- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It's a beautiful morning here. That's almost famous podcast. I
- 0:11Speaker 2: am currently hosting this show alone. We had a great
- 0:14Speaker 2: night last night at the Great Young concert. A lot
- 0:16Speaker 2: of fun stayed up late at the bar, the whole team,
- 0:18Speaker 2: did the staff, all everybody out here visiting us. My
- 0:21Speaker 2: co host has yet to awaken, so we did have
- 0:26Speaker 2: a great night. She's just still sleeping. But we do
- 0:28Speaker 2: have Clear and Ryan here with us this morning. Super
- 0:31Speaker 2: pumped to have both of you. Thanks for sitting down.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Excited to be here with you.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely, thank you so much.
- 0:37Speaker 2: So I got to hear a little bit of your
- 0:39Speaker 2: story last night. I want to start with just maybe
- 0:43Speaker 2: getting some clarity. How did the two of you meet?
- 0:46Speaker 4: Oh?
- 0:47Speaker 5: I feel like we said this fourteen times last night,
- 0:49Speaker 5: but that's all right. It couldn't be any more exciting
- 0:52Speaker 5: than just sliding in the DMS. Ryan slid in the
- 0:54Speaker 5: DMS and I guess just went from there.
- 0:58Speaker 2: So Ryan, I was I was talking to you because
- 1:01Speaker 2: you did slide into the DMS. That's what I did.
- 1:03Speaker 2: We both found love that way. So going back, why
- 1:07Speaker 2: did you reach out to Clear like how did you
- 1:10Speaker 2: know of her? What interested you in her? So I'd
- 1:14Speaker 2: never seen any of the Bessor or.
- 1:20Speaker 6: Besser Atte shows, and it was either Hulu or an
- 1:24Speaker 6: ad reading some sort of news article. And I came
- 1:30Speaker 6: across a promo for her show in twenty twenty, and
- 1:34Speaker 6: I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world.
- 1:39Speaker 4: And so I.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Was going through a split with my ex wife during
- 1:51Speaker 6: that time and or that summer, and then it took
- 1:57Speaker 6: me about seven months to get.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Up the current to reach out to her.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Claire, when you hear that that he thought you were
- 2:05Speaker 2: the most beautiful woman in the world, you just smiled,
- 2:08Speaker 2: You got so you got giddy, and we were talking
- 2:10Speaker 2: about it. You know, we've been able to know each
- 2:13Speaker 2: other really since the start of this show six and
- 2:17Speaker 2: a half years ago, so we've seen a lot of
- 2:18Speaker 2: each other's lives progress.
- 2:20Speaker 4: You just seem super super happy right now.
- 2:24Speaker 5: I am, thank you, I am, And it's.
- 2:28Speaker 3: My phone ringing, sorry, I am.
- 2:31Speaker 5: I am so much And it always makes me feel
- 2:35Speaker 5: so good, Like when I hear him talk to you
- 2:37Speaker 5: about it. This is stuff that he told me since
- 2:40Speaker 5: the beginning, and it's stuff that he tells me every
- 2:43Speaker 5: single day still and it still makes me smile like this.
- 2:46Speaker 5: So it's whether people around, whether people aren't around, like
- 2:49Speaker 5: this is how he treats me, and this is how
- 2:50Speaker 5: he talks to me always, and it just is like
- 2:54Speaker 5: forever makes my heart smile always.
- 2:57Speaker 4: You know, Chris Harrison is with us right now now.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And I remember even before I met you, when I
- 3:03Speaker 2: first got onto the show, you had just always stayed
- 3:07Speaker 2: relatively friendly with a lot of the people that were
- 3:09Speaker 2: working on the show, and so they were always rooting
- 3:11Speaker 2: for you or like, you know, they get a text
- 3:14Speaker 2: from you and they would just talk about it openly,
- 3:17Speaker 2: and it felt like you were close with all them.
