- 3:04Doctor Good morning, How are you? Good morning? Thanks for having me
- 3:07again, Thank you for being here. Let's get right to it. There's
- 3:09a lot of talk of the news about some Medicaid legislations and decisions that are
- 3:15being made. One of the group's makings Noise is the group that you are
- 3:17with, West Virginia's for Affordable Healthcare. You're the executive director of that group,
- 3:23and I was reading from your press release here and feel free to jump
- 3:27in at any time. Your group is urging West Virginia's congressional delegation to vote
- 3:32no on a Republican proposal that would your group's wards take Medicaid coverage away from
- 3:38the people who do not meet the new work reporting requirements. Now, I
- 3:44hope I got all that right if it didn't correct me. What is the
- 3:46major issue here, doctor, Well, there's a couple issues that we're looking
- 3:51at. First of all, let's talk about the debt limit. The proposal
- 3:55to really harm West Virginia families is wrapped up in the debt limit debate,
- 4:03as you, as you and your listeners are probably aware, it's been in
- 4:08the news a lot lately. We've got a month to a couple of months,
- 4:13I guess to figure out this debt limit thing before we default as a
- 4:18nation. UM, but rocked up in that we're seeing things that really don't
- 4:24belong in the debt limit debate. Specifically of concern to my organization is UM
- 4:30this backdoor attempt to add work requirements to the medicaid program, and I would
- 4:39say, like a misguided attempt at at cutting our spending. And I mean,
- 4:46and I'm trying to take all this in and I mean this on the
- 4:48service and hear me out here, there would be some including myself, that
- 4:54that seemed that there's nothing wrong in asking that people that are able to work
- 5:00for benefits go ahead and fight me on that. Okay, First of all,
- 5:03I'll I would love two days. I would say that, first of
- 5:09all, most people on Medicaid who can work actually already do work. So
- 5:15in West Virginia that's over fifty percent. And those that don't tend to have
- 5:20other responsibilities like such as a caretaker to young people or elderly family members,
- 5:28they could have health conditions, etc. So most people actually do work.
- 5:32This is and I'll push back a little bit more because Medicaid is a health
- 5:38insurance program and it's disingenuous to tie it to work in the way that we're
- 5:46trying to at the congressional level. You know, Medicaid is an health insurance
- 5:51program for low income Americans. It is not a work program. It's not
- 5:56a get back to work program, it's not a workforce development program. It's
- 6:01an insurance program for low income Americans. And if we were to, you
- 6:08know, continue with the House bill that had passed that we saw passed last
- 6:13week that proposes these work requirements, the US Department of Health and Human Services
- 6:19estimates that two hundred and twenty thousand West Virginia Medicaid expansion and roullies are at
- 6:26lists a risk of losing their coverage, not because they're not meeting the work
- 6:30requirements, but because we are putting in place a bureaucratic red tape that makes
- 6:38this more of a paperwork requirement rather than a legitimate work requirement that actually helps
- 6:45low income West Virginia. And a couple of things I will say to that,
- 6:47and I agree with you. Well, one of the things I want
- 6:49to bring up that you brought up that I think a lot of people may
- 6:53not be aware of, and you are right. When we hear the term
- 6:57medicaid, we have a tendency think, Okay, these are all people that
- 7:00are doing nothing. The majority, or at least it's about I forget the
- 7:03exact statistic that you put out there, but about is it fifty percent or
- 7:08thereabouts of the people that receive medicaid are working? Is that right? Yeah?
- 7:12Here in West Virginia, over fifty percent. Okay, it's over fifty
- 7:15it's it's over fifty percent, as you said, um and so, And
- 7:19I think that's very important to note. And also when you throw out that
- 7:24we're bureaucratic red tape. In doing a lot of the reading of the information
- 7:28that you provided, in some independent reading on my own last night, I
- 7:30learned some things about this that you're not the only group that says this,
- 7:34that this is not really it may be while people may have this idea,
- 7:39Okay, we're going to put you back to work, you're gonna have to
- 7:41do this, the way that this is being attacked, in my opinion,
- 7:45based on my research, is that it is going to just create a lot
- 7:49more bureaucratic red tape and it's probably not the best approach. Would you would
- 7:56you agree with that? I would agree with that. You know, let's
- 8:00go back to the debt limit debate itself for a moment and then tie that
- 8:03in a little bit more. Since nineteen sixty, and this is probably in
- 8:11the press release we sent you, Congress has acted seventy eight separate times to
- 8:16either permanently raise, temporarily raise, or extend revise the definition of the debt
- 8:22limit. And this has been typically non controversial. It's happened forty nine times
- 8:28under Republican presidents, twenty nine times under Democratic presidents. So sliding in Medicaid
- 8:35work requirements is really just an attack on access to quality, affordable healthcare,
- 8:41you know, with particularly devastating consequences. Like I said, up to two
- 8:46hundred and twenty thousand West Virginia and role either at risk of losing coverage.
