- 0:08Side Studies.
- 0:10Welcome back to the Boroughs of Berea.
- 0:13This is part two of our side study on who wrote the Gospel of John.
- 0:18And this week we don't have Ralph Hicks, we have Cherry Lewis with us.
- 0:22Say hi, Cherry.
- 0:23Hello.
- 0:24Hi, Cherry.
- 0:25We also have Andy Bishop, as always.
- 0:28Hello.
- 0:29Thanks for joining us for this recording here.
- 0:30I'm Rick Welch and we're here at the Giraffe Studio in beautiful Hendersonville, North
- 0:34Carolina.
- 0:35So, as I was talking in our last side study, I had said that the reason why I got interested
- 0:41in doing, the reason why I want to do this podcast was because there were so many preconceived
- 0:46notions that come with becoming a Christian.
- 0:49Did you notice that yourself, like after you were a Christian for a little while, that
- 0:53did you see that there were certain things already in place for you?
- 0:56Yeah, I did.
- 0:57It's kind of like it was just traditional kind of certain things were just the way they
- 1:02were because they were the way they were.
- 1:04Was there anything that stuck out in your head that, you know, when you started going
- 1:07to school, did you learn anything that might be traditional that could be incorrect?
- 1:13Anything come to you like that or were you just moldable and you were just learning?
- 1:18Well, actually, when I was down there, you had mentioned previously in the, was it last
- 1:24time I think maybe about, you know, Jesus being in the grave for three days and how
- 1:29it wasn't possible if he was buried Friday for him to be risen on Sunday, which traditionally,
- 1:38you know, that's what they go by.
- 1:40Sure.
- 1:41But actually the teacher down there did bring out that if you studied it out enough, it
- 1:47was actually Monday.
- 1:49Wednesday.
- 1:50Well, maybe I'm wrong on the day, but I think he did show it was like technically not Sunday.
- 1:58It's been a while, but I did think, I thought he said Monday.
- 2:03As far as the day that he was crucified or the day that he rose?
- 2:06That he rose.
- 2:07Oh.
- 2:08Yeah.
- 2:09So he thought that it was a Monday.
- 2:10Yeah.
- 2:11Okay.
- 2:12So I've never heard that.
- 2:13I've always heard that the high Sabbath for the year, I think that was the year of Jubilee,
- 2:18I think, I can't remember, because it was a high Sabbath, then you could have a Sabbath
- 2:22day on a weekday.
- 2:23It wasn't just a Saturday.
- 2:25Now I'm very ignorant on the way all of that stuff works.
- 2:29I've read it, it confuses me sometimes.
- 2:31I don't even understand how they get their calendar the way they get it, but the Hebrew
- 2:33calendar is based on the moon.
- 2:36And so, and Leviticus 23 tells you when they're going to have the feast, which is Passover
- 2:40and feast of unleavened bread and feast of trumpets and feast of booths.
- 2:43And there's all these feasts and everything that they go by.
- 2:47I've learned that those are all just the type or they're a shadow of things to come, like
- 2:52in regard to Christ.
- 2:53I've learned that much, you know.
- 2:55But the main traditions, the ones that shocked me, like questioning who wrote the gospel
- 3:01of John, like I never, in my early days, I never would have even considered it.
- 3:05But it's just from reading it so much over and over and over.
- 3:08And then suddenly things start to pop out and you're like, wait, what's going on?
- 3:12Like why am I believing this?
- 3:15You know, we quote scriptures out of context all the time, all the time.
- 3:21Have you ever heard somebody say, like it says in the Bible, cleanliness is next to
- 3:25godliness?
- 3:26Yeah.
- 3:27Find that verse.
- 3:29It's not in there.
- 3:30That's interesting.
- 3:31I wonder where that comes from.
- 3:33That was probably a verse that they took, changed into what they wanted it to say and
- 3:37went with it.
- 3:38Yeah.
- 3:39I mean, I think so.
- 3:40I mean, for me, it's like, it doesn't even match the gospel at all.
- 3:44I mean, you're not going to be clean enough.
- 3:47Your righteousness is as filthy rags.
- 3:49Now that is one.
- 3:50Your righteousness is as good as a bloody tampon.
- 3:55That's what the Bible actually says about your righteousness.
- 3:59And so it's like, eh, you know, I don't know.
- 4:03But for me, I just, I love to study.
- 4:06And then when I find something, you know me, I like, I hang on something, I'll see something
- 4:10I'm like, wait, I'm going to hang on to it.
- 4:11I'm going to just pound it out until I figure it out.
- 4:14And this is one of those scenarios that stuck with me for years.
- 4:19That disciple whom Jesus loved, it just kept bothering me because, Andy, if you grow up
- 4:24in a church, if they're like, you know, Rick, the one that Jesus loved, like you wouldn't
- 4:29say that in like a normal, you know, normal cases.
- 4:32Although we all believe that, you know, Jesus loves everyone.
- 4:38He died for everyone.
- 4:39That's the idea.
- 4:41But if you reject him, then what?
- 4:44Then what?
- 4:47Is he lovingly throwing you into hell?
- 4:49Is that what's happening here?
- 4:50That's a good point.
- 4:51I never really thought about that.
- 4:52That particular twist has never occurred to me.
- 4:54Yeah.
- 4:55I mean, is it conditional or is it unconditional?
- 4:57You don't really think of that being Jesus's role.
- 5:00Right.
- 5:01It's just like Jesus blinks out of existence in Old Testament, God appears and throws you
- 5:05in hell.
- 5:06You're right.
- 5:07Right?
- 5:08Like that's kind of the idea.
- 5:09You're just like, oh, he's not.
- 5:10He's not a part of that.
- 5:11Right.
- 5:12You just give him a pass.
- 5:13Until you read in Revelation and you see he's got this white hair and this like eyes like
- 5:17fire and like, you know, he's a sword coming out of his mouth.
- 5:20You know, there's also like this warrior Jesus that you're not used to.
- 5:27You know, most people are used to the, you know, he's soft and he's like a teddy bear.
- 5:33You know, he's just a big lovey guy.
- 5:34Oh yeah.
- 5:35Hippie Jesus is all the...
- 5:37And I like Hippie Jesus too, for the record.
- 5:39That's the guy you want to think you could be like because that seems like if you could
- 5:45be that patient and as loving as that ideal, that's not even the biblical Jesus, let alone
- 5:51with however the real man was.
- 5:53Right.
- 5:54Like, that's the ideal that you feel like it almost seems attainable and it seems like
- 6:00a good way to be.
- 6:01And I, you know, but yeah, that's not even how he is in the Bible.
- 6:05Right.
- 6:06He is very gentle and he's lowly.
- 6:08You know, he's very humble and when he comes on the scene, he does not hang out with, you
- 6:17know, the high society.
- 6:19He could have been with the rich.
- 6:20He could have been with the political.
- 6:22He could have been with any of them, but instead he hung out with fishermen and tax collectors
- 6:28and prostitutes and those that have been demon possessed that he healed and you just, you
- 6:34name it.
- 6:35But he had some, he had some highly influential people that believed in him too.
- 6:40So well, I want to go ahead and get into this and wrap up this Lazarus thing and this is
- 6:43going to take a little bit.
- 6:45We might have to make this a three part side study.
- 6:47I don't know.
- 6:48There was quite a bit of notes there, but in order to prove that Lazarus is the writer
- 6:53of John, you have to do a lot of backstory.
- 6:56You also have to understand you could easily put John the apostle in some of these places.
- 7:00For instance, whenever they go into the upper room for the last supper, Jesus says, you
- 7:05know, I have longed to have this private time with you.
- 7:08And he's talking to the disciples.
- 7:11Lazarus wasn't one of the 12.
- 7:14He wasn't.
- 7:15So if he says, I've longed to be with you privately, then how in the world could it
- 7:19be Lazarus?
- 7:20Therefore it had to be one of the disciples.
- 7:22So then we used to say, well, it's probably John or it could be James, the less one of
- 7:26those, but that wasn't enough to deter me.
- 7:30You know, I suddenly understood that there was some other people that were surrounding
- 7:35that area that I never really thought about, but I used to question.
- 7:39You remember whenever Jesus, whenever the guys were, okay, it's time for the Passover.
- 7:42Where should we, you know, what should we do?
- 7:44What did he tell them?
- 7:45Do you remember what he told them?
- 7:47To go into the city and to look for a man that's holding a water pot and then go to
- 7:53him and then he'll take you inside and lead you to the good man of the house.
- 7:57And then they will show you where we'll have it.
- 8:00There you can prepare it.
- 8:02There's two more people there that are not the disciples.
- 8:05That's the man with the water pot that led them, that, you know, shows them.
- 8:09And then there's the good man of the house who owns the home.
- 8:12Who owns the home?
- 8:14So whenever you read about the man with the water pot, does that intrigue you at all?
- 8:20Did you ever wonder like, what is that all about?
- 8:23I guess probably just from what I have been taught so far, my take would be obviously
- 8:31anybody that's in the Bible is important.
- 8:34But when there's a lack of a name, then it's not necessarily a person so much that's the
- 8:39importance as it is what's actually going on.
- 8:43So I never give thought necessarily to the individual themself as more so that there
- 8:49must be something that I should be seeing in the whole thing, excluding making personification
- 8:57with that individual.
- 8:59Have you ever noticed that we can take a verse of scripture and we can analyze it and analyze
- 9:03it and analyze it?
- 9:04Do you ever analyze the line where it says, and John and Peter prepared the Passover?
