- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome back to the program. In
- 0:03Speaker 1: this episode, we're headed back up to Moscow and we're
- 0:05Speaker 1: going to continue taking a look at the experts behind
- 0:09Speaker 1: the case against Kohlberger. And in this episode, we're picking
- 0:12Speaker 1: back up where we left off with Eric Seat and
- 0:16Speaker 1: his report. Case summary. On November 13th, 2022, Moscow, Idaho
- 0:21Speaker 1: police officers were contacted by friends of the residents of
- 0:25Speaker 1: a multi-bedroom house at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Officers discovered Zanna Kernodel and Ethan Chapin in a bedroom
- 0:34Speaker 1: on the second level of the residence. Upon further search,
- 0:38Speaker 1: officers discovered Kaylee Gonsalves and Madison Mogan in a bedroom
- 0:42Speaker 1: on the third level of the residence. No medical intervention
- 0:45Speaker 1: was attempted. Autopsies All autopsies were performed by Chief Medical
- 0:51Speaker 1: Examiner and Forensic Pathologist Veena Singh at the Spokane County,
- 0:56Speaker 1: Washington office of the Medical Examiner. And this next part
- 0:59Speaker 1: just goes over the autopsies again, so we'll skip that
- 1:02Speaker 1: and we'll go right to observations. Exterior of residence. 1.
- 1:07Speaker 1: The building at 1122 King Road, Moscow, Idaho is a
- 1:10Speaker 1: multi-level house with six bedrooms. 2. Bedrooms are located on
- 1:14Speaker 1: the first floor as one enters from the parking area
- 1:17Speaker 1: depicted in ISP 4519. And if you click on the
- 1:22Speaker 1: link inside of the description box, you'll see all these
- 1:25Speaker 1: pictures as well. The front entrance door depicted between the
- 1:30Speaker 1: silver vehicle and the blue vehicle in the image is
- 1:32Speaker 1: located on the north side of the building. 2. There
- 1:35Speaker 1: are two ways to access the second level of the residence.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Either by entering the door on the north side of
- 1:41Speaker 1: the building depicted in ISP 4519 and then traveling up
- 1:46Speaker 1: a staircase from the first floor up to the second floor,
- 1:49Speaker 1: or by entering directly via a sliding glass door located
- 1:53Speaker 1: at the back south side of the residence. This sliding
- 1:57Speaker 1: glass door on the south side of the building is
- 1:59Speaker 1: depicted in ISP 4554 and enters directly into the kitchen
- 2:05Speaker 1: on the second level. This level also includes a living
- 2:08Speaker 1: area with a sofa and beer pong table, a bathroom,
- 2:12Speaker 1: the bedroom of Zanna Kernodel on the west end of
- 2:14Speaker 1: the building, and the bedroom of an additional resident on
- 2:17Speaker 1: the east of the building. Third Level Bedroom 3. The
- 2:22Speaker 1: uppermost level of the residence is accessible through via an
- 2:25Speaker 1: internal stairway from the second level and contains two bedrooms.
- 2:29Speaker 1: One bedroom on the third level was reportedly assigned to
- 2:32Speaker 1: Kaylee Gonsalves and the other bedroom was assigned to Madison Mogan. 4.
- 2:37Speaker 1: The bodies of Kaylee Gonsalves and Madison Mogan were reportedly
- 2:41Speaker 1: discovered in the bedroom assigned to Madison Mogan, as depicted
- 2:44Speaker 1: in ISP 4856. Ms. Mogan was located on the south
- 2:49Speaker 1: side of the bed, closest to the closet opening, and Ms.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Gonsalves was located on the north side of the bed
- 2:55Speaker 1: closest to the wall. Both are covered with a beige comforter.
