Latest / Sea Hawkers Podcast: for Seattle Seahawks fans / 3 IN, 3 OUT: Do the Seahawks Have a Fleury Problem?
Transcript
- 0:09Clinton: Welcome in.
- 0:10Welcome in.
- 0:11Welcome once again to the newest edition of 3 In 3 Out, the most unique
- 0:16Seahawks recap show in the multiverse.
- 0:18I'm Clinton Bonner.
- 0:19I'm joined by my very good buddy, Adam Emmert.
- 0:22Adam, the Seahawks fall to…
- 0:24No, no, no.
- 0:25The Seahawks go to 3-1.
- 0:28We didn't lose.
- 0:29There's a lot of consternation out there.
- 0:31There's lots of discussions.
- 0:32We're gonna hit some big topics tonight.
- 0:35We're gonna hit, I think, the biggest topics.
- 0:37We're gonna do it nooks and cranny style, traditional three ins,
- 0:41three outs, maybe some sprinkles.
- 0:44Buddy, how are you doing because it might not have been pretty, but we're 3-1.
- 0:49Adam: Oh, it's better to win than it is to lose, as the
- 0:51great Brandan Schulze always says-
- 0:52on our show here.
- 0:54And so the winning does kinda cure all that ails you in some ways as a team.
- 0:59Mm-hmm.
- 0:59But, I'm kinda with you, man.
- 1:01Like, I was pretty frustrated watching the game, and I was grumpy, like,
- 1:05watching the game to start with.
- 1:07And so when we got done with it, I was like, "Am I just grumpy about this?"
- 1:10I'm grumpy.
- 1:10Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10Like, was it really that bad?
- 1:11And it was kinda nice, too, though.
- 1:12The rest of the 12s are like, "Wait a second, that's, we
- 1:15can't be playing like that."
- 1:16Clinton: Yeah, I was grumpy today.
- 1:18and I don't think it was really…
- 1:20I kinda let the…
- 1:21We talked about this last night.
- 1:22You guys had a great recap show.
- 1:24People should go check that out.
- 1:25And after, after the…
- 1:26You know, I produced it last night and hopped on.
- 1:28I was like, you know, some, some…
- 1:29Many times you wanna forget a loss right away.
- 1:31I was like, today it was like, you know, there's good stuff and we're gonna
- 1:34unearth a good amount of that good stuff in this episode, so stick around for it.
- 1:38But in many ways also, you know, the biggest topic of all those penalties,
- 1:41like, I just wanted to wash it away and be like, "Okay, cool, we beat a team
- 1:44that isn't playing very good football.
- 1:46We gotta go play an undefeated team who is our biggest rival still."
- 1:50We're gonna get to all that, but we're gonna cover this
- 1:52game like nobody else does.
- 1:53But before we do that, Adam, remind me, who is the current
- 1:57champions of the world right now?
- 1:59Adam: These dudes right here, the Seattle Seahawks, because they're the
- 2:02best team in the country, the world- … everywhere, the universe, the galaxy for
- 2:05that matter, and still current champions, and they actually showed some championship
- 2:09mettle in this last game, Clinton.
- 2:11I agree.
- 2:11Like, if you're not playing well and you're making a lot of mistakes and
- 2:13you can still win an NFL football game, you are a damn good football team.
- 2:18Clinton: Yeah, and a damn good executive live producer is Ryan911.
- 2:22He's…
- 2:22Oh, he's, he's the man.
- 2:23He's the man in Discord, he's the man live.
- 2:25I bet you he's the man in, in real life too, I'm sure of it.
- 2:28A $9.99
- 2:29super chat saying, "Go Hawks."
- 2:30Go Hawks, Ryan.
- 2:30You're the best, dude.
- 2:31We appreciate you an absolute ton.
- 2:34And of course, anybody that's out there, the biggest help you can
- 2:37give, besides if you wanna be an executive live producer, well then,
- 2:40come for the crown, Ryan's saying.
- 2:41But if you want to, hit the like, hit the subscribe, drop the comments,
- 2:45hype the videos, do all the things because it matters so much more
- 2:49than you probably even know.
- 2:51You know you hear it every single video, but people say it for a reason,
- 2:54because it re- really does help.
- 2:56It tells YouTube to s- you know, share this with other people
- 2:59with like interests, which…
- 3:00So do those things.
- 3:01And if you kinda do the things out on YouTube, then you're gonna get notified
- 3:06about really cool polls we put out there, probably, like, semi-weekly at this point.
- 3:10I thought this was a fascinating question from Salk this morning.
- 3:13So from Brock and Salk, of course, 710 Seattle Sports, all credit over to them:
- 3:18Are you more pumped to be 3-1 knowing we haven't played a great football, our best
- 3:23football yet, or are you more concerned because our play is not good enough and
- 3:27better teams will take advantage of it?
- 3:29Adam, how d- how did the Flockers do with their voting?
- 3:32It was pretty close, actually.
- 3:34Adam: Yeah.
- 3:34They were, they were a little split on this one, and that is surprising to me.
- 3:3854% more pumped it will get cleaned up to 46% concerned, not sustainable football.
- 3:44And I definitely fall in the 54%, and honestly fairly strongly.
- 3:48Mm-hmm.
- 3:48Because if there's one thing that we know about Coach Mike, is that when he
- 3:52sees problems, he goes right through it.
- 3:54He never goes around it.
- 3:55Just as he says, right?
- 3:56He will have this sorted, and this team will play cleaner football.
- 4:00Clinton: Yeah.
- 4:01So we got, we got the Snail saying, "Well, don't worry about Joe Mixon
- 4:04is gonna save the run game, Adam."
- 4:06Adam?
- 4:08Adam: so here's gonna be my policy on Joe Mixon
- 4:11going forward on this podcast.
- 4:12people that punch women in the face, I don't care if it's 12 years ago, will
- 4:16not be, praised or cheered from me.
- 4:19So if he has a nice play, he will have ran for 13 yards.
- 4:22Like, it's not gonna be good.
- 4:24I won't care.
- 4:25I hope he never suits up for this team.
- 4:28look man, it's a line for me.
- 4:31Yeah.
- 4:31If it's not for you, dear listener, then I totally understand.
- 4:34Yeah.
- 4:34But that's just how it's gonna be for me.
- 4:36Clinton: Yeah.
- 4:36for sure.
- 4:37I didn't even know about it until, like, I…
- 4:39honestly, like a couple days ago.
- 4:41but you know, not, not something I, I want to cheer for ever, either.
- 4:45Except for, of course, I always wanna cheer for the Seahawks.
- 4:47I'm gonna cheer for the front of the uniform, I'm gonna
- 4:49cheer for the helmet of course.
- 4:50and we'll see what happens with Mixon.
- 4:52It is news, we signed Mixon if this is new to you.
- 4:55We'll see how it goes.
- 4:56I mean, I…
- 4:56We'll, we'll get into some of the run game today in three and
- 4:59three out and some of the reasons about maybe we don't need Mixon.
- 5:02Plus we got dudes coming back who are gonna get healthy.
- 5:04So we will talk about all of that as well.
- 5:06All right.
- 5:07So we're gonna get to the ins, we're gonna get to the outs, we're gonna get
- 5:09to, the, some of the sprinkles.
- 5:11We're gonna get to the MVC, the most valuable cranny.
- 5:14We're gonna get to From the Flock at the second half of the show,
- 5:17where we look at the comments from the Discord members doing it right
- 5:21from our, our awesome Discord.
- 5:22But Adam, I know there's a rule, I forget the rule every single time.
- 5:25I forget the rule.
- 5:26There's one rule in three and three out.
- 5:27Please remind me, what is that rule I cannot remember ever?
- 5:30Adam: I needed you about an hour ago, Clinton, because,
- 5:33apparently I forgot the rule as well.
- 5:35But when we, when we start with an in, and when I started arranging all
- 5:38of our clips for today, I started with outs, man, because kinda like you were
- 5:41saying at the beginning of the pod.
- 5:43Almost felt a little more like a loss than it did a win, but it was a win.
- 5:47So we're starting with ins, baby.
- 5:48Clinton: We are starting with an in, and I hope, you know, I think
- 5:51the order that I gave them to you.
- 5:52Let's see.
- 5:52If they're not in the same order, we'll, we'll just dance on our feet.
- 5:54I love it.
- 5:54It's okay.
- 5:55Fair enough.
- 5:55You've been kind enough to clip the videos this, this time around this
- 5:58year, so I'm very, very grateful for that, 'cause that is a huge time-saver.
- 6:01Look, this first in, we're gonna go to quarter two.
- 6:05A lot of game had been played to this point, and we're calling this one, I'm
- 6:08calling this one wide zone speed dream.
- 6:12So quarter two, 6:19 to go.
- 6:14It's a first and 10.
- 6:16Seattle is on the move, a pretty good-looking drive, and that good-looking
- 6:20drive's about to get a lot better looking.
- 6:21We wanna talk about this not only because of the personnel.
- 6:25We wanna talk about the way this play was executed.
- 6:27Adam, take it away.
- 6:28Adam: All right.
- 6:29Well, as you said, a little outside, run here, and it is a dream because
- 6:34it turns into a Shaheed touchdown here.
- 6:36So for those of you listening, audio only, looks like we've got,
- 6:4013 p- or 12 personnel out here.
- 6:43We got, what, two receivers here at the top, tight end here in Barner, and
- 6:47then, JSN down at the bottom, a single receiver split out to the right.
- 6:52And we have, and this is interesting, a little Rashid Shaheed.
- 6:56Isn't he a wide receiver, Clinton?
- 6:57Why is he back
- 6:58Clinton: there?
- 6:58He, because he's really, really fast.
- 7:00Adam: He is really, really fast.
- 7:02So
- 7:02Clinton: let's- And he's good with the ball, good with the ball in space, too.
- 7:03We'll see that.
- 7:04Adam: You bet.
- 7:05So let's take a look at how this play kind of, ends
- 7:07up here as we work through it.
- 7:10So we start out, Sam's under center.
- 7:12He takes the snap, and it's just a quick toss to Shaheed here on the outside.
- 7:16And while Shaheed's run is nice, and we're gonna talk a lot about h-
- 7:19some of his decisions through this-
- 7:21Clinton: Mm-hmm
- 7:21… Adam: oh, my stars.
- 7:23The blocking, the blocking on this play, Clinton.
- 7:26Oh, I'm sorry, it was Holani at the top of the screen.
- 7:28So you had a running back at the top of the screen.
- 7:30So it looks like we were, we had, -
- 7:33Clinton: Well, 22 or 21 … much
- 7:35Adam: gr- Yeah … 21, yeah, out there.
- 7:36So all right.
- 7:37So pitch to Shaheed, and first and foremost here, it's interesting
- 7:42to see how, Cross and Zabel work here in regards to- this
- 7:48defensive lineman right here.
- 7:49And what Cross's assignment is in comparison to Zabel's- Mm-hmm … because
- 7:53honestly, when I really got into the gritty of this, Clinton, it's
- 7:57the Zabel play here that makes all this happen from the very get.
- 8:00But as we watch Cross, he starts to move out here along with Barner and,
- 8:06Holani, who's gonna try to pin this down.
- 8:08And basically what they're doing is they're running kind of a
- 8:09little bit of outside zone.
- 8:12And you see Cross, they let the, they let, the end here through.
- 8:17Cross, he takes care of him, and I think initially they're hoping
- 8:21that he's gonna get out here and be able to turn him inside.
- 8:22He's not able to do that, so he just kinda rides him to the outside.
- 8:26Shaheed makes a nice read there.
- 8:27But what's really impressive here, watch Zabel.
- 8:29Clinton: Yeah, it's perfect.
- 8:30Adam: Watch Zabel.
- 8:31Since Cross is pulling out here, he's gotta get across the face of this D
- 8:36lineman and get to the outside shoulder.
- 8:39And you can see he's working it, driving his legs, doing an awesome job right here.
- 8:44Then he gets right here, and he gets him turned.
- 8:46Yep.
- 8:46And he pins him to the inside, and that's what creates a seam here and a seam here.
- 8:51And then you run right down here.
- 8:52So Shaheed makes a great read right here at the top when he
- 8:55sees Cross have to push, the charger here out to the outside.
- 9:01Cuts it back up, then starts to follow his blockers, and holy smokes, man,
- 9:05like, we see another great block developing Right here with Cooper Kupp.