- 9:08Have you ever analyzed that or did you just read it as John and Peter prepared the Passover?
- 9:14That's how I read it.
- 9:15Right.
- 9:16Sometimes when we read things, we really delve into the meaning of them and some other things
- 9:20we don't so much.
- 9:23Well, when I read it, I like to look into it deeper and see, is there something more
- 9:29to this?
- 9:30I always feel like, like Ralph said on the last one, the Holy Spirit doesn't waste his
- 9:34breath.
- 9:35If all scripture is God breathed, then is he wasting his breath on some of this or is
- 9:39he not?
- 9:40I mean, this is either the story or it's not.
- 9:45It's almost like I set out to prove that the Bible was false to start with and then I couldn't.
- 9:50Then I started really reading into it, maybe too deep, sometimes too deep, but you guys
- 9:55are going to discover tonight, this is going to get really deep.
- 9:59But I had said on the previous side study that I thought that Lazarus could have been
- 10:04one of John's disciples, John the Baptist's disciples.
- 10:08It could be that early because John was baptizing near Bethany by the Jordan.
- 10:16Later you find out that Lazarus is from Bethany, Mary, Martha, Lazarus, they're all from Bethany.
- 10:23A lot of things happen in Bethany, this two mile location right outside of Jerusalem.
- 10:29But then I found out there's a lot of Bethany's and Bethphage.
- 10:34I couldn't even tell if it was even the same location.
- 10:38So I was like, well, I'm going to have to study that one a little bit further.
- 10:40So I can't really mix those two, although it says that Andrew was one of John's disciples
- 10:47and Andrew goes and tells Peter.
- 10:50So we know that Andrew was a disciple of John the Baptist who moved over into Jesus.
- 10:54So that's unique, but you couldn't really prove that about Lazarus.
- 10:59But there was something that always stuck out to me and I think I found the proof that
- 11:03I'm looking for.
- 11:05So this is a story that we're all very familiar with.
- 11:11It's the rich young ruler.
- 11:13You've already read this, right?
- 11:14I love what we talked about.
- 11:17Okay.
- 11:18Well, before I get into that, because I believe that Lazarus is that rich young ruler because
- 11:23they're in, I think it's Perea, which is not far from Bethany that's described two miles
- 11:28from Jerusalem.
- 11:32But Lazarus, it's such an amazing story.
- 11:38If it's really him, you want to talk about Jesus putting a camel through an eye of a
- 11:45needle.
- 11:46Talk about him putting one through an eye of a needle.
- 11:50But before I get into that, I'm going to wrap up a few things from the last one.
- 11:52So in Mark 16, 14, I asked the question, did John believe with the other disciples?
- 12:02Mark 16, 14.
- 12:03So Jesus says, afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat and abraded
- 12:09them with their unbelief and hardness of heart because they believed not them which had seen
- 12:14him after he was risen.
- 12:18This is with the disciples.
- 12:23Afterward he appeared unto the eleven.
- 12:26Was John the apostle part of the eleven?
- 12:29Do you think so?
- 12:30John the apostle.
- 12:31James and John were part of the twelve disciples.
- 12:35The reason they're calling him the eleven is because Judas is dead.
- 12:38So Peter, James, John, like those three that were really close to him, they were part of
- 12:42the crucial close three, but then also they were part of the twelve disciples.
- 12:46Judas is gone, so he says this to the eleven.
- 12:48Now according to the Gospel of John, Mary Magdalene comes to the tomb first and then
- 12:55she runs and gets Peter and the disciple whom Jesus loved and they're the next ones to arrive.
- 13:01They run up to it.
- 13:02Now the women have been there, but they've run up to it, right?
- 13:05And it says that the disciple of Jesus' love stopped, he kneeled, like he ran to it, he
- 13:10kneeled, he looked inside, then Peter went inside, then the disciple whom Jesus loved
- 13:14went inside.
- 13:15And he saw the napkin and he believed.
- 13:17That's what it says.
- 13:19He was one of the first people to go to the tomb.
- 13:21Okay?
- 13:22Do you remember that?
- 13:23Yeah.
- 13:24Okay.
- 13:25I was just thinking, maybe Ralph said it before, if Lazarus is the one at the tomb with Peter,
- 13:33he's already been risen from the dead.
- 13:38So he's already personally experienced that, so why would he be doubting, I guess?
- 13:45He didn't doubt.
- 13:46But I'm saying like, why did he stop, wait, then go in and then see the napkin and then
- 13:50believe?
- 13:51Great point.
- 13:52Why would he not want to run into a tomb all of a sudden?
- 13:55He'd already been in one.
- 13:57Was he afraid of death?
- 13:58I don't think so.
- 14:00But why did he stop?
- 14:01You think it overwhelmed him?
- 14:03I think it would be fair to say that he was overwhelmed, sure.
- 14:06I think for him to stop, first of all, he went running up to it and then he gets there.
- 14:12So what's the excitement?
- 14:14What's the excitement for this disciple?
- 14:17Jesus is risen.
- 14:18Yeah.
- 14:19Jesus is alive.
- 14:20So if it's Lazarus, Lazarus was risen by Jesus.
- 14:24But if Jesus was murdered and killed, this amazing human being, no matter what you think
- 14:30about him, is dead.
- 14:31Well, it's over unless he can really raise himself, if you think about it.
- 14:36I mean, he did all these amazing things, but he stops, he looks in, he sees the napkin.
- 14:41Remember, I told you that the word was sudarion.
- 14:43Or I don't know if you weren't there in that study, but it's sudarion.
- 14:48It's the napkin.
- 14:49It's only used by two people, Jesus and Lazarus.
- 14:52That's the only time it's mentioned in the scripture.
- 14:54I mean, they all, people use napkins.
- 14:56But if that's the case, the Shroud of Turin, you've heard of the Shroud of Turin, supposedly
- 15:00the thing that covered, it's a fake.
- 15:02The reason it's a fake is because Jesus had a napkin on his head.
- 15:05He didn't have the whole shroud on him.
- 15:07He had a napkin, you know?
- 15:09But anyway, so according to this in Mark 16, it says, after that he appeared.
- 15:15So now when Jesus was risen, this is Mark 16,9, now when Jesus was risen early the first
- 15:22day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
- 15:27And she went and told them that he, that had been with him as they mourned and wept.
- 15:32And they, when they had heard that he was alive and had been seen of her, believed not.
- 15:38But in the book of John, it says that Peter ran up, right?
- 15:42But see, it never said anything about Peter believing, did it?
- 15:45No, I don't think so.
- 15:47So then it says, after that he appeared in another form unto them as they walked and
- 15:53went into the country and they went and told it unto the residue, neither believed they
- 15:59them.
- 16:00Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meet and upbraided them with their
- 16:05unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after
- 16:10he was risen.
- 16:11So Jesus himself says, he upbraids them for their disbelief.
- 16:16You don't believe, you didn't believe.
- 16:19But according to John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, who was at the tomb looking in the
- 16:25tomb and saw the napkin, believed.
- 16:29That's enough proof for me.
- 16:31That's all I need to say it wasn't John the apostle.
- 16:34That's all of it.
- 16:35It can't be any of the eleven.
- 16:37It's a separate disciple.
- 16:38It's another disciple.
- 16:39It's somebody else.
- 16:40I have some more for you.
- 16:43In this, I guess you could argue the point.
- 16:45You could kind of play the game, I guess, with this one.
- 16:48But if you remember whenever they're in the boat after when Jesus is resurrected and Peter
- 16:55says I go a fishing, you know, and they all go with him.
- 17:00I don't know if I did this in the last study, but I'm just going to say this really quick.
- 17:04So it says there were together Simon Peter and Thomas called Didymus and Nathaniel of
- 17:09Cana and Galilee and the sons of Zebedee and two other of his disciples.
- 17:15This is John 21 verse one through.
- 17:19So it says and Nathaniel of Cana and Galilee and the sons of Zebedee.
- 17:25Who's that?
- 17:26James and John.
- 17:28James and John are the sons of Zebedee.
- 17:30So you got Zebedee who's her father and the Salome who was their mother.
- 17:34But James and John, they were called the sons of thunder or Bionergis or Bioneges.
- 17:40I can't even say the word.
- 17:42Sounds like a movie.
- 17:44James and John, the sons of thunder.
- 17:47It would be a comedy.
- 17:49This would be a time for Ralph to start saying it was a NASCAR.
- 17:53Okay, vaguely NASCAR.
- 17:56All right.
- 17:57Yeah.
- 17:58Hi man, he's part of the sons of thunder.
- 18:00Does he drive a Ford or a Dodge?
- 18:04So if the author puts in the sons of Zebedee and then later says the disciple whom Jesus
- 18:11loved, I guess you could kind of, because they say, well, he was there, whatever.
- 18:17I disagree.
- 18:18He calls out the sons of Zebedee.
- 18:20Separate.
- 18:21Separately and other disciples.
- 18:25And so I'd said that whenever he and Peter were walking, and then Jesus tells Peter,
- 18:31this is how you're going to die.
- 18:33And then Peter turns and looks at the disciple whom Jesus loved and said, what about him?
- 18:38Why was he looking at John?
- 18:39So I put in, in my study, I started trying to figure out why they thought that it was
- 18:45John because that question seems like there's some indignation in Peter if you look at it
- 18:51from that perspective.
- 18:53Now there's some jealousy going on.
- 18:55Almost like, okay, well, I have to die because I'm following you.
