[rock music] All right, here we go.
• 0:19
Podcast [laughs] this is tech- Figuring the buttons... yeah, this is, this is podcast- I have nothing... 10B. 10B? You can't hear? Oh, yeah. Wait. Oh, 'cause Captain, your volume's turned off. No, your volume's on.
• 0:28
You should be okay. Now? Oh, here you go. Nope, now you can. Now I can. Now you can. Oh, there you go. Captain's here. Spinner's here. This is Chuy. Um, this is...
• 0:36
We're gonna call this podcast 10A, because when we started 10- [laughs]... uh, Clark decided to go for a run and we had to shut it down [laughs] and go chase a dog down. Yeah, the dog, yeah. Yeah. Escaped.
• 0:44
So we've got- Escape artist... we've got six dogs hanging around here. We are in Decorah, uh, in the backyard where technically we did our first podcast with, uh, Sav. So it's kinda like- Oh, that was back here?
• 0:55
Come on... Yep, yep. We call this a hangover podcast. [sighs] Oh, that's... We should be... The hangover from, like, you and I have been basically drinking for about a month straight now- [laughs]...
• 1:03
with very little breaks in between it seems like. Well, and then there was the month before that, and the month before that- Yeah... and the year before that.
• 1:09
[laughs] Well, what happens when you two get along, you just drink. Yeah. Well, there's... Well, and that was the thing when I was talking about this I think.
• 1:18
[sighs] I sent some texts to my friends in Wisconsin yesterday. I'm like, "I think Iowa out-drinks Wisconsin." And she goes, "I think your friends out-drink everybody." [laughs] That's not wrong.
• 1:29
[laughs] Yeah, no matter where, what state we're in, we drink a shit ton- Yeah... of beer. So we've... Uh, let's see. So the last podcast we did was, uh, the post SingleSpeed USA. Post SingleSpeed, yep.
• 1:41
In which case, uh, and there's gonna be a little bit of wind noise on this, because we are sitting outside. That's all right. Um, we... And Spinner ran the right to host it, so it is coming to Decorah, Iowa.
• 1:50
Uh, we don't have a date set yet. No. Um, yeah. I think it'll be... We should, we should just do August. It'll be August. Yeah, we just have to figure out when there's nothing else going on in town. So it's...
• 2:00
Decorah's a nice town, but it's not that big and- Mm. I was tempted to do September just 'cause it'd be cooler. Like, it was 45 degrees last night or whatever, you know? Yeah, we've had a couple- And, uh-...
• 2:09
really nice nights... August can be 90 all day and all night, so I don't know. Hopefully it'll be okay. Well, I think it'll be fine. I think sleeping weather, those that wanna stay in, out of the campgrounds.
• 2:18
The nice thing about Decorah is we've got an awesome campgrounds. We've got some, I don't know what you wanna call it, primitive camping along the bike trails that you could stay at. Mm-hmm. Um, there's tons of hotels.
• 2:26
Air- Airbnb's around here are fantastic, so there's options for everybody to be as comfortable or as uncomfortable as they wanna be. [laughs] Right. Well, I was thinking about that.
• 2:36
I don't, I don't know if we can have a common campground like Maine did.
• 2:39
It'd be like Winona, where like you just, you get to town, we're gonna have the ride, the trails will be there, and then we'll have bars that we'll go to, but we're not gonna have a common campground.
• 2:47
And- And nothing is that far away so that it's not like- It's not... where in Maine we were. I mean, you couldn't, you couldn't safely ride down any roads to get to any place else without- Yeah...
• 2:56
a gigantic pickup or semi come blowing by you with no shoulder on the road. So the... Once we're in town here, there's, it's, it's kind of... You know what?
• 3:04
I tell you what, this is going back to what SingleSpeed USA and, and kind of SingleSpeed Worlds originally was, is that once you get to town you never need to drive again. Right.
• 3:13
You should be able to be on your bicycle the entire time you're here. Yeah. If you put a pin in the middle of Decorah, you think it'd be like a three-mile radius and you get everything including the trails.
• 3:21
Pretty mu- Close... yeah, every bar- Yeah... every hotel, every, all the trails, the campground. Yep. Even the campground's in city limits. [laughs] Right. Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. It's run by the city.
• 3:29
Yeah, it's, it's, uh, it's awesome and it's... And there's, if there's not a, if there's not a street that's easy to ride on, there's a paved trail that leads to a lot of it. So there's, there's, um...
• 3:38
Yeah, it's gonna be, it's gonna be fun. Um, I'm not sure Decorah's gonna be happy with us when we're all done, but it's... [laughs] I've already- It, it- I'm like, "Hey, can we do this thing at your place?"
• 3:47
And a lot of people are like, "No." [laughs] That one's not quite in. It's not. Is it too? Oh, there. It's other one. It is now. Yeah. It was pulled out a little bit. Now we're good.
• 3:56
[sniffs] So anyway, uh, we- [laughs] Let's go back, let's take a couple steps back.
• 3:59
After we won the right to host this, you and I took off and we went to Milwaukee for Steel is Real and, uh, Zito's first anniversary ride, which was- I didn't make that one... a blast. Yeah, he's a good- Was it good?
• 4:11
Oh, it was so much fun. That was... You know, there's a manifest and you can go to these different stops, and people just kind of, I don't wanna say they blew it up, but they did a lot of it.
• 4:18
They, it just gave you an excuse to go to different places. It was somewhat of a bike messenger-type thing. It was a lot of fun. And then he [laughs] I swear to God, I thought he was stealing a boat. [laughs] We went...
• 4:30
We were, we were sitting outside a bar, and all of a sudden there he goes over and he's taking the windows off this boat. And I'm, like, going, "Holy shit, Zito's stealing a boat."
• 4:37
[laughs] And then it was actually, he, he actually knows the people that run this, the rental service and works for them part-time.
• 4:42
So we got a really cool tour of, uh, Milwaukee, the bay at night with the lights and the bridges lit up. It was kinda pretty, and it was really nice out there, so that was a blast. That, that whole weekend was fun, too.
• 4:54
Yeah. I, um, the first time we went over there and we did, like... I've never done a messenger-type of ride, where you don't stop and you always turn right. And, like, he was just tearing through Milwaukee.
• 5:05
I mean, we went right through downtown. That was... I've never ridden like that in my life. [laughs] But it was- So all- It was nuts. I mean, we didn't s- we didn't even slow down. Burning through alleys.
• 5:16
Um- And, and oddly enough to me, Milwaukee, the traffic was... And I don't think, you know, uh, I don't think bike messenger's as big a thing as it used to be, but the traffic seemed to be okay with it. Yeah.
• 5:27
I mean, the car, the car traffic didn't really seem to... They, they seemed to understand what we were doing. Yeah. I mean, they just kinda, like, let us blow through.
• 5:35
And when there was a stoplight that there was a group of us at, they just let us all go through before they came. There was no beeping, no honking, no flipping us off.
• 5:42
It was, it was really kind of f- It was a great time, actually. It was a blast. Yeah, and it's cool. The, the same thing, like anybody does here, um...
