- 0:00M Burning Glory Podcast two and two, Hucker's big win over the Louisiana Tech
- 0:24Bulldogs. A win is a wind fellas Hunter's arber Nikki here Austin Rose the
- 0:31code of free tag. A win's a win, Yes, but you know,
- 0:40you like to feel good about your wins, and I don't know if
- 0:42that's how I felt. I can't speak for you and Dak, but h
- 0:48that's kind of how I felt. You don't think they're the best team in
- 0:52the Big West after that game? That still might be true after the weekend.
- 0:56Watching the weekend, it's still outside of Minnesota apparent you know, did
- 1:04you guys see that game? They blew it? What was it, thirty
- 1:07five to seven lead over Northwestern? Yeah, something like that. Yeah,
- 1:11so they had a worst weekend. But yeah, I wouldn't be too impressed
- 1:15with Nebraska if I was a Hoscar fan. But I don't know. They
- 1:19they won, That's the main thing. I mean, what do we expect?
- 1:23I guess. I know at the tailgate pod we had some pretty high
- 1:27scores guesses from Dak and Cooper, and like, as I was sitting there
- 1:34watching the game, even when it was seven to seven a half time there
- 1:41wasn't. I wasn't shocked. Our offense was doing what it's done through the
- 1:46first three games and continue to do it, and eventually we broke a couple
- 1:52of big plays there in the second half. Our defense, I think people
- 1:56are a little bit down or saying maybe they weren't as a us. Well,
- 2:00we held them this basically seven points, and then they score a touchdown
- 2:04after the rain delay. So I don't know. I guess as far as
- 2:07what we expect and what we need to do, we just need to win.
- 2:12And here people are now complaining how we win again when guys who just
- 2:15want we want a game. I don't get wrong, I'm not complaining.
- 2:19It's just it didn't feel like I'm not complaining, But I'm also not,
- 2:25I don't know, bragging. I don't know if that's the opposite of complaining.
- 2:28But well, and I think the combination of Northwestern beating Minnesota and putting
- 2:37up whatever it was, thirty four points on him after being down, and
- 2:42then Colorado just getting steamrolled by organ which I think we all thought that might
- 2:46be coming. Maybe Dak didn't think that, but yeah, we all thought
- 2:50at some point it was coming. That doesn't make us feel too good about
- 2:53the opponents we lost to either, So it's hard to know. It's hard
- 2:59to know. Right, we're two and two, and I know we did
- 3:02the Big Expectation Pod last Sunday, but we really are going to see where
- 3:07we sit at in the Big ten West this week. I think it's a
- 3:10game that nobody's expecting to win, really coming here with nothing to lose.
- 3:15But there is such thing as potentially a very bad loss that could be coming
- 3:21if maybe we're not as good and we are bad like some people think we
- 3:25are. I would you guys agree that was the worst defensive performance of the
- 3:34year. Probably, I don't think it was bad. I think their defense
- 3:39just kind of gave up at the end. I kind of agree with that.
- 3:45I don't know how long. Yeah, Colorado is tricky because we just
- 3:51had so many freaking turnovers and the team was probably just you're right, probably
- 3:54done by the fourth quarter. But we did give up thirty eight points and
- 3:59we only help the fourteen points. And like Hunter said, that last touch
- 4:02on came after a rain delay, so they kind of had time to regroup
- 4:05and come with a game plan. And I didn't feel just disregard the stats
- 4:12and everything. From that standpoint, just generally watching I would say, I
- 4:16don't know, Yeah, our defense gave up against Colorado. I didn't think
- 4:20our defense played bad this game. I really don't. I don't. I
- 4:23don't think that there was there was much to be concerned about. We stopped
- 4:26the run. They're a team that's gonna air it out. We knew they
- 4:29were going to do that. I thought we for the most part did well.
- 4:31Now, we didn't get much pressure on the quarterback this game, which
- 4:35I thought was a little bit alarming, but I was definitely the big surprise.
- 4:41Yeah. I didn't come away from that game though, saying, man,
- 4:44our defense maybe isn't as good as they thought there. I still think
- 4:46they're solid. I I don't know the quality of offenses that we played.
