- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time, a wave original.
- 0:10Speaker 1: My name is Bobani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Subscribe, like. Rate us, review us, give us five stars.
- 0:18Speaker 2: You only give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe
- 0:20Speaker 2: you are a hater.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It is that time of week where we have a
- 0:23Speaker 1: guest join us, coming to us from the ringer from Chicago, Illinois.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I just realized, man, the ringer boy, y'all racking up
- 0:31Speaker 1: the brothers these days, Jason Goff.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I stopped and thought about it.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Between Van and you and the homie Joel. Y'all got,
- 0:38Speaker 1: you know, a black hater along with you two guys.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Shout out to Joel.
- 0:44Speaker 4: That pod is outstanding. Him and Tate Frazier and Van
- 0:46Speaker 4: Lathan doing college football stuff. And he does the press box.
- 0:49Speaker 4: But yeah, man, we cornering the market. You know, it's
- 0:52Speaker 4: good over here. We have a good time. You know,
- 0:54Speaker 4: we don't have to worry about people hovering over you.
- 0:56Speaker 4: You can say what you want. It's a good time
- 0:58Speaker 4: right now. Good time to bring it.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And I haven't talked to Joel a little bit about this,
- 1:01Speaker 1: but I actually think Having Joel and Van do that
- 1:05Speaker 1: podcast with Tate or not Tate is a bigger deal
- 1:08Speaker 1: than people realize. At my last job, I spent many
- 1:12Speaker 1: years asking, hey, man, how can I get involved with
- 1:14Speaker 1: the college football? And it became clear to me the
- 1:17Speaker 1: people I was talking to didn't think it fit. Or
- 1:21Speaker 1: my favorite was I didn't know Bomani liked college football.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You ever heard my voice? I'm from Texas.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Like, like, like, why would you think I don't?
- 1:32Speaker 1: But it's, it's a thing that people have that for
- 1:34Speaker 1: whatever reason, college football is seen as like this exclusive, like,
- 1:40Speaker 1: fiefdom of Southern white men.
- 1:45Speaker 4: And that was not my experience when I went down
- 1:47Speaker 4: to Atlanta for the first time to go work.
- 1:50Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 4: You want to find yourself some true blue college football
- 1:55Speaker 4: fans who don't mess with people from the other side
- 1:58Speaker 4: on some real turf war shit? Yeah, go talk to
- 2:02Speaker 4: people in New Orleans. Go talk to people in Atlanta.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Go talk to people in Houston. Go talk to people
- 2:06Speaker 4: in the Carolinas. It's part of the DNA. It's part
- 2:09Speaker 4: of the blood.
- 2:09Speaker 2: We from the same place. Right, right.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Well, it's two things. One, we from the same place.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And two, for better or worse, this is just how
- 2:20Speaker 1: it went, man. Integration decimated a lot of these black institutions.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 1: HBCU football now, like you go to Mississippi, for example,
- 2:27Speaker 1: and black folks are still into HBCU football like it's
- 2:30Speaker 1: 1963 because a lot of things in Mississippi are like
- 2:35Speaker 1: it's 1963.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I'll make the rules. I'm just telling you what it is, right?
- 2:39Speaker 1: But once you decimate ours, we still, everybody want to
- 2:42Speaker 1: love the crib.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Everybody want to say they love the place they from.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And the way you do, like get involved in the
- 2:47Speaker 1: place you from, or you wind up your cousin, go
- 2:49Speaker 1: play at insert place here or whatever it is. But like,
- 2:52Speaker 1: We still there and people absolutely 100% cannot grasp the idea.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So I give a shout to Bill on that one
- 3:00Speaker 1: for having those two cats. And if you ever talked
- 3:02Speaker 1: to Van Lathan about like, Joel played college football, obviously, right?
- 3:06Speaker 1: and then Van care about college football on another level,
- 3:10Speaker 1: in a much different way.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah, he's an LSU dude, tried and true.
- 3:14Speaker 4: You argue with him about that Joe Burrow-led team, and
- 3:17Speaker 4: he will tell you that's the greatest team ever assembled.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I saw those Miami Squads back in the day.
- 3:23Speaker 4: I saw Tommy Frazier and Lawrence Phillips and them cats
- 3:26Speaker 4: back in the day, so it's like, It's harder for me,
- 3:28Speaker 4: but yeah, now Van is very, and that's the thing, Bill,
- 3:31Speaker 4: you know, you shoot an idea to Bill and you
- 3:33Speaker 4: give him a concept and you prove that concept along
- 3:36Speaker 4: the way, he's going to let you rock out. So yeah,
- 3:38Speaker 4: it's a good time over there and I'm looking forward
- 3:41Speaker 4: to every week hanging out with him. And shout out
- 3:43Speaker 4: to you too, by the way, because I just started
- 3:46Speaker 4: tuning in because Spencer is terrific. But I just started
- 3:50Speaker 4: tuning into his podcast and.
- 3:52Speaker 3: It's, it's, it's, it's his world. It's one of one. Yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. So no, man, it's, it's a beautiful thing
- 3:59Speaker 4: where you can, you can dabble in a whole bunch
- 4:01Speaker 4: of different spots.
- 4:03Speaker 3: But yeah, man, shout out to the ringer. Shout out
- 4:04Speaker 3: to the ringer.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I tell you this boy, y'all get y'all one more.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I'm gonna start calling y'all the ringer. You know what
- 4:11Speaker 2: I'm saying?
- 4:12Speaker 3: Damn, I wish I hadn't heard you say that. I
- 4:14Speaker 3: wish I hadn't heard you say that.
- 4:16Speaker 1: We start calling it the wrangler, and then if y'all
- 4:19Speaker 1: get some old country white boys in there, we start
- 4:21Speaker 1: calling it the wrangler.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Ooh, see? This is why. This is why you at
- 4:26Speaker 3: the top of this profession gave me.
- 4:28Speaker 2: The wrangler. And your slogan is, we keep it tight.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Ladies and gentlemen, we want to thank you for listening
- 4:36Speaker 4: to the right time. Hey, listen, there's no more positive
- 4:39Speaker 4: to be done.
- 4:39Speaker 3: We're going to talk about Southern whites, Southern blacks.
- 4:43Speaker 4: You know, the funny thing that I find, well, not funny,
- 4:47Speaker 4: but the interesting thing is that what segregation did to
- 4:52Speaker 4: baseball and how the Negro Leagues and how baseball was
- 4:58Speaker 4: a staple of the community and how it took business
- 5:01Speaker 4: away and integration of baseball took business away and how
- 5:06Speaker 4: that didn't happen in the same way that it happened
- 5:09Speaker 4: for college football. even though the ties that bind are
- 5:13Speaker 4: so authentic and so thick.
- 5:15Speaker 2: That's interesting.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yeah, right?
- 5:17Speaker 4: Because you talk to anybody, Bob Kendrick, anybody about what
- 5:22Speaker 4: Negro League baseball and what traveling and barnstorming baseball was
- 5:26Speaker 4: as an economy for the community, what it was culturally.
- 5:30Speaker 4: I mean, you got people suited and booted in these
- 5:33Speaker 4: little band box stadiums, and then all of a sudden
- 5:35Speaker 4: the integration of baseball happens. kind of takes away from that,
- 5:39Speaker 4: whereas with college football, it didn't really happen that way.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Well, the difference was they waited a lot longer to
- 5:46Speaker 1: play football with.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Us in a lot of these places. You know what
- 5:50Speaker 2: I'm saying?
- 5:52Speaker 3: Shout out to the Southwest Conference.
- 5:54Speaker 1: And then when they did let us play football with them,
- 5:57Speaker 1: you know what it killed?
- 5:58Speaker 2: Baseball.
- 5:59Speaker 1: They was like, hey, man, we got to, we got to,
- 6:03Speaker 1: you got to leave, you got to leave something for us, right?
- 6:06Speaker 1: Because like, remind me, you're a little bit younger than me,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but not much, right?
- 6:09Speaker 3: Now, how old are you now? I'm going to be
- 6:11Speaker 3: 45 in November.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Okay, we the same age, okay.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Because I just turned 45 last week.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay. Happy belated, by the way.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Likewise, happy future.
- 6:19Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 6:21Speaker 1: What I can't explain to people is what a big deal,
- 6:24Speaker 1: like baseball is my first love of anything. Like you
- 6:29Speaker 1: did not have to explain nobody being black and being
- 6:32Speaker 1: into baseball in any capacity whatsoever, right? City, country, wherever
- 6:38Speaker 1: you were. And you look at the cats who were
- 6:40Speaker 1: playing baseball, right? Like the idea that Darryl Strawberry, Eric
- 6:44Speaker 1: Davis come out of South Central, right?
- 6:46Speaker 4: Right.
- 6:46Speaker 1: In that time period, Darryl Strawberry, number one pick in
- 6:48Speaker 1: the draft in 1980. So we, you know, we talk
- 6:50Speaker 1: in late 70s, early 80s with those guys. And those
- 6:53Speaker 1: guys are the athletes that would be like, Dominique talks
- 6:55Speaker 1: about this all the time, that he underestimated the athleticism
- 6:58Speaker 1: of baseball players. And then he got cool with Adam Jones,
- 7:01Speaker 1: not Pac-Man, but baseball Adam Jones. And he hooped with
- 7:04Speaker 1: him and was like, oh, okay, you just like us.
- 7:07Speaker 1: You just play baseball. If you remember Eric Davis, and
- 7:11Speaker 1: I know like this is a guy that, people of
- 7:14Speaker 1: a certain age, like this would be one that I
- 7:15Speaker 1: would ask Ryan about, or Ryan would say that he
- 7:17Speaker 1: didn't know who Eric Davis was.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Beautiful player.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Boy, Eric Davis was something, boy.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Beautiful player. He uglied it up with.
- 7:22Speaker 2: All that damn tobacco.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Ain't nobody have more tobacco in they mouth than Eric
- 7:26Speaker 1: Davis did. Eric Davis was out here hitting 20 homers,
- 7:29Speaker 1: stealing 80 bases, beat colon cancer, by the way. Eric
- 7:34Speaker 1: Davis was that dude. But these days, they look at
- 7:36Speaker 1: Eric Davis and be like, what you going to be
- 7:38Speaker 1: doing out here, brother, is you going to be backpedaling
- 7:41Speaker 1: and covering.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Go get you in that slot real quick.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Sorry, baby.