• 5:50
Well, me and Captain is a little, you're not a lifelong resident, but you've lived in Decorah a lot- Yep... [laughs] lived a long time. But yeah, when you go around and, like, we'll say, "This is T-Box.
• 5:58
This is the trail. This is that trail, and this was..." You know, they, they do a tour, and he did that same thing. He was, like, really proud of Milwaukee, and he wanted to show us everything that he-...
• 6:05
everywhere he's been, like- And I- You know... think he was born there, or at least- He was? Yeah, either that, he was either born there or he lived, uh, uh, he was a bike messenger there before- Before Minneapolis?
• 6:15
Before Minneapolis and Australia and wherever the hell else he's been. Yeah, that was- He's been a lot of places, he has been... he's just been... Yeah.
• 6:21
And then, and so it, it just, it, it's, it's really fun to ride with him and ha- listen to him tell you about buildings and about the history of that building, and it was, it was a, it was a great time.
• 6:31
I really enjoyed myself. I cannot wait for next year. And he's got a lot of cool restaurants and cool bars that he, he's like, "Gotta go to that..." What was it, Side Door we went to? Yeah. Or, uh, Stage Door?
• 6:40
Stage Door. S- Stage Door. Yeah. Yeah. He's like, "We gotta go there."
• 6:43
And- There's so many co- that, that's just it, there's so many cool places- Cool little restaurants that you wanna know about So there's more than one Stage Door. I'm just thinking of the one in Vegas. Oh, yeah.
• 6:51
Oh, yeah. Not even related, I don't think. No, not related at all. [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] No, that's the one that there's like, uh, video games or, uh, like video gambling in the bar. Yep.
• 7:01
Like, underneath the bar when you're sitting at the- Yep, they always have a dollar special. It might be- That's right... Pams, it might be Budweiser, it might be- Isn't it a beer and a shot?
• 7:11
No, i- that was the old one and the cold one. Oh, that's what it was. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's what it was. That was Blue Ribbon and a shot of Old Crow. Old Crow, yeah. And that was $2 for a beer and a shot. Yeah.
• 7:20
Uff da. [laughs] It's dangerous- Which, which-... getting cheap drunk in Vegas... which leads us to yesterday, that we did the, uh, uh, it was a cancer...
• 7:29
I don't even remember what it was for, but we got roped- It was a cancer benefit for something. Yeah, we got roped into a ride and, um, that turned into a beer and a shot also. A lot of shots.
• 7:38
It was the- A lot of beers... first annual, uh- You read the thing... something benefit bike ride. I can't read with that- Well, it used to be called the Chlamydia Ride. It used to be, yeah. Yep. [laughs] So it was...
• 7:50
Where's the money go on a chlamydia benefit ride? [laughs] I don't know. But it was like, yeah, but the money went to a hospice or something yesterday? Yep. Yeah, yeah.
• 8:00
There were- Power County Hospice Oh, did I- That's what it was, yeah... even spend my winnings? Or maybe I just left that card at [laughs] Kelmer. Did you leave it at Pevo? Did you leave it at Pevo?
• 8:08
Probably left it at Pevo. If I lose my card, lose my money, lose my phone- Jesse won, Jesse won a $50 Visa card... 50 bucks? As a- No, it was 25 a shot. Was it 25? Yeah. Oh, I thought it was 50.
• 8:17
Well, but anyway, he won a gift card and immediately lost it. [laughs] Par for the course. Yeah. So it was, it was, uh, that was fun.
• 8:24
And we rode the Prairie trail yesterday, which is a 20-mile trail from Cresco, Iowa to Kelmer, Iowa, with one small stop in a little town- Ridgeway... called Ridgeway. Yeah. And, um- It's-... it's, it is, it was flat.
• 8:37
And we picked up the mayor of Ridgeway, and the mayor of Ridgeway rode with us. That's right, yeah. We were, we were with, uh, um, a- Yeah... I don't know what you want to call it. Yeah.
• 8:46
[laughs] Everybody's try- everybody's trying to block the wind right now. Uh, we were with, uh, royal- not royalty. What is it called? Uh, I don't know. Uh. [laughs] A dignitary. [laughs] Dignitary, there you go.
• 8:56
Which, which- Was super dignified. Yeah. [laughs] That's, that was interesting. That was- Yeah. It was, it was a fun ride. It was not... We didn't quite make the entire distance. We made half. Yeah, we did half.
• 9:08
Exactly half. We did half, yeah. [laughs] Way too many shots. Yeah. Well, that's what happens when Jamie gets involved. That's when there's a focal involved- Exactly, yeah... and you're gonna have, um, too many shots.
• 9:17
So it was still fun. And so we get another ride in. Um, and so that kind of brings me to what I wanted to talk about a little bit today. I actually wanna talk about clunkers, but Greg has got his. I haven't got mine yet.
• 9:27
Cap- which means Captain hasn't got his yet. So I think I'm gonna hold off and do a, we'll do a podcast about clunkers and the different clunkers we've, we're all been riding.
• 9:37
Uh, probably in a week or two we can get, uh, Brad Burge involved with it. Maybe by that time Captain will have ridden his for a bit. Um- You already have one, right?
• 9:45
I've got mine, and Brad's got the- That's the one that you ride everywhere. Yep. And then Brad's got the, the mate to that one that I got. Um- Yep... and he's [laughs] he's, he has used it correctly.
• 9:55
He's crashed into a planter. He's gone over the handlebars several times. He's just- Yeah, he's talking about that. I haven't gone over the bars in a long time. No, that's- That's the weirdest kind of crash...
• 10:03
well, but you gotta remember, he's a, he's a BMX guy, so that's his- Mm. That's how he starts life and ends life, is we test the bike out by how many times we go over the bars and how we went over the bars.
• 10:12
[laughs] That's how it works. But, um, so now to me, um, and I don't know how to put this, it's, it's kinda become gravel road season, uh, for... I mean, the cyclocross re- season for a lot of people. Oh, yeah.
• 10:26
None of us really cyclocross, um- What is cross? I mean, that's just a fall sport? Yeah.
• 10:32
Uh, um, and, and now because of the way mountain biking is going and with, uh, um, high school racing series and stuff, there's a, there's a huge overlap.
• 10:39
It never used to overlap, but now mountain biking and cyc- and cyclocross overlap quite a bit. And, um- Trying to- Um, yeah, no... open the window. Trying to figure out which way to do it so the windows either... Um,
• 10:51
I've never- So I've, and I'm not-... even watched it... cyclocross is, cyclocross is kinda cool. It's usually like a Saturday in one place, a Sunday the other.
• 10:58
It used to be short, like maybe, um, I don't know, maybe eight weeks long at the most. It was like 16 races in eight weekends, you know, like, like Saturday race in one place- Yeah... and Sunday in another.
• 11:09
And now it's, it's, um... How do I put it now?
• 11:12
It's, uh, it's extended because they're busy with, um, uh, they're trying to make it last all the way to the end of cycle- national cyclocross championship, which I think is like January, February. Hmm.