- 9:13He comes up here and he gets a fantastic block right here.
- 9:16Barner, he knows he's gonna wanna try to seal this guy to the outside.
- 9:19He does that really, really well as well, and creates that seam.
- 9:24And then Shegun.
- 9:25And here is what makes JSN the best receiver in the league.
- 9:29It's not that he leads the league and everything because he's a stud at catching
- 9:33the football and doing awesome football things, but look at this effort to get
- 9:38downfield here and get on the safety.
- 9:41Gets down there.
- 9:42Mm-hmm.
- 9:42Maybe a block in the back.
- 9:43I don't know.
- 9:44Clinton: No, look, if- You know how
- 9:45Adam: this called
- 9:45Clinton: there.
- 9:45Yeah, you know?
- 9:46Yeah, but the DB turns his back to you, you know, that- Not your ball, right?
- 9:49It's not, it's not a block in the back.
- 9:50Adam: So.
- 9:50Oh, well, this associated crew, they, they
- 9:51Clinton: call it every which way, apparently.
- 9:52That's true.
- 9:52There was, there was, there were things.
- 9:53And then- There were, there were ticky-tacks.
- 9:55Yeah, for sure.
- 9:56Adam: And then Shaheed to the house.
- 9:57Clinton: Yeah.
- 9:57Beautiful.
- 9:58End of
- 9:58Adam: celebration.
- 9:58Clinton: Game point.
- 9:59Beautifully done.
- 9:59And I know we got the other angle coming up, too.
- 10:01Yeah.
- 10:01I think the star of the show, like you pointed out, is the Zabel, 'cause
- 10:04he had the, I think he had to do the most athletic thing to get there,
- 10:07turn the, turn a big man, seal it.
- 10:09But everybody wins.
- 10:11Everybody, every single person you called out here, starting with
- 10:14Alani, with Cross, with Kupp, with JSN downfield, every single, Barner.
- 10:18Every, we win across every single level.
- 10:21And the beauty of this, and I saw a comment from a, I think
- 10:24it was Liver- Liverpool chap.
- 10:26We wanna talk about that, 'cause this is to me is a, a big topic coming up.
- 10:29There's people that are, like, saying that Fleury's not, basically, "Hey,
- 10:33he's not a good OC, he's not Kubiak."
- 10:35I, I want to, I don't wanna get emotional, but I want to start- Yeah.
- 10:39I want pe- but I want people to understand…
- 10:41I probably do wanna get emotional.
- 10:42but I want people to under- a couple things for me, it's
- 10:45like, A, this is game four.
- 10:48Number two, when you win, this is as good as a wide zone scheme gets right here,
- 10:53running to the boundary, or running to the field, I should say, and using
- 10:58beautiful athleticism to your advantage.
- 11:00And when you give maybe Fleury the right kinda horsepower to run the thing
- 11:05he wants to go run, I think this is the results you get with a, with a…
- 11:10I think I tweeted yesterday, or in the Discord, I was like, you know, it's
- 11:12kinda, it's cool, kinda cool to have Shead back there, 'cause it gives you
- 11:15like a Jahmyr Gibbs out of nowhere.
- 11:17Like, that kind of talent out of nowhere, we saw the Niners do
- 11:22with many years with Prime Deebo, and we get a little taste of it.
- 11:25And I think this will set things up not only for next week verse the Niners,
- 11:29Adam, but I also wanna talk about in a second, w- after I pass it back to
- 11:32you, what this might set, set up, formation-wise down the road, too.
- 11:36So, I just don't see the Fleury discussion like many people are right now, and I
- 11:41think this is a good proof point of, hey, he's got the right guys out there.
- 11:44We're gonna get really good results when we execute well
- 11:47Adam: We do.
- 11:47And I think one of the important things to talk about with this play
- 11:50is throughout the game, Clinton, we could not get to the edge.
- 11:53And whether that was Holani or Wilson, they look like they're running with
- 11:56concrete boots when they get out there and they're trying to catch the edge.
- 11:59Clinton: And so- Going horizontal, it's tough for them.
- 12:01Adam: It is tough for them.
- 12:02So what I think this is an example of is Fleury seeing that within the game and
- 12:06being like, 'Look, this offense, this Shanahan offense, this is predicated
- 12:11by getting people moving horizontally.'
- 12:13And that's just what they do here, right?
- 12:15And Look, I think the adjustment to get Shaheed back there, a guy who
- 12:20actually has really nice vision, for a running back, and that's why
- 12:24he's so damn good at kickoffs too.
- 12:25Clinton: Yes.
- 12:26Adam: And, and get him the rock, and then get him moving north and south,
- 12:29and then it's good night Irene, right?
- 12:31It's, it's a touchdown right here.
- 12:32But this is a great, great angle to kinda check out the Zabel block-
- 12:37Yeah … 'cause you get to see it a little bit better, see him and
- 12:40all the effort that he makes there to get that man turned right there.
- 12:43That is … It's just upper level stuff.
- 12:46I think the other cool thing from this angle to watch is, is
- 12:48watch our center, Sundell here.
- 12:50Clinton: Mm-hmm.
- 12:50Mm-hmm.
- 12:50Adam: Like, his speed as a center is actually really nice, and his awareness.
- 12:53Look, watch his smarts here as he gets up here.
- 12:56So as he's moving to the second level, he's probably supposed to target 53 here.
- 13:00That's exactly where he's looking, right?
- 13:02Clinton: Mm-hmm.
- 13:02Adam: So he starts running, and he looks, and he sees right about
- 13:06here, he sees that Kupp is gonna be able to come up and engage 53.
- 13:11So he says, "Well, screw that.
- 13:13I don't need to do that.
- 13:14I'm going to the third level, baby."
- 13:15Yeah, exactly.
- 13:16So he gets all the way up here to number two, and it's not an amazing block,
- 13:19but he gets in his way, turns him, and that little bit of, the little bit of,
- 13:24you know, blockage there, just to make that guy hesitate just a little
- 13:27bit, that allows Shaheed to catch this and get downhill and get the touchdown.
- 13:32Just a beautiful play.
- 13:33Clinton: Very, very beautifully done.
- 13:34I saw Ryan's, comment there saying he loves se- seeing Shaheed out wide,
- 13:38you know, with these kind of plays, and, and Wilson up the middle.
- 13:41And we're not gonna get into all the plays, just we, we just can't.
- 13:44We screened really well in this game.
- 13:46And when we screened to Wilson, his ability to get from, like, you know,
- 13:50what, well, zero to zero, but f- for him to get up to speed with, with
- 13:54good pace and a head of steam when he's just going north, it's good.
- 13:59And then he's, then he makes pretty good reads with- within those moments.
- 14:02It is when they're trying the real stretch zone stuff that
- 14:05it's not always successful.
- 14:06It's actually less successful than it is likely to succeed.
- 14:09It's a beautiful thing to see Fleury understand the players, set up Shaheed
- 14:15this way, but then give Wilson a, really good, attempts and, and, and,
- 14:20chances on little dump-off screens where he's just gotta go north, you know?
- 14:24Yeah.
- 14:24And do, do the job.
- 14:25So again, I think it's a testament.
- 14:27I think, I think Fleury's pretty good at OC.
- 14:29It's not all perfect yet, but I thought it was, it was marked improvement.
- 14:33One last thing I wanna point on this play before we get to our first doubt
- 14:36is, I could almost guarantee you, and this is what a good OC will do, is
- 14:41later in the season, I'm not sure next week, just keep an eye out for this
- 14:44formation with Shaheed back there.
- 14:46Sometime soon, that's gonna be a fake to, to Shaheed with a, a boot and somebody
- 14:52wide open leaking out the other way that, that gives, you know, maybe that gives
- 14:56Sam an easy little read pitch and catch.
- 14:59That is something that will be set up, and they've gotta honor it because
- 15:02you gotta honor Shaheed's speed.
- 15:04Adam: Yeah, absolutely.
- 15:05Like, if that were the case, maybe they have Abe actually kinda kick out here and
- 15:08take 45, and then you kinda sneak Barner around the backside- Correct … as Sam
- 15:12kinda completes his boot, and th- that would be a nice play off of that, so.
- 15:15Clinton: Yeah,
- 15:16Adam: I think that's gonna be- A lot of options- … huge
- 15:17that's for sure.
- 15:18yeah, cool play, man.
- 15:20Yeah.
- 15:20I, I like that as our, our first Inn of the Day.
- 15:22Clinton: Yes, and we said we're gonna be traditional this one.
- 15:24Three ins, three outs, that means we gotta get to some of the stuff that wasn't as
- 15:27good, so let's get to an Out right now.
- 15:31Adam: Yeah, so,
- 15:32Clinton: what'd you have as- Well, let me, let me, let me set it up for you.
- 15:34Let me set it up for the first- Yeah,
- 15:35Adam: what was your, -
- 15:35Clinton: It's okay.
- 15:36To make sure we got the right one, too.
- 15:37But this one I, I coined it as a life without Leo, a glimpse
- 15:41into a life without Leo.
- 15:42So it's Q1, 4:26 to go, second and one.
- 15:45The Chargers are on their own 42 yard line.
- 15:49Now I call it a life without Leo because Leo ends up, you know,
- 15:52getting his ankle dinged and we don't know yet if he'll be available.
- 15:55We- it looks like it's not serious, but the Mike Macdonald Show
- 15:58today, they don't know nothing.
- 15:59It's, it's Monday.
- 16:00Even, even if they do know something, they're not telling
- 16:03you nothing till Wednesday anyway.
- 16:04That's the way the NFL works.
- 16:06But, and this is, and this play pa- in particular, I'm
- 16:09not ragging on Rylie Mills.
- 16:10I'm just trying to show what does it look like when we gotta go, nose tackle
- 16:15with, Byron Murphy as a true nose o- over the zero, shaded to a one, and
- 16:21Rylie Mills really having to take on the doubles that Murphy routinely takes on.
- 16:25Adam, what'd you see?
- 16:26Adam: Yeah, so that was a good catch by you because,
- 16:29they do double Rylie Mills here.
- 16:31I think there's something to be talked about with DeMarcus Lawrence
- 16:33from the other angle as well, and, we can talk about that.
- 16:36So what the Chargers are doing here is, they've got,
- 16:40two backs in the backfield.
- 16:41They got a tight end in motion to the bottom of the screen.
- 16:43Condensed split.
- 16:44Receiver, one receiver at the top, one receiver at the bottom, and they're gonna
- 16:47bring this, well I guess it was, like another fullback out there.
- 16:52I think it's number 40, in motion.
- 16:54And w- what basically the Chargers are doing here is they're
- 16:57gonna try to run a pin pull.
- 16:58So what they wanna do is they wanna pin these guys inside.
- 17:01They're actually gonna pull two dudes, around this direction,
- 17:05and it's gonna open up a big gap.
- 17:07And for two reasons.
- 17:08One, Rylie Mills is gonna have a difficult time holding up to this double team.
- 17:12So we see him here.
- 17:13Boom, he gets smacked there.
- 17:15Joe Alt starts to wash him down.
- 17:17We're seeing the backside of, of Rylie Mills here, and that's not
- 17:21the position that you want to be in.
- 17:23And then you see the two pullers here.
- 17:27So you're gonna see 40 come around.
- 17:28He's gonna first look at Lawrence, and there's a reason why he decides
- 17:31he's not gonna deal with Lawrence here, and it's gonna be the second
- 17:34blocker that comes down here-
- 17:35Clinton: Mm-hmm
- 17:36Adam: and actually picks up Drake Thomas, and that's what allows this
- 17:39to spring and get to the third level.
- 17:41So Thomas takes the block right here, back cuts it up inside,
- 17:46and nice little gap there, and no contact made till really what?
- 17:53Little pass of 50 here.
- 17:54Yeah.
- 17:55So tough run.
- 17:55You can't be giving up stuff like that up the middle.
- 17:58d- definitely a difficult look for the Seahawks here.
- 18:01Clinton: Yeah, for sure.
- 18:02And a- again, most, most NFL defensive tackles can't battle, double teams
- 18:08like this that are well executed with a guy of Alt's, status very often.
- 18:13But we've kinda gotten spoiled, 'cause Murphy will do the dip down to one
- 18:16knee and just, and literally just cement two dudes to keep a linebacker
- 18:20super clean to go do their job.
