- 0:39SPEAKER_04: Welcome in everybody to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, Part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_04: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez.
- 0:45SPEAKER_04: My co-host, Tristan McGonagall, is here.
- 0:47SPEAKER_04: Tristan, what's up, buddy?
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: I my body is still reeling from this past weekend, but it reels in pain.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, not pain.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: It reels it the pain is pain.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: The pain is it reels from victory, from happiness, from joy, from one of the happiest days of my life, Steven.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: That was last Saturday.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: Um don't you think that's fair?
- 1:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, it was absolutely electric.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: Uh my wife is listening to this.
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: Our trip to Lubbock, Texas was a success overall.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: Uh, probably did a number on all of our bodies, but yes, it was absolutely so much fun to see the friend group back in Lubbock for the first time that all of us were there since when?
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: Probably graduation for all of us.
- 1:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's probably for all of us.
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: That was the first time since 2018.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: That's awesome.
- 1:42SPEAKER_04: It was uh it was so much fun.
- 1:44SPEAKER_04: It was fun being back.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: Uh, like I mentioned on the pod last week, that was my first time back in four years, and uh, it's like a lot of the stuff just hasn't changed, which is the way that I want it to be.
- 1:55SPEAKER_04: Uh, now there have been some things that have changed, but Lubbock, Texas is beautiful, it's a wonderful place, and uh, we had a blast.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Probably spent 23 hours total at Chimmies.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: I that was that was a lot of chimmies.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: Now I like chimmies, I really enjoy chimies.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: The pregame before the game at Chimmies is the move.
- 2:14SPEAKER_04: Is a move.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: We went to Chimmies far too much.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: We didn't expand out.
- 2:18SPEAKER_04: We should have gone other places, but we stuck to the old stomping grounds.
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: But it was cool, it was great.
- 2:24SPEAKER_04: Chimmies is great.
- 2:25SPEAKER_04: The bank account didn't like it, but chimmies is no, neither did my liver, okay?
- 2:29SPEAKER_03: No, yeah, the liver or my brain or my stomach.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: Um, but dude, you know, it was it was hot, but it wasn't that hot, you know, this past weekend, which was really nice, you know.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: It wasn't like we were steaming, you know.
- 2:43SPEAKER_04: No, it was it was a little bit hotter than what I probably wanted for a late September game in Lubbock, but um, no, it was it was nice.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, the sun was kind of beaten down.
- 2:53SPEAKER_04: I I got a little sunburn going, but it was cool.
- 2:55SPEAKER_04: It I mean, the beer was helping.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: Um, but do you know who was extra hot?
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: Who's that?
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: Those boys in the red and black.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, all the Texas.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: I was waiting for the boys.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: I was waiting for you to say something.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: They are hot, okay?
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: They they got it done, and I want you all to take that in any way you want to, comedically or seriously.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: I'm all about it.
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: So uh, but yeah, dude, we went and got it done, dude.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: And what the funny thing was, I don't know if it was just because we had that we were riding a buzz where you don't really feel much in terms of emotion yet, but um I I wasn't scared the entire game.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, whenever you lead the entire time, that helps, but even whenever it got kind of dicey in the middle of the game, like we were we were uh we were cooking.
- 3:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and before we get in any further talking about the Arizona State game, we need to do one thing.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: Play the song, Steven.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Please.
- 3:58SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, we're gonna play the song.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: Play that song.
- 4:01SPEAKER_06: Red Raider coming at you, riding through the night with a fury of Texas wins.
- 4:09SPEAKER_06: Red Raider coming at you.
- 4:11SPEAKER_06: What a beautiful time.
- 4:13SPEAKER_06: The Texas Tech Red Raiders riding right again.
- 4:20SPEAKER_04: Your Texas Tech Red Raiders are three and one on the year.
- 4:23SPEAKER_04: This is what everybody expected after the Abilene Christian game.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: Everybody says Texas Tech is gonna get it together.
- 4:30SPEAKER_04: They're obviously set to be three and one, one and oh in conference.
- 4:34SPEAKER_04: We're in first place in the Big 12 right now, okay?
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: Time to seven teams.
- 4:41SPEAKER_04: Nobody can say that except for six other teams right now, that we are first in the Big 12, and we have the good old Bearcats coming into town.
- 4:50SPEAKER_04: But Arizona State, like you mentioned, I wasn't really afraid throughout the entire game.
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: It just felt like we had control.
- 4:58SPEAKER_04: Obviously, the fast start 14-0 turnover immediately by Arizona State.
- 5:03SPEAKER_04: Um, and then it kind of evened out from there.
- 5:05SPEAKER_04: The offense um wasn't as hot as they were in the first half.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: Um, but you know, we did enough to win, and the defense had one of their best performances of the season.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: There was unfortunately no 50 burger, which was kind of sad.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: But uh, but dude, seriously, uh a likes out performance.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: You know, defense obviously was the shining light in this game.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: Once again, Tim DeRuder earning that paycheck.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: Um, and obviously the crowd helped a ton, even though it was hot.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: The Jones was still rocking, still full.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: So, dude, just a raucous environment that the Sun Devils could not withstand.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: No, not even Cam Scattaboo could withstand, which uh he had a he had a good night.
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: You look at his stats, 117 yards through the air, 60 yards on the ground, but only a 3.3 average uh on the ground.
- 5:54SPEAKER_04: So um, you know, I I think you kind of held him in check as well as you could have, considering Arizona State's whole offense was give it to Scataboo and let him do something.
- 6:07SPEAKER_04: Uh, I thought their quarterback, Levitt, was not great.
- 6:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, definitely missed a few throws, uh, wasn't really timely.
- 6:13SPEAKER_04: He didn't take off.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: There was uh yeah, there was a ton of hype going into this game that he was kind of gonna be a running quarterback, and we were like, uh-oh.
- 6:23SPEAKER_04: We've seen that before at uh Pullman Washington.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: And uh he just didn't.
- 6:28SPEAKER_04: I don't know if that was just a better defensive performance by us if we kind of contained him, kept him in the pocket, didn't let him um escape or run out for extra yardage.
- 6:38SPEAKER_04: But uh what it seemed to me is that he just wanted to take those throws that he took and he was off, man.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, dude, it wasn't nearly as sharp as he appeared in the Texas State game that was able to catch the game before.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Um, and I mean, obviously, that's to our benefit benefit.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: So I do think that the the the defense did a good job of keeping him in check.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, he was pretty removed from the game from the game for the most part.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: So um, and like I said this in the before in the preview episode that if we're gonna lose, we're gonna look we're gonna look really stupid because they're just gonna beat us on the quarterback run.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's where they're gonna get us.
- 7:11SPEAKER_03: It was just it would get so annoying.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: And I thought that would be the dagger that ASU would have in the back pocket if they're gonna pull it out.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: But thankfully, obviously, that was not the case.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, he only ran for 25 yards, so pretty in check, my dude.