- 8:52And if we want to debate what helps people work, how we can grow
- 8:56our workforce and things, we can have that debate. That would be a
- 9:01wonderful debate to have their programs out there. There are policies out there that
- 9:05we know work. One that we know doesn't work is Medicaid work requirements.
- 9:09We've seen this in the past. We have actually a very good case study
- 9:15from just about five years ago when Arkansas imposed this paperwork requirement on people enrolled
- 9:20in Medicaid, and what we saw was not an increase in workforce participation,
- 9:26It was not higher wages, it was none of those things. What we
- 9:31saw was because of the paperwork burden, more than eighteen thousand individuals, individuals
- 9:37that's almost one and four who were you know, already working and were otherwise
- 9:45eligible for Medicaid lost their healthcare in just seven months, just simply due to
- 9:50the burdens and paperwork requirements and that additional level of bureaucracy. And like I
- 9:56said, it's the you know, these requirements are not about work, They're
- 10:01about paperwork and otherwise eligible patients losing coverage when they get caught up in this
- 10:07bureacratic red tape talking to with doctor just guys who's executive director of West Virginians
- 10:13for Affordable Healthcare here five eighty five. And I will say this, I
- 10:18know this from my time or in and around government. All the government loves
- 10:20the red tape into bureaucracy. They love it, they do. They might
- 10:26like it, but I'm not sure the people who have to really impose these
- 10:31would like it. And I don't understand that. You know, and this
- 10:35is a cost. This would be a cost to the state of West Virginia
- 10:37to even impose this. It would take time and money to even do it,
- 10:43not even to mention the hundreds of thousands of West Virginians that could potentially
- 10:46lose their healthcare coverage. Talk about your organization, as I said, you
- 10:50and others have been on the show in the past, its West Virginias for
- 10:54Affordable Healthcare. Well to tell us basically what the mission statement and what you're
- 10:58overall work is with the West Virginian's for Affordable Healthcare. Yeah, our mission
- 11:03is pretty simple. It is to promote policy that helps m West Virginians get
- 11:09access to affordable, equitable healthcare and we do that typically through the policy process
- 11:16as as advocates for good, well sounded healthcare policy, and so again kind
- 11:24of circling back here. You know your goals. You wanted our listeners to
- 11:26to reach out to their congressional delegations or just to make their voices heard if
- 11:31they if they don't agree with let's being proposed to talk about that as we
- 11:33close. Yeah, I was like, I was like, especially our senator's
- 11:39mansion and capital. Now and your your listeners can reach out and say,
- 11:43hey, it's time we put West Virginians first. If we want to talk
- 11:46about policies that actually support work and help people thrive. First of all,
- 11:52they've got to be healthy and Medicaid lets people do that. And then let's
- 11:56talk about things high quality job training, making childcare more affordable. Pastickly programs
- 12:01that have designed that have been proven to actually help people work. Cutting people
- 12:07off from their health insurance no way achieves that goal. Doctor Jessica, it's
- 12:13always a pleasure to talk to you. We will talk soon. Where can
- 12:16people learn more about your organization? Can you throw out a website or social

- 16:00welcome to the show State Senator now Republican candidate for Attorney General in the state
- 16:04of West Virginia, Mike Stewart, Good morning, sir. How are you
- 16:07hey great, I'm terrific. Thanks for having me, Thank you for being
- 16:11here. You made it official Tuesday night. You are now a candidate for
- 16:15West Virginia's Attorney General, in office now held by Patrick Morrissey. Why run
- 16:18for a g Well, I don't think there's anybody who's better qualified or better
- 16:22built for the job. Listen, I love serving in the State Senate.
- 16:26I took this decision very seriously. I traveled throughout my district. I spoke
- 16:30with stakeholders from Lincoln, Logan, Boone, and Kanall County, the counties
- 16:34I represent in the state Senate. I said, I'm conflicted here, right.
- 16:37I just won this landslide victory over this four term, sixteen year incumbent,
- 16:42well liked Democrat and a five to one Democrat district. I love serving
- 16:48in the state Senate. I have a big record there past more bills in
- 16:51my first sixty days than not to hit my opponent in this race, than
- 16:56has passed in six years in the state Senate. But they said, listen,
- 17:02we're glad you serve as our state senator. But you have an obligation
- 17:06to stop up right. West Virginia's under siege. And the Attorney General Patrick
- 17:11Morrisey has done this. Washington policies. Heck, we saw New York state
- 17:15band gas stoves yesterday. We see the Biden administration even going after hunters,
- 17:21let amo fishing, tackle climate crazies, fake news, gender confusion, all
- 17:29these issues that hit West Virginia. Whether you get the JAB or don't get
- 17:33the JAB, we have to have a strong attorney general that has the gumption
- 17:38and strengthen record to step up and fight for the people of West Virginia.