- 18:22But so I, I, I'm, I'm not trying to, the…
- 18:28This is more of a look into the future in general, right?
- 18:30In the sense that I'm not talking one week ahead.
- 18:33We gotta look at the fact that it's a bit of an aging defensive line.
- 18:36That's just the facts are what they are with Reed, Leo, and
- 18:39it being, you know, we already know it's DeMarcus Lawrence's last year.
- 18:42We really wanna see players like Mills take that big step forward.
- 18:46I think he's playing pretty good football, but when it comes time to,
- 18:49to battle these, these, these doubles right now, in this particular
- 18:52play, he definitely gets washed.
- 18:54But, but also, really nicely blocked.
- 18:56Like you gotta give the Char- t- tip the cap, a nice play by
- 18:59the Chargers, well executed.
- 19:00You see Drake Thomas trying to fill the hole, but he gets blasted right there.
- 19:04Real- good job by that blocker, too.
- 19:06And then, I think it's Vidal, I think it was Vidal, right, Kimani?
- 19:10He, he s- squirts through that hole with, with some vengeance.
- 19:13Play before this, Adam- Yeah … was also, was, okay, play before this- Mm-hmm
- 19:16was a nine-yard gain.
- 19:17They backed it up with a 15-yard gain.
- 19:19So right here, we were taking a couple of b- of body blows that just
- 19:22didn't really feel all that good.
- 19:24Adam: Yeah.
- 19:24So, one of the interesting things that I think helped lead to this as well
- 19:28is what DeMarcus Lawrence does here.
- 19:31So let's take a look at him.
- 19:32As he comes off the edge here, the tackle's gonna come down and
- 19:36double with Rylie Mills here.
- 19:38And instead of when the ball is handed off, instead of crashing down
- 19:45and coming back down in here, and at least making this first blocker,
- 19:4940, come up and engage him, he runs right by and takes the cheese.
- 19:54Clinton: Mm-hmm.
- 19:55Adam: So you see him, he's like, "Oh, oh no.
- 19:57That, Herbert has no ball."
- 19:59And at that point, now you got basically you got two blockers coming
- 20:04through here for poor Drake Thomas.
- 20:07Julian Love still reading this back here.
- 20:10And yeah, you just got numbers.
- 20:12Now, I think the hilarious part is, is when DeMarcus Lawrence
- 20:16here just goes right by 40.
- 20:1840's like, "You're just gonna run by?
- 20:19Okay, fine."
- 20:20Watch him as he comes up here.
- 20:22This is the most do-nothing play I've ever seen from a dude in my life.
- 20:26As he runs up here, he's like, "Oh, okay, I better go find some work."
- 20:28He's looking all around.
- 20:29He's looking over here.
- 20:30He's looking over here.
- 20:30Can't find anything yet.
- 20:31Still looking, still looking.
- 20:32Oh, I'll just run into my own dude.
- 20:34Bam.
- 20:35Then, then he just takes a tumble at the end, like right there.
- 20:38Like, great job by you, 40.
- 20:40What a play.
- 20:41Clinton: Yeah, whatever.
- 20:41Whatever that was supposed to be by, I guess, I guess 40's
- 20:44probably a fullback, but whatever.
- 20:45It's a Charger.
- 20:46I don't know who that is.
- 20:47It's okay.
- 20:47Sue me.
- 20:48But okay, that's our first out.
- 20:50Hey, they, they're calling for the Whammy brand, and I don't
- 20:53know if, if the executive producer back there, the producer, could
- 20:56pull it out and dust it off.
- 20:57I don't know.
- 20:58Maybe we gotta get to a certain amount of likes or whatever it is.
- 21:01But- Hmm … if the Whammy can make a, make a comeback, it might be the time.
- 21:04But we're gonna move on to in number two.
- 21:07Let's see.
- 21:08Is there a Whammy?
- 21:09There it is.
- 21:11You get what you want, folks.
- 21:13See that?
- 21:14If you executive live produce and you're Ryan911 and Godzera Hawk,
- 21:18also Mark executive live producing, they demand the whammy, and Adam,
- 21:22Brandan comes through with it.
- 21:23Good job.
- 21:23Good job.
- 21:24But-
- 21:24Adam: Whammy is what you'll get.
- 21:25Clinton: Yeah.
- 21:25Yeah, by, by the way, did we say thanks to Mark?
- 21:27I think Mark threw in a $10 Super Chat earlier as well.
- 21:30There it is.
- 21:31He says, "Better late than never."
- 21:32Hey, man, you were, like, just at the very beginning of this too, so thank you, Mark.
- 21:35You're the man.
- 21:36We appreciate you, you as well being an executive live producer, dude.
- 21:40All right, so in number two, Adam, call on this one.
- 21:44This PBU's for you.
- 21:46Q2, only 31 seconds to go.
- 21:49We're up 17 at this point.
- 21:51second and 8, LA's on their own 36.
- 21:54Now, we know that this ends, the half at 20 to six.
- 21:58However, however, I don't wanna let a play go or not honor a player who
- 22:04makes a heck of a play with only 31 ticks to go that really should have
- 22:08put us in position to keep them off the freaking scoreboard to end this
- 22:12half, but, it didn't happen that way, but it's not because of this play.
- 22:16Let us discuss what are you seeing on this beauty and who's doing it?
- 22:21Adam: Yeah.
- 22:21High leverage play here.
- 22:22This is gonna be Nia- Nehemiah Pritchett matched up against the receiver
- 22:25at the very top of your screen.
- 22:26Chargers go four wide, and Herbert is in gun with the back to his left.
- 22:31And, just, just watch this match up up here as he battles with the receiver on
- 22:35a, what's gonna be kind of a slant here.
- 22:38Clinton: Mm-hmm.
- 22:39Adam: So we're gonna watch release the receiver.
- 22:41Pritchett plays it with some outside leverage, so he's more on the top
- 22:45side of the defender, which is what makes this play so dang impressive.
- 22:49So at this point, when Herbert's throwing the ball, so he's already winding up.
- 22:52He's ready to throw this.
- 22:53I mean, receiver's got body position here.
- 22:55Looks like he's gonna be able to get inside here and have
- 22:58a clean look at this ball.
- 23:00But watch Pritchett work around the backside of the receiver and get his
- 23:04hand out in front, and we can barely see it in the next, viewpoint here.
- 23:09Yeah.
- 23:09But the amount that he is able to jump this and the, how far he gets his hand out
- 23:14there to break this up is unbelievable.
- 23:17Clinton: It's perfectly done, right?
- 23:19He's, he's not interfering.
- 23:20He's hip to hip.
- 23:21And throughout the week when I was on with, Mr.
- 23:24Phil and Adam for wha- I mean Brandan, for What If, and even last week when we
- 23:29were kind of examining the Commander's loss after that, I was saying, "Hey, we're
- 23:33giving up way too much stuff that is the, the really short, short field stuff."
- 23:38And like t- tight, tight end turns around five yards,
- 23:41six yards, it's in his belly.
- 23:43Slants like this.
- 23:44Just giving just too much cushion.
- 23:46So I loved that in this game we didn't suffer death by a thousand paper cuts.
- 23:52We didn't allow it.
- 23:53It just was not, it, we, I think we took a much firmer stance on
- 23:57making Herbert try to be perfect.
- 23:59And in this instance, it's just Pritchett who's, who's perfect
- 24:02because it's perfect coverage.
- 24:03It's actually a well-thrown ball.
- 24:05It's not like it's behind him.
- 24:06It's- No … right there.
- 24:07Adam: Yeah.
- 24:07Clinton: But Pritchett just wins and wins cleanly.
- 24:10And in the NFL, this is a hard thing to do.
- 24:13So recognizing that this is not, this is a big boy play from a cornerback who
- 24:17continues to step up for our Seahawks, and the progression of Pritchett from where
- 24:23he was just a couple years ago to now, it continues to impress me there, Adam.
- 24:27Adam: Oh, absolutely.
- 24:28And you know, just man coverage, mano a mano, and, getting the dub here.
- 24:32So let's go to the, the next view here from the end zone.
- 24:36So you're gonna see this flash up here at the very end of this.
- 24:39So this is pre-snap here.
- 24:41Herbert takes the snap.
- 24:43He's letting it go.
- 24:44And just, if you can catch right here, look at how far
- 24:49he is laid out for that ball.
- 24:50Clinton: Yeah.
- 24:51Adam: Like, he beat the receiver to the spot.
- 24:54That's impressive stuff, man
- 24:56Clinton: And it's also, you know, it's very likely great
- 24:58coaching and great film study.
- 25:01They're- Yeah … they, they know the personnel, they know the, they
- 25:03know the, the field position, everything they're trying to probably
- 25:06do to get into field goal range, the time, et cetera, et cetera.
- 25:10And man, it, Pritchett just wins, and it's a great, great job.
- 25:14Again, Chargers end up getting a, a three points a couple, a little bit
- 25:19later in this, in this drive, annoying as can be, but not Pritchett's fault.
- 25:23So really wanted to call him out there.
- 25:25I did see somebody, I think it's Big Bad John, have a comments,
- 25:29there it is, over on Twitter, I'll put their own on screen.
- 25:31Said, "No offense, but the dude in the blue shirt sounds just like Gavin Newsom."
- 25:34Well, couple things there, Big Bad John.
- 25:37Yeah.
- 25:37Num- number one, I don't really know what he sounds like.
- 25:40Number two, I have never tried to build a train that has not been
- 25:43built, so I don't know about that.
- 25:44Oh.
- 25:44But, I will say this, Big Bad John.
- 25:47That's so funny.
- 25:47It sounds like you're new here.
- 25:48That's, that's totally cool.
- 25:49That's the- … that, that's the part that's like, that's awesome, and if you
- 25:52are new here, dude, then please like, sub, share this with a couple twelves.
- 25:56And if I sound like Gavin Newsom, then I, then I guess I sound like Gavin Newsom.
- 25:59I just don't know.
- 25:59But, but if others think so, then, then that's, that's,
- 26:02I, I don't know if that's good or bad, but I think it is what it is.
- 26:05All right.
- 26:05So I know that PBU was good.
- 26:08I know we gotta get to some more outs, though.
- 26:10Adam, are you okay to move on?
- 26:12Adam: I am okay to move on.
- 26:13And I know you said you didn't necessarily need video for this, but I
- 26:15did include a tiny clip here because, you know, we got, we gotta look
- 26:18at one aspect of this so- Oh, cool.
- 26:20Clinton: Okay,
- 26:20Adam: yeah … that we know if there's excuses to be had here or not.
- 26:23Clinton: All right, let's hit that whammy, producer.
- 26:26Yes.
- 26:26Look at that, it's like magic.
- 26:28It's amazing.
- 26:29All right, we're calling out to…
- 26:31And yes, we talk about special teams on this show, not because we're fanatics.
- 26:35We are fanatics.
- 26:36We talk about special teams 'cause they freaking matter.
- 26:38So calling this one Funny Money Myers, 'cause very often he gets called
- 26:42Money Myers and w- with good reason.
- 26:44Q2, 6:12 to go.
- 26:46We're up 13 to three.
- 26:48It is two plays in a row by a kicker that has me pissed off.
- 26:52Adam, which one did you go to the video for?
- 26:55Let's see.
- 26:56I'll put it on screen.
- 26:57but yeah man, let's see which one.
- 26:58Okay, you went to the extra point, and we'll talk about what, what
- 27:01happens right after this extra point.
- 27:03And if we're showing it, and it's an out, Adam, does
- 27:06this go through the uprights?
- 27:07Adam: negative Ghost Rider.
- 27:08Yeah It does not.
- 27:09It buzzes the tower over here- … I think is which way it ends up going here.
- 27:13But, I, you know, I wanted to highlight one thing on this, because
- 27:17none of us know anything about kickers and the world of kickers
- 27:20because it's weird, it's insular, and they don't let us know anything.
- 27:23But I know one thing, Clinton, because I watch Ace Ventura.
- 27:27Which way do you want the laces?
- 27:28Clinton: Oh, you want the laces out.
- 27:30Adam: Laces out, Dan.
- 27:31Laces out.
- 27:33Michael Dickson nailed this.
- 27:34Laces are out.
- 27:35Laces out.
- 27:35There's no excuses here.
- 27:37Oh yeah, and he, he pushes it wide right, so- Yeah … he
- 27:39buzzes the tower out this way.
