- 0:05Speaker 1: Let's hit the inside scoop of that. T Senior insider
- 0:07Speaker 1: Ken Rosendal kon I'm excited. I know you might kind
- 0:09Speaker 1: of try to temper my expectations, but I think it's
- 0:12Speaker 1: news when the Tigers fall. I'm not rooting against the Tigers,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and it seems more and more like they might move
- 0:18Speaker 1: Trek Scouble.
- 0:18Speaker 2: What's the latest, Well, what I just reported on the
- 0:22Speaker 2: athletic is that teams have been respectful leading to this point,
- 0:27Speaker 2: trying to not interfere with the Tigers. They fought to
- 0:30Speaker 2: remain in contention, but the time for being respectful is
- 0:33Speaker 2: now over. Teams are calling the Tigers, multiple teams about schoolble,
- 0:38Speaker 2: probably starting today, is my understanding, and we'll see where
- 0:42Speaker 2: it goes. Certainly, the Tigers position over the last couple
- 0:45Speaker 2: of days has weakened. They've lost three straight. They're six
- 0:49Speaker 2: out in the division, four out in the wild card,
- 0:51Speaker 2: seven under five hundred. Now, I don't know that they've
- 0:54Speaker 2: made a decision yet, and I don't know that they're
- 0:56Speaker 2: ever going to necessarily make a decision. It might simply
- 0:59Speaker 2: be that they have a bar that must be met
- 1:03Speaker 2: to trade Trek Schoogl. If that bar is met, whether
- 1:06Speaker 2: they're in theory in contention or not, then they trade him.
- 1:11Speaker 2: So the action is just beginning here, and I expect
- 1:14Speaker 2: over the next few days it's going to get even
- 1:16Speaker 2: hotter and hotter. But the gist of the story is
- 1:19Speaker 2: that the time for waiting, at least from the teams
- 1:23Speaker 2: that are interested perspective, that's over.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Ken.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Will this be a last minute thing? Will this be
- 1:28Speaker 4: a last minute decision by the Tigersley? Meaning, oh, it's
- 1:33Speaker 4: the trade deadlines at six pm or whatever was it
- 1:36Speaker 4: six pm or five pm Eastern? And it's four point
- 1:38Speaker 4: thirty and we've now made a decision. Teams, give us
- 1:41Speaker 4: your best offer or are they going to give some
- 1:44Speaker 4: I mean, I know you said the negotiations are open now,
- 1:48Speaker 4: but are they going to start actually looking at this
- 1:51Speaker 4: and saying, man, we might actually we might have to
- 1:53Speaker 4: do this.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Well, AJ a couple things here. I'm saying that the
- 1:56Speaker 2: negotiations are open from the other team's perspectives, interested teams perspectives,
- 2:01Speaker 2: they are ready to start talking. The Tigers, we don't
- 2:05Speaker 2: know exactly where their heads are at, but they're not
- 2:09Speaker 2: going to take this down to the last half hour
- 2:11Speaker 2: and then decide we're going to trade him. If they
- 2:14Speaker 2: do that, it would not result in the trade. If
- 2:17Speaker 2: they want to trade him, or if they're open to
- 2:19Speaker 2: trading him, that's probably the better way to put it.
- 2:21Speaker 2: If they're open to trading him, that decision probably will
- 2:24Speaker 2: be made in the coming days, well before the deadline,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and then the auction begins for schoobl So I don't
- 2:31Speaker 2: see it going down to the end in terms of
- 2:33Speaker 2: their decision making. I do see it going down to
- 2:37Speaker 2: the end in terms of pulling the trigger and actually
- 2:40Speaker 2: making the deal. The more that they wait or the
- 2:43Speaker 2: longer that they wait, the more leverage that they have
- 2:46Speaker 2: over the other teams, the more urgent the other team
- 2:49Speaker 2: has become. So I don't necessarily see it happening Friday.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I see it happening Monday, right before the deadline.
- 2:58Speaker 3: That process has already start. Everyone's going out and looking
- 3:01Speaker 3: at who they want, what they would, you know, minor
- 3:04Speaker 3: league systems, all that stuff. Do you feel like, in
- 3:08Speaker 3: the case of Trek Scoogle, the most persistent team gets
- 3:12Speaker 3: it done, or the most valued team in the Tigers'
- 3:16Speaker 3: eyes gets it done.
- 3:19Speaker 2: The team with the best offer gets it done. It's
- 3:21Speaker 2: really simple. Eric from that perspective, and the offers, of course,
- 3:26Speaker 2: the differing offers that they are likely to receive. They
- 3:30Speaker 2: are beauty in the eye of the beholder. Right. You
- 3:32Speaker 2: might see one package from Team A, let's call it
- 3:36Speaker 2: the Braves, and say, well, that package is really good,
- 3:39Speaker 2: but we like Team B, let's call it the Brewers
- 3:41Speaker 2: even better. And then somebody else might disagree with that entirely,
- 3:45Speaker 2: and then a team like the Dodgers might top everyone.
- 3:47Speaker 2: So it's going to come down to purely what the
- 3:51Speaker 2: Tigers think they can get. And they have all these
- 3:54Speaker 2: formulas now and models and ways they evaluate players. They
- 3:58Speaker 2: assign essentially a numerical value to each player, and whatever
- 4:03Speaker 2: value is the highest will be the one that they
- 4:05Speaker 2: take if indeed they do this.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Ken is their favorite?
- 4:09Speaker 3: Form?
- 4:10Speaker 4: Is their favorite you think in baseball executives' minds for Trekschooble,
- 4:14Speaker 4: Is there a favorite team that they say, Oh, this
- 4:18Speaker 4: team needs trek schouble and they have the prospect capital
- 4:21Speaker 4: to get it done.
- 4:23Speaker 2: A j That's a really interesting question for this reason.