- 18:57So what about this guy?
- 18:58And, you know, Ralph had said that's just his humanity.
- 19:02That's just what humanity does.
- 19:03Well, I looked into it and sure enough in Matthew 2020, Salome, the mother of James
- 19:09and John comes to Jesus and says, I want you to put my son's one on each side of you when
- 19:13you were in your throne room in the kingdom.
- 19:17And Jesus says, you don't know what you're asking.
- 19:19You know, it's not mine to give.
- 19:20It's the father's to give.
- 19:21And then it says that the disciples had indignation.
- 19:24You can go read it in Matthew chapter 20, that they had this indignation towards them.
- 19:28And Jesus explains it further.
- 19:30But it's not, it's not hard to imagine that there could have been a little bit of something,
- 19:37but I don't think so because Peter, James and John went everywhere together.
- 19:43Every time Jesus did something unique, like the transfiguration on top of the mountain,
- 19:46Peter, James and John went, you know, they were, whenever he was praying, you know, that
- 19:52thought of whenever he's praying that Peter, James and John were there close to him.
- 19:57And so he was praying.
- 19:59It's the disciple whom Jesus loved.
- 20:02So John is such a unique gospel and it's very different from the other three synoptics.
- 20:10It's very different.
- 20:11He shows seven major miracles, none of which are in the other gospels.
- 20:17The other gospels don't mention some of the things that he's mentioning.
- 20:22But when I was saying earlier about the rich young ruler, there is something unique about
- 20:26him.
- 20:27Okay.
- 20:28And I'm going to bring it out.
- 20:29Let's look at the possibility of Lazarus not only being the disciple whom Jesus loved,
- 20:35but also being the rich young ruler.
- 20:37And I think we can put this into a narrative that will, that you could believe.
- 20:44So in Mark chapter 10, starting with verse 17, this is where we hear about this rich
- 20:51young ruler.
- 20:52And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running.
- 20:59Just as soon as I read that, I was like, wait, he came running.
- 21:04This is the only gospel that says that by the way, and kneeled.
- 21:09So I think about the disciple whom Jesus loved that was running to the tomb and he stooped
- 21:13down to look into it.
- 21:15Listen, this is just words, but it's kind of what I thought of.
- 21:19And asked him, good master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
- 21:25And Jesus said unto him, why call us thou me good?
- 21:30There is none good, but one that is God.
- 21:34Let's stop right there for a second.
- 21:36You ever thought about what Jesus just said?
- 21:39Yes.
- 21:40Did you question it?
- 21:41Yes.
- 21:42What was your question?
- 21:44I didn't understand it because I thought, well, you're Jesus, you're God in the flesh.
- 21:48You are good.
- 21:50Yeah.
- 21:51That kind of threw me off.
- 21:52I was like, he recognizes you for who you are.
- 21:57But then of course, Jesus kind of says, the only one good is God.
- 22:02So I don't know.
- 22:03I'm like, well, is it truly a question to the man or is it a statement that Jesus is
- 22:08saying you need to recognize God for God?
- 22:14Yeah.
- 22:15Even though you're referencing me, I guess, Jesus in him in the flesh.
- 22:21That threw me off.
- 22:23Of course, I'm not a believer.
- 22:25I think it's widely known if anybody listens.
- 22:28But it was never, the way I was raised with religion, it was never presented to me that
- 22:33Jesus himself was ineffable.
- 22:35So there would be no conflict of interest there for me.
- 22:39Jesus was, I don't know how, nobody ever put it this way, but Jesus was half God, right?
- 22:45Until the point he died.
- 22:46So it was like, there was never presented to me a reading in which Jesus himself was
- 22:52perfect and ineffable.
- 22:54That was never presented that way to me.
- 22:56So there was no conflict there because he would have been this other thing that was
- 23:04halfway but still human and fallible in that way.
- 23:08I think somebody said that in the other thing, but it's just funny because that Jesus is
- 23:13perfect reading, never heard that in my life.
- 23:18That's literally new to me as an adult, that interpretation of Jesus.
- 23:23Well, if he, see, and it's good that you bring that out because there's a lot of people that
- 23:31don't know that.
- 23:32Jesus was sinless.
- 23:35The only reason why the sacrifice of his life for our sin worked was because he was the
- 23:42spotless lamb without blemish, without spot, right?
- 23:47He did not sin.
- 23:48He never sinned in his life.
- 23:51Now before I'm like, really?
- 23:54When you were a little kid, like, you know.
- 23:56Is it one of those things like Jesus didn't sin because Jesus didn't sin or is it like
- 24:00Jesus didn't sin because by definition anything he does is not sin?
- 24:05Because it seems like the latter to me because he struck a child dead, right?
- 24:09No.
- 24:10Okay, there's a biblical story somewhere that I might be-
- 24:13That's a pseudo-pigryphal writing you're reading from, but I've heard it.
- 24:16Okay, okay.
- 24:17So-
- 24:18He also killed a bird and brought a bird back to life in that same book.
- 24:21Yeah.
- 24:22It seems to me that some of these things are, it is not sin because Jesus did it.
- 24:28You know what I mean?
- 24:29And that seems to be the line that gets walked sometimes.
- 24:32Almost like he sinned, but it was inexcusable because he was Jesus kind of thing?
- 24:39Well, it's sort of like Jesus would never do it.
- 24:43I think the inference is more something like Jesus would never do anything without good
- 24:47reason.
- 24:48Therefore, if Jesus did it, you know there was good reason.
- 24:51And if there was good reason and he was Jesus doing it, it was not a sin.
- 24:54That was sort of the suggestion.
- 24:56Sure.
- 24:57God had already written out the moral law prior to Jesus walking the earth.
- 25:02I think if Jesus had come before the law, then I think everything you just said probably
- 25:07would stand true because there would be nothing to reference from.
- 25:11But because God had already laid this law out, not just the Ten Commandments, but Deuteronomy,
- 25:16the second law and how, and you had Leviticus, which was all of these laws for the priesthood.
- 25:21And then you've got, what are they, 627 different laws or something that has been written to
- 25:26it.
- 25:27Jesus, when he arrived, had to fulfill all of them.
- 25:32First of all, he couldn't commit sin.
- 25:33And then he had to fulfill all of the things about himself in order to do that.
- 25:39So in order to fulfill the prophecy.
- 25:43Truthfully when God wrote his law, the only one that could fulfill it was himself.
- 25:49Man could not do it.
- 25:51I remember working with a man named Ray Murphy.
- 25:53He used to say, you cannot legislate morality.
- 25:56You can try, but you cannot legislate it.
- 25:59They will fail.
- 26:01But that's what laws are.
- 26:02I mean, trying to legislate some form of morality, you know, but that one line struck me.
- 26:08It struck me too.
- 26:09When he says, why do you call me good?
- 26:11He's asking him that question.
- 26:13Why do you call me good?
- 26:14There's nothing good but God.
- 26:16Are you saying that I'm God?
- 26:18Right.
- 26:19That's, you know, I kind of thought that.
- 26:20And then I'm like, well, or is he, so to me, it seemed like it wasn't really so much as
- 26:26the question as it was a statement without saying it.
- 26:31Does that make sense?
- 26:32Yes.
- 26:33I thought he was rebuking him.
- 26:34Don't call me good.
- 26:35Only God's good.
- 26:36That's not, to me, I don't think that's what he's saying at all.
- 26:39I think he's saying, hey, do you know who you're talking to?
- 26:44Why are you saying that to me?
- 26:45Do you run around going around saying people are good?
- 26:48There's nothing good but God.
- 26:50But do you think that I'm God?
- 26:52Kind of like when Pilate asked him.
- 26:56What is truth?
- 26:57Are you a king?
- 26:58Oh yeah.
- 26:59He says, thou sayest I'm a king.
- 27:04Almost like a word twister kind of thing.
- 27:07Like are you admitting to me that you think this or you know, so like the rich young ruler
- 27:15saying to him, are you admitting to me that you know who I am?
- 27:18Yeah.
- 27:19Well, if you think about what Pilate's saying is, are you a king?
- 27:23Because that's a direct threat.
- 27:25And he said, you say that I'm a king.
- 27:31My kingdom is not of this world.
- 27:34So he's like, you guys are giving me this title.
- 27:37I'm telling you, my kingdom's not even from here, which is not a threat.
- 27:41That's why he washed his hands and he's like, there's nothing wrong with this guy.
- 27:46If anything, he probably thought he was a crackpot.
- 27:48But he says to him, I came for the truth.
- 27:53And Pilate's like, what is truth?
- 27:55I love that line because it's like, Jesus says, I am the way.
- 27:59The truth.
- 28:00And the life.
- 28:01He wouldn't know truth if it was standing two feet in front of his face.
- 28:05I've said that many times.
- 28:07So we get back to the rich young ruler and he's mistakenly called Jesus good or he wasn't
- 28:12mistaken.
- 28:14And so he says, you know the commandments, right?
- 28:16Let's read them.
- 28:17Let's read what he says to him.
- 28:18He says, you know the commandments.
- 28:21Do not commit adultery.
- 28:22Do not kill.
- 28:23Do not steal.
- 28:24Do not bear false witness.
- 28:25Defraud not.
- 28:26Honor thy father and mother.
- 28:27And he answered and said unto him, master, all these have I observed for my youth.
- 28:31Now I used to think that was sort of, oh really?
- 28:36Mr. You didn't sin.
- 28:37But you know, it's possible.