- 27:40Here's the other thing.
- 27:41Clinton: Yeah.
- 27:42Adam: It looks like he's taking a whiz right now.
- 27:45Like that's what Myers is doing.
- 27:48I don't know what this little reaction is.
- 27:50It's, it's kinda weird looking, like, mm.
- 27:53Yeah, it's a little- …
- 27:54Clinton: it's a little, frontal forward, let's call it that, right?
- 27:57Yeah.
- 27:57He's, he's just kinda leaning into the- Aw … yeah.
- 27:59he, but he really does
- 28:00Adam: push it.
- 28:00And not only that-
- 28:01Clinton: Yeah
- 28:01… Adam: but Jason, Jason.
- 28:03Okay, ball's here.
- 28:04You turn away.
- 28:06You need- Don't look away.
- 28:07Don't look away.
- 28:08Make eye contact with that thing.
- 28:09I want you to know what you did.
- 28:11Clinton: Yeah, he's making a…
- 28:12He's going through the mentals with that one.
- 28:14Yeah.
- 28:14you know, there's a little pressure, a little more pressure than
- 28:16you want to see on the outside there.
- 28:18I'm not sure if that's crashing down for the Chargers.
- 28:20He puts a little-
- 28:21Adam: No, it probably
- 28:21Clinton: is too late … he put, no, he puts a little heat on there,
- 28:23but it looks like it really affects Myers, and it shouldn't have.
- 28:26It looks like he's almost- maybe
- 28:27Adam: that's what it is.
- 28:27Clinton: I don't know.
- 28:28I don't know.
- 28:29He, but he, he…
- 28:29But it's, he's a little off balance.
- 28:31And we, obviously can't knit this too much further,
- 28:33'cause I'm not a expert kicker.
- 28:35He is.
- 28:36But he pushes it.
- 28:37But that was not the only reason that he ends up on the out- Yeah … because
- 28:41yes, we miss an extra point.
- 28:42But on s- now, and that's only a 13-3 game.
- 28:45They're within 10.
- 28:46The very next play is the kickoff.
- 28:49He misses the landing zone, and they start the ball at the 40.
- 28:52It's just this, our special teams were so damn good last year.
- 28:57And it, whether it's, kickoff coverage, which they, the, the, i- in
- 29:03this game the Chargers got to the edge a couple of times again to get balls to
- 29:06like the 32, the 40, for field position.
- 29:09He misses the landing zone.
- 29:11He missed an extra point.
- 29:12Dickson had one bad one, a couple of good ones.
- 29:14It has just not been the premier special teams that it was last year.
- 29:19Now just like our running game- It, we're, we're four games in, and I
- 29:23believe we will get this thing righted.
- 29:26But later on, we're playing the likes of, let's say, the Kansas City
- 29:29Chiefs, and if you have a lead late in that game, you can't make field,
- 29:34field, you know, possession mistakes.
- 29:36You can't make field position mistakes against these better
- 29:39teams with top-tier quarterbacks 'cause they're gonna make you pay
- 29:43Adam: Yeah, they will make you pay.
- 29:45missing the landing zone was disappointing for sure.
- 29:47Leaving points on the field, like that just lights my hair on fire.
- 29:51and the funny thing is, is it, this went in sequence too.
- 29:54Y- he misses the extra point, misses the landing zone, and then the subsequent
- 29:59Seahawks possession I think is the punt that Dickson had from deep in our own
- 30:02end, and it was just not a good one.
- 30:04And it was like, "What is going on?
- 30:06How did our amazing kickers, go into the toilet there?"
- 30:09They managed to rally throughout the game.
- 30:11It hasn't been, it hasn't been bad like it was in the pre-season.
- 30:15but you know, it's something that you look at and you go,
- 30:17"Man, we can't be doing this."
- 30:19Clinton: Yeah.
- 30:19I, I agree.
- 30:20yeah, let's go throw this one up on screen, Brandan.
- 30:22So, this from 12th Man, 78 saying, "I eventually, just
- 30:26eventually want a kicker who can do the 65 yard thing like Aubrey."
- 30:29So you know, Cam Little from the Jags got the, the huge boot.
- 30:32Aubrey from the Cowboys, absolute weapon.
- 30:34You could literally…
- 30:35It's such a weird game at this point, just get to the 50 and you got a
- 30:38legit shot at making a field goal.
- 30:40It's nuts.
- 30:41And m- I mean, Money Myers got the name Money Myers, he's
- 30:43been with us a long, long time.
- 30:45I feel you, 12th Man.
- 30:46Eventually when we go to replace him, you wanna look for that dude who's at that
- 30:50next generation leg who can, who can do the Aubrey things, because, you know,
- 30:55there's, there's multiple of them right now, and you got to figure in the college
- 30:58ranks, there's just more and more dudes who are just perfecting this craft because
- 31:01it seems to be, seems to be happening.
- 31:04So, and I saw a lively discussion in the chat too, and we love all the chat going
- 31:07on, about Price and was that a mistake.
- 31:09And look, I'll, for me, really quickly, no.
- 31:13I think Pri- I think Price is really, really good.
- 31:16It stinks that he's hurt, and I was on the, I was on the, out there
- 31:19saying, "Look, the guy fumbles the ball a couple times early.
- 31:21You kinda gotta live with it, and, and also just coach him up, and put him
- 31:25back out there and in situations like we showed with Shead earlier, where it's
- 31:28like, 'Hey, we wanna run wi- wide zone with a talented dude who can get to the
- 31:32edge and then turn the edge and, and go, you know, go do special things.'"
- 31:36I think Price will get there.
- 31:37Hopefully, Adam, the chest thing is whatever, it's the minimum, you know,
- 31:41four or five weeks off, and maybe after the bye, he's coming back healthy when
- 31:46we really need to start running the football, when the earth starts to
- 31:48get really, really cold on Sundays.
- 31:51Adam: Yeah, the Price injury is gonna hurt.
- 31:52make no about, about, make no doubt about it.
- 31:55We'll see when Sharps can get back, but hopefully it's
- 31:57a little earlier than later.
- 31:59people are kinda all over the map on their expectations as to
- 32:02when he could possibly, return.
- 32:04I mean, he's cleared to, or not cleared, but he could be eligible to come back,
- 32:09here against the 49ers at the earliest.
- 32:11We'll see if that happens.
- 32:12I kinda doubt it.
- 32:13But to go that long without a back with speed could be a big time issue
- 32:18for this offense going forward.
- 32:20Is it a mistake not paying Ken Walker or going with Price?
- 32:23Early returns?
- 32:24Yes.
- 32:25Now, does that mean that long term that it's gonna end up being a mistake?
- 32:29Later on this season, over the next couple years, we shall see.
- 32:33The season is long.
- 32:34We're only a quarter of the way through.
- 32:35Clinton: Yeah.
- 32:36Right.
- 32:36Very, very true.
- 32:37And I saw a good, good comment by KTNST, KNTST saying, "Must be, you
- 32:41know, hard to have your good game, bad game decided by one or two plays."
- 32:44Absolutely, right?
- 32:45If you're a kicker, that's…
- 32:47'Cause I mean, this show is three and three out where we
- 32:48do pick some nits, for sure.
- 32:50I don't think you're talking about that.
- 32:51I think you're talking about the kicker position, and the
- 32:53punters, and special teams.
- 32:54Yeah, it is, but-
- 32:56Adam: Yeah
- 32:57… Clinton: that's what- Such is
- 32:57Adam: life-
- 32:58Clinton: Yeah, that's what that-
- 32:59… Adam: in the spotlight,
- 32:59Clinton: you know?
- 32:59That's why they get paid $7 million a year to kick, to kick a football, right?
- 33:02And that's what they do.
- 33:03But, but yeah, I, I agree.
- 33:05That is, the pressure is gonna be super high there, so.
- 33:07And Godzera saying, "Wilson was very serv- serviceable against a decent D."
- 33:11He was.
- 33:12Was 21 for 80-something, two touchdowns, very involved in the pass game as well.
- 33:17He was very serviceable.
- 33:19And again, Fleury's job of getting him north faster, there was a
- 33:23couple times where he, he got, he got a good read to the outside.
- 33:25He was well-blocked, and he rumbled for, like, a nine yard, made a nice cut back.
- 33:29I remember one to the left-hand side in particular where he makes
- 33:32a nice cut back into the inside.
- 33:34and I thought that was a really sharp move.
- 33:36So, hey, look, also, you know, people are like, "How come he
- 33:39looks faster than last week?"
- 33:40Meaning the Commanders game.
- 33:41I mean, the Commanders game was also, it was raining.
- 33:44You know, like, it, that's just factual.
- 33:46It was, it was a sloppy, a sloppy field.
- 33:48Field was okay, but it was wet.
- 33:50So not bad from, from Emanuel whatsoever.
- 33:53In fact, good.
- 33:54I would say good.
- 33:55All right.
- 33:55So let us get on to our next in, Mr.
- 34:00Producer.
- 34:02Adam: Oh, we're waiting on the whammy.
- 34:04No whammy.
- 34:04There it
- 34:04Clinton: is.
- 34:04There it is.
- 34:05All right.
- 34:05All
- 34:05Adam: right.
- 34:06Clinton: No whammies, no whammies.
- 34:07Big money plus a spin.
- 34:09Okay, in number three, we're calling this one, he chose violence.
- 34:13At this point, we're on our way to a blowout, or what should've been a blowout.
- 34:18Yeah.
- 34:18Didn't feel like it at the end, but it was anyway.
- 34:20I, I really don't care.
- 34:21Q4, 11:08 to go, first and 10.
- 34:24The LA Chargers are on their Seattle 30 at this point, and I do bring this player
- 34:30up a lot, because he plays football the way I like to watch football, Adam.
- 34:35Who are we talking about now?
- 34:36Adam: We're talking about your boy TFL Thomas here, or
- 34:39Pull the Pin Drake right here.
- 34:40And, they're going up against the Chargers formation here, where they're
- 34:44kind of in, like, a diamond backfield.
- 34:46they've got one fullback that's kind of, in the H-back position,
- 34:50another fullback in a little more traditional fullback setting,
- 34:53the one back there in Hampton.
- 34:54But they are gonna throw out of this, or they're gonna attempt to throw.
- 34:58but Drake Thomas is having none of that nonsense, along with the rest
- 35:01of the Seahawks defensive line here.
- 35:02So they're gonna go play action.
- 35:05They fake it.
- 35:05Herbert turns his back to the defense, comes back around, and honestly
- 35:09has a decent pocket to start with.
- 35:11You can see they, there, there's not a lot around him to, to start with.
- 35:15Yeah.
- 35:15But coverage downfield was nice against these, joke show receivers.
- 35:18you know, covered up, covered up.
- 35:20Nothing really.
- 35:21Not a lot of options for Herbert on this play either, except for maybe
- 35:24also a late-leaking Hampton here.
- 35:26And he looks to Hampton first, nothing there.
- 35:28I think maybe the idea here was the, run him off and dump it
- 35:31down, 'cause kinda Herbert checks over here to, Hampton first.
- 35:35Looks up, to the top of the screen.
- 35:37I think that's Trey Harris.
- 35:38He declines that.
- 35:39By that time, we've got Dante Fowler Jr.
- 35:42Oh my gosh, Dante Fowler Jr.
- 35:43did something.
- 35:44He's actually gonna come and bring some late pressure.
- 35:48Herbert gets out of it, scrambles to his right.
- 35:50Now he sees, he's looking, man.
- 35:52Look at all of this green grass.
- 35:54Mm-hmm.
- 35:54Mm-hmm.
- 35:54And there's only one dude to hold down this fort.
- 35:56Unfortunately, he didn't realize that that was Drake Thomas, because
- 35:59Drake Thomas says, "You know what?
- 36:00I got this.
- 36:01We got two on one.
- 36:02I got this, fullback coming down on me and I've gotta take care of
- 36:05him on my way to the quarterback.
- 36:07Well, watch this.
- 36:08Bam."
- 36:09Clinton: Look
- 36:09Adam: at that.
- 36:09Yeah.
- 36:09Have a seat, son.
- 36:11Oh, that's so scary.
- 36:11It's so good.
- 36:11I don't need you.
- 36:12And then guess what, Herbert?
- 36:13You know how your ribs hurt?
