- 3:14Speaker 6: for one more week, let's go and check out the hills,
- 3:18Speaker 6: the dales, the hollers of West Virginia and talk to
- 3:21Speaker 6: our man Rob Reel from our sister station in ninety
- 3:23Speaker 6: six one KWS, who was continuing with October sponsored by
- 3:27Speaker 6: Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration. He's walking that big old check
- 3:30Speaker 6: from our studios here at eleven eleven, all the way
- 3:32Speaker 6: at the WVU Children's Hospital in Morgantown. Rob, Good morning,
- 3:36Speaker 6: Welcome to the show. Where does this morning find you, sir?
- 3:40Speaker 7: So I set out from Baldwin this morning. It didn't
- 3:45Speaker 7: even occur to me late yesterday that I passed the
- 3:47Speaker 7: halfway mark. So when I started this morning, I had
- 3:50Speaker 7: eighty seven miles down and eighty five and a half
- 3:54Speaker 7: to go. I'm now getting closer to eighty I'm starting
- 3:59Speaker 7: to feel as though, on my i'd actually make it.
- 4:01Speaker 7: It's a twenty mile hunk from the starting point to
- 4:05Speaker 7: Weston today the last, well at least what should be
- 4:08Speaker 7: the last twenty mile day of October with panhandle cleaning
- 4:12Speaker 7: and restoration.
- 4:14Speaker 6: So how are you feeling? That's the big question everybody
- 4:16Speaker 6: asked me. Somebody actually asked me about that this morning.
- 4:19Speaker 6: That guy that's on the radio with you, that's that idiot,
- 4:22Speaker 6: I mean, that guy that's walking. How is he doing?
- 4:25Speaker 8: So?
- 4:25Speaker 4: Overall?
- 4:26Speaker 6: How are you holding up?
- 4:27Speaker 7: Mister Reeal They shoot horses, don't they? No, you know,
- 4:33Speaker 7: all things considered, I'm doing okay for a guy who's
- 4:36Speaker 7: going to be fifty one just after this thing, and
- 4:40Speaker 7: I feel as though I'm doing all right. My feet
- 4:43Speaker 7: are not real happy with me. The other parts of
- 4:46Speaker 7: my body that I expected to be in some pain
- 4:52Speaker 7: are but little topical analgesic. I'm doing okay. There. I
- 4:57Speaker 7: have solved the one issue we talked about earlier with
- 5:01Speaker 7: a change in my gear and my routine. So tags
- 5:05Speaker 7: are moving along smoothly, and that means two things.
- 5:10Speaker 6: The chafing issue. That's that's the issue that we've had,
- 5:13Speaker 6: the chafing issue.
- 5:15Speaker 9: How's the chafing that was the seventies movie, wasn't it
- 5:18Speaker 9: like the Andromeda strain the chafing? Yeah, yeah, yeah, the
- 5:23Speaker 9: chafing of Fellow one, two three. So yeah, that has
- 5:26Speaker 9: mostly been that has mostly been solved, and now it's just,
- 5:31Speaker 9: you know, it's been really difficult, especially on this stretch
- 5:34Speaker 9: of one nineteen and thirty three has been not stopping
- 5:38Speaker 9: every five feet to take another picture of the glorious mountain.
- 5:42Speaker 7: Mama's showing off it is. I have tried to keep it.
- 5:47Speaker 7: I've tried to keep it to a minimum on our
- 5:49Speaker 7: social media, but they're just there are so many good
- 5:51Speaker 7: views in vistas.
- 5:53Speaker 6: And by the way, I mentioned this, if you haven't
- 5:55Speaker 6: had an opportunity, if you don't do so, make sure
- 5:57Speaker 6: you follow ninety six one on Facebook because Rob has
- 6:01Speaker 6: been posting some absolutely beautiful, beautiful pictures and again, you
- 6:06Speaker 6: couldn't ask for better weather. We don't know what it's
- 6:08Speaker 6: going to be next week, although looking at the extended
- 6:10Speaker 6: forecast it actually looks pretty good next week, well a
- 6:12Speaker 6: little bit warm. It's actually gonna be a little bit
- 6:14Speaker 6: cooler today before it warms back up. And again the
- 6:16Speaker 6: whole idea behind this, and a big shout out to
- 6:19Speaker 6: the folks that Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration. They're sponsoring this walk.
- 6:22Speaker 6: We raised we meaning you know, the company raised X
- 6:26Speaker 6: amount of dollars for the WVU Children's Hospital. And Rob
- 6:29Speaker 6: agreed that if we got over because it was flagging
- 6:31Speaker 6: a little bit, Rob said to our listeners, if you
- 6:34Speaker 6: put us over the top, I will walk that check,
- 6:37Speaker 6: literally walk it from Charleston to our studios here all
- 6:40Speaker 6: the way to WVU Children's Hospital in Morgantown. And that
- 6:42Speaker 6: is just what he has done. And absolutely some beautiful,
- 6:45Speaker 6: beautiful pictures out there because you're seeing mother Nature and
- 6:48Speaker 6: you're seeing West Virginia and all her finery.
- 6:49Speaker 7: Robert, I don't know if I deserve the credit for
- 6:53Speaker 7: getting us over last year's total, but I'm absolutely gonna
- 6:56Speaker 7: take it. I think that is a fair trade for
- 6:59Speaker 7: walking my happy self one hundred and seventy two miles
- 7:01Speaker 7: with his big old chat.
- 7:03Speaker 6: Look who just happened to step into the studio here, Rob,
- 7:06Speaker 6: It is our man from our sister station to beat
- 7:08Speaker 6: what he woulds is.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Here, Hey, Ron, Hey, what out drou how your feet feeling?
- 7:17Speaker 7: They're gonna spend a lot of time elevated when this
- 7:19Speaker 7: is all over. I'm sorry I got to miss trigger
- 7:21Speaker 7: Beat tonight.
- 7:22Speaker 5: Man, you're doing a better cause than anything trigger Beat
- 7:25Speaker 5: can bring to this community. Man, we appreciate you. And
- 7:28Speaker 5: this is something I never seen in radio. A guy
- 7:30Speaker 5: walking a check. How many miles is that?
- 7:33Speaker 7: One hundred and seventy two?
- 7:34Speaker 6: Good lord, man, he's i'd have been quit and he's
- 7:36Speaker 6: in about twenty About twenty miles a day on average,
- 7:39Speaker 6: is what he's doing right now.
- 7:40Speaker 7: Today should be the last twenty day.
- 7:41Speaker 6: And he was in downtown Baldwin, West Virginia. That's what's
- 7:45Speaker 6: what he told me earlier. He's hoping you're in and
- 7:46Speaker 6: Weston is where you hoping to be tonight, right.
- 7:49Speaker 7: Yes, sir, And I've already gotten a few suggestions on
- 7:52Speaker 7: where to grab a burger in a milkshake. All right,
- 7:54Speaker 7: So I'm ready to go.
- 7:55Speaker 6: All right, Rob, be safe out there. And again, what
- 7:58Speaker 6: he's not traveling the interest because they wouldn't le himrave
- 8:00Speaker 6: all the interstate. He's got it. He's doing all the
- 8:01Speaker 6: back roads. Oh my god, So the hills the Hill,
- 8:04Speaker 6: the Hills to Dal's go check out his pictures. Man
- 8:06Speaker 6: on the on the on the on the Superstar Country
- 8:10Speaker 6: ninety six to one Facebook page. All right, Rob, be safe.
