- 0:11I found my freedom if I found it.
- 0:33Welcome to for Freedom podcast. This podcast exists to bring the
- 0:38freedom of the gospel for every day, Christians, with everyday
- 0:41issues. Now, here are your hosts, John
- 0:44hog, build, and James Seifert. What kind of shallow person you
- 0:57want to become recovering from fundamentalism or something?
- 1:03They're everywhere. I'll take some, I said, well you
- 1:06just stupid to begin with if there's such a word you're
- 1:10stupid, or now don't get flooded it like us and all you flubbed
- 1:16up, people your come together. Hello, we're on episode 32 of
- 1:36The Starving for truth podcast. We are with the for Freedom
- 1:40podcast today. This is Tyler speaking and I'm
- 1:43Austin. This is chance and I'm John.
- 1:47And I'm James, it's great to be able to do this podcast with you
- 1:51guys. Today, I'm gonna read a verse
- 1:52Galatians 5:1, it says for Freedom Christ has set us free
- 1:57stand firm. Therefore and do not submit
- 1:59again to a yoke of slavery. We have a what we're going to do
- 2:03today is we're going to go kind of back and forth with some
- 2:05questions to just introduce podcast and then also kind of
- 2:10dive into some subjects here. Both of us are on the RFP
- 2:13Network and it's kind of how we we connected and we hooked up
- 2:17And so, let's see, we'll just go with the first question will be
- 2:21for James and John is, what is the goal for your podcast?
- 2:26Or like, what, what is what is for freedom mean as a podcast?
- 2:31Okay, I will start that off and then James, I'll pass it over to
- 2:34you. But thank you guys for having us
- 2:36on. We're brothers in Christ and
- 2:39also sort of Brothers in the RFP Network.
- 2:41And so it's good to get together.
- 2:43Have been spending some time with these guys, but we are the
- 2:46Four Freedoms. Cast we started, I started the
- 2:49podcast in June of 2020 and with sort of a goal I guess I give
- 2:57them my story on what was known as what is the preacher preacher
- 3:01boys podcast and something that was sort of bugging me for a
- 3:05while and I did that but it didn't go away that bug was
- 3:09still there and I talked to a lot of people who had gone
- 3:13through fundamentalism and left. And just sort of, you know, you
- 3:18get that feeling where you've been taught something, then you
- 3:20feel lied to and, you know, you just started sort of questioning
- 3:24everything. And you see some people just
- 3:26leave church all together and God has been gracious to me to
- 3:30have a mentor. Somebody that just directed me
- 3:32into sound Theology, and, and that type of thing.
- 3:35And so the initial goal was to have something out there.
- 3:40They threw up a net, if you will for people doing that.
- 3:44Going through that transition of saying, like, Yes that's wrong
- 3:48but the Bible is still relevant in the Bible.
- 3:51Still there and I'm trying to biblical counseling.
- 3:54So is James and overtime. James came in with me, he
- 3:58actually helped me get it started to begin with but James
- 4:01came with me on the microphone and we've transitioned a podcast
- 4:04over time. So our goal is really to because
- 4:07we don't feel like we're the only ones speaking into the
- 4:09realm of theology. Yeah.
- 4:11And there's better ones doing that and I think that you guys
- 4:14would qualify as once that are doing that better than we are.
- 4:17And and so we wanted to do something as far as like dealing
- 4:20with life issues dealing with just the stuff.
- 4:24How theology is not just for this, it's also can be applied
- 4:31to the life issues. Yeah.
- 4:33And so bringing that sort of counseling principles, those
- 4:36types of things are bringing the Bible as it rests on everyday
- 4:39life. James, what do you think?
- 4:41Yeah. Absolutely and most recently you
- 4:44know me and John we grew up together as children in church
- 4:48and our license him intermingled.
- 4:51I was in his wedding, he wouldn't come to my wedding
- 4:54because he doesn't like me and so we going through this again,
- 4:59I biggest goal is trying to help those who have been hurt by the
- 5:06spiritual abuse and legalism and so that is our, our biggest goal
- 5:09is trying to give all for hoping Milk with a Biblical perspective
- 5:13in everyday life. Yeah, yeah.
- 5:16And Youmans, you mentioned, you were on the preachers boy
- 5:18podcast. And we understand that Eric has
- 5:20deconstructed his faith, correct.
- 5:22And and so instead of deconstructing your faith, what
- 5:25your focus was is you wanted to be grounded in your faith,
- 5:29right? And so how are some ways that,
- 5:33you know, because you have, you have the different pendulum
- 5:35swings, like people leaving the faith, amending the faith, but
- 5:39you still stand on truth. Are you still people who are
- 5:43abused? You want them to have Justice in
- 5:46those things but what was I guess, what was the guiding
- 5:51hand? Not to lead you to
- 5:52deconstruction but two I would say Reformation yeah that's a
- 5:55great question. One word that I have heard
- 5:59recently and I'm like man I love that word.