- 7:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:26SPEAKER_04: Um, on our side of the ball, I thought Barron had a pretty good game uh overall.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: I mean, you look at his completion percentage at 50, 201 yards, two touchdowns.
- 7:35SPEAKER_04: It's not the uh, you know, it's not the most impressive stat line, but I thought he made throws early on that really were nice.
- 7:43SPEAKER_04: I mean, just I mean, on target, right in the hands, didn't seem wild, didn't turn the ball over.
- 7:49SPEAKER_04: Um, and you look at that stat line and you're like, okay, he 20 incompletions, what's going on there?
- 7:55SPEAKER_04: But I mean, there were four or five drops there in the second half from tech receivers that I thought should have been caught.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: And then you also have to take into account the uh the plays where you know he's just getting rid of the ball.
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: He's getting pressure and he's getting rid of the ball.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: He's either trying not to take a hit or he is avoiding a sack.
- 8:13SPEAKER_04: And and those don't necessarily show up on the stat sheet quite like you want them to.
- 8:17SPEAKER_04: But um, no, I thought Barron was solid.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, the offense was pretty serviceable.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, you you got 30 points at that point.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: You could you know, hope that your defense holds you below that.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, I think that's that's fairly reasonable.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: But I mean, as we play better teams, I don't think we get we can count on that every single time.
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: And we've already seen it before other teams torching us, so offense may have to keep up in that sense.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: But uh, like you said, dude, it's they got they he did well enough to keep the offense moving.
- 8:42SPEAKER_03: Um, it's hard to complain too much whenever you're uh you're scoring in every quarter, you know, and then shut you out of any.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: So, you know, he the ball was moving downfield, and obviously the the uh the guy in the back there is is the is the key to that.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: So uh did enough serviceable.
- 8:56SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 8:57SPEAKER_04: Taj Brooks, 117 yards on the card.
- 9:00SPEAKER_04: Give him everything, let him have it.
- 9:01SPEAKER_04: Texas Tech is eight and two when Taj Brooks eclipses 100 yards rushing uh in his Texas Tech career.
- 9:08SPEAKER_04: So, you know, it works.
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and not even just Taj, man, even Dickey was out there making key plays.
- 9:15SPEAKER_04: Dickey had a great one.
- 9:16SPEAKER_04: That that spin when he should have been taken down uh behind the line of scrimmage and spun out of it and ended up getting a really big gain.
- 9:23SPEAKER_04: That was a massive play there in the fourth quarter to keep that drive going.
- 9:27SPEAKER_04: So yeah, he's been he's been really good.
- 9:29SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm really happy with him.
- 9:31SPEAKER_04: And uh Jalen Conyers even ran one in against his former team uh for a rushing touchdown.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: He didn't do much else the rest of the game, but he got that one and he got a touchdown on his former team.
- 9:40SPEAKER_04: So that was cool.
- 9:42SPEAKER_03: How can you not get so excited when we see him back there, you know, line up in the back like that?
- 9:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's it's exciting because what 260 pounds of dude just coming at him?
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: That's it's awesome.
- 9:54SPEAKER_04: It's really cool.
- 9:54SPEAKER_04: He's he's a weapon.
- 9:56SPEAKER_04: All all these tight ends are weapons.
- 9:57SPEAKER_04: I mean, Mason Tharp even had a had a big catch.
- 10:00SPEAKER_04: He did have a big drop this game that uh probably would have gone in for a touchdown if not.
- 10:04SPEAKER_04: Um, I know Barron missed him on one that he was wide open.
- 10:09SPEAKER_04: He threw, I think he threw into double coverage uh on Caleb Douglas, and Mason Tharp was wide open, but uh the tight ends keep doing work, and John Carlos Miller caught that touchdown at the beginning of the game.
- 10:20SPEAKER_04: So um just a whole lot of good going on from your tight end room still.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, dude.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: And they're both so good at different things.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: That's what's so fun about them.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, just our weapons are so fun, man.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, and even obviously, you know, we could probably move on, and you he were just saying it before we then started recording how much you love Josh Kelly.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's just so good to have a reliable receiver that can just do it all for you.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, because man, we we missed that last year, and this guy is as good as advertised.
- 10:47SPEAKER_04: He has 31 catches on the year.
- 10:50SPEAKER_04: Not bad.
- 10:51SPEAKER_04: Not bad, second in the nation, not bad.
- 10:53SPEAKER_04: Just behind Travis Hunter, some guy at Colorado.
- 10:56SPEAKER_04: So that guy's okay.
- 10:57SPEAKER_04: That guy's okay.
- 10:58SPEAKER_04: And Josh Kelly, what he's fourth in yards receiving.
- 11:03SPEAKER_04: He's got uh let me see, he's got three touchdowns on the year.
- 11:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's proving to be uh uh one of the best wide receivers in the entire country to start off the year.
- 11:13SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's a consistent eight to nine catches, ten catches every game.
- 11:17SPEAKER_04: He's he's so good.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: This guy made the right decision to transfer to us, guys.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, we are we are lighting up his uh uh uh score score sheet, man.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: Yep stat sheet, I'm insane.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 11:29SPEAKER_04: I'm stupid, so I should correct myself.
- 11:33SPEAKER_04: Fourth in the big 12 in receiving yards.
- 11:35SPEAKER_04: I was looking at those, but uh there's some good receivers here.
- 11:40SPEAKER_04: Travis Hunter, uh the McMillan from Arizona, he's a stud.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: This guy from TCU, Beck, I guess they're using a ton.
- 11:48SPEAKER_04: Um, but no, I mean, really, really, really happy with how you won.
- 11:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, you just you held them to 22 points, and it would have been 16 if it wasn't for one final touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, your special teams was on point, your kickers continued to just not miss.
- 12:03SPEAKER_04: Um, and then we even saw the Aussie get a few punts inside the inside the five.
- 12:08SPEAKER_04: One was called a touchback, it should not have.
- 12:11SPEAKER_04: So realistically, you should have two punts in the one.
- 12:14SPEAKER_04: Um, just a just a good performance overall, man.
- 12:17SPEAKER_04: I was I was thrilled with everything.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, dude, it just everything you want in a uh being live at a Texas Tech game.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Obviously, the those of you out there that were out there with us having a blast as well.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: Um, and dude, I I remember reminiscing, like, I I remember the last time I've gone to a tech game when we've lost.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: And that's a really weird sentence to say because you know, I've seen a Texas Tech game every year, and it's not like we've been exactly uh undefeated.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: So it's it's been awesome, man.
- 12:45SPEAKER_03: Maybe I just need to get out some more games.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: And uh our good friends over at Tortillas and Takes um have challenged me.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: Mr.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: Alby Shore have has told me now that and thank y'all.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: I just want to be up front, thank y'all so much for the love of the stash.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: Y'all really gaths me up on the on on the webs, and I appreciate that.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: And good news, y'all, it's staying until we lose.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: So until we lose, the mustache remains.
- 13:12SPEAKER_04: You have to do it.
- 13:13SPEAKER_04: When you came in with just the mustache, I was I was shocked.