- 28:38Listen, Paul said that he was pretty strong in his faith and he did not falter very much.
- 28:45Very, very, very few sins in Paul's life.
- 28:49That's the way he saw himself.
- 28:52I think it would be safe to say that this guy's probably kept all of these things.
- 28:55Well, that's what they were taught.
- 28:57Yeah.
- 28:58Follow these.
- 28:59Do these.
- 29:00That's right.
- 29:01These are the things that you have to do.
- 29:02I think it's possible.
- 29:03And he says, master, all these have I observed for my youth.
- 29:06But then listen to this.
- 29:08Then Jesus beholding him loved him.
- 29:11He called him master too.
- 29:13He did.
- 29:14He loved him and said unto him, one thing thou lackest, go thy way, sell whatsoever
- 29:21thou hast and give to the poor and thou shalt have treasure in heaven and come, take up
- 29:26the cross and follow me.
- 29:28And he was sad at that saying and went away grieved for he had great possessions.
- 29:33And Jesus looked round about and saith unto his disciples, how hardly shall they that
- 29:37have riches enter into the kingdom of God.
- 29:39And the disciples were astonished at his words.
- 29:43The disciples were astonished at him saying that.
- 29:46But Jesus answered again and saith unto them, children, how hard is it for them that trust
- 29:50in riches to enter into the kingdom of God?
- 29:53It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter
- 29:58into the kingdom of God.
- 30:00And they were astonished out of measure.
- 30:03Like super astonished, right?
- 30:05A saying among themselves, who then can be saved?
- 30:11And Jesus looking upon them, saith with men it is impossible, but not with God.
- 30:17For with God, all things are possible.
- 30:19And Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all and have followed thee.
- 30:22And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath left house
- 30:26or brethren or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my sake and
- 30:32the gospels, but he shall receive in a hundredfold now and this time houses and brethren and
- 30:36sisters and mothers and children and lands with persecutions and in the world to come
- 30:42eternal life.
- 30:44But many that are first shall be last and the last first.
- 30:48So did you notice that the disciples were astonished at that about the rich part?
- 30:52Had you read that before or noticed that before?
- 30:55I had, but I didn't give it so much thought, I guess, to that they were astonished.
- 31:02Yeah.
- 31:03I mean, but it puts you, if you stop and you read what it says, it puts you in their culture.
- 31:10They were astonished that Jesus was saying that man isn't going to go to heaven.
- 31:16He's not going to make it.
- 31:18And they're like, what?
- 31:19He does throw a loophole in though, but through the power of God.
- 31:23So he makes it not impossible.
- 31:26It is.
- 31:27Right.
- 31:28Yeah.
- 31:29It is one of my more liked phrases in the Bible though.
- 31:31About the impossible?
- 31:32Well, no, no, no.
- 31:34It's about the value of wealth in the afterlife.
- 31:38Yeah.
- 31:39Yeah.
- 31:40I mean, I think that we're learning about the culture that they saw these rich rulers,
- 31:48these political people that were in power as the ones that were most likely going to
- 31:52make it when it came to God and they were just sort of a forgotten thing.
- 31:56They were unimportant.
- 32:00They didn't follow the rules well enough like those guys did.
- 32:04Those guys were, they're the ones that are going to go to heaven.
- 32:08They're the ones that are going to be close to God.
- 32:09This is fascinating to me because I'm used to that through the lens of Catholicism, right?
- 32:15That was the problem that created the Reformation and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
- 32:19And I didn't realize kind of Judaism that sprang that far back really.
- 32:25Yeah.
- 32:26I mean, and it does.
- 32:28And so-
- 32:29So you're saying the disciples look at this rich man ruler and are astonished that they're
- 32:38looking upon him, what he has, what he's done.
- 32:42And they're thinking for sure this young man would be one that would make it in reference
- 32:47to looking to themselves.
- 32:50That they weren't, I guess, to the statute of this man or financial standing wealth.
- 32:58Yeah.
- 32:59I mean, I would say that in their culture, that's how they saw it.
- 33:03If he truly was the guy that didn't commit any of those sins and he was very wealthy
- 33:08and he was a ruler-
- 33:11So he couldn't get in, no one could get in.
- 33:13Yeah.
- 33:14It's like, if that guy's not going to make it, then what about Cussin Peter that's out
- 33:17there naked fishing?
- 33:19How else he going to get up in there?
- 33:21Right.
- 33:22Yeah.
- 33:23It's like Larry the Cable guy versus Pat Robertson.
- 33:27Which one's going to get in?
- 33:28I tell you what, buddy.
- 33:31I think the answer is clearly Larry the Cable guy.
- 33:35Dan Whitley, whatever his name is.
- 33:37Is that his name?
- 33:38Yeah, something like that.
- 33:39I always wondered.
- 33:40Yeah, that just makes me think.
- 33:41I guess, you know-
- 33:42Yeah, he's from Rhode Island.
- 33:43Really?
- 33:44Oh yeah, that's a character.
- 33:45Well, I know it's a character.
- 33:46And a good one.
- 33:47He's very good.
- 33:48I mean, I was fooled.
- 33:49And a good one.
- 33:50Yeah, no.
- 33:51As low as that comedy is, it's always been funny to me.
- 33:53But yeah, he's like from Rhode, Connecticut.
- 33:54It's one of them.
- 33:55I think it's Dan Whitley's real name.
- 33:57Wow.
- 33:58He's really funny.
- 33:59I love when he talks about going to get some of them edible eating britches.
- 34:03He said, I got me about six pair of them blueberry.
- 34:07And he said, I ate like four of them on the way home.
- 34:11He said, you better be glad they wasn't biscuits and gravy flavored.
- 34:15Oh God.
- 34:16Oh man.
- 34:17Edible eating britches.
- 34:18I guess, you know what I'm talking about.
- 34:26People looking at one another with assumption that so-and-so must be, gonna be in heaven.
- 34:36Of course.
- 34:37They have to be because they do everything right.
- 34:39Yeah.
- 34:40I mean, I do nothing right.
- 34:41Look at it today.
- 34:42Look at the ones that are wearing the suits and the ties and the nice dress shoes and
- 34:48they're prim and proper.
- 34:50Let's look at the women that are in the fanciest dresses and they all, you know, I don't judge
- 34:54them because I know a lot of people that dress like that, that I love dearly and they are
- 34:58true believers.
- 34:59Right.
- 35:00But there's also some that aren't quite there and it's about that look, you know, and then
- 35:05on the outside people look at them and they're like, man, they must be really something because
- 35:08they're, you know, they go to church and they do all this stuff.
- 35:11It's easy to think people you don't know are guiltless kind of, especially if they dress
- 35:16well, you know what I mean?
- 35:17You don't see them often.
- 35:18You only interact with them on a surface level.
- 35:21It's very easy to think that that person is nice all the time just because the one time
- 35:26you see them a month, they're able to put a smile on, but you don't know.
- 35:32They might be great people.
- 35:33I'm not saying, you know what I mean?
- 35:34I'm not saying they're not.
- 35:35I'm just saying you have no idea.
- 35:37Sure.
- 35:38I mean, I think that for them to be astonished, it's not too far of a stretch.
- 35:43We even have it in our time.
- 35:44We do it ourselves, you know, but Jesus really calls it out.
- 35:50You know, it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of an eagle than for a rich man to
- 35:55enter into the kingdom of heaven.
- 35:57And that was a shocking saying to them, you know, and Peter made it very clear, look,
- 36:02we've left everything, you know, and he says, oh, not without reward.
- 36:06You haven't, but this young ruler didn't hear any of that.
- 36:10He already ran off at this point or had, you know, left, sadly had left, but I don't think
- 36:16that he was as far away from Christ as you think.
- 36:18I think that he had, he suddenly, he came with the right question.
- 36:23What must I do to get an eternal life?
- 36:25This is what I want.
- 36:27This is that one thing.
- 36:28This is what I actually want to live forever.
- 36:31And he says, look, the only way you're going to live forever is to get rid of all of the
- 36:34other temporary things in your life and then come and pick up your cross.
- 36:38He says that you got to come with me.
- 36:40I'm going to a cross.
- 36:42And he's like, oh man, I've got all this stuff, you know, I've got all this stuff.
- 36:47I'm not giving up this stuff.
- 36:48You ever thought?
- 36:49Well, I don't know.
- 36:50I was just thinking, I don't know when I, when I got saved, it didn't have anything to
- 36:54do with living eternally, I guess.
- 36:57It was never, I never really thought much about that part.
- 37:00Not at all really.
- 37:02Right.
- 37:03But I mean, obviously he did because he stated it.
- 37:05Yeah.
- 37:06That he wanted eternal life.
- 37:07What did you think about?
- 37:08Yeah, I just thought just a shambled up mess.
- 37:13Yeah.
- 37:14Just broken.
- 37:15Uh huh.
- 37:16Like I can remember standing and, uh, like I had a conversation with the Lord in my brother-in-law's
- 37:24driveway.
- 37:25You know, he had passed away.
- 37:27Right.
- 37:28And, um, I just said, I was like, I've tried everything.
- 37:32That's what I said.
- 37:33I've tried everything.
- 37:34Right.
- 37:35And I have nothing left to try.
- 37:39I don't have, I'm out of ideas.
- 37:41I'm done.
- 37:42I'm broken.
- 37:43That's it.
- 37:44Sure.
- 37:45I have nowhere else to turn to.
- 37:47I never once thought about hell and I never thought about eternal life.
- 37:52Yeah.