- 6:01I wish I had to come up with it that that I heard Ginger wollo
- 6:06say on an interview and she is from the Duggars, the famous
- 6:09documentary that's out. Now she She married a guy and
- 6:12they heard and Jeremy have come out.
- 6:15And she just has a book out. And she used this term, and I
- 6:17loved it, because it's not deconstruction, it's
- 6:19disentangling. Yeah, and I thought that really
- 6:23helps it understand. I also understand a little bit
- 6:25of what it really is, but I think that I've thought a lot
- 6:29about that subject to because I was thinking about writing an
- 6:31article for the biblical counseling website and I had a
- 6:36send it to a seminary, Professor had him and got some things.
- 6:39I just never have pulled the trigger, I'm releasing the
- 6:40article. About why the Bible is
- 6:43appropriate to use for Spiritual abuse.
- 6:46Because what happens with spiritual abuse?
- 6:47A lot is that people believe that the Bible is the weapon of
- 6:51that abuse. Yeah, and so therefore the
- 6:54common understanding is that. Well, the last thing you want to
- 6:58do to help somebody with spiritual abuse, has the Bible.
- 7:00Yeah, that's the last thing you want to use and my thinking is
- 7:04my position is more like no, that's what we want to.
- 7:07And so I would say it's rooted. What does John mentioned?
- 7:15Who Christ is? He's the word?
- 7:17Yeah. And I think that it's rooted
- 7:20first of all in Christ but even further than that deeper than
- 7:24that, what we see Christ is the good news of the Gospel.
- 7:27Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:28And that's just a real short answer that James.
- 7:31Did you have anything to add to it?
- 7:34You know, when it comes to deconstruction for me
- 7:36personally, I know John is when a dip his life is in different
- 7:41area of mind. I never really have that big
- 7:43pendulum. Swing mom was just an Awakening
- 7:46to understanding. What was true.
- 7:49What wasn't true? My life?
- 7:50I really wasn't this massive like I'm going left from going
- 7:54right based on what I was told, it was just me learning what I
- 7:59believed and why believed it for me, true for myself.
- 8:03So So for me it was a different area of mine.
- 8:05Mine began with the King James only did, you know, doctor and I
- 8:10guess you could say whatever you want to say on it that was sort
- 8:13of my my Tipping Point because I begin to get in churches where
- 8:17they weren't King James only was the first time ever and I wanted
- 8:20to discover what that meant for me personally and so it was a
- 8:24lot of debates that I watched a lot of digesting.
- 8:28What is real? What is not?
- 8:30What is true? What is just been spouted for
- 8:32the last 30 years? Earth and there's no truth
- 8:35behind it at all. And so, that's where for me,
- 8:37personally, it was just believe understanding what I believed in
- 8:40why I believed it. And so that's that was sort of
- 8:43where I was that. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:45James is very much. The difference between the two
- 8:47of us as James was sort of like, show me what makes sense, okay?
- 8:51That didn't make sense. This makes more sense.
- 8:53I'll go along that way, very much me.
- 8:56I was more like, that's a lie, burn the house down and its
- 9:01really God's grace, that is sort of shape.
- 9:03Eight shaped both of us to I think where we're at right now.
- 9:07Yeah and we've been really on the King James only issue, I
- 9:10mean we've been driving that home for.
- 9:12We have probably five up, we will have five episodes coming
- 9:15on about that. So how how did you disentangle
- 9:19your King James only position and what led you to kind of
- 9:23getting out of that Doctrine? Yeah my mom I personally want
- 9:27for me was studying scripture scripture and the biggest one
- 9:32was the Engelberg debate with James White, the new King James
- 9:37only guys, and then your table. Your Roundtable of your five or
- 9:41six, King James only, your your, wow, I don't know.
- 9:44The guys name is even now, but going back and forth and seeing
- 9:48those some things and then, you know, hearing some of the things
- 9:51I heard my whole life, preached and taught in school and in
- 9:56church and in chapels hearing some of those things brought
- 9:59back up and then them trying to To catch, you know, James White
- 10:05in a and some type of argument and then James White rebuttal in
- 10:10it in a logical fashion. Not in a mean Spirit or anything
- 10:14and then James White trying to ask a question and then one of
- 10:17those guys say in all you're just trying to, you're trying to
- 10:20catch me and you're trying to say something to get me off base
- 10:23and and really seeing them in that in that setting was
- 10:28eye-opening experience for me. So the Ankerberg debate was that
- 10:31was a fantastic tool. For me to be able to go through
- 10:35that and then of course, then after that reading James White's
- 10:38book on the King James only is on, was it was a great asset for
- 10:42me. Going through that, John about
- 10:44you. Mine was a pastor, I was very
- 10:48much. I left the church that I was at
- 10:51very much King James only and was stored a spouting off.
- 10:56Some some King James only as I'm to this pastor and he just asked
- 10:59me a question and I was like, all right this is my chance to
- 11:01give my defense of Why the the manuscript line was corrupt and
- 11:07he just took the same logic and I'm using air quotes here that I
- 11:11was using for King James only as mm and twist it around on me
- 11:15because my logic was the Bible uses Egypt of the manuscripts.