- 17:42That's been my record. I had a big record as US attorney. So
- 17:45the people from my district said, it's an obligation you have, and so
- 17:51I say this, and I mean this sincerely. I don't necessarily want the
- 17:55title of being Attorney General. I need to do attorney general. We need
- 18:00somebody with my record who can step in day one, get the work done
- 18:04and fight on behalf of the people West Virginia. What let me sort of
- 18:10play. I don't want to pay Devil's I because I just want to present
- 18:11another side here. So you ran for State Senates. You said you beat
- 18:15Ron Stillings, and Ron Stillings was a fixture in southern West Virginia, very
- 18:19well respected. You. You ran a race and and quite frankly, wasn't
- 18:25very close. I mean, you you beat Doc Stylings. But they told
- 18:26us I was supposed to lose it, And well, yeah, you're right,
- 18:30A lot of people did, a lot of people did. So you
- 18:33ran for that. You ran for State Senate um and and you got that
- 18:37position, and you were in the job three four months. Whatever, whatever
- 18:41the case may be. There may be those and you said that people of
- 18:45that district have asked you to run, and I don't. I don't.
- 18:47I'm not saying that they didn't. But what would you say to those people
- 18:51that that fought for you, that wanted to make you state senator now that
- 18:55you're possibly going to be switching roles and that you're I don't want to see
- 18:57you're leaving in behind, But I mean, you're going on to something else.
- 19:00The brothers perhaps no more important role in the state of West Virginia.
- 19:03You could even argue more important than governor the role of attorney general. I'm
- 19:07qualified for this job, no question, Nobody can question In fact, I'm
- 19:11probably the most qualified person in the state of West Virginia who's running or not
- 19:15running for Attorney General. And I have the record to back it up.
- 19:19Somebody said it's not bragging if you have the record to back it up.
- 19:22I have the record to back it up. Nobody in the history of West
- 19:26Virginia had ever prosecuted anybody at the Supreme Court. I prosecuted a Republican and
- 19:32a Democrat. I didn't care. If there's corruption, We're going after it.
- 19:36So here's what I say, and here's what they said to me,
- 19:37is you don't get to pick the timing of the challenges in your life.
- 19:41I didn't know the Attorney General was going to move out of that seat.
- 19:45But would you rather have and this is the question they posed to me.
- 19:48Would we rather have you as one of one hundred and thirty four in the
- 19:51legislature doing a great job force passing big bills. No first term senator has
- 19:56ever passed four major bills like I did, Or would we rather have you
- 20:02in the role of Attorney general where you can go back to that role you
- 20:04did as a US attorney and expand that at the state level and protect us
- 20:10when all this federal overreach is hitting us left and right. You need somebody
- 20:15like me who understands these challenges. And when it comes to the opiate crisis,
- 20:18the fentnyl crisis, listen, I carry it's genuine folks all the time.
- 20:23Or like it's a gimmick, it's not really. You gotta understand.
- 20:26The other night when I made the announcement, Melody Douglas and Joe were there,
- 20:30their parents of Victoria Douglas, who overdosed on a bad concoction of heroine
- 20:37and fentnyl. I carry those pictures to remind me every day of why I'm
- 20:41in this fight. It is genuine. I am from the hills and Hollers.
- 20:45I was never supposed to be At this point, I don't need another
- 20:48title. I'm doing this and the people in my district understand my passion to
- 20:53fight, to win, to make our lives better. And if we get
- 20:57a rhino or somebody who is weak, or somebody who needs to learn and
- 21:03the role of Attorney general, we're gonna step backward. We can't afford it.
- 21:07The forces against us are powerful, they're organized, they know exactly what
- 21:11they're doing. They're after our culture are a way of life. Heck,
- 21:15they're hitting our hunters. Now they want our guns. People can say these
- 21:18are just talking lines. This is real. This is real. And so
- 21:23when it came the idea of staying in the state Senate or serving as Attorney
- 21:29general, will heck, I'm gonna have to work again twenty four hours a
- 21:32day, every day of the year. That was a choice that was easy
- 21:36for me. I have to step up and assume the obligation of serving the
- 21:38people at Westford Jay and the role where my highest and best use can be
- 21:44used by the state and by my district. And I'll do great things.
- 21:48I'll work hard. Everybody knows my work ethic, and we'll continue pushing forward
- 21:52on issues like the op fentinyl crisis, federal overreach. I had some of
- 21:59the just elder abuse cases. I had some of the largest identity cases.
- 22:04I had the largest medicaid fraud case in the history of West Virginia. That's
- 22:08what the attorney general does here. This makes perfect sense. And then what
- 22:12would I do different with my background? One thing our attorney general doesn't have
- 22:18is criminal authority. In West Virginia. We need a champion who can organize
- 22:23statewide, the state effort with respect to opiates and fentanyl. Nobody better situated
- 22:30to work with our prosecutors, to work with community leaders statewide with criminal authority,
- 22:36to do the investigations that are needed and coordinate the response. Because right
- 22:40now we have fifty five efforts going on in fifty five counties. I've been
- 22:45there, I've done that. We need someone like me to do this job.