- 3:19Speaker 2: They're all like, we're your biggest fans. They were rooting
- 3:22Speaker 2: for you to find love. Yeah, and so you went
- 3:24Speaker 2: on these shows. You just you came off of the show,
- 3:27Speaker 2: you did your best to try to find love outside
- 3:30Speaker 2: of the show, and then back onto the show.
- 3:31Speaker 4: And now like.
- 3:33Speaker 2: That story has closed right of you trying to find love,
- 3:38Speaker 2: you found it.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 3:40Speaker 2: What what does it feel like to you now, because
- 3:42Speaker 2: for a while we were you know, we've all been
- 3:44Speaker 2: in a place where we didn't know if any of
- 3:46Speaker 2: us if it would happen to for any of us.
- 3:48Speaker 4: But now you know you have it.
- 3:50Speaker 5: That's what love is, though it's it's having I guess,
- 3:53Speaker 5: the courage to keep trying and keep trying and keep trying.
- 3:57Speaker 5: And nobody says it works out the first time, like
- 4:00Speaker 5: it rarely does it. I mean, those people are so lucky.
- 4:03Speaker 5: How does that go? But that's what love is, whether
- 4:07Speaker 5: it's two times or over and over and over again.
- 4:09Speaker 5: However you try to find somebody, whether it be in
- 4:13Speaker 5: the casual environment, you don't give up after the first time.
- 4:16Speaker 5: And I think, to me, I knew it was something
- 4:19Speaker 5: that I wanted, was marriage, and I wanted relationship, and
- 4:23Speaker 5: I wouldn't let I wouldn't let that jade me or
- 4:26Speaker 5: get the best of me or say, oh I tried
- 4:28Speaker 5: one time.
- 4:29Speaker 3: That was my chance in trying, even if it was
- 4:31Speaker 3: on a show.
- 4:32Speaker 5: To me, it was like, I'll keep trying until I
- 4:35Speaker 5: get what I want and get the end result of
- 4:38Speaker 5: what I want, of the feeling of what I want.
- 4:40Speaker 3: And I did.
- 4:41Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Well, tell me about your wedding. I didn't get to
- 4:45Speaker 2: hear a lot about this. You guys did get married.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Was it like, what was anybody there joining you watching
- 4:52Speaker 2: how did it all play out?
- 4:53Speaker 5: So we had these original plans of having two weddings.
- 4:59Speaker 5: I wanted one that we wanted to have in Mexico.
- 5:02Speaker 5: I wanted this big, great we found this gorgeous spot.
- 5:05Speaker 5: I wanted this huge celebration of a wedding of what
- 5:07Speaker 5: the traditional wedding I guess is. And then I knew
- 5:11Speaker 5: because my mom is in hospice, that she wouldn't be
- 5:13Speaker 5: able to fly down to Mexico. She can barely even
- 5:16Speaker 5: get in a car at this point. And so I
- 5:19Speaker 5: was like, well, I want to have a little mini celebration,
- 5:21Speaker 5: especially for my mom that she can witness and be
- 5:24Speaker 5: there and be a part of, and then do the
- 5:26Speaker 5: Mexico wedding. So we planned that and we were like, okay,
- 5:31Speaker 5: let's just get the first wedding out of the way.
- 5:33Speaker 5: And my mom ended up getting a little bit sicker
- 5:36Speaker 5: at that time. It right at the end of January,
- 5:38Speaker 5: and so right and I were like, let's do it now,
- 5:41Speaker 5: let's do the wedding, let's have it.
- 5:42Speaker 3: We know we're getting married. Let's just have a mini celebration.
- 5:45Speaker 5: And it was his daughter's, his parents, two of my friends,
- 5:49Speaker 5: and then it was going to be my mom there
- 5:51Speaker 5: and my mom. It's hard to explain, but she gets
- 5:54Speaker 5: overwhelmed easily.
- 5:56Speaker 3: So good morning, Ashley.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Ashley, are you guys actually just walked in.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I said, are you guys coming?
- 6:13Speaker 7: Okay, So there's other people that we were like, you.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Know, just waiting, just waiting on them.
- 6:18Speaker 2: We're gonna pause. He actually did wake up and make
- 6:21Speaker 2: it to the podcast this morning.