- 11:19Come from the Egyptian, corrupted line.
- 11:21And because of that, you can't trust those because Egypt is a
- 11:26sign of the world, and he just looked at me and he told me
- 11:29later, he said, I don't believe this.
- 11:31But it's along the same logic that you're using which is bad
- 11:35logic. And this what he said, he said
- 11:37you know what else Egypt is. I said what he said using your
- 11:40argument Egypt is also place a preservation.
- 11:44So what do you mean? He said, well God preserved the
- 11:45children of Israel there in Egypt, for 400 years.
- 11:48And where did God send Christ to preserve him from Herod?
- 11:51Oh, they went to Egypt for two years.
- 11:53So couldn't it be that using that same line of thinking that
- 11:56God would preserve manuscripts in Egypt?
- 12:00And I didn't know what to say. And after they say, he tried to
- 12:03explain to me both of those lines of thinking our fault.
- 12:06That are not good logic. Yeah.
- 12:08But now, you come to a decision. And so then I was like, I've got
- 12:10to search this out. Yeah.
- 12:12I didn't know there was an alternative Viewpoint and it was
- 12:15like, oh, none of this makes sense.
- 12:18Yeah, yeah. It sort of came down to it and
- 12:20you think the House of Cards comes tumbling down when you
- 12:22address the King James only position immediately.
- 12:25Yeah, that's what we were noticing since our Sunday here
- 12:28at church. When they Ethan preached.
- 12:30I've just got about 45 messages this morning from young guys
- 12:33that are saying. Hey, I'm still King James
- 12:36preferred. I'm just now looking into this.
- 12:38Do you have any kind of books for me to read anything to look
- 12:41at? And we're able to send them
- 12:42episodes like this James. You already mentioned James
- 12:45White's book but it the card start to fall.
- 12:48When you start to look at the position, it's indefensible so
- 12:51you're the Ankerberg Show was really good.
- 12:52That I probably got me too. I've had Sam gipp, he signed my
- 12:56Bible but Some try to defend himself there.
- 13:01It was just kind of embarrassing.
- 13:04Well, we are, actually we're doing something different with
- 13:06this this episode, we're sort of playing back and forth, so the
- 13:09guys have just asked us a question.
- 13:11So we're going to do the same thing.
- 13:12So it's not technically on my jacking, your pop coming three
- 13:16questions. I don't know if that's fair or
- 13:18not, but that's a 3 question. So we're not technically
- 13:23hijacking. We're just gonna give a little
- 13:25bit of they were gonna play back and forth, back and forth.
- 13:28So, James, go ahead and Ask these guys a question?
- 13:32Yeah, so Tyler Champion all stood.
- 13:34What is the goal or even the meaning of your podcast to
- 13:37starving for truth podcast? What is y'all in go?
- 13:41What are y'all wanting to see happen with what you guys have
- 13:44going on right now? Yeah, so the audience, we're
- 13:46trying to reach are those that have either grown up in an ifv
- 13:50and I have any movement or churches that were theology
- 13:52wasn't strong and as a result of us growing up the hyphy movement
- 13:56which I'm sure you guys can relate to this.
- 13:58We weren't given sound Ecology. We are literally were literally
- 14:02starving for truth. And our desire is to reach, you
- 14:06know, guys, and and ladies that are looking for answers,
- 14:10somewhere to go to, where they can find biblical truth.
- 14:13If you look at our logo, it's a starving sheep.
- 14:15And now, we just believe there's a lot of starving sheep in
- 14:18churches, all over that are looking for truth.
- 14:20Yeah. And I think, you know, it
- 14:23doesn't just involve the ifb movement, there's people in the
- 14:26Southern Baptist convention, they're starving for truth, you
- 14:28know. And so we thought at the
- 14:31beginning it was just going to be a tool for our local church
- 14:34and then we started getting messages from the broader church
- 14:39and then we each week, we have tons of guys and hopefully this
- 14:45is a plug for the new podcast is going to come out.
- 14:47But hopefully our wives are starting a podcast, there's
- 14:49going to be some more ministering to The Souls of the
- 14:52ladies as well. And so, our goal really is to
- 14:55equip the Saints for the working in the ministry via podcast.
- 14:59And then also, So this has really helped us out and
- 15:01pastoral care as well, because if you have an hour of your life
- 15:05to give to somebody, obviously you're going to give it.
- 15:07But when you're busy and you're doing certain things, you can
- 15:10say, hey, here's a podcast, we recorded, and this is just as
- 15:14the subject that you're asking about, listen to that first and
- 15:17then let's set up a counseling session.
- 15:19And in, let's go through what you, what you're struggling with
- 15:21and that's been a great tool. So, I guess our heart behind
- 15:25this is to point people to the truth of scripture.
- 15:28The truth of Christ The gospels are Foundation.
