- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. Everybody, Welcome to another hour of NFL Now.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Patrick Cleibon here in the NFL LA news Room, as
- 0:22Speaker 1: we're looking to bring you the news of the day,
- 0:24Speaker 1: an update on the surgery that was scheduled for forty
- 0:26Speaker 1: nine Ers quarterback Brock Purty, the injury suffered in the
- 0:29Speaker 1: NFC Championship game. That is in coming. But we start
- 0:33Speaker 1: with the news of the week, and that is what
- 0:35Speaker 1: is new right now, not necessarily all the way new,
- 0:37Speaker 1: because we're still waiting on a decision from long time
- 0:40Speaker 1: Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The contingent of the Jets flew
- 0:45Speaker 1: out to California to meet with Aaron Rodgers earlier this week,
- 0:49Speaker 1: and now the Jets, the Packers, everybody is still waiting
- 0:52Speaker 1: for a decision from Aaron Rodgers regarding whether he will
- 0:55Speaker 1: play football at all in twenty twenty three. But the
- 0:57Speaker 1: callers on w fa N Radio not waiting to let
- 1:01Speaker 1: their voices be heard. I think Aaron Rodgers weird. I
- 1:05Speaker 1: don't want it in New York, but I think the
- 1:07Speaker 1: only way we can make that a good situation is
- 1:10Speaker 1: hope he doesn't go, you know, on an ayahuasca vendor.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Of course, let me preface this with the fact that
- 1:16Speaker 1: I feel sick to my stomach. Still based off with
- 1:20Speaker 1: the fact that Joe Douglas decided to draft a softie
- 1:24Speaker 1: based off of one uncontested throw in a T shirt
- 1:29Speaker 1: and short of product. Zach Wilson was not pick but
- 1:32Speaker 1: two for nothing. Yeah, he is a good, very good,
- 1:36Speaker 1: talented individual. I think you're saying the whole situation is
- 1:40Speaker 1: the Jets are desperate and Aaron Rodgers is desperate. But
- 1:42Speaker 1: actually what it is is that they're the perfect machins,
- 1:48Speaker 1: be perfect like, the Jets are ready to win. The
- 1:50Speaker 1: Jets have never had a good QB like in your
- 1:52Speaker 1: entire history. And he's still what, he's thirty nine years old.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Who cares? But is that worth fifty eight million dollars
- 1:59Speaker 1: for a season and then you got to start over
- 2:02Speaker 1: again next year if he decides to retire. That's my
- 2:04Speaker 1: poorty because we suck some deep thoughts from sports talk
- 2:10Speaker 1: radio callers and Rappaport and Tom Pells. So you know
- 2:14Speaker 1: what I really like. I like that last hour we
- 2:17Speaker 1: did a whole thing on Rogers and this time we
- 2:19Speaker 1: were replaced by w fa N callers, and it was
- 2:22Speaker 1: probably more interesting if we're being completely honest, well as
- 2:25Speaker 1: NFL network insiders, I've actually decided to spare you guys.
- 2:29Speaker 1: We've installed a device and it has Aaron Rodgers made
- 2:31Speaker 1: a decision. Yet it just alternates it right now, it's
- 2:33Speaker 1: flashing red and it just says no. So we don't
- 2:35Speaker 1: have to talk Aaron Rodgers with you. You've been given
- 2:37Speaker 1: a reprieve on this Friday edition of the show. But
- 2:40Speaker 1: we will ian discuss brock Purty and the results from
- 2:44Speaker 1: his surgery that was scheduled for today. How did that go.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It sounded like it went really well, all positive for
- 2:51Speaker 1: the forty nine ers, and brock Purty did have his
- 2:53Speaker 1: long waited surgery. Doctor Frank Meister performed the procedure the
- 2:57Speaker 1: Texas Rangers team doctor inserting internal brace into the UCL
- 3:02Speaker 1: of brock Purty. Now did doctor went into the surgery
- 3:06Speaker 1: today with options. The options were I think very simple
- 3:09Speaker 1: and very clear. One was Tommy John surgery, which would
- 3:12Speaker 1: mean out for the season, full elbow reconstruction. That would
- 3:15Speaker 1: be bad. Long term, it would be fine, but immediately
- 3:18Speaker 1: that would be bad. That is not the option that
- 3:20Speaker 1: the doctor chose. Instead, he went with what was the
- 3:25Speaker 1: result from a really good looking internal elbow. For my understanding,
- 3:29Speaker 1: the fact that the UCL was healthy enough to do
- 3:31Speaker 1: the internal brace means brock Purty should throw in about
- 3:35Speaker 1: three months and that is the timetable we had no
- 3:38Speaker 1: presumably that would give him enough time to be ready
- 3:40Speaker 1: for the season. But either way, there was a worst
- 3:42Speaker 1: case scenario, and then there was the other. This was
- 3:45Speaker 1: the other, which is good, Yeah, good news for brock
- 3:48Speaker 1: Purty and a promising rookie season that had a rough
- 3:51Speaker 1: ending in the NFC Championship Game. So perhaps giving the
- 3:54Speaker 1: forty nine ers some ease and making a decision coming
- 3:57Speaker 1: up later on this year in this off season. But Tom,
- 3:59Speaker 1: the Minnesota Vikings have made their decision regarding Adam Thielan.