- 36:14Let's see how they hurt now.
- 36:17Boom.
- 36:17Takes care of him right down to the ground.
- 36:19That is a grown ass man play, and it's even more impressive from
- 36:23the backside angle as Thomas kinda fakes a blitz, comes up, drops back.
- 36:28We see him out here.
- 36:29He's reading this.
- 36:31This man comes down.
- 36:32Mm-hmm.
- 36:32He thinks he's gonna get an easy block.
- 36:34Curtains, buddy.
- 36:35Clinton: Oh my
- 36:36Adam: goodness.
- 36:36Boom.
- 36:37Oh my goodness.
- 36:38That, talk about managers of violence right there, Clinton.
- 36:41Yeah.
- 36:41That's what we saw there.
- 36:42Clinton: He, he chose violence, so much so that like, you know, Ernest Jones,
- 36:46who by the way, had a really good game.
- 36:48He's everywhere.
- 36:49Yeah.
- 36:49He's not gonna get highlighted today.
- 36:50I think he will in From the Flock, but we can't highlight every play.
- 36:53EJ was so good.
- 36:54EJ IV.
- 36:55he, the play is so unpredictable from Drake Thomas- Yeah … that
- 37:01Ernest Jones flies by, 'cause he doesn't think he's about to do that.
- 37:04And so, you know, what normally happens in this play is you have a blocker
- 37:07coming at you and it makes a linebacker, or especially a DB, choose a side.
- 37:13Right?
- 37:13A DB, most, most DBs now, by the way, Eman and Spoon might, might choose
- 37:17violence also, 'cause they do often.
- 37:18But it, it'll make you choose a side, and then Herbert would be strong enough
- 37:22and smart enough to p- like dart to the outside and get, get three, four
- 37:25more yards and go out of bounds with- without even taking a tackle if-
- 37:29this played out like the normal way.
- 37:31But Drake Thomas is not a normal human, Adam.
- 37:33No.
- 37:33And this is the evidence right here.
- 37:35To, to, he doesn't just, like, allow the blocker to get to him.
- 37:39He decides, "Okay, I'm gonna get you out of my way," and that is just a, a
- 37:44remarkably cool choice that I saw it live, I wrote it down live, I watched
- 37:49it back later and I was like, oh my God, that is such a cool play that you just
- 37:53don't normally see from a linebacker, a quote-unquote undersized linebacker.
- 37:58Heck of a job by TFL Thomas.
- 38:00We had to highlight it.
- 38:01Adam: Oh, absolutely.
- 38:02He probably gives up a little size to this guy, and also too- Yeah … this
- 38:04dude's on like a dead sprint coming down here, and, you know, Thomas
- 38:07is basically standing still, and he still rocks the [catfish] out of him.
- 38:12Now watch, watch this dude at the end of this, man.
- 38:14He's gotta go back, woo.
- 38:16Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 38:16He's- Coming over.
- 38:17He has a seizure right here.
- 38:18He's like, "Damn, I'm never touching that guy again."
- 38:20And, yeah, that was the end of that.
- 38:22That was awesome.
- 38:24Clinton: Yeah.
- 38:24That was a, a heck of a play.
- 38:26That one, that one, that one, that one, I want that one to stick in our, in
- 38:30our grill for a long time because- Yeah
- 38:31it's just something so, so special.
- 38:33very cool.
- 38:35So again, there was plenty of chop, and we all know about the penalties, and
- 38:39there was a lot of argument about, oh, the refs, the refs are super harsh, and
- 38:43I went back, I'm like, I don't know.
- 38:44Even, even right away I'm like, I think most of those p- personal fouls are legit.
- 38:48Like, most of them are legit.
- 38:51Like five out of s- out of the seven for me were like,
- 38:53nope, those are personal fouls.
- 38:54Yeah.
- 38:54That,
- 38:54Adam: that feels right.
- 38:55Clinton: Yeah.
- 38:55two of them I think were, were ridiculous, and that's, that's fine.
- 38:59But, but there was so much good also in between all this, and there was good
- 39:04from Fleury, and there was good from Emanuel, and there was good from Sam.
- 39:08Even, even though it wasn't Sam's best day, there was still some really good st-
- 39:11stuffing, really good touches from Sam.
- 39:14And on a day where we didn't need JSN to play, you know, the spam bot b- thing.
- 39:18He didn't have to do it.
- 39:19Ball got spread around enough, and it was really running back led, you know, that
- 39:23we ran the ball well and we screened well.
- 39:26and of course don't wanna take anything away from TFL
- 39:28Thomas doing his thing here.
- 39:29All right.
- 39:30That does mean we start with an in and we gotta end with an out.
- 39:32We got one more out to get to, so let's get to it now.
- 39:37About time.
- 39:38Oh,
- 39:38Adam: Roos is all over
- 39:38Clinton: it.
- 39:38He is ready.
- 39:39Roos is ready.
- 39:40He is ready.
- 39:40All right, so for this one, for those that, might…
- 39:43So Adam, just reading those words, how might you sing what's on…
- 39:47So it's out three, where are you?
- 39:49how might you sing this?
- 39:50Adam: well, here's the thing Clinton, so I, I,
- 39:52I thought I made this clear.
- 39:53I can't see when the screen's up.
- 39:55All I can see is the play, so I can't read no words.
- 39:57So my, my song to this would be
- 40:00Clinton: Gotcha.
- 40:01Yeah, you would go, go, go with that one.
- 40:02that- Yeah … that's the Sounds of Silence right there.
- 40:04That's right.
- 40:05But it is out three, Q1, Q4, Q4.
- 40:09It's a 30 to 23 ball game right now.
- 40:11We're trying to put the game away.
- 40:13It's Q4, 1:53 to go.
- 40:16It's third and eight.
- 40:17We're on the 49, so it's like just go convert and get into
- 40:21freaking kneel down territory.
- 40:23So we're calling this one, where are you?
- 40:26And I'm so sorry, because where in the heck…
- 40:30What happens to George Holani?
- 40:32He's supposed to be back there as our blocker.
- 40:34What happens, Adam?
- 40:36Adam: Well, a, a few things happen here.
- 40:37So, for those listening once again, we've got trips to the bottom of the
- 40:40screen and, three receivers have got cup, JSN and Shaheed down here.
- 40:45We've got the one tight end, Barner at the top here, and then we've got Holani
- 40:49in the backfield with Sam Darnold to his left, and that's important because,
- 40:53the majority of the pressure here actually comes from the right side.
- 40:57Mm-hmm.
- 40:57So Chargers actually so- show zero at this beginning of this snap.
- 41:01They've got everybody mugged up on the line.
- 41:04This is a Brian Flores special.
- 41:05We've got, you know, single coverage, however it is that they wanna
- 41:08match this up, and, they're, they're gonna bring the house.
- 41:11So Sam sees this.
- 41:12He knows he's hot- Mm-hmm … but he knows that he's also got his back back
- 41:17here to try to pick up those extra dudes.
- 41:20So how many do the Chargers bring here?
- 41:21It looks like one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
- 41:25They bring eight dudes to our one, two, three, four, five, six, seven blockers.
- 41:31So there's gonna be at least, at least with no confusion,
- 41:35one dude is gonna come free.
- 41:36Mm-hmm.
- 41:37And if that's the case, then you're trained as a back to take the innermost,
- 41:41of the guys that are pressuring.
- 41:43If there's a guy coming around the outside, guy coming around
- 41:45the inside, you're trained to take the innermost guy because that
- 41:47is the most, dangerous one.
- 41:49That's the one that can get home the quickest.
- 41:51And so we'll watch Holani here as he comes across the formation knowing
- 41:54that he's gonna have to pick up a dude here, and- He kind of goes to
- 42:01just outside of Lucas and Barner.
- 42:04That's where he's starting to target because he thinks of these two
- 42:07Chargers at the top that both come.
- 42:09He's figuring one's coming in here and then one's looping out on the outside.
- 42:13But what the Chargers do instead is that both these dudes at the second guy's
- 42:17kind of on a delay and they both come around the outside and that fools Holani.
- 42:22So you see the second rusher there kind of faint to the inside.
- 42:26Then they both loop outside and by that time, the first rusher,
- 42:30he's already even with Holani.
- 42:32We've already lost that rep and it's free, free lunch there for, is it, who is that?
- 42:3843?
- 42:38Is that Khalil Mack?
- 42:39Clinton: No.
- 42:40I don't think that's Khalil, but whoever it is, Charlie, tell
- 42:43us in the comments who 43 is.
- 42:44It is a free rush.
- 42:46It's nicely schemed, right?
- 42:48So sometimes you tip your cap and all that.
- 42:50And we've highlighted, I'll use that term loosely, Holani having some
- 42:56blitz challenges before this year.
- 42:58And here it is again.
- 43:01It's like, look It's, it's tough.
- 43:03It's a tough assignment, I understand that.
- 43:05It's kind of the Indiana Jones, like y- you chose poorly.
- 43:08You know?
- 43:08It's like, okay- … you had, you had some choices there,
- 43:11but the other two guys were…
- 43:12Even after your great description of, hey, you're gonna take the inner guy 'cause the
- 43:15outer guy's gonna have just a longer path, you know, going, going to the quarterback.
- 43:19Makes total sense.
- 43:20I love that.
- 43:20So you understand why he's looking inside.
- 43:22But the inside guy was not, not the culprit here.
- 43:25So it's tough for him to get all the way across the face, but you wanna see him
- 43:29get a something, a chip, and allow Sam just, just a modicum of time, because
- 43:35if they're bringing this many people, someone's probably coming open in, in
- 43:38a heartbeat and Sam has a chance at it.
- 43:40But we don't get that chance.
- 43:42We have to punt the ball away.
- 43:44And in a odd, you know, succession of, of plays here and, and unfortunate
- 43:50events, the Chargers actually get the ball with a chance to tie the ballgame.
- 43:54We put it away, we love all that, but man, was this a little bit of
- 43:58a, "Damn, can't we put, can't we do, can't we put the ball away?"
- 44:01Now also, we got ourselves into a third and eight.
- 44:04How did you feel about running the ball on, I think it was second
- 44:08down here where, where we decided to run the ball into the wall?
- 44:11I wa- I, I kinda wanted us to throw the ball.
- 44:13If we were gonna throw the ball any of these three, I was like, man, why
- 44:16don't we do it on a, on a down where it's not actually fully expected?
- 44:21My, if my memory served me correctly, I think we run the ball on second
- 44:24down on this drive, but I forget.
- 44:26Adam: Yeah, so this is the drive where we end up in the
- 44:28third and 23 and the give up draw?
- 44:30Clinton: Well, no, this is, this is the end of this drive.
- 44:32We punt the ball after, right, right after this.
- 44:34Oh, okay.
- 44:34This is third down where we gotta punt the ball with, like, whatever,
- 44:37they have a timeout left, and it's, like, a minute 40 to go and they're
- 44:41getting the ball back only down seven.
- 44:43Yeah.
- 44:43Well- So this is right before their last drive
- 44:44… Adam: you do wanna run the ball and, you know, try to take, the
- 44:47time off the clock and all of that.
- 44:49But the coaching decision here that I have a hard, harder time kinda dealing with, if
- 44:52you wanna have some Fleury criticism, here, so where are Sam Darnold's answers?
- 44:58Where is he going when he's hot here?
- 44:59Because let's check out our three receivers at the bottom of the screen, and
- 45:03let's see if any of these guys actually try or actually have a route called that
- 45:08is a quick, a quick game type route.
- 45:11So we've got- JSN, he's gonna stay to the inside here, kinda work out this way.
- 45:18Kupp is gonna kinda do a switch re- oh, he fakes a switch release
- 45:22here, and then goes to work.
- 45:24This is just a mess down here.
- 45:26Like- It's a
- 45:26Clinton: little, it's a little crowded, right?
- 45:27I mean, right there- Like, right … in that first frame you have, you
- 45:29got two Seahawks right there.
- 45:31So maybe it's a bit of miscommunication too, and maybe, maybe it's a Fleury
- 45:36thing, but that does not look like a great design when you've got the
- 45:39middle of the field to go work, with that kind of blitz coming.
- 45:43The, you know, get, get over the top of the linebacker seems very
- 45:46possible with, this, what the, what the Chargers were trying.
- 45:49Adam: Right.
- 45:50And look, if you don't have a hot answer right here, it's, it's, you're toast, man.