- 37:53I didn't get saved out of fear of hell either.
- 37:56In fact, I don't like the way that they preach that.
- 37:59It irritates me.
- 38:00Trying to scare somebody into heaven is a terrible idea.
- 38:05Thinking that you're saving someone's life from the pit, like they're being dangled over
- 38:09hell is a, of course it's going to work.
- 38:13It's going to be an emotional thing where people are afraid, but what they don't understand
- 38:17is that they're driving the sin of, of actually self preserving them.
- 38:22You know, like the sin of self preservation.
- 38:25I don't want to go to hell so bad that I'll do whatever.
- 38:27You know, it's, that's not the reason to be saved.
- 38:29I just kind of thought, think of it like, if you're lost, you don't believe, I mean,
- 38:37you hear about Jesus, you know, but you don't have a personal relationship with him.
- 38:42You know, if you don't really think much about him, why are you going to give much thought
- 38:46about hell or anything else really?
- 38:49Sure.
- 38:50Most people don't even have an understanding of what hell is anyway.
- 38:52They think, well, I'm going to go party down there.
- 38:54Yeah.
- 38:55I mean, that's whatever, whatever about all that.
- 38:58For me that, you know, what's the enticing part of salvation?
- 39:01Well, first of all, I don't know what it is that you're looking for.
- 39:05I have no clue.
- 39:06Right.
- 39:07I can tell you of someone that radically changed me.
- 39:12Right.
- 39:13That's it.
- 39:14And I can't do anything further from that.
- 39:17I can tell you about him and I can say, listen, there's something inside you just like the
- 39:23rest of us that's broken.
- 39:25Right.
- 39:26We're not necessarily trying to save you from hell or get you into heaven.
- 39:31We're trying to get Christ in you.
- 39:33If Christ is in you, then you have the hope of glory, whatever that is.
- 39:37Right.
- 39:38Right.
- 39:39So what's the good news?
- 39:40Behold, the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
- 39:42The good news.
- 39:43What's good?
- 39:44The lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.
- 39:46What's the good news?
- 39:48Resurrection?
- 39:49You won't die.
- 39:50I mean, sometimes I'm like, man, I just want to die.
- 39:53I'm not being suicidal.
- 39:54I'm just tired.
- 39:55I'm exhausted, man.
- 39:56You ever feel that way?
- 39:57I'm over it.
- 39:58Like, I'm not, I'm not suicidal, but I'm just, I'm tired.
- 40:01Today's a good day.
- 40:04I'm over it down here.
- 40:05Yeah, totally.
- 40:06I was listening to a podcast once and they had a friend, a well-known comedian, Brody
- 40:12Stevens that killed himself.
- 40:14And this one dude, his reaction to, it was like, one guy was like, he was like 50 and
- 40:19the other guy was like, man, that's a long time to be exhausted.
- 40:22That's right.
- 40:23And it's just, that's just the way he said that just stuck with me.
- 40:27I was like, oh, that's it, isn't it?
- 40:29Yeah.
- 40:30I mean, sadly, I think of someone personally I know like that.
- 40:35Yeah.
- 40:36I mean, that's a long time to be exhausted.
- 40:37It is.
- 40:38And it, yeah, and it's, it's, that's dark, but it, you understand what he meant.
- 40:42Yeah.
- 40:43Yeah.
- 40:44Yeah.
- 40:45I've had those moments myself, you know, where I'm just like, it's not that I'm at the end
- 40:47of my rope.
- 40:48I'm just terribly depressed.
- 40:50I'm just like, eh, you know, this is, I'm really tired.
- 40:54Oh yeah.
- 40:55That's, I'm not even that.
- 40:56I'm just like, some days I'm like, God, is this, this seems like a lot of work.
- 40:59I don't even know what I'm getting out of it.
- 41:02Yeah.
- 41:03And it's like facing down, like my company, like sometimes I just want to jump off a bridge,
- 41:08you know, cause it's like so many problems all the time.
- 41:11And at the end of it, when all of this rat race is done, there's probably going to be
- 41:15a cheese at the end of the maze.
- 41:17You know?
- 41:18Or it's rotten.
- 41:19Darn it.
- 41:20I was late.
- 41:21Limburger.
- 41:22I didn't like Limburger.
- 41:23You know?
- 41:24Yeah.
- 41:25Anyway.
- 41:26So Peter, whenever you told Jesus after Jesus went through all this about, you know, the
- 41:36riches and what you can do, Peter said, you know, but hey, we, we first look all.
- 41:42But you know, I remembered that when, when Jesus came and asked them, you know, did you
- 41:47catch anything when he first met Peter?
- 41:49Did you catch anything?
- 41:50Peter's like, no, we've toiled all night.
- 41:52He's like, well, cast the nets on the other side, but we've been out all night.
- 41:55Like we know what we're doing.
- 41:57It's like cast it over.
- 41:58There's the cast on the other side and they have this miraculous catch of fishes.
- 42:01Right?
- 42:02And then Peter's like, go away from me, Lord.
- 42:04I'm a sinful man.
- 42:05Like he just saw something amazing.
- 42:08Well, if you are a fisherman, okay.
- 42:13And Jesus comes and says, how you been doing on your business tonight?
- 42:18How'd last night go for your catch?
- 42:19And he's like, man, man, I ain't even got enough to feed my family.
- 42:23Much less to earn a living.
- 42:26And he says, well, cast on the other side.
- 42:28And suddenly you get a big injection of capital in your business.
- 42:32It's like, can you imagine Andy, if you got a phone call from Lady Gaga and she was like,
- 42:38dude, I've, I've heard so much about giraffe studio.
- 42:41I have to record at giraffe studio.
- 42:44You know, I have no idea how I'd react to that disbelief.
- 42:48I'd say, I would venture to say that your rate per hour would go up.
- 42:52Oh yeah.
- 42:53But if you think about it, like, for a small fee, you know, sure.
- 43:00You can rent the whole studio for two weeks, you know, but when that, when something that
- 43:04amazing happens and it changes your life, you know, it really does.
- 43:08It puts life in perspective, you know, just for a second.
- 43:12When something amazing like that happens to you, you're like, wow, I know it's so silly
- 43:15to hear, you know, Stillwater said 65,000 views on YouTube during COVID.
- 43:22And I got so many thumbs downs, which that tells me people were watching it.
- 43:27That's what Andy was like, that's a good thing.
- 43:29You know, like they don't like it.
- 43:31That means they watch the whole thing.
- 43:32What did they say?
- 43:33The, the opposite of, the opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy.
- 43:38Yeah, that's right.
- 43:39I knew a guy who said he was an apathiest.
- 43:42It didn't, it wasn't that he didn't believe in God.
- 43:44He just really didn't care.
- 43:47Yeah.
- 43:48Brutal.
- 43:50Just brutal.
- 43:52So you know, Peter got that big injection into it.
- 43:54You know, suddenly he's like, oh wow, this is amazing.
- 43:56Why wouldn't you go with this guy?
- 43:58I mean, think about it.
- 44:00Right.
- 44:01He understood himself as a simple man, like, Hey, why are you doing this good for somebody
- 44:04like me?
- 44:05Yeah.
- 44:06But he did the rich young ruler.
- 44:08He told me, he was like, Oh, you got to get rid of everything you have.
- 44:10If you're going to follow me, the other guys, he gave them everything and then said, come
- 44:13with me.
- 44:14Do you get it?
- 44:15Do you see the difference?
- 44:17It's not that they like, we like to teach that they forsook all like, Oh, they just
- 44:21left their job and forsook all.
- 44:22Yeah.
- 44:23Matthew did the tax collector.
- 44:25He certainly did.
- 44:26He took a big risk, but he was hated by the entire nation because he was a sellout for
- 44:32Rome.
- 44:33He was hated.
- 44:34He had nothing better going for him.
- 44:36Right.
- 44:37Right.
- 44:38And then these other fishermen, they get this big injection of capital, they're going.
- 44:41And then it's almost like we think that he just picked a bunch of losers and then turn
- 44:45him into things.
- 44:46And these were men from all walks of life that came and followed him.
- 44:52But every one of them had a lesson to be learned.
- 44:54And it was usually the antithesis of their nature that they had to learn.
- 44:59Like Judas with the money bag.
- 45:01Yeah.
- 45:02You know, like, why would you give the thief the money bag?
- 45:04The same reason why you would give the read the name rock because he becomes that, you
- 45:08know, when you meet Jesus, you change.
- 45:11Yes.
- 45:12Okay.
- 45:13So that in mind when you meet the rich young ruler, because he went away sad.
- 45:19Okay.
- 45:21But he's the only other person in scripture that it says Jesus loved.
- 45:27In John 11, it says Jesus loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.
- 45:31And I said in the last study that Lazarus is the only named man prior to the Pentecost
- 45:36where it says that Jesus loved him.
- 45:38Okay.
- 45:39Period.
- 45:40That, just because it said that, that's what stuck out in my head.
- 45:44Because when I got to the disciple whom Jesus loved, I just started seeing this love, love,
- 45:48love.
- 45:49Like it started following it around.
- 45:51So suddenly I was like, well, wait a minute.
- 45:53So could Lazarus have been rich?
- 45:56Well, let's think about what his sister did.
- 45:59Mary goes in with this ointment or spike nerd is what it's called.
- 46:04It was a very expensive ointment and she breaks it and she pours it on his head and she whips
- 46:10it, she weeps and she wipes off his feet.
