna be
- 2:14:51Speaker 1: gonna have the best outcome for as many people as
- 2:14:54Speaker 1: possible as possibly fair. That's really what it comes down to.
- 2:14:57Speaker 1: And I want people in my former circumstance is to
- 2:15:00Speaker 1: have a legitimate opportunity to get their laws together, rehabilitate,
- 2:15:05Speaker 1: get out, be productive in the country. We're the only
- 2:15:08Speaker 1: developed country left in the world that actually takes citizenship
- 2:15:13Speaker 1: from people like you can't vote anymore, right, not being
- 2:15:16Speaker 1: able to vote, your rights agains, search and seizure, your
- 2:15:22Speaker 1: constitutional rights actually get taken from you and you essentially
- 2:15:27Speaker 1: almost can't get them back. Whereas anywhere if you go
- 2:15:30Speaker 1: to Germany, Germany out pacing us in this regard, you
- 2:15:34Speaker 1: get in trouble, you get incarcerated, you get rehabilitated, and
- 2:15:38Speaker 1: they reintegrate you into society, so you're fully restored, and
- 2:15:43Speaker 1: they're saying, go be a member of society, integrate, participate
- 2:15:48Speaker 1: in the game. Play the game. We're gonna teach you
- 2:15:50Speaker 1: what the game is. Maybe you didn't know, this is
- 2:15:53Speaker 1: what the game is. We get a good education, you
- 2:15:56Speaker 1: got a job, maybe you build a business. That's your choice,
- 2:16:00Speaker 1: but these are the options. And you go and integrate
- 2:16:03Speaker 1: and get your money and take care of your family
- 2:16:05Speaker 1: and mind your business, and that's it. And our country
- 2:16:09Speaker 1: we get you into our system because our criminal justice
- 2:16:12Speaker 1: system was created to replace the loss of economic power.
- 2:16:17Speaker 1: They got a slavery which was not abolished, it was modified,
- 2:16:23Speaker 1: and slavery is hereby abolished ironically in these United States
- 2:16:26Speaker 1: of America, except it's punished for punishment for those duly
- 2:16:29Speaker 1: convicted of a crime, not felingy, not misdemean.
- 2:16:33Speaker 2: No, it's just been rebranded for sure.
- 2:16:35Speaker 1: Yeah, they changed slavery from working in the field, you know,
- 2:16:40Speaker 1: and now you can grow itams and spirituals. To any
- 2:16:43Speaker 1: of you poor motherfuckers. You wanted to fight over this,
- 2:16:47Speaker 1: You motherfuckers wanted to fight about it. You wanted some
- 2:16:49Speaker 1: of this, then any of you, you poor motherfuckers, then
- 2:16:53Speaker 1: can come on over there, go commit a crime, and
- 2:16:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you fifty million reasons to do it too,
- 2:16:57Speaker 1: because this is you're hungry out here, and this shit
- 2:16:59Speaker 1: is expensive. It's crazy right now, and you can't get
- 2:17:01Speaker 1: a job. Vagrancy loss. This machine was literally created to
- 2:17:06Speaker 1: supplement or to replace money that America was losing as
- 2:17:09Speaker 1: a result of the so called abolition of slavery. They
- 2:17:13Speaker 1: created another labor force to go do work. There was
- 2:17:15Speaker 1: no proud man that wanted to go the white your
- 2:17:18Speaker 1: poorest white man was too proud to go pick cotton
- 2:17:21Speaker 1: right and not picking a fucking cotton. Fuck you think
- 2:17:24Speaker 1: this is so who's gonna do it right? So we
- 2:17:27Speaker 1: gotta put you motherfuckers back in jail. I'll put you
- 2:17:29Speaker 1: in jail, and now I can put you back in
- 2:17:31Speaker 1: the field.
- 2:17:31Speaker 2: Shit's crazy.
- 2:17:32Speaker 1: It's simple.