- 4:50I have that written down as like, how good are these offenses that we
- 4:55played? We also, I mean, Luke Rhymer didn't most of the game.
- 5:00We had a couple of other defensive guys that they didn't play a ton
- 5:03of snaps that usually do. So you're right, it wasn't an a plus
- 5:10game, But I agree. I felt good about the defensive performance, and
- 5:13I do think outside Colorado is a good offense that we played not a great
- 5:19offense maybe, I mean, I don't know. They definitely they made us
- 5:23look like they're really good. Are they good? Now? I don't know.
- 5:28They made us That's what that made it look like when they played us
- 5:30towards the end. But I I guys, I don't looking at the quality
- 5:35of teams and the I mean, on the flip side of the ball,
- 5:39the defense is that we played. I don't know the defensive we played.
- 5:41We played our anything special either, So I don't know. That's why it's
- 5:46so hard to tell. Now going into the rest of our schedule this week,
- 5:50we're going to get tested. But even Michigan has its flaws. It's
- 5:54not like Michigan's gonna come in as a traditional top five powerhouse. We've played
- 6:00like the Ohio States of the past. So yep, these Big ten West
- 6:03teams are gonna have a lot of the same flaws. They're not gonna be
- 6:06great, so they're there's winnable games still out. They're definitely not saying that
- 6:12we can't win these games because we've played bad opponents. But at the same
- 6:15time, who knows what we've what we've seen so far now looking at some
- 6:20of the other scores, and Loaf Tech was not a good football team,
- 6:25but we beat them like we should and you can say how we should be
- 6:28done. I think people in the first half were moaning and grown in and
- 6:32oh man, but I mean it happens all over the place when you know,
- 6:38good teams are in dog fights in the first half, and then second
- 6:42half better team ends up winning. I thought, I thought Louisian Tech looked
- 6:46a lot better than what I was expecting. For backup quarterback. I didn't.
- 6:49I didn't think he looked that bad. I agree with that. Than
- 6:55quarterback. I didn't think the other one would look good either. No,
- 7:00but the biggest bullshit thing is no big Max Sacks. That's a bummer for
- 7:04you, isn't it, Dad? Oh yeah, that's the best. How
- 7:09many times you have any of us here actually taken up the big Max sax?
- 7:14Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah. I don't think I ever
- 7:17have. I brought thirty minutes sometimes just to get it. What McDonald's are
- 7:25you driving to? It's thirty minutes away the town. The town I live
- 7:28in doesn't even have restaurants, So all right, makes sense? All right,
- 7:36So we've touched on the defense a little bit, and how law Tex
- 7:42offense maybe did some good things. Again, there are spread type offense.
- 7:46We're not gonna see many of those left in our schedule, if any.
- 7:48Maybe Wisconsin is the closest thing we're going to see to that, which is
- 7:51crazy to say. On the other side of the ball, our offense once
- 7:58again in the first half, look the little stagnant, but we got going.
- 8:03Wasn't a product of us just physically beating a team up and then eventually
- 8:09breaking a couple of big runs. I don't know if I'd go that far,
- 8:13but we definitely did get loose, and I know Heindrich had a big
- 8:18run. They got called back in a holding. The option got going,
- 8:24So let's talk about that, because we, I mean, our best run
- 8:28play, our best offensive play, was the option, the speed option,
- 8:31not the not the triple option like Dak wants, but the speed option.
- 8:37We're taking baby steps to get there. How'd that look, Dak? How'd
- 8:41that look? I thought? I always have said that your best your best
- 8:48bet is don't throw the ball at all. You cannot throw the ball.
- 8:54You are air force but worse of passing. Basically, the rest of the
- 8:58season that's each beat. So, speaking of air Force, I saw the
- 9:03stat that we have the lowest pass attempts and power five right now, and
- 9:11I think it was last week. I don't know if it still stands,
- 9:13but we were the lowest pass attempts out of any FBS team, ahead of
- 9:18Army, air Force and Navy. Wow, that's insane. That it's insane.