- 13:16SPEAKER_04: I knew I was I I wasn't appalled though.
- 13:19SPEAKER_04: Not bad.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: You weren't you weren't shocked, you were pleasantly surprised.
- 13:23SPEAKER_04: No, I was shocked, but I wasn't appalled, you know.
- 13:26SPEAKER_04: Like, I'm okay with it, it looks good.
- 13:28SPEAKER_04: You're you're pulling it off, and uh thank you, and you have to keep it for as long as tech keeps winning.
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: So we we win Cincinnati.
- 13:36SPEAKER_04: You're we're going through the year.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: As a teacher, I have to like ride a fine line with the mustache, you know.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: So yours, you're pulling it off.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: You're fine.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: Thank you, thank you, appreciate it.
- 13:45SPEAKER_04: You're fine.
- 13:46SPEAKER_04: So, yeah, man.
- 13:47SPEAKER_04: Anything I mean, I guess we could talk about the defense a little bit.
- 13:50SPEAKER_04: Um, interception by CJ Baskerville at the beginning of the game.
- 13:54SPEAKER_04: That was kind of the momentum shift um early on for this defense.
- 13:58SPEAKER_04: We played, I think I saw the stat from Ben Golan at Red Raider Sports.
- 14:02SPEAKER_04: I think we played 55% of the total snaps were by underclassmen on the defensive side of the ball for Texas Tech.
- 14:09SPEAKER_04: And that you can't say enough about the growth from those guys from game one against Abilene Christian, where everybody looked terrible, to game four, where we put together a really complete solid defensive performance.
- 14:24SPEAKER_04: And a lot of that was on the heels of guys like Chapman Lewis, guys like Mo Horn, who had to be the number one corner this past week because of Braylon Lux sat out.
- 14:34SPEAKER_04: Um, Macho Stevenson, who did miss a big tackle, made a big mistake uh early on, but I thought overall played pretty well.
- 14:41SPEAKER_04: Um, and those guys on the defensive line, John Curry, I mean, uh, younger, younger players that are really stepping up and playing well when they need to most.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: So uh shouts out to those younger players.
- 14:52SPEAKER_04: They got a lot of crap early on in the season.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so you have to kind of give them a little bit of praise when they do well.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, and it's so awesome to see the coaches develop these guys, like you're saying, and watch them uh adjust their play to get things right.
- 15:05SPEAKER_03: And man, does this just bode so well for the future of this unit?
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: And I think this is a strong reminder that as Texas Tech fans, and we we are we're all we're all victims of it sometimes, but we cannot be reactionary whenever it comes to uh results on the football field.
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: I have to say that to myself too, you know?
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, that in a sport like college football, in a school like Texas Tech for sure, like we were truly in a rebuild.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: And if you want to get to the level that you want Texas Tech at, we had to sit here and lay the foundations and build it brick by brick, as they say, as football coaches, because the pieces are there.
- 15:48SPEAKER_03: And during UNT, we saw what the offense will look like in a short a few short years as well.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: It looks damn good, just like this defensive unit.
- 15:57SPEAKER_03: And I mean, where we have we have you know renewed Big 12 hopes this year, you know, potentially.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: And just imagine what things will look like a couple of years down the down the road, and especially if we keep recruiting players at this level to maintain that once we get there.
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: It's just it's a really, really good picture.
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, I'm not trying to drink too much Kool-Aid right now, to be honest with you.
- 16:21SPEAKER_04: I've I've this was this was a really good performance against what I think is a solid Arizona State team.
- 16:27SPEAKER_04: Now, I don't think Arizona State are world beaters.
- 16:30SPEAKER_04: Like that 3-0 before this was fraudulent.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: It ended up being that way.
- 16:35SPEAKER_04: Um, they're still in a very incomplete team after watching them, but they're on they're on the come up.
- 16:41SPEAKER_04: I don't want to, you know, just crap on them after they just took an L.
- 16:45SPEAKER_04: But um, no, I think Kenny Dillingham's doing a good job over there, but I don't think I still don't think they're a top half Big 12 team right now.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: So so I hope we are.
- 16:55SPEAKER_04: I hope we are, and and the good news is you have momentum going in your direction.
- 16:59SPEAKER_04: I mean, you talk about this defense is getting better each and every week.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: Your offense is clicking right now.
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: Um, now we'll see what happens when we have to go to Tucson.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: I'm still worried about these road games, but uh at at least at home in Lovick, you're you're really solid.
- 17:16SPEAKER_04: And looking through, I I if you don't mind, I'm gonna look ahead and rave about the schedule again because look at who you have coming up.
- 17:28SPEAKER_04: You have Cincinnati, who could be good, but we don't really know.
- 17:32SPEAKER_04: You go to Arizona, who got womped by Kansas State, granted it was in Manhattan, but then Kansas State goes and gets womped by BYU.
- 17:43SPEAKER_04: So, you know, Arizona's looking a little sus.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: Then you return back home to play Baylor, who may or may not have a head coach at that point.
- 17:52SPEAKER_04: True.
- 17:52SPEAKER_04: You go to Fort Worth to TCU, who had the worst loss probably of anybody at the power four level last week.
- 18:00SPEAKER_03: The frogs are in meltdown mode.
- 18:01SPEAKER_04: The frogs, the frogs are looking tough, yeah.
- 18:04SPEAKER_04: Uh in in the bad way, not in a good way.
- 18:08SPEAKER_04: Uh, and then you know, it starts to get a little more difficult.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: You have to go to Ames, you have to go to Stillwater, you do get Colorado back in Lubbock, and you get West Virginia in Lubbock.
- 18:16SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's there's a lot that can happen for this Texas Tech team this year, and just because we had a pretty poor start to the season, you know, doesn't mean that we can't just get it rocking and rolling.
- 18:28SPEAKER_04: But I'm trying to stay a little even keeled right here.
- 18:30SPEAKER_04: But this schedule gives you a lot.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: Agreed, dude.
- 18:34SPEAKER_03: And the thing about the Big 12 games moving forward to me is just win, baby, in the sense of like, you don't have to make it look perfect and amazing and blow each team out for me to feel good about the team.
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: If you just go out there and get wins, I'm happy about it.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: I know that's like a really easy cop out answer, but honestly, in this conference right now, with the way things are shaping up, uh, I think the only team you should want to be blowing out is Houston right now.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: Um, because everybody else looks at least fairly competent.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: We'll see which one who slides which way.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: Um, but like I said, man, let's just get out there and win.
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: And the Cincinnati team, they're looking a little frisky, you know, they're looking a little frosty out there.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: And you know, I don't think that's just gonna be a uh uh a rollover and die game for them, you know.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: But I feel good about hosting them at 7 p.m.
- 19:23SPEAKER_04: Yep, night game.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: Late game.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: I don't think I've ever seen a game that late in Lubbock.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: That might be a record.
- 19:29SPEAKER_04: No, 7 p.m.
- 19:30SPEAKER_04: 7 p.m.