- 15:31We are fundamentalist dimming, we love the scripture, we love
- 15:35old time religion, you know, that that's actually, like, from
- 15:38the Apostle Paul. And so, so that's our heart
- 15:42behind it, and Tyler. I'll pass the Baton.
- 15:45Yeah, I mean, my story probably similar to yours James and that
- 15:49I slowly started these things started shedding but when the
- 15:53first thing like a cage ABO position when I looked at it and
- 15:56I realized that I've been wrong and I am hearing these really
- 15:59Preachers that are focused on the true fundamentals, that the
- 16:04true things that are very important, that deity of Christ,
- 16:07just justification by grace, through faith, it just put a
- 16:11hunger in my heart to learn more once that once that first step
- 16:16was taken. And so that's, you know, we're
- 16:20starving for truth once once we break free from that and even
- 16:23just any Christian should be starving for the truth of God's
- 16:27word and we just want to to help equip net and that area because,
- 16:32you know, in my past there was, I've said this, I think it said
- 16:34this on the recovering fundamental podcast, but in my
- 16:38past that there are question marks in my childhood over my
- 16:40head all the time and you'd get differing answers in the ice be
- 16:45almost like it's it's a it's a it's a hodgepodge of different
- 16:51philosophies, different thinking's and you wouldn't get
- 16:53a straight answer on everything or you get one answer from one
- 16:55guy, different answer from another guy and but once I, once
- 16:58I started digging To God's word and realizing that there's
- 17:01Christians for a long time. They have believed certain
- 17:04truths about God's word and and I have it historical accurate
- 17:08biblical, beliefs concerning Doctrine and all those things.
- 17:12It just it just set a fire in my heart to learn more and that's
- 17:16kind of my background with that. I just add one more thing here.
- 17:19You know, people that are starving that are super hungry,
- 17:22they're hungry and they'll take anything and I think that's one
- 17:25thing we want our podcast, the be, we want it to be truth that
- 17:28were feeding these people. They are hungry.
- 17:30You have the preachers boy podcast, which is filling this
- 17:32void, but what is he giving them?
- 17:34And so we want our podcast to be biblical truth that will help
- 17:37people. Yeah, and I think a good analogy
- 17:39is like, probably everybody's heard of NF, and when he does a
- 17:44rap song, he's always giving the problem, but he's not giving the
- 17:47solution. Yeah, it's the same thing with
- 17:49like the preacher boys podcasts. Like if people abuse people,
- 17:52they deserve justice, we agree here here.
- 17:55Yeah. You know, and but there has to
- 17:57be a solution of that. Wait.
- 17:59That's in the heart of the individual and that's the
- 18:02gospel. Yeah.
- 18:03And so that's our. That's our foundation.
- 18:05And so we want to start there and then we want to build upon
- 18:08the solid foundation of Christ and we want to lay a foundation
- 18:11for the listeners to to have truth that they can stand on you
- 18:15know truth. They can depend on.
- 18:16Yeah absolutely James I sort of think that they answered Austin
- 18:19at least answered the second question which was are people
- 18:23starving for truth? Yeah.
- 18:26They don't live in the show notes, John there.
- 18:42We shoot from the hip. Now we're gonna FaceTime Gia and
- 19:03man. Yeah.
- 19:05Yeah your digital presence is here, you know.
- 19:08Yeah. So but yeah, and I think going
- 19:12to do that. We need to edit this out but I
- 19:14was going to say he looks more like the pride flag right now.
- 19:18We're now we don't need to edit that out.
- 19:27The reason he's so salty is because he's Kind of gay.
- 19:36I'm just playing but our back to number two are people starving
- 19:42for truth. Yes.
- 19:43And he said why do you think they're starving?
- 19:46Well, I think it's because and we be honest here I don't think
- 19:49the Bible is being expanded in a lot of churches.
- 19:53Yeah. And like we were going to be
- 19:55doing a review of Jack Howell sermon, keep your feet out of my
- 19:59seat. Feast.
- 20:00Keep your stinking feet out of my drinking water.
- 20:02And so, like, some things like Jack house was a gifted
- 20:06Communicator. He could rally the crowd, he
- 20:09could rally the troops, but he did not deliver the truth.
- 20:13And so I think a lot of times there are great gifted
- 20:16communicators in the fundamentalist movement that can
- 20:19rally the crowd, rally the troops boast the egos of the
- 20:22listeners, but what they're doing is they're fleecing the
- 20:24flock. And so we don't want to fleece
- 20:27the flock. We want to feed the flock and
- 20:29when it comes to those who are starving, for truth, there are
- 20:32people that reach out each week that have questions in.
- 20:35Oh, that ask these deep theological questions that
- 20:37they've had all their life and then they go to their pasture.
- 20:40And their pasture says, well just trust me or trust my voice
- 20:43or trust what I believe. And so, instead of giving them
- 20:46an answer that they can depend upon, they give them some
- 20:50philosophy or they give them something that they've just
- 20:52regurgitated from all the preachers conferences.