- 2:59Speaker 1: A white fleece item, which appears to be a blanket,
- 3:02Speaker 1: is lying at the foot of the bed. 5. Madison
- 3:06Speaker 1: Mogan and Kaylee Gonsalves are lying on their backs. Miss
- 3:09Speaker 1: Gonsalves is partially lying on top of the right arm,
- 3:12Speaker 1: right shoulder, the upper torso of Miss Mogan, as depicted
- 3:17Speaker 1: in ISP 4968. 6. The posture and proximity of the
- 3:22Speaker 1: bodies of Kaylee Gonsalves and Madison Mogan can best be
- 3:25Speaker 1: visualized when the comforter is removed as depicted in ISP 4978. A.
- 3:32Speaker 1: No blood is noted on the bottoms or tops of
- 3:34Speaker 1: their feet indicating that they were not upright or moving
- 3:37Speaker 1: about the area after their bloodletting injuries were inflicted. B.
- 3:42Speaker 1: The blood visible on the bottom sheet is limited to
- 3:45Speaker 1: the upper portion of the bed sheet at approximately chest level. C.
- 3:50Speaker 1: According to their respective autopsy reports, no bloodletting injuries were
- 3:54Speaker 1: reported below the waist or on the backs of either Ms.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Gonsalves or Ms. Mogan. The image 694-1245 taken at autopsy
- 4:05Speaker 1: shows a clearer view of the sleep pants of Kaylee Gonsalves.
- 4:09Speaker 1: The lack of blood on the front of her sleeping
- 4:11Speaker 1: pants further supports the conclusion that Ms. Gonsalves never stood
- 4:15Speaker 1: upright after the bloodletting injuries to her upper body were inflicted. 8. Ms.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Mogan's left leg is extended from under the bed covers
- 4:24Speaker 1: and her left foot is on the floor as depicted
- 4:27Speaker 1: in ISP 4871. A piece of debris is noted on
- 4:32Speaker 1: the floor between the left foot of Madison Mogan and
- 4:34Speaker 1: the pillow and is indicated by the yellow oval in
- 4:38Speaker 1: ISP 4871. A swabbing of the debris, as well as
- 4:42Speaker 1: the debris itself, was tested for the presumptive presence of blood.
- 4:46Speaker 1: The swabbing of this debris was yielded a positive presumptive
- 4:49Speaker 1: test for blood at the scene, but the O-Toledine test
- 4:53Speaker 1: conducted at the laboratory was weakly positive. It should be
- 4:57Speaker 1: noted that there were no drip trails of blood noted
- 5:00Speaker 1: on the bedroom floor. Drip trails are indicative of movement
- 5:04Speaker 1: by a bleeding individual. 9. An image ISP 4968, the
- 5:09Speaker 1: comforter has been turned inward. A. The left leg of
- 5:13Speaker 1: Madison Mogan is extended from the bed. B. Drip stains,
- 5:17Speaker 1: spatter stains, transfer stains, and saturation stains are visible on
- 5:21Speaker 1: the comforter and the exposed bedsheets. C. Apparent strands of
- 5:25Speaker 1: hair are also visible on the comforter. D. A large
- 5:30Speaker 1: pool of blood has accumulated at approximately the thigh region
- 5:33Speaker 1: of Kelly Gonsalves, even though referring to the autopsy report,
- 5:37Speaker 1: no injuries are reported in this area to account for
- 5:40Speaker 1: this pool of blood. I. For the large pool of
- 5:43Speaker 1: blood to accumulate, a source of blood is had to
- 5:46Speaker 1: be above this area while bleeding occurred. E. The distribution
- 5:51Speaker 1: of the bloodstain on the face and upper body of
- 5:53Speaker 1: Kaylee Gonsalves, the bloodstain on the south wall besides the bed,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and the pool of blood at Ms. Gonsalves' thigh region
- 6:00Speaker 1: on the comforter indicate that her posture and position did
- 6:03Speaker 1: change during this event. 10. Spatter associated with impact is
- 6:09Speaker 1: noted on all four walls of the bedroom, above the
- 6:13Speaker 1: head of the bed to the south wall besides Kaylee
- 6:15Speaker 1: Gonsalves' to the north wall, and to the door at
- 6:18Speaker 1: the foot of the bed. These areas will be described
- 6:22Speaker 1: more fully in this report. 11. Multiple spatters associated with
- 6:26Speaker 1: impact and two cast-off patterns are noted on the north wall,
- 6:31Speaker 1: to the right of Cayley-Gonzalez, as depicted in the overview
- 6:35Speaker 1: in ISP 4890. DSC 4595 shows the area indicated by
- 6:38Speaker 1: the yellow box in ISP 4890 in more detail. A.