- 7:46Speaker 1: We playing spring football. We don't really have time for
- 7:49Speaker 1: you to be out here playing this baseball.
- 7:52Speaker 3: You talk about the 80s for me and Darryl Strawberry, obviously,
- 7:56Speaker 3: but for me.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Seeing the Oakland Athletics and thinking that this is what
- 8:02Speaker 4: baseball is, right?
- 8:03Speaker 3: You had Dave Stewart, who was a tough ass.
- 8:06Speaker 4: You talk about bulldog pitches all you want. Dave Stewart
- 8:12Speaker 4: seemed like he was going to strike you out and
- 8:13Speaker 4: then beat your ass after if you had something to
- 8:15Speaker 4: say about it. Right. And then Ricky Henderson, man, like
- 8:19Speaker 4: there are a few baseball.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Players who if you didn't get a chance to see this.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Person, you were excited to show them for the first
- 8:27Speaker 4: time what he actually was. And even, you know, the
- 8:30Speaker 4: guy like Tony Phillips and baseball was amazing. Baseball was
- 8:33Speaker 4: a part of my reckoning as a kid where it's like,
- 8:36Speaker 4: all right, during the summer, I could run around all
- 8:39Speaker 4: day long, but I'd come in and watch the greatest
- 8:41Speaker 4: right-hand hitter of my generation play right in the backyard
- 8:44Speaker 4: in Frank Thomas. So the fact that you've got a
- 8:48Speaker 4: situation now where the Cubs are allowing certain people on
- 8:51Speaker 4: the field that might not need to be on the field,
- 8:54Speaker 4: and there's a dearth of black baseball players that you
- 8:59Speaker 4: can actually look at and say, that's like Mookie Betts.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Too bad he's having the season he's having, but Mookie
- 9:03Speaker 4: Betts is an amazing baseball player. And Mookie Betts isn't
- 9:07Speaker 4: as known as he should be.
- 9:09Speaker 1: If anybody ever lets me make something on the 91 Braves, right?
- 9:14Speaker 2: Or just the Braves that run in general.
- 9:16Speaker 1: This is the part that nobody talks about in this
- 9:19Speaker 1: day and time.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Left field, right field, center field. Ron Gant, Otis Nixon,
- 9:30Speaker 1: David Justice. Third base, Terry Pendleton. The most underrated figure
- 9:37Speaker 1: of that entire era of baseball. MVP 91, MVP runner-up
- 9:41Speaker 1: in 1992. Retire his fucking jersey. This is not a
- 9:46Speaker 1: franchise with enough history where you have to make the
- 9:49Speaker 1: fucking Hall of Fame for us to retire your jersey, right?
- 9:52Speaker 2: Is he Dale Murphy to Atlanta? Not exactly.
- 9:55Speaker 1: However, Dale Murphy's jerseys retired because he won an MVP
- 10:01Speaker 1: back-to-back years. Terry Pendleton was a 1-2 finish and was
- 10:04Speaker 1: the person that legitimized that baseball team into becoming what
- 10:06Speaker 1: it ultimately became, right? But anyway, we got him. Raphael
- 10:10Speaker 1: Beliar platooning at shortstop. You had Black Brian Hunter on
- 10:16Speaker 1: first base in the platoon. All I'm saying is, them team,
- 10:19Speaker 1: that was a hot Atlanta era team. And that team
- 10:23Speaker 1: was really, really black, like black people in Atlanta and
- 10:28Speaker 1: around Atlanta. And I wasn't even living there at the time,
- 10:31Speaker 1: but I knew enough to tell we're around that team.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Like that gets lost.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Cause you think about it as Glavin, Smoltz, Chipper, Maddox
- 10:37Speaker 1: comes in, in 93, you know, all.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Of those things.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:42Speaker 2: But no, no, no, no, no.
- 10:43Speaker 1: The, the building of this, was because it was one
- 10:45Speaker 1: of the few things that whole city can get behind.
- 10:49Speaker 2: One of the few things.
- 10:50Speaker 4: It was amazing when I got down to Atlanta to
- 10:53Speaker 4: start my show down there in 2014. It was such
- 10:58Speaker 4: a big deal. You mentioned the Blackout Field. They had
- 11:00Speaker 4: signed the Upton brothers and Jason Hayward was down there.
- 11:04Speaker 4: And it was such a big deal because, you know,
- 11:06Speaker 4: I was wondering why people, hey, you know, outside of
- 11:09Speaker 4: Cobb County, the Braves can.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Be cool again. And I'm like, wait a minute. Wait
- 11:14Speaker 3: a minute. What's this about? Like, I needed the breakdown
- 11:17Speaker 3: and people explained to me.
- 11:19Speaker 4: And I always wondered, was it like a Washington, D.C.,
- 11:22Speaker 4: you know our name team where the the brothers and
- 11:27Speaker 4: sisters kind of step back from that that thing that
- 11:29Speaker 4: i in a way that i hadn't known about until
- 11:32Speaker 4: you talk to people in dc about it um i
- 11:34Speaker 4: don't know if that happens in dallas but there's always
- 11:37Speaker 4: these interesting pockets of like we love sports the same
- 11:40Speaker 4: way everybody else loves sports but certain times it's like
- 11:43Speaker 4: you know what this team don't seem like it's.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah but some people some people been spitting in
- 11:47Speaker 1: our faces i mean i mean Maryland football will never
- 11:51Speaker 1: be good still paying for the sins of the racism
- 11:54Speaker 1: of the past, right? One of the things that me
- 11:57Speaker 1: and hatin' ass Joel have is I grew up rooting
- 12:00Speaker 1: for Texas and Joel is of a family that could
- 12:04Speaker 1: never do such a thing, right?
- 12:07Speaker 2: But it's because they from around there, right? Like they
- 12:09Speaker 2: from Arkansas, like.
- 12:11Speaker 1: The historical legacy of racism of Texas, the University of
- 12:15Speaker 1: Texas Athletics. hits them in a way where me as
- 12:18Speaker 1: somebody who moved in late, it don't quite go the
- 12:20Speaker 1: same way. But if you were to ask my daddy
- 12:22Speaker 1: about LSU, it took a long time before we could
- 12:24Speaker 1: get on board. Nick Saban was the only reason that
- 12:26Speaker 1: people wound up getting on board with LSU. But no,
- 12:29Speaker 1: Texas was paying for the sins of that racism for decades.
- 12:33Speaker 1: It wasn't until the 21st century that they really overcame
- 12:37Speaker 1: what what they were known for like the reputation was
- 12:40Speaker 1: they understood that they was going to integrate and they
- 12:42Speaker 1: hoped to be the last school to do it there
- 12:43Speaker 1: was a conference full of people that wanted to be
- 12:45Speaker 1: the last school to do it and a lot of
- 12:47Speaker 1: folks hey man ain't no uh ain't no letting that
- 12:51Speaker 1: slide I don't even know the particulars of it but
- 12:53Speaker 1: my daddy liked that about Penn State and Joe Paterno
- 12:56Speaker 1: I never bothered to get to the bottom of it
- 12:58Speaker 1: but that's where that's where he.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Was Yeah, no, it's interesting, man.
- 13:02Speaker 4: And the grand point is we make a lot of things,
- 13:06Speaker 4: if not everything better, including more money and wins for you.
- 13:10Speaker 3: So put that bullshit to the side and let's get
- 13:14Speaker 3: to it, though, man. Chicago, same way.
- 13:16Speaker 4: The Bears had a throwback or a alternate uniform a
- 13:20Speaker 4: couple of years ago that was under some scrutiny because
- 13:23Speaker 4: a black player had never worn this uniform because at
- 13:26Speaker 4: that time, There.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Were no black players.
- 13:29Speaker 4: You know, it was a silent band, but there were
- 13:31Speaker 4: no black players on the Chicago Bears roster early on
- 13:34Speaker 4: in the Hallis days. And a couple of people started
- 13:37Speaker 4: to bring up like, hey, go back and look at
- 13:39Speaker 4: these uniforms, some of these team photos. And he's going
- 13:42Speaker 4: to be the first brothers in 20, 19, 20, 20, 20,
- 13:44Speaker 4: 21 who have.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Ever worn this uniform. So it's it's weird and it
- 13:49Speaker 3: continues to be weird. And.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Don't get it twisted. There are a lot of teams
- 13:53Speaker 4: that still abide by some of those rules.
- 13:54Speaker 3: They just do it in a different way.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Yep.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I don't know how we wound up getting here. However,
- 14:00Speaker 1: we did. But I want to stick with the Chicago Bears.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Right? The NFC North.
- 14:08Speaker 1: It's going to be, at least for right now, it's
- 14:10Speaker 1: the most interesting division in the NFL right now.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Like I have to say, this is a.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Really interesting NFL season coming into it. We have maybe
- 14:20Speaker 1: the best coached division of all time in the AFC West.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll, do not forget they don't
- 14:27Speaker 2: like each other. We have that. Sean Payton and Andy Reid, right?
- 14:32Speaker 1: Like we have three coaches that have won Super Bowls
- 14:35Speaker 1: and Jim Harbaugh.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Stop and think about that for a second, right? So
- 14:41Speaker 2: that's crazy.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Wow. Now that you break it down, and also, you
- 14:47Speaker 4: got guys who still are doing it at a high level. Like,
- 14:51Speaker 4: normally you get cats who are on the other end
- 14:54Speaker 4: or in that vacation tour where it's like, ah, this
- 14:55Speaker 4: is the last stop. These are still dudes doing it
- 14:57Speaker 4: at the high level. The NFC North part, dude, I
- 15:00Speaker 4: don't know that I've, since the NFC Central as a kid...
- 15:04Speaker 4: This was a division that had Warren Sapp, Barry Sanders,
- 15:07Speaker 4: Randy Moss, Brett Favre in it at the same time, right?