- 6:23Speaker 7: You guys, it's not thirty okay, it's not like you're
- 6:26Speaker 7: making it like it's noon.
- 6:28Speaker 8: Also, yeah, because I tell you that I wake up
- 6:34Speaker 8: late often, I feel, guys, I feel unprofessional, especially.
- 6:41Speaker 9: Since I was like, you, you know, I always set
- 6:44Speaker 9: the alarm, and then for some reason, I was like,
- 6:46Speaker 9: you're on Pacific time. I woke up at seven and
- 6:49Speaker 9: like it did six and we had the weird light thing,
- 6:52Speaker 9: and then I was like, you don't have to sell
- 6:53Speaker 9: your I don't know why I was defensive about setting
- 6:55Speaker 9: my alarm.
- 6:56Speaker 7: I don't want actually, don't open up your phone and
- 6:59Speaker 7: just tall. I don't know. I think I was like
- 7:02Speaker 7: trying to play gay with myself.
- 7:03Speaker 4: And then Hannah called me it was the clock. It
- 7:05Speaker 4: was nine five, and shut.
- 7:08Speaker 5: I feel like you get a haul pass though, because
- 7:10Speaker 5: you wake up every day through your baby. Well, I
- 7:12Speaker 5: know the time where you're like, oh, I don't have
- 7:14Speaker 5: them with me right now, Like we.
- 7:15Speaker 7: Want to be like mom that blames everything on the baby.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Now, like I deserve it.
- 7:20Speaker 4: I'd be here at least you're here, though, Thank you?
- 7:24Speaker 7: Did I miss like five minutes, ten minutes, I don't know, seven,
- 7:30Speaker 7: seven minutes.
- 7:31Speaker 2: So we were just talking about their wedding and how
- 7:35Speaker 2: the two of you really wanted your mom to to
- 7:38Speaker 2: experience it, but she couldn't get to Mexico, and so
- 7:41Speaker 2: you would plan something here closer.
- 7:45Speaker 5: So he planned something closer, and it was we had
- 7:47Speaker 5: just planned a tiny, little intimate one because she gets
- 7:50Speaker 5: super overwhelmed easily with more than a couple people, so
- 7:54Speaker 5: it gets very confusing with her because she has dementia.
- 7:56Speaker 5: So it just was his family, my family, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 5: my two best friends, and we planned this little thing
- 8:06Speaker 5: and we planned it out in this little garden at
- 8:09Speaker 5: the state Capitol and that's where we had our first kiss.
- 8:12Speaker 3: So we're like, oh, it'll be cute to have it.
- 8:13Speaker 5: There, and it was just a beautiful thing, and we
- 8:16Speaker 5: ended up having this mini little wedding. My mom and
- 8:18Speaker 5: actually ended up getting really really sick and so she
- 8:21Speaker 5: couldn't even leave her home, and so we had the
- 8:25Speaker 5: mini celebration anyway, and then afterwards we went to in
- 8:28Speaker 5: and out Burger and then went to visit her and
- 8:31Speaker 5: celebrated with her, and it was the most perfect what
- 8:35Speaker 5: we left her. And I was like, that's everything I
- 8:37Speaker 5: ever wanted out of a wedding. To feel the way
- 8:40Speaker 5: I feel, to enjoy it, and to be able.
- 8:42Speaker 3: To share that with my mom. It was like the
- 8:45Speaker 3: most special thing.
- 8:46Speaker 5: And so I was like, we can have a party
- 8:49Speaker 5: another time, in like a reception another time, but that
- 8:53Speaker 5: was everything I wanted and need it out of a wedding.
- 8:55Speaker 5: So we kind of were like, let's just scratch the
- 8:56Speaker 5: second one because this is we have other more important
- 8:59Speaker 5: things I guess going on right now.
- 9:00Speaker 3: And that was perfect.
- 9:01Speaker 7: Listen, if you think it's perfect, scratch the second one,
- 9:05Speaker 7: because you don't want to have any memory that's not perfect.