- 6:46Speaker 1: The directionality of spatter close to the doorway is from
- 6:49Speaker 1: right to left and downward as indicated by the yellow
- 6:53Speaker 1: arrows in DSC 4595. I. The area of convergence of
- 6:58Speaker 1: this spatter pattern indicates they originated from a spatter-producing event
- 7:03Speaker 1: that occurred above the level of the bed. B. Two
- 7:06Speaker 1: patterns of cast-off blood is indicated in DSC 4595 by
- 7:09Speaker 1: the green dotted lines. Cast-off is created by the movement
- 7:17Speaker 1: of bloodied objects. Image ISP 5122 depicts spatter stains associated
- 7:24Speaker 1: with impact on the door casing and on the exterior
- 7:27Speaker 1: surface of the bedroom door belonging to Madison Mogan. A.
- 7:32Speaker 1: The shape and location of these spatter stains are consistent
- 7:35Speaker 1: with there being a continuation of spatter stains observed on
- 7:39Speaker 1: the north bedroom wall beside the bed. B. This is
- 7:42Speaker 1: consistent with the spatter stains having originated due to an
- 7:46Speaker 1: impact delivered to a source of exposed blood on the bed. 13.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Image DSC 4603 depicts a portion of the north bedroom
- 7:56Speaker 1: wall by Ms. Gonsalves' right arm. The following blood stains
- 8:00Speaker 1: are noted on this wall. A. Spatter associated with impacts
- 8:04Speaker 1: is traveling downward and to the right as indicated by
- 8:08Speaker 1: the yellow arrows. I. The area of convergence of these
- 8:12Speaker 1: spatters indicates they originated from an impact that occurred above
- 8:16Speaker 1: the level of the bed. B. Several areas of transfer
- 8:19Speaker 1: standing are noted. C. Near the center of the image,
- 8:23Speaker 1: a cessation pattern is indicated by a green arrow. Cessation
- 8:27Speaker 1: patterns are the result of a bloodied object undergoing abrupt deceleration. D.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Flow patterns are indicated by blue arrows inserted in DSE 4603.
- 8:39Speaker 1: The appearance of the stain making up these flow patterns
- 8:42Speaker 1: are consistent with diluted blood. Diluted blood is created when
- 8:47Speaker 1: blood is mixed with another liquid. I, the mouth and
- 8:49Speaker 1: nose injuries of Kelly Gonsalves and or Madison Mogan, as
- 8:53Speaker 1: noted in the autopsy reports, are potential sources of diluted blood.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Image ISP 4975. Crop depicts the area adjacent to and
- 9:04Speaker 1: above the head of Kelly Gonsalves. A. Three discrete areas
- 9:09Speaker 1: of transfer stains, indicated by the yellow arrows, are noted
- 9:12Speaker 1: on the pillow nearest the head of Kelly Gonsalves. i.
- 9:16Speaker 1: These transfer stains have thin protrusions extending from the edge
- 9:21Speaker 1: of the transfer stain. This geometric configuration is indicative of
- 9:25Speaker 1: transfer stains created by head hair. 2. No wiping, smearing,
- 9:30Speaker 1: or other connection is noted between the three transfer stains.
- 9:35Speaker 1: These transfer stains were created by discrete moments of contact.
