- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from my truck.
- 0:30So you might be wondering why the heck is she in her truck?
- 0:33Well, I have the privilege this morning of dropping my son off
- 0:37at a new program that he's involved with that is an
- 0:41apprenticeship to become a plumber.
- 0:44He decided that he wanted to become a plumber and he's 16
- 0:49years old, made this decision and is extremely excited about
- 0:54it. So the path to getting him there
- 0:57was a little bit different than one might think.
- 0:59And how are we doing this at 16 years old?
- 1:02And this is all about intentional living.
- 1:04So I want to explain to you a little bit about what happened
- 1:07because he's, he's part of an, we homeschool him and he's part
- 1:10of an online program that he can, you know, he's getting an
- 1:15official diploma, which is wonderful.
- 1:18And so this program had an A class in it that had him watch
- 1:23career exploration. Now, since he was little, he has
- 1:26always been mechanically inclined.
- 1:28This child, he can put IKEA furniture together by looking at
- 1:32it. He can understand the
- 1:34instructions, my friends, which is, you know, way beyond my
- 1:37skill set. I look at them and I like, ah,
- 1:39no way, but he gets it. So what's what was funny was he
- 1:44took this class because the online school actually asked
- 1:47him, you know, participate in it.
- 1:49And he saw an HVAC, you know, running, fixing heating and
- 1:54cooling. And he thought that that was
- 1:55very cool and he thought that that would be fun to do.
- 1:58So locally, we have a technical school that offers programs to
- 2:04juniors and seniors in high school to start their training
- 2:06ahead of time. And then by the time they're out
- 2:09of high school, they will actually have a job with a
- 2:11company, which was incredible. So we attended an event that
- 2:15they had to see what it was all about.
- 2:18And what what he learned was that, you know, there's a
- 2:21limitation to that. Once you do a track, you you do
- 2:24a track. So he started, you know, the
- 2:27class had talked about the class he took from the online school,
- 2:30talked about doing plumbing and everywhere he went inside that,
- 2:35that presentation day and he talked to companies about it.
- 2:37They said, oh, well, we don't have a plumbing program because
- 2:41you have to work directly with a plumber.
- 2:42You have to be trained there. There there is online training,
- 2:45but you really have to be an apprentice with someone
- 2:47specific. And there was no, no companies
- 2:51participating in the technical schools program.
- 2:54So he kind of got defeated and was like, I guess I'm just going
- 2:59to have to do HVAC. And I said, do you really want
- 3:01to do plumbing? And he said, yes.
- 3:02And I said, OK, let's make it happen.
- 3:05So through the process of getting everything ready for the
- 3:08technical school application, we had to put together a resume.
- 3:11He had to get recommendations from the job he currently has,
- 3:15where he's worked since he was 14 years old at a mulch market.
- 3:19And they have taught him amazing things, sales, they've taught
- 3:24him, you know, the discipline of being able to run the yard.
- 3:29He's learned to drive heavy equipment because it's a private
- 3:32property. So he can.
- 3:34And I'm talking big JC BS. I mean, they've really, it's
- 3:37really helped him so much doing this job.
- 3:40So we put together everything and I said to him, we're going
- 3:43to reach out to companies directly and see if someone will
- 3:47take you on as an apprentice. And he said outside the
- 3:50technical program. And I said, yeah.
- 3:51He said, can we do that? And I said, you know, you have
- 3:54to learn and you really have to be intentional right now.
- 3:57Do you want to be a plumber? Yes.
- 3:58OK, then we're going to find you the place that's going to help
- 4:01you. So of course, me being me, I
- 4:04started, you know, my process of looking and saying, OK, what
- 4:08looks like a good company. And I'm thinking about this
- 4:12non-stop. And the next morning I wake up
- 4:15and I click the television on to watch the weather and there's a
- 4:19commercial from a HVAC company that does HVAC and plumbing and
- 4:24heating and all kinds of other things.
- 4:27And the commercial with the gentleman that owned the company
- 4:30just was so genuine. And so the way he was talking
- 4:35about how he started the company and he was, it was built on
- 4:38simple principles of just, you know, saying please and thank
- 4:42you and giving handshakes and doing a good job and showing up
- 4:45on time and how they work to have five star reviews, that's
- 4:49what they focus on. And I thought, well, I might as
- 4:52well reach out to them first because I was intentionally
- 4:56thinking of this and all of a sudden it showed up.
- 4:59Right on the. Right on the screen right in
- 5:00front of me. So I was like OK this is a
- 5:02message. So I called and I got spoke to
- 5:04the dispatcher and she said let me get you in touch with the
- 5:07right person. And I left a message for the
- 5:10person. And lo and behold within 20
- 5:13minutes I get a call back and this girl and I start having a
- 5:16conversation. I tell her everything and she
- 5:19says well let me get in touch with the person who's runs
- 5:23everybody and see if they'd be willing to do it.
- 5:25We have done one before, but he was a son of someone who was
- 5:29already a plumber. But let me just check and see.
- 5:31And she said in the meantime, do you have anything you can send
- 5:33over to us about him? So I said yes and I told her
- 5:37about the Trident stuff that I had prepared and she said great,
- 5:40send it on over. So I sent it over.
- 5:43No joke. 30 minutes later, I get a call back that they would like
- 5:47to meet him. And I took him down about a
- 5:50month and a half ago. He sat down with everybody and
- 5:53by the end of the interview in this boardroom with these
- 5:56people, they hired him and they are paying him to train him.
- 6:01And he is absolutely elated. He's beyond elated.
- 6:05So excited. Yesterday happened, you know, to
- 6:09be the first time it kind of sunk in that this was all
- 6:13happening and he is on cloud 9, on cloud 9.
- 6:19So about intentional living, about intended energy going in a
- 6:24direction, my friends, not only does it work, but when you do
- 6:27this and you use it with your skills along to help other
- 6:31people, just like I did, just like teaching him this, he is so
- 6:34focused. He's like, I am going to be a
- 6:37master plumber by the time I'm 20.
- 6:40I'm focused on that. I am going to study, I'm going
- 6:43to take the test, I'm going to work with them.
- 6:45And he could not be more excited.
- 6:48So today I want you to think about the fact that all of this
- 6:52happened because I wasn't, you know, intimidated to reach out.
- 6:55I wasn't intimidated to ask for what we wanted.
- 6:59I had intention. He had intention.
- 7:02We were focused on it, even though he was wonky and a little
- 7:05like uncertain if you could. I was like, Nope, we focus on
- 7:08it. We will make it happen.
- 7:09And we did. So remember that.
- 7:11Take that forward and work that for yourself.
- 7:14All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 7:17will see you tomorrow. Bye.