- 19:31SPEAKER_04: It's kicked off at 7 p.m.
- 19:32SPEAKER_03: Aren't games usually at 6 30?
- 19:34SPEAKER_04: No, sometimes.
- 19:35SPEAKER_04: I mean, it depends on the TV times.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's nothing to the Tucson game at 10 p.m.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: Brutal.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: We'll be going to bed at three.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: That was brutal when they announced that.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: I was like, are you kidding me?
- 19:49SPEAKER_04: We're going 10 p.m.
- 19:51SPEAKER_04: kickoff, central God's time.
- 19:54SPEAKER_04: The Fox executives are not taking to account God here.
- 19:58SPEAKER_04: They're not, okay.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: They are forgetting about God and they're forgetting about the only time zone that America cares about on the East Coast, and it's just this is insane.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: And uh, you know, what's obviously we'll talk more about it next week, but God, what a what a baptism in Big 12 after dark because it doesn't get more after dark than 10 p.m.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: Listen, after the last one that kicked off uh real late for us, I am just really hoping that I don't have to stir in my in my my thoughts for 12 hours after I've woken up on Saturday to watch this game.
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: Um but why would you win Saturday to make us feel way better about sitting in those 12 hours?
- 20:49SPEAKER_03: No, at least with with that.
- 20:52SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about Cincinnati.
- 20:54SPEAKER_04: So Bearcats are three and one on the year.
- 20:56SPEAKER_04: Uh they had three wins all of last season, so this is a uh an improved squad, I would say.
- 21:02SPEAKER_04: Um went over towson 38 to 20, took the comeback loss to Pitt uh in the last seconds.
- 21:10SPEAKER_04: Uh they beat Miami of Ohio 27 to 16, so not super impressive there.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: And then they go and blow out Houston 34-0.
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: Um, I have no scope on how good the Cincinnati team is.
- 21:22SPEAKER_04: I don't know if they're I don't know if they're just really good and they've just been, you know, this is their style of ball where they just, you know, they win and they do enough to win, and then you know, they don't go and overclass you or whatever.
- 21:36SPEAKER_04: Uh, but uh a 34-0 win against a Big 12 team is impressive, even if it is Houston.
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: Like Houston could be just awful, but they're still at least a competent, I think, team, and to shut them out is is impressive regardless of who you are.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: You know, and honestly, but dude, they should probably be 4 0.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: Like that that pit game was a real slip up, like they had them the whole Game and they just really let Pitt get back into it at home, too.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: So that's a double extra hard look on it.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: Um, but thankfully we will be uh hosting the Bearcats, so that makes me feel better about uh regardless if they're actually better than we think um or not.
- 22:16SPEAKER_03: But it's it's just like you said, dude, this is so hard to gauge on the Bearcats, and it's gonna be a bit of an inaugural game in the Big 12 between the two of us, um, with the only game in our history being a tie.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: So um it's I'm looking forward to it though.
- 22:31SPEAKER_03: Uh they really copied us on the red and black, though, I gotta say.
- 22:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: Like that's our move.
- 22:37SPEAKER_04: That's our move.
- 22:38SPEAKER_04: That's our color scheme.
- 22:39SPEAKER_04: You can't have that.
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: Utah, you too.
- 22:41SPEAKER_04: You can't have that either.
- 22:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you two.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:45SPEAKER_04: But an interesting fact about the Cincinnati team, this is gonna be their first true road game, which no, yeah.
- 22:52SPEAKER_04: No, they played Miami of Ohio was a neutral site game in Oxford, Ohio.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, I guess that's not Miami.
- 23:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, yeah.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: So uh this is gonna be their first true road game, first true road environment for Cincinnati this season, which is uh a culture shock, especially when you go to Lubbock for the first time.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: It's uh and at night.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: So it's it's definitely sold out crowd.
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, sold-out crowd.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: We're three and one.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, you know, you're gonna get a good crowd for this game, and uh, you know, Cincinnati just has not faced that type of environment yet.
- 23:26SPEAKER_04: And um, we talk uh we talk a lot about night games in Lubbock.
- 23:30SPEAKER_04: It hasn't looked good on the record the last several years, but Texas deck in general doesn't have a great record the last several years.
- 23:37SPEAKER_04: So yeah, um there's a lot that goes into scheduling those night games.
- 23:40SPEAKER_04: Usually it's a a better opponent at that point when you're playing a night game, and you know, you're more likely to lose those ones.
- 23:48SPEAKER_04: But um, with Joey's record at home since he's arrived at tech, with it being that type of atmosphere with Cincinnati coming to their first true road game, it's uh uh it may be a tough one for him.
- 23:58SPEAKER_04: I think you have a real advantage if you're Texas Tech here.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: So you're really thinking that's like the ace factor there is a ruckus crowd in Lubbock for the person?
- 24:07SPEAKER_04: I think so.
- 24:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, even Arizona State was saying it.
- 24:09SPEAKER_04: You know, Kenny Dillingham, I watched his postgame presser, and he was like, it was awesome in there.
- 24:13SPEAKER_04: Like it was a great environment.
- 24:14SPEAKER_04: It's tough to play in those environments.
- 24:16SPEAKER_04: And uh from being in there personally last weekend, it was a great crowd.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: We were loud, it really was it was electric in there.
- 24:23SPEAKER_04: I was I was thrilled to be back into the Jones and seeing the brand new uh South End zone is I was about to say we haven't brought that up yet, dude.
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: It was unbelievable.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: It's holy shoot, dude.
- 24:35SPEAKER_04: It looks like a completely different stadium.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it does.
- 24:39SPEAKER_04: It that thing is so massive, it towers, it just towers over everything, and then you see it from the highway, like you see it's it's nuts.
- 24:46SPEAKER_04: They did uh they did a fantastic job there.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: Looks amazing, dude.
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: But I'm totally with you, dude.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: I I feel really good about this game.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: Like I think Cincinnati is probably better than uh people are realizing.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: I'm sure people are kind of waking up a little bit to it.
- 25:00SPEAKER_03: Um, but I you know what I'm expecting?
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: I'm expecting very much in Arizona State-like score line, is what I'm thinking.
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: I think it's gonna be kind of a similar game like that.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: Um, hopefully we score more points, but I'm really hoping we don't uh let Cincinnati go over 22 like we that uh did with Arizona State.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: So um I that's kind of the outlook I'm seeing.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: What are you seeing?
- 25:21SPEAKER_04: Well, these are two teams that play completely different styles.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: Texas Tech likes the tempo, they like to run a lot of plays.
- 25:27SPEAKER_04: Cincinnati runs a more balanced, kind of slowdown style offense.
- 25:31SPEAKER_04: Um, so I think another piece of this game is whoever controls the pace is gonna win this one.
- 25:37SPEAKER_04: If we play a slow down, grind it out, you know, slug fest, we're gonna see probably Cincinnati either come out with a victory or you know, play it real close.
- 25:48SPEAKER_04: If we see a high scoring game, I don't think Cincinnati has the personnel to keep up with that type of stuff.