- 4:03Speaker 1: What can you tell us, Patrick? The Vikings are releasing
- 4:08Speaker 1: two time Pro Bowl wide receiver Adam Feeling today at
- 4:11Speaker 1: the sides were unable to agree to a restructured deal
- 4:14Speaker 1: that would have lowered thelands nearly twenty million dollar cap
- 4:17Speaker 1: hit Dealan is thirty two years old, but he's still
- 4:20Speaker 1: got something in the tank. He's going to keep playing.
- 4:23Speaker 1: The hope is that he can land with a contender,
- 4:25Speaker 1: and because they're releasing him now, that gives Dealing the
- 4:28Speaker 1: opportunity to sign someplace prior to the start of free agency.
- 4:32Speaker 1: That is not the only question for the Vikings as
- 4:35Speaker 1: they moved through and the run up to the new
- 4:38Speaker 1: league year beginning next Wednesday. Sedarius Smith, their veteran pass rusher,
- 4:42Speaker 1: posted semi cryptically on social media yesterday thank you to
- 4:46Speaker 1: the organization. Ian had reported that Darius has asked the
- 4:50Speaker 1: team to release him. The Vikings at this point have
- 4:53Speaker 1: no plans to do so. Smith signed a three year
- 4:56Speaker 1: deal last year. He believes that he should make more
- 4:59Speaker 1: than the twelve point five million dollars this year that
- 5:02Speaker 1: he is owed. We'll see what direction this goes from here.
- 5:05Speaker 1: But does bar Mencian There's not a lot of pass
- 5:07Speaker 1: rush on the free agent market here, So maybe a
- 5:10Speaker 1: trade opportunity out there someplace for somebody wants of Editan. Yeah,
- 5:13Speaker 1: maybe peaking at that market led to this decision from Zadarius.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Some decisions to be made for the reigning NFC champions.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Some guy's leaders, gus wanting to leave you, What can
- 5:23Speaker 1: you tell us about Philly? We'll stick with the guy
- 5:26Speaker 1: who is staying first. Brandon Graham, the longtime star wars
- 5:29Speaker 1: for Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher, former first rounder. He gets
- 5:33Speaker 1: a one year deal up to six million dollars, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: I would imagine he probably could have gotten more elsewhere.
- 5:38Speaker 1: In fact, I'm almost positive could have gotten more elsewhere.
- 5:40Speaker 1: This was about him just wanting to be a member
- 5:42Speaker 1: of the Egos, wanting to stays with one organization through
- 5:44Speaker 1: his career, just wanting to be a part of this defense.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Knowing the direction it seems that Egos were going. This
- 5:50Speaker 1: was about loyalty. Brandon Graham stays, we'll see if Darius
- 5:54Speaker 1: Slay also stays that. I would say that is a
- 5:57Speaker 1: question mark. And you know, one of the biggest trades
- 5:59Speaker 1: that Egos have made in recent times trading by Darius
- 6:02Speaker 1: Lay giving him a big contract. That contract is almost
- 6:05Speaker 1: up do a big number this year with no guaranteed
- 6:07Speaker 1: money left. Yes, he is thirty two years old, but
- 6:10Speaker 1: he is also an awesome football player. People like awesome
- 6:13Speaker 1: football players. Perhaps there's somewhere, some way in the middle
- 6:16Speaker 1: of all this is the way the Eagles can make
- 6:18Speaker 1: this right and make Slay happy and keep one of
- 6:21Speaker 1: their best players on their defense. It's me. I'm people.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I'm a fan of awesome football players as well. Thanksy
- 6:26Speaker 1: and Tom. Let's discuss another team in the NFC East,
- 6:31Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys making some moves clear him to cap space.