- 4:27Speaker 2: If you were just basing it on the quality of
- 4:30Speaker 2: a team's farm system and that team's ability to do it,
- 4:33Speaker 2: you would say Milwaukee is the favorite. The problem with
- 4:36Speaker 2: Milwaukee is they don't like to do these kinds of deals,
- 4:39Speaker 2: and I don't expect them necessarily to do this kind
- 4:41Speaker 2: of deal. So that's why people keep coming back to
- 4:45Speaker 2: the Dodgers. Now, the Dodgers have less urgency than perhaps
- 4:49Speaker 2: any team in the mix to actually do this, other
- 4:52Speaker 2: than they're trying to repeat. But in terms of their staff,
- 4:55Speaker 2: they're pretty well set, assuming Snell and Glass now and
- 4:58Speaker 2: then eventually show hey, all come back and pitch again.
- 5:02Speaker 2: But the Dodgers have a great system and they have
- 5:05Speaker 2: the ability to potentially meet the tigers deeds here. And
- 5:10Speaker 2: as we've written before reported before, what the Tigers might
- 5:14Speaker 2: want here aj is a controllable starting pitcher to replace
- 5:17Speaker 2: Schooble in the rotation, cover his innings. Not the same
- 5:20Speaker 2: quality obviously, but that would enable them to keep going here,
- 5:24Speaker 2: keep trying to contend, and of course they would want
- 5:27Speaker 2: on top of that additional prospect. So if that's the
- 5:31Speaker 2: path they go, all of these teams could probably meet it,
- 5:34Speaker 2: but it's a matter of which team has the most
- 5:37Speaker 2: motivation to do it. One team we mentioned in the
- 5:40Speaker 2: story today is the Braves, and the Braves obviously have
- 5:44Speaker 2: a need for a playoff caliber starter. They've had that
- 5:46Speaker 2: need since the offseason and haven't addressed it. The Braves
- 5:50Speaker 2: have an improved system and they are seen as a
- 5:53Speaker 2: team that could do this, and Alexanthopolis, their president base Operations,
- 5:57Speaker 2: made a trade like this once before twenty fifteen. David
- 6:01Speaker 2: Price hasn't really done it with the Braves, but hasn't
- 6:05Speaker 2: really had the chance to get this kind of difference
- 6:07Speaker 2: maker either. So that's going to be a team to watch,
- 6:10Speaker 2: and that fact alone might drive the Dodgers to get
- 6:14Speaker 2: involved in a greater way than maybe they want to
- 6:17Speaker 2: be simply to play keep.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Away Ken Dealer's choice, Angels, what news are you hearing
- 6:24Speaker 3: on the three possibly four? If you're throwing Joe Adele
- 6:27Speaker 3: in there, the three or four people that they had
- 6:30Speaker 3: three or four guys, they have to be able to
- 6:32Speaker 3: trade it.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Eric, This one's a mystery right now. And it's not
- 6:36Speaker 2: a mystery in terms of teams wanting debt Meers and
- 6:40Speaker 2: Soriano and zach Netto. It's a mystery in terms of
- 6:43Speaker 2: what Ardi Moreno ultimately will allow his interim GM John
- 6:48Speaker 2: Mezzelok to do.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Now.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Zelac has said that he doesn't foresee this as a rebuild.
- 6:55Speaker 2: That said, he can still trade one of the players
- 6:59Speaker 2: I just mentioned and not calt a rebuild depending upon
- 7:02Speaker 2: what he gets back. We all have t talked for
- 7:05Speaker 2: years about how the Angels need to do things like this.
- 7:09Speaker 2: You would think in bringing in Mozelac, they would be
- 7:12Speaker 2: prepared to do things like this. But as I've said
- 7:15Speaker 2: many times before in this show, please do not ask
- 7:18Speaker 2: me to read the mind of Ardi Moreno.
- 7:23Speaker 1: If you're watching us, you already know we're wearing mack
- 7:25Speaker 1: Weldon right now as we talk about a great brand
- 7:28Speaker 1: that makes things so comfortable and easy to wear. But
- 7:31Speaker 1: if you're listening to the show, let me tell you
- 7:33Speaker 1: a little bit more about mac Weldon with my friend
- 7:36Speaker 1: Eric Kratz.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it's comfortable, it's light, it's summertime right now. For me, though,
- 7:42Speaker 3: they cater to what I need tall clothes. Normally, when
- 7:46Speaker 3: I buy tall clothes it's like something that's cumbersome and boxy.
- 7:51Speaker 3: It still fits incredibly well, super light, perfect for the summertime.
- 7:56Speaker 3: They got me.
- 7:57Speaker 1: All covered, comfortable. Perform Min's material can be yours. Mack
- 8:03Speaker 1: Weldon is the spot. Don't sweat the heat. This summer
- 8:07Speaker 1: feel as effortlessly cool as you look. With Mack Weldon,
- 8:10Speaker 1: go to Mackweldon dot com and get twenty percent off
- 8:12Speaker 1: your first order of one hundred twenty five bucks or
- 8:14Speaker 1: more with promo code foul. That's m A c k
- 8:16Speaker 1: W E L d o N dot com code f
- 8:19Speaker 1: o U L.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Ken. Don't tell us that you're supposed to know everything, Ken,
- 8:23Speaker 4: you're supposed to know everything with the AJ NO, I
- 8:26Speaker 4: thought you did geez all this time. Ken, You're just
- 8:28Speaker 4: disappointed me. Another aos team for me, Ken is the Rangers.
- 8:32Speaker 4: They're in first place. They just took three out of
- 8:34Speaker 4: four from the Mariners. Jock Peterson is doing really well.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I mean, why at Langford's on fire. Their pitching staff
- 8:41Speaker 4: is good. They keep saying, though. Everything I heard in
- 8:43Speaker 4: Texas this weekend was, oh, you know, we don't know
- 8:45Speaker 4: if they're gonna have money to go out and make
- 8:47Speaker 4: the move. They might need to do it. Did this
- 8:49Speaker 4: weekend convince them maybe a little bit more, and after
- 8:52Speaker 4: taking three or four from the Mariners that hey, we
- 8:54Speaker 4: can win this division. So maybe if we get everyone
- 8:56Speaker 4: back healthy, we can make a run.