- 25:53SPEAKER_04: So um you want to get out and run early and score early and often if you're Texas Tech.
- 25:58SPEAKER_04: I mean, obviously you want to do that, but you really want to do that um and play an up tempo style because Cincinnati is not used to that.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so it just sounds like kind of just overwhelm them with the attack.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: And uh because, like you said, like uh obviously this is kind of a no-duh, but uh you know, if you can get out there and score aggressively, you probably probably cannot keep up with it, like you said.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: They haven't really shown that they can keep up with that.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: So if you can get spicy and Zach Hidley can get in, as his kids say, the bag, um, he we can do some damage because these guys, they have not scored more than 40 points all season.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: Um, even against Towson, they didn't, they only scored 38 points.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm not saying those are low numbers, but obviously a Texas Tech is absolutely capable of dropping 50 on you, and I would like to see that again.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: Uh and uh hopefully the uh the crowd can will less there.
- 26:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and they also just don't turn the ball over.
- 26:51SPEAKER_04: Like Brendan Soresby is the only quarterback in the Big 12 right now, only starting one who I don't think has turned the ball over.
- 26:58SPEAKER_04: Not once.
- 26:59SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, he's uh he's been really good in the pocket when he's got when he's got time.
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: His offensive line has been really solid for him, so he's got time for the most part.
- 27:09SPEAKER_04: I thought Tech's pass rush the last couple games have been better.
- 27:12SPEAKER_04: I don't know how they're gonna fare up against the Cincinnati offensive line, but uh you have to put some pressure on him and not give him time.
- 27:19SPEAKER_04: But you're really hoping, and this is where you know, I bringing in this crowd factor that it kind of gets to him a little bit, rattles him early.
- 27:27SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, he doesn't make a throw that he's been making this season.
- 27:30SPEAKER_04: So uh, but yeah, he's been really good.
- 27:32SPEAKER_04: I've I've been impressed by by Soresby this year.
- 27:35SPEAKER_04: He's been easy to transfer, isn't he?
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think he was at Penn State last year, or was he at Purdue?
- 27:41SPEAKER_04: It was a big 10 school.
- 27:42SPEAKER_04: It was a big 10 school, yeah.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: But uh yeah, dude, no, absolutely.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think that's the whole point, that's the whole theme of Cincinnati is just kind of unexpected uh this season.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: So, but we probably are truly their first real test.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: And that that's that's obviously something to be said.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: I think we've already been tested clearly.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: Like Wazoo's obviously a good team, and uh Arizona City State has proven to be a competent team as well.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: So uh I I think we will be their first test, and I I hope it shows, and I think it'll show.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: Wow, we were both wrong.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: Hey, I was closer.
- 28:16SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 28:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you were same states.
- 28:19SPEAKER_04: You were you were closer.
- 28:20SPEAKER_04: Uh correct.
- 28:23SPEAKER_04: No, but uh yeah, I there's there's this team is is good.
- 28:29SPEAKER_04: This is going to be a good opponent that we're playing.
- 28:31SPEAKER_04: Like, I don't think this is gonna be a breeze by any means.
- 28:34SPEAKER_04: Uh, one other guy I wanted to mention on Cincinnati, besides the running back.
- 28:38SPEAKER_04: I mean, they're running back, it seems like every week we're just gonna play a good running back because apparently the Big 12 is a running back constantly.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: Or smash mouth though, dude.
- 28:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Corey Kiner's been really good this year.
- 28:47SPEAKER_04: He's uh he's got a few more yards than Taj on the year, averaging about 6.3 yards of carry.
- 28:52SPEAKER_04: He's got a couple touchdowns.
- 28:54SPEAKER_04: So he's uh he's a guy to watch out for.
- 28:56SPEAKER_04: And then uh they have a big receiver, Xavier Henderson, who is just big.
- 29:01SPEAKER_04: He's a massive dude, big target.
- 29:03SPEAKER_04: Uh, he had one play last game where he was just he just jumped over the guy, caught it right over the cornerback.
- 29:10SPEAKER_04: Not even the cornerback stood no chance.
- 29:12SPEAKER_04: So uh would really like to have Braylon Lux back for this one if you're Texas Tech.
- 29:17SPEAKER_04: Not that Mo Horn has been bad or whatever.
- 29:20SPEAKER_04: Uh he's he actually did a pretty good job against Arizona State, but um, I think he may have a tougher time against a receiver like Xavier Henderson.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: So uh let's get Braylon back and uh and get our get our team back.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: One full powered team, thank you, I would say.
- 29:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so it's solid, man, but uh looking forward to it.
- 29:38SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be fun 7 p.m.
- 29:40SPEAKER_04: kickoff.
- 29:41SPEAKER_04: So we won't have to stay up until uh one in the morning watching us listening to the biggest.
- 29:46SPEAKER_03: No, well it'll probably be one of them, it'll probably be about one of them.
- 29:50SPEAKER_04: Uh probably closer to midnight.
- 29:51SPEAKER_04: 10, 10 11, I'm thinking.
- 29:53SPEAKER_04: 10 30 11.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, all right.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: That's fair.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: And then we'll be able to catch uh some uh pack or mountain west after dark, so that's prime.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: If we won, of course, if we lose, I'm going straight to bed.
- 30:01SPEAKER_04: But um if we lose, I'm gonna cry and go to bed.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: But dude, uh, so yeah, final thought, man.
- 30:08SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't know if you saw, but the uh the Kelsey brothers on the podcast.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: Apparently, Travis Kelsey has made a bet with our boy, Patrick Mahomes.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: So uh excited to see who is humiliated on uh on uh Sunday or Monday, actually.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: I don't know when they they're gonna do the bets, but they'll probably do it Sunday.
- 30:26SPEAKER_04: They'll probably have to do it in like the post-game presser or whatever.
- 30:29SPEAKER_04: He's wearing a tech shirt.
- 30:30SPEAKER_04: That would be funny.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: That would be really funny.
- 30:32SPEAKER_04: You think they saw my meme?
- 30:34SPEAKER_04: No, my meme.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: Did you do a meme?
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: I don't think I saw the meme, friend.
- 30:39SPEAKER_04: I've been doing these comparisons of like whoever we're playing and Patrick Mahomes, like a famous alum.
- 30:45SPEAKER_04: So this this week's was obviously Travis Kelsey and Mahomes, and uh yeah, Travis Kelsey, only four passing yards in his career.
- 30:53SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, that's it.
- 30:55SPEAKER_04: Patrick Mahomes has over 29,000 in his NFL career.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: So wow, that's that's that's a rough look for Travis.
- 31:02SPEAKER_04: It is, it's tough.
- 31:03SPEAKER_04: Um he also doesn't have any Super Bowl MVPs.
- 31:08SPEAKER_04: Uh Patrick Mahomes has three.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: So some would say he's a sidekick.
- 31:13SPEAKER_04: Some would say he's a sidekick.