- 8:12Speaker 6: We'll check in with you again tomorrow morning. Man, thanks
- 8:14Speaker 6: a lot, Yes, sure, thank you Rob. Real again. He's
- 8:18Speaker 6: out there walking that big old check woodrow.
- 8:20Speaker 4: I don't even like to drive that backway. He's walking.
- 8:23Speaker 6: He's walking. God bless West Virginia rich in collaboration with
- 8:26Speaker 6: Honeys and invite you to witness the transformative power of
- 8:29Speaker 6: Special Olympics. Take a few moments to be inspired and
- 8:31Speaker 6: to join the collective effort to make it a difference.
- 8:33Speaker 6: Not just a story, it's a movement of hope, inclusivity
- 8:36Speaker 6: and trying for reminding us all that every individual deserves
- 8:38Speaker 6: a chance to shine at West Virginia and beyond Huntings
- 8:40Speaker 6: and truly making a difference right here at home. See
- 8:42Speaker 6: of video highlighting the Special Olympics at Facebook dot com,
- 8:45Speaker 6: Science five ad w c HS. And that voice you
- 8:48Speaker 6: hear is of the Hall of Famer. Now, well, it
- 8:51Speaker 6: could be or could be Chris, or could be Stephen, Jenny.
- 8:54Speaker 6: We got a lot of them in this building, but
- 8:55Speaker 6: it's the latest you and Jeff both win in this
- 8:57Speaker 6: year with Uh, well, it doesn't matter.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Chairs than it.
- 9:03Speaker 6: That's the one thing that I've learned about this new
- 9:04Speaker 6: studio is that you can't see your You just see
- 9:07Speaker 6: the top of their head. I just see that West
- 9:09Speaker 6: Virginia State hat on on that big onion of viewers
- 9:13Speaker 6: this morning. Yellow jackets go, yellowjackets. All right? So what
- 9:16Speaker 6: he woods is here tonight is trick or bag slango law,
- 9:18Speaker 6: trick or beat over at Gomart Ballpark. I just checked
- 9:20Speaker 6: with Tracy upstairs. The six o'clock tickets are starting to
- 9:24Speaker 6: run a little short, not out. Uh there was actually
- 9:27Speaker 6: in the time I was talking to Tracy, there was
- 9:29Speaker 6: like five different people that came in to get those tickets.
- 9:31Speaker 6: You do have to have a ticket ahead of time.
- 9:33Speaker 6: It's free of charge. One poor lady tried to pay.
- 9:35Speaker 6: I took her money, but but you didn't know. And
- 9:38Speaker 6: it's free of charge. And parents don't have to have
- 9:41Speaker 6: no sense, it's just the kids. But no, no, no, you
- 9:44Speaker 6: go ahead.
- 9:45Speaker 5: You the reason why we do the tickets because the
- 9:47Speaker 5: tickets will actually get the pizza, because you know how
- 9:50Speaker 5: if you don't give a child a ticket they might
- 9:53Speaker 5: come up six or seven times, so you got to
- 9:56Speaker 5: keep your ticket to get the pizza. That's why we
- 9:59Speaker 5: need That's why we need the tickets.
- 10:01Speaker 4: And parents.
- 10:01Speaker 5: I We've been doing this eighteen years. I'm so sorry
- 10:04Speaker 5: that pizza is going to the kids. And the kid
- 10:07Speaker 5: yeah yeah, put that down. Yeah, please come on, Grandma,
- 10:09Speaker 5: I'll put that down.
- 10:10Speaker 4: The trip I need aperoni.
- 10:15Speaker 6: It's all for the kids. Two Sessions six and seven thirty.
- 10:18Speaker 6: Explain to the people how this whole thing started years
- 10:21Speaker 6: and years and years ago.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Long time ago.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Man, before it was any events like in uh trunk
- 10:26Speaker 5: or tree or it was just anything that does trigger treating.
- 10:31Speaker 5: It was just eighteen years ago. Lisa Lee, she ext
- 10:34Speaker 5: her son boog that's crazy.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Wow.
- 10:37Speaker 5: We was like, yo, we just want to do something
- 10:39Speaker 5: that's safe, that's fun. We was gonna try to block
- 10:43Speaker 5: off Virginia Street and do it. Then Andy Milovich over
- 10:45Speaker 5: at the ballpark said no, let's do it over here
- 10:47Speaker 5: as well. Led you got bathrooms, we got a concourse,
- 10:50Speaker 5: and it started. Brother started with like uh, maybe four
- 10:54Speaker 5: or five sponsors. I remember getting pizza from everywhere. I'm
- 10:57Speaker 5: talking about like it was just we going to pop
- 10:59Speaker 5: a Jaz. We going to pizza. Huh, were going to Geno.
- 11:02Speaker 5: We're going because it was new, nobody knew about it.
- 11:05Speaker 5: And and to be honest, people like, Yo, what are
- 11:07Speaker 5: you doing Woodie?
- 11:08Speaker 10: What?
- 11:09Speaker 4: Well, y'all can't pull this off?
- 11:10Speaker 5: I said, watch, and eighteen years later, I will say,
- 11:14Speaker 5: this is the biggest radio event that I ever seen
- 11:18Speaker 5: in the market. Like literally, not like a concert. This
- 11:22Speaker 5: is a radio event. This is a radio promotion. And
- 11:26Speaker 5: I'll put it up against anything, against anybody in the state.
- 11:29Speaker 5: And it's just one of those things, Dave. It's not
- 11:32Speaker 5: about us behind the scenes. It's about the people that
- 11:34Speaker 5: come out. And it's just a beautiful thing. How you
- 11:37Speaker 5: see eighteen years ago that child six. Now you do
- 11:41Speaker 5: the math twenty four and she's walking her child through
- 11:44Speaker 5: tricker beat, and it's just amazing how this thing came apart.
- 11:47Speaker 5: And I thank god that I'm still around to see this. Man,
- 11:50Speaker 5: it's so amazing.
- 11:51Speaker 6: Two sessions time against six and at seven thirty. You
- 11:54Speaker 6: do need to get your tickets. Now we're gonna cut
- 11:56Speaker 6: off tickets.
- 11:56Speaker 11: I know.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Normally we say during normal business hours between you know,
- 11:59Speaker 6: let's say nine and five, But in order to give
- 12:02Speaker 6: us time to get over there. Did you talk to
- 12:04Speaker 6: Tracy to see if we were gonna have to cut
- 12:05Speaker 6: them off a little sooner or I think they'll be
- 12:07Speaker 6: gone by noon by okay?
- 12:09Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 12:09Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 12:09Speaker 4: Possibly yeah.
- 12:10Speaker 5: And if not, Hey, Dave, we had these tickets up
- 12:13Speaker 5: there for two months. If you just wait and waited
- 12:15Speaker 5: and waited and waited, I'm so sorry, brother, And it
- 12:19Speaker 5: is what it is, and we're gonna have a good
- 12:20Speaker 5: time and we the there's gonna be about three thousand.
- 12:23Speaker 6: Kids, three thousand kids tonight.
- 12:25Speaker 4: If you times that they at least got to come
- 12:27Speaker 4: with a parent. How many people is that?
- 12:28Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 12:28Speaker 6: Yeah, how many people?
- 12:29Speaker 2: A lot?