- 46:13Jesus says, or the disciple Judas actually says, what a waste.
- 46:19It says that it was worth a year's wages, a year's wages.
- 46:24And I've never, you know, I barely give Jesus $400, you know, like a hundred dollars, like
- 46:29a year's wages in one fell swoop.
- 46:34Let's just say that they had some money there too.
- 46:37Okay.
- 46:38So this was Lazarus, Mary, Martha.
- 46:41So I think it's safe to say that Lazarus comes from a wealthy family.
- 46:47You don't give away a year's wages.
- 46:48And in my opinion, she does it twice because I believe that she is the same person in Luke
- 46:54chapter seven that's in the Northern region near Capernaum and Nain.
- 47:00Whenever that one woman goes into Simon the Pharisee's house and she walks in and she
- 47:06breaks the alabaster jar and puts it on Jesus and then starts wiping his feet with her tears.
- 47:14And Simon the Pharisee says, if he knew what kind of woman this was, he would not let her
- 47:20touch him.
- 47:21Go ahead.
- 47:22Gotcha.
- 47:23Yeah.
- 47:24But if you were to read it, not paying attention to where, location wise.
- 47:31You'd think it was the same.
- 47:32You would think it was the same story.
- 47:33Yeah, it's not.
- 47:35I thought it was for the longest time and I couldn't, it used to irritate me because
- 47:40all of the other accounts are in Bethany, but this one is up in Capernaum.
- 47:44It's the Northern region.
- 47:46One also says Simon's house.
- 47:48The other says Mary, Martha.
- 47:50Well they are in Simon's house, Simon the leper.
- 47:55So in the first one, it's Simon the Pharisee.
- 47:59And then Jesus is invited into his house.
- 48:03This is up in the Northern part of Israel.
- 48:05So he gets invited in and then this woman comes in and then he gives them the parable
- 48:08of the two debtors.
- 48:09Have you ever heard that parable of the two debtors?
- 48:12I don't think maybe if I heard it, I would remember.
- 48:16Basic thought.
- 48:17If one man owes you a million dollars and another man owes you 50 and I grant forgiveness
- 48:24to both of them, which one do you think would love me the most?
- 48:27Oh, well that's interesting just to be, because my brain is like, this is a riddle.
- 48:34Looking at it backwards, I want to say the guy who owed 50 bucks because it depends
- 48:39on your income, right?
- 48:41That $50 could be significantly more meaningful to the right person.
- 48:45You could definitely.
- 48:46I can see where your brain would go there.
- 48:48But my brain was like, it's a trick.
- 48:49The answer is a million dollars because it's more.
- 48:53The one who's been forgiven more is the one that would be more thankful.
- 48:56And I think when that woman who is a sinner is in there crying and wiping his feet and
- 49:01he says, he looks at the Pharisee and he's like, listen, if somebody owes me a million
- 49:07dollars or somebody owes me 50 and I forgive them both, who's going to love me more?
- 49:11That was easy for him to understand.
- 49:12Oh, that woman's the sinner.
- 49:13But what he didn't realize is that Simon was the one that really owes them more.
- 49:19He just doesn't know it.
- 49:20That's the backward part of the story.
- 49:23No, I never heard that one.
- 49:25No?
- 49:26Yeah.
- 49:27And that's found I think in Luke chapter seven.
- 49:30So with what happened there, I think it's the same woman early on in her life where
- 49:36she's being forgiven before Mary ends up at his feet later on in Luke chapter 10, because
- 49:45then he goes to Martha's house and then Mary is at his feet and Martha gets all, you know,
- 49:51flustered.
- 49:52You see me up in here working?
- 49:53I'm a church lady up in here working.
- 49:55You need to get up in here.
- 49:56You need to help me.
- 50:00So I think it's the same woman and I also think it's the same Simon.
- 50:07And here's why, because anytime you meet Jesus, when I met Jesus, I was a different person
- 50:12than I am today.
- 50:14And after so much time with him, I developed into who I am.
- 50:20And I think it's safe to say that Mary, I think that Lazarus' sister Mary is Mary of
- 50:27Magdalene or Mary Magdalene.
- 50:30I wondered.
- 50:31I think they are.
- 50:32It's hard to prove it, but it's hard.
- 50:34In my opinion, it's like, that's the same woman.
- 50:38The woman that came in, that's how Simon would have said if he knew what kind of woman she
- 50:43was because Mary Magdalene was a sinner.
- 50:47And a lot of times they mistake that and they say that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute because
- 50:51he called her a sinner.
- 50:53Mary Magdalene was demon possessed by seven demons.
- 50:57And so you don't know what her sins were, but Jesus forgave her of her sin.
- 51:02In the very next chapter, it says that Mary Magdalene followed along with him and the
- 51:07other women and gave him of her means.
- 51:12It seems to me like Mary is the one that leads Jesus to the household of Martha and Lazarus
- 51:17from up North.
- 51:20And if you follow Jesus, his patterns, he goes into Jerusalem, he goes back out and
- 51:25he goes into Jerusalem, he goes back out.
- 51:26Well, Bethany is two miles from there.
- 51:28Bethany is within close proximity of Jerusalem.
- 51:32It's almost like everybody is gathering and gathering and gathering and then finally gets
- 51:36to this place right before he gets to Jerusalem.
- 51:39And then he raises Lazarus from the dead.
- 51:43Everybody's being led there.
- 51:44Now in chapter 12 of John, Simon the leper has a dinner in his home.
- 51:49But guess what?
- 51:50This is what blows my mind.
- 51:52In the gospel of John, it says Judas, Simon's son.
- 51:59Yes.
- 52:00I was going to actually ask you that.
- 52:02Just a few minutes I was like, is that Judas's dad?
- 52:07Yes, it is.
- 52:08I think I asked someone that one time and they kind of looked at me like I had two heads.
- 52:12People try to separate these characters.
- 52:14Why do they do that?
- 52:15It's in the narrative.
- 52:16And they're like, well, this guy has been studying for 40 years and he said that it
- 52:20wasn't.
- 52:21Horse malarkey, read it yourself.
- 52:24It's right there.
- 52:25I did.
- 52:26I actually thought that.
- 52:27If it's in all the other accounts, in my opinion, Simon the Pharisee was in the Northern region.
- 52:33Simon the Pharisee encountered Jesus.
- 52:36After he met with Jesus, Simon the Pharisee got leprosy.
- 52:42Simon the Pharisee was one of the 10.
- 52:46That came back to thank him.
- 52:47Nope.
- 52:48Is that what you're talking about?
- 52:49I think he was a Samaritan.
- 52:54But I think he could be one of the 10.
- 52:56I think he could have been, but didn't come back and thank him.
- 52:59I don't know.
- 53:00However, the fact is Simon the leper had a dinner in his home.
- 53:07It didn't say Simon the leper was a Samaritan, but it did say that Judas Iscariot, Simon's
- 53:12son was angry when Mary used that.
- 53:17And from that point, it said Satan entered his heart at that moment.
- 53:21This is when Judas realizes that everything that he signed up for is off.
- 53:26Something's wrong here.
- 53:27I thought I was going to be among the superpower, but instead, you really want to know when
- 53:36Judas got upset, when Jesus put on a towel and wiped the feet of his disciples, it was
- 53:42at that moment for him that he went and talked to the chief priests.
- 53:49That's the moment.
- 53:50It was debasing.
- 53:51If you think about it, didn't he get mad when the girl did it to Jesus?
- 53:57But it really wasn't about debasing herself.
- 53:59It was about that money.
- 54:00But when it came to Jesus, he suddenly realized, wait a minute, this guy's a joke.
- 54:05He's not going to be a Messiah.
- 54:08What is this guy?
- 54:09Do you see?
- 54:10I feel like all of these characters that feel like they're far apart are actually much closer
- 54:17than you realize.
- 54:18I think that this is a small circle of people, but because the books are 2000 years old,
- 54:24it's hard to know.
- 54:25It's hard to know just how close they were.
- 54:29We're going to wrap up this one right here.
- 54:32One thing that I really want to point out is that whenever in Luke chapter 10, now it
- 54:38came to pass as they went that he entered into a certain village and a certain woman
- 54:41named Martha received him into her house.
- 54:45That it wasn't Lazarus' house, so Lazarus didn't live there.
- 54:49She had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet and heard his word.
- 54:53But Martha was cumbered about much serving and came to him and said, Lord, does thou
- 54:57not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone?
- 55:00Bid her therefore that she help me.
- 55:02And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about
- 55:06many things, but one thing is needful, Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not
- 55:11be taken away from her.
- 55:13Mary has chosen the good part.
- 55:15If you remember in the other gospels, whenever the woman that was wiping his feet, he says
- 55:20forever, wherever this gospel is preached, she will be memorialized for preparing me
- 55:28for my burial.
- 55:29But it's only in the book of John you find out that it's Mary, Lazarus' sister.
- 55:34That was that person.
- 55:36Did you know that?
- 55:37Well, you're taught they're all the same stories, just in different gospels.
- 55:43So you assume.
- 55:44Yeah, it's Mary for sure, because John says, you know, in the gospel of John, it is Mary.
- 55:51So I guess, you know, it's almost like you just read through them and you just, like
- 55:56if you've read most of the time, you know, when someone, when you first get saved, someone
- 56:01will say, start reading in the book of John.
- 56:04Yeah, that's the worst book to start on.
- 56:07Right.
- 56:08Which is not the book that I actually started in, but anyway.
- 56:10Mark should be your first, personally, I think.