- 6:34Speaker 1: What can you tell us there? Pattering. The Cowboys announced
- 6:40Speaker 1: that they have cleared about thirty million dollars in twenty
- 6:43Speaker 1: twenty three salary cap space by restructuring the contracts of
- 6:46Speaker 1: Dak Prescott and Zach Martin. Now I'll give my daily
- 6:50Speaker 1: explainer on this. Restructure in this case does not mean
- 6:53Speaker 1: a pay cut. They take a big chunk of base
- 6:55Speaker 1: salary converted to a bonus. It's calculated differently on the
- 6:59Speaker 1: salary cap, though every dollar you spend hits the cap eventually,
- 7:02Speaker 1: so while the number this year goes down, the number
- 7:04Speaker 1: in few years goes up. These deals also do not
- 7:07Speaker 1: preclude them from eventually extending one or both of these players,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and Dak Prescott said recently he is excited about the
- 7:13Speaker 1: possibility of doing another extension with the Cowboys at some point.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Here this does to get them in CAPP compliance leading
- 7:21Speaker 1: up to next Wednesday. Maybe gives them the freedom to sign. Oh,
- 7:25Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe a certain wide receiver Odell Beckham
- 7:28Speaker 1: Junior is holding a workout today in Tempe, Arizona for
- 7:32Speaker 1: NFL teams, and yes, I'm told the Cowboys will be
- 7:35Speaker 1: among the teams that are represented there. The Cowboys and
- 7:38Speaker 1: the Giants, who are also attending this workout were among
- 7:40Speaker 1: the teams that Odell visited with last year. At that point,
- 7:44Speaker 1: wasn't quite ready to work out for teams. Now he's
- 7:47Speaker 1: thirteen months removed, ready to work out, ready to play.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Because he's been a street free agent, not an unrestricted
- 7:54Speaker 1: free agent, he doesn't need to wait until next week. Hypothetically,
- 7:58Speaker 1: if things go well today, Odell could sign a contract immediately,
- 8:02Speaker 1: so we shall see exactly when that potentially it's done
- 8:05Speaker 1: and puts one of the most talented receivers in the
- 8:07Speaker 1: NFL back on a roster at last. Noah, but perhaps
- 8:10Speaker 1: Odell could kick off free agency frenzy with us Sunday
- 8:13Speaker 1: at one pm Eastern See how things get started. Also,
- 8:16Speaker 1: you could download plus dot NFL dot com and watch
- 8:18Speaker 1: it on his phone or tablet. Thanks to in Rappaport,
- 8:20Speaker 1: Tom Pella, Sero, you think shortly, Hurch, this coach put
- 8:30Speaker 1: a touchdown right on the bunny with his throat letter
- 8:36Speaker 1: shop house tending football. Okay, I love Hurt. The Philadelphia
- 8:42Speaker 1: Eagles are heading in Super Bowl fifty seven. Hurt. He's
- 8:47Speaker 1: fucking deep and it's cot condown. He wants to run
- 8:51Speaker 1: its check up Tana syst like. But okay, song Hurt
- 9:00Speaker 1: and start. Eagles played with everything they have team, It's
- 9:16Speaker 1: not just bouncing back from the Super Bowl. Law. Since
- 9:18Speaker 1: James Palmer joins us to discuss the Philadelphia Eagles or
- 9:20Speaker 1: that they need to resign or signed Jalen Hurts to
- 9:23Speaker 1: a long term deal, or the myriad of free agents,
- 9:25Speaker 1: they also lost their offensive coordinator, James Now Shane Stekin's gone.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Brian Johnson comes in. What's the offense going to look
- 9:33Speaker 1: like with him? Well, exactly the same? Okay, next question, Patrick, No,
- 9:38Speaker 1: let me listen. It is going to look exactly the same,
- 9:40Speaker 1: because you're right, it is Nick Seriality that runs this
- 9:42Speaker 1: group and he is the one that obviously has the
- 9:44Speaker 1: offensive vision as a whole in terms of how everything
- 9:47Speaker 1: was gonna run. And they wanted continuity for Jalen Hurts.
- 9:50Speaker 1: If you remember all of the turboil that he has
- 9:53Speaker 1: had in terms of new offensive systems, dating all the
- 9:56Speaker 1: way back from high school year in and year out,
- 9:58Speaker 1: once he graduated, all through college and changing schools, he
- 10:01Speaker 1: had some consistency and we were able to go out
- 10:03Speaker 1: and see what he did. Now you have someone in
- 10:05Speaker 1: Brian Johnson who has known Jalen Hurts since he would say,
- 10:08Speaker 1: what four years old, because when he first met him.
- 10:10Speaker 1: So that's goot, some consistency you have in the backfield. Now.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Obviously it is a different play callers, a different voice
- 10:16Speaker 1: in your ear, but Brian Johnson had a big part
- 10:18Speaker 1: in my understanding to how they put this offense together
- 10:20Speaker 1: in terms of situational football, third down, red zone, you know,
- 10:24Speaker 1: all of those type of things. He had a big
- 10:25Speaker 1: voice in the room and how all of that operated.
- 10:28Speaker 1: So you look at all of the pieces around him.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Obviously we're seeing if Jason Kelsey is going to return
- 10:34Speaker 1: or retire, but Cam Jurgens is in the waiting there,
- 10:36Speaker 1: but they would like him to obviously play at center
- 10:39Speaker 1: and play at the level we saw this past year.
- 10:41Speaker 1: But most of that group is returning around Jalen Hurts
- 10:45Speaker 1: and the offensive system is going to be almost identical,
- 10:47Speaker 1: which is a very very good thing for Jalen Hurts.
- 10:50Speaker 1: We'll go to the other side of the field in
- 10:52Speaker 1: Arizona for the Super Bowl Champs. James is the opportunity
- 10:57Speaker 1: for Orlando Brown could be to leave. But is there
- 11:00Speaker 1: a chance that he could be coming back. There's a chance,
- 11:05Speaker 1: but I think we might be looking towards a greater
- 11:07Speaker 1: chance of them looking other directions at the left tackle
- 11:10Speaker 1: spot because instead of tagging him, they want to fix
- 11:12Speaker 1: that position long term. And we can look into the draft,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and we can look at free agency in terms of
- 11:17Speaker 1: maybe a stop gap being part of that process as
- 11:20Speaker 1: they go and draft a player that could potentially be
- 11:22Speaker 1: a right tackle right now coming out of school that
- 11:25Speaker 1: they see fit to move over to left tackle. I
- 11:27Speaker 1: think we could trust in Andy Reid and Brett Beach
- 11:30Speaker 1: and what they do in terms of evaluating offensive line talent.