- 8:58Speaker 2: AJ. I've heard the same about the reluctance to take
- 9:02Speaker 2: on additional salary, and yes, they're in a good position
- 9:06Speaker 2: right now. With Corey Seeger on his way back, he's
- 9:08Speaker 2: getting closer. And if they get Segret and Langford on
- 9:11Speaker 2: the field together, hallelujah, they finally would be close to
- 9:15Speaker 2: the hole. And they've also got starting pitchers coming back,
- 9:19Speaker 2: guys who might not be able to contribute as necessarily starters,
- 9:23Speaker 2: but certainly pitchers who could give them innings and quality innings.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I'm talking about Cody Bradford, Jordan Montgomery, and Jack Lyder.
- 9:30Speaker 2: The Rangers' owner, Ray Davis, is a member of the
- 9:33Speaker 2: Labor Policy Committee. He's a guy who isn't necessarily going
- 9:37Speaker 2: to be inclined to add payroll when the sport might
- 9:40Speaker 2: be shutting down for part or all of next season,
- 9:44Speaker 2: at least in the eyes of the owners. So I
- 9:47Speaker 2: don't know if that is what is causing him perhaps
- 9:51Speaker 2: to be reluctant to add here, or if it's the Rangers'
- 9:55Speaker 2: TV situation, which has been a bit of a mess,
- 9:59Speaker 2: as it has been for many teams for quite some
- 10:01Speaker 2: time now. They'd recently switched to streaming services, They've had
- 10:05Speaker 2: all kinds of issues. They've formed their own network, but
- 10:08Speaker 2: it hasn't been as lucrative as what they had before
- 10:11Speaker 2: with the RSN. All of this is probably coming into play,
- 10:15Speaker 2: But that said, owners can act impetuously at times, and
- 10:20Speaker 2: they can say you know what, Yeah, I like what
- 10:23Speaker 2: I'm saying here, we have a chance to do something special. Okay,
- 10:27Speaker 2: here is x million to play with. And if that's
- 10:30Speaker 2: the case, then the Rangers will do some things.
- 10:34Speaker 3: One of the teams that we know is gonna sell,
- 10:36Speaker 3: but who are they gonna sell? Kind of begs my
- 10:39Speaker 3: question of the Elio Ramos with the Giants. He was
- 10:42Speaker 3: an All Star two years ago. Do the Giants value
- 10:46Speaker 3: him the way that other teams value him? Do they
- 10:49Speaker 3: overvalue him and want to keep him, do they undervalue
- 10:52Speaker 3: him and want to get rid of him? Where do
- 10:54Speaker 3: the Giants sit with him? And because he could be
- 10:56Speaker 3: that right handed bat that a lot of teams are
- 10:59Speaker 3: looking for, they.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Are open on him and they are willing to listen,
- 11:04Speaker 2: as they should be on virtually their entire roster. Right
- 11:07Speaker 2: Logan Web seems to be the only player that they're
- 11:10Speaker 2: reluctant on. I believe Bob Knightingale reported they don't want
- 11:13Speaker 2: to trade Lee as well, but Elliott Ramos because of
- 11:17Speaker 2: what you just said, Eric, right handed hitter, we saw it.
- 11:22Speaker 2: A right handed hitter brought the Nationals this week. Now,
- 11:24Speaker 2: granted it's a different situation. Curtis Mead is under much
- 11:27Speaker 2: longer control than Elliott Ramos is, but it brought a
- 11:31Speaker 2: pretty good starting pitching prospect or even a starting pitcher
- 11:35Speaker 2: who has actually established himself in Connolly early. So with
- 11:40Speaker 2: that chip, the Giants have something other teams want, right
- 11:44Speaker 2: handed hitter with power. If you're the Giants, you have
- 11:47Speaker 2: to listen on that. You have to entertain it, and
- 11:50Speaker 2: if you get your price, you do it.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Ken Mariners where we have Mariners Mariners wise, does jeredput
- 12:00Speaker 5: We just had the Mariner's guy on for us and
- 12:03Speaker 5: he was talking about how they're this and they need that,
- 12:06Speaker 5: and they have a million needs.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Are they gonna do it? Are they gonna be able
- 12:09Speaker 4: to fill the needs? They have a Jery Depoto wheeling
- 12:11Speaker 4: and dealing, gonna be able to fill these needs to
- 12:14Speaker 4: get the mirrors to where they need to get.
- 12:15Speaker 2: To a j I don't know if it's a million needs.
- 12:18Speaker 2: They've wanted a right handed bat and they wanted a
- 12:21Speaker 2: high leverage reliever an impact reliever, somebody who could pitch
- 12:24Speaker 2: in the later innings of a game. They should be
- 12:27Speaker 2: able to fill those needs with what they have. They
- 12:30Speaker 2: have maybe the deepest starting pitching corps, including top prospects,
- 12:35Speaker 2: of any team in the majors. We've written about Luis
- 12:38Speaker 2: Castillo being available and Emerson Hancock being available. So the
- 12:43Speaker 2: question for me is not whether they can do it.
- 12:47Speaker 2: They can certainly do it. The questions becoming where are
- 12:51Speaker 2: they as a team now? You can maybe go out
- 12:54Speaker 2: and get multiple bats as bad as their offense has been,
- 12:57Speaker 2: but man, they have been one of the biggest disappointments
- 13:00Speaker 2: in baseball this season, and it goes beyond Raleigh. It's
- 13:03Speaker 2: really their whole offense. So it's going to be interesting
- 13:07Speaker 2: to see how they approach this. I heard you guys
- 13:09Speaker 2: talking on the break about the firing of the assistant
- 13:12Speaker 2: hitting coach, effectively the third hitting coach. That to me
- 13:15Speaker 2: obviously signaled that they are not happy with the current
- 13:19Speaker 2: circumstances and that they want to clearly improve. I like
- 13:23Speaker 2: you guys, thought the move was weak, to say the least,
- 13:26Speaker 2: third hitting coach, really, but they want to win and
- 13:30Speaker 2: they want to be the team that essentially they were
- 13:33Speaker 2: last season when they got to Game seven of the Alcs.
- 13:37Speaker 2: But at some point you have to ask yourself, if
- 13:39Speaker 2: you're Jerry Depoto, if you're justin Holland, or the guys
- 13:41Speaker 2: who run their front office, hey, are we good enough?