• 11:25
So they, they've extended the season a little bit to make it last longer, or to make it so it rides all the way through it, um, which kind of, to me, it took me out of it. I, I, I did a couple up in the cities.
• 11:35
They were fun. They were just like, I guess if you call fun riding your ass off as fast as you can for 35 minutes and puking a lung up, that's about [laughs] it. That's, that seems like- Without alcohol? [laughs] Yeah.
• 11:45
That's what, that's what it feels like. So then- No...
• 11:47
the bigger season for me, and I don't do it as much as I used to because I'm just not into it like I used to be, is, uh, around here, it's the gravel road season as far as, you know, races and rides and stuff.
• 11:59
Um- I have missed Iowa gravel- [clears throat]... when I was living in Wisconsin, 'cause Wisconsin has like some sort of deal with, uh, farmers and dairy trucks that almost every road is paved.
• 12:08
There's not a lot of gravel over there. And, um- That was, that's some of the best riding here. I mean, it's, it's not a road ride, but it's, you know, there's not a lot of traffic on gravel either. Right.
• 12:19
And that's kind of the best thing, and b- especially in like the driftless here, when we go up to Bluffton. Are we riding to Bluffton? Are we s- are we supposed to ride to Bluffton today? I don't know.
• 12:27
[laughs] Maybe we are. Maybe. [laughs] I'm gonna shower before I go anywhere. [laughs] I, yeah, I was gonna say- And I think I'm downwind of you. Yeah. [laughs] That was, uh... We, uh, so the one...
• 12:37
And the reason I brought this up was, is the one that's coming up, um, uh, uh- Cyclecross Rochester? Yeah. [laughs] No, uh, the Filthy Fifty is coming up, uh- Hmm... two weeks away, three weeks away, I think it is.
• 12:49
What is that? So when Trenton originally did it, it was out of Stewartville, and it was a shorter versions of, of the Omanzo, basically. It, it touched bits and pieces of the original...
• 13:01
Well, I shouldn't say original, but the Omanzo that used to be run out of Spring Valley, and it, and it touched in on those different spots.
• 13:05
So it would be like, it was, [laughs] it was actually nice, 'cause when you came to a really shitty climb, it turned and went a different way. Mm. So it was, it was fun. It was 50 miles, uh, first weekend in October.
• 13:16
It was a blast. Um- God, what is that one hill? That one hill on Omanzo. There's only one shitty hill. Yeah. Um- It's like named after a bird. It's like at mile 80. Oriel. Just... Or, yep. [laughs] The Oriel, yeah.
• 13:27
Oriel Hill. That fucking thing. Yeah. Um- But Omanzo was... Yeah. You, you probably talked about Omanzo on here, yeah, before. Uh, I don't think we have, because Omanzo's kind of... I don't know, it's- Is it dead, or?
• 13:38
It's... Well, it's a... Let's put it this way. It's no longer in southeast Minnesota. If it still exists, it's probably up in Northfield areas someplace. I don't even know if they're calling it the Omanzo anymore.
• 13:49
Yeah, I do remember, yeah, 'cause you- Um, S- Stewart, or Spring Valley took it over and started calling it something else. Um, I can't remember. And I haven't heard about it since. I don't know if they gave up.
• 13:58
No, and they did it a couple years, but, you know, things just went bad, and I think with COVID last year, kind of shut everything down. It was a nice big festival for the city. Yeah. Um, and, and, and, uh- The, the-...
• 14:10
the, the Filthy Fifty started in Stewartville, and it worked out well because it was on a Sunday, and they could use the fairway 'cause they're closed on Sunday.
• 14:17
Well, um, the property that they used that was a big empty lot, and it worked out well for the start and finishes now have buildings built on it, so he moved out of there.
• 14:26
And he's moved it to Lanesboro, who from, uh, we haven't been able to make it for the last year. Sue and I always do it on our tandem. Okay. And, um, it's, it's... I think he's found a home in, in Lanesboro.
• 14:37
I think the city of Lanesboro's happy with it. It's a lot of the same stuff.
• 14:41
I think there's actually more climbing in Lanesboro than there is where he was at out of Stewartville because you're following the r- river trail. Mm-hmm.
• 14:48
So I think you're, you're, you know, it's basically up and down and through the river valleys. Like, we've d- you know, you and I have done that kind of stuff before. Oh, yeah. So, um,
• 14:57
this year, and I see this year he added 100 miles to it. Oh, wow. So it's been a 50, 35, and a 15 for families, and now it's... And now he's added 100 to it, so that'll be interesting to see how that goes.
• 15:09
We'll have to tr- see if we can get ahold of Trenton and have him come down and hang out. His dad's a super nice guy. They're all, they're all faster than snot on gravel, so it's really fun to ride with those guys. Yeah.
• 15:19
But I don't know. I've, I've, I've kind of looked at... Personally, I've, kind of gravel to me has gone the, the same way as road riding. I, I don't... I'd rather go ride in the dirt someplace. Yep. Um- Yeah.
• 15:27
I mean, ideally, yes. But, um, I've done, uh, Colesburg. You ever heard of that? Mm-mm. Colesburg, Iowa. It's like a, it's a gravel metric, so it's like 60-some miles. And that is, um... Yeah, Colesburg, I don't know.
• 15:42
It, it's, like, maybe an hour, uh, west of Dubuque, um, south of here. And then, uh, Matt Fassbender, uh, uh, was a wrestler here at Lutheran, and he does Volga City, Volga City Gravel.
• 15:55
I think there's 100 miles down there. Is that, is that coming up, or is that one done? Oh, it's coming up. Nice. I think it's the end of the month. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Well, that's my point. You know, around here, I, I...
• 16:04
Around this area, southeast Minnesota- [laughs] See, that is one thing that, uh, Iowa has that a lot of places don't. Like, when we went to Maine, you know, we were mountain biking in the mountains. Yep.
• 16:14
And, um, every single speed race we've done, and yeah, I got friends that, a lot of friends that ride road bike, but the gravel here is just, is so much cooler.
• 16:23
Well, and, and, and is there even a cyclocross scene in Iowa? I don't... Uh, Iowa City has a big one. Iowa City has one? Yeah, they have a national one up there. The Bike Iowa guys.
• 16:31
Oh, yeah, that's right, 'cause they do the... Oh, what's the one at Thanksgiving? What's his name? Scott, um, with the big beard. Jingle Balls or- Yeah, Jingle Balls, yeah, yeah... Jingle Balls. Yeah, I remember.
• 16:40
'Cause Hollywood comes down. Yep. 'Cause, 'cause he's from Iowa City or Cedar Rapids area or something like that. Really? Yeah. I don't think I knew that.
• 16:45
'Cause he, he, he bought a van in California, flew out, drove it home. Oh, yeah. Living it. They, they, no, they drove that van to... They drove it. No, not Ramblin' Fever. He bought another one. Another one?
• 16:55
He bought a new one. Oh, my God. Yeah, yeah. Amazing. So he just flew out there, and he was like, "I'm ready to be disappointed. I know what it was gonna be." And he...