- 11:33Speaker 1: When you look at what Creed Humphrey did coming out
- 11:36Speaker 1: is now considered one of the best centers in all
- 11:37Speaker 1: of football, Trade Smith the right guard. Both of them drafted,
- 11:40Speaker 1: played right away and have played pretty much every snap
- 11:43Speaker 1: since and are two of the better offensive linemen in football.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I think the other part of the Ortlanta Brown situation
- 11:48Speaker 1: and left tackle for the Chiefs is the right tackle
- 11:51Speaker 1: position as well, because Andrew Wiley played that and played
- 11:54Speaker 1: it very well this year for a little over two
- 11:55Speaker 1: million dollars. He's not going to get that again, considering
- 11:59Speaker 1: he's a free agent. That numbers going up when you
- 12:01Speaker 1: play like that against one of the best pass rushers
- 12:03Speaker 1: in all of football and Hassan Reddick the biggest stage
- 12:05Speaker 1: in all the sports in the Super Bowl and contain
- 12:07Speaker 1: him the way Andrew Wiley did. But Wiley's very valuable
- 12:10Speaker 1: to this team. Patrick Mahomes thinks the world of him,
- 12:13Speaker 1: and so it's interesting to see what they do at
- 12:15Speaker 1: the right tackle spot and how that plays into their
- 12:17Speaker 1: plans at the left tackle. When I mentioned you have
- 12:19Speaker 1: a couple of options, how you want to approach the
- 12:21Speaker 1: long term feel of that left tackle spot. Yeah, zero
- 12:24Speaker 1: sacks allowed in Super Bowl fifty seven. Have to think
- 12:27Speaker 1: that zero translates to the numbers somewhere else. The question
- 12:30Speaker 1: is just how much for Orlando Brown and Andrew Wiley
- 12:32Speaker 1: and the rest of these Kansas City Chiefs. James Palmer
- 12:35Speaker 1: looking in at both teams, it was never green in black,
- 12:38Speaker 1: and it was never that was right. You know, they
- 12:47Speaker 1: got five on the line of scrimmage and here, they
- 12:50Speaker 1: bring it all and there's Trake will second sack of
- 12:53Speaker 1: the game. They bring the blitz. Everybody's coming Ario to hit, hit, drops, sack,
- 12:57Speaker 1: bite or tranquil shotgun and this time it all the
- 13:01Speaker 1: field intercepted, picked off, true, tranquil true, what I play
- 13:08Speaker 1: under pressure? And he's dropped Trank, He's stunned, He's stud
- 13:13Speaker 1: and that stuff joins us now, Drew Trank will entering
- 13:17Speaker 1: seasons five of his NFL career, looking forward to free
- 13:20Speaker 1: agency coming up pretty soon. How's that process for you,
- 13:24Speaker 1: Drew Handling navigating all this. You've just had your third
- 13:28Speaker 1: child and now free agency coming up next week. How
- 13:30Speaker 1: are things going right now? Hey? Patrick, It's an exciting season.
- 13:36Speaker 1: It's the patient waiting game, as they like to call it.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But we're just super stoked to be in this position
- 13:43Speaker 1: and just trying to enjoy time as a family. And
- 13:45Speaker 1: what's done is done, and you got to let the
- 13:47Speaker 1: tape speak for itself, and you kind of all haze
- 13:51Speaker 1: in the barn, as they say, and we're just kind
- 13:53Speaker 1: of patiently waiting to see what this next chapter is
- 13:54Speaker 1: going to be for us, and it definitely spoke for itself.
- 13:57Speaker 1: In twenty twenty two, fifth in the entire league and
- 13:59Speaker 1: tackles more snaps tackles sacks than you've had in the
- 14:02Speaker 1: rest of your career. What was the process like as
- 14:04Speaker 1: you prepared for this contract year in LA. Well, I mean,
- 14:10Speaker 1: being a former safety, I feel like I'm constantly learning
- 14:13Speaker 1: the ins and outs of the linebacker position and for
- 14:15Speaker 1: me transitioning to that position, played a lot of special
- 14:19Speaker 1: teams my rookie years. Second year, had a really good camp. Unfortunately,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you know, break my ankle like the fifth snap of
- 14:25Speaker 1: the season in a freak injury. Came back. Third year,
- 14:28Speaker 1: kind of had a rotation going between me, Kenneth Murray
- 14:31Speaker 1: and Kaiser White, who had an unbelievable season with the
- 14:34Speaker 1: Eagles this year, and then kind of really was just
- 14:36Speaker 1: able to come into my own this year, and I
- 14:39Speaker 1: just believe the best is yet to come, and I'm
- 14:41Speaker 1: just gonna keep getting better and better and learning this position.