- 13:47Speaker 3: Yeah? And a team that I think has not been
- 13:50Speaker 3: good enough and I thought their offense was gonna be
- 13:52Speaker 3: great the last few years. Cincinnati Reds were a playoff
- 13:55Speaker 3: team last year out of nowhere this year? Are they
- 14:00Speaker 3: ready to trade? Are they ready to trade and maybe
- 14:04Speaker 3: get a new look around the three guys who are
- 14:07Speaker 3: doing well in Bledet, La de la Cruz and South
- 14:10Speaker 3: Stewart and go from there because there's a lot of
- 14:13Speaker 3: guys on the peripheries that were supposed to be part
- 14:15Speaker 3: of this next consistent playoff generation for the Reds.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Eric they're certainly ready to trade. The question is how
- 14:23Speaker 2: deep will they go? And certainly they have a number
- 14:26Speaker 2: of players on expiring contracts Nathaniel Lowe, Tyler Stevenson, some relievers,
- 14:32Speaker 2: Brady Singer in the starting rotation. Those are the guys
- 14:35Speaker 2: who they likely will move. The question is would they
- 14:38Speaker 2: go beyond that to a Hunter Green, to a Nicoldolo,
- 14:42Speaker 2: to a JJ Bledey all pitchers under control or players
- 14:46Speaker 2: under control beyond this season. I'm not sure they will.
- 14:49Speaker 2: They'll be busy enough with their guys on expiring contracts.
- 14:52Speaker 2: But to make an impact, you have to trade more
- 14:55Speaker 2: than rentals, and that is the question with the Reds.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Will they be willing to do that?
- 15:01Speaker 6: Ken?
- 15:01Speaker 1: I do read the comments and there happens to be
- 15:03Speaker 1: many Rais fans that have been checking out the segments
- 15:06Speaker 1: we do with you, So I'm going to give them
- 15:08Speaker 1: thirty seconds right now. Do you think that the ownership
- 15:12Speaker 1: group helps to push something along here recognizing what's going on.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I know they've been kind of quiet and they're working
- 15:17Speaker 1: hard behind the scenes on the ballpark situation, the new ballpark,
- 15:20Speaker 1: but this is such a prime time to strike. They
- 15:23Speaker 1: have the farm system, they're top heavy the team.
- 15:26Speaker 6: So do you see it?
- 15:30Speaker 2: I don't know that I see it for that reason,
- 15:31Speaker 2: and I actually asked last week Scott about the push
- 15:35Speaker 2: for the ballpark and there are a couple of votes
- 15:37Speaker 2: in August that are coming up, and whether that would
- 15:40Speaker 2: influence them to maybe do something big and positive to
- 15:45Speaker 2: sway the people who are voting. The city council in
- 15:48Speaker 2: Tampa the county all that, and I was told no,
- 15:52Speaker 2: right now, the Ray's economics are what they are. They
- 15:54Speaker 2: have not changed and they are going to operate as
- 15:56Speaker 2: they've always operated. Now, if I'm in a new ownership
- 16:01Speaker 2: group and I'm with a team that has the best
- 16:04Speaker 2: record in the American League, I'm excited and maybe I
- 16:08Speaker 2: do push. But I just don't see the Rays doing
- 16:11Speaker 2: anything differently. They always, as we know, play on the
- 16:16Speaker 2: big names. Now they don't always get them. Nelson Cruz
- 16:19Speaker 2: was probably the biggest a few years back. But they're
- 16:22Speaker 2: going to be aggressive and they're going to try to
- 16:24Speaker 2: improve their team. It's a question of how they will
- 16:28Speaker 2: go about. It's the same with every team, of course,
- 16:30Speaker 2: and the Rays are really interesting because they can do
- 16:33Speaker 2: a number of different things. People talk about shortstop that's
- 16:35Speaker 2: certainly one, second base could be another catcher is something
- 16:39Speaker 2: that they've always been short on ever since they didn't
- 16:41Speaker 2: draft Buster Posey, so all that and pitching too. Yeah,
- 16:46Speaker 2: I believe that they're going to do some things. I
- 16:48Speaker 2: just don't know, Scott if that push is going to
- 16:51Speaker 2: result from an owner or a new ownership group wanting
- 16:55Speaker 2: to make a splash. It's not how the rays.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Roll, new Honorskin new owners.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Can where are you this weekend? Can you tell the
- 17:02Speaker 4: people where you are this weekend?
- 17:04Speaker 2: I'm in Chicago this weekend.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Are you? Do you know what is happening on Saturday
- 17:08Speaker 4: after the game in Chicago?
- 17:11Speaker 2: I do not, Aj, I do.
- 17:14Speaker 4: Scott knows. Last time we did a game in Wrigley, Ken,
- 17:18Speaker 4: we got you. We you were begrudgingly taken to a
- 17:21Speaker 4: DJ set with Adam Amin. I had to drag you there.
- 17:25Speaker 4: He is DJing again this Saturday. Can we count you
- 17:28Speaker 4: in to be at the DJ set this Saturday.
- 17:31Speaker 2: AJ two days before the deadline. The answer is absolutely not.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Oh, Ken, you're such a curmudgeon. Such a curmudgeon, can't
- 17:39Speaker 4: even support your people?

- 19:19Speaker 1: each team out of the MLB trade deadline, and we're
- 19:22Speaker 1: going to try and rack up each division. This is
- 19:24Speaker 1: put out by the Athletic and I can point out
- 19:26Speaker 1: some of the writers that did this, And the first
- 19:28Speaker 1: one actually that put out a bold prediction that I
- 19:31Speaker 1: really like was coming from Cody Stavenhagen who covers the Tigers,
- 19:36Speaker 1: but had a little note on the Diamondback.