- 9:39Speaker 1: No dragging or sliding movement is noted. B. Spatter associated
- 9:43Speaker 1: with impact are noted on the pillow and the wall
- 9:44Speaker 1: above the head of Ms. Gonsalves. 15. Spatter associated with
- 9:48Speaker 1: impact are visible on the pillow and the wall above
- 9:50Speaker 1: Madison Mogan, as depicted in image ISP-4953. A. Near the
- 9:56Speaker 1: lap region of Ms. Mogan, two linear saturation stains are
- 9:58Speaker 1: indicated by the green arrows in image ISP 4953. 16.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Image 5132 provides a closer image of the area on
- 10:03Speaker 1: the east wall between Ms. Mogan's left shoulder and the
- 10:05Speaker 1: bedside table. The smaller stains on the wall in this
- 10:21Speaker 1: image are consistent with spatter stains associated with impact. These
- 10:25Speaker 1: spatter stains are traveling from left to right as indicated
- 10:29Speaker 1: by the yellow arrows. A. The directionality and the distribution
- 10:33Speaker 1: of the spatter stains indicate that they originate near the
- 10:36Speaker 1: location of Ms. Mogan as depicted in ISP 5132, and
- 10:41Speaker 1: that they originate only a short distance above the surface
- 10:44Speaker 1: of the bed. B. The larger stains, which culminate with
- 10:48Speaker 1: flow stains, are indicated by the blue arrow are indicative
- 10:52Speaker 1: of cast-off stains created by a bloody object in motion. 17.
- 10:58Speaker 1: ISP 5149 depicts the underside of the shelf above the
- 11:02Speaker 1: headboard of the bed. Spatters associated with impact are noted
- 11:06Speaker 1: to the underside of the shelf. A. These spatters represent
- 11:10Speaker 1: the termination of spatters associated with impact seen on the
- 11:14Speaker 1: wall above the head of the bed. B. The directionality
- 11:18Speaker 1: and distribution of these spatter stains is consistent with their
- 11:21Speaker 1: originating from the head region of the mattress. 18. The
- 11:25Speaker 1: flow patterns on Madison Mogan's face are depicted in ISP 4868.
- 11:31Speaker 1: There is little deviation in the directionality of these flow
- 11:34Speaker 1: patterns indicating that there was little change in the posture
- 11:38Speaker 1: of Ms. Mogan after these flows were created. 19. Spatter
- 11:43Speaker 1: stains associated with impact on the right side of the
- 11:46Speaker 1: closet opening on the south wall are indicated by marker
- 11:50Speaker 1: 46 in images DSC 4621 and DSC 4623. A. The
- 11:57Speaker 1: majority of these spatter stains are circular in shape with
- 12:00Speaker 1: the shape of the spatter along the lower margin of
- 12:03Speaker 1: the overall pattern being directed downward. B. The shape and
- 12:07Speaker 1: distribution of these spatter stains associated with impact are consistent
- 12:11Speaker 1: with their originating from the area of the bed. 20.
- 12:15Speaker 1: The location of a brown object in the vicinity of
- 12:18Speaker 1: the lower left back and or thigh of Madison Mogan
- 12:21Speaker 1: is indicated by a yellow oval inserted in image ISP 4865.
- 12:27Speaker 1: This object was later identified as a brown knife sheath.
- 12:31Speaker 1: The back of the knife sheath is exposed. A. In
- 12:35Speaker 1: image ISP 4966, this knife sheath is indicated by placard 14.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Spatter associated with an impact is noted on the sheet
- 12:45Speaker 1: on which the brown knife sheath is found. All right, folks,
- 12:49Speaker 1: we're going to wrap up right here. And in the
- 12:51Speaker 1: next episode, we're going to pick up with 21. All
- 12:54Speaker 1: the information that goes with this episode can be found
- 12:57Speaker 1: in the description box.