- 14:45Speaker 1: And looking back at your time in LA Derek Ansley, guy,
- 14:48Speaker 1: I actually went to college with it is going to
- 14:49Speaker 1: be now the defensive coordinator. What do you see in
- 14:51Speaker 1: the future for this Chargers defense, whether or not you're
- 14:54Speaker 1: a part of it. Absolutely, They're just gonna keep getting better.
- 14:58Speaker 1: And Da is an unbelievable coach, brings absolutely unbelievable energy
- 15:04Speaker 1: to table and you can't say enough about him. Wishing
- 15:08Speaker 1: Naughty the best of luck. You know with Miami, he's
- 15:11Speaker 1: an unbelievable coordinator as well, but just had a really
- 15:13Speaker 1: good coaching staff, a lot of really good players, And
- 15:15Speaker 1: so if this outfit can be healthy together and get
- 15:18Speaker 1: time together on the field, I think it's going to
- 15:20Speaker 1: be a really really good picture moving forward. And we
- 15:23Speaker 1: got a lot of insight to some of your teammates
- 15:25Speaker 1: offensive end, defensive on the Drew Trank will show where
- 15:27Speaker 1: you were, of course the titled host getting a look
- 15:30Speaker 1: back at the guys that came on your show. If
- 15:33Speaker 1: you're gonna pick, if you're gonna pick a long term
- 15:36Speaker 1: co host from your time in Los Angeles, who would
- 15:39Speaker 1: be the best co host for the Drew Trank will
- 15:40Speaker 1: show that you had on as a game in the
- 15:43Speaker 1: past couple of years. I think I think people would
- 15:47Speaker 1: be a little surprised by this. But Joey Bosa, he's
- 15:51Speaker 1: unbelievably thoughtful, He's unbelievably he's philosophical in a lot of ways.
- 15:58Speaker 1: He has a lot of really good insights and takes
- 16:00Speaker 1: just on life in the game in general. And our
- 16:02Speaker 1: conversation was just really really cool getting to peel back
- 16:06Speaker 1: his story. And a lot of people they just see
- 16:08Speaker 1: what happens on the field, see what happens off the
- 16:10Speaker 1: field through a football lens. But you know, the goal
- 16:13Speaker 1: of this show is to really help fans and people
- 16:15Speaker 1: just get to understand athletes on a deeper level and
- 16:18Speaker 1: understand that they're just human beings like everybody else. And
- 16:21Speaker 1: so I would probably go with Joey bos that he
- 16:23Speaker 1: was fun. He was like, let's do this again right
- 16:25Speaker 1: when we got off camera, so the excitement was there.
- 16:28Speaker 1: He'd be a pretty good co host, all right. And
- 16:29Speaker 1: as a podcast host, you know, Drew, we got draft
- 16:31Speaker 1: season coming up. We got a couple of fighting Irish
- 16:34Speaker 1: guys that were paying at tencha tools. Let's put your
- 16:36Speaker 1: podcast hat on a breakdown a prospect. We'll start with
- 16:40Speaker 1: the tight end. We'll start with Michael Mayer. What are
- 16:42Speaker 1: you seeing out of him? Man? Such a productive guy,
- 16:46Speaker 1: a guy who really embodied what it was to be
- 16:48Speaker 1: a notre dame man and just carried himself well on
- 16:51Speaker 1: and off the field. I love what he's able to
- 16:54Speaker 1: do inline and you know split out. There were multiple
- 16:58Speaker 1: times he was able to kind of put the shakes,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you know, break the ankles of safeties in the slot.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Seems like he's really got really a good quick twitch um,
- 17:06Speaker 1: and he's a physical guy who can block. So when
- 17:08Speaker 1: you look at an all around tight end which teams
- 17:11Speaker 1: are looking for in the NFL, Michael definitely you know,
- 17:13Speaker 1: brings that to the table. And of course always edge
- 17:15Speaker 1: at a premium. What do you think Isaiah can bring
- 17:18Speaker 1: h if he starts here in this rookie year in
- 17:20Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. Man, he's uh as as well as Michael.
- 17:25Speaker 1: He's just a productive player, a guy who's done it
- 17:27Speaker 1: multiple years, Notre Dame, a captain, m a guy who's
- 17:31Speaker 1: gonna have a really long career in the NFL. UM
- 17:34Speaker 1: good with his hands, strong, good and the good against
- 17:37Speaker 1: the run, but productive against you know, getting the quarterback
- 17:39Speaker 1: on the turf in the past game. So, um, they're
- 17:42Speaker 1: both gonna have incredible NFL careers as as I am.
- 17:45Speaker 1: They're in the patient waiting game as well, and you
- 17:47Speaker 1: know we'll see where they land. But um, you know
- 17:50Speaker 1: their NFL career, Um is gonna get started shortly, and
- 17:53Speaker 1: I anticipate both of them to have a good one.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And on that waiting game, Drew, you and Jackie have
- 17:58Speaker 1: been together since high school. How much say does she
- 18:01Speaker 1: have in this process and how much does she chime in?