- 31:15SPEAKER_04: Cincinnati is the big 12.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: Also, in my research, I figured out that President William Howard Taft went to the University of Cincinnati.
- 31:24SPEAKER_04: And uh Taft is a big boy, he's the fattest president, so take that for what it is.
- 31:29SPEAKER_04: Okay, it's kind of a dub.
- 31:30SPEAKER_04: It's kind of a dub.
- 31:31SPEAKER_04: I didn't want to say it.
- 31:34SPEAKER_04: He's only known for being the fat one.
- 31:36SPEAKER_04: That's the one facial hair.
- 31:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's got good face, but everybody knows Taft because he's the fat one.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: He was huge.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: If we're a time when it was hard to be that huge, that boy ate.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: That's a dub for Cincinnati.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: You can't play that up for sure.
- 31:54SPEAKER_04: I saw George Clooney too.
- 31:55SPEAKER_04: I don't know if that's actually true, or if it's one of those situations.
- 31:59SPEAKER_04: Or if there's one of those situations where he like went for a semester and then dropped out and became a famous actor.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: Look, we can't start doing that because our list shortens up when we start doing that, okay?
- 32:10SPEAKER_04: What are you talking about?
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: I don't want to mention the ones we're talking about.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: Only one of the most famous country musicians of all time is what I'm talking about.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're not doing that.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: We're not going there.
- 32:27SPEAKER_04: Our alumni are better, Patrick Mahomes.
- 32:30SPEAKER_04: He wins.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: But yeah, dude, this rounds out the uh the G the G5 bolt-on.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: Uh what was it?
- 32:38SPEAKER_03: What would it be at this point?
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: 2022, 2021, like what we announced.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, this is our second year here, so um, but yeah, this this rounds out that group that we haven't played on the gridiron yet.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: So yeah, um, and now obviously we're getting into the pack, but um oh we're no, we are not playing Utah.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say we might do the package one, I don't think one sweep.
- 32:56SPEAKER_04: No, I don't think we're playing Utah until like 2026.
- 32:59SPEAKER_04: So we're actually avoiding them a good amount.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: That's okay.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: Let them let Whittingham retire.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: Fine with me.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: Let Whittingham retire within that time period, which he will, and leave us the new coach.
- 33:10SPEAKER_04: So he's so good.
- 33:12SPEAKER_04: That team, with all the crap that they go through with Cam rising every year getting hurt, like they are just a machine.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: Dude, it's there's they're gonna be solid, but that school owes their life to Whittingham.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: Obviously, Urban, but like their life to Whittingham.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: That guy has built them into a juggernaut year in and year out.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: They don't saltwater, Utah.
- 33:36SPEAKER_04: They don't owe Salt Lake City, Utah.
- 33:40SPEAKER_04: Saltwater, Utah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_04: You know, just like Cincinnati owes their life to Tommy Tupperville, uh, known known Cincinnati head coach and nobody else.
- 33:50SPEAKER_04: He never coached anywhere else, Tommy Tupperville.
- 33:54SPEAKER_04: Senator, right?
- 33:54SPEAKER_04: He's a senator.
- 33:56SPEAKER_04: Is he still a senator?
- 33:57SPEAKER_04: I think he still is.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: He might be what of the great state of Alabama.
- 34:01SPEAKER_04: He was a senator, right?
- 34:02SPEAKER_04: That was his okay.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: I don't know if he still is or not.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: Um I don't keep up with Alabama politics.
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: Um, but but in the in the in the great words of Tommy Tupperville, most beloved coach in Texas Tech history, um, and get a job.
- 34:23SPEAKER_03: And that's what we're saying to Scatterfield after Saturday.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: You remember that you remember that fan heckling him in the in his last season at Cincinnati, and he like yelled, get a job.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: Get a job all over Cincinnati.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: Was it like he saw Coach and he like yelled, get a job, get a job, good combat, coach.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: You know, not bad.
- 34:44SPEAKER_04: Not bad.
- 34:45SPEAKER_04: It's kind of funny.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, he called Lubbock Iraq.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: Was that him?
- 34:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that was him.
- 34:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that was that was a tough look.
- 34:51SPEAKER_04: That was a really tough look.
- 34:53SPEAKER_04: He's just not a good person.
- 34:54SPEAKER_04: We can at least us and Cincinnati fans can come together on this.
- 34:59SPEAKER_04: Uh Tommy Tubberville can just go away.
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: That guy sucks.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: You our our administration and fan base, I mean, this was obviously slightly before us, must have been so done with him for him to sneak out during a dinner to go take the Cincinnati job.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: So when you're in the Big 12.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: So I I I uh I don't think that guy was uh feeling good in at the LBK.
- 35:24SPEAKER_04: No, uh no, but whoever wins or who I'm sorry, whoever loses has to get Tommy Tupperville to coach for their team for one year.
- 35:32SPEAKER_04: So a lot on the line here.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: At the very least, you're like he is your coach for the time being, like in the in the in the high 80s.
- 35:39SPEAKER_03: Like he's he play he coached you in the time that you claim him if you lose this game.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: That's pretty funny.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: We need to we need to find I'm gonna add I'm gonna add some uh since since he accounts and say that's that's the that's the bet.
- 35:51SPEAKER_04: Do that, do that.
- 35:52SPEAKER_04: I'm excited, man.
- 35:53SPEAKER_04: I've excited it's been fun playing the new teams.
- 35:56SPEAKER_04: It has, it has.
- 35:57SPEAKER_04: Every week leading up to Twitter, you start you know seeing and interacting with more fan bases.
- 36:01SPEAKER_04: So uh there's been some you enjoyed your ASU one.
- 36:04SPEAKER_04: So the ACU one was funny.
- 36:05SPEAKER_04: Those guys were those guys were a little mean.
- 36:08SPEAKER_04: They were a little mean.
- 36:09SPEAKER_04: They're a little mean, we like a little mean.
- 36:11SPEAKER_04: We like them.
- 36:12SPEAKER_04: We like a little mean.
- 36:13SPEAKER_04: I can handle a little mean.
- 36:14SPEAKER_04: Cincinnati's not been nearly as mean, but that was probably expected.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, I feel like Cincinnati is just that we're gonna be one of those fan bases that's just really grateful to be here, you know, like be back in the big show.
- 36:25SPEAKER_03: You know, they're not they're not looking to shake the boat, you know.
- 36:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, you know, they were just in the college football playoff like four years ago.
- 36:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: I know, I know.
- 36:35SPEAKER_04: This this school has accomplished a good amount.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: They have, and it's so funny.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: It's so funny that we sit here and like talk about like oh the silly little G5 team.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: You know, they're the second biggest team in Ohio, and they have been a power team before, they just spent a short time in the American.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Cincinnati's a pretty storied program, I feel like.
- 36:56SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, for the most part.
- 36:58SPEAKER_04: But enough of that.
- 36:59SPEAKER_04: Okay, we're gonna beat them this weekend, okay.
- 37:02SPEAKER_04: And Brandon Soresby is gonna throw three interceptions and we're gonna win by 50, and it's gonna happen.