- 56:12I got my, I still have my little orange folder from Sammy Lewis.
- 56:16Oh, do you really?
- 56:19But I think if you read John and you read that first, you just, they all kind of flood
- 56:27together.
- 56:28Once you just read, you just go from one to the next to the next and you just, you don't
- 56:32pay attention to specifics.
- 56:34Yeah.
- 56:35I always thought Mark would be the best one to start with because it says the beginning
- 56:38of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- 56:40I think to me that's the first book, the beginning of the gospel.
- 56:43It's like, oh, that's the first one, not Matthew.
- 56:46Matthew wasn't first.
- 56:48Mark was.
- 56:49I think, I think it was Mark, then Matthew, then Luke, then John.
- 56:53I think that's how they came out in time.
- 56:55Just by the way that I read them, it's almost like Mark, Matthew, Luke, John.
- 57:00I could be wrong, but that's just how it feels when I read them.
- 57:03But I think that if, let's break this down really.
- 57:09We're going to wrap this up really quick, but this is how I sort of developed it and
- 57:13I'm going to say it really fast.
- 57:14I saw Lazarus as the rich young ruler.
- 57:17I saw him encountering Jesus and learning that in order to have eternal life, he had
- 57:21to give up all of his things.
- 57:23I also learned that Jesus said that it's almost impossible for a rich man to enter in.
- 57:26It's easier for a camel to go through than an eye of a needle.
- 57:29But whatever is impossible with man is possible with God.
- 57:33That's the lesson.
- 57:35So then you take that man and let's leave with him for a little bit because we're not
- 57:38following.
- 57:39You don't know what happens to him, but let's just go back home to Bethany.
- 57:42Let's just go back home to Mary and Martha, right?
- 57:44At this point, Martha's already met him and so has Mary.
- 57:48He went running after him to ask him a question.
- 57:52So Mary's sitting at his feet.
- 57:55Martha's serving him.
- 57:56What must I do to get eternal life?
- 57:58To me, it seems like that was an interesting question.
- 58:01Have you ever tried to introduce Jesus to someone in your family before?
- 58:04Look, it's frustrating.
- 58:06It's hard to get a person that you know to become a believer or to get into it.
- 58:12By the way, I stopped.
- 58:14I gave up that a long time ago.
- 58:15Now I'm just like, Lord, is this the guy today?
- 58:19Is this the one?
- 58:21Because I'll share it.
- 58:23If that's what you want me to do, is this the one?
- 58:25That would make sense for why he would call him master.
- 58:28Why else would someone you just randomly don't even know walk up to somebody who's obviously
- 58:33of no high class of any kind, nobody that's in any type of official role and ask that
- 58:42person, call a master and ask them how you're supposed to receive eternal life.
- 58:47That would be almost like just seeing some Joe Blow on the street and be like, hey, I
- 58:50got a question for you.
- 58:51So he's heard of him before.
- 58:53He's had to have.
- 58:54Of course, whether it was through other like Pharisees or other rulers or through his family,
- 58:58but he's heard there's something amazing about this man.
- 59:01Well, I think it would be safe to say that his sister, if she was in fact, Mary of Magdala
- 59:07or Magdalena, then she was healed of her seven demons and she came back and she was a different
- 59:13person.
- 59:14Well, look at the maniac of Godair.
- 59:16Yes.
- 59:17If you had a sister like that and all of a sudden she's dressed, clothed, speaking right,
- 59:26you have been in a personal relationship with this sister, no things that other people's
- 59:30not going to know and all of a sudden 360 and she's normal.
- 59:34Do you know who she's talking about, Andy?
- 59:36The maniac of Godair?
- 59:37No, I do not.
- 59:38Oh, what a beautiful story.
- 59:40What an amazing story.
- 59:42Jesus is out on, he just calms the storm in the middle of the Sea of Galilee and the next
- 59:48day and by the way, he's around with all these crowds and he's like, I have to go across
- 59:52the lake.
- 59:54Not that he was getting away.
- 59:55He said, I must go.
- 59:56I must go.
- 59:57Because he knew he was there.
- 59:58He did and he got over there and there was a man that was naked that was in the tombs.
- 1:00:03They tried to chain him up there because he was whack.
- 1:00:05He was crazy.
- 1:00:07This big, hairy, crazy, whacked out dude.
- 1:00:10Biggest, probably schizophrenic person you could ever.
- 1:00:15Like barking and biting and they tried to chain him up and they said they put these
- 1:00:19heavy fetters on him and he breaks free of them and he chewed on, bit himself and stuff.
- 1:00:26Crazy guy.
- 1:00:27Jesus comes up to him and he says to them, the man looks at him and he was like, go away
- 1:00:33from me, you son of God.
- 1:00:36And he was like, who are you?
- 1:00:39What is your name?
- 1:00:40So Jesus asked the guy, what's your name?
- 1:00:42And he was like, my name is Legion.
- 1:00:46That's where that comes from.
- 1:00:47It doesn't, he doesn't, I think I thought they said something along the lines, what
- 1:00:52do we have to do with thee or something like that?
- 1:00:55What do we have to do with thee?
- 1:00:56Have you come to put us into the abyss?
- 1:00:57And he's like, what is your name?
- 1:00:58My name is Legion because we are many.
- 1:01:02And he was like, what are you going to do?
- 1:01:05And he's like, then the guy's like, there's some swine over there.
- 1:01:09Let us go into the swine.
- 1:01:11And so Jesus cast the demons into the swine and then the swine go down into the lake and
- 1:01:16drown themselves.
- 1:01:17It's like, it's such a wild story.
- 1:01:21Imagine living at home with a sibling with that type of mental disorder.
- 1:01:26And all of a sudden she walks back in and she's normal and you say, what happened?
- 1:01:33And she's like, he did.
- 1:01:35He happened.
- 1:01:39My neighbors literally have an adult son that's similarly afflicted.
- 1:01:46You'll see him out there sometimes.
- 1:01:47He doesn't pay anybody any attention, but it's mostly because he just doesn't seem to
- 1:01:51notice you're there.
- 1:01:53He's similarly afflicted though.
- 1:01:55I've often wondered if some of these mental illnesses were demonic, but at the same time,
- 1:02:01like I said before, I don't know.
- 1:02:03Like I don't know.
- 1:02:05It's kind of an odd thing.
- 1:02:06It feels like this ancient story to me and it's like, yeah, I get it.
- 1:02:11But if I believe it so much, then I have to believe that demons existed.
- 1:02:15For me, that's one of the hard ones for me to believe.
- 1:02:18I have a hard time with angels and demons for some reason.
- 1:02:22But I'll share a story one day of the time that I actually entertained an angel unaware.
- 1:02:30There's no other explanation.
- 1:02:32I have no other explanation because of the timing and because of how soon he was not
- 1:02:40there.
- 1:02:41It was the craziest thing, but you'll have to wait until next time.
- 1:02:46So here, let's wrap this up.
- 1:02:47So you've got this rich young ruler.
- 1:02:50He's starting to hear about, you know, there's Jesus guys who comes up and he talks to him
- 1:02:53and then he ends up going back home and he's, what am I going to do or whatever.
- 1:02:59Now let's fast forward a little bit and Jesus starts telling the story about the rich man
- 1:03:03in Lazarus.
- 1:03:06Was it a parable or was it a true story?
- 1:03:08And I said it wasn't a parable.
- 1:03:09I don't think it was a parable.
- 1:03:10I think it was a true story, but I also think it was prophetic and it was interesting because
- 1:03:14the rich man in Lazarus, Andy, I found something so cool, man.
- 1:03:19This is the coolest thing.
- 1:03:22Okay.
- 1:03:23Whatever he answers, his idea of cool and my idea of cool is very different.
- 1:03:29I was trying to be cool.
- 1:03:33Like these birth control glasses that I'm wearing.
- 1:03:35Oh boy.
- 1:03:37Guaranteed to never get it.
- 1:03:40So where was I?
- 1:03:42What was so cool?
- 1:03:43Oh, I don't know.
- 1:03:44The rich man in Lazarus.
- 1:03:45Yeah, the rich man in Lazarus.
- 1:03:46So he says that whenever that Lazarus was laid at the gate of the rich man who fared
- 1:03:52sumptuously every day, and then it says that he had sores on him and everything and that
- 1:03:59he died.
- 1:04:00And then also that the rich man died.
- 1:04:02And so Lazarus was carried up to Abraham's bosom.
- 1:04:04By the way, the disciple whom Jesus loved rested on Jesus' bosom.
- 1:04:08And then also you get the rich man who was in hell and he lifts up his eyes and he looks
- 1:04:13and he was like, please Abraham, tell Lazarus to go back because I have five brethren.
- 1:04:21And then I started doing some research, man.
- 1:04:24Caiaphas, the high priest at the time when Jesus was there, Caiaphas was the son-in-law
- 1:04:31of the former high priest, Annas.
- 1:04:35Annas had five sons and they would have been his brethren.
- 1:04:42They were all priests.
- 1:04:44And the coolest thing is the one right in the middle, you got two, then one, then two
- 1:04:49right in the middle is Theophilus.
- 1:04:53And I was like, what is that?
- 1:04:55Why does that strike something?
- 1:04:57In the book of Luke and in the book of Acts, Luke is writing to a man by the name of Theophilus.
- 1:05:04He was writing to the chief priest.
- 1:05:06They were real people.
- 1:05:09I don't know if I can prove this or not.