- 19:37Speaker 6: So this is what the title looks like.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Now, can we let's just rack right through some of
- 19:43Speaker 1: these divisions so we can get the guys to react, basically,
- 19:46Speaker 1: maybe point one thing out per board. We'll go down
- 19:48Speaker 1: the line. We're going to start with the National League West.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'll just read it so the podcast crowd can also listen,
- 19:53Speaker 1: and then you guys react for the Dodgers. Another starter's
- 19:56Speaker 1: dealt I like this one for the Diamondbacks where they're
- 19:58Speaker 1: not getting first base production and they would pick up
- 20:01Speaker 1: Luis Garcia Junior. Here it's another Curtis Mead case where
- 20:03Speaker 1: he's just having a freaking Gangbusters year with this new
- 20:07Speaker 1: front office helping him out. Padres Mason Miller gets traded
- 20:10Speaker 1: dot next year for the Giants, Bryce Eldridge finishes strong.
- 20:14Speaker 1: That's not very bold, and the Rockies extending Hunter Goodman
- 20:17Speaker 1: aj one on the board.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Do you like?
- 20:21Speaker 4: I love the next year for Mason that's funny, And
- 20:23Speaker 4: the Rockies extend Hunter Goodman. I don't know why they
- 20:25Speaker 4: haven't already tried to have.
- 20:26Speaker 6: This extension talk.
- 20:27Speaker 2: So is the other ones?
- 20:28Speaker 4: Yes, so Louis Garcia Junior fit nicely in the Diamondbacks,
- 20:31Speaker 4: But why has Hunter Goodman not been extended. I know
- 20:33Speaker 4: his defense doesn't add up but to a perfect, you know, catcher.
- 20:37Speaker 4: But Mike Piazza wasn't a perfect catcher, and he's in
- 20:39Speaker 4: the Hall of Fame because he had a lot of homers.
- 20:41Speaker 4: So if you knock in more than you let in,
- 20:43Speaker 4: I feel like he's the perfect player. Maybe the Rockies
- 20:45Speaker 4: could build around because he's been the All Star Game
- 20:47Speaker 4: a couple of times, and fans are starting to take
- 20:49Speaker 4: notice of Hunter Goodman.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Nats got rid of Luis Garcia Junior for some talent
- 20:59Speaker 3: and the I'm back to need somebody that can hit.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Now Garcia Junior swings up. There's a lot of chase
- 21:06Speaker 3: in that game, but he's put a lot of hard
- 21:09Speaker 3: contact on the ball and I'd love to see him
- 21:12Speaker 3: in the desert with that team that can run, and
- 21:15Speaker 3: I think he might drive in more runs than he
- 21:18Speaker 3: does with the Gnats, Like I think there is a
- 21:21Speaker 3: I think that to me, that's the bold prediction that
- 21:24Speaker 3: I love to see, especially if the Gnats can continue
- 21:27Speaker 3: to turn their hitting into pitching.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I like when you get specific on the bold
- 21:34Speaker 1: deadline prediction. Let's get to the Ale East for the Rays.
- 21:38Speaker 1: They put make a big splash, and that's a good call.
- 21:42Speaker 1: There's some teams that get to this point you're waiting
- 21:45Speaker 1: for them to have that season where it's all coming together.
- 21:47Speaker 6: The Rays have it, do they go for it a.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Little bit more than they usually do it the deadline
- 21:52Speaker 1: Yankees ready hitting catcher at it. That doesn't feel bold
- 21:55Speaker 1: at all. That feels like a definite Red Sox adding
- 21:59Speaker 1: a right handed bat they just did with me.
- 22:02Speaker 6: Maybe they add another one.
- 22:03Speaker 1: You're near Cano getting called on for the Orioles and
- 22:06Speaker 1: a top tier starter. Add it for the Blue Jays,
- 22:08Speaker 1: AJ that's bold because they might be selling.
- 22:11Speaker 4: Yeah, that was That was one that surprised me. Is
- 22:13Speaker 4: are the Blue Jays buying or selling? But I thought
- 22:17Speaker 4: they were selling? But I guess not. According to the Athletic,
- 22:20Speaker 4: that one surprised me. Here's the one that this needs
- 22:22Speaker 4: to happen. Tampa Bay makes a big splash.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Do it.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Do it, mister Neander, do.
- 22:28Speaker 4: It, Kevin Cash, make that big splash and give your
- 22:32Speaker 4: team a chance to make the World Series, impossibly win
- 22:35Speaker 4: it because the American League is so down right now.
- 22:38Speaker 4: If you can make that big splash, whether it's a
- 22:40Speaker 4: hitter Adam Deyandi Diaz and cam and Aro, whether it's
- 22:43Speaker 4: another guy in that rotation, whatever it is, Tampa, now
- 22:46Speaker 4: is the time to strike because the American League is down.
- 22:48Speaker 4: We just talked about the Yankees woes. The rest of
- 22:51Speaker 4: this league is not good right now. It's your chance
- 22:53Speaker 4: to make a deep postseason run.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Do it.
- 22:55Speaker 6: Two notes.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Chad Jennings in this article wrote for the Race and
- 22:59Speaker 1: pointed out how the last time they were in a
- 23:01Speaker 1: good position to buy at the trade deadline, their big
- 23:03Speaker 1: move was Aaron Savali and remember that's when they got
- 23:06Speaker 1: knocked out in the wildcard round and the trap was
- 23:09Speaker 1: like a ghost town and it was just a bad
- 23:13Speaker 1: series for them, right, wasn't that twenty three against the
- 23:16Speaker 1: Texas Rangers who went on a little heater there. So
- 23:18Speaker 1: the race just did not do what they were supposed
- 23:20Speaker 1: to do. On the bold prediction front, I do want
- 23:22Speaker 1: to just defend Mitch Bannon, who's the host of Our
- 23:26Speaker 1: Bluebird Territory and wrote this for the Blue Jays. Bold
- 23:28Speaker 1: prediction doesn't mean that it's going to happen. You're just saying, hey,
- 23:31Speaker 1: if I see the Blue Jays doing something and they're
- 23:34Speaker 1: kind of wavering a little bit leaning towards cell, my
- 23:36Speaker 1: bold prediction is. He said that they actually buy and
- 23:39Speaker 1: they make an addition that's more of a long term play.
- 23:42Speaker 1: So he pointed out names like Jose Soriano, redet Mercer,
- 23:45Speaker 1: even Nick Lodolo, guys that they.
- 23:47Speaker 6: Could pick up.
- 23:48Speaker 1: See if they get hot this year as a team.