- 9:28How you got down the whole game to Colorado? How did they not
- 9:31throw the ball more because we didn't want the quarterback throwing the ball anymore?
- 9:37Yeah, three six are numbers enough. I think that's also a product of
- 9:43us turning the ball over so we didn't have the ball as much. And
- 9:46then yeah, our style of play it is. It is running the ball
- 9:50clearly, that is the system that this offense wants to do and rightfully so
- 9:56it fits the scheme of our quarterbacks probably the best I I saw. Also,
- 10:01we are averaging eighteen carries by our quarterbacks, which is only two less
- 10:05than I can't remember which of the academies it was Army or Navy, but
- 10:11only two less by our quarterback carries for game I will say, I mean,
- 10:16I know everyone was kind of down on Anthony Grant after Minnesota. But
- 10:20last year we did like he was one of like the guys that we actually
- 10:22enjoyed watching. It was him and Trey Palmer. We actually felt good about
- 10:26those two people on our offense. And I thought he did pretty well.
- 10:31I mean, again, I don't. I think it's more of a product
- 10:33of the defense we were playing, being a mid tier conference USA defense.
- 10:39But I thought Anthony Grant looked good as far as you know, being the
- 10:43lead back. He was our lead back last year. I thought I did
- 10:46well last year, missing our two you know, Ramier and Gabe. I
- 10:50thought he did well in that role. Yeah, I thought he played well.
- 10:54Why are we down on him? I guess it was a fumble,
- 10:58right that It's there's no all the reason. It wasn't like he wasn't running
- 11:01hard, Which is funny because I don't really remember him having the fumbling issue
- 11:05last year. And I don't know if that's just a product of everything I
- 11:09blamed on the offensive line and everything. It's blank beyond that, it wasn't
- 11:13it was the It was the coaches that came out and said he had a
- 11:16fumbling problem in practice. That was the big like, right, I remember
- 11:20that. I just don't. Yeah, that That's kind of what I was
- 11:24thinking when I was watching the game, was like, why why did I
- 11:26think this guy had a fumbling issue? Like, I know the coaches said
- 11:28that, and then he did it the first game of the year, But
- 11:31I just don't remember that being an industry of lash and I remember really liking
- 11:35him last year. We were just all excited for Gabe Irvy. It's the
- 11:39same thing for Simms. I mean, tell me, tell me the negative
- 11:43things about Jeff sims dak everything that's actually lists the though, because I I
- 11:50seriously, what's he not good at? He's not good decision making, holding
- 11:56on the ball, Okay, and that's honestly, that's the top two.
- 12:01He's really good runner. He's a really good runner. His negative things is
- 12:05all is turning the ball over, right, if he doesn't throw the ball
- 12:07over and I guess decision making slash just like to being able to handle the
- 12:15ball, like not even turning it over, but just executing a play,
- 12:18I guess execution. But as far as his football skills goes, they're very
- 12:22strong. But those things that we're going back to again what gets us a
- 12:26negative perception on these players are the turnovers, the big mess ups that are
- 12:35causing us to lose football caps. Trust me, being a Vikings fan,
- 12:41I can see fumbling issues. Anthony Grant does not have fumbling issues. I'm
- 12:48well seasoned watching fumbling off It's the entire Vikings team with the fumbling issues.
- 12:52I hate them. I hate them so much. Did you see, speaking
- 12:58of the vike, did you see Kirk Cousins blame the crowd noise? Okay,
- 13:03yeah that I'm yelling at my phone. I'm saying, I say,
- 13:07smike the fucking ball and his own crowd. Oh yeah, just just spike
- 13:15the ball and belt We're gonna throw a pick. I'm done with those guys.
- 13:22Okay, back to the option in Harbord and I guess a little bit
- 13:26of Sims talk here. Here's here's the thing with Harvard. Harborg has brought
- 13:31us. The best word that I've heard someone say so far is some sort
- 13:35of stability on offense. That is not meaning that he is going to be
- 13:41able to make some of the plays that I think Jeff Simms could make it
- 13:45quarterback, which is why I think we still need to somehow find a way
- 13:50to get Jeff Simms going down the right path because I think he even I
- 13:54would say even that play that since the one snap Sims came in and he
- 13:58almost got sacked, but I think he got back to the yard the line.