• 17:03
It's got, like, uh, the pipes that go, like, where the running board should be, you know? Oh, yeah, the side pipes. Yep. And it's got the pipes that come out the front of the wheels.
• 17:08
Yeah, and he, uh, like what's it called? Like, big something. I'm gonna look it up quick. It w- it was so cool that he... Yeah, if you know Hollywood. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
• 17:18
He, he looks like a cocky son of a bitch, and you talk to him, like, this is a really cool guy. He's...
• 17:22
[laughs] And, and his band will be playing at Single Speed- Yeah, he was, yeah, he would come down and- USA when it's, you know-... mountain faces... yep. Yeah.
• 17:28
Uh, Daddy's Nighttime Friends, DNF, they're gonna be- DNF... coming down and playing. Fantastic band. Yeah. Um, and they have so much fun playing, too. That's the better part of it. Yeah.
• 17:36
Yeah, but so for Single Speeds here. But yeah, so going back to it, gravel, um, it, there's not much of a cyclocross scene. Southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, we don't have much cyclocross down here.
• 17:46
We do a ton of gravel road riding instead. Yeah. And maybe that's why we, there's no need for cyclocross, you know? And you also have to have the correct parks, and maybe that's another reason we don't have it. Well,
• 17:58
okay, we're watching a video of Hollywood's new band. Yeah. He drove out there and he got that thing. Wow. Bad Company. And he drove that thing home. That's sweet. [laughs] I don't know what year that is.
• 18:07
Let's put, we'll put a picture of that up there. I, uh- Yeah... it looks like it's an '80s probably. It's, it's got that bubble, round mirror in the back- Yeah... or round, uh, window in the back.
• 18:16
That's awesome It's almost like a Scooby-Doo van. We, we tried doing a, a podcast in the back of Ramblin' Fever, in the back of his van- Yep... outside of that, uh, bar, and it didn't work.
• 18:25
[laughs] Didn't work real well. [laughs] That's when they, that's when they drove out to, uh, uh, New York for that, for DJ's race out there, and it, uh, that, did it overheat when they were in New Jersey? No.
• 18:35
I can't remember where it was. There was a traffic jam, and he drove on the shoulder, 'cause there is no, um... There's a radiator, but something with the fan, like you need to keep it moving.
• 18:46
Um- Oh, it's a, it's a, um- Clutch fan? Yeah, it's, yep... clutch fan or whatever. So it was like, yeah, if he, if he were to stop in traffic it would, uh, overheat, so he was like, "I know, I'm an asshole."
• 18:54
He's like waving, he's like, "I'm sorry, I need to keep this thing moving." [laughs] As he's driving on the shoulder past everybody, like on the turnpike.
• 19:01
[laughs] So yeah, so that's, uh, kind of, we're just kind of bouncing all over the place here, but that's what I figured we were gonna do today. There's no ra- rhyme or reason. Just- This is just a hangover podcast.
• 19:12
Yeah, it is. It's been, uh... God, it started Thursday night with- Yeah, I'm gonna down-... dollar PBRs... I'm gonna drink this. [laughs] Dollar PBRs- Are you really?...
• 19:20
is half the price of a market- I, I drink, I could, uh, Jesse is now shooting his, uh, little bottle shots of Fireball. I don't know when I went to bed, but it wasn't long ago.
• 19:27
[laughs] Oh yeah, it was a really- It was the- That's it... it was the ride that turns in... Oh, it's, it's, it's- We- we're sipping? You're not gonna chug the thing. Come on, this m- Why not?
• 19:38
This is- I mean, that's what it's designed for... breakfast shots. [laughs] Breakfast, breakfast whiskey. Breakfast whiskey. [laughs] Breakfast whiskey, there we go. No, but so I got some ideas for single speeds.
• 19:48
Um, do you wanna go there, or do you wanna keep going with the- Yeah, let's go, let's go to sing- We, we should probably s- get some sort of format going. I'll save my clunker stories for the clunker podcast.
• 19:54
Yeah, we'll, we'll do clunker stories, because I, I do wanna talk, and w- I wanna get Brad involved, and I wanna get Catherine involved when he gets his. Um, hopefully m- Greg has got his. Do you have...
• 20:03
Did I get one, or no? I, I- I, I've got one if you want one. I'll have an extra one. If nobody else wants it, I'll take it. Okay. Yeah. Okay.
• 20:09
And then, you know, and then I'd like, maybe then we'll just do that one where everybody ride them for a week or two- Yep... and then we'll maybe down, a month down the road we'll do a podcast about clunkers.
• 20:15
Because it, it's, um... And w- and I wanna get Greg involved in it too, because he also has a Handsome now. Oh, that's right. So he's got two different kinds of clunkers. He's got the Zeegles.
• 20:24
And I, yeah, and I want him to, I, I want him to ride them a little bit so you can see, because there is a distinct difference between the two clunkers. [laughs] Yeah. Believe me. There's- What did I do to his bike?
• 20:34
And Steel's Reel. Oh, and so he had a course- [laughs] Spinner just- Sorry... Spinner just swatted, swatted a bee and took the microphone and sent it across the neighborhood.
• 20:44
[laughs] No, uh, he had that coaster brake, and I coaster braked... Uh, I d- well, I typically, I used to do this with a 36er. I'd steal somebody else's bike so they would have to ride a 36er to the next bar.
• 20:56
But then I stole Greg's bike, so he had to ride mine, and I hit the brakes, and remember that the coaster brake wrapped around the, uh, the axle?
• 21:04
His, his, his axle width is wider, and so he had to modify his, the coaster brake part of it, and that would just taco out. We had, um, and I know Greg's talked about it, but we had so much fun.
• 21:15
There was a young kid that worked for a shop down there. Yeah, so we get to a bar and- Yeah... the bike is busted. Like, it was like- And the, and-... I couldn't brake, and it would just keep on rolling...
• 21:22
right, and the arm had... Did it come loose, or did we just take it off? But the arm had, the arm had tweaked so bad it was just, it looked like a pretzel. It was a mess. Yeah.
• 21:30
And so we literally- We're sitting there getting beers. Yeah. You guys sit down, take the bike apart. And then they're like, "We don't, we can't fix this here." And I'm wandering around behind the...
• 21:38
I don't even remember what bar we were at. Again, this is in Milwaukee, and I- Steel's Reel... I found an old rusty hammer. [laughs] And the kid's like, "We can't take this apart, 'cause we don't have the right tools."
• 21:49
And I figured out how to take the fork of the tool, and we held it in place, and the kid was just, he was in heaven because we were, like, we were cannibalizing bits and pieces.
• 21:57
We were using stones and hammers and any shit we could find laying around to fix this thing. We got it fairly straight. Oh, then- Somebody welded it... oh yeah, then Zeegle grabbed the piece, the, the arm.
• 22:08
We'd disassembled it from the, um, hub, and Zeegle took it over to a car mechanic just down the street [laughs] and had, had the guy weld... 'Cause you, we had literally busted the- It was like pot metal.