- 12:30Speaker 6: It's a lot. It's a lot. It's a lot. It's
- 12:33Speaker 6: a lot. It's a lot.
- 12:34Speaker 4: All right.
- 12:35Speaker 6: Unfortunately, I'm not gonna be able to be there tonight
- 12:36Speaker 6: because I really know, I've got a yeah on on
- 12:39Speaker 6: on KWS. I've got an event in Putnam County, but
- 12:41Speaker 6: I'm talking about that a little bit later.
- 12:43Speaker 8: On.
- 12:43Speaker 6: Uh, get over there and see get the number one.
- 12:45Speaker 6: Get come to Virginia Street, come to our office here
- 12:47Speaker 6: to eleven eleven, and get those tickets. That's the important thing,
- 12:49Speaker 6: because you got to have a ticket. Parents don't need one. Kids,
- 12:52Speaker 6: do no charge the tickets. Big props to the folks
- 12:55Speaker 6: at Selango lost no tibe a sponsor, and so many
- 12:57Speaker 6: other great sponsors have made this post. I mean so many.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Can I say something, Yeah, yeah, We had a car
- 13:04Speaker 5: dealership that kind of went out of business, that did
- 13:06Speaker 5: it for six or seven years, and I called Ben,
- 13:09Speaker 5: just called him, this Stark County Commissioner.
- 13:11Speaker 4: I'm like, yo, let me say.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Being answer the phone, I said, mister Selango, we need help,
- 13:14Speaker 5: we need it, we need a title spot. So he said, hey,
- 13:17Speaker 5: call such and such let's get it done. And not
- 13:19Speaker 5: only he said that, he said he wanted for the
- 13:21Speaker 5: rest of the remaining time that he got his law farm.
- 13:24Speaker 4: And that's gonna be millions of years.
- 13:25Speaker 5: So shout out to Ben, Shout out to Terror, shout
- 13:27Speaker 5: out to uh selangog all the folks over there.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Man, We really appreciate them, guys.
- 13:32Speaker 6: And the weather's gonna be fantastic, So get out there
- 13:34Speaker 6: and enjoy it. Trick or be tonight to go Mark Ballpark.
- 13:37Speaker 6: What he was, I appreciate you taking time out of
- 13:39Speaker 6: your schedule to leave. Well, no, I'm gonna stick around
- 13:42Speaker 6: for the other interviews. If you want to, I don't
- 13:43Speaker 6: hang out. Senator Amy Nicole Grady is actually on hold now.
- 13:47Speaker 6: We're going to talk to her about pe I A
- 13:48Speaker 6: and then Cutton County Clik Brian, what I don't care?

- 16:19Speaker 6: know why not? So he's going to what he's going
- 16:21Speaker 6: to be with me for their I guess till you
- 16:23Speaker 6: got I know what you're doing. What they're getting the
- 16:26Speaker 6: candy ready upstairs and you don't want to have to help.
- 16:28Speaker 4: I don't have to carry the candy radios.
- 16:30Speaker 6: All right, all right, I want to spend a little
- 16:32Speaker 6: bit of time talking about p I A again. My
- 16:34Speaker 6: guest this morning's got a unique perspective is she's not
- 16:37Speaker 6: only a recipient of p e i A. She's a
- 16:39Speaker 6: public school teacher, but she's also a member of the
- 16:41Speaker 6: West Virginia legislatorists. Bring in Senator Amy Nicole Grady. Senator Grady,
- 16:45Speaker 6: good morning, welcome to the.
- 16:46Speaker 8: Show, Good morning day, thanks for having me today.
- 16:49Speaker 6: And of course Senator Grady is a classroom teacher. She
- 16:52Speaker 6: is actually in the classroom, but she is on her
- 16:54Speaker 6: planning period, right, That's exactly right.
- 16:58Speaker 8: My children are enjoying PE time right now. I wish
- 17:00Speaker 8: I was down there too, but my knees don't allow
- 17:03Speaker 8: me to do that so much.
- 17:04Speaker 6: Well, you could be like our man Rob Real. You
- 17:06Speaker 6: know who's walking from Charles to Morgantown. You know, you
- 17:09Speaker 6: know he's doing that for wu children. He's made it.
- 17:11Speaker 6: He's about halfway there. He's to Weston right now.
- 17:14Speaker 8: Well, I think this is a good week to do it.
- 17:16Speaker 8: He chose a good time because I can't remember October,
- 17:18Speaker 8: this late in October being this warm in the past. Yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 8: so it was a good timing. Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 6: And I've also got in studio with me with me
- 17:24Speaker 6: this morning, wood he woulds because tonight is trick or
- 17:26Speaker 6: Beat over at Gomart Ballpark. And I got Woody out
- 17:28Speaker 6: of bed and he said, well, I may as well
- 17:30Speaker 6: just hang out so you may hear of the voice
- 17:32Speaker 6: of the now Hall of Famer Woody Woods from the
- 17:34Speaker 6: beat from time to time.
- 17:35Speaker 16: Two.
- 17:35Speaker 8: Senator, I was listening, Dave. I was listening. I heard
- 17:38Speaker 8: him say he wanted to stay on, and I thought, well,
- 17:40Speaker 8: that's great because what he brings a lot of great energy.
- 17:42Speaker 8: How you doing today, Woody?
- 17:43Speaker 4: I'm great. How you doing good?
- 17:45Speaker 8: Thank you great?
- 17:46Speaker 4: Thank you?
- 17:46Speaker 6: All right, so let's get to it. I've done a
- 17:47Speaker 6: little research on this, Senator, and if I have something wrong,
- 17:51Speaker 6: please correct me. But you were kind enough to provide
- 17:53Speaker 6: me some addition, some materials, and I did some work
- 17:55Speaker 6: on my own Senate Bill two sixty eight. When this
- 17:58Speaker 6: When was this bill pass and what was it intended
- 18:01Speaker 6: to do so?
- 18:03Speaker 8: And Senegal two sixty eight was in twenty twenty three,
- 18:06Speaker 8: so in the session twenty twenty three, not this past session,
- 18:08Speaker 8: so you know, about a little over almost two years ago,
- 18:12Speaker 8: and the intent was to bring Peia back to solvency.
- 18:15Speaker 8: So you know, go back to that eighty twenty split
- 18:18Speaker 8: where the state pays eighty percent and the policy holders
- 18:20Speaker 8: paid to twenty percent. You know, and I know we
- 18:23Speaker 8: all know that for about six years, the governor froze
- 18:25Speaker 8: Peia premium increases, so there was no increase for about
- 18:29Speaker 8: six years prior to this. You know, as you stated
- 18:33Speaker 8: earlier that I'm a policy holder, so you know, when
- 18:35Speaker 8: I had to vote on something knowing that I was
- 18:37Speaker 8: going to have a premium increase, I was voting on
- 18:39Speaker 8: an increase for myself as well, right in my family.
- 18:42Speaker 8: And it was difficult for me because I looked at
- 18:44Speaker 8: it and thought, you know, what's the responsible thing to do,
- 18:47Speaker 8: right Dave. We we could kick the candy on the
- 18:49Speaker 8: road a little bit further and say that's gonna be
- 18:51Speaker 8: somebody else's problem for another time. But with the premium
- 18:54Speaker 8: increases being frozen at that time, healthcare costs did not freeze, right,
- 18:58Speaker 8: so things were going up. And if we kicked the
- 19:00Speaker 8: can down the road further, we're just going to see
- 19:02Speaker 8: larger increases in larger increases, in larger increases, So it
- 19:04Speaker 8: was it was a time to do something about it.