- 14:05Yeah, I mean it was like play which could have been his fault
- 14:09to begin with. I mean it's probably it could have been. But when
- 14:13I was watching that he was scrambling, I was like, Harbor probably would
- 14:16have gotten sacked for five yards on this one. Jeff Simms was so much
- 14:20quicker than Harvard. Not the Harbor slow, but he does much more of
- 14:24a straight speed. Sims was able to like he was juking people around and
- 14:26got back to the line. Again, it might have been broken because of
- 14:28him, but I was like, there is a difference there, Like you
- 14:31could see the difference he came in for one play. Yes, it's all
- 14:41what you want out of a runner too, because some people would want you
- 14:43want the straight line runner versus the the shifty, shifty guy. But I
- 14:50also don't know that Simms is actually like when I think a side stepping shifty
- 14:54runner, I think of how Adrian and Taylor ran, which shout out to
- 14:58both of them. They were on the sidelines this game, like the way
- 15:01those two ran were very much up and down. I thought Sim's running against
- 15:07Minnesota was more so downhill. Put my shoulder down, get extra yardage against
- 15:13Minnesota. So right now, I think Harburg until he loses the job,
- 15:24I think it's kind of right now his job to lose to where he's a
- 15:28stable option. He's not going to be able to make plays like Sim's potentially
- 15:33could, but he provides us with that sure hand. Until he does,
- 15:37he won't anymore or can't anymore. And I'm saying that whereas the two opponents
- 15:43that Harborg went against guys. I get it, Northwest or Minnesota and Colorado
- 15:50aren't great teams either, but they're better than Northern Illinois and Luis. And
- 15:54so when we started playing these big ten West teams, I'm not going to
- 15:58be surprised if Harburg have some issues too along the way. The good news
- 16:04is now we have a second option to kind of all right, like,
- 16:07doesn't work here, we can go back here. There is not that they're
- 16:10that much different to where we're losing a bunch by subbing one out for the
- 16:15other. Now, Dak you could maybe argue that point, but I'm saying
- 16:21if Harvard starts turning it over. We're gonna have two turnover prown quarterbacks.
- 16:26Now hopefully he doesn't at all. But Jeff Simms athletic ability has gives us
- 16:33the ability to maybe win games using that playmaking capability. Whereas Harbord and we
- 16:41kind of saw what he's got. He's got the downhill run. He maybe
- 16:44has a little bit of speed once he gets going, but it's not like
- 16:48he's going to be an elite playmaker out there. But maybe we don't need
- 16:52that. Maybe we don't all right, Yeah, Harbord's deep throw is god
- 17:00aful. That's on one tap of the game. He cannot throw the ball
- 17:03deep. You you aren't gonna get play a pass over thirty yards with him
- 17:07at quarterback. But like you said, I would just run option the rest
- 17:12of the year. Those two at quarterback every single play. Don't throw the
- 17:18ball, And that is a folk strategy. I like it. What's funny
- 17:27is that we ran the option probably I don't know, say, six to
- 17:33eight times this game, and I thought it looked it looked unstoppable. Well
- 17:37it was, but it really wasn't the option, right, it was.
- 17:41It was Harberg just taking off and running and they never made him pitch at
- 17:44one time. Yeah, I think that was a product two of them probably
- 17:48not having prepared for it as much because we really haven't shown it. If
- 17:51Michigan's come into town, you bet your ass the first time Harberg pops out
- 17:56there that the doctor is coming straight down on hill and just popping it as
- 18:00hard as he can. And we will see what the pitch game looks like
- 18:04because we've seen that before. How potentially there's turnovers that are involved in that
- 18:10as well. So I fully anticipate to see that by Michigan. Another thing
- 18:15that Michigan is going to do because Lawtech did it, and this was very
- 18:19noticeable at the game. They don't give a shit about us throwing a deep
- 18:26ball. Like Dak said, he isn't no good Harbor can throw it.