- 20:54They've been too. So yeah, there are people
- 20:57starving for truth. I mean, it's It's all the time.
- 21:00We get messages and we really like to interact with those who
- 21:03are struggling. Yep ours is the back does you
- 21:07know won't go ahead one battle that pick one thing to add on
- 21:11that I've met yesterday with a pastor that goes to our church
- 21:14he's 81 years old. He was in Ministry for 61 years
- 21:18and just befriended him over the last couple of months and
- 21:21gleaning from him. He just retired joined our
- 21:23church, he grew up in our church and I met with him just praying
- 21:27and seeking advice and counsel. With him and he made this
- 21:30statement, he said, I'm so fearful of today's church and he
- 21:35said I don't understand why so many people were and he used the
- 21:39word compromising her going liberal and I knew what he
- 21:41meant. He wasn't meaning, what we would
- 21:43think or what people would classify us as liberal and and
- 21:46going crazy butbut, I made this statement, I said, Henry's his
- 21:50name I said Henry I really believe it's because we've
- 21:53gotten away from preaching and teaching the truth of the Bible.
- 21:56Yeah. And if you're absolutely right,
- 21:58he said we He, as an, as an 81-year old man, he said church,
- 22:03has become something that they check off as a box that I went
- 22:07on Sunday, and I'm good for the week and it is not been any
- 22:10other effect in their life and I and he said, I fully believe
- 22:13that's why the church and Christians as a whole, or not
- 22:17influencing their Community, because they're not getting
- 22:20truth on a daily basis, in their own personal life.
- 22:23And to hear that from 81 year old man who loves Jesus, who
- 22:26sacrificed his entire life serving the church.
- 22:29Church. And he said, I'm at the point
- 22:31now where I don't really care much about me.
- 22:33I care about my kids, my grandkids and my great-grandkids
- 22:36and I fear for the Church of they're going to grow up in.
- 22:39Yeah, that's that's a solid Point especially coming from an
- 22:44older gentleman Faith. Yeah and I'm last night, Austin
- 22:49to commend you my wife. She's you know, she's start, she
- 22:54got a new ESP Bible, she's been taking notes, she's going
- 22:56through a booklet for devotions and she says right now she's
- 23:01she's never had this before, where she's she's been hungry
- 23:03before, but she hasn't been fed and it's not, of course, it's
- 23:08not always the fault of the preacher and all that stuff but
- 23:11now she's personally been digging into God's word getting
- 23:14into understanding it, and, and it's just been such a and she's
- 23:18like, I just really loved Austin's message last night that
- 23:21passage was so great and, and it's just, and I, this is where
- 23:27I'm convicted is like, last night, I could have Ben might
- 23:30have been looking around the auditorium a little bit.
- 23:31Not might not have been painted as much but she's she's just
- 23:35looking at her Bible and being like this Bible is amazing.
- 23:38I can read it, I can digest it, I can understand it and and it's
- 23:42just been awesome to hear that but there's a lot of people that
- 23:45they have that hunger but there it's not being satisfied in
- 23:49their church it's not being cultivated right?
- 23:51They're not looking at their word and being fed.
- 23:53They're looking at a man and hearing his stories hearing his
- 23:55opinions and they're not there's something there that's not
- 23:58happening for them. What's happening is that they're
- 24:01getting junk food all the time, right?
- 24:02You know, they get lazy when you junk food all the time, what
- 24:05happens? You get lazy and fat, right.
- 24:08So I think they're the American church is there.
- 24:11And I think the cure for that is expositional.
- 24:13Preaching. Yeah.
- 24:15Elder ran churches. That has a plurality and not a
- 24:17CEO model. And so, I think our motto is To
- 24:22a thousand Generations. That's our churches motto.
- 24:24And so as Baptist we see, like the now and what's going to
- 24:28happen tomorrow? Errol.
- 24:30But as we cultivate the church in the states, as we cultivate
- 24:33our local churches, it should be something that we see as
- 24:36generational. Yeah.
- 24:37When I'm dead as my church going to still be there and there's
- 24:40they're going to be equipped Min to fill that Pulpit or fill the
- 24:43void of a Christian school or fill the void of whatever.
- 24:46It is, whatever Ministry that you can say, biblical
- 24:48counseling. And so, I think a lot of times
- 24:51we've we've got the Great Commission and we go and we
- 24:55preach the gospel, but we forgot the disciple.
- 24:58And I think that's what I said. Where, where American church,
- 25:01it's good. All right, are we back to us?
- 25:03And we asking you guys another question.
- 25:05All right. Do we need more?
- 25:07Do we need more? Christian podcast will will do
- 25:11will do that right now. Do we need more Kirsten podcast
- 25:15I'm gonna head. Okay.
- 25:16So do we need more Christian podcasts?
- 25:20First of all, I'd say this that understand the times we are to
- 25:24be Discerning of the times. I did some history research when
- 25:29I was starting. Owing to podcast on the
- 25:30fundamentalist movement and if you go back to the 20s, you find
- 25:35that the medium of that day that they got messages out.