- 19:07Speaker 8: It was the time, and you know, we voted to
- 19:10Speaker 8: bring it back to the eighty twenty split, and we
- 19:13Speaker 8: were told, you know, that would prevent large increases on
- 19:15Speaker 8: policy holders, but without doing it, that those large increases
- 19:19Speaker 8: were certain, they could expect, you know, like a ten
- 19:21Speaker 8: and a half percent increase in the coming years, which
- 19:24Speaker 8: you know, that really aligns really along with what healthcare
- 19:27Speaker 8: costs are. You're expected to see an increase in your
- 19:30Speaker 8: premiums the more that you use the insurance, of course,
- 19:32Speaker 8: and also with the cost of health care. So I thought,
- 19:35Speaker 8: you know, it was a hard it was a hard decision,
- 19:37Speaker 8: but I knew it was the right thing to do.
- 19:38Speaker 8: It was a responsible thing to do, and not just
- 19:41Speaker 8: use it as a political football. We'd like to use
- 19:43Speaker 8: that term sometimes that Pia has been right in the past.
- 19:46Speaker 8: And so it was my understanding this would take care
- 19:50Speaker 8: of the issue. And here we are, you know what,
- 19:52Speaker 8: eighteen months later, and they are proposing a lot of
- 19:55Speaker 8: other increases.
- 19:56Speaker 6: And you know, and I've had Fred Albert last week
- 19:58Speaker 6: on Senator from American Federation of Teachers and I pose
- 20:02Speaker 6: this question to him. It seems we've been talking about
- 20:05Speaker 6: pe i a in some way former fashion to quote
- 20:08Speaker 6: the governor, long before Senator Grady was in office, long
- 20:12Speaker 6: before you know, the Republicans out of control. That's been
- 20:14Speaker 6: every year in the news. You can count on, if
- 20:17Speaker 6: you cover the legislature, you can count on there being
- 20:19Speaker 6: issues with Peia no matter who, no matter who is OCCU,
- 20:23Speaker 6: no matter who's in charge, no matter who occupies the
- 20:25Speaker 6: governor's manage or whatever. It seems like it's a problem
- 20:27Speaker 6: every year.
- 20:27Speaker 8: Senator Yeah, I agree with that, David Is. And you know,
- 20:31Speaker 8: because a lot of you want to make sure that
- 20:33Speaker 8: everybody's taken care of. We want to make sure everybody,
- 20:35Speaker 8: all of our state employees are taken care of and
- 20:38Speaker 8: have good insurance, but also have affordable insurance, right, and
- 20:40Speaker 8: that's what everybody wants, you know. They're kicking around the
- 20:43Speaker 8: idea of we've kicked it around for a couple of
- 20:45Speaker 8: years of looking at privatizing it. I don't know if
- 20:47Speaker 8: that's the right answer. I don't know if it's the
- 20:49Speaker 8: wrong answer, you know, but it is something maybe we
- 20:51Speaker 8: need to look at and see if the if the
- 20:53Speaker 8: state needs to get out of the insurance business. But
- 20:57Speaker 8: with that, I say we looked at you know, when
- 21:00Speaker 8: people take a state job, the pay is lower than
- 21:04Speaker 8: say private industry, and one of those benefits is that
- 21:07Speaker 8: the benefit package you receive, including your healthcare costs, are
- 21:10Speaker 8: a little bit lower than what you would get in
- 21:12Speaker 8: a private industry industry. So you're trading off your higher
- 21:16Speaker 8: salary for a good benefit package. And so I think
- 21:18Speaker 8: we have to look at that and make sure that
- 21:20Speaker 8: we keep that balanced because we're not making as much
- 21:23Speaker 8: as state employees as we would in a private in
- 21:24Speaker 8: a private business.
- 21:26Speaker 6: But Dave Valance showing five any line brought to you
- 21:27Speaker 6: appirted by Bridge Valley. If you're interested in proving your

- 21:37Speaker 6: also supply to go to graduates and apprenticeships for your company.
- 21:40Speaker 6: Visit Bridge Value dot eedu slash Apprenticeships today. And I
- 21:42Speaker 6: think that is a very very interesting point what you
- 21:45Speaker 6: brought up, and I talked about this with various individuals
- 21:49Speaker 6: on the show, and that is is that there was
- 21:51Speaker 6: a time when Okay, state employees don't make that much money,
- 21:55Speaker 6: but look at the benefits or look at the time
- 21:57Speaker 6: off or whatever. But now if you start if those
- 22:00Speaker 6: if those benefits start not being a factor anymore, you
- 22:03Speaker 6: start losing more and more people, possibly to the private sector.
- 22:06Speaker 6: And we've got so many openings right now in state government.
- 22:09Speaker 6: I mean, they talk about the bloating of state government
- 22:12Speaker 6: state government employees, you know, and that has been the
- 22:15Speaker 6: case in some positions and in some offices. But there's
- 22:17Speaker 6: a whole lot of openings for people that would get
- 22:21Speaker 6: pea care right now. I mean you talked to I
- 22:23Speaker 6: mean the state the government is struggling to find employees
- 22:26Speaker 6: just as much, Senator as any other private.
- 22:28Speaker 8: Employer is, right absolutely, And you know, private employers have
- 22:32Speaker 8: the opportunity to provide a higher salary. So you look
- 22:35Speaker 8: at that and it is a struggle, you know, And
- 22:38Speaker 8: it's a struggle. And I'm not saying that we're the
- 22:39Speaker 8: only states of struggling with that, because I'm sure other
- 22:41Speaker 8: states are as well. I just want to make sure
- 22:45Speaker 8: that we are making good decisions for the people. I
- 22:47Speaker 8: think PIA has come up with some different plans. You know,
- 22:50Speaker 8: their original plan that proposed increases, there were a lot
- 22:54Speaker 8: of huge increases, and in the last week or so,
- 22:57Speaker 8: I think I've seen some things where they've they tried
- 22:59Speaker 8: to kind of tailor that down a little bit. So
- 23:01Speaker 8: I'm hoping that they're making some changes based on input
- 23:03Speaker 8: they're getting and feedback that they're getting, you know, So
- 23:06Speaker 8: we don't know what it's going to be, but those
- 23:08Speaker 8: those public hearings are really important. So they need to
- 23:10Speaker 8: hear from people to go and tell how this is
- 23:13Speaker 8: going to affect their lives, you know. And I look
- 23:15Speaker 8: at our retirees and those are the ones that I
- 23:17Speaker 8: think we'll see maybe will hurt the most because they've
- 23:20Speaker 8: not had to pay a pay raise. You know, we've
- 23:22Speaker 8: given pay raises for the last six years and they've
- 23:27Speaker 8: not had one. They haven't had a cost of living increase.
- 23:29Speaker 8: So I think that, you know, they're going to be
- 23:31Speaker 8: hurt the worst with it. But I think they need
- 23:32Speaker 8: to hear voices, and they need to make sure you
- 23:34Speaker 8: go to those hearings and let the board know and
- 23:37Speaker 8: and let's be hopeful that they'll they'll make some changes
- 23:40Speaker 8: and their proposed increases won't actually come to fruition and
- 23:43Speaker 8: let's talk.