- 1:05:12I don't know if I can prove this or not, but I think it might actually be a parable.
- 1:05:21It may not be a true story or prophetic.
- 1:05:24It might actually be that Jesus knew who Caiaphas was and who the brethren were.
- 1:05:29And he also knew the name of the man that he was going to raise from the dead because
- 1:05:32the end of it, he says, if you don't believe Moses and the prophets, you won't even believe
- 1:05:36the testimony of a man raised from the dead because they didn't.
- 1:05:40And Caiaphas wanted to kill Lazarus.
- 1:05:43Remember?
- 1:05:44Yes.
- 1:05:45Caiaphas wanted to kill him.
- 1:05:48And Lazarus knew who he was.
- 1:05:51In my opinion, Lazarus is the disciple whom Jesus loved.
- 1:05:54But look at this.
- 1:05:55So this rich man, okay, he ends up becoming destitute because he gets rid of everything.
- 1:06:01Let's say that the rich young ruler decided to get rid of everything, right?
- 1:06:05And then he does.
- 1:06:06He gets rid of everything.
- 1:06:08And then he gets sick.
- 1:06:12And during this whole time, Jesus has heard about this guy.
- 1:06:15Yeah.
- 1:06:16Lazarus, he's not.
- 1:06:18He got rid of all of his stuff.
- 1:06:21He's going to follow you.
- 1:06:23It said Jesus loved him.
- 1:06:24He felt compassion, but he loved this man.
- 1:06:27Something happened to this man when he left.
- 1:06:29He obviously got rid of everything.
- 1:06:31In my opinion, this is just opinion and it's all speculative.
- 1:06:34But when I read a letter, I want to know who wrote it to me.
- 1:06:38Yeah.
- 1:06:39I do.
- 1:06:40Let's say you get a letter from Andy.
- 1:06:44Do you know Andy's wife's name?
- 1:06:46No.
- 1:06:47Okay.
- 1:06:48Neither do I.
- 1:06:49No, it's Kristin.
- 1:06:50So if you got a letter from Kristin and she was describing all kinds of things and then
- 1:06:56said, and then Andy was working in his studio all night, blah, blah, blah, you would be
- 1:07:01able to put two and two together and be like, I think that might be his wife that wrote
- 1:07:04me.
- 1:07:05I don't really know her, but at the end it said Kristin.
- 1:07:06So I believe it's Kristin.
- 1:07:09To me, the body of a letter, what you're reading in a letter, it's important to know who wrote
- 1:07:14it.
- 1:07:15It doesn't have to be necessarily if you're learning something.
- 1:07:17If I read the Gettysburg address and didn't know it was from Lincoln, it's still interesting.
- 1:07:23It's interesting.
- 1:07:24That's what I'm saying.
- 1:07:25I would still be like, oh, okay.
- 1:07:26You know, four score.
- 1:07:27Tell her just interested in it.
- 1:07:28I don't know who it's from, so whatever.
- 1:07:32It's like on Fish Call One, it was like, she is so stupid.
- 1:07:35She thought the Gettysburg address is where Lincoln lived.
- 1:07:42And then her daughter's name is Portia.
- 1:07:44Why did he name her after a car?
- 1:07:48That's a good movie, Fish Call One.
- 1:07:51So Lazarus dies.
- 1:07:54Jesus brings him back to life and he becomes a celebrity.
- 1:07:58And then the chief priests want to kill him and everything.
- 1:08:01But I'm going to end it here.
- 1:08:06If it's not Lazarus, to you, the listener, to you, Cherry Lewis, to you, Andy Bishop,
- 1:08:12Ralph Hicks, if you're listening, if you don't believe it's Lazarus, then you are just not
- 1:08:17listening to me.
- 1:08:20Actually, I would go as far as to say that if you've put forth all of your facts that
- 1:08:27you have dug up and we choose to believe that it's not Lazarus, we can base that on our
- 1:08:34own choice of truth being right in front of us, not being able to see it, or being like
- 1:08:42others who have been taught and taught and taught and refusing to see it because it has
- 1:08:48to be this, because that's what it says.
- 1:08:50Sure, absolutely.
- 1:08:51And I can definitely do the same thing.
- 1:08:53I certainly could because I have driven myself mad with this over the last five years, not
- 1:08:57just this in particular, but with all the things that I've studied, it's easy to miss
- 1:09:02the forest for the trees.
- 1:09:03It really is.
- 1:09:05And I'm stretching with the rich young ruler.
- 1:09:06I just say, I'm really stretching.
- 1:09:08And I'm stretching with Mary Magdalene being the sister of Lazarus.
- 1:09:10And I'm stretching with Simon the Pharisee being Simon the leper and also being the father
- 1:09:14of Judas.
- 1:09:15Those are fun theories though.
- 1:09:18That's exactly right.
- 1:09:19I see this beautiful picture of God working with man and doing it in a fashion that it
- 1:09:30could be absolutely detrimental.
- 1:09:32They could die, or they do die.
- 1:09:35Well, you're not the only one that does that.
- 1:09:38Like I told you, that one conference I went to, she said, you have a woman who has an
- 1:09:48issue with blood for 12 years.
- 1:09:50There's a 12 year old daughter.
- 1:09:53And then she went into, of course, you have an issue of blood, you're unclean, can't be
- 1:09:59around anybody, you can't do this.
- 1:10:00Imagine being 12 years of that.
- 1:10:02At what point in time would your husband possibly, or you one, decide it's best for you to leave
- 1:10:07the home because it is then becoming an issue for everyone else involved.
- 1:10:13And she suggested that they happen to be at the same place seeking Jesus, her, for the
- 1:10:21healing of her issue of blood, him, because his daughter was sick.
- 1:10:25And really that was his wife who stopped him.
- 1:10:29And that's why he didn't lose it when she stopped him because it was his wife.
- 1:10:36And then he went on and healed the daughter.
- 1:10:38And it says that he took Jairus and his wife up, even though before she wasn't mentioned.
- 1:10:45I mean, that's a viable thought.
- 1:10:48I mean, I don't see anything wrong with that.
- 1:10:50I never studied it out.
- 1:10:53I wouldn't much rather somebody like that talk to me than somebody like Kenneth and
- 1:10:58Gloria Copeland and saying, we're going to get $300 million in this ministry this year.
- 1:11:04I'll be playing that in next week's episode where during COVID, he said, God told him
- 1:11:10that he's going to make $300 million with this ministry.
- 1:11:14Garbage.
- 1:11:15I'm so tired of these prosperity preachers.
- 1:11:17It drives me crazy.
- 1:11:19So anyway, we'll join that.
- 1:11:22We'll do that next time.
- 1:11:23Thanks for-
- 1:11:24I look forward to that one.
- 1:11:25Yeah, I'll play that.
- 1:11:26I like playing those where they fall from grace.
- 1:11:28Kenneth Copeland hasn't fallen from grace yet, but one can just, oh, I can taste it.
- 1:11:32I want to see him collapse.
- 1:11:34I can't stand it.
- 1:11:35Him and Joel Osteen both.
- 1:11:38I can't stand it.
- 1:11:39Sherry did a point and wink at Rick when he mentioned Joel Osteen.
- 1:11:47Yeah.
- 1:11:48Joel Osteen.
- 1:11:49Well, anyway, thanks Sherry for being here.
- 1:11:52Andy, as always.
- 1:11:53Thank you.
- 1:11:54I really appreciate it.
- 1:11:55Guys, join us next week.
- 1:11:57We'll have Billy and Ralph and Sherry and Andy back for finally touching on the resurrection.
- 1:12:02So thanks for listening to the Burrows of Berea.
- 1:12:04We'll talk to you guys next time.
- 1:12:10The idiom, what I was talking about earlier about the three days and three nights, I had
- 1:12:15said it in the last podcast that if it was an exact 72 hour, then if Jesus was buried
- 1:12:23at 3 PM on a Friday or died at 3 PM on a Friday and then was buried, say, prior to 6 PM, that
- 1:12:30best it was 36 hours in the grave, that was half the time that he said it would be because
- 1:12:35he uses the three days and three nights saying.
- 1:12:39It makes you think, okay, it has to be that long.
- 1:12:41So it wasn't three days and three nights.
- 1:12:42So was he not telling the truth or whatever?
- 1:12:44But no, I discovered something that three days and three nights is used in the Old Testament.
- 1:12:48You can find it.
- 1:12:49It's in scripture and it's an idiom.
- 1:12:51It's like saying better late than never or bite the bullet.
- 1:12:54So would that be the same truth for Jonah?
- 1:12:58I don't know.
- 1:12:59I mean, he said that he was three days and three nights so possibly.
- 1:13:02Maybe Jonah was in the belly of the big fish for.
- 1:13:05I'm sure it felt like forever.
- 1:13:0636 hours.
- 1:13:07I also believe that Jonah died in the whale and most people don't believe that.
- 1:13:11I believe that Jonah actually died because of the language that he uses.
- 1:13:16And then when he was spit up onto the beach, he was resurrected.
- 1:13:20To me, that's the sign.
- 1:13:21The sign, it wasn't just the resurrection.
- 1:13:26He said an evil and a wicked adulterous generation sought after a sign.
- 1:13:32Whatever the sign really of Jonah is that he went and he preached to Nineveh and they
- 1:13:37repented.
- 1:13:38That's the sign.
- 1:13:40The group that was with Jesus, they had no intention of repenting.
- 1:13:44They were going to murder him.
- 1:13:45That was the end of that.