- 37:07SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: So it's gonna feel really good.
- 37:09SPEAKER_04: It's my final prediction.
- 37:10SPEAKER_04: No, I actually think Texas Tech is going to win this game.
- 37:13SPEAKER_04: Me too.
- 37:13SPEAKER_04: Uh for those hey, you were wrong last week.
- 37:16SPEAKER_04: I was.
- 37:16SPEAKER_04: I was wrong.
- 37:17SPEAKER_04: You're wrong, dog.
- 37:18SPEAKER_04: Was I wrong?
- 37:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you you picked ASU.
- 37:21SPEAKER_04: Okay, okay.
- 37:22SPEAKER_04: I'll take that one.
- 37:23SPEAKER_04: That's fine.
- 37:23SPEAKER_04: Uh, Texas Tech, prove me wrong.
- 37:25SPEAKER_04: Keep going in Lubbock and uh keep this going to four and one, may I say?
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: That feels pretty good, dude.
- 37:32SPEAKER_03: That feels pretty good.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: 2-0 in conference, and I feel mad good running into the next games if we get this done.
- 37:39SPEAKER_04: So yeah, looking forward to it.
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: All right, man.
- 37:41SPEAKER_04: You got anything else, or are we gonna call it?
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, uh, we obviously we are since we're uh everybody's go-to college football analysts, any thoughts on the drama that's going on out west?
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: And that can mean multiple things.
- 37:55SPEAKER_04: Are you talking about all the realignment?
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: The realignment and UNLV, which which involves both questions, you know?
- 38:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, so the UNLV thing, the so the quarterback decides to redshirt after a really good start for UNLV, four-no start.
- 38:14SPEAKER_04: They've beat two power five or power four level teams with Houston and uh Kansas.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: Kansas being real contender quotation marks.
- 38:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, awesome, cool.
- 38:25SPEAKER_04: Good luck, pick 12.
- 38:26SPEAKER_04: You both lost a UNLV who can't keep a quarterback.
- 38:29SPEAKER_04: Um Nil related.
- 38:31SPEAKER_04: I I just don't I'm not surprised by an NIL-related issue.
- 38:35SPEAKER_04: Like the fact that this guy is leaving after their 4-0 and actually in a really good position to potentially steal that last playoff bid as a you know a G5 level program out of Mountain West.
- 38:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, out of on its head, it sucks.
- 38:49SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, you you hate to see that in the sport, but as soon as you instituted NIL, you knew stuff like this was gonna happen.
- 38:55SPEAKER_04: There's gonna be there's always sketchy agents out there that are doing bad things or trying to uh you know trying to just steal money from schools or text tech those weird agents, yeah.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: We we bury them on Twitter all the time, at least two of them.
- 39:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we know we know Chris Wash very well uh about sketchy NIL agents, but uh no, I mean there's there's just gonna be a bunch of people that are gonna take advantage of these, you know, 18 to 21 year old kids trying to, you know, make uh what is life-changing money with it being you know a hundred thousand dollars was what this kid apparently was uh either asking for or was that's life-changing money for a while in your life, just to have it, just to be given.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: So yeah, so I mean, I don't necessarily blame him if if he thought he was promised something and then they either went back on it.
- 39:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, I think this was just a misunderstanding on both parties of what was happening.
- 39:51SPEAKER_04: So it's it's a bad look for both because this kid trusted this what seems like a sketchy character to represent him, and the school, you know, either overpromised or did not give the kid what he was promised.
- 40:05SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 40:06SPEAKER_04: I like it's uh it you're gonna see more and more of this.
- 40:09SPEAKER_04: Like, I'm not surprised by it.
- 40:10SPEAKER_04: People are mad about it.
- 40:11SPEAKER_04: I'm not mad about it.
- 40:12SPEAKER_04: I'm just this is what college sports is.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: It'll be interesting to see what the like the rebound for this kid will be.
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, is he going to be able to go and find a new spot or is he gonna be like toxic, you know, does or are they people gonna avoid that situation because the price tag is already out there in his eyes?
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: And it's like, well, is this guy really worth that?
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: You know, and then we really want that in the locker room.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: And you know, I I'm not gonna sit here and pick a side because I don't think that the details are clear at all.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, if the kid got royally screwed out of money, I mean you can understand why he's gonna be like, I'm gonna take a red shirt so I can go out and actually make this money that I expected to get.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: Um, and obviously you feel the the real victims in all this are his teammates who are, you know, have this team positioned, undefeated, beating teams, and now the most important position on your field suddenly says, I'm not getting paid enough, I'm out of here, and you're like, Oh my god, I'm not even on a professional team, and this is happening.
- 41:11SPEAKER_03: So it's it's a weird predicament.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: Uh, but it's the uh the world we live in now, man.
- 41:16SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, you just gotta blame the NCAA for not putting any guidelines or any rules in place when it comes to NIL.
- 41:21SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's what it is.
- 41:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, does this just show their days are numbered, the NCAA?
- 41:26SPEAKER_04: Not to pay you off.
- 41:27SPEAKER_04: No, yeah, that's what it's always been trending towards.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: I mean, even with all this conference realignment, we're just eventually gonna get a massive super conference and then they're gonna split apart from the NCAA.
- 41:37SPEAKER_04: I think that's the ultimate end game here.
- 41:39SPEAKER_04: But um, I don't know if that's 10 years down the line.
- 41:42SPEAKER_04: I don't know, that's 20 years down the line or whatever.
- 41:44SPEAKER_04: But um, yeah, it's it's not fun because you're seeing a team that had a chance to be, you know, kind of a stunner this year and story of the year and a fun story, and now it's kind of down the drain.
- 41:55SPEAKER_04: But who knows?
- 41:56SPEAKER_04: Maybe they have a decent backup quarterback and they can keep it rolling.
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: But that'd be awesome.
- 42:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it sucks.
- 42:01SPEAKER_04: Sucks.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, the the hardest part part of their schedule's over.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: So you know you're rolling into the Mountain West conference, so maybe they can still go out there and do it, dude.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: So that that'd be really sick.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: And just to touch on real quick, so um, it looks like the Beeves and the Couggs out west are trying to just tape together the Pac-12.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: I expected this to happen, but not like this.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: Um, so it's crazy to watch this weird back and forth between the Mountain West and Pac-12.
- 42:27SPEAKER_03: Because the really strange thing is the the Beeves and Cougars are like paying the Mountain West to keep their teams while the teams they're trying to get are being paid by Wazu and Couggs to stay in the Mountain West.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: So it's like a super weird overlapping situation.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: Like I understand why the Couggs and Beevs are trying to just take the top brands from the Mountain West so they can get as much value as they can, especially whenever they went out to the American and failed with UTSA, Tulane, Memphis, and um USF.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, we can talk about that in a moment.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: But just to finish this thought, at this point, it looks like it's been an absolute fumble from the the Pac Two.