- 45:54Yeah.
- 45:54Because let's say, let's say Holani even does come up and
- 45:58get the first rusher here.
- 46:00Yeah.
- 46:00But he takes him.
- 46:01Second guy's getting home.
- 46:03By the time that, you know, Shaheed and Kupp figure out that they
- 46:05can't, like, have a little group hug here in a little team meeting,
- 46:09Shaheed even hits the deck on this.
- 46:11Like, and Kupp releases late to the outside.
- 46:14JSN, I mean, y- by the time he's open- Yeah
- 46:17Sam's already dead to rights.
- 46:19Clinton: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:20I agree.
- 46:20They, it wasn't gonna go anywhere anyway because, because of what's happening.
- 46:24It's kinda baffling.
- 46:25Okay, but l- you know, something to watch again for next week, it's like
- 46:27if we get into these situations, when, when there's a blitz you really wanna
- 46:31try and replace that blitz, or just, you know, the spacing here is a concern.
- 46:37So, something to watch as they mature under Fleury's, Fleury's watch there.
- 46:42Okay, so those are our three ins, our three outs.
- 46:44We did have another, an ah damn this week as well, so let's get to our ah damn.
- 46:49Adam: All right.
- 46:50So, you know, in- when we first started doing ah damn, it was kinda
- 46:55like, "Yeah, that was a great play."
- 46:57this is gonna be more like a damn.
- 47:00Like, this just did not work out, and for me, it was Sam Darnold on
- 47:03third down throughout the first half.
- 47:05Mm.
- 47:05He had his, first third down where he scrambles around forever, and you
- 47:10know, just throw the freaking ball away.
- 47:12Finally does after he gets hit out of bounds, but then takes an
- 47:14intentional grounding because he holds the ball for, like, seven seconds.
- 47:18and then this would be your next one right here, and this is the play that,
- 47:22the color commentator, who was it?
- 47:25It was Logan Ryan, you know, had basically a hissy fit
- 47:28about him missing- Yes … JSN.
- 47:30And so we're gonna, we're gonna watch this play unfold, so you
- 47:35know, starting out here- And, and
- 47:35Clinton: b- but before you, before you do it, too, what I wanna-
- 47:37Adam: Yeah
- 47:37Clinton: say about that, and thank you for reminding me, too.
- 47:40It's like, so the color commentator's like, "Oh yeah, JS, wide open."
- 47:43So then all we see everywhere else, Twitter, and, and, and, you know, just
- 47:48certain, even our Discord people are like, "Oh, JSN's wide open," which is fine.
- 47:51I get it.
- 47:51You're reacting to what the color commentator said.
- 47:55And with that, this is a third and five where the one, the, the, well, the,
- 48:00your first look is an out to Barner.
- 48:03He's wide open.
- 48:04So you fire the ball to Barner and you move the chains, but you wanna talk
- 48:08about, like, why didn't that happen?
- 48:11Adam: That's right.
- 48:11So we are in 11 personnel here.
- 48:13We got two receivers at the top of your screen.
- 48:15We got Kupp at the top of your screen, JSN in the slot, and then
- 48:17we got Barner attached to the line.
- 48:19Then we got Sha- Shaheed, by himself down here in a condensed split.
- 48:24And what they're gonna do here is they're gonna bring Kupp in motion to
- 48:27start this play, which is really cool, because that actually clears this corner.
- 48:30And this is talking about good Fleury stuff, right?
- 48:32Yeah.
- 48:32Clinton: Yes.
- 48:33Adam: within here too.
- 48:34That clears that corner out to create all this space over here for Darnold,
- 48:38JSN, and Barner to work together here.
- 48:40So at the snap, we'll see JSN pushes and is gonna take this more vertical.
- 48:46And Barner's gonna come out and kinda head to the flat here.
- 48:50And we can see where Sam's looking right out of the gate.
- 48:52He's look- this is his first read right here, and he's looking dead
- 48:55at Barner right out of the gate.
- 48:57And look, there's, we got two Chargers that have…
- 49:00are kinda turning this direction.
- 49:02They're gonna try to kinda come across the formation here with Kupp.
- 49:05Then we got one defender left to defend this here in two, and he's gonna come
- 49:09up, and, he's got a decision to make.
- 49:11Am I gonna carry with JSN or am I gonna go with Barner here?
- 49:15And he comes up, and he kinda chooses neither.
- 49:18He stutters here with, JSN, and that leaves Barner wide open.
- 49:22But as the time we're seeing it, as we're looking through this in real
- 49:25time, ball's already out, Clinton.
- 49:27Yes.
- 49:27Ball's right here.
- 49:28So that's how- And
- 49:28Clinton: that's what Sam saw.
- 49:29His one, his one is wide open.
- 49:31It, it's a shorthanded guy and he, he's gonna catch that, get the corner,
- 49:34and go for seven on third down.
- 49:36Adam: Right.
- 49:36So let's see where Sam releases this ball.
- 49:39So he's in his throwing motion right here.
- 49:41So his, the decision was made a half a tick ago.
- 49:43Like, he's looking at this and he's thinking two is probably
- 49:46gonna carry with JSN, and that's gonna leave this wide ass open.
- 49:50And honestly, it is wide ass NFL open.
- 49:53And this is a first down if- Sam puts it on him a little bit better.
- 49:58Clinton: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:59It's-
- 49:59Adam: Now, we'll go to the next angle.
- 50:01If you can touch it, you can catch it, that part.
- 50:03Clinton: Sure.
- 50:03But if it, if it's, you know, a, a half a foot inside where it should be on his
- 50:08hands more, he's catching it without overextending, he's doing it with the full
- 50:11steam, you know, full head of steam, and he's able to turn that corner with perfect
- 50:16balance and easily go get that first down.
- 50:18So yes, would you like him to catch that?
- 50:20Yes.
- 50:21I- but is it, is it a great throw there?
- 50:24It was…
- 50:24You know, Sam was a little off on moments like this yesterday.
- 50:27And again, and there was some great stuff from Sam, as always, but
- 50:31he was a little off, especially early.
- 50:33Adam: Yeah.
- 50:33And look, you, you, you get the ball up here, if he gets the ball just
- 50:37right there, this is a first down.
- 50:39Yeah.
- 50:39'Cause you can see he's got a step.
- 50:41Like, he's gonna be able to run and turn up field here and pick up that first down.
- 50:44It's a great read by Sam.
- 50:46And look, one of the things that has changed Sam Darnold from Jets, Panthers
- 50:51Sam Darnold to Viking Seahawks Sam Darnold, is that instead of holding
- 50:54the ball, waiting for the big play usually, and we're gonna get to
- 50:57this, 'cause I've got one more for you too, Clinton, after this- Hmm
- 50:59if you don't mind.
- 51:00Clinton: I don't mind.
- 51:01Adam: he decides to take the sure thing, get the first down.
- 51:05Now, he doesn't execute on the throw, and we don't pick up the first down.
- 51:09I think this is a great decision by Sam Darnold.
- 51:11I think it was a great play design by Brian Fleury, just the
- 51:14execution from Sam wasn't there.
- 51:16Clinton: Yep.
- 51:17Well
- 51:17Adam: said.
- 51:17All right.
- 51:18So this is the, the next third down actually that we face here, and,
- 51:22basically we get Shaheed coming across in motion here to the top.
- 51:26We're gonna be back in 11 personnel, I believe, 'cause I believe
- 51:30this is JSN at the top, Shaheed, and then we got Kupp down here.
- 51:34We got a back in, in the gun, and then we got Barner here at the top.
- 51:38They're gonna work this side of the field here, the, the far hash.
- 51:41And as we bring this forward, we get Shaheed in the slot,
- 51:46Barner at the tight end position.
- 51:48Darnold takes the snap.
- 51:49They actually bring one extra blitzer here, but Wilson does a nice job of
- 51:54kinda working up here and- Mm-hmm … and, and taking the initial hit.
- 51:58But we see pre-snap, like- Right here.
- 52:04Watch this dude.
- 52:06Pre-snap, we watch him trying to sneak up, trying to jump it.
- 52:09At this point, Sam has to know, look, I'm gonna be…
- 52:14I, I can block this with the back, but man, he's gonna have a
- 52:17head of steam and it's gonna be tough for him to just stone him.
- 52:20Like, I need to get this ball out.
- 52:21So as we watch this unfold, we're gonna watch JSN working out here.
- 52:26We're gonna watch, Shaheed work a corner route, and then we're gonna
- 52:31actually watch Kupp come across on the drag route on the bottom here.
- 52:36So if it's me in this situation, I'd wanna be working one to two.
- 52:40Like, that- that's where I'd wanna go here, rather than trying to wait
- 52:43for a long developing corner route.
- 52:45But what does Sam do?
- 52:47He sets up, he's looking dead at JSN.
- 52:49Look at the cushion.
- 52:51Look at the cushion up here.
- 52:52Just let this rip.
- 52:53Like, if you wanna get after about not throwing the ball to
- 52:57JSN, this is the one right here.
- 52:58Hand, holds it, holds it, pats it.
- 53:00And during that time, watch Wilson down here.
- 53:04He's getting smashed, right?
- 53:06And he actually does a pretty good job giving Sam a chance here.
- 53:10But instead, he turns his head and he starts looking for Shaheed because he
- 53:14sees this corner's all mixed up and he's like, "Oh, I've got all this green grass.
- 53:17Safety's way over here in middle field.
- 53:19I'll be able to sneak that in."
- 53:20Why are we hunting for big plays as Cooper Kupp is wide [catfish] open
- 53:23coming across the bottom here, too?
- 53:26So he gets hit as he throws, and we watch the ball flutter.
- 53:30Clinton: Oh, right.
- 53:31You see.
- 53:31There's one that flut- yeah, there's one where he, he doesn't get a lot on it.
- 53:33Right.
- 53:33I, I was, I was trying to remember how, how it ended.
- 53:35Yeah.
- 53:36and this was the one that you're like, "Oh, boy.
- 53:38Hope that's not, hope that's not a, you know, a DB sitting under that one,"
- 53:42'cause it, it had that kind of trajectory.
- 53:44Yeah.
- 53:44Yeah, s- so this was one of the ones they were calling out on, on the play saying,
- 53:47"Hey, look, there's a couple of open…"
- 53:49I, I love the fact that you're like, "Hey, there's two options here."
- 53:52And look, he gets popped.
- 53:53It's, I think Wilson does the best he can, but he's getting walked back
- 53:57by a bigger dude, tough assignment.
- 53:59but I've gotten on, on Haloti in the past about, like, not
- 54:02winning that, that exact assignment, so I gotta be fair both ways.
- 54:06Adam: That was neutral.
- 54:06Yeah, right.
- 54:07I don't think that's a loss.
- 54:07I don't think it's a win.
- 54:08Clinton: No, he did enough to, to give, give Sam a second to throw the ball.
- 54:12But like we said, Sam had a couple of options and, and different times where
- 54:16his, he was a little, a little less, like, the, the reads were not as crisp as usual.
- 54:22His feet looked hap- happier, and I don't mean that in a good way.
- 54:25His feet, especially at the first, like, I don't know, 20 minutes
- 54:28of the game, he had happy feet.
- 54:30And some of these throws got out a little bit later than you want them to get out.
- 54:35And then, so that's another good example of that one there, and then
- 54:38there was other stuff, again, that there was, I remember, again,
- 54:41back to giving some, Fleury some love and working that with Sam.
- 54:44There was that, that play that I think comes, I think it comes from,
- 54:47the Niners where they, where, Sam will kind of fake a bubble
- 54:51left, pivot- Yeah … fake a bubble right, and then seam the ball down the
- 54:56middle for, like, 18 yards on a rope.
- 54:58That was done beautifully.
- 54:59So there was a couple others, too, where I was like, okay,
- 55:01that's, that's a beautifully called play, perfectly executed.
- 55:05It was just a little less, a little less free than normal.
- 55:09Like, I felt like there was less free yards available in this game on both sides
- 55:12of the ball, which was made up for up in penalties, and it was a l- and because
- 55:17of that, it felt a little chunkier.
- 55:19It wasn't as, like, smooth play after play, and I think that's
- 55:23what's giving people some agita today is, with Fleury, is that it felt
- 55:27chunkier than it needed to feel.
- 55:29And after all that, Adam We scored 30 points.