- 18:05Speaker 1: We do everything together. We're a team, we're a unit.
- 18:07Speaker 1: We roll as one, and so we're constantly talking back
- 18:10Speaker 1: and forth about what's going to be best for our family.
- 18:14Speaker 1: And so I'm just thankful to have her as my
- 18:16Speaker 1: partner going through this. Um Uh. She's an amazing woman.
- 18:20Speaker 1: She's so invested in it. She's so invested in what
- 18:23Speaker 1: is passionate when I'm passionate about And I'm so thankful
- 18:26Speaker 1: to have somebody in life that, um you know, loves
- 18:30Speaker 1: the things that I love and wants to support me
- 18:32Speaker 1: in then. And so we're riding together and we'll see
- 18:35Speaker 1: where it takes us. Andrew, we appreciate you. We're thankful
- 18:38Speaker 1: for you, and also thankful that you helped tell the
- 18:41Speaker 1: stories of some guys on the podcast on the Drew
- 18:44Speaker 1: Tranquil Show that we might not necessarily getting fans might
- 18:47Speaker 1: not necessarily get otherwise. Of good luck to you and
- 18:49Speaker 1: to Jackie going in the next week. And hopefully this
- 18:52Speaker 1: process plays out as you guys deserve it too. Thanks
- 18:54Speaker 1: Mat Yeah, thanks so much for your time. Patrick. We'll
- 18:57Speaker 1: see it back here on NFL Now and the per
- 19:02Speaker 1: day specials on Path to the Draft get fired up

- 19:29Speaker 1: dot com and sign up today. The Kansas City Chiefs
- 19:33Speaker 1: have some plans to work on that offensive line. They
- 19:36Speaker 1: didn't use the franchise head on Orlando Brown going to
- 19:39Speaker 1: Fridgen See also releasing Frank Clark. There have been some
- 19:43Speaker 1: changeover with regard to the Super Bowl champion, so let's
- 19:46Speaker 1: discuss the Kansas City Chiefs with our own James Palmer.
- 19:50Speaker 1: So Frank Clark Orlando Brown going to be in the
- 19:53Speaker 1: free agency waters, could either of them or both be
- 19:56Speaker 1: back in Kansas City. Well, we're looking at that left
- 19:59Speaker 1: tackle spot and possibly Orlando Brown comes back, but you
- 20:02Speaker 1: saw what happened with them not tagging him, Pa Patrick.
- 20:05Speaker 1: What they're really looking to do is fix that left
- 20:07Speaker 1: tackle spot long term this offseason before the start of
- 20:11Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. Now they have a couple of options
- 20:13Speaker 1: they can go about it. They can find a better
- 20:15Speaker 1: and stop gap type of player, say Donovan Smith who
- 20:18Speaker 1: was just released in Tampa Bay, and they can go
- 20:20Speaker 1: and draft a left tackle and have him sit for
- 20:23Speaker 1: a year and then be the future of the franchise,
- 20:25Speaker 1: but he's on the roster this offseason. They could draft
- 20:28Speaker 1: a right tackle that those are some available at the
- 20:30Speaker 1: end of that first round, and have that guy play
- 20:32Speaker 1: right tackle for a season, then slide over and play
- 20:35Speaker 1: left tackle. Those are some options there. But at the
- 20:37Speaker 1: same time, they're in a different spot than some other
- 20:39Speaker 1: teams around the league in terms of their confidence level
- 20:41Speaker 1: of playing a rookie right away at left tackle. If
- 20:44Speaker 1: you remember what happened after they lost to the Bucks
- 20:46Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl, they went out and they got
- 20:48Speaker 1: Creed Humphrey at center, Tray Smith at that right guard spot,
- 20:52Speaker 1: and both of them played every snap right away and
- 20:54Speaker 1: have since that happened. They could play a left tackle
- 20:57Speaker 1: specifically also because of their left guard and Joe Tuney
- 21:01Speaker 1: remember what he did for Orlando Brown when he came
- 21:03Speaker 1: over in that trade, slid over to that left tackle spot.
- 21:06Speaker 1: He is so smart, such a great leader, great player.
- 21:09Speaker 1: They know with Tuney at that left guard spot, it
- 21:11Speaker 1: really could help out a rookie left tackle playing and
- 21:14Speaker 1: they would be comfortable doing it as we saw them
- 21:17Speaker 1: play eight rookies in the Super Bowl. Yeah, they're doing
- 21:20Speaker 1: so and having as much success as you could possibly
- 21:22Speaker 1: have and winning a world championship. Let's keep it in
- 21:24Speaker 1: the division with a team that did not have as
- 21:27Speaker 1: much success, the Denver Broncos. What should they do? What
- 21:30Speaker 1: are Sean Payton's plans are going into free agency here? Well,
- 21:34Speaker 1: right now, Pastrion, they have about nine million dollars in
- 21:37Speaker 1: cap space, and a couple of moves and a couple
- 21:39Speaker 1: of wiggles, they could get that up to about thirty
- 21:41Speaker 1: million dollars. And really we're all looking at what they
- 21:43Speaker 1: do with this offensive line, right It's something that Sean
- 21:45Speaker 1: Payton went and fixed immediately when Drew Brees arrived and
- 21:48Speaker 1: he was there in New Orleans and he changed that
- 21:50Speaker 1: group over entirely. This is a group that needs that.