- 22:49What would that take to in order to do that? I mean,
- 22:52I think that's a great idea what you're talking about, bringing these fifty five
- 22:56counties together. But from a legal standpoint from somebody that's not an attorney you
- 22:59are, what would that take? Would it take any kind of change in
- 23:02law, in legislation? What would it take to bring all those groups together?
- 23:04So West Virginia is one of the states that doesn't allow its attorney general
- 23:10to have criminal authority. I'm not arguing for broad based criminal authority. I'm
- 23:14saying we need limited criminal authority, especially with opiates and fentel and to deal
- 23:18and organize and respond to this crisis. It's only getting worse every year.
- 23:22West Virginia's overdose rate twice per capita that of the next closest state. If
- 23:29you were to cut it in half, we still lead the country. It
- 23:30would take legislative authority. You're talking to a sitting state senator. That's worked
- 23:34pretty well. I've gotten four bills passed working with the Senate and the House,
- 23:41and the governor signed those bills. I know how to build teams.
- 23:44I'll make that argument. Hopefully they'll give me that authority. I have great
- 23:48respect, of course for the legislature and the governor and all those machines of
- 23:53government. But if I, for some reason would abuse that authority, they
- 23:57can remove that authority as soon as they give to me. But we need
- 24:00this coordinated response if we're really gonna try to take on this battle and make
- 24:04a dent in this crisis. That's not improving. Talking to Mike Stewart,
- 24:08who was a state senator and he announced on Tuesday night he's gonna be running
- 24:12for attorney general next year with the state of West Virginia, Senator, why
- 24:15do you think that your message has resonated so well that you were able to
- 24:21go in and knock off doctor Ron stylings, which a lot of people didn't
- 24:23see coming. Even with the Republican wave, we have in wester Ninia.
- 24:26A lot of people thought that would be a difficult task. You were able
- 24:30to pull that off and talk about that message. Why it's resonated so well,
- 24:33you think with people of that district, and now, how do you
- 24:36take that message and go statewide with him? Well, it's gonna be the
- 24:40same message basically, right, because you're you're telling me some of the same
- 24:42things I heard you say when you were run some of the same things that
- 24:45you were saying when you're running for Senate. It's basically it's basically the same
- 24:49a lot of the same message. Anyway, listen, it's it is the
- 24:52same message. Yeah. I was a former Republican Party chairman. I was
- 24:56Trump's co chair in twenty sixteen. I ended up being the US at any
- 25:00big record people know about that, I've talked about it. Don't think it's
- 25:03bragging if you can back it up, and I can back it up.
- 25:06In the state Senate past four major bills, but three of those dealt with
- 25:11the very same things that I talk about every day. Two drug bills updating
- 25:15the Controlled Substances Act, putting zylazine zombie drug trenk in there. Listen,
- 25:19it had not been updated in five or six years. Before I got there,
- 25:23hadn't been done. But I went there, took over and worked with
- 25:27the teams in both the Senate in the House. When we got it done,
- 25:30passed a bill dealing with Delta eight, Delta ten, and out of
- 25:34control over the counter drug market targeting our children. Now it's better. It
- 25:40was great. I worked with great stakeholders across the board. We ended up
- 25:45with bipartisan uniform support for where we ended up here my message. I'm originally
- 25:49from Barbara County. I grew up in Morgantown. I've spent the past twenty
- 25:53some years raising my kids here in Charleston. I think the reason my message
- 26:00resonates is because I just am who I am. I'm comfortable in my skin.
- 26:03I've got a passion to do good things, and I love the work
- 26:07I've done. I don't think I'm done yet with the work I can do,
- 26:11and I think people resonate to the positive, optimistic that our best days
- 26:15are ahead. But we have to do the work. We have to prove
- 26:18it out, and I think my record speaks for itself. People want results,
- 26:23but they don't want or just politicians who are serving in these roles for
- 26:27the next office. And so those folks would say, well, g Stuart,
- 26:32that's what you're doing here. It's not what I'm doing here. Listen,
- 26:34I'm very comfortable in the State Senate, and I stepping down for state
- 26:38Oh listen, if you if something happens that you do not win, which
- 26:44I know you're confident enough to say that you are going to win, and
- 26:45that's fine. I like the confidence. But if something happens that you don't
- 26:48win, then you're still state Senators. So you're not You're not stepping down.
- 26:52I've got a four year term and I continue to fight every day for
- 26:56my district. And so when I heard say, listen, you owe this
- 27:00to us. Listen my district in all of US Virginia, but my district
- 27:03in particular. You know this. You're from there, Lincoln Logan Boone.
