- 0:00Parashat Vayiki Madrid rubber sheer number one of the week.
- 0:06The big question to answer for Parashat Vayiki, at least at the
- 0:09At the beginning isn't a particular word, but it's a
- 0:12nuance that you find if you've ever looked at a safe Vitara.
- 0:16Between the end of 1 sedra and the beginning of the next.
- 0:19There's always a little gap, a space by at least nine letters
- 0:25normally. Now in the case of parachute
- 0:28Vayuhi, Vayu gash ends wherever it ends in the column, and then
- 0:32Vayuhi begins straight away. And that's something that's
- 0:35totally unusual. And the Madras, before even
- 0:38looking at the words themselves, wants to look at why.
- 0:42Why the strange phenomena when it comes to the etcetera of
- 0:45Vayuhi, Obviously the last parasher in the Book of
- 0:48Borishet. So let's begin.
- 0:50Lama Parasherdus Duma Why of all the Torah portions in the whole
- 0:54Torah, is this 1 closed, boxed in by the previous parish
- 1:00without the gap? Ella Kevan Shiniftai Yaakov Once
- 1:05our forefather Yaakov passed away, the Egyptian slavery began
- 1:11against our people. All right, now what does that
- 1:14mean? Because he doesn't pass away in
- 1:17the very first sentence, actually it describes his life
- 1:20and describes him living in Egypt and describes him meeting
- 1:23Youssef and the grandchildren and how incredible that was for
- 1:26him. So what is the Madrid doing?
- 1:29Because it's clearly not a statement that's true of the
- 1:31opening paragraph at all, that Yaakov passed away.
- 1:34He ends up blessing the children.
- 1:36He gives prophecies to the future that eventually in the in
- 1:39the short parisher, he passes away.
- 1:41So what is actually being said in this comment?
- 1:45We can take it even further because the slavery didn't begin
- 1:49with the death of Yaakov. Youssef ruled in Egypt,
- 1:53according to our sources, for 54 years after Yaakov died, and so
- 2:01completely unlikely that his Mishbaka, his family were going
- 2:05to be enslaved by the Egyptians if their brother is the big
- 2:09boss. And we have other sources that
- 2:12suggest that the slavery didn't start until the very last child
- 2:17of Yaakov passed away. But before we try to answer any
- 2:22of these questions, we have to finish the Medras.
- 2:24Dvaraka, another Dvaraka, another interpretation to why
- 2:27the etcetera is boxed in without the usual gap.
- 2:31Lamai stuma Mpinesha Pikesh Yaakov, Avinu de Galotte takets
- 2:36Vinistam Mimenu Yaakov wanted to reveal the end.
- 2:40How everything was going to come to a conclusion, but Mr. It was
- 2:47closed. It was concealed like the
- 2:50parisher is concealed. And if you are the one who is
- 2:54leaning on Shabbat, you've got to be able to locate the word
- 2:57via he in the middle of the sentence to know exactly where
- 3:01this parisher starts. It's almost a hidden concealed
- 3:04beginning to the parisher. And the third interpretation,
- 3:08Davar Akhar, another interpretation, Lamahi stuma.
- 3:12Why is it closed? Mipnay Shah satam mimeno colt
- 3:16Sarah Shabarolam. Because during Yaakov's time in
- 3:21Mitzrayim in Egypt, Hashem closed off from him all the
- 3:26troubles in the world after the most horrendous life.
- 3:33I mean, Yaakov has had a horrendous life, which needs to
- 3:36remind us that doesn't matter how holy and pious you are, how
- 3:40connected to God you are, it doesn't mean that you're going
- 3:43to live a charmed life. OK.
- 3:46But when he was in Mitzrayim, Yaakov experienced only
- 3:48tranquility and quiet. We can use the word nachos from
- 3:52the family. He was able to do his thing with
- 3:55Hashem live without any challenges at all.
- 4:01So this portion is closed in order to hint something positive
- 4:05rather than negative. So it's interesting we have a
- 4:08negative comment to start off the the first interpretation,
- 4:12then we have another -1 and finally followed by a positive
- 4:17interpretation. So the closeness will say he was
- 4:20closed in, in his world of serenity.
- 4:23To find out some answers and to make some sense of this opening
- 4:26midrashic comment on this week's Parisha, please come back
- 4:30tomorrow. Thank you.
- 4:32Have a wonderful day.
