- 0:00Speaker 1: Uh, well, you didn't tell us anything about your trip.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I need to call my travel agent. Though my trip
- 0:06was really a kind of sedate. I mean it was.
- 0:09I can't, you know, do a lot of physical activities,
- 0:11so I didn't go hiking. People would go hiking, and
- 0:13I stayed stayed in this really nice house that we
- 0:16like in Escalante and read What did you read? Was
- 0:21reading a novel?
- 0:22Speaker 1: Why won't you tell me what it is?
- 0:24Speaker 2: It's called Little Meg by John Crowley?
- 0:26Speaker 1: And I've read about this.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Novel you're I just told you the name of it
- 0:31and the author, Gina don't. I don't see you writing
- 0:34it down. I don't think it's a novel that you
- 0:38would like.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Why what's it about? It's he doesn't want to talk
- 0:44about it.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I don't know why it's it's a novel about you
- 0:51just wouldn't like it. I want to know what book
- 0:54you think. I wouldn't like a lot of a lot
- 0:58of the books I've read, you wouldn't not like. Please
- 1:01give me I'm reading. Also, it's because I can't. It's
- 1:06too difficult.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I'm not smart enough to follow it.
- 1:09Speaker 2: That No, I'm not smart enough to give you a
- 1:12plot synopsis. Because there's so much odd stuff going on
- 1:15in the book. It's a very strange novel. I've read
- 1:20it before, even I found it. It's funny. I found
- 1:24a lot of the books that I've kind of gotten
- 1:25attached to over the years when I've been on vacation
- 1:28and I've gone to, like in a drug store and
- 1:33they used to have a lot of paperbacks, a twirl
- 1:35rack or something. And I found it in a twirl
- 1:38rack in Springville, Utah, as a matter of fact, as
- 1:41a paperback, and I thought, well, that sounds interesting. And
- 1:44it's just a very odd book about a family and
- 1:49their relationship to fairies and changelings. And by fairies I
- 1:53mean the little people of course, and and world domination
- 2:00and and love and loss.
- 2:02Speaker 1: And it's got everything.
- 2:04Speaker 2: It's good. A lot lot going on in this book.
- 2:07And let's see what else did we do? We went
- 2:08to the Hell's Backbone Restaurant and uh, you know, I
- 2:13mean it was just a kind of a very casual down,
- 2:19just kind of relaxed.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, well that sounds nice.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I did go. I went to Devil's Garden, which is
- 2:25I've been there before, but but again, I can't hike
- 2:27through Devil's garden. Now, so I sat. I sat in
- 2:30the car outside of it and walked looked at it.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Wow, to take your complicated book with you or anybody
- 2:38else want on a hike?
- 2:39Speaker 2: I did. I did. It's a book that you would
- 2:42find just you wouldn't care for it. I know you.
- 2:45Speaker 1: You know I'm going to have to read it. Now.
- 2:47What's it called? Again?
- 2:48Speaker 2: A Little Big by John Crowley? And I don't know
- 2:52how old it is. It's you know, it's been out
- 2:56for a while.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Okay, you're gonna make me read it.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I don't think you should read it.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm offended that you think I wouldn't.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Would you? Did you find it?
- 3:07Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 3:09Speaker 2: What is it? Is there a synopsis or something? What
- 3:11does it say about it?
- 3:13Speaker 1: It says John Crowley's masterful Little Big is the epic
- 3:16story of Smokey Barnabull, an anonymous young man who travels
- 3:19by foot from the city to a place called Edgewood,
- 3:22not found on any map, to marry daily alice drink
- 3:25of water, as was prophesied. It's the story of four
- 3:29generations of a singular family living in a house that's
- 3:32many houses on the magical border of another world. Okay,
- 3:39it's twelve dollars. I'm buying it.
- 3:42Speaker 2: What what is that hardback? You two can have a
- 3:45little book. You can get a paperback. Well, maybe it's
- 3:50had a print. I don't know. I just downloaded it
- 3:54to Kent. I bought another copy of it for Kindle.