- 27:07We have been ravaged by the drug the overdose crisis, the poison peddlers coming
- 27:12in from Detroit. We need heavy, coordinated action in this respect. We've
- 27:17had great work done already, but nobody, nobody better situated, better prepared,
- 27:23ready able. It's a serious job for serious person who's done serious things.
- 27:30I've done those things and even the people from my districts say, you
- 27:33know what, we love you as our state senator. You can't win with
- 27:36the numbers I did and get the work done that I've done already, But
- 27:38they said it's time to step up. Your obligation is to run for attorney
- 27:42general. And I believe that. And I don't think we get to choose
- 27:45the challenges when they approach us through life. We're hit with challenges every single
- 27:49day. We don't pick the timing of those things. I didn't know the
- 27:53Attorney general was going to run for governor, but when we see that vacancy
- 27:56there, we can't afford to have someone week learning on the job, a
- 28:02rhino or god forbid, a radical liberal. And the job of Attorney general
- 28:07because what it does every day is protect the people of West Virginia. There
- 28:11are more jobs in West Virginia today as a result of the work of Patrick
- 28:15Morris in the suits that he's brought, some landmark suits. We work on
- 28:18the federal level to protect West Virginians. I understand it. I've done it
- 28:22before. I'm prepared to do it again. We do know that another state
- 28:27Senator, Ryan Weld to Brook County, has announced he'll be running for attorney
- 28:30general. Who's on the show a couple of weeks ago, could be more
- 28:33entering the race. I mean, I think it's pretty safe bet to say
- 28:36whoever enters the Republican's gonna win, you know, no matter what, no
- 28:38matter what the office is. Between the two of you and mister Weld,
- 28:41and I'm not asking you to trash him in any way, but between what
- 28:45makes Mike Stewart a better candidate than Ryan Weld, Well, I think you
- 28:48have to look at the voting records and who's really prepared to day of one
- 28:52to be in that office. He's a fine young guy. In twenty fifteen,
- 28:56when I signed onto the Trump campaign as the chair of that campaign,
- 29:00he was passing the bar. Nothing wrong with that, But when you look
- 29:04at voting records, right that transgender bill to let little boys play little girls
- 29:11sports. He voted to allow that to happen. He refused to vote to
- 29:15ban it. Campus Kerry, I was one of the folks that led the
- 29:18charge on that this year. Regardless of what position you have, I don't
- 29:22back away from my vote. I think it makes our schools and our states
- 29:25safer. I believe in the second amendment wholeheartedly in committee in twenty nineteen,
- 29:30he blocked it. He blocked it last year for the key abortion vote,
- 29:34the most consequential abortion anti abortion bill in the history of the state of West
- 29:40Virginia. He's a no vote. I can go through a whole host of
- 29:44issues when it comes to COVID and the JAB. Last year, in a
- 29:49twenty nine to five vote, he was in the five and he said that
- 29:52listen, if you get fired from your employer because you refused to take the
- 29:56JAB, you can't qualify for unemployment. In share there are big differences between
- 30:02US form Energy, where we just gave three hundred million dollars of taxpayer money
- 30:07to an unproven new company in the Northern Panhandle who stated as their goal to
- 30:14end the burning of all fossil fuels, coal and natural gas. I was
- 30:18strongly opposed and spoke on the legislative floor, the Senate floor and voted no.
- 30:23That bill passed three hundred million dollars. You know, Arch Resources put
- 30:26a long wall in for the Lear mine up in Barber County. They spent
- 30:32four hundred million doing that. Nobody gave them a dollar to do that.
- 30:34And there are five hundred and fifty jobs paying between ninety thousand and one hundred
- 30:38and twenty thousand dollars a year today as a result of the work of arch
- 30:42Resources. Listen, I'm pro coal, I'm pro natural gas. I don't
- 30:48believe in this push down from the federal government. There are big differences between
- 30:52us. He's a fine young guy. I just think voting records matter.
- 30:56At the end of the day, I'm proud of my voting record. I'm
- 30:57proud of my work as u US Attorney. But if you want to be
- 31:00the attorney general representing the values and people of West Virginia, that voting record
- 31:06matters. That tells you what your values are. I'm gonna go on a
- 31:10fifty five county tour. We're gonna try to win fifty five counties. I
- 31:15am fighting for folks like my mom and dad, my dad who was a
- 31:18coal miner for fifty one plus years, and all those folks through Lincoln Logan
- 31:23Boone that have been ignored, forgotten, and given no attention. Effectively,
- 31:30we still have broad bases in West Virginia where there is no internet surface,
- 31:33not a single bar. I just got to the state Senate past four major
- 31:37bills who what's the comparative record. So I'd say this, I welcome all
- 31:41comers. Let's talk about the issues. I think folks need to explain.
- 31:45If you're voting to let little boys play little girls sports, that case is
- 31:51pending in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Then next Attorney General is going
- 31:55to have to go to the Supreme Court of the United States most likely defend
- 32:00that bill that we passed, which is constitutional in West Virginia. I applaud
- 32:04the legislature for standing up for women, standing up for fairness in sports.