- 15:10Speaker 4: Running around and teams were good, teams were bad, but
- 15:13Speaker 4: it was always interesting.
- 15:14Speaker 3: And then there was that- Derrick Brooks. Derrick Brooks, right? Exactly.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Those Tampa Bay teams were fire.
- 15:19Speaker 4: And then you get to the point where Green Bay
- 15:22Speaker 4: has a run of, okay, Brett Favre's the quarterback, then
- 15:24Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback. So you got 25 years
- 15:27Speaker 4: of contention. Minnesota was always cool. And don't forget, they
- 15:31Speaker 4: go from, what is it, Warren Moon, Randall Cunningham, Jeff George,
- 15:35Speaker 4: all them dudes, Dante Culpepper.
- 15:36Speaker 3: It was always an interesting division.
- 15:37Speaker 4: This division this year, there's so much intrigue because of
- 15:41Speaker 4: the quarterback positions and the coaches, like you mentioned.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Matt LaFleur is that dude. Right. Like Dan Campbell has
- 15:47Speaker 3: become that dude. Right.
- 15:49Speaker 4: And of course, Ben Johnson is the wunderkind. And you
- 15:53Speaker 4: take a look at what Kevin O'Connell is doing in Minnesota.
- 15:56Speaker 4: He made Sam Donald with a 13-14 game win last year.
- 16:00Speaker 4: So it's a crazy place the division finds itself in.
- 16:03Speaker 3: And the Bears are going to.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Be in the mix, but I'm not as enthused as
- 16:09Speaker 4: everybody else is about this roster.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Okay, so last year, I think people got a little
- 16:14Speaker 1: over their skis about how advantageous a situation Caleb Williams
- 16:20Speaker 1: was in because of the weapons on the outside, ignoring
- 16:23Speaker 1: that it was football and football starts on the inside.
- 16:27Speaker 2: And they didn't have anybody. They didn't have anybody to
- 16:30Speaker 2: block for a guy who does not play on time.
- 16:33Speaker 2: That's not his game. Right.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Like he gets back there and he makes it happen.
- 16:37Speaker 1: You watched a lot more of him than I did.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I didn't think he was as bad as advertised. I
- 16:41Speaker 1: thought he looked like a rookie quarterback.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And I do think that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: The ability to kind of bring guys into the league
- 16:46Speaker 1: now with like the RPO games and stuff like that,
- 16:49Speaker 1: we don't see the hard-knock rookie years that we used to.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And I don't know what to make of hard-knock rookie
- 16:54Speaker 1: years anymore. Like Josh Allen, I thought, had two hard-knock
- 16:57Speaker 1: years coming in, and then he eventually.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Got it right.
- 17:00Speaker 1: But I don't even know what to make of a
- 17:02Speaker 1: good year to start because we've seen– I mean, Robert
- 17:04Speaker 1: Griffin had the knee injury to go with it, but–
- 17:07Speaker 1: We've seen the examples of the guys who started, like
- 17:09Speaker 1: Mack Jones becomes an example. We're going to watch what
- 17:11Speaker 1: happens with Bo Nix, where a guy can start off
- 17:13Speaker 1: pretty good and then not wind up being the jam.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield was another guy that was in that situation.
- 17:19Speaker 1: But now, I feel like... Caleb Williams' situation is so bad,
- 17:24Speaker 1: not because the team is bad necessarily, but the pressure
- 17:29Speaker 1: around him has completely changed. They are absolutely the worst
- 17:32Speaker 1: team in that division. I don't think Caleb Williams could
- 17:35Speaker 1: go out there and play like Jaden Daniels did last year.
- 17:38Speaker 1: And I think they're still probably the worst team in
- 17:41Speaker 1: the division. On top of that... Big brain Ben has
- 17:45Speaker 1: come in, right? Ben Johnson was the offensive coordinator for
- 17:47Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions. And please understand, he do got a
- 17:50Speaker 1: big brain. Like, I don't want to act like he's
- 17:52Speaker 1: not a very good coordinator, like he doesn't appear to
- 17:54Speaker 1: be a very smart dude. But it does appear that
- 17:58Speaker 1: rather than cooking a system up to fit the quarterback,
- 18:01Speaker 1: he seems to be asking the quarterback to fit the system,
- 18:03Speaker 1: which seems to me to be a recipe for disaster.
- 18:06Speaker 4: I talked to Courtney Cronin about this on my pod
- 18:09Speaker 4: last night, and it's interesting how we treat people that
- 18:13Speaker 4: we are supposed to like, right? Like, if somebody does
- 18:17Speaker 4: that and you don't like them or you don't think
- 18:19Speaker 4: highly of them, it's like, oh, what is this guy doing?
- 18:21Speaker 4: But if they do do it, it's like, well, this
- 18:23Speaker 4: is why they hired him. You got to play it
- 18:24Speaker 4: to his system. Last year, and she stated this to me,
- 18:27Speaker 4: and we talked about this, Last year, Caleb Williams was
- 18:30Speaker 4: drowning a lot more than people realize, more so than
- 18:33Speaker 4: rookie quarterbacks usually have to. Because, one, two coaches got
- 18:38Speaker 4: fired during the year. And also, like, he stopped being
- 18:41Speaker 4: himself a little bit, right? There was a mention of
- 18:46Speaker 4: the fingernail polish. And midway through the season, he stopped
- 18:50Speaker 4: doing that.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Really?
- 18:51Speaker 4: He stopped doing that midway through the season. And if
- 18:53Speaker 4: you know the story behind it and for all the
- 18:55Speaker 4: tough guys, his mom is a nail tech, right? So
- 18:59Speaker 4: he's been around his business his entire life, right? And
- 19:03Speaker 4: throughout the season, as things started to get tough, he
- 19:06Speaker 4: started to notice like, you know what?
- 19:08Speaker 3: Maybe this ain't the attention.
- 19:11Speaker 4: And maybe I also am in a, I'm in a
- 19:14Speaker 4: locker room where you got a whole bunch of old
- 19:16Speaker 4: cats who are looking at you.
- 19:18Speaker 3: And you've been around it, Bo. You talk to these dudes.
- 19:22Speaker 4: It's hard for a rookie quarterback to come in in
- 19:24Speaker 4: a stable locker room and leave 30, 35 years old.
- 19:27Speaker 1: You know what he did, man. It happens all the time.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Cats go to court and it's the dreadlocks fault.
- 19:33Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 19:35Speaker 3: Like, I can't rock. I can't. I would, I would,
- 19:40Speaker 3: I would, I would agree. Well, I do agree. Yeah.
- 19:43Speaker 3: They get in there with the African McDowell.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Is that what?
- 19:50Speaker 3: With gold for the fall?
- 19:51Speaker 2: The week before Michael Vick got arrested, he had brains.
- 19:54Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? He showed up in court.
- 19:56Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, how you get your ways back so.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Fast, big homie?
- 20:01Speaker 2: I would go with that. But it's a thing, right?
- 20:05Speaker 2: He's like, I need these cats to follow me.
- 20:07Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if they're being ridiculous right now. I
- 20:11Speaker 1: don't need to make this harder on myself.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Than it has to be. But I'm disappointed for his
- 20:18Speaker 2: own sake that he had to do that.
- 20:20Speaker 4: I am.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I am. He had to. He had to.
- 20:23Speaker 4: He had a locker room full of cats looking at
- 20:25Speaker 4: him sideways.
- 20:26Speaker 3: And also, man, he had a substitute teacher as his
- 20:28Speaker 3: head coach.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:30Speaker 4: Like, he had the dude who might buy a little
- 20:31Speaker 4: weed off one of the kids as his head coach.
- 20:33Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? You know what I mean?
- 20:35Speaker 4: You know the sub where it's like, hey, man, I
- 20:38Speaker 4: smell how you're coming in here.
- 20:39Speaker 3: After class, you know, link up with me. I ain't
- 20:42Speaker 3: going to be here long. Right? You straight? Nah, you
- 20:46Speaker 3: smoking that Reggie. You're going to get aced. Right?
- 20:49Speaker 4: This dude got fired. The first time in Bears history,
- 20:53Speaker 4: a coach gets fired in the middle of the season.
- 20:55Speaker 4: Speaks to how they haven't evaluated talent properly over the years.
- 20:59Speaker 4: There's a bunch of cats probably should have got fired.
- 21:01Speaker 3: So he's been in the mix.
- 21:03Speaker 4: And this whole time took 68 sacks, getting his ass whooped,
- 21:06Speaker 4: and also had players doing a lot of shady body
- 21:10Speaker 4: language stuff to him that have been drafted over now, right?
- 21:14Speaker 4: Bears go out there and go get Luther Burden. Bears
- 21:17Speaker 4: go out there and go get Colston Loveland. I would
- 21:19Speaker 4: have you look at those two rooms at tight end
- 21:21Speaker 4: and wide receiver and see who was doing the shrugging
- 21:25Speaker 4: and the shirking and the talking crazy publicly about this dude.
- 21:29Speaker 4: And the Ben Johnson part, Ben come in here like, yo,
- 21:33Speaker 4: I watched the tape. All of y'all suck. So we're
- 21:36Speaker 4: going to find out who can do what I need
- 21:39Speaker 4: them to do. And he wouldn't have come there if
- 21:42Speaker 4: Caleb Williams wasn't a quarterback. So anyway, It's a weird year.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Ryan Pose got extended, and he's 15-36 as a GM.
- 21:50Speaker 4: So it's the Chicago way of just saying, here goes
- 21:53Speaker 4: some bread, and hopefully it'll work out in the end.
- 21:56Speaker 4: I'm looking forward to seeing how the— layers of the
- 22:02Speaker 4: onion get peeled back and the excuses go away. Because
- 22:05Speaker 4: you go out and get Joe Tooney, you go out
- 22:06Speaker 4: and get Drew Domi, you go out and get Jonah Jackson,
- 22:09Speaker 4: you make sure the interior of that line is what
- 22:11Speaker 4: it's supposed to be. Grady Jarrett just got here 17
- 22:13Speaker 4: minutes ago, and he is now a team captain.
- 22:16Speaker 3: It speaks to.
