- 0:44Erin Gray: Welcome back to your money your rules podcast with me, erin Gray.
- 0:47Erin Gray: I'm grateful that you are here joining me for another episode, so let's dive in.
- 0:52Erin Gray: Okay, so let's talk about actually what I believe generational wealth actually is.
- 0:59Erin Gray: You know the financial world, the financial industry has us believing that it is assets that we have accumulated, allocated and structured throughout our lifetime and so that we have allocated them appropriately, titled them appropriately, so that we can pass them on to our heirs with the least amount of taxes and interference like probate, attorney's fees, et cetera.
- 1:21Erin Gray: But I believe that it's so much more than that.
- 1:25Erin Gray: I believe it is also the beliefs, the patterns, the energy that you pass on, or I should say, the energy that you live in while you are on this planet, and the beliefs that your children pick up from you right now, today, so many of us inherited scarcity, anxiety, secrecy around money, and breaking free from that is, I believe, also generational wealth.
- 1:51Erin Gray: Teaching our children about money so that they can feel empowered and that they can change their lives in the world I believe that, like that is truly generational wealth, and why I believe this actually matters is that many of us are the first in our families I mean, this has been true for me and also a lot of my clients is that we are the first in our families to build wealth in our thirties and our forties.
- 2:19Erin Gray: Like not actually retirement is when we got to you know that amount of wealth and like how our grandparents or our parents might have.
- 2:28Erin Gray: And but many of us built it or have built it from that place, from scarcity, from not enough, from fear.
- 2:38Erin Gray: And where did we get this?
- 2:40Erin Gray: From our parents, right, our parents didn't know any different because they learned from their parents.
- 2:45Erin Gray: So, on the one hand like congrats to us right For rewiring what is normal, the expectations, what we believe is possible for us and our lineage, and the time that we could create that amount of wealth.
- 2:58Erin Gray: Like that's huge, like pat on your back, so grateful, so proud of yourself.
- 3:03Erin Gray: You know, having money, living the lifestyle that we are used to living, like our children have vastly different lifestyle or childhood that many of us had.
- 3:12Erin Gray: I mean, I pretty much sure I wasn't getting massages, like my daughter asked me this morning mom, when was the first time that you got a massage?
- 3:19Erin Gray: I'm like 25.
- 3:20Erin Gray: She's like I was eight.
- 3:22Erin Gray: I'm like, yeah, I know.
- 3:23Erin Gray: Like just just, the lifestyle that our children have now is very different.
- 3:28Erin Gray: And what we do know is that we don't want just more money.
- 3:35Erin Gray: We want freedom with our money.
- 3:38Erin Gray: We want more ease with our money.
- 3:41Erin Gray: We want to feel safe with our money.
- 3:47Erin Gray: We want to feel safe that money is always going to be there for us.
- 3:48Erin Gray: We want our bodies to know that money flows in and it flows out, just like our breath.
- 3:52Erin Gray: I think we truly want prosperity and abundance, and prosperity is defined as how you actually feel when the money is spent and being in a constant state of flux.
- 4:05Erin Gray: It's having everything you want right now and knowing that more is coming.
- 4:11Erin Gray: We want true prosperity and abundance and this is why I believe that it's so important to actually teach your body that it's safe to have and to circulate money.
- 4:26Erin Gray: It is the nervous system work that so many of us are craving or maybe you're already, you know, deep in this work right now, because we have all seen that simply having money sitting in a bank account doesn't automatically equal or create safety.
- 4:45Erin Gray: You know, if money still feels chaotic or it feels threatening, your body holds that stress.
- 4:54Erin Gray: That is when you find yourself making reactive decisions, because you are in those lower three chakras.
- 5:01Erin Gray: You are in that survival state of being versus, in that creative.
- 5:05Erin Gray: You know this.
- 5:06Erin Gray: This looks like hoarding, this looks like undercharging, this looks like avoiding your finances altogether.
- 5:13Erin Gray: Or you know, buying the when I say cheapest thing, I mean what costs the least.
- 5:19Erin Gray: But that's not actually what you want.
- 5:21Erin Gray: But when you learn how to regulate your nervous system, when you learn how to approach money with more calm and ease, that is what you begin to model and your children pick up on that.