- 32:08But I would say when you elect the next Attorney general, you better know
- 32:13their record. Yea, better know their record. I've got the right record.
- 32:15I've got the right values to fight for our people. Mike Stewart's state
- 32:20senator who is now a candidate for Attorney General, working people. Learn more
- 32:22about your campaign. It's makewvgreat dot Com. MAKEWV great dot Com. I
- 32:28really listen, this is a campaign. I'm gonna need parade walkers, I'm
- 32:30gonna need envelope stuffers, i need volunteers. This truly is a citizens campaign.
- 32:36I'm not the good old boy running for this office. As US attorney
- 32:38you make a lot of folks pretty unhappy. I'm gonna need folks who have
- 32:43my back, that fight for me, that fight for West virgin I give
- 32:45you this assurance, just like I have my whole career. I will fight
- 32:51for the people of West Virginia. I will do so honorably. I will
- 32:54do so with their participation. I've always done things with transparency. And this
- 33:00guy, this kid who grew up in that haller, that little white house
- 33:04with a ten rough in Barbara County that looked across at that orange creek that
- 33:08ran orange from ascid mind drainage. That boy that graduated from Morgantown High Listen
- 33:15that the guy who's the son of that coal miner and my mom went to
- 33:19vocational school and became a nurse. I'm the most plus guy in the world.
- 33:22If I want to lose, I'm the most plus guy in the world.
- 33:24I want your support. I want you to get up behind this campaign.

- 36:38want to welcome in knock Kanda Commission President Kik Krper. How are you,
- 36:42sir? Well, I'm just fine. But this is a high enerview shows
- 36:45for me. I don't know if I got Yeah, he's fighting out here,
- 36:52little a little excited. But two weeks in a row, two weeks
- 36:54in a row, I've had a pleasure of having you on the show.
- 36:57Well, you invited me. I did because liked to be here. I
- 37:00got something in particular I want to talk to you about. We're on.
- 37:02I'm gonna take about five minutes of your time here because I want I've got
- 37:06tool. I've got tool. As long as you want. Well, I
- 37:09don't, unfortunately, So all right, So you're normally a jovial guy.
- 37:14You always got a smile on your face, but you're not happy with West
- 37:16Virginia American Water Company right now. Well, this is a family show,
- 37:20so I can't throw up yes, please don't please, don't get me fired.
- 37:24And I know what I want to hear. It's always the same thing.
- 37:28Whenever they raise their rates. The water company always run commercials making you
- 37:31feel good about paying your water bill. Well, I don't know about your
- 37:36listeners. I don't feel good about paying what I believe to be if not
- 37:39the highest, one of the highest water bill rates in the state, if
- 37:44not this whole geographic carrying. Now the water company has this table to come
- 37:49out and say I'm not right on that, but look at your water bill
- 37:52listeners and see if you agree with me. It's your water bill is just
- 37:54too darn high already and you're get ready to raise it again. Now here's
- 38:00what I think is the latest kick in the teeth by Western American Water Company.
- 38:07They called my office because we're partners at the water company. We the
- 38:10Canall County Commission Commissioners slanging Gun commission Wheeler and I do business with the water
- 38:15company all the time. We do joint projects together. So it's been a
- 38:20long standing practice. If they're going to seek a rate increase, they call
- 38:23us up and give us a heads up. They did give us a heads
- 38:28up before they did this. They called my office courthouse at five twenty.
- 38:35Well, it doesn't matter, it's five twenty twenty and I mean, it's
- 38:37a cornhouse. And then then they called back five minutes later and let the
- 38:43voicemail at five twenty five. Then they sent their press release out at five
- 38:47thirty. The idea of that was so we couldn't respond to it. Here's
- 38:52the bottom line. They're going to say, Listen, this raise is necessary.
- 38:58Our investors need a reasonable way to return. We've spent millions of dollars
- 39:02fixing up the system, and someone has to pay for it. Surely we
- 39:07shouldn't. Well, I think you have to take look at the whole thing,
- 39:12look at the salaries, the bonuses, the perks, the profitability the
- 39:16water company. And even if it's true that this money needs to be put
- 39:22in their system, they let their system fall apart, fell last twenty twenty
- 39:25five years, and now they're trying to make up because it leaks. Like
- 39:29I said, at the end of the day, seniors people and fixed incomes
- 39:35simply can't afford these bills. Now, what's ridiculous about this one? I
- 39:39can't tell you now how much the increase really is. The way they did
- 39:43their press release, I believe it was that Charleston Ze headline said three hundred
- 39:47men. Well that's what it looks like to claim now it's only fifty million.