- 22:17Speaker 4: The mismanagement of what was supposed to be, hey, we
- 22:22Speaker 4: got the number one pick, and now you take off
- 22:24Speaker 4: from here. I think it's a personal study going forward,
- 22:27Speaker 4: and just because you get the number one pick, just
- 22:29Speaker 4: because you get that transcendent generational quarterback, whatever you want
- 22:32Speaker 4: to call him, you can still end up being the
- 22:33Speaker 4: Jags with Trevor Lawrence looking around like, hey, when are
- 22:36Speaker 4: we going to start having this conversation? I think Caleb Williams,
- 22:39Speaker 4: a year from now, when it's time to start talking
- 22:41Speaker 4: about paying him, hopefully he's not.
- 22:43Speaker 3: In that mix, but... Yeah, man, it's interesting to say
- 22:47Speaker 3: the least.
- 22:47Speaker 1: But what I find interesting about it, at.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Least for him, is the fact that it's year two.
- 22:57Speaker 1: And we're making it, this is where the black quarterback
- 22:59Speaker 1: thing still is a thing, right? Is when the clock
- 23:02Speaker 1: starts on you. And to be fair, the Bears let
- 23:05Speaker 1: the clock wind a while on Justin Fields, right? So
- 23:08Speaker 1: I don't want to pretend as though what we're talking
- 23:10Speaker 1: about are like straight line absolutes, which is weird, by
- 23:13Speaker 1: the way, because I think the promise of Caleb Williams
- 23:15Speaker 1: is greater than the promise truly ever was with Fields.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Fields is a better athlete, but in terms of like
- 23:21Speaker 1: watching the two of them in college, I think that
- 23:23Speaker 1: Williams is probably the better quarterback, right?
- 23:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:26Speaker 1: But at the same time, it's year two. He came
- 23:29Speaker 1: out after three years of college. And we like if
- 23:32Speaker 1: he can't get on board with this guy that's never
- 23:34Speaker 1: been a head coach before, then I think he's cooked.
- 23:37Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 23:37Speaker 1: Like there's there's an element of that that I think
- 23:40Speaker 1: is a little bit crazy. But the other part is
- 23:43Speaker 1: you knew what this dude was when you drafted him.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And so you have to build around what he is.
- 23:48Speaker 1: What I will always give the Arizona Cardinals credit for
- 23:51Speaker 1: is that once they decided they were taking Kyler Murray,
- 23:54Speaker 1: they did not try to turn Kyler Murray into Johnny Unitas.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:57Speaker 1: They had you know, he was the quarterback that fit
- 24:00Speaker 1: the coach that they wanted to hire and could do
- 24:02Speaker 1: the things. And they tried to do the things you
- 24:04Speaker 1: could talk about how well it worked or it didn't work.
- 24:06Speaker 1: But they did not try to make that guy into
- 24:08Speaker 1: somebody that he is not. I don't think that you
- 24:12Speaker 1: can turn Caleb Williams, especially not somebody with the confidence
- 24:15Speaker 1: that this dude had coming out of school.
- 24:16Speaker 2: And I don't know what that confidence is as.
- 24:18Speaker 1: It stands, but you can't, you're either going to work
- 24:22Speaker 1: with him as the type of quarterback that he is,
- 24:24Speaker 1: or he's not right. Like you need to coach around him.
- 24:27Speaker 1: For example, like you did with Russell Wilson, Russell Wilson
- 24:29Speaker 1: is not a guy that played on time. Russell Wilson
- 24:31Speaker 1: made eight, nine pro bowls being Russell Wilson. That's the
- 24:34Speaker 1: way you got to do it.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:37Speaker 4: The, the issue is, Russell Wilson had all that around him, too.
- 24:43Speaker 4: I think asking Caleb Williams to be himself is not
- 24:47Speaker 4: the problem. I think what the problem is is saving
- 24:51Speaker 4: him from himself, understanding that these ain't the dudes you
- 24:54Speaker 4: used to play against. And in the end, asking Caleb
- 24:58Speaker 4: to be himself four or five times a game as
- 25:01Speaker 4: opposed to 10 to 12 times a game is going
- 25:04Speaker 4: to be the difference between.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Him looking like he's supposed to look.
- 25:07Speaker 4: It sounds crazy, but Ben Johnson came here to make
- 25:11Speaker 4: Caleb Williams a little bit more.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Jared Goff in terms of, hey, When that thing.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Ain't there, take the cheese, man. Take the free money.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Go check it down. We'll work our way down the field.
- 25:21Speaker 3: And when everything breaks down, or if we're in a
- 25:23Speaker 3: two-minute drive, or.
- 25:24Speaker 4: If this is a come-from-behind victory opportunity, then you turn
- 25:28Speaker 4: into Superman.
- 25:29Speaker 3: And that's tough.
- 25:30Speaker 4: I always liken it to NBA talented, like super talented,
- 25:36Speaker 4: you-supposed-to-be-the-dude rookies, where it's like, hey, man, I'm out here
- 25:40Speaker 4: trying to prove this shit not only to the league,
- 25:43Speaker 4: but to my teammates and to myself. And you reach
- 25:46Speaker 4: that point where it's like, all right, I've proven this.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Now let's get to the more efficient game. And the
- 25:51Speaker 4: NFL seems like with these quarterbacks, these dudes are trying
- 25:55Speaker 4: to prove it to everybody also while.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Being told, hey, be more efficient immediately.
- 26:01Speaker 4: And the guys like Anthony Richardson, guys who come out
- 26:05Speaker 4: and be like, yo, how do you not make that work?
- 26:07Speaker 4: Or how does this not translate? And professionalism and all
- 26:12Speaker 4: these other things, that's cool. If Kat's out there, listen,
- 26:15Speaker 4: shout out to Cam Newton. But when I was in
- 26:18Speaker 4: Atlanta and Cam was a Carolina Panther, we called it
- 26:21Speaker 4: Cam Tuesdays because you understood that that was the man
- 26:26Speaker 4: and you.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Might see him in Atlanta. Even though he don't play
- 26:29Speaker 3: in Atlanta, right? He was the dude. You ain't going
- 26:31Speaker 3: to tell me about what a.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Dude can and can't do if he's producing at such
- 26:37Speaker 4: a high level. Now, if Caleb gets to the point
- 26:39Speaker 4: where he's producing at a high level, then yeah, maybe
- 26:42Speaker 4: all the stuff will come back. I want him to
- 26:43Speaker 4: be himself anyway, because in the end, if you're going
- 26:46Speaker 4: to fail, fail being yourself.
- 26:48Speaker 3: That's how I see it. That's what we tell each other. Like, yo,
- 26:51Speaker 3: don't be anybody else.
- 26:52Speaker 4: The problem is being himself might get him killed out
- 26:56Speaker 4: there sometimes. Or we might not find out, okay, he
- 27:00Speaker 4: strung these two, three, four games together, and now the
- 27:03Speaker 4: confidence can grow, not only in the fan base, but
- 27:05Speaker 4: in the people around him. Like, there's a lot of
- 27:07Speaker 4: pressure on that dude's shoulders, but this is what happens
- 27:10Speaker 4: when you are a bona fide superstar before you.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Ever play a game.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Like, they had him in the NFL Sunday night promo
- 27:17Speaker 4: week one, where they had the brick of quarterbacks behind
- 27:20Speaker 4: the Sunday night.
- 27:20Speaker 3: They had him as one of the dudes, and I'm like...
- 27:22Speaker 3: It's a lot. And I've told Chicago cats like we're
- 27:25Speaker 3: not used to this. Right. Shane Matthews don't get invited
- 27:28Speaker 3: to the Met Gala. You know what I'm saying?
- 27:31Speaker 4: Like Jim McMahon ain't out here running around going to
- 27:35Speaker 4: Paris Fashion Week.
- 27:36Speaker 3: He is not only he's not only ours, but he's everybody.
- 27:39Speaker 4: So you're going to have to you're going to have
- 27:40Speaker 4: to understand that to let him get his shit off.
- 27:44Speaker 3: You got to let him get his shit off, if
- 27:45Speaker 3: that makes sense.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Well, so I'll make this point before we go to
- 27:50Speaker 2: the break.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I was talking to somebody about the Cowboys, Doc, and
- 27:54Speaker 1: it said very briefly a very important part of that
- 27:57Speaker 1: San Francisco 49ers story, which was the transition from Joe
- 28:00Speaker 1: Montana to Steve Young, which was not a peaceful transition.
- 28:04Speaker 1: It came with a lot of levels to it, right?
- 28:06Speaker 1: But what people didn't realize was they went and got
- 28:09Speaker 1: Steve Young, I want to say it was in 1987
- 28:12Speaker 1: after Montana got his back hurt. And the expectation was
- 28:16Speaker 1: that Montana.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Was not going to be able to hold up.
- 28:19Speaker 1: The other part that's very important in it is Bill
- 28:22Speaker 1: Walsh firmly believed that Joe Montana was replaceable. And he
- 28:28Speaker 1: believed as long as you do what this offense says
- 28:33Speaker 1: to do, an offense, by the way, that doesn't have audibles.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Everything you need is built into the play in the
- 28:40Speaker 1: eyes of those West Coast guys, right?
- 28:41Speaker 2: Particularly the Walsh player.
- 28:43Speaker 1: And so the idea of moving on for Joe Montana
- 28:45Speaker 1: for him was nothing because he's like, what Joe Montana
- 28:48Speaker 1: did was what I told him to do. And then
- 28:50Speaker 1: if everything broke down, he'd scamper for a little bit.
- 28:53Speaker 1: And so he's like, if I can just teach Steve
- 28:55Speaker 1: Young to do everything I tell him to do. And
- 28:58Speaker 1: then at that time, he's probably the best athlete and
- 29:01Speaker 1: quarterback in the NFL. Then imagine what that could be.
- 29:04Speaker 1: And then Montana just can't be a man.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Get off me, dog.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Get off me, dog.
- 29:09Speaker 1: He kept doing that. And then Montana, I think, hurt
- 29:11Speaker 1: his elbow. I forget when is the back, when is
- 29:13Speaker 1: the elbow. But anyway, that's when Steve Young wound up
- 29:15Speaker 1: getting the job. But the point I'm making is A
- 29:18Speaker 1: lot of coaches, and Ben Johnson seems to fit this idea, just.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Believe all you need to do is what I say, right?