- 23:43Speaker 6: About those public hearings. When and where do we have
- 23:46Speaker 6: times and dates yet?
- 23:48Speaker 8: You know, I've I've heard some things. I don't have
- 23:51Speaker 8: those written down, Dave.
- 23:52Speaker 6: Car That's okay, that's right. I should have had them
- 23:53Speaker 6: written down, and they may not have been set yet.
- 23:56Speaker 6: They may not have been set yet, but we'll definitely
- 23:57Speaker 6: inform the people. And the problem that happens with these
- 24:00Speaker 6: public hearing sometimes, Senator, is you publicize them. We do,
- 24:04Speaker 6: the other media outlets do, and then sometimes very few
- 24:08Speaker 6: people show up.
- 24:10Speaker 8: You know, or or just people from specific specific organizations
- 24:16Speaker 8: show up. And you know, not that that's a bad thing,
- 24:18Speaker 8: because you want to hear from representatives from organizations, but
- 24:21Speaker 8: I think policy holders from all walks of life need
- 24:23Speaker 8: to show up just to let them know this is
- 24:25Speaker 8: their experience, this is how it's going to affect them.
- 24:27Speaker 8: You know. The people to sit on the pei of
- 24:29Speaker 8: policy board or the board the finance board, they are there.
- 24:33Speaker 8: They're West Virginian's you know, they care about the people too.
- 24:36Speaker 8: I have no doubt that they do. And so if
- 24:37Speaker 8: they hear your story, there's a possibility that there could
- 24:41Speaker 8: be another plan to come up with, you know, and
- 24:43Speaker 8: so I just think that we need to, of course
- 24:46Speaker 8: keep it in the forefront and see still keep our
- 24:48Speaker 8: eye on it. But I think we need to understand
- 24:50Speaker 8: that these proposed increases that were proposed is really important
- 24:53Speaker 8: because they could change and I'm hopeful that they do.
- 24:56Speaker 6: And of course, well as I said, we'll be covering
- 24:58Speaker 6: those meetings when they happen.
- 24:59Speaker 12: We'll get all the.
- 25:00Speaker 6: Information out there before we let you go. I want
- 25:02Speaker 6: to talk about election day. Did do you have an
- 25:04Speaker 6: opponent this time around?
- 25:06Speaker 8: I do, Yeah, I have an opponent. Actually it leads
- 25:08Speaker 8: about two miles from me, so it's a neighbor and
- 25:12Speaker 8: uh so that but uh yeah, I do. I've been
- 25:14Speaker 8: but you know, you always either you run like you're
- 25:16Speaker 8: unopposed or you run like your ten points behind. So
- 25:19Speaker 8: I don't think anybody has ever seen the kind of
- 25:22Speaker 8: competitor I am when it comes to campaign season. So
- 25:25Speaker 8: it brings out the competitor in me. And I've been
- 25:27Speaker 8: working hard, just just as I always do. So I'm
- 25:30Speaker 8: interested to see how things go.
- 25:32Speaker 4: How did that work with yard signed? Since your neighbor
- 25:35Speaker 4: two blocks away.
- 25:36Speaker 8: From now not necessarily like right beside.
- 25:39Speaker 6: Data, but you got to understand where Senator Grady Lives
- 25:43Speaker 6: wouldie it's it's kind of it's it's kind of out
- 25:46Speaker 6: there a little bit, all right.
- 25:47Speaker 8: Yeah, it's just a little bit my little town. You
- 25:49Speaker 8: blink your eyes and you go right through it. But
- 25:51Speaker 8: it's very rural, and so I don't know. I've only
- 25:54Speaker 8: seen about I've only seen about five of my opponent's
- 25:56Speaker 8: sign in the whole district signs of my in the
- 25:58Speaker 8: whole district. So, you know, if any consolation, then I
- 26:02Speaker 8: think I'm doing pretty well.
- 26:03Speaker 12: Well.
- 26:03Speaker 6: Let me throw this out here because I had a
- 26:05Speaker 6: text here. It says, Dave, someone's been stealing my Amy
- 26:07Speaker 6: Grady signs from my yard. I mean, this is an
- 26:10Speaker 6: legitimate text. This is no this is a legitimate and
- 26:12Speaker 6: we're not in any We're not saying it was your
- 26:14Speaker 6: opponent anything to do with it, because usually that's not
- 26:17Speaker 6: the case. It's usually not the political people, it's usually
- 26:19Speaker 6: other people. But the text said, Dave, someone's been stealing
- 26:23Speaker 6: my Amy Grady signs from my yard. I'm on sign
- 26:26Speaker 6: number three now, but I'll be waiting for them this time.
- 26:29Speaker 6: Have we got have we have? We got problems in
- 26:32Speaker 6: the in the metropolis of Leon.
- 26:35Speaker 8: You know, I don't think so. I'm not sure it's
- 26:39Speaker 8: a picture of me on my Let's hope somebody just
- 26:41Speaker 8: just wants to maybe keep it. I don't know if
- 26:43Speaker 8: I do. You let them know, you text them back
- 26:45Speaker 8: and let them know. I'll get them another one.
- 26:46Speaker 6: All right, Well, I'm sure they're listening.
- 26:48Speaker 8: We'll make sure we yes.
- 26:49Speaker 6: Great, all right, sender Grady. As always, I appreciate you
- 26:51Speaker 6: being here. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot.
- 26:54Speaker 8: Hey, Thanks Dave, you have a good day I had.
- 26:55Speaker 6: Senator Amy Nicole Grady. You think about Amy Grady there?
- 27:00Speaker 4: Like her energy?
- 27:01Speaker 6: Yeah, she got energy. I'll say that for it. She
- 27:04Speaker 6: definitely does. Tex says Senator Grady has been a tremendous
- 27:07Speaker 6: representative for citizens of our district. She knows issues and
- 27:10Speaker 6: tries to do the right thing. Texas says. Tell Senator
- 27:13Speaker 6: Grady to quit asking for a government handout. Why can't
- 27:15Speaker 6: you just pull herself up by the bootstraps, says a text.
- 27:19Speaker 6: Texas says. The only way to solve all this is
- 27:21Speaker 6: for the legislature to spend more money, pay raises or
- 27:24Speaker 6: one time contributions. I guess the Republican legislature won't do that,
- 27:28Speaker 6: says a textter. We're gonna talk to Putnam County Clerk
- 27:30Speaker 6: Brian Wood coming up here and just a bit what
- 27:32Speaker 6: he would's kind of hanging out with me today? What
- 27:33Speaker 6: do you bet a you know this town is? This
- 27:35Speaker 6: is the concert town I mean. And there's another one,
- 27:37Speaker 6: a big one, Trans Siberian Orchestra coming to the Connloseem

- 27:44Speaker 6: have got your chance to win free front row tickets.
- 27:46Speaker 6: Be listening all next week for the keyword of the day. Now,
- 27:50Speaker 6: once you hear that keyword, you go over to w

- 32:02Speaker 6: He's on the Island Show today. Early voting continues across
- 32:07Speaker 6: West Virginia and if you want to vote early in
- 32:09Speaker 6: Putnam County, two spots to do it, as I mentioned
- 32:11Speaker 6: early Putnham County Courthouse and also the conference center at
- 32:13Speaker 6: Valley Park. The county clerk is Brian Wood. He joins
- 32:15Speaker 6: us now via the big Ley Pigley Wiggily hotline. Brian,
- 32:18Speaker 6: good morning, welcome to the show.