- 25:39They got, they spoke into the world was through periodicals
- 25:46what is known and fundamentalist circles as the sort of the Lord,
- 25:50the sort of the Lord was actually at its time, the medium
- 25:54for their day. And, you know, you look at J
- 25:58Frank Norris, he reached A lot of people and he became it
- 26:02became why they didn't have the YouTube or the or the the
- 26:06Facebook social media that spread it was through that
- 26:09periodicals you move a little bit down the line in history and
- 26:13the medium then becomes radio right?
- 26:15Radio preachers became a huge thing.
- 26:19Well, is that really the case? I think, now I think really
- 26:24podcasts is, is one of the mediums to speak into.
- 26:28Yeah. Today.
- 26:29For, for the church. And the question, do we need
- 26:33more Christian podcast? Well, I would ask someone if
- 26:37they were saying that and sort of a critical manner, I'd say,
- 26:40well, do we need more entertainment podcast?
- 26:44Do we need more? I mean, how if you looked at the
- 26:47ratio of Christian podcast and maybe we should even Define
- 26:52Christian. Yeah.
- 26:54And what is speaking? Actual biblical truth out there.
- 26:57I think there's actually a Best using the word starvation of a
- 27:05real good Christian podcast. So yes, very much.
- 27:08So yeah. So what about you James?
- 27:11Yeah, I agree with what John said up there is a life of the
- 27:15Public Square. I like how Michael Nolt is that
- 27:17what is the Public Square right now?
- 27:19And if we don't have a voice in the Public Square, then we are
- 27:24making an influence properly in our community as me and Austin
- 27:29came back. Back from Israel, just a couple
- 27:31of months ago, I often think and try to remember the places where
- 27:35people gathered in those a theaters and he Padrone's and
- 27:39and there were large entertainment, venues where
- 27:41everyone would go to get the news and event and what was
- 27:44going on. We don't have places like that
- 27:47now because our error has changed and we're in technology
- 27:51and social media. And so, if we are going to be
- 27:54good, stewards of what God has given us, and he has given us in
- 27:57an age of social media, and Listen, the age of of internet
- 28:02and accessibility to people. Why would we not use that as a
- 28:05tool to reach people for the sake of the Gospel?
- 28:07Yeah. And if I simply having a podcast
- 28:10where we share the gospel and one person listens to it and one
- 28:13person's life is changed then. Absolutely.
- 28:16I would say make 100 more of them just so that we can see
- 28:19more and more people's lives. Change for the sake of the
- 28:21gospel, and let me add on to the last part of that is one of the
- 28:25essay, I'm going to say problems.
- 28:27One of the problems in our culture right now is a very
- 28:29sound. And by culture we have a very
- 28:31sound like culture. And if you look at all the the
- 28:33Public Square avenues that James is talking about whether it's
- 28:38Tick-Tock I know there's a lot of people trying to have good
- 28:40voices in that but it is. So my new and we need areas
- 28:44where things can be more fleshed out.
- 28:46Yeah because of we just want 30 seconds, 10 seconds 15 seconds.
- 28:51That's just not enough time. That's not that's not how God
- 28:54gave us truth to be compacted that much and podcasts are an
- 29:00Where those things can be flushed out and Yeah like the
- 29:04past four hours hanging out with you, John like what I've
- 29:08inferred is that you're a well-read guy.
- 29:09When you all talk about something on your podcast,
- 29:11you've probably read a couple books about it before you talk
- 29:13about it. And what it what we can do is
- 29:15that we can have a another Avenue where are the pastors of
- 29:19a church can study something, get it to their people and feed
- 29:23their congregation? I don't know about you.
- 29:25James and hang out with you. All I know about you is that I
- 29:27see like a rainbow thing on your screen.
- 29:28So but I assume that it's the same way with you, where you
- 29:32have a, where you have an opportunity to to minister to
- 29:36people. And it's just another just
- 29:39another one of those tools that God's given us where we can
- 29:42study something and get it to our people.
- 29:44Yeah. And I think the great thing
- 29:45about podcasts to is sometimes we don't have enough time to
- 29:49read the 10 books on something in the counseling world and then
- 29:53you bring it up on a podcasting, like we can pick up that podcast
- 29:57for an hour and you've digested it and then you Clean it.
- 30:00And so podcast is a great way to transfer information and I think
- 30:06a lot of times we like, I don't know, I get stuck on the the
- 30:11rails or whatever, the Facebook thing sometimes at night.
- 30:13And I'm like, seeing all these things and basically, it's Kobe
- 30:16Bryant and then boxing videos for me.
- 30:19But unless unless Tyler sends me videos, they're my algorithms
- 30:23really messed up. So so podcasting has helped me
- 30:27out a lot or YouTube, you know, I've watched A lot of James
- 30:30White's debates and in. So the I would say the
- 30:34modern-day Marketplace is social media and we need to be in
- 30:37there. Paul would be here.