- 21:53Speaker 1: General Major George Payton said it at the combine, we
- 21:55Speaker 1: need to make changes on our offensive line. They allowed
- 21:58Speaker 1: an NFL high sixty three sacks this past season. Now,
- 22:01Speaker 1: some of those are on Russell Wilson, but that group
- 22:03Speaker 1: also was littered with injuries. Now they do get their
- 22:05Speaker 1: left tackle, their Pro Bowl left tackle, and Garrett Bowl's
- 22:08Speaker 1: back after a broken leg he suffered in Week five
- 22:10Speaker 1: last season. Then they have Quinn Miners, who's a right
- 22:12Speaker 1: guard who they could keep in the mix on that group.
- 22:15Speaker 1: But that's about it. Right tackle is something they've been
- 22:17Speaker 1: trying to fix for the last eight seasons. Now, free
- 22:19Speaker 1: agency is gonna be something we're gonna keep an eye
- 22:22Speaker 1: on because we know they don't have a ton of picks.
- 22:23Speaker 1: So see what they do in terms of who Sean
- 22:25Speaker 1: Payton likes in terms of plugging in and free agency,
- 22:28Speaker 1: but also the draft with pick sixty seven and sixty eight,
- 22:31Speaker 1: those with their first two in this draft because of
- 22:33Speaker 1: the Russell Wilson trade, they do believe there's interior offensive
- 22:37Speaker 1: lineman that could fit around that spot of the draft. Also,
- 22:39Speaker 1: keep your eye on running backs, considering this as a
- 22:42Speaker 1: deep draft in running backs, and there's deep running backs.
- 22:44Speaker 1: In terms of free agency, I think Mark's gonna talk
- 22:46Speaker 1: about that a little bit. They could have their pick
- 22:48Speaker 1: without overspending to help out a backfield as they try
- 22:52Speaker 1: to get healthier back there in a sense as well. Yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 1: Week four, ACL tariff for Javonte Williams. Give him some
- 22:59Speaker 1: tent at some time to get back and show that
- 23:01Speaker 1: promise that he had to start his NFL career in
- 23:03Speaker 1: James Palmer looking in at the af See West, Thanks
- 23:05Speaker 1: James Dore. We go, we go, we don't play, We
- 23:09Speaker 1: don't place my white? Do we go? We go? We
- 23:14Speaker 1: don't make? We don't race by hunt touchdown on second
- 23:22Speaker 1: of the night for Jamal Williams. Why what a move
- 23:25Speaker 1: he decided to run angry gotown goes fever. Do we go?
- 23:31Speaker 1: We don't do? We go? We don't make? Looking forward
- 23:43Speaker 1: to free agency frenzy on Sunday. But here on Friday,
- 23:46Speaker 1: let's mark the spot. Let's bring in our front office
- 23:49Speaker 1: perspective with Mark Ross as Mark, We're gonna chart the
- 23:51Speaker 1: locations the destinations for some of these free agent running backs.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Let's start with the dude leading the NFL and rushing touchdowns,
- 23:57Speaker 1: Jamal Williams, where's the spot man? Jamal Williams has got
- 24:01Speaker 1: to go back to Detroit. Patrick. I mean, when you've
- 24:04Speaker 1: got a person there that it was productive as a player,
- 24:08Speaker 1: which he was when they signed him. Detroit signed him
- 24:10Speaker 1: in the free agent in twenty one. But also it
- 24:13Speaker 1: comes down to be off the field as well. Jamal
- 24:16Speaker 1: Williams has been a leader. He's beloved by the fans,
- 24:18Speaker 1: beloved by his teammates. So it's not just the on
- 24:21Speaker 1: field play, it's the total package of a player on
- 24:23Speaker 1: and off the field. And when you're comfortable with a
- 24:25Speaker 1: player and you have a great fit with the player
- 24:28Speaker 1: on the field and off, there's no need to look
- 24:30Speaker 1: outside to try to replace him. DeAndre Swift, the first
- 24:33Speaker 1: round pick from a couple of years ago, really hasn't
- 24:35Speaker 1: lived up the expectations. Jamal Williams has over exceeded his
- 24:40Speaker 1: expectations when they signed him. So you gotta keep Jamal
- 24:43Speaker 1: Williams there in Detroit. Okay, let's leave Jamal Williams. We'll
- 24:47Speaker 1: go from a guy who scored zero touchdowns a couple
- 24:49Speaker 1: of seasons to go to having almost a career year
- 24:51Speaker 1: of Miles Sanders over twelve hundred yards rushing, eleven touchdowns.
- 24:55Speaker 1: What's the spot, Mark, Well, Miles Sanders. Let's get him
- 24:59Speaker 1: in Cincinnati with the Cincinnati Bengals. You mentioned Miles Sanders
- 25:03Speaker 1: ascension and improvement, and I don't think he has a
- 25:05Speaker 1: lot left. He's been in one prolific offense. Now with Cincinnati.