- 32:20Speaker 16: Good morning, sir.
- 32:21Speaker 6: How are you You know you're in the midst of
- 32:22Speaker 6: greatness here because you've got the Hall of Famer Woody
- 32:25Speaker 6: Woods from the Beat hanging out with me today. You
- 32:27Speaker 6: realize that, Brian.
- 32:28Speaker 16: Right, absolutely absolutely, How are you, sir?
- 32:31Speaker 4: I'm good. How you doing, Brian?
- 32:33Speaker 16: Wonderful, wonderful, Thank you for what you do.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Thank you, sir.
- 32:36Speaker 6: Let's talk about these numbers for Putnam County. How was
- 32:38Speaker 6: day one?
- 32:40Speaker 16: Day one was busy. It was busy at the courthouse.
- 32:42Speaker 16: We had six hundred and fifty eight. In that Valley
- 32:45Speaker 16: Park we had six hundred and ninety two for a
- 32:46Speaker 16: total thirteen fifty and so to my knowledge, that's the
- 32:51Speaker 16: record for a single day. I believe back in sixteen,
- 32:57Speaker 16: we only had the courthouse. In the last Saturday, I
- 33:00Speaker 16: think we had around twelve hundred, but that was the
- 33:04Speaker 16: last Saturday of early voting and we only had one
- 33:08Speaker 16: one location then. So I'm anxious to see what next
- 33:12Speaker 16: Saturday is going to be like.
- 33:14Speaker 6: And I would imagine that Saturdays are the bigger days
- 33:16Speaker 6: that right, clerk.
- 33:18Speaker 16: Tip Yeah, in some ways, yes, some ways, depending on
- 33:22Speaker 16: what the football falls, how the football.
- 33:23Speaker 6: Falls, Yeah, that's true.
- 33:26Speaker 16: And typically what will happen is they'll go they'll go
- 33:29Speaker 16: to lunch or breakfast like breakfast brunch, come vote, and
- 33:33Speaker 16: then get back to the house to watch the ball
- 33:36Speaker 16: games ahead of time. So sometimes during those ball games
- 33:39Speaker 16: it slacks a little bit, but this being a presidential election,
- 33:43Speaker 16: I feel will probably be busy all the way through.
- 33:46Speaker 6: How popular overall is is early voting in Putnam County
- 33:51Speaker 6: Because I'll say this, you know, Hoppy to an informal
- 33:53Speaker 6: poll on x the artist formerly known as Twitter a
- 33:56Speaker 6: couple of days ago, and the majority of people on
- 33:59Speaker 6: there said they were going to early vote. Now, again,
- 34:01Speaker 6: that's not scientific, bindy stretch of the imagination. And I
- 34:03Speaker 6: had Mac Warner's Secretary of State on the show yesterday,
- 34:06Speaker 6: and he says that pretty much West Virginia still prefer
- 34:09Speaker 6: in person voting on the day of the election. What's
- 34:12Speaker 6: the pulsar in Putnam County.
- 34:14Speaker 16: I believe a lot of people like the convenience of it.
- 34:16Speaker 16: You know, we have extended iris on Thursday till seven.
- 34:19Speaker 16: You got the two Saturdays nine to five, and they
- 34:22Speaker 16: love the convenience of being able to come when they
- 34:24Speaker 16: want to rather than be noil down to one day
- 34:28Speaker 16: being the clerk. I know that it's just as safe
- 34:31Speaker 16: and secure as election day. So you know, put that
- 34:36Speaker 16: ballot in that ballot box as soon as you get
- 34:38Speaker 16: a chance, as soon as you've educated yourself on who
- 34:41Speaker 16: you want to vote for and made up your mind.
- 34:43Speaker 16: The sooner the better, and don't be shy about it.
- 34:47Speaker 16: You know, we have these two locations. I've got poll
- 34:52Speaker 16: workers that do an absolutely wonderful job. They know the system,
- 34:55Speaker 16: their fine tuned machine. We've got two check in stations.
- 35:00Speaker 16: Don't you know. If he comes into the hallway you
- 35:02Speaker 16: see that there's a line, don't get discouraged because that
- 35:05Speaker 16: line moves fast. The problem is it's just there keeps
- 35:08Speaker 16: coming more people at the end of the line. So
- 35:11Speaker 16: sometimes we never get rid of the line, but that
- 35:13Speaker 16: doesn't mean you're gonna be standing in the line for
- 35:15Speaker 16: four hours on the end.
- 35:17Speaker 6: Yeah, again, we're talking to Putnam County Clerk Brian would
- 35:19Speaker 6: what you are? You an in person voter? And election day?
- 35:22Speaker 6: Do you prefer early? What is what he woulds do
- 35:23Speaker 6: here in Kanawah County. I'm an in person voter. I
- 35:25Speaker 6: take my kids with me, so on day one? Or
- 35:28Speaker 6: do you do it really voting?
- 35:29Speaker 8: No?
- 35:30Speaker 4: Election day?
- 35:31Speaker 3: Election day?
- 35:31Speaker 5: I mean, okay, yeah, because then school well Saturday, but
- 35:35Speaker 5: I'm busy Saturday. But I'd like to go like election
- 35:37Speaker 5: day and let them see the process.
- 35:39Speaker 6: Uh, Clerk, there are a couple of extra things in
- 35:41Speaker 6: the ballot, especially especially in Putnham County. Amendment one that's
- 35:45Speaker 6: a state wide thing. Have you to do with the
- 35:47Speaker 6: assistant assistant a physician assistant suicide? Again, that's the state
- 35:51Speaker 6: wee thing. But Putnham County voters also have an education
- 35:55Speaker 6: levy on the ballot, and yesterday I had Putnam County
- 35:57Speaker 6: School Superintendent John Hudson on to talk about it. And
- 36:00Speaker 6: I bring this up only to remind people that there
- 36:02Speaker 6: will be additional things for them to look for on
- 36:04Speaker 6: the ballot other than just other than just.
- 36:06Speaker 16: Candidates, correct correct man, And I asked that they educate
- 36:10Speaker 16: themselves on that because you know, we instruct our poll
- 36:13Speaker 16: workers and myself. We don't want to get deep in
- 36:15Speaker 16: the woods about explaining things and possibly lead a person
- 36:19Speaker 16: in the voting for or against any type of item
- 36:23Speaker 16: on the ballot. So you know, we're neutral. We're like
- 36:27Speaker 16: the referee where the umpire or the judge. You know,
- 36:31Speaker 16: we're neutral in the matter, and we're there to help
- 36:33Speaker 16: cist with the process of processing your vote, but not
- 36:37Speaker 16: the the actual decision making or explaining aspect of it.
- 36:43Speaker 16: So please educate yourself ahead of time before you come
- 36:45Speaker 16: to the polls.
- 36:46Speaker 6: All right, Budnam County Clark, Brian, would I do appreciate
- 36:49Speaker 6: you taking time out of your schedule again a Pudam
- 36:51Speaker 6: County things. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, go ahead, go ahead.
- 36:54Speaker 16: I just know you're bit remember, oh yeah, I definitely, definitely.
- 36:58Speaker 16: But October thirty is the last day for absentee balloting
- 37:02Speaker 16: and obviously November fifth is selection day and voting Irish
- 37:06Speaker 16: or six thirty to seven thirty across the state. Please,
- 37:11Speaker 16: you know, pat your poll workers on the back to
- 37:13Speaker 16: thank you for what they did, because it wasn't for them.