- 30:40So Well and and even that point the number one podcast in, you
- 30:47know, I don't know if of the number one overall but but your
- 30:49long form journalism of the rise and fall of Marcy.
- 30:52Oh yeah. Right now, the number one
- 30:53trending documentary on the Internet is China have people.
- 30:57Yeah, people are interested in this long-form drama.
- 31:02This long-form documentary, but they've also got the same edge
- 31:06of give me that 30 seconds. And so we've got to figure out
- 31:09this balance between the two. And we're in a very weird
- 31:13dilemma or very weird culture right now, of how can we gain
- 31:17people's attention for longer than 30 seconds in a way that's
- 31:20meaningful to impact them? With what the truth is?
- 31:23That we have? Yeah.
- 31:25Absolutely. So on that.
- 31:28Let's move to our question, which is number three.
- 31:33Where should people be? Finding the truth fellas?
- 31:38Tyler, you have an open up one so I'm going to throw you under
- 31:41the bus. I probably Rick Warren.
- 31:43Honestly, the unknown author of Hebrews.
- 31:51Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 32:02I mean I think this is one of those kindergarten questions
- 32:04Jesus. Now the Bible and This is and
- 32:09that's where you can begin to shed man where they have put
- 32:13their pharisaic or rules where they hold those in higher esteem
- 32:16than the scriptures. And now you need to get back to
- 32:18the scriptures, get back to the Bible.
- 32:20And of course, what's important, if you're in a solid Church
- 32:23being under the leadership of your elders, your pastors and
- 32:29seeking counsel. So you can go to counsel and, of
- 32:32course, all by the power of the holy spirit, because you can,
- 32:37you can read your I will, and it's in, it's not getting you
- 32:40anywhere. And there's not that hungry,
- 32:42there's not that thirsty or because you need a change of
- 32:45heart of course or you needed some.
- 32:46You need a Revival of your heart.
- 32:49But seeking the truth of course from the scriptures and being
- 32:52under Authority is always ideal. Yeah.
- 32:56And people need solid Biblical truth, you know, growing up in
- 33:00the in the ifb and going off to college, we can ask, you know,
- 33:03why do we believe that and often times or even the answer?
- 33:06Well, because so-and-so told, Add me or my grandma or a grand
- 33:10mal are sweet ladies. But we need a point of Truth
- 33:13where we can say. This is, this is where we are
- 33:15pointing you to, and it's the word.
- 33:17The word is where we get our truth from.
- 33:19It's not just because so-and-so said it, or it's written in a
- 33:22book that someone wrote but where in the Bible, does it say
- 33:24this? And that has to be our
- 33:25foundation? Yeah and I think a lot of times
- 33:28like a lot of our listeners are in fundamentalist churches and
- 33:33not all fundamentalist, churches are bad but if you look at the
- 33:36scripture and we We see this is where Authority comes from.
- 33:40I'm going to read first, Timothy 3 1 through 7, and if the pastor
- 33:45that is in your church, does not fit these qualifications as an
- 33:48elder. You probably should look for a
- 33:51different church or at least have the Church of mohnish him
- 33:54and have him in Repentance. And so there are many wolves
- 33:58that will gain the platform of the pulpit.
- 34:01And, you know, we should submit to the leadership.
- 34:05But if the leadership's tyrannical, the leadership's
- 34:07False their teaching a false gospel, you don't have to submit
- 34:10to that, you actually should probably fight against that in a
- 34:13general way. You know, you don't, you don't
- 34:15come in and just like burn down the church.
- 34:17But, and for the first Timothy 3 says this, the saying is
- 34:20trustworthy. If anyone aspires to the office
- 34:22of overseer his desire, he desires a noble task, therefore,
- 34:26an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one
- 34:29wife, and so when you get into the tax above reproach, he
- 34:32doesn't have scandals out in the community people don't think
- 34:36when I see him. Is he going to rob?
- 34:37Blind. Or is he going to have an affair
- 34:39or, you know, there's just basic qualifications and if that is
- 34:43what your pastor is known for find another Pastor, you know,
- 34:47and so you don't have to submit to the tyrannical leadership.
- 34:50That runs some small churches. And so, you know, husband of one
- 34:54wife, you know, there's there's been a covenant of marriage
- 34:56there that's been honored. Sober-minded, his mind's, not in
- 34:59the gutter all the time or he's not tossed to and fro by every
- 35:03wind of Doctrine self-control. This is a big one.
- 35:06So if your pastor is 600, Pounds.
- 35:08He lacks self-control and therefore he's disqualified in
- 35:10the ministry, you know? So there there's these
- 35:13qualifications. This is where our truth comes
- 35:15from respectable. People have respect for him or
- 35:19some sort of and I'm not saying like a holy reverence, but a
- 35:21reverence for the sky. When he walked into the room,
- 35:23there's respecting people. Then you have hospitable, his
- 35:27house is open to you or he's taking you out or you're
- 35:31visiting with him. There is all these things able
- 35:34to teach if he can't get up and he what did Jared Baker, Say
- 35:37that one time you can preach out of a wet paper bag.