• 22:18
It was like cheap. Yeah, and the, and the, and the, however you wanna call it, the cone that goes around the, um, that goes around the, uh, um, the hub- Mm-hmm...
• 22:26
and then locks down with a lock ring, um, had, had actually broke. So, you know, it, it, it had seed, instead of being an oval it was a C. Yeah.
• 22:34
And so Zeegle grabbed it and ran over to a guy's place, and he welded it back together for him. So we welded- For free. Yeah. He's like, "What do I owe you?" He's like, "Oh, it's nothing." Yeah.
• 22:41
It, it was, like, cheap and easy and- [laughs]... it was so cool to see all these, those people sit down and fix that bike. [laughs] It was, it was, and on that- Especially 'cause I broke it and it wasn't mine.
• 22:50
[laughs] And that's... [laughs] Well, and, and it brought me back to, um, all the guys in, um...
• 22:57
Like, there's a bunch of guys in back of the pack racing that all ride, um, coaster brakes, whether they're old Schwinns or they're the custom ones that, that, uh, Monet and, um, uh,
• 23:10
um, I can't think of the other guy's name. That they've been building these frames, you know. And so, and they're, they're using really fancy hubs and stuff.
• 23:15
But it, but again, when they go someplace with their clunkers and they ride them, they basically
• 23:20
are, they bring a kit to fix them, whether they gotta pack new g- new grease in the bearings or whatever, you know, 'cause they burn the shit out of them. Mm.
• 23:27
And those guys are riding them in mountains, so, um, yeah, it was, it was... So it's gonna be fun having everybody having an option and, and getting our, our feet of riding clunkers around here. Yeah.
• 23:38
It's gonna be kind of fun to see what, how it goes. That's a... Yeah.
• 23:41
I guess I've always been a mountain bike guy, and I know we make a lot of shit out of roadies, but there's a lot of cool rides like that, like the Milwaukee thing, that you just...
• 23:48
Uh, I'm glad that we have those guys, that they can say, "Hey, come to our town and ride with us. Like, we ride around here and do the bar hop."
• 23:55
And like I said, in between alleys, like the trails that they have, um, that is such a fun day. It, it- It's not only mountain biking, you know? And it's not road riding either.
• 24:05
It's like a, I don't even know what you'd call it. Urban assault. Yeah, urban as- Little bit of cyclocross... urban cross, whatever you wanna call it. Yeah. It's, uh... Yeah.
• 24:11
But it, I mean, we would never have that kind of fun without those guys- Right... if they didn't do an event like that. Right. You know, and, and I know the Cities guys used to, or they still do a lot of that.
• 24:21
I mean, it was, that stuff was all, um- S- I don't wanna say sponsored by, but it was pretty much run by the guys that worked at Surly. It was Ziegel and, and Nick Sandy and- What are you talking about?
• 24:33
Um- Foamy, Foamy Fall Fest or Homey Fall Fest? He, he just- they did tons of rides like that. They did Seven Bridges one time.
• 24:38
They've done, you know, they've done a ton of basically Steel's real type of rides, but, you know, up in the, up in the Minneapolis area they do a ton of them too. And we've, we...
• 24:46
I know TNR kinda started out as that, our, our ride on Tuesday nights- No, yeah, yeah, Tuesday nights... in Rochester, and, um, they've somewhat fallen apart from that but- [laughs] Dogs are going nuts. Yeah.
• 24:57
[laughs] It's the, the advantage of a tiny little backyard, everybody's like right on top of you. Mm-hmm. Um, so SingleSpeed USA. Yes. You have plans. I have plans. Okay, let's hear.
• 25:07
Um, I think, well, like I said, it won't be a common campground, but I'm thinking stage race. Um- Hmm... Twin Springs. Okay. And everybody parties in the, the Captain's Time Trial.
• 25:19
Everybody parties there, and then we ride to Death Valley. Okay. And then we do a course up in Van Peenen. All right. And then they, everybody comes back and parties, and we do the last course up in Ice Cave.
• 25:30
And actually, you know, now thinking about it, Ice Cave is probably the most dangerous. There's the most bluffs up there. Yep.
• 25:35
Maybe we do Ice Cave second [laughs] and Van Peenen third [laughs] 'cause if everybody's- It's pretty huge... there's too many... So there's the thing, that there's a common beer stop in the first lap.
• 25:43
First lap is gonna be like two miles, not even, and then party, and then we ride through town, take a Trout Run Trail, Doug Road, and we take it straight to The Bridge. Yep. I mean, everybody just group ride over there.
• 25:55
And then, um, I don't know.
• 25:58
It, it- Do you then base everything out of, out of Death Valley or do you wanna go- I wanna base out of Death Valley because we can have a fire, we can have the beer, and we can have a tent- Okay...
• 26:05
and that'll be the common area. Yeah. And say, "This is, this is your safe, this is your safe spot [laughs] or, uh- Right... whatever." Well, it's- Safe... and it's easy for- And we-...
• 26:13
those that not racing and riding just wanna come out and hang out, that's an easy spot to get to. And, a- and we'll do it the same thing, like we're gonna have some Hammers, we'll have some mountain bike monsters.
• 26:22
That'll be the first, you know? Mm-hmm. And the guys that wanna be last, they don't have to do the third part if they don't want to. I mean, I think a lot of people are gonna be surprised.
• 26:30
You get just like everybody's like, "Oh, it's Iowa, you're gonna be fine," and then they're bringing like a two-to-one gear. Yep. And then you're like, "Oh, you're fucked. Your, your legs don't work anymore."
• 26:38
[laughs] Yeah. Yeah. So we'll send them up in Ice Cave, we'll do the thing, and then like you can come back and stop right in Death Valley, and then the fast guys and the last guys can end up in the same spot.
• 26:46
That's a good idea. Mm-hmm. And we could... And, and we could do the derby there. We could do derby there. We could derby on the soccer fields next to the river too. Which would probably make more sense. Yeah.
• 26:56
Yeah, that's what we did. And that's what the- The bucket ball course. The- Yeah... bucket ball world championships or whatever Sav had. [laughs] I haven't seen that guy. He just, he rolls by every once in a while.
• 27:06
Oh, yeah, he rode by yesterday. He came, actually he came down Baker. I think he was trying to sneak by without me seeing him, but I saw him anyway. [laughs] Knows I've been telling him- So Sav was, uh-...
• 27:13
he has to avoid me... what was he? Was he head of sales for Surly? I don't know what he was. All those Surly guys were kind of the same thing. They were just muckety-muck bodies and then- Yeah...
• 27:21
they all- I remember I was in his house and he was able to, uh, hit a button and address the entire QBP warehouse [laughs] from his computer. Yeah. Well, he, uh- I think they took that away from him.
• 27:30
[laughs] Wasn't he playing like Van Halen or something on it the whole time? [laughs] I don't remember what it was.
• 27:35
It was, it was when he was living down here, and they were having meetings up there, and he was telecommuting into it. Before it was a big fancy and easy thing to do, it was a, I think it was- Yeah.
• 27:44
Yeah, I remember the... But still, even when we won it out there and we're like, "We're going to Iowa," and everybody's like, "Iowa?" [laughs] Yeah.