- 9:07Speaker 5: Yeah, it just to me weddings and I love going
- 9:11Speaker 5: to them. I think they're beautiful. I love dancing, I
- 9:14Speaker 5: love enjoying them. Everything about him is amazing. I don't
- 9:18Speaker 5: think planning them is exciting. It's really extremely stressful even
- 9:23Speaker 5: thinking about planning. It was the second one was stressful
- 9:26Speaker 5: to me, to us and by nature. Ryan is an
- 9:29Speaker 5: event planner, so he was like, I got this, and
- 9:31Speaker 5: he planned the first one.
- 9:33Speaker 3: He got the car, he got I mean, the location.
- 9:35Speaker 5: I mean, he secured everything, and it was it was
- 9:39Speaker 5: came in clutch because I was kind of paralyzed and like,
- 9:42Speaker 5: I just want this for my mom and I never
- 9:46Speaker 5: thought that moment would be able to happen, that she'd
- 9:48Speaker 5: be able to just see me get married. She did,
- 9:51Speaker 5: which is cool. I mean she didn't watch me, but
- 9:53Speaker 5: she was there that day, saw dressed.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Yeah, what was her reaction when she's in the dress?
- 10:00Speaker 5: She just was smiling so big, and she kept looking
- 10:03Speaker 5: at her wedding picture which is on the wall of
- 10:06Speaker 5: her My god, yeah, it was pretty.
- 10:10Speaker 3: It was really special.
- 10:11Speaker 5: So we have a picture of her and her picture
- 10:13Speaker 5: with her and my dad and then it was with
- 10:15Speaker 5: Ryan and us in the picture.
- 10:16Speaker 3: So really special.
- 10:18Speaker 5: And that was actually the day that she met Ryan's
- 10:20Speaker 5: daughters and they were so sweet to my mom and
- 10:24Speaker 5: just it was really really sweet.
- 10:27Speaker 4: How did the introduction to Ryan and your mom go?
- 10:31Speaker 5: Ryan's always been an angel to my mom. And even
- 10:34Speaker 5: the other day, like, I'm the one I usually go
- 10:36Speaker 5: weekly to go visit her back in Sacramento, And the
- 10:39Speaker 5: other day he's like.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Can we go for Mother's Day? Can we go see
- 10:41Speaker 3: your mom? Because I haven't seen her in a while.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Like, he makes the effort and it has always made
- 10:46Speaker 5: the effort to go see her and loves being around her,
- 10:48Speaker 5: and it's just super gentle with her and sincere and it's.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Been the greatest. It's been the greatest.
- 10:56Speaker 5: I know, it's not an easy thing to deal with
- 10:58Speaker 5: to come into a relationship with somebody who's mom is
- 11:01Speaker 5: dying or has dementia, and you don't really know what
- 11:04Speaker 5: to deal with or how to deal with it. But
- 11:07Speaker 5: he's just been always so gentle with my mom.
- 11:09Speaker 3: It's been amazing.
- 11:20Speaker 2: You know, in your life there has been an interesting
- 11:24Speaker 2: change because you've been caring for your mom, sitting beside
- 11:28Speaker 2: your mom for years and kind of doing it, you know,
- 11:31Speaker 2: alone in a lot of ways, just and processing a
- 11:33Speaker 2: lot alone. What has it been like now having a
- 11:35Speaker 2: partner to bounce your emotions off of and your feelings
- 11:39Speaker 2: off of, and also making the effort to go and
- 11:42Speaker 2: spend time as well.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Ryan is amazing in that way. Where he are you
- 11:47Speaker 3: asking me that? Right?
- 11:48Speaker 5: Okay?
- 11:48Speaker 3: Yeah, He's been.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Always made me feel like however I feel it's okay,
- 11:57Speaker 5: And if I'm having a really crappy day and strut,
- 12:00Speaker 5: He's just I.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Know, and I've got it, I understand and.