- 25:10Speaker 1: You know Joe Mixon is there, who knows if he's
- 25:12Speaker 1: going to be a cat casualty cut there? So my
- 25:15Speaker 1: JP Ryan's a free agent. But Miles Sanders offers a
- 25:18Speaker 1: different sort of player than those two guys were brinded out.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Joe Mixon flashes here and there, but Miles Sanders is
- 25:25Speaker 1: really that home run hitter. Get him mountain space. We
- 25:28Speaker 1: know about the prolific offense already with Burrow and Chase
- 25:31Speaker 1: and hopefully get T Higgins back and Tyler Boyd, but
- 25:34Speaker 1: that opens it up for Miles Sanders. The best thing
- 25:36Speaker 1: he does is slash and create big yards. Just a
- 25:40Speaker 1: different sort of playmaker than the running backs they've had
- 25:42Speaker 1: in the past, and I think he could really open
- 25:44Speaker 1: up this offense more so than what they've had there.
- 25:47Speaker 1: And Joe Burrow and those guys will love Miles Sanders
- 25:50Speaker 1: with the hooday nation there. All right, we'll leave the
- 25:53Speaker 1: running backs behind and look at the offensive tackles. Let's
- 25:56Speaker 1: talk about Orlando Brown mark because with two franchises now,
- 25:59Speaker 1: he's been very good, but just not good enough in
- 26:02Speaker 1: their view to get a long term deal. Give us
- 26:04Speaker 1: the spot for sure. Where's he going to get at
- 26:07Speaker 1: some money from a team that depreciates him. Well, the
- 26:09Speaker 1: Bears got a lot of money and they better have
- 26:11Speaker 1: a lot of love for him because they got to
- 26:13Speaker 1: get justin fields. Right, It's all about justin fields. And
- 26:16Speaker 1: you just mentioned Orlando Brown has played for two of
- 26:19Speaker 1: the most prolific offenses and quarterback backs blocked for both
- 26:22Speaker 1: of those guys. Well up, now let's go block for
- 26:25Speaker 1: the next guy who I think can take that step
- 26:27Speaker 1: and be in the upper echelon of quarterbacks, and that's
- 26:29Speaker 1: justin fields. Look, you may have to overpay for Orlando Brown.
- 26:34Speaker 1: The Chiefs and Ravens were a position that they did
- 26:37Speaker 1: not have to do that. But the Bears are in
- 26:39Speaker 1: a completely different situation now where they're trying to ascend.
- 26:42Speaker 1: They're trying to see what they have with justin fields.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Justin Fields cannot go back out on that field next
- 26:48Speaker 1: year and have to be a one man show. You
- 26:50Speaker 1: have to put pieces around him to maximize what he does,
- 26:54Speaker 1: and every play doesn't have to be on him, where
- 26:56Speaker 1: he can just fully develop at his own pace. And
- 26:58Speaker 1: I think Orlando Brown would be a first step of
- 27:01Speaker 1: many that the Bears need to make Patrick all right
- 27:03Speaker 1: big would be a big pickup for them. Let's finish
- 27:05Speaker 1: this up mark with Javon Hargrave with the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Let's the spot there, Yeah, Javon Hargrave, Let's get him
- 27:13Speaker 1: out of Arizona. So with his former coach there, Jonathan Gannon,
- 27:16Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator in Philly, Javon Hargrave after leaving the
- 27:20Speaker 1: Steelers going to Philly, another guy that really took another
- 27:23Speaker 1: step and really exploded around all that talent around him.
- 27:26Speaker 1: And with free agency, your scouts evaluate these guys and
- 27:30Speaker 1: they put grave on him. But also your coaches look
- 27:32Speaker 1: at these guys ingraded and head coaches have a lot
- 27:34Speaker 1: of say in who gets signed and who doesn't get signed.
- 27:38Speaker 1: And here you have Jonathan Gannon going to a new place,
- 27:40Speaker 1: trying to establish a new identity, put his stamp on
- 27:44Speaker 1: this team. And a lot of times coaches will bring
- 27:46Speaker 1: players with them who were a part of what their
- 27:49Speaker 1: success was in the pass and Javon Hargrave was definitely
- 27:52Speaker 1: a pillar of what Jonathan Gannon didn't the success that
- 27:55Speaker 1: they had in Philly. So what better way to go. Hey,
- 27:58Speaker 1: I'm going to new spot, going out to the desert.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Let me bring my guy Hargrave here to show these
- 28:02Speaker 1: guys how to work and how to implement my system,
- 28:04Speaker 1: but also be a heck of a playmaker in that
- 28:07Speaker 1: d Now, and you're a heck of a playmaker market,
- 28:09Speaker 1: Why do we even need free agency? We got marks
- 28:11Speaker 1: the spot here and it's and it's initial voyage. Just
- 28:16Speaker 1: I just stay home and relax. Yeah, just charting the course.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Thanks to Mark Ross here on NFL Now. We'll be