- 18:29I don't know that we have a receiver that could take off. We keep
- 18:32saying that maybe Malachi Coleman can or Tommy Hill can, but we we still
- 18:37can't do it. So wow, our deep threat, he's your non traditional
- 18:45deep dus. You're throwing up and go up and get it, not the
- 18:48guy that can take off the field. And people you know, are saying,
- 18:51maybe we need to we need to try one of those. Well,
- 18:55maybe we just can't. We tried one to open the game, which didn't
- 18:57like that play call whatever, but we tried to open the game. Get
- 19:02open. Was that deep shot the camp I think to open the game.
- 19:10I think we had Malachi and Tommy Hill both out there. I think,
- 19:12will you send them deep? And and I think Kemp had one later on
- 19:18where he like ran into a safety or something like that when he was trying
- 19:21to go. So it's a combination of both. But defenses, we we
- 19:25thought this might happen after the Minnesota game. Defenses are not until we prove
- 19:30that we can complete one or have it looked reasonable to where it could be
- 19:34a threat. They aren't gonna care. In Louisi, gonna tech guys,
- 19:38they did not give a shit and we didn't even try, which maybe we
- 19:41didn't need to, and because we were able to physically just run it.
- 19:45But you do that against any of these Big ten last teams, especially Michigan
- 19:49on Saturday, we are I mean it could look ugly for a while where
- 19:55if we can't run the ball because they're gonna have eight or nine guys in
- 19:56the box every single play, all Right, Yeah, you're gonna have to
- 20:04take a deep shot every now and then just to keep the defense is honest,
- 20:08Who cares you over throw up by fifty yards if you complete one of
- 20:11them. You just gotta make defense play a little bit more, honest.
- 20:15You can't have the box deck like that all game long. You can if
- 20:22you're confident there, it's just gonna be a It's like we'll stack the box,
- 20:26they'll take a deep shot and it's gonna be second and ten because I
- 20:30know they're not gonna be able to complete. They can pass it to a
- 20:33wide open guy. I mean even the Thomas fight only touchdown. Thomas was
- 20:37wide open and he was almost overthrown. Luckily he's six foot six and can
- 20:41jump because he barely caught the ball. Yeah. Now, I mean that
- 20:45was a crossing route, not even like just not even down the field.
- 20:52Yeah, I know. So that whole point being said, we will see
- 20:56if we can get creative with deep passing game. I I'm not saying we
- 21:03are going to need to do it, but there's gonna come a point where
- 21:07our run game is just gonna get completely stopped. And I think even against
- 21:11Louisiana Tech, there were we weren't getting the four or five six yard pushes
- 21:15like we were hoping we would against a team like that. And so when
- 21:18we get to some of these big ten games, let's see what our next
- 21:22option is when it comes to running the ball. And I have a really
- 21:26bold take, guys, I wrote down bold take and all caps. This
- 21:30is gonna. I worded it. I worded it very carefully too. You
- 21:37get misinterpreted we miss Scott Frost creativity. I agree I did. That's all.
- 21:47I'm just gonna say creativity. I'm not saying we missed this offense.
- 21:51I don't not saying we missed anything more than just his creativity. You may
- 21:57you missed not having Scott's adderfield as you're operasive coordinator. That could also be
- 22:03true. Is that his named Scott Marcus, Scott sadderfield. I don't know
- 22:14where he's at now. I thought I think he was at Louisville for a
- 22:15while head coach, but Scott Marcus. Either way, this guy sucks all.
- 22:22We're stuck with him for at least two years. He and some of
- 22:26the comments in the paper are like comments around the not complexity. But we're
- 22:34running the option. We're running a pro style. Then we're running reads and
- 22:38so they're making it seem like it's complicated, but it's not like the scheming
- 22:45of it is very complicated. It's just we're running a bunch of different stuff.
- 22:48And I guess, yeah, you go back to play calling and all
- 22:52of that. You can put that all on the offensive coordinator. I feel
- 22:55like every offensive coordinator Nebraska's has since I can remember, has gotten just slay.