- 23:51Speaker 1: If not, they still picked up a starter that they
- 23:53Speaker 1: can use long term. Just to give contexts there, Kratz, No.
- 23:59Speaker 3: I'm just going to say those names that you just said,
- 24:02Speaker 3: that's who I see the Rays picking up. I see
- 24:04Speaker 3: the Rays turning Jose Soriano around and having years of control,
- 24:10Speaker 3: and that's their big move because they're going to be like, hey,
- 24:13Speaker 3: you know what, in the beginning of the season, the
- 24:15Speaker 3: first month and a half, when you were an All
- 24:17Speaker 3: Star candidate, you were a cy young candidate, your splitter
- 24:21Speaker 3: release point was two inches higher. We're going to figure
- 24:24Speaker 3: out how to get back to that point and you're
- 24:26Speaker 3: going to be dominant for us and be a front
- 24:28Speaker 3: of the rotation behind McClanahan, behind, behind Ris Musen, behind
- 24:34Speaker 3: like all those dudes.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Let's go al West. I like some of these and
- 24:40Speaker 1: they're bold. We'll start with the Rangers. They have Luke
- 24:44Speaker 1: Weaver going over there, so Texas kind of in the middle,
- 24:48Speaker 1: but they usually buy if they feel like they're in
- 24:50Speaker 1: the middle and this would be a long term play,
- 24:52Speaker 1: or it's a two year guy in Weaver, this is
- 24:55Speaker 1: a big one. Jandler Romer wrote this one. Jeremy Pinia
- 24:58Speaker 1: traded away. That could be bold prediction. He's kind of
- 25:01Speaker 1: pushing saying, hey, this doesn't seem like it's necessarily the
- 25:04Speaker 1: best astros roster that they're rolling out there. It's a
- 25:07Speaker 1: seller's market and they haven't been able to agree on
- 25:09Speaker 1: a contract extension with Paynya. We're getting close to time
- 25:13Speaker 1: to figure that out. Mariners. They're saying to Poto tamer
- 25:16Speaker 1: than usual if he doesn't love what they're doing, which
- 25:19Speaker 1: we talked about earlier on the show. A is standing
- 25:21Speaker 1: pat so not doing much. And then Angel's big league
- 25:23Speaker 1: talent is added, what do you like aj.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Well, they're surprising a Dipoto tame. He's never tamed. He
- 25:30Speaker 4: always tries to make some moves. He can't sit still
- 25:33Speaker 4: on his phone. But Jeremy Payne getting traded away. And
- 25:36Speaker 4: I was just in Texas I heard Luke Weaver's name
- 25:38Speaker 4: being bandied about, which sure he would be nice because
- 25:41Speaker 4: their bullpen didn't strike anybody out. They're bullpen's been good,
- 25:44Speaker 4: but it is a low strikeout bullpen and not in
- 25:47Speaker 4: all the names you've ever heard of. But the big
- 25:48Speaker 4: news of that is Jeremy Paine, You're getting traded away.
- 25:50Speaker 4: I thought he was like a centerpiece for the Astros
- 25:53Speaker 4: for a long time, but apparently not.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I mean, mine, mine are again the big My bold
- 26:02Speaker 3: prediction for the West would be that the Athletics get
- 26:07Speaker 3: big league talent. This is when they can go and
- 26:10Speaker 3: get that pitcher that doesn't really have a choice. He
- 26:15Speaker 3: doesn't have a choice to come to the A's. They
- 26:18Speaker 3: trade away. They have a lot of right handed hitting
- 26:21Speaker 3: power that is possibly gonna help a team. They trade
- 26:24Speaker 3: one of those guys away, and then they can lock
- 26:26Speaker 3: in a starting rotation piece that they're never gonna be
- 26:31Speaker 3: able to get in free agency because nobody's going to
- 26:33Speaker 3: Sacramento until they're at least in Vegas.
- 26:37Speaker 6: Yeah, you have to get creative, especially for pitching.
- 26:41Speaker 1: It is going to be tough to land pitching without
- 26:43Speaker 1: severely overpaying, and I don't see them doing that consistently
- 26:46Speaker 1: like they did with Sevarino, who's now. I mean, he
- 26:49Speaker 1: bounced back in his first whatever six weeks, but he's
- 26:52Speaker 1: been mia for a while now, he's been hurt. I
- 26:55Speaker 1: think it's the shoulder and el central. This might be
- 26:57Speaker 1: the best one that they put together. And terms of
- 27:00Speaker 1: a one through five in the division here, so they
- 27:02Speaker 1: have Milwaukee landing Scooble. Cubs get the big starter, a
- 27:06Speaker 1: much needed starter, probably a B Lister. Pirates say hello
- 27:10Speaker 1: to eastak paradees. I like that Cardinals deal away Lars
- 27:14Speaker 1: Noobar and Hector Rodriguez makes his debut for.
- 27:17Speaker 6: The Red Scrats.
- 27:18Speaker 1: You want to go first year for the team he
- 27:20Speaker 1: used to play for, finally doing it because Hey, last year,
- 27:23Speaker 1: the Brewers had an awesome season, and a lot of
- 27:25Speaker 1: it obviously went late into the year where they went
- 27:27Speaker 1: on a run into the playoffs and then got stomped
- 27:30Speaker 1: by the Dodgers.
- 27:30Speaker 6: There's no excuses this year. They know how good they are.
- 27:33Speaker 1: They need to do something significant and this is the
- 27:35Speaker 1: one that's staring at them in the face.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Yes, and talking to the people in Milwaukee. I was
- 27:41Speaker 3: there this past weekend. It was less the fact that
- 27:44Speaker 3: they had to face the hot Dodgers all that stuff.
- 27:48Speaker 3: They feel like internally, a lot of the people there
- 27:52Speaker 3: feel like that Game five, needing to go to five
- 27:55Speaker 3: games and not putting the Cubs away Game three, Game
- 27:59Speaker 3: four or pushed them a little bit out of where
- 28:03Speaker 3: they needed to be. I get it. They scored zero
- 28:05Speaker 3: runs when they were facing the Dodgers, and they look
- 28:08Speaker 3: like they were dominant, Like they were dominated. They dominated
- 28:12Speaker 3: Dodgers during the regular season. To me, it may not
- 28:15Speaker 3: be trek Scuble. Whatever one B is, if he is
- 28:20Speaker 3: one A, one B is what they're going to do.