- 29:25Speaker 1: And all these guys, the Shanahan, McVay sort of school
- 29:29Speaker 1: of quarterback, of coaching, that believes that I just need
- 29:32Speaker 1: a quarterback to do what I told you to do.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Now, McVay ran out of road on that one with
- 29:37Speaker 2: Jerry Goff.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Yes, he did. I was going to say that.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Gotta, I gotta go get a dude. Right. And then,
- 29:43Speaker 2: and then he went and got a dude.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:45Speaker 1: And they wanted that one year. And that's another story
- 29:48Speaker 1: for this year. That, that dude and his bad back
- 29:52Speaker 1: and you know, what was going to wind up happening
- 29:53Speaker 1: with Stafford. But I say all that to say, I
- 29:56Speaker 1: don't know if hiring the coach who believes his system
- 29:59Speaker 1: trumps all was the right move for a player with
- 30:04Speaker 1: the kind of flexibility in what he does as Williams is.
- 30:07Speaker 1: The key to me, though, is you just got to
- 30:10Speaker 1: keep his head in the game because I do firmly
- 30:11Speaker 1: believe the more that I watch football, the more I
- 30:13Speaker 1: realize what's important for quarterbacks, whatever the reason is, is
- 30:16Speaker 1: the ability to see the throw and make the throw
- 30:19Speaker 1: the shortest distance. between see the throw and make the throw.
- 30:22Speaker 1: And then of course make it once you've done it,
- 30:24Speaker 1: but you know, connect, connect on it. But that time
- 30:27Speaker 1: difference is all the world's difference in the world. That's
- 30:31Speaker 1: why James Winston can look great when he doesn't look terrible.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Cause no matter what that boy decisive, you get that ball.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Out of there, bro. Conviction. Conviction, right? It catches all
- 30:40Speaker 3: the time.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Talk about the pitch that I want is never going
- 30:44Speaker 4: to be greater than the pitch you want to throw.
- 30:46Speaker 3: So if you.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Think that this fastball ain't going to get rocked, I
- 30:50Speaker 4: know it's going to get rocked. But shit, throw that bitch.
- 30:52Speaker 3: And that's exactly how you're supposed to go at it, man. Conviction.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Because in the end, you're going to go down in
- 30:58Speaker 3: a blaze of glory either way. Might as well.
- 31:00Speaker 4: And also, don't sleep on how much of a PR
- 31:03Speaker 4: move the Ben Johnson hire was as well. I don't
- 31:06Speaker 4: know in the time that I've been a Chicago Bears
- 31:08Speaker 4: fan if the Bears have ever done something where it's like, man,
- 31:11Speaker 4: we all want you to do this, but you're going
- 31:14Speaker 4: to draft Shady McClellan, right? This is Ben Johnson, and
- 31:18Speaker 4: we all looking at it like, nah, that don't happen
- 31:21Speaker 4: to the Bears, and it happened. So it's a PR move, too.
- 31:25Speaker 2: We're going to see, man, because big brain Ben.
- 31:28Speaker 3: James, I know.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I know.
- 31:30Speaker 2: He's good. He's good. He's good. He's good.
- 31:33Speaker 1: There's no question that he's good, right? I loved it
- 31:35Speaker 1: when we was out here throwing laterals to the offensive linemen.
- 31:38Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? I loved every minute of that.
- 31:42Speaker 3: I know.
- 31:42Speaker 1: But then when he had the worst decision maker in
- 31:45Speaker 1: the whole state of Michigan.
- 31:48Speaker 2: The one, hold up. And this is the part I
- 31:50Speaker 2: don't never talk about.
- 31:51Speaker 1: The one who had just started humping the ground after
- 31:55Speaker 1: he scored that touchdown.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Can you imagine? Look, man, football players love each other.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Because let me tell you something, man.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I ain't about to bear hug you while you're humping
- 32:02Speaker 1: the ground, but that's what the homies had to do
- 32:04Speaker 1: to save them 15 yards.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's going to be stapled to his
- 32:09Speaker 3: resume until something else happens.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Yeah, right after the placing bets from the facility.
- 32:17Speaker 3: You remember that?
- 32:19Speaker 4: You know, you got to have your players be able
- 32:21Speaker 4: to do all things. Maybe it was for Amon Ross St. Brown, and,
- 32:24Speaker 4: you know, he just went with Jameson on that one, man.
- 32:27Speaker 4: I don't know what to tell you, bro. You know,
- 32:28Speaker 4: welcome to Chicago. Bear football, man.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we're going to talk a little bit more

- 35:38Speaker 2: back with Jason Goff.
- 35:39Speaker 1: We talked a little bit there about America's team, hashtag
- 35:43Speaker 1: one pride, my Detroit Lions. And, you know, they lost
- 35:48Speaker 1: Ben Johnson. They lost Aaron Glenn, who's going to be
- 35:51Speaker 1: the head coach of the New York Jets, H-Town. Wishing
- 35:54Speaker 1: him the best up here with that squad. Although, they
- 35:57Speaker 1: still the Jets, brother. Just letting you know that right now, partner.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Nothing good is going to happen to you.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Yeah, look, man, you can't turn down the opportunity when
- 36:06Speaker 1: it comes, man.
- 36:07Speaker 2: But this is, you know what it is? There's a
- 36:09Speaker 2: difference between an opportunity and a chance. right he has.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Not been given an opportunity break it down.
- 36:16Speaker 1: He got a chance right sometimes you got a good
- 36:19Speaker 1: chance sometimes you got a not great chance sometimes the
- 36:22Speaker 1: chance is a slim an opportunity is an opportunity a
- 36:26Speaker 1: chance is on a spectrum and coaching the jets you
- 36:30Speaker 1: got a chance that's it you.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Got a chance to be a head coach you know
- 36:35Speaker 4: you got a chance to to brush up on your
- 36:37Speaker 4: You know, your press conference skills.
- 36:40Speaker 3: You got a shot. You got a shot, right?
- 36:42Speaker 4: You got a couple of, you know, come from behind
- 36:45Speaker 4: wins that may happen because you're not supposed to have
- 36:47Speaker 4: a chance.
- 36:48Speaker 5: Yes.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Aaron Glenn is one of those... Aaron Glenn, one of
- 36:51Speaker 3: my favorite football card guys, too, by the way.
- 36:54Speaker 4: Every time I opened up a pack of Upper Deck
- 36:56Speaker 4: or Fleer, I had good old number 31 wearing that
- 36:58Speaker 4: Jets green running around. So, shout out to Aaron Glenn.
- 37:01Speaker 4: And good facial hair guy, too, right?
- 37:04Speaker 3: Keeps himself well-maintained. I just.
- 37:06Speaker 4: You know, we're going to look back after this run
- 37:08Speaker 4: and it's going to look like a president's aging.
- 37:11Speaker 3: You know what I mean? We're going to look at him.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Let me tell you what Aaron Glenn also appears to
- 37:16Speaker 1: be to me. Aaron Glenn, and we talk a lot
- 37:19Speaker 1: about how you don't need to try your pops, but
- 37:21Speaker 1: he's especially the pops you don't need to try. This
- 37:23Speaker 1: man's what, like a five foot nine, five foot 10
- 37:25Speaker 1: football player. He clearly throwing up more weight than he
- 37:28Speaker 1: did when he was in the NFL. He is prepared.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Prepared.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Yeah. Now always ready. You know what I mean?
- 37:37Speaker 4: The kind of cat, like Aaron Glenn looks like one
- 37:40Speaker 4: of them dudes who walk up to you and the
- 37:43Speaker 4: cool sayings put you on alert, right? Like, okay, I
- 37:46Speaker 4: know who I, you know, hey, what's going on? Hey,
- 37:48Speaker 4: can't call it, I might spoil it. Like that kind
- 37:50Speaker 4: of guy.
- 37:51Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 37:52Speaker 4: Like, okay, he's being nice because he can and will
- 37:55Speaker 4: break you down to your lowest common denominator.
- 37:57Speaker 1: I wish that we had more cool phrases because he's
- 38:00Speaker 1: a little bit older than us, but I wish that
- 38:01Speaker 1: we had more cool phrases in our vernacular from that
- 38:04Speaker 1: time period. Because he absolutely like somebody that would go,
- 38:07Speaker 1: what's going on, man?
- 38:08Speaker 2: Ain't nothing, daddy-o. What's happening with you?
- 38:10Speaker 3: That's it. That's it.
- 38:11Speaker 2: He look like he got a bunch of nose in it.
- 38:14Speaker 3: Put you on notice that, hey, this can be a
- 38:16Speaker 3: good interaction. I'm a cool guy.
- 38:19Speaker 4: But I also come from a place where interactions sometimes switch.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Up in the middle of them.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Yeah, like, look, man.
- 38:24Speaker 3: I'm down.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Like, you see this stone cold fox right here that's
- 38:27Speaker 1: with me, brother man. We just out here trying to
- 38:28Speaker 1: have a nice time at dinner. But here you all
- 38:30Speaker 1: be here making all this noise.
- 38:32Speaker 3: You dig?
- 38:32Speaker 2: So I'm going to need you.
- 38:34Speaker 1: To quiet down before, with all due respect, I come
- 38:39Speaker 1: shut your ass up.
- 38:40Speaker 3: You feel me?
- 38:40Speaker 4: Hey, you just made me think of a moment where
- 38:45Speaker 4: I was at dinner probably a few years ago when
- 38:47Speaker 4: I first met my wife. And somebody was getting loud
- 38:51Speaker 4: at a table next to us. And old brother had
- 38:55Speaker 4: the dive hat on. He was looking fresh, you know,
- 38:57Speaker 4: had his gaiters.
- 38:58Speaker 3: This man leaned over and was like, hey, man.
- 39:01Speaker 4: Why would we mess around and make all these noise
- 39:04Speaker 4: in front of these ladies when we can just go
- 39:06Speaker 4: make some noise outside? And I looked at the person
- 39:09Speaker 4: who he was talking to and I was like, hey,
- 39:11Speaker 4: abort mission, gang.