- 23:00And because the play calling sucks, now we also he's not working with
- 23:06a lot. I'm not saying we're you know, I don't want to shit
- 23:08talk every player, but we have offensive line issues. Our receivers aren't necessarily
- 23:15tall or fast or great receivers, and our quarterback can't throw. That's pretty
- 23:18freaking tough to design an office that can function. When you can't run the
- 23:23ball because your offensive line is not great, you can't pass the ball because
- 23:27your quarterback is not great, and your receivers aren't great, your OC is
- 23:33probably not gonna look great. And then it comes down to and we go
- 23:37down this rabbit hole again, the recruiting and bringing in the recruits that fit
- 23:41your style, fit your system, on what you're trying to do. We
- 23:45went down that rabbit hole a ton with Scott FROs. I mean, here
- 23:49we are with I think what we know is our identity of It's your classic
- 23:55big den West offense. Nothing flashy, pound the pound the rock, get
- 24:02some play actions. I think that's what we're trying to do. I think,
- 24:06yeah, we want a pro style quarterback. It was also big and
- 24:11can be mobile, So yeah, I wants to hand their ball off and
- 24:15then get hit the shots downfield that we need to so that style right,
- 24:22and we've gone. I mean everybody, all I hear is all the time,
- 24:26need to get more creative or maybe the other word is it's not complex
- 24:30enough, or we need to make it more simple. Right, those words
- 24:33are a little bit different to me. It needs to be creative yet simple
- 24:37for these quarterbacks. We can't make it very complex, Scott. For us
- 24:41offense, we're very complex. Right. They were complicated and they weren't because
- 24:48they were complicated at times, and then they just epically failed most of the
- 24:52time because they were so complicated. And we say here talking about how we
- 24:56need to simplify it. Well, now we have a very simple I would
- 24:59say offense that I guess we're running different things, but it lacks I think
- 25:04the ability to be creative and how we scheme guys to get open, because
- 25:07like you said, we don't have the athletes to maybe get open, so
- 25:11we have to be creative and how to do that and things that I'm just
- 25:15that come to my mind with Frost that he did were simple things like like
- 25:18crossing routes and not saying like pick plays, which are illegal, but teams
- 25:22do them all the time. Like different ways to just manipulate the defense to
- 25:29get your playmakers the ball, your Fidoni's, your Billy Kemps, your Marcus
- 25:33Washington's, find a way if we can get them open by scheming instead of
- 25:38saying, hey, you gotta go beat this guy one on one, good
- 25:41luck, because I don't think we can do that. So now it's time
- 25:44to actually put on our thinking caps a little bit. And that's where we
- 25:48are going to be challenged here to find a way to get open to be
- 25:52able to have a otherwise it will and I think we're gonna try it guys
- 25:55against Michigan. We will try to just pound the rock. We're going to
- 25:57try it and maybe it'll work. I hope they got it does. But
- 26:02early on it's going to be run, run, run, run, run
- 26:04right at him, and let's see if we can get the halftime within a
- 26:07one score game and then throw the cards out second half, see if we
- 26:11can win. That's gonna be the game plan. But we are going to
- 26:14have to at some point in the year find a way to be creative enough
- 26:18to score more than ten points a game. Maybe they they weren't showing everything
- 26:26these last two games either, just trying to be vanilla about it and just
- 26:32get out there two wins and then maybe they'll throw it all on the table
- 26:34next week its Michigan. That's exactly why I did the fake field goal.
- 26:40We don't want to show anything. Call one bleef flicker Saturday. I like
- 26:45that. I like the fleef flicker thought it works every time and no one
- 26:49runs it. I just have memories of Colorado running it at Colorado back in
- 26:56twenty eighteen on us. Yeah that changed the game. H Yeah, Dad,
- 27:03I hope, I mean, I really hope you're right. But at
- 27:06the same time, I don't think we have the ability anymore to just say,
- 27:11yeah, we can save stuff for games that matter, because we're gonna
- 27:15win these games no matter what. I don't think we're there. And yeah,
- 27:18we ran the fake field goal, which moving to that, that was
- 27:22awesome. I mean that was just sweet. Yeah, it was sweet,
- 27:26almost a touchdown. You could see the green grass. Keep him honest,
- 27:32you gotta keep the defense honest. Speaking of kicking, are we concerned about
- 27:37Albano? Yeah, he did hit the net. That was a really bad
- 27:47kick. I agree with that didn't even have the distance either, It was
- 27:52off by mind. Oh yeah, he's got the leg. All of his
- 27:55kicks, he's easily had the leg. So I guess that's my my can.