- 55:32Adam: We scored 30 points.
- 55:33We've scored 30 points in three straight games.
- 55:35that Fleury is just a, a terrible offensive coordinator.
- 55:38What a dog.
- 55:39but it- listen, when we talk about Sam here in…
- 55:43You know, maybe it's a little bit of rust, you know, and trying to work
- 55:45your way back into the season and all that stuff, but let's watch his
- 55:48feet, as he goes through this.
- 55:50So he takes a one, two, three step drop, back foot.
- 55:54Ball should be out now.
- 55:56He's looking at it.
- 55:56He sees it.
- 55:57There is separation there.
- 55:59We saw it on the other, copy, and yet he kinda, kinda does this little
- 56:03half hitch forward, and by then, now we're just chucking up a prayer.
- 56:08And good thing 27 here loses his feet trying to get to there.
- 56:11Clinton: Yeah, chucking up a prayer, and, and, and in a direction you
- 56:14really don't wanna see it go either.
- 56:16Like you said, you had cup crossing.
- 56:17So h- hey, look, these are things we gotta clean up.
- 56:19And I'm sh- I'm, I'm very confident that the Seahawks are sitting in
- 56:23their rooms watching these and having, having, you know, deeper, and
- 56:27more and, and football, really deep football discussions as they do.
- 56:32But it's things we c- we're picking up as, as fans who analyze
- 56:34this, the, the best we can.
- 56:36But I think you're right, Adam.
- 56:37I think you're spot on.
- 56:38I know, I, I know I see Yokai Hawk here.
- 56:41That's something that is feeling really right about this.
- 56:43$1,000 yen, donation, Super Chat from, Yokai saying,
- 56:47"Three in, three out catharsis.
- 56:49mope and sulk period over.
- 56:51Feeling better.
- 56:52Let's go humiliate the Shanny Show."
- 56:55I like that a lot.
- 56:55Okay, so those were the ins.
- 56:57Those were the outs.
- 56:58Again, a more traditional ins and outs this time around.
- 57:01This is, of course, the tape.
- 57:03Don't lie.
- 57:03Hope everybody's enjoying it.
- 57:04You gotta like, you gotta sub, do the things.
- 57:07Hit that button because it will help people see it.
- 57:09But one thing we always do, we have one rule, but we have, we have a tradition
- 57:13that when we win, not only do we start with an in, but we also celebrate
- 57:17the MVC, the most valuable cranny.
- 57:20It comes from one of the ins.
- 57:22So Adam, out of those three, who's taking home the MVC this week?
- 57:26Who do you think?
- 57:27Adam: I know you're currently married, Clinton, but, if you weren't-
- 57:30… I'd imagine you'd propose to Drake Thomas, so this has to be Drake Thomas.
- 57:33Clinton: It should be, and I know it should be, but I gave this because- Whoa
- 57:38… I gave this to Nehemiah Pritchett.
- 57:39You're stepping out on
- 57:40Adam: Drake?
- 57:41Clinton: Well, look, Drake has won it before, and this is not like, oh, you
- 57:43know, he's won the MVP so he can't win MVP again, or, hey, we're tired of
- 57:47giving, I don't know, the Robert Redford the best actor award 'cause
- 57:50he's just too darn good-looking.
- 57:52No, that's not, that's not how this works.
- 57:54But, but when it's this good and this simple, and I put
- 57:57quite simply, the perfect PBU.
- 58:00And I wanna give some shine to a dude that on a, a drive that results in points-
- 58:06This, we looked at it earlier, so we're not gonna revisit it too much here,
- 58:09but Nehemiah Pritchett gets the MVC-
- 58:12because that is perfect DB play on one of the hardest things to, to defend
- 58:18in the National Football League.
- 58:19A slant in the area of the field where they're just trying to get some yards
- 58:24to get into field, field goal position.
- 58:25Very often you're playing soft right there, and Nehemiah
- 58:28Pritchett was the exact opposite.
- 58:30He gets the MVC.
- 58:32Adam: Yep, he does get the MVC.
- 58:33Hey, whether it's perfect PBUs or PBJs, they all deserve, a trophy.
- 58:38No doubt about it.
- 58:39And, I can't argue with you, can't argue with you.
- 58:42Pritchett's gonna have that, displayed proudly this next-
- 58:45Yes … week as he, gets ready to face a depleted 49ers wide receiver
- 58:51Clinton: corps.
- 58:51One, that, that's a- amazing.
- 58:53We got the- we got our executive producers calling for an add in because we had,
- 58:56we had more outs than we had ins.
- 58:57But you know what?
- 58:58in a game like this we kinda deserve it.
- 59:00But look, here's the deal, folks.
- 59:02We are never, ever, ever gonna skip the From the Flock, and I…
- 59:05And that means, From the Flock is a section where we go to our Discord and
- 59:11we see what you said were the ins and outs of the game, we bring them forward.
- 59:14And not only is it cool because people also look for their own nooks and
- 59:18crannies, but it really does, like, illuminate plays that we just didn't
- 59:21cover, or players we didn't get to cover- Yeah … because we can't cover them all.
- 59:25Now, if people wanna be as cool as our members in the Discord,
- 59:27Adam, what should they be doing?
- 59:29Adam: Oh, go to getintheflock.com
- 59:30and, become a member of the Patreon.
- 59:32Get in with the Discord it, which is super fun.
- 59:35Everybody's just going back and forth on game day.
- 59:38It is a riot.
- 59:39And if you wanna be among some of the best 12s in all of the
- 59:42land of 12s, getintheflock.com
- 59:44will get you there.
- 59:45And, you know, if you can't do that, we go on a value for value thing here.
- 59:50I totally understand, like, times are tough right now.
- 59:52Gas is a billion dollars, inflation is high, you know, all that good stuff.
- 59:56You know, just a little subscribe, a little like, that gets it done too.
- 59:58So we appreciate the support, guys, more than you know.
- 1:00:01And, yeah, getintheflock.com.
- 1:00:03Clinton: Perfect.
- 1:00:04One more whammy please, Mr.
- 1:00:06Producer.
- 1:00:07There it is.
- 1:00:08Perfect.
- 1:00:09He was on it.
- 1:00:10We are into our From the Flock section again, our great
- 1:00:13members out in the Discord.
- 1:00:15I'll take the first one here.
- 1:00:16We got Carcar speaking of great members, saying, "Out, my dad
- 1:00:20said, quote- … watch him throw it right back to them, unquote,
- 1:00:23right before Donald threw the pick.
- 1:00:25So I blame my dad, not Donald."
- 1:00:27So Carcar, we appreciate you stepping in front of that one for Donald's
- 1:00:30sake and all the Hawkers' sake.
- 1:00:32Good stuff.
- 1:00:33Paul King saying, "In?
- 1:00:35Is Big Ball Dixon's back?"
- 1:00:37Dickson had a nice punt early.
- 1:00:39I think he had a very short punt later, like a 30-yarder, so sort
- 1:00:43of, but early he had a nice one, so recognizing that, Paul, thank you.
- 1:00:47And we got Nostradamus Chosen saying, "In, seeing Eman," this is cool,
- 1:00:51"seeing Eman in a three-point stance and getting past the guard, what a beast."
- 1:00:56A- Adam, if you wanna talk about Eman or other dudes who might
- 1:00:58have been causing havoc i- in, non-traditional, traditional
- 1:01:02stances, take it away in a second.
- 1:01:03And finally Carcar with an out, "I'm not one to harp on penalties, but
- 1:01:08oh my God, the penalties," and, you know, no lies detected there.
- 1:01:11but how about Eman, dude, b- being, being used all over the field?
- 1:01:15Adam: All over the field.
- 1:01:16He is such a Swiss Army knife.
- 1:01:18I do wanna address Carcar now.
- 1:01:19her dad has taken strays in two three and three outs-
- 1:01:22that I've been on now in a row.
- 1:01:24So, yeah, man, look out, bud.
- 1:01:26But, - Yeah, let's talk a little about Eman and some of
- 1:01:29the things that he was doing.
- 1:01:30I mean- Yeah … the three-point stance and, and getting there, and
- 1:01:32he had some really nice pass rushes.
- 1:01:34the one that sticks out to me was actually working against
- 1:01:36Joe Alt, like big- Mm-hmm
- 1:01:38time left tackle.
- 1:01:40Takes him inside, and you can see how- hard it is for those big tackles to
- 1:01:45keep up with the speed of Emmanwori, and he kinda jukes him inside, scoots
- 1:01:50back outside, gets some pressure on Herbert, and blows up the play.
- 1:01:54Really cool.
- 1:01:55Clinton: Yeah.
- 1:01:55and before we carry on with, with this, and we have a player at the top
- 1:01:59we're gonna wanna talk more about- Yeah
- 1:02:00for Eman, so in one of my fantasy football leagues, I know
- 1:02:04nobody cares about your fantasy foot- football team, but you'll
- 1:02:05care about this, I promise you this.
- 1:02:07So one of my fantasy teams, it's IDP, which means you draft or play
- 1:02:11individual defensive players, and you have to start two linemen, you
- 1:02:15know, two DTs, whatever, linebackers, and you have to start two DBs.
- 1:02:19And I told my, my fantasy partner there, I said, "Hey, look," I was
- 1:02:22like, "We gotta grab Emmanwori," I was like, " 'cause he's a cheat code,"
- 1:02:25as, as a quote-unquote defensive back, 'cause they line him up at edge.
- 1:02:28He basically plays linebacker, and they b- bring him on blitzes, and
- 1:02:31sure as you know it, he gets the sack, and, we had a nice day there.
- 1:02:35So to OPP and the Chicken Wings, good job.
- 1:02:38We see some more great stuff on screen here from 12ManRecords.
- 1:02:41Adam, he's talking about a boy that we know we wanna talk about more.
- 1:02:44Take it away.
- 1:02:45Adam: Yeah, 12ManRecords saying, "In Byron Murphy."
- 1:02:47he had a nice sack on a- Huge … standup rush.
- 1:02:50He looked like a DN.
- 1:02:51I mean, he was going against a guard, but, he made Penning look silly on that.
- 1:02:56Mm-hmm.
- 1:02:56I mean, the speed for that man, just unbelievable.
- 1:02:58We also have CarCar, "In Shaheed as part of this offense," and hey, man,
- 1:03:02he did, have a couple big plays, including the touchdown we talked about.
- 1:03:05Paul King, "In 12s getting loud on defense."
- 1:03:08I honestly felt like the energy and the crowd noise was a little lower in
- 1:03:12this game than maybe previous ones, but you know, they, they do their
- 1:03:15thing when they do, and, it was enough to get the win this week.
- 1:03:18"In EJ IV, has been all over the field today"- Yes … from Frost, and then
- 1:03:23we got another in from Frost, "In great first half for Shaheed," and indeed.
- 1:03:28Clinton: Yes, for sure.
- 1:03:29love, y- we didn't really cover Ernest Jones that much besides
- 1:03:33saying he had a really good game.
- 1:03:35Kinda underserves the game he did have.
- 1:03:37The interception's not even the thing.
- 1:03:39It's like, that's cool.
- 1:03:39It's always great to get a pick.
- 1:03:41I mean, Herbert just gave it to him, but he was all over the field again.
- 1:03:45Our linebacking core I think is pr- I know it's biased, and I know we watch this
- 1:03:49team way more than other teams, but I also know this is a very, very underappreciated
- 1:03:53linebacking core throughout the 32, 31 other franchises.
- 1:03:57Also 12ManRecords on the right-hand side of the screen saying, "In Donald
- 1:04:01using his legs in smart situations."
- 1:04:03Yeah, had a couple of nice, nice, d- d- escapability there, showing some stuff.
- 1:04:08It says, "In JSN Cooper Kupp and Holani blocking on Shaheed's TD run."
- 1:04:13Absolutely, Jason, we covered that, and you were spot on.
- 1:04:16All right, I'll take it away.
- 1:04:17CarCar again, "Out the constant soft penalties being the reason
- 1:04:21Leo was on the field to get hurt."
- 1:04:23That pissed me off too, and I blame it on the Seahawks p- for…
- 1:04:27And Mike M- Mike Macdonald said there's, you know, chasing edges,
- 1:04:31there's being right at the edge, and then there's selfish play.
- 1:04:34And- He's right.
- 1:04:36I'm sure that's how he's addressing it internally.