- 39:12Speaker 3: Abort mission. This is not a man who said anything
- 39:16Speaker 3: about going to the trunk.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Please drop
- 39:20Speaker 2: that line again.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:23Speaker 4: He said, he looked over, he said, why would we
- 39:26Speaker 4: make all this noise in front of these ladies like
- 39:28Speaker 4: this when we can just go outside and make some.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Noise on our own? And I was like, oh, okay.
- 39:33Speaker 4: Because this implies that there's going to be noises coming
- 39:37Speaker 4: from outside.
- 39:38Speaker 3: We just don't need to upset the womenfolk about this.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 39:42Speaker 3: And that's when I was like, hey, man, send him
- 39:44Speaker 3: whatever he want from me. You know what I mean?
- 39:47Speaker 4: This is how you make friends in Chicago. Telling you,
- 39:49Speaker 4: I ain't want no problem. Then come to find out,
- 39:52Speaker 4: you know, custodial.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Arts, young man, you know what I mean? Yeah, OG,
- 39:57Speaker 3: he didn't want no problems. You know what I'm saying?
- 39:58Speaker 3: I'm on my second strike. I need to chill. You
- 40:02Speaker 3: know what I mean? We need more old cats like that.
- 40:04Speaker 3: But now.
- 40:04Speaker 4: You can't really talk to the young boys the way
- 40:06Speaker 4: you want to because the young boys will get out
- 40:08Speaker 4: of line.
- 40:09Speaker 3: We in that OG. You're right.
- 40:15Speaker 2: That is an amazing thing.
- 40:16Speaker 1: I know he didn't raise his voice even a little
- 40:18Speaker 1: bit when he said that.
- 40:20Speaker 3: It was a quiet place. We were in a place
- 40:24Speaker 3: that doesn't have noise. We weren't at Nobu where things
- 40:28Speaker 3: are crashing and everybody want to be... No, no, no.
- 40:30Speaker 3: We were at a sit-down You know what I mean?
- 40:32Speaker 3: Black napkin spot. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Let's stop making
- 40:36Speaker 3: this noise. I don't want the ladies to be upset
- 40:40Speaker 3: about what's about to happen right here.
- 40:42Speaker 4: You know, like when a man leads over and looks
- 40:45Speaker 4: at you and goes, I know what's going to happen
- 40:47Speaker 4: to you.
- 40:48Speaker 3: I just don't want the car ride back home to
- 40:50Speaker 3: be too shaky.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Because the thing is, because what's going to happen to
- 40:53Speaker 1: you is not going to stop me from completing my meal.
- 40:57Speaker 3: No, at all.
- 40:58Speaker 1: I'm going to do this thing with you. They're going
- 41:02Speaker 1: to come fold you up, and I'm going to sit
- 41:04Speaker 1: back down. And I'm going to be like, so what.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Will you say? Yeah, yeah. I already zelled the bail
- 41:10Speaker 3: money to my lady. You know what I'm saying?
- 41:13Speaker 2: Baby, they're going to be here in a couple of minutes.
- 41:15Speaker 2: When they come, be cool.
- 41:16Speaker 3: It's fine.
- 41:16Speaker 2: It ain't going to take long. Just call this number.
- 41:18Speaker 2: Call this mate.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Give my lamb chops to go. You know what to do.
- 41:22Speaker 3: But with the Lions....
- 41:27Speaker 2: This is where I'm torn on the Lions.
- 41:29Speaker 1: I think the part that we're forgetting about is the
- 41:33Speaker 1: reason that Washington beat them is they ran out of players.
- 41:36Speaker 1: They just kept going down guys, kept going down, kept
- 41:39Speaker 1: going down. Jerry Goff also did not have a great game,
- 41:41Speaker 1: but the real issue was they were depleted by injuries.
- 41:44Speaker 1: The question is whether or not they're going to be
- 41:46Speaker 1: a team that is similar to the 49ers where you
- 41:48Speaker 1: have to ask, are you down on injuries because of
- 41:51Speaker 1: something y'all be doing? Is this going to be a thing?
- 41:53Speaker 1: Because this is a crazy physical team And with the
- 41:56Speaker 1: mentality they got and the head coach they got, that's
- 41:59Speaker 1: the only question I have because they were down 20-something
- 42:02Speaker 1: dudes on IR or something like that to a point
- 42:04Speaker 1: last year.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Hutchinson is going to be back.
- 42:07Speaker 1: You presume it at a lot of these other, you know,
- 42:09Speaker 1: a lot of these other cats are going to be back.
- 42:11Speaker 1: They have so much talent top to bottom on that team.
- 42:15Speaker 1: But this is kind of the second year of their window.
- 42:18Speaker 1: They went to the NFC championship game last year. They
- 42:20Speaker 1: were the best team in the NFC, though. I think
- 42:22Speaker 1: if they had had to play the Eagles, it probably
- 42:24Speaker 1: wouldn't have gone the way that they wanted it to.
- 42:27Speaker 2: But I don't know what exactly to make. They're down
- 42:31Speaker 2: the two coordinators.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Like there've been so many changes, but I do believe
- 42:35Speaker 1: that as much as the coordinator thing mattered, nothing matters
- 42:38Speaker 1: more than the dude they got in charge, which you
- 42:40Speaker 1: never could have convinced me I would have been saying
- 42:41Speaker 1: like 10 years ago.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 42:43Speaker 4: Dan Campbell went from interim coach who was the tight
- 42:47Speaker 4: ends coach. We were like, Oh, look at this meathead
- 42:49Speaker 4: to look at this dude rallying the troops in a
- 42:53Speaker 4: way that, yeah, you got some talented Catholic.
- 42:56Speaker 3: Let's, let's not get it twisted.
- 42:57Speaker 1: I'm on Ross.
- 42:58Speaker 3: St. Brown is a fourth round pick.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Right? Like, Panay Sewell is one of the best players
- 43:02Speaker 4: in all of sports, not just football, right? So, like,
- 43:05Speaker 4: that's blue chip stuff right there. Noah Sewell, his brother,
- 43:08Speaker 4: plays for the Bears, actually pretty good linebacker as well.
- 43:11Speaker 3: But he's got David Montgomery.
- 43:12Speaker 4: This is an Iowa State Cyclone running back who people
- 43:15Speaker 4: thought in this city, all right, he's been ground to
- 43:17Speaker 4: the nubs. He ain't going to get much out of
- 43:19Speaker 4: him from there on. This dude put something in crazy people,
- 43:24Speaker 4: known as football players, that takes them to another level.
- 43:27Speaker 4: What you mentioned is so important, though. When you get
- 43:30Speaker 4: to the end of the season, after all the trick
- 43:32Speaker 4: plays have been run, after you done beat the hell
- 43:34Speaker 4: out of everybody and in the process beat the hell
- 43:37Speaker 4: out of yourselves, what do you.
- 43:39Speaker 3: Have to rely on?
- 43:40Speaker 4: And I think the Aiden Hutchinson thing is paramount. Like
- 43:44Speaker 4: the fact that that dude did, I think him as
- 43:48Speaker 4: a run defender is discounted in a way that a
- 43:51Speaker 4: lot of pass rushers don't.
- 43:52Speaker 3: You know, he gets sacks, but can he hold the edge?
- 43:56Speaker 3: Aiden Hutchinson's a damn good run defender.
- 43:58Speaker 4: They got some cats who, in Jameer Gibbs, like, there's
- 44:04Speaker 4: so much stardom and, like, oh, he going to get
- 44:07Speaker 4: 20 touchdowns every year now. Like, they're not going to
- 44:09Speaker 4: surprise anybody anymore, right? The Detroit Lions are here, and
- 44:13Speaker 4: it sounds weird to say that. I'm looking forward to
- 44:17Speaker 4: seeing how they come back from all those coaching departures.
- 44:20Speaker 3: Like, they lost Antoine Randall, at least. Lost Ben Johnson.
- 44:22Speaker 4: Lost Aaron Glenn. They lost a lot of people. But
- 44:25Speaker 4: that dude at the top, he puts up, man, he
- 44:28Speaker 4: make you feel like you can run through a wall
- 44:30Speaker 4: and then you run through that wall. It's just by
- 44:32Speaker 4: week 16, you're like, damn, I ran through about four
- 44:35Speaker 4: or five of them bitches.
- 44:35Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? Like, how many walls are
- 44:39Speaker 3: we going to run through? Like, when is the Super Bowl, right?
- 44:43Speaker 4: Right?
- 44:43Speaker 3: You know what I mean? The commanders, the commanders.
- 44:45Speaker 4: Upped and called them and had people run They can
- 44:48Speaker 4: mess around and go to the Super Bowl and the
- 44:49Speaker 4: Eagles is.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Like, nah, get that shit up out of here.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Hey, let me tell you, man.
- 44:54Speaker 1: The Lions, it probably felt good in the moment, but
- 44:59Speaker 1: the Lions being so injured might have done a disservice
- 45:02Speaker 1: to the commandos because the way we talk about what
- 45:06Speaker 1: is possible with them would have been tempered a little
- 45:09Speaker 1: bit differently if they had not won that game. And
- 45:14Speaker 1: my thing with Jayden Daniels is, let's see, I think
- 45:17Speaker 1: we saw enough to see in year one that he
- 45:20Speaker 1: will be a very good quarterback. That doesn't mean he
- 45:24Speaker 1: will be very good in year two. Like, we see
- 45:27Speaker 1: this happen with quarterbacks all the time, right? It's not
- 45:32Speaker 1: like a running back. A running back going to be here,
- 45:34Speaker 1: and then it's going to go here, and then one
- 45:36Speaker 1: day it's going to go like that.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Right?
- 45:37Speaker 1: But just about every other position in the NFL, you
- 45:40Speaker 1: can look at the numbers, you can look at the production,
- 45:43Speaker 1: and the numbers are going to tell you how good
- 45:45Speaker 1: that player was.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Quarterback is a little weird. It doesn't quite work that way.