- 28:24Speaker 3: I think the Brewers are going to make that move
- 28:27Speaker 3: and this year will be the year that they push
- 28:29Speaker 3: it and they become the team that is gonna is
- 28:33Speaker 3: going to be lined up to knock off the Dodgers.
- 28:37Speaker 4: They need to they need to do something. Sorry, sorry,
- 28:41Speaker 4: sorry Burber fans. You guys need to do something, whether
- 28:44Speaker 4: it's Trek Scuble or whoever.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Like I agree.
- 28:47Speaker 4: And then the other one on here that's interesting is
- 28:49Speaker 4: Saint Louis deals Lar's newbar. We treat Lars nutbar like
- 28:52Speaker 4: he's a superstar? Is Lars superstar? And I missed the
- 28:55Speaker 4: memo that he became a superstar.
- 28:57Speaker 6: No, he's not.
- 28:59Speaker 3: It it's all the time. It's all the time. It
- 29:03Speaker 3: has been that for the last three years. And I
- 29:07Speaker 3: it's hey.
- 29:08Speaker 2: I mean.
- 29:10Speaker 5: He's a nice player.
- 29:11Speaker 4: He's not though, he's not someone we're like, Wow, this
- 29:13Speaker 4: guy's gonna franchise alter Us if we get Lars Newbargers.
- 29:16Speaker 3: He walks a lot.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Yeah, three forty four obp this year one o four
- 29:22Speaker 1: ops plus.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 1: I mean he's put up some some decent offensive numbers
- 29:26Speaker 1: when he's been on the field.
- 29:27Speaker 6: But I'm with you, I wouldn't say I think always hurt.
- 29:31Speaker 6: He has heard a lot.
- 29:31Speaker 1: The bold part is just the Cardinals doing I guess
- 29:34Speaker 1: it's if you do that that's not even necessarily selling.
- 29:37Speaker 6: You could buy and sell.
- 29:38Speaker 1: If you're a team like the Cardinals, we could see
- 29:41Speaker 1: something like that pop up. Let me get to the
- 29:43Speaker 1: Al Central for AJ to lead off here, you'll like
- 29:45Speaker 1: the top one they have the White Sox adding Star
- 29:48Speaker 1: Tours plural Star Tours, Guardians Lane Thomas returns. Hey, it's
- 29:54Speaker 1: tough to find that kind of bat right now, even
- 29:56Speaker 1: though Thomas hasn't been great, maybe he finds it again,
- 29:59Speaker 1: mister gran and slam for the Guardians and the playoffs
- 30:01Speaker 1: twins adding to their roster. I would say that's bold,
- 30:05Speaker 1: but could happen Tiger's avoid a fire sale is what
- 30:08Speaker 1: was put on here for the bold prediction and then
- 30:11Speaker 1: two starters getting dealt for the Royals. See, I think
- 30:17Speaker 1: that should happen if you're Kansas City. Take advantage again
- 30:19Speaker 1: of a seller's market here with with Lugo, but even
- 30:22Speaker 1: more so, WAK is getting a lot of interest and attention,
- 30:26Speaker 1: and they're kind of making it like, man, we don't
- 30:28Speaker 1: want to punt on next year, And I'm like don't
- 30:30Speaker 1: worry it, acquire some freaking prospects and then pick up
- 30:33Speaker 1: another starter in the offseason.
- 30:34Speaker 6: But that's me aja your.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Thoughts next year. I love that, Oh next year, we'll
- 30:39Speaker 4: worried about next year. Why we're worried about next year?
- 30:41Speaker 4: I mean next year's next year. There might not even
- 30:43Speaker 4: be a next year, so let's worry about getting better
- 30:46Speaker 4: for I mean, the Royals aren't one year away from
- 30:48Speaker 4: being competitive. There are a few years away, so they're
- 30:50Speaker 4: gonna need more prospects. So I think they have the
- 30:52Speaker 4: opportunity to do that. That's why I love that, Oh
- 30:55Speaker 4: next year, we can do it next year. Next year,
- 30:57Speaker 4: there's no next year. And then the thing on you
- 31:00Speaker 4: Lane Thomas. He didn't do so good a first time
- 31:01Speaker 4: with The Guardian, so I'd be surprised if they.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Brought him back.
- 31:03Speaker 4: But the White Sox need to add starters. I mean,
- 31:06Speaker 4: Davis Martin, I love him, started leaking a little oil.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Sean Berg looks really good, but Anthony Kay, he's been okay,
- 31:12Speaker 4: they need some you know, Schultz hasn't been good since
- 31:14Speaker 4: he's been back. So the White Socks are leading this division,
- 31:17Speaker 4: but they need help. And then the other one in
- 31:19Speaker 4: the middle, Minnesota adds to roster. Wait what I thought
- 31:22Speaker 4: they were gonna get rid of everybody? Now all of
- 31:23Speaker 4: a sudden they're going to add to this roster. I
- 31:25Speaker 4: guess Byron Buxton's off the trade list. I guess Joe
- 31:28Speaker 4: Ryan is not getting moved. And then Detroit avoids a fire.
- 31:31Speaker 3: So what does that mean?
- 31:32Speaker 4: Just not trading terror Schooble. This must have been written
- 31:34Speaker 4: before they lost three games in a row, because if
- 31:36Speaker 4: I'm them, I'm still thinking about get rid of some people. Yep, Glabor, Glabor, Scooble,
- 31:44Speaker 4: get everything you can And are the Guardians Lane Thomas
- 31:48Speaker 4: away from winning a World Series? Like that's to me
- 31:51Speaker 4: that when you're the Guardians and you win the way
- 31:53Speaker 4: you win, are you player X away from winning the
- 31:58Speaker 4: World Series?
- 31:58Speaker 3: Are you you don't? Or you're just waiting for Jose
- 32:01Speaker 3: Ramirez to come back and then we hope we do good.