- 12:04Speaker 5: Very just accepting and loving of whatever emotions I have,
- 12:08Speaker 5: because going through this and going through the hospice and
- 12:11Speaker 5: going dealing with dementia is it's one of the hardest
- 12:15Speaker 5: things ever. There's so many ups and downs, and there's
- 12:17Speaker 5: so many what ifs, and you don't know what's going on.
- 12:21Speaker 5: And he just has been very patient with it. And
- 12:25Speaker 5: I think it's a testament not only to what kind
- 12:27Speaker 5: of man he is, but what also what kind of
- 12:29Speaker 5: father he is, because he's that way with his girls
- 12:32Speaker 5: and his daughters. And that's what attracted me to him,
- 12:35Speaker 5: was how gentle he is and compassionate he is. He's
- 12:38Speaker 5: like the best girl dad you can ask for, you know.
- 12:41Speaker 5: So he's just he knows somehow how.
- 12:43Speaker 3: To handle it right.
- 12:44Speaker 2: And it is where I want to go, is you
- 12:46Speaker 2: are a proud girl dad. You sounds like an incredible dad.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Can you share a little bit about you know, your
- 12:52Speaker 2: daughters and what they're up to and what it's been like,
- 12:56Speaker 2: you know, joining everybody together.
- 12:58Speaker 6: It's been pretty amazing. Claire is the absolute best bonus
- 13:03Speaker 6: mom you could ever ask for. The girls are twelve
- 13:07Speaker 6: and ten, so my youngest will be ten in a month.
- 13:12Speaker 6: It's crazy and it's been it's definitely been wild. So
- 13:19Speaker 6: we just moved into our new house about fifty days ago,
- 13:23Speaker 6: and the girls absolutely love it and they love Claire
- 13:27Speaker 6: and it's been so I have a tradition with both
- 13:33Speaker 6: of them that since they were three, we would take
- 13:35Speaker 6: them to a San Francisco Giants game and it's always
- 13:39Speaker 6: been just me and one of the girls and we
- 13:41Speaker 6: get a jersey with their name on the back and
- 13:43Speaker 6: then the number is their age that year, and just
- 13:48Speaker 6: this just is the greatest thing ever. And so Claire
- 13:52Speaker 6: went for the very first time to that and so
- 13:54Speaker 6: instead of two, we made it three. And then we're
- 13:57Speaker 6: doing the same thing for the youngest in June. And
- 14:01Speaker 6: this is something that when they're away at college, they'll fly.
- 14:06Speaker 4: In and go to their birthday day game.
- 14:08Speaker 6: Oh yeah, And so that was a huge thing for us.
- 14:12Speaker 5: I think right now they're at the point of, like, Dad,
- 14:14Speaker 5: why do we have to go. Yeah, but they'll appreciate it.
- 14:18Speaker 5: But they generally, I mean they get pulled out of school,
- 14:21Speaker 5: the hall passed to get out of school. I think
- 14:23Speaker 5: they love it, and I think just to be able
- 14:25Speaker 5: to look back and know that their dad is like,
- 14:27Speaker 5: did this every year with them.
- 14:28Speaker 3: And other Jerseys.
- 14:29Speaker 5: It's building those traditions, like he thinks about those kind
- 14:33Speaker 5: of things always.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Well, this is Ryan's first podcast. We're really thankful that
- 14:37Speaker 2: you guys came. Thanks for hanging out, thanks for being here,
- 14:39Speaker 2: thanks for sharing this story with us.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Very excited for Claire and you Ryan.
- 14:44Speaker 2: And it's just great to see you in person and
- 14:47Speaker 2: not see it over social media, because you can be
- 14:49Speaker 2: really happy for somebody over social media, but when you
- 14:51Speaker 2: see it in person, just it makes the world warmer.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And we're happy for the two of you. Okay, close up,
- 14:58Speaker 2: what's next for the two of you? Final question? What's
- 15:01Speaker 2: going to go on? What's the next stages in life?
- 15:04Speaker 2: What's life looking like?
- 15:05Speaker 4: Give us an exclusive of selves art we could use
- 15:08Speaker 4: the headline.
