- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, let's see. We got to Elena on the phone.
- 0:03Elena would with Nightingale College. Elena, I don't we don't
- 0:07have in front of us, uh, the talking points that
- 0:10you sent, So you're gonna have to just tell us
- 0:13about gently and carefully guide us and carefully.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I think I can do that. I feel like, so
- 0:23today we're going to talk about how to have healthy
- 0:26and happy holiday season.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Oh thank god.
- 0:33Speaker 2: You know, this is a really fun time of year,
- 0:36and it can also be a pretty stressful time of year.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Yes, And my first.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Recommendation is to set realistic expectations. Just remember things that
- 0:48don't have to be absolutely picture perfect in order to
- 0:52be memorable and to be fun. Prioritize what's most important
- 0:56to you, and then try and go with the flow
- 0:59from there.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I think that's very good advice. Are you going to
- 1:04talk about not talking about politics at family?
- 1:09Speaker 2: I do have one about navigating complicated relationships there. I
- 1:14think that ye could shoehorn that in there.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I mean, it really does if you just set up
- 1:20the rule. Oh yeah, And like in my family, we
- 1:24haven't had to set that rule. We just sort of
- 1:27naturally do it. We don't talk about politics when we
- 1:30get together, but it can be rough.
- 1:33Speaker 3: It would be a good idea, I think to set
- 1:35that rule because there have been a couple of thanksgivings
- 1:38that I was invited to that somebody started poking and
- 1:45instead of me being smart enough to go, hey, let's
- 1:48not talk about that, shall we?
- 1:50Speaker 2: So how do you have?
- 1:53Speaker 1: I dove in? How do you? How do you set that?
- 1:55What's the best way to set it?
- 1:57Speaker 2: So setting boundaries is a really important, m delicate step.
- 2:01For sure. It can be things like thank you, I
- 2:05don't want to talk about that right now. You can
- 2:07say things like, oh, if we're going to talk about that,
- 2:10I would like to excuse myself, maybe leaving the room
- 2:14or even leaving the event if necessary, and just remembering
- 2:19that no absolutely is a complete sentence. You can say no, no,
- 2:24thank you, and you don't have to justify or explain yourself.
- 2:28And that goes for a lot of things. You know,
- 2:30if someone's questioning the food that you're eating, the clothes
- 2:33that you're wearing, whatever it might be, you have that
- 2:36power to set boundaries around.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, smoke, I'm going after I'm going I'm going
- 2:43down to the basement where the hookah is.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Oh dear, My next recommendation is to try to infuse
- 2:54some joy into this holiday season. So doing things like attitude,
- 3:00practice service for others, as well as create creative and
- 3:05fun projects can help you to be a little bit
- 3:08more joyful, a little bit more light during the holiday season.
- 3:12Speaker 1: You know, if you take your hand and you put
- 3:14it on a piece of paper and then trace it
- 3:16and then you can turn it into a turkey.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Craft will make you feel better.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, very science that shows. Yeah, arts and crafts can
- 3:27really help lift your spirit. My next tip is to
- 3:31create and stick to a budget. And this is another
- 3:36area where we might need to set some boundaries, both
- 3:38with ourselves and others. Just recognizing we're going to have
- 3:43a limit on how much gifts cost, or perhaps doing
- 3:47drawings for names instead of gifting to everybody, splitting the
- 3:51cost of meals, things like that.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great idea, And don't say things like
- 3:57do you have any idea how much this turkey costs me?
- 4:01Speaker 2: I definitely don't recommend that either. My next tip is
- 4:08to stick to your regular healthy habits. So the things
- 4:11that we all talk about all the time, drinking our water,
- 4:14getting plenty of movement, getting enough sleep, make sure that
- 4:19during the holidays you're finding time to do those things
- 4:22that you typically do anyway, So get that bottle of water,
- 4:26carry it around with you during the holidays. Make sure
- 4:29you eat vegetables along with your turkey and gravy and
- 4:32pie and all of that.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, although you're running the risk here of making
- 4:37my holiday boring.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Sometimes, but we have enough.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Remember we're doing the craft and make it more.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. That's right, Elena. I think we've run
- 4:50out of time here. It's always really nice to talk
- 4:52to you, and I hope you have a great holiday,
- 4:57great Thanksgiving. We'll talk to you before Christmas. We will.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 1: People want to find out more what do they do?
- 5:04Speaker 2: They can learn more about this as well as Nightingale's
- 5:07great programs by visiting Nightingale dot e d U.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Okay, thank you very much.
- 5:12Speaker 2: All right,
