- 0:10I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and this episode is brought to
- 0:12you by the Great News Podcast. Tired of all the doom and gloom

- 0:21Instead, you'll find inspiring stories and developments making
- 0:25the world a better place. Find it in your favorite podcast
- 0:29app. But just to make it easy, I've
- 0:31left a link in the show notes. Today's quote comes from Haruki
- 0:35Murakami, one of the world's most celebrated novelists, whose
- 0:40books have been translated into over 50 languages and who has
- 0:43spent decades exploring the deepest questions of loss,
- 0:47identity, and transformation through his writing.
- 0:52From his novel Kafka on the Shore, he wrote, when you come
- 0:58out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked in.
- 1:04Wow, pretty profound. That's the quote people know.
- 1:09But Miracami didn't stop there. The full passage says something
- 1:13even more profound, and I want to read it to you.
- 1:18And once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it
- 1:22through, how you managed to survive.
- 1:26You won't even be sure whether the storm is really over.
- 1:30But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm,
- 1:33you won't be the same person who walked in.
- 1:37That's what the storm is all about.
- 1:40You won't remember how you made it through.
- 1:43You won't even be sure whether the storm is really over.
- 1:48That's the honest truth about surviving hard things, and it's
- 1:51exactly why this passage resonates so deeply with so many
- 1:55people. It doesn't promise you'll feel
- 1:58triumphant once over. It doesn't guarantee a clean
- 2:02ending or a clear moment of victory.
- 2:05It acknowledges that you might come out the other side
- 2:08confused, exhausted, and not entirely sure that darkness has
- 2:13passed. And yet, one thing is certain.
- 2:17You won't be the same. Here's what Mira Kami
- 2:21understands that most motivational content misses.
- 2:26Transformation isn't always chosen.
- 2:29Sometimes the storm arrives without your permission.
- 2:34Grief, illness, failure, loss, betrayal.
- 2:39You didn't sign up for that. You can't shortcut it.
- 2:44You can only move through it. And the moving through, the
- 2:48surviving, the enduring, the refusing to be destroyed, that
- 2:55changes you in ways that you couldn't have manufactured on
- 2:59your own. The storm isn't a detour from
- 3:02your growth. It is the growth.
- 3:06The person who walks out the other side carries something the
- 3:09person who walked in didn't have a depth, a resilience, a knowing
- 3:17that can only be earned by going through, not by going around.
- 3:23That's what this storm's all about.
- 3:26Not punishment, not bad luck, but transformation.
- 3:32So here's the question. What storm are you currently in?
- 3:35Or what storm have you survived that you haven't yet given
- 3:39yourself credit for surviving? Because if you're in it right
- 3:43now, keep going. You don't have to see the other
- 3:48side yet. You don't have to remember how
- 3:51you're making it through. You just have to keep moving.
- 3:55And when you come out and you will come out, you won't be the
- 4:00same person who walked in. That's what this storm is all
- 4:04about. That's going to do it for today.
- 4:08I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 4:13tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 4:19with another daily quote.