• 27:50
Oh, yeah, they're gonna, they're all gonna shit their pants when we get there.
• 27:52
To be fair, it, it's a lot more riding there than there would've been in Key West, but I'm still kinda disappointed that we even participated 'cause I kinda wanted to go to Key West. [laughs] I- Oh, well next year. Yeah.
• 28:02
I think next year it's gonna be... It'll, the year after it's gonna be Key West just by popular demand.
• 28:06
I think every- [laughs] when this is everybody racing for Key West, it's gonna be whoever wins has to host it in Key West. Yeah. [laughs] Well, I think it- That would be, that would be a different twist to it.
• 28:15
Instead of winning the race and bringing it to where you want to, you're gonna win the race to host it, and we're gonna tell you where you're hosting it. Yeah.
• 28:21
Well, the, then the whole Key West thing, w- the reason that he was doing Key West, 'cause so many, we would go to these races and nobody was volunteering to host. Right. And he was like, "Fuck you guys.
• 28:30
If nobody's gonna host, we're gonna go where there is no mountain biking whatsoever. We're gonna ride and we're on the beach. We're gonna drink all day." And, um, and this kinda has been like that. Like,
• 28:40
in the Midwest there was a lot of teams competing. I mean, when we did Wisconsin there was like- Yeah... 12 teams. Yeah. We- It was North Dakota- It was almost like-... Kansas City.
• 28:48
No, it's Kansas City was mad they didn't come that year. Ah, fuck Kansas City. But, uh, they, they're cool. I wanna go to Kansas City. I don't. [laughs] I don't give a fuck. I'm not going...
• 28:58
Oh, if I go there, I'm just gonna bellyache the whole time I'm there just like they do. Yeah, that's fine. Which might be kinda fun. Well, I don't know. Let's go to Kansas City. That, Thad's cool.
• 29:05
Well, and they actually, and actually they have very cool riding there. And he's w- Thad's got a coffee company or whatever, right? Yeah. Yeah, so. No, but the, the riding there is, it's totally different.
• 29:13
They, they would've been in it. You would love it. You're gonna love riding there. It's not so much climbing, it's like- It's gotta be urban assault trails, urban assault trails. It...
• 29:18
Well, it's like, it's got the, like, it's the one place that we're riding at, we're down there for the Midwest Summit that one time, was like- Oh... here's the- Spicy waste...
• 29:26
there's this big flat rock area, and you have to figure out how to get across it 'cause there's like crevices and stuff. It was, it was cool. It was a fun place to ride. I enjoyed the shit out of it. Mm. Well, I think,
• 29:37
uh, what I was getting to is, like, I think if that, uh, we do the Midwest, people wanna host in the Midwest. I mean, that's what kinda what we do. Yeah. We're like, "Come to our place, see our stuff." You know?
• 29:47
I think other... I don't know. S- uh, Seth did a really good job out in Maine. I think that, uh- Maine was fantastic. Yeah. There's no getting around that. He, he did great hosting.
• 29:55
He, he- That co- that course was great. The, um- Well, he had pre-rides. He's like, "These are the bars you go to." Even though there wasn't... I mean, we had a hard time finding beer, which maybe is a good thing.
• 30:04
We got to the trails faster. Imagine if we could've drank every town- [laughs]... that we went through, that've been a different deal. But, um, no, I, I think, uh, he showcased Maine very well.
• 30:13
And, um, yeah, same thing out in Washington. Same thing in, uh, Pennsylvania State College. And, you know, and it might be something that everybody else is
• 30:22
less apt to wanna show off because, you know, people go to the West Coast and- Yeah... ride bike because it's, it's known for it, you know? We're a little less well-known.
• 30:30
That being said, I mean- I'm waiting for somebody in Minnesota to, to come and win this and bring it up to Cuyuna or Virginia and go up in northern Minnesota because the mountain biking up there is just blowing up.
• 30:41
I mean, it's- What's... Yeah, what is... So what are we gonna do for the, uh, hosting? Like, if somebody from Minnesota wins? 'Cause 2013 was in Minnesota. Yep.
• 30:51
So you can't host again for 10 years or you just, well, you can't host in the same spot or do you say- Well, we've, we've kind of gotten to the point where we've blown that away.
• 30:56
As long as it's not in the same spot, just like, um- There, it never has been in the same state twice, has it? Surry want...
• 31:01
Um, well, there was that bit of an argument about it when it was Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan 'cause it wasn't [laughs]- Yeah, but those are different states. Everybody's bitching...
• 31:09
different states, but different states, but at the same time we were, like, within two hour- But it'd be, like, no different than East Coast, right? Well, well, yeah.
• 31:14
Don't have, like, Midwest drinking games as your fucking competition. [laughs] In fact, in fact, you know, how you started this podcast about how well we drink. Um- Uh, well, or b- poorly we drink. Poorly drink.
• 31:25
[laughs] We drink a lot, doesn't say we're drinking good. [laughs] That's true. We can still be sloppy, just do- drink a lot more.
• 31:31
Um, so I don't think we're gonna give away anything that we're gonna do for hosting contests. I got a few ideas. Uh- Oh, so do I. I'm just, I've just, I've been, like...
• 31:43
I, I can't say as I've actually been laying awake at night thinking about things, but I have come up with, um- I got some Norwegian Viking games. Um- Oh. Yeah. [laughs] And it's not everybody wrestle me.
• 31:54
We're not doing- [laughs] We're not doing that anymore. Bullshit. I'm getting old. That's gonna be a fucking automatic. That, that- Yeah. [laughs] Whether you like it or not, it's happening.
• 32:02
[laughs] And i- and it's not because it's part of the competition, it's just what fucking happens. Yeah. You wind up wrestling. But I, I did, I tried super hard not to this, in Maine, and then it just- That-...
• 32:13
inevitably it just fucking happens. [laughs] Yeah, there it is. That's the first picture. [laughs] Yeah. Although, that was technically wrestling versus jiu-jitsu or whatever. Jiu-jitsu. Yeah. Jiu-jitsu. Jiu-jitsu. Yeah.
• 32:22
Yeah. But, yeah. Like, I'm surprised- And guess who won... our hair didn't get tangled. [laughs] Well, yeah, that's the thing. I told everybody that. It's like... [laughs] And we said this a million times.
• 32:33
It's like, how many jujitsu belts make an Iowa singlet? [laughs] Like, you just don't... I mean, it's... I don't know.
• 32:39
Yeah, I was gonna say, is this, this- I don't know if I don't want this stuff or everybody just wants to fuck with me. I'm just, I'm tired of it. [laughs] So we're not gonna bring up last night?
• 32:50
No, we're not bringing up last night. [laughs] No. 'Cause there was more wrestling. There was. [laughs] There were punches thrown. Yeah, I got punched. [laughs] But we're friends.
• 33:01
And then he- Then he gave me a ride home. [laughs] And the best part, it wasn't even Sue that did it. [laughs] Not this time. Yeah. [laughs] Okay. So is there anything going on in Rochester?
