- 1:28[SPEAKER_02]: Jill, welcome to daily influence.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much, Greg.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: Jill, can you share a bit about your background?
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: What
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, as you said, you know, the good news is I've got now four books and I'm very blessed to have shared stages with some major names, but really, you know, like everyone.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't always like that.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: I actually started my career in the music business because I, well, dropped out of law school.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: I hated it.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: and my creative mind needed something new and different, so I actually discovered publicity and promotion was my natural talent and really started, as I said, my career in the music business and working with amazing people and from that now,
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: I've been helping entrepreneurs and all kinds of small business owners really get publicity and get happening with your visibility.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's always my passion.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_02]: What inspired you to dedicate your career to helping others gain visibility and share their message with the world?
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think it's the part that I was so shy.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, honestly, I understand it.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I understand that people sometimes have some fear around it, or just showing up.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: But we aren't always encouraged to do that and to be allowed and proud and excited and visible.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: And so I found ways to do it and simple what I like to call the gorilla publicity way, right?
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: We're using a lot of time and focus and simple strategies to actually get visible, but without spending a fortune and for people who are in business.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: Our IN Team Series explores the idea that influence carries both power and responsibility.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: How do you define responsible influence in the world of media and publicity and how do you help your clients use visibility as a force for good?
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: publicity and visibility is essential.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean the truth is without it, nothing happens.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: And publicity does help you get seen and get heard and get paid.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: And the truth is then you can do good.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because people know you because you're an elevated expert,
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: because your reputation has risen, because you have publicity.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: And the truth is, you know, it's like, I know people sometimes brag about being a best kept secret.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: I always say to people, don't brag about that to me, because that is not something to brag about.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: What's key, what's important is that you are celebrated for your expertise.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: And yes, what?
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: You can do good in the world.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: You can help an impact and contribute.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: to others and be a force for good.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, listen, I wrote a book called The Profit of Kindness.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: I am such a believer in being a force for good and what I know about publicity is it helps you to do that.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's good news.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: You lead monthly kindness circles and often speak about the business power of kindness.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: Can you share how kindness has played a role in your own success and why you believe it's such a critical component of leadership and influence today?
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it was one of those happy accidents about writing the prophet of kindness.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: It was based on my, well, really an incident with a wonderful woman who over 80 who I would take care of and she started talking about kindness as a currency and wouldn't be great if we had the currency of kindness and it, you know, when those ideas just stick in your head, you know, somebody says something to you.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: And so my publisher said, yes, let's do it and what I've discovered in hosting these monthly kindness circles.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: We have people from all over the globe.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: They are free.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: We have interactive breakout sessions and opportunities for people to really be with each other in kindness, to help each other.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what I've discovered is from my own career showing up as a resource
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, to receive, but also really to give, like walking into a room and say, who can I help?
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: Start there.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's a beautiful thing.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that when you approach things with good-hearted intentions and focus and, you know, the consideration for others, that that kindness then multiplies and magnifies and helps you, you know, create the relationships that you want to.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_02]: Can you tell us about a moment or experience where you've thought you made a positive impact on someone's life, maybe a client or an audience member or someone who is inspired by your message?
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, a couple of things.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Number one, I have to tell you by hosting this monthly kind of circles what I'm hearing is
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: deals are being made.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how else to say it.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like I have funny enough a wonderful client who does hair products and I'm helping him with his publicity and one of my other colleagues who's an editor and book person and helps people get agents and publishers.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, she and him connected and he's helping her by sponsoring her new book, Bald Courage about her.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Courage through
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: And she's helping him with some products.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: For example, that's something that happened.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: One of my clients who's an interior designer.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: She showed up on the kind of circle, and actually got a client.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, she closed the client in a $2,000 client by the way by showing up on the kind of circle, because I had trained her in her message how to make it clear and concise and precise.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: So things do work together.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, kind people get more clients typically because people enjoy them and like them.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: And let's be honest, we like to work with people we like, know and trust.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: Publicity elevates your trust factor, kindness elevates your consideration and perception from others.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: It all just works together so beautifully.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: So what I'm noticing is a lot of overlap and a lot of...
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: possibilities.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to bring people together and for them to connect in my programs.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: I've been in programs where people don't let you really connect, but I've decided in my programs.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: My media mastery intensive and my kindness circle that people connect a lot and that makes a big difference.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: The I&Team philosophy reminds us that individual purpose strengthens collective success.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: How do you help others find their unique voice or I within the team or organization?
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: And why is that individuality essential to collaboration and growth?
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, a couple things, you know, with the profit of kindness, I'm very focused on helping teams create cultures of kindness because, you know, the, the I has to be the we and in other words, everybody has individual of course actions that they're accountable responsible for what I notice is when there is a team working together to create.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: kindness in the marketplace, kindness in the corporate culture, kindness in the independent culture, you know, if you're a smaller business, you know, to your clients and prospects, what I noticed in writing the profit of kindness is that kind companies, no matter how big or small.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: The truth is they were more profitable, the CEO was happier, the clients and prospects were happier.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: And whoever your team is, whether they're independent contractors or full-on, tend to be happier people.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that makes sense, you know, until enclosing what message or words of encouragement would you like to share with our listeners who aspire to make a positive difference in the world, whether through leadership, creativity, or everyday acts of kindness?
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: So a couple things, you know, I know people talk about random acts of kindness, I say,
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: Let's practice a conscious act of kindness every single day.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like, imagine a world we would be.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: One conscious act of kindness to whoever you would like.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, at the end of the day for some reason, I forgot about that, which typically doesn't happen, but I will send a nice text, a loving email.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: I will hand write a card, just something.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: If we all do something every single day, what a wonderful world this would be.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I have returned on kindness principles, rocks, I call them, and guess what, one of them is things like flexibility.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, in our world today, let's be honest, we all need to be more flexible, things happen, technology is strange as we all know.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, I think it's important that we allow for flexibility in our life, in our business, that makes a big difference too.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's great advice, Jill.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for sharing your insight, energy, and kindness with us today.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: Your work reminds us that influence is not just about being seen, but it's about how we show up.