- 28:00I'm concerned for this season, but I'm not concerned going forward, if
- 28:03that makes any sense. I mean, he's a true freshman. We can
- 28:08have Timmy bleak Road is on the roster and he supposed to be good.
- 28:18He just he needs it, needs find a way to just get his confidence
- 28:22going. I think a little bit as a freshman. And yep, I
- 28:25mean I think the one on Saturday would have been a great one to make
- 28:29and and us for us, and I'm just to say, okay, like
- 28:32we can go out and we can make it. I think it was a
- 28:33forty I believe. Yeah, we'll see our special teams is not great.
- 28:44I did not feel great oft our special teams. Like your Potter sucks.
- 28:49I don't know if i'd say people sucks because he does have the Buccini bombs.
- 28:56He's still there were a couple of he's very There was a couple times
- 28:59where it definitely you could tell they went to the wrong side and they took
- 29:03one to the house called back, they got called back. Luckily. It
- 29:10are special teams. So by playing this style right and what we're trying to
- 29:15do your special teams, it has to be sharp. Like I'm not saying
- 29:21it has to get turnovers and do that, but it has to at least
- 29:25be sharp and clean. And right now, it's not right. It's been
- 29:30very choppy. We fumbled the kicker turn Tommy Hill did, but luckily we
- 29:34recovered it. Like little things like that are maybe not as glaring in games
- 29:41like this because we still come out with the win. But you lose this
- 29:42game and all of those things are magnified, like yeah, times ten.
- 29:48And I'm not talking just special teams. There are so many other little things
- 29:52that we would still consider sloppy or just not clean or sharp, and that's
- 30:00what I think we want to get to eventually. But things we saw in
- 30:03the spring game that have continued on through four games now, just little things
- 30:07like that that kicker turn it's a couple of little hole holdings. Yeah,
- 30:14Louisiane tech dropped an interception by Harbor that throw. Michigan's not dropping that thing.
- 30:18We have miss blocks still up front. Turner Corker and I saw had
- 30:22a zero on the PFF grade for pass blocking. A zero. That's so
- 30:29bad. How starting? I don't know. That's I don't know. It's
- 30:38just so many of these little choppy things that you don't notice someone you win
- 30:44a game like this, but against Michigan, Michigan's gonna capitalize on them,
- 30:48even these big ten West teams, they're going to at least do something with
- 30:52it, and we're gonna lose the game, and then it's gonna look like,
- 30:55yep, we beat ourselves a game. So we have to clean these
- 30:59things up. And it's they're small things, they're not well. I guess
- 31:04not catching a snap is pretty big. But if you can't clean those up,
- 31:11we maybe won't get to six wins this year, but hopefully we can.
- 31:18So he didn't I throw a single bit block that whole game. Pass
- 31:22protection apparently not. Well, that's that's impressive. Now. On the bright
- 31:29side, from what I saw, all of our other linemen run blocking and
- 31:33pass blocking had it very I mean, averaged above average games. Like no
- 31:37one stood out, but they all did their job. It was just Quirking
- 31:41had a really bad day. And I mean some of those other guys has
- 31:45seen those days, for sure, Pipers seeing those days, Ben Hearts had
- 31:48those days, but it was quirk has been pretty consistently on that list.
- 31:55Yeah, all right, let's move on here. We want to talk a
- 32:00little bit about the national college football landscape a little bit here, and then
- 32:07we'll preview Michigan on Wednesday like we normally do so. Right now, we
- 32:14are third of the way through the year. Most teams have played four games.