• 33:14
What's, what's, what we got to end out the year? So what's today? September... Well, it's, uh- Is there... Oh, there's a, there's a zombie ride in Osage. What? Joe Kissling is, uh- Is it on... So- Putting on- Um...
• 33:25
end of... Is that first of October or something like that? Uh, first of October? The, uh- I gotta... It's in my calendar. All right.
• 33:29
It's, I talked to him up at Levis, and he's, uh, talking about he's g- they got a zombie ride going on, and they're doing a lot- That'd be like-... of good shit with the little that they have over there.
• 33:39
Um- That's all that matters. Yeah. It doesn't have to, it doesn't have to be a ton, it just needs to be- Well, Ward won their clunker race on an actual '60s whatever. Yeah, that- Yeah... I was, I was bummed.
• 33:48
I can't remember why we didn't make that. I think I'd, I had a clunker to ride, I just didn't have my clunker at the time, but there was something else that came up and we didn't make it down there. Yeah.
• 33:56
I was down there. It was... Yeah. It's- Well, I didn't live here yet. I, I, I... It'll be interesting to see if the clunker thing actually...
• 34:01
other than the fact that we all buy clunkers and ride them around and, and make fun of everybody else on their bikes, or if the clunker thing actually becomes the n- you know, we've talked about this before, it becomes the next single speed thing where a small group of us,
• 34:14
you know, stay, stay- Well, clunkers, clunkers are single speed and, but maybe we'll talk about the definition of a clunker. I mean, what does a clunker need to be? Does it have to be coaster brake?
• 34:22
A clunker has to be coaster brake. That, to me- It has to be single speed? Can you do a two-speed kickback? You could do a st- you could do a two-speed kickback as long as it's got a coaster brake.
• 34:30
I want one of those so bad. I wanna... Does anybody make a quality two-speed kickback hub? So what does W- Well, that one that-... Deek have? Deek has that one that's actually on a g- on a, on a Surly Cross-Check.
• 34:39
However, that doesn't have a coaster brake to it. It doesn't? No. Okay. It's actually a really expensive hub, I think. When it, and it, and it, and it, as you, as you backpedal, it goes from one gear to the other.
• 34:51
So if you kept backpedaling around, it would actually shift from the first to second, first to second, first to second, all the way around.
• 34:56
Where, like, on a, on a two-speed kickback with a coaster brake, you go back- You-... slightly and then it shifts, and then you pedal forward. Yeah.
• 35:03
You know, if, 'cause if you keep going back, your coaster brake engages, right? Yeah. Yeah, exactly, right. So, yeah.
• 35:07
So, so with this one, though, i- as, as you keep pedaling it backwards, it just keeps going from gear to gear to gear to gear. There's little paws that kick out. So it's... So that one- I love it... don't get me wrong.
• 35:16
That, that one's still cool, but technically I don't think we can call that a clunker because it's- Because that's not a coaster brake. Right. Right. Coaster brake required to be a clunker. Yeah.
• 35:23
That's, that's, that would be my- I just love the simplicity and, like, you get a little more of an option. And I like that you have to ride it differently. Oh, yeah.
• 35:31
That you have to know what you're doing, and you have to think about your shifting and your braking and everything. It's, it's a l- it's...
• 35:36
To me, it's similar to, and the guys in Kansas City are the ones that taught me this, where they were riding fixed-geared off-road. Mm.
• 35:42
Um- Did you just say, "Fuck Kansas City," and now you're like, "Oh, yeah, they-" Oh, yeah. "... they're cool." [laughs] I didn't say they were cool.
• 35:47
I said they showed me how to ride a fixed-geared off-road, and it's- I didn't say they're cool. I just learned everything I know from those- Yeah. Yeah.
• 35:53
Do you see me riding a fixed-geared off- They're a bunch of assholes, but, you know, what the hell? [laughs] Do you see me riding fixed-geared off-road anymore? No, that's really hard on your legs. No.
• 36:01
I fuck- I bought that one from you. I bought a steamroller. Was that bought, did I buy that from you? I bought a steamroller in Rochester when I was there, and I rode it- No...
• 36:06
around town a couple times, and I was just like, "This is dumb." [laughs] As I was trying to stop- I-... I was like, "This is pulling my legs apart. This is- My-... it's pulling my knees- Man...
• 36:15
my l- my calves out of my fucking knees. I'm done with, done with- The, the first one I bought was the Bianchi Pista. Okay. And that was my commuter bike for years, and then I did the steamroller,
• 36:25
and my- The steamroller's just a fixed Cross-Check, basically? Uh, basically, yeah. Yeah. And then my... [laughs] Where I really fucked up with that was is there was a, there was a, um, research doctor at St.
• 36:37
Mary's, and- Just not a very friendly guy, but he would always basically race me in in the morning. And so one day it was like, "Okay, I've had it with this dude," and I passed him.
• 36:47
I'd say hi, and he would just totally ignore me, right? Where'd he live at, Bayonne? So... Yeah, he, he lived out past me on Marion Road. On Rose Haven?
• 36:53
Well, pa- yeah, w- well, out on Marion Road farther out than I live. Okay. So he would come in, and we would kind of bump into each other.
• 36:58
So I'm not kidding you, there was one day, and this has been years ago when I was younger and maybe kind of faster, kind of fit- By younger, you mean, like, 50? [laughs] Probably, yeah.
• 37:08
[laughs] Um, so the guy's riding in. He's riding, like, an old 10-speed, right? Okay. And we were riding. I ride past him, and then he gets pissed when I pass him, so then he has to pass me.
• 37:18
So we get into downtown Rochester, and he literally fucking... I jump on the road like I would normally do off the bike trail. Then he goes up to the stoplight and cuts in front and then parks right in front of me.
• 37:28
Oh, okay. And I'm like, "Well, this is fucking stupid, so here we go. We're on." So we're, like, in traffic, and I ditched around a car
• 37:36
at [laughs] or in front of the government center and then passed him and then raced him up the hill.
• 37:40
I, in, clipped into sandals, on a fixed gear with headphones on, blowing, [laughs] just blowing through downtown and up, and up over the hill into the backside of St. Mary's.
• 37:48
And then I get to work, and I beat him, and I was happy, and I'm, I'm grinning ear to ear, and then I'm going, "That was really fucking stupid."
• 37:55
[laughs] I was like, nothing like diving in and out of traffic in sandals clipped into b- into fixed gear pedals. Yeah. Ugh. Dumb. Yeah. Yeah. It was completely stupid. Oh, I tried, I tried it for, like, a year.
• 38:05
I'm like, "Not for me." It's... And, and I don't think Rochester's really the place for it. I mean, it works okay there, but it's not- Nowhere. Where would be a good place for that? I don't know.
• 38:15
Where would be a good place for a fixie? Nowhere. I mean- I mean, it's a dumb bike...
• 38:18
No, I think in, like, in a, in a, in a big metropolitan area, and, and you are a bike messenger, like Pittsburgh or Pennsylvania or New York or, you know, m- where, where you use it to accelerate and d- deaccelerate by that.