- 39:53I think, Yeah, what I have here is this three hundred and
- 39:55forty millions? Well, I said, I'm govern around the all right,
- 40:00go ahead, But let me tell you one thing. Whenever they tell you
- 40:02your bill is going to go fifteen dollars a month, that really means twenty
- 40:07because what their average customer, their numbers never add up anyway. The way
- 40:10they do it here is here is what I sincerely believe one of three things
- 40:16has to happen. And I would encourage you everyone who's in the House or
- 40:22Senate or wants to be in the House or Senate or anything else, to
- 40:25answer this question. Why doesn't the legislator do what I've asked them to do
- 40:30for over a decade cap utility bills? Cap utility bills? So now you
- 40:37you've actually presented okay, you've actually presented to what is I mean, I've
- 40:40other than none? What has been their response. They tell you about it
- 40:45right now, crickets. Okay, some of them will will introduce the bill,
- 40:50and I'll give them credit for that. They'll introduce the bill and it
- 40:52didn't go anywhere. Remember you've got a supermajority and they can do anything.
- 40:58They could. They could do something utility bills. It's the legistator wants to
- 41:01number two. If they don't, then the Public Service Commission ought to either
- 41:07start capping utility rate increases, denying them, or the Senate needs to hold
- 41:14them accountable. Remember the Senate does the confirmation to the Public Service Commission.
- 41:19Right. The third thing is you remember the great debate every what was that
- 41:23failed thing of the last election day? The amendment set, Oh, Amendment
- 41:28two. Remember what we were told by the leadership on AMMO two that people
- 41:34have a right to vote. I agreed with that. Remember saying when I
- 41:38put this on the ballot, you're you're saying we should put it on the
- 41:43ballot. A legislation that would cap utility bills. Yes, okay, I
- 41:49mean the utility bills run. I mean, by my calculations, conservatively in
- 41:55the last twelve months and not the last week, proposals for utility rate increases
- 42:01are an access now in West Virginia of one billion dollars with a beam,
- 42:08correct with a b with the beach with a beam. The beach stands for
- 42:14something else too, that this it is a family show, which really is
- 42:17just thought it be. I mean, I respect our legislatures, and frankly,
- 42:22I had a privilege of seeing UH Senator Blair and UH speaker hands off
- 42:28the airport the other day. I was delighted to have them there, and
- 42:31it was great what they did for Canall County, West Virginia. But it
- 42:36is time to have a discussion about this. All you hear is we're never
- 42:39gonna raise taxes. We're holding time. It's all good, But isn't this
- 42:45a form of a tax I mean, well, I guess you could look
- 42:51at it that way. But but but but it's also it's I mean,
- 42:53they're what they're gonna say, and and I am sorry, I do have
- 42:57to wrap this up because I got some other things to get to it.
- 43:00What they're going to say is is that these bills and these raises and whatnot,
- 43:04Commissioner are are needed for the infrastructure, but they have to do that.
- 43:07I think that's true. In my family business, which I'm not a
- 43:12part of it. We've been in business in this county for over one hundred
- 43:15years. I will guarantee my brother runs it and I have no part in
- 43:19it. I'll guarantee he could use a new roof right now, but he
- 43:22can't go out and put a roof in. Gets to take his time and
- 43:24patch it and live within these means. They don't have to live within their
- 43:30means. The water companies own out of New Jersey, they don't care about
- 43:34us. The power companies owned out of Ohio, they don't care about us.
- 43:37They are a monopoly, and in a monopoly, they're regulated. Whether
- 43:42you'll like it or not, They're a regulated monopoly, and someone needs to
- 43:45start regulating these escalating bills. People can't afford it. Dave good Way to
- 43:52leave it. Sarah. Is always a pleasure to have you on the show,
- 43:54and we will talk soon. Thanks a lot, okay, and I'm
- 43:58not running for attorney ready for Attorney general. Noted County Commission President Kent Krper

- 47:10The board had a public meeting last night voted five zo to close Grand View
- 47:14Elementary School will close at the end of the next school year twenty twenty three
- 47:17twenty twenty four. Those kids will now be split between Mary C. Snow
- 47:21and Edgewood. Tuesday, of course, the vote of the board voted to
- 47:23close of Marmatt. Those kids would go to Chesapeake. It was held.
- 47:29That public meeting was last night at westid Midi School. About one hundred people
- 47:31showed up. Complete story about it posted at WCHS network dot com and the
- 47:36final hearing on the third school slated forclosure will be tonight. That's the closure
- 47:42of Wimer Elementary and consolidating those students into two other schools. That meeting will
- 47:45be held at five o'clock at Saying Almans High School. I'm sorry. At
- 47:49six o'clock, I'm sorry. Six o'clock it'ld say. Abuds High School will
- 47:52of course have complete coverage of the meeting WCHS network dot com and on our
- 47:55social media platforms as well. There's a big story in front of the paper
- 47:59to down. I'll try to get into this next week about more low income
- 48:02housing coming to the Charleston area. It's gonna be where Charleston department store was.