- 37:14Speaker 16: We couldn't do it without at them, you know. And
- 37:17Speaker 16: then and then also please please mind your listeners that
- 37:22Speaker 16: not where they're parafing. You know, we live in a
- 37:24Speaker 16: culture where we're going to w games, Marshall games, things
- 37:30Speaker 16: like that, and we wear our jerseys and we're rooting
- 37:33Speaker 16: for our team. And I want people to be proud
- 37:35Speaker 16: of who they're voting for and root for their team.
- 37:38Speaker 16: But just don't do it at the polling place because
- 37:40Speaker 16: that puts the poll workers in a bad spot where
- 37:43Speaker 16: they have to you know, by law, we've got to
- 37:45Speaker 16: tell them to take that shirt, you know, turn it
- 37:47Speaker 16: inside out, or take the hat, put them back in
- 37:49Speaker 16: your car, and different things like that. And we don't
- 37:52Speaker 16: want them be to be embarrassed. And we don't want
- 37:54Speaker 16: to poll workers in that situation. So if that, if
- 37:57Speaker 16: the voters could just help us out a little bit
- 37:58Speaker 16: in that wonderful all right.
- 38:01Speaker 6: And again, in Putnam County, you can early vote at
- 38:03Speaker 6: the courthouse in Winfield or at Valley Park. And so, Brian,
- 38:06Speaker 6: you're doing a great job over there, and I appreciate
- 38:08Speaker 6: you being here. We'll talk againsue Man. Thanks a lot,
- 38:11Speaker 6: Thank you, sir, great day. Putnam County Clerk Brian wood Ys.
- 38:14Speaker 6: One of the things would he that people need to
- 38:16Speaker 6: remind people of is when you go to the polls,
- 38:19Speaker 6: you cannot wear into the polling place a vote for
- 38:22Speaker 6: or a vote or against or whatever. That's that's when
- 38:24Speaker 6: I was working for the Secretary of State's office, that
- 38:26Speaker 6: probably was the biggest issue we had with somebody and
- 38:29Speaker 6: just not thinking about it. Coming in and you know,
- 38:31Speaker 6: vote for John for for Board of Education or whatever.
- 38:34Speaker 6: That's considered electioneering, and the poll worker will tell you, you know,
- 38:37Speaker 6: can you cover that up? Can you put a jacket
- 38:39Speaker 6: on something like that?
- 38:40Speaker 4: Well, let me ask you this. Can I ask you this?
- 38:42Speaker 5: My son he registered to vote here in West Virginia,
- 38:45Speaker 5: but he goes to the University of Cincinnati.
- 38:48Speaker 4: How does he vote? He actually called me.
- 38:50Speaker 6: If he's registered here, he would have he's in kanawh County. Yes, okay,
- 38:54Speaker 6: Well he would have had to either come back to
- 38:56Speaker 6: Knaw County and vote on election day or absentee. Okay,
- 39:00Speaker 6: because most college students don't change their address. I mean,
- 39:05Speaker 6: because it's because if you know what it's like when
- 39:07Speaker 6: you're in college, you're gonna change your address every every semester,
- 39:10Speaker 6: so most don't. So if he's registered here in Kanawha
- 39:13Speaker 6: County and he's a student, he probably should just come
- 39:16Speaker 6: back here and vote, because you know, an you gotta
- 39:18Speaker 6: asked for or call a county clerks off and ask
- 39:20Speaker 6: for an absentee ballot.
- 39:21Speaker 4: That's how what's the process.
- 39:23Speaker 6: You just call it, they'll take care of it. And
- 39:25Speaker 6: I do want to mention early voting in Canawac County,
- 39:28Speaker 6: Cross Lane Sheriff's Department, Belltown Hall, City of Saint Albans
- 39:32Speaker 6: City Hall, Cistonville Library, the Elk View Community Center, Marmette
- 39:36Speaker 6: Town Hall, the City of Nitro's Police Department, the voter
- 39:38Speaker 6: Registration office at Courrier Street, and also the Girl Scouts
- 39:42Speaker 6: of Black Diamond Council at three twenty one Virginia Street
- 39:44Speaker 6: West so and and those are open to anybody in
- 39:47Speaker 6: KENAWHK County, So you don't have to live like if
- 39:49Speaker 6: you live in South Charleston, if you're going to early vote,
- 39:51Speaker 6: you can vote at one of those locations. I now
- 39:53Speaker 6: on election day though, you have to vote in whatever
- 39:56Speaker 6: your your your precinct is. I did not know they
- 39:58Speaker 6: try to make it convenient. I got a text from
- 40:00Speaker 6: a listener yesterday that said they voted at the Girl
- 40:02Speaker 6: Scout Center on the West End and as of this time,
- 40:05Speaker 6: there was about six people.
- 40:07Speaker 10: Uh.
- 40:08Speaker 4: You can get those young kids in school.
- 40:11Speaker 6: They'll be all right, They'll they'll be all right.
- 40:13Speaker 10: Uh.
- 40:13Speaker 6: I did have a text to the show here if
- 40:15Speaker 6: I can pull it up here, texts says, I just voted.
- 40:18Speaker 6: The language on the amendment is very misleading. It says
- 40:21Speaker 6: to protect West Virginians for medically assistant suicide. The description
- 40:25Speaker 6: basically tells people how to vote, says the text or
- 40:28Speaker 6: going back to Amy Grady, Texas Center, Grady's opponent has okay,
- 40:31Speaker 6: I cannot read that art no no, no, no, no no, no.
- 40:36Speaker 6: I'll it's read off. We're not going to read that
- 40:37Speaker 6: one on it. Okay, okay, Texas, Brian Wood is the best.
- 40:40Speaker 6: He runs our county elections better than anyone in the county. Uh,
- 40:44Speaker 6: in any county in the entire state. Says I saw
- 40:48Speaker 6: totally spacious and false false claims about Brian Wood stealing
- 40:52Speaker 6: the flipping votes. Should I amplify and spread this everywhere?
- 40:56Speaker 6: I mean, the GOP freaks have no problem lying about
- 40:59Speaker 6: rigged election says, to be honest, that was a that
- 41:01Speaker 6: was sarcastic. They were just trying to say they're not
- 41:04Speaker 6: saying Brian.
- 41:04Speaker 4: Would did that.
- 41:05Speaker 6: That was that was That was tongue in cheek. All right,
- 41:07Speaker 6: Texas Day, When will our government do something to control
- 41:10Speaker 6: speeding and aggressive driving? Well, I've got even in the
- 41:14Speaker 6: studio right now. If you want to talk to him,
- 41:16Speaker 6: what he would It should be easier to add a
- 41:19Speaker 6: dozen police units than to clean up a major wreck
- 41:21Speaker 6: every day. Speaking of wrecks, I want to bring this up.
- 41:23Speaker 6: If you're could be traveling I sixty four today, uh,
- 41:27Speaker 6: specifically between Nitro and Tay's Valley, keep this in mind.
- 41:30Speaker 6: They're doing these rolling roadblocks, rolling roadblocks block. What they
- 41:35Speaker 6: do is they're they're striping the roads and so they'll
- 41:38Speaker 6: stop this lane for a while, then they'll stop this day.