• 38:32
[sighs] And you're riding through traffic maybe. I'd still have a cheater brake. Yeah. Oh, I think- Yeah. Yeah...
• 38:37
um, and I think that's why the Steamroller and some of those other ones you had, because New Jersey, I think, passed a law that said you had to. Okay.
• 38:44
So, uh, rather than, rather than determine where the bikes are gonna go, the Steamroller came with brakes on it whether you liked it or not. Take them off yourself, but we can't take them off for you.
• 38:52
We're just gonna ship them with them on there, if I remember right. And I just talked about how I like riding a clunker because of the coaster brake and two speed and because you have to ride different. And [laughs]
• 39:03
fixie, you do, you have to ride different, but I just, I, I don't, I don't know. That, I do not like it. [laughs] I, I like a lot of things, and I've never rode a e-bike, and I will never ride a fixie.
• 39:13
[laughs] I never say a... Yeah. Well, the first time I rode a fixie was Ron's. It was on RAGBRAI, and you were pulling the- Oh. Oh, maybe RAGBRAI-...
• 39:23
pulled by- Oh, I did, I- On the west side of the state, that'd be fine, 'cause there is no hills... No, I, there was some guys from New York, and I jumped in on them. I did four years of RAGBRAI on a fixie. Ugh.
• 39:32
Like- Yuck. We had the bob trailer full of beer. Yep. Obviously. And I jump on it, I take off, and I come to the first T, and it's like, "Where's the frick the brakes?"
• 39:42
[laughs] That would be the best if you were drunk and... [laughs] Well, actually, no. You, you had one outside the bar in Rochester, and some guy was gonna steal your bike, and you're like- [laughs]...
• 39:51
"Yeah, fucking take it." [laughs] And then he went, and he fucking f- This- Did he fall over? No, this [laughs] there was, we were sitting outside of a, um... It was called Love Ugly.
• 39:58
It was a pretty cool bar down in downtown Rochester. That's after the- And this g-... roller skating derby girls did their thing... Oh, that's right. It was, wasn't it? Yeah. Yeah.
• 40:05
So this great big dude says, "Can I borrow your bike?" And I'm, like, going, "Sure. Go ahead." [laughs] And, and he jumps on it. He's riding away, and everybody's like, "You know he's gonna steal your bike."
• 40:13
And I go, "No, he's not." And he goes about, I don't know, maybe 10 pedal stroke, and he throws the gun and goes, "Dude, there's something wrong with your bike," and walks away. [laughs] Yeah, it's a fixie. It is wrong.
• 40:23
[laughs] Come to think of it, I think, I think he pulled it down because it was hanging in a tree at the time. Yes. I'd rather lock it up by just hanging it in a tree. Oh, yeah, we did that.
• 40:30
We were just like, uh, we, instead of the bike stack, we just hung them that night. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] Good stuff. All right. That's, that's- Are we at time limit?
• 40:38
Yeah, we- We didn't do, uh, ring the bell or, uh, top of the hill or whatever... We don't, that's those other guys. We just drink. Yeah, we just drink. Yeah. Yeah, we don't, we don't... It's not special.
• 40:44
[laughs] It's, it's, it's, it's what we do. This was, uh, this is the premium, uh, vintage 19- We are- 1884 PBR 16 ounce. What did we drink yesterday? Oh, yeah, we drank Miller Lite yesterday. Everything. Yes.
• 40:57
[laughs] Yeah, everything. Well, maybe that wa- maybe that was Jamie's idea because we were drinking Miller Lite, that we had to drink a shot with every Miller Lite because it wasn't really drinking. Well, the menthol.
• 41:05
He loves to do menthol shots and that's- What is with that? I don't know, but he's done it, uh, every... It's usually, uh- Gives you fresh breath... New Year's Day. [laughs] New Year's Day we ride to Lufton.
• 41:14
We'll have to do a podcast every- when we do that next year. Dr. McGillicuddy's. Dr. McGillicuddy's Menthol, and it's like- Mentholips, yep...
• 41:19
your, your breath probably tastes like shit from partying the night before, and he's like, "Oh, here's a mouthwash." [laughs] Here's a menthol McGillicuddy's. [sighs] What is your dog looking at?
• 41:29
She's been looking at something. There's something out there. I know. We did- Well, well, two days ago there was a possum. Yeah?
• 41:34
And that was, that, the other night that was a possum out there, and it kind of freaked me out even a little bit. I wasn't ready for that. So Holly's got coon hound in her. Oh. And she is extremely good hunter,
• 41:46
um, whether I want her to be or not. There must be something out there she, she, she, that she sees. Yeah. She has not moved from that spot. No. Well, she went up in the woods the other night, and I was just like,
• 41:56
"What are you doing? Come on, come on, come in here." She comes out of the woods with a mouse in her mouth. [laughs] And then, uh [laughs] Oh. And, uh- There's a chipmunk over there... she's done that a couple times.
• 42:05
And then she, I've, like, let her go the other day, and she came out with another one. She must know where the nest is. And then the o- two days ago, she was just sitting there just watching the woods.
• 42:13
Like, she was just doing, like, a little scan, and then she froze. And she's, like, looking up in the woods right behind that, like literally, what is it, 20 feet, 30 feet by my house. And she takes off,
• 42:23
and this deer goes running, and it was a buck sitting in backwoods by my house, and she was just, she chased it out of there. [laughs] That's awesome. She just, I don't know. Some dogs just have that in them.
• 42:35
But the problem is, too, if there's treats in your drawer, if there's treats in your house, she knows they're there.
• 42:39
Oh, she walks in the back door and sits right by the, by the island because she knows that's exactly where the treats are.
• 42:45
[laughs] She hasn't been here in, like, a year, and all of a sudden there she goes, just goes and parks her butt there. Her little nose just gets her in trouble. [laughs] All right. Thanks, guys, for stopping by.
• 42:54
We will, uh, carry on again- Uh... in a couple weeks. Yep. After we, after, after hopefully everybody gets their clunkers and we get a chance to ride them a little bit, we'll do a clunker, we'll do a clunker podcast.
• 43:04
We'll have to- Do a clunker down here? Yeah. Or should we, you know, maybe we should go up to Rochester, right? We should come up, because I don't think we'll ever get Brad to come down.
• 43:10
And even if he did- So maybe you guys should come up. We'll, we'll, we'll do it. We, we could actually get every- That's the hard thing about the bar. Nobody ever leaves. Let's go up there...
• 43:14
We can, we could, uh, actually get everybody to, um, sit in, in the, uh, salon chair for a change since this is what the podcast is supposed to be about. There you go. So we'll do that.
• 43:23
Let's, let's get me a tracker collar- Yep... so I don't end up in the wrong [laughs] fucking town. [laughs] So you guys can keep track of me. So you don't go to the Douglas Saloon again and end up- Without your pants.
• 43:31
Yeah. Without my pants, right. All right. See you guys. Thanks for everything. In a couple weeks. Rock out. All right. We're out of here. Rock out!
• 43:42
  [rock music]