- 1:04:38Now let's really hope that Leo can be back and be 100% against
- 1:04:43the 49ers, who are 4 and 0.
- 1:04:45Frost saying, "Outs, can we please just barnyard on third and short?"
- 1:04:49Adam, once again, no barnyard found in this game, so I don't
- 1:04:53know, but, if any, any idea?
- 1:04:56I mean, they said there's some mysterious thing going on that we can't
- 1:04:59run it, so maybe the mystery deepens.
- 1:05:01I don't know, Adam.
- 1:05:02What do you think?
- 1:05:02Adam: the mystery deepens.
- 1:05:04I'm not Encyclopedia Brown or, you know- … any of those
- 1:05:06guys, so I don't know for sure.
- 1:05:09But, also, the, the penalties on the drive that Car Car referenced,
- 1:05:12cost me a bet on Blue Friday bets too, so yeah, I was annoyed by that as well.
- 1:05:16Clinton: Me too.
- 1:05:16Dahoom and Josh saying, "Outs, sack coming from Abe Lucas's side.
- 1:05:21To shock of no one, Lucas needs to clean this up."
- 1:05:23Josh has been an open advocate of Lucas.
- 1:05:26I wasn't offended by Lucas's play yesterday.
- 1:05:29I have to go back and just, if that's the sack on, that we watched with
- 1:05:34Holani, I don't know, because I don't, I don't, that, that one to me wasn't Lucas.
- 1:05:37I think he had him and, whoever was in at right guard at that point,
- 1:05:40I think they had their guys, - Yeah,
- 1:05:42Adam: unless-
- 1:05:43… Clinton: locked down
- 1:05:43… Adam: unless Abe Lucas is, you know, Michael Keaton in Multiplicity
- 1:05:47and can just, like, clone himself instantly and then block three
- 1:05:49dudes, at once, yeah.
- 1:05:51May-
- 1:05:51Clinton: maybe it was a different one.
- 1:05:52I, I don't remember if there was more, but, but either way, and we got
- 1:05:55Gornish Slick saying, "Outs playing not to lose in the second half."
- 1:05:58I can understand that.
- 1:05:59That I, you know, I could, I could get, I understand there was a
- 1:06:01little, little too much potentially conservatism at certain points.
- 1:06:06at the end of the day, it all, man, you know.
- 1:06:09And
- 1:06:09Adam: then if they throw the ball and, like, give the ball back
- 1:06:11with more time and all that, we, we, if they have some incompletes,
- 1:06:14then we kill them for that.
- 1:06:15So-
- 1:06:15Clinton: Yeah, it, it, it worked out.
- 1:06:16We get the dub.
- 1:06:17This is small on my screen.
- 1:06:19Is this too small for you?
- 1:06:19'Cause I could take it if it is.
- 1:06:21Adam: I just- I, I, I think I can do it.
- 1:06:22Cool.
- 1:06:22All right, we got Doc Hawk, in, "We got an in three and one without,
- 1:06:27playing anything close to our best."
- 1:06:28True facts.
- 1:06:29Clinton: Yep.
- 1:06:29Adam: In, "Wilson up the middle much better than out wide."
- 1:06:32yeah, 'cause one is decent and the other one is a dumpster fire.
- 1:06:36Horton TD, great to see.
- 1:06:39Out- Yes … "Lack of discipline and poise," 100%.
- 1:06:42Out, "Lambs and Whiners both wins."
- 1:06:44fricking Rams.
- 1:06:46Lucky
- 1:06:46Clinton: [catfish].
- 1:06:46Sirianni, what a dope.
- 1:06:48Adam: KNTS, KNTSTP, "Drake Thomas laying the wood on his defender
- 1:06:54on the Herbert run mid-fourth quarter."
- 1:06:55We talked about that.
- 1:06:56Yes.
- 1:06:57In, "Leo walks off on his own power and looked, to be fine on the sidelines.
- 1:07:01We will see."
- 1:07:02Mark Gardzerohack, in, "Emanuel Wilson, 120 yards total from scrimmage for
- 1:07:08an average of five yards per carry/catch."
- 1:07:11yeah, I guess per touch, that's what, what he averaged.
- 1:07:14That's pretty good.
- 1:07:15in, Eman- Returning to last season form in EJ IV, 'nough said.
- 1:07:22Absolutely.
- 1:07:22Out.
- 1:07:23Very, very, very stupid penalties, which were usually, correct.
- 1:07:28also too, I, I think I need to talk about Emanuel Wilson here for
- 1:07:32a second, because- Okay … I've been hearing a lot of Emanuel Wilson
- 1:07:34praise throughout this podcast.
- 1:07:36the stuff up the middle, he got what was there.
- 1:07:40Like, this is dead nuts average running.
- 1:07:43It's not special.
- 1:07:44It's not good.
- 1:07:44It's fine.
- 1:07:46And the outside stuff, simply cannot do it.
- 1:07:49It's a, it's a 0% chance that he's gonna do anything with any of those touches.
- 1:07:54It doesn't fit what this offense needs, and I wasn't a fan of
- 1:07:57the signing to begin with.
- 1:07:59I think he's okay at best now.
- 1:08:02But look man, sometimes the numbers lie, and you can throw all the stats at me
- 1:08:06from this game and combine his receptions into his, runs to make his, you
- 1:08:11know, yards per touch look better and all that stuff That wasn't good to me.
- 1:08:15That was okay at best.
- 1:08:17Clinton: I think it's a pretty good performance, and, you know, when you
- 1:08:20get into- when you play an NFL game, touch the ball 20-some odd times and score two
- 1:08:25touchdowns, I think you're at least a B, even if it, even if it's volume, you
- 1:08:30know, created and opportunity created.
- 1:08:33It's…
- 1:08:33He still did the job he was asked, so to me that's, that's
- 1:08:36at least a, a B, which is good.
- 1:08:37but I understand.
- 1:08:38I get your point of view, and we did talk about on the wide zone stuff,
- 1:08:43he's not a very good fit for it, and that's why you bring in Shead.
- 1:08:47It'll be really cool to see next week with a team that kind of did a lot of
- 1:08:51this when Deebo, and is still doing it, but when Deebo was real, real Deebo.
- 1:08:55I mean, he was, like, RB one for them for a couple of weeks, a half a season there.
- 1:08:59I do wonder if, if we'll get the itch to see a little bit more Shead.
- 1:09:03You know, even if it's like, hey, it's five or six attempts back there
- 1:09:07instead of one or two, and that's when you can start doing some of the, the
- 1:09:11alterations off of that stuff, and the boots off of some stuff with Shead on
- 1:09:15the field to maybe get some free yards.
- 1:09:17So we'll keep an eye on that.
- 1:09:19And there's also KNTSDP.
- 1:09:21He's got a lot of, math down there talking about the penalty yards, which
- 1:09:25we know that we out- we h- There were more penalty yards than offensive
- 1:09:28yards in terms of 148 for passing, 130, 138 for rushing, and 150 for, for
- 1:09:35penalties, which was not very good.
- 1:09:37But we have one more slide here before we wrap, and we got
- 1:09:41Yokai Hawk who's with us live.
- 1:09:42Thank you for the 1,000 yen donation.
- 1:09:45He's also talking about, you know, the eight 15-yard
- 1:09:48penalties, which were just…
- 1:09:50That's outrageous.
- 1:09:51But we wanna end on a positive here.
- 1:09:53We're gonna end with an in.
- 1:09:54Car Car saying, "In.
- 1:09:55The score was close, but I never truly felt like we would lose this."
- 1:09:59And honestly, that's exactly how I felt.
- 1:10:02That is exactly how…
- 1:10:03Even putting the ball back with a 1:40, I'm like, "They're not tying the game up."
- 1:10:07And if they did, I was like, "They're gonna go for two
- 1:10:09if they do tie the game up."
- 1:10:11I know.
- 1:10:11Yeah.
- 1:10:11Which that, that was the only thing I was nervous about, but I was like,
- 1:10:14"They're not, they're not gonna happen."
- 1:10:15And Chenny Goldjackets, who Uchenna Nwosu, with the revenge game that Brandan called
- 1:10:20for, gets a strip sack to seal it, Adam.
- 1:10:23Adam: He surely does.
- 1:10:24look, I didn't think that they would possibly lose that game to the Commanders
- 1:10:28either, but they did all the things that you do for a much lesser team to beat
- 1:10:33you, and they tried to do it again this week, like, with all of the penalties.
- 1:10:38And I am encouraged that Mike will get it handled because I watched his
- 1:10:43presser- Mm-hmm … right after.
- 1:10:46I know that he doesn't show a lot of emotion.
- 1:10:49He was on fire about those penalties, and I know it'll be addressed in, you know,
- 1:10:56one of the reporters asked him, "Well, what, what do you do other than yell?"
- 1:10:59And, you could tell he's like just on the inside being like,
- 1:11:03"Do I have to do anything else?"
- 1:11:05Yeah, I'm gonna yell at these [catfish].
- 1:11:06You know?
- 1:11:07Like- Yeah … oh my God, yeah.
- 1:11:08Clinton: Yeah, it was…
- 1:11:09it's, the reactions, what you want.
- 1:11:12Is what…
- 1:11:12it's exactly what you want, and you don't want, a coach over…
- 1:11:16it- it's, hey, but his, his focus in the locker room afterwards,
- 1:11:19like, "Hey, any win in the NFL is val- is, A, valuable, but also
- 1:11:24it, it, the NFL's really hard.
- 1:11:26So let's recognize that, let's recognize the effort, and that's not exact-
- 1:11:31that's not how we play football."
- 1:11:32And to your point, and what you've been saying just a l- right before
- 1:11:35that about, hey, if we try to give the game away versus the 49ers, we're
- 1:11:40gonna give the game away, and we just, we can't- Yeah … afford to do that.
- 1:11:43Now, Mike Macdonald has had a, a really strong, start of his Seahawks
- 1:11:48career when it comes to betwixing Shanahan and getting Purdy into
- 1:11:53situations where Purdy is heated up, has to make decisions faster than he wants
- 1:11:57to, and Purdy-turdies start flying.
- 1:12:00And we've been really advantageous about grabbing some Purdy-turdies
- 1:12:04and shutting him down, making, making him look like a much lesser QB.
- 1:12:10I thought the pressure this week was more consistent from our, from our defense.
- 1:12:14I think we're, we're surging into f- we're fairly healthy.
- 1:12:19We're getting healthier in some other core positions as well, and I think
- 1:12:23this is gonna be a, a beautiful early season test with a 4-0 Niners team's
- 1:12:28gonna come back to Seattle, where Adam, last time they were in Seattle,
- 1:12:32what was the score of that game the last time they visited the PNW?
- 1:12:35Adam: Oh, let's see.
- 1:12:37They came here, and the final score was [catfish] ton to nothing, basically.
- 1:12:42Like, that's what it was.
- 1:12:43Basically.
- 1:12:43Clinton: Yeah.
- 1:12:44Adam: Yeah.
- 1:12:44Yeah.
- 1:12:44Clinton: I think, I think it was officially 41 to six that game, right?
- 1:12:47That was the playoff game.
- 1:12:49Yeah.
- 1:12:49Adam: I don't remember the exact numbers- I think it was,
- 1:12:51yeah … but I don't need to.
- 1:12:51Right, right.
- 1:12:51'Cause the Niners, like, you know, it's cute.
- 1:12:53Like, you know, way, way to be.
- 1:12:55You made it to the divisional round and all that, but, you know,
- 1:12:58then you got put into your place.
- 1:12:59You know, one of the things I love about history, Clinton, is it doesn't always
- 1:13:02repeat, but it certainly does rhyme.
- 1:13:04And I remember the Niners coming in, late in the year.
- 1:13:08They're gonna get the one seed.
- 1:13:09This is the highest flying offense you've ever seen.
- 1:13:11Brock Purdy's amazing.
- 1:13:12Make him the MVP.
- 1:13:14And then we sat his ass down with three points, and then
- 1:13:16embarrassed him in the playoffs.
- 1:13:17I can't wait to see it again next week, Clinton.
- 1:13:19Screw the Niners forever.
- 1:13:21This was a fun show.
- 1:13:22Clinton: And I think with that-
- 1:13:23Adam: There's only one thing left to say
- 1:13:25… Clinton: go Hawks.
- 1:13:26Adam: Go Hawks.