- 41:40Speaker 6: They were scheduled to do it yesterday. And by the way,
- 41:42Speaker 6: I'm gonna give a big props to whoever does the
- 41:44Speaker 6: Puttnham County Sheriff's Departments Facebook page, because they're just having
- 41:48Speaker 6: way too much fun with this. It's very If you
- 41:50Speaker 6: want some entertaining comedee reading, go on there and read
- 41:53Speaker 6: the Facebook page of Puttnam County Sheriff's Department. So they
- 41:56Speaker 6: were supposed to do it yesterday, there was a problem
- 41:58Speaker 6: with the paint truck, so they couldn't do it yesterday.
- 42:00Speaker 6: So today, starting at ten o'clock until five, you have
- 42:03Speaker 6: been warmed. If you are going to be traveling anywhere
- 42:06Speaker 6: on I sixty four, let's just go and say between
- 42:08Speaker 6: Huntington or well, let's say, well, let's say between Charleston
- 42:11Speaker 6: and Hurricane you are going to be delayed a little
- 42:14Speaker 6: bit fifteen twenty thirty minutes at a time. It's but
- 42:17Speaker 6: this project, Woody is almost done.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Sweet.
- 42:20Speaker 6: I mean they started this thing like in nineteen twenty
- 42:24Speaker 6: or something, I don't know, and they're just they're just
- 42:27Speaker 6: now getting to the point where they are starting to
- 42:29Speaker 6: wrap this project up.
- 42:30Speaker 4: So which one gonna finish first? That or Kanas City?
- 42:33Speaker 6: I think this one will make?
- 42:35Speaker 17: This?
- 42:35Speaker 6: Will this will Woody? What's the fifth? Will be running
- 42:38Speaker 6: the beat by the time that's done. Do you want
- 42:40Speaker 6: to mention this? I will not be at trigger Beat tonight.
- 42:43Speaker 6: I will instead be over in Putnam County and our
- 42:44Speaker 6: sister station ninety six one KWS over in Eleanor at
- 42:48Speaker 6: the Putnam Career and Technical Center. It's the Hometown Advantage
- 42:51Speaker 6: Career Fair and this is a night event six' eight tonight.
- 42:53Speaker 6: New Core is going to be there, Toyota, c AMC,
- 42:56Speaker 6: Valley Health, Westervirginia State Police, the Green Power Motor Company,
- 42:59Speaker 6: Mark garn Cassino. Well over thirty employers are going to
- 43:02Speaker 6: be there, and they all have one thing in common.
- 43:04Speaker 6: What do they all need workers? They all need workers.

- 48:38Speaker 6: to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. I'm going to
- 48:41Speaker 6: close with this. Woody Woods is with me. It was
- 48:43Speaker 6: a sad story that really gripped all of Charleston, going
- 48:45Speaker 6: back to January of last year, to Charleston teenagers robed
- 48:49Speaker 6: the tobacco and pipe shop over on Seventh and killed
- 48:51Speaker 6: the nineteen year old clerk on duty. He was a kid.
- 48:55Speaker 6: The gentleman that was killed, his whole life I had
- 48:57Speaker 6: on him. His name was Kaden Martin. He was murdered
- 49:00Speaker 6: by Jon Williams Hampton, fourteen year old, and another fourteen
- 49:03Speaker 6: year old named Brock Williams. Yesterday in front of Canawh
- 49:06Speaker 6: County Circuit Judge Mary Claire Akers, Williams Hampton pleaded guilty
- 49:10Speaker 6: to a first degree felony murder charge and was sentenced
- 49:12Speaker 6: to life in prison. Now he is eligible because he
- 49:15Speaker 6: was charged as an adult, but he was an adult
- 49:17Speaker 6: when he participated in this. He's eligible for parole after
- 49:22Speaker 6: fifteen years because of his age. That's just West Virgina law.
- 49:26Speaker 6: There's nothing judge could do about that. That's West Virginia law,
- 49:30Speaker 6: you know. And I wasn't in the courtroom, but I
- 49:32Speaker 6: saw the coverage of it yesterday and I said this
- 49:34Speaker 6: when it happened. Three lives ended that day, Yes, sir,
- 49:37Speaker 6: the clerk and the two young men fourteen years old,
- 49:42Speaker 6: and one is going away to prison. I'm sure the
- 49:45Speaker 6: other one more than likely will too when the sentence happening.
- 49:48Speaker 6: They're charged in or they're accused of some other crimes
- 49:50Speaker 6: as well. What a sad story.
- 49:52Speaker 4: Everything I heard.
- 49:53Speaker 5: I don't know the kids, but Cayden, the stuff I
- 49:57Speaker 5: heard about him, Man, they just say he was a
- 49:59Speaker 5: great young man.
- 50:00Speaker 4: And I what's crazy about this whole story?
- 50:03Speaker 16: Dave.
- 50:03Speaker 4: It ain't like he tried to fight him. He gave him.
- 50:06Speaker 4: He did what he wanted.
- 50:07Speaker 6: He did what the store owners tell you to do.
- 50:09Speaker 5: Yeah, give up this vapes and ice cream, give it up.
- 50:12Speaker 5: And he gave it up and he still lost his life.
- 50:14Speaker 5: To this is senseless. This hurt Where you listen to
- 50:17Speaker 5: that mom and mom that one it hurts, man. They
- 50:22Speaker 5: kicks you in the stomach. And she was aggressive, she she.
- 50:26Speaker 6: Said, I'm going to be at every parole hearing and
- 50:28Speaker 6: I want you to suffer in there as much as
- 50:29Speaker 6: we're suffering because you took her nineteen year old son
- 50:32Speaker 6: from us.
- 50:32Speaker 4: And the granny. I heard the granny say, like Cayden,
- 50:35Speaker 4: a young man walk in. He was short two dollars
- 50:38Speaker 4: and he just went in his pocket and gave it
- 50:40Speaker 4: to him. That's the type of guy that I heard
- 50:42Speaker 4: that he wasn't. I don't.
- 50:43Speaker 5: I didn't know him, but I didn't hear any bad
- 50:46Speaker 5: things about this young man.
- 50:47Speaker 6: I mean, give me, I know this is an impossible catask,
- 50:50Speaker 6: but in the closing moment, so give me about thirty seconds.
- 50:53Speaker 6: What do we need to do to convince kids, no
- 50:56Speaker 6: matter where they are, no matter where they're from, that
- 50:58Speaker 6: life is important.
- 51:00Speaker 5: Well, I mean it's gonna sound cleiche dave. It starts
- 51:03Speaker 5: at home. I don't know the killer's parents, but we
- 51:05Speaker 5: got we gotta hug on our kids.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Man.
- 51:07Speaker 5: We gotta tell our kids we love them. We've got
- 51:09Speaker 5: to tell our kids that you can be better than
- 51:12Speaker 5: whatever you think in your mind, whatever you think you
- 51:14Speaker 5: want to be, you can be ten times better than that.
- 51:17Speaker 5: It got to just like in the morning, Dave. I
- 51:20Speaker 5: encourage my kids every day to go do something nice.
- 51:23Speaker 5: When they get in the car and I pick them
- 51:24Speaker 5: up for school, I don't ask them high to school.
- 51:27Speaker 5: I ask them, did you do something nice for somebody today?
- 51:29Speaker 5: And that opens the conversation of because you just ask

- 51:33Speaker 3: It's like Borne, yeah, but wood.