- 15:09Speaker 5: The exclusive is.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I don't know what the exclusive is. I don't know.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Claire is finally at peace.
- 15:16Speaker 5: I mean I feel like for so long the world
- 15:19Speaker 5: has seen me just fight and fight and fight and
- 15:22Speaker 5: be this like I'm like determined, and somehow it's been
- 15:28Speaker 5: kind of like at least this is how I feel,
- 15:30Speaker 5: twisted into this, like God, she is this like hey woman,
- 15:34Speaker 5: you know, and she's this demanding woman. But I feel
- 15:37Speaker 5: like for so long it's been that, Like I felt
- 15:40Speaker 5: on guard for so long and protective of my happiness
- 15:43Speaker 5: and fighting for that. But I feel like this stage
- 15:46Speaker 5: of my life is peace. This stage of my life
- 15:50Speaker 5: is happiness, and this stage stage of my life is
- 15:53Speaker 5: like calmness, and whatever the next step is, I'm not
- 15:57Speaker 5: trying to control it.
- 15:58Speaker 3: It comes when it comes.
- 15:59Speaker 5: Whatever that looks like, I'm just happy being And I
- 16:04Speaker 5: think that hasn't been a thing.
- 16:05Speaker 3: For a long, long long time.
- 16:08Speaker 5: It was always fighting for whatever it is, even in
- 16:11Speaker 5: the best of ways. It was like fighting for my happiness,
- 16:14Speaker 5: fighting to get to this place, fighting for what I want.
- 16:17Speaker 5: And finally now this phase is just accepting everything and
- 16:21Speaker 5: sitting back and being like this is everything I've ever
- 16:24Speaker 5: dreamed of and I couldn't ask for anything more.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Ryan, how do you feel when you hear things like that?
- 16:33Speaker 4: It is the greatest feeling ever you guys, where's the camera?
- 16:38Speaker 7: I know Cara, who cares about us? They're seriously the
- 16:44Speaker 7: sweetest to watch. His hand is always on her, and
- 16:46Speaker 7: I love it. It's just like so like comforting and secure,
- 16:49Speaker 7: like your security is like visual.
- 16:51Speaker 3: When I'm around, I can feel it and see it.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 16:54Speaker 5: I feel it, like I said, every single day, and
- 16:57Speaker 5: it's I fall asleep with his hand on my life
- 17:00Speaker 5: or you know, and I wake up and he's, you know,
- 17:04Speaker 5: doing this to my face, and it's just it's the
- 17:07Speaker 5: most opposite of any relationship I've ever had in the
- 17:13Speaker 5: best ways possible. I thought I knew what relationships were like,
- 17:17Speaker 5: but it was just this skewed perception of coming out
- 17:19Speaker 5: of bad relationships and the wrong relationships. And so when
- 17:23Speaker 5: finally the good one happened, I'm like, that's new, that's new,
- 17:27Speaker 5: and I keep he'll do normal things, and I'm like,
- 17:30Speaker 5: I've never had that before. So I'm relearning what a
- 17:32Speaker 5: good relationship looks like. And sometimes it's challenging, and sometimes
- 17:36Speaker 5: it's like what is that, I've.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Never known that?
- 17:39Speaker 5: And then now I'm finally the place where I'm like,
- 17:42Speaker 5: this is what it's supposed to feel like.
- 17:44Speaker 3: This is what it's supposed to be like, and I
- 17:46Speaker 3: love it. Don't stop.
- 17:47Speaker 7: You know, I always think of Claire as like the
- 17:50Speaker 7: definition of like femininity in a womanhood.
- 17:53Speaker 3: She's just the perfect combination. This sounds like the quote
- 17:56Speaker 3: from Crazy Stupid Love.
- 17:57Speaker 7: You're just the perfect combination of strong and soft.
- 18:03Speaker 3: You agree, I appreciate that. I appreciate that.
- 18:06Speaker 5: I think the world has seen a lot of my
- 18:08Speaker 5: strong and now Ryan gets to enjoy the soft, you know.
- 18:13Speaker 9: All Right, Well, thank you guys so much.
