- 0:48She's a happy girl.
- 1:03Your prayer every day should be that God gives you the words to say and the
- 1:07courage and strength to say the words he has for you so that others may come to know him.
- 1:12When your words come from Almighty God, they are going to have a kick.
- 1:17Therefore, you should say them with power and conviction and without worry of what others may think.
- 1:22Join us in this program, Speaking with Boldness, as Kim Miller of Woman at the
- 1:27Well Ministries takes us through Ephesians 6.19, which says.
- 1:31And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly
- 1:37to make known the mystery of the gospel.
- 1:40Hello and welcome to this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries.
- 1:44And when you look at Paul's words in Ephesians chapter 6 and verse 19,
- 1:49where he says, As for me, that utterance may be given unto me,
- 1:54that I may open up my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel.
- 1:59When you think of all that Paul has done in his life to this point,
- 2:04and how God used him in such mighty ways,
- 2:09you understand that when paul asked that he might be given utterance so that
- 2:16he could speak boldly so that others would know christ that god granted that to him.
- 2:22And we as Christians should have that same purpose and that same goal in our
- 2:29lives that everything we do and everything that we say would lead others to Christ.
- 2:35But in addition to that, we should have this sole purpose of going out and being
- 2:41able to tell others about who Christ is and about the gospel and how the gospel
- 2:48changes lives and it transforms lives.
- 2:51And Paul gives us this account where he is asking for the boldness to open his
- 3:02mouth to speak to others the gospel of Christ.
- 3:06Not just to talk about who Christ is, but to be able to explain it and say it
- 3:12in such a way that others would come to know Christ.
- 3:16And that this mystery of salvation that others seem to have would be cleared up.
- 3:24And after speaking to him, after he comes to you with the intent and purpose
- 3:29to speak the words of Christ, that you would understand and believe in God.
- 3:36And if you think about that for just a fraction of time, you will see that every
- 3:42believer in their heart of hearts should have that same goal.
- 3:47And so often in our lives, we
- 3:50find ourselves in a situation where people around us do not know Christ.
- 3:55And it doesn't seem to put us in an urgency to speak the gospel.
- 4:03And I believe for some of us,
- 4:06it's because we have just gotten so accustomed to somebody else doing it that
- 4:13the best we can do is sort of point them to someone else i think also we just are afraid.
- 4:22We're afraid of what others may think. We're afraid that the person we're talking
- 4:27to may ask us a question we can't answer.
- 4:31We're afraid that we may say something that offends someone.
- 4:35And in the back of our minds, the devil is put in there that,
- 4:38well, they'll never want anything to do with Christ again if I do this wrong.
- 4:43So it's just best I say nothing. but you see paul in this passage gives us a
- 4:50recipe that if each of us would take to heart.
- 4:55And we would be praying to the lord to help
- 5:00us to be boldly able to speak
- 5:03the gospel in such a way that
- 5:06the mystery of it would be taken away and that
- 5:10those that we were in presence of who
- 5:14we were speaking to about the gospel of christ would
- 5:17be able to understand in such a way
- 5:20that they would come to the saving knowledge of jesus
- 5:23you see i think part of the problem that
- 5:27we have is that we don't reflect on our lives in such a way as to prepare ourselves
- 5:34for the times that we have coming about
- 5:37in other words we need to prepare ourselves to do the work of the lord,
- 5:44and that means we need to pray and in our prayers we need to ask the lord to use us,
- 5:51to speak through us and to give us
- 5:54the words to say in the opportunities that
- 5:57he opens for us and then when we find ourselves in those opportunities we need
- 6:03to be praying in our heart that the lord would teach us through the holy spirit
- 6:08what it is we'd have to say and that he would speak through us and we need to
- 6:13be living a life that we can hear the Lord when he speaks,
- 6:17so that we can tell others who he is.
- 6:20But it brings us back to that 2 Timothy 2.15, which is to study to show thyself
- 6:27approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
- 6:32rightly dividing the word of truth.
- 6:34So often when the Lord puts us in a place, we are speechless because we have
- 6:40nothing of him that we have studied or looked at or talked about or read or prayed with him to say.