- 32:21Generally speaking, I think that there aren't many powerhouses this year, just
- 32:28just teams at the top that are like they're making the playoff. For sure,
- 32:32I agree, it's more than any other year that we've had since the
- 32:37playoff has been around. Maybe Georgia, that's probably, That's what I was
- 32:43just WoT to say, Maybe Georgia, and that's a big maybe they were
- 32:46in fourteen three and a half to South Carolina, So I don't know if
- 32:50they're that dominant either. So what we're gonna do, We're gonna go through
- 32:54each of us, gonna give one team that's been the most impressive, the
- 32:59one team that's been your biggest disappointment, and then one team that you called
- 33:04your shot on earlier in the year or at the beginning of the year,
- 33:07saying you knew how this was gonna go, and here they are where they're
- 33:10at. So, Austin, I'll let you start. Who's been your most
- 33:15impressive team so far? Most impressive team? Gosh, I probably Washington,
- 33:23to be honest. Oh did I steal yours? Dack? I have another
- 33:29one, Yeah, Michael Pennix. Michael Pennox looks really good. Like if
- 33:35they win the Pack twelve, I am not surprised at all. Really,
- 33:37I could go with any Pac twelve team. Oregon, Washington State, go
- 33:42Kogs, Beaver State, Oregon State, you know, looked a little bit
- 33:46shaky. USC hasn't looked as great. But yeah, definitely Washington. I
- 33:51think Washington, like their offense looks for real that you could be pretty competitive.
- 33:55It's tough to say, you know, if you put them up against
- 33:59Georgia. How would they fair? But they look really freaking good. The
- 34:02defense looks really good too. The defense, Yeah, that's mine too.
- 34:10I actually thought that was pretty easy. I went through about every top twenty
- 34:15five, Top twenty team, and every team's had some clause, like a
- 34:20hiccup here there in a game. Washington really hasn't yet. They've looked very
- 34:23impressive both sides of the ball, so I'm sticking with them. How about
- 34:29Kansas the Jayhawks? They look good and they're gonna beat Texas this week and
- 34:34mark that down. But they're gonna beat Texas. Yep, they're beating them.
- 34:42Yeah, they cracked the top twenty five here this week too. I
- 34:45don't know where that game's at, but they're gonna go down there. I
- 34:47think it might mean Texas they're gonna beat him this week. But I'm impressed
- 34:51with Jayleen Daniels that his name is. Yeah, I'm really impressed with him.
- 34:55They don't have a defense, but no one does big twelves, so
- 34:59that doesn't matter. But their offense is really impressive. Biggest disappointment Austin for
- 35:07me, it's obviously LSU. I thought LSU is gonna be basically Georgia flash,
- 35:13they're not not George. I shouldn't say I don't think they're gonna be
- 35:15that dominant, but I I thought they were gonna be like pushing Georgia for
- 35:22winning the SEC, and they just have not looked that dominant. Dak I
- 35:32had Michigan State as mine. I think that's for a whole different reason.
- 35:44Yeah, well, yeah, you're right. Expectations actual it's it's pretty bleak
- 35:50in Michigan State. I don't see o' gonna win another game the rest of
- 35:53the year. They looked terrible. I mean, I hope you're right,
- 35:57because that means we're getting another one. Oh yeah, you you'll beat them.
- 36:00I don't think those you think your offense is bad? That is that's
- 36:04a dumpster fuyer. I think honestly, Michigan State obviously not thrilled with what
- 36:10happened, but they're kind of happy that they can get rid of Milt Tucker
- 36:14on the eight year deal for cause. I don't think anyone. I think
- 36:19they're pretty quick to pull that trigger. Yeah, mine's Alabama. I think
- 36:24that's a pretty common answer here. Just haven't looked great. They did end
- 36:30up beating Old Miss this week and pulled away, but it was a battle
- 36:34for most of the game, obviously losing. Texas barely beat in South Florida.
- 36:37We're used to the Alabama of old. They're not this year as of
- 36:42right now. But I still think they hold their own destiny. They hold
- 36:45their own destiny to go to the playoffs. Still, you win out,
- 36:47you're in, all right, Well, that will do it here. We
- 36:52will be back on Wednesday to preview the Michigan Wolverines. Go Big Red.
- 36:58I love that burnt orange