- 5:32Erin Gray: That is what you pass down and that, I think, is even more powerful than any dollar amount that we could ever give to our children.
- 5:39Erin Gray: You know, the safest thing that you can give the next generation, it's not a financial inheritance, it's not more money, it's your own healed, grounded relationship with money.
- 5:55Erin Gray: So you might be saying, okay, aaron, that's great, I'm all in, I hear it, but how do you actually do this and everything?
- 6:02Erin Gray: I will say this to the end of time everything starts with awareness how you are thinking, how you are speaking about your money currently with your spouse, with yourself, in your head, with your kids.
- 6:16Erin Gray: Pay attention to that.
- 6:18Erin Gray: That is the first step.
- 6:19Erin Gray: We don't have to change anything, like I was talking to a client last week and I said I want you to ponder your language that you're using and she said so, you just want me to see what I am saying.
- 6:30Erin Gray: I said yes and not change anything.
- 6:32Erin Gray: And I said yes, exactly, don't change anything.
- 6:34Erin Gray: All we're doing for the next week is we're just noticing what we're doing and saying about our money.
- 6:40Erin Gray: And then I want you to think about are you normalizing, talking about money Just like it's, like the weather, or does it feel heightened in your body?
- 6:51Erin Gray: Are you saying things like we can't afford it, when you actually can, but you just don't want to buy that for your child, which is not a problem, right?
- 7:00Erin Gray: We don't have to buy everything our children want us to get for them.
- 7:03Erin Gray: But what language are you using?
- 7:06Erin Gray: Or are you saying things like I'm choosing not to invest in that right now because X, y, z, like I will tell my daughter, or our daughter, you know, I will tell her.
- 7:15Erin Gray: Listen, I don't want to buy that because that's not a value that dad and I currently have.
- 7:19Erin Gray: If you want to use your money for that, that's totally fine.
- 7:22Erin Gray: You're welcome to do that, but mom and dad don't want to use our money for that, and I think that that is so empowering to our kids, because then they get to choose.
- 7:30Erin Gray: So if you are feeling activated with your kids when they ask you for things, or you're not talking about money or teaching money, let this be an invitation for you to take this work deeper.
- 7:45Erin Gray: You know this is some of the work that I do with my clients and I would love to support you.
- 7:50Erin Gray: We work through some of these deep-seated money beliefs.
- 7:54Erin Gray: We work on the logistics what I call the 3D of money.
- 7:56Erin Gray: Right, we understand what our financial snapshot is.
- 7:59Erin Gray: We talk about our goals, where we want to go, but it's really this deeper inner work, inner self-concept that we have, our beliefs that we have about money, releasing them, because we are all born abundant and prosperous, just we've picked up beliefs along the way.
- 8:18Erin Gray: So I would love to support you If this resonates with you.
- 8:22Erin Gray: You can schedule a call by just clicking on the link in the show notes or you can head over to my website at generate a life while livecom and schedule a call.
- 8:32Erin Gray: So I believe, like I said, generational wealth it's more than assets, it's nervous system safety, it's beliefs, it's behaviors, it's empowering our children so that they can have a different life and their children and grandchildren Like I really truly believe.
- 8:48Erin Gray: For us as women, there's a fork in the road.
- 8:50Erin Gray: We get to either continue to go on the same route that we've been going on and we repeat the same patterns for our kids and grandkids, et cetera, or we would get to say you know what, no more for our kids and grandkids, et cetera.
- 9:01Erin Gray: Or we would get to say you know what, no more.
- 9:02Erin Gray: I'm going to do this work.
- 9:02Erin Gray: I'm going to remove some of these limiting beliefs that are keeping me small, that are not allowing me to live my life to my fullest.
- 9:09Erin Gray: I'm going to let go of some of these beliefs so that I can teach this to my children, and I think we're already doing some of this already.
- 9:19Erin Gray: Right, you're already creating generational wealth by healing your relationship with money.
- 9:25Erin Gray: So, like I say, with anything, zero to 1%, it's everything.
- 9:29Erin Gray: Start small, start with awareness, start with how you actually want to feel with money, and then notice when you aren't thinking and feeling and acting from that place.
- 9:39Erin Gray: Okay, that's all I have for you today.
- 9:42Erin Gray: I'll see you in the next episode.