- 6:49Now i'm not saying that when you go
- 6:52out into the world and you begin to find
- 6:55yourself in situations where you are surrounded by
- 6:58people who don't know the lord that for you to say
- 7:01something to them you must be a bible scholar and you've
- 7:04got to read it from cover to cover and you can quote all these
- 7:07scriptures i'm not saying that because sometimes your
- 7:11testimony of what god has done for you
- 7:14and through you and what you can do
- 7:17because of him and what he has given
- 7:19you in the gift of salvation is a wonderful wonderful.
- 7:23Testimony that softens hearts and
- 7:26opens eyes to the lord but what
- 7:29i'm saying is when paul said for
- 7:32me i want that the utterance may
- 7:35be given unto me that i may open my mouth boldly
- 7:38to make known the mystery of the gospel his goal
- 7:42was for the lord to give him the ability and
- 7:45to place upon him the words to say that
- 7:49he could make known the mystery of salvation and the gospel that was his goal
- 7:55when you have a goal when you have a desire you work towards that goal and you
- 8:04do everything you can to fulfill that desire.
- 8:08And if your desire and my desire
- 8:11was wrapped up in the same thing that paul's
- 8:14desire is right here in this scripture we would
- 8:17find ourselves in the word of god more often
- 8:20we would study what it says we
- 8:24would spend more time in prayer so that
- 8:26the lord could mold us and make us into what
- 8:29we need to be so that we are ready and able
- 8:32and capable and willing when he
- 8:35places us in the opportunity to speak
- 8:38the gospel of christ but i
- 8:42think what's happened in our lives is many
- 8:45of us have just become lazy in the
- 8:48gospel and so we categorize who
- 8:53it is that should be doing that well of
- 8:56course you would say study kim and of course you would you
- 8:59would study and of course you're praying the lord has called you to speak and
- 9:03teach his word but the bible says to go you into all the world and preach and
- 9:08teach the gospel and he didn't say that just to the preachers or just to your
- 9:14sunday school teachers he said that to his children,
- 9:19And each of us have been placed in a place in our lives where there are people
- 9:25around us who don't know the Lord.
- 9:29True story. I've lived where I've lived for many years.
- 9:33And it was just today, on Sunday, that I discovered in my heart that I didn't
- 9:41have any idea where my next door neighbor went to church or if she did.
- 9:45And she's lived here since before i
- 9:48lived here and though i talked to her about
- 9:51what i do and though i talked to her
- 9:54about the places that we
- 9:57bring the gospel though she sees that we are woman at the well ministries i
- 10:03have never asked her where she went to church and because i leave earlier than
- 10:10she would to go to church in my mind i guess i just assumed she went.
- 10:17She's a wonderful lady she's incredibly nice but
- 10:21i don't know for a fact that she
- 10:24goes to church and so as i begin to look
- 10:27at this message on speaking with boldness i thought to myself what What am I
- 10:32going to do tomorrow to make sure that I am in her presence to ask her if she
- 10:40goes to church so that I can then get to the place where I can say to her,
- 10:46do you know Jesus?
- 10:49Because it's a crying shame that I am on the radio, that I've written books,
- 10:55that I speak in places, but I've never spoken to my neighbor directly asking her.
- 11:02About her relationship with christ you see
- 11:05if my goal was like peter's i mean paul's was in this and if i was bold like
- 11:11peter was even impetuous as he was then i would begin to to make a plan which
- 11:20i have to find out where she stands with jesus.
- 11:26And be able to talk to her about the grace of God, the love of Jesus, the gift of salvation.
- 11:36That's all that Paul is asking here for him.
- 11:41What he wants is that ability. You see, and the Lord obviously honors that.
- 11:46The Lord will give you the desires of your heart if you delight yourself in him.
- 11:50And never have I seen a more true statement of delight in Jesus than to say,
- 11:57what I want you to do, Lord,
- 11:58is give me the words that I might be able to explain your salvation to those
- 12:04around me so that they can come to the saving knowledge of who you are.
- 12:08None of us are exempt from falling behind the laziness of saying it's someone else's job.
- 12:15But all of us are required to tell
- 12:19those people that God places in our path about
- 12:22him and it's my prayer that
- 12:25as you read this verse in Ephesians that you
- 12:29like me begin to reflect upon your life and to truly see that the purpose you
- 12:34have in life is to make Jesus known to those around you It is my prayer that
- 12:41he uses me and you in amazing ways today and always.