- 48:07Again, big story in the gazette mail this morning. I'm going to
- 48:08try to get into that in the coming weeks. So it's just so much
- 48:13to get to. But I want to get to all these texts because Mike
- 48:15Stewart's interview elictit to a heck of a lot of texts. Bear with me,
- 48:19rapid fire, Rhino. We're gonna go through these as quickly as I
- 48:22can to try to get into these texts. A text says, this man
- 48:24talking about Mike Stewart sounds very, very, extremely bigly humble. I think
- 48:29that was supposed to be sarcastic. Texas, Mike, if you like an
- 48:31attorney general, please keep recreational marijuana illegal, Texas. Mike Stewart's gonna wipe
- 48:37the floor with liberal Ryan Weld. According to a texture, Texas says some
- 48:43quotes from Mike Stewart who fail to give any credit to the team that supports
- 48:46him or his co senators. He's not a one man show. The quote
- 48:51is humility will open more doors than arrogance ever will zig Ziggler and humility is
- 48:55nothing but truth, and pride is nothing but Lyne Saint Vincent de Paul.
- 49:00According to a text or textas and Mike Stewart is built for the AG job.
- 49:02No one else has the resume, experience record, or pedigree to compare.
- 49:07West Virginia cannot afford to hire an ineffective amateur for the AG role.
- 49:13Text says Dave. Mike Stewart will be a great choice for Attorney General.
- 49:15He's a man with integrity and common Conservative since texts says blah blah blah blah,
- 49:23good job regurgitation, far right talking points won't be voting for this one.
- 49:30Talking about Mike Stewart, tex says Senator Stewart has been an amazing advocate
- 49:34for West Virginias. He stood up for the workingman and will do a great
- 49:37job as AG of West Virginia. Text says Mike quit using the death of
- 49:43people from drugs to promote yourself and then turn around and claim some people's way
- 49:46of life is wrong. You're part of the problem, not the solution.
- 49:50Disgraceful. According to a texture texture says Berkut, Stewart doesn't have the guts
- 49:57to ad met that he that the disgraced Trump will that Vice President Pence could
- 50:00unilitedly declare who won the presidency, or that the fake ellector's plot was an
- 50:05attempt to steal an election. He's blank pathetic. He had a cup of
- 50:09coffee in the Senate and now already wants a power grab in the AG's office
- 50:13to give him criminal authority. As to the bureaucrat, Steward to name the
- 50:17specific groups that ask him to abandon his Senate seat. He's lying that any
- 50:21voter asked him to ask him why it's important to fight to save bump stocks
- 50:25like those used by the Nevada shooter to kill fifty eight people. According to
- 50:30a text or texture says, Mike Stewart has proven he is effective and has
- 50:34the people of West Virginia in his best interest. This isn't time. There
- 50:37isn't time in our state donation for voters to hire someone that needs to learn
- 50:39the robes. Mike Stewart a true conservative candid. Why do I feel like
- 50:43I should be charging money for all of these for all of these texts,
- 50:46I'm rady. Text says I want to know that whoever takes over the AG
- 50:51and Treasurer's offices that they will continue to fight against ESG and the World Economic
- 50:55Forums, global overreach and destruction of the US Constitution. According to a texture,
- 51:01textus says, appreciate your passion and conviction, Stewart, but I would
- 51:05prefer that your team skipped the extremism and the social freedoms. And you're whistleblowing.
- 51:09It makes you sound less intelligent than I suspect you are. According to
- 51:14a texture, Stuarts has a texture pushed for guns on school campuses, that
- 51:16pushed for child marriage. I'm for Stewarts Senate District, and I would like
- 51:20for him to step away from West Virginia politics and disappear from public life.
- 51:23Stewart is bad for business and bad for the people of West Virginia. Tex
- 51:28says, all I'm hearing from Mike Stewart is me, me, me only.
- 51:30I'm qualified only I could do this and me me me, just by
- 51:32listening to Stewart. I know who he's all about. Texas. West Virginia
- 51:37is undersieged by religious nut john crazys like Mike Stewart. Will Stewart, says
- 51:43a texture go after the price gallaging oil companies is ag shelb Oil made nine
- 51:49point six billion dollars in profit and gets billions and subsidies also known as free
- 51:52taxpayer money. So gas shouldn't be close to four dollars of gallot. Some
- 51:54of the billions of profit and subsidies should be passed along to the consumer via
- 51:58lower prices. Isn't that part of your job? Mike Stewart makes me physically
- 52:02ill. Please stop people reading breakfast according to a taxter, All right,
- 52:07gotta leave it there. My thanks to Attorney General candidate and say Senator Mike
- 52:10Stewart for being here. Also doctor Jessica Eyes for West Virginia's affordable healthcare and
- 52:15Kanah County Commission President Kent Carper coming up on the show to mark guest so's
- 52:19Travis Willard is here. Uh and uh we'll have our adopt me please.