- 45:51Speaker 1: And so winning that game against the depleted Detroit Lions,
- 45:55Speaker 1: that would have waxed that ass if they'd have had
- 45:58Speaker 1: all their players.
- 45:59Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 46:00Speaker 4: Well, the linear growth that you expect just because of sports, right?
- 46:06Speaker 4: The problem is with that position, that growth is happening
- 46:10Speaker 4: hopefully in a nurturing environment.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Look at C.J. Stroud. C.J.
- 46:13Speaker 4: Stroud lost linemen. He lost Nico Collins for a little bit.
- 46:17Speaker 4: He lost wide receivers. He lost tight end. And you're like,
- 46:20Speaker 4: what happened to C.J. Stroud?
- 46:21Speaker 3: C.J.
- 46:21Speaker 4: Stroud might have had as good a season as he
- 46:23Speaker 4: had in his rookie year, but numbers-wise, it didn't.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Feel that way.
- 46:26Speaker 4: And wins-wise, it didn't feel that way because we just think, oh,
- 46:30Speaker 4: you killed last year. You're supposed to kill this year. Well,
- 46:32Speaker 4: he killed last year because he was a rookie quarterback.
- 46:34Speaker 4: with everything going right around him, right? I don't care
- 46:37Speaker 4: what you want to say. Terry McLaurin signed a deal
- 46:39Speaker 4: after saying, hey, y'all, I'm the best thing smoking out here.
- 46:43Speaker 4: You go into a season like, all right, I got
- 46:45Speaker 4: to do this all over again. Debo Samuel, they made
- 46:48Speaker 4: so much fun of that man and his cakes.
- 46:52Speaker 3: Running around in them highlights, right?
- 46:54Speaker 4: That he came in the training camp slim and trim.
- 46:57Speaker 3: Like, there's a lot. The commanders ain't sneaking up on
- 47:00Speaker 3: anybody anymore. And then, you know, Jaden... and his.
- 47:03Speaker 4: Off season and people talking about the mom and just
- 47:06Speaker 4: stuff like this, all eyes on you fam. I don't
- 47:10Speaker 4: know that the commanders are going to be what they
- 47:12Speaker 4: were last year.
- 47:14Speaker 3: They might be, he might be a better player. They, hell,
- 47:17Speaker 3: they might be a better team.
- 47:18Speaker 4: I wouldn't be surprised if they take a step back
- 47:20Speaker 4: to a couple of wins, especially with the strength of
- 47:22Speaker 4: schedule that they got this year, as opposed to last year.
- 47:24Speaker 1: I just want to make this point about Debo Samuel
- 47:26Speaker 1: very quickly. Debo Samuel has made the pro bowl one
- 47:31Speaker 1: time and that was four years ago.
- 47:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:34Speaker 2: I'm just like.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Took a running back beating his entire career. And then
- 47:38Speaker 1: that's number two, right? Like, you can't... Like the same
- 47:40Speaker 1: thing that happened with Cam Newton as a quarterback. You
- 47:42Speaker 1: had to look at his aging arc like a running
- 47:44Speaker 1: back's aging arc. Now, Deebo didn't take nearly as many carries,
- 47:48Speaker 1: but I'm just saying that, like, we a little more
- 47:50Speaker 1: hyped up over him than his actual production.
- 47:54Speaker 3: See, his rock tree, though, Bo, his rock tree is carries.
- 47:57Speaker 3: His rock tree is zero, one, and two. Yeah. Ain't
- 48:02Speaker 3: no sluggos. Ain't no deep outs. What are we talking about?
- 48:06Speaker 4: Hey, you're about to catch this ball where the nickel
- 48:08Speaker 4: cornerback is breathing on you and that linebacker about to
- 48:11Speaker 4: take your head off.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Okay. Enjoy this six, seven yards. You might break one.
- 48:16Speaker 4: And when you break one, we're going to be, hey,
- 48:18Speaker 4: but those other three or four catches that you get
- 48:20Speaker 4: that are essentially carried, like that short passing game.
- 48:23Speaker 3: Is not for the weak.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Can you imagine if you looked at Marvin, well, the
- 48:29Speaker 4: name that won't be spoken on this pod, and Reggie
- 48:33Speaker 4: Wayne and them boys back then and.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Said, hey, we doing nothing but zero routes, smoke routes,
- 48:39Speaker 3: enjoy yourselves. What? You saw that New England playoff? Those
- 48:42Speaker 3: New England playoff games? And the boys was like, give
- 48:44Speaker 3: me a pillow. I'm about to lay right. I am
- 48:46Speaker 3: not paid to take hits. Now, if you a sly receiver,
- 48:50Speaker 3: promise you, you.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Gonna get that quote-unquote bell rung at least two, three
- 48:54Speaker 4: times a game because of how close to the line
- 48:56Speaker 4: of scrimmage you are. Deebo Samuel been taking throw carries
- 49:00Speaker 4: for his entire career.
- 49:01Speaker 3: His entire career.
- 49:03Speaker 4: And they lost Olamide Zaccheaus, who was a terrific part
- 49:06Speaker 4: of that team, too.
- 49:07Speaker 3: So, yeah, the NFC is.
- 49:08Speaker 4: super weird like I'm always in this like okay you
- 49:12Speaker 4: can't have a rematch in the Super Bowl but Philly
- 49:16Speaker 4: right and then who else What are we really talking about?
- 49:19Speaker 4: The Rams, you see their odds for Super Bowl glory.
- 49:23Speaker 4: The NFC's got this weird Eastern Conference, late 90s NBA
- 49:30Speaker 4: kind of vibe tour. It's like somebody going to come
- 49:32Speaker 4: out that thing and they're going to have to go
- 49:34Speaker 4: up against either Lamar, Josh, or Patrick Mahomes. But after Philly,
- 49:40Speaker 4: I don't know who you really say. Who's the second
- 49:42Speaker 4: best team or third best team in the NFC that
- 49:44Speaker 4: you are sure about?
- 49:46Speaker 2: The Detroit Lions.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Man, we just did this. Them boys are still broken
- 49:50Speaker 3: up from last year.
- 49:50Speaker 2: You asked me if I was sure. The Detroit Lions, right?
- 49:57Speaker 1: But number three might be, because I got something that
- 49:59Speaker 1: would hit you right quick, because I know we.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Got to get you out of here. Yeah, for sure.
- 50:01Speaker 1: But I'm going to just say right quickly.
- 50:05Speaker 2: I saw something where.
- 50:05Speaker 1: The books, one of the sports books has the Vikings
- 50:08Speaker 1: over under on Wednesdays here at eight and a half.
- 50:10Speaker 1: That to me is a canary in the coal mine.
- 50:13Speaker 1: And they want a lot of close games last year,
- 50:15Speaker 1: a lot of close games last year. They're throwing a
- 50:17Speaker 1: rookie quarterback out there. And we're going to see as
- 50:21Speaker 1: good as they were on defense schematically. We're going to
- 50:23Speaker 1: see how everybody else is maybe caught up to that
- 50:26Speaker 1: with them. But like, I think they're, they're not, I
- 50:28Speaker 1: think they should be better than the bears, but I
- 50:30Speaker 1: think they are closer to the bears than they are
- 50:32Speaker 1: to the lions and The Green.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Bay Packers, they got Micah Parsons.
- 50:37Speaker 1: And I want to take a moment right fast because
- 50:38Speaker 1: I may reference to Micah Parsons being an off-ball linebacker.
- 50:41Speaker 1: And I remember watching him as a rookie being an
- 50:42Speaker 1: off-ball linebacker and thinking I was pretty good. And then
- 50:45Speaker 1: the comments on YouTube told me I was crazy. And
- 50:47Speaker 1: then I looked a little bit more up and I'm like, oops,
- 50:50Speaker 1: my bad. The Michael Parsons thing is going to be
- 50:54Speaker 1: interesting to watch because they got two monster pass rushers, right?
- 50:56Speaker 1: They got Gary on one side. They're going to have him.
- 50:59Speaker 1: But teams are absolutely going to run on Michael Parsons
- 51:01Speaker 1: a lot. That's what they are going to do. But
- 51:03Speaker 1: they also have a quarterback who could take leap. Like
- 51:08Speaker 1: I'm in on him. I understand that it's a trick
- 51:10Speaker 1: or treat situation with Jordan Love. But I feel like.
- 51:16Speaker 1: the Josh Allen realm is possible with him, right? And
- 51:20Speaker 1: the reason I say that is he is starting from
- 51:22Speaker 1: a higher place than Josh Allen did.
- 51:24Speaker 2: Like where Josh Allen was and where.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Josh Allen got to, we cannot like, I crossed my
- 51:29Speaker 1: fingers on Anthony Richardson thinking something like that was possible
- 51:32Speaker 1: and you see how that has worked out so far.
- 51:34Speaker 1: But Jordan Love had a much higher floor than I
- 51:36Speaker 1: think you had with Allen and very similar physical characteristics,
- 51:41Speaker 1: physical traits and all of that stuff. And you know,
- 51:45Speaker 1: Allen started playing younger, but once Allen, once Love got
- 51:49Speaker 1: on the field, it took a little while to get
- 51:50Speaker 1: up to speed, but he was looking like a guy
- 51:52Speaker 1: in that class of player, right? This could be the
- 51:56Speaker 1: year with that guy. And they even went and took
- 51:58Speaker 1: a wide receiver in the first round, right?
- 52:00Speaker 4: And they had to. And looking at it now with
- 52:02Speaker 4: the injury. situation there, wide receiver room. They had to because,
- 52:07Speaker 4: you know, Christian Watson is a terrific player, but he's
- 52:09Speaker 4: going to miss five or six games, right? You know,
- 52:11Speaker 4: you got Dobbs, you got Jaden Reed. They got some
- 52:14Speaker 4: guys out there, but all of them have been banged
- 52:16Speaker 4: up this training camp.
- 52:17Speaker 3: You mentioned the Micah Parsons thing. Man, listen, you can
- 52:21Speaker 3: run at them all you want, right?
- 52:23Speaker 4: I love, I think Xavier McKinney is the best defensive
- 52:26Speaker 4: player that nobody talks about in the league. They got
- 52:28Speaker 4: a lot of talent and they have to win in
- 52:32Speaker 4: this next two years.