- 32:06Speaker 6: Correct. It's not great.
- 32:11Speaker 1: It's not what you like to see, especially when it's
- 32:13Speaker 1: a bold prediction column, not a conservative prediction column.
- 32:19Speaker 3: I need it, I need a bold This is my
- 32:22Speaker 3: argument with the whole small market big market. All the
- 32:25Speaker 3: small markets haven't won blah blah, blah. All these teams say, well,
- 32:29Speaker 3: the playoffs is a crap shoot. Anyway, Wait a minute,
- 32:31Speaker 3: what how can you say? Oh, well, playoffs are a
- 32:34Speaker 3: crap shoot, but no, small market teams can never win.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Small market teams never win. Small market teams never.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Go all in.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Oh wait, the Royals did go all in. They went
- 32:46Speaker 3: out and got Edison Volcz that year, they went out
- 32:48Speaker 3: and got ben Zebers that year. They went out like
- 32:52Speaker 3: teams that go in may have setbacks later, but they
- 32:57Speaker 3: get the ring. So when you're talking bold moves, you
- 33:00Speaker 3: know what the Guardians need. The Guardians need Esak Paratis
- 33:04Speaker 3: if he's out there like you're just talking about. They
- 33:06Speaker 3: need Jeremy Payina. You know why, because it's gonna cost
- 33:09Speaker 3: a lot. But these dudes are gonna hit some dingers
- 33:12Speaker 3: and add some thump to a lineup, and then Jose
- 33:15Speaker 3: Ramirez will be like, what I get. They're pitching around
- 33:19Speaker 3: him to get to me. Now I got guys on base.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Like this is the things that change small markets and
- 33:26Speaker 3: it's not as big of a oh, we're never gonna
- 33:28Speaker 3: win again if we don't win this year. No, you're
- 33:31Speaker 3: still a really good organization that creates players yep.
- 33:35Speaker 1: And for the Guardians it's literally rinse and repeat. They
- 33:38Speaker 1: always need outfield offense, so they've got to figure that
- 33:41Speaker 1: out organizationally, they do so many other things well. Lastly,
- 33:45Speaker 1: National League East bold predictions, Shall we look at the
- 33:48Speaker 1: Braves controllable starter added that should happen, Philly's pushing their
- 33:53Speaker 1: chips in National CJ Abrams gets dealt.
- 33:56Speaker 6: See that would be a huge bad.
- 33:58Speaker 1: Addition for whoever gets He is on a ridiculous heater
- 34:03Speaker 1: in the second half and putting together just an absolutely
- 34:06Speaker 1: dominant season at the plate. Liam Hicks has had a
- 34:08Speaker 1: great year at the plate and they have the Marlins
- 34:11Speaker 1: stealing him as a bold prediction. And then Weaver, Luke
- 34:14Speaker 1: Weaver getting traded away from the Mets, and to me,
- 34:16Speaker 1: aj that's actually a must. I know that he's got
- 34:18Speaker 1: one more year left next year, but I think he
- 34:21Speaker 1: could be one of the best relievers that's acquired. The
- 34:24Speaker 1: Mets need to keep adding prospects. It's a waste to
- 34:26Speaker 1: pay Weaver the rest of the year. Go get other
- 34:28Speaker 1: guys in free agency in the offseason.
- 34:32Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I think Weaver needs to go.
- 34:34Speaker 4: I mean I think he's going to get dealt I
- 34:36Speaker 4: think that that's away from them to save money for
- 34:38Speaker 4: next year, and the Mets aren worried about next year.
- 34:41Speaker 2: C J.
- 34:41Speaker 3: Evers being dealt would be huge.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Phillies always put their chips in so we don't have
- 34:45Speaker 4: to worry about that with Dave Dombrowski.
- 34:46Speaker 3: That's not a bold prediction.
- 34:47Speaker 4: People, more a bolder prediction that they said Phillies do nothing.
- 34:51Speaker 4: That would be a bold prediction because we know Dave
- 34:53Speaker 4: Dombrowski and John Middleton are going to try and then
- 34:55Speaker 4: the Braves need a starting pitcher, whether he's controllable or
- 34:58Speaker 4: if he's a free agent at the end of the year.
- 34:59Speaker 3: I think the brain he just need that guy. So
- 35:01Speaker 3: these aren't that big.
- 35:02Speaker 4: Of these aren't really that bold, other than the fact
- 35:04Speaker 4: that if c. J. Abrams has dealt, that could be
- 35:07Speaker 4: that could that that can be a division wild card
- 35:10Speaker 4: changing move if it's to the right team.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Mets bold prediction Francisco Lindor to New York Yankees. They
- 35:21Speaker 3: need a short stop. There's there's there's a lot going
- 35:25Speaker 3: on there, there's a lot of connection. Stevie Cohen would say,
- 35:29Speaker 3: you know what, I get it. I won the one
- 35:31Speaker 3: Soto deal. Now I'm going to offload this contract onto you, Francisco.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Lindor will get back to his career whatever it is,
- 35:39Speaker 3: one one twenty plus ops plus that he's always had.
- 35:44Speaker 3: He's starting to heat up. He hit I forget how
- 35:46Speaker 3: many diggers he's had in the last few games. And
- 35:49Speaker 3: it would solidify the shortstop position for the Yankees that
- 35:53Speaker 3: can't seem to figure out exactly who to play there
- 35:55Speaker 3: on a consistent basis.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Yeah, Lindor would make it very clear cut, there's your shortstop.
- 36:02Speaker 6: I like it. I like it. I mean it's not
- 36:04Speaker 6: going to happen.
- 36:05Speaker 3: That one's that one's not going to happen.
- 36:07Speaker 4: That's fine, I like it, but I mean it's not
- 36:10Speaker 4: going to happen.
- 36:11Speaker 6: He's playing the games right. Bold predictions, that's the game.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Some of the predictions in this fantasy No, it's not
- 36:18Speaker 1: a fantasy world.
- 36:19Speaker 2: It's bold.
- 36:19Speaker 3: It's not fantasy world.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Though some of the predictions in this article were not
- 36:23Speaker 1: bold enough, some were, some were not