- 43:08SPEAKER_03: At this point, it's truly looking like you obviously hindsight's 2020, but you obviously should have just did the agreement where the Mount West absorbs into the Pac-12, they drop the Mount West, and they all become the Pac-12 together for free.
- 43:22SPEAKER_03: And you get to keep all that money, and you're essentially just doing that only for a way, way higher price.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: Do you have any thoughts on it?
- 43:31SPEAKER_04: Was that on the table?
- 43:32SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, apparently, um, if they were going to they're if they're gonna merge, it was gonna be at no cost.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: And obviously they'd merge in with uh with the back with the Pac 12 uh properties, and obviously you obviously you switch to the Pac 12 when that happens.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: So um, but yeah, that's uh they've kind of blown that out of the water at this point.
- 43:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, I haven't really been paying too close attention.
- 43:55SPEAKER_04: I to be honest, like I at this point, if they add Mountain West schools, if they Yeah, American schools, I mean, it's just still a step below.
- 44:03SPEAKER_04: Um, like you know, people thought because we added Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, and UCF that it was like doing that.
- 44:09SPEAKER_04: This is really like doing that.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: You're not moving up at all.
- 44:13SPEAKER_04: I mean, what you yeah, I I'd probably agree with you that they probably should have just merged um with the Mountain West and and gotten those brands there.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: But um, yeah, man, I mean, we'll see what it all ends up being.
- 44:25SPEAKER_04: But uh this this doesn't interest me as much as normal realignment does.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, it's it's obviously uh a really tough look whenever you reach out to American teams and they reject you, like especially a school like UTSA were to reject you.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: Um that's a tough look.
- 44:44SPEAKER_04: The runners, man, they're too good for that.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: I know, and the runners have been a program for what, like 15 years, and they're turning down the pac-12.
- 44:52SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, the ghost of the Pac-12.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, but it's an interesting case for the American because uh it may have more to do with money than it does to uh with the potential in the Pac-12.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: But dude, it just kind of reiterates, it just kind of reshuffles that like UT and OU royally screwed over countless programs, like countless programs, and now everyone's out here in the wilderness just lost.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: And the gap between the P5 or the P4 and the G6 is about to get like cataclysmic.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: It's nuts.
- 45:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's uh it's nuts, it's just gonna get worse as we go, but it is what it is.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: Nil in realignment, we love it.
- 45:33SPEAKER_04: Woo-hoo, it's totally not making the sport worse.
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: Uh, but we're still gonna watch.
- 45:37SPEAKER_04: I don't care.
- 45:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, sorry, man.
- 45:39SPEAKER_04: Still my alma water, still gonna watch it's college football.
- 45:42SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: Uh I I'm glad he sat there through Tristan's uh college political uh round table there.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: So I know you like appreciate it.
- 45:52SPEAKER_04: I know you like it, but I can't emphasize enough that this Pac-12 thing has been just so uninteresting.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: It's just this is my drama, okay.
- 46:02SPEAKER_03: My wife, wait, I tried to watch go watch the Mormon wife show, dude.
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: It's so bad.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: I can't do it anymore.
- 46:09SPEAKER_03: Like, it's just like it's not even good.
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: Like, it's just it's straight up the inf these influencers gotta deal with Hulu to do a show.
- 46:16SPEAKER_03: That's literally all it is.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: It's not even like juicy at all.
- 46:20SPEAKER_04: It's fantastic.
- 46:21SPEAKER_04: It's I've seen maybe five minutes of an episode, and I tell you what, they really don't like that one girl.
- 46:28SPEAKER_04: Uh it is kind of funny, it it's kind of funny putting now.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: We're talking about the Morbid Wife show.
- 46:34SPEAKER_04: Uh, it's kind of funny seeing like all these women who are the same as any reality TV show, except they all have two children that are aged five, yes, and all of their husbands look exactly the same.
- 46:46SPEAKER_04: Yep, and it's an and they look all exactly the same.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, it's uh yeah, it's not it's not one of my favorites.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: It's it's the it's the influencers pretending to be Mormon show.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: That's like that's what this is.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, I can't do this anymore.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: I'm not watching it anymore.
- 47:02SPEAKER_04: I'm out, I'm out on that one.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: I try to give her one, and I'm like, I can't do this.
- 47:06SPEAKER_04: Can't do this.
- 47:07SPEAKER_04: You liked MILF Manor a lot more.
- 47:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, that was way better in moment.
- 47:14SPEAKER_04: All right, man.
- 47:15SPEAKER_04: Listen, let's finish this off here with a song of the week for the people to listen to.
- 47:20SPEAKER_04: Song of the week presented by Subway, Eat Fresh.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: Don't ask us if it's five dollars.
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: It's not five dollars.
- 47:30SPEAKER_04: It's not anymore.
- 47:30SPEAKER_04: It's like$650 now.
- 47:32SPEAKER_04: It's ridiculous.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: Uh all right, dude.
- 47:35SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go with a song that's not even that doesn't even have a studio recording publishing, because I know you get this from YouTube anyway.
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna go with you're just outing me.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: How rude.
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go with Lubbock by Flatland Cavalry.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: This song is going to be released soon.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: And since we just spent a weekend in Lubbock and we played that song, and it just, you know, it's a vibe, especially after drinking.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: I am going with Lubbock by Gletto Cordero slash Flatland Cavalry.
- 48:13SPEAKER_06: Nothing like a little bit of Loving hitting me.
- 48:18SPEAKER_04: Good choice.
- 48:20SPEAKER_04: Good choice.
- 48:20SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, we'll be released soon, I guess.
- 48:24SPEAKER_03: It will do the tweet during the game.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: It was like this gets 806 retweets.
- 48:29SPEAKER_03: No, it got well beyond that.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: It got a lot of things.
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be released now.
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: Way to go.
- 48:33SPEAKER_04: Okay, looking forward to it.
- 48:34SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, good song of the week.
- 48:36SPEAKER_04: Love Lubbock, it's the best place ever.
- 48:38SPEAKER_04: Uh, my song of the week, I'm going to stick with the country theme.
- 48:42SPEAKER_04: And I've been digging on this guy uh for I don't know, probably the last month or so.
- 48:47SPEAKER_04: Um, you guys introduced him to me.
- 48:49SPEAKER_04: He's very old, uh, like old school 90s country vibe to him.
- 48:55SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm gonna go with I Never Lie by Zach Top.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: Um, really, really good jam, also really good song.
- 49:02SPEAKER_04: Like he's just spouting off things that he absolutely does, and then he says, I never lie.
- 49:06SPEAKER_04: Um, but it's I mean, straight up Alan Jackson, George Strait, 90s feel to it, and it's uh it's just really good country music.
- 49:14SPEAKER_04: So I never lie, Zach Top.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: Wish I could say I miss you, but you know I never lie.
- 49:27SPEAKER_03: Excellent choice, dude.
- 49:28SPEAKER_03: Way to wear around it out.
- 49:30SPEAKER_03: Take us home.
- 49:31SPEAKER_04: Alrighty, folks.