- 52:33Speaker 3: They have to. Because the money that they paying out,
- 52:36Speaker 3: you mentioned Rashawn Gary.
- 52:37Speaker 4: Who, by the way, one of them cats, like the
- 52:41Speaker 4: Rudy Gay vibes where it's like, you know how cold
- 52:43Speaker 4: he is in college, but he don't really have to
- 52:45Speaker 4: do it. And then you get to the league like, oh,
- 52:48Speaker 4: this is what college was holding back. Like he was
- 52:50Speaker 4: in Michigan, but he was like one of the, if
- 52:52Speaker 4: I'm not mistaken, he was like top.
- 52:53Speaker 3: Yeah, he was number one. And every week was like,
- 52:59Speaker 3: all right, here it come. He going to be a
- 53:00Speaker 3: game wrecker. And every week it was kind of like
- 53:02Speaker 3: flash here and there. Pressures.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Lots of pressures.
- 53:06Speaker 3: Almost sacks. You know what I mean? And now he
- 53:10Speaker 3: is one of the better edge players in the game.
- 53:12Speaker 4: Green Bay's got that whip. It's just, like you mentioned,
- 53:16Speaker 4: you know, Jordan Love does have a little Ben Roethlisberger
- 53:19Speaker 4: to his game.
- 53:20Speaker 3: Got a little double agent. Got a little double agent
- 53:22Speaker 3: to him. A little far.
- 53:23Speaker 2: A little far.
- 53:25Speaker 3: You know what he got in that?
- 53:27Speaker 2: That computer assistance. He got that. He got that. He
- 53:30Speaker 2: going to keep this close. He going to keep this close.
- 53:34Speaker 3: Tap that Y button on accident. And you sit there like, damn,
- 53:37Speaker 3: I hit the X button. No, no. You know what
- 53:40Speaker 3: I'm talking about. When you look down at the control, like, oh,
- 53:42Speaker 3: this is an Xbox. My bad. I keep doing this.
- 53:47Speaker 3: And sometimes it happens in the playoffs. That's the problem.
- 53:50Speaker 3: It happened. Jordan Love went on a streak of like
- 53:52Speaker 3: five games. He gets in the playoffs. He's like, X.
- 53:56Speaker 4: X again.
- 53:57Speaker 3: X again. We're going to get this X button rocking
- 54:00Speaker 3: unless y'all make a change. Oh, wait a minute. Game
- 54:03Speaker 3: is over? Three turnovers later?
- 54:05Speaker 4: Hey, man.
- 54:06Speaker 3: They call them J-Lo and J-No.
- 54:08Speaker 4: All I know is as a fan of the Chicago Bears,
- 54:11Speaker 4: it is far from me to be making fun of
- 54:13Speaker 4: anybody's quarterback situation.
- 54:16Speaker 3: And the Minnesota thing you mentioned.
- 54:18Speaker 4: Justin Jefferson, that lower leg injury, that hamstring situation that
- 54:23Speaker 4: he got going on. It's going to be the battle
- 54:25Speaker 4: of the two hurt dudes on Monday Night Football. Jalen
- 54:27Speaker 4: Johnson and Justin Jefferson. Both of them are going to
- 54:29Speaker 4: be on pitch counts because both of them got a
- 54:32Speaker 4: groin and a hamstring injury.
- 54:35Speaker 3: The NFC North is intriguing across the board. I'm looking
- 54:38Speaker 3: forward to it.
- 54:39Speaker 4: I'm glad we can stop watching and thinking about preseason
- 54:42Speaker 4: and training campings.
- 54:43Speaker 3: And get to some actual football, man. Nah, man.
- 54:45Speaker 2: We about to get to some games.
- 54:47Speaker 1: The Cowboys going to be there on Thursday night against
- 54:50Speaker 1: the Eagles.
- 54:50Speaker 2: It'll be so funny if the Cowboys win that game.
- 54:52Speaker 3: They're going to. You know they're going to. You know that.
- 54:56Speaker 2: I never know they're going to win anything.
- 54:59Speaker 4: This is what's going to happen. They're going to win
- 55:01Speaker 4: that game, right? Deron Bland is going to make a play.
- 55:04Speaker 3: That's right. And you know Jay is.
- 55:07Speaker 4: Going to be sitting there at the podium in the
- 55:09Speaker 4: third quarter like, hey, where's my camera at? Let me
- 55:14Speaker 4: tell Michael Parsons about what we don't need over here.
- 55:16Speaker 2: Well, let me tell you this, though.
- 55:17Speaker 1: The Eagles might need to be glad that Michael Parsons
- 55:19Speaker 1: ain't going to be there. Now, granted, he's on the
- 55:21Speaker 1: outside and the Eagles tackle game is strong, but Mekhi
- 55:24Speaker 1: Becton is not going to be on that line. Landon
- 55:26Speaker 1: Dickerson apparently is hurt. um, like they, this is not
- 55:30Speaker 1: the same exact team that they had. It is unreasonable
- 55:33Speaker 1: to expect Saquon Barkley at his age and the workload
- 55:37Speaker 1: that he has taken to be as good this year
- 55:39Speaker 1: as he was last year. For example, this, they are loaded.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Like there's no need to discuss. They probably have the
- 55:46Speaker 1: most talented roster in the NFL. But it ain't the
- 55:49Speaker 1: same roster that they had last year. And I'm really
- 55:52Speaker 1: curious to see what the margins are at the tippy top. Because, look,
- 55:56Speaker 1: the Rams gave them a game last year.
- 55:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:59Speaker 4: And on top of it, when those things, when that
- 56:03Speaker 4: formula is in the pot and you're looking at the
- 56:05Speaker 4: chef and you go, oh, we're missing this ingredient, we're
- 56:08Speaker 4: missing that ingredient.
- 56:09Speaker 3: You'd like for your chef to be Michelin star rated.
- 56:12Speaker 3: You tell me.
- 56:14Speaker 2: He's not. He's not. Hold on, hold on, hold on,
- 56:17Speaker 2: hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. That is
- 56:19Speaker 2: the thing about this, man.
- 56:21Speaker 1: I sent a tweet last year, early in the year,
- 56:23Speaker 1: I think it's when he got into it with the fans,
- 56:25Speaker 1: and I'm like, they just waiting to do the inevitable,
- 56:28Speaker 1: and they still won the championship. But my opinion of
- 56:30Speaker 1: this man has not changed. That's the thing I think
- 56:35Speaker 1: that's hard. They're so loaded that I don't think very
- 56:40Speaker 1: highly of their head coach. I don't think but so
- 56:43Speaker 1: highly of their quarterback. But I will say for the quarterback,
- 56:48Speaker 1: he does all the quarterback things with the finger quotes
- 56:51Speaker 1: that are very important. And with the head coach, he's
- 56:54Speaker 1: brash in the way where he will let his, like
- 56:56Speaker 1: unleash the talent that they wind up having and maybe
- 56:59Speaker 1: not try to cook everything up. But there's a range
- 57:06Speaker 1: of how this situation might go.
- 57:09Speaker 4: Over there. Mess around and go 10-7. And your security
- 57:14Speaker 4: guard being one of the more important people in your organization.
- 57:18Speaker 3: See how that plays.
- 57:19Speaker 2: See how that plays.
- 57:21Speaker 3: See if Big Dom can save you your gig. Yeah, man.
- 57:25Speaker 4: The Eagles are going to be a fun story to watch.
- 57:27Speaker 4: And also, you know, the banner night, they're not going
- 57:29Speaker 4: to be outside for it. Like, they all focused. All
- 57:33Speaker 4: I need, all I need is to go back to
- 57:35Speaker 4: the week of the playoffs where your number one wide
- 57:39Speaker 4: receiver was like, The passing game is the problem.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Yo, that did happen.
- 57:44Speaker 1: It is amazing to look back and realize that that.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Team won a championship.
- 57:50Speaker 3: Real Barry Switzer-led vibes around that thing.
- 57:52Speaker 1: All the stuff that we say is important, right? All
- 57:55Speaker 1: the things that we say are important. Got to have
- 57:57Speaker 1: a passing game these days. Got to have that kind
- 57:59Speaker 1: of quarterback. Got to have a head coach that everybody
- 58:01Speaker 1: believes in.
- 58:02Speaker 2: All of that stuff. They were like, no, what you
- 58:04Speaker 2: need is a bunch of dudes from Georgia.
- 58:06Speaker 3: That's it.
- 58:07Speaker 2: That's what you need. And a bunch of big offensive linemen.
- 58:10Speaker 3: That's it. It's a simple game that is made complex
- 58:13Speaker 3: by fools. You know what I mean?
- 58:15Speaker 4: That's the other thing that the old black homie said
- 58:18Speaker 4: to the dude he was going to go scrap outside
- 58:20Speaker 4: of the restaurant. Yeah, man.
- 58:22Speaker 3: Shout out to the Eagles. Shout out to all y'all
- 58:24Speaker 3: Eagles fans.
- 58:25Speaker 4: But it is never fun at the top until you
- 58:29Speaker 4: get back to the top. And the NFL is hard
- 58:32Speaker 4: to stay at the top. I look forward to seeing
- 58:35Speaker 4: what's going to happen in the NFC especially because, you know,
- 58:38Speaker 4: the Bears look and smell like an eight-win, seven-win team.
- 58:41Speaker 2: We should be happy about that.
- 58:43Speaker 3: No, for sure. For sure, man. You know, we building.
- 58:45Speaker 3: You know, it's like a HUD home.
- 58:48Speaker 1: That is Jason Goff. Check him out at The Ranger.
- 58:52Speaker 1: My brother, I appreciate you.
- 58:55Speaker 3: Always. Hey, Bo, it's always a treat when two players meet.
- 58:59Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying?
- 59:01Speaker 2: I appreciate that, big dog. You know what I'm saying?
- 59:03Speaker 1: People just don't understand, man. Just a couple cats trying
- 59:06Speaker 1: to play it easy. You understand what I'm talking about,
- 59:08Speaker 1: big dog?
- 59:08Speaker 3: That's it. That's it.