- 35:41You know, he can't preach out of a wet paper bag, then he's not
- 35:44qualified. And so, and most it, I would say
- 35:48all the qualifications of an overseer, Elder are all
- 35:51character traits. And so, if not a drunkard so not
- 35:56not drinking all the time and getting drunk.
- 35:57It doesn't mean if he has a beer, he's in sin.
- 35:59And what it's saying is he's not indulging in drinking or given
- 36:03over to drunken to not violent. That doesn't mean he doesn't, he
- 36:06can't go boxing. I have Jujitsu classes mean he's
- 36:09beating up his neighbor but gentle and not quarrelsome, not
- 36:13always looking for a fight, not a lover of money and so he
- 36:16manages his household. Well, so he's going to lead and
- 36:19disciple his wife as if his wife is role in the house.
- 36:23He's disqualified. You know so there's all this
- 36:25truth that stems from this and when we're finding truth we
- 36:29should sit under pastoral leadership eldership.
- 36:32That looks like this. If it doesn't look like this,
- 36:36they're unqualified for the It's true.
- 36:38And you should one encourage them to repent and if that
- 36:41doesn't work, you should find another church.
- 36:44So that's how it's always been. It's how God established it.
- 36:47And so, we don't need to change the book so we can have somebody
- 36:50we like behind the pulpit, right?
- 36:52And I even think of Jesus prayer and and the Garden in John 17,
- 37:00he says, you know, Bob Woodward here, sanctify.
- 37:02Yeah, theological term. But it if we break it down, it's
- 37:05the process that God changes us. Yeah, Yeah and he said, how did
- 37:08how did he pray? Jesus praying to God.
- 37:12Change them in your truth. Yeah yeah and then he doesn't
- 37:17leave us hanging. We're we're asking you the
- 37:19question. What is what does where do
- 37:21people find the truth? He defines it for us.
- 37:23Yeah. Your word is truth.
- 37:27Yeah. It's it's not hard to figure out
- 37:31and I think that I think that like you were saying, a lot of
- 37:34times we over time. It's been real easy.
- 37:37To regurgitate what some other figurehead has set at a
- 37:43conference to come back and just give that to the people.
- 37:45You write down there, four points there, sermon.
- 37:47And then you just let her rip, and then you go, and you go to
- 37:50another conference and you go gather 20 sermons there.
- 37:53And that's not, that's not healthy for the church and you
- 37:56look in church history. How the word it was hidden from
- 37:58the common people for so long and it was just the priest or
- 38:01you know the Pope that spoke for God.
- 38:03Yeah but we have the word, we have the truth.
- 38:05Not to get back on the King James.
- 38:07Only got retail but it was hidden because they made sure
- 38:13they couldn't understand it right, right?
- 38:16Yeah, yeah. Which if you come back to
- 38:18fundamentalism, Can they understand the King James?
- 38:23And if you tell them, they must stay there.
- 38:26You're in a sense doing the same thing.
- 38:28I've thought that? Yeah, well, and being in the
- 38:31educational system, running a boys home and seeing this state
- 38:35like, so I would, and I don't know, the percentage is, but a
- 38:38high percentage goes to the public school.
- 38:40And the public school is failing, the students.
- 38:42And so reading levels reading comprehension, they're not gonna
- 38:46like when you open up a King James you look at it, you're
- 38:49like, hmm. If you actually, if you Of the
- 38:51reading comprehension of what's coming out of our modern-day
- 38:53public school. You're not going to, you're not
- 38:55kind of comprehended. Even, even me when I read the
- 38:57King James, and I've grown up on it, been weaned on it, there's
- 39:03things. I come across like even Mark
- 39:06Ward the other day talking about one of the false friends.
- 39:08Yeah there's things like that that it's like oh I've been
- 39:11understanding that incorrectly this my whole life.
- 39:14Yeah or as if I just opened up another version of their it just
- 39:18has it. Yeah and it's we Study it, if
- 39:21that's what you use. And you like, well, I still
- 39:22going to stick with my KJV. That's great.
- 39:24But you should definitely watch those videos on false friends.
- 39:27What you should definitely learn how to read it and how to give
- 39:30it to your people in a digestible way?
- 39:32Yeah, yeah. The the hardcore hardcore came
- 39:35because I was one ark or King. James only is hates the, the
- 39:39objection that it's hard to understand.
- 39:41There has been nobody better at proving that the markwardt as
- 39:46yeah. I've actually been really
- 39:47watching his YouTube videos. That's a wealth of knowledge.
- 39:50So, I think the, I think the preachers actually prove it but
- 39:58I honestly don't know where we're at.
- 39:59You guys just ask this. We're back.
- 40:15Found my new name. Found that good grace.
- 40:19Found that healing. In the tears.
- 40:22Fell down my face when I find my beginning has no ending.
